Speaker 1 (00:00):
Decommitted since then and now you have these offers? Are
you waiting because you know how much work that you
put in and what this senior season will be and
you're expecting individuals you know, Okay, we gotta see what
Kendn Smith is gonna do this year. Is that a
part of the decommitting process and now kind of waiting
to see?

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Yeah, I definitely say I'm just trying to find the
right fit. Just waiting it out and not rushing is
a big thing, and just kind of taking my time
trying to see where I fit in and just find
a great program and coaching staff that I really.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
Just fit well with.

Speaker 4 (00:30):
Who do you lean on for that?

Speaker 5 (00:32):
Is it? Mom?

Speaker 4 (00:33):
Dad, coaches, friends, players who you may have played against,
you are already at the collegiate level. What's the process
like for you and who you're talking to to try
and get that feel?

Speaker 2 (00:45):
I definitely say my sister because she played two years
of college basketball at Central and so just being able
to get her insight and kind of see how she
can help me and relate to me and decide that
she already had for being a collegiate player.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
Yeah, I want I'm saying that one thing that with
the Smoothie King. They do.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
Man, they have real ingredients, and that's why we use
Smoothi King. That's why I go get these smoothies.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
On the regular.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
They got the real fruit that helps you refuel and
do the things necessary, you know, since to help that
workout process. Talk about what your process has looked like
this off season, because I saw you looked in great
shape when I saw you in August. But now the
season has come, so I know you've done more work
from August to now. What does that look like. What
is the eating regimen been, and what is the workout
regimen been that you and your teammates are put in.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
I'd say it's definitely a lot of hard work. My
teammates and I started working out at the ending of
the school year, and so we have lifted five days
a week up to our tryout season that was actually
this week, and so we would lift every day after
school and then just getting extra shots in and kind
of getting any reps we can in as a team
and individually, just to make sure that that for those

(01:54):
tryouts this week that we're ready and just behind anybody
else and can just get the ball rolling right away.

Speaker 4 (02:01):
Who inspires you. I mean, I'm sure you're a Pistons fan.
I'm going to assume that. I think that's fair considering
this team is a lot of fun to watch, and
I'm sure you're pretty excited about a w NBA team
coming back here to Detroit in twenty twenty nine. But overall,
where's the inspiration stem from?

Speaker 2 (02:18):
I'd say my dad really inspires me a lot. He's
a very hard worker, and I definitely have just always
looked up to him since I was younger. He played basketball,
and so just kind of helping and following him is.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
A big thing.

Speaker 4 (02:34):
How good do you think the Pistons can be this year?

Speaker 6 (02:37):
I think they can be pretty good.

Speaker 4 (02:40):
They're already doing pretty good. I want to hear you
say I think they can compete for a championship. That's
what I want to hear as somebody who is definitely
going to what do you like about the way they play?
I mean, as a basketball player yourself, you probably really
appreciate how certain teams spread the floor right, certain teams
you know, play defense, communicate. What are the things you

(03:00):
like most about it?

Speaker 2 (03:03):
I definitely think they just played hard. They play really
well together, and they've played a fast paced and pushed
the ball well, and I think that's something that not
all NBA teams do and so I think that they
did that pretty well.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
In the last couple of years, you know, with Kaitlin Clark,
Page Becker's players like that, the WNBA has had a boom.
You've seen more eyes on the sport. Does that go
for you, guys as well? Has the WNBA done enough
over the last four or five years or last two
it's kind of make you really dial in and pay
attention more and make you want to be a face
or make you want to be represented by the WNBA.

(03:37):
Has it done enough for you to really want to
dive into that.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
Yeah, I'd say it's definitely inspired me and many others
more just seeing the recognition that they're getting. And I
think it also gives us like more appreciation just for
the game and for what we're doing. And so I'd
say getting to see it everywhere and people actually noticing
the work that they're doing is super cool and definitely
something that is it taken for granted.

Speaker 4 (04:04):
All right, so help us out Besides basketball? Are you
are you a big Lions fan? Are you a Red
Wings fan?

Speaker 5 (04:09):
Where?

Speaker 4 (04:10):
Where does your where does your heart lie besides the
game that you play and love so much?

Speaker 2 (04:16):
I'd say I definitely enjoy watching football. It's something that
me and my dad gets to do together, and so
that's fun.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
But yeah, what now, when does the season open? Who
do you open up against? And are you prepared for
this season open?

