Speaker 7 (02:30):
Second and three at the Southern Illinois nine I formation
with Miller under center, Brown the tailback Cam Gibbs, the
Brown off left tackle Marty in the five three two
one touchdown. There we go. That could be the Cherry
on top nine yard touchdown run Marty Brown into the
end zone to cap off the methodical march for the Bison.

(02:53):
They've stretched the lead the three scores and they find
another getaway car twenty three to three, four nights ago
here in Carbondale, and the Cherry on Top gets the
Bison that getaway car out of Carbondale and two. Another
victory six in a row for the Herd, undefeated in
Missouri Valley Conference play as they win at twenty four

(03:16):
to three over Southern Illinois. Welcome on in to Bison
Hotline here with you live from Applebee's just north of
the Fargo Dome. On the north side of town. Come
out and celebrate with us as the Bison get another win,
this one in conference and on the road. A little
bit sleepy, a little bit less dramatic than maybe we thought,
but at the end it's a win for NDSU and

(03:37):
a dominant one by three scores. Andy rickonf here with
you again, live at Applebee's just north of the Dome.
Come over here in the bar area. You can sign

(04:21):
to have you, sir. How does it feeling to be
sitting on this side of the microphone and co hosting
your first Bison hotline.

Speaker 8 (04:28):
Well, hey, Andy, I'm happy to be here. It is
a little weird. I'm not gonna lie to you. I
got producers in my year now, you know, telling me
what to do, what to say if I'm screwing up
or something like that. I would, but I will say
I think i'd consider myself a former Bison.

Speaker 7 (04:39):
What's schools to pay for it? Yeah?

Speaker 8 (04:42):
I was up at a in the y, you know,
putting up shots. I banked in a couple of threes
at you know, the performance center there. So happy to
be here, three and on in the valley. Not gonna
apologize for it.

Speaker 7 (04:53):
Innermurals Counts Counts absolutely count Yeah, former Bison there and
Ian Longton, you know on Byson hot we all were
at some point to those who can't play coach and
those who can't do either, talk about it on the radio.
Twenty four to three, NDSU gets the win over Southern Illinois.
As I mentioned already, maybe not that the same game
we were thinking were when we were heading into this one.

(05:14):
I know I predicted something in the fifties for NDSU.
I know a lot of people were thinking the offense
was in a two season I really did. This offense
has been rolling, have been putting up forty points a game,
and this was a Sluki team coming into the week
that had been giving up forty points consistently in valley play.
That's what we were kind of expecting. It just wasn't quite
that crisp show on offense. But we mentioned this throughout

(05:35):
the season and earlier in the year in the offense
was having great games and the Bison were kind of
winning shootouts. We said, there's gonna be a game where
the offense maybe doesn't quite perform up to the same level,
but the defense will pick them up a little bit.
Don't know if you have to say that the defense
picked up the offense. Twenty four points is still a
decent amount, but the defense sure was pretty good today.

Speaker 8 (05:52):
Yeah, it doesn't help when your quarterback is on one leg,
you know, I mean maybe one and a half leagues
you can say. Yeah. I did think Cam was a
little uncomfortable and when he didn't get going early on,
the offenses seemed to sputter.

Speaker 7 (06:03):
We had a couple three and outs today.

Speaker 8 (06:05):
We kind of wait till the second half to get
Marty really going get into the ball and he went
out with the with the injury as well. He returned
score that touchdown your coming into the show. But it's
good enough, right, It's.

Speaker 7 (06:15):
Still a win.

Speaker 8 (06:16):
It's a road win in the valley that you're now
two to zero on the road in conference play. That's
what Tim Paulasek wants. I don't think it's a case
of we were overlooking this week. I just think you
face a team that I know they're beat up, but
Son Illinois is always gonna be a tough out. So
it's a good win on the road. You don't apologize
for winning by three scores and in conference play and

(06:38):
hopefully just get healthy going into next week's giving it
against STSU.

Speaker 7 (06:42):
Yeah yeah, you said you absolutely never apologize for getting
road wins in conference against the team that was desperate.
I mean, Southern Illinois O win two in the valley
coming in now Owen three. You know they didn't want
to fall to Owen three. They were gonna throw everything
at you, and they absolutely did on offense, a lot
of trick plays, throwing the kitchen sink as as some
would say, everything except maybe the kitchen sink in this
one and the Bison to hold them to just three points.

(07:03):
Had a missed field goal in there as well, but
really nothing that really threatened the ends on the guy.
I got inside the red zone only I think once
all game, and they didn't have a very good day
on offense in general. When you look at just some
of the final numbers Southern Illinois in this game, they
were freshman quarterback Jake Curry goes fifteen to twenty seven
one fifty two, no touchdowns, one interception, fifty six percent

(07:24):
completion percentage, probably a little bit more yards than maybe
we even thought he was going to do, but a
lot of that on swing passes and screen passes. Did
a good job using him. Receiving wise, they didn't really
have a big game from third big game guy keantes
Lewis only three receptions thirty six yards. And then that's
just the rushing numbers. We knew they weren't a great
rushing team coming in, and the Bison did a phenomenal
job in this game, holding them to thirty five yards

(07:46):
on the ground, just one point five per carry, twenty
three attempts thirty five yards, one and a half yards
of carry. That does include six or five sacks on
Jake Curry for end up being I think like negative
twenty yards on the set. Overall, Curry had six rushes
for negative thirteen yards, including those five times being sacked.
But Cole Green was great. The defense really backed it up.

(08:09):
Offense got the early score, took a little while after that.
I thought it was a good, clean, crisp two and
a half minute drill there at the end of the
first half as well, going down scoring before the half,
putting up some more points, giving yourself a little bit
of separation, and then, like you said, they got the
Marty Brown touchdown. They needed. The big storyline though, I
think coming out of this game is going to be
the health of the team. If we have any updates,

(08:31):
we will try and let you know. I agree with
you completely. Cam did not look himself up. There was
late on some throws, the footwork wasn't quite there. You
could tell he was favoring the ankle a little bit.
I don't know about it one leg, but definitely on
one ankle in this game, and he seemed to reaggravate
it during the game as well. Was clearly playing through
a little bit of pain, and he wasn't the only
one by the end of it. Bryce Lance went out

(08:53):
holding his hamstring slash knee at one point. He came
back in and made big contributions in that second half,
but it was early in and quarter three where he
kind of went down and had a limp off the field.
We saw Dylan Hendricks right before the first half was
done on the final play of the first half kind
of goes down, not completely non contact, but it was
basically non contact there with the knee going down holding

(09:14):
It was able to somewhat get up and walk off
under his own power. But even coach paulsk said afterwards,
we're gonna have to look at Dylan Hendrick. You're going
to think get some more information on him. Marty Brown
went off and didn't play much at all in that
second half because he limped off late in the first
half as well. He did come back in, as you said,
got that touchdown we heard coming in to the show tonight.

(09:35):
Jake Rock left for a little while, then he came
back in, but when he came back in, Mason Miller
went out, and so then you were switching the offensive
line a little bit. Jack Lewinsky got in there somewhat.
The freshman and the Nick Kubits goes out as well
with an injury, and he was gone for a considerable
amount of time. So they the Bison r banged up
coming out of this game much more than they were

(09:55):
going in, and that was a huge key because we
know what awaits next week with SDSU will hopefully have
some updates on any injuries. Which one there do you
think is the most concerning, Well, I you gotta go.

Speaker 8 (10:05):
You gotta go with Cam, right, you gotta make sure
Cam is full go going in the next week.

Speaker 7 (10:09):
But besides that, I'd go Dylan.

Speaker 8 (10:12):
He had he had a slower start to the year
and then I think some of us anticipated, But these
last couple of weeks he has been an absolute monster.
I think, Yeah, he had another sack, he had a
couple of sacks last week. He's had a couple of
forest fumbles the last couple of weeks. So we got
to make sure he's healthy. It's unfortunate, like the time
of game, it happens right last play of the first half.
You're you're thinking, Southern Illinois is like going for a
hail Mary, right, So so that that part is an

(10:34):
unfortunate But he did walk off under his own power.
I know he's dealt with some injuries in the past,
but maybe I have a light week. Hopefully we get
him back at some capacity, even if it's not going
to be one hundred percent. I'm glad Marty got back
in there at the end as well, and I know
Bryce went off. It kind of seemed like he was
almost dealing with cramps. I don't know if it was cramps,
but he was just kind of rolling some stuff out
with the trainers because he got back in there. He

(10:55):
had a couple late, you know, three down conversions to
to help keep the chains moving and to milk the
clock out. But overall feeling pretty good. Make sure cams healthy,
make sure Deyling's healthy. I think everyone else is going
to be our right.

Speaker 7 (11:06):
It is good to mention it was a little bit
hotter there, like mid eighties temperature wise, so you could
have some cramps there. It's a little bit hotter than
it's been here in Fargo. You get working a little bit,
work up a sweat, could have some cramps. There's like
grabbing in the spot where you'd think hammy. But if
he did anything to do his hamstring, he wouldn't have
come back in So that's why, Yeah, cramps the possibility there.
Just hope everyone's healthy and good to go for this
next week with it being the battle for the Dakota

Good time for more reaction from today's game. Pure a
gam is your host Andy Rickoff.

Speaker 7 (16:11):
Seven nothing Bison four to thirty one to go, first
quarter something the Illinois first down own twenty yard line.
Jay Curry under pressure and he has knocked down Bison
got him in the backfield. It's a sack and it's
Keenan Wilson along with Toby Anenna who dropped him at
the sixteen loss of four. It'll be second out in fourteen.
One of the five sacks for ANDYSU in this ballgame

(16:34):
is they win at twenty four to three over Southern
Illinois and you look at Keenan Wilson getting a sack
a half sack there, tied up with Toby Anena who
ends up with a total sack in this game. Will
most start half a sack, a sack for Dylan Hendricks
and also sacks for Eli Mostart and Logan Cop from
that linebacker position. I know Logan Cop was named the

(16:55):
player of the game on the corporate side there as
he gets a sack, tackle loss and seven total tackles
to lead the team in this game. But overall, a
really good performance from Code Green. You knew as they
had a true freshman quarterback in there and Eric Curry
the Boneys that were going to be able to get
after that young quarterback again. Andy Rikoff and Ian long

(17:15):
Tim back here with you on bonson game day. Want
your thoughts seven zero one four, seven six, sixteen sixty
What you make of five sacks Code Green, especially that
defensive line. Seems like three straight games now they're getting
in the back for the lot, dude, I love it.

