(00:00):
What's up? Everyone? Welcome toanother edition of Tharn's thoughts. But I'm
Starren Chetty. These are my thoughts. I hope you guys are doing well.
Sitting in my car, I meanTampa. I'm doing Side Splitters tonight.
It's this club in Tampa. I'mopening from my friend Kurt Metzker,

(00:20):
who's in town, and I'm excitedwe're doing. It's a Thursday through Sunday
run. That's how most shows go, clubs go. I'm just hosting,
which is fine. I actually preferred, preferred because I can make an videotape

(00:40):
it put out clips and stuff. But it's really about your friends and contacts
in comedy. I mean, youcan be a good comic, but your
friends can open so many doors foryou. So luckily, I've been doing
comedy for a minute, and whenmy friends roll through to LA, I

(01:07):
try to take advantage of it andI message them and then they they're kind
enough to give me guest spots. But that's how it also works in LA.
Two people get famous, they pulltheir friends and their writing jobs.
I mean, I listened to thispodcast with David Spade Fly on the Wall,
and it sounds like all those guysfrom messing LL just pulled each other

(01:30):
in. From Dennis Miller, KevinNealon, David Spade, there was It's
a lot of networking and show base, which is what this is about.
You got a network on your freetime because that can just there's so many

(01:51):
comics in comedy, it's so oversaturated. How can anybody, How can anybody
tell who's funny who's not? Andthen now social media that adds more chaos.
So if you have a friend whohas some buzz, hopefully they'll pull

(02:12):
you along. I mean, ifyou really hit the motherload, one of
your friends gets famous and then theycan green light your stuff. I think,
I don't want to say for certain, but I'm pretty sure Amy Schumer
help out Nikki Glazer a lot.I mean, there's a lot of examples
of just comics helping other comics geton TV shows, and man, those
are game changers that can change yourlife, like dramatically change the course of

(02:34):
your life, your income, yourchildren's life because you can provide for them,
your wife. I mean, it'sa big deal. So for me,
I've been doing this so long.My only goal was to admit to
make it through the days. That'sit pretty much. If I can just
make it through the days and notkill myself, I'll be and that's a

(02:59):
win for me. That's a victory. And try to get a little better
in my writing and stand up everytime I perform, and enjoying my life
a little bit. I sit hereand I'm not I'm not depressed about this,
but like sometimes I'm like, man, I'm totally not married. I

(03:19):
have no kids. This is allby choice, by the way, this
is the design of my life.Where I was just did not want to
have a family or be in arelationship unless like I had everything kind of
set and I've always been kind ofbeen stable in comedy, so I've never
really pursued that in my life. And that's the sacrifice you have to determine,

(03:46):
Like what are you willing to payfor the life you want knowing that
you might not get the life youwant? And I'm okay with that.
In fact, I was watching thispodcast with Burt Christ who's huge comic auditoriums.
He was talking about how he travelsand like two tour buses and brings

(04:10):
his friends along. He's got likea twelve person production crew or something like
it's just insane. He's doing thehuge auditoriums, but I had his job
at the Boston Comedy Club like rightafter him. Like maybe there's a guy
between us, but like I wasa door guy like him, and that
guy blew up. I didn't blowup. I mean, you can make

(04:30):
the argument I wasn't funny. Thatprobably was the case. But I also
feel like you gotta get a breaktoo, right, Like you gotta be
funny and you gotta get a breakin life. So I'm not I'm not
crying sour milk, whatever that expressionis. I'm not mad about it,
but I've come to accept that it'skind of this fatalistic attitude, like whatever

(04:53):
is meant to be is meant tobe, because in my mind, I've
kind of given it my best. You know, made movies, web series,
acted and you know, I've showedup for opportunities, and now I'm
just grateful I can perform on stagebecause honestly, sometimes I go to open
mic still to try out jokes likenobody's I have a few Indian fans who

(05:14):
came out to see my shows, but nobody's breaking down my door. So
I've tried to just switch my attitudea little bit and be grateful for opportunities.
And this weekend, I'm especially gratefulto be working at an a club
with a friend of mine and Iget to do comedy, and that's something
which I wanted to do since Iwas eighteen. I went to a comedy

(05:38):
club and I sorry, this trafficoutside, but I went to a comedy
club and I saw somebody on stageand I was like, man, I've
got to learn how to do this, and here I am doing comedy.
So be careful what you wish for, because it might come true. I
hope you guys have a great day. We'll talk to Ston and take care
