Speaker 1 (00:04):
The battle is over.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
The horns have sounded, and the herd has spoken. This
is Bison Hotline on your home for Bison football. Bison
sixteen sixty and one oh seven point nine the Fox.
We've got every hit, every highlight, and every hard pounding
moment covered. Your official breakdown of all things NDSU football.
We'll look at the stats. We'll take your calls on

(00:26):
every key moment in today's game. Call us it's seven
oh one four seven six, sixteen sixty.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
Back to pass, loops, fires and zodel the back line
touchdown Bison rash hot Housiddat sick.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
In the episode Bison hot Line, He's brought to you
by Kia of Fargo, Fast Price, Better Experience. Now let's
go live to Bison Hotline. Here's your host Andy Rickoff.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
First down and ten bowl on the left has there's
a technical pat quarterback run on the left side. There
he goes inside of thirty twenty ten, say you later,
a good night, and this Dakota Marker game touchdown Bison.

Speaker 4 (01:09):
Right out of the timeout.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
Cole Peyton forty seven yards his fourth rushing score of
the night. Superman all the way to the house and
it's thirty seven to seven Bison.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Earlier this week, Tim Poulosek said, this is a matchup
where you rip up the stats, you throw them away,
you throw them out the window. Well, tonight the stats
told quite the lop sided story, and the only one
that really matters is the final score. Thirty eight seven
NDSU over SDSU, and the marker is secured in its

(01:49):
nice warm bed and it's coming back to Forgo to
be housed inside of the Beison Football offices for another year.
Welcome into beieson Hotline. As the Bison get a a
thirty one point victory over the South Dakota State Jackrabbits
down in Brookings, they silence a record setting crowd at
Dana Jay Dikou Stadium, and they are coming back home

(02:11):
still undefeated. Andy Recoff, You're with you on Binson Hotline tonight.
We are live from the studio late night edition of
Hotline here at the game being a late night game,
We've still got you covered up. We want your thoughts
as NDSU wins in a route. Andy Recoff here, Nick
brendanmule with me as well. Me and Nick holding down
the show here at the end of a very long

(02:34):
and excited Saturday as NDSU gets this victory. Before we
go any further, though, let's make sure we let you
know Bines in Hotline brought to you by Keia of
Fargo stopping a Kia Fargo today and check out some
of their award winning vehicles like the redesigned Sorrento, the
Spacio Sedona or the sleek and stylish Optima. They can
go visit them online at Kiaoffargo dot com. Go Bison

(02:56):
from Kia of Fargo and Bison winning this one decisively
thirty eight to seven. We were in here in the studio, Nick,
this has been a fun one to watch. We're gonna
bring you in here. You and I NDSU over SDS.
You would think we all felt pretty good about it,
especially with Chase Mason dealing with an injury. But I

(03:16):
don't think any of us saw it being quite this lopsided. Yeah,
I mean, I feel like it was. It was one
of those things that we were expecting on another one
of those you know, fast paced games on one of
the sides, and we ended up getting a fast paced
game on the NDSU side. So it was it was
fun to see and the rivalry goes back long ways,

(03:36):
but it was you know, came up with the win
most lopsided win in marker history and either side, either
team winning most lopsided win and the most lopst of
victory for NDSU over SDSU since nineteen ninety two. I
was not born, Nick was not born. A lot of
us were not born at that point, so it's been
a while since NDSU has won this decisively against SDU.

(04:00):
We want your thoughts tonight as well. Seven zero one
four seven six, sixteen sixty. That's the number to text
and or call, and we've got the phone lines open
for you right now. You can also comment on our
bides in sixteen sixty Facebook page one on seven point nine.
In the Fox we got you guys as well, and
you can again text or call us and we'll get
as many of your comments in here as we can.

(04:21):
Probably a slightly abbreviated postgame show, but it still gonna
have plenty of time for all of your thoughts today
as the Biderson win in a route over their rivals
down to the South. First caller already ready, we've got
the icon calling us up here on the hotline. Icon
your hero with us on Bandison Hotline. What do you
want to talk about?

Speaker 5 (04:39):
Well, hey, gentlemen, how's it going. Good to talk to
you again. A couple of things here. First off, with
this game, first thing you have to say is win
period explanation point next. That's the first thing. Part two.
As Bizer fans here, we do need to kind of
kip our hats to southa Goos State. I mean, they

(05:00):
didn't come out playing like I thought they would, but
they've been undefeated up until now so here this leads
my two questions. One, what round of the playoffs are
we going to see South Dakota State again?

Speaker 4 (05:15):
And two?

Speaker 5 (05:16):
Who do you see stopping this team? Whether it be
in the regular season or in the playoffs. Those are
my questions. I'll hang up, listen, I'll talk to you
guys next week.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
Thanks, Okay, thank you. I kind of appreciate the call.
I guess you can tip your hat.

Speaker 6 (05:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
They're seven and zero and they did go to Bozeman
and got a really good win there. They beat Sack State,
Sex States not that good and we've learned that as
this year has gone on. But they did go to
Bozeman and get a victory against Montana State, not an
easy thing to do. And yeah, a lot of new players,
a lot of new coaches. They were seven and zero
at this point. But Chase Mason, yes, didn't play. Chase

(05:50):
Mason didn't get up the thirty eight points. I heard
Noah Gendorf say that on the network broadcast, they're on
the postgame show. He wouldn't have changed their defense, and
they weren't stopping Cole Payton, and they were not stopping
Bryce Lance on third down. Five receptions for Bryce Lance
one hundred three yards. Four of his five receptions were
on third downs, a third and lungs, and it was

(06:11):
just automatic Coal to Bryce all night long. Those two
are just better, and so far we have them from
really anyone that can stop them. And SDSU didn't have
any answers for those two either. They were really just
kind of running around all day long. Got some great
stats to get to. But we do have some more
phone calls to take as well. We'll get some of

(06:32):
those up here on our screener in just a little bit,
and I'll get to those phone calls as well. I
wanted to go through. Let's go through some of the stats,
a couple of them here right now. NDSU five hundred
total yards of offense. That's crazy. Five hundred yards of
offense one hundred and sixty six for SDSU. It's basically
what NDSU had in the first quarter. Net rushing yards

(06:52):
Bison two fifty seven. STSU in a game with their
backup quarterback where you knew they were going to have
to run the ball just forty three rushing yards on
twenty eight attempts, an average of one point five yards
per carry. The Beyson averaged over five yards per carry
and had five rushing touchdowns in this game. Net passing

(07:13):
yards two forty three to one twenty three. And this
is the area that I think absolutely won the bys
in this game, among many other areas, but this one
was huge. Coming into this game, stsu's defense was only
allowing teams to convert third downs on twenty eight or
twenty seven percent of the time. Twenty seven percent of
the time teams were converting on third downs. The Bison

(07:36):
went nine of sixteen, and some of those were late
when the game was already decided. Some of the ones
they didn't pick up nine of sixteen, they were nine
for their first thirteen attempts on third downs. That is
elite well over fifty percent conversion rate on third down.
And they weren't all third and ones, third and twos.

(07:57):
There were some third and eights. There was a third
and sixteen in there. There's a third and nine in there,
another third and seven in there, another third and eight
in there. There was plenty of lengthy third down conversions,
and you felt like each one of them in that
first quarter and second quarter really collectively took the soul
out of that the SDSU defense, but also out of
the record sitting crowd at Dana J. Diku Stadium. They

(08:20):
really did take a toll overall each time the Bison
could pick one of those up and again. Of those
nine third down conversions, four of them were Cole Payton
finding Bryce Lance. Plus time of possession for the now
twenty third time of the last twenty four games, the
winner of this game has one time of possession. The
Bison thirty eight minutes and three seconds, SDSU twenty one

(08:42):
minutes and fifty seven seconds. Let's go back to the
phone lines. Mark calling us up here. Mark, how you doing, sir?
What do you want to talk about?

