Speaker 1 (00:12):
Hello, everyone, Gritty's in salutations, Welcome back to another episode
at the Back of the Pack podcast. I'm your host,
Kyle Walker. Thank you so much for tuning in. We
will get to race reviews another time. We have a
special guest today, and if you are in the Kansas
City area and you've run any races around here, whatsoever.
This is a guest that needs no introduction. We all
know her. Everyone, Welcome Katie to the show. Katie is
(00:34):
both a race ambassador, a pacer fellow runner. I don't
know what other titles do you want, Katie, Welcome to
the show. What else should we call you? I think
you wear all the hats in this area.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
I do as you mentioned a couple weeks ago, I'm
the future missus Katie Applegate because I'm not changing my name.
But I'm Cody's fiance. I know he's been on the
show as well.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
So indeed he said, well, yeah, see, we're just keeping
an all in the family. We had Cody. Now we
got to be fair, we gotta have Katie. It works
that way. Just please don't if you all have kids,
don't put a K on that name either.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
So we already have Cody and body and so I
don't know, Oh, there we go.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
Perfect. Perfect. See in my family, we were really smart.
We were Ken, Kathy and Kyle, so we were the KKK. Anyway, yeah,
that's how we start this episode. Everyone. So, Katie, you
have been an ambassador and a runner in this area
a long time. Why don't you give everyone just a
little bit of your running history, because now that people
are putting a name with the face, I'm sure they
have seen you at races, So kind of tell us
(01:37):
a little bit about your running journey thus far.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
Yeah. I ran my first five K in August of
twenty nineteen, and then I ran my first half marathon
that October with the KC Marathon, and I remember finishing
that and thinking to myself that I could never do
a half, Like do this all over again right now.
I was like, I'm not going to do a full. Well,
(02:01):
then I said I would never do it. Then I
had to prove that I could do it, So I
did my first full was supposed Weekend City, but then
this little tiny thing called COVID nineteen happened and kind
of shut the world down. And again I started running
in twenty nineteen, so it was all, oh.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Yeah, that's right. You did pick the wrong time to start,
didn't you.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
Yeah, I did, so that year it got turned into
virtual so I did run it virtually. I no longer
count that as my first marathon, but I did gobble
Grian a few weeks after that, and so that was
my first like in person marathon. And yeah, over the
past six years, I've run oh sixty eight halves maybe,
(02:46):
And two weeks from yesterday, I'll be running Berlin, which
I know you did last year, so that I did.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
I'm even wearing my German themed podcast for you in
honor of you. You're soon to be tripped to Berlin
and you're taking Cody with you. How excited are you
for the Berlin Marathon?
Speaker 2 (03:03):
Though, Hey, I am excited. I always get nervous because
I don't do a lot of my long runs alone.
I usually am running with friends and so it's a
lot of chatting and this one, while there will be
a lot of people there, I'm not running with anybody
that I know, and so that always makes me nervous
because I don't listen to music. I am one of
(03:23):
those freaks, as people say, I don't listen to anything
when I'm running, and so I will either have to
like be social and make friends with strangers or just
take it all in. But that's one thing I'm nervous
about is just doing it by myself.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
I think you're gonna do just fine taking it all in.
There's a lot to take in in that race. And
yet you will never at any point be alone because
I think, as I talked about, and Cody can confirm,
you are this close to another runner the entire time,
all twenty six point two miles. Yes, it never thins,
it never spreads out. It is the craziest thing that
(04:01):
you are still bumping into people you're getting near the
finish line. It's it's absolutely wild, but an incredible experience.
You guys are going to have an absolute blast. Uh.
Just know that Cody doesn't know what he's talking about
when he says, go this direction or go that direction. No,
I know this, Yeah, he will get you lost in Berlin.
Trust me, yes, ask me how I know? How do
(04:22):
you know? Yeah, a little trip I took last year
with that guy. Here you go. Jeez, all right, well
let's go to the other thing that you do. You
are also a pacer, and you are a very you
pace all the big races. How did you decide to
get into pacing? Since you haven't been in this game
all too terribly long twenty nineteen lost a year, maybe
year and a half due to COVID, how'd you get
(04:43):
in the pacing game?