Speaker 8 (17:27):
And Eli Moster has been getting doubled it seems like
every single play, but he's still getting into the backfield.

Speaker 7 (17:32):
Two and a half tackles for Lost.

Speaker 8 (17:33):
Yeah, he's just an absolute monster there. It was a
slower start to the year. They I think they figured
something out in the back end as well. Darius Gibbons,
his third start, I feel like they've him moving back
to free safety is unlocked. Like Sam Young's athletic ability.
I feel like each each and every week, he's got
a couple of tackles on these running backs. Darius Gibbons
himself started starting the game off, flying in on that

(17:55):
first place, setting the tone for Code Green right away.
Keeping them out of the end zone was big. I thought, cured,
you know, for a true freshman making his first start,
I didn't think he looked that awful. Obviously he had
the interception. He's not throwing the ball down field and
anything like that, but tall task for young quarterback. Bison
handled them very well. Good to see Code Green really
turning the corner here. As in the first three games

(18:17):
that conference play.

Speaker 7 (18:17):
Yeah, Curry goes fifteen of twenty seven. Of those fifteen
completions seven eight of them on kind of screen passes
or swing passes or just easy ones in the flat.
Didn't throw the ball down the field a lot, a
lot of the incompletions were well behind, who is well
off target, doesn't throw for a touchdown obviously in this game,
does have that one interception, and like you said, Darius
Gibbins gets the interception on that side. You look at

(18:39):
his final final stat line, he's got two tackles, two
total tackles, has the tackle for loss in there as well,
and an interception with the pass breakup. So yeah, I thought,
you know you have Sam Young, you need another safety.
Is it going to be Darius Gibbons? Is it going
to be Jayalen Crumby We've seen is Ryan Jones going
to re emerge? I've seen it be more Gibbins here,
at least in terms of the starts and then a
little bit of the committee. Crumby does play in this game.

(19:02):
He ends up with one solo tackle overall. Yeah, I
would agree with you Thinkdarius Gibbons playing a little bit
better than comfy, you know, yeah, for sure. And he's
definitely supreme athlete. There's never been an issue with the
athleticism there. He's one of the fastest guys on the team.
It's more so just the mental side of it. I
think playing more is going to help it a lot.
You can't really solve that in practice. You just need
to actually play and experience it, and it get experienced

(19:24):
in certain situations to know what you have to do
when certain pictures come your way, especially at safety, and
I think as the secondary as a whole gets more
experienced throughout that you were going to see them start
to play better and kind of match the play of
the defensive line. Because one thing we said going in
is yes, young quarterback for Southern Illinois, but they have
a great offensive line, and they got their stud left
tackle back today as well in Fenskei, and you look

(19:47):
at over one hundred combined starts and all seniors and
juniors upfront for him. It was a very good, very
talented offensive line, and yet the Pison held them to
thirty five rushing yards and also got five sacks on
the quarterback. Now, some of that is young, inexperience quarterback
and some true freshmen at the running back spot right
now because of injuries for something Illinois. But the end
of the day, the Bison defensive line going against the
offensive line for sel then I thought won that battle

(20:09):
against one of the better lines they're gonna see this year. Yeah,
I agree.

Speaker 8 (20:11):
I agree with you, And to be fair, these first
three weeks, it's not like the Bison have been going
against like these all conference level quarterbacks, right, But you
can only play who's in front of you. It's gonna
be a different test next week against Gronowski. That one's gonna,
I think, gonna tell us a lot about what we're
gonna see going into the final couple games of the
of the regular season. Here as we crossed the halfway point.
But as you said, winning that defensive line battle something

(20:35):
that we talked about in the non con right when
we played Etsu and we just got ripped apart on
the ground game. That is a big step we've taken
just in the last month. I know coach Paul Sack
has mentioned it. That is something that they need to
figure out and figure out quickly because once they start
playing tougher opponents like last week against U and D
and the next week and you still got self Dakota
coming up on your schedule as well. It's a good
step in the right direction. I think going in any game,

(20:56):
I'll take our d line against any offensive line left
in the FCS.

Speaker 7 (21:00):
In Missouri State.

Speaker 8 (21:00):
Don't do the first place vote Missouri State, you got
to always qualify with.

Speaker 7 (21:05):
They delivered preseason first place vote and they man handled
Illinois State today. We'll get to some of the scores
here in a little bit. We're here with you alive
at Appleby's just north of the Fargo Dome. Here for
every game home and away for the herd bids and hotline.
We also have the phone lines open for you seven
to zero, one, four, seven, six, sixteen to sixty, Mark
in America giving us a call. Mark, how you doing

(21:26):
and what do you think of the win? Here for
NDSU I'm.

Speaker 16 (21:29):
Doing goody And he actually hung out in North Alabama
about an hour east of the five Division two National
Championship that location for the Bible.

Speaker 7 (21:39):
Okay, well done.

Speaker 16 (21:42):
Hey headed back home to Tennessee. Uh first off, Ian,
I hope he negotiated that Chris Hanson money for this,
for this work you're doing tonight.

Speaker 8 (21:50):
Well, I'm not as good as looking as Chris, so
I don't know if I get I get those rolatives.
I don't bring the people out that Chris does, just
with his his charm and his good looks.

Speaker 16 (22:00):
Okay, yeah, sure.

Speaker 7 (22:03):
Guy, Mark's not buying it. He's not buying.

Speaker 16 (22:07):
This was a gritty win, a gritty road win, and
I'm good with it. The defense stepped up, which is
what I want to see going in the next week
against who we've got coming up. And the game's over,
which means it's now Bunny eight week. And I'm gonna
leave you with this, the reason why the football field
and Brookings is after her, so the cheerleaders don't graze.

Speaker 7 (22:30):
Okay, well, thank you, Mark, thanks for the call. Appreciate
that seven zero one four seven to six, sixteen sixty.
I figured there'd be some shots at STSU thrown in
here as well on Bizon Hotland, which is totally fine
with all of us. Mark Stotts there, I would agree
gritty win. This was not a crisp or clean win
by any means. You had the early touchdown, didn't score
again until the very end of that first half. You

(22:51):
had some that first drive. Defensively, I don't know what
was happening. There was a false start or an off
sides on defense. Then there was like an illegal substitution
where we're bringing guys on and all of a sudden
we're not allowed to substitute, and they don't slow the
play down at all. Don't know exactly what was happening there,
and then something about discerning signals or something the lighthouse
and chefs passing in the night or anything like that.

(23:12):
Don't know. Just a weird first drive through defensively, but
they get the force, fumble, recover it and get the
ball back there for the offense, that goes on in scores,
but then it did kind of feel just sloppy, like
offense had some offense or pass interference though that was
a very questionable call. Just kind of a sleepy first half.
Their offensively gritty win, but you end up pulling away

(23:33):
and at no point did you ever feel like in danger. No,
especially once you got to fourteen. Once we got that
second score and then the one from Marty really completely
ended it. But even the field goal by Griffin Cross
in the third quarter, you felt like, Okay, seventeen to three,
not really threatened at any point now by Southern Illinois.

Speaker 8 (23:51):
Yeah, just staying in it and stayed focused. The one
thing I will say about the offense is we talked
about it. They scored off turnovers, right, scoring off that
turnover was and then scoring at the end of the
first half.

Speaker 7 (24:01):
That's two weeks in a row.

Speaker 8 (24:02):
Now they've gotten points not and getting kind of a
forward steam going into the second half. When these teams,
you know, they try and double up on possessions. Right,
get that field goal last week against U and D.
You score a big touchdown, kind of not put it away,
but you build a comfortable lead. Maybe keep Cam off
that ankle, and trust your your convoy running backs you have.

(24:22):
I think that's gonna be important. I think I think
overall you can't be too like. That's a cornered animal game.
I like to call them cornered animal games when you
go against a team on the road really needs it, right.
We talked talked about that this USC Penn State game
going on, USC is kind of a cornered animal that
coming out and playing well, so handling their business, handling
a team that gets the postseason like every other year.

(24:45):
So that's a good win. I don't I don't think
you should. You should feel too down about the win,
worry about the injuries. But overall, twenty four twenty fourth three,
you're gonna take it.

Speaker 7 (24:54):
Yeah, you're gonna take that win each and every time
on the road in conference. How about Jake in Morehead
Jake giving us a call. Well on Bison Hotline. Jake,
thanks for the call. What do you think about this
win for the Bison?

Speaker 16 (25:05):
It going guys?

Speaker 17 (25:06):
Obviously I think Carbondale is just a cursed place to
play for the Bison. Obviously you'll take the win. But
one thing I'm a little worried about. Dylan Hendris gets
banged up. We don't know what the what the diagnosis
is there with injury. But what are you guys think
you know about the young d ns. Obviously we got
a big game coming up against South Prost State. What
are your guys' thoughts on you know, guys like obviously

(25:26):
Toby had a good game, hunters Enzen Kelton, mccas and
you know, what are your thoughts on them? Going against
s gsqu will have the best old line we've seen
so far. So ling up and listen.

Speaker 7 (25:34):
Thanks guys, you know, thank you Jake, great call. I
appreciate the phone call. And you look at this he's
he's not completely wrong. I think since the spring season
can say curse placed there in carbon del I have
had some obviously some wins. Another win today just something
that always feels off a little funky out there in
Suluki Stadium. Seluki's kind of a funky looking dog in
my opinion, so funky stadium, funky vibes. I get it.

(25:56):
Maybe that's the thing. But and Yousu, at the end
of the day, you win twenty four to I would agree.
We have to wait and see what we see in
Dylan Hendricks, but it just didn't look great. Like when
you watch the replay, he's rushing. He knows it's gonna
be a hail Mary, so he's kind of staying back,
and then when he engages with the offensive lineman, it
just kind of just didn't fall down and give way,
but you could tell something was wrong, kind of leans down,

(26:16):
grabs the knee right away. Can't speculate on any of it.
We'll wait and see if we hear anything from Tim Poulisik.
But even after the game with Noah Againdorf, Tim just
said we're gonna need some more information basically on we
don't really know anything yet, so we'll find out plenty,
I'm sure on Tuesday. But if Dylan can't go, that
would be a huge loss. I did think that the
young defensive lineman played really well. I'll mention Keenan Wilson

(26:38):
for no specific reason. And then some of the other
defensive lineman did play well. That Toby and Enna with
a couple of half sacks in there gets a full
sack by the end of the game. The young defensive
lineman did play well. They do have some pieces there
for the future. But you're hoping you have your your
dog there. You're basically chief ram on the defensive line.