Speaker 4 (08:50):
Well? Andy, Uh, give me a second to put a
few points together. First off, the thirty eight minutes. Just
mentioned that's how you win the game against your art
rival number two. This ended up being like American History

(09:16):
X and Edward Norton doing a curb stomping, and I
loved every moment of it. The ability, the fact that
we ended up holding them to one fourth of the

(09:38):
yardage that we had. It just shows that NDSU is
the dynasty and is the epitome of the FDS that
Tarlton State, Montana, Montana State and anybody else is going
to match up against. And I'm looking forward to whoever's

(10:03):
going to show up, because it won't be the bunnies
in Nashville.

Speaker 1 (10:08):
Yep, thank you, Mark, appreciate it and thank you Yep,
thanks for the call. I mean, I'm with them. It
was destruction. I mean it's thirty eight seven. If we
went to some of the stats, it tells you what
it is. You can say they brought out the belt
in this game. It just wasn't close. Even felt that way.
In the first quarter, SDSU went three and out. Bison
went down on a nine minute drive sixteen plays, they

(10:30):
converted multiple third dune conversions and scored a touchdown. Then
SDSU goes three and out. Then the Bison went down
and quickly scored again fourteen to nothing. Then SDSU went
three and out, and it felt like from that point
on this could get ugly, and it sure did thirty
eight seven the final. To Mark's point, and I think
the Icon's point from earlier, how Ford is SDSU dropping
this one. We can discuss that a little bit later on.

(10:53):
I hope we don't see him in the playoffs. I
think it's been too many times they've been on the
same side of the bracket. Unfortunately. Usually when this happens
in this TEP game, that means one of the team's
going to drop to like four, which puts them on
the same side of the bracket as number one, and
then you're seeing each other in the semi final. I
think we all can say SDSU is probably still one
of the best teams in the country, and we'll see
other the rest of their season goes they do over
trip up to Grand Fork, we'll see if Chase Mason

(11:15):
can get healthy. That's the other side of this, because
he's a young kid, so he's got some room to grow.
He's allowed to get better. But if Luke Marble is
starting against un D I'm gonna take you and d
in that game. They couldn't move the ball consistently tonight.
So see O. The rest of this season goes if
Chase Mason can get back, that's going to determine a
lot of things for SDSU in terms of where they

(11:35):
fall in a bracket, how far they fall in whatever
rankings that can be decided later on the rest of
this season. Let's quickly go back. I see he's called in.
He was down in the belly of the beast. We've
got to get some thoughts from our guy, Chris Hanson
given us a call, Hans, how are we doing? Have
we stopped at Taco John's yet?

Speaker 7 (11:52):
You know we got Taco John's earlier today. The olays
were delicious as always, it's the pre eminent dining destination
in all of Brookings County.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
I bet those olays went really, really well with a
couple of buys and touchdowns, and we had those all
night long, sir, you.

Speaker 7 (12:11):
Know it's it's funny. We have talked about this on
hotline numerous times with you and me and Jake. The
is NDSCU the only team that can beat NDSCU this year?
Yes night, right like tonight was very much take control
of the game, hold on to it, don't give them

(12:33):
any chance to do something. And it was just I
don't know how a thirty one point win feels like
a fifty point win like it just there was nothing
there from SDSU. And I don't care if Chase Mason
is playing or not. I don't know if Chase Mason
is enough to make a four touchdown difference against the

(12:54):
number one team in the country.

Speaker 1 (12:56):
It's not He's not, I can tell you. And it's
not a shot at him. It's just that that's It's
a lot to expect from one player, right, I mean,
he's not. He did not. He could not stop the
Bison from scoring thirty eight points. He wasn't playing He
would have been playing defense.

Speaker 7 (13:09):
I couldn't agree more. And tonight the vibe at Dana J.
Diek House Stadium was very much like an old school
coughlin A alumni stadium. When Zack Zenner went for four
yards for the entire game, when you looked at the
stats of the first half and they hadn't even accumulated

(13:31):
one hundred yards in one half worth of play. If
this is the second best team in the country, I
have to ask you, is NBSU number one, number two,
number three, and number four of the best teams in
the country.

Speaker 1 (13:45):
Well, to your point, Julius Lafferdge, they're great. Running back.
We averaged over one hundred yards per game was held
the ten attempts thirty eight yards three point eight yards
per carry on the ground. Part of that's because the
game got out of hand. He got kind of abandoned
the run game a little bit. I get that, but
they completely took him out of the game and that
was going to be the only route they really had
with a young quarterback in there. I want to get

(14:06):
your thoughts because you were there Belly of the Beast,
as you said, record setting crowd, one of the largest
a regular season game in FCS history. You were there
Dana J. Dikou Stadium mostly ever had in that stadium
for a football game, and it felt like to us
watching it, the crowd got really deflated. That the volume
went down and down with every third and long that

(14:28):
Cole Peyton would throw to Bryce Lance for a first down.

Speaker 7 (14:32):
Andy, I could not agree with you more. They tried
to do a big light show presentation at halftime or
it was just SDSU relegated themselves back to we are
the little brother Like it was just there was no
energy from the over nineteen thousand people that is there.

(14:54):
It's just and I don't I mean, I don't know
if this has to be dazoo. Is this good? Like
we as a as a Bison fan base are watching
a team that I think is on pace to be
one A, one B one C of the best teams
in Bison history. They just played so good in India

(15:16):
or SDSU fans, they were leaving in the middle of
the third quarter, like, what are we even doing here?
We can't move the ball, we can't take part in
this awesome light show.

Speaker 8 (15:27):
It was a blue out.

Speaker 7 (15:29):
I think the only blue they're going home with is
being blue in the face from being suffocated by the
NDAU Bison defense.

Speaker 1 (15:36):
They're holding their breath late, waiting to let out a roar.
I mean, is they are trying to find some reason
the year and that keep holding in the cheers. I
mean that blue in the face. Absolutely, I'm right there
with you. Hands appreciate you giving us a call. I
have a safe drive back. When are we getting back
to forego here?

Speaker 7 (15:52):
Well, we're staying the night. We're staying smart, we're staying
and ye we're staying tonight and then driving back in
the morning. So hopefully everything stays as it is, and
the jack Rabbit fans know that they are forever little brother.
Without us, they are nothing.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
Well, you've stayed sometimes before down there on Brookings, so
you know how it's been a night down there. Remember
that one vividly as well. Thanks for the call in
so we appreciate you. Enjoy the rest of your night.

Speaker 7 (16:21):
Thanks, buddy.

Speaker 9 (16:21):
There we go.

Speaker 1 (16:22):
We miss him, but he's down there in the belly
of the beast. One Chris Hanson nice enough to give
us a call. We're going to try and take a break.

we see you. We will get to you, guys right
after a break. Right when we come back. We'll have
your thoughts as the biders and win this one. Thirty

Speaker 20 (21:50):
Hey, guys, just driving back. You're at the family from
love It Brookings, the Sea of red tail lights. I
tell you a lot of guys coming back to Fargo.
A lot of great moments for me and NDSU history.
I was in Montana State last year, was there for
JMU in twenty nineteen, then there.

Speaker 5 (22:06):
For a lot.

Speaker 20 (22:07):
It's definitely ranked very high up there. But I gotta
say I'm gonna look at the negative side of things.
What did you guys think of the rushing game to night?
Just between between Rika and DJ Scott, they're only averaging
like three point two yards of carry and they only
had eighty total yards. What do you guys think we
need to improve that going forward?

Speaker 1 (22:26):
Okay, Drake, have a safe trip back there?

