Speaker 1 (00:00):
It really is about sharing stories. But the question is,
as the listener of podcasts, what kind of story are
you willing to digest today in this moment of now.
That's why we give you a choice on arrow dot
net a R R OEt net enjoy your exploration Arrow Arrow.
Speaker 3 (00:18):
Okay, Arrow are you there?
Speaker 1 (00:19):
Oh my god? Two guys with enormous voices. What the hell?
I'm just going to go back in this other room
and let you guys do the talking. Holy crap, stop
it their Arrow, my god, try to buttter us up. Man, Tommy.
I gotta tell you, this show is so in tune
with what my wife and I've been doing for thirty
(00:40):
three years when it comes to animal rescue as well
as shelters and things like that. And I just you know,
it's one of those where you just want to ask
why did it take so long? But then again, I
understand because there's a lot of people that make decisions
right now, but we need leadership from people like yourself
to say, hey, look, there's a better way and a
safer way to do what it is that you want
to do. But you've got to respect the people that
are bringing it to you.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
No er, I mean I can't tell you enough how
how important the message is.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
And that's that's what I'm living for.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
You know, I've been on television for four decades, thousands
of hours of broadcast television. These last six seasons have
been a game changer for me, the best TV I've
ever made. Well, the person that brought me this whole,
you know, got me involved is Betty White.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
Yeah, you know.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
I used to host the SPCA telethons with Betty. She
changed my life and forever and I was so proud
when I started the TV show to the Rescue. I
called her up and I said, listen, I'm doing this show.
And she was so excited and she goes, okay, Tommy,
I can't travel much. But I said, that's okay, Betty,
(01:47):
I'm coming to Los Angeles and we're going to do
some stuff. And she goes, I can't believe it took
you this long to do this, and uh, you know,
she knew I was doing it. But the saddest thing
is is once we took a year and a half
to get the show rolling and on the air, and
so by that time she got too sick and it
(02:08):
was heartbreaking, but she knew what we were doing.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
Yeah, But I'm so proud of people like you that
understand the mission and how important it is if you've
got a dog in your family. Oh my gosh, you
get it. These dogs give us so much. And I
just you know, I can't scream it loud enough from
the mountaintops, right these dogs change our lives. I got
to tell you a quick story. So I built a
(02:36):
show with Mario Hemingway and Time Magazine on the solutions
to teen suicide. And after interviewing thousands of kids, I
learned one thing that eighty five percent of the time
when there was a dog in the house, it helped
those kids through their tough hours.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
So from that moment on, I said, this is going
to become a huge mission of ours. And I you know,
our show's been on six seasons. It took me four years,
but I built a vertical of pet insurance. So I
started a pet insurance company called to the Rescue There
and the mission is we are the only front facing,
(03:16):
mission based pet insurance company in America. So when you
buy a policy, it helps me give them away to
families that can't afford to keep their dog in the house.
As I deal with shelters all over the country. The
one thing I see that is so frustrating arrow is
(03:36):
that these single parents that can't afford to keep a dog,
they take them back to the shelters. So it's a
huge problem and you've probably seen it too you're in business.
So we give away policies to these families to make
sure that dog stays there. I have deals with pedigree
and fresh pet, and we'll send you food, whatever it
(03:57):
takes to keep that dog in the house or with
I work so much with veterans. We trained dogs up
for veterans suffering from ETSD and first responders and families
with autism. We want to make sure that these dogs
are with you are an elderly on fixed income. I
can't tell you how many elderly people that call me
(04:19):
up or right. And what I do is I watch
everybody that goes on We've been on for two months
our pet insurance company, and I can see as you're
getting quotes and who didn't sign up. So I make
it a point to call hundreds of people every week.
I just want to find out why, you know, what
was holding you back? And I talked to so many
(04:40):
elderly folks that say, these dogs everything to me.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
I can't afford pet insurance.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
But Tommy, if you want me to buy the insurance,
I will, and I go no, No, you're on fixed income,
Please don't buy it. Let me give you a policy.
