Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's time to react. This is Bison Hotline and your
home for NDSU football one oh seven point nine the
Fox and Bison sixteen sixty. We'll analyze the outcome of
today's game and take a look at other scores around
the country. Calling into the show with your reaction at
seven oh one four seven six sixteen sixty. Bison Hotline

(00:22):
is brought to you by Bobcat. Build a future, Building
the future. Apply today. Now, let's go live through Applebee's
on sixteenth Street North. Here's Andy Rickoff.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
Make that twenty six in a row for home openers
for NDSU, twenty six straight victories to open up the Fargodome.
The same thing happening here this season as the Bison
get a dominant win over the Tigers of Tennessee State
fifty two to three. Welcome in to Bison Hotline live
here from Applebee's just north of the Fargard Home. If

(00:59):
you're listening and you have to Fargo dom when you're
stuck in line to get out, just park it walk
on over. We got you right here at Applebee's. A
bunch of Bison sixteen sixty swag some different yard signs
for you. Plus you can win tickets to the homecoming
game against Towson coming up here in a couple of weeks.
All that here with you, Andy Rickoff joined by too
great fellas here with us at Applebee's for most of

(01:22):
the season. One, Chris Hansen with us once again. Mark
Miller can can stop saying you don't show up to things, Chris,
So you're here. You're working today at least slightly.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
Well, it's a two hundred yard work walk to work.
I can make it. I can make it for that.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
You can make that one happen at the very least.
And then the same man that joined us on Bison
Game Day earlier today, Jaycava with us as well, made
his first appearance on Bison game Day and now taking
us own first appearance on Bison Hotline.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
The full day effect for you.

Speaker 5 (01:48):
Yeah, you know, I'm back again, so I haven't got
fired yet, so that's a good thing.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
And once again we're over for offensive players coming to
do the best game show, so we're stuck on the
defensive side.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
The defensive side has continued to rule the roofs when
it comes to Bison Hotline. From Jerrick to Hendrix Emmanuel,
we've had Dudzick Dudzick yep or Mitchell's whole defense Jackson
Hank has done the pregame show before. I guess offensive
people just don't like us, Chris.

Speaker 6 (02:12):
They do say that defense wins championships, so.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
Well, yes, it's hard to argue with that. They also
talk the most I think got anybody. Yeah, I think
there's no coincidence there communications key on.

Speaker 4 (02:21):
They just don't know football very well. Is when it
comes down to. Is what I've been told by other
defensive plot.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
We if you have to know football to do this,
I should just leave now?

Speaker 4 (02:27):
Are you jakeing by yourself on this?

Speaker 7 (02:29):
Sorry?

Speaker 6 (02:29):
Here we go?

Speaker 2 (02:30):
There you go, call on in. I know everyone's got
a lot of thoughts from this game. Like you said,
the Bison get the win, their twenty six straight win
in home openers have not lost a home opener since
they lost an Emporia State back in nineteen ninety eight,
so it has been a little while. Call on into
the show, though. Phone line's open for you right now
seven zero one four seven six sixteen sixty. You can

(02:50):
call us up there, or you can also text us
at that very same number. Seven zero one four seven
six sixteen sixty on the Bison sixteen sixty Facebook page
as you do or page and Twitter page. We do
have a post up there to react to if your comment,
they will get to as many of those comments as
we can over the next hour and a half here
or so, live again from Applebee. Some great stuff, great appetizers,

(03:12):
year great food. We'll get some of it sampled here
for you and we'll tell you how good it is
on the air. But call us up and let us
know your thoughts from this Bison dominant victory over Tennessee State.
We thought it would be guys, a dominant win. We
thought NDSU would get their first win of the season,
hopefully in pretty dominant fashion, and it definitely was that way.
Fourteen points in that first quarter twenty one, including a

(03:34):
excellent basically minute and fifteen second drill to end that
first half, and they win this one fifty two to three.

Speaker 4 (03:40):
Chris, your thoughts from this win?

Speaker 3 (03:42):
It was exactly what you would hope. I think maybe
over the top of it all, have no major injuries
that we know of that we saw going into coming
out of the game. I want to stay as healthy
as you went into the game. Coming out of it.
I think NBSU showed that there what they are against
this team. Now what it'll look like in a month,
we'll see. But against this team, you had to come
out and do it. And my first thing when people

(04:04):
would say what do you think about the team this year?
I said, my number one question is that the wide
receiver slot that was arguably the biggest hole that was
needed some for filling. You lost a lot of catches
from shavers. Yeah, you lost a lot of catches this
year or from last year to this year. So to
see the artist formally known as Trey Lance's brother step
out into his own and kind of become Bryce Lance,

(04:27):
how many Bison fans had to catch themselves when they
were talking about him? That number five for NBSU was
really good. To see him shine nine targets today, seven
catches over one hundred yards in the end zone a
couple of times. That was really cool to see. So
for me to see somebody in the wide receiver room
step up and say throw me the ball. I want
the ball, that was good to see.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
Yeah, no longer Trey Lance's brother exactly like here on
going forward. Yeah, Bryce Lance, that's right his zone man,
that is for sure, Jake, we said we wanted to
see a dominant win. We said we wanted to see
some good things from the defense. They didn't even allow
Tennessee State to cross midfield until late there in the
fourth quarter.

Speaker 6 (05:01):
Yeah, you know, it's kind of a get back game.

Speaker 5 (05:02):
Obviously, what happened in Colorado, you're not going to see
an offense like that very often in the FCS, if ever,
But to come back, you know, we knew what Tennessee
State was before going to the game, but you have
to go out there and execute and show that. And defense,
Code Green did a really good job today. Defensive line
got pressure on the quarterback second or the back half.
The defense was a lot more sound in their coverages.
And obviously, like the score shows fifty two to three,
I wish Tennessee State would have went Corey. That was

(05:25):
kind of a loser field goal in my opinion, but
it would have been fun to see Cod Green try
get to stop on fourth.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
What's cheaper fifty wings and Applebee's or kicking a twenty
one yard field goal to not get zipped.

Speaker 7 (05:36):
I don't know about that one.

Speaker 5 (05:38):
Come on, especially like we'll talk all the time as
a team like when we're on Like, putting a zero
up a dosesn't matter if you're in fourth grade football.
Putting a zero up as a football team is awesome.
You know, NBC had the chance, but then we almost
got close to block in that field goal too.

Speaker 6 (05:50):
It was we were right there up the middle. But yeah,
it's kind of.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
A sorry, you're better than that. Yeah, we're better than
There's a.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
First and goal from like the two inch line, and
they kept him out of there, which was really impressive.
From at that point, you see your younger guys, third
stringers really at that.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
There's a pride to that where there's a second and
third stringers are in there, like, hey, let's close this out,
take it home, because you don't have that opportunity. Everyone's
trying to score. It doesn't They still had their ones
in deep into the fourth quarter and they're trying to
you know, get into the end zone. So if there
was a blemish on the day, that would be.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
Well, you know that that's what they give them, the
youngsters a hard time, or they let him in the
en zone at least with the field goal and not
gonna get quite.

Speaker 4 (06:26):
As hard of a time.

Speaker 5 (06:26):
Well that's why I love to just to see the
leadership being down the sideline on that or on that
goal line stand where the endup kicking the field goal
you had. You know, will most start Eli, most start
Dylan Hendricks Gray is able right there on the twenty
yard line, you know, cheering those young guys on getting
it matters to stop them for sure.

Speaker 6 (06:39):
We're not gonna let them score a touchdown.

Speaker 5 (06:41):
So that's awesome to see, you know, the leadership for
the young guys on the fourth quarter of a game
that's well out of hand.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
Right, there was a lot of cheering going on for
young players because there was a lot of firsts in
this game. We'll get to all those a little bit,
but you already might mention Bryce Lance he has his
first touchdown. He makes it his first two touchdowns as
a Bison wider. See ran a whole bunch of other
firsts here for NDSU, I will take our first break though.
I know we got a couple of people on the line.
Hold on they We'll get to some phone calls, some

(07:08):
text messages, and some more thoughts from Bison Nation on
the other side. Early break for us. We'll come back
resett and I get your rest's thoughts as the Bison
win convincingly over at Tennessee State fifty two to three.
This is Bison Hotline.

Time for more reaction from today's game, Pure Again is
your host Andy Rickoff.

Speaker 13 (11:28):
Here's the first down at ten Miller with a quick
screen writer. It's caught by John Gors looking for the corner.
He breaks a tackle, he's into the nisode touchdown and
the SU and touchdown Johnny Gores. What a moment for
John Gores, the Bison's underdog.

Speaker 4 (11:51):
I played that one.

Speaker 2 (11:52):
Specifically for the guy sitting to our left, the Fargo
Shanley graduate Jaycava. John Gore's first touchdown today, first of
our one of many first for NDSU. But I thought
John Gore is getting in the end zone for six.

Speaker 6 (12:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (12:04):
I couldn't be more excited for John Gores. You know,
he's gonna be a he's gonna be a player for
us the entire season. You know, he's one of those guys.
You got him on scout team. I think he's a
third year guy, I think, but you're right. He just
kept showing up and showing up, and he's playing slot
receiver on the scout team and we just couldn't stop
him as the one defense. To see him get out
there today and his punt return and score a touchdown

(12:25):
a little bit later.

Speaker 6 (12:25):
I mean, obviously he's been small his whole life. He
knows that. But yeah, the kid can play football.

Speaker 5 (12:30):
And I think that that's what NB hangs are having
and we get a bunch of guys that are overlooked.

Speaker 7 (12:34):
They can play football.

Speaker 3 (12:34):
I'd love to see today with the muff punt picks
it up and turns nothing into fabulous. Yeah, yeah, good
to see it. And you know, you like to see
the local guys do good. You know, it's obviously a
regional or if not national school, but when you see
you know, Pennu taror Hark Gores, you know, all these
local guys who are doing things you love to see that.

(12:55):
I love to see at the end of the game
him in there too, you bet.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
Yeah, So great moment for Gores is right, third year guy,
smaller guy five six, But he's been that his whole life.
Seems like used to it. Even in fall camp. You know,
he'd be running with the ones and all of sudden
they throw a deep ball to him and.

Speaker 4 (13:10):
He'd win a jump ball.

Speaker 2 (13:11):
I'm like how I just I literally just say hot
on the teammates just laugh. I'm like, I don't know,
they don't know.

Speaker 5 (13:17):
And he's just he has an uncanny. His ball skills
are really good for a guy that in five to
six is extremely lenient. I've known John Goar since he
was a little kid. He's five six is lenient. But
he's he's just on the little part of the Yeah,
he's he's just been.

Speaker 6 (13:31):
He just makes place.

