Stap to Camp and a play banked to Petues. Camp
stands in has all day fires back of the end
zone touchdown. He got his man Mackay Collins and the
back of the end zone and that touchdown for the
Bison eleven yard touchdown pass. It came off of play action.
Cam had all day to sit back and throw. He
(03:44):
found Collins cutting across from right to left and McKay
made the catch on the left side of the end
zone as the Bison cap off that methodical March sixteen
plays to peydrt and a thirteen to nothing lead for
the Herd four forty five to go and a half.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
What defensive issues? I didn't see any defensive issues out
there one bit. How about a big win for NDSU
as they take home coming and crush the dreams of
Redbird fans across the nation. A big win on the
road to open up Valley play forty two ten the

by Jake cavat Bison Great. I'm gonna call you. I'm
(05:07):
going with it already one year out. We're going with
Bison Great. Former Bison defensive end with US. Yeah, what
about those defensive deficiencies, those issues when we're talking about
forty two to ten. You go on the road and
you shut down an opponent in value play, that is
quite the way to open up conference place. Sir.
Speaker 4 (05:22):
Yeah, you know, just extremely you know, happy for the
response the guys showed. I know there's a lot of
questions after the you know, Towson and Etsu and just
what was this Byson team gonna be about going into
valley play. So I was just really excited, you know,
the how the guys responded to have a good week
of practice and went out and executed a game plan
on Saturday, and like Noah said in the postgame show,
you know, testament to the coaches too. You know, a
(05:42):
lot of the x's and o's and stuff and all that.
That's fifty percent on the coaches and fifty percent of
the players to go execute it. But just really happy
and that was a Bison when to go out there,
you know, put it on a team and have a
game in the fourth court where its setting down, and
put that one to bed and get onto und.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Yep, put that one to bed, like you said, go
on to und Some people were thinking, oh, un d's
next week, you got a game with Illinois State, trap gau.
Is this a trap game? Are on the road? Well,
I don't think the Bison let it be a trap game.
I think they were plenty of focused going into this one,
and I'll say their most impressive win of the seasons.
I mean, they had a more and maybe more dominant
win against Tennessee State. But this is a Valley team.
This was a ranked team. This was a three to
(06:19):
one team coming into play. I think a team many
coming into the season expected to be a bubble ish
team in the Valley. I'm not completely sure on that
with some of their results here in the non conference.
Get thirty five points to Western Illinois, but they looked
really good last week and they did not look good
this week. NDSU for this basically from start to finish,
had this game. You know, control, They're at least playing
(06:39):
the type of game they wanted to. I know it
was fourteen seven and a half, the big third quarter,
but even at halftime, I felt like the Bids were
playing their game. Just need to get a couple more
things to go and then they would pull away, which
is exactly what they did in the second half.
Speaker 4 (06:51):
Yeah, you could tell we were leaning on them up
front quite a bit in the first half, and it
was just kind of a matter of time before you know, defense,
we get a stop, offense, we're gonna score and so on.
But it'll be interesting to start, you know, kind of
scoreboard watch, you know, throughout the year. Now, see, I
don't know who Illinois State matches up with next week.
We just kind of see how they do against common opponents.
And like you said, I think, I mean they're ranked
were they sixteen eighteen right now on the FCS eighteenth? Yeah,
(07:12):
so potential playoff team, bubble team. We'll see how kind
of the season shakes out.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
But for the for them last year, it came down
to a couple of games they lost at U and
D when they could have won, and some of the
like fluky things towards the end of game.
Speaker 4 (07:24):
But yeah, so we'll see. And obviously it was a
little bit of a worry with you know, the big
rivalry game against UNDE coming up in a week, so
you're kind of worried about where's the focus out of
the guys. But obviously they went out and if they
weren't focused they didn't show up because they they put
together a great game and gotta win.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
Maybe the best game as well by the defensive line
for INNDYSU. We'll get to all of that stuff here

They go to Southern Illinois next week. Oh, the tough
(08:21):
start for for Illinois state. That's a big game for
both because Southern Illinois lost today as well.
Speaker 4 (08:24):
Down in for million, people are saying USD this might
be they might be for real this year.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
It might be. Well, let's touch on that.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
I saw a tweet today that said, uh is South
Coast State not even the best team in South Dakota.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
Oh we're starting that already. Or South Dakota State's on
a bye or just yeah, I think it was zooming
right pass It was a South Dakota beat right fin Yeah,
please do After that, it's Missouri States at Illinois State.
Then they got Murray Youngstown, Northern Iowa, Indiana State, and
und So Illinois State. People were saying a really good
chance they could maybe get into the playoffs because they
missed SDSU. They had NDSU at their place. You know,
(08:58):
a few scheduling face as well. That first one did
not go their way. ENDYSU in are out forty two
to ten. We want all of your thoughts. We'll get
them here after we take a short break, our first
break here on Bison Hotline. We'll come back icon, I
see your calling, and we've got a few more phone
calls as well. We'll get to those and some text
messages as we react to a big forty two to
ten win for NDSU. We'll come back here up to

Who made the difference today for the Bison. This is
the Dakota Refrigeration player.
Speaker 1 (13:25):
Of the game.
Speaker 9 (13:30):
Illinois State was second down at ten at its own
twenty five yard line. Two receivers right, one receiver left,
snapped to rittenhouse under pressure and he's going down. Buyson
get home. They've got a sack on a second play
in the game as Eli Mostart got through and he
drops him back at the eighteen for a.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
Loss of seven. Here you go, you hear it right there,
and you issue a big win as Eli Mostart gets
home one of a multitude of sacks for the Bones
and defensive line. That was one of our plays of
the game for NDSU, and they're forty two to ten
dominating win over Illinois State. We'll get to the total
sack numbers here in just a little bit of that. Man,
(14:11):
Eli most definitely had a huge impact here for NDSU.
Before we dive into that, how will we go over
to the phone lines, icon calling in icon? How are
you doing sir?
Speaker 18 (14:22):
Well? You know, gentlemen, after my critique of the defense
last week, apparently the coaching staff listened to us, so
they corrected it. Robert the defense for showing up. But
here's here's my complaint. I'll leave you guys with a
cool little saying. You know, when we're we're drivings for
a touchdown and our guy is pulling the pile and
(14:44):
gets in the end zone, then they say, oh, we
blew the whistle back here? Could you guys explain that
rule and why they made that rule and how upsetting
it is to the visor. I mean the inevitable obviously,
but still it's trying of on bogus And I'll leave
you guys with this. If you don't fall down again,
(15:05):
it's a sign that you're playing. Say thanks, guys, I
will talk to you all next week.
Speaker 1 (15:08):
See you then, Hey, yo, thank you. Ken. Definitely a
charged up call right there. We appreciate that from the
icon call us up seven zero one, four seven, six,
sixteen sixty. Get your thoughts from this win for DSU.
What do you think of that? There's a couple of
times the pile was getting pushed by by Marty Brown obviously,
then the offensive linemen get in there as well. Clearly
the call the reps are making his forward progress has
(15:30):
been stopped to trying to make sure the health and
safety of all the players in that pile as well,
and noodling going on at the bottom of the pile
of what are your thoughts on?
Speaker 4 (15:37):
Yeah, no, I definitely it's the way that gets blown dead. Obviously.
It's when ford progress is stopped and it's a safety
thing for players, right when there's a bunch of bodies
in there. People getting tangled up, so it ends up
being a judgment call sometimes by the referees because obviously
the player isn't down, like no part of his body's
touching the ground yet, But it's.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
A judgment call by referees.
Speaker 4 (15:54):
I think more often than not, they do a good
job of laying that playoff, like we've seen that. There's
been multiple time. I remember watching our offense. You know,
first contacts made, the running back, it set up, and
all of a sudden here comes codingm out Graysabel Cordovolsen
coming to push the pile and they push it for
ten fifteen yards. The one today, I think they probably
blew it dead a little prematurely, but obviously at the
end of the day you do have to keep the
(16:15):
guys safe and stuff like that, so that's kind of
where the ref's mind's at there.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
Marty was carrying probably three or four defenders yea itself,
and then yes, more defenders and more offensive linemen got
in pushing that pile. It was still going in my
opinion a little bit. But also I'm always okay with
that call because it's not really the ball carrier that's
keeping that momentum it's the rest of the team that
is keeping there some keeping there being some forward momentum.
(16:39):
But yeah, it's it's more of a health and safety
of everybody on the field. But it is a sense
of pride, I know for Buyson and for Buyson fans
as well, when you see, man, we're stacked up, but
we just keep on pushing another yard here, another yard there,
and you keep on moving that pile. It's definitely a
source of pride for all. I love the call there
from the icon. If you guys got any thoughts, feel
free again to call us up seven to zero one, four, seven, six,
(17:01):
sixteen sixty. You can also text us on that very
same number. Text here from a seven to one number says, hello, gentlemen,
that was a dominant win by the good guys. Expecting
that from the Benson Moore the rest of this season.
I would completely agree with you there. Let's dive into
some of the numbers here, Jake, obviously forty two to ten,
(17:21):
you see that, you see, Okay, that was a pretty
dominant win, and it definitely was. Let's start with the
defensive line, because we touched on them during beson game.
They needed to get after the quarterback a little bit,
and they had the biggest responsibility of trying to slow
down this Illinois State rushing attack that was averaging two
hundred and five yards per game on the ground. They
had been really, really good. Winkers right, was averaging one
hundred eleven yards on the ground. They were able to
(17:43):
move the pile quite a bit against their other opponents
in this game today, on twenty five carries, twenty five
rushing attempts for Illinois State, they totaled a net rushing
yards of eight, single digit of rushing yards, right, the
last time we've done that to a team. But that
was awfully impressive by the entire defense. But it starts
(18:07):
with the guys there up front.
Speaker 4 (18:08):
Yeah, with the guys up front, just to answer the
bell and kind of come out and put together performance
like they put on today. And obviously, stopping the run
isn't isn't sexy, that's not what puts people in this
in the seats, so to say. But when you look
at the four sacks, how did they get the four sacks?
Speaker 2 (18:23):
Right?
Speaker 4 (18:23):
Okay, we stopped the run. We made them one dimensional.
They had to drop back and pass, They had to
push the ball downfield. Then guys like Eli most Start,
Dylan Hendrick's the Shaka Roakes. Even you not got in
on the sat what Guinea called the sack attack or
sack yeah, something like that, something like that, Yeah, the
sack party. But uh no, I think it was just
great for the guys up front to stop through on early.
Then that let them pin their ears back and be
(18:44):
more aggressive in the pass rush later on.
Speaker 1 (18:45):
Yeah, and he got Eli Mostart who apparently just loves playing.
Yeah in normal because the last time the Bison were there,
Eli Moster had three and a half sacks. He gives
you two sacks today, including the one you heard coming
back from break, which was on just the second play
of the game. We hear that sometimes with basketball players
Jake that like I just I don't know. I like
this arena, like I shoot well here, I feel comfortable here.
(19:06):
The same way in football a little bit with the
defensive guys at all. I've never really heard that. I
mean you would know better maybe a little bit.