I want to make sure that I know what this
dog's doing to you, you know, for you in your
life and your it. You know, so many elderly folks
that have lost to you know, their love of their life,
and they're by themselves. And when I know they have
(05:08):
a puppy dog in that house, oh my gosh, they're
they're living as good a life as they can have
because because that's their their best friend.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
When you when you open your heart this wide, I mean,
it's it's it's it's such a beautiful story because you
know it's it's like reaching into the stories of the
emergency responders. We don't get to hear stories like yours, Tommy,
and it requires a show like To the Rescue to
be able to say, hey, by the way, well, while
you were busy living life and going about this is
what's really going on in the world. And people's lives
(05:41):
are changing because of people like Tommy, as well as
these emergency responders, and you're right about when it comes
to dog saving people's lives. I didn't go looking for
my dog, Jazzy. My wife said, we're gonna go get one.
You need a dog. And this little girl we call
her the disaster artist because she totally destroyed the house.
But I sat down with her in my living room
and I said, you need to teach me about you,
(06:02):
because you're not going back to that shelter. You're going
to show me who you are. It has been the
most fulfilling experience to build up this relationship, and that's
what I wish people would understand. And they need to
show like to the rescue in order to inspire them.
Do not stop keep growing arrow you give it.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
I've got chills from that story, and I you know,
I do have to tell you this is kind of funny,
but one of the perks you get with my insurance.
You said that dog chewed up your house. Oh yeah,
Well with our insurance you get a pet warranty. What
so if your dog chews up your couch or anything,
(06:41):
you get up to fifteen hundred dollars my God to
replace that so we can give you televet service. But
that pet warranty is a huge hit because if you
got a puppy dog or a cat, you're gonna know
there could be a little bit of a disaster and
this helps you helps you through that and you can
go to and sorry, I'm doing a cheap pitch here,
(07:02):
but it's so important for the mission. Rescuepetcare dot Com.
Get a free quote, you know, send me a note
if you have any questions. I'm very active.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
You know.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
Customer service is the biggest thing for me because I
know when I get a subscriber, I get to help
somebody else.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
So it's so important.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
And listen, you know I get I got to tell
you about our program. So we do a thing called
Rescue Dog of the Week and it's sponsored by Texas
Day Brazil. And this week on the show, Susannah a
petite female terrier mix from West Memphis Animal Shelter. She's
ten pounds. I need to get her adopted for the holidays.
(07:46):
Texas Day Brazil is going to pay for all the
adoption fees to the rescue is going to pay for
everything it takes to get sweet Susanna all the way
to Charlotte for free. Yep, So you can adopt Charlotte.
She's got a wounded little Paul right and so she'll
probably have a little bit of a limp, and that's
what makes her so sweet. The staff and volunteers over
(08:09):
at West Memphis Animal Shelter, she's her favorite. She's only
ten months old. We pay for everything. So go to
to the Rescue tv dot com. You can meet Susannah
and you can see how to adopt her and let
me pay for everything to do that.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
Here's what I want you to do. I want you
to check out Rescue PetCare dot com. Rescue PetCare dot com.
We'll be right back with Tommy Habe. Coming up next
Rescue Healthcare dot com. We are back with Tommy Habe
from To the Rescue on CW. In your travels and
your experience with to the Rescue, have you met up
with Brother Fred in the past few years at all?
(08:46):
From Chicago. He's that radio disc jockey that has an
airplane and he flies dogs to people so they can
get the dogs. And it's free. Because you just explained
exactly what Brother Fred is doing.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
Oh yes, no, you know he's wonderful and his mission
on what he does and I got to tell you
I can't tell you enough. The people in shelter rescue
and rescues, and these pilots that give their time for free,
and these guys that are retired and bought little planes
and they're flying animals. And we have big partners like
(09:17):
Southwest Airlines, right Bill, all their sweet flight attendants they
help us too. They'll bring a dog with them so
they can transport that dog. And Wings of Rescue we
do huge transports with Wings of Rescue where we'll load
up hundreds of dogs onto planes. But the guys that
are making you know the difference, like Fred and Chicago. Yeah,
(09:40):
these and there's dozens of these guys that they understand.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
And all you have to do is do transport. Once.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
When you experience taking a dog, if it's for one leg,
right fifty miles, thirty miles, one hundred miles, your life's
changed because you put that little puff in your hands
and you go, I'm tanking you to your forever home.
