These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should

(00:22):
not be caused to stumble. They shall put you out
of the synagogues. Yea the hour cometh that whosoever killeth
you shall think that he offereth service unto God. And
these things will they do because they have not known
the Father nor me. But these things have I spoken
unto you, that when their hour is come, ye may
remember them how that I told you. And these things

(00:45):
I said not unto you from the beginning, because I
was with you. But now I go unto Him that
sent me. And none of you asketh me. Whither goest thou.
Because I have spoken these things unto you, sorrow hath
filled your heart. Nevertheless, I tell you the truth. It
is expedient for you that I go away, For if
I go not away, the comforter will not come unto you.

(01:08):
But if I go, I will send him unto you,
and he, when he is come, will convict the world
in respect of sin and of righteousness, and of judgment
of sin, because they believe not on me, of righteousness,
because I go to the Father, and ye behold me
no more of judgment, because the prince of this world
hath been judged. I have yet many things to say

(01:31):
unto you, but ye cannot bear them. Now. Howbeit, when
he the Spirit of truth, is come, he shall guide
you into all the truth. For he shall not speak
from himself. But what things soever he shall hear, these
shall he speak, and he shall declare unto you the
things that are to come. He shall glorify me, for
he shall take of mine and shall declare it unto

(01:54):
you all things whatsoever the Father hath are mine. Therefore
said I, that he taketh tho mine, and shall declare
it unto you a little while, and ye behold me
no more, and again a little while, and ye shall
see me. Some of his disciples therefore said one to another,
what is this that he saith unto us a little while,

(02:14):
and ye behold me not, And again a little while,
and ye shall see me. And because I go to
the Father. They said, therefore, what is this that he saith?
A little while we know not what he saith. Jesus
perceived that they were desirous to ask him, and he
said unto them, do ye inquire among yourselves concerning this

(02:34):
that I said, a little while, and ye behold me not,
and again a little while, and ye shall see me. Verily, Verily,
I say unto you that ye shall weep and lament,
but the world shall rejoice. Ye shall be sorrowful, but
your sorrow shall be turned into joy. A woman when
she is in travail, hath sorrow because her hour is come.

(02:54):
But when she is delivered of the child, she remembereth
no more the anguish for the jewel that a man
is born into the world. And ye therefore now have sorrow.
But I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice,
and your joy no one taketh away from you. And
in that day ye shall ask me no question. Verily, verily,

(03:16):
I say unto you, if ye shall ask anything of
the Father, he will give it you in my name.
Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name? Ask and
ye shall receive, that your joy may be made full.
These things have I spoken unto you in dark sayings.
The hour cometh when I shall no more speak unto

(03:36):
you in dark sayings, but shall tell you plainly of
the Father. In that day ye shall ask in my name.
And I say not unto you that I will pray
the Father for you, For the Father himself loveth you,
because ye have loved me and have believed that I
came forth from the Father. I came out from the Father,

(03:57):
and am come into the world again. I leave the
world and go into the Father. His disciples say, lo,
now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no dark saying. Now
know we that thou knowest all things, and needest not
that any man should ask thee. By this we believe

(04:17):
that thou camest forth from God. Jesus answered them, Do
he now believe? Behold the hour cometh. Yea is come
that ye shall be scattered every man to his own
and shall leave me alone. And yet I am not alone,
because the Father is with me. These things have I
spoken unto you, that in me ye may have peace,

(04:39):
and the world ye have tribulation. But be of good cheer.
I have overcome the world. End of Chapter sixteen.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