Speaker 4 (19:12):
Illinois State is uh not that we go to any
bat Well, mccomb's not great, but it's not to go
there anyone. Yeah, we don't go to Macomb anymore. But
it's a it's a nice town. I mean the stadiums
looks like a bigger college football stadium is a little
bit smaller. Like there's bleachers on big bleachers on both sides.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
So locker room close. Yeah, the locker rooms right, locker room.
Speaker 4 (19:30):
Is kind of grow. I don't know if they've updated it.
It was bad a couple of years ago. But uh,
locker rooms closed. Yeah, So maybe I don't know. Some
maybe he's got family in Illinois. Eli's maybe some home
cocaine here. Yeah, potentially his girlfriends from there.
Speaker 5 (19:41):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (19:41):
You just like the stage they feel good about there
are just have one good game by happenstance and then
it's like every time you just remember that one again.
Speaker 4 (19:49):
Good feeling, good bye, and out.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
To you a little bit. So he had two sacks today,
like you said, the Shaka getting in there as well.
And again the rushing numbers to give up eight in
a game is awfully impressive. And we got another phone
call here from Cody in Argo calling us up here
on Bison Hotline. Cody, what are your thoughts from this
win for the Bison.
Speaker 19 (20:06):
Defense?
Speaker 20 (20:06):
Will tell you it's back to its normal, you know.
The Bison defense code green were used to. I was
very impressed with the run, with the runstop on the defense. Well,
let's talk about the offensive line and uh cam Miller.
You know, offensive line, he gave him all day to
throw the ball. And then also the trust and maturity
of trusting all the wide receivers. He's not just throwing
it to Lance, He's auditioned it to everybody, and I
(20:29):
think that's gonna help us out later on in the season.
Speaker 12 (20:31):
Hang up and listen.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
Thank you, Cody. I appreciate that. Yeah, that was just
it was really good. Buy in the issue and all aspects,
especially offensively. Cam Miller playing exceptional. H What do you
make of his thoughts.
Speaker 4 (20:44):
On that one? Yeah, like you said, like if you
can give caim like, cam Miller's good when he's under pressure,
he's just a good quarterback. But if you can give
him time to sit back there, he's gonna dissect defenses
all throughout this conference play schedule. But uh yeah, and defensively,
like we said, stepped up stop the run. You know,
they answered the bell. There was a lot of talk.
I mean it was on social media, it was in
the coaches Show. There's a lot of concern about this
(21:05):
NDSU defense this year, and I think as of right now,
they answer those concerns. But we know there's a much
better team coming to the p Firodome next week, and
I think, put together another performance like that and then
think you're gonna play a lot of these doubters.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
Put those concerns to beds. Yep. Every week, there's a
new test every week. Yeah, it doesn't matter what we
did in the previous test. You gotta, you know, finish
it and do a week in and week out. That's
why it is. The Valley is a tough, tough conference.
And we've already laid out what this next month is
going to be for NDSU. First game, first opponent, first test,
whatever you want to label it. Tests. That one was past,
(21:38):
that one is done, a new one away to NDSU
next week when they get to come back home into
the friendly confines of the Fargo Dome. But they were
taken on the team from up the road at und
from Grand Forks, and they had quite the day offensively themselves.
We'll get to that a little bit later on. We
also have a text coming in here from a seven
to one to nine number just saying ladies and gentlemen.
That was Bison football. And I couldn't agree with you more,
(21:59):
ma'am or sir whoever. That was when the Colorado area
code texting into Bison hotline. We appreciate you listening one
hundred percent. That felt like Bison football. Yeah, it was
fourteen seven and a half. It wasn't like it was
twenty four to three and a half or something like that.
It was a close game there. We did have a
fumble by cam I had a missed field goal at
the end of that first half, even though it was
fifty plus Eliosi pushing that one a little bit off
(22:20):
to the right. But even at fourteen seven at phelic
end of us who for the most part was able
to have their performance they want. But really the second
half adjustments, so that's been a thing as well, like
we've had some games like Colorado came out and kind
of slowed us down that second half, was able to
score on us a little bit Towson last week. Just
second half haven't been asked clean. I love that we
didn't see any lull or any let up from this
(22:41):
team throughout the entire four quarters. Was it a perfect game? No,
not at all, but it was it felt like a
four quarter performance still.
Speaker 4 (22:47):
Yeah, And when I was really impressed with two is
at the point where Camdller scrambleden late in the second quarter.
I got that ball tapped out and got a turnover.
And for Codgreen to come back on the defense, sudden change, right,
sudden change is a huge as defense feeling as an opportunity,
it's a it's a huge part of the game, has
a challenge. And for Codgreen to come out there, I think,
do they get a three and out?
Speaker 1 (23:05):
Yeah, Dylan Hendricks got a sack.
Speaker 4 (23:07):
Yeah, we got a three and out, and you know,
got the ball back to the offense. If they don't
come out and respond well. In that situation, Illinois State
goes down. We're possibly ten to fourteen, fourteen fourteen at halftime,
and then you're looking at a whole different ball game.
But to get that stop, get the ball out coming
out a halftime, go down, score, go up twenty one,
or do we.
Speaker 1 (23:24):
Score or a half time Yeah, made.
Speaker 4 (23:26):
A twenty one seven and go up two scores and
then obviously then kind of the defense got another stop
and then the game was over. But that that was
a big turning point. In the game.
Speaker 1 (23:35):
Here you look at NDSU on defense, tackles for a
loss or a sack by like you said, Enoxy Bamana
two by Eli Mostart, one by Dylan Hendricks, one by
the Shaka Rokes, continuing to get in there. Defensively, the
secondary wasn't tested a whole lot. They had a couple
of plays. There's one where there's a RPO or a
busted coverage or something that one guy got away, and
(23:56):
then they had the one flea flicker play that was
kind of a jump ball that they won. Really just
two plays where they made anything. Illinois States offense was
able to do anything substantial really was on those two
plays that happened to be on the same drive.
Speaker 4 (24:07):
Yeah, yeah, and that's tough that that RPO play. I
think it was just kind of bad eyes by the
cornerback obviously looked like read option and got out on
the edge. And if I was will if I was
a betting man, if we had a wide view of that,
I bet there's an offensive lineman downfield. Yeah, it could
have they could have called that on, but uh no,
just two plays and at the end of the day,
you know, you want to try to limit as many
explosive as you can, but if you're only giving up.
(24:29):
I think our goal on defense was always it was.
I think it was the way we charted, it was
an explosive play, it was a run of ten yards
or more passive twenty. I think our goal is to
have less than seven each game. I think today the
same the day they had two.
Speaker 1 (24:43):
So I had the two.
Speaker 4 (24:44):
Yeah, so that's that's obviously a positive for the defense.
Speaker 1 (24:46):
Yeah, one hundred right there with you continue to send

This is the Dakota refrigeration player of the game.
Speaker 1 (29:08):
Now under seven to play.
Speaker 9 (29:09):
First quarter, no score, second down from the sixth little
pop pass to a jet sweeping Bryce Lance.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
That Bryce is.
Speaker 9 (29:16):
Into the episode for the touchdown. Touchdown in the su
Bryce Lance on a little jet sweep curling around the
right end, a six yard touchdown and just like that,
the Byson strike first. They laid six to nothing with
six forty five to play in the first quarter.
Speaker 1 (29:35):
Here in normal first touchdown of the game, going to
Bryce Lance. Right there, that little pop pass the Jets
sweep action. He just knocked that one forward a little
bit and Bryce takes it the rest of the way.
It is his fourth straight game with a touchdown. On
Bryce Land's eight receptions sixty five yards including that touchdown
right there. He is under Quota Refrigeration DRI Player of

Bryce Lance eight for sixty five in his fourth straight game,
finding the end zone.
Speaker 4 (30:47):
Yeah, you know, it was a great way to start
off the game. Obviously, that little jet touch passes, it's
found its way into college ship obviously because it brace
bobbles at or fall. It's an incomplete pass.
Speaker 1 (30:56):
Which is all worry about a fumble there everything.
Speaker 4 (30:58):
Yep, yep. And then love to see TK Marshall, who
obviously I think we've kind of haven't talked about him
as much. The block he laid out for Bryce Lance
on that touchdown was just as it was the most
important part of that play. So to have a senior
leader like that, you know in on a was it
third down or I think it was second their second
onund but a play you know you're not getting the
ball to go out and you know block your tail
(31:19):
off and make that play for Bryce. You know, that's
that's what being a Bison's about. That's what's being a leader,
you know, doing anything you can to help the team win.
And you know, hats out to Tk and throwing a
great block on that touchdown.
Speaker 1 (31:28):
Well done, very well said. Absolutely as important as anything
Bryce did. It was the second and goal, second and
goal from the six there, and TK is someone we
haven't talked a lot about, but he's been great in
pass protection, been great. There is that kind of third
down back along to be able to spell Marty and
and Barrico, who both had really good games today in
this one. And we've now seen this for at least
(31:49):
two maybe three touchdowns on the year where Bryce is
getting something in the backfield yep, and he's you know,
jet sweep or an end around or something like that
where he's getting the ball but ahead of steam and
they love his vision and his athleticism and his speed
there getting into the en zone.
Speaker 4 (32:02):
Yeah, that's doesn't say Bryce Lance has a really good vision.
He sees the field well as a receiver, which sometimes
they don't have that right you know, you go ahead
guys in the NFL, like Tyreek Hill has unreal vision.
There's other receivers that they're really good at running round
and catching the ball, maybe don't have that running back
type vision that you know we see with a guy
like Bryce Lance. I think Eli Green had good vision
stuff like that. So yeah, it's been cool to see
(32:23):
Coach Lander, you know, use Bryce Lance out of the
backfield on jet sweeps and stuff.
Speaker 1 (32:26):
And then you see people who have the vision and
the oh my goodness speed like a Tyreek hill. Yeah,
Christian Watson to a second extent as well, it's like, oh,
great vision and you're just freakishly fast. Yeah, and Bryce
is a little bit of that, but definitely the vision
part there. As he got in the end zone for
his fourth straight game. He is our dri player of
the game.
Speaker 4 (32:44):
Now.
Speaker 1 (32:44):
The text came in here you can text us seven
zero one four seven six sixteen sixty says exceptional job
by the quarterbacks, the rams and the running backs. Is
it the scheme change or just that we have found
the right combination for the defense? They played very eat
well today from Tadak the Polish Bison texting in that
question II though, to you, Jake, do you think there
(33:06):
was something schematically that looked different today? You think it
was just players were playing better. You think, hey, this
is like we're just gelling as a team. A little
bit took a while to come together. Now it seems
like maybe they're hitting their strike. No, this scheme hasn't.
