Load in line with three tight ends, Barrika right. Here's
a snaps of paint growing left looking looking now try
and run cutting it signs cutting its on touchdown bijon
hold Pete went back to throw roll out to us right.
He was looking to throw and then deciding to tuck
and run. He takes it in himself two yard rushing touchdown,
(01:17):
his fourth of the year, and the Bison are out
in front by two scores early in the second half,
twenty three to ten. The more things change, the more
they stay the same. Everybody. Another top ten menship for
NDY issue in Missouri Valley Football Conference play, another dominant
effort by the Beson and they walk out winners once
(01:39):
again today taking down the Sulukis of Southern Illinois. Welcome
in to bineson hotline. Here live with you from Applebey's
just north of the Forego Dome. Andy rickoff with you.
Jake Cava, former Bison football player himself, was a member
of many of these blowout wins, and of course Chris
Hansen here with us live at Applebe's just north of
(02:00):
the Fargo Dumbins. The Bies then win this one, going
away forty five seventeen over the Sulukis of Southern Illinois.
Happy to have you alongside with us here today. We
want your thoughts on the show. Seven zero one, four,
seven six, sixteen sixty the number to call or text.
We'll get to as many calls and text messages as
we can over the next ninety minutes. Scris, We're gonna
(02:20):
go quick. We're gonna brun the hurry of it to
day running the hurry up today as the Bids who
were putting up some points in very quick fashion, especially
in that second half, they dominate today. Forty five seventeen. Jake,
We'll give you the opening word. As we talked about
this game a lot on Bins in Game Bay, the
pregame show today, we thought high powered offense, maybe slightly
close game INNDSU pulls away in the fourth quarter. They
(02:43):
pulled away a little earlier than that. High powered offense
on one side and dominant defense on the other. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
Going into this game, meanw D. J.
Speaker 4 (02:52):
Williams from Solon Illinois, one of the better quarterbacks in
the FCS, I thought this was gonna be you know,
we were tested last week Illinois State. Thought Solder Illinois
was going to be a step up. And it was,
I mean Southern Illinois the first half, I mean it was.
It was a neck and neck game. That forced fumble
by Kean Wilson turns into a touch, Bryce Lance down
(03:12):
the sideline, then Brycelance back shoulder faith in the end
zone and you see gets the ball. At a half time,
the coaches talk about the middle four. You gotta win
the last four minutes the second half or the second quarter,
first four minutes of the third quarter, and AC did
that and then ends up turns into a blow up.
Speaker 5 (03:25):
By I don't know who's cutting up the orange slices
at halftime. But the last two weeks, NDSU coming out
in the second half has been so dominant in first
half last week at Illinois State and then this week
in Southern Illinois, where the game was still fairly tight,
right like, it still seemed like back and forth, but
the second half, NDSU has just led to dominate. I'm
(03:46):
getting to this point where I'm thinking NDSU is the
only team that's gonna beat NDSU this year.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
Yeah, that's a really good point.
Speaker 5 (03:52):
Yeah, I know Brookings is doing things. I know they're
doing things up north, but still it feels to me
like NDSU is gonna be the only the beats in
DSCU this year.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
We'll touch on some of those other scores, definitely some
that we got to get get our minds around a
little bit and mention you and d a good performance
today against Youngstown State. SDSU struggled a little bit with
Northern Iowa but then end up dominating in the end.
We look to all of those on our Jiffy Blue
but Fargo's scoreboard a little bit later on here today.
First off, we want to let you know our title
sponsored sponsoring every single Bison hotline here at Applebee's is
(04:22):
Keia of Fargo. Stopping to Kia Fargo today and check
out some of their award winning vehicles like the redesigned Sorrento,
the spacious Sedona or the sleeping stylish Optima. Come in
or visit them online at Kiaoffargo dot com and go
Bison from Kia of Fargo. We are alive here with
yet Applebee's. If you're here with us, or if you're
not with us yet at Applebe's and you're coming this
way as you should be, sign up in the bar area.
(04:45):
We're giving away some tickets the next home game, which
isn't for a couple of weeks here, guys. I think
three straight weeks on the road, and then we've got
Youngstown State here at home to start off the month
of November. I've got tickets to that game will be
given away. We got a whole bunch of forty ounce
Stainley steel tumblers. We got three of those two giveaway.
Got some shirts still up here and plenty of yard signs.
Those ones are free giveaways there on the yard signs
(05:06):
and the t shirt first come, first serve. But the
tickets and the tumblers sign up here in the bar
area and we'll give those away at the end of
the program. We do have the phone lines open, as
we said, and we already got a caller, ladies and gentlemen,
and of course it's none other than the Icon giving
us a call here on the hotline. Icon. Great to
have you with us once again. What are your thoughts
on this dominant win for the.
Speaker 6 (05:26):
Bicycle, Hey, gentlemen, First off, can I say Colton Cole
Peyton can pass and he can run and do everything.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
Else as well, very evidence.
Speaker 5 (05:37):
Yes, you're my question.
Speaker 7 (05:40):
For you, gentlemen. We have we seem to be dominant.
Like you said, I don't think any team can beat
us but us. But let me ask you this that
I know we should never overlook. Next week is gonna
be a great game, but we are going to come
up on top, which will leave us to South Dakota
State undefeated as we go into South Dakota States. So
(06:03):
a couple of questions about that.
Speaker 6 (06:06):
If they're gonna be both are defeated, one's gonna have
to end up not winning the game. So do you
think those teams have finished first and second? And have
you guys heard the possibility, since ESPN owns the rights to.
Speaker 7 (06:21):
The game, that they may move it to a night game.
Speaker 6 (06:24):
Those are my questions.
Speaker 7 (06:25):
I'll hang up with listen, thank.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
You, thank you. I kind of appreciate it. On the
first party brought up, Cole Payton can run, he can pass.
Actually one more thing on the Bryce Lance touchdown very first,
he was out there in the open field blocking as well,
and I saw him at one of the end a rounds.
Also throw a block on a de linement, not the
d lineman backrounds, more than just to get in the way.
Oh yeah, like an actual yeah yeah, a little bit
(06:49):
knock back as we call that one, or at least
attempted on it. So he can do a little bit
of everything. I think this might be correct me if
I'm wrong. Guys, fourth time we've been asked when's the
du We don't know yet, we have not been told.
We'll probably find out there's next couple of day.
Speaker 5 (07:06):
Still up in the air, and still.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
Up in the air, it will be in Brookings so
you know that one that's gonna be on the ESPN
probably family of networks. Most likely will that be ESPN two, ESPN,
ESPN you. Whatever it is, we'll find out here a
little bit later on, probably early this next week to
the middle of next week would be my belief, since
it's a week out. Basically at that point will be
told them I'm hoping Night Game two.
Speaker 5 (07:28):
Yeah, let's go for it. I mean, as far as
the fans are concerned, that it does get a little
difficult getting after a night game and driving all the
way home afterwards, because again, you don't want to spend
a dollar in Brookings County if you don't have to.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
What about the preeminent Mexican restaurant, Well, if you want.
Speaker 5 (07:42):
To hit tj if you want to hit a TJ's
for an ola afterwards. But I think that it is
clearly becoming that these are going to be the two
teams that the rest of the country is looking up to.
And I'm interested to see what that looks like. How
because here we've had two top ten matches in a
row and NDSU is won by fifty points combined in
(08:03):
those two games, right, plus, so what what does this
look like, is this the Jacks and the Bison and
everybody else or is there somebody else that can put
together an effort. SDCU got tested last week a little
bit of a kind of a weird game today at
home against the Panthers from you and I, but I'm
very interested to see is it NDSU and STSU and
(08:25):
everybody else and is SDSU that are they in the
same league as NBSU.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
That would be my question is obviously we know what
we have.
Speaker 4 (08:35):
We've seen this that we've seen it, We've seen the
last two games against top ten teams. I don't want
to put the cart for the horse, but I could
see us going down and I don't know if STSU
is even in that class right now, just with how
our offense is playing.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
I love defensively back.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
To what Chris had, so I want to eat more,
keep it going. I don't disagree with you guys. Now.
The one thing about the un D and the SDSU
games is both of those are on the runner. Makes
some more difficult. Obviously, we just saw going to Illinois
State made that was a little bit of a contest.
They were come off a bye two, which definitely helps.
But I would tend to agree with that. The performances
in the game against USD. Okay, you is to not
(09:12):
be a little bit down though too. But this one
against I think this is a really good Southern Illinois team.
Maybe it's the third best team in the valley, maybe
it's the fourth, but even the fourth best team in
the valley is a pretty good team close in that
first half, and they were really good early on. Give
Nick Hill some credit. I think he's a really good coach,
really good play caller, had some things designed. But second
half they didn't move the ball. I mean, they couldn't
(09:32):
last against NDSU.
Speaker 5 (09:33):
It wasn't whoever's cutting up the Oranges at halftime. They
have figured things out at halftime against teams that have
done something against them in the last two weeks, and
they have shut them down. And it's not just anybody.
It's not like you're playing the bottom of the valley.
These are supposed to be two of the top ten
teams in the country and you're boat racing them in
the second half.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
Yeah, by the way, Orange is a halftime elite Oh,
absolutely absolutely elite. The Orange slice at halftime. With that,
let's take our first break. Take the break stay on
track here today plenty of breakdown, plenty more time to
break it down. Forty five seventeen dominant win for endsu
over Southern Illinois. Will take our first break back with
plenty more including your thoughts here on Bizon Hotline Next.

Let's get back to the breakdown of today's game for
the Bison. This is Bison Hotline.
Speaker 2 (14:19):
Here's start at three in the thirty two Williams takes
a snap, fires over the middle, intercepting. It's intercepting taken
on the far side of the field by the Bison.
They pick up the interception. It's Oliver locked. Oliver locked
with the interception, and he is being bombed by his
teammates coming out her sideline. The Fargo Davies kid with
(14:43):
his first career interception. Welcome back to Bonneson Hotline here
with you live from Applebee's just north of the Fargo Dome.
Andy Recoff, Jake Caavim. We've got Chris Hansen here as well.
In to a dominant effort forty five seventeen over Southern Illinois.
Big highlight right there late in the game, an interception
(15:05):
one of three fours turnovers for indiasue two teams that
came in. I think the Selukas were plus six in
the take give and Indias who beat some three to
nothing in that category of some very very big ones.
That's probably the least impactful of the three because it
comes late. And I know this is really good to
pain pain you here, Jake, but can you say something
nice but a four with Davies. Yeah, Oliver, it was good.
Speaker 3 (15:25):
It was a good cover two drop by Oliver and
I once we had got done with high school, I
was still I was friends with the Davies guys. I'm
Truman ware My, a great guy.
Speaker 2 (15:34):
A nice person. So yeah, by guns be by.
Speaker 4 (15:37):
Guys, and I never played them in high school. Shanley
was still two ways, so we never played in Fairport.
I don't have I don't have a horse in there
right now that I'm a coach, But yeah, I was
happy to see Oliver.
