Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, it's that time. We're that much closeer to
crowning a national champion. Here, welcome into the college football
edition of bet on It. We were down to four teams.
We are close. The question is either of these games
were't betting on? Who do we like for a national champion.
We're gonna preview it as we welcome in Kelly Stewart

(00:20):
in the house and Marco D'Angelo ready to roll here
on this semi final week. Let's start with the orange
ball right off the bat Thursday. Not too far down
the road for me. Here we are gonna be looking
at Notre Dame taking home Penn stay two and a
half now in some spots too, even In fact, in

(00:42):
a lot with Notre Dame saw the total get bet
down forty seven and a half down to about forty five. Now,
cal I agree with both moves. I think we all
got that. That is probably where this game was going
to go from the opening. Are you shocked Notre Dame
continues to get the money here in this spot almost

(01:06):
a field goal. I don't think it's going to get there,
but almost a field goal here in some spots.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
Now, of course, I'm not shocked.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
What did they just do they just beat an SEC team?

Speaker 4 (01:16):
Joe.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
It totally fits the narrative here.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
Listen, There's so many angles I could go in this game,
and ultimately I do agree with that under move, but
it almost feels too contrariant, Like almost we have these
two really smothering defenses that have showed out. Not only
do they just shut down the Heisman runner up, not
only do they just shut down the Georgia Bulldogs.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
It looks so.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
Easy to bet this under. I think the move is
probably the right side. I'm kind of in a conundrum
with this game, whether I'm actually going to get to
the window or whether I'm just gonna drive to South
Florida and join you in the Orange Bowl. I wish
I cared more about this game, because I think that
would be a really electric one to go to.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
Here's the reality.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
I think the Irish over the last ten to twelve
week weeks have quietly become one of the best teams
in football. And I do trust Marcus Freeman and I
trust James Franklin against inferior opponents, which is why I
laid eleven with Penn State last week. I just don't
know if I trust big game James Franklin here against

(02:17):
this Irish team. I got a lot more to unpack,
but we'll get Marco's opinion before we get into a
deeper dive.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
I agree, Marco, I've heard this too, and give me
your thoughts on it.

Speaker 4 (02:28):
Notre Dame a little less time to.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
Prep for this game here because Penn State was the
first game off the board right in the last series,
and they have a couple extra days rest. I don't know,
do you take that into consideration and you think it
matters one way or the other here?

Speaker 5 (02:46):
Well, obviously it's you know, one day advantage for that
one ended up being two days because the Notre Dame
game got moved because of what happened in New Orleans unfortunately.
But this is situation in. The one thing that I
will agree with Kelly on in her opening on this
game is Marcus Freeman. Yes, I definitely are going to

(03:07):
give him the edge coaching wise over James Franklin. And
why well, if you watch the Georgia game, he just
totally out coached Kirby not so Smart.

Speaker 4 (03:21):
What can you say?

Speaker 5 (03:22):
I mean, I don't know what Kirby Smart was trying
to do in that game. They had zero answer for
the Notre Dame defense and the play that they got
the team to jump off sides. I have seen I
don't know which I've seen more of this year, and
you generally never see it that often field goals and

(03:43):
extra points hitting the uprights this year, joinking them or
teams falling for teams faking going on fourth down and
jump off sides. It's been ridiculous that teams don't have
the discipline to do that. But you know what, Notre
Dame give them credit. And I think the market has
overreacted to the Georgia game because, as Kelly said, it

(04:06):
is an SEC team, But let's be realistic. Georgie's been
the class of the SEC. They're not just an SEC team.
They're the team that won two back to back national
championships and many people thought they would have won a third,
but they got left out of the dance. They didn't
make the top four. They were basically the fifth team,

(04:28):
odd man out, bubble boy, whatever you want, however you
want to look at it, and they never got a
chance to defend for a third one. Yes, or Notre
Dame looked good, but let's be honest, did Notre Dame
really beat Georgia or did Georgia beat themselves? The offensive
line for Georgia gave Gunner Stockton, who was a backup