Speaker 2 (04:44):
Yeah, it kind of started off as a way of
I am a single mom, not for much longer, not
for much longer. I know, I never know how to
like word that, because I'm just like, for the time being,
We'll say that I'm a single mom. And racing can
get expensive, yep, And I was doing a lot of
(05:06):
it and so brutal honesty. Part of getting into the
pacing game was just trying to find a way to
make racing.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
More affordable, right, No, that makes sense.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
And the more I started, I like it. I would
rather pace than race a run. I enjoy it. It's
a little bit more relaxed for me. It's a fun
experience for me, and I really I like it. So
if I get the opportunity to pace, the usually take it.
And so my first half was Casey and I ran
with the two forty pace group. Yeah, my first pacing
(05:39):
gig was I paced the two forty group at Casey
and so I felt like I it's like I came
full circle in that moment. Yeah, you did, and I've
just I've been doing it ever since.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
Well, in last year we all ran together at two
forty five. You know, you and Cody were still a
new ish thing. So I got to a run behind
you guys and listen to your flirt for thirteen point
one miles.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
He turned more with me, and I was trying to
just I had a job to do. But yes, you.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
Should have beat them with your pacer stick.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
Just so if anybody has run with me and pacing,
you should know. I have two rules that I started
with my son when he started doing five k's, and
that's we are always moving forward. I don't care what
pace we're doing, but we are moving forward. We're not
going to sit down. We're not going to stand still.
We're moving. The second rule is if it's a downhill,
(06:31):
we're going to run it. We never walk a downhill.
We let gravity help us out.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
That's right.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
Then. My third rule that I started when I'm pacing
is if you are going to be cocky and if
you are going to be like I'm not going to
run with you and start spurning ahead if I catch you,
I have permission to hit you with my pacer stick.
That's right, Yeah, that's that's the that's the rule. And
if you've run with me, you should know so.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
And I've seen her do it, I've soon or do
it because yeah, we did the two foty five last year,
now if I remember, and we're gonna totally name drop
and give her a hard time. Last year at Casey Marathon,
we started out you, Cody myself, and there was someone
else who then decided she was too good for us
and wanted to run away from us. Who is that again? No,
(07:16):
she seems to be your traveling buddy.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
I just spent the past three days with her, and
it would be one Alison Moore.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
You didn't catch her, so no, we didn't catch.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
You with a stick, but it was a threat that
was provided, and I think it motivated her to just
keep pushing right.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
Well, I don't want to get hit with the pacer
stick either. It just doesn't sound fun. Of course, I
also can't run off and leave anyone behind. It just
that's not how I run. Trust me, they're safe, the
stick is safe. We're all safe exactly if.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
You start running ahead, because you're feeling good and maybe
the racius doesn't go how you like. I will give
you some grace there. But if you just again get
that little like cocky boost to you and if I
catch you, I'll make sure.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
You know about it absolutely right. So the last pacing
gig I saw you do was Ottawa. Yes, all right,
So how did Ottawa go for you? There's been a
lot of a lot of chatter in the running world
around here lately about that Ottawa half marathon. What was
your opinion of the race?
Speaker 2 (08:21):
I thought it was good. So I actually ended up
running twenty miles that day as part of my Berlin training. Yeah,
so I did a mile and a half before the
race and then did the run and then ended with
twenty miles that day. So I thought it was okay.
I was not familiar with that trail and so signing
up for it and being like, oh, it's an Ottawa,
(08:43):
my first thought was the Loggerhead trail because that's what
I'm used to. And it was maybe a couple of
days before I actually looked at the map and I
was like, Oh, I was like, I actually don't know
where we're going. I feel like I have been pretty
well acclimated to the heat, and so that wasn't a
big thing for me. Yeah, it was, okay, it was.
