In this verse David calls upon his soul to praise the Lord wholeheartedly because of the benefits He bestows. David is cautious not to be thankless or casual about everything God has done for him. He cautions his soul to "forget not all [God's] benefits." The word "benefits" suggests gracious dealings.

(00:00):
So today we're gonna be reading Psalmchapter one h three, Verse two,
Bless the Lord or my soul, and forget none of his benefits. Okay,
So that word benefits kind of gotto me, right, you know,
in today's age. You know, probably even back in the day before
any of us were ever thought of, benefits have been something that humans strife

(00:26):
for. Right. We're always kindof looking out for our best interests and
what we can kind of gain fromthat experience or any experience that we undergo.
But I see this a lot,at least in my lifetime as far
as the church. You know, some some people that attend church really just
kind of go there for selfish gain, right, whether it be for like

(00:51):
a sense of family, for asense of belonging, for perhaps money,
notoriety, popular larity, power, things like that. But I understand that
not a lot of people. Somepeople don't go there for that. Some
people really have a heart for God. Some people really do want to know
more about Him and how to livethis Christian life as He has design for

(01:15):
us to live. So I wantto implore you that the benefits that this
psalm is referring to is the benefitsof knowing God. It's not the benefits
that He necessarily gives to us,not the benefits that we acquire, you
know, by going to church everySunday. No, the benefits of knowing
God are peace, joy, love, righteousness. It is acceptance, is

(01:40):
security, is safety. These arethe things and many many more. These
are the benefits that are two God'schildren. And we must worship the Lord
because all the benefits that He givesto us just by knowing him. By
knowing him, you know, weought to start seeking the gift giver instead

(02:02):
of the gift from the giver. It's not in our interests to acquire the
world but lose our soul. It'snot in our best interests to acquire all
that we can acquire but not evenknow God. Don't you want to know
the one who is the gift oflife instead of the gift of life.

(02:24):
God is life. We must knowhim before really even celebrating what he has
given. God is so gracious towardsus all and none of us deserve any
good coming from his hands, anygood coming from his mouth. He would
hold his wrath from us because weare covered by the blood of Christ.

(02:47):
He gives us what we don't deservethrough acts of grace, but as his
sisters. These are the benefits ofknowing God and his son. These are
the benefits that we must thank himfor, that we must seek, that
we must praise him for and worshiphim for. Not what we can gain

(03:10):
in this world. Nothing is greaterthan knowing God. To know God is
to experience life eternally. Getting toknow God for who he is is an
experience unlike anything else. You wouldtrade that for any type of earthly wealth,

(03:31):
because nothing compares to it. Brothersand sisters, let us seek God
for who he is and the benefitshe gives us by knowing him, and
not seek what his hand provides us. He said, seek Hee first,
the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all of these things will be

(03:53):
added unto us everything that we arein need of, our hearts, desires,
All of that will come. Butwe god to seek God first.
We have to seek him, andhe says that He is a rewarder of
those who diligently seek him. Letus praise his name because of who he
is, and never forsake praising andworshiping him, because there is no one

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
