live to Bison Hotline. Here's your host, Andy rick On.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
When two tight ends left a flanker right in Conckland
hand off Rika running website. He cuts a field inside
the five, bang his way down to the goal line, touchdown, touchdown,
break a pitou and on the left side the hometown
ten with the home coming touchdown, seven yard score and it's.
Speaker 5 (05:10):
Six to not.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
They Bison and six to nothing grew to a lot
more than that. That was the start and they finish
was just as sweet for NDSU as they come home
and get a dominant homecoming win to open up Missouri
Valley Conference play a fifty one thirteen final at home
against USD. Welcome into Bison Hotline with you live here
(05:33):
from Applebee's just north of the Fargo Dome. Still emptying
out the parking lot there, feel if you'll just come
on over mosey on over to Applebe's instead. Got some
great deals, great food special as great drink specials as well,
and you can see our lovely faces. Andy reck Off,
Jake Kava, and Chris Hansen here with you today to
break down what was a dominant performance, the likes of
(05:53):
which I don't even think US three, who definitely favor
one of the teams, I don't think US three saw
that one coming.
Speaker 12 (06:00):
Yeah, I mean I talked about in the pregame.
Speaker 14 (06:03):
Going in this game, I assumed that South Cota, you know,
tough game against Lamar Northern Colorado, got out with a win.
I had hoped, I guess I was very hopeful that
USD was gonna be the USD from the past two
years that we've seen. But you know, like we were
talking off air, new head coach kind of forced the
other head coach out. Can kind of get a you know,
(06:23):
taste of your old medicine there a little bit. I
was up, not upset, but I was thinking it was
gonna be a better game and South Cota's got problems.
Speaker 4 (06:31):
I'm right there with you. This is a team that
last year was one went away from getting to Frisco
and had a legendary kind of head coach, had, you know,
a bunch of skilled players that really seemed dominant, and
then they lose all the players to the portal. They
lose a bunch to graduation as well. And if I'm
a USD donor, I'm like, how did you guys let
(06:52):
this happen?
Speaker 2 (06:53):
How?
Speaker 4 (06:53):
And maybe some of them were behind that of making
a move that they wanted Nielsen out. You know, the
tie on the sideline and the hard discipline coach isn't
everybody's cup of tea. But at the same time, if
that tea is sweetened up and.
Speaker 12 (07:06):
Hot, let's drink it.
Speaker 4 (07:08):
I can't. I was just flabbergasted and how they just
didn't look. Now I realize, you know, NDSU maybe has
got one of those teams this year, and this is
our first look at seeing that, Oh maybe it is
one of these teams. Yeah, But at the same page,
I'm exactly with you guys in line that when I
saw the number for today that the people in Nevada
had come up with They're like, Wow, that's a lot.
(07:29):
And they was twenty one and a half, twenty six
or twenty seven at the end to almost double that
is insane.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
Yeh yeah, fifty one thirteen final Andy Issu, Trounces, Tramples, Stampedes,
whatever you want to say to USD. They had their
way with them from the outset, I mean, didn't even
allow them to cross the midfield until thirty seconds left
in the first half of the first three possessions were
three and out, three and out, five and out for
USD and Travis Johansson's first trip to the fargodomes coach
(08:00):
probably one he's gonna want to forget in the future,
but definitely a lot of things to learn from for
him as well going into the future there with USD.
And they're a new head coach, but a lot of
those players who did leave, like you mentioned, they are starting,
Like Mikey's Grace is starting at Kentucky. These guys are
doing stuff. Some of their offensive limen are starting at Cincinnati,
starting at other places. The wide receivers, like the third
(08:20):
starting receiver on the team he went to as well,
I can't think of it off the top of my head.
But like they're playing a little bit, and there is that.
Speaker 4 (08:26):
During the broadcast. I think that Phil and Sam when
there's nothing else to talk about segment of the show arrived,
which is also known as the second quarter third quarter,
that they had made a point that that and I
think Noah Gindor Folso spoke to this that that's what
NBSU has in a culture. If you have a culture,
those players maybe not necessarily want to leave. It might
(08:47):
make it more difficult, But when you have a culture
of knowing, I'm going to stick around, I'm going to
see this out. Aiden Bauman was the last man on
the sink and ship, and you gotta wonder if he's thinking,
what did I do? I do I deserve to offers?
I'm sure he did somewhere.
Speaker 14 (09:02):
Well, that's an whole another story is just and I
know we're talking about the pieces that he lost in
the old lineman, the receivers of skill positions, the regression
of aidan bowman from three years ago to I get there.
There was some times where we had pressure on him.
There's a lot of times where we hit a clean
pocket and he had happy feet. He couldn't complete a pass. Yeah,
like what what's going on.
Speaker 1 (09:21):
There and some of the other games.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
I will say that there were some drops, but today
I don't remember really any bad drops by the receivers.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
I think there's some bad McCann. Now I'm not a
quarterback or quarterbacks.
Speaker 2 (09:30):
Coach by any such of the imagination, but he just
did not at all look like the same quarterback we
saw last year or you saw two years ago. Inside
the don't and.
Speaker 14 (09:37):
I think the only the only pass he could consistently
complete was the checkdown over the middle.
Speaker 4 (09:40):
When everyone's twenty five yards deep. I got eight yards
right here, baby, which you know, okay, if that's what
And they did that right towards the end of the
first half, right when they were going to try to
move the ball a little bit, consistently doing it and
that's fine, but that's that's not a sustainable time.
Speaker 12 (09:56):
You're not gonna win a game do it.
Speaker 4 (09:57):
But hats off to Ndshu taking care of business on
a team that I think there was a little taste
of revenge that wanted to be had out the fifty
one might have had something.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
To do with that. Absolutely that.
Speaker 4 (10:07):
Hey, listen, I know you had your time and you
did some things here that were nice, But let's not
forget who number one of the Dakota's still is.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
Yeah, you've got us a couple of times just to
kind of run the conference.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
Had a little bit of a message today, that's for sure,
and I think a message to the rest of the
valley too. Everybody who else was off Outside of SDSU.
They faced Mercy Hurts. We'll get to that score later,
but everybody else was off, and I can guarantee you
coaches and everybody was kind of pop on that endsue.
Let's just see how that one goes. Message sent like, oh,
like Brock's back. I mean when I say obviously he's
(10:39):
the next opponent up, they're probably sitting there watching Let's
get some scout on these guys, and they watch it
and I don't know how they're feeling out there in
normally Illinois right now with the team coming to their
place next week.
Speaker 14 (10:49):
Yeah, I mean, how about this quarterback we don't have
that can't throw the ball, and you know, we don't
know we have Cam Miller and fourteen for eighteen, two
touchdowns and almost three hundred yards. And I think Miss
Cole and I know we got ahead of ourselves last
year I think by this time we were already talking
about cam Miller Walter Payton.
Speaker 4 (11:08):
Yeah, the train.
Speaker 14 (11:09):
I think I signed to jump on that train again.
For col Payton, what he can do third and seventeen.
I think it was in the third quarter reminiscent him
balldof guy Trey lance On against jam U. It's third
and seventeen brings it breaks like what three or four
tackles and gets a first down.
Speaker 4 (11:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 14 (11:24):
And the thing about him is, and Trey had this too.
There's a lot of quarterbacks in our athletic and get
outside the pocket. It's the breaking linebackers tackles when they
have you, you know, dead to rights, and you're a six three,
two hundred and thirty pounds quarterback that can just run
through tackles. You don't see that. Tim Tebow is the
guy who comes to mind. I know he's a lefty too,
but thinking of a quarterback that you can have him
(11:45):
square it up. But he doesn't matter because he's a bigger, faster,
stronger athlete than you are.
Speaker 4 (11:48):
Yeah, he's gonna he's gonna run past linebackers like there's
no tomorrow. Number one was chasing him all over the
field today for USD. The other thing. The other two
things about Cole Payton today. Number one my favorite past
his was the one he threw in the dirt on
a screen that obviously was going nowhere and he's rolling
out to the left and it just looked discombobulated.
Speaker 2 (12:06):
I don't know how it was an intentional ground.
Speaker 4 (12:09):
Well, whether or not there was anyone in the air,
but I mean he just dirted it, like, you know,
let's not get anybody hurt, let's live for another down.
That was good. On the flip side of that, I
don't know if I like him leaping at the ten
yard line to try to get towards the pylon on
the west side of the I know it did. I
(12:29):
get that. But that is also the.
Speaker 2 (12:30):
Hard to take that out of him, because you come
down there is what is he done?
Speaker 1 (12:33):
Like? That's his role? I got everything I can on
every collar.
Speaker 4 (12:37):
Bones have a weird way of doing things when you
land on your shoulder.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
Like they do, just saying it's also that it slightly older,
I mean your collar bone.
Speaker 4 (12:45):
Yeah, well that's true. I could I could step off
the booth here and roll an ankle and I'm done
it for a month exactly.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
Well, is he gets fifty thirty, will break down this
game plenty here for you over the next hour plus

that number, want your thoughts there, seven zero one four
seven six sixteen sixty, your thoughts on this fifty one
to thirteen win for NDSU over USD. And I'll throw
(13:35):
a question out there for everybody that there you're calling
or texting. Was this result more of maybe NDSU really
is just that good this year, or boy, what's happening
in Vermilion. Maybe a mix of both, But maybe that's
a question to get some some thoughts out there from
our listening audience as the USD team, that was what
top five going into the year and semi final team
(13:57):
last year went out to to Bozeman, couldn't get the
job done. This is a really good team of program's
been on the rise, but they did not get the
job done at all. Today NDSU runs all over from
up and down the field fifty one to thirteen to
the final. We'll take our first break back with plenty
more here on Bison Hotline. Next.

Here on Bije's in Hotline, Andy reck Off, Chris Hansen,
Jaycavo with you, Bijson win big in this one and
(19:17):
the first segment, Jake, you mentioned, you know, maybe we
jumped the gun last year at cam Mill like this
early we were talking Cam Miller, Walter Payton, Walter Peate.
Maybe we should do the same for Cole Peyton. I'll
take it a step further Cole Peyton getting drafted in
the NFL draft because I saw I'll tell everyone inside
Info there were six NFL scouts at the game up
in the press area with us today and especially that
(19:38):
third and seventeen scramble for twenty one pick up the
first down. I saw eyes wide, Josh dropped, and I
think he has been impressing.
Speaker 12 (19:45):
And I do think that is the reason why Cole
Payton has stayed so long.
Speaker 14 (19:48):
Know he made a comment I think this was in
fall camp about hey, no, only took Trey Lance one year.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
Yeah and fair.
Speaker 12 (19:55):
I think I'm.
Speaker 14 (19:57):
More opt Let's talk about the Walter Payton playing quarterback
in the NFL. There's you know, thirty two open positions
every year, and I mean that's like the most elite
of the elite. Maybe not quite there yet, but if
he keeps consistently making I know, I think it was
a past to Bryce in the first quarter Cover two.
Threw it in the scene between the corner and the
safety and Cover two. If he can keep consistently making
(20:20):
these throws, I do think he's gonna have an opportunity.
Speaker 2 (20:22):
It wasn't just easy throw. There are a lot of
tight throw so he completed today it would be on
a line. I think of the touchdown pass to Reese
Kessel right on the numbers corner and he was getting
pressured a little bit, like they used. This was not
just an easy day at the office.
Speaker 12 (20:36):
And just to see his confidence grow from game one
to now, just how his command of the offense pushing
the ball down field like it's I think everything we.
Speaker 14 (20:43):
Could have expected we couldn't have. It's everything we could
have wanted with Cole Payton in his first year as quarterback.
Speaker 4 (20:47):
Yeah, to what not watch the drop off from you know,
last year to this year, what would be noticeable? He
just obviously hasn't. I'm also wondering Andy got the second
card he put in front of the worst, not just
the first one, but where did you go find a
second card to put in front of the cold Peyton horse?