Speaker 3 (15:45):
That's you know, that was a really good play made.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
Local products are making an impact. How about Rehes Kessel
also a big time catch. Yeah, he's a really good
player and an athlete. He's running down their past safeties
right now too.
Speaker 5 (15:56):
And that going back to that interception by Oliver Luck
the pride of David High school goal Eagles might have
had a formative coach uh when he probably when he
was in fourth and fifth grade of flag football. Maybe
you know back in there.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
That's where Lee anyway, Yeah, it's the foundations belt.
Speaker 5 (16:13):
Like we I I sitting in the end zone. That's
one of the things I love about sitting in the
south end zone is I love watching plays develop side
to side. You get much better view of what's going
on with the game and how DJ did not see
him like this is not like some small guy. This
is a huge individual who was standing there and that
would have been one of those if he didn't catch it,
(16:34):
he would have heard about it for the rest of
the year. But you still, the players are in front
of you have to make it and Oliver look good
for him. And then right after that a nice catch
by again where amyer?
Speaker 3 (16:44):
Yeah it could have been.
Speaker 5 (16:46):
I mean, I mean we're kind of we're kind of
a Davy's takeover of the Okay, a certain coach, uh,
there might have been. There was a there was a
really strong coach back in third, fourth, fifth grade for
those kids in Flight football and FM Athletics. I'm just saying,
whoever that.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
Coach was, Tim Paul second scroll right, You have a
very nice check.
Speaker 5 (17:07):
Ah, I had nothing to do with that.
Speaker 2 (17:09):
There we go. Well, our sponsor of all of our
game day coverage here today and all week long of
NDSU and Southern Illinois and probably some of that sponsored
those Flake football teams would be my guest, Central Steel
Building and Construction. They know your bins are working overtime
in the fields right now, especially during harvest. Now is
the time to get your GSI grain bins ordered for
next year. Don't wait, secure your bins for twenty twenty six.
(17:31):
Today is that Central Steel Dot CO. That's Central Steel
Dot s O for Central Steel Building and Construction. That
was one of three turnovers, and we kind of mentioned
it already. Massive play by Keenan Wilson, who feels like
he is making big plays every single weekend. All of
them are occurring in the backfield for the opposing offense.
He makes a huge one there Dj Williams trying to
(17:52):
scramble on third and ten. He had done such a
good job of that in that first half, really made
NDISU pay a couple of times. Keenan Wilson knocks that
ball out all of a sudden, outher illinoistead of going
up at least thirteen to ten, they're in field goal range,
chance to take the lead going into the half. Now
the byingsna habit, they go down, they score the touchdow
they're up seventeen to then. That was a huge turning
point late in the first half.
Speaker 3 (18:10):
Yeah, it was the play of the game.
Speaker 4 (18:12):
I mean, obviously that second half we don't know how
that happens. Without that play like it probably could have been.
They go up thirteen ten and then Ndies who still
you know, beats the breaks off from in the second half.
But just at that point for Keen Wilson, make that play,
Toby and a and A pick it up and then
I think it was the next play was it eighty
yards to Bryce lanced down the sideline.
Speaker 5 (18:29):
Then boom boom next Oh my gosh.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
At that point it just all right, we're good. We
just basically put it in cruise control.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
It was a Barrika five yards incomplete pasta Rajah and
then Cole Peyton ran for like ten, picked up the
first down and then the big bomb up yeah to Bryce. Yep.
Speaker 5 (18:43):
And when you are obviously the team that is trying
to play from behind and trying to play catch up,
maybe not with the score, but in the pedigree. If
you would going into those games, you cannot be behind
three nothing in the giveaway takeaway. I mean, if you're
minus three in that your chance is to win, even
if if you're equal are minuscule. If you are minus
(19:04):
three in the takeaways, and to have that, and it's
just right before half, it's such a pivotal time. And
then to watch. That's a fourteen point swing. At least
let's call it a ten point swing, but a fourteen
point swing. If you're moving down the field to score
right before the end of the half and you give
that away, it's such as it's it's.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
Just something too. I mean, they chance to go up
thirteen to ten. NDSU would have gotten the ball back
with a less time, but they would score all of
a sudden. It's thirteen ten, give and a half. NDSU
comes out, scores a touch on a start the second half.
They're only done four right, and said they're done fourteen
Totally just felt monumental, right, it just felt like way
too big of a gap to be able to cover
with way NDY issue is playing, especially on the offensive side.
(19:41):
So a huge play there by Keenan Wilson at NDSU
plus three and the take give once again today mainly
because yah, they're taken away but they ain't given it away.
That just isn't happening right now with the way this
buys an offense is humming. We want your thoughts today
on the show seven zero one four seven six sixteen sixty.
Give us a call there on our Brady Martz Hot
line like mar Work in America has done. Mark, thank
(20:02):
you very much here with us on thighs and hotlines.
Speaker 18 (20:05):
Sir, Hey Andy, uh, you know what, you did a
great job on the sidelines last week. I will give
you that.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
Appreciate that. Thank you, sir. It was a great, great
game to be out there for. I loved it.
Speaker 18 (20:19):
I know. But you didn't get that NFL in NFL
Star interview like you did the last time you're doing it.
Speaker 2 (20:24):
I didn't. I gotta tell Illinois State they gotta recruit
more sons of famous football players. I guess I heard.
I got some TV time at the end chasing down
coach Paul's that he was running away from me.
Speaker 18 (20:34):
So all right, hey Jake, first, first question, You and
I talked about the standard is the standard two weeks ago?
Speaker 14 (20:41):
Right?
Speaker 18 (20:42):
Yeah, okay, I think it feels like we've had a
lot more mistackles than we have in the first five games.
I mean, just watching the game, there was just where
they where the where the was the quarterback and the
running backs more slippery or for the guys just I
(21:05):
don't know. And then mister Hanson, you still have not
given me days on coming down to play golf. In
Florida on via Twitter DM. So I'm still waiting on that,
and I want to know your handicap because if it's
more than twenty I'm gonna play you at twenty bucks
a hole.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
Thank you, Mark appreciated, Thanks for the call. I will
get to all of those those points. First off, his
handicap is Irons. You can tell you that one. Just kidding.
I don't know what his handney camp is. That's mine though,
definitely the Irons. I got nothing, no idea what I'm
doing with those clubs. Yeah, I mean somebody mentioned there
a couple of them. Mistackles definitely showed up a little
bit in the first half. I think part of that's
DJ Williams is a really good player. I think he
(21:45):
has a very solid player, has gotten better in the
passing game as well. Part of that's him. Some misstackles
on the running backs though as well. What can you
say about that, especially in the first half.
Speaker 4 (21:54):
You know, I think, well, not six out to me.
I think it was honestly the first play of the game.
I mean read option look with Toby and A and H.
We just over pursued it, got cut back on like
he came down to the sideline kind of looked at
him like, tobally, keep your leverage and he's like, yeah,
I know. But Williams is a good he's a physically
imposing runner. He's a good running quarterback. I think that posed.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
Issue enough size that you can bounce off.
Speaker 4 (22:16):
And he's slithery, so he's like, he's not gonna get
squared up by a tackler too often.
Speaker 3 (22:21):
A lot of it just comes and tackling. You know,
Hopefully the plan is to not have to make a
solo tackler, right.
Speaker 4 (22:27):
Hopefully you have you know, a leverage player and a
pursuit player that they can you know, make advice and
make attack two on one tackling.
Speaker 3 (22:34):
But I do, yeah, we got to tackle better at
the end of the day.
Speaker 4 (22:36):
And I think there's stuff that we can change just
on you know, sharp cuts when you're getting out of
you break. You can't round your break because if you
round your break, then that's when you get out of leverage.
Speaker 3 (22:44):
We can get into the weeds on that. But I
just I do think just the athletes were playing this
week were a little bit better than what you've seen.
Speaker 2 (22:50):
I think we said that against the Citadel and Tennessee
State Policy definitely said in a press conference of hey,
we made the tackles this week, but there's a there
was some tackles we made, but when we looked at
the tape were like, yeah, you're a little high on
this one, and maybe you didn't quite finish the way
you're supposed to. Maybe gets a better player you don't
get the tackle. I think that was maybe a case.
In the first off, these are some good players. I
mean something Will is a good team. They have good
athletes too.
Speaker 5 (23:10):
Yeah, I would say they're going to make place and
not being any great mind, but I would say not
all mistackles are created equal. Some are a little different.
If you're out in space and that's not you know,
if you're a defensive lineman versus a running back or
a quarterback, you're at the mismatch. Yeah, like you're maybe
lucky twenty five percent of the time to make that
tackle at that spot. So, yes, team tackling is a
(23:31):
big deal. Rallying around the football, slowing them down. That's
where the process is. I can deal with misstackles. A
mistackle where it goes for sixty yards is much different
than a mistackle that goes for eight to ten exactly.
You can forgive the eight to ten yards. You can
pick little things out, but I'm sorry, if you are
a defensive tackle or even sometimes a linebacker, you're at
(23:51):
the disadvantage against the guys who are shifting like that's
what they're supposed to do. And Mark, I will tell
you this, I'm a twelve handicap. Give me twelve. Give
me twenty bucks a whole. Mark, I will make you pay.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
Mark. I'll come with two. I'll play you straight up,
and I want to go fifty bucks.
Speaker 5 (24:06):
A hole every day of the week.
Speaker 2 (24:07):
I'll just call the match.
Speaker 5 (24:08):
Yeah, let's go call that love clearwater though.
Speaker 2 (24:10):
It's a great spot, absolutely one hundred percent. Thanks for
the call, though, Mark again, seven zero one four seven
six sixteen sixty. Got some other calls right now, Feel
free to keep on calling them. We'll get to as
many as we can. One text here quick, then we'll
get to another break from Tadak. The Polish Bison says Hello, gentlemen,
Congratulations to coaches and players on a great Missouri Valley
Football Conference win. Peyton has developed into another great QB
(24:32):
and it's great to see that he cannot overthrow Bryce
lance in quotations. Great play by Code Green today, but
the Special Teams needs to shure up its play. Can
you explain the logic when it is to catch the
punt and when to let it roll? Go Bison from
Tadak the Polish Bison. I agree on the first points here.
Peyton really developed into a good passer. I think that
was something that we were a little all not concerned about.
(24:54):
We wanted to see it on a more consistent basis
because you just hadn't, you know, throw it a whole lot.
He's dropping ones that that throw to Bryce, the one
after the turnover, like you didn't even.
Speaker 5 (25:02):
Have to move his hands. Yeah, it was right hands there.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
He didn't break stride either.
Speaker 3 (25:05):
If he was.
Speaker 5 (25:05):
Holding a crive gallon bucket, it was right in that bucket.
Speaker 2 (25:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (25:10):
And then the follow up of the back shoulder nobody's
catching that ball, but Bryce just beautiful two passes.
