know she's gonna be on again because she got big announcements.
Things are popping and we're gonna talk about boys to
today with the wonderful Brian Schari. Hey, Pria, Hi, how

I am doing so well. I'm happy to be back
on your show. A pleasure.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
Yes, and first and foremost congratulations for your billboard in
Times Square.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
I saw that it was so excited girl, because that
is a huge, huge feat.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
I don't know if I've talked with you guys before,
but I also did artist management back in the day,
so I know what the work that it takes to
get even it's a little bit of recognition, and a
billboard in Times Square is huge, So kudos to you
on that one, because that is who grow big big stuff.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
Yes, yes, yes, I'm sure we'll talk about it, but
it was just it was surreal being it and then
taking it in and go back to work.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
Yes, but hey, that's still something a lot of people
can't say they've had a billboard in Times Square, So
that is definitely definitely big big stuff. But today it's
all about your latest track, boy Toy. I listened to
it first and foremost. I have to say that I
love it. I am a nineties kid, all right, So
(02:16):
I grew up in the nineties. I was a teenager
all that good stuff. So the nineties feel the nineties
in my opinion, honestly, and I might be a little
biased because I grew up in the nineties, but the
nineties was the best time movies, television.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
And music.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
I feel like it was just the pinnacle of just
like the best time for all of those things. And
Boy Toy gave me that nostalgic feel. You've got a
very nineties vibe to you, and I think I've said
that before. You've got a very much a nineties feel
a nineties flair to your music, and it's very reminiscent
(02:51):
of baby Girl shout out to Aliyah, and you know,
just a couple of days ago we celebrated. I can't
even believe it, you know, I think, is it twenty
four years since she's been gone?
Speaker 1 (03:05):
Unreal? Unreal? But you've absolutely encompassed just your whole essence
from that time, and I feel as though yours is
a voice that needs to be heard. We need this energy,
we need this music because I don't listen to music nowadays,
(03:25):
real like if it ain't your stuff, and a couple
of other folks that I know personally, I don't typically
dabble into what's quote unquote trendy and what's new. So
I love Boy Toy for just the empowerment everything that's
going on in dating and workplace and government. I love
(03:48):
the fact that this is a track, This is a
powerful female empowering track that just like I'm like, yes,
that's right, I'm gonna tell you what you're about to
do all you know, but I run this run.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
I love that energy. I absolutely love it. It's just incredibly
bold and provocative. So I want to get into the
inspiration what What was the inspiration that you used for
such a powerful phrase and what message were you hoping
to convey.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
Oh that's a great question. Well, thank you so much
for just, first off, just for the kind words and
you pouring into me about the song. It was a
labor of love and to hear the reaction that you
have is exactly what I what I was hoping for,
and so I thank you for that. So the inspiration
for boy Toy it came from me and my good
(04:43):
friend Kyle Davidson. He is my co writer on the song.
We are good friends. I actually connected with him on Twitter.
I was just looking around for songwriters last year. So
I was like, you know, I want to work with
some different people, start building my team of just different
creatives to help just elevate myself and my artistry. And
(05:04):
so I followed him and I just loved how he
was so in tune with R and B, the new
R and B wave that's cooking up right now. He's
postapping curator, and I noticed that he talked about songwriting,
and so I just reached out to him and I
was like, you know, my name is Bria, and I
see we're both we're both from New York and I'm
(05:25):
trying to do this and this, and so we just
we we ended up connecting and we got on the
phone call and immediately we connected and we were vibing
to Yes, we love R and B. We grew up
on the Aliahs, the Tony's and Mary and we want
to just carry that torch into this this, you know,
twenty twenty five and beyond. And so we were playing
(05:49):
around with different ideas. I had a track that was
up tempo, and one of the things that I talked
to Kyle about was I wanted wanted to bring back
more uptempo R and B. I feel like a love
out of the past ten years or so, liked the
songs have been so slow, and I was like, you know,
I want to bring something different to the table and
(06:09):
just something fun, make make R and B fun, and
just like you were saying with the nineties, like it
was just fun, it was different, and I wanted to
incorporate that into this track. And so I had the track.
We were dabbling on the ideas of just different dynamics
and relationships because we love talking about dating life and
(06:32):
what's going on, and so we were like, you know
what about if the woman. You know how women they're
just so you know, when they got that feminine energy going,
they just they can just pull the man in and
just make the man do whatever to to you know,
make him. It makes him want to to do whatever
he can to make her happy. And I was like, yeah,
(06:54):
I like that idea, and we were thinking of I
came up with the idea of like mister and miss