Speaker 3 (04:37):
Oh, we might have got frozen. That's all right, Yeah,
we'll wait.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
For it to come back. Who they just give us
a beat once he comes back. But that's a good question.
You know that season hasn't started. I want to know
that what's that preparation like that first game? Because I
know when I was in high school, you know who
that first opponent is, just like any any less, sure
you know what that first opponent is going to be,
and you put in extra work for who that opponent
is going to be.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
I want to see what that looks like.

Speaker 4 (05:01):
Whoever, there are certain games, I think, on every schedule,
no matter what level you're playing, there are certain games
that everybody has highlighted or circled or you know, put
in bold or whatever. Okay, and obviously the first one
is always it, But then of course you have rivals,
and then you have certain teams that may have knocked
you off before, or certain teams that you may have

(05:23):
played really well against. She plays well against everybody, as
evident by her numbers. But I love the fact that,
you know, on Sundays she and her father sitting in
front of the television set and watching football. It's a
nice way to escape, you know, and it's probably a
really nice way for dad and daughter to you know,
to have that connection and have that type of tradition.

(05:44):
You know, we all have that with our parents. So
it's really good stuff.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
Now I one I'm saying, and she instantly went to,
you know, pop football, being pops watching on Sunday, So
there's definitely a good dial in for her. Definitely an
eager to get that question, because when you're averaging twenty
one point five as a junior, you know, you have
twenty one point five eight point six, like you're almost
a double double as a junior, that has to look
a lot better.

Speaker 3 (06:05):
And I'm telling you, when I saw her, the fam
looked nice.

Speaker 1 (06:08):
So I can only imagine the work that she, as
well as the Flint Powers group, has put in for
this high school season.

Speaker 4 (06:13):
She's going to she's already turning heads. You mentioned Central
Michigan originally committed there, that's where her sister played too,
and then she chose to, you know, de commit. So
I like that she's keeping her options open because she
hasn't been hasn't been able to find that that one
place that makes her completely comfortable. And let's hope she

(06:35):
finds it and hopes if she finds it somewhere close
to home.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
One. What I'm saying, I think she may be back
in the chat.

Speaker 1 (06:40):
So if she is there, she is, Let's let's try
to continue where we left off at first opponent.

Speaker 3 (06:46):
When is that game?

Speaker 1 (06:46):
And how have you guys been preparing for this particular opponent.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
Yeah, so we play against Midland and it's on the ninth.
We have a scrimmage that's before, but our tryouts actually
started this Wednesday, and so we've been doing two days
every day. So we practice at six a m. Before
school to seven thirty and then after strong through fifteen
to five thirty. So we've definitely just been trying to

(07:11):
get ahead of the game and just putting work together
as a team so that when that game comes we're ready.

Speaker 4 (07:17):
Kendall, help me with this because I used to call
Michigan basketball when Trey Burke was there, who was the
national Player of the Year when he was in high school,
he would shoot a thousand jumpers before school started. He
would get up early make sure he got that done.
When you used to watch certain players in the WNBA,
when I called the Shock, they said the same thing.

(07:39):
What is your routine like as you improve your commitment
and improve your your talents on the floor, and how
you go about making sure you're staying as sharp as
you can outside of just your usual practice with your team.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
Yeah, no, I definitely say for me, I obviously get
to work out in every day. Normally mine is five
hund shots with something else but an ethically shooting day.
Then it does range too a thousand shots, So it
kind of just depends on the day and what I'm
trying to work on. But yeah, that's definitely something reasonable
and that I do as well.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
Good for you, Ken, We can't We're super excited because
the Smoothie King twelve you guys will all be coming
back here in December. All twelve you guys will come
here and we'll have like a little setup, we'll have
a party.

Speaker 3 (08:22):
We got some Smoothie King merch. We'll give you the gifts.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
That we have for you guys, and MHS double A
approved so we can put that back on the book.
So excited for that. It will be a lot of fun.
But before we let you get out of here and
we appreciate your time. If you could go to any
concert currently, any concert, any artist, who would that artist
be and who are you taking to this concert?

Speaker 2 (08:47):
I'd say Brandon Lake because actually a Christian singer, and.

Speaker 4 (08:52):
I'd say my cousin, Christian singer.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
I love this.