Speaker 5 (22:28):
What was it?

Speaker 1 (22:29):
What was the scene like ice conn? Okay, have a
safe trip back. We appreciate the phone call.

Speaker 4 (22:33):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (22:33):
Look at the rushing totals here. Yeah, Barrika thirteen carries,
thirty nine yards. I have a touchdown. Then there for
Barrika average of three yards per carry, and then he
got DJ Scott average of three point four yards per carry,
eleven attempts thirty seven yards. I guess I'm just I
can't be negative about he just won thirty eight to
seven over your rival, the number two team in the

(22:54):
entire country, and you know, march them off of the field.
Could you have ran it a little bit better? Yes?
I would say the strength of this SDSU defense is
their rushing defense. They've been pretty good there. Kobe Claiborne
is by far their best player. I think he had
a sack in this game. He's good. He's in the
middle of that defensive line didn't have a ton of
creases in the run game. But this series is always

(23:15):
about quarterback run game, and Cole Peyton seventeen attempts one
hundred and thirty seven yards and most of those were
designed runs. That is the running game. And I know
we're talking about the running back running game. That's not
a thing at NDSY. It's just the running game. And
with Cole Peyton, he is part that is part of

(23:36):
the running game. I'm not worried about the running game
at all. I mean, the Bison ran forty nine times
for two hundred and fifty seven yards over five yards
per carry. So if you look at just the running backs,
then okay, you have three and three point four, which,
by the way, if I get three point four yards
per carry every time or three point two if you
want to average it between them, then I'm gonna be
getting a first down every four times I run because

(23:58):
I'm gonna go for him fourth in inches, I'm gonna
get it, you know. So I'm fine with the totals.
There could be a little bit better for Barrika and DJ, yeah,
but it's not like either of them had twenty something carries.
I like to see maybe a few more creases in
that game, but it was always going to be the
plus one run game. With Cole Payton and seventeen attempts
one hundred and thirty seven yards, he becomes the first

(24:19):
Bison player to run for over one hundred yards in
Brookings since sam O Jury did it. So it's been
a long time since someone's gone down to Brookings that
had over one hundred yards rushing. Cole Payton able to
accomplish that feet tonight, and overall the Bison ran for
five point two yards per carry. All of that is
part of the running game. Let's go to Milt in Atlanta. Milt,

(24:41):
you're here with us on Bison Hotline. What do you
want to talk about?

Speaker 21 (24:44):
Hey, I'm a Bargonian originally YEP, and military veteran, and
I've seen a lot of buys in football over the
years because I started watching it when I was probably
eight years old and in like the late sixties. And
this is so fascinating to think about what has transpired.

(25:05):
And I'm so glad that we've got guys that come back.
And I'm thinking like Grand Olson, Carlton, Little John, Marcus Williams,
Samuel jury. It just seems to recycle and they just
want to keep it rolling. And I've never seen anything
like this in football. I sat down with Polisch at

(25:28):
a basketball game and we were, you know, talking back
and forth, and I just said, you know what, I
can't remember where he was going. It might have been
Northern Illinois or wherever he was going, and I said,
you know what, you're going to be back.

Speaker 4 (25:42):
And he is a heck of a coach.

Speaker 21 (25:44):
I just can't believe how good this staff and how
they keep it rolling.

Speaker 10 (25:51):
You know.

Speaker 21 (25:51):
That's that's all I wanted to say.

Speaker 1 (25:53):
Thank you, appreciate the time, thanks for joining us once again.
Loyal listener here on Bison Hotline was calling in He's right,
I mean, Tim Polisek. Look, it's not completely two years yet,
but so far in two years, two losses. One of
them was by a couple of yards against Colorado. Were
absolutely one hundred percent in that ballgame from start to finish,

(26:15):
and the other one was kind of a weird up
by two scores four minutes left at USD. Some fluky
things happened and the Yoats took absolutely took advantage of it.
They deserve credit for that win. But that was it
felt like an almost an eye wakening, eye opening opening
thing for NDSU right before the playoffs, and they were

(26:36):
fine and completely just walked through the playoffs really the
rest of the way. So there's only been two losses
in Tim Polasek's ten years so far. And also Tim
Polosek now three and zero against STSU coming off when
he joins as head coach. The longest losing trick you've
had against STSU in program history, We've lost five in

(26:57):
a row. He comes in, writes, the ship turns it aroud.
Two wins against one of the best SDSU teams they've
had last year. They were pretty well stacked. Maybe not
as well as tacked as a year before when they
won the national title in twenty three, but pretty darn
good team last year with a lot of seniors, a
very heavy senior class, and got the job done at

(27:17):
home thirteen to nine. Got the job done in the
playoffs as well at home, both huge wins. Tim paulsk
deserves a ton of credit for the way he has
continued to move this program forward. The passing game has
continued to evolve. We've seen just different life kind of
put into this program. For the community. I think that's
a big part of what coach p has done. He's

(27:40):
really gotten out of the community, really gotten them all
re engaged. COVID kind of zapped a little bit that
Jews that felt like, and the Fargodom has a little
bit more of that Jews the tailgating lot does. Just
going around town, you hear it more from people. And
it's not just for football. He's wanting to do it
for basketball and baseball and soccer once to get everybody
out there. Had players and himself going to a volleyball
game earlier this week. So he's definitely all in on

(28:01):
Bison athletics as a whole and deserves a ton of
credit for the way things are going here with the
football program. Obviously, it's got one more phone call in
here in this segment, Jim giving us a call on
the hot line. Jim, you're here with us on Bison Hotline.
How you doing, sir?

Speaker 8 (28:15):
Yeah, real good, go Bison. Well, I think it got
pretty chippy. They thought they were going to be able
to push us around and they found out real quick
that wasn't gonna work. And I think what Jimmy Rodgers
did to him, how you discerrated him, came home to
rest tonight.

Speaker 1 (28:31):
You're absolutely right, Jim, Yeah, we appreciate your call one
hundred percent. Right this, We were talking about it here
in studio while the game was going on. It felt
a little bit like NDSU versus SDSU in twenty twenty
two in the the well the twenty twenty three championship game.
You went into the game and I think we, even

(28:51):
as Bison fans, kind of admitted, hey, they got the
better team. They just do. Yet you had that sense
of we're good, We've got good players. We can absolutely
win this game. But you go down the position groups
and sie quarterback probably leans them, running back, maybe leans them.
Offensive line with their experience, kind of leans them receivers,
and it's just like you said, we're gonna to make
up some ground on talent and going into this game,

(29:14):
SDSU knew all week Chase Mason ain't playing right. They
closed practice, they did everything they could to keep that
under wraps, and rightfully so gamesmanship. I totally get that,
one hundred percent. Don't let everybody know that the hand
you have, but they knew all all week, Okay, we're
gonna have to overcome some serious adversity because we were
already kind of behind the eight ball because yeah, Jimmy

(29:35):
Rodgers left and he kind of took everything in the
kitchen sink with him when he left, right, vast majority
of players and some of their young talent too. The
best in the portal to bring a bunch of players
in and kind of fill in some depth, and some
of the young players, it did stay like we're gonna
develop you and raise you up a little bit. They've
done their best to do it and credits them there
seven and zero rightfully, Soap, I had of thought that

(29:57):
they could they could win this game, but I got
the going into the week, SDSU fans and the coaching
staff done the for SDSU said, man, we're probably not
the more talented team on paper. Look at the Bison receivers,
and we like our receivers at SDSU, but I mean
they're not Bryce. There's not they're not Raja. Those players
are just they're more seniored, they're more veteran. They've been

(30:19):
there and done that. And Bryce is probably gonna be
a second round draft pick, if not potentially higher after
what he's been doing this year. Then you look at
you know defensive line. Keenan Wilson. Even without Jackson, Duton
have for really good look on the offensive line. I
just think that the Bison had a slight edge there.
They absolutely were going to have an edgic quarterback regardless.
But then when Chase Mason goes out and they know
that all week, it's like, well, now we've got this

(30:39):
this to overcome too. The only way they were going
to win this game was if Julius Loffridge could kind
of carry them on. That running game could really take
hold for SDSU. The buyers are able to limit that.
They had negative three total yards and negative three rushing
yards in the first quarter, and without a quarterback that
could really threaten you by pushing the ball down the field.

