Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning. How are you doing today?

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Great? How you doing?

Speaker 1 (00:03):
Absolutely fantastic and very excited to share a conversation with
you because you get it. You understand the importance of
creating a conversation, and you prove it every single time
on every episode.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Thanks so much. My gosh, that's so nice.

Speaker 3 (00:15):
Well, I do like talking to people, erro, so you know,
I guess I'm in the right.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Line of work.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
So is that because you love listening to people.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
I do love listening to people.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
Yeah, well, I think that's a part of having a conversation,
don't you.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
Well, sometimes people will just go on a tangent and
just keep talking about whatever, whatever, and You're going, how
did we even get on this subject? Oh my god.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
Well, I do have those moments of ADHD where I'm like, wait,
I'm trying to follow the thread.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
How did we get on this subject? But for the
most part, I think that you know, you gotta listen,
you gotta like be able to talk.

Speaker 3 (00:52):
And I don't know, I just I find people fascinating,
sort of like endlessly fascinating, And that was part of
the reason why I wanted to do a late night
talk show to begin with.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
Back in I guess.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
Twenty eighteen when I first sold, you know, my first
late night talk show to eat.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
And then wanted to just continue to do it.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
And I feel so lucky to have this show Busy
this week on QVC Plus.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
For you to have this show, I mean, how do
you show prep? Because I'm a show prep pig. I've
got to know everything about the person when when I
step into that game.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
Oh yeah, well, I mean there's a couple different things
with some people on this show. In particular, I pretty
much have consumed a lot of their media, or I've
watched a lot of their shows, or I am already
a fan. But I definitely try to like do the

(01:47):
research and read, you know, articles that have been written,
check out their social media, make sure that I'm like,
you know, aware of what their current project.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
Is that's promoting. You know. You hope that you.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
Get the advanced copies of the movie or of a
TV show, you know, but sometimes that doesn't come through,
and then you kind of have.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
To wing it. You know.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
I can still relate with that because there are times
when it's like, Okay, I'm going to rely on the
trailer on this one, and I hope to God that
trailer has everything I.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Need one hundred percent.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
I know, I know, but you know what, it's fun
and also, like I think there's something to that too,
Like it's kind of great to sort of just ask
the person what it is that they want to tell
you about, you know, as opposed.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
To coming in with your own, you know, ideas of
what they should be talking about. Because sometimes it's just
vastly different.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Don't you love it though, when you're sitting down with
a conversation, like even with Joel Edgerton, and they bring
up something that you're going, oh my god, how did
we get to this little area? But man, let's jump
out it and have some more fun with it.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Yeah, for sure. Wait, why what did you talk to
Joel Edgerton about?

Speaker 1 (02:52):
Oh my god? Well, first of all, just the fact that,
you know, how do you take your personal life and
become acting in it? In other words, they're so he's
so real on that screen that I it's like, you're
not an actor, you're a real person just playing the
role of an actor, and and you're just so genuine.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
Well that's like that's the hope that all actors have, right,
like that they're being very real and genuine and grounded.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
But you know, though, even with actors, there are times
that they speak out of tune, and when you're sitting
there listening to that, you're going, you're reading your lines.
I can feel it.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Yeah, no, for sure, I know. No, he's very special.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
I like Joel a lot.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
Yeah. I love the glass of wine that you include.
I mean that you have become there's I watched an
episode and you were you were sipping on wine, and
and it's a what that wine glass is a part
of your your your whole entire life.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
Is it. I don't know if that's true.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
Necessarily we do, I'm busy, Uh this week. We do
like to ask our guests if there's a little late
night snack that they like and a late night drink
that they're into. Yeah, and so I usually just, uh,
I usually partake in whatever our guest is, uh says
that they would like to drink. Sometimes it's like a

(04:05):
diet coke, or sometimes it's a martini. We've had a
martini before. But yeah, we just sort of you know,
and the snacks very as well. I just filmed with
Carrie Preston, who's on Elsbeth on Cubs, which I love
and Carrie Preston's just such a genius actor and has
been in so many iconic things her entire career, and

(04:27):
she her favorite late night snack is goldfish and a beer.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
So that was that was what?

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (04:35):
That was what we had, goldfish and a beer.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
And I'm not a beer drinker, but I was like, Okay,
Carrie Preston, I'm going to see what this is. I'm
going to see what your late night snack is. Like.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
Please do not move. There's more with Busy Phillips coming
up next. Hey, thanks for coming back to my conversation
with Busy Phillips. I can't wait until somebody brings on
that new sprite that has iced tea in it, and
it's like, it's like, what have you had it yet?

Speaker 3 (04:58):
No?

Speaker 2 (04:58):
I didn't even know it exists.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
Yeah, it's called Sprite plus Tea and it's iced tea
and sprite mixed together.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
So it's like sparkling iced tea.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
Yep, yep, yep.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
I don't know. I don't know about this.