Speaker 4 (33:17):
The scheme has been the scheme since Oh gosh, I
think that Gus Bradley brought the game the scheme has
been the scheme for a long time. Yeah, and it'll
continue to be this scheme. But uh, I just think
the guys just they they know what they're They just
played better. I mean there's kind of no if, no
way to kind of they were playing bad football the
last couple weeks. It's kind of as simple as that,
(33:39):
Like the Bison were bad at football defensively the last
two weeks, and today they were good at football. I
mean it's as easy as that. So I don't know,
did maybe coach Polsek light a fire in or someone
pregame to g O, you know, maybe drop a bad
word here or there got the guys fired up, But
uh no, I just think they kind of came out
and they executed that we weren't executing. We were missing fits,
we were doing stuff that you know, you normally don't
(34:00):
see what the Bison defense last couple of weeks, and
I think today, you know, they figured it out and
took a step forward.
Speaker 1 (34:04):
Yeah, just played better. They better. Last week they played fine.
I mean that first after they gave three points, it
was like, oh, there's like a quarter length of a
lull where things just kind of fell apart a little
bit and that was worries some Well, it then happened today.
They played really well, especially defensively the entire game. A
number of three and outs, some sacks in there, and
we've already been through a few of the numbers, but
let's go through the offensive numbers here for Illinois State
(34:27):
to kind of drive home the point of how dominant
this defensive performance was for NDSU. We already gave you
the sack numbers, five different sacks, four different players. Tommy
Rittenhouse ten of fourteen, one hundred and thirty two yards,
didn't throw a pick, didn't throw a touchdown, seventy one
completion percentage. It does give him a one to fifty rating,
but that's a bad day on only one hundred and
(34:47):
thirty two passing yards.
Speaker 4 (34:48):
There.
Speaker 1 (34:48):
Rubley ends up going seven of nine for sixty six passing.
But the real one here is they are rushing numbers wankers.
Right who had been averaging one hundred and eleven yards
per game, had nine cares for twenty four yards. One
touchdown was a long of eight yards, average two point
seven per carry. And that's really where any sort of
somewhat positive numbers life. If you want to call twenty
(35:09):
four yards on nine carries. Positive After there, it's you know,
two carries for one yard, three for six, two for six,
no touchdowns, longs of four, the quarterbacks obviously being sacked.
The number of times they lost some numbers there on.
The rushing totals with the sacks ends up being twenty
five carries for a total of eight yards, and they
did have that one rushing touchdown, but Dysu just didn't
(35:32):
really give them much space to really breathe. That felt
like dy Usu was on them really from the start.
You look at the total plays in this game too,
Dysu a pretty big advantage seventy one to forty nine,
held them under fifty total plays. There was a lot
of three and outs. There wasn't a lot of opportunity
for Illinois State against this Byson defense.
Speaker 4 (35:50):
Yeah, the NSU defense really just incinerated the run game
from ISU, and I think that led to them being
able to pin their ears back and you'll get after
them and get five five Yeah, but get five sacks.
So that's a good number. I mean, if you can
get to the quarterback. I always say like three sacks
in a game is a pretty good number. But when
you're getting four or five sacks a game, that's huge
because yeah, a thing, you get one sack and that's
(36:11):
a drive killer. Right, you're gonna lose about right, six
seven yards. You hope that gets your team off the field.
But yeah, great, great game from the defense and offense
just kept doing what offense has been doing the last
couple weeks.
Speaker 1 (36:20):
Five sacks for thirty eight yards. They had two of
them in the first half. I think give us some
credit to the offense too. You get up by three
or four scores all of a sudden, you know this
is the defensive and I'm pinning my ears back. We're
coming after you because I know you have to throw. No,
it's gonna be longer developing routes than I know I'm
gonna have a chance to get to the quarterback. So
sure it all works together. We know that. And when
the offense can be as efficient as they were, continuing
to put up points, putting pressure on the opposing offense
(36:42):
to do something that allows NDSU's defense to get after
them a little bit. NDSU's offense was just super efficient
as well. Three hundred and seven net rushing yards in
this game. You also have eighty eight percent completion percentage
from your quarterbacks. That is an unreal that's a video
game number. Yeah, twenty one of twenty four right there.
The only negative on offense was the one fumble by
(37:02):
cam Miller. I guess you could point to that as
one negative. He'll learn from that, he'll get better. Thirty
eight fifty seven to twenty one h three time of possession.
That's over seventeen nearly eighteen more minutes of time of
possession in this game as well. And also on the road.
Four penalties twenty seven yards. That's a clean game. Four
for twenty seven. There was a fall start, there was
(37:24):
like one hole that it was just I don't even
remember all the penalties were. They was just a pretty
clean game by Yusu.
Speaker 4 (37:29):
Yeah, and I think that's one thing too that you know,
you got to hang your hat onto and you go
on the road. Getting a road wins hard enough. But
when you start beating yourself with penalties, pre snap penalties,
you know, ones that can be avoided. I can I understand,
you know, pass interference sometimes even holdings like those those
are judgment calls by I arrest. But when you're getting
delay a game, illegal formation fall starts out like those
are all penalties that you one hundred percent can eliminate
(37:52):
just by self inflicted self inflicted mounds exactly. So to
be able to go on the road and they'll play
play clean game, that's huge.
Speaker 1 (37:58):
And you know, helping your chances to win the I
want to give you some credit because you were like,
no stro damis over here. Because we talked about red
zone efficiency in pregame. I was like, du twenty fifth
in the country red zone efficiency. To score more touchdowns,
you said, I want zero red zone trips. I don't
even want to get to the red so I get
some big plays in here. And Dysu was better in
that category. No field goals. They did have a couple
(38:19):
of red zone attempts here, but two for two on
the touchdowns there ozer for one for Illinois State that
did not score a touchdown in the red zone today.
That's great on both of those categories.
Speaker 4 (38:30):
Yeah, I mean, obviously there's a it's a double edged sword.
Right Offensively, you want to be good in the red
zone defense. You want to be good in the red
zones they don't score. But anytime you can limit teams
to either a field goal or hopefully get a turnover
and have them not score as awesome. And then offensively
you have to finish in the head zone. We'd always
say the defense, you know, field goals don't get your
beat if you can get a team in the red zone,
like I think NDSU did in the third quarter. I
(38:52):
think when they held them to three, that's that's a
huge momentum builder for the defense. And then offensively you got.
Speaker 1 (38:57):
To be able to punch it in and the score
Ilois they did at the one rushing touchdown in the
red zone, so for one fuel goal in the red zone,
so they scored on both, but they are one touchdown
on those two trips. NDSU five trips of the red
zone they score four touchdowns there, twenty eight points in
the red zone. Had that one red zone turnover that
was technically in the red zone for camp by the
time he had fumbled at he was inside a twenty
(39:18):
was before the play. They weren't in, but he would
have been in as that play was going on. I
believe it is how that one gets charted down. So
NDSU pretty good once again in the red area. There

got a feeling after this one today because a lot
of people saying that looked like Bison football a little
bit more like we expect weekend and week out. Now,
you don't just wave a magic wand and get to
do that every single week. It doesn't happen that way.
You got to go out and earn it. But that
looked like Bison football for sure. Andy Rickoff and Jake
(45:11):
Cavet here with you. Matt says on our Bison sixteen
sixty Twitter page. Here you can comment there or on
one of seven point nine in the Fox. He says,
last week was all questions about how many points we
need to win Valley games with the defensive performances. If
coach Olsen and crew keep consistent games within today's performance
will be tough to beat. Also one two running back
(45:32):
punch is back and fun with Marty and Barrika. We'll
start there on the second point. The running back spot
is he here Berrika with the touchdown coming back. We
said it in pregame. I think you actually said it is. Hey,
three touchdowns for Marty last week. Who knows, maybe this
week it's it's Berrika for a couple. Well, he did
get a couple of Marty got in there as well.
That running back tandem is really starting to pick up
(45:54):
some steam.
Speaker 4 (45:54):
Yeah, you know, having that one to two punch kind
of brings me back to you know, back Bruce Anderson,
Lance Dunn, Tya, you know, John Crocket, Samuel Jury, you know,
some of the great one two punches and Eastus had
Brooks and Done in the back of Brooks and Done.
Oh yeah, but no, it's been awesome, and they do
a really good job complimenting each other in the run game.
They bring a little different flavor, a little different pace.
(46:15):
I think, you know, Marty's a little bit more kind
of that home run hitter type. Back Brieca is a
little bit bigger, can get downhill a little bit better.
They both catch the ball extremely well. So I just
think it's you know, it's an advantage for us offensively,
and it creates headaches for opposing defensive coordinator. Sufter game
plan for both those guys.
Speaker 1 (46:30):
Yeah, Brika eight carries thirty two yards. Marty Brown follows
up that twenty four carry one hundred and twenty four
yard performance against Toleson with seventeen carries for a nice square,
clean even one hundred yards right on the one hundred
yard count right there also a touchdown for Marty Brown.
And then through the air, you said they both can
catch the ball. Well, Barica definitely got a couple of them.
(46:50):
How about two receptions forty six yards and a touchdown
Marty Brown one reception for seventeen yards. And to Cam's
credit as well on that highlight coming back the bring
blitz they brought to at least six I think they're
bringing a safety there as well. Might have been seven
they were bringing, or at least six they were bringing
on that blitz quickly got it out to break it
and there was nobody. It was a great play called
by Jake Landry and then a great execution by the team.
(47:13):
I think Cam's becoming one of those quarterbacks. But it's
hard to blitz because it kind of knows where it's
coming from. We saw the same thing against Etsu. They
brought pressure, just threw that one up to John Gorgs
as he knew he was going to have him there.
He's just kind of a step ahead right now. If
you're bringing pressure, it's it's at your own risk right now.
Speaker 4 (47:27):
Yeah, especially with the amuntal football, A cam Miller's seen
I don't know how many games he started now, it's
gotta be up in the forties or fifties something something
crazy like that. But no, like you said, it's it's
kind of a mute point to blitz him now just
because he's so he's seen so many blitzer and he's
comfortable with you know, if I can tell they're bringing
you know, spear from the boundary, you know, I know
my quick reads is slant over here. And like you said,
(47:48):
he saw they were bringing cat from the boundary today
and hit break on a little swing route that more
often not when you throw that pass, you're thinking, now
we'll get maybe four or five yards and get on
the second down because there's out that blitz got it
out and there goes a Brica for a long touchdown pass.
Speaker 1 (48:02):
So yeah, no, just having someone back there like that.
Speaker 4 (48:04):
And we've been so spoiled as NBSU, as an alumni,
as fans, as this community. The quarterback play this region
is accustomed to the past fifteen years. Is just I meant,
you'd be hard pressed to find another college football team.
That's how the type of quarterback play we've had. I think,
like maybe Alabama think ours might be better than Alabama, Oklahoma, Oklahoma.
(48:26):
I mean just the guys you've had our signor caller
like it's you know, Steve Walker to Brock Jensen to
Carson Wentz to East and Stick to Trey Lance to
Cam Miller like I feel bad for the next kid.
Speaker 1 (48:37):
Yeah, well we've said that for the last couple and
it just keep going and going and going. He had
a senior from sol and Iowa was having a heck
of a career and a really really good final senior season.
He was dying amite once again. And then if you
said earlier it's about passing the tests, right, well, you
keep on blitzing them. He's just got the answer to
the test right now. He knows, Okay, if they're bringing
this pressure, what do I gotta do?
Speaker 16 (48:57):
Now?