the Smith, and that's why the covers have me and
the guy in like this suit and I'm kind of
pulling his tie and I got this this bidazo bra
reminiscent to Aliyah, and I was like, I wanted I
just wanted this fun dynamic, and so we were We
(07:15):
stayed up till two am cranking this out. The lyrics
just started flowing because it was like, Okay, Bria, we're
gonna make this edgy. How far you want to go
with this? And I was like, let's just have fun.
And so we we just had so much fun writing
this record, and we cranked it out in one night
pretty much, and and here we are now. I held
onto it for about a year, but I was just
(07:37):
I worked a full time job at Serious Exam and
so it is very taxing on my mind and my
just creative ability sometimes. So I got into my head
a lot and I held onto it, and eventually I
came to the idea of, you know, let's just put
this out. Let's just see what we can do with this.
(07:58):
And I'm proud of it, me and am I writer Kyle,
He's so excited about this song, and so we're like,
let's just go ahead and drop it. So we did,
and here we are.
Speaker 1 (08:08):
Yes, Yes, I absolutely love that.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
Yeah, you definitely get that nostalgic feel like I said,
it's just like, yes, real music is back, you know,
because you know he's been kind of struggling, like you said,
R and B kind of has lost a lot of
that magic. And I feel like if artists really want
to bring in those audiences and want to have those
(08:33):
listeners again, they gotta find a way of relating to us.
And that song right there, like I said, very nostalgic.
I love the feel of it. And you put your
essence in a girl.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
You did that. I did that.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
Now, the term boy toy can have different connotations for
different people, of course. Now, how do you feel that
the song finds or or defined essentially from from your perspective.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
Yeah, yeah, And that was the thing I brought this
up in a previous interview I had where they're like,
you know what about boys so, and I was like,
you know, it could be taken, you know, in that
in that realm of the derogatory, but I wanted this
to be a new twist to it. It's it's just
the play a playful term of of just endearment in
(09:29):
the sense of the man wants to please the woman,
and and the woman it's about women in poment and
again as well, where it's like the woman. I wanted
the women to be able to be fearless and same
what they want from men, and and look, this is
what I want you to do. This is how I
want you to treat me. And and that's how I
wanted to just incorporate that play on words and in
(09:51):
this in these current days, you know, men are like, oh,
I don't want to listen to women, and then on
the opposite side, women are like, well, I don't want
to listen to men, And so I was like, we
gotta figure this out. Well, so with boy toys, like
I want y'all to just listen to it listen to
each other and we can you know, hopefully start mending
(10:11):
these senses and like I said, you know, make love
fun and remind people that it can be fun.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
Yeah. Now, as a songwriter, what was the most challenging
part of writing Boy Toy?
Speaker 3 (10:27):
I think for me it uh the second verse, because
we had we had different ideas for the second verse,
and it just wasn't It didn't fit the wording how
I wanted it to work like. It was very playful
the first verse, and so it was We're trying to
figure out how to keep that playfulness going, and so
(10:48):
it took a little bit. And sometimes when when you
write to a track, you have lyrics in mind, and
then when you go and sting in on the track,
it might not totally fit the mel la or the
structure of the song. But it was just a little
fine tuning points of just okay, let me just tweak that,
let me take that word out, let me put this
one in, let me you know. So that was really it.
(11:11):
But honestly, I think because we were just so infatuated
with this beat, we didn't really have too much of
a struggle writing this track. It was it was so easy,
which is you know, rare to say.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
Yeah, yeah, that's definitely big.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
Now your actual boy toy on this poster, y'all are
awfully cozy, Bria, like any any news anything to say,
like is our imitating life?
Speaker 1 (11:38):
Maybe?
Speaker 3 (11:41):
No, this was strictly professional. But he's an amazing guy. Wan.
I'm pretty sure he has a girlfriend because i'd be seeing.
We'll talk about it in a little bit. But the
billboard that I have up, he just posted his reaction
video and I think one of his girlfriends is in
the comments. You know you did it, baby. We are
(12:02):
not together.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
But yeah, all right, like I said, y'all, y'all, definitely
it's selling the part.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
It definitely makes a part.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
Y'all need to go out there, check the billboard, get
the single. Of course, it's available on all platforms right

people by surprise in a good way. So what can
people expect from you next. Is there maybe something bigger
on the horizon?
Speaker 3 (12:46):

I gotta keep people on their codes, so I do.
I do plan on having a music video put together
with it, you know, soon. I don't want to put
a date on it, but soon. I want this phone

I will deliver it. I do have a movie I
was in. I just wrapped up filming over the summer,
so that would be coming soon. I don't have a
date for that either, but yeah.