Speaker 3 (05:09):
I don't know. I don't know if we're going to
get anyone who says that's the favor.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
I gotta be honest, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
Now, what kind of rules do you have to play
by on on late night television, because I mean, I
mean in radio, once it's past nine o'clock, then then
we can get away with a lot more.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
Oh yeah, well.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
I mean I think everything's different, right because streaming services
don't abide by the same rules as anything.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
Ever, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
But QBC Plus is its own streaming service that's free.
And you know, we don't we're not really They don't
really tell us what we can and can't do. But
we generally speaking try not to swear too much. That's
probably the biggest the biggest thing I try to stick to.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
Occasionally it'll just fly out.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
If someone says something really outrageous, but yeah, that's about
That's about it.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
I love the set. It's very happy, it's very warm.
It's got a good vibe to it. To me, it's
like one of the invisible stars on the show, because
you find yourself looking at everything around you.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
Well, we wanted it to feel sort of a little
bit like what my own home has felt like. And
you know, have a lot of collar and a lot
of art on the walls.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
And books and things and so yeah, and.

Speaker 3 (06:24):
A lot of it is actually shoppable on QVC, which
is great, or you know, came from QVC a lot
of like the throw pillows and little accent pieces.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
But yeah, we just wanted to make it like a.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
Cozy, chill vibe so that our guests would feel very
comfortable and like they were at home.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
Well, see that goes back to all the way back
to the beginning where I say that you feel so
comfortable in front of that camera, because I mean, when
you're sitting on that sofa having a conversation, you're not
straight back to anything like that. You're you, and that
as a viewer, I'm sitting here going, oh, I'm just
I've been invited into her house. Thanks for inviting me over.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
Well that's nice, and that's like kind of but we
always have aimed for it to feel like I'm so
glad that that comes through, and for me, it does
feel honestly very much like I'm just casually having a
conversation with a friend, whether it's somebody that I am
very close friends with, like Michelle Williams, or somebody that
I don't know, like you know, David Letterman for instance,

(07:22):
when you know when he came on the show, I
was nervous for David Letterman, but like it did make
me feel very at ease that we were.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
Just in this casual sitting on the couch talking.

Speaker 1 (07:35):
So when you've got somebody on your set or in
your living room like David, I mean, the thing is
is that he's an interviewer. How do you interview an interviewer?
Is it was it tough?

Speaker 2 (07:46):
You asked them questions?

Speaker 1 (07:48):
Yeah, yeah, but human questions, so right, I mean to
get beyond because it's so easy to fall into that
act of an interviewer.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
Oh yeah, for sure.

Speaker 3 (07:58):
No, And look I've had yeah, I mean well Andy
Cohen was a guest on the first season, Stephen Coleberts
come on the show, and now David Letterman, I'm me
Rosie O'Donnell, who also is you know, very famously an interviewer.
I think that the trick is you do have to

(08:18):
sometimes be just as the host.

Speaker 2 (08:20):
You have to be aware that.

Speaker 3 (08:22):
They might try to fall into that pattern. They might
just do it not even trying to subconsciously, where they
ask you questions and you just have to redirect and
keep turning it back to them. And yeah, it's a
little bit of a dance in a game, but it's
also meant to be a conversation. So I never sort
of shy away from sharing my own experience as well.

(08:46):
If that's something that any guest you know, asks me,
engage with them.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
My wife will tell me quit interviewing people when you
go out to dinner, Quit interviewing them. Just have a
conversation going. I just want to know. I've got an
inquisitive mind. I just want to know.

Speaker 3 (09:01):
I think it's great to be curious about other people's experiences,
and then I also think that there's something really valuable
in sharing your.

Speaker 1 (09:07):
Own you know, Wow, where can people go to find
out more about what you're doing, because you're doing more
than just late night TV?

Speaker 2 (09:15):
Oh sure?

Speaker 3 (09:15):
Well yeah, I mean I have the podcast Busy Phillips
is doing her best wherever you get podcasts, so you
can listen to that. We also have great guests on there.
But Casey sat On, she's my producer from Busy Tonight
and Busy this Week is also my co host on
that podcast, and then you know Instagram.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
Social media.

Speaker 3 (09:36):
I'm on all of those platforms, and then Busy this
Week is on QVC plus HSN plus, which is a
free streaming.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
App anyone can download, so I hope people check it out. Also, girls,
I've have us still on Netflix. Guys, you can watch that. Wow.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
Please come back to the show anytime in the future, Busy,
the door is always going to be open for you.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
Thanks so much. Er, have a great day.

Speaker 1 (09:59):
Well, you be brilliant today.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
Okay, okay, I fell. Thank you.