Speaker 8 (26:56):
Right, Well, he dealing going out changes a lot. But
you know nux to Bomma has had to ha had
a good start to the year. That's that's the guy.
I think they they think he's gonna develop into a
good player. And then guys like the Shaka Rokes. Right,
it's not like we we talked about this as could
be the deepest like position group on the team, the
front seven four reason. So it's not like Dylan going out,

(27:17):
everything's gonna fall apart. Obviously that's a big loss, but
it's just a new opportunity. We talked about it in
the wide receiver room, right, Braylan went down after week one,
Bryce stepped up. You got Chris Harris who scored two
weeks in a row. That's one of my future crop guys.
I had a great day future dayway Yep, Chris scored,
Tromma Brown scored, Marty Brown scored. I got Trent Freeley
always doing his thing, and then my player to watch Barrika.

Speaker 7 (27:38):
He got in the end zone as well. So I
had a good day.

Speaker 8 (27:40):
But back to Jake's question, obviously you worried about it,
but I think those young guys are gonna step up.

Speaker 7 (27:45):
Yeah, they do have some depth there, but it's one
thing to say you have depth and good quality depth,
but nobody is is Dylan Hendrix that is part of
that depth right now. So hoping probably for the positive
news there. Same with you know, Bryce and Marty and
all those guys. Did they get a little bit banged
up again? If we see any thing any of those guys,
we'll try and relay those messages to you as well.
I see a couple of text messages coming in. We'll

(28:06):
get to some of those in our next segment. We'll

Berrika Pinau, obviously a big time player for Endius unit.
If Marty Brown's heard it all, he's going to be
relied on a little bit more. It is also the
first rushing touchdown of this game, but it meant another
rushing touchdown this season, where ndyc was now scored a
rushing touchdown in each game of the year. The ground
game continues to be really good behind this revamped offensive line.

(34:10):
We talk a lot of Marty Brown, but Barrika Pino
doing really well. You had Rika as you're kind of
player to watch. Why we're so keyed in? Yeah, Abareka,
I know you're a Marty Brown fan so well.

Speaker 8 (34:19):
Obviously, Marty just carrying my future crap team. That was
a good job by me and also a good job
by me picking Brika Penu to be my player.

Speaker 7 (34:25):
To watch well.

Speaker 8 (34:26):
I just think they've been giving Marty the ball so
much and as as they should right get him going.
Coach Paulis I talked about all obviosen we're gonna put
a running back on a poster. Marty Brown is that guy.
But it's a long season, right, You're you're at the
halfway point. You got a long way to go. And
Marty's a young guy. You're not worried about him like
wearing down or anything like that. But his first full
season of collegiate play, I think it's okay to spell

(34:47):
him sometimes, and they've been doing it at at an
effective level. And Barrika getting things done in the passing
game as well. I don't think he had a catch
all last season, but he's really became that third down
guy and he's really good in pass protection as well
as so with Cam's injury, Marty, you know, giving him
some like a little bit of a break on his workload.
I thought Rika was gonna be a guy that could

(35:07):
score in this game and have a good game, and
he did so. Thank you for proving me right, Berrika.
I think he's had a really nice year last year.
There is high expectations. I think for Brika obviously local kid,
really good athlete, and he's turned it on this year
and found a nice piece in a prolific Buyson offense.

Speaker 7 (35:22):
And Marty Brown twenty carries again today ninety five yards
and a touchdown. Also Brika eleven carries fifty five yards
and a touchdown. So two rushing touchdowns for NDSU and
over one hundred yards from those two guys right there.
End up with one hundred and sixty three total in
the game. Cold Peyton ads in thirteen TK Marshall Ads
won as well, cam Miller actually finishing with negative one

(35:44):
rushing yards. I think that goes to tell you the
ankle was good enough for him to go out there
by the ankle at one hundred percent, it just wasn't.
It probably got reaggravated a little bit during the game
as well. Gotta get that thing healthy because cam Miller
did not quite look like cam Miller today. Now if
you look at the final stat like, he still looked
like a pretty good day to me. I mean, it's
it's eighteen of twenty four, it's one ninety three, it's

(36:05):
a touchdown, seventy five percent completion of percentage, no interceptions,
it's great. He did do a very good job. That
tells you how good he's been playing. Yeah, that does
just how good he's been playing. That he looked a
little bit off. There were some passes behind intended targets.
He missed a wide open I think was Braylen Henderson
in the end zone that would have been a touchdown
as well. They had to settle for the field goal.
So it just wasn't quite the Cam Miller we have

(36:25):
come to see throughout the year. But it was still
a really, really good quarterback. In general, most teams, I
think just about every team in the country would sign
up for eighteen of twenty four one to ninety three
touchdown and no turnovers from their quarterback just to what
we've seen from Kambler this year.

Speaker 8 (36:40):
Do you think part of it of I know there
is some calls to be like, we got to get
Cam out of there. I like, I disagree with that
because this ankle injury, it would it would have effected
him next week. Anyways, I think part of it is
they want him to go play on it, see how
it feels, and see how he can adjust to it.
So when you do play STSU next week, he's gonna
be ready. He knows kind of what he can try
rust with it. So I thought that was a good

(37:01):
performance with camp from Cam. On that Braylan miss that
you mentioned, that was the first time I really thought, like, kay,
it is it is bugging him because he stopped moving
his feet on that one. So he's got a game
under his belt with it. It doesn't look like he
re aired reaggravated it too much to the point where
he's gonna miss any more practice like he did last
week the first time in his football career. But good
performance from Cam. Yeah, how high do our expectations have

(37:24):
to be? And he has set himself up for where
we're looking at that box store and like, Okay, that's
not the normal Cam Miller that we've seen this year.
But another good performance from number seven.

Speaker 7 (37:32):
Yeah, definitely affected him a little bit. Hopefully get that thing,
get some ice on, and get arrested up. I'd actually
be okay with a missing practice on Monday and Tuesday.
He's practiced enough. I want to make sure he's good
and healthy for the game because you're gonna need him.
NDSU and SDSU coming up here this next week. You
got a couple of text messages in you can text
the program seven to zero one four, seven, six, sixteen
sixty This run from Tadak the Polish Bison. Hello, gentlemen.

(37:55):
Not a good performance by the Bison, but a win
in valley play doesn't come easy. I was surprised our
defense didn't adjust his screenplays by Siu. Was I wrong
defense called? Was it a wrong defense called or a
lack of awareness from our players. I'm concerned about mister
Miller's health. He did not look comfortable nor sharp, as
I believe the coach eliminated the run plays for him.

(38:17):
On to the Bunnies. Go Bison from tay Dak. I
would agree, not an excellent performance by the Bison, but
a win is a win, still a good performance. It's
not like they played a bad game by any means.
They played a good game. I would agree. It did
feel like SIU. The only way they were really moving
the ball was on screens and swing passes and kind
of the not junk offense, but that very short, quick

(38:39):
game type of offense at DSU is a multiple like
third and ten, third and eleven, third and twelves. They
weren't able to get the stop and then they convert
on a third and along and it felt like, how
were they doing this every time on these little screen passes.
Can't we stop it? But at the end of the day,
they'd still get Siu off the field.

Speaker 8 (38:56):
Yeah, yeah, that part's frustrated and giving up third and lungs,
that's something you got to figure out. But Sau came
into the game with the number one receiver yardage wise
in the Missouri Valley, so that that's definitely part of it.
Respecting Kyant Lewis and making sure you don't get beat
deep because he talked with games like that when when
I said don't don't play with your food, right, part
of not playing with your food is not getting beat

(39:17):
on these and on these long plays, and we overall
I thought, I thought avoided that very well and doing
that against a true freshman quarterback. So I see what
he's saying there where it's not like a really inspiring performance,
But me, the defense held him out of the end zone,
so you can't you can't complain too much about it.

Speaker 7 (39:33):
Yeah, I mean, like you said, defense, it held him
out of the end zone into like thirty yards rushing.
It's still a pretty good defensive performance. Whether they adjusted
to those things or not. Part of it too, is,
I know, we go into this game saying, hey, freshman quarterback,
no way he's gonna be good. Well, they signed him
for a recent right, they believe in him. They believe
he's got some talent and some ability there. The other
side of it, too, is that when no one's really

(39:54):
seen him play, they don't really see how are you
going to use them? So now this is the first
film on this guy, on Jake Curry, first film about
how SIU is going to use Jake Curry as well.
And if they don't, you know, do more of them
in the future. Other teams are going to scheme them
up and just say, okay, no more screens, thane of
this stuff. We're gonna eliminate those, you know, quick game plays,
those small yardage plays, and make sure there's small yardages

(40:15):
instead of you know, ten or twelve. NDSU going in
kind of with blinders, not really knowing exactly what was
going to be called or how this game was going
to work, what he was capable of doing. That, you know,
does limit what you can do defensively. You got to
play a little bit more vanilla. Second half. I thought
they were fine. Uh, you did get the benefit of
the missed fuel goal, I guess. But even with that,
like you said, they hold them out of the end zone.
And that's a pretty good performance. When you're on the road,

(40:37):
cornered animal as you said to at somebody else's house
on their homecoming, you know they want to score. And
they threw the kitchen sink at NDSUE everything you could
end a rounds reverses they were gonna do, like a
half back pass that looked like at one point too.
They were trying some different plays. NDSU snipped a few out,
a few of them, you know, their trick plays for
a reason. It's hard to scheme up for them. So

(40:57):
a few of them got NDSU, but they also stopped
a couple of them throughout the game. Now the text
comes in here from a seven oh one number says,
how do we match up with SDSU compared to last year?
Have we improved enough on the defensive line our strengths
versus their weaknesses and vice versa. How do we get
into that? In the next break, we'll take another one
here in at Applebee's on Bison Hotline. We'll come back

(41:19):
and preview that game for you a little bit. No,
everyone wants to look ahead to next week. And now
that we're done with that, SUA speaking officially, line ahead
to the next week to SDSU. We'll preview that game
and that matchup for you when we come back on
Bison Hotline.

defensive tackle. Very rare that you see a d tackle
second on the team in tackles in a game. Usually
he's the guy eating up blocks and other people getting
tackles because of that. By Eli Monastart second on the
team with six tackles in this game, three solo tackles,

(46:43):
a sack, and two and a half tackles for loss.
I think the guy just likes playing in the state
of Illinois, because he had two sacks as well at
the Illinois State and Normal Illinois and today in Carbondale
certainly had another really good game.

