Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, this is Andre calling for Arrow.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Andre. How are you doing today?

Speaker 1 (00:04):
I am good. I'm so sorry I'm calling late here.
I crossed into Central time and I thought it was
eleven my time, So I'm super sorry about that.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
You would think in this day and age, we would
just get rid of that stuff, because it just seems
to be a pain when you know, with the East
Coast versus West Coast versus wherever else we're traveling these days.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
Oh my gosh, and my Google calendar doesn't for whatever reason,
my Google calendar stays in East Coast times, So I'm like,
all screwed up.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
That's where the beast is. It's in a Google calendar.
We're always in trouble because of that. Exactly How did
you get involved in a project like this? Because I've
been in radio for forty six years, and the thing
about it is is that I've always been associated with
music being a part of what people are doing with
their livelihoods away from a radio speaker, but yet when

(00:50):
they go into a nightclub or they do something at home,
it's always got to include the right music and the
right alcohol.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Yeah. Absolutely, I'm there's no better pairing than music and
booze right, And I got into this by I was
actually working on other cocktail books and realizing that an
A side and B side of an LP was about
the perfect time to enjoy a delicious beverage.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
And what did you find in doing that? Because you're
so right, But I mean, did people say, well, let
me give you my idea or did you have to
do some serious digging?

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Yeah? I do some serious digging for all of these.
I do a deep dive into you know, when the
album was produced, who you know, what people like to drink?
And then of course I can't pass up a good
pun if it worked for the song.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Now has it changed in any way? Because I grew
up in the nineteen seventies and when we put on
Aerosmith Toys in the attic, we were doing some serious
Montana cheap beer.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
Yes, Montana cheap beer. You know Boon's Farm. We all
have it. We all had a great start, right, yes, yes,
delicious stuff. Yeah, things have changed, and not know, it
just depends on how elevated you want your experience to be.
In this particular book, there's a few spots where you know,
I suggest just have a nice shot with it. Yeah,

(02:09):
And there's nothing wrong with the boiler maker. But if
you do want to make your yelf something you know,
a little more complex, a little more elevated, that's in
there for you too. Well.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
I find this very fascinating because I am a what
I call a silent wolf. I will sit there inside
someone else's man cave and study what they're doing when
there's reggae music on, or there's something that's a little
bit country but it is rock and roll, and I'll
see exactly how it changes. They're they're basically their thirst
level and what what they're choosing to do. They usually
don't go heavy until until the music is a little

(02:38):
bit more RAPPI do you did you find anything like that?

Speaker 1 (02:41):
Yeah, it's absolutely true. And actually in all the all
theys books in this serials in this country as well.
I do sort of set it up in terms of mood,
and I usually start the books out with like the
peppier stuff and then it goes into a little bit slower.
It's a definitely tempo absolutely. You know, if you are
a bar owner, I used to own a a bar
and restaurant back in the day, tempo or even you know,

(03:03):
this is true of retail. They know that tempo changes
people's consumption levels, so you can start out with something,
you know, I recommend maybe people start out with something
a little slower and then get a little more up
tempo as the evening goes along.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
Wow, well you're speaking my street when it comes to that,
because I'm a nightclub DJ, and the thing is is
all right, I was yelled at so many times, do
not play any slow songs you're stealing from my bar.
Make them thirsty, boy, make them thirsty.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
It's true, right, it's very weird like human nature, where
you know, sort of propelling people into a bit of
you know, into fun or even a bit of a frenzy,
right to get those beep per minutes up. And it
really is true. I think people's consumption, you know, works
on speed, you know, whether you're enjoying. And that's why
I love a book like this, where you know you

(03:52):
have something like you know, Johnny Cash, which is perfect
for sitting next to a fire and watching that ice
cube disappear or something a little cuppier Shania Twain, Right,
it's time to go out?

Speaker 2 (04:02):
Yeah yeah, yeah, But how do you handle a song
like Coal Miner's Daughter from Loretta Lynn, because I mean
that's that's listed here, and I'm thinking what would I
mix with that? I would probably have to go with
something that that would be kind of like a like
a chance like maybe some kool aid tainted with some
maybe some THHC, not alcohol, but THC, you know, infuse alcohol,

(04:22):
you know, liquor, right, you.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Know, for somebody like Loretta Lynn. You know, I'm thinking,
we're doing you know, go with the theme. You do
what you're doing there, Kentucky.