Speaker 5 (13:32):
And you know what, you just keep making plays, keep
putting in your work, keep doing things right. You know,
you can get rewarded. And we saw that today.

Speaker 4 (13:37):
Yeah, and it was like he will be the punt returner.

Speaker 2 (13:38):
Yeah, so that's what it kind of looks like, at
least someone that's going to be heavily used in the
punt return game, and not just because of the game that.
It was like, he's going to be one of those
guys all season long. So great to see John Gores
get in the end zone there for six, one of
many guys who got in the end zone for DYSU
in this game. Has to win fifty two to three
over Tennessee State. Let's jump over to the phone lines.
Now seven zero one four seven six sixteen six you

(14:00):
can get in with us as well. And I just
lost the guy we were going to bring on, just
lost them. Call back in icon. We'll get you on
the air here in just a little bit.

Speaker 4 (14:09):
It's my bat on that one. We'll get them back
here on the air.

Speaker 2 (14:11):
Call us up seven zero one four to seven six,
sixteen sixteen. We'll get your thoughts as Endy Issue wins
this one fifty two to three. I do have the
list of firsts. John Gore's first touchdown as we just said,
Bryce Lance a couple of touchdowns, his first touchdown today,
Marty Brown first touchdown as a Bison today. The young
running back got in they're on his second second chance,
got a carry of like three yards down to the

(14:32):
two and then punched it in.

Speaker 4 (14:32):
After that, we have.

Speaker 2 (14:33):
Eliosik first field goal as a Bison today and a
fifty one yarder, the longest field goal since twenty sixteen.
Cam Peterson against Charleston Southern hit a fifty two yarder
in that twenty sixteen year. Nathaniel Staling first interception for
Ndy Issue, McKay collins first touchdown today, Logan Larson and
Keenan Wilson combined on the first forced fumble and fumble

(14:55):
recovery of both of their careers. Cole Payton's first reception
that was interesting, lineup in the slot, gotta pass from
Cam Miller. We Utopian Ena with his first sack as well,
and then Nathan Hayes with his first touchdown. Is the
third string quarterback at a long rushing touchdown into there?
Which one of those firsts impressed you the most, Chris.

Speaker 3 (15:11):
I would say, or Trey Lance, Bryce Lance, I'm not
even doing it. I think seeing him be that guy
who's maybe gonna step up today. And you could tell
that he had nine targets. I don't think anyone else
had over two, so obviously Cam was looking his way. Yeah,
like if you can start building on that, then you know,
obviously stuff Will had a big game in Colorado. It
was good to see him, you know, get to the

(15:32):
tight ends and then today, like today, it wasn't tight ends.
Today was wideouts and so that was good. That was
my favorite first of the day to.

Speaker 4 (15:39):
Tapping on that second. Yeah, which one impressed you?

Speaker 6 (15:42):
Most defensive guy? I'm gonna go with Keenan Wilson.

Speaker 5 (15:45):
If a lot of stuff the d tackles do don't
show up stat she If you watch the game he
played today, what he was doing getting knocked back and
just causing havoc in the inside. You know he's going
to be a really good player for us, and I
think Coach Politics touched on that a couple of times
earlier in the season. You know, Kean Wilson's gonna make
plays for the NCU buys and defenses. So I was
really excited to see him getting getting a strip sack
and then Logan Larsten the window washer guy, get a

(16:07):
little plumer recovery.

Speaker 6 (16:08):
There.

Speaker 4 (16:09):
There you go.

Speaker 3 (16:09):
You gotta be known for something.

Speaker 2 (16:11):
Keane Wilson part of a very deep and talented defensive
line for Indias.

Speaker 4 (16:14):
We got him back.

Speaker 2 (16:14):
The Icon is with us and on the air this time.
I got you this time. I kind of appreciate you
calling in. What are your thoughts as NDUS who gets
this win today?

Speaker 16 (16:23):
Well, I'll tell you what you hung up on me.
I'm we got to put you on the spot.

Speaker 4 (16:28):
Okay, fair enough, fair enough, all.

Speaker 16 (16:30):
Right, So here here's the question. You know, everybody knows
how much no one enjoys a blowout win more than
the Icon does. However, My question, you guys, is.

Speaker 17 (16:41):
With a blowout win like this, what exactly does a
team learn that they got I know, one thing is
how deep their bench is because a lot of guys
played today, which is awesome. But my question, you guys
is what is the other things that a coaching staff
looks for with a blowout win like this.

Speaker 16 (17:02):
That's my question. I'll hang up with listen, we'll talk
to you guys. Wait.

Speaker 2 (17:05):
Thanks, well, thank you very much much. I kind of
appreciate that call. It's a great question. I'll go to
the guy. It's a coach as well, because he's coaching
high school football. What do you take away from a
game like this? In a blowout win, you get a
lot of guys in there, obviously.

Speaker 6 (17:17):
Yeah, you know, at the end of the day, executions execution.

Speaker 5 (17:19):
So when you look at offensive defense, they're going to
break down the film and you know, are we in
the right spots on defense? Offensively when we're doing zone scheme,
gap scheme, are we picking up the right guys? You know,
obviously plays when how we wanted, we could put up
a bunch of points, didn't let them score at all.
But at the end of the day, you can still
look to see the execution and if that was there,
if that wasn't there, which I think for the most
part today it was there, So that can be a
thing they can build on going forward. Is like, okay,

(17:39):
maybe against corrad on our back half, you know, we
blew a couple of coverages. Where we sound today on
that And same thing offensively, you know when we're working
our combos up to linebackers by the offensive line, you know,
we're we cleaner on that today than we were last week.
And then how can we better be better for Eastern
Tennessee or at.

Speaker 7 (17:52):
East Tennessee Saxa stage.

Speaker 2 (17:53):
Yeah, next absolutely, And there were some plays like maybe
the quarterback gets hit, but at the end of the day,
was the safety in the right spot you know, yeah.

Speaker 4 (18:00):
Have to throw it or didn't get to throw.

Speaker 2 (18:01):
But were we in the right spots there defensively? And
we said on the pregame show, big thing for me,
a key to the game was tackling. You know, no
more of these misstackles. And this was the team that
was gonna throw it quick and some speedy receivers are
going to try and break tackles and bust some big plays.
I don't think I saw how many mistackles, if any
of them out there?

Speaker 18 (18:16):
Really?

Speaker 3 (18:17):
Yeah, I think the other thing you look for, and
it kind of goes to what you said, Jake, was effort, right, Like,
you know the effort's going to be there when you're
facing Colorado, you got a big twelve team, you're at
their house, it's all the things. You know, the effort's
going to be there. But when you roll the ball
out against a team that you're already a five to
six touchdown favorite, let's see the effort. Then, let's make
sure you're gotting all the eyes, crossing the t's and

(18:38):
doing what you're supposed to be doing and not just
kind of going through the motions even which they can
and still win. But right, there's some of that too,
of like I want to see the effort always, no
matter who we're playing.

Speaker 18 (18:48):
Yep.

Speaker 5 (18:48):
Yeah, And that's one thing too, Like one thing the
coach is always pres shrus. You know, you don't win
a game, but you can't just roll out the boys
and helmet win a game. You still have to go
out there and execute, play hard, play fast, play together
what co Green's been built on. But like you said, yeah,
it was there and that's that's a standard VANDISU football.
The effort always as a matter for playing you know,
the Alabama Crimson Tide or we're playing Morehead State, you
know that same effort has to be there week in

(19:09):
and week out.

Speaker 7 (19:10):
There's a Bison standard as that.

Speaker 2 (19:12):
Even Dean Sanders himself was saying here earlier in the week.

Speaker 4 (19:15):
Yeah. Some text messages as well.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
You can call her text us again seven zero one
four seven six sixteen sixty of this from Darla Jean
says little Johnny Gores sure plays big, absolutely plays bigger
than this. His size may say on the roster, but
he's a player and definitely someone that not just this game,
but he'll have a role offensively and of course on
special teams. Another text in here says, my question is

(19:38):
what was the game attendance for this game this afternoon?
That was sixteen, eight hundred and eleven if I remember
off the top of my head there, So I thought
pretty good attendance overall. With obviously being the first home gemme,
I think that increases things a little bit from excitement
after the Colorado game. And it is East or is
Tennessee state for this first game. It's not SDSU or
un D so a little bit short of a selloup,

(19:59):
but up pretty good attendance, and clearly the fans made
an impactcause the very first play we had a delay
of game before the first nap.

Speaker 3 (20:05):
So I think that I think there's an energy around
Ndyasuo of football and athletics in general. Once again, I
think that that obviously starts with the guy who is
there when you because you feel an ownership, right like
Chris Climbing goes to k State, every Bison fan feels
a little ownership to what he's doing there because of
the success of what he.

Speaker 2 (20:23):
Had built their impact right right.

Speaker 3 (20:25):
So I think that when you have a guy like
coach p gets his shot, I think people look at
that and say, I remember this guy and he's you know,
buys in blood, and he's through and through and he's
a fiery dude to begin with. I mean even no
matter where he came from. So I think there's there's
definitely energy going with the NDACU Athletic Department.

Speaker 6 (20:42):
Absolutely.

Speaker 5 (20:43):
Yeah. An attendants seventy one degree day in this area
the world. There's some people at the lakes, he's one
more and more weekend.

Speaker 3 (20:50):
Yeah, Yeah, I get that too.

Speaker 2 (20:52):
Somebody asking us, well, what's the record for home attendance
for a home opener. Probably a sellout would be my
guess on that one.

Speaker 18 (20:58):
For you.

Speaker 2 (20:58):
Probably sell out some point after a national championship most likely.

Speaker 5 (21:01):
I would say that Charleston Southern game that camp or so,
because I was the FCS kickoff game.

Speaker 6 (21:06):
I believe on national television.

Speaker 3 (21:07):
Slash wasn't back to back with Chuck and then Eastern
YEP Eastern Washington like those back to back games. I
think that in Iowa right Like I mean, that was
probably as good as you're ever going to get it
as far as your first couple of games.

Speaker 2 (21:20):
I still call Eastern Washington the Replay Bowl. There's four
replays in the first half of that game. The first
half took about two and a half hours. It was
just crazy hell long that game win. It was a
phenomenal game throughout it as well. One more text message
in here before we take a break says I thought
Bryce Lance's second touchdown catch was crazy great game by
the BIS and I would agree first one was good too,

(21:41):
but that second one, you got good coverage by the cornerback,
he catches it, comes down, gets the feet in bounds,
controls through the ground. It looks like a real player
for us and someone that they're going to have to
rely on. Like you do have the vets and in
Braylen and Roger that can help you out a lot,
but you need that kind of taller, go up and
get it receiver that can take the top off the defense.

Speaker 4 (21:58):
I think Bryce can fill that role.