Speaker 2 (25:15):
In a row. The quarterback play overall has been really,
really good. I think about the change, Hey, the adjustments
he's making at the line right now. It's quarterback four
oh one, not quarterback one oh one. For sure. I'll
let you maybe talk about when do you fair catch it?
I think there's maybe a couple of ones that Jackson, Williams,
Rodger and House maybe want back as a fair catcher
could have gotten some yards on window let it roll.
Some of the special teams.
Speaker 4 (25:35):
Play yeah, so on on punt return number one goal
one hundred percent possession of the football.
Speaker 3 (25:40):
So if you're not comfortable catching.
Speaker 2 (25:41):
It, get the going to be is that upset up
on a fair catch when you don't.
Speaker 3 (25:46):
Turn it and if obviously you lose a lot of yards.
Speaker 4 (25:48):
But if it's a wobbler, number one rule, get the
football back to the offense.
Speaker 3 (25:53):
Number two catch everything right.
Speaker 4 (25:55):
I think that there's like a stat that every time
a punt is not fielded in the field of play
either punk returner, it's like thirteen to fifteen yards. So
you have to make your offense get an extra first
down every possession. And then when you're backed up, it's
normally heels on the five yard they're five or ten
depending on the coaching staff, and if you have to
take a step back, let it go hopefully bounces into
the end zone.
Speaker 3 (26:16):
So for all that those are the.
Speaker 4 (26:18):
Rules on catching the ten, don't catch, don't fair catch
something inside the ten. But at the end of the day,
as long as the offense gets like, you can't muff
a punt, that's Cardinals, cardinalson.
Speaker 3 (26:28):
Yeah, you can't have that.
Speaker 4 (26:31):
Done that and we haven't done that, but yeah, you
would like every punt in you should you should catch it.
Speaker 2 (26:36):
Just I notice they had Raja and Jackson both back,
not just Jackson back for the punt. I think teams
have been very much directional punting and trying to pin
him against the sideline, and then you throw Raji out there,
so it's harder to directional punks. You got two guys
who can catch it.
Speaker 3 (26:50):
And I was talking to Drew Kliner backup picker about that.
Speaker 4 (26:52):
So their punter has been so sporadic that they like
right left, middle, like kind of all over the place.
Speaker 3 (26:57):
So that's why we put two guys back there.
Speaker 2 (26:58):
Okay, that makes a little bit more sense it We
love the insight. Look at this guy getting on the
insight from you know, everyone on the silence. He knows
more stuff that we don't even know. He's coming up
with it. For sure, we'll take a break that. We'll

Welcome back to Bison Hotline on Bison sixteen sixty and
one oh seven point nine. The fox who stood out
today and made the place necessary to win for the Bison.
Here is the cool performer of the game.
Speaker 2 (31:31):
One eighteen remaining in the first half miles Marshall tight
end flanker outse the left, along with Jay Jones, two
receivers right and Praize Davis. Here's a Staple's his at
Williams under pressure, Baga knocked Pray, Bison got the ball,
ball got knocked Pray the pison abit Jayden Wilson knocked
it out. Toby and Night I recovered the Byzon takeover
(31:55):
one thirteen remaining a am the play he just got
done talking about in the last segment, an absolute game changing,
game breaking play there in this one his endsu wins
at forty five seventeen over Southern Illinois. Welcome back to
binnings in hotline here with you live from Applebee's just
north of the Fargo Dome, stopping out here by the way.
(32:16):
Our food just showed up. Yeah that for a little bit.
It is phenomenal. I got a new menu at him
in front of me. We'll tell you about that in
just a bit. But Keenan Wilson forcing that fumble at
the end of the first half when it was a
tie game ten ten in Southern Illinois was absolutely driving
down the field. Huge player there. Toby a Na with
the recovery as well. I think that's his first fumble
recovery of the year for Toby. Last year he was
(32:38):
like third of the nation or second of the nation
in terms of strips like forest fumbling it. Now he's
He's got the fumble recovery here this year, big time,
played by Keenan Wilson. Not the only play though, that
Keenan had in this ballgame. Look at his final stat
line in this one for Keenan Wilson. I've got three
total tackles, one solo half sack, one and a half
(32:58):
tackles for loss, and a four the worst fumble in
the game. That's about as dominant a game as you
can have from a defensive tackle. So Keenan Wilson, we're
going defensive. Let's go for our cool performer of the
game in the Coda refrigeration, our DRI cool performer of
the game, mister Keenan Wilson. DRI helps athletes succeed behind
the scenes, from the training room to the dining room,
(33:20):
from malk to medicon, ice to ice cream. DRI has
been serving Minnesota, Montana, and the Dakotas for over forty
years online at dak reff dot com. Keenan Wilson An
absolute game wrecord.
Speaker 5 (33:30):
Right now, As we talked about, mistackles are not all
created the same turnovers are also not created all equally. Yes,
when you can turn somebody over and your plus you know,
when they're on their way to score, and you can
make a extended red zone inside the thirty thirty five
when teams look like they're moving, When you can force
a turnover in those kind of situations, those it's as
(33:51):
good as money in the bank at that point.
Speaker 2 (33:53):
Southern Illinois have been twenty four of twenty five and
just scoring points in the red zone. That was a
posession they got in the red zone course to turno.
Speaker 4 (34:00):
That's huge, right, and especially too when offense can take
that and then go down and score to just kind
of just you know, put the the moralizing.
Speaker 3 (34:07):
Yeahyeah it is.
Speaker 5 (34:07):
And maybe that looks different too if NDSU isn't up
against the clock at the end of the half. Yeah
that if that happens to us seven minutes to go
in the quarter, it maybe looks a little different. But
the urgency of let's try to get this, let's push
it down the field, I think that that was that's
that's a double back breaker.
Speaker 3 (34:24):
We put such a premium on that too.
Speaker 4 (34:25):
One of our metrics that defense that we talked about
is like, how are we on sudden change? So if
si US defense is able to come out there after
the turnover and get a three and out going to.
Speaker 3 (34:33):
Halftime ten ten, so be it.
Speaker 4 (34:35):
But that's a huge metric that we talked about is Okay,
when offense turns the ball over, how are we going
to respond?
Speaker 3 (34:41):
How do we go out there?
Speaker 4 (34:41):
And that's one thing that NDSCU defense charts every week
is on sudden change.
Speaker 3 (34:45):
Obviously, have we turned the ball over yet this year?
Speaker 2 (34:48):
I think we have one knocked on the wood. So
don't have a whole lot from Nathan Hays to a.
Speaker 5 (34:55):
But that is that is one of those things that
in current day as we are with the game of football,
is that when those changes happened like that, the big
shot is always coming and you know it's coming. I
don't care if it's NFL or college football. You know
it's coming right away because you got a team that's reeling.
Speaker 3 (35:11):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (35:12):
Yeah, one interception. We have put the ball on the
ground three times but have not lost the fumblay Okay,
so no fumbles were covered by the other team. One
pick so far, not by Cole pat and by Nathan Hayes.
I think it was the Tennessee State. I think it
was one second second game of the season. Long ago, yeah,
very long time ago. We grasse. Nathan Hayes back out
there again today as well, got back out on the
field for the first time in a couple of weeks now,
(35:33):
I think four of the first five games he's been
out there for NDSU so far. But the buison went
at forty five seventeen over Southern Illinois. Let's get back
to Keenan Wilson here just a little bit. We remember
back in the offseason, Cody Heinsman decides to transfer to
go Away, going to the transfer portal, he goes somewhere
else and he said, man, it's a big losses. Cody
was really coming on at the end of last year,
is going to be huge piece in the defensive line.
(35:56):
You still got Jackson Dutonhffer, but now how to replace
in terms of like an interior pass rush. We have
heard about Keenan Wilson for a couple of years, but
he's just been behind the most starts and then behind
other people, and he's gonna behind Cody Heisman this year,
but a guy out of Eagan, Minnesota that has continued
to get better, and we've heard about him, I think
for good reason, because he has been an absolute stud
so far this year. We told you already a half sack,
(36:18):
a tackle and a half for loss today I've got
him down for now two sacks on the year already.
And also in terms of tackles for loss, he's gonna
be up to six and a half t f l's
and two forced or one forced fumble. So and that's
some pretty good production right there.
Speaker 3 (36:33):
Yeah, and I know obviously he was friends with Cody Heisman.
Speaker 4 (36:35):
Whenever you see a teammate leave, you know you're you're
not not You're not.
Speaker 3 (36:41):
Happy about it.
Speaker 2 (36:41):
You want to happen. You want a buddy of your.
Speaker 3 (36:43):
Exactly, you want your guys playing with you.
Speaker 4 (36:44):
But I think to it in the same breath, he
took that as an opportunity, like Cody Heisman was kinda
be gonna be our future defensive tackle if you can
feature a defensive tackle. Kean stepped up to that and
he's like, hey, he's gone. I got to be the dude.
Speaker 24 (36:57):
Now.
Speaker 3 (36:57):
Me and Jackson duten have for a gonna be your
starting nose, and I think hes stepped into that role.
Speaker 2 (37:01):
Perfectly and also shut out Logan Larson. They also had
some really good plays in the back. That's a good
rotation right now, there we go. That again is our
dri hot performer of the game. Let's go or cool
performer of the game. Part of me hot performers in
pre game. That's with our good friends at Colon Insulation.
Let's go back to the phone lines now, Tim and Combe,
North Dakota giving us a call. Tim, you're here with
(37:23):
us on bides on hotline. Thank you for waiting patiently.
What do you want to talk about?
Speaker 25 (37:28):
Well, I never get to see the games on TV
because I've farmed and so I'm listening to bis in
sixteen sixty or James Ton, but I'm in the tractor
or the Sami druck or whatever. So what I'm wondering
is is Cole Payton in his style or his passing?
Speaker 18 (37:45):
Is he similar to like Kenny Stabler or.
Speaker 26 (37:47):
Steve Young.
Speaker 2 (37:51):
A couple of lefties out there. I like it, Tim,
appreciate the phone call, and thank you for everything you're
doing out there with Harvest. Thank you for listening to it.
A point nine in the Fox wherever you listen. Obviously
it's harvest time. We were thinking about all of our
farmers out there. There are probably still in the combines
right now. Is the sun's going down. It's what they do.
Kenny Stabler, what thoughts on what Cole Payton just looks
(38:11):
like out there as a lefting.
Speaker 5 (38:12):
Both well, things they have in common left handed quarterbacks,
so you're automatically going to be put into that whether
you like it or not. But then the e loosivity
of being able to get away and do the runs.
But what I really liked about Cole Payton, and I
forgive me, I don't know what the time was of
the game or what the play was, but there was
a play watching where the wide receiver hadn't even gotten
(38:35):
into the break yet going towards the sideline. So you're
in the middle of the field going towards the numbers
and you throw that ball before the guy has even
made his break. It is one of the most beautiful
things to watch in all of football. When he let
the ball rip, the guy was planting the right foot
heading towards the numbers, towards the out abound, and it
was easily led by ten yards right towards the and
(38:59):
when you see something like that, you are at another
level in confidence. It's not just skill, because there's a
lot of people who can do that with skill, but
you gotta have the confidence to do it. And I
think that's where Bryce, where Cole Payton is at excuse me,
is that he, I think, is becoming more and more
confident and.