(31:01):
Grant Olsen, the company just teed off on him, brought pressure,
made him uncomfortable, and won this game pretty convincingly. But
it was also just pushed them around on the defense
of an offensive lines. Phil Hanson mentioned that a lot
on the call, they were just getting serious push up
front with the offensive line. All those quarterback runs, even
the running back ones, they were getting great push and
they were getting down the field a little bit, especially

(31:22):
in that plus one run game with Cole Payton. He
was phenomenal. Leads the Bison was seventeen attempts on the
ground one hundred and thirty seven yards and four rushing
touchdowns two touchdowns of over forty yards on the ground,
including one of fifty seven yards. He was phenomenal. We
gotta take another break. Plenty more breaks to come. Your
thoughts welcome seven zero, one, four, seven six, sixteen sixty.

He just ran and ran untouched on the scramble. Fifty

(36:43):
seven yards touchdown Bison, twenty seven to seven.

Speaker 1 (36:47):
Good guys, twenty seven to seven, good guys, indeed, Sam Niederman,
and it would get even more good guys from their
thirty eight seven the final in this one most lapsided
score into to marker game and it goes in favor
of the bys and bringing the rock back up here
to Fargo, probably already strapped into a seat, good buckles

(37:08):
in place, and they're gonna bring the thing back in
to the trophy case again, back here with you on
Byes in hotline. And of course that highlight right there,
the fifty seven yard rushing touchdown for Cole Peyton. That
is our Northern Vapor and CBD highlight of the game.
North and Vapor and CBD in Downtown Fargo, South Fargo,
Osgood and Bamigie. Life's too short for watered down choices

(37:29):
experienced the best at Northland Vapor and CBD. What a
massive play that one. Was for NDSU if you remember
byes and score on their first three possessions, they're up
twenty one to nothing. Then they forced SDSU off the
field again, got the ball back, but went three and
out themselves. Bad pit punt by Aaron Bickerton and set

(37:51):
them up with a really short field trick play which
STSU has always got a trick player two in the
bag for a game like this. They got that one
and then one play later Luke Marble passed to they
got their touchdown right, so twenty one seven's a score, Bison,
get the ball back like that. That was the one
little bit of momentum for SDSU in the first half,
little bit of glamour of hope. They converted a third down,

(38:14):
got the ball I believed to Bryce Lance on that
third down there converted it and then a couple of
plays later Cole Payton to the left side, untouched, was
not touched by a fingernail by a Jackrabitt defender. All
the way gone and went from twenty one to seven.
We could get a stop, get this ball back, maybe
you score. And also in one possession game to twenty

(38:36):
eight seven, we get the ball to start the second half.
You guys can start heading for the exits if you
would like to hear at Dana J. Dikou Stadium. Huge
play right there for NDYSU to really open things up
once again. Back to that three score lead, and it
was one of three rushing touchdowns in the first half
for Cole Peyton on Northland Vapor and CBD highlight of

(38:57):
the game, Andy Ricuff, Nick Branda Muir with it in
our Bides and Sports Studios. Awesome play right there, Nick,
you're watching it here live. That felt like a man
take the heart, take the soul of all the jack
Erber faithful that were out there hoping their team could
maybe make a comeback, maybe spark something. It felt like
the Bison, specifically Cole Payton, just took it away from them.

Speaker 27 (39:17):
That's what Bison football has been doing for you know,
fifteen fifteen plus years, is taking the soul away.

Speaker 10 (39:22):
You know.

Speaker 27 (39:23):
I feel like, how fast you think col Payton is
Would you take the over?

Speaker 28 (39:27):
Well?

Speaker 1 (39:28):
I love the question from Phil that's your forty yard
dash time and cold. Payton said, we'll find out a
pro day basically, but.

Speaker 27 (39:34):
Are you taking the over under on four point five?

Speaker 1 (39:38):
I'll take the under?

Speaker 27 (39:39):
Take an under on forty.

Speaker 1 (39:41):
Yeah, four to four something, Okay, I think you can
get that. I think you can.

Speaker 8 (39:44):
I think.

Speaker 1 (39:46):
Tim Polasek told us on the Coaches Show earlier this week,
which is locally and Fargo over at the holiday and
encourage everyone to come out to it. It's Thursday nights,
six thirty to eight. Come out here from coach, p
assistant coach, couple of players. It's a great time. Got
an eight dollars burger basket, burger, beer and fries for
eight bucks. Doesn't get better than that over at the holiday.
And we're talking with the coach, Paul Sick about Cole

(40:09):
Payton and he said, you know, early on they the
scouts were talking to me about Cole Payton as could
you play tight end? Could he play linebacker? He great athlete,
can hit his big body. Could he play linebacker? And
he said, the last two weeks we've had a significant
amount of scouts that have come back, some have come
back for a second time and said, what about quarterback?

(40:30):
You think he can really do at the next level.
He's opening eyes up there. We said that after I
think it was the Simo game we were at Applebee's. Myself,
Chris Hansen and Jay Calva on Bison Hotland, which is
typically at Applebee's after every game, come out there for
postgame show, and I said, you know what, Walter Payton Award,
he could do it, you know, maybe get drafted. He

(40:50):
could do it. And Cole and Chris looked at me
like or sorry, Jake and Chris looked at me, and
he like, ah, they might be jumping the gun a
little bit. Not anymore. That guy he can run away from.
He proved that tonight. He absolutely can run away from
linebackers and even some safeties. Now NFL is different, Clearly,
NFL safeties and linebackers are freaks, and they can run
just as fast as coal, if not faster. But he

(41:13):
can run away. He's got a big enough body to
absorb some contact, absorb some hits. And for the most part,
he was very, very accurate tonight. I know he had
an interception that was one that sailed on him, got
it correct. That's back to back games with an interceptions.
He'll be better there. But he had some that were
layered right in there, had some third and very long.
So he found his guy with Bryce Lance. They were
on the same page all night long. Continued to convert

(41:36):
when it mattered the most had some deep shots in
there as well. I know Noah Gindorf said this, but
this felt like his Walter Payton moment. It felt like it.
If you want me to jump the gun again. I
think after this year they might change it to the
Coal Payton Award. I might just have to still be
the Peyton kind of works.

Speaker 27 (41:51):
I don't think you're jumping a gun by saying, you know,
Walter Payton, you know not anymore. That's that's that's been
a few weeks now.

Speaker 1 (41:57):
If yeah, oh yeah, maybe in Simo week three they're like, oh,
that might be a little bit of a stretch. But
here in week eight or week nine really with the
bye week, but eight games in by no means he's
the front runner. Yeah, you can say what you want
about anybody else. I mean, he beat Djay Williams. Head up.
We'll see Bob Brunguard, who I think is in the
discussion as well with Youngstown State. The guy's putting up

(42:17):
video game numbers. We'll see him next week in the
Fargo Dome. You could decide that one right there and
put him out of the conversation. The quarterback Derek Robertson
from Monmouth, I believe is hurt. I'll see if he
got back in the game this week from Monmouth. But
if he's hurt, there goes his chances. The only other
person really stands in your way. Because Chase Mason is
hurt in this game, didn't play anything that's gonna hurt
his chances for sure, and who knows if he's gonna
be able to get back. Hope he does, but we

(42:39):
don't know for sure. He's in a boot. That doesn't
sound like I'm gonna be back in a week.