Speaker 1 (48:57):
It's one thing too if it's you know third, well
I've got trying and still get the first down here.
I think that's some of the things that we'll go
into that but they blit some couple of times a day,
and he made him pay each and every time. Let's
take a look at some of the scores as well
across the country. You know, we got a few more
text messages coming in. We'll get to all of those
as well. If you're here at applebe's stopping up to
the table. Everything up here completely free. Take what you
(49:18):
want here at the front. And also you can sent
m to win NDSU und tickets. But he going to
look at some of the scores from across the country.
We will start off at the FBS level actually, and
any scores surprise you here, Jake. First off, Michigan survives
against Minnesota. We were watching that one a little bit
before NDSU kind of got going, and as the Bison
game got going, Michigan holds on twenty seven to twenty four.
(49:41):
Against the Gophers, they try to come back a little
bit of a questionable at least at best call on
an on side kick, but Michigan does survive twenty seven
to twenty four at home.
Speaker 4 (49:51):
Yeah, Gophers get another moral victory. You played Michigan close.
Good job Gophers, but no, I think they definitely did
get kind of a bad call go there. I think
they got the on side kick and they had all
momentum to go down. You know, field go to force
course over time, but that's the way it goes. Uh Yeah,
moral victory for the gofers. They have a lot of
those in the PJ.
Speaker 1 (50:10):
Fleck era twenty seven to twenty four Michigan with the
win right there. How about k State? A victory for
Chris Climbing and company and a pretty dominant one in
that forty two to twenty number twenty three Kansas State
over number twenty Oklahoma State. Good bounce back after a
disappointing game last week. Chris Climbing squads don't tend to
have those kind of weeks back to back.
Speaker 4 (50:29):
Yeah, No, for sure. And that's just like you said,
And that was exactly what I was thinking. You know,
a tough loss to it was Tulane b y U
e y U, b y U e y You beat
him b yu at pretty convincingly by b y u
at night is a that's a pretty cool atmosphere out there.
That's a pretty pretty cool atmosphere. But yeah, you know,
Coach Climbing, obviously he was my first He recruited me
to n s U. Absolutely loved the guy. I love
(50:50):
his family, but yeah, he's.
Speaker 1 (50:52):
Not gonna his team's not going to play two bad
games in a row. Not gonna happen. Oklahoma were watching
this one as we got here to applebee Is right
before the show got going, twenty seven to twenty four.
Oklahoma beats Auburn. At Auburn, it was twenty one to
ten in the fourth quarter, and then Oklahoma rattles off
a touchdown, then an interception return for a touchdown sixty
(51:13):
three yards and a field goal. They win it twenty
seven to twenty one. Get a win there. In SEC play,
USC beats Wisconsin thirty eight to twenty one. Notre Dame
beats Louisville thirty one twenty four. The Shakers so far
today is un ranked Kentucky going into Ole Miss and
getting a win against the Rebels twenty to seventeen. Six
ranked Old Miss falls today, so there is a top
(51:35):
ten team getting defeated. Also number twenty four Texas A
and m twenty one to seventeen over Arkansas. On the
game we're all getting ready for here kicking off in
oh ten minutes or so, are going to be number
four Alabama hosting number two Georgia. The lines just to
get into the outer perimeter of the stadium. Brian Denny
down there. Pretty special. I think this one's going to
(51:56):
be a Rockets atmosphere. Yeah, and they just kind of
did a fly by the crowd here in tuscal Loose.
I mean, I got goosebumps right now. This is what
college football is about. Just the patentry behind at Georgia Alabama,
two of the top programs in the country. Coach to
Borr who's got ties ties up.
Speaker 4 (52:11):
Here in the area, and it's just awesome and gosh,
how can you not be romantic about college football?
Speaker 1 (52:16):
Yeah, and we love the Fargo and I love every
single chance I get to go to a game here
in Fargo. But there's certain areas I'd love to go
to Tuscaloose game. I feel what the energy I was
like Big House as well, certain different spots, you know,
the Rose Bowl they get to go to some of
those spots. Is pretty darn special. Also about a white
out and Happy Valley another one that'd be pretty special.
Number nine Penn State hosting number nineteen Illinois. That game
(52:39):
also at six point thirty coming up here in just
a couple of minutes. Brett Bielima, their head coach, earlier
this week said, I was asked about you know, it's
it's supposed to be uh, you know, wide out kind
of noise, white out level noise, and goes, what does
that even mean? Oh, fans didn't take that one too well. Yeah,
it's gonna be a Rockets atmosphere there in a happy
valley for repents and Illinois will keep an eye on
(53:01):
those games as well. I about a look though at
some valley scores from today. It is the first day
of conference play across the entire valley. A few teams
are off SDSU, and you and I both off today.
NDESU beats Illinois State now, but Indiana State in a
non conference game, they lose at home to Houston Christian
Not really a surprise there, but now the rough year
in Tara Hat they're now one and three. Southern Illinois
(53:22):
traveled down to us D. We thought this should be
a really good game and a good kind of litanus
test for both of these programs. Definitely passing the test
for one team. Another one's got some issues right now.
USD wins it forty two to thirteen. This game was
never in doubt. I know Southern Illinois is on their
backup quarterback right now, but that was awfully impressive by
the Kyotes going in there and up fourteen to nothing
(53:44):
after the first quarter. They'd scored twenty one points then
in the second quarter, and they just completely ran away
with this ball game from start to finish. Their quarterback
Aiden Bowman eleven of seventeen two forty seven and two touchdowns.
Travis Tynes twenty five carries one hundred and forty seven
yards two scorel was on the ground. Coyotes, they look
legit once again.
Speaker 4 (54:03):
Yeah, that that game and U S S N D
s U U S D that game. I think it's
our last game. I could be a Missouri Valley championship
game potentially if both teams battle for a top seed.
Speaker 1 (54:14):
Yeah, battle for a top seed. But no, theyre us.
Speaker 4 (54:16):
He's got some good stuff going down there in Vermilion. Uh, Vermillion.
It's a funny, terrible town. Sorry for the Vermillion, but
not a whole lot going on.
Speaker 1 (54:23):
Not a fan, not a fan of Vermillion, but coded
is also the last time you played there though, pretty
good memory, Yeah, it was. It was a good time
in the playoffs, even though they didn't let us our
fans have tickets, which is kind of low bowl.
Speaker 4 (54:34):
But uh no, I think they're code playoffs. Yeah, playoffs.
Sorry that sorry that the Harvard of the North up
here just has geniuses that we can just infiltrate.
Speaker 1 (54:42):
But figured it out.
Speaker 4 (54:45):
But no, they're doing good down there, and I think
that's definitely a disappointing performance from s I U. I expected,
you know, I don't know if I expected them to win,
but I expected to be a battle and they kind
of went in there.
Speaker 1 (54:54):
And I know you're worried about their defense right now
than anything exactly.
Speaker 4 (54:58):
Yeah, you're giving up points like that. That's not like
it's but yeah, we'll see. It's early. But I don't know.
Speaker 1 (55:04):
They lost a lot of pieces on defense last year,
and we thought they could just retool.
Speaker 4 (55:09):
It's maybe harder with the portal and just the way
college balls at right now. You know, it's it's tough
to be good year in a year out, which it's
a testamentino teams like SGSU NDSU Montana stay like it's
hard to be good every year.
Speaker 1 (55:22):
Yeah, when you're turning over players a year in and
year out, I'm about a win today for Missouri State
thirty eight to thirty one at home against Youngstown State.
The Bears get the victory. They moved to three and two.
It was a barn burner back and forth. They scored
a touchdown with eight seconds left, Lance Mason a five
yard touchdown pass from Jacob Clark, the quarterback who's been
really really special so far for Missouri State, and they
(55:43):
win at thirty eight to thirty one. Youngstown State, by
the way, then drops to one and four on the season.
The Missouri State's quarterback Jacob Clark again twenty one of
twenty nine for three to twenty five and three touchdowns.
Just another really impressive performance by their quarterback. I know
they're not I could be playoff eligible and they're leaving
the conference after this year, but I'd be leaving it
on a on a high ISSU. No, they look like
(56:05):
a good Missouri State squad.
Speaker 4 (56:06):
Right do we have Missouri State this year? And we
do they come to the DOMEA that would be a
fun game. They've always been one of those teams. I
think I said this a couple of weeks ago, when
when they step off the bus, that's one of the
most physically, they look the part of one of the
best teams in the Valley year.
Speaker 1 (56:20):
They look together. Yeah, yeah, they have.
Speaker 4 (56:21):
They have some good looking not well you know you
know what, Yeah, I know what you say. Yeah looking. Yeah,
but no, they're uh, they're playing well and that is
kind of unfortunate that they're not playoff eligible this year.
But obviously you know it's Patrino. Who's that who's their
head coach down there?
Speaker 1 (56:37):
Ryan Beard?
Speaker 15 (56:37):
Now?
Speaker 1 (56:38):
Oh Ryan, yeah, yeah, because it was Patrino. Yep, yeah,
now it's his uh brother or son in law.
Speaker 4 (56:44):
Son in law. I know there's a connection there somehow. Yeah. No,
they're playing well and it'll be a fun game they
come up to the farted.
Speaker 1 (56:49):
Yeah, that game is going to be here for the
Harvest Bowl November six Harvard Senior Day as well. There
will be on November sixteenth, the second to last week
of the raky season. But they look good. And we
talked about this next month of games with Illinois State,
und Southern Illinois and SDSU being important. You look at
the very end, miss Every State and USD those will
(57:11):
be very good teams as well. Like you said, the Valley,
it just really never stops that's up.
Speaker 4 (57:16):
And then obviously Murray's I mean they put up thirty
five points on you and D. Obviously it looks like
their defense is a little suspect horus. Yeah, but uh,
Murray State, obviously they have a head head coach, they
have a quarterback coach and zeb Nolan that's extremely familiar
with what NDS is gonna try to do, so you
never know what they're gonna have dialed up. And Yeah,
the schedule is it's a good schedule this year, especially
for our home fans. I think last year was kind
(57:36):
of a lackluster home schedule, but this year we got
a big games at home, starting with the one next week.
Speaker 1 (57:42):
I'd almost rather have SDSU and U and D separate. Yep.
So they like one you're getting one of them every year,
or two at home one year and the next year
that both on the road. You mentioned the Murray State game.
Un D wins it seventy two to thirty five. If
you liked points, this was the game for you. I've
got something to sell you.
Speaker 4 (57:59):
Fin I think the over hit in the second quarter,
so well, one surprise betters are happy with that one.
Speaker 1 (58:03):
Un D scored twenty four points in the first quarter,
twenty four points in the second quarter, seventeen points in
the third quarter as well. Murray State was leading this
game early, fourteen to ten. They had two touchdown runs
Jaydon Johansson their their quarterback fifty eight yards and they
had Quadarius Jennings running back sixty five yards as well.
They're up fourteen to ten. But then bo Belquest forty
(58:24):
one yard touchdown Isaiah Smith the thirty three yard touchdown
for you and D I'm laughing because all these touchdowns
are just like, they're all explosive plays. They're all very long,
lengthy ones. Here in the first half, Isaiah Smith a
seventy four yard pass from Simon runfell Right a big
big plays in this game. Defense definitely optional. Seventy two
to thirty five. You look at it from two ways.
