Speaker 1 (00:00):
Tigers winning eighty four worlds. Here it's the shoulders to
insource for you, of course, wherever you are by.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
This is the Insiders on Bison sixteen sixty, covering the
world of NDSU sports like no other North Dakota State.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
It fancies till around at thirty two.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Guys, the Insiders are presented by Proceed Mead Seed, Thank proceed.
Welcome to your green and Gold HQ for the Bison.
The Insiders on Bison sixteen sixty starts now.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
All right, ladies and gentlemen, welcome on it.

Speaker 4 (00:48):
It is the Insiders here for you on this feel
good Friday.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
We are underway on.

Speaker 4 (00:54):
May the ninth, two thy and twenty five, coming at
you live from the first west Bank Broadcast Center.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
They let us get to Friday gentlemen.

Speaker 4 (01:04):
Sam Naderman, Andy Rick Coffee at Longton in the Crease.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
A little howling this morning. Oh start just warming it up.

Speaker 4 (01:12):
I feel like if if we are acting like they
just cut down the nets, then what are we doing?

Speaker 5 (01:19):
Right?

Speaker 3 (01:19):
I yeah, it just bounced back.

Speaker 4 (01:22):
It's a nice even the series win and uh yeah,
well how a little bit you gotta celebrate it a little.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
Bit, probably howl on a Monday come that that's.

Speaker 4 (01:31):
The idea, that's the spirit. Yeah, right, the wrongs of
game one. Certainly, did Wolves beat the Warriors last night
one seventeen ninety three, I did have in the back
of my mind I wanted to say Wolves by twenty
because I just had the feeling sort of like the
thundered of the Nuggets in Game two, like just get
right at home. Never in doubt, no Curry. That's about

(01:51):
how it played out last night.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
Just in a number of games, one of them was
against their Pacers where I think you had like six
main players out, like four starters and a couple of
good players that weren't playing. Some of the Wolves lost
for the Pacers in that game.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
Too.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
Many of those games they played down yeah, where there's
no you know, top players in there, and they just
come up with no energy and they lose the game.
I just think it's the feeling that could happen again,
even though it is the playoffs. It shouldn't happen. But
after that Game one performance, I was all on edge, thankfully,
trying to get you know, expectations in reality a little bit,
and thankfully they overshot them, lower the bar, they cleared

(02:25):
the bar were good. I don't know with energy from
the jump thirteen oh start, which is good to see. Yep.

Speaker 4 (02:31):
I was a little late to turn it on, admittedly,
and when I did, it was twenty five to seven.
I think it was or eighteen to sound. I was like, okay,
all right, this is about how we were. I've been reversed.
They were down twenty five to seven. Oh oh my god,
this whole place would have burned down. I don't know
if we would have been able to do the show.
But no, it was all good. Wolves bounced back and

(02:51):
I was watching. I mean, it wasn't the most beautiful
basketball game, so I kind of abandoned it in the
third quarter. I said, I think they've got this wrapped
up tight. No Curry, and that's kind of what I
signed up for. It was like, give us the Warriors,
give us Curry, you know, and let's get this thing going.
Ant goes down with an ankle, ends up being okay,
with a little serious for a second. It did for

(03:12):
a moment. It did for a moment.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
The Lepans jumping around like okay, we're the TNT crew
is kind of making fun of him. Paul Pierce light
or something after with resistance bands jumping around like, my goodness,
I think he's just fine. Yeah, questionable return, Okay, yeah,
we'll see how questionable he looks. He's done that a
couple of times this year. He's gone down with injuries.
And thankfully he's twenty three. We all know what it

(03:35):
was like three twenty three. You bounced back a little
bit more. Some of us are close to that age
than others in this studio. Right now, he definitely bunces
back a little quicker than twenty three, and it's a
little rolled ankle. You can get the adrenaline pumping. The
old fountain of youth, man, the old fountain of youth. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (03:49):
So nice win last night for the Wolves. Fun to
watch it and fun to have Mark Willard on talking
about it yesterday. Warriors definitely a different team without Curry,
that is for sure, completely a different team.

Speaker 3 (04:01):
They don't have a point guard. Oh, anybody really running
the show. Butler does not want to be that guy.
Draymond can do it in transition, but not really in
the half court. And now the biggest thing for Steve
Kerr to have to try and maneuver around is, yes,
you don't have Curry. You still got Butler and Green.
They can get you some offense, and they can kind
of get some other guys some looks. And it worked

(04:22):
for stretches there yesterday last night. But at some point,
because of their age, Butler's gotta take a break and
Draymond's gotta take a break because of his age as well,
but also because he's just gonna run hot, tempered and
almost get himself thrown out of the game every time,
like he did last night. And when one of those two,
and especially when both of those two are off the floor,
that team is completely lost. It is shot clock violation

(04:45):
after shot clock violation. It's Moses Moody throwing up step back,
fade away three's that come up five feet short of
the rim. It was bad offense for a little while there,
which is why the Wolves are gonna win this series
on defense. If they're gonna win it, it starts on the
defensive end. When the defensive intensity was there, I'd come
back and hit a three, or they get a steal
and get a dunk on the other side with McDaniels
or Ant or somebody else. The defense, that's what's gonna

(05:06):
be the catalyst for them in this game and in
this series, and when the Warriors got back into it,
it's because the Wolves is hided not to get back
on defense. They'd make a shot and then the Warriors
would come down on the fast break and get a
layup or a dunk on the other side after a
made basket or you have an off of you know,
a turnover or something, or a misshot. They're just beating
the Wolves on the floor. That's gonna be like twenty
five to thirty percent of their offense this series. Without Curry,

(05:28):
you just cannot get beat on the floor. That was
lazy for a little while there. They righted it though,
and if you get back in the half court and
play defense, I don't see this Warriors team being able
to put up enough points to beat the Wolves that
they're on on offense.

Speaker 4 (05:40):
Zoom out right, no panic after the first one. Stay
steady your Wolves, and five is still live, goa. It's
gonna take the profession.

Speaker 3 (05:47):
Have to do it at five. They want to do
it because I think Curry could be back for that
game six with that long Wednesday to Sunday layoffs. So
you gotta take advantage of these series or these games
without Curry and at the very least be up three
to two going to Game six. I think you should
be able to end it in five if they take
every game seriously. But I could still see a culture

(06:08):
win for Draymond or Butler has a crazy game, or
he goes off again and could go back to Minnesota
for Game six. But you have to be up three
to two.

Speaker 4 (06:15):
No Dilly dolling, that's for sure. But we can't howl
a little bit as we keep going. Today, Wolves win
it over the Warriors. Gonna be a fun show as
we move on here on this feel good Friday. As
Ian likes to say, they let us get to Friday.
We have a triple threat feel good Friday. Tons of
great guests are the Rick Electric Daily guest lineup. Derek

(06:35):
Lang at the top of our number two. Can't wait
to talk with Langer. Andy, is you Teammakers executive director,
former buys a football player, Teammakers Golf is kicking into
gear here at golf el opens coming. You just shot
at eighty seven last night?

Speaker 3 (06:51):
Right. I did have to ask Langer if I'm no
longer allowed to golf and these Teammakers opens. I'm just
too Goodinger on a team like that, you know, not
even close to that. But I had a good round yesterday.
I got there golf with a couple of buddies and
that was really fun. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (07:05):
I and you were at Elzagel right getting a little
warm up, little preseason action.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
I shot a forty.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
Okay, yeah, shot a forty. Yeah, good job.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
No pars, but a lot of bogies.

Speaker 5 (07:16):
It was.

Speaker 6 (07:17):
That was just.

Speaker 3 (07:17):
Boogie golf is good golf considered we might need to do.

Speaker 4 (07:21):
I might need to go out to Elzegle, Andy, You
and I went out to Elzegl about this time last year,
and I think my first shot was was like decent,
and then after that everything else kind of went off.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
The last sand bag and you've been talking about the
first shot like that was almost perfect.

Speaker 7 (07:36):
Yeah, sounds like please just give me this one, just
like the first shot is like, just give me this one.

Speaker 4 (07:40):
That was a big one. Set in the toe, that
was a big one. Well we went to did we
go to the Meadows last year? Is that where we played?

Speaker 3 (07:46):
Or no?

Speaker 4 (07:46):
We went up north last year. I'm still getting familiar
with the far Edgewood. Edgewood is what we played last
You were in at the d L open with Open
Meadows last year. So yeah, I'm getting to know them
and uh yeah, we'll see I and I can get
some permanent clubs and catch up to mister Rady seven
over here. That could be I'd be interesting. That could
be the to settle all all of our competition.

Speaker 1 (08:08):
We can put a pie on that for sure.

Speaker 4 (08:10):
Yeah, yeah, I still have to do the pie here.
We'll get the pie for March Madness. We'll get the
pie from March bad as you guys have forgotten for
a moment, but I will own up to it. And
uh future crops still in the mix. Of course, we
had the trade earlier. John Austin was just walking by
the studio and keeping on the down load the PGA.

(08:30):
Next week's cheah next week, this is it. So but yeah,
Derek Lang top of our number two. We'll have some
bets of the week as well. Bob Hannon's gonna join
us our number two Youngstown State play by play man.
Can't wait to talk with Bob. He's been doing it
thirty seven years out there with the Penguins. Veteran radio broadcaster,

(08:51):
and we'll get the lowdown on Youngstown State. Bison played
them in November, So they are back on the valley
schedule for the Bison football. Last time we played in
was twenty twenty two. Been a little bit, and that
was in the far Dome if you remember. I remember
watching that game back preparing to come out here. It
was close going to the fourth quarter, and yes, you
pulled away. I believe it was twenty seven fourteen.

Speaker 3 (09:11):
With the finals, are that way with them, Yeah, just
grind it, find a way to keep it close going
to the fourth and just see what happens. And yes,
he's been able to win the majority of those type
of ones. But you haven't got a chance to go
out to the ice Castle. Yeah, not yet, in like
November or something. Do that. And they always play a
night too, They got that night time out of the lights. Yeah,
I got a few of those. Asked cold Jerich about

(09:31):
the snnami basically at the Youngstown State.