Speaker 2 (39:15):
I can make those kids in a flow state, right and.
Speaker 5 (39:18):
The wide receivers are gonna be there when I throw
the ball to a certain area, and that was a
thing of beauty.
Speaker 2 (39:24):
I don't know if he does some sort of meditation
before the game or if he's got one of those
those ztting guards, but the guy's in a flow state.
He just goes out there and I think he doesn't
even know he's playing football. It looks like he is
steps ahead. He's just so confident in such a groove.
And a lot of credit goes to Dan Larson for
that calling plays. They're just they're dialed up right. Give
him kind of quick, easy reads and and then he
can kind of make some adjustment.
Speaker 5 (39:45):
Not taking big chances either. That's another factor is that
it can be you know you're pressing. I know this
offense is supposed to be good. I know these wide receivers,
so you start to press a little bit.
Speaker 2 (39:56):
Yeah, right, Like it looks really natural. And I will
say this, how does it look? How do you compare
him to a lot of people have compared him to
Tim Tebow. Yeah, that's been a pretty pretty common comparison
We've heard from other people, whether they be opponents or
just people watching DSU And we see throughout the days,
I'm gonna just walking around and be like, it's kind
of Tim tebow ish. And I asked that one makes
(40:16):
a little bit of sense from the mobility standpoint.
Speaker 4 (40:18):
Yeah, he's who we thought, He's who everyone wanted Tim
Tebow to be. Yeah, because I think Cole throws a
little bit better than Tim Tebow. Not quite like he's
not as like fifty as Michael Vick. I'm just thinking
of lefty quarterbacks. Stavars Jackson left you No, No, he
was a right.
Speaker 3 (40:35):
Yeah, sorry to bring that one up to a he's
a bigger, stronger than you.
Speaker 5 (40:42):
But I think for him, it's all about the confidence.
We had heard for years that the skill was there,
but was he going to be able to when he
was the guy. Was he going to be able to
take that step into the passing game and not just
the running game. And more and more you're singing in
every game. I mean, what was he today, sixteen of eighteen.
You know, like the completion percent just through the roof.
That shows to me you're confident in the throesi, you're
(41:03):
letting go out of your hand.
Speaker 2 (41:05):
I'm thirteen of sixteen for two forty three. Goe two
forty three. I mean that it's a rating of two
twenty nine, which is ridiculous. Eighty one percent completion percentage.
Didn't throw a ton, right, but these are big chunk plays.
And when we've talked about his completion percentage, he's not
He's not thinking dunks. I mean, he is going down
the field. He is taking shots down the field. There
was a picture posted by Sam Niederman or a good
(41:27):
friend obviously who calls the games on radio, and uh,
he posted a picture of him put some stats on
cold Payton on Twitter. Was great, but the picture was
of Cole Payton kind of rolling out and I still
couldn't get used to the ball in his left hand
in the front and just looked so unnatural. It looks
so weird, but obviously it's exactly what he's used to doing.
And he's also used to scoring a lot two hundred
and forty three yards in the air and a touchdown
(41:47):
today for Cole Payton, I want you just add in
a nice rushing touchdown there as well. For Cole, he
has eight carries for forty eight yards and two rushing touchdown,
so it counts for three of them. Uh, and I
got him over a three hundred and eighty yards or
three hundred and ninety yards more than that total offense
to wow, riback darn good from number nine out there.
(42:07):
He's pretty fine there for ends you one more phone call,
will take a break then, and it's been waiting for
a little bit, so I'll get to him now. Milt
in Atlanta given us a call. Milt, thanks for the
call here on Bison Hotline. What do you want to
talk about?
Speaker 24 (42:18):
Hey, I'm from Fargo, former military veterans, and I just
wanted to say when I talk to people down here
in Atlanta, they just go what's in the water, and
then you know you have your pro team, but you
can always rely on the Bison to kind of keep
(42:38):
you up for the weekend. Because you watch that first
and you just think, you know, is how many years
has this gone on? You know, of is it?
Speaker 2 (42:49):
You know?
Speaker 24 (42:50):
Then from the Division one and then the winning that
they've done, you know, I mean, it's unbelievable and it
actually you know, people say to me down into Atlanta,
they just be pretty proud of that team. I go, yeah,
I mean, how does it keep happening, you know for
all these years? I just I don't ever want to
(43:10):
see it go away.
Speaker 2 (43:11):
Just from fifteen years, I guess I could say at
this point appreciated, thank you for their service as well.
Speaker 5 (43:17):
So and each team, uh is very quick to point
out the people that they're standing on the shoulders of right,
like they're all about you, hear it. Oh, we got
such a great culture. And it's not just a slogan,
it's actually a thing. And I think that a lot
of that comes from you don't want to disappoint the
people that.
Speaker 2 (43:35):
Came from the Before You foundation was l a long
time ago. You go back, yeah, sixties, you can go
back the long ways, before the D one days. The
success of this.
Speaker 5 (43:42):
Program, yeah there was. There was a great article this
week that was done by the staff of the Fargo
Forum about the current team going to hang out with
their their teammates of previous years. Is running back Yah,
right right, guy next to us, And it's a real thing.
Like would you want to walk up to Phil Hanson
knowing that you were the guy who blanked up the
whole situation? Would you want to walk up to Tony
Sattern as a running back and say I didn't hold
(44:04):
up my end of the deal. Like, there's a real
thing there.
Speaker 3 (44:08):
Yeah, it's unbelievable.
Speaker 4 (44:09):
Obviously I don't have an experience at any other program,
but having guys that I know that have been at
their places and played here, it's different. And like you said,
it's not just a slogan. It's not just you know,
coach speak. It's not just like a you know, a buzzword.
What we have here, you know, the Bison brotherhood with
former players, the current players and just our you know,
(44:30):
our support system within the region, all the fans and everything.
Speaker 3 (44:33):
Like, it's different here.
Speaker 4 (44:35):
I remember Coachensen said like, if we could bottle it
and sell it, we'd all be millionaires because every every
college in the country be trying to buy it from us. Yeah,
And so we just talked about buys and pride, and
everyone kind of has their own different definition of what
bride and pride means to them. I think that that's
what makes it so special. You can ask you know,
eighty different former players. They're all going to give you know,
the overarching themes are gonna be the same, but everyone
(44:56):
has kind of a different definition of it. And it's
it's an extremely special place. And like you said, uh,
it's gone on since long before I was here, and
it's gonna keep going long before any.
Speaker 2 (45:06):
Of us are here. The other Dan, it's really unique
about NDSU. By the way, I wouldn't want to tell
Phil Hanson I lost his pen, much less give him
up the tradition of NDSU.
Speaker 3 (45:15):
You just look at me.
Speaker 2 (45:17):
I'm pretty sure last year I did a half time
report in the booth and I accidentally took his pen
with me when I went like, oh, walked out he
ow that next commercial break, where's my pen? It was
not a good time for me. But the other thing
that's unique about NDSU is you see sometime for the
Alabama like Nick Saban, right, he was kind of the
figurehead of everything. When he leaves, they're still good, but
maybe not at quite the same level you see with
some other programs where certain coach leaves or a player
(45:39):
of leaves. It's just not quite the same. Dysu's done
this with how many coaches now, Like every time a
head coach leaves. I had a conversation with the guy today, like,
I think Jim Poule's actually gonna go somewhere? Is that
gonna be the fall? Like, No, how many times we've
gone through a new coach now, it's just it goes
on to the next one. It's not bigger than any
one person. We talked about Randy Hedberg, and Randy Hedberg
was a living legend with NDSU and in the state
of North Dakota and it still is to many were
(46:00):
And so I'm in the opposites this week. You can't
get away. But he left. Quarterback play looks pretty good, right,
Like it's more than just one person, one player, one coach.
It's a collective effort and everybody really knows that and
buys into it.
Speaker 5 (46:13):
I think it's kind of been a weird I had
a discussion today with a good friend of mine that
played basketball up at UND and we're talking about the
UND program. And I had said you know, it's one
of those things that when Bubba had was you know,
replaced this last year. Sometimes it's good to get that.
If you hear the same voice, it goes deaf to you.
Speaker 2 (46:33):
Yep.
Speaker 5 (46:34):
NBSU has not had that same voice in the locker
room for fifteen years. It's been a different head. By
four years, it changes, Yeah, exactly. So you can look
at that as a blessing and a curse, and NDISU
is taking it as a blessing that you can continue
your journey up. And I think that that's very important.
One of the few coach who's been able to do
that was coach Stigelmeyer down at SCSU that you know,
(46:57):
at the last end of his career, the words were
still impacting. And I think that that's a big thing
and that NBSU has always been I don't need to
try to push you up. Well, you should just look
behind us and see and that should push you off.
Speaker 2 (47:10):
The other thing about that voice, yeah, the voice might change,
but the message is staying the same, right.
Speaker 27 (47:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (47:14):
The head coaches they're bringing in, they're buysing guys through
and through. They know they have the pride of this
program behind them, and Tim Paul's like's a buising guy.
Speaker 3 (47:22):
Like you said, you hit a nail on the head there.
Speaker 4 (47:23):
With administration, it's about bringing in the right guy, and
that guy bringing in his right support staff with coordinators
and position coaches and has been doing.
Speaker 2 (47:32):
Williams Sam's they look at the guys they coached, brought
in card that those.
Speaker 4 (47:36):
Guys want to come back because they know that the
opportunities they're going to have coming back to this program
is going to just, you know, catapult them into wherever
they want to be in life.
Speaker 5 (47:44):
I'm glad they don't, but again, I'm glad that so
much of the Missouri Valley is not just every year
poached one of our coaches every single years.
Speaker 2 (47:51):
Like them the FBS.
Speaker 5 (47:52):
I know it's it's I don't want to even say it,
but it should happen every single year.
Speaker 2 (47:57):
More often last year and then great time by Dan
Lawson this year. But it has happened. We saw former
Bison lebron uh yeah n at Northwest Northwestern a huge
one today against Penn State. We'll get to that here.
Speaker 5 (48:09):
It's a marginal win. Yeah, that's huge.
Speaker 2 (48:11):
We thought that would Lee Proncinski, former coach at NDSU,
and now he's a decordinator on the opposite side against
Southern Illinois this this week last game. So lots of
Bison connections all the way throughout college football. Right now.
We got to take a break, though, we'll take a break.

Cole Payton in the shotgun Bury Capenu to his left.
