Applebee's on sixteenth Street North. Here's Andy Rickoff.

Speaker 6 (04:36):
It goes into the episode. It's taken by GK. Marshall
three yards gam he runs inside of ten, fifteen, cutting
out side twenty. He's outside the numbers thirty five, forty
at the sideline, fifty beats the kicker there it goes
K Marshall by the opening kickoff, touched out Bison. He
ran it all the way back one hundred and two
yards and the Bison strike firs. And that one, Ladies

(05:01):
and gentlemen, was a precursor for how the day would go.
You'll always remember November, but you and I is hoping
they're gonna forget this one. Today is NDSU rolls to
another win, their ninth win in a row, taking down
the Panthers of Northern Iowa today forty two nineteen. Impressive
win again for ENDYSU. Welcome in here to Bison Hotline

(05:45):
one oh seven point nine. The Fox dominant win once
again for ENDYSU. I will open it up to the
floor here, gentlemen. Jake your takeaway from another dominant win
for the herd.

Speaker 14 (05:54):
Yeah, you know, just kind of how we talked in
the pregame show. Just anyc went out and did what
we knew they had to do. You know, don't the
ball over defense, get off the field. Special teams, just
be special teams. Don't do anything crazy, no block punts,
no fake kicks, anything like that, and just go out
and obviously to start off the game with like you said,
off the least celebrated return touchdown and Farodome history beause
I think everyone.

Speaker 6 (06:14):
Teams were special off.

Speaker 15 (06:15):
I think everyone saw that flag. It was like, oh,
it's coming back.

Speaker 14 (06:18):
And I don't think I've ever seen a flag get
picked up on a kickoff return.

Speaker 6 (06:22):
And by the way, it shouldn't have been picked up.
Pretty you know, we'll we'll take one.

Speaker 14 (06:28):
From the reps every once in a while we can
get it. But no, just a good win from the Bison.
And obviously you know the guys now will get a
week or going to a buy a week, which I
know we need badly right now. You know, even the
guys that are playing, get them healthy and kind of
ready for the stretch going into the playoffs.

Speaker 15 (06:41):
But uh, good win for the Bison, absolutely.

Speaker 5 (06:43):
I think my my first thought of this is that
this is now what ten in a row or elevens?
You and I I just uh. I like the win, obviously,
but I just miss I missed the juice that you
and I and NBSU used to bring. I miss the
punches being thrown. I missed the water treatment facility and

(07:04):
the you know, the.

Speaker 6 (07:05):
I wondered how long it would take you to say that.

Speaker 5 (07:09):
Comments. I just I just miss that And I just
don't know how you and I has lost their way
so deeply into the woods.

Speaker 10 (07:17):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (07:17):
The head coach is the same, A lot of the
coordinators have come and gone. I don't know if it's
the players. I don't know what it is, but it
is just it's kind of they've got passed by stsu
USD and the team up north right like they've gotten
passed by, like they're teetering on Western Illinois, Indiana.

Speaker 6 (07:38):
State, Southern Illinois at this point year right now.

Speaker 5 (07:44):
I just don't get it how that team was so
dominant for so many years and now has just become a.

Speaker 6 (07:52):
I wondered how long water treatment facility and like you said,
it was thirty seconds, but doesn't have the same Do
you say it with the same gusto you used to say?

Speaker 5 (07:59):
No, Because if this game would have been in u
at u and I I would have been there, right
except this year, I'm like, I'm not taking the seven
hour drive to.

Speaker 6 (08:08):
You know, it almost feels like you're kicking someone when
they're down. It doesn't have the same it does find
it used to.

Speaker 5 (08:13):
Again. Take the win, I'm happy about that, But I
really do miss what that used to be because they
were the rivals before SDSU finally had figured it out.

Speaker 6 (08:21):
Well, they were the standard when you came in, for sure,
you had to match what they were doing, right, And
now they're trying to just you know, come up with
some sort of matching of even Missouri State this year.
That's kind of the point that they are at, and
I'm with you, it was a lot more fun when
this was a game that you kind of circled on
the calendar every ye And to your point, they've NDSU
has won ten in a row in this rivalry, Well,
not a rivalry if it's one sided, right, That's what

(08:43):
we always saying right now, it's not a rivalry.

Speaker 15 (08:45):
And Donald's siline too.

Speaker 14 (08:46):
I was talking to Christian Uzzks for a little bit,
who obviously is a media guy with the Bison now
or in the athletic department, and he was like talking
about how he like, he's like, when is the last
time you and I had like because his senior year
was the last time I believe you and I beat
the bis And I was like, David Johnson and those
guys and Cedar, I think it was at Northern Illinois.
Northern I woad excuse me, but he's just saying like

(09:08):
kind of the same thing. We're talking, like what happened?

Speaker 15 (09:10):
Like where do you like? You got the same head coach?

Speaker 14 (09:12):
You know, so the head of the program is the
same it's always been, Like where was the disconnect at
and recruiting and strength.

Speaker 15 (09:19):
It's just it's gonna bewildering, like how do you go
from that to this?

Speaker 5 (09:23):
I think the only tie you can really put together
with this is once Chris Climbing left NDSU, it almost
like Farley gave up his will to live as a
coach in the Missouri Valley. I'm not I'm not even exaggerating.
I was serious about that. That once Chris left, like
that was the juice, Like he told Climbing, you're making

(09:44):
a huge mistake going NDSU, Climbing becomes Chris Climbing, And
once he left, it was like that's it.

Speaker 15 (09:52):
It's like the Batman lost Joker. The Joker lost Batman.
I think that if.

Speaker 5 (09:55):
You look at those games leading up to that, they
always would put up the fight. It would be a
twenty one seventeen game, not today.

Speaker 6 (10:04):
That's in the same we need to go take whoever
the defensive coordinators, you and I and then Gusto back.

Speaker 5 (10:09):
I remember Andre Martin was the defensive back now number
one number his fifth year came.

Speaker 6 (10:14):
To NBSU and he was like, oh, how dare he right?

Speaker 5 (10:18):
Anyway?

Speaker 6 (10:19):
I don't want to live in the past. Yeah, you're
saying it's a mistake to go there, and then the
guy eventually ends up at Kansas State. I literally was
a mistake. It was good.

Speaker 5 (10:25):
I think that was That was the end of Mark
Farley given a blank when it came to being a
head coach in the Missouri Valley.

Speaker 6 (10:32):
Yeah, you might not be completely wrong. Go look at
the parallels as well. It's been a couple of years.
I think there's a there's a lot of reasons for it,
and IL doesn't help a school like that when you've
got I one IWA State also in your same state
and only hours away from your campus. All that kind
of stuff adds up and we'll see what happens. Were
his future for this program's future, But bottom line is
they even close to NDSU, and the Bison proved that

(10:52):
once again on the football field. The best way to
prove it with a dominant victory here against the Panthers
forty two tonight teen. Cam Miller was special, Marty Brown
special again. But let's start with what that highlight was
off the jump getting a kickoff return. Definitely, I think
a block in the back on that one, but they
pick up the flag. Mark Farley was I right about
it on the sidelines if you watch him as a

(11:14):
precursor to how this one was gonna go. Andysu's offense
never really got stopped. This was a pretty dominant performance
on the offensive vent defensively for the most part. Definitely
a little bit of a lull that maybe in the
third quarter early fourth quarter, but buys An offense continues
to be special. Kambiller does what cam Miller does.

Speaker 5 (11:30):
I just don't see how you give up nineteen points
and all of the almost three hundred yards passing. I
was looking at the stats coming into today, they were
averaging one hundred and seventy three yards of passing per game.
They put up almost three hundred yards passing. Now, I
realize a lot of that was in doesn't matter time,
but at the same time it still matters. It was
a two score game in the second half, those those

(11:51):
yards still matter.

Speaker 15 (11:52):
Yeah, I was a little frustrated on the sideline.

Speaker 14 (11:55):
I think our two safeties, Darius Gibbons and Crumby, there's
definitely some plays out there that they wish they would
have made. And they're two young guys. And obviously, you
know Sam Young's down. Colesness was now ski when's he
coming back? Is he coming back? That's kind of yet
to be determined. But I thought those guys, you know,
they didn't have their best game.

Speaker 6 (12:12):
I mean, he did recover a fune.

Speaker 15 (12:13):
He did recover a fune.

Speaker 6 (12:13):
But yeah, I agree, you have to eat the passing
game a couple there's a.

Speaker 14 (12:15):
Couple of times in cover too where he's a little
late over the top to help his corner and stuff.

Speaker 15 (12:18):
But you know, at the end of the day, we
get the win. But like you said, there's definitely some
things that need to be fixed.

Speaker 6 (12:23):
I don't know. Ryan Jones didn't play a whole lot.
I thought he played had a big mass breakup. He
just went right through the tight end, right in his
hip and knocked the ball.

Speaker 14 (12:31):
So it'll be interesting, you know, kind of how they
use that. And obviously we're going to the bye week,
so I got somebod be a big time for those guys,
you know, get back and kind of work on you know,
day one NBSCU defense, kind of shore up some of
those things they might have been missing the day.

Speaker 6 (12:42):

Shackle Man in the shotgun gets your snap quarterback draw
right up the middle. He is tackling balls loose bow
on the ground. Do we have it looks like an asshift?
Does Taylor Crumby with a fuffle recovery a cold green
with another takeaway right at the doorstep Annetta. Of course,
the Crumby came up with the loose goose, and the

(18:02):
Bison stand strong. They keep Northern Iowa out of the
end zone. Welcome back into Bison Hotline here with you
live from Applebee's just north of the Fargo Dome. I
don't know about you, guys. I like the term that
Sam Neederman used there on that fumble recovery. He got
the loose goose.

Speaker 5 (18:18):
The loose goose goose. It does seem like those balls
are bouncing around over the place, like you're chasing a
wild bird.

Speaker 6 (18:25):
I've never tried to capture a loose goose, but I
would imagine it's somewhat similar.

Speaker 14 (18:28):
We go in western North course sometimes you wing a
bird and it's kind of just that the roosters are
jumping around out there, kind of.

Speaker 15 (18:36):
Loose goose like a Rockey Balboa.

Speaker 6 (18:38):
Well, Jaylen Crumby, I don't know if he pheasant hunts,
but he's able to get the loose goose dive on
top of her right there, his first career fumble recovery,
stepping in there at that safety position after Sam Young
went down against SDSU. I know we mentioned and I
agree with you, guys got beat a little bit. There
were some good tackles though, I thought in that I
think it was third quarter Crumby had a really good
tackle on Pesse Hickson in the open field and we

(18:59):
end up getting a up and yards where you tackled
them at that spot, and that's one on one safety
versus a really big running back. There were some good
tackles there. He had a fumble recovery as well. A
lot of room for growth still absolutely for these guys,
but they had made some nice plays as.

Speaker 15 (19:12):
Well, and that's one of the most positive things.

Speaker 14 (19:13):
Like you said, we're so young right now in the
backhund these guys that are playing and just to get
these reps and playing big time minutes like in the
early game, like I was. This was a big game
all the way to the fourth quarter. But just like
you said, just to get those guys reps and they're growing,
they're they're young guys. They know that they're gonna keep
getting better week in week out. They have a great
coach and coach Johnson, coach Climbing. You know, I'm not

(19:34):
worried about it.

Speaker 15 (19:35):
It's just some of.

Speaker 14 (19:35):
These times like Okay, Crumby and this is what we
have to see against Missouri State South Dakota.

Speaker 6 (19:40):
Okay, cover to today. You're a little late getting over
to help your safety.

Speaker 14 (19:44):
Yeah, next week are can you make that adjustment and
then get over and help with that.

Speaker 6 (19:48):
Next we get tested the last couple of weeks and
Missouri's take can throw the ball. Yep, absolutely it came.
Now you get a bye week as well to kind
of you know, rest up one, but also to work
on some of those things scouts stuff as well. Yep,
self scout a few things and fix it. But that
was a nice play. The thumber recovery when the game
was absolutely still in play was fourteen three at that point,
to recover a fumble and the Bison take it the

(20:08):
other way and to end up getting a touchdown making
it twenty one to three, and you failed at that
point like, okay, we should be able to not coast
the rest of the way, but you should be able
to see this one out. Now, that's at least up
twenty one to three and hopefully some more scores for
the offense. And that's exactly what happened is NDSU gets
to win forty two to nineteen over Northern Iowall. Let's
go to the phone lines. Call us up seven zero
one four seven six sixteen sixty. Scott in Fargo has

(20:32):
been holding on Scott, you're here with us on Buyson hotline.
What are your thoughts?

Speaker 18 (20:38):
Ah, this is Steve in Fargo.

Speaker 6 (20:40):
Oh Steve, Steve and Fargo. How you doing, sir?

Speaker 18 (20:44):
I'm doing great. After a game like that, one question
when you go back to you know what's happened to
you and I? My question is this the Dakota schools
have up their games so much. You and I used
to own the Gwinn Cities in Minnesota area and we're
able to pluck a lot of really good players, and
now the Dakota schools are grabbing them, and you and

(21:06):
I is like fifth fiddle almost.

Speaker 6 (21:10):
Yeah, that's a great point, Steve. We appreciate your call.
Any other thoughts before we let you.

Speaker 18 (21:14):
Go, other than I thought our young guys played really well.
This was great. Get more playing time for him, you know,
they got to learn from it and get a couple
of takeaways and not give the ball up is a
great way to play a football game.

Speaker 6 (21:29):
Absolutely right, they're with you. Thank you for the call.
There's Steve Indias who wins at forty two to nineteen,
and I agree with what he thought. They all give
you guys a chance as well. But I know I
talked with Brad Jones. I was on with him on
the Bison tailgate show, and he kind of asked me like, Okay,
why has it happened to you? And I like everyone's
asking that question, what has happened to this Panthers program?
And it's a BeVier things. I don't think you could
point to one thing. But the thing that Steve points

(21:51):
out is probably number one or two in my list
of what has happened to them is that, Yeah, they
used to basically get every player from the city's they
wanted other than the players that would go to the Gophers.
And if the Gophers didn't get someone. It's like, oh,
Northern I was a very good team. They're very competitive,
they're physical. They play Iowa Iowa State every year, so
they get some big games and they're gonna go there. Well,

(22:11):
now NDSU has become what they are. They get basically
everyone they want in the cities. SDSU's the same way
USD goes down there, UND goes down there. Oh and
by the way, now there's another D one school in
Saint Paul in Saint Thomas another Tommy's are non scholarship,
but for some kids that is an option to stay
close to home as well. I'm sure Saint Thomas gets
a couple of players here and there to go there

(22:32):
instead of maybe just going to Northern I where there's
definitely more recruiting competition in the cities.

Speaker 5 (22:36):
And if you look at you know, let's say the
past just ten years, right, since you and I maybe
was more of a powerful position, look at what the
other schools have done to leapfrog them. SDSU got a
brand new stadium more or less, right, So they got
a brand new stadium. They have an indoor practice for
the facility. NDSU with the Nodak Performance their indoor facility

(22:58):
is an off football performer complex exactly. So if you
don't keep up with those things real fast, you fall
behind real quick. If other people and other teams are
looking to make that jump. I don't know if you
and I is focused solely on.