Speaker 4 (09:35):
Yeah, growing up in Indiana, I mean familiar. We had
some neighbors who were Youngstown State grad and knew about
Jim Trestol and the football tradition out there. So yeah,
I'm excited to see them come here to Fargo in November.
We'll break that all down with Bob, get their thoughts
on this Missouri Valley Football Conference Summit League partnership, because
they're the odd team out, they're out of the Horizon

(09:55):
League for all their other sports, and they're obviously the
furthest east of all the Valley football teams. Bob Hannon
twelve thirty, we'll chat Youngstown State Penguins with him, and
then of course Tyler Oaks, as always Bison baseball coach,
will join us here at eleven thirty in the first
hour preview the series against Saint Thomas. Final thoughts on
the RedHawks exhibition from Wednesday, we'll get to that, and
then of course feel good news of the week to

Tucker Thieneman, who is the big get over SEC and
Big ten schools this prospect. The Bison got committing over
more FBS schools as well, and what we saw with
last year's class, the Bison continue to impress there on

as we continue going on with the commit that NDSU got.

Old Broadway two pm tomorrow Elevated Brim Traveling Custom Hat

time for country concert season. And hey, I heard a
little rumor that the FCS National Championship might be in Nashville.
Might not get an NDSU custom cowboy hat bring it

think that still fits in Nashville absolutely, so we could

(16:45):
do that and then bring your passport completely punched by
all locations, bring it over to Cowboy Jacks for the
final stop on the pup Crawl, and you can enter

was a legitimate goal.

Speaker 4 (18:11):
Yeah, I know, Mark, wherever you're at, I know you're
out there. You're ready to go on standby seven oh
one four seven six, sixteen sixty if you want to
get it. We will get Derek Lang a little earlier. Now,
we're going to get him at the top of the hour.
We're gonna get him at eleven thirty Tyler Oaks. We'll
trade him back to Nude, so we'll get coach Jokes
and the start of the second hour, Derek Lane coming

(18:31):
up at eleven thirty. NDSU football new recruit got another
commit last night.

Speaker 1 (18:36):
Andy.

Speaker 3 (18:36):
It's a good one. Kobe Russell.

Speaker 4 (18:38):
He's an athlete dB wide receiver out of Prescott, Wisconsin.
It sounds like he's going to play dB for the
Bison and he commits to NDSU. Over listen to this
list of schools. Fresno State, Wyoming, SDSU, Northern Illinois, so
you got your your big rival, and a few other

(19:00):
FBS schools, Kent State, Central Michigan as well more mac
FBS schools, und Northern Iowa. All of these schools offered him,
but he chooses the Bison. NDSU was his first offer
back in November of last season, so he stays loyal,
stays true. NDSU on him first and they pick up
a good athlete for this twenty twenty sixth class Kobe

(19:23):
Russell out of the state of Wisconsin six one one ninety.
Love that frame. It sounds like he'll be able to
help in the secondary for the Bison moving forward once
he's signed.

Speaker 3 (19:34):
Absolutely, I mean another good get and we always say
not just Tim paulsek Pi can go back to Matt
Enz and Chris Climban like that. NDSU offer comes in.
Other offers are coming. That's what they tell those recruits.
Other offers are coming. You're here first. Remember we were
the ones that that Saja Firs and know what the
potential is and other team c NDSU offered a guy.
Maybe this guy is better than we thought, or maybe

(19:54):
we hadn't heard of this guy. We need to check
him out and see what they're what they're looking at.
Maybe if we're missing something. Another offers tend to come in,
and I love that he's sticking with the first ones.
You're going to have Kobe a board dB wide receiver.
I think both of those rooms you look at after
this year, I think the wide receiver room. We've talked
about the depth there like it is a crazy good
depth and it is Bryce Lands last year. A lot

(20:16):
of other guys like Roger are going to be last
year as well. You got some other guys that are
contributors in that room that is last year for them.
Next year we're gonna be talking about kind of a
new era of the wide receivers. Now. Jackson Williams was
still the half right, I bet you need some more
guys to come alongside them, and I think you could
see a guy like him maybe step up early in
the receiver room or the dB room. You also have

(20:36):
a lot of guys who'd been going into kind their
last year, so either room it ends up being I
think that's a very good depth. Ad. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (20:41):
Ninety one offers for Kobe Russell. He was the top
athlete in Wisconsin all state in Wisconsin at both the
defensive back and wide receiver position. I loved his tweet
that he put out there yesterday says I'm rolling with
you at coach Tim Dsu, at coach Will Johnson, at
co Grant Olsen hashtag roll heerd with the horns up

(21:03):
emoji put out a little commitment graphic as well. So
a huge get I know everybody had. The staff was
fired up for it. Saw Pat Lilly love it. When
we see Pat or Coach p or whoever it is,
say all right, a big Bison coming.

Speaker 3 (21:18):
We've got a big commit.

Speaker 4 (21:19):
And then you see the commit post a couple hours
later or a couple minutes later, whatever it ends up being.
But Kobe Russell from the state of Wisconsin. So NDSU's
twenty twenty six class, it's beginning to take shape. Remember
last year it was like the Summer of the Bison, right,
and this was when we were getting all the different commits.
The first big domino to fall was Tucker theeneman, the

(21:43):
offensive lineman from Pelwaukee, Wisconsin, who the Bison got. He
committed over multiple power schools. You're talking SEC, you're talking
big ten. Well, now ndysu's got a few more commits.
And it's not just the portal commits that they've been
able to get, but it's the high school class, a
smaller class compared to last year twenty twenty five, you

(22:04):
had thirty plus commits on the entire class because you
really had to build it out. Think of all the
seniors that Indians you just graduated this year. Well, the
rest of this twenty five class, Ryan Babbitts, James Nellis,
all these guys not named Money, Mitchell zerreonro Smith who
are already in for spring, Jalen Archibald too, They're all
going to be coming in August, so they're all going

(22:24):
to fill out the rest of this roster. By the
time we get to fall camp. This twenty six class
will be a little bit smaller, but clearly the quality
of recruit the Wisconsin connection, they all continue to be
themes here for NDSU on the recruiting trail.

Speaker 3 (22:38):
Well, plus, you had a factor in those first couple
of seasons. Really the first year, last year's freshman could
say that's more of a matt Enz class, whereas Tim
Paulsik now trying to make the model, make the roster
and the model of his image a little bit, remake
it add depth in certain spots. Now I think he's
got that roster and not only the starters, but the
depth of that roster. You think you're always thinking two

(22:59):
or three class ahead and where's the next growth coming from.
Now he kind of got that roster where you want it,
so it might be slightly smaller than you have had
in the last couple of classes here too. No doubt
the good get number one dB in Wisconsin. So it
probably ends up being a defensive back, which is totally fine.
But an athlete guy can who knows, maybe guy guy
who plays on both sides of the ball. It could

(23:19):
be a Travis Hunter tight ever know that's a really
good get and continuing to do some work out there
in Wisconsin.

Speaker 17 (23:25):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (23:25):
Good to see.

Speaker 4 (23:26):
Twenty twenty six class. Here's what you got. Tucker Theeneman
offensive tackle from Milwaukee, three star.

Speaker 3 (23:32):
Recruit who had power four offers.

Speaker 4 (23:35):
Maryland Ole, Miss Missoo, Florida also in the mix. He
chooses the Bison. Jack Wilson from Mount Horror of Wisconsin.
Mount Horror just outside of Madison linebacker at six two two,
twenty five three star commit. His dad, I actually met
his dad at a practice this spring. Used to be

(23:55):
the old athletic trainer for Wisconsin football Badgers. Old athletic train.
That's not horrible bull. No, it's not. No, it is
not Mount Horrible Ian. It is what it is.

Speaker 3 (24:08):
That's all right, Horror Wisconson. I have heard some of
the nick Daves there.

Speaker 4 (24:13):
Kobe Russell, who just committed, is now the third highest
recruit from Prescott, Wisconsin to dB Daniel Devine, whose brother
is also committed in this year's class. D Lineman from
Academy of Holy Angels down in the Twin Cities. Q
Barnslater from Apple Valley, Minnesota, wide receiver Miles Ellis from Illinois.

(24:34):
He's a wide receiver. Kyle Schlichting who we talked about
from West Fargo, Cheyenne. He got the class started. He
was the first commit at the end of March. Gunnard
Thiegals from Lamore Athletes staying in the state of North Dakota.
And then of course Trey McPartland, who recruited committed a
couple of weeks ago from Valley City Offensive Tackles. So
those are nine commits for the Bison in this twenty

(24:57):
twenty six class. Kobe Russell now the latest one, one
from Prescott, Wisconsin, and he chooses NDSU over again Fresno, Wyoming,
Northern Illinois, Kent State, Central Michigan. Ninety one offers also
chose them over SDSU and U and D You and I,
as well a lot of other schools in the Valley.
It's a good get for the Bison to bulk up

(25:18):
the secondary depth and the first secondary player here really
in this twenty twenty six class. So eleven twenty six,
we're glad that you're with us. Should be a fun Friday.
We've got a triple threat on the Rick Electric Daily
guest lineup, and we're gonna get it started when we
come back. Derek Lang, Bison football former alum and NDSU

(25:40):
team makers exec. He's gonna join us. We'll talk some
teammakers golf and Bison as well. Langer on the other side.

Mm hmm.

Speaker 4 (29:47):
You got Saint Thomas playing a little urgency. They want
to try and get that regular season title. So we'll
see if Anys you can play a spoiler. We will
have coach jokes at noon, but before we get to that,
we got to go to the Brady Marts Hotline. First
guest of the day, Triple Threat Friday joining us now
former Bison and Andy su team makers executive director. It's

(30:09):
Derek Lang kind enough to give us some time here
on a Friday. We've got teammakers golf ounding starting up,
and it'll be fall camp before you know it for
Bison football. But Langer, we appreciate it. Man, thanks for
joining us. How are you, sir? And Hope.

Speaker 3 (30:24):
It's been a good Friday so far?

Speaker 23 (30:26):
Samuel, thanks, thanks for having me on all.

Speaker 22 (30:29):
It's good.

Speaker 23 (30:29):
I'm actually you guys are just talking about Bison baseball.
I'm actually in the Twin Cities area as well. Got
down here yesterday so we had a social event with
our football staff here in the Twin Cities last night
and then looking forward to going on the Twins the
game tonight. With the football program being being recognized, put

(30:51):
a little pressure on coach Poulsach throwing out the first pitch.
We'll see if he make sure he doesn't throw it
in the dirt tonight.

Speaker 3 (30:58):
Yeah, we need a breaking news sounder. I gotta have
a break. I mean, we didn't know tonight at the
Twins game.

Speaker 5 (31:08):
You got it here first.