There we skip right over Payton. He's got the guy
going in the NFL draft.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
Two horses here theother thing he's got going for him
in this argument, this is getting way ahead of ourselves.
Speaker 1 (21:12):
But quarterback.
Speaker 2 (21:16):
People will say, oh, he's only been the quarterback for
one You already answered that trailer. There's a quarterback for
one year and went third overall, so anything is possible.
The other thing for Cole Peyton though, and I think
this is what NFL scouts see when they see that
that run man. It's just an athlete drafted as a receiver,
right like there will be other avenues for for Cole Peyton.
(21:36):
I hope it he can keep doing this and people
will look at him as a quarterback like keep doing
this stuff? Why not? He's looked really, really good, passed
my expectations, and that was probably one of the more
optimistic people.
Speaker 14 (21:48):
If you're listening to this right now, turn the radio off,
keep tap your head down, and keep working hard to
drink this.
Speaker 4 (21:55):
And he's looking for another cart he wants to put
in front of the horse.
Speaker 2 (21:58):
I'll try if we can. There's probably a few more
of them out there. Maybe you can play defense for us.
Speaker 4 (22:02):
Who knows defensive.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
Player of the Year. But there's a lot of fun
stuff to talk about with Cole Payton. A he does
give you three hundred and seventy five total yards, a
couple of passing touchdowns, rushing touchdown in there as well.
I want to ask you guys both about the uh,
I'm gonna call it working nine to five connection between
Cole Payton and Bryce Lance. That nine to five it's
working pretty good right now, back to back week to
(22:23):
the touchdown pass.
Speaker 4 (22:24):
It's not really six seven, but it'll look okay. Yeah,
I think it was really interesting in the post game
listening to Bryce talk about he was like, I have
played a lot of catch in my career with Cole
Peyton that both of them, you know, coming into at
the same time, you know, taking those reps as young
guys and just.
Speaker 1 (22:40):
As the backup until last year.
Speaker 4 (22:42):
Yeah, and just being around each other that entire time,
you're gonna have a connection that the players and teammates
have and friends basically, So I think that that. I
think that that is something that has probably always been
there and now we're just gonna get to see it
on the field.
Speaker 12 (22:55):
Yeah, I agree with that. Obviously, they came in together.
Speaker 14 (22:58):
They were doing and a lot of stuff that made
us mad when I was on starting defense and they
were our scout offensive players. So I gotta see that
first hand, the connection between the nine to five connection.
But yeah, like you said, I think just having that connection,
and this is outside of football, it's they were in
the dorms together, they were eating meals together, they were
in no development lift with Coach Kramer together. So just
(23:20):
all those just times spent together. I think we're seeing
that come to fruition.
Speaker 4 (23:24):
I'm gonna get that.
Speaker 1 (23:25):
Know, they're both over the bridges.
Speaker 4 (23:28):
I'm gonna get to the T shirt machine ready to
go work. In nine to five we're gonna start. Yeah,
we'll get those up.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
Gotta start that.
Speaker 1 (23:34):
I think that's a good one. Here are some stats
on this.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
I think these are pretty eye pop And just like
the score is total yards today five forty seven to
ninety six, I keep in mind a lot of these
yards coming in the fourth quarter for USD passing yards
two seventy three to two away. They can tell you
at halftime it was seventy two for USD and over
two hundred for NDSU. Is pretty jarring that number there,
total net rushing yards to seventy four to eighty eight
(24:00):
for USD. Those ones that tell the story of the game,
and then time of possession. NDSU held it for over
thirty five minutes thirty five seven to twenty four fifty
three today.
Speaker 1 (24:09):
Time of possession. Pretty jarring numbers right there.
Speaker 14 (24:12):
Yeah, I just dominated when one thing we always looked
at is if you can hold the team under one
hundred yard rushing yards, that's I mean, that's the a one.
Speaker 12 (24:20):
That's what you want to do.
Speaker 14 (24:21):
And obviously being eighteen yards under that South Coast is
not gonna win a whole lot of games.
Speaker 12 (24:26):
If they can't rush for over one hundred.
Speaker 2 (24:27):
Yards, I'm gonna have to run.
Speaker 4 (24:29):
I'm wondering if they get to five wins after what
we saw today. Don't get me wrong, the valley is
always seems like it is good, and I thought that
USD is gonna be one of those top half. They
kind of look like they regress maybe down to the
bottom half now, so I don't know if five wins
is I know they got Murray next week.
Speaker 2 (24:45):
In the SU SDSU, I'd put you in Illinois ahead
of them. I put Illinois State ahead of them right now,
and I think I put you in the AAH right now.
Speaker 1 (24:52):
That means they're six.
Speaker 4 (24:53):
It's tough times and Vermilion.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
Yeah, well see what see what these are teams look
like toy.
Speaker 12 (24:58):
Isn't it always tough times in Vermillion? It's not?
Speaker 4 (25:03):
But it's close.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
You said it, not me. I also, how about this
one third down conversions ten of thirteen for Indiasuo. That
is a phenomenal number. Ten of thirteen, two of nine
for USD. They are first three possessions, went three and out,
three and out and then five and out. Indias. You
control this really every aspect you look at, even like
penalty yards. Indias. You didn't have a lot of penalties
(25:24):
in this game. They had, you know, six for forty five,
A couple that were costly. They weren't too bad in
that category. They win the turnover battle one to nothing
with that interception return for a touchdown by Nathaniel Staling
as well. Just a really good clean game. Is there
something if you put yourself in coach Polo sex shoes, like,
what is the thing, Like, I'm picking on this that
we have to still learn from.
Speaker 12 (25:44):
The miss pat? Probably, I mean.
Speaker 4 (25:46):
There was one okay.
Speaker 12 (25:49):
You know and what I loved where I love from OZK.
Speaker 14 (25:51):
So after I didn't even know we missed it because
I was not paying attention on the sideline. Anyways, he
comes over and I'm like, look at I'm like, it's
thirteen to zero.
Speaker 12 (25:58):
I'm like, did you miss the PA?
Speaker 14 (26:00):
He's like yeah, I'm like what happened? I'm like, was
it like a bad snap bat? He's like, nope, I
missed it.
Speaker 12 (26:07):
It's on me. I'm not gonna talk about that. I'm like,
good answer.
Speaker 4 (26:10):
Here you go.
Speaker 12 (26:11):
Is like, it's on me. I gotta make a pat.
Speaker 2 (26:12):
Okay here could I be like goldfish memory man?
Speaker 12 (26:15):
But I'm like, was it like a bad snap battle?
He's like, nope, it's on me.
Speaker 2 (26:18):
Take it.
Speaker 12 (26:19):
I appreciate that.
Speaker 2 (26:20):
Yeah, thankfully.
Speaker 1 (26:20):
I don't think that one mattered.
Speaker 4 (26:21):
No, anyone's gonna notice one today.
Speaker 14 (26:24):
I was looking for a little bit like the over
at the end, I'm like, is this gonna be make
a one point swinge?
Speaker 2 (26:29):
So how's that gonna almost got the over under by
themselves fifty one total for NDSU, they went at fifty
one thirteen over USD Again, your phone calls, your text

we've got a few of those lined up, so we'll

Speaker 1 (30:56):
It is cot down the goal line. Touch steps Bison.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
Bring it up for Reice Cassel, the far Gown native
with his first career Bison touchdown twenty nine yards had
the exclamation point on a dominant homecoming first half for
the Bison. They are crashing USD thirty three to nothing,
(31:24):
and the thrashing would get worse from that point on.
It was a dominant effort today inside the Dome for
the Bonnes in fifty one thirteen our final, and frankly,
boys and girls, there wasn't even that close a late
touchd on there for us to make it look a
little bit closer for them, all ten of their thirteen
points coming in that fourth quarter to get a late
field goal at the end of the first half of
(31:45):
the Bison led thirty four to three at the end
of the opening half and continued that in half number
two and you Rick Off, Jake Cava, Chris Hansen here
with you your thoughts welcome. Seven zero one four seven
six sixteen sixty. We'll go through our facebok book page.
You can also comment there the Beison sixteen sixty Facebook
page one on seven point nine The Fox also here
(32:05):
with us on the listening audience, but Bison sixteen sixty
on Facebook you can comment there are your thoughts on
this win for the Bison.
Speaker 1 (32:13):
Mike Stolberg one word dominant.
Speaker 2 (32:16):
I think that one fits it fairly well, pretty dominant
from start to finish out There a few other ones
here before you. We'll get to as well. Rawley says
Bonison are better than anyone ever expected, like TP said
they would be. Patrick says, awesome, complete game, plus the
two's and the threes. Even got some reps in there
as well. I want to go back to Raleigh's though,
(32:37):
the Bison are better than anyone even expected. It goes
back to what I said in the opening segment. Does
this speak more to you guys about just how good
this year's team might actually be? Maybe we have one
of the better teams we've seen, or does this speak
a little bit more about USD or is it both?
Speaker 4 (32:53):
I think it starts probably with USD. I would say
this is more of USD just not being as what
we'd expect them to be. I think we kind of
and their number four or five ranking to start the
year was exactly that was people were expecting them. How
could you fall off so fast? I don't know if
losing like this to number one knocks you out of
the top twenty five, but it's got to be darn close,
(33:14):
because I don't know how you would look at that
team and said, how do I find something redeeming that
I would keep them in the top twenty five. So
I would say it leans more on probably USD being
down not taking with it. Indiac wasn't good, but I
would say with this kind of a beating, SIMO put
up a better fight. Yeah, absolutely, you know I So
I have to say it's more USD.
Speaker 12 (33:35):
Yeah, No, I would agree.
Speaker 14 (33:36):
I like, is this the twenty twenty five buys in
one of the best teams in Bison history?
Speaker 12 (33:41):
I don't know.
Speaker 14 (33:42):
I do think what we have done in the transfer
Portal era with our you know, we have a probably
handful of donors that have done a really good job
of keeping some of our key talent in Fargo. I
think we're seeing that, And you said, I said earlier,
the culture of staying in NDSU with the ability to
you know, keep a couple of players here with some
checks that we're written. I think we're doing a better
(34:03):
job than everyone else in our conference right now. And
I think we're seeing that right like we saw that
today against Ust.
Speaker 2 (34:08):
Ton of players lead from USD saw mass exodus at
SDSU and the lost players too.
Speaker 14 (34:15):
But from a general, like one hundred foot view, I
think we've done a better job of keeping our talent here.
And I think that goes to say the culture of
our program, the region, the way this community comes around
the team. And then obviously there has been some checks written,
but I think we're doing a better job combating that
than you know, other teams in our conference.
Speaker 4 (34:32):
And to keep that going. This is what happens, Yeah,
this is what happens to the other ninety five percent
of the teams. This is how it goes. You get
good for a couple of years and then it just
falls off like a rock.
Speaker 2 (34:43):
Get gutted and.
Speaker 4 (34:45):
This is how the NDSU culture donors support nineteen thousand
people in the Fargodo home today. Those are the kind
of things that support it because I guarantee you if
you don't have that, what you get is is what's
happening in Vermilion. If you don't have that kind of support. Yeah,
and we'll see.
Speaker 2 (35:04):
I think we got before we say this is all
Indie issue and this team is way better than we thought,
maybe one of the best teams ever. Right, you gotta
go too, Brookings, Yea, you gotta go. Two Grand Forks
home against the sulukis here in a couple of weeks ago,
get to normal Illinois and a night game next week,
and they're gonna sell that thing out.
Speaker 1 (35:17):
They're gonna have.
Speaker 2 (35:18):
That's gonna be a fun atmosphere over at Hancock Stadium
next week too. So some tests coming up here before
I think we maybe have that revisit that conversation about, Wow,
this team is way better than we thought.
Speaker 4 (35:28):
That nobody wants to be Week four champs.
Speaker 2 (35:29):
Yeah, I'll say I think this team is better than
I thought they were going to be coming into the year.