Speaker 2 (08:58):
I definitely say my cousin. We went to a concert
from Tire Bryers a couple of weeks ago and we
had a lot of fun together, so I definitely say her.

Speaker 4 (09:05):
It's fantastic.

Speaker 3 (09:06):
Appreciate that.

Speaker 4 (09:07):
Hey, we wish a great success, but more importantly, we
wish your great health because you want to stay healthy
throughout this season. There is that proverbial target on your
back because of how good you are, but that was
the case last year and you handled it with great
pride and great resolve. We wish you the best so
far this season. We'll see it at the party brought
to you by Smoothie King and the Brailor Edward Show
a little bit later on Kendell, thanks for the time.

Speaker 3 (09:29):
Thank you, Ken, We appreciate you.

Speaker 1 (09:31):
We'll get all the information to you about the Smoothie
King twelve before the day.

Speaker 3 (09:35):
Comes up and keep kicking butt. Yeah, thank you, all right,
I see team.

Speaker 4 (09:39):
You love that. That's really cool. I love how you
You're able to interact with a lot of different people
at a lot of different age groups. That's got to be
a big deal for them. And you met her at
a at an event, and we'll have an event for her.

Speaker 3 (09:52):
So I was speaking of age group.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
Is kind of funny, like her being a younger individual
when I say younger season in high school. So I
reached out to her on her Instagram said hey, look, Ken,
do I told you.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
I would be in touch.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
We want to honor you the following week for the
Smoothie King High School. I had to make sure every
part of the text the DM all that, hey, look,
put your parents in this text, Put your parents in
this text. Make sure we're in this text together, man,
so you can see that it was legit. But she's
great energy and she's just a great spirit. That's what
I noticed when I met her in Grand Blank like,
the energy was really good. She was excited to raise money.

(10:23):
A lot of individuals were excited just to be there,
high schoolkids. I'm excited to be a part of their
Dusty May was there, Trey McKinney, they were fanning out
a little bit. They were happy to be on a
Saturday with all this going on. She was happy that
the money was going to a great cost. She was
excited that the seven thousand, Like she asked, where's the
money going to? Just like a question like that. I said,
you know what, there's something about you have a good.

Speaker 4 (10:44):
Spirit that's mature maturity. I mean more so than I
had in high school. I can promise you that there's
a really there's a really unique and different sports that's
taking place outside the United States, and I wonder for
the ever catch fire here when we come back, I'm
gonna get Braillan's thoughts on this. We've got video associated

(11:05):
with it. It is wild stuff, but it's something that
maybe a lot of people, especially in Detroit, may love.
You'll understand when you'll see it after we get this
from Smoothie King, Ben Johnson and Martin Jakes.

Speaker 3 (11:20):
Yeah, we see what time.

Speaker 1 (11:21):
It is a Smoothie King Man, we appreciate doing this
with the community. The impact that these young individuals have
and these high school student athletes. It's major, you know,
and this thing is taking on a life of its own.

Speaker 3 (11:31):
I think it's getting about of just the Southeast area
and mission.

Speaker 1 (11:35):
I think this thing is getting national hints, you know,
the cups and all the things that we're doing.

Speaker 3 (11:39):
But you know why, let's talk about it.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
The Athlete of the Week program especial to us here

Southeast Michigan high school athletes who are crushing it in
their sport and in the community.

one winner on the podcast.

Speaker 1 (11:55):
And at the end of the season, as you heard
me say, we will do the Smoothie King twelve.

We will get together and will Sports especially on air.

but also pull up on Smoothie King. Man, they may
have something to talk about.

Speaker 4 (12:24):
It's so good. Sometimes they just gotta pause from it
because then I'm going to get too full. But it's
so good and right now, folks, thanks to Smoothie King

Speaker 13 (19:52):
Did have a procedure, all right, and he's gonna be
out for a while a while. I think we would
be fortunate to have it chance to get him back
for the rest of the season. Yeah, at some point,
I think that's very very slim. I mean, you guys.
Good news is the procedure went really well long term? Yes, man,
I'm here obviously.

Speaker 4 (20:12):
So that's Dan Campbell and he's talking about Sam Laporta. Unfortunately,
Sam Laporta, from all accounts, you will not be back
the rest of the regular season. The good news, there's
some slight good news.