Speaker 3 (31:10):
Wow, you're breaking news. That's what he does.

Speaker 23 (31:13):
Yeah, we're we're looking forward to that tonight. And obviously,
you know, a great honor for the football program after
win another national championship this last year.

Speaker 5 (31:22):
So yeah, all all is good.

Speaker 3 (31:26):
First pitch?

Speaker 5 (31:29):
What that?

Speaker 3 (31:29):
Have you ever thrown at a first pitch at a game?

Speaker 5 (31:31):
I have not. I have not.

Speaker 23 (31:33):
I don't think that would go very well, to be
honest with Andy, I would have to get quite a
bit of target practicing before I did something like that,
I think. But but coach coaches used to being on
being on the on the bump but yep pitcher back
in the day. So yeah, that that'll be fun.

Speaker 3 (31:51):
I believe he was that.

Speaker 4 (31:52):
I believe Coach Gazer, Coach Goose was his catcher. If
I'm not mistaken, I'm gonna have to double check and verify. Yeah,
so is any way we could get coach Goose behind
the players are gonna be one of the twins.

Speaker 3 (32:04):
I assume is probably gonna be catching.

Speaker 23 (32:06):
Yeah, I would imagine it's probably one of the twins.
But that would that'd be that'd be fun for old
times take to get those get those two back on
the baseball field together. So yeah, we'll see how that
goes tonight.

Speaker 4 (32:18):
Yeah, that's a tandem right there for sure. All right,
we'll be looking out for some pictures and videos.

Speaker 3 (32:23):
Can't wait. Sure it'll be fun to talk with coach
that's around a five game winning streak to so some
pressure here, the good vibes going down there.

Speaker 23 (32:31):
Yeah, hopfully we can. Hopefully we can get to buy
and win today. I'm the on the baseball diamond here
at Saint Thomas and then see the Twins game to night.
So hope we're gonna check out both love it.

Speaker 4 (32:41):
Derek lang Is is here with us on the Brady
Marts Hotline. Well, this this is kind of like the
wind down, Derek, we've had. The Green and Gold Gala
was on Sunday. So this is it for the student athletes.
It's you know, conference tournaments coming on the horizon for baseball,
track and field as well. And then obviously we've wrapped

(33:01):
up spring for Bison football and we're going into the
summer and that means that this is a big time
for teammakers and the golf outings give us a rundown
on what's that looking like for this summer and all
the different locations and opportunities to come out and support
the Bison.

Speaker 23 (33:17):
Yeah, it's officially golf season. I was telling that Larsen
the other day. I've I've not pulled my golf clubs
out from the from the basement, so I need to
need to do that here at some point. But yeah,
it's it's crazy that it's you're ready, But we're getting
geared up for all of our our teammakers golf outings
as you mentioned, for the summer, and those are always

(33:38):
a lot of fun, I meanutes, it's a great opportunity
for our fans supporters, whether you're a teammaker or not.
Obviously would love to have you joint teammakers, but you
do not have to be a teammaker to attend and
participate in our golf tournaments. But we do have six
golf tournaments throughout the summer. We'll get started up here
in a couple of weeks. Our Our first one is

(33:58):
in Detroit Lakes. That Detroit Country Club on Thursday, June
fifth is the first one, and then we're in We're
in Devil's Lake later in later in June, move over
to Haley in July, and then we have three different
tournaments in Fargo as well in in August and September.
So try to spread them out as as much as

(34:20):
we can to try to hit different different parts of
North Dakota in western Minnesota. But again, those are a
great opportunity to uh to hear from our coaches. Our
coaches and administration do a great job of being at
those events giving updates on the program. Also, you know,
typically a great opportunity for for people to play with

(34:42):
our coaches and spend the day with them on the course,
get a gift, and and then again you know, have
a chance to hear from from coaches and student athletes.
So those are great events to be a part of
during the summer, and all of the registrations are are
live and open on on our website, go Buyson dot com.

Speaker 5 (35:01):
Uh flash golf, So.

Speaker 23 (35:03):
Get a team together, do a whole sponsorship above to
find find a way for people to get involved.

Speaker 3 (35:09):
So looking forward to those this summer, Yeah, find any
su team makers there online and go look at these
events everything else they got going on. You guys have
been doing these events for a little while. You've seen
the numbers and you've seen biers. The nation can of
continue to come out to these ones, especially over the summer,
where like Sam was saying earlier, you know, football is
winding down. Sports are winding down, and conference championships are
upon us here for baseball and a few others. What

(35:32):
have you seen from the crowds at these events and
especially the information just some of our fans wanting to
know what's going on during this kind of down period.

Speaker 23 (35:41):
Yeah, no, they've they've been very well attended, you know,
most of them for the for the most part, typically
the our tournaments in Fargo, which which isn't a surprise sellout,
you know, So if you're interested in those Fargo events,
i'd suggest getting on the website now and getting signed up.
But yeah, they've they've been good. Obviously we have a

(36:02):
great contingent of you know, Lake's Country and.

Speaker 5 (36:04):
To try lakes.

Speaker 13 (36:05):
Uh.

Speaker 23 (36:05):
So that's a great opportunity for people to to take
the Friday off of that one and make a long
weekend into it. But it's also fun for us too
to go, like Devil's Lake for example. You know, we're
so fortunate our fans are are so good to us
and their support, you know, coming from long distances, you know,
throughout the football season and throughout the academic year to

(36:27):
come to Fargo to watch our kids compete. So look,
it's also a great opportunity for us. Again, Devil'sakes been
a good example. It's it's a chance for us, you know,
to go see them versus them always having it comes
to us. Yeah, So it's awesome to see you know,
all the teams that.

Speaker 5 (36:46):
Come out to Double's Lake.

Speaker 23 (36:48):
Typically we're around twenty five to thirty teams there and
it's a it's a really fun group. So yeah, they've
they've been great local above to see some new.

Speaker 3 (36:56):
Faces, no doubt about it.

Speaker 4 (36:58):
Derek Lang here with us on the Brady Martch Highline again.
Go to Gobison dot com. Slash golf really easy to
get to go Bison dot com slash golf for more
info on all the Teammakers golf events this summer.

Speaker 3 (37:11):
How was the year for you overall? Derek?

Speaker 4 (37:13):
Just with teammakers, we know it's a changing landscape right
now in college athletics, the Graduating Champions program We've talked
a lot about with with Matt Larson. How was the
year just in support for NDSU athletics, So going back
to August up until now, yeah, it was.

Speaker 23 (37:32):
It was another fun, successful year in terms of serving
our student athletes, which ultimately that's prody number one, you
know for teammakers, But yeah, we teamakers have continued to
evolve as the world of college athletics has evolved, as
you just belitted to.

Speaker 5 (37:50):
So you know, what was an.

Speaker 23 (37:51):
Organization that primarily just provided funds for scholarships, you know,
fifteen twenty years ago. Because of our girl, we've been
able to continue to find different ways to support our
student athletes as we're able to do more things. So yes,
priority number one always scholarships, but we're also supporting our

(38:12):
student athletes through cost of attendance, through the Graduating Champions Awards,
which you just mentioned, facilities were able to help the department,
finish some facility projects, the indoor practice facility being a
great example, and then just continuing to help as the
athletics budgets continue to grow at NBCU. You know, we've

(38:34):
just been able to help continue balance that growing budget
for the department and making sure that we're providing everything
we possibly can for our student athletes. So really proud
of you know, our full time staff, our board. Again,
another great years as we continue to add new tools
for our coaches to recruit the best and greatest kids

(38:55):
across the country to come NBSU. So very successful from
that standpoint, and obviously you know the success that our
student athletes had in competition, I think that's peoper are
well aware of that.

Speaker 5 (39:08):
But what our.

Speaker 23 (39:08):
Continue to do in the classroom, it's just as phenomenal
and worshiper proud of them and the representatives that they
are for for not only you know, North North Coast state,
but the state of North Dakota. So a great year
went too fast, but it always.

Speaker 3 (39:25):
Does, it always does. Yeah, it goes by in the
blink of an eye. Sometimes just a couple of days ago,
we were getting ready for Colorado and that first game
with football against the against the Buffalo is out there
with Shadarisanders and obviously Travis Hunter the Heisman. Literally we
know what the Bismen are facing that day. But I
want to ask you something on just the landscape of
kind of the ANTSU fan base. Have you've you've gotten

(39:45):
to see this up close here for a number of
years with teammakers and what this changing landscape as you
kind of alluded to there with college athletics, like you
guys are not just fundraising for scholarships and stuff now
like you're being able to with the successive team makers
be able to contribute in a lot of differ in areas.
Do you feel like with the NDSU kind of alumni
base and everything is are you kind of at the

(40:06):
maximum right now? Can there be another level of NDSU?
Would ever move around conferences or something like? Is there
more you can tap into here? Do you feel like
you're kind of at that that top level?

Speaker 4 (40:18):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (40:18):
I think so?

Speaker 23 (40:19):
And you know, us being here in Minneapolis is probably
a really good example of that. You know, us expanding
beyond Fargo and continue to grow and engage with alumni fans,
so that that's really one of the big purposes of us.
You know, coming to a place like Minneapolis is to

(40:40):
see some new faces, you know, But the grouping are
with last night, there's probably sixty or seventy fans there,
which was a really good turnout for us here. But
you know, ask ask that group bring bring two friends
with the next time, because there's there's always more dollars
out there to be raised, and obviously if they're has
ever opportunity for nd s U to to move in

(41:03):
a different conference, you know, as conference re alignment you know,
continues to evolve. Yes, I think finding finding new people
to get involved is always a priority for us. But
one thing I do know about our fan base too
is they've always answered the bell anytime we've we've challenged
them or asked them to help, which is great because

(41:27):
our fans, our donors, are alumni. They want to see
NDCU be successful. So I feel really good about whatever
opportunities there may be out there for us in the future.
We'll we'll find a way to make sure if we're
going to do something that we're going to do it
to go in there and win championships and continue to
to help our student athletes to earn a first class

(41:49):
you know, degree from nd SU.

Speaker 5 (41:51):
So yeah, our.

Speaker 23 (41:53):
Fans have always stepped up to the challenge, and I
believe we'll.

Speaker 17 (41:55):
Continue to do that.