Speaker 3 (21:59):
Yeah, I don't know. As far as his speed, we
haven't seen that, but today we got a good example
of what he can do in to catches. Yeah, even
you know. The other one of it's it's just good
to see somebody that you're like, Okay, can we have
one of those Warren Holloway types, the Zach Vrod type,
like that big tall body and he's not six six,
he's not Zach Mathlis kind of tall, but to have

(22:20):
that bigger body frame that you want as a cue
or a wide receiver, good target for the quarterback to
throw too.

Speaker 5 (22:26):
And the ball placement on that back shoulder freight from
Cam was picture. You can't throw better.

Speaker 3 (22:30):
Nobody else is going to catch that but him.

Speaker 7 (22:32):
That's it.

Speaker 2 (22:33):
Yeah, brilliant throw, brilliant catch their Brice Lance by the way,
seven receptions one hundred and six yards and two touchdowns.

Time for more reaction from today's game. Cure A game
is your host, Andy Rickoff.

Speaker 18 (27:10):
Here they gonna win.

Speaker 13 (27:11):
Br the goal Biller quick main route, right side of
the end zone, cat two, beat it bounds, touchdown Bison
and guess who it is?

Speaker 2 (27:20):
Bryce Lance with his.

Speaker 13 (27:22):
Second career touchdown, catch his second of the half as
the Bison punched it in before the break and make
it thirty four to nothing. Here you go, touchdown catch
by Bryce Lance, one of his two touchdown receptions on
the day as NDSU wins this one fifty two to three.
And Chris, the other thing about that drive is not

(27:42):
just the end there, which was great to catch by Bryce.

Speaker 2 (27:44):
They had a minute in sixteen seconds and they started
on their own forty And in a game like this,
you do blow out a team to our previous texture, Like,
what do you learn from this game? That's good situational
football to go down there, thought Tim Poulsay called some
good timeouts as well. Clock management was good. Score on
that little two minute drill.

Speaker 3 (28:01):
Yeah, always when you have the opportunity. And that's the
reason why you you defer to the second half in
NDSU is like paid bill after bill after bill by
doing that to teams over the years, is you can
put a oh, this one still got a chance to
it's out of touch with two stores, you know, end
of the first half, and come right back out on
the second. So to watch them run that drill, not

(28:21):
freak out, get it done, have the time out still
in their pocket. I think they had all three to
start that drive. And then now with the two minute
timeout that also came into play because there was I
think like two fifteen or something like that. When they
first they were first like driving, I thought, oh, they're
going to call it time out, and they're mean, oh,
they got the two minute coming, So you'd say fifteen
seconds if they would have called the time out before

(28:42):
the two minute something that has changed this year. You
got to adjust your thinking. But but it was nice
to see them run that be quick inefficient with doing it.

Speaker 5 (28:50):
You know, you always practice those situational football moments in practice,
but it's another thing once you're gonna eat the lights
on Saturday and you're out there doing it for real,
and that's an awesome You know, you can bank that
rep for a game you know later, notock to November,
which go to mean something.

Speaker 6 (29:01):
To get that rep in a game like this is
huge for the guys.

Speaker 3 (29:03):
And when you go to practice. Maybe I don't think
a lot of people don't realize this when you're at practice.
If you when you're watching, they'll say, all right, we're
gonna do third and seven from the thirty eight. You know,
like we gotta get some yards. Who we get if
not a first time, we got to get this, you
know they'll situational. You guys are always working.

Speaker 5 (29:18):
Yeah, oh yeah, absolutely every day. I mean the last
especially on Mondays, I think, is when they rep it.
When we rep it, they rep it. That's kind of
weird to say no, they rep it.

Speaker 2 (29:24):
You can still say, yeah, we never play it.

Speaker 5 (29:27):
Yeah, when we wrap it on Mondays. You know that's
you just call out like, okay, it's we do endy
game situation. It's fourteen to eight, we're down, you know,
six points, how do we How are we gonna go
about this drive? And you know, get get in the
end zone and keep the pat to win it and
stuff like that. So, but to do it in actual
game situation and get those reps is gonna be huge
down the road.

Speaker 2 (29:45):
Yeah, when you're in that situation against somebody in the
valley in a couple of weeks, then you have confidence
that you're able to do it. So those are key
situations for sure. You can call us up seven zero one,
four seven six, sixteen sixty.

Speaker 4 (29:57):
You can text us.

Speaker 2 (29:58):
There as well, or you can just show up here
in person at Applebee's and get your way onto a
headset by taking it off of Chris's head, like Mark
in America is doing. How are you doing? So great
to see you here at Applebee's.

Speaker 18 (30:10):
Well, guys, it's a fantastic game. The boys did what
they needed to do, and I am very happy with
a fifty two to three win. Actually met some of
the player's parents after the game out in the parking
lot and considering I live in Tennessee, I said, guys,

(30:31):
we're we're gonna come down and have fun with you
next week. And they were very respectful. And you know,
I love the fact that Chris actually showed up for
his job.

Speaker 4 (30:42):
Yeah, you know.

Speaker 2 (30:43):
He shot at Chris longer than I thought.

Speaker 4 (30:46):
It was like fifteen to twenty seconds in.

Speaker 18 (30:47):
But okay, you know I've got I've got his headset.

Speaker 2 (30:50):
Yeah, so I'll control it for the rest of the
thoughts from this one. As you said, obviously in a
blowout win of endy issue.

Speaker 18 (30:56):
Right, but the boys did what they needed to do.
Just like last week. We had no offensive penalties, we
had no false starts, we had no anything that way.
All right, That's what I that's what I loved about
last week. We had no procedural penalties. Going into this week,

(31:17):
we knew we were gonna win. And don't take that.
But just get the second and third stringers out there,
give them reps, and then you have the opportunity to
start building depth because if those second and third stringers,
if one guy goes down, next man up. Jake, you

(31:39):
know that very well, absolutely, And so that's where I'm
not worried about Honestly, I'm not worried about any game
until October nineteenth. Yep, and we're still we're still going
to what do we play on October nineteenth? Some some
bunny bunny team, you know, kind of.

Speaker 4 (32:00):
Tricks bunny bunny funny.

Speaker 14 (32:02):
There you go.

Speaker 18 (32:03):
Yeah, I'm not worried because they didn't chill well last
week in.

Speaker 2 (32:08):
A dog fight right now with incarnate word as well, so.

Speaker 18 (32:11):
There even better because incarnate word is not the incarnate
word that we faced in the semifinals two years ago
or three years ago.

Speaker 6 (32:18):
Lindsay Scott was a scary quarterback years ago.

Speaker 18 (32:22):
So Bison Nation, do not be concerned. We'll be back
in Goo.

Speaker 4 (32:29):
And did you get your tickets already?

Speaker 7 (32:31):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (32:31):
Okay, there you go.

Speaker 18 (32:32):
And by the way, come and hang out with the
fire Helmet next weekend in Johnson City Town.

Speaker 2 (32:39):
Oh, I know, Carolinas will be down there for sure.

Speaker 18 (32:42):
Absolutely, we're gonna be there. We're gonna be there in
full force.

Speaker 2 (32:46):
Looking forward to seeing the show next next week obviously
down there and next year as well with the Citadel
and then a trip down to Nashville to take on
this same Tennessee state.

Speaker 5 (32:54):
Squad that can be dangerous for Nashville, could be dangerous
for Broadway.

Speaker 18 (32:58):
The bars down very hopefully. Well, here's the crazy part.
And I learned this. I learned this little nugget of
information from a friend of mine in Cookville, Tennessee, where
I live. Steve Smith, not the Steve Smith from the Panthers, okay,
but Steve Smith from Tootsi's. He is the largest buyer

(33:22):
of beer in the entire state of Tennessee because he
owns and has a piece of Lower Broadway. He's bigger
than Walmart. He's bigger than Food City, He's bigger than Kroger's, Gotcha's,
bigger than any other grocery store, Walmart, Target, anything like that.

Speaker 6 (33:39):
Are you challenging by the nation right now?

Speaker 18 (33:41):
I am challenging b I want listen. I want twenty
thousand to show up in my state next year and
phil as much as we can of Nissan.

Speaker 6 (33:52):
Stadium and drinking on a beer, piece of cake.

Speaker 2 (33:55):
Pcke, Hey, you Mark appreciate the time things are popping
by with us for a little bit looking for that
trip and seeing the hospitality of Nashville and Broadway next year.

Speaker 18 (34:03):
It's that Southern hospitality.

Speaker 4 (34:04):
They're done right.

Speaker 2 (34:05):
It is thank you very much, big win for ENDYSU
fifty two to three, the win here over Tennessee State.
I am very much also looking forward to Nashville. Have
been there a couple of times, so that will be
a very nice destination game I think for Endias and
hopefully as dominant of win next year as the Bison
have gotten here this year over those very same Tennessee
Tigers Tennessee State Tigers. I should say I will do

(34:27):
a quick run through some of the scores in the
valley here in just a little bit, But first let's

Time for more reaction from today's game Pure Again is
your host Andy Rickoff.

Speaker 13 (38:58):
We lined up in the level flo here's second down
from the fourteenth play. Actually, no, it fires a bit'll
touchdown there. It is the first career touchdown catch for
Bryce Lance, fourteen yards right down Broadway Camp. The Bryce
and the Bison head on to their lead here on

(39:19):
the first quarter.

Speaker 2 (39:21):
It's thirteen nothing good guys. Phil gets the Bryce Lance
hotline at this point. So many highlights from him and
first of two touchdown receptions for Bryce Lance today as
NDSU wins it going away fifty two to three over
at Tennessee State. The Bison get that victory now on
the right side of the ledger one and one on

(39:42):
the season. I think a look at some of the
other teams in the valley. Andy Jcabba and Chris Hansen

the end zone. With the Beisen work today when they
got fifty two to three victory. Other teams in the
valley South Dakota put up a really good fight at Wisconsin.
They lose this won twenty seven to thirteen, but they
were down just fourteen or seventeen to thirteen at one
point in the third quarter. Had a very close game there.
Wisconsin poll's away a little bit at the end. They

(40:23):
win it twenty seven to thirteen. Youngstown State wins big
over val Perezzo. No surprise there. The Penguins get their
first win of the year. They're one and one. They
win at fifty nine to twenty five. About Northern Iowa
really struggling with a Saint Thomas squad.

Speaker 4 (40:37):
They were on the road in Saint Paul.

Speaker 2 (40:39):
Saint Thomas lost last week to Sue Falls, a non
D one. They lost convincingly to Sue Falls, and Northern
Iowa went in there and had to score ten points
in the fourth quarter just to escape O'Shaughnessy Stadium with
a seventeen to ten win.

Speaker 4 (40:53):
Reaction from those three games for you guys.

