How do believers overcome the world? Verse 5 gives a more direct explanation: by believing in Jesus as the Son of God. Here in verse 4, John simply refers to "faith" as our victory.

(00:00):
So today we're going to be readingMark chapter eight, verse thirty eight.
For whoever is ashamed of me andmy words in this adulterous and sinful generation,
the son of Man will also beashamed of him when he comes into
the glory of his Father with theHoly angels. So this is pretty straightforward.
I am going a little off scriptbecause this is the verse that means

(00:21):
a lot to me. I thinkit really just speaks volumes to not only
where I am in my life,in my walk with the Lord, but
also the culture around us. Youknow, as Christians, we are called
to a higher standard. We arecalled not to so much be perfect,
because it's impossible as we're in thisbody of sin. But we are called

(00:41):
to be holy, and that meansto live life separated from the world,
to live sanctified for the purposes inthe glory of God. The call is
that we must tell others about JesusChrist. We must spread his message of
hope, messages of life and ofthe Kingdom of God. That will require

(01:04):
us not to be ashamed of thismessage, that will require us to deny
ourselves. For Jesus Christ said himselfand of previous verse in the same chapter
of Mark eight that who desires tocome after him or be his disciples must
first deny themselves. There's no wayyou can live life, the crucified life

(01:26):
in Jesus Christ if you don't denyyourself first denying yourself as an act of
refusing your personal rights, your desires, and yielding them to God through the
person of Jesus Christ. Now thisis not something that you can that can

(01:46):
be done necessarily on your own.You know, the Holy Spirit really helps
in these times. But if youexpect to have one hundred percent of God
by giving only fifty percent of yourself, then you can expect the you can
expect the results to yield at leastor at most fifty percent. If you
don't give God one hundred percent, you will not have that return to you.

(02:10):
Sometimes, actually maybe a lot oftimes, we want all of God
by only giving a little of ourselves. God gave us all that he possibly
could give us to the person ofJesus Christ, and if we are to
live holy in life for him,we must give him all of us by
denying ourselves. Some people, andI can attest to this in my personal

(02:34):
walk with the Lord early on thatI was ashamed. I was embarrassed.
I was uncertain, I was timid, I was afraid. I feared what
man may do to me. Iwas ashamed of the words of Jesus Christ
and of seeing his name. AndI'm so ashamed that you say that today.
But I have to be honest. And when I read Mark chapter eight,

(02:58):
verse thirty eight, when said, for those who are ashamed of me
and my words, which is theBible, and this adulterous and sinful generation,
then he will be ashamed of uswhen he comes into the glory of
his father, brothers and sisters. There's nothing to be ashamed of when it

(03:19):
comes to proclaim in Jesus Christ andhis word. We must be ashamed of
our sin and not ashamed of JesusChrist, who is our savior from that
sin. That's sin that we displayedand committed, all to embarrass us to
the degree that we don't even wantto talk about it. But that's what

(03:42):
we boast about. Right, wemust boast about Jesus Christ, our savior,
and all that he has done forus we might. We must not
be ashamed of him or his word, but proclaim him. For I am
not ashamed of the Gospel of JesusChrist. For it is the Gospel of
Jesus Christ, is the power ofGod unto salvation. And it's also the

(04:06):
righteousness of God. Brothers and sistersin the sinful and wicked, adulterous generation.
Let us not be ashamed of JesusChrist or of his word, but
body proclaim through the power of theHoly Spirit, Him and Him alone,
and walk in truth, walk inlove, that God may be glorified in

(04:28):
it. Thanks for watching. Pleasebe sure to like and subscribe to this

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