Cole calls for Bryce in motion and hands to Bryce
on a jet Sweet cuts it up Feld with a
thirty wheeling back inside of the courting. There he goes
a crossbit pail. He might go all the way. He's
sign the twenty five the ten touchdown right out of
the gate, Bryce Lance seventy five yards Jet Sweet touchdown
(53:28):
Mison and at the Su grabs a lead six to
three year of the opening corner. That might have been
a sign of things to come. First play and already
a touchdown for NDSU. The seventy five yard rushing touchdown
for Bryce Lance are North and Vapor and CBD. Highlight
of the game by North and Vapor and CBD in
(53:49):
Downtown Forego South, Fego Osgood and Bimidgie life too short
for watered down choices experienced the best at Northern, Vapor
and CBD. I'm never always a fan of the key
of talking about keys of the game of like saying
fast start when after a fast start, I think that's
about as fast of the stories you can have. Their
boys first play starts down. Also maybe demoralizing for Southern
(54:11):
Illinois a little bit had the lead up three nothing, Kay,
we're feeling good. It's gonna stop here. One play gone.
Speaker 3 (54:16):
Yeah, Bryce Lance is fast, he can run.
Speaker 2 (54:19):
I'm special.
Speaker 4 (54:20):
I'll ask coaching Apa Kramer. So we wear these like Catapult, they're.
Speaker 2 (54:25):
Basically GPS trackers.
Speaker 4 (54:26):
Yeah yeah, it looks like yeah, it looks like a
sports bar that you wear, but as a GPS tracker
and at the tracks how fast you're moving. Be really
interested to see what Bryce got to on that touchdown run.
Speaker 5 (54:36):
It was to me seeing him do that was one
of those things of the jet sweep.
Speaker 3 (54:41):
Christian Watson.
Speaker 5 (54:42):
Christian Watson absolutely even before that maybe yeah, Christian Watson
for sure. But at the same time, you're like, okay,
is that play, Like, what are you thinking that play
is going to be when you draw it up every
play that you draw it up. Are you think he's
going to be a touchdown? Or is that something that
(55:02):
they saw on film that that Because it's a very
specific play you maybe only run two of those three
of those Max A game, they had to have saw
something that they were gonna set that up for the
first play of the game.
Speaker 4 (55:15):
Had to have Yeah, I probably just set it up
and then you know, hopefully get the linebackers sealed off
by the tackle and then get Bryce in space with
I think there was maybe the safety in the corner
both and then one.
Speaker 2 (55:28):
Of them took kind of a bad angle and he
just cut on them.
Speaker 3 (55:30):
And that's what they said at that point.
Speaker 2 (55:32):
Yeah, no one's gonna catch him, really, and he had
blockers out in front of him.
Speaker 3 (55:34):
Get your good players with the ball in space, and
good things happened.
Speaker 2 (55:37):
That's one of them. I think you mentioned, like did
they see something on film or something? I don't. Talking
to Dan Larsen, he's made a big emphasis I gotta
get playmakers got to get the ball. And that's one
thing I talked to him this week on our pregame show.
We were talking about Bryce and his big block on
the the Brika touchdown last week against Illinois State, and
he said, that's one thing I kind of, you know,
I could do a better job up against the Red Birds,
(55:58):
was get those guys going early. We took a litle
while to get to Bryce. I felt like we could
have gotten him the ball earlier a first Playt's get
the get the ball in our playmaker's hands one way
that when you're doing with a jet sweep, like you
don't have to rely on a whole lot of other things.
Like the ball is gonna get to him. He's gonna
have the ball in his hands right, We're gonna guarantee
him with him a touch. It's like you're a good
player in basketball, It's get him a toucher, like get
him an easy, easy basket. I think that was part
(56:19):
of it. And also they have loved all season long,
and I know they loved it this week. The matchup
of their receivers blocking the opposing cornerbacks. I think that's
an area NDSU feels like they can exploit most weeks.
They definitely exploited it again this week they did against
Illinois State. You can get the ball in the perimeter,
assuming the offensive line is gonna do their job, and
then you've got tight ends on the linebackers. You've got
(56:39):
receivers on corners and safeties. They like the matchups there.
And then you're asking Bryce can you beat one, maybe
two guys in space? He's gonna do that more often
than not. Woo.
Speaker 3 (56:49):
And then and then just doing my due diligence on
the sideline during the game, So I ask what you do? Yeah,
so I asked.
Speaker 4 (56:54):
I always asked Nathan Hansley, what are our openers today?
So that play was it was a power read. So
Cole Payton's reading the linebacker. So cop Payton has the
we call it iron. Cole Payton has the ability because
we're pulling a guard inside and run QB power right
up the middle.
Speaker 5 (57:09):
YEP.
Speaker 3 (57:09):
So that that was a replay. So I don't know
if they had saw something, but obviously I think he
made the right read.
Speaker 4 (57:13):
Yep, he'd but I'm guessing the either d end or
outside linebacker stayed in the box to stop Cole yep, and.
Speaker 3 (57:21):
Then that's where you just had to give it to Bryce.
Speaker 5 (57:23):
And because much like one of our former co hosts here,
James Hendricks, had talked about when in the National Championship
game against JMU with the fake field goal, that if
we saw this lineup, we were doing it. And so
the same kind of thing that you know that they
had saw watching tape that.
Speaker 3 (57:37):
If you if you see this when we come out
in this formation, this is how they're gonna line to
and if.
Speaker 2 (57:42):
They do this, do it, you know, and and great
coaches talk about maybe we have tendencies. Right when you're
try and break your own tendencies a little bit, maybe
they had a tendency we saw come on this formation,
they're gonna line up this way, we might be able
to beat them.
Speaker 5 (57:53):
It's just it's just not a play that normally happens
on a first play at the game, Like it just
had to be something that they're like, I think we
might have something right away against it. And great, great start.
Speaker 2 (58:04):
Definitely a highlight worthy play. Highlight of the game right there,
Bryce Lance taking it all the way to the tape.
Speaker 5 (58:09):
On the end zone. I'd have to break the tape
on the end zone run.
Speaker 2 (58:13):
He absolutely did. That was great to see and he
is turning some heads up in the press row where
some of those NFL scouts sit. I can tell you
that stuff as well. A final line for Bryce today,
you look what he was able to accomplish. Obviously the
rushing touchdown right there. He had a receiving touchdown as well.
Had well over one hundred yards seventy five yards on
(58:34):
the ground and you got him for forty eight yards
receiving today four receptions or sorry, a long of forty
eight receiving seventy nine yards receiving. Pardon me, you don't
want to short the guy. So over one hundred and
fifty total yards and two touchdowns on the day for
Bryce Lance.
Speaker 5 (58:50):
And nobody now for about five hundred days has called
him Trey. Yeah, yeah, because we did at the beginning
of last season.
Speaker 2 (58:57):
It was just it was what it does.
Speaker 5 (58:59):
He is making a new for himself.

in that backfield right now. We already mentioned Keenan Wilson
(01:04:00):

Logan Larson, A shout out there as well, like I
was causing some havoc in the back field. He's been
really good too.
Speaker 3 (01:04:07):
He has been.
Speaker 4 (01:04:07):
It's been good to see him, you know, he's probably
I'm pretty close with Logan Larsen.
Speaker 3 (01:04:12):
So to see him play, well, he's always is always fun.
But you know what.
Speaker 4 (01:04:17):
I do, Yeah, I kind of try to stay away
from most of him, but I'll give him knocks and stuff.
Speaker 3 (01:04:21):
Like that when they make a good play.
Speaker 2 (01:04:23):
But just what any coach every once in a while
stay away from.
Speaker 4 (01:04:28):
He might try to rip someone's head off. He's so
he's fiery. Yeah, yeah, but uh no, just NDS defensive line.
Just building that depth and seeing that depth what we've
you know, relied on the last decade. We're starting to
kind of see that come to fruition with guys like
you know, Logan Larsen making plays, Jack Uliano, who you
called player.
Speaker 2 (01:04:49):
He was gonna get a sack, he did it early early,
he said DJ Scott was gonna get a touchdown as well.
Speaker 3 (01:04:53):
He got all those Look at this guy.
Speaker 4 (01:04:55):
But to see some of these, you know, you know,
secondary figures on the D line starting to step up
and make plays is good to see.
Speaker 5 (01:05:01):
When you have a good defensive line, It's kind of
like when you have a good offensive line. It just
makes such a huge difference. It makes everybody else's job easier.
Defensive line, their main job is to occupy people, let
the linebackers and the safeties come up and make plays.
But when they make plays, it's like a bonus, right,
Like it's a buy. Wouldn't get one free. And if
(01:05:21):
you're a good offensive line and you can create space,
then the running backs are going to be able to
do their thing. And so to watch Indiasu's defensive line
with a lot of guys who are kind of unproven,
I think it's safe to say. Besides, maybe Jackson had
a little bit more tooth to them than some of
the others. You are making more money on your returns
when defensive line can make plays.
Speaker 2 (01:05:43):
That sure is the case. It's a great team when
everybody on the team's making an impact. We've been a
great team here as well, Bizon Hotlin, not just US three,

when we eventually take it. That one was a fun one.
Well you're with you live at Applebee's just north of
the Fargo Dome. Stopping out here, we said we were
going to talk about the food. Jakes has already gone. Yeah,
he crushed that one. What'd you have this week?
Speaker 5 (01:06:28):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (01:06:29):
I had the Asian Spicy Asian Chi chicken sandwich. Yeah,
I had it.
Speaker 2 (01:06:35):
It was chicken sandwich he had in about twelve seconds.
So I went with the new item on the menu today,
the grilled Cheese cheeseburger. So grilled cheese and cheeseburger all
rolled in on one. You get dip it in tomato soup. Phenomenal.
Highly recommend. It's kind of like never done it.
Speaker 5 (01:06:50):
But the brother their k City at burger which is
one of my favorite things that Applebee's is the CA
City is never wrong. So you take a sandwich based
thing and turn it into a burger. Yeah, that's what
they did. And as soon as it brought it out,
oh my god, I should have got that.
Speaker 2 (01:07:03):
It's phenomenal. Comes with some fries here as well. It's
part of their two for twenty five menu item here
right now, which one was it? You just pick up
what the sandwich you had?
Speaker 4 (01:07:11):
I had the sweet and spicy chicken sandwich with was fantastic.
It was thirty seconds to eat.
Speaker 2 (01:07:16):
And Chris hans And always goes with the hottest flavor
of I just I.
Speaker 5 (01:07:19):
Want the hottest buffalo you got, and I want an
extra side of the hot buffalo. It's a double dipped.
I'm traditional. I'm not a child, so I go blue
cheese because most of the kids like the ranch. I
don't believe in the ranch. I'm you know, I'm an
old guy, a lot of eight years moldy cheese, a
lot of eight year old's like's fine, I get it.
But yes, any true wing aficionado, ranch is a dirty word,
(01:07:44):
and I am hard on that. I will die on
that hill, on the blue cheese hill.
