And now on with the show. Guests today Barbara Demartis
Bucci and Danielle Zis. Barbara got you on the phone first.
How are you?
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Oh, I'm just wonderful. Thank you great?
Speaker 1 (01:05):
Are you I'm fine? Thanks great to talk to you.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
Yes, thank you, it's you know.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
I see I've been seeing you on Facebook and wherever
for so many years because you're involved with the Martin
Artisan Skuild. But we've never actually met, have we?
Speaker 2 (01:24):
You know, I was thinking the same thing myself, and
I do not believe that we have met in person.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
No, I thought that happens to me a lot. But
because because we communicate so often, or that I see
so much of what people are doing, I feel as
though I know them.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Yes, I understand and agree, saying with me, Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
Let's talk about you the Martin Artisan Skuild and what
you have coming up. What is your art forum, your
favorite I know a lot of artists do not stick
to strictly to one medium.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
Well, my story is that I'm an art school dropout,
a retired floral designer and flower shop owner, and it
really wasn't until the pandemic when I needed something creative
to do at home that I sort of went back
(02:27):
to my roots and discovered how much I enjoyed doing collage.
And I've been sticking with that for the past five years.
I've developed an idea, a concept that I call mermaid boxes.
The idea being that even mermaids need a place to
(02:49):
put their treasures right they have they have no pockets
and go ahead I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
Go ahead, no, no, no, continue with that please, I
was going to just ask you more about the Mermaid boxes.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
Well, I like the idea of having a place to
put treasures, right, So I think things have changed over
the past few decades. You know, everything is you know,
embedded in your phone. Photograph people used to have, you know,
(03:25):
draws full of f camera and postcards and you know
photo albums that they bring out, you know, at coffee
with friends or after dinners, and and things have changed
so much that that doesn't exist anymore, that that idea
of having a sacred place for treasures. And it could
(03:47):
be you know, when I say treasures, it could be
just you know, a rock or a shell or something
that you know one might find on a favorite walk
or you know, visiting the Grand Canyon or you know,
just different things like that. So the Mermaid boxes have evolved.
(04:08):
At first, I was including scraps of paintings of my
late fathers, and as my confidence grew, I just sort
of began to you know, create my own papers. That
took some online workshops, and I've just been running with
it and I've kind of graduated, I guess in a
(04:30):
way to from from the boxes themselves to a more
two dimensional something you can hang on a wall.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
That's interesting is that on your website. Do you have
a website?
Speaker 2 (04:44):
First of all, yeah, I do. I don't keep up
with it, but it is Barboucy Creations dot com. And
all you'll see there are the Mermaid boxes. A lot
of them are no longer available. I've either given them
away or sold them.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
You're also on Facebook, I understand.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
Yes, Facebook and also Instagram, so you can find me
in both those places. And I exhibit at the Martin
Artist in Guils Gallery, which is called the Palm Room,
and that's the downtown Sule's Point if you will. In
Harbor Bay Plaza.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
That's Stuart R.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
Yeah, that is Stuart. I have worked there all the time,
and coincidentally, tonight we have an event there called Meet
the Artists that I'd like to tell you about.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
Okay, and let's let's mention the date and time because
this will be online for maybe forever. The date is August.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Okay, yeah, what is today? Today? Is August six, right,
and it's in Harbor Bay Plaza at the east end.
The exact address is thirty seven forty six Southeast Ocean
Boulevards and the name of the space is the Palm Room,
(06:11):
and it's a member gallery for the Martin Artisan's Guilds
and we have a boutique in there as well. We
just finished a two week renovation where we kind of
gussied up the place and decided that we wanted to
integrate the boutique items out from where they were in
(06:34):
enclosed space in the back of the gallery, so now
they're displayed as part of the art in the main gallery.
We have some illuminated pedestals where the jewelry just sparkles
and shines, and we thought that if we could make
(06:55):
it a little less intimidating, you know, more people would
come in the visibility for the kind of airy public
commons area out in front of the.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
Gallery, make it accessible.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
Captivate the passers by a little bit more. It seems
to be working, so that's been a success so far.
In addition to our regular two months exhibit called the
Summer Salon, for the first time ever we opened up
(07:31):
to the public. We had an open call for non members.
So in addition to the Summer Salon, which is an
annual show for us, we have something called Small Squared
and it's a total of forty three artists that could
display up to three pieces, and that kind of zigzags
(07:54):
down the center of the gallery on pro panels. But
it made for a very very very exciting open opening reception,
which was the first Wednesday, well, I guess it was
July sixteenth, So tonight is an event called Meet the Artist,
(08:14):
So there'll be Guild members there as well as some
of these Small Squared artists.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
Okay, and that's that's there through August thirtieth, correct, Yes,
that's correct, and that and that's the Palm Room Art Gallery, correct, Okay,
and that's summer.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
Yeah, And of course the the shows just keep keep
rolling on down the line. When the Summer salon and
Small Squared comes down, we have fallen too. Art And
then a sort of annual fundraiser called Chances for Art,
(08:55):
which offers grants to cover of the Martin County Open
Studio Tour fees. So that's really exciting. You can get
you know, artwork that's donated by participating members that will
be on our tenth annual Open Studio Tour. That is
(09:16):
a huge deal.
