Wel cous Yay, welcome to AGG Live. You're Thursday and
at home for all things Star Wars. I'm one of
your hosts, Pete Flitzer. I'm joined as always by my
co host and good friend Nick Milkey. Nick, what is
going on? Man? Do you have thunderstorms there today?
Speaker 6 (02:03):
We are We're in this mode where the state of
Alabama was in drought conditions literally for like the last
six or seven months, and here, with the amount of
brain we've gotten in the last two weeks, we are
fully no longer in drought condition. So one, welcome to
ACG Live, where we do old man things like talk
about rain in the weather and exactly get these kids
(02:28):
off my lawn. No, we're not currently in storms, but
we had rain this afternoon and it's kind of one
of those summer afternoon rain storm situations. But it's not
raining inside in my studio, and that means it's a
great Thursday night to hang out with some friends and
talk about some very fun Star Wars things.
Speaker 5 (02:48):
Yes, absolutely, well, I'm wearing my Philly s hat. I
got clanker wearing his Philly sat because it shouldn't be
so excited to beat the Marlins. But we did it.
And just before he came on, I was watching the
game and uh so and the Braves. I do have
to thank the Braves for beating the Mets yesterday because
it's helping the Phillies get the first base that we need.
(03:10):
I'll give up a couple couple on those, so so
you know that's fine. But yeah, for those of you
keeping score at home, we do have a baseball bet.
It's me and Nick. I got the Philis, he's got
the Braves, and we have Kelsey who's got Detroit who's
probably still in the lead, but I can't see that happen.
(03:31):
And I know, yes, Kelsey.
Speaker 4 (03:35):
Number one, all right. Also, like I just I can't
even believe we already started off with like old man
weather talk. I'm like, what are we doing tonight? Like
what are we doing?
Speaker 5 (03:50):
Well, pretty soon we're going to be talking about about
this just the you know, retirement accounts and finances in
the Star Wars world. So oh that sounds like, oh
this thrilling one to remember. So all right, goodbye, Okay,
(04:11):
so what else we got going on? Who's on the
show tonight?
Speaker 6 (04:14):
So, in my best David letterman, if I were to
tap my pen on the microphone, I would say, do
you like rock and roll kids, because we've got a
big show tonight. We have a really fun band called
the Three Pos, and we have two members of that band,
Patrick and Savannah are going to join us and they're
going to talk about the really fun Star Wars music
that they make and being a band and being Star
(04:34):
Wars fans. You and I are both band guys. We
are both bass players, so this is right in our wheelhouse.
This is something that you know, you and I love,
so I am very excited to welcome here. In just
a short little bit, we're going to welcome in the
Three Pos to talk about their Star Wars journey.
Speaker 5 (04:50):
That's awesome. I'm looking forward to it and checking them
out on the on the on the interwet so old.
You know, you can't buy cassettes anymore. I don't know
if you're aware of that. You have to go to
the Spotify and listen to the music. Jeez, we're losing
people quickly here, but you know we are. You know,
(05:12):
we are pretty cool because we do have all the
the website and web. Elsey's laughing because I said we're
pretty cool. We have a website where you can buy
our merch you can keep. If you go to the
SSW network dot com, you'll see the U r L
right below there. Go over there and you'll be able
to buy some merch. We have some cool T shirts.
(05:32):
We just released a UH I have Weird Space Friends
Everywhere shirt and stickers and mug. I'm gonna get the mug.
I gotta get the mug for for the for the
drinks and so we also have You can follow us
on all the social media at the s SW network.
We're at on on Twitter, and we're on the UH.
(05:55):
You know all of them even even believe it or not. TikTok,
which is freaking hilario is because it's Nick doing dances
to all his favorite songs. I think we got to
move that. We got to make that happen a little
bit more. Also, you can join our Patreon program for
as little as three dollars a month. You can have
early access to interviews and shows. You get swagged. We
(06:16):
are working on our next swag pack, which is going
to be going out the door pretty soon. You can
you can join us for some of our interviews. We
have certain opportunities sometimes and Nick and I are working
on a patron a happy hour sometime pretty soon. So it'skay, yeah,
(06:36):
that's that's nice. Thank you, Payne, appreciate that. So Nick,
what else am I forgeting?
Speaker 7 (06:43):
Stuff?
Speaker 5 (06:44):
I'm forgetting like voicemail.
Speaker 6 (06:45):
The only other big thing is this is a This
is a you involved show and not you, you, Pete,
You the watch our listener, anybody who is hanging out
with us now if you're listening to the podcast replay,
because we've started dropping this into the podcast feed the
live show, we want you to be involved. We've got
the live chat going, We've got folks hanging out tonight.
We know some more will be coming in as we
(07:06):
go throughout the evening. We also have right here above
my silly face, we have our voicemail number five zero
four three two one fifteen oh one. If you give
that call literally anytime, day or night. Star Wars, thoughts,
crazy theories, reasons you think we're bad at this, whatever
it is that you want to call and leave on
that voicemail, we'll talk about it. We don't have any
(07:26):
shame because we're here to have fun. We're here to
have a good time, and so we have a voicemail
line because we want people to be involved in the show.
Like I said, leaving your chats. Some weeks we throw
the link in the chat for people to call in.
I don't know that tonight's going to be one of
those nights. Sorry, Eric if you're watching, But this is
a show and we do what We would be doing
(07:46):
this if none of you are here watching, because we
just love Star Wars and hanging out. But it's better
when we've got our viewers and our listeners involved. So
check out the voicemail, give us a call, leave us
a message. We always love to hear from all of you.
Speaker 5 (07:59):
Absolutely, I do want to just mention one more time.
This will probably be the last time I push it.
But we did a seven part series covering and Or
season two where we took apart all four of the
arcs week to week, and then we did a couple
of special after shows with we talked about the politics
of and Or, we got some insight from various other podcasters,
(08:19):
and then we had an episode where we took your
calls and we talked about and Or season two. So
we're really proud of that little piece of podcastory. If
that's a word, it is now and go check that
out if you are so inclined, if you love to
and Or and you want to continue to think about
it and talking about it, I can't stop thinking about it.
I just I built the and Or Ewing x Lego
(08:43):
set today. That's what I did because it was ninety
five degrees out and I said, I'm not going outside.
I'm going to play with my legos. So that's what I.
Speaker 6 (08:50):
Did as any responsible grown adult, for sure.
Speaker 5 (08:52):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely so correct.
Speaker 6 (08:55):
Well, speaking of loving and Or and loving Star Wars,
we can't do what we do, and it's evidence by
the fact that we came out of the intro video
not on screen because we're bad at running the show
by ourselves. We've seen her once already tonight. But our
producer Kelsey is in the house. Kelsey, how are you?
Thank you for being with us as always, I'm.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
Doing pretty great. H I don't know, like I'm ready
to roast you guys, like for like a billion different
things are but like it's okay, likes.
Speaker 6 (09:25):
Make it easy.
Speaker 4 (09:26):
Yeah, like you guys just opened it up and just
made it like like mistakes after mistakes.
Speaker 6 (09:34):
It's yes, Well that's why you're here, and that's why
the fabulous Chris Ryans is also here. Hey, Chris, Happy Thursday.
What is up?
Speaker 4 (09:45):
Hey?
Speaker 8 (09:47):
I heard earlier you guys talking like old man talking
and whatnot. We can continue that because I'm also over fifty.
Speaker 5 (09:54):
I'm back.
Speaker 9 (09:57):
He's killing me right now, so my back, my knees.
You know, you know the change of seasons, Chris. Every
year we need.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
We just have to.
Speaker 6 (10:11):
We have to make it Star Wars relevant, you know,
change from one season of the show to the next.
Speaker 5 (10:16):
Start. I used to dance. It's at a jump off
of stuff. Can you imagine jumping off of anything? Terrible idea,
a terrible idea, just thinking?
Speaker 4 (10:31):
Are giving me like major Peter Pan syndrome. I'm like,
I don't think I want to.
Speaker 8 (10:36):
Want to ever If yeah, if you get the chance
to not highly recommend you start, you you want to
be forever young.
