Speaker 1 (00:00):
There's something that binds us right, and we are love
for Star Wars, but it's also not just a love
for it.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
It's love for what it means.
Speaker 1 (00:07):
It's a love for hope and you know, and there's
so many messages and so many things that thematically we
hope affect our lives and stuff, and we're all when
we all respond to it.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
You want to be a part of something that actually
makes it a difference.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
The oldesting around Gala Sine.
Speaker 4 (00:46):
Welcome to Around the Galaxy, the Star Wars fan talk show.
I'm one of your hosts, Pete Fletzer, and along with
my co host Nick Milke, we bring you conversations with
the people behind the Star Wars fandom. And today we've
got something really special lined up for you. Picture this
a galaxy where Star Wars, Star Trek, Felicity, heroes, and
(01:06):
other things all collide, and at the center of it
all is a remarkable guest who's experienced all of those
exciting worlds. Yes, folks, we are talking about none other
than Greg Grunberg, who's brought his unique touch to the
Star Wars universes, Snap Wexley and so many other great roles.
We can't even begin to list them all here.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Hey, have you ever wondered.
Speaker 4 (01:25):
What it's like to be in the midst of a
Star Wars production with jj Abrams at the Helm, Well,
Greg's got you covered. He shares anecdotes from his friendship
with jj Abrams and what it was like to be
part of the epic Space saga, including one of the
funniest Onset stories I guarantee that you have never heard before.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
But that's not all.
Speaker 4 (01:42):
Greg's conversation also takes us into the world of charity
and community. He talks about his involvement with the Megawish
Foundation and his initiative Talk about It, which raises awareness
for epilepsy. It's really a heartfelt reminder of how the
Star Wars community and fandoms in general rally around causes
that matter. But before we dive into the interview, a

let's not keep our guests waiting. Why don't we bring
in mister Snap Wexley himself.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
There he is, Oh, Snap Wexley back from the dead.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
Is he dead?
Speaker 1 (03:40):
Is he are we sure, I don't know, I mean
on camera, yeah exactly.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
You see an explosion in poe yelling no one's ever
really good.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
I've told you this story before, but for people that
haven't heard, the story was, you know, JJ is my
best friend, j James, best friend the whole world, since
we're five years old.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
And he said to me, you know, oh, look at this,
look at this. I mean that, and guess.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
Why, yes, why I am not gonna.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Look at that. You heard it here first ranked So
you were talking about him, Yeah exactly.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
So no, he you know, when he broke the news
to me that that he had the chance to do this,
and I.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
Was like, oh my god, we're freaking out right. And
then we're talking about it.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
We talk every day, and then he and he tells
me that he's actually going to be doing Star Wars
and he says, I think I have something cool for
you or whatever.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
And then over the course of you know that, when
we were.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
About to do the second film, episode nine, I remember
him saying to me, all right, this is gonna be
really cool, and you're going to die and I was like, no, no, no, no, no,
I'm not dying. No, And so it was an argument
between the two of us because I'm like, dude, what
are you talking about? And then he told me this
is not this is gonna be the last one. He's
not going to do anything probably you know, I mean,
never say no, but uh. And I was like, well,
(05:05):
if you're not involved, then okay, I get it. But
I love Star Wars so much. I said, I couldn't
believe that. You know that that first of all getting
the opportunity, but then but it was a battle. Now
we're working on this new show called Duster. We just
wrapped the season, first season, eight episodes for Max, and
same thing.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
He's like, all right, so.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
Uh and I'm not going to tell you, you know, whether
whether I do die or not.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
But it was the same thing. It's like people tend
to love like they're like, oh, we're gonna oh it's great.
Oh you never.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
So there's this like love for my characters that they
write these great characters, and then they're the ones that
you'll be most disappointed they could you know.
Speaker 5 (05:44):
It sounds like it sounds like JJ is trying to
sean bain you in every way that you can.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Right.
Speaker 4 (05:50):
I was just gonna say, stay off a game of
Thrones man, stay away from r Martin.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
He's like, hey, but by the way, before we go on,
how are you guys, what's going on?
Speaker 4 (06:00):
And it's it's been it's been crazy since we had
you on last week. Actually, we've we've we've created this
Thursday night live show which is atg Live, which we
do usually, but we're doing it here tonight on on Potathon.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
We're good.