Speaker 12 (35:33):
Just Week four play, we four champs was three week five.
Speaker 2 (35:38):
Yeah, but you know, Lewis cam Miller, you lost Gray's
Able to the NFL, Mason Miller to the NFL. You
lost some big time pieces, most starts on defense as well.
And to be this dominant against any Valley team outside
of Murray or Indiana State, that's pretty impressive.
Speaker 1 (35:55):
That's better than I thought they were gonna do.
Speaker 12 (35:56):
Is well. Absolutely, yeah, this is this is a score.
Speaker 14 (35:58):
You're like, oh, they must have played Indian State or Murray,
Like you said, no, South Dakota semi final team.
Speaker 2 (36:03):
From mind, everybody else in the valley was watching it today,
that's for sure. Robin says, they're on it today. Noreene,
what's not to like about this one? Not much, Noreene,
You're right there. Bison Nation n d Bison hadmen letting
us down. Yearly is so obvious. NDSU was on the
wrong league. We need to go to the FBS. We'll
get there. Not really what we're talking about today, but
(36:23):
we'll get there at some point.
Speaker 4 (36:24):
Maybe control what you can control and what's happening. You
can't tell me that you just snapped their fingers. Of
course it would have happened a decade ago. There's no
doubt about it.
Speaker 14 (36:31):
And I think Matt Larson on your Insiders, they're trying
read between the lions, like we want to cook. President
Cooks on board, I'm on like, if we had an opportunity,
we'd be there. Need the opportunity.
Speaker 4 (36:44):
If the door was opened, they would have went through it.
Speaker 2 (36:46):
Yeah, there's a lot of other factors that play. And
I'm not gonna speak for Matt Larson or President Cook,
but I think there is a belief for sure that
any us you can compete at the highest level of
college football. And yeah, see what college football looks like
in the next couple of years too. There might be
some pretty massive realignment out that house settlement and some
other things that have taken place. But keep sending us
your thoughts and comments on that post. Also text them

Welcome back to Byson Hotline on Bison sixteen sixty and
one oh seven point nine. The Fox who stood out
today and made the plays necessary to win for the Bison.
Here is the cool performer of the game.
Speaker 2 (41:29):
Hayton in the shotgun, gets the snap, throws the fade
right side Bryce's gun, it far quarner pylon touchdown, Bison
rys Lance one on one and he hauls in the touchdown.
Cole Peyton put it right on the money, a two
yard toss and this Bison martch They go all the
(41:51):
way down the field for their fourth touchdown of the half.
Twenty six nothing good guys, five thirty eight remaining in
the opening half, working nine to five. Cole Peyton to
Bryce Lance, big touchdown right there, twenty seven nothing at
that point and one of Cole Peyton's big time plays
(42:12):
in this game. And he had a lot of them.
And you look at his final stat sheet. We already
told you over three hundred and seventy five yards two
seventy three through the air, leading rusher as well, with
one hundred two yards on eleven carries and a touchdown
on the ground. Two passing touchdowns, one of them right
there to Bryce Lance. The second straight week those two
have had a connection for a touchdown last last game
(42:33):
out it was throw like a two yard pass basically
to him, let him run the rest of the way.
This time it was two yard pass into the endze
because they're on the two to start things off. That
connection is pretty good and Cole Peyton is also really good.
He is our Dakota Refrigeration cool Performer of the game.
DRI is what Dakota Refrigerator. Dakota Refrigeration is now known
as DRI pardon me a. Dakota Refrigeration helps athletes succeed
(42:57):
behind the scenes, from training room to dining room, from
melk to to send ice to ice cream. DRI has
been serving Minnesota, Montana and the Dakotas for over forty
years online at dak rev dot com. Cole Peyton man,
I don't know what more we can say about him
in the last two weeks, but he has definitely surpassed expectations.
Speaker 14 (43:14):
He just keeps passing the test. You know, if you
want to talk about new quarterback, new starter no. Week one,
it was wet out there in the citadel past that test.
You know, he didn't make the big mistake. He was
on time. Week two, that team we played Tennessee state
wasn't much but passed that test. Yep, Simo, Like we're
getting to a point now, like we have another quarterback
(43:38):
in the long lineage of NBACU quarterbacks that we've had.
Speaker 12 (43:40):
I don't know how we keep doing this, but it
keeps happening.
Speaker 4 (43:44):
And I know the numbers are big, but you also
have to kind of take them with Okay, who are
you playing God, I understand that, Yeah, you're only playing
three quarters because of who you were playing against, so
you are kind of putting up some of those numbers.
But at the same time, the things that you want
to look for is, you know, good decisions runs at
the right time, not putting yourself into trouble, keeping your
teammates out of trouble, with placing throws on the right spot.
(44:07):
In the completion percentage seventy eight percent today, right, And
one of those, like I said earlier, was a duff
end of the dirt, which I guess that they call
a penalty. Probably doesn't count for a jurt, but you
know what I mean, Like, that's the things that you
look at. Okay, Yeah, you're gonna put up a bunch
of yards against a bad team.
Speaker 2 (44:21):
Yeah, and they definitely did. But man Valley team, I
way to think they're not good. But like he didn't
do this no offense, but against Tennessee State. Yeah, we
talked about it earlier. It's still USD, it's still a
Valley team, and completely took care of him, demolished him
in every aspect and outside maybe that first pass at
the Citadel where it was wet and there was a
little bit like it almost got picked, right, and I
(44:42):
was hearing from people.
Speaker 12 (44:45):
I told you.
Speaker 2 (44:47):
One pass.
Speaker 1 (44:48):
I don't remember many.
Speaker 2 (44:49):
Passes that I've even really been in harm's way. Yeah,
like almost picked or oh, bad decision on that one.
Like he just hasn't had many of those.
Speaker 12 (44:57):
It happened.
Speaker 14 (45:00):
He will throw an interception this year, okay, I mean
if I'm wrong, that'd be awesome.
Speaker 2 (45:09):
That would help with the draft stack Trey lansmember that
year he started it didn't throw an interception. It can happen.
Speaker 1 (45:16):
It does happen from time to time.
Speaker 2 (45:17):
But the point is he's playing phenomenal both through the
air and on the ground, and he's got both of
those rolling right now. It's gonna be really hard to
stop this byes and offense. I just want to give Dan.
Speaker 1 (45:26):
Larson a shoutout of some credit.
Speaker 2 (45:28):
I mean, first year offensive coordinator had been a play
color before and a head coach before at other stops.
But to come here at this level and have this
offense rolling to this level has been pretty impressive. Have
you e noticed anything from just the play calling standpoint?
Speaker 12 (45:41):
Honestly, I haven't.
Speaker 14 (45:42):
I think that's a good thing because it just rolled
over from last year and you know what coach Landry
was doing last year. I don't think it's we haven't
skipped a beat, and I think that's probably the best
possible thing because our offense was pretty dang good.
Speaker 2 (45:53):
Can you startect any of the plays? Chris Hansen, it's
always a thing. Guy, I knew what was coming myself.
Speaker 4 (45:57):
Yeah, I don't know. I don't think so. I don't
think they've gotten into that predictable mode yet. I think
the only predictable thing Indiasu has had the last couple
of years was when Cole Peyton would come into the game.
It was like, well, we know what's coming now, and
then I think some of that trepidation with coming into
this year was when you did see him throw the ball,
it was uh shaky, And that's that's not unfair to him.
He was asked to come into a spot cold and like, hey,
(46:19):
can you do this? Yeah, you can do it in practice,
but that's totally different. I think with Cole Peyton, you
got a guy that you can count on, Like, you know,
if it's one less thing you have to worry. But
when you got four kids, and one of your kids
seems like, okay, wow, they have got life figured out.
They're on a straight path, right exactly Like now I
got three kids, I'm worried about. The One thing I
did like about Dan Larson was the up thirty doing
(46:40):
a little pitchy pitchy woo woo double you know, give
it to Brika, he hands it off, they pitch it back,
you know, like, okay, you're out there, let's see if
we can do this kind of let's have some fun.
I do like that.
Speaker 1 (46:52):
Everyone started Michael's PA announcer called it flicker.
Speaker 14 (46:56):
Yeah, sure, yeah, there's extiation yeah, and extended very long,
developing free flicker.
Speaker 5 (47:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (47:04):
Looked on the field. Wasn't there good to break and
let Brica make it a bit play because he absolutely did.
Everyone was running around in that field and having a
fun time today for NDSU again. Cole Payton is our
dri cool performer of the game. Phenomenal outing for him
fourteen of eighteen through the air, two seventy three, two touchdowns,
no pick, seventy eight percent completion percentage, also one hundred
two yards. The leading rusher on the day for NDYSU,
(47:25):
averaging over nine yards per carry along of thirty and
a touchdown on the ground as well. Marika Brica Pennu
eighteen carries, eighty six yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
He now has seven total touchdowns. He had five to
the first two weeks, he got seven now through four
weeks for Brika.
Speaker 12 (47:43):
I just like the way he's running.
Speaker 14 (47:44):
He's there was a challenge when Marty Bouden left that
you know, Rica was the one that was gonna have
to just buy nature.
Speaker 12 (47:50):
He was the next one in the room to step up.
Speaker 14 (47:52):
I think he's done a great job of, you know,
stepping up into that lead back role. And then Dj
Scott or who is the Ken Scott yes got when
he took that guy's helmet off. Dude, that was pretty explosive.
Speaker 4 (48:05):
I thought there might be ahead in the helmet when
they picked it up, like somebody just got decapitated on
the field. Unbelievable. And that dude made a poor, poor,
poor business decision. He came up in the hole and
it boom.
Speaker 1 (48:18):
Yeah, he just got a file too.
Speaker 2 (48:20):
He's good. It's say a little bit of a one
two combo and when you say thunder and lightning, but
they will kind of thunder and they can hit you
a little bit, that's for sure. Dave and min not
with the text in here. Seven zero one four seven
six sixteen sixty, Andy, you know where I stand with
this team. They're as advertised. Code Green has the tools
to be elite offensively. They are so balanced. Cold is
a cheat code with his athleticism, I believe his numbers
(48:43):
will be better than Trey's nineteen season.
Speaker 1 (48:47):
All right, then we find a cart yore.
Speaker 4 (48:50):
That might be another cart in front of that horse.
That horse is going nowhere pushing those carts.
Speaker 2 (48:55):
That's pretty good. Let's focus on the defense here. I
do think this team. I looked at him coming in
the year. I said, Okay, there's a few new pieces,
there's some differences, but I think they have some of
the pieces that the elite Bison defenses have had and
again haven't faced all the best teams in the country
so far. But now we've seen a barometer against the
Valley team and you have thirteen points. Almost kept that
(49:15):
team out of the end zone. Really kind of did
because it was all backups there. I got into the
end zone for USD. Does this defense have the tools
to be one of the better defenses we've seen in
NDISU history.
Speaker 12 (49:25):
I think so.
Speaker 14 (49:25):
I'm still waiting to see them the secondary get really
tested with a good quarterback, good passing game, which I'm
honestly don't know when that's gonna come. If it comes,
like maybe a south coast state and.
Speaker 4 (49:35):
The here's one of the top qbs in the Missouri
Valley last couple of years, you have thought today might
have been it.
Speaker 14 (49:41):
Yes, but so still kind of waiting to see, like
when they're gonna get tested, if they get tested this year.
But I think up front and our front seven defensive
lines playing extremely well with you know, the rotation inside
of Keenan, Wilson, Logan Lars and Jackson Dutin have for
You're getting Vanderpool in there, Wayne's coming in and getting
sacks at the end.
Speaker 2 (49:59):
Like a It was hurt a little bit today, but
walked off fine, so they were okay there, but.
