Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ted Talks by Ted Swetzlers. It brought to you by
Paul Bunyan Communications providing fiber optic fast Internet up to
ten gigabytes. TV voiced it in their certified Apple Service center.
They're serving the Pamidgian Grand Rapids area since nineteen fifty two.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Ted Switzler back for another week of Ted Twins Talks
at tl Schwarz on Twitter Minnesota sportsfan dot Com. To
say that the Twins really haven't done anything or made
any headway over the last week is probably putting it
exactly correctly. They split in Seattle or I'm sorry at
(00:36):
home with the Mariners dropping the first two and then
picking up two wins to close out that series. It
looked like they were going to build a little momentum
going to Detroit and winning that first game, riding a
three game winning streak, and then immediately they dropped the
second game of that series by a score of ten
(00:57):
to five. Bailey Ober continues to look apps like a mess.
It's one thing for Minnesota to have to struggle through
losing Pablo Lopez and to a lesser extent, Debbie Matthews
from the starting rotation, but over the month of June,
they basically lost Bailey Ober as well. I mean he's
continued to pitch, but his er is now a balloon
(01:18):
to five to eight. This year, the velocity has been
a noticeable dip. They've tried to say that that has
to do with mechanical issues, which does make some semblance
of sense. I mean, he's a big guy that works
at the top of the zone, and his velocity is
always going to be a reflection of his extension and
his height and his reach and how quickly he can
(01:40):
get on a hitter. The problem is he's just dancing
through rain drops right now. Again against Detroit, he had
periods where it looked like he's cruising and then he
starts giving up home runs and just gets pounded in bunches.
Rocabaldelli really had no answers to go to either. I mean,
Ober was there into the sixth inning despite giving up
(02:02):
seven runs and eleven hits I mean four home runs.
A typical starter is yanked. But at this point, you know,
just depleting a bullpen every time he goes out is
not going to be a pausible or a possible way forward.
The Twins either need to figure out is this what
they have in him now going forward, which would be
(02:25):
absolutely a disaster, or put him on the IL and
get him right. Obviously, they don't have a ton of
options when it comes to depth. At this point, Andrew
Morris is already on the IL at tripa a Saint Paul.
That probably leaves like Randy Dobnak or a version of
Corey Lewis or Marko Riah who really have not been
themselves this year and haven't positioned themselves to make their debuts.
(02:49):
But at this point they can't continue running Bailey over
out there every five days hoping for different results when
nothing is indicating that that's coming. They then go to
Sunday Night baseball for the first time in I believe
it was five years on Sunday against the Tigers, and
that one was always gonna be an uphill battle. You're
facing Tark schoobl who's arguably the best pitcher on the planet,
(03:13):
reigning Cy Young. He absolutely carved the Twins up Minnesota,
managed just two hits, didn't score a run. Chris Paddock
was fine, he only gave up three runs, but again
another starter that just is dancing. He lasted just four
and two thirds innings. Gave up two homers. It's just
not a workable path, especially facing a guy like schoobl
(03:35):
who did tie a career high with thirteen strikeouts. He
gave up just a single hit and walked one, which,
funny enough, was Christian Vasquez, who has been a complete
non factor during almost the entirety of his Twins career.
Off day on Monday, the Twins finally send out Jonah Bride.
(03:57):
He'd been on the roster since early to make April
something like seventy days, provided almost zero value. He was
known probably more for the four pitching appearances that he
made and blowout games. Again, that's a spot that the
Twins probably could have used to a guy like Carson
McCusker or Ryan Fitzgerald or anyone with a pulse. Joanah
(04:20):
Bride really just brought nothing to the roster. That move
was made with the expectation that Royce Lewis will take
the roster spot. On Tuesday, he had injured his hamstring again.
I believe it was two weeks ago as of Monday,
so about he'll be coming back about sixteen or so days.
(04:42):
Went over eight on the rehab assignment with Saint Paul,
but he had been tearing it up in nine games,
I believe in June prior to the injury, so hopefully
that's a boost back to the lineup. It's Joe Ryan
starting in Miami for Game one. The Twins are in
Miami for three to close up the road trip before
coming home this weekend against Tampa Bay for the fourth
(05:06):
of July. Festivity is now four games below five hundred.
They really need to work on clying back if they
want to have any hope of being buyers at the
trade deadline. It's been way too much up and down
and now way too much stagnant production. So Twins have
a big week in front of them. We'll check back
last year
