Speaker 1 (00:00):
Is now time for Minnesota Golden Gophers after dark with
the Minnesota Sports Governor, Vince Right. Hey, what's going on everybody?
Vince Right, the sports governor. This is right on the
edge the Gophers after dark and what a first game.
Welcome back. It is now football season. Gophers with a

(00:21):
twenty three to ten win over the University of Buffalo.
And although early on there were definitely a lot of
highs a lot of lows, it just seemed like the Gophers,
you know, they were putting things together, they were moving
the ball, and they just kind of sputtered out and yeah,
I mean it was very interesting. You know, there was
only what was it a ten to three at halftime,

(00:44):
a lot of people in the stands that I noticed,
you know, a little little leery, little leery. But Gophers
came in the second half and what I liked most
was a Drake Lindsay and be the defense. So let's
talk about that real quick. Drake Lindsay nineteen to thirty five,
two hundred and ninety yards, two touchdowns, an interception, a
very fluke intersection that was kicked and the ball just

(01:09):
literally landed right in the Buffalo defender's bread basket and
by the way, was almost taken for a pick six,
and I think it was There's Taylor that got back
on the tackle there and saved that and held him
to a field goal. But Drake Lindsay, a really good
looking guy in the pocket, poised all that stuff, you know,

(01:32):
scrambled a little bit, a couple of scrambles didn't look
so good. But I really liked what I saw from
the Arkansas native. And I got to tell you something, man,
it was really nice to see that the Gophers let
him kind of air it out. You know. PJ has
a tendency, and especially in that first half because like
I said, they were putting together drives and they just

(01:53):
weren't getting in the end zone. Darius Taylor rushing for
your Minnesota Golden Gophers, had one hundred and forty one
years on thirty carries. AJ Turner had sixteen yards on
six carries. Cameron Davis got a couple of looks as well.
But the offensive line for Minnesota has to get better.

(02:14):
This is one thing that your sports governor was noticing
it because he was watching the game there from the seats.
That offensive line was a lot bigger than the Buffalo
defensive line, and for a lot of that game, they
just miss blocks, you know, protection issues the running game had,

(02:37):
you know, despite various Taylor's stats, you know, the running
game had some issues as well. So that's going to
get better. But it was really the offensive line. They
got to start finding a way to gel work together
and whatnot. There were a couple of times, you know,
Buffalo did get to Drake Lindsay, so again it was

(02:57):
just noticing. I was just noticing it because because like
I said, they were so much bigger than the Buffalo
defensive line yet didn't really seem to be kind of
moving the sticks and moving those players out the way.
So that was one thing there. The receivers, you know,
we got to see who really wants this gig. You know,
jameson Gears he had four receptions. He had a couple

(03:20):
of real nice ones early on. He had a couple
drops in the second half, kind of got those slippery
hands all of a sudden there. Jalen Smith had two receptions.
He had the big touchdown reception as well. Jameson Gears
had a touchdown. There's also a touchdown that was ruled
outside of the end zone, so you know, Gophers could
have been up thirty to ten. That would have looked

(03:42):
a lot better. But what I did like though, is
our defense. They were all over the place. Devon Williams,
Maverick Baranowski, Kerry Brown, Anthony Smith. They were all over
the place and looked really really good and did everything
you could have asked for them to do outside of
shutting out the University of Buffalo. But our defense, at

(04:04):
least game one, looks really really really good and you
gotta like how, you know, after losing so again, some
key players on the defensive side of the ball as well.
Our Minnesota Golden Gopher defense showed up as well, and
again led by Devin Williams. He had a big sack
as well. And you know the All American coy Perrich.

(04:28):
You know, they used him in return, he had a
twenty yard return. They used him on offense. They kind
of took him out real quick after he did get
his first reception there, and you know, got to keep
him healthy because he is such a talent obviously on
both sides of the ball, but especially on the defense
because he's leading the pack back there in that defensive

(04:49):
backfield as well. Other things that I noticed the Gophers.
You know again, let's talk about that running game. We
got to find a way to get that running game
going people. And you know, it took thirty carries one
hundred and forty one yards for Darius Taylor. Like I said,
but you know, game one, it'll figure out, it'll come together.

(05:11):
I did like that. You know, PJ. Fleck really just
he put it in Drake's hands. And I think Gopher
fans it's easy to say we got a you know,
good looking quarterback for the future here. I really he
just he seemed like he was a veteran, you know,
just stepping up making plays, made some really good passes,
a couple ill advised passes. But what I did like

(05:31):
about Drake Lindsay too, is you know, when we got
down towards the end zone, receiver wasn't there. He gave
the receiver a shot, but seemed to put the ball
in a place where an interception wasn't going to be
likely or the defense could get their hands on the
ball as well. So there you go. Game one in
a nutshell Gophers after dark with Vince Right, sports governor

(05:52):
right on the edge again. Twenty three to ten. Northwestern
State comes in next week FCS school who hasn't won
I think in like two two and a half years
something like that. So what we're looking for next week
is for the Gophers just to really bury these guys
in the first half, you know, just don't even make
it a game, because then you can give the younger

(06:12):
guys some playing time and get them some experience on
the field. So thanks for listening. Proud to be back
on the Beer Belly Sports Network. I am Vince Right
Gophers after Dark with Right on the Edge and that's me.
Keep listening throughout the season and we will keep bringing
you all the Gophers just news that you need. People.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
