Dayna Isom Johnson
This year, holiday shoppers are embracing creativity and self-expression more than ever before, creating holiday moments that feel truly their own and choosing gifts that are anything but cookie-cutter. Backed by real-time marketplace insights, Etsy can share the holiday styles rising to the forefront this season. Etsy Trend Expert Dayna Isom Johnson can speak to the themes, colors and designs resonating most with shoppers right now.And as the holidays get even closer, Dayna can also share helpful last-minute gifting tips – from selecting items that ship quickly without sacrificing personality to working with a seller for a personalized piece that says “I see you” – spotlighting unique finds from small businesses across the marketplace that still make loved ones feel special, even when it’s down to the wire.In addition, based on styles gaining momentum across its marketplace, Etsy introduces the 2026 Color of the Year and first-ever Texture of the Year. (Hint: It’s Patina Blue and Washed Linen!) As searches for “blue copper” climb more than 3x, patina blue -- inspired by aged copper and sun-worn surfaces – celebrates the beauty of materials that wear in, not out. Meanwhile, linen clothing searches surging more than 1200% echoes shoppers’ shift toward easy, natural materials that feel airy, tactile, and comfortably worn. Think texture-forward neutrals, serene palettes, and that subtly rumpled look.Dayna Isom Johnson is Etsy’s Trend Expert, helping shoppers discover fresh ideas and standout items from Etsy’s community of more than 5 million sellers. She appears regularly on national TV, is a go-to source for lifestyle publications, and has served as a judge on NBC’s Emmy-nominated series Making It with Amy Poehler and co-host of YouTube’s Instant Influencer.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Since twenty sixteen, we've had this great opportunity to share
conversations with those that have been featured on NBC's The Voice.
But where can we get them all in one place?
Very easy? Ero dot net a r r oe dot net.
It's under that voice. Enjoy the exploration. Hell Lo and
good morning. How are you doing, Hey.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Eran doing so well?

Speaker 1 (00:22):
How are you doing very very well? I'm very excited
to share a conversation with you because you are my barometer.
Every year you give me all these great Etsy ideas
and I swear that it gives me the opportunity to
step out there in the real world and find out
where people are. And I believe it starts at Etsy.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Well, thank you so much for that. I think so too,
because look, we are really the home to creativity and
the item that you need for everyone on your list
who's going to make them feel like you see me,
you got this just for me.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
See that's what I love about where we're growing as
gift sharers right now, not a giver. What we like
to do is we like to share the experience. And
when going on to Etsy, you're going you know what
they were just talking about this, See how that relationship builds.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
Absolutely absolutely, so when it comes to decorating, because right
now we are in the triple crown of the holiday season,
it's never too late to add decorations to your celebration,
is it.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
Oh, it's never too late. I'm talking to the last minute.
By the time you're serving your dinner, you can still
add some little bobbles on that table to make people
feel special.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
Now are people trying to you know, kind of like
not put it so many things in there to make
it look crowded? What is the way that Etsy's saying, Okay,
try this this year because last year was too much
for those selfies.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Well, you know what. One of the top trends this
holiday season is titled supper Club, and it is about
creating anner tablescape experience that looks as yummy as the
food that you are serving. So this is really about
going all in. This is about adding those personalized table

(02:12):
place settings, adding those wine charms, getting playful with all
of the the core that's coming in, make those candles
a little funky, don't keep them as traditional. So this
is the year actually to pilot on and allow your
personality to really shine through and not be afraid to

(02:33):
add the bobbles.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
You know you are spot on when it comes to that,
because we just got out of friends Giving, and the
thing about it is, never in my life have I
heard so many people participate with friends giving and they're
gonna be doing it for the same thing when it
comes to Christmas and the New Year.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Yes, exactly. And again it's really leveling it up. It's
not just creating that cookie cutter. People are stepping away
from the cookie cutter and instead stepping into the creative
and stepping into my own personal style and really again
making your guests feel like you took the extra effort.
You want them to feel special, You want them to

(03:09):
feel like I did this just for you.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
Okay, So now when you say take it personal, that
means that we've got to put the right scent in
the atmosphere when people come knocking on the door. Is
Etsy a great place to come and get different sense?