Speaker 6 (10:49):
We are continuing the month of June or so as
we all can see. I have my juniors figure, I
have my beer pored up for anyviewer tuning in, for
our guests who hang out in the background. This is
a dumb tradition that started in the month of October
with Snoketoberfest. We drop an action figure in a beer,
we play a ten to fifteen second clip of an
audio It started with the snoke I have been every
(11:11):
voice you've ever heard inside your head, and the goal
is as a part of your toast, you finish your
beer before the audio clip is over. So it's become
very punny. It is currently the month of June, so
it is June or so as Pete gets our audio
clip ready. So what happens most of the time is
I raise a toast, I chug this beer by myself,
(11:31):
and everybody else just watches in horror at what an
alcoholic I've become chugging these beers in ten to fourteen seconds.
So there's only one real way to go. Tonight, it
is Juneteenth, and so we're going to raise our a
celebratory toast to everyone who is celebrating. Juneteenth is an
important holiday. I'm so glad that it has become a
federal holiday. Even here in the state of Alabama, it's
(11:53):
a state holiday. It's important to celebrate these things throughout
our history because our history is important and it's important
to remember important milestone. So I am raising our junior
so toast tonight to Juneteenth to everyone who's watching. Happy
Star Wars and here we go. Congratulations, you are being
(12:17):
rescued again. Do not resist, please, do not resist.
Speaker 4 (12:25):
Like I noticed you just like took like a little sip,
like you're just like because I started to get embarrassed,
like I got called out by Clinton and like a
couple of times I was like no that, like I
could not chug on nixed level. So like I don't know,
like the little little sip like seems like the way
(12:45):
to go. I should do that next time.
Speaker 5 (12:48):
Please please go clean that figure.
Speaker 4 (12:52):
No, I'm gonna leave it like real moldy.
Speaker 5 (12:57):
She's had a rough months.
Speaker 6 (13:00):
Still got a little bit from but that's okay. What
is wait?
Speaker 5 (13:03):
So we have one more June and then what's July?
Do we know July is yet? Have we planned that
for an advance?
Speaker 6 (13:10):
I think we do. In fact, I think that was
another one that some of our friends in the Twitter
group chat.
Speaker 4 (13:16):
I feel like you sent a very good Patreon for July,
but I don't did.
Speaker 6 (13:21):
And then I deleted my Twitter, so I'm not even
in there anymore. So somebody will have to go ritrieve it.
I can go to its right, We'll do that later.
Speaker 5 (13:29):
All right, Well, hey, we are going to take a
quick break and when we come back, we are going
to be joined by two of the three Three Pos,
and I'm really excited to talk to them. As Nick said,
it's fun, fun music, all Star Wars humor, so it
should be a lot of fun. So we're gonna take
quick break and we'll be right back with more ATG Live.
(13:50):
Around the Galaxy and ATG Live are brought to you
by bro. Actually my outposts the place to buy any
of your Star Wars needs or you or g I
Joe needs or heman or any of this stuff. Comics, figures, lightsabers, helmets,
you name it. Go get it at roaximappost dot com
and use the code ATG ten for ten percent off
(14:13):
your first order. I love that joke. Okay, well, Nick,
we are joined by a brand new to us. We
just have discovered this band called the Three Pos. They
are a human cyborg musician's named Patrick, Savannah and d
and together they celebrate a lifetime love of Star Wars
(14:35):
by writing and performing original tribute songs as well as
parodies of classic pop, rock and new wave tunes so
good that we can't even play their parodies because YouTube
will say, hey, wait, a minute. That's Flock of Seagulls.
Their music is fun, it's clever, it's infectious in all
the right ways. Before we bring them in, let's check
out their single called She's in Love with the Dark Side.
Speaker 6 (15:03):
He's partice super she still.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
Shows by just get its.
Speaker 3 (15:14):
Chilling up, chumping into this time.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
To gs it the touch sign.
Speaker 5 (15:34):
Well, welcome to the show, Patrick and Savannah of the
Three Pos. How you guys doing?
Speaker 6 (15:39):
Hey, how are you?
Speaker 10 (15:41):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (15:41):
So good?
Speaker 2 (15:42):
So good?
Speaker 6 (15:43):
This is standing in standing love it, love it well.
We are so thrilled that you guys are here. We
really are excited to get a chance to catch up
and learn a little bit about your story. As a
means of introducing yourselves, we're going to jump in this
way introduce yourselves. Tell us what instrument you play, and
(16:03):
maybe how you would describe the Three Pos as a band.
Speaker 11 (16:06):
Okay, I'm Patrick. I play a little of everything, but live.
I play guitar and I sing, And.
Speaker 5 (16:15):
I don't know what do you think?
Speaker 7 (16:19):
I mean? You write the songs.
Speaker 3 (16:21):
I write the songs.
Speaker 5 (16:22):
That's the thing.
Speaker 3 (16:24):
There's my little co pilot wolf.
Speaker 6 (16:28):
Look at that.
Speaker 5 (16:30):
Very nice high.
Speaker 7 (16:33):
I play the keyboards.
Speaker 11 (16:35):
Uh, I did play all the bass on the recording
to I should mention you guys said you were bass players.
Speaker 10 (16:41):
The boys are both multi instrumentalists, so Ed plays guitar
and bass and drums and violin, and Patrick plays all
the instruments.
Speaker 11 (16:51):
And how much call for and Star Wars you never know.
Speaker 10 (16:59):
I've got I've got keys and vibes and once in
a while of harp, but I I am at least
versatile and random random percussion and ye, yeah, but yeah,
in any case, And how would I described the Three
pos Y premier Star Wars party band? So sort of
(17:23):
sort of say like that, we've occasionally played clump shows
where they were expecting just sort of a traditional cover band,
and people have been really amused and confused, and it's
been really fun. We do things like, you know, play
Divo's Whip It but it's wicked and uh and things
(17:44):
like that, and we're in the Star Wars costumes and
people kind of either really love it or really baffled.
Speaker 7 (17:51):
And I really enjoyed that.
Speaker 11 (17:55):
We really enjoyed mixing it up, like being able to
play original songs and write original songs, but also would
be able to do parodies of just songs that we
want to play that are fun to play and just
celebrate it by putting a Star Wars spin on it.
Speaker 5 (18:06):
You know, it's a fun way to do it because,
as Nick and I said, we're both we've both been
in cover bands, and yeah, playing the real version of
a song versus having some fun with it is uh
is it's more fun for us to do on stage, right,
rather than the same old, same old. So how long
have you guys been around? How long did you When
did you guys form?
Speaker 11 (18:24):
And so the band formed on the fortieth anniversary of
Return of the Jedi. Okay, so very recently, just in
the last couple of years, but we were playing music
before that. So actually, the three of us have been
playing music for quite a while in a band that
does cartoon themes called the Shakeups, and and after COVID
we sort of splintered off and decided to do this
(18:46):
other thing.
Speaker 10 (18:47):
The three well the three of us were the three
of us started playing together as some as the Resounding Maybies.
Speaker 7 (18:53):
So this is really funny.
Speaker 10 (18:54):
You said you were cover band guys, And the funny
thing for me, I went to art school and I've
only been in original bands, and I know that kind
of that's kind of weird because you would normally have
passed through a cover.
Speaker 3 (19:05):
Bands and then you move on.
Speaker 5 (19:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (19:08):
Right.
Speaker 7 (19:09):
For some reason, I was in an arready golf band.
Speaker 10 (19:13):
Kind of thing playing shimmering key sounds and I really
enjoyed that a very cure sounding hullabloo button in case.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
Uh.
Speaker 10 (19:22):
This has been a blast for me because I have
never you know, I haven't really had the occasion to
get to learn covers. And when I did learn covers,
when I was in other bands that learned learned covers,
it was always some Often it was things that didn't
have keys, like oh, we're playing a Smashing Pumpkins song,
it doesn't have keys. Figure something out, Savannah, and I
feel like, okay, fine.
Speaker 11 (19:43):
There's a lot of fun Eighties, especially key parts to learn.
Speaker 3 (19:47):
You know.
Speaker 11 (19:48):
The problem is there's so many layers. You have to
choose what layer you're going to play line. There's just
so many parts, all the.
Speaker 10 (19:54):
Parts, and I do play all the parts recordings, but
I can't play all of the parts at this game
times sometimes because they're not designed like that. But them
things like we learned, uh. I never want to give
you up because this is the most ridiculous key line
to the whole world.
Speaker 8 (20:07):
That's terrible, like true, that's very Yeah.
Speaker 11 (20:13):
At one point we the three of us played in
a Cure tribute band, a tribute band Cure, and so
that's where a couple of the parody songs started out.