Speaker 14 (50:04):
Yeah, and then on the edge with Toby with Kelton
Vic Eisley has given us a good minutes. Uh Jack,
I'm gonna Juliano thank you. I do think like our
front four. And then you add in cop dommin Willan's
probably the most NFL already looking player we've had since
Grabril Cox that linebacker, and then uh Nate Stalion's playing
(50:24):
his butt off and he's kind of he was that
obviously love you know, Wortz and Kubit's.
Speaker 12 (50:31):
Staling.
Speaker 14 (50:31):
Throws that back to a little bit hanky de Luca
type middle linebacker that can you know, run on the perimeter,
and he's he's a tough, tough kid that can stick
his nose in there and make tackles up too.
Speaker 4 (50:42):
Yeah, and weird to say on defense, but I love
that we're not seeing Logan cop with like fourteen tackles.
Speaker 2 (50:47):
In every game, right.
Speaker 4 (50:49):
I want him to make a lot of tackles, But
when you see tackles from everybody at four five six
to everybody with that many tackles, that shows you that
anybody can do the job and you're not just relying
on the one guy. So I like to see that.
Almost his name doesn't get brought up a whole lot,
like you don't hear it a lot. Dan Michaels isn't
saying cop in on the tackle like it's you know,
(51:09):
there's plenty of other.
Speaker 2 (51:10):
People who hoped at four today.
Speaker 4 (51:12):
Yeah, I mean, that's a nice day, but it's nothing
eye popping that you're gonna see. And I like that
because that means that there are a bunch of good
people around.
Speaker 2 (51:19):
Them nading tackler on the team. They had five. There's
two of them. You've already seen it. Don't look if
they know Stalion had five who tied for the most
tackles today. It tells you how balance this team is.
Speaker 4 (51:35):
I didn't hear dude that for much.
Speaker 2 (51:37):
I don't tailor Edie, backup safety who plays with the
starters a little bit.
Speaker 1 (51:44):
He'll get in there in some different packages.
Speaker 4 (51:46):
Eatie getting his nose in there.
Speaker 2 (51:48):
Absolutely, And he forced a fumble today too at a
quarterback hurry. Older brother used to play basketball. Yeah, Tyree
used to play basketball. He's uh, one of the Eadie brothers.
And we said Tyree with the men's basketball one of
those next safeties up and he had five tackles for
solo tackles today tells you how balance these team is.
That's basically a guy on the depth chart, a number
two at a position on the depth chart that is
(52:10):
tying for the most tackles both him and Staaling with five, Woolan,
Peter Hogo, Logan Copp with four, Will Style back up
with three, Darius Gibbons, Keenan Wilson also with three tackles
in this game. Is very balanced, very spread out of
who is getting in the backfield as well. One tackle
for loss for Staling, half tackle for loss for Woolan,
half tackle for loss for Juliano who was in the
(52:32):
backfield again today. And we know the sacks for NDSU
as well, a couple of them late from Peter Hougo
getting in there on some sacks Victory Ez. They got
in for one as well. On the day, a dominant
effort by Code Green all way all the way around.
Speaker 1 (52:46):
And they should it was Code Green day. It was
like green out inside the Fargo.
Speaker 4 (52:48):
Do defensive supposed to rule the day.
Speaker 2 (52:52):
Eight and oh with the the all green uniforms, all
green look including two wins against his STSU.
Speaker 4 (52:57):
What would we put out there wouldn't beat six. That's
a very we be wearing like blaze orange and purple
and we'd still be seven and one in those, So
I mean put it out they're gonna win in it.
Speaker 2 (53:08):
It's a lot of superlatives, right, like we're undefeated in
this look, or we're seventeen and two in this day
of the week, your time frame, we've.
Speaker 4 (53:15):
Lost fifteen games since the invention of the internet, and yeah,
come on, what are we talking about it?
Speaker 2 (53:20):
It's a pretty good perspective. That's what Chris Andsen is
here for to tell us back.
Speaker 1 (53:23):
In the day.
Speaker 2 (53:24):
What happened the back in the day? Guy, Uh, let's
take a break. Plenty of more to go. We got
to get you our play of the game as well.

Speaker 1 (57:41):
For Broncho on the right slot.
Speaker 2 (57:43):
Peith extends the hands, takes a snap, gives the Brica
big hole up the middle Burrika and soon again touchdown
Indsu touchdown Verrika Pedu his second score of this first half,
and he bulldozed his way in from six yards out.
Speaker 1 (58:01):
Touchdown. Buyers in the late at nineteen and I think
with thirteen.
Speaker 2 (58:05):
Forty four remaining and a half, just another day at
the office for Brika Penue the West Fargo Cheyenne product
eighteen carries eighty six yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
Also added in, by the way, four receptions for thirty
nine yards Berric out of the backfield. Watch out for
that as this offense continues to evolve. Over one hundred
total yards for Brika on the day. You found up
(58:27):
during a Bison game day today when talking with Makai Collins,
Berrika is one of the better basketball players on the
team as well. That's what he said that. I just
wanted to throw that because I thought Jacob has some
thoughts on it.
Speaker 12 (58:37):
Watchca play basketball. He can't shoot, great defender, but.
Speaker 2 (58:40):
Great defender I called him of his games in high
school as well, So I know a little bit about
the basketball game, excell.
Speaker 14 (58:46):
Yeah, because he had like Tyler Terhark and Blake Berg
taking all the shots on those teams.
Speaker 2 (58:50):
Some decent players on those teams as well for West
Fargo Cheyenne. But he's a basketball player a little bit
and also a heck of.
Speaker 1 (58:57):
A running back for Indias. Yes, you're saying stick with
the running back.
Speaker 12 (59:00):
Yeah, he found his.
Speaker 4 (59:01):
Niche Okay, Dave's not looking through the.
Speaker 2 (59:04):
Paper, Dave Richmond.
Speaker 14 (59:05):
I always saw that, Like I remember this was probably
back a while ago where Nebraska was in the Marsh
Madness and they had some injuries.
Speaker 12 (59:11):
They had like football players on the end of their bench.
Speaker 14 (59:14):
That was always my dream, Like makes for some reason,
like someone gets hurt and they just need a couple
of guys to go through warm ups and the big
dance go, Dave, I'm your guy.
Speaker 4 (59:24):
Well I'll show you how old I am when I
came to NDSU. Craig Amet was a very very good
basketball player for NDSU out of the Milwaukee area, but
also played some quarterback in high school. Well, when he
got done playing basketball, he also then went to football
and was a quarterback for the NDSU. This was in
the mid nineties.
Speaker 1 (59:43):
The story from the lap of Uncle Hanson.
Speaker 4 (59:45):
Yeah and uh and he looked like the tallest, skinniest
guy ever try. And this was right before Kevin Feeney
like got in and made his run at NDSU. And
it was really funny and like that's why I was
thinking about, Like you think you can just cross over
and do one to the other. But it's like literally
one or two generation can make that happen.
Speaker 2 (01:00:03):
Alan Burrell Hall of fame, right, was a great receiver
but also excellent track star for D S U SO.
Speaker 1 (01:00:09):
And that happened.
Speaker 2 (01:00:12):
Very much, right And uh, that did happen more back
in the early two thousands during the transition and stuff.
But just for different sports, this not just doesn't happen,
it's at different times. So being a student athlete, you know,
it's year round. It's not just your season anymore. It's
a year rounding.
Speaker 14 (01:00:26):
Especially at the college level, you become so specialized in
you know, if you're a winging basketball, you're a defense
like you're console, you know, position specific that it almost
makes like you said it's it would be.
Speaker 2 (01:00:38):
Do you guys know Alan Burrow's claim to fame. By
the way, we had him on earlier.
Speaker 12 (01:00:41):
This week show, he beat someone in the race.
Speaker 2 (01:00:46):
No battle, Devin Hester who he beat on the race
in college and nemin Hester was with Miami, was with
the Miami. A little bit different, just slightly different on
that one, I said, Gil stayers, Yeah, that too, also
a little bit of a different era. By the way,
give us your call your thoughts and everything. Today Bison
went fifty one to thirteen over used. If you want
(01:01:08):
to go down memory lane, we can do that too.
Seven zero one four seven six sixteen sixty, John and
West Fargo giving us a call, John, thanks for calling in,
Thanks for hanging on the line. You're here with us
on Bison hotlines, Sir.
Speaker 32 (01:01:20):
Yeah, I've got a little different question, a little different
angle for you guys. I'm wondering how in the world
is the NCAA allowing this to continue with the Bison.
This is like a college team playing junior high teams
all the time. Their program is way better, their recruiting
is way better, their facilities are way better. I mean,
(01:01:42):
we just got a hope that the Jacks and Montana
State show up in the schedule sometime this year.
Speaker 9 (01:01:49):
I don't know why.
Speaker 32 (01:01:51):
Is there any procedures that these guys could say, Hey,
we've got to the Bison a better than any team
that's left the SPS and gone to the FBS. How
does the NCAA allow this?
Speaker 2 (01:02:03):
Well, thanks to the call, John, It's not really own.
I mean, it kind of is an NCUBA thing, but
not really an nc double eight, Like it's not their decision.
An NCUBA committee's not saying NDSU, we're not allowing you off,
like that's not what's happened here. But yeah, NDSU, A
lot of the teams that have gone up Missouri State
first year, this year in Conference USA, I think we
all know Daz's bear them Missouri State, right, Delaware. Same
(01:02:23):
thing that's happened again and again and again. NDSU, Yeah,
probably is better. There's a lot of other factors to
why NDSU is here. Also say this to what John
had to say, there usdeded bs last two years in
the regular season, so all those advantages we have, Yes,
well they were able to beat to the last couple
of years we've had just last year had a lost
to them, a couple of years ago, Jaqel a couple
of losses in the regular season. So there are certain
(01:02:46):
teams that compete with NDSCU. But yeah, this year so far,
I don't get a r. I understand my fans are
saying we're blowing everybody out. This isn't even close.
Speaker 4 (01:02:53):
I think one of the things that I find interesting
is how the process has to work of the NCAA
of so many different things in the l let's call
it fifteen years of this run with NDISU, is that
paying of players, you know, cost of attendance, all these
different things that have come out over the last but
one thing hasn't changed. If you want to move up,
you have to be invited from a conference. Like let's
(01:03:15):
just say, hypothetically, the Missouri Valley would have said, we
want to become a new Division one FBS conference, So
we're just gonna as a conference become FBS. I know
it doesn't make any sense, but I'm just saying, of
all the things that you would have thought fifteen years
ago would have never happened, like players signing five million
dollar endorsement deals in college and getting paired to wear
(01:03:36):
whatever it is. But yet some of the things seem
still so archaic of how it goes. And NDSU is
just stuck in it. There's no other way to put it.
They're just stuck in it. They can't write a check.
They can't. Maybe they can't. I don't think they get
on top of the board. They can't. So to what
he's saying, how the NCAA lets this go number one?
(01:03:57):
They don't care about NDASU. They're just trying to hold
onto the powerfile conferences because they're about to lose them
and they know it because.
Speaker 1 (01:04:03):
Of how our doesn't run that that's a BCS thing.
I mean for the.
Speaker 4 (01:04:08):
Championship, but I mean for the whole thing. They're trying
to hold onto the whole thing because we're probably this
far away from those schools no longer being football as
part of the NCAA. They're going to be their own corporation,
and the NCAA is going to stand there looking around like, well,
now what do we do?
Speaker 12 (01:04:24):
Hang on?
Speaker 1 (01:04:24):
What even are we? I mean even have March minus
if that happens that it could be crazy about it.
Speaker 4 (01:04:29):
They've got they've got much bigger things they're thinking about.
I guarantee you then whether or not we should let
an NDAs move up.
Speaker 1 (01:04:35):
Which which I think most of them would be like,
I mean, we're found it moving, I just go.
Speaker 2 (01:04:38):
But it again, it's a conference needs it, It needs
to you know, invite NDSU and I don't think there's
a lot of conferences were really keen on it. And yeah,
and then we got to go to Fargo, which isn't
you know, sexy for most of the ads and presidents
out there to fly all your teams to Fargo every
year and to do other things like that, and then
it's not the biggest TV market. But for any president,
a d or conference commissioner out there, do you want
(01:04:58):
a team that can play in the play and maybe
win you a game and get that revenue for your
your whole conference. She probably is one of those that.