(09:04):
I feel like there's kind of two types of races
around here, taking out trail races. But you either have
like the city races where you are seeing things, buildings, places,
there's people out on the course, or you're running a
trail in the woods with nothing around except trees and
the runners going the opposite way of you. So I
think there's pros and cons to both scenarios. I like
(09:28):
out and back courses personally because to turn around I
know exactly where I have to go. Sometimes when I'm
running in a city, especially if it's a new city,
You're like, I don't know where I'm at. I know
I need to go that way, but we're going this way,
and I'm.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
Just like, I don't know, he's just going to follow
the runner in front.
Speaker 2 (09:48):
Of me, exactly. So I like out and back courses
for that reason. Is I like knowing that as soon
as I turn around, I know exactly where I'm going
after that, But it does it gets little.
Speaker 1 (10:01):
Monotonous, just a little Did it throw you off though?
That the start line and finish line weren't technically the
same place, although it was an out and back course.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
No, And again I was going off of Cody's watch
because my watch I when I'm doing my training runs,
I don't like to break it up, and so I
wanted my watch to say twenty miles. Oh okay, So
technically I started the race out a mile and a
half already in and gotchah. Yeah. I was going off
of Cody's watch anyway, so it didn't throw me off
too much.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
Okay, so we're a little addicted to our Strava and
Garmin stats, are we? Is that what you're admitting now
to everyone?
Speaker 2 (10:38):
I don't get on Strava, and so for the record,
I apologize now for everyone that I don't give kudos
to or like comment and I always get emails of
like so and so liked your morning run, and I'm
just like cool. I don't get on Strava, So if
I've never liked your stuff, please don't be offended. It
(10:59):
is not an app that I I get on, and
same with Garman, like I will get on Garment and
poke around, but I don't use it as like a
social media tool. So I don't get on there and like,
look at who's running or walking or biking. I look
at my own stuff. But my plan is I'm putting
a clause together for all my like Berlin training runs,
(11:21):
and so I wanted to say, like twenty miles, and
that's the reason that I didn't want to break it up.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
Is okay, Well that would to.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
Make a cool little reel of all my runs.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
There you go. Well you know what, you little social
media influencer you that makes all the sense. Well, you
reached out because you had an idea for what's coming up.
So again it sounds like the garment can't see to
marathon is kind of like, that's your race. It was
a first, it was a welcome back, it was a
what a first full I mean, it was maybe a
(11:52):
pr I don't know you. You are very attached to
that race, and so you became an ambassador for that race.
So first off, tell the people who may not know
what exactly a race ambassador's duties are at kind of
your level of ambassadorship.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
Sure, so I think the main thing, and I've already
hit on this racing it's expensive, and so I think
the major perk that ambassadors have as we get codes
that we can share to our friends, family, social media
strangers to help get a discount, and so that's kind
(12:29):
of a big thing. I know, when I'm travel because
I like to travel a lot, I always go to
a races like Instagram page and then see tags and
you can always find ambassadors that way. So we give
out discount codes, which is probably the big thing. Kind
of the other thing too with ambassadors is we are runners,
(12:50):
and so we also like to do races, and we
like to have good races, and we like to make
sure that the races are running how us as runners
want things to go. And so I think one of
the big things for me too is I do have
a direct connection to the race, and so if there
are things that you're like, hey, I did this last
year and this was not so great, Like I want
(13:13):
that feedback. So that way, I'm like, yeah, it wasn't
so great, Like let me take that feedback, or you know,
I did this race here and I really liked how
they did X, y Z. Maybe that's something. And so
just getting that feedback of things that you like and
you don't like, or things that you've seen at other
races that we wish we could implement here just having
(13:33):
that connection as an ambassador, just to be able to
take that back to the race, Like, this is just
the feedback we're getting. So maybe things we can look at,
things we can change. And then yeah, just overall like
hyping up the race because I like big races. Maybe,
I mean, again, Berlin is gonna be big. I've done
Chicago where it's tight, but I've also done races where
(13:57):
there's fifty people and so uh having people show and again,
I like yan city. I've grown up here, I've lived
here my whole life and just having friends from different
states come to visit our city and it's always fun.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
So so you're saying the ambassadors have kind of like
a direct line of feedback to the race officials about
the races that they do. Yeah, yeah, no kidding, Oh
something that even I didn't know, which, I mean, the
things I don't know. That's a long list, but it's
good to know that you guys can kind of just
give them the feedback that they need. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:31):
So Jason Brown is kind of my connection with them.