Speaker 3 (20:22):
And yeah, it's been a little time.
Speaker 10 (20:23):
That was the first time I learned a bunch of covers.
But but these are goofy covers and like like everybody
weighing chung and and you know, stuff like that that
I had never learned before.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
Cars What Cure song was it that had you stumped?
Was it, uh, why can't I Be You?
Speaker 10 (20:39):
Where there's like a horn, why can't I be You?
Speaker 7 (20:43):
And it's it's all multi multi layer horn part.
Speaker 10 (20:46):
And I learned the whole thing, right, Not only did
I learn the whole thing, I learned I figured out
a really cludgy way to.
Speaker 7 (20:52):
Play it all at once, but it was it was
very awkward.
Speaker 11 (20:56):
And then I showed her a live clip of them
playing it where a guy is just playing it with
one finger.
Speaker 10 (21:01):
Yeah, and I'm here doing this like trying to all
the complicated parts sang and I'm like, I got it,
I got it.
Speaker 7 (21:11):
I finally got it, and he calls me upstairs and
shows me the record, you know, the live show. I'm like, well,
there could have done that.
Speaker 11 (21:16):
And there's some parts were clearly not recorded by a
human being, like the things are never going to give
you up. That was all sequence music, like there was
no live musicians on that.
Speaker 3 (21:26):
I don't think at all.
Speaker 7 (21:27):
I founded out how to play the two parts.
Speaker 11 (21:29):
So a lot of it, too, is taking a song
that's that's sort of canned in that way and adding
some life to it with the real instruments too.
Speaker 10 (21:36):
So and it feels really silly too, because I think
I think somebody as like.
Speaker 7 (21:41):
Curioky tracking you're just gonna learn the whole thing.
Speaker 10 (21:44):
And I'm like, well, because we can't because he changed
the lyrics so it's not actually the same same.
Speaker 11 (21:50):
Yeah, I really enjoy layering guitar parts when we record, too,
Like I just like figuring all all those things and
layering them in there.
Speaker 5 (21:58):
It's just fun.
Speaker 10 (21:59):
It's been really and silly, so especially self terious already.
Band to do this was.
Speaker 6 (22:05):
Like, and I think it's really neat and you you know,
you've said the word fun multiple times because that's exactly
what it is. And I think something that has stood
out to me discovering you guys, but seeing and of
course we live in a world in social media right
now where you get all these other things that show
up in your feed. There's you guys. I saw recently
there's the band that does the Mario Kart music live
(22:27):
while people play Mario Kart at a bar. That's incredible.
It also kind of reminds me because it's so niche
and like you said, people showing up thinking it's a
regular cover band, but you're there in costumes like we've
got the Empire strips back the burlesque, you know, Star
Wars show Like there's this space for entertainment because we
anybody can go see just a cover band at your
(22:49):
local bar. But if your nerds, like we are, if
you have this other specified interest, it becomes this whole
other layer. And I'm sure there's you know, God knows,
there's probably Harry Potter cover bands, Lord of the Ring,
whatever it is, everything you want is out there.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
Harry Potter cover bands.
Speaker 6 (23:06):
Yeah, So I think that I think it's so fun
that you guys have found, you know, this thing that
certainly ties into clearly a love of Star Wars that
you guys have on top of the musician. So it
just it's the best of all the worlds.
Speaker 11 (23:20):
We We've been a part of a lot of different
fandoms and you know, like I said, we've done cartoon
themes and some other kind of stuff. I'm in a
Star Trek band actually also, but you know what they Wars.
Star Wars was my first fandom, so this is special
for me for that reason.
Speaker 10 (23:35):
Yeah, we had a we had not a marital conflict exactly,
but when I met him, he was in a Star
Trek band that I was helping run a Star Trek convention,
and uh, and he was wearing a Kirk outfit when.
Speaker 7 (23:49):
I met him.
Speaker 10 (23:49):
And then on one of our first few dates, he said, actually, honestly,
my heart is really with Star Wars.
Speaker 7 (23:56):
And we had like a big fight about it where
I'm like.
Speaker 6 (24:00):
You don't even work out, but uh, it was.
Speaker 10 (24:06):
It was, and now I'm now I'm just as prissly
and I'm.
Speaker 5 (24:09):
Any story that starts with I met him and he
was wearing this Captain Kirk uniform. You know, that's that's
that just goes to its own place and has some fun.
Speaker 11 (24:20):
It was a special green Kirk uniform they only wear
in select in select episodes, like on Laundry Day, So
if that helps all.
Speaker 3 (24:27):
It's the more rare cirky.
Speaker 10 (24:30):
A collectible card game tournament and I gotten kicked out.
My friend took me to go see a band to
cheer me up.
Speaker 5 (24:37):
And was it his band?
Speaker 7 (24:38):
It was his band?
Speaker 6 (24:41):
Fantastic. How did you get kicked out?
Speaker 5 (24:43):
I gotta How did you get kicked out of a
collectible car?
Speaker 7 (24:47):
Kicked out?
Speaker 6 (24:47):
I lost?
Speaker 7 (24:49):
I mean I lost.
Speaker 5 (24:51):
It was the hand you were done, I see.
Speaker 10 (24:55):
So actually I lost in a funny way. My my
deck was a deck of the Valkyries. It was all
the great women of Star Trek, and I uh, And
I went up against I went up to somebody who
had a bunch of male love interests in there, which
was like a card that you can play against a
female character and they they fall in love and they like,
go off with this these This person just happened to
(25:17):
have a bunch of those, and I had all women
on my my whole deck, and so like all of
my women just went gogaf with these guys and wandered off.
Speaker 5 (25:26):
How do you have a whole deck full of Kirks
I don't understand.
Speaker 6 (25:29):
Yeah, yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 10 (25:30):
Just a lot of a lot of hymbos in that deck, and.
Speaker 3 (25:37):
What are you gonna do?
Speaker 5 (25:40):
I'm just like, I'm just enthralled with all these this madness.
But let me just say, so, at what point did
you decide? You know what I mean? I know you
said you did it during the fortieth anniversary of uh
Return of the Jedi, but like, what made you? I mean,
you were coming. I guess was it the Star Trek
Band that made you decide to go this direction?
Speaker 11 (25:59):
Or was the Star Trek Band had had some openings
in our schedule, like we had been doing a lot,
and we I suddenly had some free time. It was
the main thing, and I'd been wanting to do it
for a long time. And I think part of it
is just that we, you know, we've been playing original
music so much, and I had never really worked on
any parody songs, and I just suddenly thought, why haven't
(26:20):
I worked on any parody songs?
Speaker 3 (26:21):
So I thought I'd give it a try.
Speaker 11 (26:22):
So I wrote the first one was Forced Choke, which
was the Genesis song Invisible Touch, just originally.
Speaker 10 (26:31):
Just playing them to amuse ed, and I ed is
really into Like Ed's a really big Star Wars fan
and he's read all of the all of the Extended
Universe stuff and whatnot.
Speaker 7 (26:42):
And to be fair.
Speaker 10 (26:43):
I also loved Star Wars and Princess Leo was my
hero and you know, whole hullablu. So we all talk
about it and we watched like exactly like you guys.
You guys are totally our people that just sit around,
you know, constantly and pick apart the media that we
love in the same way.
Speaker 3 (27:01):
We had a suggestion for you for July.
Speaker 6 (27:03):
Okay, yes, please July jar Binks. Oh, that's it, done, done,
got its idea?
Speaker 5 (27:17):
Are you ready?
Speaker 6 (27:18):
I can't wait to get Chris. Yes, I am. I
can't wait to get Chris's thoughts on July jar.
Speaker 5 (27:22):
But it's good.
Speaker 6 (27:31):
I don't know. You just you just roll your eyes
at my silly drinking games period.
Speaker 8 (27:34):
So I mean it's it's it's very unsanitary.
Speaker 3 (27:39):
I wonder what thinks Actually, maybe.
Speaker 6 (27:44):
Yeah, we have We're gonna they're gonna appreciate it. It
started with october Fest and snoketober Fest.
Speaker 11 (27:51):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (27:51):
We also did Snokevember because we couldn't get away from
snoke December is actually Darth Smber, so we do have
a Darth drinking January. January was jan Do Donuary for
General jan Do Donna. Uh, February was Boba Fetruary, March
was Imperial March, April was Doctor Afrol for doctor Afra,
(28:13):
and then May was Oh the Millennium Falcon. That's right,
that's great.
