Speaker 1 (00:00):
Year after a victory then as well. But plenty of
things to go over in this game, some positive obviously,
some negative as well. We will to all of that
today on the program. You can call us up or
text us at seven zero one four seven six sixteen
sixty against seven zero one four seven six sixteen sixty.
Call our text us there. You can also email in
(00:20):
studio at Bison sixteen sixty dot com. You can email
us to your thoughts there or even on the Beison
sixteen sixty Facebook and Twitter. We do have a post
up just asking you for your thoughts. You can comment there.
We'll get through as many of those as we can
tonight over the next a little while here at Applebee's
as the Bison Gotta Win thirty eight thirty five will
also go over our player of the game. I got
(00:42):
a sneaky good one for you. I feel like in
this game, at least as a person of the game
or a person on endusu's staff, of the game for you.
I think we'll get into that a little bit later
and our thoughts on some other scores from around the
valley and college football as a Week three is just
about to wrap up. First off, let's jump over to
the phone lines. He was with us before we even
(01:03):
came on air tonight. He was waiting his turn in line.
It's the icon with us in Fargo icon. How are
you doing, sir? Has your heart slowed down after that
victory yet?
Speaker 2 (01:13):
Well?
Speaker 3 (01:14):
You know I had where I was watching the game
at They said, sir, I think your heart is beating
out of your chest and I'm like, yeah, help me
push it back yet? But yeah, this that was an
awesome win. But I'll tell you what, I just have
a couple of points. First off, you know, I know
I've talked about this before and you guys are probably
thinking I'm a broken record, But how great is cam Miller?
The fact that you know, all the other great quarterbacks
(01:36):
over the last several years was an understudy for the
quarterback that they proceeded as we do. Cam Miller didn't
really have that because Trey Lance went on to the NFL.
I mean, how poises this young man with what he
does and the in the game that'st question wanted. The
other thing is I never really get to talk about
this much, but I say that our special teams today
(01:59):
had a lead every I mean, I know we missed
one field goal, but the fact that we got the
on site kick at the end, we uh, what was it,
like fifty two yards? It would have been good from
sixty yards. That's my of the point. When is the
last time you ever see the special teams have a
complete game like this? All hang up, listen, guys, we'll
talk to you next week.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
Thanks, yeah, thank you. I kind of appreciate the call.
Others can wait in line here too, call us up
seven zero, one, four, seven, six, sixteen to six. You
will tackle that kind of in three parts. Yes, I
think it's another game. You can point to him be like,
thank goodness we've got Cam Miller, and I think thank
goodness seven is back that he was your player watch
he was in this game. You all the credit on
(02:42):
this one, Jake.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
Yeah, I know, like like you said icon about the
you know, the fact that Cam didn't really have that
guy to kind of show him the roast. I think
it's a testament to coach Hedberg. Obviously, he's the one
in the QB room. He's the leader of that room,
and I.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
Think we've gone over bestly a whole new coaching STA
have since Cam came in too. So he's been the
one constant's been Randy exactly. And you know, I think
just the leadership in the fight Cam has. I think
that's led him to be successful without maybe having that
older guy to be under his tutelage.
Speaker 5 (03:05):
And stuff like that.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
It's good word, another word.
Speaker 5 (03:08):
Another word.
Speaker 4 (03:09):
Yeah, but uh yeah, No, Cam's been awesome. And obviously
to have a quarterback like that in a game like
this like that's when it shows to have a fifth
year quarterback that's pretty much seen it all to keep
the guys together and keep the guys you know, hey,
we're still in this fight. We're still in this fight.
And then obviously we come out come out with the
win late in the fourth. But yeah, that was awesome
to see from Cam, and you know he's gonna have
to keep doing that this year.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
I've said about Cam Miller for a couple of years,
and I love that you brought this up icon quite
quite frankly that you know, Cam Miller should have like
a thirty for thirty done in his career because when
he comes in, it's COVID right then you have Trey Lance.
You think he's gonna be here for a couple of years.
In a way, I'm playing over for that guy, right,
Walter Payton Warris freshman year, all that stuff, didn't throw
an interception. Well, then not only does COVID happen, but
all of a sudden, Trey is like, oh, he might
(03:47):
go to the NFL, like kind of out of nowhere,
and he goes and he's gone, and you basically got
to be under him for one game, that random fall
game against Central Arkansas that no one really knew what
was happening. It was an empty Fargo Dome. And then
the spring comes around and didn't start right away zeb
no one started, but Cam came in and started games.
Towards the end of that season, starts a playoff game
there you lose against Sam Houston as well, and let's
(04:08):
go back to the very next fall. You know, a
couple of months after that, well, Quincy Patterson comes in
and kind of takes the job from a moment and
won the job in fall camp. But all of a sudden,
Quincy Patterson takes that job. Cam's not the starter, and
in an era where everybody leaves, you don't win a job,
I'm gone immediately see out the door. Cam said, Nope,
I didn't win it. I'm upset about that or disappointed
(04:28):
about that myself. But I'm gonna support Quincy. I'm gona
support this team. I'm gonna stay here and be the backup.
Little did we know, three or four games into the season,
whatever it was against Missouri State, Quincy has an injury.
Also performance wise, wasn't playing the best and Cam comes
in wins that game against Missouri State. Man goes the
rest of the way and has had a crazy up
and down career ever since then. He has had a
very unique career.
Speaker 4 (04:50):
Ye And then to go on to your second part
of that about the special teams, you know, those are
the guys like when we talk about an unsung hero.
You know, you rarely hear about the special teams in
a good game. In a bad game, you hear about
him all the time. Right, But like you said, I
kind of a game like this, you know, the on
side kick from Steiny. We haven't had an on side
kick recovered since it was a two thousand and two
five against UC Davis. I was in kindergarten a long
(05:11):
time ago. But uh, yeah, no, it was awesome to see,
you know, a complete game.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
Fifth grade or fifth grade.
Speaker 5 (05:16):
Yeah, we're opposite of aging ourselves, show how young we are.
Speaker 6 (05:19):
No.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
But and then to have a weapon like eli oasick
you know, you know when you get around the forty
thirty five, you know, to feel confident you can have
a kicker that one can make it and two if
he misses it, it's not going to be short and give
the defensive chance to return it too, because he's got
the leg power to get it out of the back
of the end zone. So yeah, good game for the specialists,
good game for gammeling.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
We mentioned that today while we were watching the game.
Jacer're like, look, it's kind of cool, like once you
cross the forty to be like you're.
Speaker 5 (05:41):
In rain, we're in range.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
Sure, we're very close. It doesn't have to be like
I get to the thirty have a chance, you know.
And at the FCS level especially, that is like it's
a true weapon, yeap. Not many teams have a kicker
like that in the entire country. So to have someone
that can do that and you can line him up
from fifty to fifty two. We saw fifty four today
and feel confident about it. And he attempted a fifty
six and he had the leg it just he hooked it.
(06:04):
To have someone that you have the confidence and can
make those is a true weapon. Because he makes a
fifty four yarder. There's three points that you almost every
year would not be getting, right, how many points we
went by, three thirty eight, thirty five. Those are three
some big kick, massive points by Eli Oazac that aren't
under the pressure of a last second kick. But you know,
every point matters the same in the end, so that
(06:25):
was a huge one by Eli. I will say, you know,
to the special team side a little up and down
because Steiny did kick some punts into the end zone
that were short punts that when you're you're punting from
midfield or right around there, that's got to be inside
the ten right and got to be close to it,
can't be into the end zone.
Speaker 5 (06:41):
And Sonny knows that.
Speaker 4 (06:41):
I mean, he's an All Conference, All American level punter,
and I'm sure he's a hard on himself. Obviously getting
more coverage team too, but getting the onsid I'm sure
that makes it a little bit sweeter at the end
of the game.
Speaker 5 (06:50):
But you know, he knows and he'll he'll be better
next week.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
And then he did recover it. But for the second week,
John Gores did drop a punt right and both times
he's been able to pick it up once he returned
it for sixty seven yard return or whatever. And this
time he out muscled like five ETSU players to get
on it. I have no idea how, but he did.
So it hasn't, you know, come back to bite him
too much. But that's got to get cleaned up as well.
In the special team set.
Speaker 4 (07:11):
Yeah, i'd have to imagine if you if we see it,
he's gotta stop doing that, right.
Speaker 5 (07:17):
He knows it, yeah, and he knows that.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
But yeah, but now I can practice this week. I
cantine it's gonna be there more of a competition for
that because I think John was kind of the guy
coming end of the year and we've seen obviously he's
had a big return already this year. But you drop
a couple and competition will come. I think Jackson Williams
looks like a pretty good returners with a law to
speed as a freshman, so I might be some competition
for that returning job. And because of the on site
(07:39):
kick recovery and the work and the field goal unit there.
Early shout out to Joe Bashana, first year Special teams
coordinator this year. That was kind of an off season thing,
like Grant told him to become a defensive coordinator. Who's
the special teams coordinator? They didn't know right in spring ball.