Speaker 12 (42:43):
You know.

Speaker 1 (42:44):
The only other person really stands in his way. It's
up North. Yeah, Jerry Kaminski absolutely is the the running
for that one hundred percent, and he should be. He's
put up some crazy numbers too. He's looked great, and
they're on a trajectory to be a really, really good
team and potentially make that game. I think I want
me to jump the gun in two weeks. We're all
talking about game day for this one game day in

(43:05):
Grand Forks. That could be a top five matchup. I
hate to say it, but that U and D could
be fifth in the country at that point. It's not unrealistic.

Speaker 27 (43:15):
That's a pretty insane place to play. I feel like
that's a loud stadium, loud atmosphere to me, a lot of.

Speaker 1 (43:22):
Aim game day likes, game day like storylines. As much
as we all wanted them to be in Brookings for
this once Dakota Marker, you've got to highlight it. They
had highlighted the Dakota Marker game already in Brookings in
twenty nineteen they ran Brookings for the Dakota Marker game
and it was a highly anticipated game. Then they've never
been to Grand Forks. They've never highlighted NDSU un D

(43:46):
which goes back a long long ways too. There's no
trophy for it now, so for years, we gotta get
a trophy for this thing. We gotta do something. But
with the way they're playing up there, we'll go through
the jiffy Luepfargo scoreboard. But the one dominantly again today
it was against Indiana State. They should have won dominantly.
But the way they've played this year, that's setting up
to be potentially a top five or top six matchup

(44:06):
and the winner of that one win in the valley.
I mean that's a storyline as well. So we're looking
ahead two weeks the slate in the top twenty five,
it ain't super sexy, especially with teams like LSU getting
thumped tonight. Like I think it's Alabama LSU. Okay, Well,
LSU might be out of the top twenty five after
this week. There's a chance. So I think there's a

(44:30):
real possibility in a couple of weeks, NDSU, U and
d might get the spotland in college game. And if
that does happen, Bison fans invade that city, get over
there and just take it over if you can. It
would be a lot of fun to see how that
one were to pan out. But thirty eight seven the
Bison get the win over SDSU tonight they improved to
eight and now five and oh in the Valley SDSU

(44:51):
with the last day and now seven and one three
in one in Missouri Valley Football Conference play. We'll take
another break back with plenty more of bies on hotline.
We got some text to to, some comments on Facebook.
We'll get to as many of those as we can
when we come back on the other side.

We always try and differentiate ourselves, like you know, the
network picks a guy. We like to pick someone a
little bit different and be off the beaten path, the
beaten path, the unbeaten path, whatever path it took. It

(50:47):
led to victory for NDSU because Cole Peyton was leading
the way down said path. He was phenomenal in this game.
You look at his final stats for the Bison quarterback
here eight of twenty three, two hundred and forty three yards.
I only had to throw it I think seven times
in the second half because the Bison are out by
so much. No touchdowns passing and had an interception. Okay,

(51:09):
but seventy eight percent completion percentage a rating of one
to fifty eight point three. And here's the kicker on
the ground. Seventeen carries one hundred and thirty seven yards
an average of eight point one per carry, a lot
of it designed quarterback run in four rushing touchdowns. He
becomes the first player since sam O Jury all the
way back in twenty thirteen to have over one hundred

(51:31):
yards on the ground in Brookings. Happened last with Samuel
Jerry nineteen carries one hundred and thirteen yards in Brookings
twenty thirteen, and that game was also a nice score
on the finish for NDSU. They shut the jack Roberts
out that game twenty to nothing. The Bison went by
more in this one thirty eight to seven, only give

(51:52):
up a touchdown on a short field to the Jackrabbits
in this ballgame, Andy Rickoff back here with you also
Nick Brenda Mule in our studio, col Lilanimi as well.
Bisen win dominantly, they will stay number one. The interesting
discussion will be how far will SDSU drop. They'll be
behind Abling Christian, they'll be behind Montana, will they fall

(52:13):
behind Montana State, who they did go out to Bozeman
and beat in the non conference if it had been
a close game, I'd say, now they'll still be ahead
of them thirty eight seven, and now your quarterbacks kind
of up in the air health wise. That does factor
in kind of voting a little bit unfortunately, like is
he going to be back? How healthy is he going
to be well? That probably for me would put them

(52:36):
behind Montana State. I'd probably slot them in at five.
NDSU Abilene Christian, Montana, Montana State. SDSU feels like that
what's gonna happen? Most likely in the polls, there'll be
some that say you can't put it behind Montana State.
They beat Montana State. That was all the way back
in Week two. Opinions can change. That game, can't be
the only decider for the rest of the season. This

(52:59):
game was definitely much more decisive than their win out
in Bozeman. It's gotta count for something a little bit too.
I think it's probably gonna end up with the Jackribbit's
there at five. Doesn't mean it's gonna end that way.
You know, they're gonna have a chance to go to
Grand Forks and win and get a marquee when we
move up. Obviously, Montana Montana State play each other, so
one of them is gonna fall back when they lose
to the other in that game too, so other things

(53:19):
will happen. As of right now, probably at that four
or for me, I think the five spot for SDSU
when the next pull comes out. Let's get to some
of our comments on the bides in sixteen sixty facebook page.

Speaker 9 (53:31):
Here.

Speaker 1 (53:31):
First gave me put up the post each and every game,
what do you make of the win for NDSU, because well,
they're undefeated this season, so we haven't had to do
anything other than that so far. And then this one
it's what are your thoughts on NDSU's thirty eight to
seven win over the jack ribbits over SDSU tons of
comments here already, first one Brandon Anderson saying I didn't

(53:54):
see that coming. I'm on record somewhere on Facebook expecting
a brawl, not a blowout. If these two teams meeting
the playoffs with Mason back for the Jacks, it's likely
gonna be a lot closer. Until then the marker is
coming back to its rightful home for another year. I
do want to say this, feel for Chase Mason. You
wait around for a while, you think I'm gonna wait

(54:15):
my turn be a starting quarterback. Everyone wants to make
an impact in this game. It means so much to
both schools, both programs, to all the players to not
be able to play. And it had to be killing
him because again, he knew it all week. You probably
knew it on Tuesday or Wednesday, like, Hey, I'm gonna try,
I'm gonna give it everything, but just I'm not gonna
be a go You know it's more than likely, right

(54:37):
unless something miraculous happens overnight. Somehow, feel for the kid
a little bit. Wish you could play and again, you
want to beat this team at their strength because sts
ufens just gonna say, you know, what we did in
Chase Mason doesn't really count. We're never a quarterback, not
the case. All counts the same. And again, Chase Mason
was't gonna be playing defense. But if you see him
aget in the playoffs and he's back, obviously it's a
very very different game. It wasn't tonight. If you're you

(55:00):
just have to take advantage of whatever opportunities flow your way. Also,
let's keep in mind meeting the playoffs was a good chance.
Jackson Duton effers back for NDSU. Makai Collins too. They're
gonna make a small impact, probably a bigger impact as
well for Jackson Duton effort on that defensive line. But yeah,
not having Chase Mason definitely changed things for STSU. Danny says,

(55:21):
only team that can beat the Bison is themselves. We've
said it a couple of times. Absolutely agree. Brett says, goodbye, Bunnies,
there you go, bye bye for another year. The Rock
coming back home. Bob says, very impressive how the offensive
line came out strong from the start to set the tone.
Backs ran and blocked hard Cole and the receivers were
clutched several times. Jackson Williams had enough room to make