Speaker 6 (23:13):
Basket, they.

Speaker 5 (23:17):
Updates to exactly, so you start to look at what
is it? Is it some of those little things. I
don't know if those things hurt you, but they for
sure if you don't have them, they will hurt you
when it comes to recruiting battle.

Speaker 14 (23:27):
And you kind of hear that obviously with like right
the big schools, like it's almost an arms race to see,
you know, who's got the newest uh cold tubs that
you walk in and all all this stuff that, like George,
but the same thing's happened at our level too, at
the sts right now, Like you said, like you and
I is kind of you go there to the water
treatment plan.

Speaker 26 (23:43):
It's awful.

Speaker 15 (23:44):
It's not great, it's you're not great.

Speaker 5 (23:46):
It's just you can if you've never been there, I
can't even tell you how bad it is.

Speaker 6 (23:50):
I called the women's basketball game there are two years
ago for NDSU women's basketball basketball arena, nice and it's
very are you up to date? And it looks good
and the good sound system and all the kind of stuff.
You walk Literally it's just down a hall. You walk
down the hall to the UNI Dome. You walk in
and I'm like, this just doesn't doesn't cut it. And
I think a lot of recruits do that too, because

(24:12):
the recruits in the cities that we're talking about here,
most of those players have their pick of the litter
of valley teams. Like they're all getting recruited. Anyone that's
getting recruited by NDUS, you was probably also getting recruited
by you and I s D, s U U, s D.
You can you can bet on it. Right. Well, you
walk into a game at the Fargo Dome and it's nice.
You walk into the Note Concerns Football Performance Complex, You're like, dang,
this is great stuff. You walk into the Uni Dome

(24:33):
and no, just is spreck But I don't think you
have that same feeling as a recruit, right and the
Fargo Dome is gonna get nicer exactly. Another potential is potential.

Speaker 5 (24:42):
If you want nice things, you gotta pay for nice things.
And you and I just doesn't seem like they have
tried to keep up with that angle, and I think
it's maybe a myriad of things, but let's just start
with what you've been able to keep up with that angle? Well, oh, no,
their angle, and I think too.

Speaker 14 (24:58):
Now, just with the landscape of college football, they kind
of fell behind and the arms raised, so.

Speaker 6 (25:02):
To say, at facilities.

Speaker 15 (25:03):
But now a facility is just a piece of the puzzle.

Speaker 14 (25:05):
Now you're getting into collectives and NIL, and I don't
know what you and I was doing with that, but
you already fell behind there a NDSU STSU like U
and d's even doing stuff up there with their facilities
like we have that. And then now the other piece
of the puzzle is the collective and NIL and all
that and how much money you're giving your plays and
stuff like that.

Speaker 15 (25:21):
So you and I just gotta worry about UK. Say
you're a recruit.

Speaker 14 (25:24):
Coming to visit there, your facilities aren't very good. So
then you're already behind the eight ball in these schools.
So then it's kind of and it kind of and
I don't.

Speaker 6 (25:30):
Know what they get for NIL with I one Iowa
State exactly hours away.

Speaker 5 (25:34):
Is it better to be proactive or reactive in life?
Proactive proactive that is That is exactly it is. If
you're going to try to react to what everyone else
is doing, you're already behind.

Speaker 15 (25:45):
And it pains me to say this because I don't
think it's the way it should be.

Speaker 6 (25:48):
It's the way it is now.

Speaker 14 (25:48):
And NDSU I am able to kind of do some
stuff with the football team and talk to recruits. But
in today's day and age, at the end of the day,
with it's it's kind of all about what can I get?

Speaker 15 (25:58):
What do you have for me?

Speaker 14 (25:59):
Not like back in the day, I was like, Okay,
you're gonna go to NDSU and get a great degree.
You're gonna be part of this community, this family that
is NDSU football, and you're gonna be in the NFL
Chesscow in the NFL. But now it's like, Okay, I'm
coming in. I'm a highly recruited Minneapolis City's kid. Okay,
well S CSU said I'm gonna get this. NDSU said,
I'm gonna get this. Scility's really that's like in the
back you gotta have it. But there's we're so far

(26:22):
gone from that now, Like if you don't even have
the facilities, you're not even in the ballpark.

Speaker 6 (26:26):
You're not even ballpark on the nil stuff either, So
there's some work to do there, no doubt. But I
also will say this, the Valley and FCS football are
good when Northern Iowas. Yes, I wish they can. I
hope they get back to what they were in the
twenty teens because when they've been good, I think that
ups the Valley. I think it ups the FCS. That's it.
Can you need to do as much as we make

(26:47):
fun of it because it needs a ton of upgrades.
When it's rocking and the fans really care, it can
be a tough place to play again, they just the
fans aren't the end of it. There's apathy right now
because the football program just hasn't been very good for
a little while. And NDSU wins this one. Forty nineteen
more calls on the phone line. Next go to Mark
in America, Chris Hansen's favorite caller every time we have

(27:09):
Bison hotline. He joins us here now, Mark, how are
you doing, sir?

Speaker 27 (27:13):
I'm doing good.

Speaker 6 (27:14):
All my questions are actually for Jake though, so Joy
should first.

Speaker 27 (27:22):
Off, And still Hansoon brought it up, and I was
listening as I was working in the backyard at house,
So can you kind of fill me in on what
happened in the third quarter as to where we gave
up those click sixteen points and was it, you know,
did we have second thirst things in or was it
still the first teamers? Also, can you actually introduce that

(27:44):
guy sitting to your right, because I've heard his voice before,
but it's been so long I can't remember. And then yeah,
the third thing, can we actually, hi, Chris, can we
actually stop referring to und and just refer to them
as the University of tige Jack because that's the way
they've been in the season.

Speaker 6 (28:05):
All Right, thanks for the call, appreciate it. Mark in America,
with his weekly cameo here on the Bison Hotline show,
Jake that the questions were for you, So.

Speaker 14 (28:15):
Yeah, no, I would say, obviously, no, it was still
the starters in And there is a little bit like,
as much as you try to stay away from it,
you go into the locker room up twenty eight twenty
eight three at a half time and it's a little
bit like and even I could you score after that?

Speaker 15 (28:27):
Yeah? And you and and yeah.

Speaker 14 (28:28):
You start out the third quarter, have a great first
and we always talk about, hey, let's go.

Speaker 15 (28:31):
We guess Andy hates this. Yes, start fast on the
third quarter.

Speaker 6 (28:35):
Yeah, I'm okay with that.

Speaker 15 (28:36):
Yeah, start fast.

Speaker 14 (28:37):
And the third tour, which they did obviously, You and
I tries a trick play, we get a sack there,
offense goes two plays, scores a touchdown, great catch by
Bryce Lance. But I definitely think there's a little bit
of a sigh of relief, a little bit like, Okay,
we got this, and then credit to you and I.

Speaker 15 (28:51):
There is still some a little bit of the old
You and I.

Speaker 14 (28:53):
I think we saw on the third quarter there a
little bit of fight and their I think their quarterbacks
actually not bad.

Speaker 6 (28:58):
And when he's young, he's gonna get better. He actually
looks like a piece for the future for them. They
got big receivers.

Speaker 14 (29:03):
He saw their receivers a big receivers may play their
left tackle Penny and he's a good player. I think
he was an All American last year. His brother obviously
starting right tackle for the Saints. So they had some
pieces there, and I think the defense collectively kind of
took a deep breath, and then once you kind of
take that deep breath, it's tough to oh, crap, you.

Speaker 15 (29:19):
And I comes out.

Speaker 14 (29:20):
They have the vision one players to come out, and
you know, they piece a little couple of drives together
and score some touchdowns. But in a close game, does
NDSU take I don't think so. Do we have to
look into it too much? No, I don't think so.
And then secondly, this is my good friend Chris Hansen. Yeah,
he joins us from time to time. Uh, he is
a Fargo native. But yeah, he's he's on the show today.

Speaker 6 (29:43):
I'm here immediately, Yeah, yeah, that's okay. We appreciate him. Nonetheless,
I'm right there with you. I think, Andy Su, you
have some lulls there a little bit. It felt like
there was a lull even in the fan base a bit.
People exits, but there was even tailgate that wasn't as
packed this morning.

Speaker 5 (30:02):
There was also a particular play in the third quarter
NDYSU had I think it was third and twelve and
on the west side down the sideline, the back judge
made a horrible pass interference, just not even in the
realm of possibility that that was past interference that keeps
their drive alive. They score there, they don't get that
call from that back judge along the sidelines, they're punting

(30:26):
and INDIASU goes on to cover and just roll them. Today,
but because you have that one play gives you a
little amendium that got them, like I think to the
thirty or thirty five that kept that drive alive. Those
kind of little things you're like in the grand scheme
of things, doesn't matter, but as the game flow is
going on, like that penalty was, and I kind of.

Speaker 14 (30:47):
I stand on the obviously the NDSU sideline down by
the kickers, just on them be the south side of
the field and the.

Speaker 6 (30:53):
Side judger that was directly across across.

Speaker 15 (30:55):
I kind of look at the referee on my side.
I kind of look. He looked at me.

Speaker 14 (31:00):
I'm like, p I that's not my side. I'm like,
kind of gave me the look like, yeah, I'm not sure.

Speaker 6 (31:04):
About that one little phantom call there down. I don't
have a few of that one.

Speaker 14 (31:09):
But he kind of gave me that look like I
don't know about that. I think he wanted to go home.
He was like, let's just get this game over.

Speaker 15 (31:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (31:14):
Less reviews and targeting reviews that were crazy today to
a whole bunch of stuff. I also say this, you
mentioned like Okay, hey, you and I still got d
one players. Like there's a little bit of that past
you and I fighting. There goes back to what I
said during Bison game day to day, like Murray State
was gonna beat themselves. You and I won't beat themselves.
If you let them have a chance, they can. They
can go out there and take it if you give
them a chance to do anything. At some point during

(31:36):
this game they were put away, but still go out
there make a play. I also got that two point
conversion a little tricker ration on it as well. Good
play by them. They're gonna make some plays. I think
their offense is okay, their problem right now, and it's
been all years. Defense can't stop anybody. I mean, teams
are just going up and down the field on them,
maybe seven yards at a clip or it's big plays
as well, but teams are going up and down and
scoring as much as they want. Let's go one more

(31:59):
call before you take a break. How about Bob in
South Dakota. Bob giving us a call here on Bison Hotline.
How you doing, sir, Good to have you back.

Speaker 26 (32:06):
Great? Great, First of all, thanks looking, I got it
made it fly enough to put it on my on
my head today and enjoy the rest of the game.
And I, you know, as somebody I respect one time said,
people are looking to see what you are before they
hear what you have to say. And so when you

(32:28):
look at you didn't when you look at Notre and I,
well they can talk to talk, but all somebody's got
a good dudes walk in there and look at that
dome and that tells them more about what they think
of their program than anything else. And when you also
look at the fact that Notre and I was in

(32:48):
between Iowa City and I will say, you know this right,
you know, and so that's gonna be that's gonna be big.
Different is too. But I talked to a lot of
my friends who unfortunately a Northern Iowa fan, and they
they've already toned, they're tuned out, been way through the season,

(33:11):
and they and they complain about the same thing. You
know that if you know, if you're not doing something
to better to make your to make your your your
stadium look better, uh, you're you're gonna be in trouble.
That's why it's so important for for everybody in York
Dakota to vote yes on this amendment and get and

(33:34):
get the and get it passed to where they can
add the seating and add the extra restrooms and do
all the things they want to do. And so this
is a clear chanst to keep to keep moving ahead,
to keep to keep being better, because seeing what you have,
you know, shows tells a lot more in a lot

(33:56):
of ways about how you care about your program.

Speaker 6 (34:00):
I'm right there with you, Bob. Thanks for the call.
I appreciate you giving us a call. Happy you got
the the hat there as well in the mail. Keep
on listening. We know you're listen very loyally down there
in Lennox, South. I appreciate you calling in today. Yes,
Gope buys in. Indeed right there with them. You know,
you got to keep up with the facilities. And like
I said, the basketball facility I think is good. I
think it's a bit of a basketball school right now.

(34:20):
They're really good men and women's there. That's good programs
down there. And Ben Jacobson, their head coaches, a heck
of a job with their men's program right now. Football
just isn't what they staring.

Speaker 14 (34:31):
Unfortunately, Ben Jacobs and I went to the same elementary
school Always Spirit up in North Fargo's life and what
you're doing with your You hear with us on Bison Hotline.

Speaker 6 (34:39):
You're sitting Andy and the guy that your left is
Mark and called them earlier today. A great call there
from Bob, absolutely right on all of it and definitely
right on measured one, voting yes on that one. Keep
moving forward, move forward there. Love what he had to
say on that stuff. I see Bill and Jim calling

Time for more reaction from today's game. During game is
your host Andy.

Speaker 6 (39:15):
Rickoff Miller class for the ball? Play action to Marshall
looking paid round So Lance for the end zone, chopping
up for the ball? What put down? Touchdown? Want to
catch by Bryce Lance twisting in the air one on
one Miller, what the throw a pade round touchdown fourteen yards?

(39:35):
Buys it twenty Northern Iowa three six fifty four to
go in the half. We have some tough decisions every
game here on Bison Hotline. One of them today is
deciding what's more impressive the opening kickoff return or that
catch by Bryce Lance. He gets the hand in the
hand on the ground, goes up with one hand, makes

(39:57):
the catch, the other one puts some inbounds. He makes
the touch down right there, ends up being his tenth
touchdown of the year at that point, putting NDSU up
twenty one to three. Heck of a catch. Great throw
as well by Cam, but a heck of a catch
by Bryce Lance, who is just becoming an absolute weapon.
It's no longer like, oh, he's a nice piece, Like
this guy consistently game in and game what you know

(40:17):
he's going to produce.

Speaker 5 (40:19):
I don't think I have said Trey Lance when I
met Bryce Lance right since the first game of the season,
and that's.

Speaker 6 (40:25):
We haven't even said brother of Treyler exactly.

Speaker 5 (40:28):
Like it's just and he has had to fight that obviously,
and that's fine, that's part of what his story is.
But I think that you're right, he has become that
guy that you know NDSU can go to. And with
Raja being not available for most of the season. I
think that he has become heads and shoulders the guy
that NDIASU. If if you need that, they're going.

Speaker 6 (40:47):
To him and Cam trust him. He throws it before
he's even open. He's anticipating it well in just a body.

Speaker 14 (40:51):
Control that Bryce had on that play to get like
and for those who don't know any so any other
body part other than your feet, like your hand counts
as two feet.

Speaker 15 (41:00):
They're just his body control to get that.

Speaker 14 (41:01):
Hit his hand down and I mean that's a next
level type play and sculpe in the air and kind
of contort his body.

Speaker 15 (41:06):
Awareness to get it exactly.