(04:48):
quarterback but I thought would handle the situation. He never
got a chance to handle it. You can't throw when
you're running for your life on every passplay. That's not
going to happen this week. And the other thing I'm
gonna say is Notre Dame. If you look at the
box score, yeah they won this game, but how many
yards did Riley Leonard throw for? He was fifteen of

(05:12):
twenty four for ninety yards. All Right, I can't buy
into that. He's going against the best defense he is
going to have faced all year in Penn State. I
got me lining up on the Penn State side.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
Am I gonna be the only one to point out
a first half bat here? I mean, Jesus, you guys
gotta be kidding me here.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
Any other way.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
Joe, that's literally like your thing is you're the first
half guy.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
So we just let you have that.

Speaker 4 (05:45):
Listen.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
We talked last game Notre Dame and Georgia, and what
did I say? Georgia worst first half team in all
of the SEC. It wouldn't shock me if they were
losing at the break. Well, guess what they were losing
at the break there? Notre Dame in that final sixty
seconds of the first half was fantastic. And here we
go again. I think these are two of the best

(06:07):
defenses in the country. I don't know, and I'm with you,
cal I think it's it's gotten to the point now
where it was bet down from forty seven and a half.
I think it probably still drops to forty four forty
four and a half before kickoff here. I took the
first half under because I'm with you. I do think
Penn State possesses the big playability, which is ultimately what

(06:30):
might win this game for either team. But both defenses
I think coming into this one are really really good.
Both teams are gonna want to run the ball to
have any success. I would much rather take the under,
you know, the twenty one and a half, I think
twenty two right now in that first half and then
look to jump into that game because I'll tell you

(06:51):
right now, at forty five, if there is minimal just
a couple of field goals heading into the second half,
you're gonna have you self a middling opportunity if you
take the under forty five and this thing drops into
the thirties in game, where's it gonna land? What wins
this game? Twenty one, the first team to twenty four?
What wins this game? But I think the under is

(07:15):
definitely the right play. I like it even better early
in this game. Can't say the same thing about the
cotton ball people. The Cotton Bowl could be a totally
different animal all together here, And you don't have to
look much further than what the line is doing as
Ohio State. Now he's six point favorite. Just to tick
down from the open of fifty four, we're seeing fifty

(07:36):
three and a half, and I think people are even
on the fence with this one.

Speaker 4 (07:39):
Cal so many.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
Different ways to approach this one, but a total of
forty five versus a total of what is probably gonna
be closer to fifty five when it's all said and done,
these are two totally different games happening here.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
This is where it's hard for me.

Speaker 3 (07:56):
Right I mentioned the Penn State game. We can get
into a little bit further. You guys pretty much took
everything out of my mouth, so I didn't need to
further it. But I'm in all of these contests, Joe
and I've got some futures bets, so I'm kind of
just in this conundrum.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
So right now I've got for the last game. I'm
in some Splash Sports contests. Right now I'm in the money.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
I think I'm tied for third and one entry and
tied for seventh and the other. So what I want
to kind of do is be a little contrarian, and
that is taking Penn State there. And that's because, well,
my partner's in the Calcutta. The same guys that do
March Madness with me decided to do a college football
playoff Calcutta and they paid a egregious amount for the Irish,
and I was like, why are you.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
Guys doing that?

Speaker 3 (08:38):
So I kind of feel like I already have a
built in, you know, two way split, right, I'll be
happy for the Calcutta if Notre Dame wins, I'll be
happy in Splash as I'll be in first place if
Penn State wins. Hypothetically, this game is a little different,
and I talked about it with John Murray on Last Call.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
Now we saw this game get hit seven.

Speaker 3 (08:57):
For a very brief moment in time point, I probably
should have taken some points with Texas.

Speaker 2 (09:03):
Then it was six and a half six.

Speaker 3 (09:04):
Now we're seeing five and a half on the Odds
Logic screen, Oddslogic dot Com, Backslash Kelly and Vegas. If
you guys are looking for a free thirty day trial,
you're welcome.