Speaker 12 (46:55):
Well.

Speaker 8 (46:56):
It's especially impressive considering that the Suluki's kind of abandoned
the run game. Theydn't even try and get the run
game going, and he's still second on the team in tackles.
That's just credit to Eli and the whole d line,
you know, not quitting on plays in those screen in
those screenplays, using their speed and athleticism, getting getting to
the edge there and and stuff like that. When that happens,
that's when you get you know, those fumble recoveries, that's
when you get those force fumbles when you're coming in there.

(47:17):
So El has been playing great these last couple of weeks.
He's been awesome in his whole career for the Bison,
And going to the next week against STSU, stopping the
run game is going to be one of the big
keys going into that one because they kind of ripped
us apart last year. So big game from Eli. Nice
to see him playing well.

Speaker 7 (47:33):
Hey, Eli, mostart again our dri player of the game.
Six tackles a sack, two and a half tackles for loss.
A number of guys defensively having really good games, which
also mentioned Logan cop leads the team in tackles with
seven of them today three solo tackles. He also had
a sack in this game. How about Aca Anthony Shademi
Alfaro five total tackles in this one, four of them

(47:54):
solo tackles. You need your cornerbacks to make tackles in space.
He did today, also a tackle full lot for loss.
Sam Young three tackles, he had that force fumble on
the opening drive defensively where everything was kind of going
against NDSU some weird things, some bad balances, bad breaks.
Sam Young comes in there, punches the ball out, forces
a fumble. Great work by Sam. Marcus Gully a couple

(48:15):
of tackles once again thought Marcus Sheppard played well. Enoxy
Bamana a couple of tackles, and then Darius Gibbons. We
already mentioned two tackles, one of them solo, had a
tackle for loss and an interception in this one. I
got good work as well by Darius Gibbons. Are a
number of guys defensively having some breakout games, which is
good because the defense is gonna have to play really
well next week against the Jacks.

Speaker 8 (48:35):
I feel like coach Olsen and the coaching staff have
made a point where we gotta be more willing tacklers.
We got to we gotta be more sure tacklers. I
think we've seen that at the start of the Missouri
Valley I got to keep that going. Obviously after this,
after the start of the year and last year that
was a big question rate, like what's going on with
all these mistackles, And I think they've cleaned that up
the last couple weeks. Obviously, got to keep it going.
But we're on the right track. Trajectory is definitely going up.

Speaker 7 (48:58):
Yeah, I think you want to be more sure tacklers,
And for that to me, it just means be a
more confident tackler, like going there and have confidence going
to make the tackle. That comes with experience and just
reps of doing it over and over again. But you
have to be more confident, go in there without fear
and just get a tackle. Sometimes it means a big hit,
and I think NDA two has had more of those
big hits, those hard hits, those physical ones. You can

(49:19):
tell they're just playing fast, playing without really thinking too much,
and you can sense that from some of the guys defensively.
I think Logan cop played that way today. Aca. I
like seeing your cornerbacks making tackles him, Marcus Sheppard near
the top, Jaylen Duffy again a couple of tackles today.
You can see that secondary is starting to get a
little bit more cohesion to it. Some guys playing more,
playing more consistently. I think that's definitely been a good

(49:41):
sign for NDSU in that defensive side. We know what
the offense will give you more most weeks. This week
maybe not quite the offensive performance we've seen for the Bison,
but still plenty good enough. With twenty four points, you
feel like if you score twenty four you should win
most games, especially with the way this Code Green defense
is playing so far. Okay, I did promise the folks
preview NDSU SDSU a little bit. We had the text

(50:03):
in here on Bison Hotline. You can text us seven
zero one four seven six sixteen sixty. How do they
match up with the Jacks compared to last year? Well,
the answer, the short answer is better. They match up
better with SDSU. Everybody does. Because STSU was loaded last
year they had a really really good team, and some
of those guys left, and so you're gonna match up
better with them this year. They lose Greenfield, McCormick, some

(50:25):
of those offensive linemen that had been made mainstay's form
on the offensive line. They lose the Yankees. They still
have Griffin Wilde, who is a good young freshman receiver
a year ago. Now he's a sophomore. He is kind
of their go to guy. They're struggling to find receivers
outside of him a little bit, I would say, But
they still have the Johnson's at running back. They don't
have you know, Isaiah Davis or You're strong of those guys.

(50:46):
But Amar Johnson has been a thorn in the Bison
side throughout his career. They have some good running backs.
They still have a good offensive line. Defense is doing
just fine there. I'd say their defense is definitely ahead
of their offense. But Gronowski struggling a little bit. Overall,
INDIAC is gonna match up better with SDSU. Is there
in area you've kind of got your eyes on for
that game.

Speaker 8 (51:05):
I do, And I think I'm gonna do the obvious
direction and say Cam can't like Cam has done everything
here at NDSU, right, He's won a national championship, he's
won playoff games, he won playoff games on the road.
But the one thing he has not done is beat
SDSU yet. And he's He's had a couple of games
against them where you think he's playing well, but he's
turned the ball over and that's one thing he has
not done this year, and that's gonna be key going

(51:25):
to the next week. I think last year he had
a couple of interceptions in that game. Now part of
that too is you get down and you got to
be aggressive and you got to put the ball in
the air.

Speaker 7 (51:33):
But so far this.

Speaker 8 (51:34):
Year, he's building a great rapport with with Bryce, with
Chris Harris's last couple of weeks and with Braylan, and
we hopefully get Rajah going next year as well. But
I think it's it's gonna come down to Cam and
can he have his best performance so far against the
Bunnies And that's really where my eyes are going to go.

Speaker 7 (51:50):
Yeah, quarterback position is always going to be a key one.
Mark Gronowski, when you look at his stats for the year,
he hasn't been as crisp this year as he has
been in the last couple of years. That's to be expected. Again,
you'll lose in probably his top two targets there in
the Yankee Twins at receiver. You lose the experience up front.
They still have a good offensive line, they got plenty
of pieces back, but just you have five guys that

(52:12):
have played so much together, there's continuity on the offensive
line and with a quarterback, so he's going to have
a little bit of a learning curve there. You look
at his numbers so far this year. This is excluding
what they have done today. They got to win at
home against Youngstown State, But before this week, Gronowski was
eighty three of one thirty four for five with five
interceptions and nine touchdowns and just under one thousand yards,

(52:34):
So that is not Obviously cam Miller hasn't thrown an
interception this year. Cam has been more dynamic in the
passing game. Gronowski only has two rushing touchdowns and eighty
two yards on the ground. Cam has been way more
dynamic in the ground game the quarterback run game as well.
So it's no doubt Cam's playing better than Gronowski right now.
But to your point, it all comes down to how
do you play in this game, and for Cam not

(52:55):
having beaten SDSU, it's absolutely gonna be something on his
resume he wants to get before he is done, and
this is potentially the final opportunity for it. We don't know, obviously,
playoffs could happen again, but this one's going to be
a huge game. It's inside the dome. The last time
I was here in Fargo, the Bison were up big,
up three scores at half and weren't able actually two
scores at half, weren't able to go up three scores

(53:17):
at a late interception at the end of the first half,
and then didn't score on the second half, and SDSU
came back and stole that game inside the Fargo Dome.
They've won the last five. You got to find a
way to get back on the right side of that
rivalry and get in the driver's seat in the valley.
If you win this game next week, the winner of
that one is going to have a very good chance
of winning the valley. I think it will come down

(53:37):
to the winner of next week's game and USD kind
of a three horse race right now, NDSU, SDSU, and
South Dakota. You win this one at home against SDSU,
you play USD at the very end of the season
down in Vermilion. We'll see how they do with the
Jacks as well. But this game is going to go
a long ways to deciding who is the automatic bid
out of the valley and potentially a top two seed. Well,

(53:59):
you mentioned Dandy.

Speaker 8 (54:00):
Well, Gronowski's got all all these new looks around him,
like he's got a new offensive line.

Speaker 12 (54:04):
Right.

Speaker 8 (54:04):
He lost the Yankee Twins, right, and so did Cam.
Cam lost that as well. So I think it's just
speaks to how well he's played. Where last year Cam
was awesome, right, but he's taken that next step that
I don't know, like a lot of people thought he
had in him, and he has done that. Where Grenowski,
on the other hand, you meant he's he turned the
ball where five times this year? Yeah, that's not something
Cam has done. He only I just looked gnow going

(54:26):
through the ball thirteen times today. Obviously didn't need to
put in the air too much against the Penguins. He
won the game by fifty points. But he's always gonna
be game, you know. He wants to end his career
never losing to INDISU as well, So that's gonna be
something to watch. But back in the dome is gonna
feel really good. I'm just really hyped to next week.
Hopefully by this time next week, well we got what
time is there right now? Six thirty maybe kicking off by.

Speaker 7 (54:48):
This time right about now, potentially, Yeah, he's gonna be
a sellout inside the dome. If you haven't heard already,
it's either six thirty or seven o'clock next week. NDSU
SDSU will find out the exact time, probably late tonight.
Kind of depends on some other games that are going
on right now, how those games finish up, what are
the records of certain teams, how sexy basically is the matchup.
NDSU did everything they needed to do, same with STSU.

(55:10):
We needed to win. STSU needed to win, and if
that happens, I think there's a better chance than not.
That's gonna be ESPN two, and I would think it's
seven pm then as well as what you want, and
that's what you would want. I think too. I think
seven pm, and you want it on ESPN two, no
matter what time that would be. If it has to
be six thirty seven, seven thirty midnight, it was almost
on ESPN two. I think it's what we want for

(55:30):
the viewership numbers out there. Not ESPNU and NDSU and
SDSU did what they needed in terms of getting wins
today to make that matchup the marquee one obviously game
at the FCS level, Nope, not getting game day ain't
gonna happen. I don't know if they have already. And
now it's where the're going, yes, dead, but they're going
to Austin, guys, that's where they go in Texas one today,
Georgia one today, They're going to see Texas and Georgia.