They were gonna kind of wait it out, wait and
see approach to it. And then after a spring ball was
done they named Joe Bishana. I believe that was the
(07:59):
timeline of him. You come on the special teams coordinator
and give him some credit.
Speaker 5 (08:02):
Yeh, you're doing a great job.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
First five, we've recovered an onside kick. Not many on
side kicks we've had obviously in that time. Is didn't
need them in most of the games we needed tonight
and they got a huge recovery. NYSU wins it thirty
eight thirty five over Etsu. They improved it two to
one on the season. We'll take a break, we'll come
back and some more phone calls we'll get to when
we come back on the other side here on Bison Hotline.

Back with you here on Bison sixteen sixties we get
ready to get hotline back there with you. We've got
some technical difficult guilties are going on right now.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
Is think we're with you.
Speaker 19 (13:24):
Ian, here we go. We got Andy back with you and.
Speaker 1 (13:27):
Yes we're back. We're back boys. We got it. We
figured it out. Technical difficulties aside, can't stop us. They
wanted us to stop talking about this great come from
behind victory for NDSU, but they can't stop us now.
Thirty eight thirty five, NDSU gets the win over Etsu
big thanks to Ian long Tech Nick Brendan m back
in our Bison Studios, our Bison Sports Studios tonight helping
(13:49):
us out there coming back from break. But hopefully you
heard of Greek cam Miller highlight there as NDYSU gets
that late touchdown. They trailed for the vast majority of
this game, Jake, and they were down at half time.
They had you know, didn't convert in a fourth down
and they were down by twelve points with about four
minutes left. NDSU Football is already tweeted out the graphic
the the e your percented chance of winning thing that
(14:13):
they have for every game that goes on throughout the
game had him at the ninety eight point one percent
chance that Etsu was gonna win this game at that
point with four minutes left, Etsu ball binds him down
by twelve points. They find a way to win though
thirty eight thirty five. That's all that matters, and that
cam Miller touched at the end a huge play by
number seven.
Speaker 5 (14:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (14:33):
You know, obviously I wasn't there on the sideline today
and at East Tennessee State, but I would have to imagine.
You know, one thing that is really cool, obviously my
six years at NDSU, just when you get down in
the game, just because we're so used to winning, right,
you like you never think you're out of it. There's always, hey,
we'll come back and win this game. And right, obviously
sometimes you don't come back and win it, but just
that mindset on the sideline of like, hey, like defense
(14:54):
is gonna find a way get to stop offense is
gonna get a touchdown, Like we're gonna we'll find a
way to win this game. And obviously today they're able
to make enough plays down down the stretch to get
that win. But had just an awesome one from the guys.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
At thirty eight thirty five. I'll ask you more about
what maybe going on with the team and just a
little bit. Let's go back though to the phone lines
right now. We've got Milt in Atlanta given us a call. Milt.
How you doing, sir?
Speaker 20 (15:15):
Hey, Well, I live within three different cities, Atlanta in Minneapolis.
Speaker 21 (15:20):
Can you hear me? Hello?
Speaker 20 (15:25):
Can you hear me?
Speaker 22 (15:26):
Okay?
Speaker 20 (15:28):
Hello?
Speaker 19 (15:31):
Hello, Hey, No, we're here with you. We're gonna get
any back here with you in the second. To answer
your question, are you saying from a couple different cities, Yeah.
Speaker 20 (15:42):
I live between Atlanta and Minneapolis and a little bit
in Fargo, Okay, And I'm an old military veteran seventy one.
But I just this reminded me of, you know, some
of the military gays, because I was with the Marines,
and you know, today, I wonder if after the end
of the game, if our players really went over to
(16:02):
that other team and said, hey, you guys gave us
everything you had. And it reminded me of the Bison
when the Bison first started out, you know, and you
know they had some three and eight seasons and you know,
it was that was just incredible this game.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
So we appreciate the call there.
Speaker 19 (16:22):
Yeah, I'm not sure if the players went over there
I know coach Poulsek took a second to to talk
to the ETSU quarterback as well, because he had a
heck of a game.
Speaker 1 (16:31):
It was have a comeback overall by the Bison.
Speaker 19 (16:34):
I know you do see that sometimes, especially a team
that that comes in expecting to win, Like, hey, you
guys gave us the best shot. You had us on
the ropes there, so that I'm sure that something that happened.
Looks like we got Andy and Jake back here with.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
This to do. Yes, we we just we wanted you
to talk tonight. We're gonna let you take all a
post game. We were sorry about that, Melt. We appreciate
your call calling in here. Did not hear that one?
He and can you relate to us what to what
Mill was calling about?
Speaker 19 (17:01):
Yeah, so he was just wondering if if the guys
actually went over after the game, like the Bison players
went over to the ETSU guys and we're saying, like
you guys played like you guys are a good team
and doing the thing where you go over and be
like you guys give us their best shot, and like
that could have been anybody's game. That's kind of what
Noilah was trying to trying to get through there.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
Yeah, absolutely, I think that was probably happening and appreciate
the call once again there, Milt, like I know off
the TV was watching the TV call here on WDA
why once I got into Appleby's up here on the
north side of town and they asked, uh, we're talking
to coach Paulosek afterwards, and Sam Getzinger said that he
had a brief conversation there with the quarterback Jalen what's
(17:43):
his name here, Jaalen King part of me, a nice
little long conversation with him, and said like, hey, we
respect your program. You guys were really really good, And
Tim Paulasek even said like, I'm impressed by their program,
what they do. They're going to be a contender in
this league. They're going to be a contender for the
playoffs as well, but then also said, but just as
I am impressed by them, I am completely unimpressed by
(18:03):
how we played, and a lot of things to clean up,
so bit of both. We can't just sit here today
and say, hey, ets us better than everyone thought. I
know they're on rank, but they're better than people thought.
And the issue did not play a clean game but
I'm sure that some of the players went over there.

Speaker 17 (22:23):
Time for more reaction from today's game. Cure game is
your host Andy Rickoff, So a.
Speaker 18 (22:29):
Look for the on side for a minute fifty nine
to go in two timeouts. Steindorf approaches the ball, rolls
it dribble against off of East Tennessee State player buys it, haven't.
The Bison got the outside kick at DSU recovered it.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
It bounced off a buccaneer and.
Speaker 18 (22:45):
The Bison fall out of Darius Gibbits has the recovery.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
What a what a play right there. Darius's with the recovery.
Talk about unsung heroes in the game, he is going
to go down. Maybe now has a unsung onecause we're
probably gonna be talking about the on site kick that
was recovered by Darius Gibbons. So we'll hope remember his
name was the guy that recovered it. And Steiny with
a great kick. There usually Elioazic on the kickoffs, they
have Steiny. Apparently he has practiced those ones a little
(23:12):
bit more. They felt confident with him and it was
a funky kick like he hit one that was kind
of bouncing a little bit, obviously off the face mask
of an ETSU player. Then it's live and Darius Gibbons
Johnny on the spot for it.
Speaker 4 (23:22):
Yeah, you know, we practiced that every Thursday and practice
we call that. That one's the snowplow when they have
a little middle dribbler there and yeah, so you're bringing
the two guys. I think they brought in Chaka and
uh it was Marcus Gully that kind of motioned in
from out by the numbers.
Speaker 1 (23:34):
There's definitely a body to bring in the snow plowing.
Speaker 4 (23:35):
Yeah, yeah, well yeah, and uh so just a little
middle dribble and Stiney hit a perfect ball and got
a good bounce. Etsu's guy's face mask and we got
on top of it. But yeah, that's something you practice,
you know, every week. You kind of hope you don't
have to use it. When you do need to use it,
it's a big spot. So the guys executed well when
we got the ball back.
Speaker 1 (23:51):
Yeah, there you go on site kick recovery, the first
one since two thousand and five against you C. Davis.
Let's pause ten seconds for station identification. You're listening to
buy some hotline.
Speaker 17 (24:01):
Q w B West Fargo, Fargo, Moorhead and KPFX HD
three kindred by sixteen sixty Howard by Kate Lee Chevrolet
tred Lady in Fargo.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
We've got Jeff Jeff in Valley City calling in for
us tonight here on Bidies and hotline. Jeff, you're with
us here? How are you feeling?
Speaker 21 (24:23):
You got an opinion? And I want to see what
you guys think when you have your best athlete and
the fastest player on the team. Since Christian Wattson sitting
on the sideline only and clipboard, couldn't you make him
a wide receiver as a deep threat or I mean,
the kidd is anonimal.
Speaker 22 (24:45):
Look that he did that the playoffs at South Dakota
State last year at the UNI Dome. I know this
kid wants to play, but I think I would understand.
I would understand why he probably was just hit to
transfer portal and and you could start anywhere.
Speaker 1 (25:03):
Are you talking about Cole Payton there, Jeff? I'm guessing
that's what you're talking about. Correct, Yeah, exactly, Okay.
Speaker 21 (25:08):
That kid is fast, Yeah.
