Speaker 1 (00:00):
Creativity is an addiction unplugged because we will always say
yes to creativity, totally uncut because we all make mistakes.
So let's turn it into a tool. This is arrow unplugged.
I am a poet, one that just happens to write
in a forest. My forest is the Rainbow Forest right
here in South Charlotte, North Carolina. When I enter this
forest or any other collection of trees, I never know
(00:20):
what I'm going to write about. These aren't my words.
These are the lyrics from Rainbow Forest, chapter number three
hundred ninety seven. November eleventh, twenty twenty three. A very damp,
cold morning has greeted us in this forest, this new sun.
It's as if Mother Nature needs the slow drizzle to
help put weight on the dried leaves that refuse to
(00:42):
leave the trees. They're stuck. They won't move. Even the
late summer heat wave that we just had last week,
the high temperatures didn't do anything to the leaves. By
the thousands, the sky is still painted with bright reds.
Then again, I'm human. We always want things right now,
as if to say, hey, fall is finally here. Clear
(01:04):
the trees so I can rake the leaves. I can
do something to the forest floor and unclug my gutters,
and they hidden away portions of the roof, which hides
leaves in places that could actually lead to wood rot.
Just another fall day in Carolina, always peaceful and blessed
with leaves that tend to toy with our imaginations. Even today,
(01:25):
as we start to grow into a month that'll give
us spring, I can still see the fall leaves from
last year. I always want to know what it is
that they're clinging to that keeps them in that position,
and are they missing out on the next chapter of
their journey by staying stuck to that tree. I love
(01:46):
it when they fall to the floor, and the reason
why is because it can serve as warmth for the
squirrels or any other animal that needs it. It also
feeds the floor. It gives those trees nutrients that they
need to keep being green. Why do leaves stay stuck
to the tree? Now, let's turn it around. Why do
(02:06):
you stay stuck during your seasons that have passed? Something
new is right here in front of you, but everything
that you're doing is still stuck back there. What's keeping
you there when you could be replenishing the soil at
which you walk upon. I'm a daily writer. I'm also
a d fragger, a vocal d fragger, where you go
(02:29):
in and you ask the questions and you question the answers.
Learning how to put yourself in forward motion as well
as emotion will help you on stick from the roots
of that tree. I'm Eryl. These aren't my words, these
are the lyrics from Rainbow Forest.