Speaker 5 (28:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (28:21):
So this so this guy, he was right here still
on my desk, and then we're in June, June or so,
but July jar binks we're in.
Speaker 3 (28:33):
I think he's done.
Speaker 6 (28:38):
Act. I want to ask this question because you are
clearly Star Wars fans. There's such a great collection in
the background behind you. Give me a quick version of
each of your Star Wars origin story. That's something we
talk a lot about on this show. We all come from,
you know, different backgrounds, different places. I'll start with Savannah, Savannah,
where you know, where did Star Wars start for you?
(29:00):
What was your origin story?
Speaker 10 (29:01):
Okay, so the first uh, this really backwards, but Return
of the Jedi was the was the first film that
I saw when when they brought it back out into theaters.
So so that was that was the first one I
went to go see and I had such I had
(29:25):
such a good time. But I also even watching it
and listening to people complain about how much they didn't like.
Speaker 7 (29:32):
So I'm sitting there in.
Speaker 10 (29:33):
The theater listening to to people complain about how much
they didn't like the changes and.
Speaker 11 (29:39):
So and you decided that you absolutely loved the Ewoks
more than anything I did.
Speaker 10 (29:43):
I did, look all my heart, but I also was
critical enough, even in my youth, to hear that how
people had complained about the changes being made. And this
made me very curious to find out, well, what had
changed and to make it comparison. So imediately went from there.
I left the theater, went to the video store and
(30:04):
and and got the older VHS's so that I could
go home. And so I watched them both in one day.
So this was my this was my desire. I'd be like, Oh,
what were they talking about? That's so interesting? But I
go back, and so then of course I had I watched,
I watched the one I had just seen, and then uh,
and then I started from the beginning. So I basically
(30:26):
watched you know, nine hours of Star Wars that day.
Speaker 5 (30:32):
The nine hours of you know, well, no, that automatically
makes you one of us.
Speaker 10 (30:36):
It was like twelve hours when it was all done.
I think actually I think it was a Saturday, and
I didn't finish.
Speaker 7 (30:41):
I finished one of them like the next day.
Speaker 10 (30:44):
But uh so the point was, over the course of
that weekend, I watched twelve hours of Star Wars, and
I was quite enchanted, and in particular I adored, of course,
Princess Leah. Thought one was cute, thought everything was I
thought I everything was great. But I just I just
was enchanted with just how ballsy she was and how
(31:09):
actually I was previously a really big and because of
irresponsible you know, supervision, I managed to watch the alien.
Speaker 7 (31:19):
Movies starting up, as you do.
Speaker 10 (31:23):
And yeah, and so I was I loved Ripley and
that was like the only thing close to that that
I'd ever seen, you know, that was maybe the only
other character that kind of had that footspa about them,
and and it was it was just it was just
(31:46):
a big deal, and I really, I really really loved it.
Speaker 6 (31:49):
So I think that's amazing. And as somebody who has
a wife and four daughters, I am fully in favor
of people who love strong female characters. So you were
on the right path from the beginning and you can
charging on down it, so that totally works. Patrick. What
about you, what is your Star Wars organ story?
Speaker 11 (32:06):
Well, I first I'm a toy collector, but I first
got into the toys. I think this was way back
when the Kenner toys first came out. I was at
a friend's house and he had the Death Star play
set and I had never seen the movie, you know,
only the first movie was out at that point. But
they had all those cool side characters like the Hammerhead
(32:26):
and you know, the Canteen and Grito and all those guys.
And I loved the little Jawa figure and his favorite
was Snaggle too, So they just like went on adventures,
you know, and it was pretty funny. And then I
saw him Bryce Strikes Back as soon as it came out, and.
Speaker 3 (32:38):
I was just obsessed from that point on.
Speaker 11 (32:41):
So yeah, and then so in the UH, I was
always a fan, but then I sort of got back
into it and maybe the mid nineties or so, and
I went all over town looking for a nice VHS
copy of the original trilogy. You know, it was right
before the special editions came out, so you couldn't find
it anywhere. I was just looking for a nice letterbox
(33:02):
version of it, and I went to like a dozen
local stores before I found one. I even went to
a Blockbuster video and the guy asked me, why would
you want something with the bars on the screen like that.
Speaker 3 (33:15):
You know, back before we had h D at a
video store.
Speaker 6 (33:20):
Dude.
Speaker 10 (33:21):
I like how similar our experiences were because you see
sort of like the picky nerdiness of it, of being
all I want I want the other Like it's not
enough that I saw it.
Speaker 7 (33:33):
I want to see the other version.
Speaker 6 (33:35):
I want to want all of it.
Speaker 5 (33:36):
Yeah, you know, like I want, I.
Speaker 7 (33:38):
Want more information.
Speaker 11 (33:39):
I want I believe ed did see a New Hope
first though, So we've each started with a movie.
Speaker 5 (33:46):
That's pretty funny. That's pretty funny. Well, hey, before we
go to our news segment, I'm going to ask you
guys one more question. Nick and I had found, and
you guys are gonna stick around for the news, which
is gonna be a lot of fun. We do this
sort of around if you watch around the horn or
when it was on, but we give out points, We
just mock it and we just have a lot of
good time. But my question for you is Nick and
(34:07):
I have found in the couple of years we've been
doing this and all the years that we've been doing
podcasting that there's some connection between Star Wars and musicians,
whether it's people we've interviewed and we've felt like when
Greg Grunberg was on the show and he's sitting there
in front of his drum set and a couple of
podcasters as a podcast called the Thank the Maker Podcast,
(34:29):
which is guys from like from a side Yellow Guard
and story of the year or the year right, So
and then we'll just talk to people and we'll find
out there musicians. So what in your opinion or what
do you think is that connection between Star Wars and musicians?
(34:49):
What is it that draws those two together?
Speaker 3 (34:52):
But I mean it has like the best.
Speaker 11 (34:54):
The John Williams theme is like the most identifiable musical.
Speaker 3 (34:58):
Book of anything that I can make. And that's the
first thing you hear, like.
Speaker 11 (35:01):
Before anything starts, before you see a character, you hear
that theme, and I think that that's just people.
Speaker 10 (35:07):
And then that was absolutely before you even finished aftering
the question, my first thought too was John Williams is
the part and the soul and the life's flood of
Star Wars.
Speaker 7 (35:18):
Everybody everybody says that the screenings of.
Speaker 10 (35:21):
Star Wars before before the soundtrack was on it, where
people were like, oh, I'm not so sure. Like that,
really it tells you the excitement where to feel.
Speaker 11 (35:32):
I mean that scene where Luke is just staring off
into the Tatcho wine suns, you know, with that theme
swelling behind him. I really wish they had had a
theme like that for Anakin and Padme and like get
getting better with the montage, without the dialogue, just to.
Speaker 3 (35:47):
Have the just have the theme playing sort of beautiful. No, no,
it was great.
Speaker 7 (35:52):
It was great.
Speaker 11 (35:52):
I'm just saying they could have less dialogue and more music.
It would have worked great.
Speaker 5 (36:01):
Some commentary in there as well.
Speaker 6 (36:04):
And I love was.
Speaker 10 (36:09):
Suggestion for suggested she didn't actually fall in love with
with and the only explanation for what she would fall
in love with because he might swold her on accident
because he was.
Speaker 11 (36:19):
Just so powerful he didn't even realize but he was
doing it.
Speaker 6 (36:23):
And I love and this is the most tangential thing
I can throw into this. I love that your answer
was both John Williams and how it connected because one
of my favorite kind of random, inane bits of trivia
is that John Williams son is the lead singer of
the band Toto, and I think that's.
Speaker 10 (36:40):
Just the best thing in the world. Who did the
soundtrack for Doune.
Speaker 6 (36:44):
The original soundtrack? Yes, the original June soundtrack. Joseph Williams
is the lead singer of the band Toto, and it
just just layers upon layers of starlar and nerdiness and
music and rock and roll.
Speaker 11 (36:56):
So also, who can forget the canteena band. I mean,
those guys, even if you didn't a band, when you
saw those guys playing, you wanted to be in that band, right,
It didn't matter even if they even if their faces
from out, we were into it.
Speaker 5 (37:11):
My son calls them the butt heads to this day
because they're but uh, well, awesome, well cool. It's been
great getting to know where you guys come from musically
and again, so before we take our break, tell people
where they can find your music and where they can
check it all out.