Speaker 24 (25:11):
Really fast.
Speaker 21 (25:12):
I don't see him sitting on.
Speaker 1 (25:13):
Yes, thank you for the call there, Jeff, appreciate it. Yep,
thanks for your thoughts. Call us up seven zero one
four seven six sixteen sixty Actually text us that will
work better tonight. Some of the connection issues we apologize
for those. For everyone, texting us will probably work best.
Seven zero one four seven six sixteen sixty the number
to text us at as well. I got any thoughts
(25:34):
from this win for ENDSU. We did think it was strange, right,
we were watching the game unfold, Jake and we were
sitting in our studio thinking, you know what, I haven't
seen Cole Payton. It's kind of kind of weird, like
Cam's playing great, and also you're trailing and probably affects
things a little bit. But yeah, we did not see
Cole other than a couple of plays where Cam's helmet
came off and then he has to set out for
a plan when Cole comes in.
Speaker 4 (25:55):
Yeah, you know, obviously we're not there for the game
planning and install. You know what coach Landry saw on
what they thought be effective against Etsu's defense. But no,
like Jeff said, I agree on cold pay I obviously
played with him for three years. He is by far
right now on ndcu's roster. He's the best athlete. I
think no one's gonna question that the coaches know that
we and I think the coaches know this and coach
Paul is like, there needs to be a role for
(26:17):
Cole Payton on this team. They'll find him a role.
I'm one hundred percent confident in that. What that role is,
I don't know. Is it coming into wildcat quarterback? Is
it coming in as a full back, you know, tight
end h back type position. Can we line him up
in the slot and give him the ball? Can he
play defense?
Speaker 1 (26:32):
I would love to.
Speaker 4 (26:33):
I would love to see Cole Payton on defense. You know,
he's six three and forty pounds like backer to me.
Speaker 5 (26:39):
But uh.
Speaker 4 (26:41):
No, we definitely need to find a role for Cole Payton.
He's he's too good of an athlete to have on
the sideline. I agree with you, Jeff, I do agree
as well. I think there's gotta be a more of
a role for him than there was in this game.
And you know, against a team that you know, I'll
give him credit. I think their defensive line and their linebackers.
We said their linebackers were good. We knew they were good.
We were saying that all week. But you know, I
thought we had the advantage up front and to have
(27:02):
a guy like, you know, Cole Payton that you could
run and kind of be a punishing runner. I thought
you could have used him in a game like this now,
being down late, you have to kind of throw the ball,
which is more obviously cams forte than Cole's. And I
know we want him to line up at receiver, and
he did line up there last week and caught a
pass then maybe caught two passes. He's lined up at
running back and gotten the ball handed off to him.
We all want to say, just line them up at receivers,
(27:24):
and I'm on a deeper out or something.
Speaker 1 (27:25):
A little bit goes. Yeah. I know we got like
thirty receivers that are playing nowadays, and we had like
twelve of them on the field tonight, which is a
ridiculous number. But we can't just the same just go
out there and do something you've literally never done before.
N Cole has done quarterback his whole life. He did
do a little tight end. I asked him before these season.
He's like, yeah, I played a little little tight end
like freshman year or something. I played a little lined
up there a little bit and did catch a few passes.
(27:47):
So like he can do it, yes, But I'm not
saying we should be lining him up at the slot
twenty times a game and throw him you know, six
passes every game. I don't know if that's necessarily the
way we want to use Cole Payton, but we hopefully
will be using them more than we did tonight.
Speaker 4 (28:00):
And it might come down to one of those things too,
that the coaches, you know, because some of those special
formations where you have Col Payton is those are kind
of one off. So if you show that already this year,
then teams are gonna have ability to watch that and
scout that on film and no kind of okay, if
we line up Col Payton in the slaughter, we line
them up.
Speaker 5 (28:14):
As an h back here like they like to do this.
Speaker 4 (28:16):
So maybe that could be kind of the chess game
the coaches are playing to maybe save some of those formations,
save some of those play calls for you know, later
games in the Valley. Obviously needed a little extra tonight
got the win still, but you know, maybe they they're
saving even some you know, some of the tricks up
their sleeve for conference play.
Speaker 1 (28:31):
I'll say, on like the two point conversion that that
wasn't converted in the was it late third or early
fourth quarter or whatever it was, you know, I feel
like Cole Payton on a two point conversion is yep
or something close to the goal line because he can
throw it enough to obviously throw it a couple of
yards and it trick people or you can do that
little pop pass with them or something. But obviously he's
a big body, be hard to tackle for a couple
(28:52):
of yards. If you put a full back or someone
else back there too, you would think you could get
some yardage. There's some push with with cold Payton. I
think that's an area to explore with his body. Well,
even in previous years when we line up for Pat.
Speaker 4 (29:03):
I know this is kind of a coach blosk thing
a couple of years back, but we'd line up with
Col Payton and our gate look. So Colpayton and we
go out, obviously score touchdown goal for Pat and line
up in like you know, the swinging gate loook and
colp Peyton'll be at quarterback and then be able to
kind of read the defense and if we had numbers
one way or the other, either make a lightning or
thunder check and then kind of run a speed option
or kind of an RPO type look. So something like
that on two point conversion play you know, go out there.
(29:23):
If we get the look, we like, run the two
point play and if not, we can bring it in.
Col Payton's a holder as well, so you can kick
the pat.
Speaker 1 (29:28):
That's the one thing I was gonna mention is like, again,
easier said than done it. He's ever done it, right,
But could he be a holder obviously James Hendrix. Yeah, So,
like you know, if that's something you've seen, or if
that's something that maybe seen it in practice or something,
then if he could be a holder, Like imagine what
that does for field goals as well extra points, but
field goals, the fakes you can run. We had James
(29:49):
Hendrix before that was a quarterback before in his high
school career and early on at NDSU, and he was
a holder for a bit. Obviously has a very famous
fake field goal in his lure at NDSU in a
national championship game. So I think those are all areas.
But at the end of the day, I do think
Cole Payton should be used as a quarterback. But didn't
see it much tonight, and we wonder seen him it
wasn't for cam Miller's helmet coming.
Speaker 4 (30:08):
Off and the one the one interesting thing about Cole
Payton as a wholder too. He is a lefty. Yeah,
kickers are right, so when he catches it, he can
roll out to the left and be to his arm
and out to spin around like more straight handed quarterbacks
have to do.
Speaker 5 (30:19):
You just run out four exactly.
Speaker 1 (30:20):
Okay, and look at the little things you're picking up
the nuances there, So some stuff on Cole Payton. I said,
we get to your thoughts on what this team is feeling.
We'll do that here right before we take a break. Obviously,
you win this game. That's all that matters in the end.
And coach Paul Sick was saying afterwards, we got to
celebrate our wins. We do need to celebrate it because
winning the game is hard. There's a lot that goes
into it, especially on the road. There's even more that
(30:42):
goes into it from the support staff and everyone, so
it is hard to win. We do need to celebrate
the wins. But how would you be feeling after this game?
How do you think this team is feeling with a longer,
long ish flight coming home here through some time zones
with a win, not a pretty win, but all that
matters is it's a win. How do you think they're feeling.
Speaker 4 (30:58):
Yeah, you know, like you said, it's a win, but
you know, there's a standard at NBSU and you know,
the standards, the standard, the standards not changing for anyone.
So I know the guys right now, it's a win,
but there's gonna be a kind of one of those
weird feel feels in your stomach, and you know, it's
a little bit different than you go out there and
win fifty three to four or whatever, score four points
a couple of states. Yeah, but anyways, but yeah, I
(31:19):
definitely know there's there. It's it's it's gonna be a
quiet plane ride home. It's a win, but it kind
of feels like a loss a little bit.
Speaker 1 (31:25):
We're gonna get the ice cream sandwiches on the way,
the ice cream bars, those are coming, but probably not
having like a dance party in the back exactly.
Speaker 4 (31:32):
Yeah, So it's gonna be uh and Monday meetings will
be they'll be fun for the guys.
Speaker 27 (31:36):
You know.
Speaker 4 (31:36):
I think Paul segment of comment about that in his
post game. There's gonna be a lot of learning that
comes from this. Luckily, the learning comes from a win,
not a loss. But the learning will happen and you know,
just the guys. We always talk about it in the
locker room. Just get one percent better every day. Maybe
after this game we get two percent better on Monday,
but you know, the guys are definitely it's gonna be
a quiet plane ride home.
Speaker 1 (31:55):
And there are some positives, as you said, other than
just the win. Of Like, okay, it's say in the
playoff you're behind by fourteen points at one point. You
can draw on this and be like, Okay, we've come
back from worse, We've come back from being down before.
We can do it again. Or a close game but
you need to drive at the end. But hey, we
did that before, we can do it again, you know.
And for some young players, especially different positions, you know,
(32:15):
offensive line, wide receiver, you know that does that does
mean something for the end.
Speaker 5 (32:19):
Of the season.
Speaker 1 (32:20):

It is your host, Andy Rickoff.