Speaker 2 (01:07:48):
Well, a good word is Applebee's. I'm good in the
neighborhood like you here at Applebee's. Here for every single
Bison hotline after the games all season long. That two
for twenty five men. You take advantage of that one. Also,
they're great NFL mucho cocktails. Come here for some NFL
football tomorrow. I know the Vikes aren't playing, but plenty
of games to take in. Got their running back Dak
(01:08:08):
and their juicy sweep San Kria, all sorts of great
deals here at Appleby's. All Saturday and Sunday. You're home
for college and NFL football right here at Appleby's. So
he said, we're going to take a check of our
Jiffy lupafargo scoreboard this segment as well. So let's do
that here quickly. Start off first in the Missouri Valley
Football Conference. Some other marquee games obviously the binings and
(01:08:28):
win today forty five seventeen over Southern Illinois, big game
up in Grand Forks as well, as und was hosting
a Youngstown State could have been a top twenty five matchup.
Youngstown State was technically number twenty six, they were first
in receiving votes, they weren't a top twenty five team.
Un D was thirteenth in the rankings. Overall, U and
D wins this one pretty convincingly. Overall, they're up twenty
(01:08:50):
eight to seven. At the end of halftime. Kaminski was
looking really good again the quarterback for North Dakota, and
they end up winning this game against Youngstown State and
then dominant fashion.
Speaker 3 (01:09:01):
Guys. Yeah, you and He's gonna be solid this year.
Speaker 4 (01:09:04):
Obviously, you know you go Indiana State Market or was
it iconnor Mark said we should win that game?
Speaker 3 (01:09:10):
They said it, not me. We got every game one
and O each.
Speaker 2 (01:09:13):
Week, we should win it. We should win every game.
Speaker 3 (01:09:15):
We should win every game.
Speaker 4 (01:09:16):
But no, just coming into South Coast State, I think
you and D. I think, looking at the valley where
we're at right now, obviously the NDSU is number one.
I think no one's gonna argue with that SSU. I
think you and D is a third team. And it'll
be exciting to play those two games on the road.
I know it's fun to have those games at home,
but to go on the road, hostile environment with your
group of.
Speaker 3 (01:09:36):
Guys, nothing's better than that.
Speaker 2 (01:09:38):
And thirty five to seventeen the.
Speaker 5 (01:09:39):
Final, by the way, Okay, and Youngstown coming off a
nice performance against the Jacks last week in Youngstown. I
think a lot of people thought, ooh, this might be
a spot that maybe they're on their way up. Un
D covers and plays much better at home than on
the road. They've had a couple of tough losses this
year already, So.
Speaker 2 (01:09:57):
Both those losses on the road, Yeah, on Tana at
Kansas and.
Speaker 5 (01:10:00):
Going up to Grand Forks. It's just it's a different bent.
It's a whole thing.
Speaker 2 (01:10:03):
I don't know what it is, but you know, I
want necessarily, I think it's like a seven hundred day
losing strick on the road. They ended against Northern Iowa.
Speaker 5 (01:10:11):
So yeah, they play much better at home traditionally, as
most teams do.
Speaker 2 (01:10:16):
So they win thirty five seventeen Youngstown State every year.
We're like, gotta get a Marquie win. You can't just
get into the playoffs beating Indiana State and Murray States
and Missouri States because you're seven and four. So no
Marque win for them. A big matchup. By the way,
next week you indeed goes to Southern Illinois. That's gonna
be a huge matchup. We'll be talking about next week
all week long. SDSU at home against Northern Iowa. They
(01:10:37):
win thirty one to three. Looks dominant on the outside,
and it is a dominant effort. They never really trailed.
They were really threatened in this game, but it was
fourteen to three at the end of the first half
and were thought, man, it feels like they should be
up by more. In Northern Iowa, Hobo days for them
as well. They win thirty one three.
Speaker 4 (01:10:52):
Your thoughts, Yeah, I think maybe just coaches always talk, oh,
I can't stand homecoming because they're so many distractions we got,
you know, obviously there's not or there is homecoming Kings
and Queens and college, but Roman not on the football team.
But just maybe South Coast State was they're looking two
forward to go to Taco John's after the game.
Speaker 2 (01:11:11):
Or maybe Chase musically nineteen of thirty one, two hundred
and fifty one yards, two touchdowns. One of the thing
its kind of been interesting. Chase Mason, we've known as
running quarterback before right, seven carries negative two yards the
two rushing touchdowns, but took some sacks. They've been up
a lot of sacks so far this year.
Speaker 5 (01:11:28):
And it used to always be that the Mark Farley
teams right that have gone into Brookings have always played
them tight. Very don't get me wrong. You're still losing
by twenty some points. I mean that's not it's not tight.
But at the same time, it's you just take care
of business. It's weak to week, get through this game,
get through next game, and let's see what's gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (01:11:48):
So one more in the valley. If you can have
a win that inspires zero confidence, that would be what
South Dakota did today, going to Tara Hate and beating
Indiana State nineteen to fourteen.
Speaker 5 (01:11:59):
That's it.
Speaker 2 (01:12:00):
Nineteen to fourteen.
Speaker 5 (01:12:01):
Think they were three touchdown favor into Tera Dice.
Speaker 4 (01:12:04):
Settle for a lot of shield gar laid, Indiana State
spread and Northwestern money line.
Speaker 5 (01:12:10):
God, we'd all be I wouldn't even have showed up today.
Speaker 2 (01:12:12):
USD you got a field goal, go Farlan. I'm not showing.
They were up ten nothing then ten seven, had a
settle for a field goal at the end of the
first half, So for a field goal in the third course,
it'll for a field goal again. It's just there was
a lot of field goals, weren't able to punch it out.
They win nineteen to fourteen, one late touchdown by Indiana
State to make in nineteen fourteen. So there you go.
Used gets the win they got in two wins in
a row. Still just gonna get very tough for them
(01:12:33):
these next couple of weeks. I think SDSU was on
the schedule coming up. Uh, Southern Illinois is gonna be
on that one. They've got und on that schedule too,
So it's gonna get pretty tough here for USD the
rest of the way. But they do have back to
back wins. Also, Illinois State's up twenty eight to ten
at Murray State. The rest of the scores there in
the valley. We'll touch on some more FBS scores a
little bit later. Gotta take a break again here, We'll
take a break. We'll come back. Plenty more texts to

yarder down the sideline Right after that fumble. A couple
of plays after the fumble forced by Keenan Wilson and
recovered by NDSU. He hits the big one to number five,
that nine to five connection. It's working all day long
for NDSU. Right now. The very next play they hit
him for the touchdown as well. We touched on this
play specific play, which is, by the way, our gateway
(01:17:48):
fiber connection of the game. That could not have been
a better throw by Cole Peyton. Bryce Lance does not
break stride and he could just put his hand out
and it would have hit him as his arms are
moving in and out. The little bucket could not have
thrown that any better down the sideline.
Speaker 3 (01:18:03):
Yeah, you couldn't have handed it to him better, like
st if I was handing you a football, right.
Speaker 29 (01:18:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:18:10):
Just though that connection, the nine to five Dolly Parton
connection with Bryce Lance and Cole Payton is you know,
it's special and just how lucky are we just to
have the quarterback play we have at NDSU.
Speaker 2 (01:18:23):
It's it really is unbelievable.
Speaker 5 (01:18:25):
It almost feels Packer esque. If it has not been
a position that really an NDISU, I think you would
go back to maybe uh Morales maybe h like it's
it's just been a solid thing for like a decade
plus where the quarterback has been the position you have
not questioned worried about. Maybe this year there was some
(01:18:47):
trependition because of the unknown, what's this guy going to be?
Speaker 2 (01:18:50):
And I see him throw a couple of passes have
all been pretty and I.
Speaker 5 (01:18:53):
Think Cole is obviously more than answered any of those questions.
Speaker 2 (01:18:58):
It's solos, like I think, like a USD, like they
had Chris Streveler, amazing great quarterback, legendary for their program especially,
and then they kind of been trying to find themselves
and they had Bowman and it was good for a
little bit. Now he's try of taking some serious steps back.
In least in my opinion, STSU.
Speaker 5 (01:19:12):
Has done a good job. Yeah, they had a really
nice run with Arren Christian and then into Gronowski. I
think that was a you know, old a Docan I
think was in there. Yeah, so they've also but you
can have those things, but then are you winning natties?
Like that's all that matters in the FCS.
Speaker 2 (01:19:28):
And Montana's had like a new quarterback every year for
like five years. That's Montana one of the premier teams
in the division. So how consistency is great?
Speaker 5 (01:19:36):
That pass was so great if you missed that. Seeing
that today, it was one of those like.
Speaker 2 (01:19:41):
Wow, it could not have been placed any better. It
was just crazy how I didn't even see not only
Bryce break stripe, but his hands didn't break strike Just
as his hand was coming up. Was like, how kind
of deps does it take?
Speaker 5 (01:19:52):
If you were going to try to do that against air?
Wouldn't be easy to know?
Speaker 2 (01:19:57):
YEA, that is our Gateway Fiber connect of the game.

no surprise rate changes. Gateway Fiber get a really nice
internet sign up at Gatewayfiber dot com our connection of

Bill and Arizona waiting on the line, wants to talk
about Peyton blocking. It sounds like Bill, you're here with
us on bones and hotline.
Speaker 26 (01:20:37):
Sir, Yeah, I love your postgame show and listening to that.
You know, you talked about the surprise maybe cold Peyton
wasn't what a good athlete he is and how fast
he is. But on Bryce's seventy five yard when he
cut back to the sidelines, I didn't see this until
I watched the replay. He was cold. Peyton was leading
(01:20:59):
the blocking, running ride for stride with with Bryce Lance.
What kind of quarterback does that? Everybody knows Price is fast,
and that may be the most impressive thing I've seen
him do. And that's just unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (01:21:16):
Coleman had a slight head start, but yeah, he wished
driver's stride with with Bryce the whole way down the field.
Those guy's chasing running full speed one hundred.
Speaker 26 (01:21:23):
Yeah, yeah, and he's he only slowed down. He got
got in the way of one defender and then only
slowed down to avoid a penalty on a block. And
then it's just amazing.
Speaker 18 (01:21:34):
That's it.
Speaker 2 (01:21:34):
Thanks guys, Yeah, thank you, Bill, appreciate the call. Yeah,
I love the Everyone is so selfless on this team.
But we saw Bryce Lands throw a big block for
Barrika last week on the sidelines on a long touchdown run.
We see your quarterback usually a jet sweepers like here
you go, and now I'll just sit back here right
Like he's taken off. His first thought is okay, got
the ball to him, let's take off and find a block.
Speaker 4 (01:21:55):
Yeah, and I know too, like obviously your offensive lineman
full back, Like when they see Cole pay, when they
see the quarterback out there trying to throw a block,
trying to get involved, like just for team morale, Like
we've got your quarterback out there throwing a block on
a linebacker, throwing a block on dB. That's just like, yeah,
he's our quarterback, Like we're gonna keep We're gonna keep
him clean. But also if if it's needed, he's gonna
(01:22:16):
go down and throw a block down field. Like it's
just that's what Bisen football is.