Speaker 4 (01:05:05):
If you're going to compete. If you're going to a
singles party and you're a bunch of average looking people,
do you want to invite a supermodel to come to
your party? Because no, they're going to get all the
attention and suck the air out of the room. If
you are a MAC school who is barely holding on,
do you want to invite the big bad monster under
the bear to come be part of your party?
Speaker 33 (01:05:24):
No?
Speaker 12 (01:05:24):
No, no, of course they don't for the.
Speaker 4 (01:05:27):
First reasons you mentioned travel and money at TV market
and third and maybe is number one competition. Nobody wants
it and you have to just, I guess put that
in your cap as a.
Speaker 2 (01:05:38):
Feather rather put a five hundred teams team.
Speaker 4 (01:05:42):
Sure, he state, bringing on, Yeah, we'll take it.
Speaker 14 (01:05:44):
Why you want to split your revenue share to a
team that is going to come in day one and
on paper be better than you.
Speaker 12 (01:05:50):
If I'm an ad, I vote against that day I
want to play?
Speaker 14 (01:05:56):
Why do I want to come to Fargo and get
trounced by this team that's a first team? Like and
can you imagine, like our fan base if we were
able to move up and all of a sudden, now
we're playing FBS.
Speaker 2 (01:06:06):
I mean that teams are coming into the Vargo doom
every year.
Speaker 12 (01:06:08):
This still's going to go back to circa twenty thirteen.
Speaker 4 (01:06:11):
With just bonkers.
Speaker 2 (01:06:12):
Yeah, like this every day was sella eighteen thousand, well
over eight It's just it is what it is.
Speaker 4 (01:06:17):
Enjoy where we're at. Yeah, dominant, you can.
Speaker 1 (01:06:20):
Control fans, I'll tell you that. Just try to enjoy it.
Speaker 2 (01:06:22):
Well, you got it, because it will not last forever either.
How about Mike and Sue? Fall has given us a
call Mike, thanks for waiting on the line. Appreciate you're
here with us on Bison Hotline.
Speaker 34 (01:06:31):
Hey, what's up, guys?
Speaker 35 (01:06:33):
I uh, I didn't. I don't even really have anything
to say about INDIASU today because they played so good
and USD looks the other What's the question I had?
You know, I keep hearing this talk. I heard like
you know, you know, Dom and Jeff and other people
kind of alluding to Nielsen and was was he for
stalage or was it or did he retire? I mean,
(01:06:54):
the guy was successful at delude Bill Sip into a
national power into the old Western Illinois. Who wins at
Western Illinois while Bob Nielsen does it takes us I
mean you look what he did at USD. I mean
with give to the semi finals last year for Cripe's sake.
So what you know was he forced out or was
(01:07:16):
he or what was the rub on that?
Speaker 2 (01:07:20):
Thanks for the call, Mike, appreciate it. Thanks for waiting
on the line with us there as well. I'll say
this first up, I don't know any specifics. I don't
know anything for sure. All you hear is kind of
what you alluded to their mic from other people around here.
Are the people around Vermillion as well. I think Bob
Newlsen would have been happy to coach again, to come back,
and he's older, he was at the end of his career,
(01:07:41):
but he had built USD into a very serious contender,
very much a serious contender at the FCS level. I
would have personally loved to have let him coach one
or two more years and see it through, see the
see the project to the end a little bit.
Speaker 12 (01:07:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 14 (01:07:55):
So what I have heard, and this is from multiple
sources across the valley, is the name sources, unnamed sources
that so Johannison was kind of their up and cover defensive.
Speaker 1 (01:08:03):
Coach, like the coach and waiting a little bit.
Speaker 12 (01:08:05):
Yeah, and obviously he was getting offers to leave.
Speaker 2 (01:08:08):
Yep, and a really good job about that defense did.
Speaker 14 (01:08:10):
They had a great defense. I don't know if it's
an ultimatum he gave. I don't know who their ad is,
their administration. I basically said like, hey, look, I'm here
now as a DC. I want to be the head
coach here, but if you don't make this happen now
I have I can't ignore these other offers. And I'm
guessing their administrations look like, hey, like Nielsen's older, this
(01:08:31):
could be.
Speaker 12 (01:08:31):
Our coach of the future.
Speaker 2 (01:08:34):
And sit down and have a conversation what's best for
the whole program, and you know, when it comes to
have him, and then I have to not have him
for the future, and then I'm gone and then we
don't know who's gonna take it over. So it was
a little bit of everyone making the decision, but probably
a little bit of an ultimatum out there as well,
I'm here right now, and if it's not gonna be
me this year, I'm gonna go take this other off exactly.
Speaker 4 (01:08:52):
Read through the t leaves of a guy who is
super successful, got them to the doorstep of getting to
Frisco and had led them and recruit and done all
this other stuff. And they don't give him a Bubbashweiger job,
right They don't keep him around for the sake of
keeping him around, like you know, they don't. They don't say, well,
you know what, he's decided he wants to take a
position with the alumni Association, and you know he loves
(01:09:15):
being a yoat And read between the lines that all
of a sudden the guy just disappeared. He doesn't go
coach somewhere else right away, So you don't It doesn't
take a genius to figure out maybe what a big
part of that was of being.
Speaker 2 (01:09:29):
Yeah, just not renewed after that decision, either, don't. I
don't know, you don't know, but that's what they did.
Also lose their offensive coordinator, Josh Davis.
Speaker 1 (01:09:38):
He had left.
Speaker 2 (01:09:39):
He actually was Matt Ense happens a coordinator with the
Fresno estate with Matt Ense right now, so they already
lost one coordinator and maybe I don't want to lose
another coordinator and he's the young Maybe one of those
two is gonna be our next head coach, and some
of that pressure in the decision.
Speaker 1 (01:09:51):
But I would have loved to see him.
Speaker 2 (01:09:52):
Bob.
Speaker 1 (01:09:52):
I had tons of respect for ever loves to suit
and tie on the sidelines to.
Speaker 14 (01:09:57):
And the connections between coach Nielson and our NDSU coaching trees.
So coach gazers with Nielsen at Duluth. Coach Enz was
under Nielsen at Western Illinois. So I just whenever we
play them, I just remember coach EN's like talking about,
you know, the amounts amount of respect he has for
coach Bob Nielsen coach team, and that they're gonna come
in here and they're gonna they're coached by a great guy,
so they're gonna they're gonna play.
Speaker 2 (01:10:18):
You gotta beat him like Mike who wins at Western. Yeah,
there's a guy that won at Western, so not an
easy thing to do. Tons of respect for him, and
we'll see what happens. Travis Johnson's story has not done
yet either. Maybe ends up being a really good coach.
He's he's going through some lumps right now. I would
say first year as a head coach, so there's no
doubt about that one. I'll take another break before that.
Let's pause. Ten second station identification. You're listening to bieson Hotline.

Speaker 2 (01:15:44):
Stamped to Belmot back to throw fires over the middle,
tipet intercepted, Nathaniel Stanley's got it down the far sideline.
It's sign the ten and he is in touchdown Bison.
Nathaniel's stailing off the tip trip oh up pick six
for the linebacker and his first career buys it touchdown,
(01:16:07):
big time touchdown right there on the defensive side. And
Nathaniel Staling get his hands on an interception where it
turns it for six today as NDSU wins at fifty
one thirteen over USD. That is our Northland Vapor and
CBD highlight of the game. Find north and vapor and
CBD in Downtown Fargo, South Fargo, Osgoode and in Bamidgie
(01:16:27):
Life's too short for water down choices experienced the best
at Northland, Vapor and cb D and we talk a
lot about Logan Cop and Donovan Woollen and rightfully so
open Nathaniel Stealing touching him a little bit earlier. Jake
special player in his own right and maybe a little
under the radar through the first three games, makes a
big play today.
Speaker 14 (01:16:45):
Yeah, I just think he kind of brings that hard nose,
tough middle linebacker that you know, we haven't had in
a little.
Speaker 12 (01:16:50):
Bit at NDSU. Just listen to Noah's postgame interview with him.
Speaker 14 (01:16:56):
Just the emotion he was showing about, you know, lowing
Cop and just what and another guy that's kind of
been another radar Logan Cop, as we're talking about earlier.
I haven't needed him a whole lot this year, but
just the leadership that he has shown to Nate, Logan
copp Ish on a Nate Stalian and just the steps
that Nate's taken to be that, you know, the next
Mike linebacker.
Speaker 12 (01:17:16):
And you see, which is a really really big position.
Speaker 14 (01:17:19):
You know, you go back to gran Olds and Nick
de Luca, Jackson, Hank, just the guys that have played
that position, and I think Nate's that next one up
in that position.
Speaker 2 (01:17:28):
Because also dealing with helmet communications, something that he's dealing
with that others didn't, and get making, making sure everyone's
lined up, and some other things on his plate.
Speaker 1 (01:17:34):
So been very impressed by Nathaniel Steer.
Speaker 4 (01:17:36):
Make the plays they're in front of you, and that's
exactly what he did today. You know, if it's there,
if he gets batted up and he drops it, no
one really remembers it. He'll remember it, right, but in
the grand scheme of things, no one remembers. But when
the play's in front of you and you make the play,
you take that opportunity and take it to the house,
like he said, just trying to outrun Aiden to the pylon.
You know, those are the kind of things that get
(01:17:56):
you remember. Those are the kind of things that build
your confidence for later in the year. So and on
the Logan cop tip, that kind of as I harped
on earlier, the kind of respect that you heard in
that interview talking about Logan is worth ten fifteen tackles
a day. Yep, every time you step on the field,
when you know that you've got that guy with that
senior leadership. I still remember when Phil Hanson again, old
(01:18:19):
man Hanson over here, Phil talking about when he was young.
You know, I want to see more logan cop on
the field. And now here we are a couple of
years later, three four years later, and he's on the
field and he is that leader both on the field,
in the locker room and in the friends' lives.
Speaker 2 (01:18:34):
That's a bad deal. I gotta know where he's at
in terms of career games played right now. It feels
like he has been around quite a while because he
played so early. Yeah, we mentioned him as a player
to watch pregame because husband's strength recently married, was married
last week, so he was.
Speaker 4 (01:18:49):
Was this the honeymoon? Yes, this was a USD cupcake,
The honeymoon was a road game.
Speaker 2 (01:18:55):
He could have said they went to a million for
their honeymoon. That would have been quite the story for
interesting stuff there. But great game once again by Nathaniel Stealing.
We do have a couple of more phone calls to
get to. How about Bill and Arizona? Bill, thank you
for waiting on the line. You're here with us on
Bison Hotline. What do you want to talk about?
Speaker 34 (01:19:14):
Oh, thanks for taking my call. I just want you
piqued my interest when you were talked about the NDSU
not being able to move up to the FBS. I
know it's complicated, but those who think that there's teams
at the FBS that don't want us, I think are right.
In the late eighties, I moved to New to Wisconsin
(01:19:35):
and I was close to the Twin Cities, so I
started getting season tickets to the Golden Gophers. And you know,
I go back to what Mudra was at NDSU, and
when I had season tickets, therese guys like Holts and
Whacker coaching the Gophers. Well, they were having trouble drawing,
and I think one of the reasons they invited in
DSU to come in and play was they knew that
(01:19:58):
NDSU fans followed them. It was great, I think, if
I remember right. They played six times against the Gophers,
and first the first time, the Bison lost kind of
on a looky field goal thing. They never the Gophers
have ever beat them again. And the teammakers, at least
(01:20:19):
that I heard talking, kept saying, we can't keep paying
them to come here and beat them. And they stopped
playing them.
Speaker 9 (01:20:26):
Oh absolutely, they couldn't beat them.