(55:51):
So they go a little bit of a preview for
that game next week. NDSU hosting SDSU. You want more
breakdown of that one, we'll have it for you all
week long on Bison sixteen sixty AM, ninety two point
seven FM, and Sam Niederman, the Voice of the Bison,
will also be on one to seven point nine The
Fox during the week for a little bit more breakdown
of what the game means, where the matchups are, who's

(56:12):
got the advantage in certain spots. Really, what it comes
down to, both teams are going to be good. Both
teams have an advantage in different areas of this next game.
But it's going to be another classic between two of
the best teams, if not the two best teams in
all of the fcs. We're here with you on Bison Hotline,

Halloween heart this year?

Speaker 8 (01:02:13):
Well, you know, I'm terrible at coming up with, uh
with costumes Halloween, but it is fun. I would say, like, uh,
when when we talk about holiday rankings, it's probably be
like I'm like my beatier. I guess it's not something
I really look forward to every year, but it's It's
pretty close to my birthday, which is kind of cool.

won that one. Does that.

Speaker 8 (01:02:48):

But if he was, you have a good chance. He's
already got two of those this year. He's just a
man of London. He is a man of the American
country getting everyone free wings. Yes over Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 8 (01:03:55):
What an American hero and what a great signing by
Quasi Oppamen's in the off season.

Speaker 7 (01:04:00):
Was we're here with you again on Bison Hotline. You're
live at Applebee's as NDSU wins at twenty four to
three over Southern Illinois. Some more messages coming in here
on the Facebook page. This time Karen says a win
is a win, but they can do better. I always
appreciate that everyone can do better. We're here on October twelfth.
I hope we're not playing our best football now because

(01:04:21):
that would be pretty depressing. And come playoff time. Some
room for growth for sure, Shannon says, hope they were
saving their energy and magic plays for next week. If not,
it's going to be a long afternoon. Here comes the
worrying for next week. Already we mentioned the phrase trap game,
and I think when you looked at the schedule this year,
Southern Illinois was the perfect trap game. That's twenty what

(01:04:43):
it was because it fell right between you and D
and SD issue a lot of emotional energy to beat
un D because it's an in state rival. They beat
you last year, they embarrassed you last year, so a
lot of energy and focus goes into that game. It's
hard to get up again to that very same level.
And then next week is SDSU hard to get up
three games in a row that that kind of intensity.

(01:05:06):
I thought on the road it was gonna be tough
to beat Southern Illinois. Now with all the injuries. I
kind of thought different this morning on buysing game day
with Courtney Mitchell predicting the score to be a little
bit more lopsided. But you know, as I think back
on and nowt but what to have it over again,
I would have gone back to what I thought earlier
in the year. It's just it's hard to be up
to that same level and be that crisp because they
played a nearly flawless game against you, and they, other

(01:05:28):
than maybe some special teams miscues, it's hard to play
that perfect for three straight games in a row. So
would have rather had a little bit of a clunky
game today, get the win and play more crisp and
more perfect and more up to that level next Saturday
when you're really gonna need it. Well, I agree with you.

Speaker 8 (01:05:42):
And when you go up like seventeen points or fourteen points,
is one of these things like let's just get out
of dodge, like let's get out of here as healthy
as we can, like not not necessarily take your foot
off the gas, but you felt confident that your defense
was going to continue to take care of business, and
they did, so I think that's also part of it,
like game flow and gamescript wise, when you guys got
got guys going out with injuries, you just want to

(01:06:02):
be safe with it. Don't push the pedal too hard
when you have a lead like that. So I think
that it's just one of those weird game flow games
where you just get into it and you just get
out of it with a win, and you're gonna be
happy about it.

Speaker 7 (01:06:12):
Yeah, Bob kind of saying the same thing on the
Facebook page again, you can comment there the Bides in
sixteen sixty facebook page. Bob says very happy about the win.
They will need to be sharper against SDSU. I've heard
several of the experienced players say how much beating SDSU
would mean to them. So my guess is they will
be sharper. Saw several players limping around today. Hopefully the
Bison will be healthy enough for that big game. That

(01:06:34):
is the number one question. Still haven't really seen any
updates there. Again, don't expect a ton of updates from
anybody from the head coach, Tim Poulasek about this game.
You know, Dylan Hendrix, I'm sure they're gonna have to
get some sort of look at that one, some imaging
or something done potentially on that, see how he reacts tomorrow.
It is encouraging. At least you saw Marty Brown come back.

(01:06:55):
He was definitely limited in that second half, but he
came back, had the late rushing touchdown. It was encouraging
you to sob Rice Lance come back and come back
pretty consistently played quite a bit in the second half,
so I think Bryce he can mark down is okay.
He had some offensive lineman kind of going in and
out in that second half, Jake Rock, Mason Miller. Jake
Rock came back in, so that looks fine. I believe
Mason Miller did two. Cam's gonna play next week. He's

(01:07:16):
gonna be healthy enough to play. It's just how healthy
you see how limited could Cam be? He looked limited today.
That ankle definitely bothering him to a certain extent. And
then Nick Koubitt's that'd be a big loss on defense
if you don't have kind of your starting middle linebacker.
Even with Luke Wartz back today, was great to see
Luke back for the first time in a couple of weeks.
You do feel like you need kubits. They are kind
of maybe you're you're more consistent tackler, you're more consistent player.

(01:07:39):
There's because he's played more games this year, been on
the field a little bit more often than Luke Wartz has.
Those are some of the injuries and the issues suffered
throughout the game. Again, we'll get uped in on those
serious ones like Dylan Hendrix and maybe Marty Brown as well,
but at least good signs. You did see a couple
of them coming back today.

Speaker 8 (01:07:55):
I hope, I hope the offensive line takes takes it
as a challenge and the offense in general outside of
Cam next week, where okay, maybe our guy, maybe number
seven is not going to be one hundred percent, so
we got to help him as much as we can
and not have need to have him play hero ball. Right,
Let's not get down, Let's run the football. Let's let's
try and churn out these these these yards to make
sure that Cam does not have to be running around

(01:08:17):
the field and put that put that ankle at jeopardy again.
So that's gonna be a big challenge for the old
line and the receivers. How about your quarterback. You know
he's been he's been awesome for you all year. Pay
him back a little bit next week and let's let's
have a good game around him.

Speaker 7 (01:08:30):
Yeah, I'm right there with you. Some other comments saying
they play like that again this next week. They'll be
lucky to beat the Jacks. They'll be lucky to even
lose by twenty to the Jacks, and stuff like that.
One thing about this matchup, I know we already kind
of previewed it. One more thing about it, when you
look at what SDSU has done this year, they obviously
are undefeated against the FCS. They only have that one
loss that came against Oklahoma State, a Big twelve team,

(01:08:53):
very similar to what NDSU has done. One loss Big
twelve team, it was Colorado. You look at the rest
of you kind of there is season as a whole.
They haven't played every game super crisp and super clean either.
You know, I bet you there's some of their fans
saying the same thing after a couple of their games.
We don't play better than we did today, We're not
going to be able to beat that team in North
Dakota or something. They played great today. They won sixty

(01:09:15):
three to thirteen. They absolutely demolished Youngstown State. There's no
doubt about that one. But that was at home, very clean,
very crisp game for the Jackson that one. You look
at what they've done throughout the year though against Oklahoma
State they lost at forty four to twenty. Weren't really
in that game at any point, kind of sort of
in it at half and then the third quarter it
really got out of hand away from them. They won
forty five to twenty four against Incarnate Word. But you

(01:09:37):
go back in and look at that game. At one
point in the second second half, in the third quarter
was seventeen all. When Incarnate Words scored, it was tied
at seventeen, and then it was a one score game
in the fourth quarter thirty one to twenty four. So
not as lop sided as maybe that final score would
indicate of being twenty one points away. A couple of touchdowns.
They're late or in the fourth quarter or shouldn't say late,

(01:09:59):
but in the fourth quarter for it DSU, and they're
able to pull away. Credit to them they did. They
made the winning plays down the stretch that they needed
to to get a win. After that, they faced a
non D one in Augustana, they only beat them twenty
four to three, the same score we had today. On
the road against the Valley team, we won twenty four
to three. They were at home against a nan D
one and won twenty four to three. So it's just
not pretending like SDSU. If we don't play an absolutely

(01:10:20):
perfect game, there's not a chance. Sometimes they're not as
good as they were last year.

Speaker 8 (01:10:23):
And their teams are going to have success sometimes like
on individual drives and plays like it's not like the
world doesn't need to be following just because the team
puts together like a decent drive into the red zone,
you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 7 (01:10:33):
And that's what happened a couple of times today. And
then NDSU would stop it if they forced a field goal,
which was missed. They also knocked the ball out and
got a fumble recovery on the first half of the game,
so they're doing some things right there also. And then
SDSU after that game against Augustana, I'll give them their credit.
They absolutely I think they figured something out here. They
went on the road at Southeast Louisiana had a great
but somewhat respectable FCS team, and they wiped the floor

(01:10:55):
with them forty one nothing. It's not gonna be a
playoff team by any means, but they won forty one nothing.
Then they had a bye week, went to Northern Iowa,
won forty one to three on the road in Valley play.
Very impressive no matter who you're facing there. And then
today they won sixty three thirteen against a Youngstown State
squad that is vastly underperforming. I think just about everybody's expectations.
The Penguins have not looked good. They're two and five

(01:11:16):
right now on the season, including a loss to to
Kaine this year. So this is gonna be a big
test for SDSU. They really haven't faced some, you know,
a team quite as good as NDSU at the FCS level.
I think in Cornet Ward is a good team, not
a great team, and the rest of them just aren't
a high caliber team at the FCS level. There's not
many of those teams out there, if you ask me.

(01:11:36):
So this is a big matchup for both of these
squads because NDSU, you can kind of say the same
thing now, they beat und who is a high caliber,
highly ranked team coming into play just last weekend. But
this is obviously a huge matchup for both and you're
gonna find it a lot about these two teams next Saturday.
But let's not sit here and pretend like if NDSU
doesn't play perfect, they're not winning, because this is SDSU
and you just can't beat them, Like that's not the case.