Speaker 6 (41:08):
That's just a heck of a play by Bryce Lance. Yeah,
crazy touchdown right there, put NDSU twenty one to three.
They go on to win this one in dominant fashion
again forty two to nineteen. All of our game day
coverage today of NDSU and Northern Iowa brought to you

sixty held up bill from Arizona giving us a call
bill all the way from Arizona. Were here with us
in far Ago on Bison hotline.

Speaker 18 (42:03):
All right, thanks for having me on. I just first,
I want to let you know how much I appreciate
Bison sixty and sixty. I've watched the game, but I
always turned the sound down and listened to the radio broadcast.

Speaker 6 (42:15):
Was a great job.

Speaker 18 (42:15):
Way to go, Yeah, I ads. I was the freshman
at NDSU in nineteen sixty five, the year Darryl Mudrow
won the or that won that polled Division two championship.
But I'm lamenting the loss of competition with you and I.

(42:35):
What really set the standard even back in nineteen sixty
three at DSU went oh and ten and that led
to Mudrus hiring, and the standard was you and I,
which I remember correctly won the championship in sixty four,
and so You and I has been a part of
our competition for sixty years, and maybe next to the

(42:55):
school up north, they were the second most racking game
to anticipate. I just I get I appreciate sixty sixty,
but I'm lamenting the loss of competition with U and I.

Speaker 6 (43:10):
So that's it right there with you, Bill, Yeah, thank
you for the call. Great call. This is a series
of dates back all the way to nineteen thirty eight.
They have played this series with Northern Iowa for quite
some time. Bison with the lead in the all time
series after today thirty one to twenty six, and they've
won ten straight. But this, yeah, it was a back
and forth affair, and really not even back and forth.
Northern Iowa was winning a lot of these games early on,

(43:32):
especially the D one era, but yeah, even in the
D two era, this team has always kind of been
the standard and NDSU was trying to replicate and they
have foreign exceeded those aspirations to try and replicate what
Northern Iowa had done. They have blown those out of
the water. And right now they have set the new
standard for sure.

Speaker 5 (43:49):
Yeah, if we think about you and I. You think
about they were also the one double A right like
with the Montana schools, right like that was always something
they had over NDSU un d SDS. That was always
the thing that those schools had, is that they were
that one double A. Right that was kind of al
was the thorn in the letters. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that

(44:10):
the D two is the forgotten about. Oh good for you,
you want a D two national championship. But he's absolutely right,
is that you want to see a little better competition
out of them, and it's I missed those days.

Speaker 15 (44:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 14 (44:21):
It's just a credit to to our administration, the coaches
that we've had, you know, to get us to this
point in NBSU football and DSCU athletics where we're able.

Speaker 15 (44:28):
To kind of make these comments and say, you know,
we're what they.

Speaker 6 (44:33):
Were they used to be. We are what they used
to be exactly better but better exactly like I said,
trying to get to what you and you and I was,
and they've blown that out of the water. Yeah, you
and I wasn't winning these kinds of times.

Speaker 14 (44:43):
Just a testament to our administration, are coaches, the players
that have came through on it. It's just it's just
awesome to see and you know, just uh yeah, it's
it's unfortunate that you know, you want to have these
good rivalries, you want to you want to have good
games in the fire Doom, you want to have good
away games, and you know, you know, like you said earlier,
like hopefully you and I can figure it out and
turn it around.

Speaker 15 (45:00):
But you know, we'll see.

Speaker 6 (45:01):
Let's go for the valley if they do, I think,
because right now, honestly, the Valley is kind of having
a down year for being completely honest about it, outside
of NDSUSDSU and USD a little bit down across the valley.
We'll touch on that throughout the rest of this program.
Let's go back to the phone lines, though, father Jim
calling us up. How are you doing, Jim? Great to
have you on with us, Sir, I am doing well.

Speaker 32 (45:21):
I just have go bisen a comment on you know,
the program NDSU has, and you talk about the recruiting,
you talk about what goes into it and how we
attain good quality players. But it's not just the facilities,
not just the collective, but it's also the coaches, and
we have to give kudos. It's never easy to win

(45:45):
in the Valley. The football league, regardless of whether you
and I has been in decline over the last few years,
it's never an easy win. And they got biggest guys
up for the game, They had everyone prepared and they
went and executed that. And those teams play, they follow
those coaches because they believe in them. And I think
we just have to give a great shout out to

(46:06):
all of our coaches and staff that makes things possible.
And that's all I got.

Speaker 6 (46:11):
Thanks for having me, Thank you for calling up Father Jim.
We appreciate that. I'll let you guys speak to that.
I got one thing to say to that call from
Father Jim. Amen.

Speaker 14 (46:18):
Amen, And I'll say for any of you guys who
don't know you talk about some of the unsung heroes
of the ndasuper program over the past you know, ten, fifteen,
twenty years, Father Meyer is our one of our chaplains
on the team. He's he travels with the team everywhere
he's at. He cooks meals first, he's an outstanding chef,
and you know, he's one of the guys that you know,
maybe doesn't get all the publicity. I think maybe informed
to a story.

Speaker 6 (46:36):
On him I didn't know about the chef part.

Speaker 14 (46:38):
Oh he's an outstanding chef and he cooks a lot
of our team meals and stuff like that. But uh,
father Meyer is one of those guys you know, he's
you can go to him no matter you know, what
the final score is. He's kind of one to He's
a players guy that you know, he's always got our back.
So thanks for the call, father Jim. But you know,
like you said, absolutely one hit the nail on the
head right there with just with our coaches and the
coaching staffs we've had from you know, you go back

(46:59):
to Rocky Hager, Craig Bowlla, coach Climban who just had
tough loss, but coach climb and coach and coach Paulis
like now he's We've been blessed with some awesome coaches.

Speaker 5 (47:09):
And I think the other one that is the constant
here is your least favorite coach until you're done playing.
Absolutely that's it's everyone's most hated coach until they're done
playing club.

Speaker 6 (47:19):
Asking the seniors what they think of him, and like
I came in here, I hate it.

Speaker 5 (47:22):
Oh of course, yeah, I think that he is another
one of those guys that you talk about who has
been there through the duration, him and Goose obviously on
the defensive side. Yeah, the coaches they keep changing out.
You see other schools lose coaches left and right and
things don't go right Indies, who's been able to hold
that up.

Speaker 6 (47:41):
With great coaches that have been great people as well.

Speaker 5 (47:44):
I think that that's one common thing that has been
there for the past ten to fifteen however many years.

Speaker 6 (47:50):
I think that you're Jim's right.

Speaker 5 (47:53):
Good coaches will do good thing.

Speaker 6 (47:54):
Not just head coaches, assistant coaches as well, and special
teams and strength of conditioning side like you said, and trainers.
They've they even blessed with really good people. And part
of that too, he goes back to the administration. You
want good people, They pay good people, they know what
it's gonna take, they fund it the right way, and
all of that leads to NDSU being as good as
they have been here for some time. Jake had another thought, Yeah,
and that's what like I've been.

Speaker 14 (48:15):
So I was obviously there for the climb and End's
coaching change, and I was still around because it happened
right after my senior year with the Ends to Paul.

Speaker 6 (48:21):
Second, this kudos to Matt Larson.

Speaker 14 (48:22):
Like one thing he always always mentioned, like he'll come
in and I'll talk with just the players, no coach.
He's like, guys, like, this program is bigger than anyone
else in the stream, is bigger than me.

Speaker 6 (48:31):
It's bigger than any coach.

Speaker 14 (48:32):
You know, when we're looking to hire from the outside,
whether it be an assistant coach, a head coach, like
we're bringing in someone that understands what this program is about,
understands the history the tradition of NDSU football, because we're
never going to sacrifice that for maybe a sexy coach
or someone else. Like, this person has to be the
right fit for NDSU, and I think, you know, Jean Taylor,
Matt Larson done a great job. You know, when they're

(48:53):
looking to make that new hire, maybe because those hires
could if that's the wrong hire, it could completely derail
what we have going here. But they've done a great
job of you know, finding that right fit that's going
to be. You know, you're coming to NDSU because it's
the n ASU Bison. There's no there's reason why we
don't have names on the back of our jersey exactly.
You're it's the Bison. The team, like old Bullsham Black,
the team, the team, the team. There's no one person

(49:14):
that will ever be bigger than the NDSU Bison football team, as.

Speaker 6 (49:17):
As the community as well, the exact big part of
this community for sure. So there's a lot of things
to go into. Hyndish's been as good as they have been.
That definitely is one of them. He's got a couple
of call calls in here again quick? How about John
and West Fargo giving us a call? John, great to
have you back on with us, sir out there in
the west side of town. What do you think about
this win for the Bison?

Speaker 33 (49:35):
Yeah, I get free questions, Okay, any idea how far
cam Miller's hometown is from Theedar Falls? And was he
recruited by you and I? Number two Phil Hanson has
tough grading on the team. I always enjoy his comments.
Do you agree with the way he grades the team?

(49:58):
And Number three, Hey, Bartley says, and I agree with him.
This team needs to go to the FBS. There's just
not much competition here. As you guys have been talking
about with Northern Iowa, I too don't know what the
world's happened to them. I compliment South Dakota stepping up.
So basically South Dakota the Jack and Indisu, So I

(50:23):
think it's time to move up.

Speaker 18 (50:25):
And then I suppose the number four is what the.

Speaker 33 (50:27):
World's going on in Iowa with Kirk Farrens and Mark Parley,
that they just keep these guys forever and ever they
don't seem to accomplish.

Speaker 18 (50:34):
But so I'll hang up and listen to you guys.

Speaker 6 (50:37):
Well, thank you, John, I appreciate the call. First off,
on cam Miller, we just checked it. We did a
crack team of investigators in our twenty five from Cedar
Falls to soul in Iowa, where cam Miller is from.
So yeah, I'm sure this one means a little something
extra for him. Maybe he had gone to You and
I games as a kid or as sure you know
family or friends that are You and I grads. I'm
sure in that part of the country.

Speaker 14 (50:57):
So he was heavily recruited by the Panthers. A lot
of his high school teams obviously extremely successful. He played
a lot of state championships in the Unidome or the
water treatment plant. Sorry, thank you, Yeah, but I know
definitely a big game for cam Miller.

Speaker 5 (51:09):
I think on the defensive point of his question. One
of the things when I was looking at some of
these numbers today, that one thing that jumped out, just
looking at team stats was yard after catch. NDSU today
was sixty nine yards after the catch. You and I
have one hundred and twenty eight yards after the catch. Jake,
you're a defensive guy, you'll agree with. I'm sure what

(51:31):
I'm about to say.

Speaker 6 (51:32):
That's not good, not great.

Speaker 5 (51:34):
That's a lot of mistackles.

Speaker 6 (51:35):
That's not a guy when they catches it.

Speaker 5 (51:38):
Yeah, that one hundred and twenty yards after the catch,
that's easily a two touchdown difference.

Speaker 15 (51:46):
Yeah, that's not good. And I think comes back to
you know, I think we we got better at it.

Speaker 14 (51:50):
It kind of showed kind of reared its head a
little bit today, just a little some mistackles by some
of the secondary and even there's a couple of times
DNS had guys where they could have kind of knocked
it down for a five yard game miss tackle goes
for fifteen.

Speaker 15 (52:01):
So I just gotta shore that up. And it just
comes down to leverage.

Speaker 6 (52:04):
For the most point.

Speaker 5 (52:05):
You can control, you can you can clean those things, yea.
You can take care of a lot of those things.
But if you're missing tackles, which we had problems with
in a couple of years past conference to you, yeah, yeah,
so that would be on the second part of that question.

Speaker 6 (52:17):
We said after Illinois State they had a great tackling day,
it's like, Okay, you passed this test, you got another one.
I'm not gonna I'm not gonna believe you until you
pass a couple of tests I thought they did. For
you know, the next four as well, with U n
D and Southern Illinois and SDSU and the Murray State.
I wouldn't say they passed this test. But the same way,
I don't give you automatic credit when you pass one test.
I'm not gonna automatically failure. Yeah, probably be failing one test. Okay, Now,

(52:41):
don't make this a trend. Yeah, you know, when you
come back after the bye week with Missouri State, make
sure you're tackling well. Don't give that kind of yarda
chapter after the catch. Especially that's the team that you
give up those kind of yards to them, they they
will throw it around. Jacob Clark is a very good quarterback.
They are passing very well.

Speaker 5 (52:55):
We'll turn that one twenty eight into two hundred on
your real fast.

Speaker 6 (52:58):
And we'll have plenty of time to get into Missouri State.
But to let everyone know, Missouri State not eligible for
the playoffs. Their last two games here in Fargo home
versus SDSU, that's a program that can't make the playoffs.
Those two games are their champions.

Speaker 5 (53:12):
They would love to commit.

Speaker 6 (53:14):
Back to back championship games for them. Want a chance
to win a Valley title for him and also a
chance to lob a torpedo into both the Jacks and
the Bison seasons. They would love nothing more than that,
So they're going to come out everything they can for
that game here in a couple of weeks. We do
have two more callers calling in right now. Before we
get to them, let's pause ten seconds for station identification.

A game is your host, Andy Rickoff.

Speaker 5 (58:32):
Miller gets a snap.

Speaker 6 (58:33):
Lordan Iowa rushes everybody thrown to the one corner of
the end zone. Henderson's got it Grayland with a touchdown.
Touchdown in the issue can Miller beating the blitz once again.
He floated into the left corner of the end zone.
Raylan Henderson won the catch, the captain with a touchdown
and the Bison squeeze in six more before half twenty

(58:57):
seven to three, good guys one forty seven to go
before the break, twenty eight to three after the extra point.
ANDSU gets the win over Northern Iowa today and they
get to a nine game winning streak forty two nineteen
the final in this one, Brayln Henderson I touchdown catch
right there. I've said it basically since about week two.

(59:17):
Fellas blitz cam Miller at your own risk, probably ain't
gonna work. They blitzed from the corner. He saw that,
and then they went right where the blitz came from.
Brayln broke that one off. The safety wasn't anywhere near
and that was basically that was pitch and catch for
a touchdown.

Speaker 14 (59:31):
And you have a linebacker in the slot on man
covers on Breilen Henderson wall Like you said, the safety
wasn't over the top.

Speaker 6 (59:37):
Yeah, that's not gonna go.

Speaker 5 (59:38):
Well, no, that's not. And again football one oh one,
where's the coverage lacking? Go right to that corner and
a beautiful throw of like all you had to all
you had to do is put his hands out like
it's right there in the bucket, you know, Like what
a great pass from Gama.

Speaker 6 (59:52):
And we've talked about the receiver position being so deep
for years, and some people nationally are like, Okay, you
talk about how deep it is, We don't really see
that though in the field. Now we're seeing it. When
you've got so many guys you can spread them up
four wide, and it's like, oh, you blitz from that guy.
That was a mistake because he's as good as the
number one for most of these teams. Brailin's that guy,
he's a captain, he's as good as most teams number one.