Speaker 34 (01:20:30):
And the Golphers are not the only FBS team that
have lost to the Bike, so maybe I'm not even close.
Speaker 2 (01:20:36):
Yeah, thank you for the call there, Bill. Yeah, there's
there's a lot of teams ain't signing up to play
the Bison. I can tell you that one, even though
they haven't won the last couple of FPS games that
they've played, Right, Arizona and Colorado will see the next
one here in twenty twenty eight against Oregon and THENDSU
wins that one, and you can guess any FBS game
nobody's signing up to play them with that one goes
the way of the Green and the Yellow. But yeah,
(01:20:58):
we'd love to play more FBS teams led to move up,
I think see what that happens in the future. Right now,
just keep beating teams like USD fifty one to thirteen.
Speaker 14 (01:21:06):
And obviously the standard like when we were playing an
FBS game, I don't I can't speak for what the
locker room was. Last year against Arizona. We went into
that game, I mean, even Vegas, we expected to win
that game by a couple of touchdowns. Yeah, I think
Vegas had US favored against Arizona or maybe plus three.
Speaker 4 (01:21:24):
It was close, very close.
Speaker 14 (01:21:25):
And last year I'm sure against Colorado against Colorado by
field little three and a half.
Speaker 12 (01:21:31):
That locker room. You go into expecting to win those
football games, right.
Speaker 4 (01:21:34):
Which is how you should go into those games.
Speaker 12 (01:21:36):
How you should.
Speaker 14 (01:21:37):
But I think you know about teams that wanted to
play us, even in the lost and right, we don't
want to have moral victories. I do think NBSU did
enough in those games to show like, yep, probably still
don't want to schedule these guys. Like granted, Arizona and
Colorado both got the wins, but I think the rest
of the country and probably for the fan and me,
probably not a good thing for us. But I think
(01:21:58):
the rest of country is like, yep, we still probably
shouldn't play those guys our first game of the year.
Speaker 2 (01:22:02):
Yet the point from Bill there is also accurate, like
maybe he did schedule them because normally gonna bring a
good crowd. Yeah, absolutely, there's always there's definitely a good
crowd in the cities when the Gulpers would play the Bison.
Speaker 4 (01:22:11):
But then a tip of the cap to to the
administration for what they are, what they can do. So
what we can do is you know what we can
do this deal with Tennessee State. We'll bring them up
here we'll go down there. We get to play in Nashville.
The fans will love it. It'll be a beautiful weekend.
Speaker 24 (01:22:27):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:22:27):
We can.
Speaker 4 (01:22:28):
Let's sign up to play somebody in Vegas. Okay, fine,
we'll go to Vegas and we'll play a game against
one of the Montana schools.
Speaker 2 (01:22:35):
Yeah, let's do that one, right.
Speaker 4 (01:22:36):
So they're doing what they can do, Like they can't
get phone calls or emails maybe returned, but what they
can do is say this is this is what we
got in front of us.
Speaker 2 (01:22:45):
So let's make the.
Speaker 4 (01:22:46):
Best out of the situation.
Speaker 2 (01:22:47):
And I think that they're in to San Antonio next
year Vegas to take on Montana States Charles, there might
be a.
Speaker 12 (01:22:55):
Chris Hansen Jake Cava nil fund created after that trip.
Speaker 4 (01:22:58):
Let's start putting the money in the bucket now, you.
Speaker 2 (01:23:00):
Know, seriously, I have saved a big kitty to get
going out there, because I also it ain't cheap out
in Vegas. So you when I start saving up, right.
Speaker 4 (01:23:06):
We'll just put it out there live. Would you guys
want to do it like from a sweet or from
a pool deck or something. Yeah, probably make that happen.
Speaker 2 (01:23:15):
Let's do it.
Speaker 1 (01:23:16):
I'm in I'll be in a swimsuit.
Speaker 12 (01:23:18):
I don't care.
Speaker 2 (01:23:18):
Yeah, get wet, hot top. Yeah. Now you're talking. There
you go.
Speaker 1 (01:23:23):
Now you're talking hot tups and vegas.
Speaker 12 (01:23:25):
Nothing can go wrong, hot vegas and electronics all mixes
very well.
Speaker 1 (01:23:29):
I'm sure Engineer Jake Bechtel isn't sweating just listening to us.
Speaker 4 (01:23:32):
Just passed out.
Speaker 2 (01:23:33):
I might have not in the hot tup thing. Don't
do that. One more phone call here quickly in this segment,
Mark from America, Mark in America. We got to get
this one in here right now. Mark, Thanks for the call.
What do you want to talk about?
Speaker 9 (01:23:45):
Well, my questions for Jake, because you've got old man
handsome sound like Vin Scully still calling Dodgers games from
and recalling how they sounded it and Polo Grounds, and
then you've got andies down then like Bob Ucker from
Major League going, well, you know when it's seventy five
and shutting and wins out of the East, they're fifteen
(01:24:06):
and three. Jake, talk to me.
Speaker 1 (01:24:11):
Think that as a compliment, sir, very big.
Speaker 9 (01:24:16):
Jake from a defensive standpoint, because I remember seeing how
some of the starters got back in and against the
Citadel to maintain the shutout, but they didn't. They weren't
necessarily worried about that to keep our points per game
allowed down today with that late touchdown, because right now,
(01:24:38):
I mean we're at seven and a half points a game,
which is fantastic, and I hope the guys can maintain
that average because that would probably put them as one
of the best FBS ERA defenses in our history. So
can you just kind of speak on what what's the
senior leadership going to do to the reserves or talk
to the reserves about with kind of giving up some
(01:25:00):
points late in the game and and yep, coached up
next week.
Speaker 14 (01:25:07):
Yeah, yeah, no, absolutely, I mean, so obviously, to keep
a shut out on the board, to keep low points
on the board, that's that's a huge thing for a defense,
you know, that's what you pride yourself on.
Speaker 12 (01:25:16):
Keep a team out of the ends, keep a team
out of the end zone is huge.
Speaker 14 (01:25:19):
Uh yeah, no, for sure, those the ones and the
twos that played earlier in the game, they're definitely gonna
be on those younger guys. You know, you it's not
a right for you to get in the game. It's
a privilege and for you in a game that's gets
out of hand like this one did tonight to get
them in the game. Like, yeah, you're still expected to
go in and you're not gonna have the banked reps.
All we can practice like the ones and twos are
(01:25:40):
gonna have, yes, but you still need to be able
to go in and execute the NDSU defense. And I
don't care if you're going up against you know, South
Dakota's ones, if you're going up against Carson Wentz and
the Vikings ones. The standard is still the standard. That
doesn't change no matter who's on the field, who's playing.
That's code green, that's NDSU defense. So there will be
you know, it won't be like a getting there, getting
butts ripped a little bit, but it's gonna be a
(01:26:02):
hey when you have an opportunity to get in the game,
and I having the right guys in the chairs is
big too, because when you're a young player, this is
your opportunity to show coach Paulice like show Coach Olson like, hey,
I want to I can play, I can do this,
and you know, I granted they gave up a couple
of touchdowns or not a touchdown, but points at the
end of the game that that'll be addressed. It's like, hey,
(01:26:23):
you know true freshman retrick freshman, you want to sit
here and say like, hey, why am I not getting
more reps? You had an opportunity to go out there
and show it against South Thales Ones.
Speaker 1 (01:26:32):
Show up. The quarterback was in there at that point.
Speaker 12 (01:26:35):
Yeah, show us.
Speaker 14 (01:26:36):
And so I do think there is at the end
of the day, it's a blowout. Main thing is getting
the win on the win on the resume. But I
do think, yeah, there'll be Like I remember we were
playing I think it was my senior year Indiana State,
and we had them shut out and our punt team
gave up a they blocked a punt and.
Speaker 12 (01:26:55):
Got a safety on it. We were mad, like that's
our shutout.
Speaker 14 (01:26:59):
Our backup punt team went out there and screwed this up,
like we had a zero on the scoreboard. And then
our backup punt team goes in they can't get it blocked,
and then it gets blocked and they get two points.
Speaker 12 (01:27:08):
Like right, what are you guys doing? Like you need
to be better. So I think they'll definitely be it'll
be talked about.
Speaker 4 (01:27:13):
And the good news is that Jake's got over that yeah, yeah.
Speaker 12 (01:27:17):
A put it behind them, shut out and we're throwing
the two's punt team and.
Speaker 4 (01:27:21):
Pumpump and and a lot of those times when nbsu's
two's are getting in or sprinkling in if you would
not wholesale changes, are still against the number one offense. Yes, right,
So now you are at a disadvantage. There's a reason
why you're not a starter for whatever reason. But when
you get in and you still are going against the
number one offense, you can then show at the high level,
(01:27:42):
like you get in the backups. The backups, weird things
can happen when it's twos and threes versus each other.
But when you can get in and you can make
a difference while their starters are still in in the
middle of the third quarter, that's when people are really
going to see, well, let's see what they really can't.
Speaker 12 (01:27:57):
That's right, that's our opportunity to showcase what you can do.
Speaker 2 (01:27:59):
Yeah, someone would take an Elijah Wayne definitely want to
exactly sure, right, and part of me they did not
have a backup quarterback, and they never did. It's just
bombing that was quarterback. But it's one of their backup
running backs. I think Fletcher ended up getting the rushing
touchdown there before him, and they went a little bit
deeper at that running back position than maybe I thought
they would going into the game. By the way, LJ. Phillips,
they're big back five nine two twenty five at over
(01:28:20):
three hundred yards. In one game against Northern Colorado was
averaging over six yards per carry. Eleven carries thirty eight
yards in this game.
Speaker 4 (01:28:27):
The other thing on one women a game like this, Jake,
is when what is the time of the ad calling
off the dogs versus b I don't want someone to
get hurt because Breca Penn, who's still carrying the ball
when there is no reason for him maybe even to
be on the field at that point as your number
one running back, what where does that line lay?
Speaker 14 (01:28:46):
I know, offensive and defensively, there's a different philosophies on it.
I just remember, like defensively, like in these games like this,
like we've had halftime, like what was the score halftime.
Speaker 12 (01:28:57):
Thirty four to three.
Speaker 14 (01:29:00):
You'll go in, get our adjustments, make our adjustments and
be like, hey, you know, ones, if South Coal is
getting the ball, start get two stops and then you're done.
And you kind of going to halftime that you get
to hey, like you get two three and outs, like
keep the score where it's at, you get two drives,
then you're done. Offensively, I can't speak on that, just
(01:29:20):
wasn't in that situation. With offensive coaches, I think pretty similar.
Speaker 2 (01:29:24):
I think a score when we extend this lead to
a few more than we'll get you out. I do
think with a quarter like cam Miller would have been
out of this game a lot earlier. Colpaitt, we still
need to get Col Payton reps, like live game reps
that he hasn't had because this is his first year starting.
So I still think like the reason Cole Payton was
in a little bit longer is you still need those
full speed reps that you can't You can't get those
(01:29:44):
reps in practice.
Speaker 12 (01:29:45):
You can try, you can emulate full speed, but playing
on Saturdays, playing on Saturday.
Speaker 14 (01:29:50):
That's why I think Cole Payton might have stayed in
a little bit longer for a guy like Jackson Duton
have for you know, Toby and Anek like they blowing
copy they have you know how me lone COSTREI playing
what fifty five games for the Bison, he has those reps.
He doesn't need on there, Okay, So it just kind
of it's a case by case basis, Andy.
Speaker 2 (01:30:08):

Jet sweep handoff Jackson Williams with the head of Steve,
bouncing off of tacklers and d of the yet zone
for the touchdown touchdown North Dakota State and touchdown Jackson
Williams the speedster agrees with a head of Steve and
his first touchdown of twenty twenty five nine yards on
(01:34:57):
the jet sweep and the odds lock can ten ues
for ind SU here on homecoming very late at fifty
to three with twelve twenty three to play touchdown by
Jackson Williams at the end of the game. I guess
you can call that one the cherry on top for
the bodies in good to see Jackson get back into
the end zone. That I had a good punt return today.