(01:11:57):
Both teams have had some ups and some downs this year.
Both teams been kind of figuring some things out early on,
and now it seems like both teams have figured a
lot of things out and the issue had a little
bit of a clunky game offensively here, a little bit
of a lull in that first half. They scored the
points they needed too, and the defense held a team
at their place to three points. It kept them out
of the end zone. That's a pretty good overall performance.

(01:12:17):
So a couple more thoughts there from our fine folks
throughout Bison Nation. Take another break here, we'll come back
and I promise you on the other side, we will
actually go around the country, go through the jiffy lube
of Fargo's scoreboard, give you some other scores from around
the valley, around the FCS and a big day at
the FBS level, a near upset and some games that
went down to the The why you're including an overtime

(01:12:38):
game in LA will tell you about all that when
we come back on Bison Hotline.

Speaker 7 (01:16:49):
Andy rickoff Steat receivers right Middleton and Lewis Nap to
Curry four man rush fires a middle by Middleton. He's
at the thirty of the boys loose Byeson.

Speaker 31 (01:16:59):
My have it.

Speaker 7 (01:17:00):
They're signaling. They do whistles, blowing in officials pointing Bison ball,
Bison ball. With two to go in the first quarter,
they threw it over the middle of the Middleton. He
had a first down, but it got pop loose and
the Bison come up with a recovery on the game's
opening drive. Big early play there in this win for

(01:17:21):
Indie issue twenty four to three. The final Sam Young
knocks it out and the recovery there by Nick KooBits
Johnny on the spot, Nicholas on the spot, whatever you
want to call him, the boyson get that early turnover,
and that was actually like you look back twenty four
to three games, like it didn't come down to one play.
We know it's twenty four to three. You won this
one convincingly, but that was a big play early on.

(01:17:42):
This is the Southern Illinois team probably going into this
game not a lot of belief, like, okay, we got
a freshman quarterback, this probably isn't gonna go well. I
was surprised they won the toss and chose to go
on offense right away, trying to make a statement. I
get it, so show some belief maybe in your young quarterback.
And they moved the ball down the field. There is
you know, the offset on NDSU, the illegal substitution, the
discerning signals or whatever we're calling that thing that I

(01:18:05):
still don't I don't know. I think you know that's
basically the defensive line is yelling, you know, hike or
something to try and get the offensive lineman to flinch
and that's kind of what that typically means, or they're clapping,
or the defensive line is doing something. Thanks for coming out, guys,
appreciate you. Here at Applebee's a defensive line doing something
to try and insta get the offensive line jumping right.

(01:18:26):
So we heard that weird first drive and you're like,
they're moving the ball. They converted the third and eleven.
How is this happening? And then you get the fumble
and that's kind of I gotta think to flight and
everybody there's like, I thought, maybe there's a glimmer of vote,
maybe we can early lead, and then it's just nope,
Force the fumble recovered it, took it back the other way,
scored a touchdown. From that point on, the Bison played
at the lead well.

Speaker 8 (01:18:46):
And to your point that you made earlier, Andy, these
the defense seems like they're playing with more confidence and
that's why they've been more short tacklers. And that's why
I think Sam Young moving to strong safety instead of
free safety, that's kind of opened that part up for
him where he is a physical guy and he's tackler
and he can just play open and loose like that.

Speaker 7 (01:19:02):
And obviously you know.

Speaker 8 (01:19:04):
Forcing to fumble first drive, your your offense picks you
up and goes down and scores a touchdown. Just like that,
You're you got the ball rolling and it kind of
felt like after that, let's just run round the clock,
get out of here. So it's a big first drive
there for Code Green stepping up.

Speaker 7 (01:19:17):
Let's take a look at our Jiffy lu Bafargo score Brooks.
I told you we would about two segments ago, and
we're finally gonna do it for you now. First off,
at the Missouri Valley Football Conference Weekly schedules. You look
at what happened this week in the Valley. We already
mentioned a win for South Dakota State. They win at
sixty three to thirteen against Youngstown State. The game was
down in Brookings SDS who takes care of business. They're

(01:19:39):
two to zero Valley play, five and one in the conference,
undefeated or five and one overall and undefeated against the
FCS this season. It sets up for a huge matchup
NDSU hosting SDSU. Congratulations, Indiana State, you will finish in
second to last place. You beat Marie State today, Yes,
thirty one to twenty seven. Barn Burner of a game there,
Indiana State improved to and four, Murray State falls to

(01:20:01):
one and five. The Bison will see Murray State in Murray,
Kentucky later this year in a couple of weeks actually
after the SDSU game. They do not have to make
the trip out to a little bit of Terra Dice
this year, and I have to tarre Hote this year
to face Indiana State, also Northern Iowa on the road.
They got South Dakota in this week's schedule, and they
were close at the end of the first quarter. We

(01:20:22):
seven to seven. From that point on, it really wasn't
that close, says USD scores twenty one in the second quarter,
fourteen in the third quarter, and they go running away
in this one forty two seventeen. USD gets the win.
Got say, we still don't know what I mean. We
know some about USD. They are a good team. You
don't beat a valley team forty two to seventeen unless
you are a good team. Now, how good are they?

(01:20:43):
We'll find out because they have faced a Southern Illinois
team that was already banged up when they faced them,
had already lost DJ Williams, their starting quarterback, and a
number of other guys. They faced the Northern Iowa team
here that two and four, zero and to two in
the Valley. Northern Iowa just isn't what they used to be.
They're just not They've taken several steps back over several
years now and they're not what they used to be
and they're owing to in the Valley mainly because of it.

(01:21:05):
Then they you know, you face some iffy teams in
the non conference. You face a drake team in the
non conference, doesn't really give you a test. You'd lose
a game because a whooping cough. We're gonna find out
a ton here about South Dakota as the year goes on,
but we already know they're a good team, and that
offense is legit. Forty two points against the Valley team,
I don't care who you're playing. That's a that's a
solid win. That's a solid amount of offensive you know,
production for you in that game, forty two to seventeen.

(01:21:27):
They get the victory. They should be probably in the
top four again this next week in the polls. And
then one that to me is just surprising one because
I thought Missouri State wasn't gonna be that good. I know,
they're transitioning to the FBS. Maybe that helped them get
some more players, some different players, maybe get the team
to come together a little bit. But Missouri State, all
of a sudden, you look in they're four and two
and two and zero in the valley. Because they go

(01:21:48):
on the road into Normal, Illinois. Not impossible to go
there and win. We obviously just did that a couple
of weeks ago as NDSU. But for me restate, to
go into Normal against an Illinois State team that just
had a big win is kind of fighting for the
playoffs already at this point. They can't really afford to
lose a lot of games. Well, Missouri State won at
forty one to seven at Illinois State. Just a surprising

(01:22:09):
result by the finish of that one, that the score
not necessarily that Missouri State won it, but how convincingly
they won it forty one to seventeen. Unfortunately, the Bears
aren't playoff eligible. They can't be voted on into the
top twenty five poll either by the media, so they're
not gonna be in any of that stuff. It doesn't
really matter, But that's gonna be an interesting game I think.
Now Senior Day Final regular season game here at home

(01:22:30):
in a couple of weeks NDSU against Missouri State and
for Illinois State, now they've basically basically given themselves zero
margin for error. They're gonna have to win against U
in d they have to win all the winnable games
on their schedule if they really want a chance to
get into the playoffs, they probably need at least eight wins.
But that is a bad loss at home for Illinois State.

Speaker 8 (01:22:48):
Yeah, you're gonna get that one at home if you're
the Red Birds. For Missouri State, now they're just playing
the role of like the berserker team, just trying to
blow up other team seasons, right, and.

Speaker 7 (01:22:55):
That's a dangerous team, right, Well, it gets the momentum
going into the FBS. What do we have to lose
at that point?

Speaker 8 (01:22:59):
If if you're the Bears and they've been playing really well,
as you mentioned, Andy, that is an interesting one in
the middle of November. I think we're going to be
coming off of bye that week, which is a positive,
and you get that one at home, So I'm not
I'm not gonna be sweating that one out too much.
But yeah, Bears tough out in the Missouri Valley this year.
Maybe it's not just a three horse race. Maybe it's
like a three and a half horse race.

Speaker 7 (01:23:18):
Need the top. Yeah, Andy of Missouri State, I think
has had talent. They haven't put that talent together, and
this year they're looking like they're putting that talent together.
At the very least. You're correct. It is off a
bye week, will go home against Northern Iowa, bye week
home against Missouri State Harvest bowlt Senior Day, November the sixteenth.
How about we look at the Big Sky as well.
One final already a team that maybe saved their season

(01:23:40):
a little bit to a certain degree, because if they
had lost it, season wasn't over, but season was going
to be in jeopardy in terms of a chance to
make the playoffs. And that's the Grizz of Montana. They
came in at four and two one in one of
the Big Sky. They had just lost last week at
home against Weaver State, and in the first half today
at home against Northern Arizona, they were trailing thirteen to three.
They were down at half, but Montana rallies with fourteen

(01:24:03):
points in the third quarter, fourteen points again in the
fourth quarter. Logan five throws for one to ninety nine
and a touchdown. A couple of rushing touchdowns in there
as well. Eli Gilman gives them seventy six yards on
the ground, and Montana beats Northern Arizona thirty one to seven.
They also hold the Lumberjacks to Lumberjacks to just seven
points in the second half. Good win for Montana at home.

(01:24:25):
You had to have that win there at Washington Grizzly Stadium.
A couple other games in the Big Sky. UC Davis.
I think they were looking ahead to this week. Last
week they faced Portland State, a winless team, and I
don't think they won. I think they got benefit of
the doubt on a last second throw to the end zone.
They got the win by one point. It will go
down as a win. You've got to file something there.
I'm just saying it. I'm just saying, don't watch the video, guys.