Speaker 6 (40:56):
Yeah, you know, excuse me, yeah, that you.

Speaker 2 (40:58):
Had a pregame in a postmus losing radio Vetri.

Speaker 6 (41:02):
No, that you and I get.

Speaker 5 (41:03):
I mean, what's going on down in Iowa right now?
You know, you and I back in the day I
was a I mean you circled that game on the
schedules of Bison football player and you know, Coach Farley,
I mean, that's there's no such thing as a bad
winning college of ball.

Speaker 18 (41:15):
I don't want.

Speaker 6 (41:16):
Don't get me wrong.

Speaker 4 (41:16):
Are hard to get.

Speaker 5 (41:17):
Wins are hard to get. Half the team's win, half
team to lose every week. But you know, you would
think seeing what Saint Thomas, how they struggled with suit Falls.
They lost to suit Falls convincingly, Like you said, to
have a you and I team go there and you know,
struggle to get a win against that Saint Thomas team.
You know, I'll be interesting to see how they how
their season ends up going in the Missouri Value.

Speaker 2 (41:33):
When we're doing the playoff seating thing. It's just going
to be a win on the res of it, right,
but it is not an impressive winning. They've been struggling
in the last couple of years, and they're going to play
here this year. We'll get him inside the Fargo for
the first time in a good number of years here.
But like I said, it used to be a game
fans really really circle. I still think there's gonna be
good attendance for that game, but it does feel like
it doesn't have the same punch it used to.

Speaker 3 (41:52):
Chris, Yeah, I would. I would agree with that the
Farley climbing battles back in the day where there was
something more personal it was on the line going on there.
I want to look at the Yoats and the Badgers
anytime you go into Camp Randall and hang that feels good,
Like that's not a place you go into and ever
think you're gonna be able to come out of with
the w And you know they're down fourteen to nothing

(42:14):
in the first quarter and then outscore them thirteen to
six to get to the fourth quarter, and then they
only give up one touchdown to lose in the fourth quarter.
Like that's you're hanging with it. That's a Big ten
team in a big time place of playing well there.
So again, moral victories that that doesn't mean anything, at
least that Indiacuo it doesn't the other schools. It might

(42:35):
have been at Inducio it doesn't because they're used to winning.

Speaker 2 (42:37):
Those kind of didn't learn anything about ust last week
they beat Northern State like fifty six to zero or
whatever it was. But I think you learned something about them,
like they had a good year last year. Obviously they
were what third seed I believe, and then in the
playoffs they had a very good year. They came to
the forgardom and got to win that not many teams
were able to do. The question for them is, okay.

Speaker 4 (42:55):
Can you back it up?

Speaker 2 (42:56):
Well, they've had do wayoff teams before, they haven't made
the playoffs the following year.

Speaker 4 (43:00):
It does look that they got a quality squad.

Speaker 5 (43:02):
Yeah, and that's interesting too because you know Wisconsin's O
line coaches Aj Blosik, so he has sex familiarity with USD.
So you'd think that Wisconsin team at a little bit
better prepared to play the Coyotes, right, But obviously they
went on went in the Camp Randle and gave them
the game. So maybe the Kyots are going to back it.

Speaker 2 (43:16):
Up this year now their valley team, that is a
little bit surprising early in the season. How about Missouri State.
They lose today, so they're now oh to two. So
the moral victory thing, I get it, because they're O
and two, and at the end of theay, oh and
two is OHO and two. But they're at fbs ball
State today. They're up seven to nothing after the first quarter,
tied seven to seven at a half time tied fourteen
all going into the fourth quarter, and then it was

(43:36):
a back and forth affair. All of a sudden, they
started scoring in that fourth quarter. They lose at forty
two to thirty four, but a one score game there
at FBS ball State. The week after, they played a
one score game in Missoula against the grizz who were
in Friscore a year ago. So we thought Missouri State,
at bottom of the valley not can be very good.

Speaker 4 (43:53):
I know it's oh and.

Speaker 2 (43:54):
Two, but at least they've been competitive in these two games,
look like maybe better than we thought.

Speaker 3 (43:57):
Yeah, not all FBS games aren't created, but you take
a team like ball State, then yeah, you should be
competitive as one of the top teams in the valley.
You should be able to run with them on talent level,
at least at the top level talent.

Speaker 7 (44:09):
Life not them.

Speaker 3 (44:10):
Yeah yeah right.

Speaker 5 (44:10):
And that's one thing Missouri is that they've always probably
been like coming off the bus, that's one of the
best teams in Missouri Valley every year year and they
out like Missouri State upfront, and they always have some dudes.
So one thing I always worry about that team is,
you know their motivation. You know they're owing to right now?
How do they keep that locker room together going out
the valley play? And that's you know they've they've always
had great athletes on the outside, their D line, O
line or they look the part. But it'd be interesting

(44:31):
to see, you know, can they keep that locker room
together going forward?

Speaker 2 (44:33):
They've had some great individual talent, Yes, it's for them.
Can they put it together for that entire team? Will
see as the year goes on. But okay, start as
good as you can for being owing to two to start
a season.

Speaker 7 (44:43):
Moral victories right exactly.

Speaker 2 (44:45):
Indiana State at Eastern Illinois right now, five minutes to
go in the first half. There, Eastern Illinois has the
ball and leading Indiana State fourteen to seven. Murray State
is up seven to three on Butler. We are two
minutes left to go in the first half. Will cruise
right past those two games and get your guys just
and the other games going on right now? How about
und at home against Montana. That game was moved to

(45:05):
a six pm kickop and wanted that plays packed at
the Alera Center. Don't know if it's packed, I'm sure
it is. It's a rockeous environment, but it's not having
much effect right now because Montana is up twenty one
to seven with five minutes to go in the first half.

Speaker 5 (45:17):
Yeah, you know, as this game, you know, as at
twenty one to seven right now, it's gonna be interesting
to see when North Dakota gets out of what they
want to do, that's run the ball with their quarterback.
When they want to make Ron Forro throw the ball,
It'll be interesting to see how he does with that
because we don't know if he can throw or not.
Like last year when we played him, he was more
of a wildcat quarterback. So now you're down twenty one
to seven against Montana, we'll see what happens. Obviously, they
can stay with their game plan right now. I mean

(45:39):
it's still is it early in the second quarter, yep,
midway through still six relatively early, so you can stay
on script so far. But once it gets down, you know,
a third core or fourth card you need to drop
back and throw the ball. It'll be interesting to see
if the young kid can go back and spin it.

Speaker 6 (45:50):
A little bit.

Speaker 2 (45:52):
And we got Incarnate Word and South Dakota State at
eleven minutes to go, in the first half in that
game in Cornate, where they believe ranked fourteenth or fifteenth
in the country and South Dakota State obviously ranked number one.
Their home it's their home opener, and with eleven minutes
to go in the first half, st Issue is up,
but only up ten to three. They were down three
to nothing at the end of that first quarter of
play first game down there in Brookings.

Speaker 3 (46:13):
Chris Incarnate word we were talking off air. That's one
of those teams that you never know year to year
with the amount of people they're gonna bring in cast
offs from other you know, FBS or smaller.

Speaker 13 (46:23):
Calzada, their quarterbacks of transfer from Texas A and Adam
two year, you never.

Speaker 3 (46:26):
Know what you're gonna get with them. And with the
transfer portal and all that, it's so easy to get
hot real fast, but then it seems like you can
fall down just as fast. So you never know what
kind of team you're gonna get with the Birds. And
we'll see if they can hang with the Rabbits today.

Speaker 2 (46:40):
And Southern Illinois is at Austin p right now.

Speaker 4 (46:43):
Austin P.

Speaker 2 (46:43):
The Governors with a ten to seven lead two minutes
to go in the first half in that one. Southern
Illinois won that. It's a big rivalry game between those
two teams. Southern Illinois won it last year. Can they
come back if they're being down here by three with
two minutes ago in the first half. We'll let you
know further on in that game. And we get going
here in Bison hotline. So there you go in the
source of the Valley scores here in week number two.

(47:04):
A couple other scores at the FBS level. You mentioned
Chris Cleman his squad, Kansas State, they were at Tulane
a little bit of a home and home or I
think it was two games at k State, one in
two lane. That's how the game got to two lanes
and people asking that question. KSE State was there on
the road. They were down by a couple of scores
in the second half. They come back and get the
victory in that game. So a good win for k

(47:26):
State there at Tulane to come back and avoid an
upset against Tulane for the second straight year.

Speaker 4 (47:32):
Nice job by Chris Climbing and squad.

Speaker 2 (47:34):
You also a blowout for Texas on the road at
Michigan in the Big House. They win that one convincingly
and going away, and we've got one going on right
now that I think a lot of Pyson fans very
interested in Nebraska and Colorado a previous opponent for NDSU,
And right now it's on Nebraska fourteen nothing. Shador Sanders
did throw a pick six and Nebraska has the football

(47:56):
again here and driving do I utter the words in hanging.

Speaker 3 (48:01):
Over They got up for one game.

Speaker 4 (48:04):
They must have.

Speaker 2 (48:06):
They were all about NDYSU. They weren't paying attention for
the week after against Nebraska, and it looks like the
corner Oscars might get Colorado. In all seriousness, we want
Colorado to be good. It will make ndisu's game against
them look better. Right now, I think Nebraska doing what
maybe some of us thought they were gonna be able
to do.

Speaker 4 (48:22):
They're getting after Shador.

Speaker 2 (48:23):
NDISU is a half step away on some sacks, and
right now Nebraska's not that half step away. They're getting
to Shador and then the ball's back to this Nebraska offin.

Speaker 3 (48:30):
But for us old it's really cool to see the
old big teams that these two teams like, they really
don't like each other really from the olden days. So
it's one of those where the You know, the players
on the field weren't even born when those two teams rivals,
you know, but to see those two teams now in
the same conference both or you are in the same
uh kind of like the same landscape. To see them

(48:53):
playing each other, A yeah, right, He's like, that's gonna
be a lot of fun.

Speaker 5 (48:56):
And I think this Nebraska team might have something. This
little mini Mahomes Dilan Reela Cort. This kid's legit. You know,
he looks the part. He's got the same quarterback trainer
as Mahomes. You got the hair, he's got the side.
He can drop his arm, angle and make passes. I
think Nebraska might have a quarterback.

Speaker 3 (49:08):
Would you ever get off the bus Jake looking like that?
Probably not know, like you're just flat out stealing somebody's flow.

Speaker 5 (49:15):
But Mahomes is okay, But you get Patrick Mahomes' blessing
good pull.

Speaker 4 (49:18):
Yeah, Holmes is at the game.

