With the encouragement of the Holy Spirit (Acts 4:29–31), they follow through on Jesus' orders. The priests and other Sadducees will learn that no amount of threats or even persecution will stop them. The Pharisee Gamaliel will counsel that if this movement is from God, nothing the Sanhedrin does will stop it (Acts 5:34–39). He says these words to calm the council so they don't commit mass murder. There's no indication he ever realizes he is right.

(00:00):
So today we're going to be readingActs chapter five, verse twenty. Go
stand and speak to the people inthis temple the whole message of this life.
So the apostle just got locked upquite frankly. They were preaching the
message of Jesus Christ. So thisis not too many days after Jesus has
extended into heaven. So everyone thathas basically lived at this time really had

(00:24):
firsthand knowledge, firsthand experience with JesusChrist. So therefore the message that Jesus
Christ preached was not popular anymore. You know. In fact, the religious
leaders, the Pharisee, the Saducis, absolutely hated Jesus Christ, and they
hated the disciples because they preached thename of Jesus Christ, the one who
they crucified. So they locked upthe apostle, they released them. This

(00:49):
is pretty early on after Pentecost. They released the apostles and told them sternly,
the Word of God says not topreach in the name of Jesus Christ.
So with the apostles do after beingwarned sternly and being threatened that if
they preach in the name of JesusChrist, they're going to face a harsher
punishment. Well, the apostles, when they got released, they went to

(01:11):
preach Jesus Christ. Okay, sohe said, go stand and speak to
the people in the temple the wholemessage of this life. So after being
warned not to speak, the Lordtold them to speak. You know,
we face this. You know todayman will tell you not to say nothing

(01:34):
about Jesus Christ. The man willtell you leave Jesus oide of it.
Praying God, you know, prayingthe name of God. You know,
leave Jesus side of it. Jesusain't real. Jesus ain't this. Don't
Jesus is an offense. Don't sayJesus. Let's leave Jesus out of it.
But God is saying, proclaim myname. My name is the name
in which every name will bow andevery tongue will confess. My name is

(01:57):
what is in the name of whicheverything will be accomplished. Every demon will
be cast out by the name ofJesus. It is in my name that
there is power. So Jesus says, go and stand in the temple and
proclaim this message of life. Brothersand sisters. If we listen to what

(02:20):
the world says, and the worldhas a big loud, big fat mouth.
Okay, they have a lot ofpower, so to speak. They
have power to throw you in theprison, have lawsuits, probably even kill
you or persecute you. But Godis telling us to go and proclaim this
message. Just because the world don'twant you to say Jesus doesn't mean that

(02:44):
you have to listen. If Godsays say Jesus, then we say Jesus
as his true followers. And wedon't need to fear what man may do
to us, what man may say, what man may think about us.
We have a right, a privilege, and are to proclaim the name of
Jesus Christ, and no matter ifwe get locked up or ridiculed for it,

(03:06):
we must, like He told theapostles when they were released from jail,
to go into the temple and proclaimthe message of life. We shouldn't
fear what man may do to us. The word of God declares that we
must fear him who's able to throwboth body and soul in hell. That's
God. Don't fear man, FearGod, Brothers and sisters, again,

(03:30):
we have this privilege to proclaim JesusChrist, and our personal lives, and
our work lives, and our professionallives doesn't matter. We must proclaim and
live out the name of Jesus Christin our lives that people can see the
light around us and we point themto God, who is our savior.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