Speaker 4 (06:13):
We're just you know, we're loving bringing the Star Wars
news and uh, and you know, the community, the Star
Wars community is it gets a bad rap, right. A
lot of people say things like nobody hates Star Wars
more than Star Wars fans, But the reality is there's
so many great people that we have the opportunity to
talk to on a regular basis, and uh, just this
and and that's kind of the whole thing around Potathon too,
(06:35):
is it's community. It's this great community of people, whether
it's you know, people who we see on the big
screen like yourself, or people behind the scenes or friends
of ours who we've Nick and I are have become
best friends and we've only met a couple of times
because we've met through Star Wars, and that's just so important.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
And so yeah, and you guys are living in different prisons,
so it's hard for that's true.
Speaker 2 (06:59):
That is true. That but look, I will whenever you ask.
I'm on. I mean, this is the thing, the opportunity.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
To become friendly with guys like you and and that
are sincere, that are really nice, I mean everybody I
haven't met. Although I it's so funny you said it,
because every so often I was just at a kinseignia, right,
A good friend of ours had a double kinseignira and
or and his twins, and so it was like kin
and a kinsignetto which guys usually I guess boys usually
(07:28):
don't have it, but I mean, you have twins. Anyway,
it was so beautiful. And my buddy Dennis, he's the dad.
It was incredible. Yeah, I'm sitting there and the pediatrician
for his kids. He has seven kids. Guy was so
nice and so sweet, and he's like, hey, by the way,
I know who you are, and all these people are
coming over and asking for pictures, like so sweet, and
he goes, I know who you are.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
And I'm like, oh, you're a genius. You figured it out.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
And he goes and then he goes what's going what
happened with with with episode eight?
Speaker 2 (07:54):
I hated it. It was the worst.
Speaker 1 (07:57):
Like everybody has a strong opinion, and then I've heard
the opposite, and then I've heard you know, it's exactly right.
And I think it's because they're I mean, Star Trek
is the same thing. There are these people, people are
really smart. It's a very personal thing. It's a personal
thing for me. I grew up with this and you know,
and and it's the mythology and the lore and like
(08:17):
thinking where the characters could go, where they came from,
agreeing and disagreeing with story. It's I don't know, it's
it's the best. I'd rather be a part of something
and obviously I had a small part, but I'd rather
be a part of something that that evokes that kind
of reaction and emotion and intelligence than be a part
of something where it's like.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
What was that. Oh yeah, that's right, and I've almost
forgot about that. You know, it's just important. It's important.
It's a great point.
Speaker 4 (08:43):
And I think that's just and I like to believe
that the majority of the people who come in hot
On Rise, Skywalker or Force Awakens or Last Jedi it's
because this means so much to them, and it's you know,
I mean, honestly, I have I have strong opinions on
on on a lot of it. But also the other
(09:03):
big difference is and it's funny that that the Pedatrician
came in hot with you on on an amount of
Star Wars.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
Now, now I gotta tell you he was he was
three four drinks in fair Fair, which is usually where
I start. And but he, like Nick and I have
this this this sort of mantras like you don't have
to like something, but you're not allowed to be an
asshole about it, right. That's and that's that's the that's
the basic simple thing that we try to go with.
Speaker 4 (09:32):
And and I see it all. I mean, I wear
Star Wars shirts all the time. I hand out podcast
stickers and I tell people like that, And it is funny.
You do get people who some of them are like,
so what do you think that? What did you think
of the sequels? Where do you stand on those? And
you're and you're it's it's in.
Speaker 5 (09:48):
Lismus test, where is this conversation going to?
Speaker 4 (09:52):
When you have the conversation and you you realize they
they think they didn't enjoyed it, or they think they
loved it, but it's they have an an chance to
talk to about it with somebody who can who gets it,
because I mean, let's face it, I mean my wife
right now, she's.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
In the other room.
Speaker 4 (10:07):
She doesn't care about Star Wars. But somebody who cares
about Star Wars needs somebody to talk to about it.
And that's why we're so glad that we can we
can do this sort of thing.
Speaker 2 (10:14):
Yeah, no, it's very very cool. I love it. I
love it.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
And you know, today is a very busy day. I
mean it's you know, I get asked to do a
ton of stuff. You guys are in the top of
my list. Well, we're always thankful your back.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
We are.
Speaker 5 (10:25):
You know, we're gonna get to some Star Wars. I
know you've got a story we want you to tell
us here in a little bit. But we're doing this
for Make a Wish. This is the fourth year that
we're doing potothon raising money for Make a Wish.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
Now let me talk about it.