(01:35:18):
I think it was like twenty four yard one that
got them set up in USD territory there in the
first half, and then that touchdown run as well. That's
a special player for the future, not me beginning as
much running receiver just because of the depth of that
position right now. But we saw his impact of getting
to day on special teams.
Speaker 12 (01:35:32):
That's good.
Speaker 14 (01:35:33):
We don't need Jackson Williams until next year. Don't don't
make him have too many stats, Like, let's keep all.
Speaker 2 (01:35:38):
These somebody has them on their future crop team.
Speaker 14 (01:35:41):
Let's keep all these big schools like, yeah, but no,
he's an explosive player and.
Speaker 1 (01:35:45):
Teams kicking away from him.
Speaker 2 (01:35:46):
They gave you an opportunity today and he made him pay.
Speaker 12 (01:35:48):
Yeah, but uh, yeah, I know he's a he's a
he's a heck of a player.
Speaker 14 (01:35:52):
And like, just we'll keep saying that. How deep the
receiver room is. Chris Harris did play today? Yep, I
saw he was dressed. Didn't have a catch or anything,
or do you have I don't believe so budding out
there very much. Yeah, but yeah, just who'd have thought
NDSU football just you know, push it down the field water?
Speaker 1 (01:36:10):
Yeah, did not.
Speaker 2 (01:36:12):
How about the catch by Raj today? We got just
decked and hung onto it. Right, there was a lot.
There's a couple of those ones today. This receiver room
is deep talented. It's a very good room. Jackson Williams
is absolutely a part of that. Again here with you
on Bonney's on hotline seven zero one four seven six
sixteen sixty. That's jumped to the text line here. If
you get any comments or questions, send them our way.
This one from North Dakota number here from Craig and Castleton.
(01:36:35):
Thanks for signing your text there, Craig, I appreciate that,
I says, Hey, guys, great job. As always, hypothetical situation
with realignment becoming a big thing, could you possibly see
the Missouri Valley Football Conference becoming a new conference in
Division one in the next couple of years?
Speaker 1 (01:36:50):
Thinks just you mean FBS?
Speaker 12 (01:36:52):
Yes, seeing that right, But that'd be awesome.
Speaker 2 (01:36:55):
I would I like it?
Speaker 1 (01:36:56):
Yes, Do I see it?
Speaker 2 (01:36:57):
I'll be honest, No, yeah, I don't see that happened
that the powers of b at the FBS level. There's
the phrase, I don't want to give up a slice
of my pie. They have all the money right now,
they don't really want to cut it up to like
another conference, and now we got another conference. I might
want to seat at the table for this playoff. If
we expand it more. They don't want anything like that.
I don't see a whole conference going up. And I
(01:37:18):
know we love NDSU, We love the top half, about
half of the Valley, Indiana State, Murray State, some of
those teams. They ain't competing in Northern Iowa right now
with their finances. They ain't competing at the FBS level.
Speaker 4 (01:37:27):
I still say that path leads to somehow the NCAA
losing football. Yeah, if they lose those four power conferences.
Speaker 2 (01:37:36):
If you get re alignment to the point of the
Power four completely breaking away the Group of six, then
saying we need some more schools up here. We're gonna
do like the second tier of Division one, and then
the remaining FCS schools that don't go up will become
the third tier of Division one. You have three separate
D one tiers. That's a possibility.
Speaker 4 (01:37:54):
Yeah, I think that because then there's some value for
the NCAA at that point, because if they for whatever
reas and college football becomes its own entity as we
know it with Alabama and LSU and all those schools,
Big ten SEC. If they become their own entity, which
I don't know if that'll ever happen, I think it might.
Speaker 1 (01:38:14):
Nothing's off the table.
Speaker 4 (01:38:15):
I would I'd give that like a thirty five forty
chance of happening. Then you have NDSU, which you in
the conference could say, who wouldn't want these four Dakota
schools and a couple of Montana schools, Like, let's grab
you six and put like five six more with you. God,
we really got something now that would be super entertaining. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:38:35):
I don't know about the whole valley, but no, the Dakotas,
the Montanas, and if given the opportunity, Anois State in
southern Illinois.
Speaker 4 (01:38:42):
LA given the opportunity, a lot of those schools would
gladly take a step back. Indiana State gladly take a
step back. Western step back, Murray probably step back, but
Eastern Washington for sure they would be like, is there
anything lower that we can do? So I think that
would be the path to me. That's the path that
India you in the Missouri Valley. If you would becomes
(01:39:02):
a conference in FBS, which is not the FBS that
we know today.
Speaker 1 (01:39:07):
Yeah, I think it's all gonna look a little different
in the future.
Speaker 14 (01:39:10):
Sure, you just imagine that if our conference slate of
games was South Coast State USD U n D Montana State, Montana.
Speaker 12 (01:39:22):
That's awesome.
Speaker 4 (01:39:22):
Yeah, Air Force, un l V, Wyoming, Wyoming, Like if
that's our new conference.
Speaker 2 (01:39:29):
Like how Colorado State, some of those ones the whole
lord jump for that and heartbeat. Yeah, give me UNLV
in Vegas every year. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:39:39):
Yeah, sure, like we were talking about earlier, and I.
Speaker 4 (01:39:41):
Don't think that I think that that could be a
very real thing if NCA loses the money and the
because then there would be.
Speaker 2 (01:39:48):
A TV probably too. So yeah, they're trying to work
out the playoff deal right now with the playoff format's
gonna look like at the FBS, and that arguing continues,
and I think eventually at some point maybe there is
a big breakaway. We're probably at least two years away
from something like that happening.
Speaker 4 (01:40:00):
Yeah, because then and all of a sudden, let's say that, Okay,
ABC gets that deal. Well, now Fox is gonna be like, well,
we need something to put on TV because you guys
have all of that. Well, now Fox is going to
be forced to well, this is what we've got left,
So now we want the biggest stars.
Speaker 2 (01:40:14):
I'll have some of the Bowl games that would still
be out there. It's still gonna be a bowl system too.
But yeah, I get what you're saying about. Well, we
got to have the quarterfinals, semi finals, and championship then
of the FCS or whatever we're gonna end up calling
it FCS and group of five.
Speaker 1 (01:40:27):
Together, group of six that could be something.
Speaker 2 (01:40:29):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:40:30):
I think fans would we get to play in that?
Speaker 4 (01:40:32):
Is there anybody really thinking stuff? Weekend and week out,
We're gonna beat Baylor and uh Baylor, Iowa, and then
we're gonna beat Notre Dame and we're gonna beat like
all the SEC schools. Like do you think on a
weekend and week out basis you're gonna beat them?
Speaker 2 (01:40:47):
It's going to pick them off once in a while, yes, right.
Speaker 4 (01:40:50):
But over a long period of time. I think if
you could get those schools that are now at the
bottom of the FBS and put them with the top
of the FCS, and then also, damn good product.
Speaker 2 (01:40:59):
Talk about Bison fans and reminiscent a little bit like
we have today. What about not even the same division
as Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern JMU.
Speaker 12 (01:41:07):
That's good football.
Speaker 1 (01:41:07):
All of them are back good football, right, Appalachian State.
Speaker 2 (01:41:11):
It's some of the other FCS powers from back in
the day kind of all back together. I think that
could be a really really fun storyline as well in
the future. This is what you thirteen. You don't talk
about the game as much, talk about hypotheticals. One more
text here says did the USD main running back get hurt?
I did not see him in the second half, unlike
their starting quarterback who remained in the game. I didn't
(01:41:33):
see anything Jill getting hurt or banged up. Hopefully he didn't.
I hope for their sake, because body lost theirs lead
running back in Charles Pierre. They cannot afford to lose
him either, because they need a running game there in Vermilion.
Speaker 1 (01:41:44):
But do not know on that one.
Speaker 2 (01:41:46):
We do have to take a look though, I know this.

Speaker 1 (01:46:21):
Big first down for the Bison.
Speaker 2 (01:46:24):
Just another example of the nine to five connection right there.
Big play over the top to Brice Lamscy mentioned pregame,
Jake there were some plays to be had over the
top of the defense for a USD. We felt like
there were at the very least. I think they capitalize
over the top of this USD secondary.
Speaker 14 (01:46:41):
Yeah, I think like we said we talked about in
the pregame, and Cole Payton just I'm not waiting for
the mistake to happen.
Speaker 12 (01:46:49):
He's a good cord.
Speaker 1 (01:46:50):
It's hard to play a perfect season.
Speaker 14 (01:46:52):
It's hard to play a perfect season, but he just
he's on time. He's putting the ball where it needs
to be.
Speaker 1 (01:46:57):
He's helped you with receivers that win the way.
Speaker 2 (01:46:59):
That and win.
Speaker 14 (01:47:01):
Our receivers are gonna consistently win versus man coverage, and
you know against zone, right they'll sit down and find
the open area. But yeah, it's this NBCU offense is
fun and like I said earlier, Dan Larson, the new
play caller, wouldn't even if you didn't know it was
a new play caller, even doing it for a decade.
He'd been doing it for a decade. And this offense
(01:47:22):
with cam Miller and Jaer hasn't changed at all. It's
the same offense.
Speaker 2 (01:47:26):
Which we're here with you at the Applebee's just north
of the Fargo Domar home for Bison Hotline after every
game this season except for next week. Because it's a
six o'clock start, We're not doing this at midnight here,
so we will not be here after next week's game,
but maybe a pregame next week.
Speaker 1 (01:47:41):
Can be here at Applebee's, but.
Speaker 2 (01:47:42):
Here with you. I'll be calling in from Seattle next week. Okay,
go for it at midnight if you want to earlier,
much earlier. For sure you're going to watch Grays Table
and in such a little Bison moving company up front
for the Sea Ox and Sam Darnold. But you can
come out here, come out here to Apple enjoyed the show.
You can also take advantage of their two for twenty
(01:48:02):
five deal, going on your choice of one appetizer and
two full sized entrees for just twenty five dollars. You
can get something like mozzarella sticks or boneless wings or
onion rings. And you compare that with a bangin burger
oriental chicken salad. About the Fiesta lime chicken. I think
Chris Hansen had that today. That was phenomenal looking also
the bourbon street chicken and shrimp. You compare those things together,
(01:48:24):
two for twenty five. I'm gonna make everybody want to
come here to Applebe's right now, come here for dessert.
About the sizzling butter pecan blondie, the brownie bite, the
triple chocolate meltdown, the cinnamon swirl twists, or the sizzling
caramel apple pie. All options here for you at Applebee's.
Come here to next week. You can watch the whole
game right here. It's a night game, it's a late game.
(01:48:45):
Watch it here at Applebee's and enjoy the festivities. As always,
Let's take a look at our jiffylue before I go scoreboard,
before we sign off for the day, gentlemen, First off,
FBS level Illinois beats USC on a walk off field goal.
Number twenty three ranked Illinois, number two twenty one ranked USC.
Illinois gets the win and then they stormed the field.
Is that it allowed? What's the parameters? Are storming the
(01:49:07):
field second twenty one ranked.
Speaker 1 (01:49:09):
I don't know.
Speaker 14 (01:49:10):
We need to set up parameters for like what is
acceptable to storm the field. I would say that's.
Speaker 1 (01:49:16):
A like gotta be a top ten ranked team or.
Speaker 4 (01:49:20):
Beatie unless it was Matt Lioner and Reggie Bush.
Speaker 2 (01:49:23):
No, you had a really good question, Jake. What would
have to happen inside the Fargo Dome for us to
rush the field?
Speaker 14 (01:49:31):
I think it would have to be realignment happens, somehow,
we get a home game against a top I'll just
say a top fifteen team, So there's an sec there's
a big ten, highly ranked team coming to Fargo.