Speaker 11 (37:27):
Yes, uh so the three Pos dot band camp dot com.
We have physical media as well. You mentioned that you
didn't see cassettes anymore. This is not an actual cassette,
but it looks like one.
Speaker 5 (37:41):
I would say, look at that Okay, so that's cool,
that's phenomenal.
Speaker 3 (37:48):
We have We do have a limited edition vinyl as well.
Speaker 6 (37:53):
Oh I have to I'm gonna have to order this.
And I have to say the thing I found you
guys on Facebook, and my Facebook algorithm was doing earning
its paycheck the day that I found you because the
thing that showed up in my feed was that cover
with the pink and the droids and the vacuum cleaner,
and I went, I don't know what this is, but
(38:13):
I love it, and so I absolutely need to order
that vinyl and edit to my collection to be in
my background back here because it's outstanding. So I'm going
to do that.
Speaker 10 (38:23):
That photo on our stove that is a pink tablecloth
with actual action figures and Barbie Barby accessories that I
spray painted. Unpainted. It looks like Imaginary Boys cover.
Speaker 6 (38:39):
There's a target audience for it. I'm the target audience
like Nail, But we want to do a new.
Speaker 3 (38:47):
One with band instruments with the same figures. See if
we get around to that.
Speaker 7 (38:53):
I'm very happy you brought your joy. I'm so glad.
Speaker 10 (38:55):
And it's how weird, how weird to have that joke
and think that that's amusing, giggle about that with your
friends and your basement, and then put it on the
internet and to find anybody else who also would find Yeah.
Speaker 6 (39:08):
Thanks, it's the will of the force. That's what we're
gonna go with. Writing though brought it all right together.
Speaker 5 (39:14):
Absolutely Well, we're gonna take a quick break and when
we come back, we're gonna get to the news of
the week, and the three po is gonna be hanging
out with us. So we'll be back in just a
minute with more in atg Live.
Speaker 1 (39:26):
Well, it's time to go around the galaxy again, and
welcome to the segment where our producer Chelousy clearly the
most powerful beings in the galaxy. So let's this week's
most overhyped star wars news from our website and forces
a panel or gallic life form stin you about it
loudly for points that she gives out however she wants.
(39:52):
This makes no sense to mettle this week's special guests,
and we will also join the kaingas pretending that their
opinions matter. Well else quietly calculate too lived who does.
Speaker 4 (40:03):
And who gets meeting again at the end, the so
called the winner.
Speaker 1 (40:07):
Get sixty seconds of uninterrupted airtime, because that's what the
show needs, more talking, So hold on your motivator and
embrace for events.
Speaker 5 (40:18):
This scene is around the Galaxy?
Speaker 6 (40:20):
Do I have to say it?
Speaker 11 (40:21):
Do I really?
Speaker 2 (40:24):
Roger?
Speaker 5 (40:25):
Roger, Well, welcome to ATG Around the Horn or whatever
we call it. We call it around the Galaxy because
you know, we the show aatgen Beans Around the Galaxy
and Around the Horn, which was a show that we
absolutely loved. And our good friend Clinton yh has been
(40:48):
on the show a number of times, and of course
Kelsey with her experience at ESPN, it all makes sense.
It's all coming together. We're doing here. The points don't
matter until the very end, when the win gets to
talk for sixty seconds about whatever they want to talk about.
So let me turn it over to the inquisitor, our
very own Kelsey Pucket, Kelsey, what's up? You're mutated and
(41:13):
you are muted? You you're muted? Okay, See it's not
just us. It's not just us.
Speaker 4 (41:23):
It's not okay, it's not okay.
Speaker 5 (41:28):
Start point?
Speaker 6 (41:29):
Is that possible?
Speaker 4 (41:32):
Like you pumped me up with like that little intro
video and then like keep me muted. It's like I
want to you know what I did, mute myself.
Speaker 7 (41:41):
I wanted to blame you.
Speaker 5 (41:42):
That my bad.
Speaker 7 (41:43):
I'm sorry, all right, all right.
Speaker 4 (41:47):
But no, I'm going to stick with you, Pete with
our first question, we're going to get into this last week,
but and Or topped the charts at number one on
Nielsen's streaming ratings. With Disney and Lucasfilm looking to pivot
from using its legacy characters in television shows, do you
think that the success will make them rethink this strategy?
Speaker 5 (42:09):
So you're asking if if you think they are going
to go for legacy characters or start making up some
of their own, or going with newer characters or individual
I don't know. I think I think the wise move,
honestly is to continue to go with either sort of
side characters or smaller, smaller characters or background characters, because
(42:31):
it's a lower chance of pissing people off. If you
tell a Luke Skywalker's story, everybody has had their own
sort of mindset. What did Luke do between movies? Where's
Luke going? What do I expect him to do? Well?
If I don't tell the Luke story and you tell
me a story about whoever, I think I think it
(42:51):
gives it a little bit more flexibility and much more
chance of success. And I think that's also why people
fell in love with the side characters and or all right, all.
Speaker 8 (42:59):
Right, what do you think, Chris, what I would love
for Disney to do or Lucas Film to do. And
I want to sound like a broken record when I
say this, but I would love for them to make
animated features from the comic book stories that are out there.
Those are some great stories that well, if you want,
(43:22):
if you want some good straight up Star Wars stories,
if you do, you know, if you'd like a certain
style or whatever, these comic books have it all handled.
Speaker 5 (43:29):
The stories are right there, the storyboards are right there.
They need to do that. That's a cool concept. I
love it.
Speaker 4 (43:38):
Three pos. You guys have any opinions on this.
Speaker 11 (43:42):
I like how they include legacy characters sparingly, Like I mean,
having Luke show up at the end of Bandalorian season
two was just no perfect, you know, Or Darth Vader
in Rogue one. You know, those are great, but they
could There's so many stories they can tell from across
the galaxy.
Speaker 3 (43:58):
I personally liked the animated.
Speaker 11 (44:00):
Visions show and I thought that almost any one of
those shorts could have just been developed into its own story,
continuing story. So yeah, I think at this point they've
filled in a lot of the gaps from the originals,
and it just makes sense to move on with new,
new ideas and new stories.
Speaker 10 (44:16):
The answer is within the question in a sense you said,
if it would the successive and Or cause them to
do something differently about how they handle legacy characters. I
would think that the successive and Or just gives them
a blueprint, which is exactly what I think almost everybody
else said, which is that the answer is balance, which is.
Speaker 7 (44:36):
What was and Or anyway? What was Rogue one? Anyway?
Speaker 10 (44:40):
It was the side story that incorporated some legacy elements,
but mostly the core of it was original characters and
a new story. So I mean, I think that that
will cause them to hopefully keep doing that.
Speaker 4 (45:01):
Got some good knowledge there. What do you think, Nick,
you want to take us home?
Speaker 6 (45:06):
I will try my best, and usually this game is
a lot more fun if one of us has a
weird different opinion. If we can argue, this isn't the
question for that, because here's the reality. If you look
at it by the numbers, nine hundred and thirty one
million minutes for and or season two in streaming. I
don't even know how that completely works. That's a lot
of minutes, four consecutive weeks of setting records for streaming
(45:27):
for this show. Not to mention this tangential connection to
Roads brought Rogue one up to ninth place in the
listing and streaming for movies with one hundred and seventy
nine million minutes. Like take something so tiny and minuscule
and go, hey, let's make a story out of that,
and it goes gangbusters like this, Like, there's so many
(45:48):
other stories out there that you know, we've made books
out of it with the certain point of view, stories
Like let's make some of those into stories or shows
or develop characters. So this is a formula that absolutely
and I think what Pete sat up top is the thing.
If it's a Lukes story, if it's a Han story,
everybody has a preconceived understanding or thought in their head
(46:08):
or their head canon of who Han Solo is, of
who Skywalker is, so that we have expectations. Even if
we're more of the level headed fans like I think
we all are, there's a moment where we go, hmm,
that wasn't what I wanted it to be. I didn't
know who Cassie and Andor was. I didn't know who
JENNERSO was. So this gave me the opportunity to go,
holy crap, it's new. Give it to me. So I
think this is a great, great way to go, and
(46:30):
I hope that they find the opportunity to do more
of these kinds of stories.