For the un D standpoint if you're an NDSU fan,
(58:45):
obviously we know we face und next week. One standpoint
is hey face the Valley team and put up seventy
two points on them. I don't care how new they
are to the conference. It's a team seventy two points
on them. The other side of it is tas Murray
Staton gave up thirty five points, so you can look
at it from both perspectives.
Speaker 4 (58:59):
Probably there's definitely an I would challenge Bison fans who've
been upset with the NDSU tackling on defense, go watch like.
Speaker 1 (59:05):
The first half of Murray State UND. There are some
bad tackling going on both sides of the ball.
Speaker 4 (59:10):
So sometimes you just got to take a check and
take a look over at other other programs, like, oh,
maybe maybe we do tackle better than I think, but
I know it'll be interesting. I think seventy two points,
that's obviously Murray State's defense is not good. NDSU has
a much better defense, But the thirty five points that
UND gave up, I definitely think coach Landing ability use
(59:32):
that and you know, find some find some areas that
his former employer right lacking.
Speaker 1 (59:38):
Is Alma mater. Yeah, well it's a big game for him.
I'm sure former un D quarterback can be playing in
his former school. They are in U and D, a
school he was employed at for a brief bit before
becoming the NDSU offensive coordinator. One thing I'll say for
next week, I don't know what we gotta do, but
maybe double team bo belquiz or something. I don't know.
But the other receivers is is a Smith. Okay, they
(59:58):
got a couple other guys, but it's it's really the
bow Bell Quiz Show at the receiver position. He had
three receptions for one two touchdowns today. That guy's averaging
I think like thirty yards of catch. All of his
catches are deep, big plays, double moves, sending them on
goal routes, and he's making the catches. That's someone that
you're gonna have to be aware of in the secondary
and do not be biting on those double moves for sure.
Speaker 4 (01:00:19):
And then we talk too about guys that you know,
Bryce Lance that has that kind of that vision for
after the catch. That's one thing. Bow Bell Quiss's exceptional
as when he catches the ball, he's extremely tough to
get down. I think I think it was his first
touchdown today. You know, he caught on the sideline, made
two guys miss and got into the end zone. Like
his ability to get open and catch the ball obviously
is one thing, but then getting him to the ground
after he catches it's going to be another huge key
to the game next week.

No quarterback is third down at eleven for the Illinois
State twenty five yard line motion from Eddie cast right
to left. Bison bring four Rubley under pressure. They got him,
They got him from behind. Well, Shaka rokes with a
blind side sack and once again Tod Green gets off
the field quick with a third second of the ball game.
Speaker 1 (01:05:40):
Another sack right there for NDSU, part of the dominant
forty two to ten win for the Herd over Illinois State.
We're back here with you Live at Applebee's. How about
the Shaka Roaks getting in on the activity or mentioning
him kind of all season long, had a great offseason.
Looks like he's really trying to take advantage of this
year for himself and the opportunity with opportunity to be
(01:06:00):
had at the defensive line coming in to the season.
Great to see Lashatka get on the end of a
sack right there. Yeah, I know, I was really excited
for Shock there. Obviously.
Speaker 4 (01:06:08):
I think, like you said, he's one of the guys.
I think had one of the best offseasons with Coach
Kramer in the weight room and in the film room
with Coach Gazers. So he's been playing at another level
this year. It's fun to see him today. Finally, you know,
get one of those splash pits, uh splash plays and
cash him.

plays there. That Bison defense and a dominant defensive effort.

(01:07:23):
get ten entries towards a chance to win a trip
for two to the Super Bowl. I would go to
the Super Bowl, so wants to bring me with? We
all know is going to include the Minnesota Vikings. Yeah,
so you get a chance to watch the Vikings in
the Super Bowl. They're three and oh Sam Darnold will
be your MVP. And the Vikings won't lose a game.
It's gonna be great. We just need to know who
they're going to face.
Speaker 4 (01:07:41):
They just keep getting hired and high or so when
this letdown comes, such a fall from such a high
pedestal that Vikings fans will never recover.
Speaker 1 (01:07:48):
Well, I not do that. That's a new way of
doing this. I've never done it like that before. I
believe New Orleans for the super Bowl this year. I
think I'm right on that one. Off the double check
and look right, that would be with the next Super Bowl.
Plus here at Applebee's great happy hour specials, half price
apps two times a day, three to six pm and
then nine to close. That one just got done a
little bit ago. But it was going on when we
(01:08:10):
started off here at Bison Hotline, and I got some
other things going on here every single week at Applebee's
online or in app bogo. Half off burgers on Mondays
also something they got for you here at Applebee's. Andy
Rickoff Jake Cava with you as Ndy Issue gets to
win forty two to ten over Illinois State. A couple
more text messages have come in here. Let's get to
(01:08:30):
some of those. Steve and still Water, we appreciate this one.
Still Water, Minnesota. Steve checking in with us, says the
change in defense of intensity this week was significant. Today
was fast and downhill. Next week needs to improve even further.
I would agree with you there, Steve. Like we said,
each and every week is a new test. Toyata, go
pass the test again next week. But this week, for sure,
(01:08:51):
those linebackers were coming down hill. Jake, there were some
violent hits in the hole. I know, Logan kop once
had a guy short on a third and one, then
they have to stop on fourth and one as well,
to defense coming up. Marcus Gully, who led the team
in tackles by the way today making a spot start
for Luke Wurtz, he came downhill. I had some violent
hits on some running backs as well. It did seem
like a violent Code Green defense that was playing downhill
(01:09:13):
and playing fast. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:09:14):
I think it just got you know, stressed all week
that it was Missouri Missouri Valley football Conference play. You know,
you had to raise your level of intensity, raise your
level of performance for that conference game. And then two,
I know, just just the way that the guys came
out and played like they hear the rumors, they hear
the talk, the facts. Sometimes there were facts that were
playing bad. So just to see the guys come out
(01:09:35):
and respond and play well, I think. And there's a
little bit of familiarity with the offense that Illinois State
ran to so that allows guys to play a little
bit faster, be a little bit more confident in the
game plan. So yeah, I think all in all is
just you know, a lot of good things came together
and we were able to go out and execute on
Saturday or today and we gotta win.
Speaker 1 (01:09:51):
Yeah, and tell me what you think when because like
you said, do you guys hear that talk right, whether
you say it's facts or not. And I would agree
with you it was facts and the you know what,
But to use that as it's not really like, you know,
not be mad about it or I feel like, okay, whatever,
you don't know what you're talking about, Like using that
is fuel like how that cannot Sometimes it doesn't go
that way. It really doesn't all the time. Some people
(01:10:13):
you can hear that and you just push off to
the side and not really use this fuel. I do
think it fuels them in the right way.
Speaker 4 (01:10:19):
Yeah, No, there's definitely. I think I can't speak for everyone.
I was very just I think just being a local
guy and having I just followed a bunch of the
local people.
Speaker 1 (01:10:27):
So I see what you've been around. You've seen what
Bison defenses have been.
Speaker 4 (01:10:31):
You do know what the standards, So I would you
kind of read it with a grain of salt, right,
like you just kind of hear what they're saying. And
at the end of the day too, like there's a
lot going on defensively, that stuff can happen just because
maybe it's a bad play, Like there's a lot of
stuff going on that we don't see on the outside
of his fans, right, So you don't know exactly what's
going on, but I think you can definitely. I mean,
sometimes you just gotta find something to get pissed off at, right,
(01:10:53):
you know, there's a football, like, oh, why are you
mad today? Just so someone looked at me the wrong
way and now I'm gonna go hopefully get a TfL
or something. So sometimes you just use it like, oh, yeah, Jake,
and Andy said that by and defense is terrible. Those
guys are gonna show them like, hey, perfect.
Speaker 1 (01:11:06):
But the greatest athletes use the weirdest thing. In the
last dance with Michael, it was just like weird things
and I took that. Someone on a radio show said
something like I took it personally. They said, this guy
was a stop. You know, Okay, you're a little you know,
psychotic at some point, but that's what that's what you need.
The best players find a way to keep that chip,
(01:11:27):
keep that edge, and they definitely did today. They were
playing fast. Hey, it's great. Got to do it again
next with you again. Every week there's a new test.
You gotta pass that test. And these next weeks are
going to be very important for Andy. See, all of
them are gonna be tough and important, don't get me wrong.
But the next three of home VERSUSU and D at
Southern Illinois, a place that can be tough to play,
and all they got beat ballely today, but that's still
a team. Now they're gonna be playing more desperate, and
(01:11:48):
a desperate team can be a scary team. And then
home against STSU as well, there's gonna be some tough,
tough games. We'll take another break. We got a few
more segments here left, so we'll take one more break.
We'll check back in some more thoughts on this game.
I see a bunch of the comments on Facebook. We
love a longer segment. We'll just run through some of
those comments, run through some of the stats as well,
and get you all cut up on what happened today
as NDSHO gets to win forty two to ten. Also
(01:12:10):
take a look towards next week what it will take
for ENDUSU to get another win and get to two
inzero in Valley Playwoo do that with you on the
other side here on Bizon.

Speaker 5 (01:16:23):
Time for more reaction from today's game. Curing game is
your host Andy Rickoff.
Speaker 9 (01:16:28):
From the fourteen second and one hand off Brown up
the middle ten five three two one, twisting in the
end zone.
Speaker 1 (01:16:35):
Touchdown, Marty Brown back into the end zone.
Speaker 9 (01:16:40):
And the Bison are starting to pouring on here in
normal fourteen yards right between the hash marks the freight
train that is Marty Brown finds Peydtern once again his
fit thrushing scoreless season, and the Bison have opened up
a three score advantage.
Speaker 1 (01:16:58):
It's twenty seven to seven. What six oh seven to
go on a third quarter? That was really the moment
where this game started to feel like it was getting
out of hand. Twenty seven to seven would become twenty
eight to seven, which would become forty two to ten.
The final, Andy YSU wins it over Illinois State Marty
Brown with a touchdown. There four touchdowns the last two games.
And we said on pregame this morning, Jake, like, it's
(01:17:21):
one thing to have one great game as a red
shirt freshman, can you back that up with another good performance?
And he goes seventeen carries and even one hundred yards
and that touchdown, and he physically didn't really feel like
he wore down as the game went on, and he
was a handful. It took four different Red Birds to
get him to the ground almost every time.
Speaker 4 (01:17:39):
Yeah, No, I think he did a great job, you know,
backing up his performance. That's one thing you worry about
with the young guy. You know, it's really easy to
come out and have one big game, but can you
back that up, and I think Marty showed that, you know,
he's gonna be capable of week in week out putting
on you know, we can expect him to put on
a good performance as a running back and maybe.
Speaker 1 (01:17:54):
Be that bell cow.