Speaker 2 (49:21):
I believe potentially Amazan so this good company. Kansas State,
by the way, got to win thirty four to twenty
seven over to Lane. Oklahoma State had to come back
double overtime. They got to win against unranked Arkansas and
number eight Penn State was pushed today by Bowling Green.
They won it thirty four twenty seven Texas to beat
Michigan thirty one to twelve. There's the updated scores for

(49:41):
you now that I can get my app to work correctly.
I would take a break though here on Bison Hotline.
We'll come back. Go through some of the stats heres.

Time for more reaction from today's game. During game is
your host Andy Rikoff.

Speaker 2 (54:08):
Here's Nathan Hayes running up the middle.

Speaker 13 (54:10):
He's got space thirty five card, twenty five, twenty cuts
out side fifteen ten five touchdown Dathan Hayes, the third
straight quartering leep being into the ed zone for a touchdown.
What a moment for Hayes who has waited his turn
and he gets his first career touchdown all the way

(54:33):
to the end zone, a fifty one yard skipper and
a fifty one nothing lead for the Bison.

Speaker 2 (54:42):
Welcome back to Bison Hotline. Here alive with you from
Applebee's Nathan Hayes. Big touchdown there, third string quarterback gets
in he gets a score on the ground. One of
many players who got their first scores here for ends.
You count them, five different players getting their first touchdown
for the Bison. Today as they win fifty two to
three over Tennessee State. For all our listeners on one

(55:02):
or seven point nine the Fox, if you listen to
Bison sixteen sixty, we do this thing called future Crop
of Bison throughout the summer. Nathan Hayes guy on my team.
I picked the third string quarterback. Hey, he need some
plays at some point this year potentially, and he comes
up with a big one right there and nice touchdown row.

Speaker 3 (55:18):
You don't get to see a lot of QB three, No, No,
you just don't. I mean it doesn't matter whatever level
you're looking at. QB three doesn't get a lot of
play obviously for him to take the advantage of that,
And it was interesting. I was listening to the Green
and Gold Show today with Jay Bartley name drap right,
and he was got the hat on it right, and
he was he was talking to coach Hedberg.

Speaker 2 (55:38):
He's like, who you know?

Speaker 3 (55:39):
We all know Cole, but who's the next guy that
is out there? And he's like, heyes, is a player,
like he probably he's going to be pushing next year
to maybe that he might be the guy.

Speaker 1 (55:50):
Yep.

Speaker 4 (55:50):
So he looked good.

Speaker 2 (55:52):
Into spring spring ball, I had a good performance at
the spring game, I thought, and fault.

Speaker 4 (55:56):
Can't be everything he needed to do.

Speaker 2 (55:58):
Like I will say what Tim paul Seca said is
you're seeing Cole Peyton use a lot of different ways
right now. You know he kind of passes a slot receiver.
Today he's the line up at running back and took
a hand off. Obviously he's gonna be in at quarterbacks
some times too. Because of Nathan Hayes's emergence and getting
better to the point where if worst case scenario were
to happen, when you have injuries to your guys, they

(56:18):
feel confident Nathan Hayes could win them a game or
go in there and manage the thing that they could
still win with them. Because he has emerged that way,
they feel more confident to be able to play Cole
in other positions.

Speaker 4 (56:28):
I think that speaks to what he's been able to do.

Speaker 5 (56:29):
Yeah, Nathan, he has a live arm. I mean he
was recruited heavily as a baseball player at high school too.
He's from Saint Charles East High School in Illinois. Same
high school is celt mcasly and they're high school teammates.
But he was sitting like ninety five as a pitcher. Oh,
he's got a big arm. He can push the ball downfield.
So yeah, like you said, I think as you see
Cole Peyton, you know, moving the slot, and we'll see
him an h back maybe lineup in line at the

(56:51):
white position at tight end.

Speaker 6 (56:52):
But I think they are comfortable with him.

Speaker 5 (56:55):
Obviously Cam's our guy, but if you know, stuff happens
and we get down that road, they're comfortable. Nathan Hayes,
you know, calling the plays and being the single caller back.

Speaker 2 (57:02):
Still want to expose Cole Payton to too many hits
or if it has to be the backup in case
Cam goes down one out, if you got somebody else,
you feel confident you can use Cole in some different areas.
So there you go, Nathan Hayes, nice touchdown run there
for NDSU as they win fifty two to three over
Tennessee State today, the three coming there towards the end.
They didn't even allow Tennessee State to cross midfield there
until late in the ballgame. A couple of final stats

(57:24):
here for you, total yards NDSU four hundred and thirty
six of them, Tennessee State two hundred the Bison.

Speaker 4 (57:32):
How about this for net rushing.

Speaker 2 (57:33):
Yards guys to twenty six to twenty six on the
ground for the Herd compared to seventy two for the Tigers.
On down forty one rushing attempts for NDSU, by the way,
five and a half per carry, and they did have
three rushing touchdowns, including one from Cam Miller his third
rushing touchdown already of the season. And then passing yards
as well two hundred and ten through the air for

(57:53):
NDSU one twenty eight for Tennessee State. The Bison were
seventy four percent seventeen of twenty three through the air
and Tennessee State sixty eight percent. They didn't complete a
decent amount of passes. Like we said, they're gonna get signars.
They're gonna complete some passes because they're throwing quick. They're
throwing some of those easier routes. But they did not
allow a lot of yards after the catching, only seven
point five per completion for Tennessee State today.

Speaker 6 (58:14):
Yeah, Co Green did what they needed to do.

Speaker 5 (58:16):
You know, obviously had a great week of practice when
out execute a game plan. I talked to g O,
you know, walking off the field at the end of
the game. He was pretty happy obviously very coach speak
got watched the.

Speaker 6 (58:24):
Film and see how they did.

Speaker 5 (58:25):
But you know, I think his initial thought was, you know,
he was really happy with how the guys played, how
they responded to you know, we didn't play our best
game defensive Leagueainst Colorado. I mean, as a former player,
I'd probably know the defense a little bit better than
the average fan. But there were some blown coverages, there
were some things that we needed to clean up, and
I think they took a step forward today in doing that.

Speaker 6 (58:42):
And you know, I think GEO and Coach Gays will
be happy with that.

Speaker 2 (58:45):
Welcome to the media, and my friend you ask my
question is just, oh, you gotta watch the film.

Speaker 4 (58:48):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (58:49):
Even on the inside, they still won't give you all
any longer.

Speaker 2 (58:53):
We played well.

Speaker 4 (58:54):
I like everybody.

Speaker 2 (58:55):
I mean, this is still one player that stood out. Oh,
I liked everyone.

Speaker 3 (58:58):
This is still a team that scored a lot of
points next weekend and to hold them out of the
end zone. I don't care who you're playing. Again, the
other team's always trying to stop you. So they did
score you know, over forty points last week and then
now hold them out of the end zone this week.
That's a big accomplish.

Speaker 5 (59:10):
I think coach Brown had He's like the teams we
play are divisional and athletes too, that's right.

Speaker 10 (59:14):
Remember that gets scholarships to go to class for free.

Speaker 6 (59:17):
Yes, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 4 (59:18):
There you go. Buys them.

Speaker 2 (59:19):
By the way, five of five in the red zone
scoring touchdowns. That was important. I know something Jake Landry
wanted to improve after last week there against Colorado, said
the thing for a couple of field goals and also
on third downs NDSU eight of thirteen Tennessee State four
of fourteen the Bison and also went for it a
couple of times on fourth down two of two there
on fourthouds. One of them was on the very first drive.
So I seeing Tim Pauli saik obviously a team you

(59:41):
feel like you're better than in the trenches, and then
it's fourth and two. They went for it and they
were able to pick.

Speaker 4 (59:45):
It up there.

Speaker 5 (59:46):
Yeah, I think coach Policy I was extremely comfortable with
the Rams up front, you know, getting pushed back, getting
movement on the Tennessee State front. So it'll be interesting
to see as we go down the line and see
some you know, better fronts. You know, how does that
decision making coming to play, you know, and you're I
think a couple of the one on the first thing
might have been the minus like forty five yard line.
So interesting to see, you know, when we're playing South
Dakota State, Missouri State was one.

Speaker 2 (01:00:06):
Against Colorado was a fourth and one there towards the
end of the first half and they punted it.

Speaker 6 (01:00:09):
Yeah the first week.

Speaker 3 (01:00:10):
So yeah, Well, when you know that you're also setting
a tone, you are, right, like you're telling the players,
I expect this out of you, and so go do it.

Speaker 5 (01:00:18):
And I remember on that first fourth they went for
cam Miller was sitting at and he was like, let's
run it again, Let's run it again.

Speaker 7 (01:00:23):
We got this, so yeah, yeah, yeah, that was a
good one.

Speaker 2 (01:00:26):
So two of two on fourth down conversions for ANDYSU.
Also three sacks and three quarterback hurries for the Bindings
and Code Green defense. I got a defensive player. We
got to mention something and the defensive side fifty tackle
is thirty eight from solo, eight tackles for a lost
there ago. We did have three pass breakups, so I
believe one from a defensive lineman. We mentioned that pregame
we had get some pass breakers from the t line.

Speaker 5 (01:00:45):
I mean, we do have Dylan Hendricks in the crowd,
so we didn't mention Code Green and the Alley Cats.

Speaker 6 (01:00:49):
I probably come over here and have a few words for.

Speaker 3 (01:00:51):
Us, but I was a little surprised, speaking of which,
I was a little surprised you didn't hear more of
their names throughout the game, like in a game where
you you know, the other team doesn't score. It was
one of those games where the defense played good, obviously,
but it was like all these big, sparky plays that
really got a lot of attention, you.

Speaker 5 (01:01:07):
Know, and that's what we hang o as the defensive
line out. I'll get in my soapboxer for a little
bit as a UFI. We're the we call ourselves the
alley Cats. Why the alley cats. We were just out
in the alley. No one cares about us or mangy
Cats is doing doing the party work, right. So you
know what, when the defense plays well, it's strong because
upfront they play well. In a game like this, you know,
you didn't have a bunch of those splash plays, no
big sacks on third and long stuff like that. Actually

(01:01:28):
we did have a couple big sacks on third and long,
but when the d line's playing good, normally the defense
plays good.

Speaker 6 (01:01:32):
And that's how it was evident today.

Speaker 2 (01:01:34):
Well, the defense starts with the defensive line and it
all starts. Got to win in the trenches, Yeah, to
win out Chuck text in seven zero one four seven
six sixteen sixty text us your thoughts there, says I'm
curious how the gap scheme will be implemented in the
Bison offense this year.

Speaker 4 (01:01:51):
You go ahead, gap scheme, what do you got?

Speaker 5 (01:01:53):
Yeah, well, Chuck, that's a good question. H NBCU is
built on scheme uh A, gap power. It's a big,
big run scheme for the Bison, So I think they'll
be running a lot of it. And coach Paul isec Me,
being a former running back coach, likes you're on gap scheme.