Speaker 3 (04:33):
Uh, you know, ideas and you know, nothing, there's no
wrong answer to a lot of these because people will
be like, oh, you know, I mean, I mean the
book to be definitely you know, inspiration but literal letter
of Lynn.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
I do a little moonshine, of course, and then you know,
she was called the van you know, she was called
the Van Eeler Rose, and there's certainly a famous song
of hers, and so a little Rose Liqueur, which is
available widely across the United States is pretty pretty cool stuff.
And then I also do a really fun version of
talking about getting that tempo up. I do a fun

(05:09):
version of basically an espresso martini but with.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Firma really really yeah, you know, I think I jumped
the gun on that THHC because I think I should
have attached that to Willie Nelson's Stardust.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
Exactly.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
Please do not move. There's more with Andrey Darlington coming
up next. The name of the book Booze and Vinyl Country. Yeah,
let's get back with andre Darlington. Wouldn't you say though
that people you know, you know that, like like Morgan
Wallin have kind of reintroduced people to go a little
bit chance taking and not necessarily settle in on the

(05:47):
local breweries or anything like that, to you know, to
take a chance on something that's a little bit deeper
and longer lasting.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
Yeah. I love Morgan Wallan and again in this book,
I I hear things with Mood and Morgan Walla and
I picked on for Halloween so perfect for right now,
mainly because the album is so dang long. So I thought, oh,
if you're having a Halloween party, the album super upbeat
and fun and keeps a party going. Or if you're
sitting you know, by the front door waiting for kids

(06:16):
to show up trick or treating, this one is great
for that, Like you know, three hours, two or three
hours period that you're you're sitting there. I do a
fun one. I actually make some Campari dust. Campari is
so popular in negronies these days, and I have a
method of drying it out which is super cool. And
you can make basically crystallized campari, which you know, really

(06:37):
impresses your friends or impresses yourself. You know, once you
make it, you just put it in a jarn and
keep it. So I do a fun kind of I
do that with a longer style beer and and it's
absolutely delicious. I call that one cloud of dust. I
think there's a He's Got a breakup song and everything
I love where he talks about this cloud of dust.
So I make a Campari dust.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
Well, okay, now I have become and it's not because
I'm a Swiftie, but I have become really addicted to
this new album that she's done, The Life of a Showgirl,
and I need something that's gonna mix with it well,
because I'm very impressed with this as well as swag
from Beaver. So the thing is is that there's got
to be something here that's going to bring these two
forms of music together inside one very chilled glass of something.

Speaker 1 (07:21):
Yeah. So you know, Taylor Swift she started out in
country and you know, and so I do have her
version of Fearless in here from twenty twenty one. It's
a great album. And this one's really fun and I
had a good, a good time with this one. I
made a drink called Dance in a Storm, you know,
and from the popular song, and I use the most

(07:43):
popular hard hard seltzer, which is the flavor black cherry.
For whatever reason, the flavor black cherry is the flavor
that's you know, to talk brands, that's the you know,
what made white Claw famous. And I add dark rum
for it. I always joke like, wait until the kids
discover that heart selter is just alcohol and helter water together.

(08:06):
But you can actually add a little more to up
the ante with a dark rum and a cherry on it.
That's really fun. I also have a drink I really
love called Rain in your Breadroom, which uses elderflower liqueur,
which many people know and was you know, slightly overused
perhaps in the two thousands, but it's really great with tequila.

(08:26):
I find the elder flowers usually used with vodka, gin
or something, and it's delicious with tequila. And because it
kind of does and vegetal flavors but makes it floral.
It's just perfect for tailor swift.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
I got to openly admit to you that I did
Absinth with with kid Rock, and when you would pop
on some kid rock and I would bring out the
sugar cubes and boy, oh, I was twirking with a
damn refrigerator.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
Dude, Oh my god, awesome. So I do. I love Absence.
That's a great story. That's like lifetime achievement. I think
I do have fun one for Garth Brooks. We all
know the friends in low places. Yeah, and I do
a white whiskey kind of fun cocktail for that, with

(09:13):
a little bit of an absent rinse. So it's a
it's a black tie affair, but it's a black tie
affair with kild Rock.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
Well with with Cowboy Carter. We've got to have something
with sweet Tea because my my southern girl Beyonce, come
on now, she's got to have some of that Southern tea.

Speaker 1 (09:31):
Such a great album. Yeah, she's got some some tea.
I do a fun Oh I was I was thinking
the Carter family there for a second.

Speaker 2 (09:41):
Yeah, Jenny Cash, Yeah, yeah yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
Yeah, So you know, Cowboy Carter, I do I have
a good time. I have a fun time with the
red cup kiss the solo cups, Yes, where I do
a bourbon and pineapple and ipa sal beer. That's just amazing.
And then there's a shotgun rider for her too, which
is I put a little sparkling wine and shamboard because beyondes,
you know, she's fancy. Wow.

Speaker 2 (10:07):
Where can people go to find out what you are
up to? Andrea? Because I love where you are and
where you're taking us, and and my god, there should
be a TV show instead of calling it The Bear,
let's call it the Mixed Drink with Andrea.

Speaker 1 (10:20):
I love that story. Drinks and Andre. There wasn't already
a Dinner with Andres Dinner Drinks with Andre. I'm Andre
Darlington dot com and Andrey Darlington at all Things social Media.
If you head out there, I can. I'll send you
a you know, once a month newsletter with the recipe,
ideas and whatnot. And the book is available wherever books
are sold.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
Dude, you got to come back to this show anytime
in the future, because you are a party in a
box and I do mean that, and that box is
like wine, and I need to put you in a glass.

Speaker 1 (10:46):
I love it. Man, anytime, let's do some absence.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
Oh my god, will you'd be brilliant today?

Speaker 1 (10:53):
Okay, all right, thank you so much
