This verse must be read carefully and in the context of this chapter to be understood correctly. Paul is not saying that God contains any foolishness or weakness, at all. Instead, he has taught why so many people reject the idea of a crucified Christ as weak and foolish. Pagan religions, in particular, would call a deity "weak" if it could be killed on a cross like any common criminal or political dissenter.

(00:00):
So today we're gonna be reading FirstCorinthians, chapter one, verse twenty five,
because the foolishness of God is wiserthan men, and the weakness of
God is stronger than men. Okay, So Paul outlines something I think is
very very important in versus preceding this, he was talking about how the name
of Jesus Christ and the word ofJesus Christ is a stumbling block to Jews

(00:24):
and foolishness to Greeks. So wegot to understand this. It's a stumbling
block for Jews because they don't believein Jesus Christ. You know, that
name Jesus trips stuff up every time. It's a stumbling block. They can't
get past their own pious religiosity. You know, it's remains a stumbling block

(00:45):
to this day. But one daythey will accept Jesus Christ. But as
of now, they don't, andit's a stumbling block for them and keeping
them from inheriting salvation. And it'sfoolishness to Greeks because they are the more
intellectual types, right, they havehighly emphasized philosophies, teachings, intelligence above

(01:07):
a lot of things. So foolishnessJesus Christ is foolish to the intellectual.
You know, we kind of seethis a little bit now today. You
know, you have scholars and philosophersand quite frankly know it all who believe
the name of Jesus is foolish becausewhy would you believe in someone that doesn't

(01:27):
exist, or why would you believein someone that you can't see. You
know, it's foolish to them andfor us as Christians, we know that
Christ exists because we have the HolySpirit living inside of us, constantly testifying
and proving that the words of ChristJesus is true. Jesus promised the Holy
Spirit to come when he has tendedback onto the right hand of the throne

(01:49):
of God. And we as Christiansknow that word is true because we actually
possess the Holy Spirit in our lives. And to the Jews is a stumbling
black because they don't believe in thename of Jesus Christ. They don't believe
that he is the son of God. They don't believe he is God.
But we, as true followers ofChrist, have the truth inside of us.
So Paul talks about in verse twentyfive, because the foolishness. So

(02:14):
he's kind of like doing like alittle play own words. Here, he's
kind of telling him about the foolishnessof their own thoughts, quite frankly,
for those who don't believe in Jesus. He said, the foolishness of God
is wiser than men. If Godwere to even have any type of foolishness
in him, this is what Paulsaying. If he is to have any
type of foolishness in him, theneven God's foolishness is wiser than men.

(02:42):
That's powerful, and he says, and the weakness. If God was to
be weak, his weakness is stillstronger than man. So who God is,
and he's infinite and eternally him,no matter what he possesses, it's
always going to be that much greaterthan man, no matter no matter how

(03:07):
wise man thinks he is, orhow powerful or strong he thinks he is.
The weakness of God is will alwaysbe stronger than man. And there's
no weakness in God. There's nostrength depleted in God. God remains eternally
who he is. Okay, neverto go up, never to go down.

(03:29):
He is eternally God, and inhis eternal state he will always be
greater than man. Foolishness that theGreeks think of Jesus, and the stumbling
block that Jesus presents. I guessfor the Jews, all these things we
should not be tripped up over. You know, God uses the simplicity of

(03:50):
life to confound those who believe theyare wise brothers and sisters. The gospel
mestres is simple. Contrary to whatpeople think or say, the gospel message
is simple. We need a savior. The Gospel is good news, and
there will not be good news ifthere wasn't first bad news. The bad

(04:11):
news is because we have transgress holy, righteous God, we face the wrath
of God. The wrath of Godis no joke, and it's recorded in
the Book of Revelation. We havethe wrath of God abiding on us.
But the good news is that wedon't have to face the wrath of God.
If you believe in Jesus Christ tobe the son of God and that
God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. The Word of

(04:33):
God says, those who call onthe name of the Lord will be saved.
This is the good news. Thisis unfortunately a stumbling block for Jews.
In foolishness to Greece but don't letit be a stumbling block for you.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