(01:00:13):
We know Bryce Lance is definitely the number one guy.
But you're spreading it four wide. With Brailn Henderson, Bryce Lance,
Mackay Collins and Chris Harris. You've got four really good
options out there. Is not playing right, So yeah, you're
in a pretty good spot, especially at that wide receiver position.
Here with you on Bison Hotline Live at Appleby has

NDSU Missouri State in two weeks time. As we got

can also call into the program and text us like
so many of you guys had were have. We will
get to all the text messages and phone calls tonight,
I promise you that, including one from Mike and Sue
Falls who was calling in right now. Mike, we appreciate

(01:00:56):
it you holding on and it was a long wait
for you, so we'll give you some time here. What
are your thoughts on the win over the Panthers? Hey, yeah,
we we can make it out. We can hear you.

Speaker 21 (01:01:09):
Okay, Yeah, I forgot and I wanted to hear you
guys talk about probably the best part of the first down.
Definitely the best part of the first half is when
we turned on the U N d uh Indiana State.
So what I really wanted to hear first should and

(01:01:31):
two I want to hear what Chris Chris has to
say about that.

Speaker 6 (01:01:37):
Uh, thank you, Mike waiting online for that long just
to hear Christy just and he held that long. So
I'm gonna given. We're gonna give the man what he wanted. Chris,
your thoughts on you inded losing to Indiana State. I
don't know.

Speaker 5 (01:01:51):
Again, I'm old and I know this uh is uh
what used to all was big? The thing was the
vallor scoreboard. I don't even know I ballers involved or
you and a round anymore, but that was the thing
inside the Fargo Dome. So I can clearly remember on
the day years ago when this team lost and then
that team lost, and if NDYSU beat this team, then

(01:02:12):
NDYSU might become the number one team in the country.
Like I remember this like it was yesterday, and they're like,
and now look at the baller score and and Dan
Michael's on the PA would call out what the scores
were and I want to say it was Wafford or
somebody that had lost. And at that point NDSU fans
knew that. Now this is so long ago, this says

(01:02:32):
that we were going to become the number one team
in the country.

Speaker 6 (01:02:35):
And what a big deal that was at the time.

Speaker 5 (01:02:38):
That was so memorable to me of this move into
you know, where we're at and where we've already been.
But yeah, when you and D loses, NDSU fans win.

Speaker 6 (01:02:48):
Yep, they would have been a big cheer if we mentioned.

Speaker 5 (01:02:50):
If they would have been doing the scoreboard update like
that and that style where they you know, they'd always
be cause they this is before the video boards where
they rolled the scores.

Speaker 6 (01:02:58):
So this if you weren't looking on your phone, you
didn't know you relied on that.

Speaker 5 (01:03:02):
I really wish they'd done it a couple of two
three times. But nonetheless, I want to give Bubba the
lifetime contract. The monopoly is so not over in North
Dakota football. I think that we've got a firm grasp
on that. And yet, go ahead, Bubba, keep taking those
gout my first Division one offers and putting them on
the field and see how it works out for it.

Speaker 6 (01:03:23):
I have thirty five thirty one the final gets the
win in Tarat HOAt.

Speaker 5 (01:03:28):
It wants a tough place to play a lot of
teams going there and taking out You can't go into
terroa diise and come out with a win.

Speaker 6 (01:03:33):
It just doesn't happen that way.

Speaker 1 (01:03:35):
Girls.

Speaker 6 (01:03:35):
What the heck bit of terrandized. We'll get into it.
We'll get into the as we call it, the Jiffy
Luba Fargos score.

Speaker 5 (01:03:41):
I appreciate that one here to monster a.

Speaker 6 (01:03:43):
Little bit, as we do have all finals from the
valley today. We'll get to that and some other scores
around the FCS and the FBS in just a little bit.
But first, Mark from Argusville, giving us a call here
on Bizon hotline. Mark, thank you for calling in.

Speaker 38 (01:03:56):
How you doing, sir, Yeah, Carl, sorry about that?

Speaker 6 (01:04:00):
Sorry about that? Yeah, no worries. How you doing, Carl?

Speaker 18 (01:04:03):
Yeah? Hey, good.

Speaker 38 (01:04:04):
So we gave up a lot of yards today, a
lot of first downs, and we're going up a really
against a really good coach down there at South Dakota.
Bob Neilson's got a couple of national titles and he's
had our number a few times in the past. I
just I think some of these weaknesses he's going to
take advantage of, and that's going to be a hell

(01:04:27):
of a game in about three weeks.

Speaker 6 (01:04:28):
So right there with you, Carl, Thank you for the call,
appreciate you giving us are here from Argusville. Yeap, of course,
thanks for calling up. Sorry about the name change. We'll
get a guy nick back there. But these last two games,
to his point, like Missouri State thankfully get a bye
week before that one, and then USD in Vermilion, and
they want some retribution for happened there in the playoffs

(01:04:51):
last year. Yeah, these are going to be two very
very tough games. Thankfully a bye week before them to
end the season for NDSU.

Speaker 14 (01:04:58):
Yeah, you know, like you said, you know, coach Neielsen,
a us T does a great job. Obviously he's been
he was at Duluth with a lot of the guys
on our staff right now, and now he's obviously coaching
the Coyotes down there. Yeah, I mean, they're an extremely
well coached team. Aidan Bowman is probably one of the
better quarterbacks in the FCS. Travis Tyst their running back,
is an extremes. He's legit, he's probably the most physical runner,
honestly in the FCS. He's he's hurt a little bit. Yeah,

(01:05:22):
he's a dude. But like you said, that's gonna be
a heck of a ball game down in Vermillion. And obviously,
you know, depending on what happens with STSU, obviously they
have to win their next two, but that'll be a
with playoff seating implications will be very heavy with.

Speaker 5 (01:05:35):
Yeah, that could be whether or not indust who wins
the conference by themselves or maybe has to share it
with the USD. So that would be a conference championship
kind of caliber game. And I tell you Bauman is
a much better quarterback than what you and I trotted
out there today.

Speaker 6 (01:05:50):
And if the if you don't wasn't terrible, No, but
he's not Bowman.

Speaker 5 (01:05:54):
And if you don't do it, if you today, if
they with only one sack, not a lot of hurries,
not a lot of pressure. I realized the offense had
him sprinting out and throwing quick passes.

Speaker 6 (01:06:03):
That's that's different.

Speaker 5 (01:06:04):
But at the same time, if you don't put that
pressure on him and you have young defensive backs, you
can be in for a long afternoon.

Speaker 14 (01:06:10):
And that's the one thing with Baluman that I think
kind of bolds and Endsu's favorite. He is extremely not mobile.
He he cannot get outside of the pocket. Iways he's
a leftiest. That kind of is a little different, but
we have We're used to plaint against Cole Payton on
scout team or on uh in fall camp, but in
Baluman is not very mobile. So I think that helps
us out. I think you and I was able to,
like you said, get that guy out in space a
little bit.

Speaker 15 (01:06:31):
And he was a good athlete. But uh, yeah, it's
gonna be a heck of a game down of a million.

Speaker 39 (01:06:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (01:06:35):
USD is a very good team. I don't want to
overlook Missouri State, but he he called in about Bob Nielsen.
Very good coach. I think they've had, Like last year
was a good year. This year was like, okay, do
it again. If you haven't seen you do it in
back to back years, it's usually make the playoffs, miss
the playoffs. Right now, they're going to make the playoffs.
This year they were a play away and frankly should
have beat STSU. I thought they was a bad play themselves,
quite honestly. Otherwise they probably win that game in Brookings.

(01:06:56):
And how good is their running game? Well, they've got
the top two rushers in the valley right now. That's
Travis Tice five hundred and ninety six yards averaging eighty
five point one a game, and then Charles Pierre Junior,
and then you don't know as well yet he is
very very good, averaging eighty eight point four yards per
game right now and has seven hundred and seven yards
on the ground in eight games one hundred and nine attempts.

(01:07:17):
He's also extremely good. They've got the top two runners
in per game average right now in the valley in
that backbuild for USD. So it's gonna be a tough
test for this NDSU defense when you go down to Vermillion,
and if everything goes the way it's trending, that's gonna
be for a Valley Championship potentially, And honestly, I mean
it could be for a top two seed. I mean
USU wins out, like if they win against NDSU, they'd

(01:07:38):
have a right to a top two seed, depending on
what happens with SDSU as well. But it's gonna be
coming down to the wire here these last couple of weeks.
It's a good thing in NDISU has the bye week
before we get to that point. We do have some
more text messages coming in here. It's to get to
a couple of those here, since we've had so many
throughout the program. Haven't got a chance to touch on
those yet because of the phone calls. The first one
from Steve actually on this same topic says USD as

(01:08:01):
the best coach in the conference. Bob Nilsson a heck
of a coach and been around there for quite some time.
I won't know if I go quite as far as
best coach in the conference, because again I just haven't
had that stellar year of a super deep playoff run
or anything like that. I think you gotta give some
respect to what Jimmy Rodgers has done, and of course
we love Tim paulis there in his first year at DSU.
Been some good coaches. I think Nick Hills also a

(01:08:22):
really good coach at Sothern Illinois. But no doubt Bob
Nilssen's got plenty of credentials. He knows what he's doing
down there. And I love that you still got the
suit and tie on.

Speaker 5 (01:08:28):
Yeah, old school like that. That's so so cool. Him
and PJ I think are the last two.

Speaker 6 (01:08:34):
Yeah, it's got that coach.

Speaker 15 (01:08:36):
I would not wear a tie. That's that's gotta be
so stuck.

Speaker 6 (01:08:39):
The blood pressure is.

Speaker 5 (01:08:40):
It's already hard enough to get your brain going when
your neck is all inflamed and going crazy. I don't
know about having that tie on, man, I think that
they could be ripped off halfway.

Speaker 6 (01:08:50):
Wearing a tie.

Speaker 14 (01:08:52):
It would be a good like prop though, and you're
like yelling at a player, like get your tie off,
like when they see a basketball coach.

Speaker 6 (01:08:56):
I liked throw a suit coat like yeah, yeah, or.

Speaker 15 (01:08:58):
Patino used to always do that, and like throw a
suit coder on.

Speaker 6 (01:09:01):
I don't know, it's there.

Speaker 26 (01:09:04):
You go.

Speaker 6 (01:09:04):
Thoughts on that one. Also, we got Pete and Fergus
Falls his hometown. Refs help. Hey, finally we have one
for people saying the refs helped us. Who's the every game?
That's how terrible the refs were in the first play. Yeah,
perhaps got it, you know a little. I wouldn't say
a makeup call, but even out because of that passion, Eferance,
I agree with you, Chris. Probably not really a passion

(01:09:24):
of friends, at least I didn't think.

Speaker 4 (01:09:26):
So.

Speaker 6 (01:09:26):
That's the thoughts from Pete in Fergus Falls. He's been
quiet since NDS you beat STS. You haven't heard from
Pete since then. I don't know why that happened. Harold.
Do you guys know it's National Bison Day today? Hey?
Were you guys aware of I was not aware of
National Day today. It's a good day for the Bison.
It's a good day to have National Bison Day. I
will look into that one for you if I can.

(01:09:47):
But thank you for the heads up there, Harold on that,
and then Darling Jean says, I'm completely with Chris about
Northern Iowa. I don't get it either. Hopefully their new
ad will have some answers. There is a new athletic
director that took over a think back earlier in the summer,
and so, yeah, it's gonna be probably some changes, some
different things that will happen. Maybe this sparks more funding
or different things for the programs as well. We'll see

(01:10:09):
what happens these next couple of years. The beatings will
continue until morale improves.

Speaker 5 (01:10:14):
Yes, we'll play right, Yes, like that seems like what's
going on there prove let's back up and look at
what might be going on, Like you're really sure you
want to continue the path you're on because it doesn't
seem to be a good one.

Speaker 6 (01:10:29):
Let's definitely say that to Murray State. Sure, you came
in there here, I don't know if it's the right decision.

Speaker 14 (01:10:34):
Well, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing
over and over again and expecting different results. We spend
eleven times in our own now, you and I like
getting close to that. Yeah, and yeah, ten in a row.

Speaker 6 (01:10:48):
It's not a rivalry if it's a one side expens
every time type of rivalry. It's just not right now.
And unfortunately for Northern Iowa and Gus you just keep
some winning. Not unfortunate for us. We'll take the wins. Absolutely,
we're getting a lot of wins over a lot of teams,
and hopefully a few more to end the year. We'll
take a break here, we'll come back. We give you
our cool performer of the game, and we come back
next to You're on Biyson Hotline.

Speaker 1 (01:15:06):
Who made the difference today for the Bison. This is
the Dakota Refrigeration player of the game.

Speaker 6 (01:15:13):
We're up seven to three. First and goal from the
five I formation tossed to Brown off right tackle. Marty
bounces off one, drives off a second gets into the
episode touchdown Bison Marty Brown into the enisode five yard
rushing score. He finishes it off all himself and NDSU

(01:15:33):
jumps out to a two score lead. It's thirteen to
three with fifty eight seconds to play in the first quarter.
Marty Brown just continues to be impressive game after game
here for India see week. Came into this week as
a leading rusher amongst all freshmen in all of Division
one FCSFBS, and I think you widen that lead today

(01:15:55):
as he has another phenomenal day on the ground. Eighteen
carries one to twenty four and that touchdo on you
heard right there? Average of six point nine per Carrie
had the long of twenty five on that fourth and
two close, and then he got tackled right at the
five yard line, but he was able to finish it off.
At the very least. He's having a heck of a season.

Speaker 5 (01:16:14):
At what point, you know, you gotta you gotta get
the hype train. You gotta keep putting in the engine.
Did we just keep saying Jerry Rice Award winner front runner?
You know every time you hear Travis Hunter there, I
was like, Heisman front runner, and that's the.

Speaker 15 (01:16:27):
Thing we got to start.

Speaker 6 (01:16:28):
We gotta start that with him and with Cam. In
the half time highlights, I made sure I said, you know,
Cam Miller or Walter Payton, Awa, See that's what I'm
talking about. What I said, didn't say front winer, but
I think I said, like a favorite.

Speaker 5 (01:16:39):
Yeah, yeah. If you want to keep that train running,
you got to feed it the cole. So I think
we do that for sure for the rest of the
season with with Jamar that we keep pumping that is
that he is the Jerry Rice Award winner front runner.

Speaker 6 (01:16:52):
Yes, yep, right there with the award front runner front
runner right now. He's also our dri cool performer of
the game, which is gonna the Jerry Rice But it
will help. I think the voters actually they'll put attention
to that. They should, they do do. The more they
hear it, the more they believe it. They're paying attention
right now. He is our dri Cool Performer of the game.
Dakota Refrigeration helps athletes succeed from behind the scenes, from

the training room to the dining room, from melk to medicine,
ice to ice cream. DRI has been serving Minnesota, Montana,
and the Dakotas for over forty years online at dakreff
dot com and Marty Browno. Though he's from Omaha, it's
definitely serving the Buyson offense quite well and the great
day for him. On the ground, shout out to Brica
Pennu as well. Seven carries twenty nine yards but two
rushing touchdowns, kept the hand on the ground, kept his

(01:17:38):
balance on that one, and got the one that really
kind of ice this thing for the Bison running the ball.
Thirty seven carries from seven different rushers in this one
one eighty nine three scores average.

