Speaker 2 (00:15):
Ted Swetzler back with another Ted Talks Twins at TL
Schwarz on Twitter, Minnesota sportsfan dot Com. Kind of a
I guess, impromptu emergency recording here after the trade deadline
man Thursday will probably go down as one of the craziest,
(00:36):
potentially poorly remembered days in Minnesota Twins history. We've been
kind of building towards this situation for at least nine months,
if not longer. The pullouts put the team up for sale.
This ownership group is absolute garbage, have been for years.
(00:56):
There's been no doubt about that. If you were on
the fence, you were made very clear on Thursday where
your stands should be. This same ownership group tore down
the payroll and dialed back immediately after. The Twins won
their first playoff series since two thousand and four in
twenty twenty three, and things came to a head on
(01:18):
Thursday I mean, they had six impending free agents to deal.
The only one that did not go was Christian Vasquez.
Not sure how they couldn't find somebody to take on
a catcher if they were willing to eat salary like
they were. The big mover, obviously was Carlos Korea. They're
paying him thirty million dollars or they're paying the Astros
(01:41):
thirty million dollars to not have Korea. They get back
a twenty six year old non prospect with a seven
ERA at high A who was signed a month ago.
He will likely not be in the organization for much longer.
They did okay on the Juan Duran raid Eduardo Tayit
(02:02):
is a legitimate prospect. Mick Abel is a former top
one hundred prospect that could slot into the to the
rotation pretty quickly. I liked that deal. You really shouldn't
expect a whole lot for any of the impending free agents.
Chris Paddock, Harrison Bader, Willie Castro. None of those returns
are real needle movers. Bader goes to the Phillies with Duran,
(02:27):
Castro to the Cubs obviously, uh Paddock went a couple
of days ago or a couple days earlier to the Tigers,
but then it was just a complete push of controllable
guys as well. Griffin Jacks goes late to the Tampa
Bay Rays. Taj Bradley has been in the big leagues
(02:48):
for three years now, really hasn't made it work. He
is a younger guy, there's upside, former top one hundred prospect,
but I feel like they could have done better on
that one. Ty Franz and Louis varl That one is
the one that makes zero sense to dump ty France Fine,
he's an impending free agent at a million dollars, there
(03:09):
was no reason to keep him. But Louis Varlin is
under team control through twenty thirty, costs nothing and has
significant future upside while being a hometown product. To throw
him in a trade at the last minute and get okay, Yeah,
it's the Blue Jay's fifth best prospect. But they don't
(03:29):
have a good system. It just Derek Falvey did the
pole Eds bidding on Thursday, and then he defended it
in saying that they got any sort of logical reasonable return.
They got prospects, they got one or two that might
work out. They got a couple fringe major leaguers that
(03:52):
they bought low on to trade ten players from your
major league roster in one day. They replaced roughly thirty
eight percent of the twenty six man roster. They parted
out all five pieces or the five best pieces of
the bullpen. I mean, I have never seen a team
(04:13):
sell so substantially all at once, and they tried to
go further. The Twins were in discussions with the Boston
Red Sox for Joe Ryan. They weren't happy with that return.
But at this point, it doesn't look like this is
an ownership group that believes a sale is going to
happen right now. This is a situation where they will
(04:36):
save money immediately, they will pocket that money, and they
will continue to save money in the future. That means
this offseason, Joe Ryan, Pablo Lopez probably on the table.
Ryan doesn't cost anything right now, but will Pablo Lopez
is making around twenty five million dollars. It's going to
be Byron Buckson and a bunch of random pieces for
(05:01):
a while here, and that is beyond frustrating. Twins fans
should feel defeated. Target field deserves to be empty. The
front office should be held accountable. Ownership should be held
accountable just an unfathomly bad death