Speaker 18 (36:54):
Hayla Powers will snap Haden Steindor will hold from the
right hash snapping spot Oazick's kick on the way and
it is good.
Speaker 1 (37:05):
He got it, Eli Oazick.
Speaker 18 (37:08):
What a kick fifty four yards and the Bison grabbed
the lead back seventeen to fourteen.
Speaker 1 (37:20):
Big time kick right there from Eli Ozick. Another one
from over fifty yards. He had the fifty one yarder
last week, backs up with a fifty four yard er
second longest in school history tonight as NDS who gets
to win thirty eight thirty five? And we mentioned how
key were those three points? As NDSU wins by three
points thirty eight to thirty five. He also attempted a
(37:41):
fifty six yard of that one, got hooked a little
bit off to the left to say the least, but
had the distance. And that's the most impressive thing is
they got a kicker there who I think you can trust.
From fifty plus the he's gonna be able to have
the leg to get it there, which is huge.
Speaker 4 (37:53):
Yeah, that's gonna be a weapon, you know, especially kicking
in the door. Yeah, that's gonna be awesome doors. We
can blow the doors open when he's kicking.
Speaker 5 (38:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (38:03):
But no, that's awesome. And Eli I was like, I mean,
he's got a but just to kind of eliminate that
from the the other team's game plan of trying to
return and kick, that's awesome for for Endi's units a
weapon going forward.
Speaker 1 (38:24):
Yeah, I think we finally come up with a nickname
for him. I know we were trying to come up
with one like eli the Leg or something. How about
eli Oh's kick? Eli Oh kick? Is that? Can we
work shopping a little bit? Is that what we've had before?
Speaker 5 (38:37):
Is that irish?
Speaker 1 (38:38):
I have no idea Oh kick? Yeah, okay sounds like
it sounds iris.
Speaker 5 (38:41):
And then we're gonna do with o'riley's Yes.
Speaker 1 (38:43):
We could see. We're just we did it for John
Gors last week for Eli eli Oh kick oh zick
at the long field goal for Indyusue today one of
the one of the players of the game for sure,
one of the unsung heroes in this one. Won't remember
that kick once we get you a long ways away
from it, probably this time next year. Wasn't there a
field goal in that game? Was like a thirty five
yard or something we'll forget, but definitely a hero in
(39:05):
the game tonight for NDSU with air three point win
over Etsu. Let's check on some other scores from around
the FCS tonight NDSU one of the later kicks, so
we actually have a lot of final scores for you already.
Will stay in the Missouri Valley Football Conference. First off,
South Dakota States game has gone final. They win twenty
four to three against non D one Augustan, a D
(39:26):
two school there, twenty four to three. They were trailing
three nothing. Oggie was up on them three to nothing
early on in that game. And you can say NDSU
shouldn't have won. Not an impressive win by any means.
Speaker 5 (39:36):
On the runwin counts.
Speaker 1 (39:38):
Their win counts and SDSU's does not. It is a
non counter for them, twenty four to three over Aggie.
That's on that one.
Speaker 5 (39:45):
As far as I'm concerned, South Coast State lost today.
Speaker 1 (39:48):
It didn't happen. Didn't happen. The game did not happen.
Speaker 5 (39:50):
Then you know what, Augustana might as well have had a.
Speaker 1 (39:52):
Whooping cough, which also happened. It also happened, which also
happened in the league. Today with South Dakota on the
road at Portland State. They traveled all the way out
to to Portland, Oregon, to Hillsboro Stadium for a game
with the vikings of Portland State. It's been one hundred
and fifty thousand dollars to get the team and all
the gear out there, and then this morning Portland State
(40:13):
said a player or two on our team have whooping
cough and they've been around too many and the doctors
got together and said, oh, he probably shouldn't play this
game then, Which is the right decision? That is absolutely,
without a question, that is the right decision by all
the parties involved there. So that was the right call,
But it doesn't make it any less painful for USD.
Spends one hundred and fifty thousand dollars in the game,
(40:33):
gets canceled the day against Portland State. Have not heard
yet if that counts as a win for USD or not,
but I would assume it will be.
Speaker 4 (40:39):
Yeah, that'll be interesting. And like how It would be
a good question for Mount Larson next week when we
see him. But like, how does that obviously South Coast
State or in South Coast State, South Dakota, we think
at the end of the year will kind of be
a playoff team, hopefully being in the playoff seed country
be seated. How does that game affect that? Obviously, Portland
State's a big twelve, big twelve, big big Sky team,
(41:00):
that's a strong conference in the FCS. So if they
go out and put together eight and three season seven
and four.
Speaker 5 (41:06):
How does that game? How does that work with the seeding?
Speaker 1 (41:09):
And even if it does count as a win, committee
members really counted against like it really wasn't a win.
Like someone's gonna be that guy right in the room, like, well,
there wasn't a win. They didn't win it. But everyone's like,
but if we play, they were gonna beat Portland. Yeah,
we can all kind of infer that, right, you would think.
Speaker 4 (41:23):
But that's intriguing to see how that could play out,
you know, potentially down the road. And if maybe one
of those teams is a bubble team, is that either
pushes them over the edge or keeps them out.
Speaker 1 (41:32):
I can't imagine, like if you usd's on the bubble line,
Someone's like, the reason we didn't is because they had
a game where their opponent had whipping coff. Yeah, that'd
be a tough reason. Now, if that's your reasoning, that'd
be a tough one to be able to defend. I
think Illinois State gets a win fifty one to thirty
four over Western Illinois. Illinois State's gonna be the first
opponent and conference play for ENDSU here in a couple
of weeks. And everyone was big on the red Birds
(41:52):
and they are two and one, which all again, all
that matters is your record two and one, their one
loss being the Iowa FBS team, So that looks good.
They're the way that gotten these wins. Maybe not so impressive.
That was a fourteen to seven game at the end
of the first quarter. Western Illinois scored fourteen in the
second quarter and that was only a field goal difference
at halftime. Illinois State with the lead, they win it,
but they get thirty four points to Western Illinois. I'm
(42:15):
not really sure how I feel about the red Birds
at this point of the season.
Speaker 5 (42:18):
Yeah, you know, Western they've struggled. I think they like.
Speaker 1 (42:20):
Maybe seventy seven to three to Indian Indiana does look
good to the end, Sally, But yeah, I know that's
an interesting score.
Speaker 4 (42:27):
I would have thought my idea that game was going
to be more like fifty one to fourteen Illinois State.
Speaker 5 (42:33):
But you have thirty four points. I don't know. We'll see, we'll.
Speaker 1 (42:36):
See what that means, see what we see from Illinois
State once they start playing some some valley competition. You
and D gets a win. They back up their win
against Montana with another win over a big Sky team today,
fifty two to twenty eight, complete domination. They scored fourteen
in the first quarter, twenty four in the second quarter alone,
and they go into be Idaho State really running away
from the Bengals in that one Simon Runfo two hundred
(42:58):
and eighty seven yards, two touchdowns, one interception through the air.
So everyone's saying that they can't pass the ball. The
passing game isn't there. There's a point disproven on that one,
because Runfo did pass for well over two hundred and
fifty yards on this one, two eighty seven through the
year twenty five of thirty eight. Yeah, you AND's got
no depth of target, no depth of pass there. But
he completed them.
Speaker 5 (43:18):
Yeah, U and D.
Speaker 4 (43:19):
So far, what they've shown this is, you know they're
gonna be They're gonna be a team to a team
that's gonna compete in the FCS. And you know, was
it three four weeks from now? There's a game in
the Dome against un D that could be a matchup
of a couple teams pretty highly ranked. Maybe maybe a
top five matchup potentially.
Speaker 1 (43:35):
I think for sure gonna be a top ten matchup.
Maybe potentially depending on other you know, scores eating up
to that game, could be a top five matchup. You
don't know that game he's speaking to, uh, October fifth
inside the dome, who I was listening, get yourself to
the Fargo do Yeah, it's gonna make sure we invite
the neighbors to the north, nice little friendly welcome inside
the down with a bunch of Bison fans to be
(43:55):
to hope for that one. Before that, we do of
Tawson next week, then on the road at Illin State,
also in Valley play a few more games going on
right now Southern Illinois in a barn burner withincarnate word
kind of down to the wire. The sulukis with the
lead thirty five twenty eight, fifty one seconds remain in
the game, and Carnate Word has the ball at SIU's
thirty four, trying to go into either tie it up
(44:19):
or if they score a touchdown on the road, they
might just go for two and the win potentially. I
will keep you up to that one up to date
on that one, as it is a seven point game
right now. Southern Illinois with the lead Incarnate Word taking
on a Valley school for the second straight week. They
lost at SDSU last week and a fairly close one
and then Southern Illinois this week. Right now, sulukis with
a seven point edge. Murray State gets a win fifty
(44:40):
nine to eight over Mississippi Valley State. Also, Indiana State
gets their first win of the year twenty four to
thirteen over Dayton, Missouri State their first win of the
year twenty eight fourteen over FCS Lyndon Wood. And Nebraska
all over Northern Iowa right now twenty seven to three,
nine minutes to go in quarter number four there from Lincoln.