Speaker 4 (41:56):
Yeah, I've seen it firsthand here Derek O these last
two years for sure, Bison Nation always ready to answer
the bell. Talking with Derek Laying, executive director of NDSU
team makers, former Bison as well. Just just on Bison
football here, Derek's been quite quite the the offseason post Frisco.
I mean, we were at the White House less than

(42:17):
a month ago. Still it feels like it was forever ago.
A lot's happened since then. When we were at the
White House, Cam and Gray get drafted. Uh, just take
us through your reaction with those two draft picks, for
Grey going in the first round and Cam going in
the sixth round. You've seen these guys develop throughout their
careers and now they're gonna have a chance to play

(42:37):
on Sundays.

Speaker 23 (42:39):
Yeah, you know, just so so happy and proud of
those guys against good examples of just awesome investors, you know,
for any issue. Yeah, it's pretty crazy you think about it.
We've had three first round draft picks the last nine years.
Something like that got pretty close. There's probably a lot

(42:59):
of power for institutions that can't say that, but that's
that's pretty awesome. But specifically and those guys, you know,
really happy obviously for for Gray. You know, kind of
crazy how that all just ramped up and he ended
up going and going in the first round. But it
seemed like, you know, I don't know a ton about

(43:20):
the Seahawks and and their roster, but that seems like
a great organization for him to go to. Very stable,
you know, they're that general manager. I believe he's a
Wisconsin guy as well too, actually, but he's been there
a long time. You know, they have a system and
it works. They're consistent, which that's everything that that Gray

(43:41):
is about. And I think obviously his versatility and ability
to play all three positions on the offensive line will
we'll serve him really well and I anticipate, you know,
he'll have a long and successful career there in Seattle.
So not to mention, hopefully you know, another great place
excuse for all us to go and visit right oh

(44:05):
there now, yeah summer huh, Yeah, that's pretty cool then.
And obviously Cam too, you know, just so happy for
him as well. You know, as I look back and
think about his career at NBSU, just the just the
the roller coaster, you know that he was on through
getting thrown in there and in COVID and you know.

Speaker 5 (44:27):
Replacing.

Speaker 23 (44:29):
The legends that came before him at that position. Just
the pressure you know that that puts on a twenty
year old kid, and how he handled it, never gave up,
took on the pressure, took on all the challenges that
came with that, and just kept getting kept getting better.
I mean, cam Miller is a great example of what

(44:50):
college athletics is and should be about. So for him
to have the amount of success that he did have here
ended with the championship and then reach probably his ultimate
goal of being you know, drafted in the NFL. You know,
I'd expect him to have a lot of success there.

Speaker 5 (45:08):
And it's such a quick.

Speaker 23 (45:11):
Learn too, I think, still going there and nothing. We'll
face them, you know when it comes to taking on
that next challenge.

Speaker 5 (45:17):
So just really really happy.

Speaker 17 (45:19):
Probably those guys.

Speaker 4 (45:21):
Langer, you played on teams that won the championship and
you're coming back as the defending champs, and you've got
to turn that page and put everything away from the
previous year and make sure that you're focused on getting
it done for the next year, and we're part of
the teams that did that successfully. Uh, what was that
like as a player, and what do you think it's
like for for this current group? Right Bison back on top.

(45:44):
A lot of seniors depart and now this group has
a chance to kind of take the reins and write
their own story. How is that mentality as a player
when you're coming off of a title and you've got
to turn the page and get ready to work for
the next one.

Speaker 23 (45:57):
Yeah, I think that's a great question. I think the
ace in the hole for NDFU, and has been for
a long time in turn in terms of turning that
page is Jim Kramer and Ryan Napoli in the weight room.
Those guys do a phenomenal job of After the season,
our guys get a couple of weeks off, but when
they get back in that weight room to start off

(46:18):
season training, those two guys in the weight room make
sure that our guys have turned the page. And last
year is last year. This is a completely new team,
so it's time to go out there and turn it again.
So I think in addition to coach politic, obviously those
guys in the weight rooms set the tone for what's ahead.
The next challenge is what it's going to take to repeat.

(46:40):
So I think the page has been turned already for
this next year. And then yeah, just obviously the biggest
thing to there will be who are who are your
next cam Miller's your next grade labels? In terms of
the leadership of making sure guys are doing the right things,
getting in the weight room, taking care of their new
t it won't get any easier. Obviously, We've had the

(47:03):
target on our backs for over a decade now, so
that won't be anything new for our guys.

Speaker 5 (47:10):
I mean every.

Speaker 23 (47:11):
Every week, every game we play at our level, you know,
and you see we are their super Bowl. So so
those those expectations, pressures will be there, but I know
I haven't been there before. Our guys, Our guys will
be ready for the challenge, and I know they're they're
back working hard, and I think they're have a little
time off here and then get back to some a workout,

(47:33):
so it'll be another fun here.

Speaker 3 (47:35):
Very well said. Since you do have a former player
with us, and we had a debate about something with
NDSU football right after the spring game, I think it
would be a good time to ask you this as well.
All yellow uniform, Oh boy, yay r nay boy, Derek
Lang all yellow like the offense head there during the
spring game.

Speaker 23 (47:56):
I'm gonna give it. So that's that's a little bit
of a loaded question. I'm gonna give it a nay overall,
just because I've I've seen examples. I think our our
skill position guys, it looks pretty good, looks pretty sharp

(48:17):
when it comes to the big skill offensive defensive line.

Speaker 3 (48:22):
Not so good you're saying there.

Speaker 23 (48:26):
I'm not as not as good of a look even
you know, these guys are obviously in great shape, but
not as good of a look. So I'm I'm not
I gotta give to the all.

Speaker 3 (48:37):
Yellows in they Okay, you're on Sam, so that one,
I'm right there with you.

Speaker 23 (48:44):
Bananas are a no go.

Speaker 3 (48:47):
The all green is a good look too. I'm okay
with that one.

Speaker 5 (48:50):
All green. I'm good with it.

Speaker 4 (48:51):
I applaud the experimentation like there's a tie to do it.

Speaker 3 (48:54):
It's all good. But yeah, I like the traditional the
traditional bison. Last one for you. If somebody just got
a birdie recently, are they considered a ringer for the
NDSU Teammakers Golf outings.

Speaker 23 (49:08):
If someone just got a birdie.

Speaker 3 (49:09):
Recently in the last twenty four hours or so, and.

Speaker 4 (49:17):
What's that and he's feeling good, he shot in eighty
seven last night, he's he's ready to.

Speaker 15 (49:21):
Roll for d L.

Speaker 23 (49:23):
I don't know if one birdie considers your ring.

Speaker 5 (49:27):
I've gotten a birdie in.

Speaker 23 (49:28):
My life, and I know I'm nothing close to a ringer,
so I'm not convinced on that. How about you just
get out to our tournaments and improve that you're a
true ringer.

Speaker 3 (49:38):
Deal we'll do. We'll be out there for sure. My
very best. Yes, love it. Thanks for the time, Derek.
I always appreciate catching up with you again. Those Teammakers
outings go to go Buyson dot com, slash golf, look
up the Teamaker's website for other events that got going
on as well. Best of luck there with the Twins
and the first pitch for Coach p We'll talk with
you again soon, my man.

Speaker 17 (49:59):
Love it.

Speaker 23 (49:59):
Thanks you having because appreciate all you do.

Speaker 4 (50:01):
Thanks, I appreciate you. There it goes Derek Lang live
in the Twins series. That's gonna be awesome, Coach be
with the first pitch. Uh here for the twins. Gate
can't wait to see the pictures of the videos for that.
If Coach Gazer could catch that, like we talked about,
they used to be picture and catcher growing up in
Wisconsin together.

Speaker 3 (50:22):
Pretty deep man. You think Goose wants to catch it? Oh?

Speaker 4 (50:26):
I I think that would be a lot of fun.
I mean, I'm sure the twins are gonna. Twins are
gonna say, hey, get down the crouch you catch Yeah.

Speaker 3 (50:34):
Yeah, No, you gotta gotta get loose, stand you know,
you throw it right here on them standing.

Speaker 4 (50:40):
Yeah, goodness, grazeous to throw a first pitch though you've
never done it, never happened.

Speaker 3 (50:44):
Yeah, I mean Lager had never done it. I've never
done ian. You've never done it. Over there. It's up
a mountain, but that was pre high school. M mm hmmm. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (50:52):
Some people cheat with the first pitch that they're walking
down from the mountain. You gotta take that thing on
the mound and stand in the and throw a strike.
That's the whole object. Oh, I guarantee it. I guarantee it.
That's gonna be right out right down Broadway, right down
the pipe there. It should be a lot of fun.
Who do the Twins have tonight? They've been winning here.

Speaker 3 (51:12):
They just got done with the sweep of the Baltimore Orioles,
so they're done with that series. They have one five
in a row, took a couple, they got against the
Red Sox, swept the Orioles, and now I got the
Giants coming. Yeah, Miller on the.

Speaker 4 (51:28):
Giants, Yeah I think so. Yeah, Wow, Wolves, Warriors, Twins,
Giants struggle right now. Yeah, yeah, I think it's nd
S U night, So it should be a lot of fun.
Great that they had the Team Makers event out there,
and of course buys and baseball against Saint Thomas as well,
So it should be a great weekend down there in

(51:50):
the Twin Cities. Love talking with Langer, Love the thoughts
on h on complacency, that's a that's a huge thing,
right and you got the win. Now it's on the
next team and the weight room. That's been the resounding
answer whenever we bring that idea up. Is it Coach Kramer,
coach Napolo, They got the guys ready to roll.

Speaker 3 (52:08):
You think you're really good, you think you're hot stuff,
and win a championship. You going to that weight room
and Kramer gives it the first workout. Got a feeling
that is, from what we've heard, a humbling experience. He
won a championship and he'll just put you through your
paces pretty quickly. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (52:22):
Yeah, that's one way to uh to bring you right
back down to earth. It is Coach Kramer right there.
Still have a lot to do here. In hour number two,
we're gonna get Tyler Oaks in here. Start hour number
two at noon, we'll talk about this Saint Thomas series
for Bison baseball as well, Bob Hannon talking some Youngstown
State can't wait to talk with Bob. Buys are going
to play them for the first time in two years

(52:44):
to start the month of November, so be on the
lookout for that. We'll chat with him at about twelve
thirty one of.

Speaker 3 (52:49):
The Good Guy. Oh yeah, around time tell us how
it is Good Guy.

Speaker 4 (52:53):
In the thirty seven years as the Penguins play by
play man, we saw bets of the week as well,
and to get those in between those two interviews, I'll
be good.