Speaker 6 (01:02:06):
So you'll see a lot of gap scheme this year.

Speaker 13 (01:02:08):

Speaker 1 (01:07:49):
Who made the difference today for the Bison. This is
the Dakota Refrigeration player of the game.

Speaker 4 (01:07:56):
John Forur's backpedaling to get the ball.

Speaker 13 (01:07:58):
He catches it at try at the eight, able to
get around a hiss ten hole and there he.

Speaker 18 (01:08:03):
Goes, running the right side of the ten.

Speaker 13 (01:08:05):
He stunter steps inside of fifteen Dallas sideline twenty twenty
five thirty thirty five forty forty five to fifty forty
five forty doors in sign the thirty five and he
has wrestled down in the Tennessee State twenty eight.

Speaker 2 (01:08:19):
How did that just happen? John Dors, who buffed.

Speaker 13 (01:08:24):
The punts, picked it up inside his own ten, rushed
all the way up the ther sideline and made it.

Speaker 2 (01:08:31):
A big game. What a play by the walk on
on special teams. John Gore is the big muff punt
turned into a sixty seven yard return, almost broke it
all the way for a touchdown. He will get his
first touchdown later on in the game. John Gores not
only because he had a great game, but also because

(01:08:52):
he's from Fargo Shamy High School, I appreciate that.

Speaker 13 (01:08:54):
Coub he will be our Dacorta Refrigeration player. Yeah, the
game we boys, Johnny, there you go.

Speaker 2 (01:09:01):
Dri I Player of the game. Dakota Refrigeration helps athletes
succeed behind the scenes, from the training room to the
dining room, from melk to medicon, ice to ice cream.
D ri I has been serving Minnesota, Montana, and the
Dakotas for over forty years online at dak reff dot com.
John Gore is the best thing about that highlight, guys,
is when he muffs the punt and you can hear

(01:09:23):
in the background the audible U from Phil Hanson. He
just goes ah and then you pick it up and
he doesn't let Phil Hanson down and he gets a
great return on it.

Speaker 5 (01:09:32):
But Johnny did tell me when I went up to
him after that because I was on the sideline, He's like,
that was that was part of the you know, I
want to get the gunners coming out of a little bit,
you know, and give me give me a little angle
on the edge there, get outside.

Speaker 7 (01:09:42):
I'm like, yeah, you're lying.

Speaker 3 (01:09:43):
We had them right where we want to all the time,
all the time. When that that muff happens, it does something.

Speaker 5 (01:09:50):
Because also in the gunners, they see the ball on
the ground like, oh, get to the ball, and they
get out of their lanes. And then when you are
and he's so low to the ground, it's pretty easier
for him to pick it back up and get going.

Speaker 3 (01:09:58):
It's magic.

Speaker 7 (01:09:59):
I'm telling you.

Speaker 2 (01:10:00):
I will say, he's using his advantage there. He was
an advantage, muppet. I'm closer to the ground than the
rest of you.

Speaker 3 (01:10:06):
I had to know. So I went back in the
archives and looked at another local Ish guy, Ryan Smith
five seven won seventy five gores versus Ryan Smith, who wins.

Speaker 5 (01:10:19):
Johnny's got a lot of football to play ahead of him, Yeah,
you do. We put him in the same conversations, right
well Smith, but.

Speaker 2 (01:10:24):
Right now, I mean Ryan's older, so.

Speaker 3 (01:10:28):
Yeah, sure currently, But that's another one of those guys.

Speaker 7 (01:10:31):
Maybe John is a chance, you know, they have to.

Speaker 3 (01:10:34):
It seems like there's always somebody on the team that
is that guy. Like I think of an r. J Orzandowski,
same kind of build, small and not maybe that small,
but a smaller dude's like that just out work. Everybody
that it seems like they have to work twice as
hard as it doesn't, you know.

Speaker 6 (01:10:49):
And he's you know, he's been doing his entire life.
He didn't just wake up yesterday. He's dealt with his
entire life.

Speaker 3 (01:10:55):
See who I am.

Speaker 6 (01:10:55):
He made plays in high school.

Speaker 5 (01:10:56):
Now he's making plays at the divisional level in college football,
which is awesome. But like you said, there's something about
that work ethic that when you know what, you just
keep working and working and working, and all of a
sudden you're making plays on Saturday.

Speaker 3 (01:11:06):
Yeah, there's something about a dog fight fight dog.

Speaker 5 (01:11:09):
Something something something, something much smarter than us would know that.

Speaker 2 (01:11:15):
Yeah, internal organ something like that heart size thing. Maybe
it's might me need medical attention if your heart's the
size of a dog or something too.

Speaker 4 (01:11:23):
But there you go.

Speaker 2 (01:11:24):
John Gore is our Decota Refrigeration player of the game,
well deserved for not really the punt return, but also
a great touchdown later on when he caught that one
and goes all the way in. The comparison thing is
interesting because you bring up Brian Smith. I think a
lot of fans that would make a lot of sense, right,
that comparison from a size standpoint. I also think of
Jared Samuelson for NBSU basketball men's basketball for years. Jared

(01:11:44):
would walk in and even the coaches have said this themselves.
Brown when you asked him he was on on staff
at the time, obviously Dave Richmond, it was, man, he's
not not looks, doesn't let the part, all right, he
just walks in and you're unassuming, like this guy is
not going to be good. And then he just can't
five threes on you in the entirety of that game.
And he bodies up and plays great defense in the
post when he gets mismatched on the big guy, steals

(01:12:07):
the ball away from you, just does the things right.

Speaker 3 (01:12:09):
Yeah, And you could see the sideline with how crazy
they went with the touchdown, Like you could tell, all right,
everyone feels that. And that's another one of those excitement
pieces that you can't coach, that kind of excitement, Like
a dude that's just gonna do things like that gets
everybody excited.

Speaker 18 (01:12:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:12:23):
I mean, we gotta get Jaden Price on the show,
and I asked him about how it was like Garden
Johnny Gores on Scout team last year.

Speaker 3 (01:12:28):
I mean, he gave us headaches, run under in circles.

Speaker 7 (01:12:31):
Oh my gosh, there you go.

Speaker 2 (01:12:33):
And yes, he gets the win fifty two to three
over at Tennessee State. They go look at some of
the other scores going on right now as well as
you look in the Valley and DSU. Obviously we're looking
at these teams in our conference. You've got und right
now down twenty four to seven. That game is at
half up in grand fourth to the hilarius in it.
To your point now, Jay that you made earlier, down

(01:12:53):
twenty four to seven, starting to get to that point
where you can't just run the ball. You're gonna have
to make some plays and make some big plays happen
to get back into that game, if you you indeed.

Speaker 5 (01:13:01):
Yeah, it's going to be interesting to see. You know,
obviously they're going to change our game plan a little bit.
Come out in the second half and we'll see. If
you know, the Romfro kid, see what he's got. And
you know, I'm sure you know, being a North cot kid,
you know he obviously he's got a lot of pride.
He's a heck of a high school football player, right
and you know, we'll see what he's got here against
Montana in the.

Speaker 2 (01:13:17):
Second half, and then SDSU is at home against Incarnate Word.

Speaker 4 (01:13:20):
It was a what would that be?

Speaker 2 (01:13:23):
A thirteen point lead at one pointing out in Cornate
Word has pulled it back a little bit closer as
a seven point game, seventeen to tend issue with the
lead a minute twenty to go in the first half
of SDSU like I would say, dog dog fight. But
obviously at the one score game they have the ball
SDSU does on the Incarnate Word twenty two yard line.
You were at a minute twenty to place. They could
go up two scores at the end of the first half,

(01:13:43):
but a close game, they're still.

Speaker 3 (01:13:45):
I just don't see the jack Rabbits being the big
scary beast they've been in the last couple of years.
They have, don't don't get me wrong. They took care
of business.

Speaker 18 (01:13:52):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (01:13:52):
NDSU had been taking care of business for a decade.
Didn't matter who was there, come go. It's a different
beast now. Like last year we had talked about they
lost one player to the portals, like one one bunch
of six year a bunch of COVID six year, twenty seven.

Speaker 4 (01:14:08):
Year old dude.

Speaker 6 (01:14:09):
Nothing wrong with the old k But you.

Speaker 3 (01:14:12):
Know, that that builds cohesiveness, and they just had a
squad for a good forty eight months there that those
four years they just played really well.

Speaker 5 (01:14:21):
And interesting I saw there that that last run player
for South Coast State was Chase Mason, who's a little
bit of a Cole peyton S type backup Ganowski.

Speaker 6 (01:14:29):
He was a Nebraska baseball commit.

Speaker 2 (01:14:31):
Where they've said they're going to have some packages for this.

Speaker 5 (01:14:33):
He's a Him and Cole Payton are built. Obviously, Cole
Payton's way better at maybe he's a better player, just yeah, better,
but very similar type. You know, it'll be interesting see
how South Coast State uses him in their quarterback run
game this year.

Speaker 2 (01:14:45):
Yeah, one hundred percent. He will have some packages. He
saw there with the Gronowski obviously is he's starting quarterback.
Also a game going on right now, but a big ten,
big twelve game. A lot of folks here at Appleby
is very alert to this woe A big play happens,
And what happened in just a little while ago, Nebraska
put up another touchdown. It's now twenty one nothing Nebraska
over Colorado in that game, six twenty nine to go

(01:15:09):
in quarter number two, Colorado does have the bubb but
on their own thirty one yard line right now.

Speaker 5 (01:15:13):
So there goes Travis Hunter for thirty yards and then
Travis Hunter makes a really big and it's gonna be
Colorado all year.

Speaker 2 (01:15:19):
They're going to be in games that can get blown
out a lot. Although they are doing on twenty one
nothing right now, They're gonna be in games and win
some games because it should do order. And he's a
phenomenal athlete in the first round quarterback, and you got
Travis Hunter and Joe Horn as well, or Joe Horn's kid,
Jimmy Horn, I should say ye, who is a phenomenal,
super speedy wide receiver. They'll be in some games because
of that star power. But can they win games where
you've got a better defense are going against like they

(01:15:39):
have right now?

Speaker 3 (01:15:40):
Can you win games when Travis Hunters not on the field. Yeah, yeah,
because last year when he went out like what, he
went down fast, like literally, that is three players on
a team that you have to defend.

Speaker 18 (01:15:49):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (01:15:50):
By the way, Sderra Sanders in this game so far,
six of eleven sixty four yards, no touchdowns, one pick.
That's the stat line right now, and not able to
run the.

Speaker 3 (01:15:58):
Ball hangout they had to get up to beat the Bison.
If they had lost that game last week, half of
the half of that time would have been burnt to
the ground and the other half of the mountainside where
you know it spent Lee's You got to protect those.