Speaker 4 (46:36):
Fair enough, I feel like that was a great way
to send us home on that. So fans have long
complained about George Lucas tinkering with his movies. A screening
by the British Film Institute gave viewers a chance to
see the original Star Wars film as it first appeared,
before any of Lucas's edits. They came away stunned by
(46:58):
how terrible it looks. This there's the question I'm going
to go with Nick, You're on the screen right now?
Was George Lucas? Right?
Speaker 6 (47:11):
So here's the thing, this is a how do you
make this comparison when so many things have changed over
such a long period of time. We didn't have four K,
we didn't have HD, we didn't have all these things
in nineteen seventy seven, before the special editions, before all
of this happened. I have right here on my desk
a treasured USB drive that has the despecialized editions of
(47:35):
the three original movies, and I just keep it on
my desk because if I ever want to watch those,
I can. But even on my MacBook, which is several
years old, it's not going to look as good. We've
a little bit forgotten what it looked like because guess what,
at that time, nothing looked like that, and that's what
made it special. This was a new thing. But guess
what technology changes? The prequels look different, and there's a
(47:56):
reason for that. The stuff we're getting now on the
volume and four K and whatever the next thing is
going to be on a TV that I don't already own.
There's so much stuff there. Yeah, it's gonna look different,
and I don't think we should be surprised about that.
And I do think that the challenges with George Lucas saying, no,
the O four version is his definitive version. Okay, that's great,
(48:18):
he made it. Let him do what he wants, let
him say what he wants.
Speaker 4 (48:22):
Chris, you have any thoughts on this one?
Speaker 8 (48:27):
I have, Like like Nick, I have both a despecialized
version and I have the special edition version.
Speaker 5 (48:31):
I don't watch the despecialized version.
Speaker 8 (48:36):
If it's if it's you know, if this is Lucas's
vision of this is what he he you know, if
visions for Star Wars and wants it to be, and
this is what his final vision is or as close
to final, you know, as it can get.
Speaker 5 (48:49):
I will prefer that. I will defer to that.
Speaker 8 (48:53):
I know people complained about him tinerd within what not,
but I'm like, it's his, he can, he can, he
can do what he wants with it. And if the
creator says this is what it is, this is what
it should be.
Speaker 5 (49:05):
Who am I to complain? Just as I always say,
just give me.
Speaker 4 (49:12):
Fair enough? Any thoughts? Three pos?
Speaker 11 (49:16):
I mean we have this despecialized we do have. Yeah,
I actually always watched the de specialized.
Speaker 7 (49:22):
We usually yeah, I'd say I usually watched the specialist.
Speaker 11 (49:26):
He did a lot of great technical things to make
it look and sound spectacular. But I think working on
a creative project, as someone who does a lot of
recording and layering of sounds and all that kind of thing,
it's it can be difficult when you're in the chair
doing it to know how much is enough, when you
should stop or when you want to keep going.
Speaker 7 (49:45):
So the nice thing.
Speaker 10 (49:46):
About him being in a band is we can make
him stop. Nobody can make it, you know, like nobody
can stop. And he became a special effects man. And
though I think people are unkind and in general about
what do you do between Star Wars and the special editions,
he built wonderful, amazing companies that did visual effects, and
(50:07):
that was his life's blood and what he did, and he's.
Speaker 7 (50:10):
Brilliant at it. He was pretty at it. He pushed
the envelopes in all of those things.
Speaker 10 (50:15):
And so then he went to touch his movies again
as a special effects man and as a as a
as a man who was interested in that, and sometimes.
Speaker 7 (50:23):
He might have I mean, everybody knows.
Speaker 10 (50:27):
That the technology wasn't really there to pull off Jar Jar, right,
but it wouldn't have never, it would never have gotten
there if he hadn't done it, you know what I mean.
Like he was there pushing the envelope, trying to do
something that technology couldn't do yet.
Speaker 7 (50:41):
And that's what he's done his whole career. And that's amazing.
The despecialized look bad because he was trying to do.
Speaker 10 (50:47):
Things that couldn't be done yet, and that's ambitious and amazing.
Speaker 11 (50:51):
And then important things they did do though, like like
adding in the Palpatine we know into Empire strikes Back,
for instance. I mean those of things, the connecting that's
like hither important to have it?
Speaker 10 (51:03):
So I kind of can't decide and I kind of
like to watch both, and it kind of depends on
my moode.
Speaker 6 (51:08):
We have to all agree we didn't we didn't need
Java in the landing Bay in Star Wars, and that
didn't but.
Speaker 7 (51:17):
That was the original vision and he wanted to.
Speaker 11 (51:20):
It pretty much just repeats what we already heard in
the Gritos scene, And yeah, it kind of messes up
the pacing a little bit, but sometimes, you know, it's
still cool to see.
Speaker 10 (51:29):
Sometimes he just wants it's kind of science rather than art.
He wants to see if he can do it, whether
or not, you know, as they say in Jurassic Park, whether.
Speaker 3 (51:39):
Or not he should. That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 11 (51:41):
It's good to have a person there is it telling
you when you have enough and when you should stop.
Speaker 7 (51:47):
But if but if somebody had told him to stop.
Speaker 10 (51:50):
On the other hand, then then he wouldn't might not
have done some of the other great things push.
Speaker 7 (51:53):
The envelope of technology.
Speaker 10 (51:55):
We wouldn't have We wouldn't have had Jurassic Park, for example,
if he if it weren't for lucasfilm, we wouldn't have
had things that we had later that were beautiful because
he he made artistically questionable but technologically important and innovative decisions.
Speaker 5 (52:11):
For sure.
Speaker 4 (52:14):
All right, some fair points there, But like Pete, do
you want to take us home on this subject?
Speaker 5 (52:21):
You know, I like what you said, quoting Malcolm from
from Jurassic Park. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.
Look I think, honestly, the reason the original print of
Star Wars looks like crap is because it's a different
movie at this point, right, It's gone through so many changes.
It is that original vision, it is that original thought,
(52:43):
but it's a different type of movie now. I think
it has a place. I probably wouldn't watch it because
you know, I always remember in my head Hell Raiser
was a great scary, disturbing movie, and then I watched
it again a couple of years ago, and I was like, Wow,
that is awful, and I think and I think Star
Wars in nineteen seventy seven, without a new hope on it,
I think that's still I think that's still where it is.
(53:07):
But it's a different movie, and that you watch it,
you'll watch it for different reasons. I think.
Speaker 11 (53:11):
So it's the movie that made history, right, so sure, yeah,
for cultural reasons. You know that's good enough for it
to be shown again.
Speaker 4 (53:21):
Yep, all right, Well, moving on, Hans Solo returns to
action in a new comics series set to explore a
pivotal missing chapter in his life between the Return of
the Jedi and the Force Awakens. I'm gonna go with Chris.
Are you interested in this character enough to check out
(53:41):
this storyline? Kelsey, you've met me right, well, I mean,
you know occasionally.
Speaker 8 (53:51):
Yeah, yeah, I can't wait this concept or I'm sorry,
like where it's set looks. You know, I'm glad that
they're doing this because that is fordle ground for Star
Wars storytelling, which is like, it's an older Hans Solo,
It's an older Lando Chewy dozen ahs. So you know
that doesn't really count, but you know, this is maybe
I think it's ten maybe fifteen years maybe twenty after
(54:16):
the events of the Return of the Jedi. So Roger,
it's I'm glad that they're doing this a lot more.
This needs to be on a lot more of this
era of Star Wars needs to be fleshed out, and
that will definitely help them going forward, like with the
Starfighter Ara and whatnot. So yes, I'm very excited for
this book. I'll definitely be covering that when it comes
(54:37):
out in September. So yeah, I'm happy for it.
Speaker 4 (54:41):
That's exciting. Nick, You got any thoughts?
Speaker 6 (54:44):
I do, And I'm going to say the most surprising
thing that Chris Ryan's has heard all day today. Because
for Patrick and Savannah, Pete and I are notoriously bad
at comic books, and Chris is a dedicated comic books guy.
We throw a lot of shade. We like to have
fun with it. I am absolutely one hundred percent excited
to read these. I wrote it on my notes right
(55:04):
here for Chris, I will read this in all capital letters.