Speaker 3 (20:25):
Is there that? Yeah, that conversation.

Speaker 4 (20:28):
Well, Malcolm Rodriguez and DJ Reader are expected back this weekend,
he said, And Marcus Davenport is close. Don't come on
stop with the arrows, all right, right, but the Laporta
news is really troubling. He's a lot more important than
I think people realize. I remember the guy once said

(20:48):
the tight end is a luxury position, and I literally laughed.
I thought it was absolutely asinine. They're so important to
an offense. It's not your typical you know, Steve Voight
back in the day in the seventies. All right, these
guys are really really important these days. Just in case
people missed us the other day, I mean, you thought

(21:08):
this was a really big deal. What do you think
they missed most? When they have eighty seven out.

Speaker 3 (21:12):
This is a major deal.

Speaker 1 (21:13):
Like at the end of the day, the tight end
has become a position that you really need, and especially
if you have one of those te ones like take
away Tyler Warren from the Indianapolis Coach take away, Trey
McBride from the Arizona Cardinals.

Speaker 3 (21:24):
Takeaway.

Speaker 1 (21:25):
In fact, he is taking away, look at Tucker Kraft
being out, and look at what the Green Bays offense
looks like. He's not just a tight end one. He's
their number one player, as the other guys are that
I mentioned. I think we saw kind of first hand
this past game what it looks like with him out. Granted,
the Philadelphia Eagles defense is the best in the league.
Philadelphia Eagles, and what they do that that's gonna look

(21:47):
like that for the most part. But if you would
have had Sam Laporter out there being able to do
some of the things that he does, the big thing
that he's done for the Lions this year get the
offense going. He's the guy that they get into rhythm
with in the first quarter. You look at this season,
the games that he's played in, especially the wins ship
they legitimately get him the ball often in early early on,
they get a sense of that, and then they start

(22:08):
getting the ball to Jamier Gibbs, almar Rossaint Brown and
everybody else not having that outlet And not only is
it the pass receiving, not only is it how good
of a play maker he is. Hence the touchdown in
the back of the end zone, which I still can't
believe he was able to catch one, get both feet
down and laugh about it. But it's the blocking. He's
one of the best blocking tighter. He's one of the
best blockers that the Detroit Lions have bar nun at

(22:29):
any position. So to not have him and the blocking
especially that you see you need now with offensive line
play being down, with some linemen being injured, you need
that blocking aspect of Sam Laporter More than ever.

Speaker 3 (22:42):
And also you need him as dare.

Speaker 1 (22:44):
I say, a safety blanket for Jared Goff, Like safety
blanket is not a disrespectful word. Every team, every player,
every QB one, he's got a guy that say, look,
this is guy i'mnna finding these moments. This is the
guy that I'm gonna feel to kind of get myself going.

Speaker 4 (23:01):
And also he's a damn good players A compliment. Quite honestly,
if you're a security blanket, you're a safety blanket. You've
been that at the collegiate level. I want to I
know I can trust that dude. That's the big that's
what you're telling people. I trust this guy.

Speaker 1 (23:14):
To throw the ball to I don't like that this
happened too, considering the conversations that we were having three
weeks ago about who to bring back and who not
to bring back, and you can get rid of Sam
Laporta and we can bring another tight end here, because
now it looks stupid when you look at what the
game look like with him not in there, and now
we're having this conversation about him being out the year
and what that energy is.

Speaker 3 (23:33):
That was negligent on my part.

Speaker 1 (23:34):
Sam Laporta was a big part of what this Lion's
offense was because he's out right now, this is a
tough pill to swallow. I'm not saying this is going
to derail them in terms of not being the leader
in the NFC North wind.

Speaker 3 (23:46):
The season's over making it to.

Speaker 1 (23:48):
The playoffs, but this right here, it's gonna make some
of these games a lot more hard.

Speaker 4 (23:52):
I love that you brought other tight ends into the
mix because you're one hundred percent right okay, and Trey
mcbridley's all tight ends right now and receiving.

Speaker 3 (24:00):
Travis Kelsey's old self.

Speaker 1 (24:01):
You will see when Patack mahons the second, when Patrick
Mahomes is trying to find himself, fifteen is looking for eighty.

Speaker 3 (24:07):
Seven, who wouldn't be I would?