Speaker 18 (01:16:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:16:11):
Yes, by the way, even be taking away the sack
yardage for Colorado right now, they'd have seven total rushing
yards right now they have eight carries for Native.

Speaker 7 (01:16:18):
Twenties and that in the sacks.

Speaker 5 (01:16:20):
That's gonna be a problem in college. If you can't
run the ball in college, you can get lotah.

Speaker 2 (01:16:24):
You've got to be able to at least make people
respect them a little bit. Right now, it's just, oh,
we can get them with four down linemen. We don't
need to do anything else to drop the rest of
you back in the coverage. So that's what's happening that
the Colorado Nebraska game. It's right now twenty one to
nothing on Nebraska with the lead over the Buffaloes, and yes,
who gets the win today over Tennessee State. Got the
next game coming up is etsu Fellas, they're gonna be

(01:16:45):
heading down to Johnson City, Tennessee.

Speaker 4 (01:16:47):
I'll try to sing there for you.

Speaker 2 (01:16:50):
And I know Mark in America will be hosting everyone
down there, So if you need a place to stay,
just find Mark in America.

Speaker 4 (01:16:55):
He'll he'll definitely give you a place that's five hundred.

Speaker 2 (01:17:01):
Yeah, everyone gets a welcome to stay at his complex
down there.

Speaker 4 (01:17:05):
As NDSU takes on e T s.

Speaker 2 (01:17:06):
U, they are winning and winning big in their game
today against u v A University of Virginia Wise not
uv A, but u v A y.

Speaker 6 (01:17:17):
Apparently not where you found out who.

Speaker 2 (01:17:19):
We found out is apparently the Cavaliers, which Chris was
not happy with that.

Speaker 3 (01:17:23):
How do you do that with an in state uv A?
And then you're like, it'd be like the Crookston.

Speaker 4 (01:17:27):
Gophers, right, that would be right.

Speaker 3 (01:17:29):
I mean it's the exact thing.

Speaker 4 (01:17:31):
It's like the Mayville State Bison.

Speaker 7 (01:17:34):
It just doesn't work.

Speaker 3 (01:17:35):
I don't know how you get away with being the Cavaliers.

Speaker 4 (01:17:37):
I'm right there with you.

Speaker 5 (01:17:39):
Maybe there's like a licensing deal where they get like
the stuff that uv A doesn't want for like clothing,
and they just send it to ubay.

Speaker 3 (01:17:47):
Is anything that's black and white again, Yeah, we'll take that.

Speaker 2 (01:17:51):
Uv A Wise not the oppoontent for NDSG. Next we
get Atsu are gonna be on the road down there
in Tennessee another game where NDSU will be heavily favored Etsu,
which go to a couple of years back. Last year
they were really rough. Fill in some rough times here.
What do you take away from this game? And you're
looking forward to to scene for next week, you.

Speaker 5 (01:18:08):
Know it's gonna be another one of those games. You
know it's gonna be about the Buys and the Bison
and I have a week of practice. Obviously, we're gonna
game plan, We're gonna we're gonna respect our opponent. We
always respect our opponent. Never underestimate who you're going to play.
But at the end of the day, Ken n SU
execute offensively, defensively, and special teams, all three phases, and
you know, we go out there, we do what we do,
will be just fine.

Speaker 3 (01:18:25):
And Etsu is one of those teams as you said,
that rise fall real fast. And you know can they
because was it two years ago we faced them.

Speaker 6 (01:18:33):
In the playoffs final?

Speaker 17 (01:18:35):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:18:35):
Yeah, so yeah, I mean there's a team like there's
something that had been there and some of those players
are still around. So yeah, go down there, like you said,
just take care of business, do it. Professional. Your first
you know, road trip away from now is the after
you get a win, right, yeah, after you get away
from because the Colorado thing that's different.

Speaker 2 (01:18:52):
That's it's just gonna be a road trip where're gonna
have to maybe create some of your own energy.

Speaker 4 (01:18:55):
To Like the color game was that was a event?

Speaker 5 (01:18:59):
Really Yeah, hopefully it's not like going to McComb, but
they could be close.

Speaker 18 (01:19:02):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (01:19:03):
By the way, twenty seven to three Ndsues win against
ETSU back there on December eleventh of twenty twenty one,
etsu is up sixty one to nothing on UVA ys.
Right now, they lost Week one at app State. Appalachian
State thirty eight to ten was the final in that
can They do have a first year head coach as well,
coming over from this Gardner Web and then last year

(01:19:24):
was the offensive line coach I believe at Arizona, so
the first year head coach there as well for Etsu. So,
but a year of some different coaches and I think
our coaches is trying to pull film off of Obviously,
Colorado had two new coordinators there. There was a new
coordinator for Tennessee State in this game as well. And
then you're going to have a couple of new coordinators
with a couple of games of film on them at

(01:19:45):
least for that game against Etsu next week down in
Johnson City, Think Another break will come back and wrap
things up here for you from Appleby's on Bison Hotline Next.

Time for more reaction from today's game, cur again as
your host Andy Rickoff.

Speaker 18 (01:23:34):
From Tyler tur Hark.

Speaker 13 (01:23:35):
Here's first ten I see play action paid pros to
the zone touchdown buys it.

Speaker 2 (01:23:40):
Okay, guess one.

Speaker 13 (01:23:42):
It's another first career touchdown, this time of Kai Collins,
the wide receiver from northman Cato, Minnesota. He hauls in
his first career Bison touchdown and ads on this buys
it demolition forty four nothing, thirteen thirty two to play

(01:24:02):
in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 2 (01:24:05):
Another one of the young receivers there for Dysu getting
his first touchdown of his career. McKay Collins on his
first reception, had that last year actually at us Bank
Stadium against Eastern Washington, but his first touchdown today for
the Buys and Makai Collins on the board there. He
ends up with that one catch for nineteen yards and
a score. Are there one of the young guys there

(01:24:27):
that maybe won't be as marquis as Bryce Lands throughout
the year, but I think McKay is gonna have a
player too this season for ends.

Speaker 3 (01:24:34):
There's a reason why we saw a ton of first
today is because there's a lot of players who are
It just wasn't the fifty two to three blowout.

Speaker 1 (01:24:40):
No, it was.

Speaker 3 (01:24:41):
There's just a lot of players that are having to
step up that have you maybe have never heard their
name before unless you're really deep in the rubism. And
that's what it's going to be. Every year is kind
of fun like that. You never know who that next
breakout player is going to be. And I think that's
why we saw a lot of that first today. It
was because you just have a lot of players who
are getting their first meaningful snaps.

Speaker 6 (01:24:59):
And unfortunately that's the landscape of college football right now.

Speaker 7 (01:25:01):
With the transfer.

Speaker 5 (01:25:02):
When we have a good guy like Eli Green, Like
I love the kid to death, but he's in a couple,
I would say, it's gonna come in and show him
the money.

Speaker 6 (01:25:08):
Garry maguire, see you later.

Speaker 5 (01:25:09):
Yeah, yeah, and so. And that's exciting though for the
young guys. He's a he was a highly recruited high
school athlet I think he had a case state offer
that we ended up. You know, we kept him here
later four star and you know he's a big body receiver.
He's able, like you know that Fade de Brice lands,
but Kai Collins another bide that can go up and
get that at the goal line. So it's gonna be
interesting to see you know how Paul sech how who's
that writer?

Speaker 6 (01:25:29):
Oh, coach Crutchley, how they use those pieces this year?

Speaker 3 (01:25:32):
And I think it's difficult that maybe you can speak
to this of the players that are highly recruited, players
that come in. It's not a rare situation to come
to NBSU and play as a freshman, but it is
pretty rare. I don't see a lot of it. How
difficult is it, Jake, for those players to keep the
focus on when you just came off of being the man,
this big recruit that all kinds of offers the second guessing,

(01:25:54):
how tough is that to keep players focused in on
you're gonna get your shot?

Speaker 6 (01:25:58):
Yeah, college football is very humbling.

Speaker 5 (01:26:00):
You come you come in, like you said, being a
highly recruited like you're the dude in high school, all
these stats and all of a sudden you come in.
You're in seventeen, eighteen year old that fall camp, but
going up against now with COVID twenty four year old,
twenty five year old men. So you know, it is tough,
but you know that's where you know, you lean on
those older guys and that's you know, the culture we
have at NBSHO. I think is second to none with

(01:26:20):
it's gonna be hard, no one. No one's saying it's
gonna be easy. But those guys, you know, at the
same time, it's it's not hard because I'm just gonna
be mean to you and don't like you. It's hard
because there's a standard here and we need you to
play at that at some point.

Speaker 7 (01:26:30):
Yeah, so that's.

Speaker 5 (01:26:31):
Gonna be on the older guys, you know, to bring
those guys along. You know, it's tough, and it's not
for everybody.

Speaker 6 (01:26:35):
It's not for everyone.

Speaker 5 (01:26:35):
There's a lot like it's college football is really really
really hard. So but it's the older guys, you know,
bring the young guys along. And then so you see
all these young guys, you know, he had what five
first touchdowns today, and then some guys on defense getting
their per section. So then it starts like okay, like
all this hard work and fall camp the year before
this year, like it starts.

Speaker 7 (01:26:53):
To pay off a little bit.

Speaker 5 (01:26:54):
And so props to those guys, you know, sticking with
it now making play. You can't beat baking plays on Saturday.
That's that's a pretty special feeling.

Speaker 2 (01:27:00):
Yeah, McKay collins first touchdown there and you brought up
the transfer portal, and sometimes I think the other you know,
flip side of it is the bigger school is the
transfer portal was affecting some of the younger players because
they just, oh, it was bringing three more seniors, you know, like, oh,
it's finally my chance. The guy in front of me graduated.
We're just going to transfer in three new juniors or something.

Speaker 3 (01:27:17):
You're like, what am I working for? I mean, so,
don't get me wrong. I love going to practice and
I love going to school at this big U. Yeah,
but at the same time, Yeah, if you're continually doing that,
it's got to seemingly go the other direction.

Speaker 2 (01:27:31):
At some point you think the school's like a NDSU,
maybe reap the benefits, right, But yeah, like the good players,
right they go, Maybe they don't get recruited. Maybe McKay
collins ten years ago, he's going to a Power five.
But now it's like, we don't need to go get
a receiver as a Freshmancers are going to bring these
transfers and that guy trick goes down to NDSU and
Byson can reap the benefits of that. There you go
and McKay collins getting that first touchdown of his career

(01:27:54):
along with John Gores, along with Bryce land about uh
the running back Marty Brown getting his first touchdown. This
else some youngsters getting out there for NDSU and score
on here as they win fifty two to three over
at Tennessee State. We got one more break to take,
so we'll take that break.