Speaker 1 (10:36):
Cutting you off, I'm cutting you off with the Chewbacca beard.
I'm cutting you off. So so I just want to
say how much I love Yeah, so I have a band.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
Where's my band?
Speaker 1 (10:49):
I don't have any band stuff here, but I'm called
the Action Figures and in that band is Scott Rhymes,
Adrian Pastar. You know, we've had a million other people
guessed and come into the ban but Nick, mar Zach,
Brad Savage, a bunch of people. But we have people
coming and going and it's you know, we're the we're
Action Figures. So we're on stage. Everybody has an Action
(11:10):
Figure right on stage. So but uh, we got asked
to do the Make a Wish Foundation uh gala in
La and it was so great and now we're getting
inquiries from all Make a Wish is a massive, massive organization.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
They do so much good work.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
So I'm so glad that you when you when I
heard when you told me before, I was like, yeah,
that's that's smart. That's really outside of Apples, which is
my big cause, which you're talking. Sure, I'm just I'm
so happy that you're doing that. How did you guys
get hooked up with them?
Speaker 4 (11:42):
So four years ago during pandemic, me and a couple
other podcasters we said, you know, right now, charities that
we're getting hamorhaed. Right in twenty twenty. We also that
same year we also did something for Toys for Tots.
It was one of those things where I don't know,
and it's it's not in any way meant to. I mean, look,
you do a lot with charity too, and it's when
(12:05):
you talk about it sometimes you feel kind of strange
because you feel like you're kind of humble bragging with
the reality is, we said we need to do something
for charity. And we had that because we did podcasts,
because we did live streaming, we had a platform, we
had We just talked about it before. We had made
friends across the internet, across the country, across the world,
and we said, let's see what we can do. The
(12:26):
first year, we raised about five thousand dollars. Uh last
year we raised over fifteen thousand dollars. So every year
is getting a little bit bigger, a little bit brighter,
and it just you know, again, I was I was
talking to somebody at a party the other day and
it's just a matter of just just give, give a
little bit. And that's the same thing if anybody who's
watching this, but they don't realize if you think, well,
(12:49):
a ten dollars donation doesn't do anything it does a
lot because all of those donations add up.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
As as you know.
Speaker 4 (12:56):
I spoke this morn this week to one of our
partners that Make a Wish and they reminded me in
this fact, this is a number that kills me. And
it's it's true, make a Wish cant They grant a
wish on the average every thirty three minutes, and they're
able to grant a wish, but a kid is diagnosed
with a life changing illness every twenty minutes, which means
(13:19):
that they are constantly playing ketchup. And then the other
big and important thing for me is that nine out
of ten doctors they did to study, nine out of
ten doctors said that a Make a Wish makes a
difference in that fight. So your ten dollars, your twenty dollars,
you're fifty dollars. You can't measure what that means. And
it's not always just sending kids to Disney World or
to Hawaii. It's a bike, it's a it's a.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
PlayStation, whatever that is. It lets them know this is
what my thing is all about. Well talk about it,
that they're not alone, that there are people that care,
that there's other going through it. That there's compassion out there,
and also it lets the caregivers know. I'm doing a
series called The Caregiver Series doc if you go to
ca Cargivers the Caregiver Series dot com. I'm traveling around
(14:03):
the country and I'm taking caregivers out for a day
of care right. I've partnered with Jazz Pharmaceuticals and supports.
Talk about it my podcast and they they they've been
amazing and it's like a real show. I host it,
but I'm so proud of it because you know, when
you sit there's a shorthand that you have with another
caregiver and just like make a wish when they see.
(14:25):
When I see that somebody donated ten dollars, ten dollars
is easier to donate than one hundred.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
Dollars, one thousand dollars, ten thousand dollars.
Speaker 1 (14:32):
But when you see that, it's so easy that other
people are like, oh, it takes the onus where you're like, oh,
it's okay to donate ten ten dollars. Then twenty thousand
people donate ten dollars ten dollars, and now you got
two hundred grand. So it's like it's I think I
did the math right. But that's that's really great.
Speaker 2 (14:48):
I mean I think I think it's awesome.
Speaker 4 (14:50):
So tell us a little bit about talk about it.