Speaker 14 (01:17:48):
Of over five yards of carry and shout out TK Marshall,
who's also enjoying dinner with his family at Applebee's.

Speaker 6 (01:17:54):
Yeah, well, shout out TK. He can't hear me.

Speaker 15 (01:17:57):
He's behind us, but he's over there.

Speaker 5 (01:17:59):
I think something that was very noticeable today of not
being at Murray last week but being here this week,
was the noticeable absence. And I don't know if this
is self protection mode or what it is, but I
think the Bison QB run game is definitely going to
open up at least five to ten more carries per

(01:18:19):
game for those dudes that are behind him, because now.

Speaker 6 (01:18:22):
You're eight running kmilly one design quarterback running exactly.

Speaker 5 (01:18:26):
And it was funny I was thinking that during the
game and then on that wasn't a third down play
that I think he ran for the first down and
I remember thinking that, like, well, I suppose, yeah, they
just can't. I don't listen, Nathan, we got nothing against you,
but we want to keep this guy on both of
his feet. So I think that that is something that
you're gonna lean a little heavier for run game production
from the RBS.

Speaker 6 (01:18:48):
Runs from Nathan Hayes, Brady Wavroneck getting in there, Kelly
Watson as well, so some other guys getting a few
carries in there. TK Marshall, by the way, five carries
nineteen yards average a three point eight to carry that. Well,
at the job done three point eight. You do that
every a single play, you're gonna get a first down.

Speaker 15 (01:19:01):
That's works.

Speaker 6 (01:19:02):
That's how math works. I'm not good at it, but
I'm sure that's how that one works. There for you again,
call or text seven zero one four seven six sixteen sixty.
We have another gentleman calling in right now. It's Lee
in Fargo. Lee, you're here with us on buys On hotline.
How you doing, sir?

Speaker 26 (01:19:19):
Good?

Speaker 21 (01:19:20):
Explain we had fourth down and four and we were
gonna punt and their defensive right n or so jumped
and they called that delay of game.

Speaker 18 (01:19:30):
Can you explain that call?

Speaker 5 (01:19:32):
Well?

Speaker 26 (01:19:33):
Why they called it that way?

Speaker 6 (01:19:35):
Yes, thank you, Lee, appreciate the call absolutely, and just
ironically enough, Tony and Fargo also asked the same thing,
Can you explain the delay of game penalty on the punt?
We got a first down out of it, which is
obviously a good thing. What they said on the broadcast
was he lined up basically in the neutral zone, causing
the offensive line to jump. So the offensive line jumping there,
I guess you could have just called it neutral zone
infraction or whatever it was. He also right over the

(01:19:57):
snapper right over. No, I don't think he was that
for the snappers more the end of the line. But
because of that, it ends up being at the delay
of game.

Speaker 15 (01:20:03):
JA better.

Speaker 14 (01:20:04):
Yeah, So essentially, so any seeing hard count fourth and
four right, we're kind of taught, you know, if you
can get them to jump and then once they're because
the only reason it's called delay a game is just
with the special teams because aspect of it causing Bryce
Lance to then react to the defensive player coming in
the neutral zone. That's something that's taught by UH coach
Gazer runs the punt team, and that's like one of
the things like you know, if we get one of

(01:20:25):
those situations where five years we have the first down,
will go on a hard count with us. So even
even in punt formation, so Truman, where Meyer is the
call guy in the punt you'll see him in the shield.
He's the guy that kind of when we need to
bring guys down or based on the defensive front, he'll
kind of set set the punt team up. So he
gets a cadences like Nike Nike forty five forty five
second and they jumped Bryce Lance moves.

Speaker 6 (01:20:48):
That's how you get the doll. Okay, if somebody goes
into the neutrals one, you're top move because now they
blow it dead and you get the first.

Speaker 5 (01:20:54):
And then because because of the special team of getting
the instead of you know, like an off side or
a coach for whatever it might be. That's the difference
of specialty. Yes, you special team, special players, special.

Speaker 6 (01:21:06):
Special love that we have this special player right here
to explain that's right, that's why he's here. Absolutely. Steve
also texting, and Bob Nilssen is the best head coach. Okay,
people people love Bob Newsen. I love Bob News. He's
a great coach. He is a phenomenal, very good guy.
For that from all the coaches here at NDSU, Chris
Climb and raved about him. Matt Ens was a I
mean coach coach. Under played for him as a player

(01:21:27):
to coach coach with him. There's a lot of connections
of coach Bob Nilssen here to NDSU. And I'm sure
when we get to that week, which is still three
weeks away, that we'll talk with coach Paul second Hope.
Nothing but good things to say about Bob News great coach,
great dude, and they're having a really good season. It's
going to be a heck of a game down there
in Vermilion. Also, Paul and avon South Dakota text one

(01:21:48):
in here a little bit of a longer message. I
would like to see one time not to go out
of the shotgun on third or fourth and short. I
realized that today they didn't want Cam to run, but
we missed that at least two short yards against sd
ISSU watch the Eagles in the NFL horns up from
Paul and avon South Dakota. PS. We drove five hours
for this game. While there is no reason we can't

(01:22:09):
fill the dome for Senior Day. They deserve the support.
And I agree with you there, Paul.

Speaker 15 (01:22:13):
Yeah, I was.

Speaker 6 (01:22:14):
I scratched my hand a little bit too.

Speaker 14 (01:22:15):
You didn't get that one fourth and fourth in inches
or fourth and short, like getting get under center.

Speaker 6 (01:22:20):
QB sneak is so hard to stop. Yeah, it is
so hard to stop.

Speaker 15 (01:22:23):
And I know we're worried about Cam and we want
Camas stay healthy. So I get that. So I understand
whether I have the first down or Cam the rest.

Speaker 14 (01:22:29):
Yeah, and with QB sneak, there is a lot opportunity
for Cam to get rolled up on just because there's
twenty two big, big, big dudes, sorry, big dudes coming at.

Speaker 6 (01:22:39):
Each other, So there is an opportunity for Cam get
rolled up.

Speaker 5 (01:22:42):
It seems in your logical brain, I need about eighteen
inches is all. It was, right, a foot to eighteen inches.
But I'm gonna stand seventy two to eighty inches back
from where I need to be and then hand it
to somebody else, and you know, it just doesn't count.

Speaker 6 (01:23:00):
Productive, say on the quarterback sneak part of it. You know,
fourth and inches to us up in the stands, it's like, ah,
it's easy. When did you get down there? And you're yeah,
yeah right.

Speaker 5 (01:23:07):
A little further after the game, in his postgame interview
with Gindor if I noticed, he was like, yeah, that
fourth down call, that's on me. That was not a
good call. I should have maybe done something different, like
he immediately you.

Speaker 6 (01:23:18):
Know, yeah, it was what it was when this game
it wasn't gonna cost you, right, So I'm okay, if
you're not having Cameron in that situation, maybe be under center,
but you hand it off to one of her running
backs with a full back in front of him, I'm
okay with that too. I mean Patrick Mahomes never takes
a quarterback sneak anymore. The Chiefs seemed to pick up
their fourth and inch is just fine too. Have Travis
Kelcey to do it? Yeah, all right, you can. Joe

(01:23:39):
Stuffle take the snap under center.

Speaker 5 (01:23:41):
Must stuff some nice catches to the double.

Speaker 6 (01:23:44):
Last week we got the huge win over Murray's day.
We blew him out. Everyone's a tight end. Why won't
we use on the tight end? We were upset about
that as a fan base. I guess uh.

Speaker 5 (01:23:53):
I mean they're not catching like elves and tight end
type numbers here, but still at the same time, timely
catches from the.

Speaker 6 (01:23:59):
It was a couple of week he didn't have any
catches with the day he had two for thirty eight.
So there you go.

Speaker 5 (01:24:03):
He's back and or, as my daughter calls him, mister Stuffle,
because he was he's a p he's a pas and
he was at Discovery Middle School. He was her student teachers,
like we've got some Bison player. He's got a really
weird last name. That is our our student teacher this semester.
So a couple of years ago he was mister Stuffle,
mister Stuff she was and she was in the game

(01:24:23):
with me today She's like, Hey, that was my that
was my teacher, Like, yeah, that's that's him there. H.
Mister Stuff definitely put a memory in there, like yeah, right,
he'll be a mister Stuffle in his pro career here
in a couple of years.

Speaker 6 (01:24:36):
So it's be a pretty good pe teacher. Everyone remembers
him for that one. Joseph two catches thirty eight yards today,
eight different receivers getting the catch. I think that again
plays into the fact that he wasn't involved the last
couple of weeks because he's got so many different guys
you can get the ball to. Shout out to Cayden
z en Zen as well today like the young fellow,
young tight end brother of hunters Enzen with one reception
for seventeen yards today, also t K Marshall with the catch,

(01:24:58):
Tyler Tarr Hark would do, Chris Harris would two more today.
He's been a fixture here lately. Joe Stuffa with two,
Barrika with three, Brilin Henderson with three for thirty eight
in a score and of course Price lands four reception
seventy seven yards and a touchdown for Indie issue, all
part of their dominant forty two to nineteen win over
Northern Iowa. Let's get one more text here before we

(01:25:18):
take it break. We can kind of go quick here
then the rest of the way. One from the seven
oh one area code says, I know games like today
aren't as exciting as close ones, but Bizon fancy to
stay in their receipts and til the end play. Playing
for a half empty stadium just isn't that fun? I agree,
former player, he would know. I agree. Not as fun.
We get it. There's a lot of things to do

(01:25:38):
in this area. It's a Saturday. People want their saturdays
to do what they can do, So if it's not
gonna be closed, you're gonna go do your own stuff.
I get it from that standpoint. But also, hey, you're
prepaying for the ticket, might as well get the most out.
We saw from Northern Iowa. Wasn't quite over. They made
it a two possession game.

Speaker 5 (01:25:54):
They kept fighting all to be The contrarion on the
other side is at least we don't start with this. Yeah,
don't looking like that.

Speaker 6 (01:26:00):
That's true. That is true. Buyson fans in twenty sixteen
that Northern Iowa was coming to town and we had
I think it was fourteen dude, that'd be fourteen eight hundred, Like,
what are we doing?

Speaker 5 (01:26:11):
Yeah, that's true, you know.

Speaker 6 (01:26:12):
So it's just again I think it's partially on and.

Speaker 5 (01:26:15):
We get those more restrooms in there.

Speaker 6 (01:26:17):
Anything's possible, guys, Yeah anything, Oh yes, I measure one
more restrooms. People understand a long concessions. You get to
go to some different areas and different and far areas
you can watch as well. That's all part of what
could happen. Some different areas we can watch the game from.
They're just more entertaining and a different, different experience to buy,
differ football. It's already great.

Off to Pethic pics that leaflocker back to seclement. He
is crunched in a backface. The Bison were not full
the sack and the backfield by Marcus Gully linebacker came home.
They tried to run a fleet flicker, but Gully said
not today. The Bison went a sack to start this
third quarter. I sack there from the Bison defense. Part

(01:32:17):
of a very good defensive day overall, yet a little
bit lowder in the third quarter for sure of a
nice play by Marcus Gully West Fargo product make another
play there on defense. The linebacker unit is also to
talk about the receiver unit being deep linebacker. It's very
very deep Enoch and Marcus making some plays his guys
that basically been backups for you.

Speaker 14 (01:32:35):
Yeah, just you know, just like we said in the pregame,
just the passion he plays with, how he you know,
I got a great game today.

Speaker 15 (01:32:41):
Some of the last breakups he might have to torn
down a little bit. In the flex scene when he
makes a big play.

Speaker 14 (01:32:45):
There is one where once again I was kind of
chumbling up with this ref on my sideline, but he
kind of he's like, I canna hear him talking because
the all the refs have like a radio earpiece where
he's like, oh, yeah, you gotta call that.

Speaker 6 (01:32:54):
You I called that.

Speaker 14 (01:32:55):
I'm like, no, you don't know, you don't It's fine,
But yeah, I thought I should have been an unsports
link but no, that linebacker could and all those guys
love Giogo loves those guys, and they're playing at the
extremely high level right now.

Speaker 5 (01:33:04):
It's really cool to see a lot of the Fargo
Morehead guys kind of you know, coming of age that
you know when you sign you know, even at the
end of the game, the killing its getting into the
game a little bit. Like it's fun to see those
names because they haven't you don't get a lot of
those players to make the jump and start playing right away,
right the.

Speaker 6 (01:33:21):
Guys that signed from Fargo schools here, it's like, okay,
oh yeah, I forgot about yeah, but now you look
at John gors Is making plays xy butmana Marcus Gully
Truman where Meyer making plays is the baby's probably Peter
how Goo is going to be a guy for the future.
Didn't get in today just because they didn't want to
use them again four you know, so they want to
keep the red shirt there. But there's some local guys

(01:33:43):
from basically all the local high schools here that I.

Speaker 5 (01:33:45):
Think that's that's really awesome that that draws a lot
of and that's good for those programs.

Speaker 15 (01:33:51):
Too, exactly.

Speaker 14 (01:33:51):
How like our high school kids love seeing that and
they're like, oh, we played against Marico when.

Speaker 6 (01:33:55):
We were like when I was an eighth or another one.
We're watching the.

Speaker 15 (01:33:58):
Stuff like that.

Speaker 14 (01:33:59):
It's it's it's really cool, and like you said, it's
huge for just the state of North Dakota, especially in
this metro area here Fargo, Moorhead, West Fargo, just for
those young guys to see that and like they watched
for that, They watched for you know, kellen EN's, they
watched for John gors Berrika. I mean even like back
when I was I remember we went to un d
in twenty twenty one and there's a little art media
guys made an edit. It was me, Cody Mauk, Jackson Hanky,

(01:34:22):
Jake Coobis and it was like Revenge of the walk Ons.
Like right, you indeed didn't think you guys are good
enough to get a scholarship to that school up north.
Now you're a DSU. Now let's go up to the
door the tin shack up there and show them what
it's so awesome. It's pretty cool to have that local flavor.
As NDSU has got to basically one of the best
group of five schools in the country, you still have
that local flavor.