Speaker 2 (09:13):
Get it now free through the Super Bowl.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
But the reality is, I don't know if I like
Texas enough to go for a middle So I have
plus two eighty to win or excuse me, to be
in the College Football Championship Playoff championship versus whomever, and
then I have plus five twenty five to win the
whole thing.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
So plus two to.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
Eighty versus a Texas Longhorn team that is not quite
that much on the money line.

Speaker 4 (09:38):
But close.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
I think I sit back and I relax.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
Then the other thing that pops in the back of
my mind is our good friend Chris Thurston that I
do the double down with here on the Wager Talking
YouTube channel. Sometimes you like to press and part of
me is like, all right, you've been the only one
that's been really high on Ohio State since they lost
that game to Michigan. You have bet Then the other
two g do you put your foot on the gas

(10:03):
and lay the six five and a half With the Buckeyes,
they have been so dominant, and that's what scares me.
They have been so dominant against Tennessee and Oregon, who was,
even though fraudulently the number one team. I mean, this
team has just cut the heads off their opponents so
quickly that there was no time for them to even try.

(10:24):
I mean, imagine being in that locker room during the
Rose Bowl, like, what do you say to your what
does Dan Lanning say to that team?

Speaker 2 (10:31):
Well, guys, it's been a fun season.

Speaker 3 (10:33):
My god, I think this is a really solid Texas
team that I've said all year long. I congratulated them
on winning the national championship after they beat Michigan and
I just got slaughtered for it. But the reality is,
and I've been saying this four months, Texas does not
have that kill mentality. They couldn't kill Arizona State. They

(10:54):
were ut fourteen nothing. I thought, all right, I was wrong.
Thirteen and a half of Arizona State on the money line.
What a joke, I am. And Arizona State had multiple
opportunities to win that game, whether it was the mistargeting call,
whether it was a missed field goal or going for
it on several fourth downs, whether it was in overtime,
Texas ended up prevailing. Man, I just don't trust this team.

(11:17):
I used to trust this defense. They looked exploitable. Cam
Scataboo ran all over and threw all over them. Jeremiah Smith, boy,
oh boy, he might be able to do the same.
Will Howard not even allowed on the stage during the
rose Ball ceremony. I'm telling you right now, I have
been high on Will Howard. I have been low on

(11:37):
Will Howard, whether it's this year at Ohio State or
in the last couple of seasons at Kansas State. But
you can't say that kid doesn't have heart and he
doesn't go out there and play his ass off. I
like the Buckeyes here, Joe. I think I sit back
and just relax.

Speaker 1 (11:53):
There's a lot to uncover with this Ohio State, especially
those of you like Kelly that might have a future
ticket on Ohio State, which we'll get into here, because
I know a number of people that do have tickets
on Ohio State to win it all in this line
becomes extremely interesting from that standpoint.

Speaker 4 (12:13):
But Marco, I mean, I think.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
We all knew the minute that Oregon got absolutely ass waxed.

Speaker 4 (12:20):
Can we say ass wax Okay, good.

Speaker 1 (12:23):
Ass waxed by Ohio State in the game, that there
was the value was going to be on Texas. The
question is is there enough value on Texas though? Is
it really not warranted from what we've seen over the
last couple of games from these two teams.

Speaker 5 (12:40):
Joe, I'm just trying to get that picture out of
my head of your ass in a speedo non Souard
beach in Miami. Okay, all right, let me regain myself here, Jesus.
First of all, I gotta address Kelly with her condundrum.
You don't have a problem.

Speaker 4 (13:01):
This is simple.

Speaker 5 (13:03):
You've got a team that can just win out right,
and you've got a team that you can get six
points with. Okay, take some profit, young lady. Always put
money in the bank. We have a saying in horse
racing when you have I don't.

Speaker 3 (13:18):
Have a way to guarantee profit unless I take Texas
on the money line.

Speaker 2 (13:24):
Like taking Texas plus.

Speaker 3 (13:25):
Six as a middle feels like if I'm gonna do it,
that's what I want to do. But I think Texas
is gonna get their doors blown off. I think this
is gonna be like forty two twenty four Marco. So
now I'm actually giving away profit.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
Do you see the issue at hand?

