A Note About The Adverts
In order to allow us to make these stories we offer a premium subscription and run adverts. The adverts are not chosen by us, but played automatically depending on the platform you listen through (Apple Podcasts, Spotify, etc) and the country you live in. The adverts may even be different if you listen to the story twice.

We have had a handful of instances where an advert has played that is not suitable for a family audience, despite the podcast clearly being labelled for children. If you’re concerned about an advert you hear, please contact the platform you are listening to directly. Spotify, in particular, has proven problematic in the past, for both inappropriate adverts and the volume at which the adverts play. If you find this happening, please let Spotify know via their Facebook customer care page.

As creators, we want your child’s experience to be a pleasurable one. Running adverts is necessary to allow us to operate, but please do consider the premium subscription service as an alternative – it’s advert free.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, and welcome to a special taster of our new
premium only story. We hope you like it. Yo. Hello,

(00:23):
I'm Josephine and this is the Animal Tales podcast, home
to over four hundred stories written just for you. Our
Friday story is especially for our Premium subscribers only. Arlow
is a Premium member from the Philippines and he would
like a story with a toy elephant. Don't forget to
listen to the animal facts after the story to learn

(00:45):
more about these creatures. For now, it's time to sit
back and get comfy, because it's time to begin The
Little Toy Elephant. Arlow was a huge fan of elephants.
He had posters, books, toys, but his favorite, the one
he took everywhere, was a cuddly toy called Black. Arlo

(01:10):
had named Black because of the little tuft of black
hair on the end of his tail. He had been
one of Arlow's very first toys. But as the years
passed and Arlow got older, things changed. The elephant posters
came down and were replaced by pictures from his favorite
TV shows. His nature books were swapped for comics, and

(01:34):
his cuddly toys were exchanged for action figures, cars, and lego.
Then one day the only elephant left in the whole
bedroom was Black. Black would sit at the end of
Arlow's bed, watching him read and draw and play, remembering
the days when they'd have done all of those things together.

(01:57):
Although Arlo rarely played with Black these days, Black always
found comfort knowing that Arlo had kept him all this time.
When Arlow's family decided to go to the park for
a picnic, packing food and a blanket, Arlow went to
packs and toys to take. Into his backpack went a ball,

(02:19):
three of his action figures, and a race car, and then,
after a moment of hesitation, he grabbed Black two, the
little toy. Elephant was ecstatic. It had been ages since
Arlo had taken him anywhere. Maybe this would be the
first step to them spending more time together again. In

(02:41):
the car, Black managed to wiggle his way to the
top of the bag in order to look out of
the window. He loved car rides, watching the trees, houses
and people go by. Black remembered the park when they arrived.
They'd come often when Arlo was younger. They made for
the shade of the trees, where it was nice and quiet,

(03:04):
where his parents began setting up the picnic while Arlow
emptied out his toys. It was a lovely afternoon. They
ate and played, and for the first time in a
long time, Black felt like he was part of the
family again. The Little Toy Elephant was particularly pleased to
be included in a game with the ball, Arlo was

(03:28):
seeing how far he could kick it, and it was
Black's job to be the marker. Arlo would place the
little Elephant wherever the ball ended up, allowing Arlo to
try to kick even further. The next time, Arlo was
doing well, and Black found himself being placed further and
further away. Arlo, can you help me put everything in

(03:52):
the car, his mum called out, o k He called back,
sprinting to help. His mum gathered up his toys into
the backpack, then noticed the ball out on the grass
and went to fetch that too, but she didn't see
the Little Toy Elephant, and the elephant, distracted by a butterfly,

(04:14):
didn't see what the family was up to until the
car pulled away. Wait wait, wait for me, Black called,
hurrying after them, but it was too late. The car
turned a corner and disappeared from sight. Black stopped panting,

(04:35):
unable to believe what had just happened. Had Arlo forgotten him?
He sat down on the grass, his little toy heart racing.
He was all alone, with no way of knowing how
to get home. What was he going to do? Should
he stay right where he was in case Arlow came

(04:56):
back for him. He was so lost in thought that
he didn't see the pair of yellow eyes staring at
him through the shadows until a spotted cat stepped out
in front of him. If you'd like to hear more,