He's over the ambassador program. He also he's with Casey
Sports Commission, so he does like Hospital Hill and stuff too,
and I actually met with him. Oh gosh, when was it.
I mean a couple months ago. We just sat down
at a Starbucks together, and you know, we kind of
(14:52):
talked just different things. We talked a lot about medals
and like me personally as a runner, like what I
like in the metal and what I don't like in
a and again, if you know me, I am a germophobe.
And so one of my big things is there's been
a couple of times I can't even think of a
specific race but we're volunteers instead of like pouring the
(15:15):
water or dunking the cups.
Speaker 1 (15:17):
And I know exactly what race we're talking about there,
but I won't name drop them, but I remember it well.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
Like I will not pick up that cup. I always
carry water on me. Hydration is important. I'm not saying,
go run a half marathon and like skip all the
water stops. So hydration is important. But that was one
of the things I'm like, I don't know if you
guys ever meet with volunteers or like if you do
a volunteer training, but this is something of like I
have noticed and it really kind of grosses me out.
(15:44):
So and he mentioned that he is doing like a
volunteer training and that I think it was Rock the Parkway.
He personally like went out and volunteered at a water
station some way he could experience what it was like.
So yeah, I sat with him for paly an hour
at that star us just kind of chatting about races
and what we like and what we don't like. But
I'm just one person, so I can give my personal
(16:06):
feedback and what I like might not be what you
like or the next person. So yeah, just getting feedback
from from you guys, from us as runners. That way
we can turn around and give it to the race.
I think it's super cool. That's how he can see
change as runners to things that we want or don't
want and have just a good race.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
No, that is cool. I honestly had no idea. Now
I know that tomorrow I'm gonna name drop. I'm actually
gonna sit down and be talking to the race director
for the garment can Sito, marathon O, our good friend
Dave who's been on the podcast before. We're going to
record a little something for future you shall we say,
is there anything that I need to tell head honcho
because I will while I make fun of them, But
(16:49):
if you have anything that I need to throw out there,
I'm happy to share with them.
Speaker 2 (16:53):
Yeah, I nothing right now. I think. I think the
last email that I have with Jason was asking him
about when the medals are going to drop, because again
as a runner, I care about medals. If you can
see my collection here, and so I just this morning
he emailed me back because I asked him medals we're
going to be released, because again as runners, as an ambassador,
(17:15):
I want to hype the race and I want to
hype the medals, and so September twenty second, the Case
Marathon medals will be released. He did say that he's
been to a few group runs and has kind of
brought some sneaks, but officially on social media. On the
twenty second is when the Case Marathon medals are going
(17:36):
to be dropped. So keep an eye out for that.
Speaker 1 (17:40):
Gonna have to see if he'll come out to the
Chasing Rabbits run club.
Speaker 2 (17:43):
There you go, I bet he would.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
I'll talk to him.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
He mentioned he was going to be I think can
least summit on Wednesday, which I again, I live on
the Missouri or the Cans side. I'm not as familiar
with the Missouri side, especially LEAs Summit, which even though
Cody lives in green Woods right bar, that's fine.
Speaker 1 (18:02):
Well, as a Kansas we do appreciate that you are
removing someone from Missouri bringing them over to the correct
side of the state line in Kansas. So Cody will
be a better person because of it. It takes a
little takes a little time to get those Missouri habits
out of them. Yeah, he'll eventually be okay, I have
no doubt about that.
Speaker 2 (18:19):
We do. We'll have to switch his license license plates over,
maybe get him a Kansas I D. But yes, we
will come come to the correct side of the state line.