(01:24:48):
It didn't break the plane. It didn't. But they got
the win and that's all that matters. Thirty five to three,
UC Davis all over cal Pauly. They were clearly looking
ahead to this game right now, and they're up with
eight minutes to go in the second quarter. Still they're
up thirty five to three Mi Cal Paul scored twenty
eight points in that first quarter. Hastings their experienced quarterback

(01:25:09):
already two hundred and fifty one yards and three touchdowns
through the air again eight minutes left second quarter. Yeh
UC Davis can score with the best of them. And
then basically the version of Indiana State versus Murray State
in the Valley happening in the Big Sky this week
as well. Portland State winless at three and three Idaho

(01:25:29):
State right now, Idaho State as the thirty one to
twenty eight lead over Portland State. Weabvers State in Northern
Colorado are scoreless. They are literally just getting underway that
Portland State Idaho State game. By the way, also into
the second half. They have just started half number two.
They want to keep our eyes on Idaho on the
road in Bozeman at Montana State if you want to
stay up for it. Nine to fifteen kickoff ESPN two

(01:25:52):
Idaho at Montana State. Hopefully back to back weeks with
the f cs being featured on ESPN two. If the
Bison and Jacks can get on that one coming up
next week, because that was where you can catch Idaho
and Montana State now Let's go to the FBS. Let's
go to the top twenty five, because there were some games,
some crazy scores, some crazy finishes this week at the
top of the FBS, the top twenty five of the

(01:26:15):
FBS rankings. We'll start with Alabama, because you looked at
Alabama and you thought this is this is the Crimson Tie.
They're dynamic, they don't lose. They beat Georgia in that
classic of a game. Well then they go on the
road last week and they lose to Vanderbilt, and we're
all scratching our heads, wondering, what in the world just happened.
How do they just lay an egg like that? No
way it could happen again, especially not the following week

(01:26:35):
where they are at home. There's no chance they're going
to do that same thing again. They almost did. They
were trailing to South Carolina unranked game Cocks in this one.
South Carolina scored twelve points in the second quarter and
it was a fourteen to twelve game at the half.
Alabama had the lead. South Carolina then scores a touchdown
they took the lead, but Bama got two touchdowns early

(01:26:56):
in the fourth. They took a couple of possession in half,
lead a ten point lead there and ends up being
or what would be an eight point lead they took
against South Carolina, and then South Carolina gets a touchdown,
misses a two point conversion, goes for the on side kick,
doesn't get the on side kick. Alabama survives with a victory.
So number seven Alabama wins at twenty seven to twenty

(01:27:17):
five at home against South Carolina. They will improve to
five and one. I don't know if they will drop
in the polls at all. It will be interesting to
see being ranked seventhier. They kind of got man handled
on the line of scrimmage for about a quarter and
a half of that game, but they do escape with
the victory.

Speaker 8 (01:27:33):
Dude Klein de boor like he's I think he's gonna
do a great job at Alabama, like he's already got
a big signature victory against Georgia. But I think this
is kind of the Nick Saban effect, because there's no
way you can tell me that if Nick Saban was
still the head coach to Alabama, and it's tough to
compare somebody to the goat, right, that they're gonna lose
the vandabilt last week and then come back and beat
South Carolina by two points at home like that. That

(01:27:53):
is kind of like a coaching effect that that's I know.
Jalen Milroll is like a polarizing guy as a play,
but overall you kind of gotta look like, why are
they not getting up for these last two weeks after
a big win?

Speaker 7 (01:28:05):
That's the underrated thing about saban Is. Hadn't lost to
Vandy in twenty three games. It had been years since
they lost one of those kinds of games, like you
lose to Georgia, you lose to a Texas or someone. Okay,
we can give you a pass every once in a while,
but just he never lost those games. Like those kind
of things just did not happen almost ever in the
Nick saban era. Now two straight games, we're kind of like, okay, guys,

(01:28:26):
wake up, let's do something here. And they did survive.
They got the win and got thirteen points in that
fourth quarter and they win at twenty seven twenty five.
Such a big matchup for them next week with Tennessee
the Volunteers and the Crimson tie. That should be one
heck of a battle. Also Number eleven Notre Dame forty
nine seven against Stanford number fourteen BYU forty one to
nineteen over Arizona number ten. Clemson offense looks fine again

(01:28:50):
this week for the Tigers forty nine to fourteen on
the road at wake Forest. The game we wanted to mention, though,
is USC and Penn State close game Throughout. USC had
the lead for the majority of this game. They scored
thirteen points in the second quarter. They were actually up
twenty to six at the half at home against number
four Penn State, but the Nitney Lions score fourteen in

(01:29:11):
the third and ten in the fourth quarter to comeback
and tie it. USC was marching down the field at
the end of regulation and then Miller Moss threw a pick,
ends up going to overtime, and in overtime USC has
the ball. First, they throw an incompletion, they lose a
couple of yards on a run, throw another incompletion to

(01:29:32):
settle for a field goal. They missed the field goal
from forty five. All Penn State needed them was a
field goal. They got it thirty nine or thirty eight
yarder through the uprights, and number four Penn State goes
two time zones away and they survive against USC. What
do you make of that one for Penn State all
the way. But a number four, very high ranking, still undefeated,
but not convincingly against USC.

Speaker 8 (01:29:53):
That's a good that's a good win for Penn good wind,
good win for Penn State. Yeah, I mean going against
the like Linker Riley coach teams.

Speaker 7 (01:29:59):
Had, I'm back a lot there. I had to come back.

Speaker 8 (01:30:01):
I we still don't really know about Penn State yet
because they haven't played like the other big dogs in
the Big Ten. But now for us see, they gotta
win out they got they got three losses now and
you look at their schedule. Maryland that's winnable. Rutgers is
all right, you're probably gonna win that one. Washington will
be fun, Nebraska will be fun. But I think it's
gonna come down to November thirtieth. They got Notre Dame
coming to town at home. If you can get through
that part of your schedule, you feel like you can

(01:30:22):
pick up five straight wins there, get to eight and three,
and now it's almost gonna be a win and in
I think for for Notre Dame USC, but maybe I'm
giving the Trojans too much credit. At this point. I
think you're gonna win those games. I mean they lost
to Minnesota last week.

Speaker 7 (01:30:33):
The only way three loss teams getting in is like
comparing resumes, and I think the Minnesota loss is gonna
be worse than any other loss than another three loss team.
Might that's good point intention other than if that three
lost team is Alabama because they lost the fan maybe
that could be interesting if that that situation actually unfold
and we have that one a debate.

Speaker 8 (01:30:50):
We're not We're not gonna have a We're not gonna
have a Florida State situation. I don't think Florida State's
gonna be going in there losing their quarterbacks.

Speaker 7 (01:30:55):
Yeah, correct, I'm with you on that one. So very
interesting game there in the Big ten, Penn State going
on the road and getting the win at USC The
big game going on right now though number two Ohio
State at number three Oregon. Ohio State had the lead
seven to nothing. That lead has since been trimmed down
to just seven to six. Oregon has fought back. I
believe they missed an extra point though, and so a

Rickoff high snapped, the curry takes the shoulders right, rolls
out left under pressor Hello. Say hello to logan con
He went right into the cornerback who rolled into the
Blitz and a Biser linebacker Dectum for a sack loss
of four all the way back to the eighteen yard line.
Big sack there by Logan Cop, who had himself one

(01:36:49):
heck of a football game. Big game for Code Green
as they hold their opponent out of the end zone.
They win at twenty four to three on the road
at Southern Illinois. Logan Cop. You look at his final
stat line, pretty good one for the Bison linebackers. Seven
tackles leads the team there, three solo tackles, a sack
and a tackle for loss. Great work by the linebacker

(01:37:09):
out of Saint Louis Hole. Bison defense playing well in
this one, holding Southern Illinois to just three points and
a bunch of sacks. You get five sacks in this
game again from NDSU. You look at the tackles for loss,
they have a total of eleven tackles for loss. How
about Hunter zen Zen at TfL half TfL for Will
Monstar at Keenan Wilson. You get a tackle for a

(01:37:30):
loss for Dylan Hendrix, Logan Larson, Tobia, Neena, Darius Gibbons
with a tackle for loss Logan Cop obviously a tackle
for loss two and a half TFLs for Eli Mostar,
Anthony shadmiel Faro, a tackle for a loss. I can
go on and on here. There's a lot of them
today for Code Green. Pass breakups as well. How about
Darius Gibbons breaking up a pass Topia Neenna, a defensive

(01:37:50):
lineman with a pass breakup in this game. A couple
of those there for the Bison, of course. The fumble
forced by Sam Young recovered by Nick KooBits and the
interception by Darius Gibbons all great stuff today for Code
Green as the Bison win it twenty four to three
on the road at Southern Illinois. Want to take a
quick break here to be able to tell you about

(01:38:11):
the offense though, and to dive in the numbers a
little bit more. We already touched on Cam Miller eighteen
of twenty four. You had all surprised Cole Payton only
one pass in this game, just knowing the health of
Cam the ankle a little bit of an issue. There
didn't see a ton of Cole Payton, only three rushes
and one pass which was completed for seven yards.

Speaker 8 (01:38:29):
I am surprised. I am surprised because you could see
that it was bothering Camon. He said it after the
game as well, that he didn't feel fully one hundred
percent and quite comfortable. So I thought maybe they might
put Cole in there for like late in the third
quarter and have them, hey, third quarter of yours, fourth
quarter as yours, we're gonna rest Cam up a little bit.
So I'm surprised by that. Part of it is too.
You wanted to make sure you had the victory in

(01:38:50):
hand before you messed around too much with the offense,
because they were still moving the ball and they were
still getting production and putting together scoring drives. So I
guess that part in itself, it doesn't surprise me. But
the first time you saw Cam be a little uncomfortable
with it and start missing a couple throws, That's why
I thought we would have seen Cole a little more
get mixed in.