I again another really amazing cause.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
Thank you. Yeah. So Jake our oldest son.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
We have three boys, and Jake is twenty seven now
and he's doing great. I mean, he works at bad
Robot with JJ's godfather, got parents JJ and Katie. But
he also he's second degree Taekwon Do black belt. He's
got a great girlfriend, Morgan, and all of his life
he's just living his best life.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
He's doing great.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
And he has epilepsy and when he was seven he
was started having seizures. We went through what I call
the car wash and the rollercoaster of this. He's had
two brain surgeries. He's taking medication that's saving his life.
But it's you know, he's an example of something who's
living well with it.
Speaker 2 (15:40):
A lot of people aren't.
Speaker 1 (15:41):
But a lot of people are experiencing what we experienced
a few times, which is just feeling alone and not
having a voice, not having you know, not realizing that
three plus million people just in the US alone, sixty
five million people around the world are dealing with seizures
and epilepsy, and so you hear that number and it's like, okay.
But when you need something tangible, you need, you need somebody.
(16:03):
I took it upon myself to be that face of
epilepsy as much as I can remove the stigma. It's
scary to see someone have a seizure, but at the
same time, if you know what to do, you turn
them on their side, make sure they're not scraping their
head against the ground. The seizure is going to stop,
and if it doesn't stop after two and a half minutes,
call the paramedics. But never stick anything in their mouth ever.
(16:24):
All of these messages are at are on our podcast.
I do a podcast called Talk About It, and I
also have and videos from every celebrity you can ever imagine,
everybody I've worked with, from Lady Gaga, Jennifer Garner, Harrison Ford,
everybody's affected by this. I just had Lake Bell on
the podcast her daughter has epilepsy. And Josh Dummel was
(16:45):
just hosting the walk here in LA He has a
family member affected, and it's just unfortunate but fortunate.
Speaker 2 (16:52):
That we can bond together, we can come together.
Speaker 1 (16:54):
Another thing, by the way I want to say, is
that these these communities that are like Star Wars is
so strong, like the fan base gets behind a cause,
Star Trek, they get behind a cause. Man, it's amazing.
So I'm trying to harness the power of all that celebrity.
As bullshit as it is, it's important. It grabs attention,
(17:14):
you know, to get people and eyeballs. So if you
go to talk about it on video dot com, you'll
see all the videos. You'll see all your favorite people
asking these questions and then doctors answering them, or go
to the Caregiver series dot com and see these videos.
Speaker 2 (17:26):
But talk about it has been. It's been really great.
Speaker 1 (17:29):
And this this I made these hats up, you know,
because this was our team at the walk to talk
about it. And then it's got the look, you know,
the U r L on the side. But it's it's
great and we we raise awareness, we remove stigma. We
don't ask for any money, unlike U clowns that are
asking no, and we support and we support. And now
(17:50):
we're branching off into other causes and other things. We're
doing autism, we're doing Alzheimer's cancer, whatever. We just had
all these people effort and Rameira was just in Howie
Mendel was just in, I'm getting these celebrities into do
the podcast. They're doing PSAs for me to talk about
rescue meds, to talk about all the stuff that's important
in any condition. But then we talk about stuff that's
(18:12):
important to them. And so like how we went off
on a fIF he's got a fit and it's just great.
Speaker 2 (18:18):
It's talk about it.
Speaker 1 (18:19):
It's been a great platform and it's really exploding with
the help of guys like you that are helping me
get the word out.
Speaker 4 (18:25):
So well, we're happy to do and you know you,
I've worked in healthcare before, and I think what's really
unique about what what you're doing with talk about it
is again you can also tie it in a way
to make a wish and that you're supporting the support group,
because I think that that's that's the thing I mean
right now, I mean, without TMI, we're dealing with you know,
(18:48):
we're dealing with stuff with parent age stuff, right yeah,
so am I and and that support group that we
need to support, like just to keep ourselves from losing
our minds right to feel like, hey, we're not the
only ones going through this.
Speaker 1 (19:01):
It's you know, so by the way I just saw
and I know this is not time to be funny,
but you just reminded me of something. Here's a comedian
I just I don't I don't know who he is.
I'm gonna butcher By Song on social media today. It
was so funny.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
He was like, do you remember when your.
Speaker 1 (19:15):
Kids were like really really little and then your your
parents came over and they were like, oh, well watch
them for a little bit, he said. He said, when
grandparents come over and watch the little kids, it's like
somebody returning to a job they haven't done in thirty five.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
Years and going and going, oh, I used to do
this and you're like no, no, no, everything's different, you know,
and they're like, feed them sugar. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (19:37):
It was just so funny, but it's it is it's
interesting because I'm you know, my mom has early on
set and my dad is ninety two this year, and
you know, this is this is a whole other level
of caregiving that everybody relates to. I don't know exactly
what you're talking about, but it's it's very it's tough.
