Speaker 1 (00:02):
You're listening to Beyond the Cheaters, the Detective Gometz Files,
and now here he is Detective gomet Welcome to an
episode of Beyond Cheers, the Detective Buildings files on your house,
Detective Builments, you know. And they were gonna be talking
about romance scams and how they can affect you in
(00:25):
your pocketbook, in your mindset. You know. I resentally had
a client just recently that lost ten thousand dollars to
a woman he had met on the internet, and she
was texting him, had a phone number, seven photos and
(00:46):
addresses where she was living at, and he had a
Ready Center brand. Then inside something was fishy because she
would never actually pick up the phone and talk to him.
And that's when he started getting suspicious ten thousand dollars
into it. But still I got at suspicious context me
(01:07):
I find out who the girl is. She's not who
she says she is. She's just another photo on the internet.
So the reason why I talk about this today because
it's just your money. Your money. You're working hard and
(01:27):
you can't afford to just give it away almost much.
You got money like that, but most people don't have
money like that. They all might used to drop to
somebody who needs mine gives them ten thousand dollars over
a period of time. But I think the other part
is also the mindset. You know, you're looking for love.
(01:49):
Everybody's looking for love. Everbody wants to be lovedbody wants
to have somebody that they can say that they have. Now,
this woman had promised to come see I want to
come see you. I need the money to come see you.
I need to pay my bills, you know, I love you,
and these type of things, and this it just didn't happen.
(02:11):
It just didn't happen. I really feel sorry for him
because he was at a point where you know, he
was he was loving her. But I look and I
was able to establish it there was no person. And uh,
she kind doubted me for a little bit first, but
uh that this is a guy. You know, this is
(02:32):
a guy and going through this, But I said, I
investigate her promer's license. It wasn't real. And then doing
like a Google reverse image on her and found out
she had multiple identities. Just a classic romance scam using
stolen images to the lure of victims. And she he
actually sent her She sent him three photos and then
(02:55):
I did the Google search and said some of the
photos that came up. So what point is you're going
to do this? You definitely need to watch out your
money and who you're sending it to. There's nothing wrong
with investigating somebody you love, but you've got to at
(03:16):
the end of the day, think about where you're sending
money to. Once you press that button, sometimes there's no return.
The FBI has a thousand cases like this, and sometimes
they catch the people, sometimes sometimes they don't. But you've
got to start thinking about where you're sending your money
to and who you're sending money and who you're sending
(03:37):
money to. You know, the background check is not going
to cost you much. You'll save you a lot of heartache.
Do you hear about these stories all the time? Now,
I'll tell you another client just recently who was ficting
the senate guy who was in the army fourteen thousand dollars. Well,
I'm going alone because she was in loves got fourteen
(03:58):
grand and she contacted me and I'm verified that he
was not a real person. So you've got to do
your homework, ladies and gentlemen, men and women, you got
to do your homework. You love somebody, you want something tangible,
you can feel, something you can hold, you know, And
(04:19):
even sometimes those are just as bad because they're going
to take you to the cleaners too. But at least
you can say you got I kissed her once or whatever.
But you want to make sure somebody solid and if
it's not, then you've got to stay away and you
got to be smart. Or if you've got a friend
that's talking to somebody, tell them, hey, by the way,
this is not a real person. Come on, you can't
(04:41):
be alone with some guy in Eastern Europe. It's not possible.
There are some long distantial relationships at work and some
that don't. But at the end of the day, not
many work given them on locally, even in the United States.
And this this actually happened. You know, this guy towards
the San Francisco Bay area, I met a girl in Dallas, Texas,
(05:06):
and of course I'm announcing. He wanted to verify she
was in Dallas, and she went an Dallas or Ivy
didn't check out nothing checked out. Voneman didn't check out nothing.
She had a Google number, which is quite a lot popular,
and a lot of people get Google numbers that have
fake profiles. So I'm doing podcast today just so you
(05:29):
tell your friends, tell your boyfriend's girlfriends. If you're at
home right now listening to this, think about it. Think
about who this person really is and if they are
who they say they are, Because that they're not, you're
starting to sindema your heart earned money. It could end
(05:49):
up being you know, a person that's completely fake. Remember that.
I want to give you a couple of takeaways here
about this particular podcast as we're talking about romance scams.
First thing I'd like to say you need, always need
to do is verify identities. Conduct a thorough background check
and reverse image searches to confirm persons actually real. Do it,
(06:14):
do it first, phone numbers check, check all these things.
So the first thing is verify identities. Number two, be
cautious with money. Never send money of someone you haven't
met in person. Repeat that, never send money to someone
you know someone you haven't met in person. Scammers often
(06:36):
fabricate emergencies to exploit the generosity. I just got arrested,
or we had a family member this, I just lost
my job and things like that. Okay, Like I said,
number two, be cautious with their money and number three
recognized recognized red flags. Be wary of individuals who avoid
personal content, they have inconsistent stories or requests finding angel assistance.
(07:02):
You know when you say a one time, recognize the
red flags when you see them, don't be just recognize them.
They're there right and he's snapping me in the face.
Recognize them. I'll say this. You know, we live in
a digital age. It's crucial to your homework before falling
in love and sending money. If you need assistance, I'm
(07:23):
one about to help you do a background check for
you and hopefully prevent you from being scammed. But these
guys are good. These guys are good. Like I said,
if I can help you, let me know the size

someone to love sort of life savings and are just