Maybe it's just one leg, or it's the whole trip.
It's like it's infectious. You can't stop. You fall in
(10:08):
love with the mission. And I have to tell you,
I do so many transports and I bring volunteers right.
And part of the fun what we do with our
pet insurance. I told us to home Deepot, I said, listen,
they go all of our all of our we we're
going to start offering it right to our employees.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
They're all going to switch over.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
And I said, okay, I want you to pick twenty
volunteers and from your employees. And I tell everybody this,
let me just come help us with a transport and
we get up early. And when you're putting these dogs
on these planes and you're meeting them or you're helping
with volunteer.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
Dude, it is so powerful.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
My kids, since they were little have done it and
now you watch them has grown men. They can't stop.
It's infectious. It's the most beautiful experience because really it's
about humanity. And you do once and it changes how
you what you think about everyone and in your everyday life,
(11:10):
and it makes you smile. And I can't tell you
how powerful that is, you know, uh, Er, I get
a lot of emails and people ask me about training
tips and food and all kinds of things. I try
to give a little training trip tip and so I
want to just give something to you. You know, your
your listeners. And remember if you have a puppy, even
(11:32):
if you have a grown dog, you know if you're
trying to teach them. And dogs are very malleable. They
love to learn, they love to listen to you. There's
I always say a dog learns more from a calm
heart than a loud.
Speaker 3 (11:46):
Command to scream. They don't need it.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
Train with a treat, not a training collar, no shot collars.
Speaker 3 (11:54):
Give them your love, give them your heart, give them
a little treat and it works.
Speaker 2 (11:59):
You know, you don't have to You don't have to
yank on them, never yank on that collar.
Speaker 3 (12:04):
You don't have to. Just be consistent and training with
your heart.
Speaker 1 (12:10):
I'll never forget when when the dog trainer came over
because of our wild you know, disaster artists. But I
love her to pieces. But when he came over and
he goes, the first thing you need to do is
make sure you do not sleep with that dog. I said,
we can leave now, because that dog is going to
sleep with me. You can go bye bye. It's nice seeing.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
You exactly no, listen, it's exactly right. And so you know,
you know, I don't know. There's so many different ways
to train. And I you know, I can't. I can't
yell at people, but I just you know, you have
to know, treat these dogs how you want to be treated.
You know, did your parents you're a baby, put a
leash on you and yank you around the house. No, No,
(12:49):
they gave you love and they taught to you you know,
pee right there, learn how to you know when they're
trading you out to use the bather and get you
out of diapers. And and I'm going to do one
more last shameless pitch because it's so important that you
know that you join our mission. Go on to our website,
to the Rescue tv dot com, email me be part
(13:11):
of our volunteer program around the country. Our pet insurance
listen as little as seventy one since the day. You
can get full coverage for your pet. And then you're
going to be helping people. And that's what's so important.
If you if you have pet insurance, you know, don't
give it to the big conglomerates. Give it to you know,
(13:32):
help help your fellow human beings and puppy dog. You know,
we have you know that comes along with our pet
insurance is televet service. And like I told you earlier, uh,
you know, we have the pet warranty, which is so
much fun. You know, we have a if you ever
get prescriptions on your own for you know, for us humans,
(13:55):
you know expensive those prescriptions can be. And we have
the equivalent to the good RX card. Right, that's so discount. Yep, prescription,
that's that's so inexpensive. And if you've got pay for
heartworm medicine, you know, it's one hundred and eighty bucks.