It's a whole new thing where you go, wait, roles
(19:59):
are being reversed here. Yep, and there needs to be
tons of understanding. There needs to be talk about talking
about it, like we need to be able to have
open dialogue with our spouse, with our our siblings, you know,
because our cousins, our aunts and uncles, everybody needs to
have compassion.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
Slow down. No, you're not right. I'm not right. You know,
it's like it's the how the care gonna. It's just
it's it's brutal man.
Speaker 4 (20:22):
And the stress of the caregiver, whether it's an epilepsy parent,
or a cancer kid patient parent, or or taken care
of a parent, there's there's there's something to be said
to be able to just sort of sit down and
you know, talk about it, which is just such a
brilliant name to.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
To go with on all that stuff.
Speaker 5 (20:38):
So yeah, you so love it well, And I want
to I want to ping on something that you talked
about too, Greg. You said, you know these communities Star Wars,
Star Trek, you know, they respond when there's causes, when
there's things.
Speaker 2 (20:52):
I love your insight. Why do you think it is?
Speaker 5 (20:53):
What do you think it is about fandom communities that
respond in this way when there's causes going on.
Speaker 1 (20:59):
I think I think because it elongates the love you
have for something common, like something some commonality.
Speaker 2 (21:05):
I really do believe that we all want to.
Speaker 1 (21:07):
Be a part of something, and it's you know, I
just recently lost a guy that I really considered to
be a really he was a friend and I didn't
even I never met him in person, but he and
he he lived, you know, he lives somewhere else. I
had he and his wife on the podcast and I
just fell in love with him and his family and everything.
(21:27):
And unfortunately he just passed away. But we we bonded
over stuff and he was like, oh, you're so different.
You're this liberal, crazy guy out there, you know, And I'm.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
Like, what does that happen? Who cares what I think?
Speaker 1 (21:39):
We're all and so there's something that binds us, right,
and we are love for Star Wars, our love for
Star trek Are, but it's also not just a love
for it's love for what it means. It's a love
for hope and and you know, and there's so many
messages and so many things that thematically we hope affect
our lives and stuff, and we're all when we all
(21:59):
respond to it. We may disagree on the story, but
we're responding to the message, and we can all agree
on the message, and we all love a good ending
and hate a bad ending and want hope. And so
it's when you when you give that another reason for
that glue to stay together longer. I think that's why
people are like, hey, and also you want to be
a part of something that actually makes a difference. Today,
(22:22):
all we're doing is separating each other and hating on
each other, and it's us versus them, and we're just
it's being reinforced so that people get power and they're
using us as pawns.
Speaker 2 (22:31):
It's like, just like we all love Star Wars.
Speaker 1 (22:34):
Hey, we can all make a difference because we all
came together because we all met.
Speaker 2 (22:38):
That's what it's all about. Man, Yeah, you know, it's great.
Speaker 4 (22:41):
I think that's a great observation. I think it's yeah.
I mean the communities. I mean that's what the word
community means, right, you're coming together for something. So we've
said the word Star Wars and the words Star Trek.
I have to ask, are you you're the only actor
acting off top my ahead who's been in both Star
(23:02):
Wars and Star Trek.
Speaker 2 (23:03):
I am I missing? I'm probably missing some really Simon Pegg.
Speaker 1 (23:09):
Deep Roy has been right, but these people have not
necessarily been in both without prosthetics. I told Simon, I
was like, Simon, no, no, no, it doesn't cuts people know,
but now I didn't write a Star Trek.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
I didn't. The guy is so much more talented than
I am. But I still no.
Speaker 1 (23:29):
There are there are a few people, but I'm I
seem to be the bearing the torch of that. Proudly,
so proudly. But always people are like, what's your favorite?
If you could pick between one, you know, and it's like,
give me a break, man, what's the my light latest residual?
Speaker 2 (23:44):
Check? Which one was that from? Okay? That you know?
I love them.
Speaker 1 (23:48):
I love them equally, I really do. I mean, I
have to say I was not a giant Star Trek
fan growing up.
Speaker 2 (23:55):
I just wasn't. That wasn't you know.
Speaker 1 (23:56):
So it was very intimidating when I go to these
like my band is playing Star Trek Convention in August.