Speaker 3 (53:01):
We'll see what we've got.

Speaker 4 (53:03):
Lots to get into with the postseason, the NBA Wolves
going out to the Bay Area Pacers and Calves and
Night Pacers are getting five points tonight at home.

Speaker 3 (53:11):
Sam's doing like a seven leg Pacers parlay today. That's
what's happening. Rebounds, man, you know those guys combined all
the rebounds.

Speaker 7 (53:20):
The odds came out and the Pacers are favored to
win this series, but the Calves are still They're five
and a half point favorite, but the Calves are still
have your favorites.

Speaker 1 (53:28):
To win the title. So I don't know how that works.

Speaker 4 (53:31):
To ask Vegas, I don't know what are you gonna do?
I guess this is weird. That doesn't make any sense.

Speaker 7 (53:36):
Boston still second to win the title two after Okay,
seem still the favorite.

Speaker 3 (53:40):
Number one, Okay, he's the favorite.

Speaker 4 (53:42):
Okay after see you got a number two though, yes,
and then Boston after that, and then Boston.

Speaker 3 (53:46):
Yeah, what's going on?

Speaker 1 (53:47):
No one's believing in these teams.

Speaker 3 (53:49):
Guys, get it on your Pacers championship, then you could
get great money.

Speaker 4 (53:54):
Made me have a future tonight, can I get a future?
We'll do some bets. The Waacers Wolves were going to
a game. Oh, totally totally pulling some funding for it.
It's gonna be a lot of fun. Here we go,
Hour number two around the corner. Tyler Oaks Bison Baseball
joins us.

I hope it was a great morning. Big thanks to
Derek Lang coming on first hour. Great ta Langer on

the scores two to two. We're gonna eat a rubber match.
We're gonna need a fifth guest, best of five. Had

(01:02:28):
somebody else that was on our side, we uh, we
had do.

Speaker 3 (01:02:32):
We not ask Easton?

Speaker 4 (01:02:34):
We had somebody who we forgot to ask. Oh, it
was coach h It was Randy. It was Randy Hedberg
on Monday. We had him on Monday and we didn't
get a get his opinion. Were two lockdown on the Celtics.

Speaker 3 (01:02:46):
Yeah, after the fact, he's more locked in on that
than the Celtics are basketball big time man. Thanks two down,
oh two. Gotta gotta foul some off here for the Celtics.

Speaker 19 (01:02:57):
This is it.

Speaker 4 (01:02:59):
Yeah, we do need to get a fifth vote on
the the all yellow Tonight Celtics names.

Speaker 5 (01:03:05):
Yes, it is.

Speaker 4 (01:03:06):
I think it's Pacers Calves first and then Nick Celtic
is a doubleheader on ESPN.

Speaker 1 (01:03:12):
Get in price at the Garden is like almost nine
hundred dollars.

Speaker 3 (01:03:15):
They're believing, man, they're believing standing only probably, I.

Speaker 7 (01:03:20):
Feel like, I mean, I feel like that's that crowd
is not gonna be as good though, honestly, because they're
gonna get a bunch of celebrities in there.

Speaker 1 (01:03:26):
They don't really like to cheer as I think you don't.

Speaker 3 (01:03:28):
Think and magic man, They're they're gonna be ready be
a lot of celebrities, but also be plenty of just
a rabbit fits.

Speaker 1 (01:03:34):
That's fair, that's fair.

Speaker 4 (01:03:35):
You know, New York some of the celebrities, I mean, Spikey,
Spike Lee was was fired up. I think he was
tweeting about Pope Leo, the new Pope, first ever American Pope.

Speaker 3 (01:03:46):
Yes, We had that at the end of the show.
That was awesome.

Speaker 4 (01:03:49):
But he was tweeting about the Pope being a Villanova
crad and with all the Villanova knicks that you have,
Jalen Brunston, Josh Harden and we're destined to get this tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (01:04:00):
Mmm.

Speaker 3 (01:04:01):
Oh it is tomorrow. That would make sense. God. Saturday
Cleveland and the Pacers Calves Pacers at six thirty five
and then Nuggets Thunder at nine to oh five tonight,
hm late one, mm hmmm are we staying up late?
Wolves Warriors Saturday seven thirty five, probably gonna end up
being like seven forty five, but it's before eight. Mm hmm.

(01:04:23):
I will take that on Saturday night, sleep it into
the next morning. We're good to go. Celtics are five
and a half point favorites in that game tomorrow tonight.
We've got Pacers or plus five, so they're still taking
the Calves in this game. Five points feels like a lot.

Speaker 4 (01:04:43):
Do we hear anything on the Calves injury scenario? Do
they have Garland back ian or can you get all
that real quick mobile is he going to play? That's
huge because if they're available, they they would be I
think a slight favorite. I think with it being an indie,
that's a different beast. I think that's gonna be just
as rocket like we've talked about. It's gonna be a
hornet's nest in there.

Speaker 1 (01:05:03):
CARLN. Mobley and DeAndre Hunter will quote unquote try and play.

Speaker 3 (01:05:07):
Oh wow, I love it. Try and Oh they're gonna
try and play. We're down too. Oh, they're just gonna try.

Speaker 7 (01:05:13):
If they're up to Like, I wonder if they'd be sitting.
I wonder one of those things, you know, like back.

Speaker 3 (01:05:18):
Two, Oh, they'd be sitting, but down by two. I mean,
you gotta win this game. So Nuggets are five and
a half point underdogs at home against okayc Tonight too
interesting ones what a home team's underdogs?

Speaker 4 (01:05:32):
A lot of potential plays for bets of the week.
Could have those coming up in between. Our next two
guests on the Rick Electric Daily Guests lineup again. Two
guys here the second hour to round out your week.
Bob Hannon, Youngstown State play by play man. We'll talk
to Missouri Valley football with him at twelve thirty but
now here at noon. To start our second hour, let's
go to the Brady Martins hotline talk some Bison baseball,

(01:05:53):
as we do every Friday, he joins us. Now it's
Tyler Oaks, NDSU had baseball coach. Coach, we appreciate you
taking the time. How are you and how are things
A couple of days after the Red Hawks exhibition going
down to the Twin Cities and getting ready for a
big one this weekend against Saint Thomas.

Speaker 17 (01:06:11):
Thanks for having me on and it was good.

Speaker 30 (01:06:14):
It's a nice short trip, especially compared to some of
the other trips that we have to take on the bus,
so you know, it was an easy trip last day
evening and got checked in the hotel and kind of
gearing up for this weekend and going back to Wednesday,
it was I thought it was a really cool environment
for us to play in, and there was a buzzer

(01:06:35):
around the stadium, and it's people there and obviously great
weather and so hopefully I've been talking with a lot
of people and the reviews have been extremely positive. Of
trying to do that thing on a honey yearly basis
with the Red Hawks, I.

Speaker 4 (01:06:48):
Think we're right there with your coach. It was a
tremendous atmosphere. I almost had two thousand people out there
on a weeknight to capture a little bit of the
essence of baseball. Felt like a summertime night out there
with the Bison taking on the RedHawks. Just afterwards, reflecting
with the team, how are the guys, you know going
up against older players? I mean the starter they threw

(01:07:09):
out was thirty years old. They're playing with the wood bats,
they're producing runs, and by the end there, the bullpen
was was hanging up a lot of zeros. Just what
were your takeaways for what you can grab from that
game and take into this weekend.

Speaker 30 (01:07:21):
Yeah, I think it's just another opportunity for us to
play high level competition and guys that have obviously played
collegiately at high level or even professional base But I
think Dylan Thomas has been in the big leagues a
couple of different stints, and so it's cool. It's a
cool opportunity for our guys to go up against that
and continue to challenge ourselves to continue to get better

(01:07:44):
and see some of the best of the best. And
I thought it was it was kind of special to,
you know, looking out there and then all of a sudden,
RedHawks players are talking with our guys while they're at
second base, around the base path and stuff like that too,
and having some of those interactions. I thought I was
really really cool and I just thought it was a
great night overall for you know, baseball and Fargo and

(01:08:06):
showcasing to two local teams. I think that do it
the right way. And you know, I think that's the
biggest takeaway. It's just given the community and opportunity to
come out and support both our teams and playing good
baseball and having a.

Speaker 3 (01:08:20):
Fun night with us that way, I kind of said,
it felt like almost a passion of a torch, like
you guys are coming towards the end of your regular season.
They're just about to get going or getting going here
actually today, and it did feel like a little bit
of a passion of the torch of the summer. And
that was a I thought it was a great event.
I think me and Sam are in agreement on that
one right there with you that it was a great event.
Would love to do it again. Is there anything you'd
like to add to it or do differently if it

(01:08:42):
happens again.

Speaker 17 (01:08:43):
Oh, I might need some time to think on that one. Yeah.

Speaker 30 (01:08:47):
I thought if mother nature can cooperate like that, we
take that every single year for sure, But I just
thought it was great to get out and play again,
especially at home, you know, not have to travel at all.

Speaker 17 (01:09:00):
And again having kind of that buzz.

Speaker 30 (01:09:02):
In the stadium that Newman was was great to see
as well. And hopefully you know, can bring out the
fans that maybe specifically only go to RedHawks games, or
bring Ndy a few fans to get out to some
RedHawks games too, and just show that there's more opportunities
to see baseball as Florida as well.

Speaker 3 (01:09:20):
I don't know if there's anything that could help Blake
tim and see the ball better than he is right now,
but I mean, a big hit there in the ninth
for you against the RedHawks to bring it to a
one run game, and then you know, tying runs on third,
he's standing on second representing that go ahead run. So
a great game for him. But even a guy like
Tate Martin, I mean, he gets two doubles in that game,
and he hasn't seen a lot of you know, at
bats because of some injuries and other things here throughout

(01:09:41):
the last couple of weeks. How much kind of game
might that may be help a Tate Martin some of
the other guys that had some good games and maybe
even give you some confidence to throw a guy out
there this week and against the Tommies.

Speaker 30 (01:09:51):
Yeah, you know, we we'll need everyone in anyone, especially
hear down the stretch run and for Blake to keep
doing what he's been doing has been all. It has
been fun to watch. I know, we've talked about it
link with how he works, the type of kit he
is and the amount of time that he puts into
his craft too, and so it's great to see him
having success. And then you know, a guy like Tate

(01:10:12):
is he's still a young kid that we have high
expectations for and he's had some injury issues that he's
been battling and so we can't be we can't play
him in the field, and DH is pretty much the
only spot that he can play right now. So getting
him come at back and get him going a little
bit can be crucial here down the stretcher unto to
kind of create some different matchups within our lineup against

(01:10:34):
different pitchers and lengthen and out our lineup a little
bit too.