(55:44):
some good kick returns. So happy for Cole to perform
in such a high level, at such a high level,
in a high profile game. Defense made a lot of
really really good plays. Just good overall team effort right
there with you, Bob. Nothing to really complain about. I'm
sure the coachings have will find some things. Probably penalties,
say penalties, that's six of them in this game. Some

(56:06):
false starts put them behind the chains a couple of times,
but able to overcome some adversity on some long third
and long some second and like fifteen second and seventeen's
and all of a sudden you get half of it
and then you get third and eight or so you
get the first down. Those are just demoralizing for opposing defenses.
Aaron Irwin says, big ten win right there. Yeah, we

(56:30):
saw a certain big ten team across a river here
in Forego. If you go across the Red River, I
think they put up three points a day against Iowa
the Gophers did. There's definitely some talk about that amongst
Bison fans today too. What a dominating win. Bison Nation
has been waiting for this for a minute. From DJ
out there on our Facebook page as well. And then
we've got Jason says chat GPT is predicting a Bison

(56:52):
win for this year's championship. Put it into chat GPT
right now. I think after this one, just about every
publication you can find and probably have the Beisen predicted
to win the championship. Then you got Matt Aminson sane
FBS go up. That happens every single week, Dylan or Dalen.
Sorry says Cole had a big game. I think you

(57:13):
had a Walter Payton type game today as well. Thanks
for all those comments there on our Facebook page. Keep
them coming. We'll get to as many of those ones
as we can. Time for another break for us, and
we'll break come back and give you more breakdown of
this dominant win thirty eight to seven for endsu over
the jack Rabbits.

Speaker 3 (01:01:53):
Buyson got up the Paniels staling at count the cast lane.
They Comebine for the sack all the way back to
the twenty six and they shut down the jack rabbit drive.
Bison forced to stop and I'll be an Scsu put
within five minutes to play the third.

Speaker 1 (01:02:10):
Sack right there Andysu getting to Luke Marble and getting
in the backfield quite often. Tonight. Bison had four sacks
in this game, Logan Larson with one, Nathaniel Staling, Logan
cop and Anthony Shademi Alfara cornerback getting on the sack
game right, they're going to ask him aout. That gonna
be his first sack as a Bizon. Go back and

(01:02:32):
look in the archives on that one. So four sacks,
also five tackles for loss. All four of those guys, obviously,
the other one being Donovan Woolan, had a tackle for
loss in this game. Donovan Woollen leads them in tackles
nine tackles tonight, six of them solo had that one TfL,
seven tackles for Logan cop three solo had the sack
and a TfL. He was phenomenal. Nathaniel Staling right there

(01:02:55):
with the sack also had a pass breakup in this game.
I'm telling you, man, this linebacker corps is probably the best,
the best unit in the FCS.

Speaker 4 (01:03:06):
Now.

Speaker 1 (01:03:06):
I don't watch every other team. I don't know every
other unit the depth of them. But give me a
unit that has all the players in it, because there's
three linebackers in there. Those are the three. Tell me
to someone that's that playing better than those three linebackers
right now, I just I'm hard pressed to believe there's
a unit playing better than the Bison linebackers as a

(01:03:26):
whole right now. Big part of that I give credit
to the d line in front of them, especially at
night like tonight. No Jackson, Duton have forer right, wasn't
gonna be out there. Zach Vanderpool did play, gave it
a go, probably was on a bit of a snap count.
Was able to give them some good minutes, some good snaps.
But Keenan, Wilson, Logan Larsen, We're gonna get a lot

(01:03:47):
of play in this game. They absolutely did, and they
came through Logan Larson at a sack early on. Look
at Keenan Wilson's final stat line, it's not gonna jump
jump out yet because he doesn't even have a tackle.
But go back and watch the film and see how
many times was he double teamed? How many times was
he the one drawing all the attention? How many times
did he not get pushed back on a run play,
maybe push the running back to have to jump out
of a line or jump out of the spot he

(01:04:09):
wanted to run down. There was a lot of times
Keenan Wilson was still disrupting plays, even though it doesn't
show up as much in the stat sheet. Before we
go any further, let's pause ten seconds for station identification.

(01:05:59):
six six teen sixty. Carl's answering the question from Phil
Hanson during the game. They were talking about I think
there was a ball that hit somebody right in the
bread basket, and Phil is like, bread basket. Where did
that come from? What do we call it the bread basket?
Carl and Vero Beach says, abdominal area called bread basket
because it's where the bread and other food goes when eaten.

(01:06:21):
Mostly was back in the seventeen hundred. We actually looked
that thing up, looked up the whole history of why
it's called the bread basket during the show today. But
thanks for the clarification there, Carl. Another text here coming
Bizon putting the whooping into ours whooping tonight. Happy Halloween
to the jackrabbits. sEH I'd say mostly you got toothbrushes
for Halloween. If you were a jackerb today, you gotta

(01:06:43):
go toothbrush, maybe some dental floss. That's all you got
in your basket. Tadak the Polish binds and chiming in
on this one as well, says hello, gentlemen, I know
we've played against this school from South Dakota, but it
looked more like we played against Dakota State University than SDSU.
This was a complete domination and well deserved win. Congratulations

(01:07:03):
to the coaches and players. Mister Peyton played at an
exceptional level tonight and we are very lucky to witness
this quarterback, this quarterback of such a great combination of
athleticism and smart play. Go Bison from Tadek the Polish
Bisen chiming in on the text line, Yeah, that number
nine is pretty good. I think we've learned that one.

(01:07:25):
That one we know. I think at this point you
have a very good sense of who he is. I
still cannot believe go back to the first two weeks
of the season and the amount of people that said
we should play a Nathan A's and that's not a
shot at Nathan A's I think he's gonna be really good,
and it's fun to see him get some action in
this game there late but cool. Peyton is special and
he's been waiting his turn. Happy for a guy who
sat there and waited when he could have gone other places,

(01:07:47):
especially in this era, to be able to go out
there and play in such a dominant fashion again tonight,
it was fun to see him do his thing. He
just again was in that flow state, wasn't really hampered
by oh it's a third, and long didn't really get
flustered by those situations. I think he only took one
sack in the game to just really good stuff from
number nine out there, and he did what our guy

(01:08:07):
Ian Longton wants him to do. Nick, get the ball
to your best players. I was his key, Just get
the ball to the best players. He did that tonight,
which is really good to see. One more here. Becky,
chiming in on the text line as well, says, when
was the last time anyone held South Dakota State to
seven points? That's a great question, Becky. I do not
know that. At the top of my head. It has

(01:08:29):
to have been a while. I can tell you this
one tonight snapped SDSU's thirty three game home winning streak,
the longest in program history for SDSU. They snapped our
long home winning streak of thirty two games. I believe
it was we snapped there is tonight all great stuff
to snap that one and have it be the Bison

Speaker 3 (01:13:09):
Williams, Harris and Nelson Chuck s Botch on the right
last solo up snap to Peyton rush Is on fires
left down.

Speaker 1 (01:13:16):
It's caught by Bryce.

Speaker 3 (01:13:18):
Lance twisting down to the check grabbing eleven yard line.

Speaker 1 (01:13:22):
Wow, he's at it once again.

Speaker 3 (01:13:25):
Gate of twenty four cold up, Bryce back shoulder backbreaker
on third down once again.