Speaker 2 (24:04):
We're going back.
Speaker 1 (24:04):
We played last year and they asked us to play
again in Vegas and it's it's amazing the first time
that I got asked to go to a convention and
then host I had to interview Chatner and I.
Speaker 2 (24:16):
Was like, oh my god. I was like, I don't
know these I don't know enough.
Speaker 1 (24:21):
And and Wheat and Will was like, just ask one
question and then get the fuck out because Bill will
just talk.
Speaker 5 (24:30):
And Bill's got it.
Speaker 1 (24:32):
Bill got it, Bill got it. Like drop the mic
into his hand and you're good. And that's that's exactly
what happened. Also, don't admit that you know anything more
than you do when someone says, you know, oh, remember
that thing and the thing. If you don't remember, it's
okay with these, you know, with these cannons to go.
People come up to me and they're like, you know,
your mom was such a great pilot. I'm like, what
(24:54):
are you talking about? Like and then I have to
research it and look it up. You know, It's it's
okay to not you know, know as much as other
people don't pretend you know, and the communities are sweet,
they'll guide you through it, you know.
Speaker 4 (25:08):
Yes, it's yeah. I mean, but come on, doctor Bones,
you had to you know, I know, well there were
mister Bones. Mister see, I'm a Star Wars guy and
I didn't.
Speaker 5 (25:18):
Even get it.
Speaker 2 (25:18):
I know, I know, I wasn't gonna let it go.
Speaker 5 (25:20):
But he was gonna Yeah, he's gonna let you slide
me job. Speaking of Star Wars, you have the story
for us. We have talked to you before you're on
a couple of years ago.
Speaker 2 (25:35):
We had a lot of fun.
Speaker 5 (25:37):
Tell us this story because I've heard part of this
and I'm ready to hear the whole thing.
Speaker 1 (25:43):
Okay, this is insane. So my son who was the
inspiration I'm just gonna plug the plug away. Yes, my
son who was the inspiration for Dream drumper My graphic novels.
But both book book one and.
Speaker 4 (25:56):
Two you get on Amazon right now, right, I mean
they're still there, Amazon.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
Go get it, Go Elastic put it out. It's my
loves my son freaking loves it. Yes, yeah, I'm so glad. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (26:07):
It's about a kid who's able to jump in and
out of his friend's dreams and save them from the nightmares.
Speaker 2 (26:11):
Stuff's happening with the books. I can't talk about it,
but I'm so excited about it. Anyway.
Speaker 1 (26:15):
So the ky Maine character's name is Ben, and my
son Ben is the one who had this nightmare and
it all started from there anyway, So I'm shooting shooting
episode nine, and it's Christmas time and everybody's on vacation,
and I decided this is the perfect time to bring
my My family had never been to Europe, my wife
(26:35):
and I had, but my boys hadn't. So I said, okay,
let's go over to London. So they came over. We
were shooting at Pinewood and so we came over there.
I didn't realize. I mean, of course, when they came over,
We're seeing all the sights and going around London and
it's just great. And then I said, okay, we're going
to go out to Pinewood. We're going to go to
the stages. And they're like, ah, this is gonna be great,
you know. So we get there and as soon as
(26:57):
we check in, they're like, all right, so no one's
here right now, so no photos, ron, you can't have
your phones. And we were like okay, and this head
of security said, I'll take you guys around. So he
takes us around, he takes us on stage. As soon
as they get on stage and he closes the door,
he goes, can I have a picture?
Speaker 2 (27:13):
And I was like, what nicest guy? Nicest guy you
can imagine? Right, So he was just so sweet.
Speaker 1 (27:19):
Showed us everywhere, and one of the things he showed
us was the falcon, and he showed us the cockpit
is separate on the falcon. So I've told the story
of or JJ was already shooting, but I'm walking through
them one him falcon.
Speaker 2 (27:30):
Not allowed to have my phone. You know, I've got
my phone out. What are you gonna tell me? I'm
JJ's best friend. What do you? And I was shooting.
It was just like that, you know, Chewy, We're home
moment for me. I was like, this is incredible anyway,
So it was.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
All dark and it's not very impressive when the falcon's impressive.
We took pictures in there and everything. But then the
cockpit is separate. It's off the ground and it's it's
all wide open. So it's just a bunch of you.