Speaker 5 (13:42):
Well, here here's my take on this game. Okay, let's
just hit the you know, time clock and back up
to the Michigan Ohio State game. All right, did suddenly
in the last two weeks Ryan Day become a national
championship coach in two weeks because we were all crucifying
him going into the Michigan game. He can't beat Michigan.

(14:06):
He's over his career at Ohio State against Michigan. He
hasn't won the big games when he's gotten into the playoffs.
So all of a sudden because he blew out Tennessee.
Oh wait a minute, let's talk about that. The SEC
was overrated this year and Tennessee had to go from
down south in late December and go play at Columbus

(14:32):
in the cold. Come on, they got beat up. Ohio
State played smash mouth football. Then once the running game
was working, the passing game was working, everything work, Tennessee
had no answers. All right, now we go to the
Rose Bowl, and yes, they demolished Oregon. But if you

(14:53):
remember when we talked about these Pac twelve teams going
to the Big Ten at the beginning of the season,
I said that I am curious to see how these
finesse teams of the Pac twelve that are all offense
and no defense and don't play physical football are going
to fare against the big boys in the Big Ten

(15:16):
physical style football. Well, Ohio State lost the first meeting,
but that was in Oregon, and the Ohio State team
got better as the season went on. I know it
was a good looking game. What do I tell you
guys all the time? No team is as good as
their best game, nor are they as bad as their
worst game. I did a show and I'm gonna pull

(15:38):
John Murray on you.

Speaker 4 (15:39):
Kelly.

Speaker 5 (15:39):
Every time I do the Friday radio show with him
at the West Gate, he always refers when he talks
to you. He brings up in the radio show your
friend Kelly in Vegas. Well, I'm gonna prefer it the
other way, Kelly, your friend John Murray at the west Gate.
When we opened up the lines Friday after the Thursday

(15:59):
games and all the lines were out for the final four,
I said to them, I understand the Notre Dame line
that's where I figured it would be. But I said,
I have this Ohio State game at four four and
a half tops. I did not expect it to come
out at the six six and a half. And that,
to me is an overreaction from the one game Texas.

(16:21):
We said it all along, or I said it all
along when they went from the Big Twelve moving to
the SEC. I said, this team is built to be
able to handle SEC football. The Big twelve always was
like the Pac twelve. Offense, offense, offense, no defense. This

(16:42):
team was built to win a championship, not only in
the SEC.

Speaker 3 (16:46):
I have to ask, wait, I'm gonna interject here, then,
why does Texas only have one more Big Twelve championship
than Kansas State University? If they're so built to be
this dominant football team they had twenty plus years.

Speaker 2 (17:01):
And only won four of them.

Speaker 4 (17:05):
There was a Kansas State at some point. There had
to be.

Speaker 2 (17:13):
He did on the SEC for all I care.

Speaker 3 (17:15):
Then Texas, former Big twelve member who only won four
championships now is the only SEC team left and they
still what did they do in the SEC championship game?

Speaker 2 (17:26):
Oh? Wait, they lost it.

Speaker 3 (17:28):
Their kicker lost it, their quarterback lost it to a
backup kid who couldn't do anything against Notre Dame. I'm
telling you, this Texas team, with all of their money,
with all of their five stars, with all of their
Bitley's and rolls Royces, cannot buy themselves a national championship.

Speaker 2 (17:45):
And you know how they're gonna get to the national championship.
Guess what.

Speaker 3 (17:48):
Will Howard has played Texas in his career three times.

Speaker 2 (17:52):
Look at that record.

Speaker 3 (17:54):
Don't think he didn't think about that miscall last game
in Austin there headed into overtime.

Speaker 2 (17:59):
Don't think that he does not know how to.

Speaker 3 (18:02):
Beat this Texas team. It is all part of the plan,
Ohio State. I'm telling you, Marco, don't get suckered into
the value, the value that all that Texas oil money
has bought you.

Speaker 5 (18:17):
Okay, all right, well we shall see.

Speaker 4 (18:19):
We're going head to head on this one.