Speaker 4 (24:10):
Yeah, So you know sixteen is here. But here's the
devil's advocate with Indy. It's a great example because Tyler
Warren's outstanding and with Arizona they don't have the other
weapons the Lions have. So how do they cushion this
blow because it is a blow by making sure the

(24:31):
other guys are involved in what they have to do.

Speaker 1 (24:33):
Do you think it turns to detroy a Lions? And
now what does Zilstra's role become what is whites roll?

Speaker 4 (24:39):
What about the other guys I'm.

Speaker 1 (24:41):
Around saying Brown, Jamo, the whole nine yards. Those guys
are going to have to step it up. But it
starts with Dan Campbell. It starts with who's ever giving
input on the offensive play game, if he's getting help,
if Johnny Moe is still assisting, or whoever else is
still assisting. Like, now, you guys got to come up
as a collective like how do we make this thing work?
How do we keep it interesting? You now have to
really lean on your studs. Like we talked about how

(25:03):
good Ama Ron Saint Brown is. Unfortunately, now is the
time to prove. We talked about what Jamo could be.
He got paid, he got the bag, etc. They saw
him as that type of player to extend for twenty
nine close to the thirty million dollars. Now, Jamison Williams,
it's time for you to prove that you're worth this money.
Jared Goff, that offensive line, everybody on that offense is
going to have to step up. And that's not like,

(25:23):
that's not coach b That's that's the damn truth. That's
the truth.

Speaker 4 (25:28):
Yeah, do you envision them. Look, you and I were
talking earlier in the week about the loss to Philadelphia
and how they really didn't get to the edge like
you were hoping to. You thought they would have to
go short passes. Philly knew that they did that. That's
where they boughted some knock so many passes down. How
do you think this will change their offense if at all? Like,

(25:49):
will they try and get Gibbs to the edge more
or not because he was such a good sealed blocker
on things like that. How do you think this impacts
other weapons within their You.

Speaker 3 (26:00):
Gotta use your mirror games more.

Speaker 1 (26:01):
And I think you saw that in that game against
Philly when they were putting him on the outside, when
they were getting the ball into a quick receiver space,
getting him on the outside and outflanking the defensive line
and getting him out there, and he had some success.
You'll see more of that because, frankly, the teams that
we'll see coming down the pipeline, there's some good defensive
We talked about, really good defensive lines, but they're not
the Philadelphia Eagles. Philadelphia Eagles aren't just a defensive line.

Speaker 3 (26:24):
They're lying.

Speaker 1 (26:25):
There's a second level there's the safeties, there's the corners,
as we know, so they're all around a great defense.
It won't be like that in Dallas and the Giants
and Green Bay Packers. So you gotta do more of that.
You gotta have more that. You gotta have more of
that success. And also, don't be afraid. I know you're
icing Dave Montgomery out because you know you're probably gonna

(26:45):
move on for him, or you don't necessarily see him
as what they were in the past, thunder and lightning
your sonic and knuckles.

Speaker 3 (26:51):
But uh, that's bs.

Speaker 1 (26:53):
I would get him more involved as well because he
extends possessions. He beats up on that defensive line. The
offensive line can beat up on the defensive line. Extending
drives time of possession. Time of possession now becomes a
big thing for the Detroit Lions. It is no longer hey,
we can just score quick. It doesn't matter.

Speaker 3 (27:10):
No, you haven't proven that you can score quick.

Speaker 1 (27:12):
You haven't proven that Jamo over the top or Jamiir
hitting the house call is a consistent enough thing that
you can depend on. Now, you've got to play a
time of possession type game with this offensive line. That's
what I would go to Leonard holding the clock man.

Speaker 4 (27:25):
It's interesting. I had a New York writer on my
radio show this morning, Gary Myers, and he's written a
few books, Brady Versus Manning, Brady and Belichick, and one
about the eighty six Giants too. He thinks the Giants
are a decent club and that they can turn things
around quickly because they when they go into the draft,
they already feel like they have their quarterback in Jackson Dark.

(27:48):
They feel like he looks the part, if you will.
But he said what I thought of you right away.
He said, the problem with this team has been it's
defensive front. They have not been as good as people
thought they would be, including my favorite player from the draft,
at Duel Carter. He has a half a sack, which

(28:11):
stuns me. Yeah, okay, because because I thought this guy
like I would have taken him number one. That's how
much I liked him at Penn State. What is what?
What am I missing here? Thinking that you know Dexter
Lawrence and Keevon Thibodeaux and Bryan Burns. What am I
missing here that you think the Giants have not been

(28:33):
able to do? And what Detroit might be able to
take advantage of.