Time for more reaction from today's game, Fury game is
your host Andy Rickoff.
Speaker 1 (49:29):
Here's a snap to Miller the game up the middle.
Marshall runs and he's got in touchdown. Bison touchdown n DSU.
Speaker 18 (49:37):
With one fifty nine to go, TK Marshall into the
end zone from three yards out, and now the Bison
pulled back within a score.
Speaker 1 (49:46):
It's thirty five to twenty nine. Big play right there.
Late in this game, DYSU gets a little closer with
the TK Marshall touchdown run. Another one of the unsung heroes.
Here is NDSU. Is it thirty eight thirty five? Welcome
back to Bison Hotline here with you live from Applebee's.
If you're here at Applebee's, by the way, we are
(50:07):
giving away a pair of tickets to the next home game,
which is next week, the homecoming game DSU and Telson
one o'clock next week here at the dome. Come sign
up at our table here in the bar area. I
would use your name and number so you can draw
your you know, Jake can draw your sent up slip
and then you can be a winner. That's how we
do this thing and everything else up here, the cups,
the hats, the yard signs, all of that completely free
(50:29):
for you to take. Just coming up over here, take
what you want. We have the tail getting cups with
the home schedule on them. We've got some winter hats.
Is getting closer. We're gonna have fall weather. Fall weather's
the best one, and you need a hat for fall
weather as well. We do have the yard sign cell
phone holders as well, all up here, four yard table
in the bar area. But how about t K Marshall
(50:49):
a big rushing touchdown right there, and you look at
the end of this game, and you know TK Marshall
one catch for two yards, also seven carries forty one
yards and a touchdown on the ground. You're gonna look
at Barika's nine carries in sixty one, Marty Brown's eleven
for sixty five. Don't just gloss over t K Marshall
seven carries for forty one yards five point nine in
the carry and a score. He had a really good game.
Speaker 4 (51:11):
Yeah that that run at the end. Uh it was
right before the two minute warning. But if he doesn't
get in there, obviously have I shouldn't say two minute warning,
two minute timeout. Two minute tis two minute timeout. Sorry,
and you can get fine by the way that coming
after you. Yeah, but uh no, that's a big play
to get in there. And you know, obviously we know
how the game ends after that we get the on
side kick, but just to you know, have that and
(51:31):
cam Miller getting the guys up to the line. Scrameranger,
I guarantee that call didn't come from the side, right.
That's cam Miller saying, get on the ball, get on
the ball, realizing the time and situation where gotta get
this playoff before the two minute timeout, and you know, just.
Speaker 5 (51:42):
Calling I think is probably his own laughter. Whatever the
play call was. But props to cam Miller, Props t
K for puncching them.
Speaker 1 (51:47):
You would have loved to have scored before the two
minute timeouts. Should have had that on the other side,
to basically have an extra defensive time out right, didn't
work that way, But you got the playoff before the
two minute timeout. Two minute warning and it was a
touchdown with t K Marshall after Johnny Gors with a
big catch on a fourth and ten that I mean,
it's the game. It's fourth in the game, right and
he comes up with a huge catch there, a little
(52:08):
bit of a run as well, reached for the end zone.
I think one official was about to call touchdown and
then the reconvenience that he was down at the three
yard line, but then TK punches it in for that touchdown.
Three headed manstra I still don't think we've had anyone
really steal or take that job, so to speak. But
at three headed monsters working so far with Marty Brown,
Barrika Panu and obviously TK Marshall, and then you got
(52:29):
your quarterbacks. With what cam Miller can do in the
running game. He had fifteen carries, the most on the team,
for forty seven yards and two rushing touchdowns. How about
five rushing touchdowns for cam Miller already this season where
through three games that's impressive. And Bryce Lance gets in
on the running game today he has one carry for
eighteen yards in his first effort rushing touchdown for number five.
Speaker 4 (52:48):
Yeah, I think Bryce is really solidified himself as a
weapon on our offense this year. Just his performance last week.
Obviously he's kicking the scoring off this week with his
jet sweep touchdown. And he's just super in the past
game and obviously in a couple of these passes too,
I know he's kind of cams led him out of
bounds couple times. He's catching the ball every time. Yeah,
he's got really good hands.
Speaker 1 (53:07):
Went up on a comeback route, got hit in the aar,
but got the foot down still exactly.
Speaker 4 (53:10):
Yeah, So I'm really looking forward to you know, Bryce
Lands kind of solidifying himself as a weapon on our
offense this year.
Speaker 1 (53:16):
So Bryce that one rushing touchdown, also five receptions thirty
nine yards. He had eleven targets in this game, the
receptions and the targets most on the team seven point
eight yards per catch. So another great game for number five.
Really starting to solidify himself. And again, this is a
game you didn't have Raja, you didn't have Brail. Those
are the only two vets in that room. Interesting, the
only two guys you needed young receivers to step up,
(53:39):
and Bryce had to basically the alpha in the receiver
room and he absolutely was today. Give him McKay Collins.
A ton of credit to I thought Mackay played great.
He had four receptions on five targets for sixty seven yards.
A thirty three yard are in there as well. Makai
played getting great time. We actually had ten different players
catch a pass in this game.
Speaker 4 (53:57):
Yeah, that's crazy, that's you don't see that too off. Yeah,
it's probably probably not a great thing, but it's a
good thing that happened.
Speaker 1 (54:04):
And we got the way. It means we got depth.
It means we got depth. But also, yeah, you'd probably like.
Speaker 5 (54:09):
Let's find me less players.
Speaker 1 (54:11):
Yeah, you know, you like to have guys at the
top that can just get it done. But hey, we
needed a bunch of players in different positions. You give
credit to the coaching staff for having them ready and
in the right spots. And I'm gonna have my my
person game a little bit later, the game that will
foreshadow and maybe tell you a little bit more about
what I think about ten different receivers. Twenty one receptions
for Indy issue. All that leading into what cam Miller
(54:33):
did twenty one of thirty three just sixty four percent
completion percent. There's a bad day for cam Miller. Sixty
four percent completion percentage of two hundred and fifty yards
and a touchdown, and that's kind of like in a
quarterback rating. By the way, I have one thirty seven
point three no interceptions. That's kind of like a whole
hum game for Camp at That's the point, is that
where it's like a two fifty sixty four percent completion percentage. Eh, okay,
game for camps are spoiled. Yeah, that's how spoiled we
(54:55):
are at this point. Obviously Cam as well with those
rushing touchdown two of them on the grid and leading
you in rushing yards. Pretty good day all around for
Cam are leading you in rushing attempts with fifteen but
forty seven rushing yards and the two rushing touchdowns including
the game winner for number seven Cam Miller. We'll take it.
Break will come back and give you some more breakdown
and get you our player of the game on the
(55:15):
other side. Next here on Bizon Hotline.

Who made the difference today for the Bison. This is
the Dakota Refrigeration player of the game.
Speaker 1 (59:29):
Stap Tamilla rushes on, he throws the middle.
Speaker 18 (59:31):
Osterman's got it spinning at the ten, down to the seven.
Welcome to NDSU, Kate O'sterman the transfer from Minnesota all
the way down to the seven. Kan of twenty seven
and a first out for the Bison.
Speaker 1 (59:46):
Kate Osterman. Kate Osterman with a big catch right there
for NDSU late in the ballgame as they come back
and get the victory thirty eight thirty five over e
T s U and in k wonder. I know we
told you before we took our last break that we're
gonna come back with our player of the game. No,
Kate Oserman is not our player of the game. We'll
(01:00:08):
tell you about why we played that highlight a little
bit here. But Kate Osterman wide receiver for NDSU football.
I'm looking on Twitter here and I believe he committed
to NDSU roughly about May twenty second or so is
when he committed to NDSU. So however, many months that
is what June July August like little over three months,
(01:00:30):
like three and a half ish months ago he committed
to NDSU is not in for springball, was obviously there
for fall. Camp committed to NDSU as a transfer in
from Minnesota May twenty third, the exact date he posted
himself on Twitter. He was transferring to NDSU out of
the Minnesota Golden Gopher's program. Here to the Bison, and
he's already in games making crucial plays. I know the
(01:00:53):
Bison did not score on that series. Kate Oserman caught
that one. They later get stopped on a fourth and
goal from I believe the eleven yard line eleven or
twelve yard line. Third down, they went with a run.