Speaker 1 (18:32):
So as soon as he puts a Kansas license plate
on his truck, it increases in value. It's crazy how
that works.
Speaker 2 (18:37):
Out Johnson County. How crazy is it.
Speaker 1 (18:42):
It's so much fun to give him a hard time
when he's not here to fight back. So it's the best,
all right. So we were talking about maybe doing a
little bit of a contest right with your ambassadorship because
you want more people using your code. First off, tell
me what that code is. I know I'm going to
plaster it on this video where it gets releie so
people will see it, But what is the code to
(19:02):
use for the garment Kensity Marathon.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
Katie k CM all caps k A T.
Speaker 1 (19:07):
I E k CM Katie k c M all caps
will get you a discount on the race and then
gets you credit for your ambassadorship, which is you know,
always looks good, right of course, So what were you
thinking was you take this episode right here with Katie
on it, You're gonna share it. You're gonna like it,
and then you're gonna share it. And if you share it,
(19:29):
you are inter two win? Am I correct? What you
tell them? What are they gonna win?
Speaker 2 (19:34):
You want a free race for any for Kanasity Marathon,
so five K, ten K half or the full in
person or virtual. So I know you have some listeners
who are not local to k C. I think a
lot of listeners that aren't local to k C. And
so both my ambassador code for the discount and the
free race we're giving away are good for virtual races
(19:57):
as well. So awesome, good free race.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
And right now, with like a little over a month
until race day, their registration you know it it checks
up like ever of the race. It you know, increases
at certain times. So that's a heck of a deal
if you're gonna get free right now with what the
current registration costs are. But you gotta like it, you
gotta share it. You know, a comment will go a
long way as well.
Speaker 2 (20:18):
You can comment all of your friends that you want
to run with, and yeah, takes.
Speaker 1 (20:24):
Some people, yeah exactly, yeah, take some people because we're
gonna be running. You've got to run. But we talked
about Allison, how did it go to Disney last weekend?
You guys went out and did a Disney race? Am
I right?
Speaker 2 (20:34):
We did?
Speaker 1 (20:34):
We did three Disney races, so oh okay, well to
see this podcast is all about the race reviews. You
get to race review at Disney race because I didn't
do it, and go, okay.
Speaker 2 (20:43):
So we did the Disney Land which is in California.
Disney World is Florida, so we are in California. And
is there Halloween weekend? Which my it's September. I am
a summer girly. Okay, okay, it is still I have
I think twelve more days of summer before fall hits.
(21:05):
And I'm the kind of person like at my work
they are trying to put up like fall decors and
I'm like it cannot come near my desk because it
is summer. So I don't know why we're doing a
Halloween themed race in summer.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
But in early September.
Speaker 2 (21:24):
Early September. Yeah, but it's good. So I have actually
done both Disney World and Disneyland races. Okay, there's Frozen
constableth The thing that I like about Disneyland is they
have two parks that are very very close to each other,
where Disney World has more parks, but they're very spread out.
(21:47):
So the five K and the ten k you spent
a lot of time, Like most of the race was
through the park. The half the first six miles or
through the park and then the other The rest of
the race was on the streets of Anaheim, and so
it felt like a regular road race. I'm used to
road races. I'm used to running through city streets, and
(22:09):
that's what it was like. So I like that aspect
of it. In the parks, we got character stops, so
we stopped with Mickey and Minnie and Pluto and Chippendale
and so I grew up a Disney kid. I have
been going to Disney since I was a wee little thing,
so it's fun I dress up in costume.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
Yeah, I was gonna say, what were the costumes this year?
I know you did it. I saw the pictures.
Speaker 2 (22:35):
I did so again it was all villains themed, and
so I was Ezma from The Ever's New Groove and
I was in her scientist's outfit and I carried the
Lama potion cup. For the five K, I was Sid
from Toy Story, Yeah K, and I carried woody and
(22:55):
a magnifying glass. And so again, if you're a Disney
person out there, you would know that reference that Sid
was trying to burn. What are you with the magnifying glass?