Speaker 5 (18:21):
I've got Texas and I can't wait till I get
to talk to John Murray this Friday.

Speaker 1 (18:27):
Yes, yes, this is going to be extremely interesting. I
will say this though. Okay, one thing about your conundrum here,
Hedging is for gardeners, and I don't see a weed
whacker in your hand.

Speaker 4 (18:42):
So I'll tell you what.

Speaker 1 (18:44):
Last I checked, Ohio State push all in.

Speaker 4 (18:47):
They're going to run them out of the Cotton Ball.

Speaker 1 (18:51):
And by the way, this idea that the Cotton Bowl
is going to be just overtaken. I've been to the
Red River shootout and Texas fans were outnumbered by oh
youu fans cal every year, every year, not even close.

Speaker 3 (19:09):
I'm done that narrative that. That was the very first
thing somebody said to me on social media. I said,
what are you guys talking about? Ohio State fans just
packed the damn Rose Bowl and the ones who can't
afford to go to that are going to go to
the National Championship and the ones that have big bucks
are going you know, yeah, well we already know where
they're going.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
That's the real reality here.

Speaker 3 (19:27):
Yes, Texas fans have money, Yes they'll pay to go,
but that's not a fun, exotic location.

Speaker 2 (19:31):
And oh, by the way, guess who's getting snow this week? Dallas,
freaking Texas.

Speaker 3 (19:38):
Oh boy, but it's still going to be cold, and
Texas people are going to be scared to drive on
the roads. They're gonna say, oh, we're gonna sit back
and all of their arrogance.

Speaker 2 (19:47):
We're going to the national championship. Will wait till next
two weeks?

Speaker 4 (19:52):
Yeah, Ohio State fans like a bad rash. Mark.

Speaker 1 (19:55):
You can't get rid of them no matter what kind
of ointment you put on. We're back to the ass
waxing again, Marco. Let me ask you this, though, Mark
are real quick. Is there a correlation with total inside
do you think in this game?

Speaker 4 (20:09):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (20:10):
Obviously, if you like Texas, you're gonna lean to the under.
If you like Ohio State, you're gonna you're gonna lean
to the over in this game because you're gonna expect
Ohio State with that wide receiver corps to have the
success and exploit Texas. And if they get that quick
lead like they did on Oregon, then the other team's
gotta play catch up and then you're gonna have a

(20:30):
faster pace.

Speaker 4 (20:32):
And the one thing that I'll.

Speaker 5 (20:33):
Say that Ryan Day has learned he didn't take his
foot off the gas. So whether that was Chip Kelly
in his ear or whatever. Uh, we'll see. I still waiting,
you know, we we bad mouth James Franklin. I'm sorry.
Ryan Day hasn't won the championship yet either, and until
he does I am not confident about him.

Speaker 4 (20:56):
On the sidelines.

Speaker 5 (20:58):
And you saw his buddy Chip Kelly took the sword
for him after the Michigan game. He said that was
on him with his game plan. And then all of
a sudden, they come out throw in the next two
games all over the field, and everything's hunky dory now
in Ohio State.

Speaker 4 (21:13):
I'm not fine, Joe. I'm gonna say, Joe, I'm gonna.

Speaker 2 (21:16):
Hijack the host here for a minute. And I know
we're going way long on this game. People going to the.

Speaker 3 (21:20):
Penn State notre Eda mean the great, great analysis guys,
but here's the reality. I have a question, Marco, give
me your best out of the four coaches in these
two final games. Give me your best who's the best
coaches and who are the best offensive cordators? Because if
you say Chip Kelly's not the best offensive coordinator out
of the four, we're gonna have We're gonna have some
fighting words and all that falling on the sword.

Speaker 2 (21:41):
Whatever.

Speaker 3 (21:42):
We know he's got the Will Howard has the best
offensive coordinator in the country. I will bash Ryan Day.
I will even give sark the this much this much
of the U of the better.

Speaker 2 (21:54):
Coach than Ryan Day, But who the hell is Steve Sarkazy?
And give me a break.