Speaker 4 (01:10:38):
Talking with Bison baseball head coach Tyler Oaks, NDSU has
Saint Thomas in a three game series on the road. Coach,
what's the status of this group health wise coming into
the weekend. It was good to see having Gustafson come
back and get back in the lineup on Wednesday night. Uh,
no that obviously we've been missing Dante and Parker as well.
Where are you guys at as far as available for

(01:11:00):
the weekend.

Speaker 30 (01:11:01):
Yeah, like you said, it was great to get Gustuston
back out there, and you know he'll he'll be ready
to go this weekend again, so he'll get out there
for one of the games for sure, just so we
don't have to keep running. Gordon's kind of in the
ground a little bit catching every single game, and I
think he adds another element to our our offense as well,

(01:11:22):
being a left handed hitter and can create some matchup
problems that way too, So it was great to get
him back. And then Dante won't be good this weekend,
so we'll be without him, so more opportuase for guys
to continue to step up like Timmins and Tate Martin
like we talked about. And then we're hoping to hoping
to get Kyle Loll back in the midst he's with

(01:11:44):
us this weekend and so trying to find maybe some
opportunities that he can get it back out there and
get a steet weight again with the Matt Baths. Maybe
start at the DH spot one of the games. We'll
kind of see from there. But I know he's been
working his tail off and three have process and chumping
the bit to get back out there with his teammates.
And so we're turning in the right direction with that,

(01:12:05):
and so I think the big thing for us is
just continuing to you know, have.

Speaker 17 (01:12:09):
The people available that we have available.

Speaker 30 (01:12:11):
And continue to go out and try to play good
baseball and know that guys are going.

Speaker 3 (01:12:15):
To be ready to go when their name Yea and
Tyler Oaks are with the said coach, Bison Baseball. Three
games set down in Saint Paul against Saint Thomas this weekend.
You guys took two out of three from Saint Thomas
up here about a month or so ago. They took
the first game, you guys got the next two. I
knowing they're gonna want a little bit of revenge in
the top team in the conference right now, but as
a conference standings that have really gotten tight with Omaha

(01:12:36):
right behind you, guys, still a good chance of of
you potentially catching oh are you and getting that number
one seed for the tournament. How do you view this
weekend in these last couple of weeks with how tight
everything has gotten.

Speaker 30 (01:12:47):
Yeah, it's it's been a crazy, you know year in
the Stemmate League with everything is so tight and game
per game, you just got to go out and play
good baseball or if you're gonna end up losing games.

Speaker 17 (01:12:57):
And I think that's a credit to the league.

Speaker 30 (01:13:00):
And the coaches that we have in this league do
of continuing to build up their program. And you know,
for us, it's this week will be challenging obviously, a
team that's in first place right now and chomping at
the bit to try to win a regular season title.
And uh, this is their last home series as well,
so with them having I think double digit seniors for sure,

(01:13:20):
kind of an experienced group. Uh, this is their last
chance to play at home. I'm sure we'll get their
best effort and then you know, we'll have to continue
to match that too and make sure that we're ready
to go and put ourselves in the best position possible
here going forward. Like you said, anything is possible. Right now,
you have a good weekend, this weekend, you're right back
in the mix for the one seed for the conference tournament.

(01:13:41):
You have a bad weekend, you're you're right back in
that mix of just trying to battle the for positioning
in the conference tournament too. And so it's a day
in and day out process that we're just trying to
take one game at a time. I know it sounds cliche,
but that's literally all we can do right now, especially
in our league with how tight it is. You just
got to bring it that day and see what you
can do and go.

Speaker 3 (01:14:00):
Coach.

Speaker 4 (01:14:01):
I got to ask you about Jake Schaffner, and it's
interesting when we have our visit, like sometimes you might
not come up that much because you just know what
you're gonna get, right. He's been tremendous over these last
two years at shortstop for you. But I've got him
down for sixteen for his last twenty nine. That's five
point fifty one over his last six games, multi hit
games in all six of those games. He's reached base

(01:14:21):
safely in his last nine. I mean, last weekend gets
oh are you going back to the series in Brookings.
It just it amazes me how well he's able to
just generate hits. I mean, he's almost hitting four hundred
for the year.

Speaker 3 (01:14:36):
What have you seen for him.

Speaker 4 (01:14:38):
Specifically in this last three week stretch that he's been
able to kind of crank it up and just year
one to year two with his approach that's allowed him
to be as consistent as can be in the leadoff spot.

Speaker 30 (01:14:49):
You know, I think it just comes down to the
consistency part of it and his ability to have extremely
talented back to ball skills. He doesn't strike out a ton,
He works good long at bats. People try to get
him out different ways, and he files off pitches or
spoils pitches and then hit the mistake. And he's able
to do some things that other people can't do in

(01:15:09):
terms of handling the bad and he does it.

Speaker 17 (01:15:12):
He goes about it kind of in a quiet manner.

Speaker 14 (01:15:13):
You know.

Speaker 30 (01:15:14):
He's not a guy that will hit a ton of
doubles or home runs. But you look in the box
score and all of a sudden, he has three or
four hits each day. And that's whether it's the line
drivel of a short stuff that or a couple of
bunt base hits. Like he's just so effective and finding
ways to get on base and kind of setting the
tones for our offense. And I just think it goes
back to him not striking out and putting balls in

(01:15:35):
play and having the ability to really be a contact hitter.
That just I'm sure drives opposing coaches crazy in the
dugout because you're trying to get him out every which way,
and he finds ways to continue to beat him. And
then once he's on the base toss too, he can
cause some havoc on there too. So it's great to
have him at the top of the order. He's kind of,

(01:15:56):
you know, for as good as his freshman year was,
he definitely has taken that xt step as a sophomore too.
And for me, as he's put himself in that conference
player of the Year type running.

Speaker 17 (01:16:06):
In my opinion, I love it.

Speaker 4 (01:16:07):
I think it's well deserved for sure. Tyler oaks here
with us on the Brady Martch Hotline. Last one for me,
Coach Nolan Johnson, super impressive last Friday. Can you just
take us through how you evaluated that started and what
clicked for him and how he can carry it over.

Speaker 17 (01:16:22):
Yeah, he's just competes, you know.

Speaker 30 (01:16:24):
He goes up and competes and and doesn't beat himself
too often. He doesn't walk and hit people, and is
effective of throwing three pitches in and around the zone
then keep his hitters off balanced that way. And when
you're a left handed pitcher and you can do those
sort of things, there's a lot of success to be headed.
He's seen that success up in this year, and another

(01:16:46):
guy that I think he finishes the last two weeks
up here of the regular season, has definitely put himself
in that Conference Pitcher of the year type conversation.

Speaker 17 (01:16:57):
You know.

Speaker 30 (01:16:58):
For for us to have a guy like that that
and set the tone on the first day of a
weekend set is huge, especially with how deep he's been
going into games and he's been bouncing back grade and
putting in the work throughout the week too to make
sure that he's at his best. And so I know
he's a he's a guy that a lot of people
don't want to face, and he makes a difficult on
hitters by mixing matching like we talked about, And for me,

(01:17:21):
it's just extremely rewarding to see him have the success
he's head, especially after last year being cut short with
injury and him working his stille off this offseason.

Speaker 17 (01:17:32):
In the summer. To put himself in this position is
pretty cool to.

Speaker 5 (01:17:35):
Watch, No doubt.

Speaker 4 (01:17:36):
Man, He'll be back back in his home area here

luck this weekend we'll be rooting here in Fargo.

we can keep the train rolling. Ian Longton, you're up first.

Speaker 17 (01:22:58):
My man?

Speaker 3 (01:22:59):
What you got?

Speaker 7 (01:23:00):
Okay, I A'm gonna go to tomorrow night. I'm gonna
go to Wolves Warriors here. First off, give me the
Wolves minus five. I feel like that's a.

Speaker 1 (01:23:07):
Pretty good number.

Speaker 7 (01:23:08):
I just I text you guys last night in a
group chat. I don't think the Warriors have the horses
on offense to do it. You got quintin Post getting minutes.
You got Spencer double digit minutes.

Speaker 3 (01:23:17):
Yeah, three minutes. I never came back.

Speaker 7 (01:23:19):
He started, he started, He's like the Jackson Hayes of
the started.

Speaker 3 (01:23:23):
His line was no points, no rebounds, no fouls, no turnovers,
no assists.

Speaker 4 (01:23:28):
It's that minus thirteen on the plus minus you did
the old Tony Snell. Yeah, Tony Stell is gonna say,
who is that guy who came in and played twenty
minutes and no stats?

Speaker 3 (01:23:38):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:23:38):
What a rotation.

Speaker 7 (01:23:39):
I'm looking at it here. The Warriors played like fourteen,
like fifteen guys last night, So I.

Speaker 3 (01:23:43):
Who you're gonna play a little bit.

Speaker 1 (01:23:44):
I'm I'm guessing they're gonna shorten up the rotation a
little bit.

Speaker 3 (01:23:46):
But without all year and Steve Kurz kept it to
like eleven or twelve.

Speaker 7 (01:23:50):
Yeah, that's true. But without Steph Curry, I guess it
makes sense. You need to get Jimmy be you got
to get Draymonds and breaks there. But I do like
the Wolves minus five and I'm gonna parlay that, parlay
that with Anthony Edwards at least six assists. The Timberwolves
record the last couple of years when Anthony has eight
or more assists twenty two and five, So it's a
pretty good stat indicator and how the offense is doing,

(01:24:11):
how the team is playing.

Speaker 1 (01:24:12):
So give me Anthony Edwards six plus assists.

Speaker 7 (01:24:16):
Parlay that Timberwolves minus five plus two sixty odds ten
bucks will pay out thirty six dollars.

Speaker 3 (01:24:22):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (01:24:22):
Uh the six assists is it's a little tricky. I
think that is a little higher than than the average covering.
I think that's fine, but uh, yeah, that that you're
risking it on the parlay there.

Speaker 7 (01:24:35):
Ian I like he doesn't always need to be a
scorer to affect the game great, and I think I
think him being the facilitator in this series.