And then for the half, I was a cast member
of the Haunted Mansion. That was which I don't feel
like that one. If you're not a Disney person, you're
(23:16):
not going to get that recognizable. So yes, the Disney
is very good about their theming, and so yes, the
cast members wear this kind of like made outfit and
they are very like somber, which I don't do very well.
But that was my half costume.
Speaker 1 (23:34):
So that's awesome. Now, what are you planning on for Berlin?
Speaker 2 (23:39):
I don't know yet and I leave in a week
and I haven't decided, so.
Speaker 1 (23:45):
You're not going with a theme or cossu. I'm just
gonna grab some handy dandy, trusty running gear that's going
in the suitcase. Yes, okay, all right, and you're gonna
make sure that Cody takes clothing as well, right, Yeah,
you might have to pack for him.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
Really last year I was told he took it back.
And I'm not that kind of traveler, Like I am
the kind of person where I need like double the
amount of underwear that I would like realistically wear, but
just the case, right, Like, yeah, I will have suitcase.
(24:19):
I will probably have two suitcases.
Speaker 1 (24:21):
And yeah, I had a backpack as my carry on.
Then I had my suitcase with all the important stuff
in it, except I did take I did put my
running shoes in my backpack carry on, yes, just in
case my luggage got lost or something as running shoes.
I could buy clothing. I could do all that stuff.
But fortunately for you, the old coaster there he went
(24:42):
through expo last year and knows about the debacle that
can be. Have you guys come up with a plan
yet for the Berlin Expo.
Speaker 3 (24:52):
So I have like my jacket and things like pre
ordered pre ordered, So I'm hoping that like, since that
parts out of the way, it'll go a little bit
more smooth.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
It's in a new location this year. I've never been
to Berlin, so I can't say that I know anything
about it. I just know it's in a different spot
that you guys went right, So yeah, I don't know
if it'll be like I'm assuming we'll stay together and
just deal with the hordes of people as a unit
rather than like him go one way and me go another.
(25:30):
I also the goal is to not spend my life
savings there.
Speaker 1 (25:34):
Which I yeah, that's not gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (25:36):
I know what race expos they always get.
Speaker 1 (25:38):
Me, especially World Marathon Major and Overseas Race. They had
some really cool stuff that cost that it should be.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
Yeah, again, I was just in Disneyland. I'm well aware
of the is that expo merch cost.
Speaker 1 (25:57):
So at least at least with Cody being there with you,
I'm pretty sure you could sell him to make sure
you had enough money for the swag and the merch
at the expo. There you go, You've got options.
Speaker 2 (26:09):
We'll figure it out. And my parents are going to
be there.
Speaker 1 (26:14):
Oh awesome.
Speaker 2 (26:14):
So we are going we leave Monday. We'll arrive on Tuesday,
like afternoon. We're actually flying to Poland first, and we're
gonna kind of pop around in Poland for a little bit, okay,
then we'll fly to Berlin. My parents are actually leaving
on Friday because they are also big travelers and they
(26:35):
have another really big overseas basically the entire month of October,
so they wanted to go, but they couldn't really be
there as long as we were, so they won't even
be there for the marathon, but they'll be there, okay.
And then on Monday, after the marathon, we're going to
go up to Copenhagen and we'll days in Copenhagen.
Speaker 1 (26:54):
Because he wants to see the castle.
Speaker 2 (26:58):
About the castle you talked about.
Speaker 1 (26:59):
The castle we wanted to take the train to see.
You guys will go see the castle and that'll be
so pretty Yes.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
My thing is is I don't know what I'll be
able to afford to go back to Europe, so while
i'm there, I might as well see what I can see.
Speaker 1 (27:14):
That's absolutely right.
Speaker 2 (27:15):
I don't know when the next time I will be
flying to Europe, so we're gonna knock out a couple
countries while we're there.
Speaker 1 (27:21):
Yep, no, you got to. You gotta do all the things.
Although I didn't even put myself in for this year's
Berlin Marathon because I went last year. I'm like, Okay,
once and I've done it. I can't explain to you
the fomo I have right now, because like, why didn't
I put myself back in? Why am I not going back?