Speaker 1 (28:36):
And Giants have always been a selfish team, like in
terms of the players that played for their team, the organization,
like they don't have any camaraderie about themselves. Even when
I was playing in New York, when I was playing
for the Jets, it's either super Bowl or would get
beat up all season not even make the postseason. You
get a lot of end things fighting. That's why you
look at a player like Keavon Thibeau, which I believe
is coming to his own. Kaveon Thiberdau didn't get drafted

(28:56):
here because Dan Campbell didn't believe he was a guy
that was going to do all the things necessary and
be accountable all the time, and it took him a
while to get going. Sometimes you see some of that personality,
that individuality. Are you focusing more on what football is?
Are you focusing more on what the Big Apple brings?
Abdua Carter, you brought his name up. Stop oversleeping and
missing meetings, like that's why he got benched last week
and the week before that. Like he's done. Like, stop

(29:18):
worrying about wearing Lawrence Taylor's number, Phil Simms, worry about
being into meetings worry about sitting behind Brian Burns and
learning from a guy right now, the second in sex
like Dexter Lawrence. Like he's a great defensive tackle, one
of the top three in the league right now, but
he can only do so much. I think you have
a lot of individualism. And they said that about Odell
Beckham when they wanted to get him out of here.
But what they didn't say is, well, that's all of

(29:39):
us and also to Joe Shane and all that, like
it's it's that's interesting.

Speaker 3 (29:43):
It's an interesting situation.

Speaker 1 (29:45):
I feel like in New York, much like in it's
really that division, really like the Dallas Cowboy. It's a
lot of individuals, a lot of personalities doing their thing.

Speaker 4 (29:57):
A lot of times some of those teams and they win.
I mean, look look at Philadelphia. I mean, we've talked
about this. Maybe it's overblown, it could be, but we've
talked about it with AJ Brown and now the Jalen
Hurts things. I mean, it seems like and Sae Kwon
Barkley doesn't seem like the kind of guy would fit
in there because of what he does. And you sure
wouldn't expect that from a team led by Brandon Graham either.

(30:19):
So that's what I think about a lot of times
when we talk about culture, and I think sometimes we
fall back on you and I, but I mean people
in general, we fall back on it quite a bit
because when a team wins, we think that's that's their culture. Right,
Philly's culture from the outside looking in doesn't look all
that great, and yet it's led by a guy in
the past, by a guy we would consider a culture builder,

(30:42):
in a Brandon Graham.

Speaker 1 (30:44):
How do they make it work because they operating chaos,
Like if you go back to like, this is a
team that has legitimacy and also they have consistency. They
won a Super Bowl in twenty seventeen, twenty eighteen. They
kept a lot of those guys. They created that offensive
line that became their staple. So whatever bs is going
on between the wide receivers and the coaches, you still
got an offensive line that is locked and loaded. You

(31:04):
still have a defense that is locked and loaded. Four
years ago they made the Super Bowl with that offensive line.
With that team, they bought in AJ Brown. They put
up with AJ Brown because they had Jason Kelce. They
put up with AJ Brown because they had Brandon Graham,
and they had them last year when they won the
Super Bowl and they beat the breaks off of the
Kansas City Chiefs. They do a great job of operating
in chaos because they already have a culture. They got

(31:26):
a culture of winning and knowing how to do it
and knowing winning win to shut up. Now there's no
Jason Kelcey. Now they have to bring back Brandon Graham.
Now you see a little bit more like chinks in
the armor, if you will. That's not the New York Giants.
The New York Giants have been that without the culture,
they're that messed up, They're that fractured situation. They've been
that for a very long time. And as they've been
that for a very long time, you can't develop any consistency.

(31:49):
And also Howie Roseman, Harry Roseman is accountable. Harry Roseman
is an individual that keeps that ship going in the
right direction. Joe Shane, he's the guy that got rid
of Xavier McKinney and Sakwon Barkley so he could go
get two thousand yards last year with the Philadelphia Eagles.
So for what their chaos is, they have Howie Roseman,
they have a coach that likes to chaos and he

(32:10):
can deal in the chaos, and he still had destructure
in place. The Giants haven't had that structure, and the
last remnant of that was Eli Manning.