Speaker 4 (01:24:44):
I think that's just fine, Okay, not a bad play.
We think Andy, I think he's got a chance. I
think he's got a chance to uh to pop off.
And I thought the big game was coming last night.
Obviously had the ankle issue.

Speaker 3 (01:24:56):
He's a finisher around the ram.

Speaker 7 (01:24:58):
Yeah, yeah, he said that in his post game he said, now,
how can I start working on my my finishing now?

Speaker 1 (01:25:02):
I was working on my my shot off season.

Speaker 3 (01:25:04):
Van Gundy made a good point. There's a lot of
times and Ants talked about this. He learned this in
at Georgia and College. Like he goes up, he want
to scream a little bit. You hear that a lot.
And he was Cream was the coach at the time
at Georgia yea, and kind of taught him that. And
he's got some fowls. He he's complaining about fowls way
too much for me in this series. And Van Gundy

(01:25:26):
made the point I agree with him. These are things
where like those aren't postseason fouls that you're barely getting
touched at if at all, on most of these ones.
So you can't be like hunting for the foul and
watching the fouls to the point where you're missing layups
at the tough contested LAS with layups the NBA players
should be making, especially players you. Okay, Wolves, parlave for

(01:25:47):
Ian Andy, you're up next. I'm gonna bring fair enough.

Speaker 1 (01:25:51):
I'm gonna go dam setting himself up over there.

Speaker 3 (01:25:53):
Yeah, I'm going back to the well has been running
dryer than dry for me. But I'm going back to
Major league baseball. Okay, I'll go back some Major League
base We'll stay away from the NBA stuff I can watch.
It's just stress free. I'm gonna go to a couple
of our teams here. Actually, since Ian decided to go
on the Wolves, I'll go on a Minnesota team here
as well. We won't go for the win. Though the
Twins have one five straight. We said they are actually

(01:26:15):
hosting the San Francisco Giants. And since you just learned
the Tim Paul's I get put off the first pitch.
Mm hm, I think it could be some runs scored
in this game between these two teams. The over under
is at nine. Give me the over. Yeah, highest scoring
baseball game tonight at target Field. Great gorgeous. Whether the
ball should be flying out with some warmer tempts as well,
plus the two guys on the mound. I got Chris

(01:26:36):
Paddock and Jordan Hicks, both of their eras north of
five and a half. So far. Bullpens are good, but
the starters aren't that great. And you look at the
last couple of weeks, the Twins or the Giants here first,
they scored fourteen runs two games ago. Nine before that
nine six or the Twins have been five seven, six,

(01:26:57):
five six, Like these teams are score want some runs
right now, a little bit, get them all there. I'll
go the over nine runs in the Giants Twins game
coming up. Parlay that with the Houston Astros to get
a win by over one and a half. Oh tonight
against your Cincinnati Rights. Oh dude, I think we'll come
out motivated. You might come up motivated, but you're also

(01:27:18):
coming out against Hunter Brown, who right now has been
as dominant as any pitcher in Major League Baseball. Take
me a little while to figure it out. Was a
young phenom early kind of up and down, struggling, but
this year he has been really, really tough to get
hits off of. He is pitching tonight for the Astros
and it's at home in Houston, we are.

Speaker 4 (01:27:36):
Who are we throwing Nick Martinez, a veteran kind of
the back end of the rotation.

Speaker 3 (01:27:41):
Fred's bullpen has been really bad.

Speaker 4 (01:27:43):
I think they'll be motivated after losing three or four
against Atlanta, another extra inning heartbreaker last night, went down
five to four and eleven. That's tough, But Hunter Brown
on the mound. I can't argue with that logic, risking
it for the biscuit of a little parlay, maybe a
little runs and some entertains night with a target field.
So h ten dollar beck to thirty eight seventy nine. Okay,

(01:28:05):
a couple parlays from Andy and Ian if you're interested.

Speaker 7 (01:28:08):
Put a dollar down on Royce Lewis over one homer
at plus five to seventy five second game back.

Speaker 1 (01:28:13):
It's kind of the thing he does.

Speaker 4 (01:28:15):
Yeah, early in season's great value. Way to dig it,
way to dig We'll put a buck down on it.

Speaker 3 (01:28:19):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (01:28:20):
So I was digging earlier, and I was telling you
guys at the break, I feel great about this one.
I'm ready to roll. Andy, you just said that you
don't want to bet on the NBA. You want to
just kick back and relax and watch. I respect that.
I'm gonna double a triple down. And we haven't had
a futures bet on the insiders since your Olympics USA

(01:28:40):
Women's basketball.

Speaker 3 (01:28:42):
That was last summer. We're coming up on a calendar year.
It hit, it hit.

Speaker 4 (01:28:46):
We're due for another I'm ready Eastern Conference champion.

Speaker 3 (01:28:52):
In the NBA playoffs.

Speaker 4 (01:28:53):
You can get the Indiana Pacers right now at plus
three ninety odds. That's actually the fourth longest odds out
of the four team still standing. Oh, the Celtics, like
we were talking about Ian plus one forty, still the
favorite despite down two zero to the Knicks.

Speaker 3 (01:29:10):
Knicks next up at plus three forty.

Speaker 4 (01:29:12):
Calvs still have better odds than the Pacers even at
plus three sixty. But what's gonna happen with their key
guys Darius Garland, A Hunter and Evan Bobley. They're gonna
try and play the Pacer getting five tonight at home
and yet plus three ninety odds. All they gotta do
is win six more games. I'll take the two coming

(01:29:33):
up at home in Indy, and then whoever it is,
whether it's Boston or the Knicks, maybe they beat each
other up for a longer series. Pacers showed they beat
They could beat the Knicks last year, and they were
in it against Boston even though getting swept.

Speaker 3 (01:29:46):
This team has a chip on his shoulder.

Speaker 4 (01:29:47):
I am believing in something here on a Friday, Fellas
put down ten and that gives you forty nine dollars.
That's tremendous value. I'm gonna put a future play in
my first personal play Pacers Eastern Conference champs. Hard is
on the line here. I hope I don't get hurt.
I'm putting it out. Do they deal with a lead?

(01:30:07):
How do they do with expectations? What the Wolves have
had issues with? For a young team, of young team,
but not the first time. Not a young head coach either,
that's true, not a young coach. Just be ready tonight,
let's go little heart play right there, and if we
can get this win, I mean those I put this
in now because if Indiana wins tonight, you're up three

(01:30:28):
to zero. Those odds are gonna skyrocket even further. It's
gotta win six games. This team's like fifteen. They went
in tease. Tyree Halliburton got he got off to a
really slow start. Ever since he's gotten back on track,
and we know he just is coming off. The big
winner was reprimanded a little bit for his celebration. I saw,
as well, if you're really a believer, you should have
got in after game on one.

Speaker 3 (01:30:50):
Work different then too, Well, I'm a believer after what
I saw on Tuesday night.

Speaker 1 (01:30:56):
Hey, if you make that shot, you can do that?

Speaker 3 (01:30:57):
So yes, you can, you go go I said that
Tug and cheeks.

Speaker 4 (01:31:01):
So plus three ninety Pacers Eastern Conference future. We're not
gonna know until a couple more weeks, but you can

Rice Companies a Butler builder. Bob Hannon with us on

(01:37:39):
the Brady Marts Hotline Youngstown State play by play voice
doing a little spring preview around the Missouri Valley. Bob,
we appreciate you joining us. How are you and how
is everything spring for Youngstown State. Good to be talking
some ball as we headed into the summer.

Speaker 5 (01:37:55):
Guys, I love it and may talking football only in
Youngstown and Pargo. That's try fall year wrapped out here
in ix time. We were hoping to get about a
ten year iatus from playing North Dakota State. We like
coming to Fargo. We're treated well and it's one of
our favorite trips. But we know how good they are.
You know, interesting you talk about I was the spring.
You know, we're coming off a four and eight year

(01:38:16):
previous season seven and five. After the seven and five season,
we were decimated in the portal. We lost ten starters defensively,
we thought we were really going to be good on defense.
We were young. Good news this year we kept just
about everybody. We really didn't lose anyone, and we had
a couple of players like left tackles Decimal League, who
was getting some looks from some of the Big ten schools.

(01:38:37):
Wide receiver Max tom Zach had a really good offer
from Northwestern to go back home to his home state
of Illinois, but everybody decided to stay, which I think
is really good news. Just an overall feeling after spring.
I think we'll be really good offensively. Max tom Zach,
I mentioned him, a wide receiver. We're first team All Conference.
Offensive line should be good. We've added a wide receiver

(01:38:58):
who I think will be dynamick. Kylon Wilson comes from
a powerhouse Division two, slippery rock, small, fast, Oll return kicks,
Oll return punts. So the early feal is we're going
to score and we're going to put up points. The
concern probably on defense. Defensive line just not big enough
right now or strong enough. And I think coach Phillips

(01:39:21):
is still looking and hopes by August that a couple
other defensive linemen. But I just think that right now
defensively would be a problem against the top team and
the conference.

Speaker 3 (01:39:33):
Thanks for the time here, Bob, appreciate you joining us
and great to have you back on. And obviously, like
you said, we're talking football all year round in these
parts of the country. For Youngstown State, you're just saying,
right there, man, I'm going to score a lot of points.
The trouble might be on the defensive side. I always
think of the Youngstown games as man, those were just
slugfests and defense and your defensive line getting after the
Bison quarterback and all those matchups before. As it seemed

(01:39:56):
to kind of over these last few years, taking a
little bit of a flip. Are you going back the
opposite direction anytime soon?

Speaker 17 (01:40:03):
It is, and that's not the.

Speaker 5 (01:40:04):
Way we want to play, you know. Even going back
to prior to coach Phillips, Coach Bellini's teams are always
really good defensively, sound defensively and able to compete on
that side of the ball for the most part, so
it's not the way we want to play. I think
we know we need to get better defensively. They're trying
to address it, they just haven't gotten there. And another example,

(01:40:26):
Mike well is going to be a junior linebacker. We
thought Mike Wells would have a breakout season as a sophomore.
He's six three, two fifty, he can run, he can tackle.
He just didn't have a good year and by midseason
he was benched. We're hoping this being his junior year,
will be better. So there's some pieces on defense. I
think linebackers will be good. Carson Marshall's second year transfer

(01:40:48):
from Iowa State looks a lot better a second year
in the program. Preston's in deer, lettuce and tackles, but
it's that defensive front that's been an issue. We just
haven't been able to get good enough players. Our team
that went to the championship, now it's almost a decade ago.
Derek Rivers and Avery Moss were two defensive ends that
spent time in the NFL. So you better be good

(01:41:09):
upfront defensively against the North Dakota State and South Dakota
State and Illinois State looks like they're going to be
really good. So it's a formula that I don't think
we're comfortable with having to score a lot of points,
but I think it's one we're going to have to
live with this year.