So with our program, it's just pennies to day.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
Yeah, because CBS has been so nice to us in
doing that, because that's how we get Jazzy's medicine is
through CBS, and they work with us so closely. And
it said that, and why do I keep going back
Because they keep taking care of me. And if you
understand my language with my puppy, then we're then we're
a team.
Speaker 3 (14:28):
That's exactly right. Man.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
I'm so proud of you and what you're doing. And
you're giving us this chance to because we try to
reach everybody. You know, our show is uh, you know,
we're on the CW in your area, but we're also
and if people will you know, just give me five
minutes on the show and you're gonna you'll be changed forever.
And I want to hear from you too. So if
(14:51):
you don't watch show, it doesn't matter. Just go to
Tommyhavive on Instagram dm me ask me your questions about
your dog you know, or or if you want a
specific dog, adopt, don't shop. We can get you any
kind of dog you want, pure breads. It doesn't matter.
Those those dogs are out there. I gotta say, of
(15:13):
these puppy mills, right, yeah, they have to We have
to raid and go and try to rescue these puppies.
Speaker 1 (15:20):
I've been a part of that. I've been a part
of that.
Speaker 3 (15:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
Yeah, And so you know, we have a lot of
pure breads out there. People get these dogs too, and
they can't they can't keep them, so they bring them
to the shelter. We find them, so we can get
you any kind of dog you want.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
One of the things that I'm bumping into. And I
don't know if you're just strictly with with dogs and cats,
but there's a lot a lot of people when they
buy these exotic birds. Those birds are lasting seventy five
to one hundred years. There's a lot of people who
are just dumping their birds. And it's one of those
where it's like we've got to get people to start
talking about that too, and they need some love too
as well as going to the VAT to get checked out.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
Yes, and you know there are many shelters that that
we visit and work with around the country that yes,
they take all animals.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
And I see, you know.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
Hundreds and hundreds of birds where people have just neglected
them and they just they let them out. And these
poor birds when you've when you've had it at home,
they don't know how to live.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
No, no one, no, no no.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
And so they don't understand. You know, if you're going
to adopt a bird or go buy a bird or
any kind of exotic you've bet, you have to learn
a little something, right, learn how long they're going to live,
and then learn of what it really takes to be
able to take care of a pet like that. Out
(16:40):
of out of sheer necessity, I didn't mean to, but
you know, I got a call and there was this
little tiger that somebody had gotten and they go, well,
you just keep them for a short time, and over
two years it turned out all of a sudden, I'm
going and rescuing out of apartments, these three hundred pound
(17:03):
lions one hundred one, and I went, oh my gosh, this,
I love them and I want to try to help.
Because people adopt exotics or buy them, right, I shouldn't
say adopt. They don't know what they're getting involved in, right,
And it's just not fair. It's not fair to the
animals at all. And you're going to find out usually
(17:25):
it's going to create a problem. So there's many animals
that in the black market people are selling off and
it just makes me crazy wow to see it because
you don't know what you're getting involved in, and many
people get hurt, especially when you're talking about big cats. Right,
But I see so many shelters, you know, they are
(17:46):
taking in these birds and these sweet birds don't deserve that.
Let them live a long and happy life. And you
don't once you start, you know, if you keep feeding
that black market, it's just not that's so true.
Speaker 1 (18:02):
Once again, where can people go to find out about
what you're doing with the pet rescue, with with with
to the rescue as well as the insurance, because I
want people to tap into your energy, mister Tommy.
Speaker 3 (18:13):

And hit me up on Instagram and ask me questions,
training questions, food questions. We do a lot of fun stuff.
You know, I've seen in working with shelters, the the
(19:26):
problems with these dogs as they come in and they're
they're a mess. And it forced me to to go
and create a Pet Supplement Line, so you can go
get to the few pet health supplements.
Speaker 3 (19:38):
You know.

the country. It means so much. And thanks for giving
me a voice just from the mountaintop.
Speaker 1 (20:28):

Speaker 3 (20:29):
Okay, Tommy, all right, my friend, love you.
Speaker 1 (20:32):
I love you too. Thank you, sir much. Thank you.