Speaker 1 (09:18):
When is that this year?
Speaker 2 (09:20):
Well, it's in twenty twenty sixth, and it will be
Saturday and Sunday February twenty first and twenty second.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
Okay, I remember when you first what not you but
when the Martin Artisans Guild first started talking about that,
this is it's so exciting what you all have done.
I kind of remember quite a while ago that you
started mentioning the gallery, the Palm Room Art Gallery, And
(09:51):
how long have you all been there? In a larger context.
Speaker 2 (09:57):
Well, the gallery itself, we've been in. This is our
third location in Harbor Bay Plot. Okay, yeah, so right
at the beginning of the pandemic, let's say, we were
gifted a huge space that they were unable to rent
but thought it would be better to have it occupied
(10:18):
even if it was a gift, which you know worked
for us, right, So we were there for about eighteen months,
and then we were in another space after it was
no longer the larger space was not available. They finally
were able to rent it to a group of lawyers,
so we were in another space and then we looked around.
(10:41):
We kind of fantasized about having a you know, beautiful
gallery downtown Stewart, but between the rents and the parking, right,
So we'll just stay where we are. We found, you know,
a beautiful space, did some renovation, did some fundraising, and
we've been in the current location for about four four
(11:02):
and a half years.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
Okay, Barbara, we have we're about running out of time,
and there's so much more I'd like to talk to
you about. So let's make a date. I'll get back
with you later today and let's make a date. I
want to talk about your father and you're from Florence, Italy,
Is that right?
Speaker 2 (11:21):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (11:21):
Okay, we have so much more I want to ask you.
I will thank you through August thirtieth, the summer salon
at Palm Room Art Gallery and the address again.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
The address again is thirty seven forty six Southeast Ocean
Boulevard in Harbor Bay Plaza.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
Okay, thanks Barb, great to talk to you.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
Likewise, have a great day you too.

And we are back with arts Plaster on the air.
I'm Willie Miller and talking with Danielle Zists today. Danielle,
you know we're talking because I talked to Aaron Collins
from the space Co Symphony Orchestra about the music Man
coming up, and he said, yeah, I'd love to talk
(14:52):
to you, but you'd rather talk to danielle'sis so here
we are. Well, you you don't play in the space
Co Symphony Orchestra, right.
Speaker 2 (15:03):
I do not?
Speaker 6 (15:04):
I write it.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
You are the director of productions with the Central Florida
Vocal Arts. We need to talk about them before we
get into the music Man. What is Central Florida Vocal Arts.
Speaker 6 (15:20):
Oh, I'm so glad you asked, and thank you first
and foremost for having me on the show. Okay, So,
Central Florida Vocal Arts is a nonprofit music advocacy organization. Basically,
we do main stage productions like what we'll talk about
with the music Man and various performances around Central Florida.
(15:42):
But we also teach We are an education organization. We
focus a lot on children and the elderly and groups
of people who need vocal energy in their life. So
basically we teach everyone that your voice matters and that
everyone can sing, does not matter what you sound like.
Singing is for all. And yeah, that's our two main focuses,
(16:06):
education and performance.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
Talk about Opera del Saul. How is that involved with
Central Florida Vocal Arts.
Speaker 6 (16:15):
Yeah, so, Opera del Soul is an arm of our programming.
So it's like our little sister organization, and it was
really started to bring opera into more people's life. You know,
growing up, I didn't have a chance to view opera
or see any operas. I thought opera music was only
for quote unquote old people. I then learned that that's
(16:38):
totally not true. Central Florida Local Arts brought Opera del
Soul in where they bring operas that carry so much
emotion and interesting concepts into smaller theaters all around Central Florida,
and it's amazing, It.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
Is amazing, it's wonderful. How can people get to seeing
your performances.
Speaker 2 (17:02):
That's a great question.
Speaker 6 (17:04):
Like I said, we do perform all over Central Florida,
So we do perform on the Space Coast every year.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
But we have a website if if the.
Speaker 6 (17:14):
Listeners want to go to Suentscrol Florida Vocal Arts dot
org you're able to see all of the events that
we have coming up for our main stage productions as
well as operad All Souls. You can also see that
we are an organization that also helps with event planning
and entertainment for corporate events or smaller gigs. You know,
(17:35):
if somebody wants to have a themed birthday party and
let's say they want stingers that are dressed up as
Dinny princesses, we're your people. We do that kind of thing.
And then starting in November, we have our Bells and Bows,
which is an a cappella group that we'll be singing
Christmas carols and other holiday songs all throughout Central Florida
(17:56):
as well, and all of that's available on the website.
We're all so on Facebook and Instagram and all of
those other social media sites under Central Florida.