Speaker 5 (01:22:20):
Forget about it. If you want to be a wide receiver,
you gotta be able to block. You want to be
a quarterback, yeah, you got to be able to throw.
Speaker 2 (01:22:25):
If you want to get on the field as a
wide receiver, you've better block because if you don't, you
ain't getting on the feet.
Speaker 5 (01:22:29):
And then you see your quarterback is downfield thirty forty
yards making block.
Speaker 2 (01:22:33):
Absolutely. You have a couple of text messages here quick
as well as from Paul and avon South Dakota. A
great game, but need to question a col Peyton quarterback
run with a twenty eight point lead and ten minute
left in the game. He came out the next place.
Maybe they realized the error in their ways warns up
from Paul and avon South Dakota. Sometithing that we talked about.
You want to keep cool healthy. I mean the blocking
(01:22:53):
is also great, right, but make sure you keep yourself healthy.
To me, that guy the rest of the season, I do.
Speaker 3 (01:22:58):
Think, uh I remember to play correctly. It was like
a naked bootleg where he had to throw.
Speaker 4 (01:23:03):
Every's like, throw it away, throw it away. I'm like,
guys are up by thirty points. There's nine minutes off
in the game. Like I guarantee in Cole's mind, He's like,
you know, I could throw this away and it'll be
second and ten go down. Let's run run another forty
seconds off the clock pulled them out after that play.
So that was one thing that I'm like, you know,
if you're watching, like, yes, in a tight game, obviously
(01:23:25):
you throw that away in that situation. If he throws
it away as a bad play. No, but just game
time situation. Let's just keep the clock run in. I
think did we score on the next play or two
plays later?
Speaker 2 (01:23:35):
I think it was two plays Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:23:37):
So I but at that time, just keep the clock
run and go down, don't get take a big hit.
Speaker 5 (01:23:41):
And we we how lucky are we as boys and
fans and former player to talk about when do you
put your backups in?
Speaker 3 (01:23:49):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (01:23:49):
Like every week we gotta put the back up. Every
week we're talking about when the backup's gonna come in.
It's just an embarrassment of how good this team has
been so far this year, and these last two weeks
against very good, good opponents, good opponents exactly.
Speaker 2 (01:24:05):
NDSU now six and oh Nathan Hays has played five
for the six games, yes, quarterback.
Speaker 5 (01:24:11):
It reminds me of the program. Are you guys familiar
with the movie where the guy's like, well, maybe I'll
engineer a couple of big blowouts and we'll get you
in the backups. Like, yeah, thanks, man, I love that.
Speaker 15 (01:24:20):
You know.
Speaker 5 (01:24:20):
It's like, hey, Nathan's like, hey, you know, if you
could get us up by thirty and the fourth quarter,
get me some and they're throwing the ball that Nathan's
still out there.
Speaker 2 (01:24:29):
By the way, he's the next week. I about quarterback Leneage,
he's the next one.
Speaker 3 (01:24:32):
He'll be just fine.
Speaker 2 (01:24:33):
He'll be up. He'll be up next year as well.
Another one here from our good friend Dave in my
not who texted in early. Just getting to it now, Dave,
So hopefully you're still listening. We appreciate you out there.
I says, if you're going to beat the Bias and
you better jump on them early. Who is going to
a whole call in this offense under thirty? Andy, you
and Sam?
Speaker 20 (01:24:50):
Are?
Speaker 2 (01:24:51):
Are you and Sam ready to take the under on
Code Green scoring defense? Yet he sends in his over
unders every week and me and Sam have been a
little bit like low of a line. I gotta take
the over. I think I took the under this week.
I don't think I took the under actually, Dave. But yeah,
the Bison, who's gonna beat them, who's gonna hold them
under thirty? I don't know the way this offense is
clicking right now.
Speaker 5 (01:25:11):
I kind of go the other way against Ohio State.
Maybe maybe maybe they would maybe we would have to
think about it. Yeah, I go the other way though
that I had said earlier. I think the teams have
jumped on Nbasu in the first half in these last
two games.
Speaker 2 (01:25:25):
Yeah, the two games, Illinois was up nine to seven exactly,
so then Illinois was up ten, ten to seven.
Speaker 3 (01:25:33):
Ten.
Speaker 5 (01:25:33):
There's nobody there is I don't care, bar none, SDSU, anybody.
There is nobody that's going to be up probably double
digits on the Bison going into half. What you want
to do if you are those teams is let's keep
it close at the half and then see where it's at.
So and I think teams have jumped on NDASU with
the best they can to jump on them. But NDASU
(01:25:53):
in the second half, especially these last two weeks, have
just been shown that you have to have.
Speaker 2 (01:25:57):
Their SATs that you're gonna beat NAC. You have to
have staying in a game. You can't just be great
early because they're gonna outlast year a little bit. And
then I think there's two things you're talking about the
turnovers today for Southern Illinois. If you're gonna beat the Bison,
you have to play a perfect game. That's the pressure
that the pressure this.
Speaker 5 (01:26:11):
Offense miss never gonna get you there.
Speaker 2 (01:26:14):
They're putting this pressure on opposing teams. You have to
play perfect in order to beat us. And on top
of you playing perfect, we probably have to shoot ourselves
on the foot a little bit, whether it be with
miss tackles like we talked about already. Maybe some penalties
have popped up through different games this year, some costantly
maybe you know, procedural penalty type of stuff, or if
there ever is a turnover, like you look perfect and
we have to some one not play well. That's what
(01:26:35):
it kind of feels like right now.
Speaker 3 (01:26:36):
It's a good place.
Speaker 2 (01:26:37):
Now, we have a long way to go. It's not
gonna add of ourselves. Got and the two sds hug
very tough places to play, but it does feel like
NDSU is in a pretty good spot right now. One
more than we'll take a break here from a message
here says who decide review for targeting. It looked like
h Southern Illinois guy targeted more than Indius Hues did. Obviously,
Darius Gibbons got called for targeting. There is a appeal process,
(01:27:00):
so we'll see there'll be an appeal. We'll see if
the targeting holds up real time, it wasn't called then
they someone from above shoots it down and says, hey,
we got to review that. There's helmet to helmet contact. Immediately.
When there's helmet to helmet, they will immediately institute a review.
Sometimes it's called targeting, sometimes it's not. But this one was.
But the letter of the law probably was targeting. There's
contact helmet to helmet with the crown of the helmet.
(01:27:22):
I do agree. Southern Illinois running back kind of lowered
his helmet to So what do you want Darius Gibbs
to do?
Speaker 3 (01:27:27):
They the offensive players, they don't. We don't care what happened.
Speaker 5 (01:27:31):
This guy got another defensive player running.
Speaker 4 (01:27:35):
A running back can come down, you know, running, and
then he'll lower his helmet and just hit me right
in the head. And that's fine. But the second I
do it, you know, I'm getting ejected and can't play
in the first half.
Speaker 5 (01:27:43):
In the history of football, how many targetings have been
called by an offensive player?
Speaker 2 (01:27:48):
Very few happened a couple of times in the letter
of the lot.
Speaker 4 (01:27:53):
If an offensive player lowers his helmet and creates contact
with the defensive player, that is, targeting just never gets called.
Speaker 3 (01:27:58):
Because we all want to point some we want ratings
and all that stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:28:02):
Yeah, open up a vane, ton't you? This guy angry
pads back up.
Speaker 4 (01:28:07):
But how it happens is there's a ref up in
the press box that is in charge of all the reviews,
and if he sees it, he just signals down.
Speaker 5 (01:28:13):
And are they watching the same thing that we see
as far as like the replay a lot quicker?
Speaker 2 (01:28:18):
Yeah, yeah, okay, different camera angles. So there you go
to answer to your question. Right there, we got a
few more segments left. Let's take a break. We'll come

This will be a thirty eight yard field goal for Eliosic.
Paul on the left, Hash Bowers to snap bigger to
the whole low snap and the spot kick is up
and the kick is good. Eliosic nots honed the thirty
eight yard field goal and the Bison m not in
the game. Up again, we're all square. We're at ten
(01:33:00):
with six twelve remaining in the first half. The last
two weeks, NDSU has missed an extra point. They had
missed a field goal last week against Illinois State. Wanted
a clean operation there, a clean operation there this week
Eli Oasik makes that field goal good and everywhere else,
and I think good on special teams for the majority
as well. Good work there. What issue gets the win?
Speaker 3 (01:33:20):
What did Phil great about that?
Speaker 2 (01:33:22):
I think he uh. I think it was a B
B plus that's like in some of the fair catch
then yeah, yeah, basically the curve, the curve, the Phil
Hanson curd. I think another quick look here back with

I go scoreboard here quickly, let's go to the Big Sky.
Montana was down nine nothing against cal Poly at half
in Missoula, and then they rattled off twenty eight points
on answer. They win twenty eight to nine over cal Poly.
Montana State over Idaho State forty eight fourteen. You see
(01:34:06):
Davis h they got a big game here against Northern Arizona.
They're leading in this one seventeen fourteen with about four
minutes to go there in quarter number three, make it
ten minutes ago. In quarter number three, you see Davis
at home, up by three on Northern Arizona. Any thoughts
on the big sky so far, what we're seeing.
Speaker 5 (01:34:24):
If you're outside of Montana, do not apply.
Speaker 2 (01:34:29):
Gets the Sorry samis we get to five and one
record wise, that's a pretty good record. But yeah, I
mean we all know this right, it's it's it's NDS USDCU, Montana,
Montana State. But it feels like right until somebody goes
into one of those places and beats them.
Speaker 3 (01:34:42):
And Tarleton did they win today? Keep this team down
in Texas.
Speaker 5 (01:34:47):
That's Ablen Christian Tarleton Alien Christian one today right, They're
they're kind of the Aveland Christian beat.
Speaker 2 (01:34:53):
West Georgia thirty to thirteen. Tarleton State is playing right
now at Utah Tech. Ten minutes ago on the second
quarter they are up thirteen to ten and with the football.
Speaker 5 (01:35:02):
Utah text, Sam, yes, you just throw the record windows well, I.
Speaker 2 (01:35:07):
Actually just drove by Utah Tech a couple of weeks
ago when I was on my trip Saint George, Utah.
Gorgeous place. It's a nice looking stadium, beautiful place, but yeah,
not known for their football. I would say Tarleton State
is their own forty six first and ten with the
football up thirteen to ten with ten minutes to go
in the first half.
Speaker 4 (01:35:23):
There, let's get an NBSU Charlton State, Frisco game or
Nashville game.
Speaker 3 (01:35:29):
It could just be like Montana State in twenty twenty one.
Speaker 19 (01:35:31):
We can just.
Speaker 3 (01:35:33):
Be partying at halftime.
Speaker 5 (01:35:34):
Absolute house.
Speaker 2 (01:35:36):
Most teams I think we faced in Nashville could be
that way as well. Let's go to the rest of
the fbs here quickly. A couple of them that are
some top ten matchups. I guess you could say that
we had this week, or at least top twenty five matchups.
