Well that, yeah, so this is why it's an academic
paper at a grad level. Right, So you have to
write an abstract, which kind of gives you an overview
of what the paper's about, then an introduction then you know.
So it's a lot there. And I wasn't sure in
the abstract because some of the stuff I made more
first person later in the paper, but the abstract I

didn't know whether to refer to myself as originally I
said the author. Then I'm like the practitioner. I'll call
it the practitioner. I like it better than the author.
So I would have called my dad to ask this question.

where it's all coming from. So I called my friend,

I just said and he didn't answer. So I'm like,
when the fuck do I call? I gotta get this
paper done, and I don't. So I called my sister. Yeah,
she's got a PhD. She has a PhD and she's
a linguist. But I didn't think of her first. So
then later I'm talking to my mother and she goes,
he didn't think of me. I was waiting for.

My sister said, do it like third person say, and
refer to yourself as the practitioner and not not the author. Okay,
I know this sounds boring. So it was. It's an
academic paper. So I kind of went through and I
tightened it up and it was very academic. No real
me in the paper, right, really went through even using words.

I found like a word the practic. I'm going to
throw this word in there, lotus and uh. And then
I said to Jamie, go go gadget the saurus. Jamison,

finish this first. So then he says to yeah, no.

So then he said to me, I'm going to go
for I'm going to go for a walk. And I go, no,
you're not. I haven't read my paper yet. So now
he's pissed off and he sits down and he reads
the paper. He really read it. It was probably like
he probably did eight of the ten pages twelve whatever
they finished up to me. So he said, uh. He goes,

I like some of the parts where we talked about
you guys with the other stuff. He's like, I don't know,
just it's like cutting paste and what do you mean
cutting paste? He's like, I don't know. Like you took
a lot of the ideas from the sources and things.
He goes, it's fine, he goes, it's just kinda so
I so wait. So that really stuck with me, and

I mean he just kind of was giving you like
a real thing. He read it, he could, he read
back to me, knew the theories I was talking about and
all this stuff.

So it's like when you read the acknowledgments in the
back of the paper, like you know, Cisco and Eber
two thumbs up, James and Moran, tenth grader in Fairport
High School two thumbs down.

So I sent it then to my mother and she's like, oh,
I think it's great. It's so good. But it was
all very act pandemic, and I'm like, you know what,
I'm going to go through back to my because I
got instinct to get my third draft, which was more
me and I. That's the paper. I reworked some of
it and did some things, and about even ten forty

It came from a number I do not have in
my context, and not a number or an area code
that I'm familiar with. However, there are people that I call,
like my friend Ellie does not have a five eighty
five area on her phone, so if she wasn't in

different area code. So yeah, this comes up a different
area code and it says are you at home for
the day? Weird time too, because it came in at like,
I don't even know.

wrote right. So then they responded to that and it said,
now this is this was kind of strange to me.

I hope you will forgive me for being a careless woman.

So I went, all right, I'm done. I'm not answering this,
not answering this at all, and I let it go.
And then at about ten fifteen, I got to have
a great day. My name is Madeline, what's your name?
And I didn't responds.

Matter of fact that I've actually had something like this happened.
I just stopped responding.

This is not I guarantee, it's not maddling. And there's
no woman I would know that will go forgive me
for being a careless woman, unless unless it's like nineteen

And the scams are getting more elaborate, so I.

I don't do no, I haven't done it for years,
and I'll tell you what I have cut back. It's
cut back on all my robocalls.

I have not done it either, and yet now for
some reason, because some of them will come up five
five and stuff. Occasionally I will answer, but the text
I don't know what compelled me to go. I think
I thought it was a wrong number of texts and

thought I could have fun with it. That's kind of
what I thought, because my dumb head goes to, oh,
this could be fun. Here's a nice distraction. These scams
are known as their text scams. It's called smishing. Smishing
yes because what sms? Yes, I didn't know it was smishing.

You don't see those FBI commercials.

What the fuck are you watching? No? I'm just saying
I'm the watch Family guy, which is not all the time.

It's on Oh gosh, it's on several different channels like
Comedy Central. Whatnot? Have you been to become a victim
of smishing? Smish concludes.

At all, I had never heard of smishing. So and then, yeah,
scammers master numbers to look like they're from a local
area or familiar company. They didn't do that. It was
a four to one six area code. I'm not even
sure where that is. Social engineering, taxis or scammers build
a friendly, believable dialogue to lower your guard, tricking you
into giving up personal information, clicking malicious links for malware,

or sending money, often impersonating trusted context. Then I read
later Danny like, I was like, I went down this
rabbit hole of scams that are being used, and I'm like,
scammers says, use friendly, informal language and even apologize to
seem legit right. Forgive me, what was it? I'm a dumb.

Broad, I'm a dumbant dits of a desperate woman or
dumb and dumb woman.

Or yeah, I don't know, forgive me for being a.

I mean, I got a phone call from about a
month and a half ago. Sitting on the couch, I
get a call from It says not Verizon Wireless but
Verizon Cellular.

I'm like, huh, oh, is this about the phone? Yeah?
Did you answer it?

Speaker 3 (14:56):
Yeah? I answered the call over and it turns out
that it was basically a scam. Somebody's trying to buy
a phone using my naming it on a firm card,
which I later like, reached out to Verizon and Affirm
and got it all taken care of and wiped out. Okay,
but you know, the point is is that there are
scams out there all that. That's why I just don't

answer the phone if I don't recognize number, I don't
respond to a text that I don't recognize the number,
none of that. Yes, she said, it's twenty twenty five.
If I don't know you what, you have no reason
to call me.

And then now they're getting into where they can hijack
a text thread. They can. I don't know how it happens,
said Conversation hijacking is another form of scamming. It's when
a scammer inserts fake malicious messages into an existing legitimate

text thread like a bank alert or delivery update okay,
to trick you into thinking it's real, making you share
info or click a fishing to steal your data or money,
leveraging the trust from real conversation. It's like, holy shit, man,
it's getting Yeah. Many of these people use their brains

this is what they people don't realize. Eventually you're going
to be found out one way or another because you
have to keep moving the shell, keep moving the the