Speaker 34 (01:28:08):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:28:08):

Time for more reaction from today's game, cure a game
as your hosts Andy Rickoff.

Speaker 13 (01:31:49):
Here we go second down a goal from the three
Demison bringing a couple of receivers, but they punch them
in on either side of the line. Here's a snap
handoff Brown Round fighting his way Crown across the goal
line and he's been touchdown.

Speaker 2 (01:32:04):
Marty Brown touchdown.

Speaker 13 (01:32:07):
North Dakota State and for the first time in his
young career, the red shirt freshman Marty Brown scores a
touchdown and that gives the Bison a three score advantage
here in this home opener. A three yard rushing touchdown
for Brown and it's twenty to nothing INDISU with nine

(01:32:27):
thirty seven.

Speaker 4 (01:32:28):
To go in the half.

Speaker 2 (01:32:31):
And there you go, Marty Brown's first touchdown. The young
running back from Omaha we've up been very high on
coming into this season gets his first touchdown for NDSU
as they have a fifty two to three victory over
Tennessee State today. I think the future very bright for
Marty Brown is gonna be someone that will be a
big factor out of that backfield the season.

Speaker 3 (01:32:51):
I just love hearing Sam Niederman say touchdown Marty Brown.

Speaker 4 (01:32:54):
Yeah, does sound good?

Speaker 3 (01:32:56):
God, that's the alliteration, Like that's everything you hope for
in the name team, right, Like you were maimed to
score touchdowns if your last name is Brown. Touchdown Brown, right, God,
that's some touchdowns il opportunity.

Speaker 18 (01:33:09):
Okay, Roarers touchdown?

Speaker 4 (01:33:11):
Yeah, I think roars for Gores.

Speaker 3 (01:33:14):
Oh wait a minute, I think we're taking three percent
of Yay, we're doing too much.

Speaker 6 (01:33:19):
Work for Reutely.

Speaker 2 (01:33:20):
That's right, we are doing too much work for them.

just final thoughts for you, Jake on on this day

(01:33:42):
today for NDISU, it.

Speaker 5 (01:33:44):
Was a good day to be Bison. Every day is
a good day to be Bison. But no really excited
for the team we have this year, and I'm just
excited for the guys. Obviously that game against Colorado, we
do not have moral victories at NDSU. I'm going to
reiterate that. But for those guys to come back and respond,
you know, take care of business. Today was good and
you know, I'm excited. You know, we'll go down to

(01:34:04):
East Tennessee next week then come back for TAAs you know,
take care of business in both those games and then
the Missouri Valleys. The Missouri Valley it's the sec of
the SCS.

Speaker 7 (01:34:13):
Oh, it really is.

Speaker 6 (01:34:14):
I'm excited for this season.

Speaker 2 (01:34:15):
Any comments on the play today have one Gray Zabel.

Speaker 5 (01:34:19):
You know, Gray is a really really good football player.
He's held back a little bit by his mustache, yep.
But other than that, you know, he's locking it down
on the left side, and you know he's gonna do
it he needs to do. He's he's already approaching the
game with professionals and obviously we know he's he'll be
playing football on Sundays next year. But just the way
he prepares himself, the way he's a leader for the guys.
I'm one of my best friends.

Speaker 1 (01:34:40):
You know.

Speaker 6 (01:34:40):
He's a great dude, and it's fun to see him
on the sideline.

Speaker 2 (01:34:43):
You know, I wonder if he gets any trash talk
because of the mustache by opposing players.

Speaker 5 (01:34:48):
Oh, it's always tough as a defense as not that
this happened to me a lot, but it's tough as
a defensive end of trash talk a.

Speaker 6 (01:34:54):
Guy when he's laying on top of you because he
can't take to.

Speaker 3 (01:34:56):
But yeah, I wouldn't know because it didn't happen to
me a lot a lot, but I assume.

Speaker 2 (01:35:03):
Yeah, nice block mustache. Yeah, Chris, your your final thoughts
from a dominant win for and I'll.

Speaker 3 (01:35:11):
Start and the same way we started that everyone came
out healthy. I think the injury report is going to
come out clean this week and that's good to see
that nobody unexpectedly going to be missing any time. And
then yeah, again, wide receiver room was there were so
many receptions it kind of reminds me like of the
Buffalo Bills this year, like they had so like Diggs
is gone, all these like all these receptions.

Speaker 2 (01:35:34):
Are out there is going to have a huge year
this year.

Speaker 3 (01:35:41):
Well or as we call them Tommy Callahan in the
fantasy football world, if you know, you know heard anyway,
there was going to be a lot of receptions available
on this this Bison team. Stuff will got a lot
of them last weekend. This weekend, nine targets for Bryce Lance. Nine.
Nobody else had more than two. I don't want to
say you're locked into one player, but that's very locked

(01:36:03):
in on one player and making a point like let's
get this guy going. And it was good to see
him come out of the shadow of just being Trey
Lance's little brother, which you're kind of asking for when
you're still wearing the number five. Yeah, yes, but it
was good to see him show out today and play
really well. I hope that continues.

Speaker 7 (01:36:19):
Yeah, today was a.

Speaker 2 (01:36:21):
This was the future game. You got to see the
future of NDSU. I think for the last few years
has been some talk, you know, Buyson fans, fan boards, whatever,
of man the future. I don't know what's the next
wave of NDSU. Do we have anyone for the future here?
How full is the cupboard, so to speak? And there's
been some questions about that. I think we've realized now, okay,
the cupboard's not fair.

Speaker 4 (01:36:40):
We've got guys for the future.

Speaker 13 (01:36:41):
You have after this next wave of guys graduate, you
do have guys like Mackay and Bryce and a few
others that are going to be able to keep this
thing going, which is the hardest thing to do when
college football continue greatness, which NDSU has been able to
do something.

Speaker 3 (01:36:53):
And also now we've got fire, fire, fire, What do
we think?

Speaker 2 (01:36:57):
What do you think of the new entrance today?

Speaker 4 (01:37:01):
No helmet?

Speaker 3 (01:37:02):
It was okay, I set my bar way too high.
I was expecting like someone to drop from the ceiling
or something.

Speaker 6 (01:37:08):
I was thinking, like kiss concert.

Speaker 3 (01:37:09):
Yeah, but I do appreciate the pyrotechnics. I appreciate, you know,
the change for the sake of change. In my business,
I hear it all the time. We got a change
for the sake of change, And I'm like, I don't
want to change. It works so well, that like right,
But at the same time, if you're not changing, you're
falling behind. So I think that NBSU. Let's try some things.
Let's see what works. I like the walk today with

(01:37:30):
the team at noon, you know, I like all those Yeah,
I like all those things. Let's try something new, just
for the sake of change.

Speaker 7 (01:37:37):
Let's see.

Speaker 6 (01:37:38):
Let's get weird.

Speaker 3 (01:37:39):
Yeah, let's get a little weird.

Speaker 4 (01:37:40):
Let's see what happened to the takeline for Bison Hotline.

Speaker 2 (01:37:43):
Let's get let's get weird. We did post the entrance,
by the way on our Facebook page there on Bison
sixteen sixty. I can also see it theref you're listening
one or seven point nine the Fox, and some people
are saying it would be perfect if we could still
see the team walk out of the locker room. That's
the one critique I had I thought it was great.
I loved the fire and different fun and it's changed
up a little bit. I will say it's still love
to see them walking out of the locker room.

Speaker 5 (01:38:04):
I think there's a little technical difficulties with that today
because the cameraman was behind there, but I'm not I
think there was a camera back. Yeah, see it can
game one. I think there's a little kind of well,
we'll see how it is against Top and.

Speaker 4 (01:38:14):
So continue to improve it. Game went at home for
everybody every day.

Speaker 7 (01:38:18):
That's right.

Speaker 2 (01:38:19):
Some people saying if it wasn't broke, don't fix it.
I love the helmet. Some people saying I love the fire.
So obviously, like anything, there's split on both sides of
the argument, I guess, but it's going to stay the same.
I can tell everyone that it will stay the same.
I do think if we're going to continue the drum
thing with Thundar, we make it up.

Speaker 7 (01:38:34):
A little bit more.

Speaker 2 (01:38:35):
As a fan base, we can get better on knowing
our cardinal directions as well.

Speaker 3 (01:38:40):
We're asking people have been tail getting for five hours
in the sun to be on the.

Speaker 2 (01:38:43):
North side and in the north of the cell. I
don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:38:46):
I barely know what planning them on most of the
times after a five hour tail game, much less where
I'm at in relation to the compass and the dome. Right,
you're asking a lot of.

Speaker 2 (01:38:55):
It might be on the first time meeting the drum,
everybody say let's go, and then everyone's may we'll switch
it up.

Speaker 7 (01:39:01):
Yeah, we'll work on workshop all.

Speaker 6 (01:39:02):
We try to the vikings here with the school channel
little bit.

Speaker 2 (01:39:05):
I mean, I wouldn't be a post to.

Speaker 3 (01:39:06):
What I do like though, and it's kind of a
takeoff of it of the Iowa I O w A
like that and Kenneck. That was one of my most
memorable moments besides the wind and d SU right, like,
I kind of like.

Speaker 6 (01:39:19):
That, but that that's a lot of directions.

Speaker 3 (01:39:20):
Again, really we are way out over our skis on
this one way out of marketing department.

Speaker 2 (01:39:26):
Unless you're John Gores combining with the rors.

Speaker 3 (01:39:28):
I think they've got it.

Speaker 4 (01:39:29):
Yeah. NDSU wins at fifty two to three to day.
Next week they do take on e T s U.

Speaker 2 (01:39:35):
East Tennessee State is the opponent for nd s U,
and then they will return home in two weeks with
the homecoming game here at one o'clock against Towson because
of that, we are giving away two tickets to the
game against Towson. Chris, can I have you reach into
our giveaway box here? Shake it all up, James first time.

Speaker 4 (01:39:51):
Let's yeah, if anyone's gonna hate some.

Speaker 2 (01:39:56):
Next week NDSU at E T s U is a
four to thirty kick, by the way, so that means
our network coverage will start at three thirty. Local coverage
here on one of seven point nine. The Fox and
bis in sixteen sixty would start at I believe one
thirty for that game, and on Bison sixteen sixty alone,
it would start somewhere around ten thirty for the pregame

(01:40:16):
show coverage.

Speaker 4 (01:40:17):
Who was our winner here for this game for the next.

Speaker 6 (01:40:19):
Week and our winner for the Towson game is a
Madeline sten Seth. There you go, There you go, Madelin.

Speaker 3 (01:40:25):
Congratulations, Well, congratulations, you're now in radio name. Out of
a bubble radio world.

Speaker 6 (01:40:31):