Cam Miller's helmet came off and so Cole Payton came
in and then Cole Payton got hit on the blind
side basically on that fourth and goal attempt. So they
didn't score on that possession. But Kate Osterman with a
(01:01:15):
catch there, and he is one of ten different players
to catch a pass for NDSU. Some of them are
running backs. Berrika has a catch in this game, or
TK has a catch in this game, and Barrika actually
have catches in this game. But we saw Bryce Lance,
McKay Collins, John Gores, Tyler, Terre Hark, Jackson, Williams, who's
a true freshman just got here in the fall, and
(01:01:38):
Kate Osterman who got here three and a half is
months ago. All of them plus Silas Evans was on
the field for snaps in the end of this game
two minute drill down. And Silas Evans, who transferred to
NDSU's program on I think August fifth, it was in
August after Carson Hagerley decided that he was gonna step
(01:01:59):
away from the program for more mental health reasons. All
goot that they bring inside Thisss Evans as a transfer
and got here in early August. He's been here for
a month, folks, and he's on the field in a
crucial moment of a game. That is all to say
that my person of the game, slash player, slash coach
of the game. I'm gonna give it to Steve Crutchley
off the board one to the wide receivers coach, Steve
(01:02:21):
Crutchley as person of the game, because you get all
these young receivers guys who have just come into this
program and they're making plays, and I mean, if this
is not like, Okay, we're up thirty five points in
the fourth and throw some guys in there, you're down
multiple scores, and Kate Osterman's in the game to make
some catches for you. Jackson Williams is a true freshman.
He had a catch in this game for twenty yards
(01:02:42):
as well. Wasn't a dump off for something that was
a twenty yard catch. And then you also have Chris
Harris making some catches sidl this Evans in the Game
of God here a month ago as well. I'm really
impressed by the receiver corp, how deep it is, how
much they trust some of these guys, and I think
that is mostly due to the great work of Steve Crutchley,
the wide receivers coach, getting these guys ready.
Speaker 4 (01:03:00):
Yeah, and this is some of the positive sides of
the transfer port right five years ago, six years ago,
would never happened, would never happen, It couldn't happen. And
now you have a guy like Silent getting in and
playing meaningful minutes and ye when you're trailing, but at
the end of the day to it, that's a testament
to coach Crutchley and what he does with that group,
and those guys trust him and take his coaching, are
(01:03:20):
able to go out on Saturdays and execute that game plan,
and like you said, the amount of receivers in the
first three games a year that we have on the
field Saturday contributing to NBSU football. I mean, obviously it
always goes back to the positioning coach, and that's coach Crutchley.
So very fitting for him to be the person coach
of the game.
Speaker 5 (01:03:38):
Of the game.
Speaker 1 (01:03:39):
Absolutely, And part of this too is we've had receivers
in the past that so many catches that really the
blocking receivers, right, and that's needed. That is a big role, right.
Speaker 5 (01:03:49):
Look, Cold Jacob backup team captain.
Speaker 1 (01:03:54):
Usually in the game there's Rigie running play yep, and
that's okay. He's really good at what he did there.
He had one reception in his career. But these guys
aren't They weren't injured. Just a run block. I mean,
you're down by two possessions in a game in the
fourth quarter, we're not running the ball. We're you're running
a rout and we're gonna throw it to you. Potentially,
that speaks volumes to how much Tim Paula, Sik, Jake
Landry and this whole coaching staff believes in these young players.
(01:04:15):
And I think it goes back to Steve Crutchley and the
rest of the coaching staff. But Steve crutch is the
position coach there to have these guys ready, I think
it's really impressive, folks. And you didn't have Raja today,
you didn't have Brailn Henderson, so the guys had to
step up. Like when you look at it, you go, Raja,
Brayln and Bryce Lance are kind of your top three guys.
Makai Collins is clearly looking like that fourth guy, and
he's making a ton of players right. I don't think
my kay might need some more play in time. John
(01:04:36):
Gore is coming out of kind of nowhere to be
like like Minnie Wes Welker or something like very valuable,
like the next Ryan Smith type of player from just
a stature that's huge. Tyler Terhark's making some plays. Then
we're on Kate Oasterman, We're on Chris Harris, We're on
Jackson Williams. Like Jackson Williams is wide receiver nine and
inside the sevens is on the field that's wide receiver ten.
(01:04:57):
That's how deep into the depth chart you're going right now,
PARTI because of injury, but that shows the depth of
that receiver room. So I'm gonna give it to Steve
Crutchley today a little off the board, our person of
the Game, brought to you by Dakoda Refrigeration d RI,
I player of the Game. The Coda Refrigeration helps athletes
succeed behind the scenes, from the training room to the
dining room, from melk to medicine, ice to ice cream.
(01:05:17):
DRI has been serving Minnesota, Montana, and the Dakotas for
over forty years online at dak reff dot com. I
was floored when I Kate Oserman comes into the game,
and I think Sam said it on the broadcast, was saying, hey,
Kate Osterman checking into the game, and I was like,
and if we're putting Kate Osterman out there, we are
deep in the wide receiver bank here. And then he
(01:05:38):
caught one, and I'm like, my bad, my bad, guys,
I didn't I wasn't aware of your game. My man,
So well done. I think it's a name to watch
out for the future as well. But Steve Crutchley deserves
some credit there in that position. Coach.
Speaker 4 (01:05:49):
Yeah, and I think too, you look at the relation.
You always talking about the quarterback receiver relationship quarterback coach
Randy Hedberg and receiver coach Steve Crutchley. So on coach
crutch can and they've been coaching together for a long time.
But coach cutch didn't have a house up here, so
him and coach Hedberg were roommates for a while over
at therapy or a coach Hedberg's condo. It's a little
fun fact there, you know, talk about that receiver quarterback relationship,
(01:06:11):
the coaches relationships. So they were, you know, throwing it
back to oh gosh, I don't even know when coach
Hedberg was in college or coach crush Yeah, but back
in the back it might have been roommates before it
might have been roommates. Well, coach Crushley isn't quite as
old as coach Hedberg. Coach yeah, yeah, Coach Heberger, you're
not old, you're experienced.
Speaker 1 (01:06:26):
Yes, yeah, that's a crazy story. You know, like he
gave me over here obviously those who had a previous relationship.
He's like, hey, just stay here for a little bit.
Tell you I find your spot. That's awesome, And you're
right about two about the quarterback receiver connection. Like Jackson
Williams has been here for a month. Simmons has been
here for a month. The Cam's got a lot of
other receivers as well. To get the confidence in a
game where you're down to be like Kasman, I'm coming
(01:06:48):
to you, Jackson Williams, I'm throwing it to you. To
have that that confidence is pretty remarkable.
Speaker 4 (01:06:53):
And I think that speaks on Cam Miller's leadership of
the of this guy's Obviously he knows he has a
young receiver group, and obviously there's there's some int intricacy
of the receiver position that those guys might not be
up to speed on. But Cam Miller, as a senior quarterback,
as that leader on the team, is able to kind
of get those guys through that and you know, sometimes
throw them open or you know what, maybe if they
do make a mistake, he's right there on their helmet,
you know, saying, hey, this is what you did this time.
(01:07:14):
This here's how we can do it better and we
can complete this past next time.
Speaker 1 (01:07:17):
To ask some of the players or maybe watch if
there was like a film isolated on the sidelines of
what Cam was doing there in the fourth quarter. They
see the leadership there when offenses and on the field,
I'm sure you're telling some of those young receivers, Hey,
I'm coming to you, Yeah, and we're gonna need you
for a play here be ready. And you had a
bunch of receivers step up in a big way tonight
for NDSU as they win it. Thirty eight thirty five

Touchdown Bryce Lance in the end zone to open up
the Bison scoring drive here in Johnson City. Eighteen yard
rushing touchdown on the JetSuite coming from left to right.
Speaker 1 (01:12:40):
He had his first two.
Speaker 18 (01:12:42):
Career touchdowns receiving last week. He's got his first on
the ground rushing this week as the Bison take a
six toping lead with nine fifty eight to play in
the opening quarter.
Speaker 1 (01:12:55):
Nice touchdown there from Bryce Lance gets his first career
rushing touchdown as a Bison, got the scoring starting. We're
thinking there, Jake like, yeah, we're we're off and running
up seven nothing and get some stops. Nice. Is he comfortable?
And that's exactly what happened. It was a very comfortable, uh,
non heart wrenching win. Well that's a night for Endius.
You would have to say thirty five or thirty eight,
thirty five.
Speaker 5 (01:13:14):
Yeah, you know he's comfortable, right, Yeah, comfortable.
Speaker 19 (01:13:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:13:16):
I wasn't sweating at all. I wasn't worried. I never
doubt that we had the entire time.
Speaker 1 (01:13:20):
Yep, that's how it goes. Bryce Lance's first career rushing
touched on for him. He has one of the young
receivers though that stepped up in a big way tonight.
And obviously he is gonna be I think kind of
you can call him the alpha of that room. Whenever.
He's not gonna be the leader because you've got Raja,
you've got brailin. But hey, they both have some growing
injuries and those ones gonna be tricky. Those can linger
for a while, So you're gonna be relying big time
on on a guy like Bryce that really didn't have
(01:13:41):
much on his shoulders before. He's got a lot on
his shoulders this year.
Speaker 4 (01:13:43):
Yeah, And you know, the more Bryce can step up,
the more some of those younger guys can step up,
that allows you know, maybe Brailan and Raja to you know,
take the time that it's gonna take for those injuries
to get completely one hundred percent healed.
