Speaker 1 (00:00):
Creativity is an addiction unplugged because we will always say
yes to creativity, totally uncut because we all make mistakes.
So let's turn it into a tool. This is arrow unplugged.
I am a poet, one that just happens to write
in a forest. My forest is the Rainbow Forest right
here in South Charlotte, North Carolina. When I enter this
forest or any other collection of trees, I never know

(00:21):
what I'm going to write about. These are my words.
These are the lyrics from Rainbow Forest, chapter number three
hundred ninety five, October twenty eight, twenty twenty three. So
much is on my mind. The majority of it is
connected to the living things inside this forest in South Charlotte,
North Carolina. First thing this morning, I was greeted by

(00:41):
a six point whitetail buck just strolling along. His glance
at me was like good morning. I would see that
very buck again about ninety minutes later, outside my recording
studio window, his look the same good morning. Here's where
my heart began to twist this forest. This six point
buck an amazing dot on the map to receive so

(01:04):
many gifts from Mother Nature. But what if this were
Israel Gaza or Ukraine. Would this six point buck be
so calm and loving toward the human being? The world
will never know what's happening to the wild animals, mainly
because war doesn't seem to be about respecting all living things.
This moment, a blessed visit by a six point white buck,

(01:25):
a reminder, a healer, Solitude and confusion. I'm Eryl. These
aren't my words. These are the lyrics from Rainbow Forest.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