I am going to read this. It's a Force awakened story,
or it's a Force Awakens adjacent story. Because Caine, you
get the Irvin boys, the people who you know who
had the Falcon win Ray you know, is getting it
from on Karplatt and all that. Yeah, the other thing
I'm excited about, and this kind of ties back to
(55:25):
Potathon last year, even though it didn't work out. This
is a Rodney Barnes story, and I'm excited to hear
what Rodney Barnes is going to do because I did
some research before he was supposed to be a part
of Pytothon and what he worked on and did, and
I'm very excited to dig into these. So, Chris, I'm
going to be hitting up bro axiom ount posts. I'm
going to set up in order. I want the copies,
(55:45):
the physical copies, and I'm going to add them in
my collection. I'm going to read them. And I'm not
a comics guy, but this is a story I am
truly excited to.
Speaker 8 (55:52):
You should read Inquisitors by Rodney. It was really good.
It's really good.
Speaker 6 (55:57):
On your recommendation one hundred percent.
Speaker 5 (55:58):
Will do that Team dot com and.
Speaker 8 (56:01):
I don't have I don't I don't have those in
stock right now, but still go there and get.
Speaker 5 (56:08):
Three order the Han Solo loooks at least yes, use
code off your first order.
Speaker 4 (56:14):
Three pos are you guys comic book fans at all.
Speaker 10 (56:17):
I am, but I haven't read a lot of the
Star Wars comics.
Speaker 7 (56:22):
Honestly.
Speaker 3 (56:23):
I started with the Star Wars comics for Marvel back
in the day.
Speaker 10 (56:25):
Yeah, so so I I definitely would. I definitely would
check it out. I'm kind of interested in that that.
I think, like they said, it's a fertile it's a
fertile space.
Speaker 11 (56:35):
Well, and Han is just an endlessly entertaining character, like
you you know, I mean, I'm wearing my solo shirts
guitar solo.
Speaker 3 (56:44):
Yeah, I mean, I would anything with Han, and it
has got to.
Speaker 10 (56:47):
Be I definitely would like to know more about the
dissolution of the Han solo Princess.
Speaker 11 (56:54):
Leah romance where his wife.
Speaker 7 (56:57):
Shows up, that that whole thing. But yeah, I would,
I would check it out. I care.
Speaker 10 (57:04):
I'm I'm a painter. I care what the art looks like.
So I guess I would also figure out who the illustrator.
Speaker 3 (57:10):
Depends on that too.
Speaker 10 (57:11):
It makes makes a big difference to me. I'm sure
Ed will read it. Ed actually makes a comic, he's
a comic book.
Speaker 11 (57:20):
We will defer to him, and if he tells us
it's good, we'll definitely.
Speaker 10 (57:25):
I still have them before anybody.
Speaker 4 (57:30):
Pete, what about you.
Speaker 5 (57:32):
Oh look, I'm gonna be honest, I'm not gonna read it.
I mean no, I mean, look, it sounds like a
really cool story. But this is where Chris, I'm with you.
There are there are I didn't present this. There are a.
Speaker 4 (57:53):
Lot of really.
Speaker 5 (57:56):
Cool I lost boyds. Uh, there's a lot of cool
story stories in the comics. And I'm with you, Chris.
You know what make some cool animated shows out of them?
And also, I you know, if you think without the
hierarchy of what people will watch and take part and
let's be very realistic here for a minute. I got
to put comics at the bottom because that's a very
(58:17):
niche group. Then you got books. Then you have animated shows,
and those two may even swap depending on what it is.
Then you got your television, and then you got your movies.
So the only way you're going to get a lot
of those really cool and important comics stories back to
in front of people is to make them watchable, you
know what I mean.
Speaker 8 (58:37):
If you want eyes on, if you want to see
more stuff with with Luke and how like his Journey
Goes and Lay and Han and Lando and chewing everyone.
These stories that these Cannon Star Wars may run stories
are superb, and we'll definitely like, you know, like from
reading these comics when it came to Last Jedi, I
(58:59):
wasn't surprise that this was Luke's the way he was
going to be. You know, they really helped to shape
out this, you know, these characters. So yeah, I think
I think doing an animated feature of any off any
of those or all of them would be fantastic.
Speaker 4 (59:13):
I gotta say, just the fact that like our most
like verbose participant and like the dude that like writes
like a billion words online is the one that doesn't
want to read the Star Wars comics, Like, there's just
something wrong mentally here with you. I'm just I'm I'm
(59:35):
just dumbfounded by this. I'm like, hold on, hold on,
you're the one that hates words. Okay, sorry, yeah, that's fair.
All right, Well, I'm just going to keep you on
the screen. You're gonna have to answer this next one,
even though, like apparently you hate Star Wars and words.
(01:00:00):
So during the aforementioned BFI screening, Kathleen Kennedy revealed a
shift in the studio's creative direction. They're going to be
moving away from traditional trilogies in favor of more standalone stories.
Do you think this is a good move for Lucasfilm
and why?
Speaker 5 (01:00:17):
I think it's a great idea because it takes the
pressure off of one movie having to deliver for another.
It also makes sure that we're closing out stories. My
most frustrating thing with anything on streaming, whether it's Star
Wars or I mean, I was so pissed at the
(01:00:37):
House of the Dragon series, which was basically an eight
episode trailer for season three. Nothing came to a close.
So give me a movie that works on its own
from beginning to end, and if it's worthy of a sequel,
give it a sequel. Don't plan for trilogies, work your
way through it, deliver a full story, and do what's
best for the medium. Movies should be. When you walk
(01:01:01):
into a movie theater, you should be satisfied with the
story you saw. So yes, stick with the singles for me.
Thank you, Roger.
Speaker 4 (01:01:08):
I really hate that you had like great points there.
I did not want to like continue rewarding you, but
I had three pos.
Speaker 10 (01:01:21):
I mean, I don't disagree with anything that you said,
but I would expand on that to say, simply, the
main thing is having a good director, producer, writer, combo
team that can.
Speaker 7 (01:01:34):
Helm a movie.
Speaker 10 (01:01:36):
I don't care if they did a trilogy or if
they did a single movie. Whatever you could get the
talent to commit to to finish the whole stories. I
mean that was I mean where the sequel trilogy got
into trouble was that you didn't have one person that
could commit to all three of them to do the
whole thing together.
Speaker 7 (01:01:55):
So for solo.
Speaker 10 (01:01:57):
Too, whatever you can get somebody to commit to. And
if that means that's the safer thing, then is you
get the good talent that can really helmet because you
don't want something done by committee. You really want a
strong central figure. You want it if that's a director,
that's a producer or a combo or what have you. Like,
the creative force behind the movie should put a stamp
(01:02:18):
on the movie. It should look different, it should feel different,
it should be a whole story and whatever you can
get those people to commit to to finish a story.
Speaker 11 (01:02:27):
Do you mean the best shows are are that way
because they have a centrally creative for the project.
Speaker 3 (01:02:34):
Exactly.
Speaker 10 (01:02:35):
I mean that that Mandalorian story is his baby, and he.
Speaker 11 (01:02:38):
Is in it, and you can just picture him playing
with his toys, deciding what's going to.
Speaker 7 (01:02:43):
Happen in the next playing. Yeah, I tell you you
watched one, you know too many times. I did that.
Whole thing like.
Speaker 10 (01:02:53):
That has the stamp of a person, a stamp, single
creative mind. And I think when when Star Wars fails
is when it loses that, and when it succeeds is
when somebody, a person, a creative person is there bling it.
So whatever bite sized it could be as small a
bite sized chunk as it needs to be to make
(01:03:14):
sure that it has that force and doesn't lose it.
Speaker 5 (01:03:16):
I like that. That's cool.
Speaker 4 (01:03:18):
Yeah, Chris, do you have any thoughts on the subject.
Speaker 8 (01:03:21):
Yeah, it's This is an enormous galaxy and one of
the largest. Star Wars has a wide birth of different
story telling styles and things like that, So a single
story within absolutely absolutely.
Speaker 6 (01:03:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:03:41):
I'm a comic fan, so you know there are some
single issues, you know, one shot books and things like that.
You could like these single stories solo is a perfect
example of why single story movies would work for the
Star Wars franchise. Well, you can do that many stories
over that many different mediums yet and not everything has
(01:04:02):
to be a trilogy. You know, it's wide enough, it's
huge enough and well known enough that people will for
the most part, get what's going on to be able
to connect with the characters in the story that they're telling.