Speaker 1 (01:13:32):
Absolutely love the way that one's described right there by
Sam Niederman. The back shoulder back breaker once again Bryce Lance.
In this game five receptions one hundred three yards. All
of that came in the first half. He did not
have a catch in half number two, and four of
those five receptions were on third downs, huge ones, including

(01:13:54):
that one right there. Twenty ends up being a twenty
six yard game. It was a third and sixteen play,
third and sixteen. NDSU already had scored, They had the
lead already there in the first quarter. They were up
seven and nothing felt pretty good in a good spot.
But third and sixteen Jacker at thirty six, You think, Okay,
this is the I think the third best third down

(01:14:16):
conversion defense in the country. With SDSU, they have not
been allowing opponents to convert on third down very often
throughout the game or throughout the season. I should say
they were holding in teams to twenty seven percent conversions
on third down, which was the third best mark in
the country. So third best defensive third down conversion team
in the country. Anythink in third and sixteen, there's no

(01:14:37):
way ndbsu's converting this one on us and Cole Peyton
finds Price Lance and there's a first down, and that
one you could hear it in the crowd. You can
hear it in that call that there's just a yelling
or roar and then it's just the ugh and it's
just that slowly every time the BIS converted a third down,
because then converted on two third downs on the opening

(01:14:57):
drive included a third and eight and then you can
I ordered a third and sixteen on the second drive
and that one ends up leading to another touchdown for
the Biers and on a Cole Payton keeper just a
few plays later, just so deflating and Bryce Lance, they
just can't cover them. They try to do it one
on one a couple of times. They had some bracket
help over the top a few times, and just nothing worked.

(01:15:19):

I'm first down in ten play answered Marble drops a
throw under pressure, gobbled up and take it down for
the sack down.

Speaker 1 (01:21:00):
He goes Hey, guess who got him?

Speaker 3 (01:21:02):
Anthony should have me alfarow the corners, registering the third
second of the game for the Bison back to.

Speaker 1 (01:21:10):
The thirty loss of ten. Anthony should have me Alfaro
with the sack right there, one of four bones and
sacks on the evening as NDSU goes on to win
thirty eight to seven over their arrivals South Dakota State,
the most lop sided victory for NDSU in this rivalry
since before the Dakota Marker was a thing. They the

(01:21:32):
most lops that have win for the Bison over the Jacker,
but since nineteen ninety two, and the most lops that
have went in Dakota Marker history. And for Anthony should
have me Alfaro his first sack I believe of the season.
And I go back and I look so definitely his
first sack of the season, I can tell you that.
And I believe his first sack of his Bison career. Yes,
it is first sack of his Bison career. There we go.

(01:21:54):
We got one for the cornerback. I'm gonna have to
ask Grant Olson about that one. How do we dial
up the old the cornerback blitz? There for Aca coming
in and get one of the four sacks for the
Bison of the Jacrebet quarterback in this game again Luke
Marble got the start at least Jack Henry kind of
the running quarterback a few times as well. Nothing they
they used really worked. Went through some of the stats

(01:22:15):
already earlier on here on Bison Hotline, a few of them,
again just very briefly for you. When you look at
the comparisons, some of them really stand out to you.
Total yards five hundred to one, sixty six two point
fifty seven to forty three in rushing yards two forty
three to one twenty three in passing yards average per

(01:22:35):
rush five point two for ENDSU, one point five for SDSU.
In this game, the Bison totaled nine rushing first downs
total of twenty two to eleven in first downs. They
double them up on first downs gained in the ball game.
Time of possession thirty eight to twenty two in this

(01:22:56):
contest thirty eight oh three to twenty one fifty seven,
but thirty eight to two basically, and that spot and
red zone opportunities NDSU three of three twenty one points
in the red zone. SDSU only got in the red
zone once they did score a touchdown one of one there.
But third down conversions, the Bison were nine of sixteen
over fifty percent on third down in the game. SDSU,

(01:23:19):
on the other hand, three of eleven, plus you add
in fourth downs, the Bison were three on three of
three on fourth downs, including a touchdown on fourth and
goal that Jakobs wentzho of two on fourth downs in
this game. The one thing you can point to six
penalties for fifty five yards compared to four penalties for
twenty three yards for SDSU. And the turnovers the first

(01:23:39):
time since I don't even know the last time the
team that won the game lost the turnover battle, because
I know it didn't happen last year. I know it
didn't happen in the previous five meetings, so you might
have to go back to like twenty nineteen, maybe twenty
eighteen to find the last time a team lost the
turnover battle. Because the Bison did. They had one turnover,
didn't force one, but they still won the game, So

(01:24:01):
lost to turn over battle, but still won the ball game.
I take a quick look at our Jiffy loeue before
Goo scoreboard, though here on binds a hotline go across
the Missouri Valley Football Conference here first. Obviously, NDSU gets
the win here over SDSU dominant fashion. They stay undefeated,
still very much in the hunt here for a Valley title.
SDSU is kind of out of it because they're going

(01:24:21):
to need NDSU to lose twice and I just don't
think that's going to happen. But Illinois State kept their
playoff hopes alive with a win down in Vermilion against
us D. Illinois State's now five and three, two and
two in Missouri Valley Play. Tommy Rittenhouse in this game
did have three touchdowns. They win twenty one to thirteen
at USD. If they had lost that game. With losses
against USD, you NDSU and Youngstown State just was not

(01:24:45):
going to be a very good look. So they keep
themselves at least at five hundred. In Valley Play. Youngstown
State gets a win at home against Murray State fifty
one to seventeen. Murray's now oh to eight still haven't
gotten their first Missouri Valley Football Conference win. Youngstown State
five and three, two and two in Valley Play. Bob
Brunguard two hundred and forty eight yards passing on twenty
two of twenty five passing with two passing touchdowns, fifteen

(01:25:09):
carries for sixty four yards and two touchdowns. That was
against Murray State. Give your credit there, but last week
he had over five hundred total yards of offense by
himself and five touchdowns against Illinois State. Bob Brunguard is
going to be topic A, B and C next week
when we're talking about the Bison hosting the Youngstown State Penguins,

(01:25:30):
who will come in with a five and three record
or six and three record part of me, and they
will be three and two in Missouri Valley Football Conference play.
Southern Illinois thirty one seventeen win over Northern Iowa snaps
the Suluki's two game losing streak. DJ Williams one hundred
and ninety yards and two touchdowns through the air there
for Southern Illinois and un D wins forty six seventeen

(01:25:51):
at home against Indiana State. Jerry Kaminski, who I guess
they're calling Jerry football three hundred yards exactly through the
air on twenty two of thirty four passing four passing touchdowns.
Sawyer Sidel fourteen carries, one hundred four yards and a
touchdown on the ground there for the Fighting Hawks who
improve to six and two and now four and oh
in Missouri Valley Football Conference play. I'm telling you, folks,

(01:26:15):
that has the potential of being a top six or
even top five matchup when NDSU goes up to Grand
Forks in a couple of weeks game days, it's gonna
be on game days radar. Are they gonna go there
with the find out? When you look at the other
games that were going on across the country, there's a
few that could be appealing to them, but they involve
teams like Missouri that lost today. It's gonna be outside

(01:26:37):
the top twenty LSU that lost today decisively, and maybe
is even outside the top twenty five by this point
next week. So there's there's a chance NDSU UND gets
a spotlight on college game day in a couple of weeks.
I think it's gonna be a heck of a football
game out in the Big Sky. Quick look at the
Big Sky tonight. We know what happened on Friday night.
Montana won by two scores at Sack State. The Panda

(01:27:00):
as they were called, went in and just show lacked
what I'm calling the Mosquitoes Sack State Mosquitos instead of hornets.
I guess i'd be funny. They're like doctor Luke. Would
they won forty nine thirty five tonight though UC Davis
beats Northern Colorado twenty seven sixteen? You see Davis now
six and one. Would they be ahead of SDSU four
and oh in the Big Sky? That one would be interesting.