Speaker 2 (03:23):
Oh for sure, whether those sins are through a candle,
an infuser of really any and everything that you want
to create that environment because to your point, one of
the top tips for entertaining is you want to set
that environment from the moment your guest step in and

(03:48):
scent is absolutely one of those things that you want
to capture.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
Please do not move. There's more with dana Is sum
Johnson coming up next. We're taking all things Etsy right
now the place to be for any season. Dana Is
sum Johnson is back. See. I'm one of those people
that really gets off on the smell of an ionizer
because it smells like mountain air. But not everybody really
buys into that. So my wife is always going, no,

(04:14):
we need to try this if everybody's coming over. But
I want my mountain air. So I turned into a
little baby.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
Sometimes, you know what you gotta lead with what you love.

Speaker 4 (04:25):
Maybe in one room you can have that stint and
in the other room your wife can have like one
of the crackling candles that smells like Steeter or smells
like peppermint.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
You know, there's some space for both of you to
allow your personal style to shine.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
One of the things that I depend on Etsy every
year for is the white Elephant gift I've gotten, and
so that's exactly where I go every year.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
Yes, you've told me this before, that's right.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
There's such a wide varie of unique you're not going
to find this at a box store. It is one
hundred percent unique.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
Yes, yes, And I think that's again one of the
top reasons that people come to us, especially right now,
because they're stepping away from the cookie cutter.

Speaker 5 (05:18):
They only want the item that is unique, that's meaningful,
and again that they feel good about the purchase because
they're purchasing something from a small business, they know exactly
where that dollar is going.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
One of the things that I'm taking note of when
it comes to American businesses, and that is is they're
kind of relaxing a bit when it comes to wearing
beautiful Christmas clothing or even Hanukkah clothing during the holiday season.
You don't have to dress up in the normal attire.
They're allowing you to dress down at see people, that's
where the ugly sweaters are.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
Oh my gosh, yes, yes it is. There is such
an incredible amount of inventory not only for ugly sweaters,
but also your accessories. So let's say you want to
go over the top with the headband, or let's say
you want to have, you know, sleigh bells in your hair.
One of the major trends that we called out this

(06:12):
holiday season is called nutcracker core and that's where you're
seeing loads of influences from not only the nut images
of the nutcracker itself, but also velvet ribbons. So how
can you incorporate maybe some themes of nutcrackers into your
hair decor, into jewelry, into an ugly Christmas sweater? The

(06:33):
opportunities are endless.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
Isn't Etsy also proving to the rest of the world
that Christmas does not always have to be green and red.
That you're saying, no, try this this year, take a
chance put some color inside that that celebration of family
and spirit.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
Absolutely so not only can you pile on the color
with many different varieties of you know, not just your
traditional green and red, but also adding in those those
jewel tones again reminiscent of the Nutcracker and that actual performance.
But also one of the trends that stood out this

(07:09):
year was titled goth miss and this is going the
complete opposite route. This is bringing in blacks and deep
greens and also themes of celestial.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
I can totally see that happening because at movie theaters
this year, I mean for the trend for the past
couple of years has been to have a little, you know,
a few scary movies in there during the holiday season,
why not do a goth Christmas and really invite everybody
to the party.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
Exactly exactly and again not being afraid to try something different,
not being afraid to again. If this is your style aesthetic,
allow your personality to fly freely.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
Wow, Where can people go to find out more about you?
Because ten minutes with you is never enough time.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
Well, you can always follow me on my Instagram. It's
just my name Daniel Issam Johnson and I am sharing
all kinds of trends and fun things and arrow. We
didn't even get to talk about our twenty twenty six
color of the Year that we just announced, which is
Patina blue.

Speaker 1 (08:11):
Now what does that look like? I'm not familiar.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
Okay, So Patina blue is the is our newest color
that we just announced. And again, this color is really
about being lived in, having a calm color. It's got
influences of brushed copper in it, so it's allowing us
to really have an exhale moment, a moment of calmness.

(08:36):
And then, for the first time ever, we paired this
with announcing a texture of the year, which is washed linen.
And again it's about feeling lived in, being comfortable and
really taking a step back and enjoying your space and
not feeling too fussy about it and allowing it to
be effortless without doing too much.

Speaker 1 (08:58):
This is why I come to you, and I don't
go to a Alexa or Siri, because you're the one
that's going to sit there and talk about the emotion
and AI technology has no clue what we're talking about.

Speaker 2 (09:10):
Well, I appreciate it. Thank you for letting me be
your personal chat GPT.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
Will you be brilliant today?

Speaker 2 (09:16):
Okay, thank you, Happy holidays, See same to you.