Speaker 4 (01:17:55):
But then two, having a guy Grika that can come
in and spell him and take take a swing pass
forty yards to the house and stuff like that. Just
that one two combination is gonna be huge. And then
you also have TK Marshall and Cole Payton, so there's
a lot of weapons. But I think Marty is a
young guy. You know, he's gonna start to he's gonna
keep taking steps forward each week to you know, kind
of be that featured back.
Speaker 1 (01:18:15):
And after you get through with Marty and Barrika and TK,
then you got Peter Hugo who came into the pretty good,
pretty good thirty nine yards out there, almost got into
the touchdown for his first career touchdown as a Bison.
Looks at maybe a good bright piece for the future
a few years down the road, obviously, but that's one thing.
(01:18:38):
Future is great if you got a senior running back,
but Marty Browns rest your freshman. He's gonna have some
time here to put up some pretty big numbers at NDSU.
If he can stay healthy and keep up this level
of production, he's going to be a handful for everybody
in the valley. A really good performance here by NDSU
as they get to win forty two to ten over
Illinois State. Let's take a look at Facebook as well.
We do this on Bison sixteen sixty. I know with
(01:19:00):
you as well on one oh seven point nine in
the Fox, but do this question here for you on
Buison sixteen sixty. What are you guys have thoughts from
the win for NDSU over Illinois State forty two to
ten in the final. A lot of people commenting on
this one. I'm pretty excited about what ENDYSU was able
to do. Rita says, good games, so happy for them.
We've got Craig Biddo a great game. Not one hundred percent.
(01:19:23):
I'm a little concerned about next week still, okay, that's fine,
got some concerns there. I don't know what you could
have concerns about from this game as well. Brandon saying
the defense was definitely clicking. Finally, that has been great
to see about. John Willoughby says defense looks solid today
after all the criticisms so many, including myself, the guys
were tackling hard and with physicality, still lots of room
(01:19:45):
to improve. A very nice way to win out there, gentlemen,
completely agree with those ones. That seems to be the
sentiment that, hey, this Byson defense, maybe they turned a
little bit of a corner. The same way with Marty Brown.
You got to back it up, well, the defense, you
got to back it up with another good performance. And
we know we're going to see better teams here in
the valley offensively, but defensively. Just was a very solid performance. Yeah,
and I'm excited too.
Speaker 4 (01:20:05):
Obviously there's gonna be No, there's no need for to
get the guys pumped up for the game this coming week,
like there's gonna be there's the storylines behind it. You know,
we heard possible college game day possibly, you know, a
big rivalry game. See what happens with that. So there's
gonna be a lot of the atmosphere is gonna be there,
but it's just gonna be Can these defensive guys stay
locked in? And I think we did a lot better
(01:20:26):
job today kind of cutting down on the mental errors.
Can we carry that over into a game, you know
you're gonna be a little bit more emotional obviously from
what happened last year up in Grand Forks. The place
is gonna be rocking, Like are you able to lock
in and focus on the game plan and execute? So
that's one thing I'm gonna look forward to, you know,
seeing next week. But I think they took a good
step forward today.
Speaker 1 (01:20:45):
I completely agree with you. How about this comments as well?
We knew we'd get a question about this. We went
on the text line as well on our Facebook page.
Matt Aminson just the comments fbs all I had to
say about this one. We know that has been something
as well here this week, the last couple of weeks,
with some college realignment going on, I want to ask you,
just as players, I mean, you're recently graduated here, you
(01:21:07):
guys have to I can hear that kind of talk.
You know, what's happening in the college landscape to a
certain degree, Did you guys ever care about that stuff?
Would you have been for it against it? As players?
Speaker 4 (01:21:15):
Yeah, I mean I don't think anyone's very or anyone's
too like polarized by Yeah, I mean I think everyone's
under the agreement that we want to move up, I
guess players, and I'm not sure if everyone realizes like
that also entails like you might be not eligible for
the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (01:21:30):
But one point or kind of have a couple of
year transition transition.
Speaker 4 (01:21:35):
So obviously I think that would maybe if you sat
down and got everyone in the room and start talking
about and how to go through I kind of the
ins and outs of it.
Speaker 1 (01:21:41):
But I think as a whole, everyone's like, it's.
Speaker 4 (01:21:44):
Time to move up. Like we want to as competitors,
as athletes, you want to challenge yourself, not saying you're
not chalding because your challenge every week in the Missouri Valley,
but there's a higher level of football out there. Everyone
realizes that, and we want to be able to play
in that. I think I think everyone's in agreements with that.
I mean, you might have some people that are still
kind of on the on the fence around the other side,
(01:22:04):
the other side of the fence about how you staying
in the FCS. But guys, we've we've been in the FCS,
We've dominated the FCS. We've had a run that will
never be reproduced by anyone in sports ever. Probably like
let's move on and maybe go playing a Peach Bowl
or have a really good team the Group of five,
and maybe we're at in t Town at Bryant Denny
(01:22:26):
Stadium playing a matchup with Alabama in the first round
of the College Football Playoffs, Like that can happen if
we get up to the FB. FBS guys, it's a possible.
It's a possibility.
Speaker 1 (01:22:34):
Disability right now level too, but hey, there's an opportunity
out there, and who knows anything is possible these next
couple of weeks and months, like we ought to keep
our eyes open and keep options open out there as well.
So appreciate that comment there from Matt. We had some
text in about it as well. What do you guys
think this means for the FBS? Could we be going there?
I don't think this game is gonna sway anybody's opinion, honestly.
(01:22:56):
But also Gary saying on Facebook, defensive lines showed up
today complimentary football, and that's something we touched on too.
From all these areas that were really good, even in
games where maybe there's been a miss here or a
miss there, we've said, hey, the defensive line didn't get
off blocks and that meant that the linebackers weren't able
to get downhill, and then the secondary guys are left
kind of on an island. It is complimentary. Today. It
(01:23:17):
felt like every level was doing their job. The defensive
line kept the linebackers clean, the linebackers were making the tackles,
the secondary guys were letting the receivers really get open.
And then offense and defense, you know, offense puts up points,
puts pressure on the opposing team, allows the defense to
get after him. It really was complimentary football out there. Yeah,
it's the old Bill Belichick adage. I just do your job.
Speaker 4 (01:23:35):
You know, you get in trouble when you're starting like, oh, yeah,
I'm doing what I'm supposed to do over here, and
then I'm looking over Oh I'm gonna try to do
a little bit extra over here, and then before you
know it, you're not doing your job, you're trying to
do his, and then everything's all messed up and it's
a it's a mess. But I know, if everyone just
goes out there does your job every play, you're gonna
have games like this. We're you give up eight yards rushing.
Speaker 1 (01:23:53):
Eight yards of rushing once again, ANDYU gave up today
in this dominant win over Illinois State Preview. This next
game ANDSU and UND, the next opponent for the Bison,
will do that on the other side when we come back.
Before we take a break, though, let's pause ten seconds

Time for more reaction from today's game, You're again as
your host Andy Richoff.
Speaker 9 (01:29:11):
Here's a snapped rittenhouse four man rush. He's under presser head,
he's going.
Speaker 1 (01:29:15):
Down Buys, He's got him again. Another sack.
Speaker 9 (01:29:18):
Dylan Hendricks come on down the second second of the
game for the Bason A big one.
Speaker 1 (01:29:24):
Our third down sack. There, Dylan Hendricks getting on the
end of one of the five sacks for INDYSU in
this ball game. We have been begging for a Dylan
Hendrick sacked these last couple of weeks. You're good, buddy.
He gets on the end of that one. The shaved
head gets a celebrit. Yeah, I know, that was awesome, Dylan.
He's obviously a heck of a player.
Speaker 4 (01:29:44):
And you made a comment earlier that you know, this
is kind of when he started his really you know,
all American level play last year was when conference started,
and I think he kind of started he got back
to that. Today is I mean his move on the edge,
he tackle, didn't even touch him and basically just beat
the brakes off of him and got a sack.
Speaker 1 (01:29:59):
So excited Dylan, Excited for Dylan, excited to see him.
Speaker 4 (01:30:01):
I know he's getting a little frustrated earlier in the
season not getting home, but stayed in the hunt state
hungry and then got rewarded.
Speaker 1 (01:30:07):
Today he got there. He got a sack. Also a
sack for the Shaka Roaks, one for Enoxy Bamana and
two for Eli Mostart his Byzon get five sacks on defense.
They hold Illinois State to eight rushing yards eight total
yards on the ground, and they win it forty two
to ten. Andy Rickoff and Jake Cava here with you
as the Bison get that dominant win, they'll move on
(01:30:30):
back here at home, and that's the end state rivalry.
It's NDSU, it's und It's gonna be a sold out
Fargo Dome. It's gonna be an even more packed tailgating line.
I gotta think there's gonna be some build up for
this game, rightfully so, because you indeed, hey, they won
it last year, they won it, and they wanted in
convincing fashion up at the Aleris Center there in Grand Forks,
(01:30:53):
and we said, you know, a rivalry really is an
a rivalry until both sides have gotten a win can
kind of claim claim to it a little bit. And hey,
they won it last year. I think that's going to
up the intensity of this one quite a bit. All
the guys on this team they know what happened last
year and they're out to reverse course on that one
a little bit.
Speaker 4 (01:31:13):
Yeah, there's definitely gonna be a different vibe or a
different kind of vibe in the atmosphere comes Saturday. It's
gonna be kind of an all weak thing. Obviously, we
went up there and got our got the break speed
off us last year, which was one of the worst
days of my life.
Speaker 1 (01:31:27):
It was not fun. I talked with you after that game.
It was it was pretty sad.
Speaker 4 (01:31:32):
But you know, I think the guys they realized that,
and there's definitely gonna be some get back on the mind.
I know, especially for the a lot of the guys
played in that game. But I know even guys they've
text Merety and like, we got you on this one.
So they're gonna do it for me and Kubis and
t Mac and Zach Mathis and all the.
Speaker 1 (01:31:49):
Guys senior, you do not want to end your career losing. No,
that's tough.
Speaker 4 (01:31:52):
Yeah, I live with that the rest of your life.
But I do think we kind of turned it around
and we ended up having a better season than them.
But yeah, and like you were saying too, I don't
think the true rivalry isn't back until both teams can
say they went to the other like, obviously we've been
up to you and D. We've beat them in U
and D. They've never came to the Dome and beat
NDSU in the Dome during this era, during this era, yes, correct,
If they're able to come in and beat us in
the Dome, then I'll be like, all right, it's back
(01:32:15):
game on. It's close right now. But they still need
to come down from Grand Forks, from that god forsaken
town in North Dakota north of here, come down and
beat us in the Dome, which I don't think is
gonna happen, but we'll see.
Speaker 1 (01:32:26):
Hey, it's going to be a matchup of two teams
that are undefeated at the FCS level. Both losses for
both of these teams came against FBS opponents. NDSU obviously
losing the Colorado in the season opener, and U and
D loss in their season opener on the road against
Iowa State. Since then, it's been a pretty thorough domination
for U and D. And they've been all at home.
(01:32:49):
That's the other side of this one as well. They
put up seventy two points today and their Valley opener
when they beat Murray State. Before that, you look at
what they had done. They've had some first half struggles,
but they've been really, really solid in the second half
of games these last three weeks. They won seventy two
to thirty five against Murray today, forty one to twenty
four against San Diego, fifty two to twenty eight against
(01:33:10):
Idaho State. They won twenty seven to twenty four against Montana.