Speaker 5 (01:13:53):
So you know that's gonna be a good thing.
Speaker 4 (01:13:55):
You know, obviously we need them back for conference play,
but when the younger guys are getting these reps right now,
banking these reps, so you know, when people go down,
when there's those that kind of nagging injuries, you know,
we're comfortable with having a Kid Osterman a Johnny Gore,
some of those younger guys step up and take those
big snaps in meaningful minutes.
Speaker 1 (01:14:12):
Where Chris Harris, Chris Jackson, Williams or mackay I can
just keep going on against Steve Creutchley, our person slash
player of the game that we had in that last segment.
But before we say goodbye. This is our last segment
on Bison hot Lete. We appreciate everybody's showing up here
at Apple because you will be here after every game
throughout the season. If you're here, we'll still give away
everything up front on the table. Got a few more cups,
(01:14:32):
some of the hats left as well, and it can
sign up to win the tickets to next week versus Towson.
They take another look here at our scoreboard, our Jiffy
lou before go scoreboard. NDSU obviously gets a win tonight.
They will improve the two and one. Some people saying
on Twitter, he had it's a win, but they're gonna
drop in the rankings. One I don't care about the
rankings is September. The rankings mean nothing. Honestly, They're gonna
(01:14:53):
have a lot more games against SDSU, Southern Illinois, U
and D. That's gonna decide all those things in the rankings. Right.
A win is a win. That's all it's gonna matter.
But yeah, they might fall, they might fall from two
to three in the national pool because Montana State gets
a win or what that. That's okay. It's understandable when
you have a game like this because frankly, they shouldn't
have won it. They shouldn't have No, the Etsu has
a better team for three and a half quarters. I
have no problems saying that. I think the coaching staff
(01:15:15):
is any problem with anyone saying that, or any fans
the Etsu was And when their locker room tonight, they're
probably like thinking, Hey, we did a lot of good things.
We can beat this team, we can play, we can
beat anybody now because the way we played. But they're
also feeling like, gosh, that one how do we not
win it? You know, like, how does that? That's a
one in a million, like you said, ninety eight point
one percent chance they're gonna win an ESPN. So they're
(01:15:36):
probably kicking themselves. But they should feel pretty good too,
and they were better than I think anyone was expecting.
Speaker 4 (01:15:39):
They will too, And the part of that is, you know,
you have to learn how to win, and that is
a program with a new head coach, a bunch of
transfers in there, the ETS is gonna have to learn
how to win ball games. I think that's one thing
NBSU does really well is NDSU knows how to win,
and they showed that tonight and an Etsu team that
has new coaches, new players. You know, it's early in
the season, but they're gonna have to learn how to
win ball games like that because against a veteran team,
(01:16:01):
you know, they probably don't want that one slip away.
But a team like ETSU, you know, they're still kind
of going through those growing pains of you know, new players,
new coaches. So it'll be interesting to see, you know,
how they can use this to grow throughout the season
and down in Johnsonville or Johnson City, Tennessee.
Speaker 1 (01:16:14):
That's right, Johnson City, Tennessee. Yeah, my best Darious record,
I got it for you there all I can do
in terms of wagon Wheel. But yeah, I do think Etsu,
like the running backs are good, both of them. Yeah,
and obviously they've got Irby the bigger back. They got
like and Andrew. I believe it's Houston, the smaller guy,
more of a scat back. Both of them were hard
to bring down. Their quarterback was hard to bring down.
(01:16:35):
He got he broke tackles all night.
Speaker 6 (01:16:37):
Like.
Speaker 1 (01:16:37):
The defense didn't have a good game, but any means
coach Green is not gonna be happy with their performance.
Way too many probably somewhere around twenty five missed tackles.
The penalties were just mounting up. We can all say
things about the officials and whatnot, but I thought it
was it wasn't called well throughout the game, but it
was called consistent. They were consistently calling the ticky tack
holes or this thing or that thing. You know, at
the end of the game, Ets you get called for
(01:16:57):
one of their final drive.
Speaker 31 (01:16:58):
Ye.
Speaker 1 (01:16:59):
It was on both teams though away way too many penalties.
Twelve penalties for NDSU for leave ninety four yards. Etsu
actually had ten for one hundred very round numbers, so
they had more penalty yards in this game. But things
to clean up for the penalties, things to clean up
with the misstackles, some of the defensive assignments. I didn't
think the defensive line had anywhere near their best game.
There was too much time for king back there to
(01:17:19):
throw the ball. I didn't think we were getting much
pressure there, and when we did get some pressure, we
were kind of getting out of our gaps and left
rushing lanes for him and then he would make us pay.
So I do think there's a lot of things to
clean up here on the defensive.
Speaker 4 (01:17:29):
Side, for sure, absolutely, And that's one thing, you know,
there's there's always a pluthora of things that coaches can
go over through. Hopefully you kind of try to mitigate
that by playing a good game defensively. But I know,
go and Coach Gazer and the rest of the d staff.
You know, they'll they'll be in the office tomorrow morning
about That's one thing a lot of people don't realize.
Speaker 5 (01:17:45):
These coaches they're gonna get back from this fight.
Speaker 4 (01:17:46):
They're all gonna be in the Dome tomorrow at nine
and am starting to break down this film and getting
ready for.
Speaker 5 (01:17:51):
Towson next week.
Speaker 4 (01:17:51):
But they they'll get down, they'll get in there, get
in the film room and you know, figure out, you
know what do we need to get better at?
Speaker 5 (01:17:56):
Probably a lot of things this week.
Speaker 4 (01:17:58):
But then how are we gonna fix this and be
a better defense, better offense, better team come home coming
against Telson.
Speaker 1 (01:18:04):
Gatting Backer around midnight ish, eleven thirty somewhere around there,
and then yeah, back in at nine or whatever it
is early in the morning to break down more film.
And some of the assistants were already breaking down film
with the next appoint trying to get ahead of that
stuff so they're ready for everything. When they get back
in tomorrow morning. Some other games at the FCS level,
We already mentioned Missouri State up on linden Wood. They
got to win today. They got their first win of
(01:18:26):
the season. So a good win there for Missouri State.
A win as well for SDSU against a non D
one though in Augustana win for Indiana State, a loss
for Youngstown State. How about some other scores from some
different conferences at the FCS level. You see Davis up
by three right now against Southern Utah. Southern Utah just
got an FBS win last week. Now you see Davis
(01:18:47):
up on them by three, but a minute forty left
and Southern Utah has the ball at the forty seven
yard line. That one's going on right now. Sacramento stayed
up big twenty seven to seven on Nickels sax States
zero to two, but two yes losses to Fresno State
and San Jose State. One of the top ten ranked
teams in the FCS, looks like they'll get their first
win up twenty seven to seven, was six minutes to
(01:19:08):
go in quarter number three on Nebraska. It's gone final.
They won thirty four to three against Northern Iowa. So
you and I gets their first loss of the season.
They're now two to one Nebraska three and O are
you buying stock? And Dylan Royola the hustle with the
Husker's got going on down there, Lincoln.
Speaker 5 (01:19:22):
We're getting a little bit closer to buying stock.
Speaker 1 (01:19:23):
Guartin.
Speaker 5 (01:19:24):
I like what they're doing down there.
Speaker 1 (01:19:25):
It's top twenty five rank.
Speaker 5 (01:19:26):
It's good for college football in Nebraska's good.
Speaker 1 (01:19:28):
I would agree with you Delaware, who's transitioning to that
to FBS level. They won forty two to thirteen over
North Carolina A and T today Illinois State with the
win fifty one to thirty four over Western Illinois. I
also wanted to give you some scores on the one
team out of the Big Sky tonight, that being Idaho,
who's really impressed me. They put Oregon to the test.
That was a fourteen to seven game at one point
(01:19:50):
and the third quarter. They were number three ranked Oregon
at the time. They won last week without their starting
quarterback at Wyoming, an FBS team, and now they come
into this game against you. Albany today was a playoff
team a year ago, and Idaho just wipes the floor
with them. They are in Moscow, scored thirteen points in
the first quarter, fourteen in the second, fourteen in the third,
backups in at that point forty one to thirteen. They
(01:20:11):
beat Albany. I'm gonna say it right here so everyone knows.
I'm on the record. In September, Idaho is winning the
Big Sky.
Speaker 5 (01:20:18):
I believe that Jason next he's a really good boat coach.
Speaker 1 (01:20:20):
Scott believing there's confidence in Moscow.
Speaker 4 (01:20:23):
He comes from a pedigree of South Coast State. Obviously,
he was their offensive line coach for a while there.
He knows how to win. And obviously Idaho's having a
great start to the season this year, and they're they're
gonna be a team come you know in December that
I think is going to be making some noise in
the FCS playoffs.
Speaker 1 (01:20:36):
They made some noise last year. I think they lost
a bunch of pieces, but they have recouped and he's
got them believing there. The defensive line is nasty. They
get after people and get a lot of tackles for
lost some sacks. They are a very strong defensive line.