Speaker 5 (21:59):
Marcus Free is the best of the four remaining coaches.
That's clear in Chip Kelly. Yeah, he scores a lot
of points. Why has he been in with so many teams?

Speaker 4 (22:10):
Why? Why Kelly? Why has he been everywhere?

Speaker 2 (22:17):
Maybe he likes to chase money. I don't know.

Speaker 3 (22:20):
He's definitely not a head coach, but I shouldn't say
he's not a head coach. He's just fared well as
an offensive quarter. I think that is his bread and butter,
versus trying to do too much as a head coach.
I don't know the guy personally, right, so I don't
know what he was like in Oregon, or what he
was like at UCLA, or what he was even like
in the NFL. But what I can tell you is

(22:41):
that certain people thrive in certain environments. And I've said
this about Will Howard all season long. He needs to
be put in a box. And you know who put
him in that box. After realizing his limitations in that
Michigan game, Chip Kelly, he has now put him in. Okay, Well,
this is what you're doing. You have three of the
best wide receivers in college football. On that Ohio State team,

(23:04):
you have one of the best running backs in college football.
On that Ohio State team, you have a very solid defense.
I mean, we talk about all the money.

Speaker 2 (23:12):
That Texas spent, Holy.

Speaker 3 (23:14):
Cow, I mean, Ohio State bought themselves this national championship.

Speaker 2 (23:19):
If it so.

Speaker 3 (23:21):
Happens to be that way, I mean, they're they're the
odds on favor for a reason.

Speaker 1 (23:26):
It's anybody the least bit concerned with what we've gotten
from the Texas defense the last couple of games that
have gotten I mean, this was supposedly the you know,
the top five defense, one of the best defenses in
the SEC, and I watched Clemson and club that just
absolutely light them up there passing the ball. And then

(23:49):
what did we just witness in the fourth quarter against
against Arizona State. I mean, single handedly, the only guy
in the building that could have beat you.

Speaker 4 (23:58):
You allowed to almost beat you. I mean, that's what
that Texas defense did. Isn't that a little concerning?

Speaker 3 (24:03):
Count Michael Taffy and Malik Muhammad, both of those guys
got hurt during that game.

Speaker 2 (24:11):
Yes they returned.

Speaker 3 (24:12):
I don't see any reason why they're not going to
play in this game, but keep that in mind. When
two of the best Texas players are that banged up,
they have to leave a game. I don't know if
you're betting on this Texas better defense plus the points here.
I think now that we're no longer an SEC play,
we may need to alter some of those statistics.

Speaker 4 (24:32):
How is the SEC done in Bowl games this year? MARKA?
How are they has that working out for them? Yeah?
Not well?

Speaker 1 (24:41):
People the SEC say it with me over rated? Here
people over rated. The only difference is there's twenty five
Big ten teams and thirty SEC teams. So eventually we're
going to get down to an Ohio an Ohio State
and or Oregon situation. But it's Ohio State this year.
Before we get out of here, guys, what is do

(25:03):
you think what makes the best college football National Championship game?
Marco Notre Dame Penn State? What's the matchup we all want?

Speaker 5 (25:14):
The situation is the committee is absolutely a static because
it doesn't matter what combination, whatever the dice goes up here,
you're going to get two traditional powerhouses with you know,
traditional followings then travel well, it's going to be a
ratings bonanza. And for being the first year we complained

(25:37):
about the seedings and the way that they put these
teams in and filled out the bracket. But at the
end of the day, guys, you can't argue with the
four teams that ended up here in the final four.
I mean, if we would have had this four going
in under the old format, would anybody really have complained?

Speaker 4 (25:56):
Would there have been a.

Speaker 5 (25:57):
Single who would have gotten left out that would have made.

Speaker 4 (26:00):
The case for it? Yeah, exactly correct.

Speaker 1 (26:02):
You got the best teams playing for it and boil
boys should be an interesting one. And don't forget right now,

four percent college football game of the week, and then
there's a couple NFL games that I do like. With
the playoffs, I haven't loaded our packages yet, but by
the time you're probably watching this video, they will beloaded.