They trailed at halftime twenty four to seven in that game,
but then shut Montana out in the second half and
they won it twenty seven twenty four on a field
goal with about two minutes, two minutes and ten seconds
or so left in regulation there in that game against Montana.
(01:33:30):
Give them a lot of credit on that one against
the Grizz to get the win. And then since it's
Idaho State, it's San Diego, a non scholarship team from
the Pioneer and then it's a win against the Valley team.
But it's the bottom beard Murray. It's either Murray State
or Indiana State or the last place team in this conference.
We know that they'll be the toilet Bowl when they play.
All the un D fans got to be saying that, hey,
(01:33:50):
this is going to be a bigger test this next
week than Murray We know that, but also this gon
to be a bigger test for Endiusuit than Illinois State.
I think it was too. It should be a battle
and it's going to be a massive game for this region.
Speaker 4 (01:34:01):
No, yeah, I mean it's gonna be. It's the premiere
game and uh an FCS football. If not, I mean,
there's not a whole lot of big time college football
games tomorrow. So I think there's this definitely gonna be
national attention put on this game, just because obviously what
happened last year. Just NDSU football is a national brand.
U and D is not a national brand. But there
are little brothers been in the playoffs. They've been in
(01:34:22):
the playoffs's been better than a lot of teams at.
Speaker 1 (01:34:24):
The FCS level. They have been consistently, at least in
the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (01:34:26):
Yeah, stop ripping on you and D so much. I'm
gonna get in trouble.
Speaker 1 (01:34:29):
No, we want to ripping on you and D. But
trying even it out a little bit. And next week
when we win, we can rip on them even more.
Speaker 4 (01:34:35):
Yeah, but no, it's gonna be all joking aside. Just
if you and D is good, that's good for the region,
that's good for the state. It's just good for football
whole state, right, and you know we obviously we want
to beat him every year and all that. But as
just a fan of football and as a fan of
this region, I think of it too. I was like,
just from the height, like just to grow the game, right,
(01:34:55):
Like when both teams are good, they get younger kids
excited about it. That leads to more. It's playing fourth
grade and so on. Sudd, there's high school and it's
just good. So uh yeah, I mean it's gonna be
a fun week. We'll see what happens with some certain
game day.
Speaker 1 (01:35:09):
Well, let's go through since you're mentioning it, like even
the possibility of college game day coming to a game
haven't been for a I think a couple of years
now right, because the last time would have been on
the road, when we were on the road at twenty nineteen.
You look at next week slate, it's not crazy Penn
(01:35:31):
State home versus UCLA. Don't really see that. Even if
Penn State were to win this week, maybe if they
beat Illinois, then it would be seven or something. The
UCLA is bad. It doesn't have a ton of cachet.
Florida State if they had been really good this year,
I could see Florida State hosting Clemson. Florida States hasn't
been good there one in three. Clemson is in a
(01:35:51):
bit of a battle right now, up ten nothing at
home against Stanford. Boise State home versus Utah State. Not really.
I could see them going to Missouri at Texas and M.
That's the top twenty five match, pretended C and M one,
But like you said, they've already been to Texas and
now they could go to a place twice and says
they can't do that, right, But they were at Texas
A and M for the season opener against Notre Dame,
(01:36:11):
and that has some cachet. But it's not super sex.
It's not like Alabama Georgia. This is exactly right, Georgia's
home verss Auburn, No Ohio State homevers or Ohio State
homeverss Iowa Little Sex always got some brand cache a
little bit three and one verse three and oh, potentially
right there, that one could be it. I would say
Oklahoma State would have had a chance that they had
won this week, got lost pretty thoroughly beat by Chris
(01:36:34):
climbing for US. Imon was looking out for US. I
agree with you there, So like that's the top twenty
five slate. Next week there's not like a gotta be
there or your point and saying, yep, right there there
is when NDSU plays SDUSU this people are pointing to
the marker game as one potentially but that same week
Georgia's at Texas like they're going there, going right, But
(01:36:56):
next week there's not. Is there a possibility, I'd say
there's a possibility. The fans happening, We're hearing stuff.
Speaker 4 (01:37:02):
Yeah, what time they announce it?
Speaker 1 (01:37:03):
Probably we'll probably be after all games today, so it'd
be late tonight for early tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (01:37:09):
Two years.
Speaker 1 (01:37:09):
We will have to wait and see, and that I
mean maybe Obviously they've come to NDSU a couple of
times when it was necessarily premier game. It was more
focused on NDSU's just their run and the history of success.
But then the rad SDSU to kind of just talk
about the market game, right like that was it was
a big game and a cool different atmosphere. I think
to be able to talk about the rivalry of NDS
(01:37:31):
U U n D is another very unique rivalry and
a big, bigger rivalry, especially at the FCS level, and
that would be a fun different kind of aspect. They
could do a little twist to game day for sure, for.
Speaker 4 (01:37:42):
Sure, And I think to just because it's been a
while since has been in Fargo and just get the
college game day set downtown. I think you have a
rockets environment.
Speaker 1 (01:37:49):
With talking about the FSA. Maybe that's a good like
you know, especially gets talked about if they're here on
the front porch, like say, hey, Mountain West, look what
Fargo is doing for college game. But like look this atmosphere,
look at this region, Look how they support their football team,
Like why would you not want this program in your conference?
How many Mount West teams have had college game But
I don't know, but if a third dad.
Speaker 4 (01:38:09):
Yeah, how many teams have that?
Speaker 1 (01:38:10):
At three times?
Speaker 4 (01:38:11):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:38:12):
Four times for a game that three but three times
in the city.
Speaker 4 (01:38:14):
Yeah, that's crazy.
Speaker 1 (01:38:15):
Yeah, it could have, it could happen. It's happening for sure,
but keep your eyes op, I wink it's out of
the question. Would the schedule next week? I would put
it at plus three ten right now? Those are good odds.
Speaker 4 (01:38:26):
It's it's like, it's definitely not it's not the favorite,
but it's it's there.
Speaker 1 (01:38:30):
It's on the board, it's on the very I think
it's on the board for people that make those decisions
for him. So not a whole lot of super sexy
marquee matchups in Michigan at Washington would have been good
if Washington was really really good and they're they're decent
three and two coming into this week, so that could
be a possibility out there as well. Tennessee at Arkansas,
but Arkansas has been a little bit up and down,
not the sexiest week where there's like, I have to
(01:38:51):
be their matchup. Nd S U U and D could
be the one.
Speaker 4 (01:38:53):
That is how the ND S U U N D
matchup is the have to be the matchup?
Speaker 1 (01:38:58):
I agree, Well, just don't any any complaints from me
on that one. Simon runfell by the way their quarterback.
We thought, Okay, he's a good running quarterback. I don't
knowbou the passing game he's been throwing. Can he put
up some pretty big numbers of these last couple of weeks.
Now again I had a host State San Diego Murray State.
I see a different beast when they Fay face Andy,
when he's gonna have to face this crowd because they've
(01:39:18):
been at home for a month now, four straight games
at home. We have to come to the forego home
and deal with the noise that it's going to be
and first time guys in the dome don't do as well.
But he has played there, I believe in high school
games at least's played in the knows what to expect
a little bit. What are you expecting from that young quarterback?
Speaker 4 (01:39:32):
For you, Indy obviously, how like I like you said,
I was a little just wondering if he could throw
the ball. He's proven he's I.
Speaker 1 (01:39:39):
Think we're still wondering against a good defense. Yeah that's fair, Yeah,
that's fair. He hasn't faced that great defense. Yeah in
the Fargodome.
Speaker 4 (01:39:44):
And I'm the big matchup for me next week is
going to be Dylan Hendricks and the right tackle from
U n D. If Dylan Hendricks plays how he can play,
that's a place for Andy, so you can take a
massive advantage of that.
Speaker 1 (01:39:56):
And then in the back half.
Speaker 4 (01:39:59):
We got Bull Belquist.
Speaker 1 (01:40:01):
Yeah, we're gonna double team him and then force somebody.
Speaker 4 (01:40:04):
And I guarantee we're gonna be at the game in
a week and we're gonna sitting there and bow bel
Quist is gonna catch like a thirty five yard touchdown.
We're gonna be like, guys, we were calling this on
Saturday for just have two guys on him. But uh,
we gotta find a way to slow him down. Bracket coverages,
give rum for a bunch of different looks. Obviously, he's
a young quarterback. That's where like Cam Miller, he can
digest and he can kind of see the structure of
(01:40:25):
the defense and make throws off that.
Speaker 1 (01:40:26):
Right.
Speaker 4 (01:40:28):
Maybe romfro Kennedy is just.
Speaker 1 (01:40:31):
We haven't seen it.
Speaker 4 (01:40:32):
We haven't seen it yet, but I don't think if
we can confuse him in the backup, I think he'll
give us a few picks and just that combined with
you know, Eli Mos start Dylan Hendricks with Chaka Roue
getting after you, and d Kin has a retooled offensive line.
They lost there. They had a really good left tackle
last year Easton Kilty. I believe he transferred to k State,
could be I think.
Speaker 1 (01:40:52):
Transfer.
Speaker 4 (01:40:53):
Then they had another yeah, another one of the other
old lignement went with Freud the SG So I think
they're kind of they're hurting a little bit upfront, so
I think we can take advantage of that. But I'm excited.
It's just going to be a great atmosphere, a great
day for college football. I know our offense is going
to come out and cam Miller obviously is cam Miller,
and he needs to be cam Miller, and I think
he's tired of hearing about und beating us last year.
(01:41:14):
So I think he's in the throw for a lot
of touchdowns and run for a lot of touchdowns.
Speaker 1 (01:41:17):
Seniors that want to go out of the right side
of that rivalry, and especially when it's going to be
at home in the Fargo, you don't want to be
losing that game next week. It should be a doozy
of a game. Guys, It's going to be a lot
of fun. I'm looking forward to that game next Saturday,
two thirty place to be is inside the Fargo do
and Gate City bank field and a raucous environment for
the battle for the State for the Peace Garden, State
(01:41:38):

Fining Hawks. We'll take one more break, we'll come back

that game, coming to the bar area right now, you
can sign up to win two tickets to NDSU un D.

Time for more reaction from today's game, Fury Game is
your host Andy Rickoff, GK.
Speaker 1 (01:46:19):
Marshall.
Speaker 9 (01:46:20):
The running back Peyton keeps it off left hand. There
goes Cole thirty five forty forty five, fifty forty five,
forty thirty five thirty twenty five twenty fifteen ten.
Speaker 18 (01:46:30):
He is back in the end zone.
Speaker 9 (01:46:33):
Call Peyton all the way to the house, seventy three
yard rushing touchdown, his first score of twenty twenty four.
And it's another big hitter touchdown Bison forty one seven here.
Speaker 1 (01:46:49):
In the fourth quarter. Big score right there, Cole Peyton,
otherwise known as CP nine with the big rushing touchdown.