(01:27:20):
I don't think they will be. That's one that I
think some people might have some disagreements on. Idaho beats
Portland State forty five to six. Win for Eastern Washington
against Weaber State twenty three to twenty. Also a win
for Montana State was close at half thirteen to three
against cal Pauly, but Montana State score is twenty one
points in the second half and they win thirty four

(01:27:42):
seventeen over cal paul In. Montana State six and two,
four and oh. Though in Big Sky play we know
those two losses one against Oregon one at home against SDSU.
Nick brendanmull I ask you here quickly, would you have
SDSU ranked ahead or behind Montana State.

Speaker 27 (01:28:00):
I'm gonna go I'm gonna go behind. I feel like
I like your five spot that you mentioned earlier. I
feel like the five range Montana State just hitting that
four would be kind of my range.

Speaker 1 (01:28:11):
So I know Montana or SDSU beat Montana State, right
m Bozman. I got to count for something, right If
it was the end of the year, sure change. Yeah,
but that was week number two. This isn't a final
ranking a final draft. This is how teams are playing
right now. SDSU, your quarterback's kind of hurt. We don't
know how long that injury is gonna be. It just
lost by thirty one points at home. SDSU did go

(01:28:31):
out to Bozeman and one that was a double overtime game.
I'd probably have Montana State ahead of them right now.
Me personally, it'd be very interesting to see what the
top twenty five looks like on Monday, for sure. But
there you go. Montana State gets a win over cal
Pauly thirty four to seventeen. That's a look at our

Time formation with warmire the pullback. Here's the snap hand
on Rika running left side and he's in touchdown Bison
Rika pew in the XSO with a two yard touchdown
and the Bison continue to absolutely march here at Brookies

(01:33:41):
a perfect start to the first half. Prika in and
it's twenty to nothing in DSU. What ten fifty five
before the break?

Speaker 1 (01:33:50):
Another thing that was silenced in this dominant win for
INDSU was I guess the quote unquote theme of the
last couple weeks. Fans like to point out to every
one of the slow starts. Slow start against Illinois State,
I don't really think it was. You're facing a good
team after their plays, coming off a bye week, they
were well prepared for you. You got some good players.

(01:34:11):
Slow start against Southern Illinois again, I don't like think
it's a slow start. You had to lead at half.
They're a good team with a good coach, knows what
he's doing. They're probably gonna score on that opening drive.
Bison held them the three points. I was fine with it,
but yes, definitely a slow start against Indiana State last week,
only up by three and a half not the case
this week. They were out the gate gates a blaze

(01:34:32):
in this one. Bison win thirty eight to seven. And
the first couple possessions for each team here you go
SDSU three and out. Bison then get the ball, goes
sixteen plays, nine minutes, eighty four yards for a touchdown.
The next drive for SDSU, they go three and out,

(01:34:52):
did not move the football. They punt it had negative
eight yards on that drive. NDSU's second possession they get
a touchdown on five I plays sixty three yards exactly
three minutes time of possession. SDSU gets the ball back
for their third possession, they gained five yards. They were
three and out again just twenty seven seconds they had
the ball. That's one of the reasons their defense was

(01:35:14):
struggling so much. They just weren't off the field long enough.
They were right back out there again each and every time.
That's one of the ways you're talking about Chase Mason
being back. Yeah, he doesn't stop the defense from giving
up thirty eight points, but he probably helps the defense
get off the field a little bit longer and gives
him a chance to catch their breath. But three and
out again. The first three possessions for SDSU were nine

(01:35:34):
plays for a total of two yards. On those first
three possessions, the Byson down their their third third possession,
seven plays, sixty eight yards, three minutes, forty eight seconds,
ends in a touchdown. Couldn't have been a faster start
if you tried, than what the Bison did in that
opening quarter and plus a couple of minutes there to

(01:35:54):
start off this game and take a commanding twenty one
to nothing lead. They're going to win it thirty eight
to seven. All the drives for SDSU punt on three plays,
punt on three plays, punt on three plays, punt on
four plays. They got one there. A touchdown took him
two plays, forty three yards twenty eight seconds, then a punt,
a punt, turnover on downs, turnover on downs. I think
it's pretty good stuff from Code Green. Would not have

(01:36:16):
expected them to hold SDS two to seven points coming
into the season, not even coming into this game, not
knowing the quarterback situation. I thought they'd still be able
to move the ball loft fridge would be good. Other
offensive line had some guys on it. They're gonna use
their tight ends. It just wasn't the case. The bidies
and all that stuff sniffed out a lot of credit
to the depth of the rotation on the defensive line
for NDSU. They showed up in a big way in

(01:36:39):
this game. They dominated thirty eight to seven from start
to finish. Final thoughts overall, that really is it. This
is a Walter Payton moment though for Cole Payton to
do what he did in Enemy Territory nationally televised game.
We'll get the numbers on that probably Sunday evening or
Monday morning. We'll get those numbers on how many people
watch and all this kind of stuff. But it's on

(01:37:00):
an ESPN platform, So no matter how many people watch
this as a national stage, nationally televised game, we know
it's a huge game. It's on the road Enemy Territory
in front of a sold out crowd, the largest crowd
they've had in their history, and Cole Payton goes in
there and runs for four touchdowns and over one hundred yards.
The first guy to run for over one hundred yards
first player period to do it in Brookings since Samo

(01:37:22):
Jurie in twenty thirteen goes down there and absolutely balls
out in South Dakota in Brookings and beats the jacker.
But it's thirty eight to seven. And then this Bison defense,
we said, like in September, Okay, it's great. We gotta wait,
you can't be comparing this thing. It's just you know,
it's a citadel at Tennessee State. It's Simo, it's USDs.
Maybe isn't that good this year? And we found out

(01:37:42):
they really aren't. Gotta wait. Okay, well they did pretty
well again against Illinois State against Southern Illinois. Did find
only one touchdown allowed against Indiana State. Now at this
point we can start having the conversation when you go
to Brookings and hold SDSU to one touchdown that was
really because of a short field off a bad punt

(01:38:03):
and then a trick play, you hold them to one
hundred and sixty yards in one touchdown. Now we can
start having the discussion about where does this defense rank,
because the numbers are putting up are getting pretty ridiculous.
I think they're going to be close to under what
were they give up coming into the exactly ten, exactly
ten points coming into the week they've been given up
per game. They're gonna be under ten. They're gonna be

(01:38:24):
in single digits points given up per game. That is
pretty darn elite for a defense that we said coming
into the year, like, oh, you lost Cody Heisman, you
lost the most starts to graduation, Dylan Hendrix to graduation,
you lost your linebackers from last year, and you lost
Enoch to the transfer portal. How are you going to
replace all of these pieces? And they've been nothing but tremendous.

(01:38:46):
So the defense has been really, really good. We might
have to start having that conversation about where they rank
in terms of the all time best Buyson defenses. Next
up for NDSU, they finally return home up for a
couple of weeks away. They will take on the youngs
Town State Penguins, who won again today and they're looking
for a statement when they already went to Illinois State
and one that's probably gonna be enough if they just

(01:39:07):
take care of what they should take care of to
get them into the playoffs. But they're trying to fight
and maybe cloud themselves up towards that Seed conversation. Obviously,
a win in and in Fargo against NDSU would go
a long ways to that. They got Bo Brunguard, who
is definitely in that Walter Payton conversation. He's putting up
some video game like numbers. You think he's leading them
and carries as a quarterback, which is just ridiculous exposing

(01:39:29):
him to that much contact. But they're doing it and
they're gonna be coming into the Fargo Dome next Saturday
at two thirty. Expect a big time crowd out. There
should be a really fun game and you can see
a dynamic quarterback there in Bo Bruntguard and the Binsen
definitely looking to keep themselves on pace for it could
be again a top five potential matchup up in Grand
Forks two weeks from now. Got to take care of

(01:39:51):
business against the Penguins of Youngstown State next Saturday, back
in the Fargo Dome. Only three more home games here
in the regular season young Town State, Northern Iowa and