First off, Number one, Ohio State beats Illinois thirty four
to sixteen. For a long time there, Illinois had not
scored a touchdown, didn't score a touchdown in the first half.
(01:35:56):
They finally scored one there in quarter Number three. Dominate
win for a house that will skip past that one.
Here's one that I think has raised some eyebrows across
the country. Number seven Indiana. The Hoosiers go into number
three Oregon out in Eugene on the road, Watson Stadium,
and they win thirty to twenty. And I don't believe
they ever trailed in this game. A really impressive effort.
(01:36:20):
They were great last year. Cool story. They're backing it
up this year. India is gonna be a top five
team and they might be a football school, folks.
Speaker 4 (01:36:27):
That's a great win. Sign he's a good coach. I
don't he never beat the Bison, but he's at Google it.
It makes it better google it. He couldn't, he couldn't
beat us, but he actually he's a good football coach
and puta Williams, one of our old defensive end coaches,
coaching the D line at Indiana.
Speaker 3 (01:36:40):
So happy for the Hoosiers.
Speaker 5 (01:36:43):
That was That was one that I mean, just on paper,
You're like, how do how would Oregon lose this game?
Speaker 2 (01:36:49):
Right?
Speaker 5 (01:36:50):
Huge win in Penn State, which now is diminished because
Penn State's falling off the map. But yeah, at the
same time, like, how did it Outston Stadium? How do
you lose to a team you are a seven and
a half point. It's just good for them. But I
don't know, Indiana, it just it feels fraudulent to me.
I don't know why, it just does.
Speaker 2 (01:37:09):
How about this one Alabama number eight in the country.
They win twenty seven to twenty four at missoo good
effort back and forth ty ty Simpson twenty three of
thirty one, two hundred yards, three touchdowns for Alabama at
the quarterback spot. They win by three on the road
in SEC play against a very good Tigers squad. Is
Alabama back? Yeah? Did they ever leave their back? What's
(01:37:29):
what's happening?
Speaker 3 (01:37:30):
The loss against Forest States getting worse and worse.
Speaker 2 (01:37:32):
Because for Florida today, a thirty four to thirty one
against pitt at.
Speaker 4 (01:37:36):
Home, just to hick up on their Alabama was good.
I think ty Simpson might be Heisman candidate now, Yeah, potentially.
I don't know who else in the FPS is kind
of doing that right now.
Speaker 5 (01:37:47):
Quarterback out of Oklahoma today and they got they got
boat raced to.
Speaker 2 (01:37:54):
The Texas wins the Red River rivalry twenty three to six.
Dominant defensive ever give up two field goals. It's a
weird year. The is it does feel kind of wide open.
I agree with you on Tysons maybe being a candid
for the Heinman I Thatt, Dante more until today maybe
Indiana and look at their quarterback Mendoza. I mean two
(01:38:16):
fifteen a touchdown, twenty of thirty one today on the
road in Big Ten play. And then you mentioned one
other one that we have to bring up today as well. Chris,
you already mentioned it's go to the Big Ten today.
Penn State. A couple of weeks ago, they hosted Oregon.
They were leave top five, ranked right around there. Lost
that one. Then they went to UCLA, who was winless,
lost that game last week. That one shocked us. We thought, okay,
(01:38:37):
they'll get back on the mat here this week at home,
gotta win it there. Happy Valley not so happy. They
lose twenty two to twenty one at home against Northwestern.
Former Bison David Brown the head coach of Northwestern, and
like nobody loses in Northwestern at home, they asto.
Speaker 3 (01:38:54):
Northwestern with one hundred and eight thousand people in the stands.
I think loves the attendants. Penn State, You're college well,
playoff hopes are done.
Speaker 2 (01:39:02):
Three and three, Get ready for next and three.
Speaker 5 (01:39:05):
Franklin's over seat was definitely who turned on the heaters? Yeah,
my asses getting awful hot, and these seats doesn't have the.
Speaker 2 (01:39:15):
Seat heaters, but it was pretty pretty warm. I'd say
it's gonna knock over this week.
Speaker 5 (01:39:19):
I had said earlier to Jacob, like yeah, the knock
on Franklin was he couldn't win the big game. Now
it's turning out he can't win the game.
Speaker 2 (01:39:27):
Yeah. Three, it's good, but one of their offices at
least aging well. U c l A went again today
thirty eight thirteen on the road at Michigan State. So
UCLA is now back to back wins. So weapons of
UCLA runs the table to get in.
Speaker 5 (01:39:40):
It's crazy to look at the new Heuzel kid who's coaching,
and how much he looks like his dad when he
was like for us olds, that's like, oh, that's so
cool to see that this guy's you know, Sun is
now making a name for himself out in u c
l A. Well, obviously there's plenty of talent at UCLA
and he just hadn't figured it out until last couple
of weeks.

your host Andy Rickoff.
Speaker 2 (01:45:06):
Williams and the shotgun takes the snap screens are right.

he has tackled by Duffy. Ball came out in the

(01:45:28):
right there want to be in three turnovers forced by
Code Green on the day as they win at forty
five seventeen over Southern Illinois. They get the win and
proved to six and oh. Southern Illinois with the lost
their first loss in FCS play. They went on be
four and two, one of those losses obviously gonna ENDSU,
the other one to Purdue in non conference play. Final
(01:45:49):
thoughts here from this game fellas iss NDSU wins it
dominant fashion, a little close in the first half, but
big plays at the end of the first half and
beginning on the second half to pull away.
Speaker 4 (01:45:57):
Well, we talked about Southern on light only their loss
being to Purdue being the Gophers right now, that's true.
I use property s, I use a good football team.
Speaker 2 (01:46:08):
DS you better than Minnesota.
Speaker 5 (01:46:10):
Yes, you played, you played, question, you answered it. You
played ten times. I take NDSU probably four and a
half out of those ten times.
Speaker 3 (01:46:18):
Well I'll take it more. Yeah, I don't like the Gophers.
Speaker 4 (01:46:22):
But anyways, as I used good football team, was not
expecting it to be this much of a blow And
I think I said that two weeks ago as well.
Speaker 3 (01:46:30):
This NDSU team change your expectation.
Speaker 4 (01:46:33):
I think this NDSU team really does have a chance
to be special. You know, we don't need to get
into the you know, ranking them in the last you
know ten NDSU like the decade we've had, like is
this number, like we don't need to do that yet.
This is a team that anything short than a national
championship in Frisco is going to be a massive disappointment.
Speaker 2 (01:46:49):
Yeah, that's just a matter of expectations of the NDU.
That's the team that it has been set and will
continue to be that way.
Speaker 5 (01:46:56):
Chris, I would think my final thought is kind of
starting worry or anyway I start is that now at
six and OHO and playing the last couple of teams
who are both top ten in the nation, you beat
them by combined of around fifty points ish, Right, it's
getting that feeling that the only team that's gonna beat
NDYSU is NDSU. It's gonna be one of those games
(01:47:17):
where Brock Jensen against Indiana State throws three picks, one
of them gets returned for a pick six. Things get
real weird and you out of your control almost. I
think that INDIASU is kind of where they're at right
now at the half point of the season. They look
like that team that only they are going to beat themselves.
Somebody else has to be absolutely perfect and get lucky
(01:47:37):
to beat them bar none.
Speaker 2 (01:47:40):
Team's gonna play perfect in the India make mistakes. That
feels like right now.
Speaker 5 (01:47:44):
And a nice crowd today too, a nice, non big
team that you're used to cheering for. With over eighteen
thousand today, that's awesome.
Speaker 2 (01:47:52):
Good number. I thought the car was quiet, well, I thought,
but early in the game, like didn't get loud in
that first drive for something, just kind of drove down
their whole home. There wasn't much yellowing in the crowd.
We need to get a little louder. We need to
be an impact every play, not just third downs. Let's
impact second I impact every play if you can. But yeah,
big crowd, love the numbers we're getting out there. Just
(01:48:13):
be a little bit more vocal if we can. My
final thoughts I guess would be with this offense and
defense right now, I don't know which one is playing better.
It's a fun discussion which side of the ball is
actually playing better right now because they're both absolutely elite
right now across the FCS. When you look at the
numbers and then you look at NDSU, I think you're
just seeing them continue to improve each and every week.
(01:48:35):
And somehow I don't think they can improve, but they
seem tend to get a little bit better now. The
one thing to clean up from today probably some misstackles
a little bit, but part of that Southern Illinois being
a good football team. This team's gonna be really, really
tough to beat. It's gonna be fun to watch them
go the rest of the season. You mentioned that weird
brock Gensen game.
Speaker 5 (01:48:53):
I'll never forget that game.
Speaker 2 (01:48:54):
It's in taror Hate at Indiana State. Weird things happen
in Tara Dice. We can know that that is the
next one up here for NDSU. They will take on
the Sickamoomers next week out in Tara Haute, Indiana, and
that game at one pm Eastern time, and then the
week after that is at SDSU to be determined. Still
in the time of that one, we'll find out probably
ten days out from the game. So middle of this
(01:49:15):
upcoming week will probably know the time for that game
against SDSU. The next two weeks, both on the road,
some tough road test. We fun to see this team
go be road warriors for a couple of weeks.
Speaker 4 (01:49:24):
Jake, Yeah, and then go take care of business on
the road this week, and then you know, Mark for
America will find out that kickoff time and yes in South.
Speaker 3 (01:49:31):
Dakota, and we'll go down to Florida and we need
to go infiltrate that.
Speaker 4 (01:49:34):
Stadium and you'll make it as small as a home
field advantage as we can for South Coast state.
Speaker 2 (01:49:40):
And then I also we should not go off the
year today without mentioning an unfortunate injury. Today, Finn Diggo's
going down with an injury. It sounds like a pretty
serious one to his foot. We'll find out more details,
I'm sure from Tim Poulasek on Tuesday. Gotta go to
the MRI get some imaging done on it. Hopefully fingers
crossed for some good news for Finn because he's a
good dude. He's a good player, and he's a senior.
You hate for his seniors to lose that last year
(01:50:00):
of kind of eligibility. So hoping for the best love, Yeah, if.
Speaker 5 (01:50:03):
You could hope for like, you know, a broken something
like hard is always better than soft tissue issues, right,
So if you're like, okay, well in middle of December,
maybe like could we get them back towards the end
of the year, meet.
Speaker 2 (01:50:14):
Something where he's got hope to get back, would be like, yeah,
my best hope for him. Yeah, but looked like a
pretty serious one. He's hurt. Carson Williams a little hurt.
So also in that tight end room again us some
young guys that are not to step up. Reese Cassel
was great today, big time catch and I'm have a
great throw by Cole Payton on that one. Then you
think about kin zen Zen, Luko Kats and the other
young guys Jet Zabel in that room. Some other young
(01:50:34):
tight ends will have to step up. With the injury
to Finn DICKLMS will find out more about him later
on this upcoming week. One more shoutout as well for
