Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, and welcome to a special taster of our new
premium only story. We hope you like it. Hello Yo, Hello,
(00:23):
I'm Josephine and this is the Animal Tales podcast, home
to over four hundred stories written just for you. Our
Friday story is especially for our Premium subscribers only. Ellie
is a Premium member from Maine in the USA, and
she would like a story with a sea horse, a flamingo,
and an anemone. Don't forget to listen to the animal
(00:45):
facts after the story to learn more about these creatures.
For now, it's time to sit back and get comfy,
because it's time to begin The Flying Sea Horse. Ellie
and Pearl first became friends. It was by chance. Ellie,
a little sea horse, had been looking for somewhere to sleep.
(01:09):
She'd found a nice wavy plant with lots of long,
thin stems that waved about in the current, and she
thought it was the perfect place to hide. But this
wasn't a plant at all, but an anemone. Pearl, the anemone,
was used to fish, hiding in her wavy tentacles. Although
(01:30):
she looked like a flower, she was actually an animal.
But she didn't have eyes, or arms or legs, and
her mouth was only used for eating, not for talking.
So when she first felt the sea horse, an animal
she'd never encountered before, she shook her tentacles in a
gleeful hello, and much to her delighted surprise, Ellie could
(01:54):
understand her. The pair had become fast friends. As Pearl
was an able to go anywhere, Ellie would spend hours
sat amongst the anemony's tentacles chatting away. Ellie would talk
and Pearl would respond with waves and shivers about other fish,
and about the reef, and about all the things Ellie
(02:15):
had seen. It was coming up to Pearl's birthday, and
Ellie wanted it to be special, if only she could
find her friend a perfect gift. She knew that Pearl
liked shells. The anemone liked caressing them in her tentacles
as she traced the patterns, it was the closest she
(02:36):
got to seeing something Ellie wanted to find Pearl, a
brand new shell that she'd never touched before. To find
such a shell, Ellie swam far across the ocean floor
to where the water was warm and she could see
the shapes of boats above her head. She was looking
for a beach where shells would collect after being swept
(02:59):
along by the waves. But the shallows were different to
the deeper water that Ellie was used to. The tide
here was strong, pulling her back and forth. Soon the
little seahorse was struggling to swim. Usually she would wrap
her tail around seaweed to keep her stable, but there
(03:20):
was nothing here to hold on to. Another wave tumbled
her in the surf passed a long, thin stick in
the water. It stood upright and was pinkish in color.
Ellie reached out, wrapping her tail around it to hold
her steady. She was no longer being pulled around by
(03:41):
the tide, and there were some shells a short distance
away too. Maybe if she pushed off from this pink stick,
she could grab one. But before she could do so,
the stick she was wrapped around moved. One moment, the
little seahorse was under the water, the next she was
(04:02):
high above it. Within seconds, she was looking down at
the ocean from on high. Ellie was so scared she
couldn't even scream. Somehow she was flying. Looking up, she
saw a wall of pink feathers spreading out to either side.
(04:22):
This wasn't a stick she was attached to. It was
the long leg of a large pink bird. The only
birds Ellie had seen before looked nothing like this one
or the others that were flying alongside it. They had
long necks with large hooked beaks and those amazing bright
pink feathers. There were hundreds of them, and quite by accident,
(04:47):
Ellie was traveling with them. The little seahorse wasn't sure
how long they flew, for she spent much of the
time with her eyes tightly shut, not at all keen
to be so hardh Eventually, though, the pink birds began
to glide towards a beautiful blue lake. Even when they
(05:08):
landed in the water, Ellie didn't let go. She didn't
want the birds to take off again and leave her
in this strange place. She was holding on so tightly
that the pink bird raised its foot and Ellie from
the water to inspect it. Dahlia, dear, there's something on
(05:29):
your leg, one of the other birds cried. If you'd
