(00:24):
they do, what makes them special. And of course you can also schedule
a consultation right on the website LarsenhomeServices dot com. You can also pick
up phone give them a call sixoh eight five three five forty three forty
three. That's five three five fortythree forty three for Larsen Home Services.
And as mentioned, Andrew joins usthis morning. Andrew, you're keeping dry
out there, well I am today. Yes, there was some nice rain

(00:48):
the other night, sure was.For the second time in a matter of
weeks, my son has been heldin his school's basement because of tornado sirens
going off. So it's a littleuh, a little uh scary and some
of those winds can be can bepretty nasty, but rain also can do
some pretty uh, pretty terrible thingsto a house that's not prepared. It

(01:11):
can't it it can and you know, the weather just just odd. You
know that. When I this pastfall, when they said, you know,
we have an El Nino winner, and I said, yeah, I
wonder what that means. I haveno idea. I said it should be
dry and mild. Well it wasdry and it was mild. But now
it's like we're a month ahead.Doesn't it seem like we're like a month

(01:33):
a hell? Yea? And Imean we had tornadoes and hail in February
and now we had severe thunderstorms.A lot of people might not know this,
but I am a admittedly, I'ma dance dad. So I've got
two daughters who are competitive dancers, and they dance and wanta key and I
live in Lodi, and they havedance four to five nights a week through

(01:57):
the entire year. We are constantlyrunning back and forth and back and forth.
And my older daughter gets picked upat nine o'clock at night on Monday
nights. She yeah, right, and she never complained. She loves it.
So I give her some props forthat. But so I was driving
through that storm on Monday night andthe lightning was insane, and after I

(02:21):
picked her up, it had beenraining the whole time. But it started
to rain to whereas I actually hadto pull over, I could not see
anything. I started the hydroplane andI'm thinking, holy crap, some people's
basements are going to get flooded andnot. We had no less than three
calls the next day people to setappointments to get their gutters looked at because
they had water in their basement. And this wasn't like a you know,

(02:44):
yeah, if our gutters don't workright, we always get hot water in
the basement. No, they hadnever had water in their basement, but
early spring gutters hasn't been cleaned outfrom last winter, gutters overflowing water and
basement And I just wonder how manypeople were out there thinking, oh,
man, I hope everything's working rightbecause gutters start to overflow in a rain

(03:07):
like that, and say your somepump can't keep up, or you don't
have a some pump, or thesome pump stops working, or God forbid,
the power goes out. People getwater in their basement. So I
kind of want to touch on theimportance of a gutter system, the importance
of a properly functioning gutter system thatis the right size, with the proper
amount of downspouts and kind of whatwe do and how we make sure that

(03:30):
that's going to work properly for youall the time, because there's nothing worse
than us. It's dark out,we've got a storm coming, or it
is storming, it's pouring rain, and you're just thinking, oh, man,
I hope my gutters are working properly. You know. One of the
things that I've learned from you Andrewover the years is the importance of not

(03:52):
just having great gutters. Gutter shutare the best out there. Having that
like the part that you think ofand see, but also things like the
downs and making sure that where they'relocated and attached to the to the roof
and how they're attached is important. And then of course that that that run
to get that water away from thehouse. It's it's obviously it all starts

(04:13):
with the gutters because they're doing thesorting, separating and catching, but everything
every other piece has to be topnotch as well, or else the system
will not perform as great as itcan. And that's one of the great
things about working with the folks yourteam ELERSALM Services. They know these products,
They know this stuff inside and out. We do. And and so
when we start with the gutter system, first of all, if we come

(04:34):
out to your house and do afree estimate, it's not just walk around,
you know, run the measuring wheelaround the house and go here,
it's going to be X. It'sa it's a full inspection. We're going
to inspect the gutters that you haveand let you know why they might not
be working properly because let's take outthe factor of the non clock. Okay,

(04:57):
a lot of people can put agutter up that works, that works,
but it has to be flashed properly. What I mean by flash properly
is there has to be a pieceof metal flashing that goes up under the
shingles and then drops down into thegutter. That can be custom made or
typically what a contractor is going touse is your drip edge, which with
your current roof system, which isgreat, works perfect because that water needs

(05:19):
to be able to come off theshingles. It will roll off the shingles,
it will roll around the shingles,I should say, kind of surface
tension will happen and it can actuallythen go behind the gutter. But if
it's flashed properly, it's going togo into the gutter. Next thing that
needs to happen is that those guttersneed to have a slight slope to a
pitch, so as soon as thewater hits the bottom of the gutter,
it is running the direction that wewant it to go, which is towards

(05:42):
your down spout or where the exitpoint is in the gutter. Then we
need to have enough down spouts becauseif it rains too hard you don't have
enough down spouts, the gutter canbecome overwhelmed and it will then overflow,
and that's where we see real problems. Now, if it's flashed properly,
it's sloped properly, you've got theproper amount of down spouts. The next

(06:03):
thing that has to be looked atis the extension where it comes away from
the house. That has to goout far enough and make sure that it
hits an area of your property thathas a negative or a positive grade,
meaning it's going away from your house, so it's not going to come out
and then come straight back to thehouse. Now, all of that has

(06:25):
to be in proper working order andthey have to not be clogged. Yeah,
so that's where gutter shutter comes intoplay. We're going to take a
look at all of that stuff, and our trained technicians who have been installing
this, I say for hundreds ofI have a technician who's been installing for
us since twenty eleven. He's installedover a million feet of gutter. He's

(06:47):
been there, done that, sceneit all. So now we're going to
take a properly flashed gutter. We'regoing to make sure that the gutter is
sloped properly. You're going to havethe proper amount of down spouts with proper
drainage away from your house, andwe're going to use gutter shutter and we
guarantee it will never clog. Sowhat do I mean by all of that

(07:08):
pure peace of mind? We canget a rain like we got Monday night.
There's absolutely nothing that anyone has toworry about. So that's that's peace
of mind. It's worth every pennythat it costs. It's pretty amazing too.
And you talk about and for folksthat don't know how deep this stuff
goes, hear Andrew talk about allthe different areas where things all have to

(07:31):
be done absolutely right and perfectly. For people who don't know, there's actually
many, many more. But todo a radio show on that, it
would be people be like, okay, all right, we get The cool