Speaker 4 (01:41:23):
Talking with Bob Hannon, played by play man for the
Youngstown State Penguins, I'm really intrigued, Bob about this offense.
I enjoyed watching both brountguard last year on a couple
of the crossover games, and we'd have an opponent that
you guys would played the previous week. He can get
loose and I mean you look at his numbers. He
almost goes for a thousand yards as your quarterback, sixteen touchdowns,

(01:41:44):
nine hundred and ninety eight yards. I'm sure developing as
a passer too. And you mentioned a new offensive coordinator
for this year with Mike Yersich coming in who used
to be at Penn State. Penn State's offensive coordinator when
they had Sean Clifford at QB and and right before
Drew Aller kind of took over and they went to
a college Football Playoff semi final. So a two parter

(01:42:06):
for you, Bou Broun guard, Where do you see him
in his development at quarterback? And Mike eersit's coming in
to be your play caller. How does he tailor this
thing to what you have there at the quarterback position?

Speaker 5 (01:42:18):
Well, good questions, guys. I think we needed a change
an offensive four nator. It's hard. Toroy Rothenbler was here
from day one with coach Phillips. But we just I
think everybody here felt something had to happen, and it
did so. As far as bo bron guard right runner,
you look at him and he doesn't look like he
has the speed that he has, and I think it
was so deceptive a year ago. Tremendous work ethic. His

(01:42:41):
dad led us to two national championships as a quarterback
in the nineteen ninety So he's always wanted to be
a Penguin, wanted to be here. Mike Grsich comes in.
You mentioned in State. Prior to that, he was justin
Field's passing game four nator at Ohio State, spent time
at Oklahoma State. You may ask the question, what's he
doing at Youngstown State? Then? Well, offense date. So Mike
Heristic is trying to revive his career. What he's done.

(01:43:04):
Is he's got Bo on the outside the perimeter role,
like moving the pocket much more than we did in
the past. I think we'll have much more play action.
There'll be much more getting Bo out of the pocket. Run.
Guard's not at his best when he's that drop back passer.
He needs to be on the move, so I think
you'll see some change there. I think we've got good
running backs and good receivers. I think really good receivers.

(01:43:26):
So I think we'll throw the football quite a bit.
So I think your sage has brought a lot. The
feeling has been good among I think those inside the
program that the offense will be much more suited to
brun Guard's talent. And I think by the time broun
Guard's done, he has two more years, he'll have a
lot of the records here. I just think he's going
to keep piling up the records, especially with us having

(01:43:47):
to score points. I think we'll throw the ball a lot.
So I like Bo. I just think that he has
everything you need, all the intangibles. He's not six to four,
he's probably more like five to eleven, which is the
reason he's Youngstown State and not at a bigger scoll,
but I really like what he's done, and I like
what our new coordinator's done with our offense.

Speaker 3 (01:44:07):
I think it's a really good good for you guys
at offensive coordinator. Like you said, trying to revitalize some things,
but definitely as coaching ties to that upper level and
experience with some really good talented quarterbacks, and I think
you got one there as well in brunt guard. I
know you talked about the defensive side already a little bit,
but can you touch on maybe just a few of
the key areas they were the added a person, maybe
a player left, and the areas are going to try

(01:44:28):
and build up if they can still maybe get some
players from the portal here over these next couple of
months before we get into you know, fall camp and everything.

Speaker 5 (01:44:35):
Yeah, I think we're better on the back end, and
our corners have probably been not as good as we need.
But you know how it goes. If you're not getting pressure,
that secondary is going to be under a lot of
the rest and then if you start Blot's sing and
you don't get home, which happened in the game against
Southern Illinois, you can be exposed. But I think in
the secondary some of the experience Isaiah Crozier, DJ Harris,
Isaiah Hackett. We brought in a couple of new faces

(01:44:57):
in the secondary, Jeremiah Robinson's transfer. He's a senior. I
think there's probably ten new faces in that secondary competing
with some experience, so I do think we'll be really good.
On the back end. We have a red shirt freshman
from just across the state line Barrel High School, Brandon Chambers,
that they believe will probably start a cornerback, so the

(01:45:18):
secondary will be better. The most experienced groups linebacker withan deer.
I mentioned Carston Marshall and Mike Wells, so those guys
will be good. It's at D line. Ebanie Curry six
five two fifty sophomore from the Columbus area has come
into the program they believe will help and I Coach

(01:45:38):
Phillips I had lunch with him earlier this week and
he's convinced that he'll still be able to get a
couple guys between now in September that can help us.
So overall, we're better defensively, but we just haven't addressed
up front. The two areas where he felt he needed
to get better was D line and corner and coach
Phillips is confident that the cornerbacks will be much better

(01:45:58):
than they were a year ago.

Speaker 4 (01:46:00):
Bob Hannon, Youngstown State broadcaster, here with us on the
Brady March Hotline. Earlier this week, Bob, the Missouri Valley
Football Conference came out with some news. One new commissioner,
Jeff Jackson, who's the Missouri Valley Conference commissioner, is going
to take the torch from Patti Viverito and he'll handle
the Valley football as well. And to this partnership with

(01:46:21):
the Summit League, which, of course North Dakota State the
other Dakota schools are part of the Summit League on
a full time basis for the rest of their sports,
and then the rest of the schools are in the
Missouri Valley Conference, with the exception of your Penguins being
in the horizon for all the other sports. What did
you make of that update with the partnership between the

(01:46:41):
Valley and the Summit for football, and just how do
you see it from the Youngstown State point of view?

Speaker 5 (01:46:48):
Yeah, we talk about that a lot here. So from
a competitive standpoint, we love playing in the Missouri Valley Conference.
It's so good you know, I looked at a preseason
poll yesterday at at North Dakota State one, South Dakota three,
South Dakota State four, and I was a little bit
surprised to Illinois State six. I think it was Craig
Hayley's pull. So that's what we we face. So we

(01:47:08):
love the competition. Our challenge is we are the most
eastern school. It's very expensive for us to play in
the Missouri Valley. The only trip we bust is Indiana
State and that's an eight and a half hour bus
ride by the time we stopped for a lot. So
it's expensive to charter to all these all these games
that we play, and we don't have a geographic rival

(01:47:31):
unlike the Dakotas. We don't have that Acron or Kent
State that's in our backyard in them in American Conference,
So as STS and FBS continues to evolve, I'm not
sure where we fit again. I know there's concerns that
that long term is the Valley the best place for
us as the school. As the conference has grown, it's

(01:47:53):
not come each it's been more you know, out out
in your area. So I'm not sure what that means
for us with the for where we go or where
we end up. There was a time when we were
close to joining the Mid American Conference. We would probably
have to double our athletic budget. And those schools are accurrent,
Kent State, Ohio, you Ball State, all in our backyard.

(01:48:14):
We could bust on every road trip and save a
lot of money. But for now, we're happy to be
in the Valley. We like the competition, but I know
there's always conversations because all our other sports do play
in the Horizon League. So I mean, I like being
in the Valley. I mean, if we even sneak in
and go seven and five or an eight four, we're
probably going to want a playoff game. It might win

(01:48:35):
two because of the competition and how good the conference is.

Speaker 3 (01:48:40):
I just follow up on that a little bit more, Bob,
because I agree with you. You put Youngstown State on
a tough spot where everything seemingly is going further west
of you guys, and there's rumors out there maybe adding
a couple of schools in Utah or adding a couple
of schools that are in Texas as well, and obviously
that doesn't really do anything for you guys in terms
of reducing the travel if there's something like that were
to happen. I know youngstern sate rich tradition in football.

(01:49:01):
They love being in the value because, like you said,
it's a great competition. They want to compete against the
best and try and earn a spot like they did
in that championship almost a decade ago. If you do
add even more schools, will there be Texas you saw
something like that. Do you feel like there's a breaking
point for the Penguins in terms of finding a new home,
whether it be FCS or even going to FBS.

Speaker 5 (01:49:21):
I think so, And I really don't want to speak
for the athletic department, but I know that there's concern
about continuing the cost of travel and the expense, and
also not having that rival game. I know Coach Trussell
when he was here as our president. He's left as president.
Actually he's our lieutenant governor in the state of Ohio now,
he just felt that, you know, getting those You know

(01:49:42):
a lot of people around who have graduated from Mid
American Conference schools, so that adds to the rivalry. They
come to watch Ohio or Akron or Kent. So I
think there are serious conversations on where do we go
as a football program? Where do we go as a
complete athletic department. I think if you talk to the fans,
they would tell you we should be in the Mid
American Conference. Financially, we just start in a position to

(01:50:04):
do that right now.

Speaker 3 (01:50:05):
There's more that goes into that than just saying be
a part of a conference.

Speaker 5 (01:50:08):
Yeah, exactly, exactly. There's so much more involved. So I
think that if the conference continues to grow and adds
teams from Utah and Texas, there could be even more
serious conversations on where Youngstown State goes.

Speaker 3 (01:50:22):
Well.

Speaker 4 (01:50:22):
We appreciate you, sir, thank you for joining us. Looking
forward to actually being able to meet here in person.

we also know this weekend as what Father's Day weekend,
So shout out to all the moms and Bison Nation,

our moms do great work. Pretty cool story though, from
a great company. Low's doing something fun for Mother's Day,
and they're sending out flowers to mothers, not just any
kind of mothers. Mothers might be a little bit lonelier
this time of year because Mother's Day can be lonely
for some elulant moms that might be in retirement homes,
maybe don't have family around them, maybe don't have their

(01:54:34):
significant other anymore. And so Loe's just stepping up because
Mother's Day may feel lonelier than ever for some aging

That's well done by Lows. Happy Mother's Day to everybody

I have always tried to surround myself with people I

True when you were choosing your insurance game plan, which
is why I have the good neighbors of Bryan Kill
State Farm on my team. Ryan made funding the right
insurance plans so simple. I told him my priorities and
he gave me clear options so I could make an
educated decision without pressure or a hidden agenda. There are

Ryan Kill State Farm.