Western Carolina beats Elon twenty four to seventeen. Rhode Island
beats Campbell twenty one to nine, New Hampshire over stone
Hill forty five to six. Mercer and Chattanooga was an
(01:20:57):
interesting one to talk about a low scoring game. The
mox had been right around that top ten ish ranked
team in the FCS so far this year they were
zero and to two but two FBS losses. Everyone was like, Okay,
I'm not worried about Chattanooga. Well, they lost again today
and they want to score three points at home against
Mercer ten to three. They lose that one. Not a
good look for Chattanooga. They're gonna drop quite a bit
(01:21:18):
in the polls. And like some of our fans said,
Andy Issues is gonna drop, well, they drop us after
a win. At the very least Chattanooga lose. You only
put up three points in that ball game. And the
next team on the schedule for INDYSU next week they
will take on Towson here at home in the home open,
or not the home open, the homecoming game, i should say.
And they played today against Villanova. Villanova won the game
(01:21:40):
fourteen to thirteen. Towson missed two field goals in the
final minute. In thirteen seconds, they missed a field goal
from forty nine and then Villanova fumbled the ball. Two
plays later, they got the ball back and missed a
thirty seven yard field goal. Tewson misses two field goals
in the final minute thirteen they lose by one at
the fifth ranked Villanova. Believe Villanova is a fifth ranked
(01:22:02):
team right now in the FCS polls. So Villanova gets
the win, that's all the matter. Is Towson very close,
but that might be a better opponent than we think.
They went on the road and almost be a top
ranked team today.
Speaker 4 (01:22:12):
And I'm guessing obviously Towson's gonna be scoreboard watching too.
They're gonna watch the film this game. They're gonna send
some blood in the water from NDSU. So we got
the guy's gotta be ready to go come home coming.
There's and there's an I was on the road for Tewson.
Speaker 1 (01:22:23):
They were at Villanova the road, and now Villanova's home
feel is not the Fargo down. It's gonna be louder far.
Speaker 5 (01:22:27):
We know that.
Speaker 4 (01:22:28):
And teams definitely know when it's someone else's homecoming, because
there's definitely coaches will be like, oh, they scheduled you
for homecoming, what do they think about you? So Tolson's
gonna have a little extra motivation in that game. And
I will say too, our brothers, the Howard Bison did
pull off the win today.
Speaker 1 (01:22:41):
So there you go, Bison. The Bison Byson always get
victories by we're talking about it also a win for
William and Mary twenty eight to twenty one over Wafford.
I agree with you on the homecoming thing. People schedule
scheduled to use you one for homecoming right. Why is
NDSU scheduled for so many homecoming games? I don't know,
Like every year they're like two people's homecoming game. It's
because everyone likes a lot of people to come back
and they know that will be a game people will
(01:23:02):
come draw. Yeah, they're trying to get a big atmosphere
for potentially beating NDASU to try and help the team,
I guess. But yeah, NDSU not the easy one for
a homecoming no, obviously, so it's some different philosophies there.
So the Bison get to win thirty eight thirty five.
Will wrap things up here, Jack, to have you reach
into our great sign up box over here. There should
just be a tab just open the top there. Pull
(01:23:23):

against Tellson next week. It is the homecoming game, pyrotechnics, entrance,
the stampede, everything else that goes into that one. We've
got a winner. He has reached in, he has pulled
it out. And the winner for two tickets to Tellson
next week.
Speaker 5 (01:23:37):
Is Marie Fawsen.
Speaker 1 (01:23:39):

for the homecoming game. Will be in contact with you

final thoughts for you on this one? Thirty eight thirty
five Bison victory.
Speaker 4 (01:23:57):

Speaker 1 (01:24:04):
We were on the verge of losing very very ugly,
but we won. It was ugly. It's a win in November.

Three seconds to go. No timeout for of up in years.
Here's a snap. It's a king, he's under pressure.
Speaker 18 (01:29:02):
Throws intercepted, intercepted by the pison. Logan cop got the interception,
and the pison are gonna get out of Johnson City
with a win.
Speaker 1 (01:29:14):
Big interception from a logan cop seals the deal for Ndius.
You you said pregame, Jake, where I'm gonna get a interception?
We need a play on defense. We're saying that to
kind of throughout the game, like defense wasn't playing well. Eds.
You just kept scoring and kind of going down the
field a little bit effortlessly, like we needed an interception.
We need it's some big play on defense. You're to
turn the Tide. It didn't come till late, but Logan
(01:29:36):
cop gets the interception to seal it there.
Speaker 5 (01:29:37):
Yeah, that was awesome too.
Speaker 4 (01:29:38):
And then we talked about situational football and that's another
opportunity for NDSU. You know, offense gets a touchdown goal play,
you know how it's a big deal to get that
stop there. Could you imagine if NDUS I probably could
have imagined that where that game went, but if any
suit was scored there and then we let Etsu drive
on the field and kick a field go to go
to overtime, right, but no, for NDC to come out
and execute you know the final you talk about like
we're playing three down line and kind of loose cover
(01:30:00):
two coverage and for lowan comp to make that play
was huge and that's gonna pay dividends down the road
because there'll be times later this season where we're gonna
need one of those stops late in games.
Speaker 1 (01:30:07):
Yeah, and they got some pressure on him too, finally
kind of flushed him out of the pocket, made him uncomfortable. Obviously,
he was in a must pass situation, which ETSUS wasn't
in mus must pass situations very often in the game,
like they had a lot of third and two s,
third and threes where everything is open to them, and
their running game really did work. Jalen King By the way,
their quarterback six to fifteen, one hundred thirteen yards, a
touchdown and a pick, only forty percent completion percentage. One
(01:30:29):
area ETSU is gonna have to get better at is
that that passing game. They had that tight end who
was given NDSU fits. He was all night, big guy, strong,
physical cock go up and catch the ball in the
air too. Seems like they got a little bit of
chemistry there in the passing game, but they do have
to get a little bit better in that that vertical
passing game before I think they're a complete team.
Speaker 5 (01:30:47):
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 4 (01:30:48):
And you know, as as they get into their conference
schedule and stuff like that, the teams are a little
bit more familiar with ETSU and their personnel. That's gonna
be big for you know, their quarterback to be a
little bit more comfortable and pushing the ball downfield.
Speaker 1 (01:31:00):
Also cam Miller twenty one of thirty three, two hundred
fifty fifty yards a touchdown, no pick, sixty four percent
completion percentage. Cole Payton oh of one is only pass
the temp was that fourth and goal from the eleven
where he got hit and the ball was basically a
duck because he got hit as he was throwing. That's
how that one went. Ten different receivers I won't go
through all of them that caught a pass today, but
Bryce Lance with five, McKay collins with four mc kay
(01:31:23):
Collins four for sixty seven yards, by the way, had
along of thirty three in there. Bryce Lance had a
rushing touchdown as well, Marty Brown with eleven carry sixty
five yards. We have Barrika Pinu with nine carries for
sixty one, Cam Miller fifteen for forty seven, TK Marshall
seven for forty one and to score in Bryce Lance
a rushing touchdown. Cam Miller also with two rushing touchdowns
(01:31:44):
in the game. When you look at the comparison between
these two teams, NDSU dominated in time of possession thirty
six forty three to twenty three seventeen. ETSU had some
big plays, especially there on their third touchdown with a
big touchdown run by RBI. They had that first possession
of the third quarter took like eight minutes off the
clock or seven minutes off the clock, But other than that,
(01:32:05):
didn't control the ball for a whole lot of time.
NDSU runs for two thirty one Etsu two seventy though
net on the ground totally yards NDSU four eighty one
to three eighty three, and passing yards a big difference
here two fifty to one thirteen. And of course the
one on side kick recovery for the bins in and
only one turnover really in this game, and it goes
(01:32:27):
to NDSU as they turned over, got the interception against Etsu.
Almost another turnover with the muffed punt, but thankfully John
Gors found back on top of that one. I don't
know how he did that. One will deny to five physics.
I need like a he's a little sports get in
there and yeah, pulled away. Many sports science they used
to do that all the time ESPN, like sports science
aid breakaway and tell you like the angle of trajectory
(01:32:48):
and force and stuff. I any of that. Someone who
explained how John Gors got that ball back off the
muffed punt, But he did. Nonetheless, I said pregame, my
key to this game was gonna be plays by Etsu.
How many plays they got off. If they got like
fifty to fifty five, I thout Ndius, you would win comfortably. Clearly,
I'm an idiot because they only got fifty four plays
in this game, believe it or not, fifty four total plays,
(01:33:09):
but they they should have won the game. Ndsu ran
seventy eight total plays in this game and average six
point two yards per play. Etsu averaged seven point one
yards per play Bison one. That's all that's gonna matter.
At the end thirty eight thirty five, they get their
victory over Etsu. Thanks to everyone that called in today.
(01:33:29):