Speaker 6 (01:34:43):
Connect to the community too. It Let's face it, NDSU
is the pro sports team in North Dakota. There is
your high schools, are your colleges right your college teams,
and there's a lot of pride with college teams around
the country, same with the high schools around it. People
turn out for high school football, especially in Fargo, Moorhead,
West Fargo and across the state. But to have those
local the guys here, I think that means everyone in
Shyanne's like, you know what, I love watching Brick in

(01:35:03):
high school. I'm gonna go to a game just to
watch Burris and T and Tyler Terrhrt and cole Men's
and those guys. So it's you know, Spartan's Spartan fans
that for going on with like Peter Hal what a
great kid, what a great dude. He'll bring us a
state title. Let's go watch him exactly. It helps. That
helps a little bit too. I would do have a
text in here seven and one number text us seven
zero one four seven six sixteen sixty gentleman text in

(01:35:25):
and says hello, gentlemen, we appreciate that nice cordial greedy
A big thank you to our military personal Today was
Military Appreciation Day. Loved the video from NDS one from
all of us here on Bison Hotline, thank you all
to our military men and women currently in our armed
forces and all those who have been as well and
their families for all the work they do for our country,
says the dominant win against you and I. I was

(01:35:47):
concerned how our defense played in the third quarter. It
looks to me that our deepense struggles with the screenplays,
and our defensive backs left their wide receiver is a
little bit too wide open. What should our team work
on during the bye week? Go buy in from Tadak
the Polish Bison. I would agree with all of that
stuff he said, especially the stuff about the military. Your
thoughts on the screen place, did we defend those? Yeah?

Speaker 14 (01:36:09):
I would just say a big part of the screenplay
is like your defensive lineman retracing and kind of getting
down the line.

Speaker 15 (01:36:15):
We call them Coach calls them stack monsters. I don't
know where that term comes.

Speaker 6 (01:36:18):
From, but the first thing is realizing, Okay, I'm probably
not being blocked.

Speaker 14 (01:36:22):
For We always make jokes like you're not that good.
You didn't get to the quarterback, so as soon when
it seems like it's too easy. If it smells like
you know what, it probably is you know what, So
just retrace getting down the line. There's a couple of times.
I know everyone wants the sacks, you don't you get
sacks are awesome, no one like the three yard tackle

(01:36:42):
isn't as cool. But the defensive lineman, yeah, you need
to do a better job of redirecting getting down the line.
And then it comes down and getting off blocks and
the linebackers and secondary and I think, like you said,
tak Polish the Polish Bison, we didn't do a extremely
well job of that today.

Speaker 6 (01:36:59):
But there was one time they did a screen and
we were bringing I think a blitz from grand Olsen
actually knock it down. I think Kupe's knocked it down there.
But yeah, I'm with you. There's probably sometimes the defensive
lemner are like, man, I'm going to the NFL by
that guy, like.

Speaker 5 (01:37:11):
And some of those those screenplays too. In today's game,
that's something that you know, those us old timers, there
was no such thing as a wide receiver screen right
that today is a very big part of the game
is that that slot receiver and wide receiver immediately engaged,
the ball comes out quick. It's not a screen of
like my my age or my grandfather's age, but it

(01:37:32):
is still a screenplay. So what you leave then is
a free safety that's coming down or a linebacker who
you know can come over, and all you need to
do is break one tackle. It's because in the most
part you're gonna be one on one if you can
make that first guy miss and pick up some yards,
which they did today call back to yards after the catch,
which they two to one over NBSU today. Those are

(01:37:52):
the kind of plays that, yeah, it's a new age
screenplay if you would, they can be tough to defend
man screen.

Speaker 14 (01:37:59):
I mean I think back like kind of earlier in
the Bison Dynasty with guys like Crockett and you used
to and Derek Norton.

Speaker 15 (01:38:05):
They used to run that middle screen with those guys.

Speaker 14 (01:38:07):
I think Derek lanyg that he got then you get
a first down against case State on them, I think he's.

Speaker 5 (01:38:11):
Got his job because of screen games today.

Speaker 6 (01:38:14):
I think we living on screenplays and wheel routes. Yeah,
he's more like mister wheel route himself.

Speaker 15 (01:38:20):
No, but that they're tough to defend.

Speaker 14 (01:38:22):
But uh, normally a teams in a resort to screenplays
when nothing else is working. Obviously, it's a good play
when it works, but it's kind of like you got
to slow down the pass rush a little bit, kind
of get those guys double thinking twice.

Speaker 15 (01:38:33):
About no Am I this good to get to the
quarterback that he'sy kind of stuff like that. But uh, yeah,
I think it's definitely something you can get.

Speaker 6 (01:38:40):
What should they work on here now that you've got
into the bye week. I'm sure what they're going to
do is, hey, anyone's like a senior or every health player, yes,
sit out, get off your feet, getting the cold tubs,
getting the saunas, or whatever you gotta do to be
feeling better. Make sure that that stuff's taking care of
some of the younger guys who maybe some of the
younger safeties who are playing right now too. But everyone's
going to be in there and play here during the

(01:39:00):
bye week and do what they need to do. But
what do you think they're gonna be working on.

Speaker 14 (01:39:03):
From my experience, just with that bye week, they'll use it.
So obviously we know in the next two games Missouri
State and then South Dakota, I think they'll probably, you know, Tuesday,
half of Wednesday, they'll work on South Costa State stuff,
and then Wednesday Thursday though, okay, South Dakota stuff, and
then uh Thursday, they'll kind of turn the tables back

(01:39:24):
to Missouri State.

Speaker 15 (01:39:25):
Just have a little bit of a head up.

Speaker 14 (01:39:26):
So obviously when you get done with the Missouri State game,
you have a little bit of call back, so you're
not going into USC off of fresh weeks. They'll do that,
and then there'll be a lot of they'll probably be
we call it the Rook Bowl on our bye week,
so all the rookies and the guys that are on
Scout Team will kind of have their opportunity to have
a little scrimmage and stuff after at the end of practice,
which is always the guys absolutely love it.

Speaker 6 (01:39:44):
You get you know, your red shirt freshman, your true
freshman out.

Speaker 14 (01:39:47):
There, Scout team guys, the Scout team, like we call
it the Rook Bowl, and then you have the offensive
defensive guys just hooting and holler and it's a really
good time.

Speaker 6 (01:39:52):
But that's awesome.

Speaker 14 (01:39:53):
Get those young guys, you know, not because they've been
on Scout team kind of getting their butts kicked for
the past two months now, they kind of get their
opportunity to go out and run NDSU offense, run DSU
defense exactly, and so it's a good uh you know,
kind of see where they're at with the offense and defense.

Speaker 5 (01:40:09):
So this isn't a bye week where you like, you
take off your shirt, head to Miami, get on a boat.

Speaker 15 (01:40:13):
It's kind of no.

Speaker 6 (01:40:14):
It's still a work week for the Bison.

Speaker 5 (01:40:16):
Okay, they'll call it.

Speaker 15 (01:40:17):
They'll call it a Bison week. We're gonna a bi
What do you what do you think of this?

Speaker 5 (01:40:20):
Later by that, I think this is one of the
latest ones.

Speaker 15 (01:40:23):
I think there's good and bad to it. Obviously having
one earlier is kind of nice to split up the season.

Speaker 14 (01:40:28):
But yeah, I think that the fact that we've made
to this bye week unscathed and uh the conference in FCS,
I think now it's awesome because now you kind of
get that break to you know, Okay or nine and
eight and oer or wherever we are in the conference,
we have everything is in our own hands.

Speaker 15 (01:40:44):
Take this week off.

Speaker 6 (01:40:44):
We got two more conference games left, and then we're
kind of into the long haul for the.

Speaker 5 (01:40:48):
Playoffs because hopefully you still have two munths more to
play exactly. So, I mean there's still a long road
to go after and I always wonder about that too
about Bison, how much rest goes on or what where
do you look at and I think that NDSU, it's
not it's not like they're on this like amazing run
where they're just I think they're at a point where
they need Like the Vikings is a good example, having

(01:41:09):
the buy at five and oh was the worst thing
is they were hot.

Speaker 6 (01:41:12):
They were hot, Like I don't want to buy now.

Speaker 5 (01:41:14):
I want to keep this feeling going where I think
at NDSU, especially coming off of a very emotional win
with STSU and then a couple of snoozers, if you
would less competition, you take care of business in those
two games. Yeah, I think that it's a good spot
for that that if you would, you know, you come
out of the STSU game, then I mean that would
be a very natural letdown of like that was so emotional.

(01:41:38):
I could use a couple of weeks, you know, to
get myself around again. I think it was great they
went out these last two weeks, had games they should win,
games they can win, and that they took care of business.
I think it's a good.

Speaker 6 (01:41:48):
Well, I typically love the buy after non conference in
the conference, you split those two seasons up. But when
you have it like that, then it basically makes conference
and playoffs that's a Now you make it a buy
and there because the first round of the playoffs where
you get a buye, right, but that can be a
really long journey, haven't it here again? Like you said, Chris,
let's you take this week to ramp up for two

(01:42:09):
big games. Missouri Restate is good, USD is good. These
are gonna be tough, very physical games, very I think
you know offense that can really light up the scoreboard
a little bit. So the defense is gonna have to
be dialed in. These two games are big. Gives you
a chance to reset, refocus. Also, this coaching staff again,
all these new pieces on staff with Tim Poulasek and
Jake Landry and I know grandt Olson's been around, but
always in a new role. This is a week for them.

(01:42:31):
Let's go back and see what we've been doing. What
do we like, what don't we like. Let's self scout ourselves.
What are people seeing in our defense now that we've
had some injuries, What are people seeing in our offense?
That's been so good. Do have any tendencies we need
to kind of keep an eye on it if we
need to break those tendencies a little bit, those kind
of things, you don't get a chance to do that
when you don't have a buye. Now they're gonna get
a chance to do that and actually dive into who
they have been so far and that's gonna help them

(01:42:53):
going into the future.

Speaker 15 (01:42:54):
And to your point, Andy, like we saw that last year.

Speaker 14 (01:42:55):
Obviously we had the buye a week after non con
we were not fortunate enough to in that bye week,
say the playoffs. We had to play in the first
round over Thanksgiving weekend. So then by the time we
were playing Montana, we had played what like fourteen straight
weeks in or three months.

Speaker 6 (01:43:09):
For sure.

Speaker 14 (01:43:09):
That's if you get in that situation, Like having a
bye week later is good, but like if you aren't
able to get that first round by that's a lot
of football to play.

Speaker 15 (01:43:17):
And obviously we had to go on the road and
it makes it is tougher because of that.

Speaker 6 (01:43:20):
Yeah, absolutely, so positives and negatives to all of that stuff.
One more text message will take a break as guys,
how many points did the Bison score in the second half.
And how many did the Panthers score in the second half.
I think it was sixteen to fourteen. How can you
say that Beeson played a good game? You and I man,
they glanced glanced them the second half. A little off
on some of the text in here, you and I

(01:43:42):
believe won the second half. That's from ian ELL's uncle
right there. So I gotta go back and look at
the second half numbers. But thankfully, no matter what happened
in the second half, it's a two half game in
Indians won.

Speaker 5 (01:43:54):
They were they have twenty eight to three at half
twenty eight to three, so they ended up being forty
nine to nineteen.

Speaker 6 (01:44:00):
And SA, yeah, I'll score fourteen sixteen. That would mean well,
that's good.

Speaker 15 (01:44:04):
Hey, there's a moral victory for you.

Speaker 6 (01:44:07):
Yeah, I mean, if you have you and I won
the second half sixteen to fourteen. They did. They scored
Senior teen in the order. NDSU scored fourteen seven in
each quarter.

Speaker 5 (01:44:14):
Everyone knows you're not in the same mode. From eight
minutes left in the game, when you're up by you know,
four scores, you're not in the same mode.

Speaker 6 (01:44:22):
But they could have played better in the third quarter asolutely.

Speaker 5 (01:44:24):
Well, they could have scored, they could have kept them
off the board in twelve would have been a great number.
Fourteen was an okay number. Nineteen is not a good number.

Speaker 6 (01:44:32):
At all today. And if my uncle was a girl,
should he'd be my honor something like that, right, Yeah, yeah,
ifs and butts or candies and nuts.

Speaker 5 (01:44:39):
We'd all have numbers.

Speaker 6 (01:44:40):
Yeah, there you go, which is not too far away.
But we're celebrating things given before that time right there
with everybody that agrees on that sentiment. Uh, there you go,
our thoughts on all that stuff. Thanks to everyone that texted,
I'm busy. D seven zero one, four seven six, sixteen sixty.
If you want any more of them, I'm sure we'll
get a couple more before we end, but we gotta
take another break. We'll come back, and I promise on
the other side we will get to the Lopofargo scoreboard

(01:45:01):
and we will talk about one particular score quite a
bit on the other side.

Speaker 18 (01:45:05):
Next.

Time for more reaction from today's game, cur again as
your host Andy Richoff.

Speaker 6 (01:49:13):
Cam Miller the shotgun gets a snap play act fake
scoots back on the hash Fyers office back but state
ball down the middle once again, Bryce Lands. They got it.
One on one coverage Miller to a Lands for the
big hitter down to the Northern Iowa six gain of
forty two first down at ESU. Just another example of

(01:49:37):
big plays by Bryce LANs. Maybe big play Bryce, we
start cooling man like that big play Bryce showing up
there once again. NDSU wins at forty two to nineteen.
Bryce Lands very instrumental once again in the passing game,
had the amazing catch in the end zone for the
touchdown and helps lead NDSUE again in receiving yards and

(01:49:58):
in receptions today. Definitely cam Miller's number one target. Cam
Goes seventeen of twenty two hundred and sixteen yards, two
touchdowns in this game, no interceptions. Bryce Lance four receptions,
seventy seven yards and a touchdown, averaging nineteen point three
yards per reception, and had five targets as well in
this game. A fun note, Cam Miller, by the way,

(01:50:20):
broke the record for most consecutive pass attempts without an
interception because he did that at the end of the
first half on an incompletion that was also really really
short of the receiver. Yeh, ask Cam, did you know
that was the record breaker. I'm gonna have to ask him.
That was like one of his worst throws of the day.

Speaker 15 (01:50:38):
He got he got close on that one in the
first cour was.

Speaker 6 (01:50:40):
One almost got picked off and he was two attempts short. Yeah,
so yeah, he did break Trey Lance's record for most
pass attempts without an interception. State unscathed again today, Buyson
win the turnover battle. They've been great in that area,
got even better today with that fumble recovery and again
no turnovers for NDSU fumbles or interceptions. So Cam Miller

(01:51:01):
and Bryce Lance both having one heck of a day.
We have one more tex Best at cheer. Then we'll
get to the Jiffy Lubefogo scoreboards. Steve texan and says snoozer, Guys,
did you see how many yards and first downs we
gave up today? End of third quarter stats are pretty close.
Other than the score, that's all great. I'll tell you this, Steve,
the only stat that matters is the score. That's the
only one that does matter. Now to Steve's point, yes,

(01:51:25):
there's in the third quarter. We we've been to this
a thousand times. They gave up some plays. The secondary
needs to be better, maybe gotta get a better pass
rush there. There's a number of factors to that. They
have to get better. But the end of the day,
they won this game, and they won it convincing.

Speaker 14 (01:51:37):
And even in the second quarter. If they don't turn
that ball over in the red zone, it might be
a whole different game. But at the end of the day,
you know defensive motto ben don't break. They ca them
snap the ball one more time. They snapped it, they
fumbled it, We get out the field, offense goes down
scores like so, yes, Statistically, was it a close game?