Great to see Cole back in the end zone, seventy
three yards to the house. That was the final score
of the game, forty two to seven at that point,
I guess. And when they did add a field goal,
I should add and they were forty two to ten
(01:47:10):
the final bys and get the victory. Great to see
Cole Payton in the open field. That was bringing back
memories of Eastern Washington last year. Just good to see
number nine making a big splash play on offense.
Speaker 4 (01:47:21):
Yeah, and just the way he moved like it's always
like Dabrill Cox kind of remind like when they run
that doesn't look like it's so smooth and looks like
they're not even trying. Cole Payton's one of the fastest
guys in the field, Dribrill Cock Like it's just it's
eerie how.
Speaker 1 (01:47:33):
Fack guys would be able to catch up to and
he's just.
Speaker 4 (01:47:36):
Pulling away and just his long strides and obviously he's
a big athlete. Just to see him get down on
the edge and make a big splash play like you
said was was was fun to see. And then hopefully
he can build on that and kind of getting a
little bit more of a rhythm offensively, kind of for
games to come.
Speaker 1 (01:47:48):
By the way, I did see him line up a
couple of times at receiver, yeah, a block once. He
was also a gunner on a punt. Yep, he down
to punt today.
Speaker 4 (01:47:56):
So I really liked the motion where they kind of
line Cole up in the slot, kind of slow motion
them in and then we run like a little red
zone bypass with Cole and get him out in the
flat and then Cam kind of marve an RPO has
the option to either give it to Marty or Burrika
and then you can pull it either tucket and run
or we haven't seen it yet, but dump it off
the coal in the flat.
Speaker 1 (01:48:12):
And then obviously you can see what Cole can do
with the ball in his hands. I know we've all
been wondering what's Cole Payton's gonna be doing, and we're
kind of impatient, just as humans in general as a society.
I don't think all the potential, like I guess i'll
call them tricks. Things you can do with Cole we're
gonna be unveiled in non conference. I think there's a
few things you say for big games, and one of
them is next week. I know the ones a few
(01:48:33):
weeks after that. I think there's gonna be some things.
I'm not saying they're gonna be throwing trick plays and
triple passes and fleet flickers and all sorts of weird things, right,
but I think there's gonna be a few things with Cole.
He's already playing a little bit more on special teams
now as well. There's gonna be some stuff with him
as this conference season gets going.
Speaker 4 (01:48:49):
You know what we talked about earlier, A like what
motivates guys? Right, Like one thing that obviously there's there's
a lot of there's the most motivation for a buysing
game probably in a long time, this coming week. And
that's one thing. You know, if you get a Bison
team and you can't have it every week because it's we're,
like you said, we're humans, and you can't bring that level.
Speaker 1 (01:49:09):
Sometimes you could, you would hope you could bring it,
but when you're there's bound to be.
Speaker 4 (01:49:13):
But when you get a Bison team that is extremely focused,
extremely motivated, kind of pissed off about what happened last year.
I'm so excited for a week from today to be
sitting here with you and Chris and talking about how wow,
that looked like an NBASU team that is from twenty nineteen,
twenty thirteen, twenty twenty one. Because I'm I think it's
(01:49:34):
gonna be a really good week for the Bison. I'm
so excited.
Speaker 5 (01:49:37):
I just got.
Speaker 4 (01:49:40):
I want to play.
Speaker 1 (01:49:40):
Do I need to get shoulder pass?
Speaker 4 (01:49:42):
Yeah? Coach Paul said, give me one more, give.
Speaker 1 (01:49:44):
Me one more. Might not be as good as I
once was, as good once as I was, Yes, Toby
DJ Miller, by the way, saying on Facebook his comment
I would say code Green is back from the game today,
Patrick saying keep getting better, Gary, the d line showed
up today. Complimentary football at its best. A whole bunch
of people commenting on this win for the Bins. In
(01:50:06):
the latest comment coming in from Mike Solberg says Cam
looked great except on a few option players, or maybe
he should have kept it and ran the rock himself. Yeah,
Cam was pretty exceptional. Yeah, you're not gonna have a
perfect game. And even coach paulse I said it towards
the end like there's maybe a few plays here were
there and if he does that, he's playing per And
he kind of stopped himself like he's playing well, you know,
not playing it perfect. But obviously the fumble today a
(01:50:27):
few little things, but man, it is good to have
Cam Miller back.
Speaker 4 (01:50:30):
There's quarterback. You just having all the basketball au coach
Casey Brugman showut case. He's actually the head coach at
Jamestown now bringing that to the NSC. But he used
to tell us when we're back in our youth that
you know, you want to chase perfection and a byproduct
or that is you might catch greatness. So you're never
gonna be perfect, chase perfection and the by product will
be you'll catch greatness.
Speaker 1 (01:50:47):
That's pretty good. Aim for the stars and you'll orrying
for the moon in your land and the stars at
the very least was a pretty good spot to be
a couple other score updates quickly as before we say
goodbye right now, can you actually draw for our tickets.
Any U, U and D shake that thing up, well,
draw for the tickets here. We'll pull those here at
Appleby's on Bison Hotline. Two things before we announce the winner.
(01:51:07):
Taking a look at some other scores in the Big Sky,
keep an eye on this one at the half. Northern
Arizona is up ten to nine on Sack State. That
game is at the half Sack State, a top ten
ranked team right now. No touchdowns yet for the Hornet
says they trail ten to nine on the road in
Flake Staff against Northern Arizona. Also cal Pauly up twenty
one to seven at Northern Colorado Big game tonight. We're
(01:51:30):
not gonna be staying up for this one at least
on Bison Hotline. But Idaho on the road at UC
Davis at nine o'clock tonight. Also Montana, who has never
gotten a win on the red turf, and Cheenie Washington
taking on Eastern Washington tonight at seven o'clock. Coming up
here actually at eight o'clock, coming up in about a
half hour for that one. Montana and Eastern Washington. Okay,
(01:51:51):
who is our winner? Our twit tickets to India shown
two tickets. Indeed, please, I'm thinking this actually might be
an NBCU student just based on the address.
Speaker 4 (01:52:00):
But Tanner Canes, congratulations, Tanner, you need to work on
your handwriting, but you're gonna be at the game.
Speaker 1 (01:52:07):
Yeah, we'll get somethinglist classes for you the very least. Tanner, congratulations,
you are going to NDSU and you and d and
I don't know if he is, but if it happens
to be a student today, you don't even need to
get tickets in there. Then you go to the hassles
waking up at seven and get there right at eight
and make sure you're That's how it was done when
I was eight, is when they go online. If you're
not there but eight, you're not getting them. Eight to
(01:52:28):
one they're gone. So that was how it was. Also,
we waited all day for this phenomenal Alabama hosting Georgia game. Jake,
is it already over nothing? Alabama? Up here at the
end of the first quarter, Bama roll tide rolling all
over the dolls.
Speaker 4 (01:52:44):
Not over yet, Obviously. Georgia is an extremely well coached program.
They have a lot of good players, but twenty one
zero in the first quarter, that's not a good start.
For Georgia, they would say Alabama started fast.
Speaker 1 (01:52:54):
Yes, as a fast start.
Speaker 4 (01:52:55):
It's a fast start, very fast start.
Speaker 1 (01:52:57):
Is a touchdown, punt, touchdown, interception in touchdown for Bama.
Pretty good start when you're at home. If Georgia's game
plan was take the crowd out of it, the crowds in,
they didn't do it. They did not do a good
job of that one, because Bama that crowd. I can
only imagine how loud it is right now down there
in tuscaloosays it's going to be second and three for
(01:53:18):
Georgia to start things off in quarter number two, first quarter,
all Bama up twenty one to nothing in that game
before we say goodbye. Any final thoughts from this one?
Speaker 4 (01:53:27):
Good win. Obviously we're a little bit worried about is
this a trap game? Obviously they kind of silenced that.
They went out execute the game plan. Gotta win. I
think the guys are landing. They should be landing back
at Hector here soon, like right now, but they're gonna
be locked in. It's gonna be a fun week for buys,
and I'm excited for the kind of the build up
to the game. We'll see what happens with college game Day.
But if we get college game Day for it, like
(01:53:49):
the mecca of the college football world will be back
in Fargo for a big time robbery game. I mean,
you can't. You can't.
Speaker 1 (01:53:54):
He hasn't been here yet.
Speaker 4 (01:53:55):
Pat McFee hasn't been Get pack McAfee at sports Bar. Yeah,
the turf for Herd Horns. You know, four Knox. It's
gonna be a it's gonna be a good week and
I'm excited. I know the guys will be ready to
play on on Saturday, and fans, we need you bring it.
Pack the doll stay for the entire game. Show those
guys through up in Grand Forks.
Speaker 1 (01:54:14):
Why NDSU is NDSU? Last year was a fluke. It
was a fluke. We'll show it.
Speaker 4 (01:54:20):
We'll show them who we are on Saturday.
Speaker 1 (01:54:22):
Yes, fans, this is the impassioned plea from a former player.
Speaker 4 (01:54:26):
And feed off you guys. You guys, bring the energy.
You guys are more important than you even imagine. It's
so important to have you guys.
Speaker 1 (01:54:33):
All day along with tailgame good at two in the morning,
I don't care whatever time it opens.
Speaker 4 (01:54:37):
Get there, start mashing the hot, but the hot and
wake up. This is coach Kramer quote, get your piss hot.
It's freaking game day.
Speaker 1 (01:54:44):
Okay, Coach Kramer, come into here. A quote at the
end of Buyson Hotline. I like that one. Get it
going early on, make that place loud, stay for the
entire game and see if NDS you can get back
on the right side of what is a pretty good
arrival that's getting better and better every single year. Maybe
it's game date, maybe it's not. We'll wait and see.
But today all we know is today was a complete
four quarter performance for DYSU. They played extremely well on
(01:55:07):
the road. They get to win forty two to ten
over Illinois State. For our entire broadcast crew from the
morning all the way till now from Ross Uglim in
the morning with the Bison Report Show, Jay Bartley as
well Green and Gold Game Day, Brad Jones who was
so good with his glorious picks on the Bison Tailgate Show. Obviously,
Ian Longton who is the producer for all of that
morning show, Koli Ilanimi on the broadcast as well producing
(01:55:30):
our network coverage, and Nick Brenda Mule who is producing
Bison Hotline for US today. Also Roman Porterfield for our
in studio engineering and Jake Beck told for the on
site engineering of the game today, and then for the
entire network crew, Sam Niederman and your Voice of NDSU,
the Hall of Famer Phil Hanson, and of course the
one and only Noah Gendorff. We called them no sleeves
(01:55:50):
Noah today on the sidelines, just with the short sleeves
out there, no code, no long sleeves, toughing it out.
The polar wasn't that cold, I don't think, but it
wasn't those snowmagetting out there. But we survived on the sidelines.
For everybody, our entire broadcast group, big thanks for listening
to our coverage. They have NDSU over Illinois State. I'm
Andy RecA saying so long from Applebee's Go Bison and
(01:56:13):
we'll see you next week. For NDSU and und.
Speaker 5 (01:56:18):
