Speaker 1 (00:00):
He thanks for being a part of the conversation. Let's
do some podcrashing. Episode number three seventy five is with
Martin Luther King the Third and Andrea King from the
podcast My Legacy.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
We're doing wonderful. How are you?

Speaker 1 (00:11):
Thank you absolutely fantastic. Before we get started. I want
to thank you too for bringing God into this podcast.
And you do it in such an embracing way. It's
not like I'm gonna You're going to hell. You're doing this.
You allow God to work through us so that we
can reach others. And I feel it so much in
this podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
Wow, thank you.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
Thank you for saying that.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
And the stories you share, you give people and listeners
the identity of the soul of another person like David.
I mean, I mean it amazes me what he comes
from from Africa and he hasn't experienced what we have
in the States, and yet he's got to play Martin
Luther King Junior in this movie and he has to
do the studying and you sent the book to him.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
Yes. Absolutely.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
My favorite part of his story too, though, is that
you know, being so in character and you know, not
breaking character, and then you know talking to his wife
and she wanted to you know, she was, you know,
doing something in the house and was asking his opinion
about the curtains, and she was like, you know, and
he started and she's like, man, please not speak to
doctor King right now. I need to talk to David

(01:18):
about about the curtains.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
What was it like for the two of you to
have a conversation with him because playing in the movie Selma,
he doesn't have that British accent or that accent, but boy,
when you listen to him on this podcast, you're going, oh,
he's blessed with such a beautiful accent.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
Oh very much so. Oh, it was a wonderful opportunity, uh,
to to hear him share and really the preparation and
how he went through several years of working to get
the role and ultimately at some point knowing that he
was going to get it, but it went through so
many iterations. It was he stayed focused and and and

(01:57):
then shared spiritually how he got he was connected and
ultimately got the role because no one in hearing him talk,
he talks as you say, so so in a beautiful way.
You would say, well, how's this guy gone play? But
he nailed it. He was masterful and you understand how
he was able to nail it when he shares doing

(02:19):
the podcast.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
When you use that word share, that that touches my
soul so deeply. The reason why is because I believe
in the mantra share your story or someone will write
it for you and your podcast my legacy is all
about sharing their stories.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
It is, and it also invites listeners in too. You know,
at a time when we are more disconnected than ever,
you know, we're disconnected from each other, We're disconnected, you know,
in many ways, from community and from our faith. This
is a way to invite all of our listeners in
and to find inspiration and connection, to find themselves within

(02:57):
in the stories that that our wonderful guests are are sharing,
and then to take that take that message immediately. There
has not been one conversation that we've had that I
did not take something immediately to use within in my life.
And so we just we're very very honored to be
to be bringing this uh these conversations and this podcast

(03:21):
to the world, and particularly during during this time.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
One of the things that I'm learning or I've taken
from it, like you talked about, is the fact that
you you allow us to understand our transformations because we're
always transitioning. But we have to keep in mind we're
not doing it alone. There's people around us. Include them
in the conversation.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
Well, that's so so key in terms of what we
hope UH we are able to accomplish through UH through
the podcast. And that is the reconnecting. If you're disconnected,
which we think so many in our society are, meaning
not that you're bad or anything, is that we are
not connected enough. When you're connected to community, it's almost

(04:06):
like when you know better, you do better. And so
we want to create a better nation and a better
world really for all of God's children. And some of
these stories that individuals will share can inspire others. You know,
if they can do that, then I can do that,
and I can reach and achieve my goal, my dream
for my life. And yet every day legacy is about

(04:31):
creating something on a daily basis. It does not have
to be monumental, but it could be something very small
that you do every day to make your life better
for yourself, for your family, for your community. And that's
what we hope. This inspiration is created from from these
experiences that others are sharing.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
And one thing that I will say is having our
guests bring up plus one with them of their using
and you know, some guests have you know, they've bought
their they're a child with them, some have bought a sibling,
some have bought a spiritual advisor, some have bought their
their spouse with with David and Nate, they you know,

(05:15):
they bought their best friends. But it really allows I think,
deeper connections and conversations, and we really get to experience
people that we you know, that we've seen or heard,
but we really get to experience them on a very
personal level and in a deeper way. And again, the

(05:37):
takeaway for listeners is not just you know, it's it's
also seeing their vulnerabilities and and maybe you know in
a way in which that our listeners may share. It's
seeing the fact that each and every one of us
have had many mountains come but you know, how how
have individuals how have how have they done that? And

(05:58):
what is it that we can take away to continue
to do that? And then ultimately, how can we all
be part of something larger than ourselves? Because our goal
in this is also to help point people towards our
realize the dream initiative, which is where we're working in
communities all across the country to collectively complete one hundred

(06:19):
million hours of service by the one hundredth birthday of Martin.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
Luther King Junior.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
One hundred for one hundred. Well, you know, and the
idea is that we will then beland the foundation for
his vision of a beloved community. But that all starts
and begins with connection.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
Oh, I just want to say, amen, amen, amen, amen amen.
I mean, because you're so right about that that we
need to connect together. How can people get involved with
that goal right there? Because we got listeners all over
the world here we need to work together as a community.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
Well, you can go to Realize the Dream dot org
the website get all the information about service service opportunities.
You can also and there's an app to stop to
start logging logging your service hours to get in to
also go and get inspiration for what others are doing
and how you can be a part or really be

(07:12):
a part of creating the world and which you believe
in and really be a part of creating realizing the
dream of Martin Luther King Jr.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
One of the things that you really bring forward is
and it's kind of an invisible way. Is that it's like,
don't judge a book by its cover. In other words,
we think we know doctor Sanjay Gupta, and we also
think we know Martin Sheen, but when we listen to them,
oh my goodness. I mean you take us into their
chapters and we see a completely different person.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
Absolutely absolutely, I mean it. You know, like I said,
we as a society, as a community, I think what
I often say is we know the glory, but we
don't always necessarily know the story. And the stories are
so inspirational, this journey that people have taken to get
to where they are or what they do every day.

(08:04):
People who are depositing so much positive energy into the universe,
and hopefully it may be create in the mindset or
reset for some who maybe have not thought about, well,
you know what, I can deposit something as well. And
the great thing is that everyone has a story of

(08:26):
some kind and it's important. It doesn't have to just
be important to you individually, meaning your story. Yes, your
story is certainly important to you, but it also gives
us the capacity to think about others and what others
have to go through and go through ultimately to create
what they believe is success and that's you know. It

(08:49):
really does take a village to raise a child. It's
just a few good human beings who are doing things
every day that help create the tone for all of us.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
Wow. Please come back to this show anytime in the future.
The door is always going to be open for you too.