I had so much fun last year. I want to
go do it again.
Speaker 2 (27:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (27:36):
No, no, I'll be sitting here waiting to hear all
about it from y'all.
Speaker 2 (27:40):
I am the kind of person where I love to travel.
I like to go to national parks. I like to
go race in other states. I have a really hard
time going back to the same place twice. Yeah, because
time and money, like it's a limited resource. And so
I'm like, I don't think I would ever like put
(28:02):
my name in for Chicago again. I ran the Chicago Marathon.
It's not something like there are other marathons that I
want to run.
Speaker 1 (28:09):
Yeah, but there's only six World Marathon Majors, well seven
now but really only six.
Speaker 2 (28:14):
So yeah, it's one of those like I don't want
to repeat any big races now, like des Moines. I'll
pop up there and do that one again, because that's
just a simple like overnight. But the ones where it's
like if I have to get on an airplane to
go there, I will probably only go there once and
be happy and satisfied, and I will probably not go
back there.
Speaker 1 (28:33):
You go, So what do you have come up after Berlin?
You got anything else? Well, I guess then we have
the garment. Can't say you have marathon anything else around
out your years.
Speaker 2 (28:44):
I get very lucky apparently when it comes to world
major marathon lotteries.
Speaker 1 (28:50):
Oh where are you going?
Speaker 2 (28:52):
Well, so I got unto Chicago lottery. I got them
through Berlin Lottery. Yeah, and I got the New York
Marathon virtual.
Speaker 1 (29:02):
Oh so you did the virtual to get the confirmed spot.
So you're going to New York.
Speaker 2 (29:07):
I will go to New York next year. Next year, okay,
I will be running Marine Corps, which I don't really
want to do, but I'm gonna do it anyways because
it happens to fall in that one week window and
Cody was always already going. So yes, I will be
in end of October going back to DC Virginia and
(29:27):
I'll do Marine Corps. Nice next year.
Speaker 1 (29:31):
Next year you get to go do New York. I
get to go do New York, which is so awesome.
I love that race so much. It is still my
a number one favorite full marathon ever.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
So yes, Tody ran last year as well, and so
I think I don't know if he's going to put
in for a lottery or if he's just gonna go
the fundraising route, but I know he wants to try
to do New York with me, So I'm going to
do it next year.
Speaker 1 (29:56):
People, and then you have someone to run with that
you gotta see if you can pay.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 1 (30:01):
Yeah, well I'll put myself in the lottery, and here's
hoping I can go back next here. But we'll see.
Speaker 2 (30:06):
I'll give to you the right.
Speaker 1 (30:11):
Sorry I had to cough there. I'll edit that out
so or I won't because a lot of times I
just leave it in because who cares If I'm ridiculous,
I don't. All right, Well, everyone, this is Katie Pacer
Ambassador Katie KCM. Right, Katie Katie kcm use that and
get signed up for the garment knsing to Marathon coming
(30:32):
up on October eighteenth, eighteenth. Yeah, pretty sure, that's right.
I will be down at the Expo Backupack Podcast. We'll
have a table there. So you've got ambassadors, you got pacers,
you got tables. So you run the race, you can
possibly get it for free, Like where's the downside in that?
So well, Katie, thank you so much for coming on
the podcast. Really appreciate it. I'm glad you found time
(30:52):
amongst all your running travels right now, geez, talk about
a busy season that you're in.
Speaker 2 (30:56):
Good window.
Speaker 1 (30:58):
So there we go. I'm glad we hit it. So
all right, Well that is going to do it for
another episode of the Back of the Back podcast. Or
thank you very much to Ambassador Pacer Katie for coming
on the show. We'll be back next week with another
another new episode. See there's my Goofy impersonation right there
for you, and you didn't even.
Speaker 2 (31:15):
Know that I'm back in Disneyland. It's great.
Speaker 1 (31:17):
There you go. So anyone, hey, everyone, have a safe
week of training and we will see you next week.