Speaker 6 (01:51:53):
Who cares?

Speaker 15 (01:51:53):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (01:51:54):
Did you see how many yards and first downs we
got four to twenty two, four hundred and twenty two
yards to three hundred and forty four yards. It's eighty
more yards in this game than Northern Iowa had. And
in terms of the first downs in DSU won that
one twenty four to eighteen, So they won in both
of those categories quite honestly, and they won in the scores,
So we give it less than twenty points to a
D one team that, again, Murray State beats themselves. Northern

(01:52:16):
Iowa wasn't gonna beat themselves. They have and I think
their offense is actually somewhat talented. They put up a
bunch of points last week. I think they'll score some points.
They got two good running backs, a quarterback that's young,
but I think promising. They got some playmakers outside. You know,
I'm not gonna I'm not gonna dig too much into it.
They gotta be better on defense, but I think they
were fine for the majority of this game, just not
that third quarter.

Speaker 5 (01:52:34):
I will jump on with him though.

Speaker 7 (01:52:36):
Of the.

Speaker 5 (01:52:38):
I hate that it happened against a team that you
absolutely throttled, but they kind of exposed a little bit like.

Speaker 6 (01:52:46):
Maybe you can pass on these guys.

Speaker 5 (01:52:47):
Yeah, like maybe it's maybe that's the secret here and
the next the next two weeks after the buy are
definitely passing teams, and so I don't know. That's the
only thing. One game does not make a trend. One
game can be an anomaly of your decent defense doesn't
play good in certain areas. Still won the game. That's fine.
You do it two weeks in a row, that's a

(01:53:07):
bit of a trend. Three weeks is definitely a thing.
So we'll see where it goes.

Speaker 6 (01:53:11):
They've got to get better there. They have the bye
week to do so, Yeah, correctly, But to your point,
Missouri States are gonna throw the ball all over the place.
Jacob Clark is throwing like forty times a game. He
might be up there in terms of the Offensive Player
of the Year voting. I don't think Cam will win it,
but Jacob Clark will be up there. And then yeah,
Bowman with USD they'll throw that thing around for sure.

Speaker 15 (01:53:28):
And that's one thing too.

Speaker 14 (01:53:29):
This is kind of a coach and saying, I'm sure
a lot of college football code teams can throw the
ball all you want. You can throw the ball, you see,
college offense is still the ball for three four hundred
yards a game. If you can only run the ball
for seventy four yards, you're not gonna win a whole
lot of ballgain.

Speaker 6 (01:53:41):
A team averaging one hundred and forty seven per game
on the ground, we help them to seventy.

Speaker 14 (01:53:45):
Have to be able to establish her on and I know,
like pass defense, pass rush secondary needs to be better.
But if you can hold the team to seventy four
yards rushing, that's gonna be a really tough for that
two point carries exactly. That's gonna be tough for that
team to win a game. So, yes, they've got some
yards to the air. Can you lose a game giving
up obviously, yes you can. But you can hold that
team make them one dimensional. It's gonna be really tough

(01:54:05):
for that team to.

Speaker 5 (01:54:06):
Give up three hundred passing yards and give up two
three touchdowns through the air. Yeah, then you got like, okay,
what the heck?

Speaker 14 (01:54:12):
But once you get down in the red zone, it
the field strings, it's harder to throw the ball. You
gotta be able to run the ball. And obviously you
and I wasn't. We're really tough up front right now.
So I think that kind of vodes well for endsu hey.

Speaker 6 (01:54:21):
One thing, and then maybe it's not for the Missouri
State game, but he could be the waiting in the
shadows all American safety.

Speaker 5 (01:54:28):
That'll help your I'm not gonna get excited because I
don't want to get let I know total, I'm gonna
stay mistake on it because I don't want to be
let down.

Speaker 6 (01:54:35):
Yes, we'll get to our jiffy lolue Befogo scoreboard here
Before that, let's pause ten second station identification. You're here
with us on Byson Hotline.

Speaker 1 (01:54:45):
Q w B West Fargo, Fargo, Moorhead and KPFX HD
three Kindred Buys sixteen sixty, Holly le cheval Let, Trev lacs.

Speaker 6 (01:54:53):
In Fargo, Andy rick Off, Chris Hansen, and Jake Cava
here with you on Bys and Hotline live at Applebee's.
You have a few more minutes. By the way, if
you're hear at Applebee's, come over to the bar area.
Sign up for tickets to NDSU and Missouri State in
two weeks. We'll draw for those here in about ten
or so minutes, so sign up right now while you
can for those tickets for senior Day. Let's go through

(01:55:15):
the jiffy loop of Fargo's scoreboard here, Shelby, gentlemen, first out,
let's go with the Valley. How about a win for
Missouri State. The next opponent for NDSU thirty eight seventeen
over Southern Illinois. That Southern Illinois team is banged up
beyond believe. They've continued to get hurt right now and
they are zero to five in the valley. I never
thought I'd be saying that this year, but man, when
you get to hurt the way they have and they
don't have the depth that NDSU does right now, I've

(01:55:37):
definitely been hurting the Sulukis. They kept it close for
a little bit there, but seventeen points in the second
quarter from Missouri State Jacob Clark to our point twenty
two of thirty for two hundred and thirteen yards and
two passing touchdowns. They win thirty eight seventeen yeards all
SDSU down in Brookings as they host the Murrie State.
No surprise there, fifty two to six. The Jakrebits get

(01:55:58):
a victory and a easy, much need did easy win
for them after two super tough games with NDSU and
USD the last couple of weeks. Illinois State keeps their
very much realistic playoff hopes alive. A six and three
record now for Illinois State as they win twenty three
sixteen over the Penguins of Youngstown State two. If they
had any bleak hopes of getting to the playoffs for

(01:56:18):
the Penguins after their win last week against und it
came crashing down today. They're now three and seven, two
and four in the Valley the Illinois State six and
three and three and two in Valley play. They'll also
play un D at the end of the year in
normal If they can get that one, I think they'll
be in the playoffs. Speaking of un D, they played
the day two on the road against an inferior opponent,
which is usually a recipe for disaster, and that's exactly

(01:56:40):
what came that way for the Fighting Hawks. Today in
Tara Hate against Indiana State the Sycamores, and they have
fifteen points in the second quarter, fourteen points in the
third quarter. They had a chance to win the game.
They came up short on a hail mary after getting
sacked on two straight plays, end up with a fourth
end forever through a hail mary. That one was incomplete

(01:57:01):
and they lose on the road at Indiana State thirty
five thirty one Sycamores over the Fighting Hawks. I will
leave the floor open, Chris Hansen take it away.

Speaker 5 (01:57:09):
Did Larry Bird walk through that door? Did Shakiir Bell
walk through that door? The best player in Sycamore history
on the football field, I I don't think.

Speaker 6 (01:57:19):
Coach them on the stead what in the world. It's
just been a free fall.

Speaker 5 (01:57:24):
Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 6 (01:57:25):
By the way, Indiannited State's three and two in Valley
Play watch out, Yeah, two and three.

Speaker 14 (01:57:30):
I just I and from what I have obviously have
some I know guys on the UNDI team, and I
think they they all do like Bubba Schweiger, and I
think he's a great guy.

Speaker 6 (01:57:39):
Obviously. I think he's actually with that program, he's made
them somewhat relevant. They've been in the playoffs, they've been
decent in Valley Play, They've had some nice he has.

Speaker 14 (01:57:48):
But I mean, at some point you just gotta look
at yourself in the mirror, and you know, we have
like it's been in the last six years. You know, yeah,
oh we're good, we're finally making that jump. And then
we have a good game and then at home and
then we go on the road and we lose these
kind of just head scratchers to Youngstown State, Indiana State.
It's last year, Iowa last year until Northern Iowa after
they beat us and got shot out, Like it just

(01:58:10):
I don't get. I don't know what's going on up
there during the week, Like is it just a big
party that they won a game and all of a
sudden they forget they have a game next week.

Speaker 6 (01:58:18):
I just don't get every team can struggle on the
road a little bit. It can be tough. You can
never seen a team so bipolar between of what they
do at home and what they do on the road.
It doesn't even show up defensively. They cannot stop the
run on the road.

Speaker 5 (01:58:28):
Yeah you go, I'll give you. Going to Terre HOAt
and winning twenty one to seven, yeah, twenty four to ten.

Speaker 6 (01:58:34):
Be a weird place.

Speaker 14 (01:58:35):
And down to Terre hot and it's like it's like
it's a funeral going on. There's it's quiet, it's a morgue.
Like you go out there, you can just you're in
arra out, get the win, get out, get back to Fargo.

Speaker 6 (01:58:45):
Yeah, you can't go out there and lose. That's unacceptable
And I'm not now everything can change, right because we
just said at home they're a completely different team, right,
It can be really tough. And us you lost up
in Grand Forks last year. We all remember that one.
But the rest of their schedule now again at two
and three in the Valley home, but it's first St
SU home, but it's versus USD so I mean, if

(01:59:08):
they can win those ones, too tough, and then they
have to go on the road to Illinois State, they
could lose all three of those they coming. We're close
to the players, they have to win at minimum two
of those three and against the country state. Yeah, I
don't know, and probably not.

Speaker 14 (01:59:27):
We know from our with Steve Jimmy Rogers, a great
head coach. Bob Nielsen might be the best head coach
in the country.

Speaker 6 (01:59:34):
We don't know yet.

Speaker 15 (01:59:36):
I love coach Nielsen, He's awesome.

Speaker 14 (01:59:37):
But those are two well coached teams that are gonna
come into the Alerias Center, and I guarantee both coach
Rogers coach Nielsen will show some clips of the NDCU
U n D game last year. Guys, if you don't
take this game seriously, if you think you're gonna walk
in it as well, they can get a win.

Speaker 15 (01:59:51):
This is what's gonna happen.

Speaker 14 (01:59:53):
So I don't think both those teams are gonna go
up there knowing this is a completely different team in
Grand Forks.

Speaker 6 (01:59:59):
But and he's fighting for their life as well, and
they are. But I just I don't see them in
their next two games. And they have some talent, they'll
do is good. Z Barth is good. I think rum
Fells a fine young quarterback. But man on the road
at Youngstown State and at Indiana State, to drop both
of them, that's your season. Because maybe that's what happens.
Maybe what is happenings. We've been talking.

Speaker 5 (02:00:18):
About it the whole game, and it just hit me.
Maybe un D and Northern Iowa have switched places, because
Northern Iowa was always like they're terrible. You'd like throw
them in the dumpster, and then all of a sudden
they'd win like four in a row, get to a
playoff game, win a game they're not supposed to on
the road in the playoffs, like unexpected. You'd go down
there and play, and all of a sudden at the

(02:00:39):
wastewater treatment facility they would beat a team they're not
supposed to. So maybe they maybe they have kind of
und has taken.

Speaker 6 (02:00:47):
Over you and I. You and I could win on
the road. They come to far Go and give you
a heck of a game, or they would Brookings maybe
win or something.

Speaker 5 (02:00:57):
Right now, it's worse than investigating. Let's put a pin
and it will back.

Speaker 6 (02:01:00):
To the only one more road game for U and
D at Illinois State. Hopefully they can make that one matter.
But if they're gonna make it matter, they have to
win at least one, maybe even honestly two against SDSU
and USD. I think I look at the CIA here quickly,
some teams, a lot of teams that are in playoff
spots right now the CIA, because of thirty teams being
in the conference, they might get five teams in the

(02:01:20):
playoffs because they have good records, and right now there's
not a lot of good records at the FCS level.
A few of them in action today, William and Mary
gets to six and three. They win forty five seventeen
on the road at North Carolina A and T. Villanova
now gets to seven and two, four and one in
the CIA as they win twenty to fourteen over Hampton.
I will not give them any credit for that twenty
to fourteen against Hampton. That's gotta be a better win

(02:01:40):
if you want some real credit. But they're gonna get
the win in the win loss column. Stony Brook wins
in overtime thirty one to thirty against zero to five
in conference play Bryant. So stony Brook gets the win,
they'll improve to seven and two four and one in
the CAA. You get my drift. Six wins, seven wins,
seven wins, how about eight wins? Rhode Island wins thirty
seven twenty eight at home against Monmouth. That game was

(02:02:03):
much closer at the half, but Rhode Island pulling away
with a thirteen point fourth quarter. And then New Hampshire
it gets to five wins. They win thirty one to
fourteen against Albany, and seven wins now for Richmond as
they win thirty five to twenty four against Towson. So
I say all those scores to say that there's probably
gonna be five teams from the CAA. They get in
because they're already at seven or more wins. But I

(02:02:23):
don't know how good any well, that's the thing.

Speaker 5 (02:02:26):
What that smells like is three of those teams then
go to Missouri Valley teams and get pounded.

Speaker 6 (02:02:31):
Or anywhere else or anywhere else, so they get pounded.
I don't know of all those teams, I don't know
if any of them get a first round by. Maybe
Rhode Island if they can win out, maybe they get
a top eight seed in a first round by. But
I don't know if anybody else.

Speaker 15 (02:02:43):
Does it's just it's it's tough. The state of the
FCS is.

Speaker 6 (02:02:46):
The CA's got twenty teams. They lost GMU and brought
in like North Carolina A and T and all these
other ones that just aren't aren't good right now, which
means nobody's really playing anybody either. And then into the
big sky, let's go there for a little bit on
our jiffy loop before scoreboard. Montana State stays undefeated. They
win at Eastern Washington forty two to twenty eight. They
scored twenty eight points in the first half of the

(02:03:08):
offense definitely clicking Tommy Mollott thirteen of twenty one to
eighty one and two touchdowns passing, and he adds six
carries for one to twenty five and a touchdown on
the ground. Overall, that's over three hundred yards of offense
and three touchdowns responsible for there for the senior quarterback.
They tied in the second half, they did they tie win,
so that counts as a tie. And that's not a

(02:03:30):
complete way. See it happens to Montana State too. They
tied Eastern Washington in that second half. UC Davis gets
a win. They get to eight and one, still undefeated
versus the FCS, fifty nine to seven victory at home
against Northern Colorado. Northern Arizona wins twenty seven to six
at home against Weaver State. Montana wins on the road
dominant fashion as well. They did not lose on the
first or the second half or the game. Forty two

(02:03:52):
to seven on the road at cal Pauly. Was not
a very good team, but Montana got to seven and
two today, now four and one in Big Sky play.
We know because of the Committee rankings. They were number
ten in the Committee rankings earlier this week, so there's
a chance Montana. You're talking about top eight seed. They
have kind of turned that season around since losing up
in Grand Forks. And I see that and against Weaver State,

(02:04:12):
and I see Junior Bergen return into their punt for.

Speaker 5 (02:04:14):
A still giving him an opportunity to kick it out
of bounds.

Speaker 15 (02:04:18):
I still have nightmares. I don't like to talk about it.
I just saw it now. I'm not going to sleep tonight.
Just kick it out of bounds, guys.