Speaker 1 (18:05):
Book like, and I'll have to be honest, I was
not aware of the extent of your activities and thrust
into the community. This is great. We're going to have
to do some more talking later, especially when we get
to the holiday season. What's the name of that again.
Speaker 6 (18:22):
The acapella Yeah, the acapella group is called Bellsanfos and
it's a mix of men and women singing in four
part harmonies and other beautiful arrangements, all of your favorite
songs from the holidays. Thankfully wonderful.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
Okay, and the website Central Florida Vocal Arts dot org.
People can get information on all of this on the website. Correct.
Speaker 6 (18:49):
Yes, we have all the information there and if anybody
wants to contact us, they can email us at info at.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
Central Florida Vocal Arts.
Speaker 6 (18:58):
Dot org or the can find us on various social
media platforms.
Speaker 1 (19:03):
Okay, no need for listeners to be taking notes. Just listen, listen, listen,
hand enjoy. Okay. Let me tell you that we do
need to mention that your new season coming up is
picture perfect. Tell me a little bit about that before
we get back to the music. Man.
Speaker 6 (19:22):
Yeah, we always try to come up with our theme
for our full season. We do three large scale productions
every year and to kick it off, we're doing Music Man,
and as we were developing the shows for this season,
we were like, what's the tying theme for all of this?
And honestly, it's about creation of art, but it's also
(19:44):
about idealism and wanting to have art or something in
your life that looks perfect, and why that's not always healthier,
why that won't always work. Which anyone familiar with The
Music Man knows that it starts as one thing and
kind of ends as another. As you see the main character,
Harold Hill, become a better person through the ability to love.
(20:07):
So all of the shows that we're doing this season
are kind of at an angle like that, centered around
the love.
Speaker 1 (20:15):
Okay, now we better get to The music Man before
we run out of time. Meredith Wilister. Meredith Wilson wrote
it a note two l's and Wilson there and let
me see let me read the sixth time Tony Award
winning musical comedy been around since nineteen fifty seven? Hard
to believe, isn't it?
Speaker 2 (20:37):
Hard to believe?
Speaker 6 (20:38):
For sure? And it's still so relevant today.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
Yeah. Yeah, And you're doing it as a concert staging.
You got thirty people on stage right with the and
the space Cosymphony Orchestra.
Speaker 6 (20:52):
Yeah, so right now we have twenty five in the
orchestra and we have the twenty six in the cap.
It is done in sponsor. But honestly, our director and
our cast got so excited. It's pretty full on for
a concert. There's lots going on, lots of movement, there's
some dancing. So it's a full launch show that people
(21:13):
will really enjoy.
Speaker 1 (21:14):
Okay, we should tell people where it's going to be.
Speaker 2 (21:18):
Yeah, Oh my gosh.
Speaker 6 (21:19):
So we have two performances on the Space Coast. It
would love everyone to attend. The first one is Saturday,
August sixteenth at seven pm at the Satellite High School
Performing Arts Center.
Speaker 1 (21:30):
And could I say that the following days in Vero Beach.
Speaker 6 (21:34):
It is the following day it's in Vero Beach, so Sunday,
August seventeenth at three pm, So that's an even better
time slot. Yes, we're at the Vero Beach High School
Performing Arts Center, which is a lovely space.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
Yeah, and that's open seating, so get.
Speaker 6 (21:50):
There early, Yes, get there early, come hang out with us.
Speaker 1 (21:56):
Okay, and you've got the music Man in concert at
Doctor Phillips Center for Performing Arts in Orlando that's coming up.
Is it the following weekend, the twenty second to.
Speaker 6 (22:06):
Twenty fourth, Yes, it is yep, August twenty second to
the twenty fourth, eight pm for the twenty second and
twenty third, but the twenty fourth is a three pm.
Speaker 1 (22:15):
Show, okay? Is it? Can? Can people get tickets online?
I have not been to the Doctor Phillips Center.
Speaker 6 (22:25):
Absolutely. You can go to the Doctor Phillips Center site
to get tickets, or you can go to Central Florida
Vocal Arts dot org and you've got ticket links up there.
Speaker 1 (22:38):
Okay, you've got so much going on. We will talk again, Okay.
Speaker 6 (22:43):
I would love that.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
Okay, weank you so much. No, we're not finished yet. Wait,
we want to talk about We want to also say
that the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra Season seventeen flex tics
are available online and don't want miss talking about that.
Is it's hard to believe that the new seasons coming
up so soon and tickets are available. Subscriptions are already
(23:08):
selling out. So many more people have discovered this treasure
and Space Coasts that not always easy to get a
last minute ticket, so buying subscriptions ahead of time is
definitely the way to go go great, would you agree?
Speaker 6 (23:26):
Yeah, that's the best thing you can do. And honestly,
sometimes buying a subscription really helps because you you are
more encouraged to go, and once you go, you feel great.
So do yourself a favor. Buy the subscription now. It's
definitely going to be with it.
Speaker 1 (23:41):
Okay. And the Space Cost Symphony Orchestra website that spacecosymphony