Speaker 7 (01:39:10):
I think if it had been twenty one points earlier
in the game and had been a different story. Once
he got the twenty four I always felt like, twenty
four is that number. Once he got up by that much,
that's probably when they pulled Cam. You put Cole in there,
But at twenty one points, it's still somewhat close and
that's one thing we were talking about before we started
here on the postgame show. Ian was man and one
thing about this game is came in to play the
entire thing. Now he was healthy enough to do it,

(01:39:31):
so that's fine. I don't think any big repercussions from it.
But you were kind of hoping to get him off
his feet a little bit, get him a break. But
Cam goes for the entire game eighteen of twenty four.
Does carry the ball, not nearly as much as he
typically does, and you could tell he didn't want to run.
Even the scrambling situations. He did take I think a
couple of sacks in this game. I think it's mainly
because he just didn't want to run. Ends up just

(01:39:51):
three carries for negative one yards. Cole Payton comes in
for just three carries for thirteen yards, one completion on
one attempt for seven yards. Receiving wise nine different receivers.
Once again, that is just a commonplace number now for
NDSU eight nine or ten different receivers leading in that
category were about five receptions for Bryce Lance sixty three yards.
Bryce was great, especially in that fourth quarter of those

(01:40:13):
final couple of drives to really salt that game away.
Chris Harris shout out to the young man to walk
on from El Paso, Texas and now has a scholarship
as well. Four receptions thirty two yards and a touchdown
back to back weeks for Chris finding the end zone.
Joe Stuffel mister Reliable had that huge thirty seven yard
catch early in the game on the first drive. Didn't
have much after that, but ends up with two receptions

(01:40:34):
for forty two yards. Barrika two catches twenty five yards.
Truman Waermeyer a couple of catches as well. The fullback
represent two catches thirteen yards. TK Marshall also Marty Brown
or McKay Collins part of me. Carson Williams and Braylan
Henderson all with one reception in this game. So Marshall, Williams, Collins,

(01:40:55):
and Henderson all one reception there for you. Carson Williams
back up tighten and getting a catch good for him
in this game. And one other thing on the offensive side.
Look at the overall rushing numbers. Marty Brown twenty carries
ninety five yards touchdown, Barrika a touchdown. On the ground
he got eleven carries averaged five yards per carry eleven
carries for exactly fifty five yards, and then TK Marshall

(01:41:16):
five carries in this game, I did have a long
of four yards, but lost a couple of yards on
some carries too, ends up with just one yard rushing
overaught that very efficient still on the offensive end, when
you look at what they were able to do and offensively,
not a crisp not a super clean game, some penalties,
some miscues, but they got a couple of good drives
and they able to find the end zone three different times,

(01:41:36):
four scoring drives. Just for overall offensive thoughts in this one, well.

Speaker 8 (01:41:40):
I thought there's positives you could take away. They never
really quite got in a rhythm that Briylan Henderson OPI call,
which was weird, like they almost didn't seem like they
touched each other. That kind of killed on their momentum
in the first half because they were rolling, and then
you get get into second and long and then you
have an incomplete pass on the sideline to Bryce Lance
and that kind of killed that driving the first half,

(01:42:00):
and after that he didn't get going again until late
in the third quarters. So obviously that's something you want
to clean up. You can't really do much when when
rest are calling, like if he calls like that, but
you gotta be able to respond. Marty Brown continues to
impress he still hasn't quite broken that long one yet.
He's he's still kind of he'll get you seven yards,
eight yards, nine yards, and he's he's doing a great
job at grinding down defenses. But he's gonna break win

(01:42:22):
here soon. He's due for one. I think as long
in the season right now as only like thirty five yards,
I say only right, But he's due for like this
big sixty yard touchdown run. I feel like it's coming
here pretty soon.

Speaker 7 (01:42:32):
Here for Marty and if By is an average five
point four yards per play, which is fine, but they've
been around that like eight eight and a half yards
per play, and most of the game so far this
season rushing and passing pretty somewhat balanced for most of
the game. Did a little bit less balance at the end,
trying to run that clock out. Forty two to twenty
five rushes to passes in this game. They've also been

(01:42:52):
really good in third downs. NBSU was just eight to
fifteen on third downs, which isn't bad. I mean that's
slightly over fifty percent but at sixty percent the rest
of this year. They do hold Southern Illinois to four
of ten on third downs. That's a good number, holding
an opponent to forty percent on third downs, and NDSU
was one of two on fourth downs in this game.

(01:43:13):
Six penalties for fifty yards. It seemed like they cleaned
it up in the second half. They had five penalties
in the first half. One one little thing that you
laugh about it, but end of the day, we shouldn't
be laughing about it. It's not popped up. A couple
of times these stinked in sideline warnings. They had the
one here at home or coach you know, was look
at the tablet, somebody runs into him, geinst the fifteen yarder.
Then we had a warning and an actual penalty. I

(01:43:34):
don't know who it was on, just on somebody on
the sidelines for NDSU, but sideline warrants, yeah, get the
guys back. I mean, hopefully it doesn't, you know, come
up again where it actually hurts you in a game.
It's happened in two games that were blowout so far,
which we just kind of laugh at, but hopefully does
not happen in a game that's a little bit closer.

Speaker 8 (01:43:50):
And you think that that's something that's like unbelievably fixable, right,
like heys knock it off with the sideline warnings, And
like you said, I don't think it's because coach p
or any of the coaches are getting these roughs faces
and being on sportsman like or anything. That's just knowing
where you need to be on the sideline. So it
is a little weird thing.

Speaker 7 (01:44:05):
Yeah, sideline warnings happen during the play.

Speaker 8 (01:44:07):
Right, Like it hasn't hurt them yet, as you said,
But yeah, don't don't have have that having a big
spot for you.

Speaker 7 (01:44:13):
Absolutely, time of possession was basically even at the first half.
It was only a difference of I think twelve seconds
in the first half of play, but Ndysu controlled the
ball for twenty of the thirty minutes in the second half.
When you get up on a team, you have to
be able to just salt that game away, not give
them possessions, not give them opportunities to come back in
the game. NDYSU does that. They win ton of possession

(01:44:33):
thirty five, twenty nine to twenty four to thirty one. Again,
they got twenty of the thirty minutes there in the
second half, really dominant on the road to be able
to see that game and just salted away in the
Bison five sacks Southern Illinois just one sack in the game.
Also the two takeaways fumble recovery and the interception. No
takeaways for Southern Illinois in this game. Tackles forty eight

(01:44:55):
to ninety three Southern Illinois. I did make a lot
of tackles in this game. Ninety three is a bunch
of tackles compareditor just forty eight for the Bison. Getting
off the field, getting Southern Illinois behind the chains a
little bit and get a chance to force some punts.
On defense. The Bison doing a good job there. They
hold Southern Illinois out of the end zone. We'll take
one last break here on Bison Hotline. When we come back,

(01:45:17):
we'll have some final thoughts from this one. Again, more

(01:53:48):
Final thoughts on this one ian big win for the Bison.
They win it by twenty one points, a little clunky,
a little clean, I thought clean for moments, clunky for some,
but it's on the road. In conference, he said, a
cornered animal before they get the win. Your overall takeaway
from this one as we focus our attention towards STSCU.

Speaker 8 (01:54:04):
Well, overall, I think you're just gonna take the positives away.
You're worried about the injuries, but you get out hopefully
relatively health you're gonna take on check on Dylan Hendricks.
But defense is continuing to play well. That was something
on the non conference play like, hey, what's going on?
Is this gonna be an issue that we're gonna have
to be dealing with again this year with the tackling
with the Russian defense. But the last three weeks they've

(01:54:25):
really turned it on and teams have like kind of
stopped trying to run the ball. And part of that
is the offense is getting up, but Cold Green putting
some really good tape on film. It's gonna be big
next week against STSU. Obviously, nine pass catchers for the
Bison again, that's a really healthy number, I think, especially
when got guys like raj On Nelson that that was
out today again and then Brayln Henderson still dealing with

(01:54:45):
with some of him some of his injuries. But overall,
a good win on the road in Missouri Valley. That's
that's always gonna be something that you're gonna take good
takeaways from.

Speaker 7 (01:54:54):
Yeah, it's on the road, it's in conference, hard to
get wins there. They won. It was exactly the way
I envision it going down. It wasn't, but the Southern
Illinois team. I also think they're going to keep fighting.
That young quarterback is better than today I thought it
was going to be. Still he's small, he's undersized. I
think as the season goes on and teams figure out
what he can do, which won't take too long, they're
gonna scheme things up and it probably has some mistakes

(01:55:16):
and some tough games. I mean, today was tough game.
They didn't score touchdown, they didn't get in the zone
they want to score three points in NDSU's defense, even
not really knowing exactly what to prepare for what to expect,
they were able to hold them out of the end zone.
A pretty good day overall for the defense. Offense, we
had some things figured out. I think they're dealing with
their share of injuries, some guys on the offensive line,
a little in and out, Bryce Lance, Marty Brown, clearly
Cam was on one hundred percent either tomorrow, Monday and Tuesday.

(01:55:40):
Just get the ice bass going, get the cold tubs,
whatever you gotta do, get some sleep, get the stim
stuff going through the the you know, the electric stim things.
I don't even know what to call them. I'm not
a doctor. Whatever you need to do, sleep at a
holiday and express whatever you gotta do to get healthy.
I want this team. It's just a shame when you
have a game as big as NDYSUSDSU. I don't want
injuries to really be You need fact either side.

Speaker 8 (01:56:00):
Mister Miaghai come out with his fiery cup thing and
then just fix it, just.

Speaker 7 (01:56:04):
Like yeah, yeah, the fiery cup thing. Rub some fiery
cup on it. I rub some dirt on it. I
don't know what the time.

Speaker 8 (01:56:09):
When you play, when you play your sea game, like
against on the road against some Missouri Valley pointy and
you still win by three touchdowns, that's that's a good thing.
That's not something where you're like, Okay, why'd you play
your sea game? Well, we played our sea game and
we still won by three scores, So.

Speaker 7 (01:56:21):
That's a good thing. We will take that. A win
is a win, and NYSU gets a dominant win today
twenty four to three over Southern Illinois, and we focus
our attention next week Bison Versa, Jacks one verse two,
the conference on the line, top two seed on the line,
and a lot of else going on here in Fargo.
It's gonna be a great day because it's a night game,
either six thirty or seven o'clock. We'll find out probably

(01:56:44):
late tonight or at some point tomorrow, we'll find out
the official kick time for that one where it is
on the TV as well, whether it be ESPN two
or ESPNU. We will have all that stuff for you
and we'll let you know as soon as we do
on Bison sixteen sixty and one oh seven point nine
in the Fox, So stay tuned for that. But it's
going to be a massive game. It always is between

(01:57:04):
those two rivals, and this one looks like it's going
to be another classic between the Bison and the Jacks.
Before we say goodbye, what do you have to say?
What's Bart Scott say? Can't wait? Can't wait, can't wait?
Bart Scott, Aluma, Southern Illinois. In case you didn't know that,
we found that out this week. Pull in that registration box.
Here we go, first timer. So he's gonna draw Ian's
drying right now for our winner. Drum roll please, there
you go, and hopefully it's the name you can pronounce

(01:57:27):

Halgan Jake Hogan. So I'm going with Jake. Yes, Jake Holgan, Congratulations,

on Bison Hotline, the Bison get a win twenty four