Speaker 1 (01:49:46):
Kurtzignety bringing the Hoosiers into town.
Speaker 14 (01:49:48):
Yeah, if a team like Indiana came in, I would say,
we don't storm, like we're kind of thinking we're gonna
win that game.
Speaker 4 (01:49:55):
We were joking that when when we were in the
big games in the Fargo Dome, the players storm the stands.
Speaker 12 (01:50:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:50:02):
Yeah, it's the exact opposite.
Speaker 4 (01:50:04):
They want to go into the stands to be a
part of it.
Speaker 2 (01:50:06):
That's great, that is very true. Yeah, what would have
to happen for India who to storm the field. It's
like a fan base to storm the field for what happened.
Speaker 4 (01:50:14):
I don't basketball. I remember when Woodside hit the shot
against Oakland to go to the Big Dance. I remember
that storm situation. Basketball A lot different football. You got
like a good eight to ten foot drop.
Speaker 12 (01:50:31):
That's gonna be interesting.
Speaker 4 (01:50:32):
Gotta be ready for that. But I to think when
like fans got down on the field in the Fargo
the I'm safe to say.
Speaker 1 (01:50:40):
It happens every year in Frisco. Yeah, that happened. That's
a storming there.
Speaker 4 (01:50:44):
But they opened the gates. Yeah, it's not really storming.
Speaker 1 (01:50:46):
That National champions Yeah, that's in Nashville this year.
Speaker 2 (01:50:51):
If you can luck, you have to get there. Right
at this point. Some other scores for you, hob butt
number twenty two Notre Dame fifty six thirteen over Arkansas.
Not competitive in that one, that's for sure. A Number
eleven Indiana gainst the win at Iowa inside Kinnick. They
went at twenty to fifteen, low scoring affair right there.
One that just went final a few moments ago. Number
thirteen Ole miss at home take down the number four
(01:51:13):
ranked Tigers of LSU twenty four to nineteen.
Speaker 12 (01:51:16):
Lane Keffrin gets the last laugh over with Weeks.
Speaker 1 (01:51:19):
Yes, his daughter, his daughter's boyfriends. You got my daughter,
but I got the dumb That's how.
Speaker 2 (01:51:24):
That one went today. Oregon Penn State number six, Oregon
at number three, Penn State at six thirty. Tonight.
Speaker 1 (01:51:29):
We talked about this one on the pre game, so
I know his thoughts. What are your thoughts on?
Speaker 4 (01:51:32):
I like Oregon especially the same sent as everybody. They
moved up to a four point underdog. I like them
at four points for sure, but I think they could
win that one outright. I just I don't know. There's
something about Penn State that feels like they always lose
in the biggest spots. Yeah, I know, James Franklin, they have,
but at night against good like they do fairly well.
Speaker 2 (01:51:53):
Yeah, oh it's white out, yeah, but it's in territory.
Speaker 4 (01:51:56):
It's just I just I think I like Oregon tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:51:59):
Only other team in the valley that was playing today
was SDSU. They were at home against mercy Hurst. If
you don't know who mercy Hurst is, they're at the NCI.
Speaker 12 (01:52:07):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:52:09):
The mercy Hurst.
Speaker 1 (01:52:09):
They're one and.
Speaker 2 (01:52:10):
Four after today because SDSU beat him fifty one to seven.
We've got Mason the quarterback for He is three hundred
and twenty one yards passing three touchdowns, all through the air.
Pretty good day for them. Like it's against Mercy Host.
We'll see them in a couple of weeks. People wonder
like this, we're gonna face a team that can compete
a couple of weeks with SDSU.
Speaker 1 (01:52:31):
It's gonna be in October here.
Speaker 4 (01:52:32):
They can't wait.
Speaker 1 (01:52:33):
Yeah, and not wait this year coming.
Speaker 12 (01:52:36):
There still is still.
Speaker 2 (01:52:38):
Running baby for eminent Mexican restaurant. Let's get it at
Illinois State six pm kickoff next week, by the way, uh,
and that game is going to be on ESPN plus
TV wise no w d A WEX. It's the Valley
game of the week. Oh, I can't wait to ses
you guys know that they will. I'm giving you advance notice.
This is a week at a time.
Speaker 33 (01:52:55):
UH.
Speaker 2 (01:52:55):
First Southern Illinois at home at Indiana State, and then
you are at SDSU October twenty fifth. So that's when
the Bison will play the Jacks for the marker down
there in Brookings this year. As the only other team
in the valley that was in action today outside of
that's up in the f CS. I'll be honest with you, guys,
not a ton of super appealing matchups. Got a thirty
one seventeen lead for Northern Arizona in the fourth quarter
(01:53:16):
against Portland State, So Arizona the Lumberjacks could be four
and one here. Good record at least for them. That's
a team we're kind of looking at. Etsu Is up
twenty seven to twenty four at home against Mercer in
the seven minute period as well, left in the third quarter.
That's a couple that are still going on. Some finals
from earlier today, I look at the ones that have
at least finished up for the day.
Speaker 1 (01:53:37):
Again, not a whole lot.
Speaker 2 (01:53:38):
Of super appealing ones. New Hampshire beat Albany twenty four
to six to get to three and two. We've got
Fordham all over holy Cross. That one not interesting really
at all, but Fordham gets their first winn of the
year twenty six to twenty one there over holy Cross,
who remains winless a team that's kind of falling off.
Austin Pie is a fun story out of the UAC.
They won forty two to ten against Utah Tech today,
(01:53:58):
so they're down three and two one and one. Though
in UAC play there was a big game though later
on tonight. We will get at nine to twenty tonight
on ESPN two.
Speaker 1 (01:54:07):
If you stay up for it.
Speaker 2 (01:54:08):
Montana in Missoula hosting Idaho should be a fun game
in the big Sky. Guys, staying up for that one,
no amazing.
Speaker 4 (01:54:16):
I got an eight thirty vikings kick tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (01:54:18):
Well, yes, you do, absolutely.
Speaker 12 (01:54:20):
What I will say is we can go to golf
for a second.
Speaker 11 (01:54:22):
Here.
Speaker 12 (01:54:23):
Ryder Cup's going on.
Speaker 1 (01:54:24):
This is the other thing on the scoreboard we had
to get to.
Speaker 12 (01:54:26):
We're getting our butts kicked right now. As Americans.
Speaker 1 (01:54:29):
It's not ugly.
Speaker 2 (01:54:30):
It's not eleven and a half to four and a half.
Did we get swept in the afternoon session? And I
swept all four matchups going to Team Europe, including a
matchup that had Scottie Scheffler and Bryson Deshamba on it
together to the top five golfers in the world, and
they couldn't find a way to win that match.
Speaker 14 (01:54:46):
And losing on home sol I guess a lot of
our listeners are filling with the rider losing on home
soil and the Ryder Cup is bad.
Speaker 2 (01:54:53):
It's like it doesn't happen often.
Speaker 4 (01:54:55):
It's horrible.
Speaker 14 (01:54:56):
It's like if NBC would have lost to South Dakotina
today pretty equivalent to that on Homecoming, exactly.
Speaker 4 (01:55:03):
Eleven and a half points, and they need they only.
Speaker 1 (01:55:06):
Need fourteen and a half to win the whole thing outright.
Speaker 2 (01:55:08):
That's good.
Speaker 4 (01:55:09):
Need to pay attention.
Speaker 1 (01:55:10):
There's no reason to pay attention to that tomorrow. Just
watch your I VIKID skip.
Speaker 4 (01:55:13):
There you go, NFL all day.
Speaker 2 (01:55:14):
I'm surprised the fans out in New York because we
know a hostile they can get on to New York.
I'm surprised they weren't getting booed. Yeah, because honestly, they
kind of deserve it. It has been a pital for
performance from the Americans on the Ryder Cup and to
have it happen at home. There's one thing. If you
go to Rome when you lose lopsided, okay, But to
be at home and have a team just trounce over
you you need don't win any of the sessions in
the first two days. You lost all of them pretty decisively.
(01:55:36):
That it's not good for American golf going forward. I
know we got some golfers on this pan that is
not good. Chris, can you do me a favor? And
reach into that great sign up boxer guy right there,
because we got gotta give away some prizes. We do
have two tumblers to give away, these great forty ounce
stainless steel tumblers at the Bison sixteen sixty logo on
them purpoct for the tailgate lot. There's absolutely phenomenally got
(01:55:58):
a couple of those to give away. So let's draw
two here for these two tumblers.
Speaker 12 (01:56:02):
For the first winner, we have Jacob Sorenson.
Speaker 2 (01:56:05):
Jacob Sorenson. One winner there we go love it and
Steve Steve z Aski is sitting right across from series
the whole show. One of my personal favorites. I don't
have favorites, He's one of my favorites for sure. Out
there for other women's basketball games, Happy Steve won it.
This will be for the two tickets to NDSU Southern
Illinois could be a top ten matchup inside the Dome
in a couple of weeks, so get your tickets for
(01:56:25):
that game as well.
Speaker 12 (01:56:26):
That winner is Maryland stun Seth.
Speaker 2 (01:56:29):
Maryland sten Seth, congratulations to Maryland, big winner of some
Bison football tickets against Southern Illinois. We will give away
some more tickets next week when we're here for the
pregame show next week at Appleby's not postgame because again
it's gonna be a late postgame show Jacob calling in
apparently from Seattle.
Speaker 1 (01:56:45):
But we're gonna have some fun with it.
Speaker 2 (01:56:47):
Nonetheless, NDYUSC wins today fifty one thirteen over USD. Before
we say goodbye, any final thoughts from either of you,
Chris will let you go first here.
Speaker 4 (01:56:57):
I would say that this is what happens with transfer
portal us I hate to see it. At the start
of the year, I would have thought, oh, USD, I'm
more scared of them than I am SDSU I fully
thought that I was all the defections from the jack
Rabbits this year, that oh, it's going.
Speaker 2 (01:57:16):
To be tough for the kind of usdas Yer to
like do something.
Speaker 4 (01:57:22):
And lastly, you know that Aiden Bowman is the last
man left on the Merry Go Round. And what you
saw today was what a lot of people will say.
I hate the Transfer portal. This is why it can
make you good really fast, but USD found out how
it can make you bad really fast, losing that many
good players.
Speaker 2 (01:57:37):
Before your thoughts, Jake, you should mentioned the scoreboard was
brought to you by Jiffy Lupafargo. Thank makes living life
is he No appointment needed at any of their three
locally owned and operated locations, Swinging to make sure your
vehicle is ready for the road and you can travel
stress free because your Jiffy Lupafargo has you covered. Jiffy
Lupafogo where you can do more in a jiffy and
it can get you ready for winter as well.
Speaker 12 (01:57:56):
Jake your thoughts, winter is coming. I'm gonna go kind
on the flip side of that.
Speaker 14 (01:58:01):
We need to appreciate the culture. Like I know Coach
Politic will talk about, you know, culture on building a program. Here,
we're building a program built on culture. What NDSU is
doing in this transfer portal era. I hope our fans
appreciate it. Obviously, Yes, there has been checks written then
some fans very much appreciate and there there's been there
there's the ni n I was happening to NDSU. But
(01:58:22):
the overarching theme is the culture and the people that
we have in place. The players believe in it and
that's why we haven't seen the drop off yet. And
as long as we have guys like Tim Paula sacron
in the program, Matt Larson, our ad as long as
there's like Buyson pride, Buyson culture, and it's not just football,
it's every sport.
Speaker 12 (01:58:40):
That's a big thing. And I just hope our I
hope our fans and our our community appreciates that.
Speaker 4 (01:58:44):
At other schools, it's a slogan here, it's a way
of life.
Speaker 2 (01:58:47):
Yes, yeah means something, that's for sure. And NDSU finding
a way to continue to recruit, retain, develop and develop
addlers of a program right there, that is for sure.
We also want to make sure we mention all of
our coverage today and all week long of NDSU USD