Speaker 6 (02:04:23):
Yep, he's kind of like Devin Hester.

Speaker 5 (02:04:25):
Yea, even give him.

Speaker 6 (02:04:29):
I'm with you, So anything peak your interest there from
the Big Sky tell your bunter, give me your best shank,
give me your best thirty five year old my five iron,
flare one.

Speaker 5 (02:04:39):
Out to the right and call it a day. We'll
let the defense get out there.

Speaker 15 (02:04:42):
A big sky.

Speaker 14 (02:04:42):
I mean, it's a I think it's it's probably only
threaten that conference. There's probably two Montana State Montana. You
get Montana out of Washington Gris Stadium. I think it's
not as scary as it is playing.

Speaker 5 (02:04:55):
Either one of those teams. If they're hosting that second
round playoff game, they're almost I mean, I don't care
who they're playing. I'll give him a sixty five chance
to win just because of where you were playing.

Speaker 6 (02:05:06):
Why the last games for NDSU are so important is
because that one seeds on the line. I don't want
to go to Bozeman. No, that's a tough place to
play out. Last year we walked out with a win.
I took a blocked field going ot or blocked extra
point no TA to get it done. That's a tough
place roster though, so we do. That's right, he still
having We have that coll in our back pocket. Yeah. Absolutely,

(02:05:26):
go to the SoCon quickly. There's a couple of big matchups.
There of a bunch of one loss teams in conference
play that could be vying for playoff spots as well.
Chattanooga at Western Carolina about the Catamounts winning at thirty
eight thirty four, giving Chattanooga their second loss in SoCon play.
Both of those teams now five and four. I think
Western Carolina a chance still to win the SoCon title.

(02:05:46):
Chattanooga at that loss not gonna put them completely out,
but not gonna be winning the SoCon most likely. And
now at five and four, that's gonna be a dicey
one to get into the playoffs. And then Mercer hosting
a former opponent on nbsu's schedule, ETSU, you the Buccaneers.
This one was Mercer for most of the game, a
little bit closer at the end, but Mercer wins thirty
seven thirty one. They are now five and one in

(02:06:09):
SoCon play, eight and one overall. ETSU drops to three
and two in conference play, and we'll move on with yeah.
I mean, Mercer's defense was touted as the best defense
in the FCS. They've given up fifty five thirty four
and now thirty one in three straight.

Speaker 5 (02:06:24):
I just don't follow the SoCon like I used.

Speaker 6 (02:06:27):
To great SoCon says everybody. Yeah, all right, I do
think there's a couple of decent teams. They might get
three teams out of that conference. And just again, the
FCS is down, the valley is down. The valley has
a chance of only getting three teams, the chance of four.
Illinois State's got a pretty good chance to make the
playoffs now the way it stands, and doesn't help that
you'd have a playoff team in Missouri State that's not
eligible this year either. How about some FBS scores for

(02:06:49):
you as well here Big ten first off, a number
one Oregon kind of close put at the end, a
pretty comfortable win twenty eight seventeen on the road at
Michigan their first big test in Big Ten play on
the road in November. Right, we're dealing with the weather
they don't typically deal with They dealt with it just
fine today. Also, Indiana gonna get a win against Michigan State.
How about the finalist four year from early on in

(02:07:11):
the day, Number four Ohio State goes two Happy Valley
and beats number three Penn State twenty to thirteen. The
final and that one Will Howard two touchdown passes and
over one hundred and eighty yards through the air. Minnesota
Golden Gophers are going bowling, and then some they beat
Brett Beilama for I believe the first time since he
was at Wisconsin. Well, hedn't even beat him at Wisconsin,

(02:07:31):
and now they hadn't beat him at Illinois, and they
finally beat him today. I dated a number twenty four
ranked Illinois by a final of twenty five seventeen, A
win for the Gophers in that one, and then a
final in overtime Northwestern David Brown and Wildcat's gonna win
against Purdue. I know Purdue is one in seven, but
they beat him twenty six to twenty in ot Now
just a couple of wins away from getting Bowl eligible again.

(02:07:51):
For David Brown in the Northwestern Wildcats, I just absolutely
love to see that.

Speaker 14 (02:07:55):
You're not going to find a better guy in the
college coaching ranks than coach Broun and just what he's
done there. Obviously there's some circumstances. I'm sure everyone knows
what went on at Northwestern just for him to come
into that program, and you know the man he is,
the coach he is kind of not I won't say
turn it or kind of turn it around, but just
kind of change the look of it, change the look
of it and just kind of make do with what
you got and just they're winning games in the Big

(02:08:16):
ten and just so happy for you.

Speaker 6 (02:08:17):
Settled down a really really tough situation. Did a really
tough one there for you. How about number five Miami
survives a scare and then blows out Duke. They were
down early in this one at half even, but then
they were able to come back and win at fifty
three point thirty one. Cam Ward over at four hundred
passing yards and five touchdowns the former incarnate work guy.
He's having himself a heck of a year there with

(02:08:37):
the Canes. Indiana does get the win against Michigan State.
Iowa State drops number eleven the Cyclones. They fall twenty three.
Twenty two at home against Texas Tech opened the door
for Chris Climbing and Kansas State. They couldn't walk through
it though. They're on the road at Houston, who was
very average this year, but they couldn't get the win.
They fall. Kansas State does twenty four to nineteen. The
Big twelve is going to be interesting. Eyu and the

(02:09:00):
i received Kansas State and Iowa State matchup here either
next week or the week after.

Speaker 5 (02:09:04):
Yeah, I mean they both had it right in front
of them, both of those two teams and both stumbled today.

Speaker 6 (02:09:09):
Sort of interesting to see.

Speaker 14 (02:09:09):
I mean, obviously, whoever wins between BYU and then either
Iowa State K State will get the out of bye
and bye. But uh, yeah, that was a tough one
for K State at all. That's a game you gotta win.
I'm sure Coach climbing and those guys down there kicking themselves,
but they still have an opportunity, so all's not lost.

Speaker 6 (02:09:28):
Not done quite yet, So see when those two teams matchup.
I think it's either next week or the week after.

Speaker 37 (02:09:32):
Though.

Zepplement understand er goal line d here's a stamp again,
Pessic Kickson didn't get their boss loose on the ground.
Bison stop ups at d SU when they're recovering Cone
Green with the goal line stand five fifty two to
go in the fourth Byson takeover leading forty two to nineteen,

(02:14:22):
and that's what they would win by forty two to
nineteen the final. In this one, DSUE gets the victory
over Northern Iowa. And we spent a lot of this
show because of people texting and calling talking about man.
They didn't have a good third quarter defensively, didn't finish
the game strong. How about that goal line stand that's
ending the game strong? To let them walk in They
stopped them there on the goal line fourth and inches
as well, and they actually gotta stop and the fumble

(02:14:44):
recovered again by Marcus Gully.

Speaker 15 (02:14:46):
Marcus Cully, Yeah, Private Fargo up there.

Speaker 6 (02:14:49):
We go, Wes Fargo Pack. Could you play against him?

Speaker 15 (02:14:51):
I have to think no.

Speaker 14 (02:14:52):
He would have put against my brother, my little brother. Okay,
I think my brother and him actually were one and
two in the EEDC player of the Year. I think
Marcus edged him out. But good job Martin.

Speaker 6 (02:15:01):
At least now he's a bias. Iwould take some soul
lists than that one. So how about that stuff though
there right at the end.

Speaker 14 (02:15:05):
Yeah, that was good And that's what you want to
especially obviously the games probably if they score, it's gonna
g a little interesting. But for all intensive persons, the
game's over at that point. But just and that's the
kind of the fight you want to see from your guys.
Just you know, it's a pride thing, right, We're not
gonna let these guys score here and then I don't
know who punched it out and then go out to
get the fumble. It's just it's a big time play
and that's definitely gonna be something they watch on Monday

(02:15:25):
at film.

(02:16:06):
a little something extra. Gotta love to see it. South
Carolina is that's It's a good team that's Inandy this year.

Speaker 5 (02:16:14):
Coach SAMs, he's definitely, he's uh, he's the man down there. Yeah.

Speaker 6 (02:16:19):
Way as we wanted to tell you when Iowa State
and Kansas State will be playing here, we said it
was in a couple of weeks. It is not next week.
On week eleven, I mean week twelve, those two teams
will be squaring off. So that's an update for everyone.

Speaker 15 (02:16:33):
That's a big one. I think that game last year
is like a snow ball. Wasn't it like a bunch
of snow I remember that if I remember correctly. We
have to go back and look the weather reports I
did play six years of college football, so my brain
gets a little shaky sometimes.

Speaker 5 (02:16:44):
But let's be honest, it was that way before you
got there, Jake.

Speaker 6 (02:16:48):
Off Shanley Education. How about some final thoughts before we
we wrap up here withdraw for the winners here in
just a little bit, I'll give you another minute and
a half to come sign up for any tickets if
you want to sign up for Andy versus Missouri State
tickets to the senior day game in two weeks time?
Is it the bye week? Next week? Final thoughts here
from both of you on the game and then what
to do here with this nice bye week coming up.

Speaker 5 (02:17:12):
A win by NDSU. You had two teams these last
two weeks that you just have to go in and
take care of business. You knew that you were the
better team one of them on the road with Murray
and then this week at home with you and I.
You take care of business, come out clean hopefully. This
week there was nobody who looked like they had any
injuries or things.

Speaker 6 (02:17:28):
To worry about, so didn't hear anything.

Speaker 5 (02:17:30):
Take a breath, get ready for the long stretch into January,
hopefully with you know, still five or six more games
to play. But I'm more of the I want that
you and I feeling back and it's probably not coming
back in this near future for them to get it
back is yeah. So that's my final thought. And I
would also put this out there too, is that the

(02:17:51):
Brookings game or the game in vermillions at one o'clock.
You leave Fargo at seven, you have some lunch in
Sioux Falls, you hit the game, you get their arout
twelve to fifteen, go to the game, you get back
in the car, you stop by you had Taco John's
in Watertown, and then you're back at home by like
nine o'clock.

Speaker 6 (02:18:07):
I mean it's a Mexican restaurant.

Speaker 7 (02:18:08):
It is.

Speaker 5 (02:18:09):
Well, we're not going to stop in that town. We
don't give them any money. But so I would encourage
and I was looking today there are still a lot
of tickets.

Speaker 6 (02:18:17):
Over by the way. Their ad is sent out emails
to all their like teammakers down at USD saying, get
our tickets now we know NDSU Travels, get them, keep
them out of here. So if you're gonna go down,
there was a fair amount of ticket still left. If
you're even thinking about going, go get those tickets now
before that game becomes a week away.

Speaker 5 (02:18:31):
It's an easy, fun road trip and.

Speaker 6 (02:18:32):
If they put a password on it, it's playoffs.

Speaker 34 (02:18:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (02:18:35):
Well, now this time might be regular regular season regularly
this year, the pass might be regular season, might.

Speaker 15 (02:18:40):
Be ABC one two three, try that one too if
the regular season one doesn't work.

Speaker 5 (02:18:44):
Side note, I also got a phone call. If I
got a phone call, uh this week from the SDSU
ticket office because I've bought tickets before them in the past,
they had ten dollars tickets that they were selling tickets
for ten dollars a night and playing along and go, oh, well,
who do you guys have the next couple of weeks? Well,
this week we have an exciting game against Murray State,
and what what kind of chicken for ten dollars US? Well,

(02:19:05):
I see a bunch of them around the fifty yard line.

Speaker 6 (02:19:09):
Okay, premiere view.

Speaker 5 (02:19:10):
Wow, you guys are doing well down there. That again,
Murray State, these are the problems you wish you had.

Speaker 6 (02:19:16):
Right so anyway, when we complain about NDS us not
what they used to be or we're just not as
good again, look what Northern Iowa's falling to right now?
So that Murray State is at and look at the
fin attendance.

Speaker 5 (02:19:26):
My final final is get to Vermilion. That's my final
final is make a road trip, have a good day.
You already probably got your deer the first weekend.

Speaker 6 (02:19:36):
So go and do that that weekend too. Yeah, it
can be. Yeah. By the way, Kansas State and Iowa
State play on November thirtieth, wondering there, so a few
weeks away.

Speaker 14 (02:19:43):
My final thoughts obviously, good win. There's no such thing
as a bad win. Obviously this was a good win.
Like you said, You and I is just kind of
a ghost of what they used to be. So it's
that is unfortunate just for the entire state of STS football.
Like Andy said, we want you and I to be
good because that makes the conference, that makes every that
makes FCS football better. But uh yeah, and then the
bye we just you know, get those young guys, rep

(02:20:04):
get those those younger guys that have been on scouting,
get them engaged, to get them kind of they'll have
the kind of their they'll have the line light a
little bit at practice. And then for the older guys,
you know, take a deep breath, take a little hit
the reset button.

Speaker 6 (02:20:15):
Okay, we got to this point.

Speaker 14 (02:20:17):
Go back self scout, what did we like earlier, what
didn't we like, and then get ready for the long
haul and a big playoff push for the Bison.

Speaker 6 (02:20:23):
Yeah, my final thoughts, it was a long trip to
this bye week. We looked at that four or five
game stretch of end of September through the end of
October and we're like, man, rivalry games, tough, physical teams.
Northern Island are gonna be a pushover either. All these
games are gonna be tough. I don't know how we're
gonna get through it. Got through it completely unscathed. It
is a very good thing. And even while losing some
great players like Dylan Hendricks and Sam Young along the

(02:20:45):
way and having some injuries, they have managed to get
better most of these games. Game in and game out.
They get another win today. He got to the bye week.
Everyone deserves a nice week off. Fans included coaches, players
as well. Enjoy the week off. We'll be back with
you and hit that ground run in. These last two
games are going to be everything. And if you don't
win those ones, everything you've done these previous now nine

(02:21:06):
weeks in a row, they mean nothing. So you gotta
go out and finish this thing strong, looking forward to it.
The offense is clicking, depense still very good. A few
things to work on, but I think this team was
primed for another deep run into the FCS playoffs and
looking forward to the stretch run for NDSU football. Big
things as well. Today. To everyone that called and texted,
this was a lot of fun. I had a lot
of callers, a lot of text messages, so I appreciate

(02:21:26):
everyone that was a part of the program today. Before
we say goodbye, we gotta give away our tickets to
NDSU and Missouri State. Jacobs pulled the name and our
winner is.

Speaker 15 (02:21:35):
We have Janet Jorgensen.

Speaker 6 (02:21:37):
Here we go.

Speaker 15 (02:21:38):
You'll be going to senior Night.

Speaker 6 (02:21:39):
Congratulations Janet Jorgensen. You are going to NDSU Missouri State.
Should be a heck of a football game. The last
time we will see the Bear is probably for maybe
quite some time. Who knows. You might be going up
to FBS and might not. Whatever happens. We'll see what
happens there. But last time as a member of the
Missouri Valley football compence should be a great game there
against the Bears of Missouri State. Not next weekend, but

(02:22:00):