Speaker 6 (01:04:17):
What do you think, Nick, So, I also think that
this is a good idea. And I think the biggest
thing for me is there's a lot of talent that
has been connected to Star Wars, certainly in the last five, six,
seven years. When we get announcements of, Oh there's gonna
be a Takaway TD movie, Oh there's going to be
a Ryan Johnson trilogy, which I mean, give it to me,
(01:04:38):
the James Bays movie, Benny often White from Game of Thrones, Like,
there's all these people that have been connected to the
possibility of doing something in Star Wars the way the
entertain you know, we all get these things when they
show up. What we don't remember is that it takes
two and three years to produce them, May them edit them,
get them out there. It's a huge commitment, like what
(01:05:00):
Tony Gilroy has committed to over these last couple of
years with Indoor Seasons one and two is phenomenal, and
there's a reason why. When they originally said, oh, it's
going to be five seasons and each season is going
to be a year leading up to Rogue one, that's
crazy talk, like that's five years of TV, that's ten
or twelve years of production and all that. So when
(01:05:21):
we take trilogies out of the equation, I think it
does a couple of things. One, it opens up the
possibility to have some of these amazing creators involved, which
is going to enrich the stories that Star Wars tells.
The other thing I think it does besides involvement without
tying up long term and being able to go, hey,
Ryan Johnson's got an idea for a fourth you know,
Glass Indion movie, but he can fit that in in
(01:05:43):
between doing this Star Wars thing. Is it also allows
us to get different kinds of stories. We've talked about, visions,
we've talked about, and or which is high politics drama.
You know I talk about every week it's behind me
on my Storm Triper, it's my West Wing star Wars.
It is we have the opportunity to have different creators
bring us different kinds of Star Wars without going, well,
(01:06:05):
we need three crazy silly tycho y TV Star Wars movies.
If he does one tag and Bank thing and we
move on awesome, if we get you know, Ryan Johnson
doing another something that's awesome, it doesn't have to be
tied to well, what are the other two going to be?
So to me, this adds to the ability to get
a bunch of stuff that covers a lot of territory
(01:06:28):
and has the ability, like we said kind of at
the top of this whole news thing, to not be
tied to Luke or Han or Ley or Chewy, but
spread it out because, as we say, it's a big
ass galaxy, there's a lot of Starpers out there.
Speaker 5 (01:06:41):
Yep, for sure.
Speaker 4 (01:06:44):
That was a great point, Nick. But I think as
I'm looking at the final total, I think the three
pos are our winners here around the galaxy. So ye,
have guys have the platform. What do you guys got
going on? You can promote your show.
Speaker 11 (01:07:02):
My goodness, we've played a lot of shows recently.
Speaker 3 (01:07:06):
We're kind of on a break right now, but we have.
Speaker 11 (01:07:08):
Gen Con coming up at the beginning of August, which
is the biggest local convention that we have here in Indianapolis.
It's like the third biggest pop culture convention in the
US after.
Speaker 10 (01:07:17):
San Diego Comic Con and dragon Con, so it's in
the biggest one in the Midwest. So gen Con is
a gaming convention primarily originally started by Wizards of the Coast.
So if anybody's going to be in town for gen Con,
because you know, we will be there, many many, many,
many thousands of people.
Speaker 11 (01:07:35):
Will be here, sort of a record crowd last year
at so we're really excited.
Speaker 10 (01:07:39):
About this, hope with anybody who's going to be there,
check out our website.
Speaker 11 (01:07:43):
And then later in the year we also have starbas India,
which is our local Star Trek convention.
Speaker 3 (01:07:48):
Which we're playing.
Speaker 7 (01:07:51):
Like Star Wars music, and.
Speaker 11 (01:07:53):
We're also doing a Star Wars Versus Star Trek show September.
Speaker 10 (01:07:58):
Well, yeah, and we we played with a cling On
Pop Warrior, uh Star.
Speaker 3 (01:08:03):
Wars versus Top Warrior actually guested on New So her.
Speaker 7 (01:08:06):
New album she did, she did Love Shack, she.
Speaker 3 (01:08:10):
Did our party. It's called Back and.
Speaker 7 (01:08:16):
Fantastic of you.
Speaker 10 (01:08:17):
Just a shout out to my friend Jen Boom, who
is the kling On pop Warrior.
Speaker 7 (01:08:21):
She does she does well.
Speaker 10 (01:08:24):
She just straight translations of pop songs into clean On.
She's a linguist, so she uh she has like the
official uh she has official translations. So on the record
at Disney, for example, the song from Frozen, she has
the official Klingon language translation and so on and so forth.
(01:08:44):
So that is what she does. And we did a
Battle of the Bands with her where we bought. We
fought Lightsaber against Battliss and and and played played back
and forth. So that's something we did recently.
Speaker 7 (01:08:57):
We're on band.
Speaker 3 (01:08:58):
Camp three po three pos at bandcamp dot com. Yeah,
and we're on all of the media's social media's.
Speaker 7 (01:09:05):
All the things to say Hi. Yeah, you just do
it for the love and for the.
Speaker 4 (01:09:10):
Fun, and.
Speaker 5 (01:09:12):
Yeah, that's what it's all about. That's great. Well, I'm
really glad to yes, thank you so much. And I
you know, I'm really glad that that Nick discovered you.
Like I said, I've been listening to you on on
Spotify and I'm really excited. And so it's so you'll
get your point zero zero three cents from me, which
is very true. But now you know, now that i'm
(01:09:35):
the band camp stuff, I'm gonna have to I'll order
something physical for you guys. And if you're watching or listening.
You should do it too. Go check out the three
posh and you just heard a taste of it. But
you'll also be able to find links in the description below,
whether you're listening in the podcast next week or you're
checking this out on the replay. So thank you so much.
So speaking of next week, we are up in the air.
(01:09:57):
So whether or we're gonna do a show next week,
Nick is traveling and I'm not sure what we're going
to do. I haven't talked to Kelsey and Chris yet,
so we'll figure that out. We may or maybe back
they or may not be back next week, but we'll
be certainly back the week after for uh July jar Binks,
I can't wait. It's brilliant.
Speaker 4 (01:10:19):
Love. We decided on that.
Speaker 6 (01:10:20):
Yeah, it's happening, and if and if you want and
if you want, Pete. I don't know what y'all are
going to do next week. I mean, obviously I'm gone
and you can't handle things without me, so good luck
figure it out. But I do know that the week
after is Thursday, July the third, it's right before Independence Day, uh,
and we are scheduled to have my good friend Alexis Sterling,
(01:10:43):
who is the wife of Mariy Sterling Marley. Mariy has
been on with us several times. If you have ever
watched the TV show Homeland, Matt Mary played Max in Homeland, Max,
not Max. Mary's wife. Alexis went to high school with
my wife here in Alabama. They both live out in
LA She is an actress as herself, but she is
a huge Star Wars fan, and she and I have
(01:11:06):
kind of been playing phone tag for a long time
trying to get her on the show, and we were
talking a couple of weeks ago and she's like, actually,
I'm kind of available in July. So we're excited to
welcome on July third, Alexis Sterling is going to join us,
and whatever y'all do next week, it'll be awesome. Probably
better because I'm not here messing things up.
Speaker 5 (01:11:23):
No, it's it's uh yeah, we'll figure that, hold it
out and uh but no, that'll be that'll be great. So, Chris,
what anything new coming in in the Broxi map post?
A lot of comics, do comics?
Speaker 8 (01:11:39):
I have some hard covers that I got in uh uh,
some some more backstock and things like that. So yeah, yeah,
well you know we've got those those those those set
runs of comics. We have these new mystery packs that
are five random issues of you know of different years
of Star Wars storytelling into one pack for fourteen ninety
(01:12:00):
nine on say, right now for eleven ninety nine.
Speaker 5 (01:12:02):
Nice, go check that out. Nick. We won't see you
next week, but may of course be with you always.
Speaker 12 (01:12:12):
Just one more round friend sent a homeward bound friend.
Don't forget me in your dreams.
Speaker 6 (01:12:23):
Just one more song friend.
Speaker 12 (01:12:26):
The night so long, friend, the nights get shorter.
Speaker 7 (01:12:31):
It seems.
Speaker 4 (01:12:35):
Just one more rime friend.
Speaker 2 (01:12:38):
Yes it's a crime friend, but you know time friend,
time can fly.
Speaker 12 (01:12:47):
So it's good night friend, goodnight, but not goodbye.
Speaker 6 (01:13:00):
Spring present, prest strong Psments the post Nat