It's the inside is all there, you know, And having
flown an X wing, I can tell you things are
held together with rubber cement. Things are falling apart, and
(28:05):
then it's like it's what you expect, right, but it's
it's really impressive anyway. He says, no, you boys have
to go up there.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
They got to sit in the cockpit. So okay.
Speaker 1 (28:13):
So he gets a ladder and it goes off, gets
a ladder, brings it over and says, all right, boys,
get up there. They all climb up and now they're
in the cockpit and he goes, all right, I couldn't
even take a picture of them because it was, you know,
six feet.
Speaker 2 (28:24):
Off the ground was their feet.
Speaker 1 (28:26):
And then they're up there, and he go and the
guys and they're up there and they're like, whoa, this
is so cool just sitting in here, just being in here.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
And it's on a gimbal. That's why it's off the
ground so that they can move it and everything.
Speaker 1 (28:37):
So he then says, okay, I gotta He goes, wait,
I gotta get another ladder. Something happen with the ladder.
He's like, I gotta get another ladder to get them off.
So he goes to get the other ladder, comes back.
We get down, We walk around the lot a little
bit exteriors, and then we go and we're in the
car and my son says to me and I go
(28:57):
and they were like, Dad, thanks so much.
Speaker 2 (28:59):
That was so cool.
Speaker 1 (29:00):
I'm like, absolutely no problem. And then I hear Sam
go then tell him, tell him and I'm like, what
what just happened? And he goes, well, I shouldn't have,
but and this is something that any other dad may
have gone, what did you get? And scold you just
done the proudest moment in my life. He goes, hey, Dad,
I stole chewing steatbelt. I stole the shoeing the seatbelt.
Speaker 2 (29:28):
Now you have to understand when I'm shooting, I was
shooting Star Wars my badge they I mean this. I
wanted a bat. I went on my badge, That's all
I wanted.
Speaker 3 (29:38):
No.
Speaker 1 (29:38):
As soon as they say cut, they came over and
they were like all right, and they made sure they
get all the props back and everything they done.
Speaker 2 (29:43):
I wanted my helmet, I wanted my my jumpsuit. I
wanted anything from Star Wars. Nothing.
Speaker 1 (29:49):
And I can tell you, Billy Lord Billy told me
that even Carrie got nothing like they back then. They
held onto everything, you know, so you have to like
kind of be sneaky. I was like, then you are
my favorite son and will be my favorite friend forever.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
I'm not gonna lie. How cool is this?
Speaker 1 (30:08):
And I'm sure there are sixteen of these, I'm sure,
But then I don't know if you remember, but like
Ryan Johnson had.
Speaker 2 (30:16):
Months whatever the years, A couple of years later or whatever.
Speaker 1 (30:19):
Oh no, it was before somebody had asked Ryan Johnson
about the seat belts in the Falcon.
Speaker 2 (30:24):
It was a question that people asked, did they wear
seat belts? And he responded he was like, yeah, Chue,
he's got a seat belt. And I was like, oh
my god, out there.
Speaker 4 (30:33):
It doesn't work anymore, but he's got a seatbelts.
Speaker 5 (30:36):
Get a little nervous somebody's knocking you out or something.
Speaker 1 (30:39):
You got to be I got to say as soon
as my character went down in a ball of flames,
I'm like, dude, be now, yeah, come after me.
Speaker 2 (30:48):
Who cares? So now I'm I'm I'm just so so.
It's the highlight of my career I've had.
Speaker 1 (30:56):
I've been so lucky, you know, to work with amazing
people and everything, but to be a part of Star
Wars for me, just because it meant so much to me.
And then to be able to make a difference and
meet guys like you, and then also you know, be
able to do something to help make a wish, you know,
it's one of my favorite charity.
Speaker 2 (31:11):

my favorite You reminded me one of my favorite things
to do when arguing with people about Star Wars or
you know, passionately discussing I should say star Wars or
anything else. Some people want me to solve arguments and
I and they they've asked me. One of my most
popular cameos is having somebody go have snapped Wexley, just
(32:20):
clear it and end the conversation and the argument for them,
and it's awesome. I'm breaking up couples now on I
think Cameo, the novelty is over, so I'm literally look
at this, look at this. He actually guys again. But
but the cameos that people asking me to do right
now are hilarious, and a lot of them are. You know,
(32:42):
can you solve this this argument we're having once and
for all about episode seven. I mean, it's just hilarious.
So go to Cameo and and book me. I'm more
than happy to, you know, tell your uncle lou to
go to help.