Speaker 4 (32:17):
Do you think it's a bad thing to have that
type of culture once in a while and then a minor,
minor level upset once in a while, that it's not
always smooth sailing? Say it again, like I think people
feel like championship teams just cruise and everything's good, everything

(32:37):
is rosy every single night between players and coaches in
front office and road trips and all this other stuff,
and that's just not the case. Do you think it
can be a good thing if there's a little upheaval
once in a while.

Speaker 1 (32:49):
Yeah, because it keeps it fresh at the end of
the day. Because also you have to be you have
to prove that you can overcome things. I think as
a team every once in a while, you have to
prove that the resolve is still there. You have to
prove that now we're still good. Yeah, We're gonna have
some hiccups, some bumps in a row. And I think
for the Eagles last year, that big hiccup was towards
the end of the season where AJ Brown's reading books.

(33:10):
AJ Brown has something to say, and they were trying
to figure out that. Devonte Smith and Jalen Hurts had
a situation earlier in last year talking about you know what,
it's none of our business, but they had a situation
where they had to deal with that, and they were
able to get to the other side of the Devonte
Smith and Jalen situation. They were able to get to
the other side of AJ Brown and reading books and

(33:31):
seeming disinterested to the tune of how bad did they
beat the Chiefs in the playoffs? So sometimes it's cool
to have that, not all the time.

Speaker 4 (33:39):
It's a really good point that he brings up. And
this is what makes him so good at this business.
He's able to lead right into something that we wanted
to talk about, and we will talk about this this
new sport that's taking getting raves and unstrictable and see
if it works here in the States. But before we
get to that, listen to what Jason Kelsey said about
what Braak was just referring to on that not everything

(34:04):
is a Kumbaya moment when it comes to football teams,
and especially his football team here.

Speaker 3 (34:09):
It is listen.

Speaker 14 (34:10):
I think the quotes on Jalen. I I think that
there are frustrations within a team that build up continually,
and I think Jalen gets a lot of the highlighting
of that, again because he's a quarterback. Me and Lane
Johnson one year, I'll put this out there, Me and
Lane Johnson. One year at the end of Chip Kelly's career,

(34:32):
Lane made him common in the media said something along
the lines of, you know, we're the up tempo offense
is way too hard on us in practice and we're
working too difficult and guys are getting fatigued. And I
remember reading that and I'm like, dude, and I went
out and said something in the media and said, you
know what is Lane? Though Lane's only been with the Philadelphias,

(34:52):
how does he know what it feels like to do
other practices. He's only practiced with Chip Kelly. So he's
saying something, imparroting something from what other guys are saying,
and like, to be honest, I think we're pretty pampered
here in Philadelphia. And Lane then made another comment, Lane
I didn't talk for an entire offseason. Wow, Lane is
like one of my best friends, Like I love that guy.

Speaker 4 (35:14):
And that's pretty interesting, isn't it. They didn't talk for
an entire offseason. They played on the same line. It
was vital that they worked together in order for the
team to be good enough to challenge for the goals
that they wanted to accomplish. But they had to get
through something. It's okay once in a while to have
a little bit of controversy.

Speaker 1 (35:36):
Yeah, if you have men around, like if you have
obviously we're talking about a man sports, so don't take
it that way. But if you have like men, like
real men that can sit down and they can get
through the bs and they're grown and immature and they
can understand what the situation is and they can understand
what the goal is and how to get to.

Speaker 3 (35:49):
The other side, then you can have that.

Speaker 1 (35:51):
But if you're dealing with, you know, a bunch of
young guys or immaturity and you don't have those staples
like Lane is a year thirteen staple, Jason Kelsey was
a year team staple now retired. And you look at
Brandon Graham, you look down that offensive line, or you
look in on that team, you had a lot of
guys that understand what they are, what they've been through
and how to move forward. They dealt with a lot

(36:14):
over the last four years, and even now they're still
dealing with whatever the situation is with aj Brown, Jalen
Hurst and what did they currently first in the NFC.

Speaker 3 (36:24):
Some teams just thrive in this chaos. But when you
missing pieces like Jason Kelce, you know, when.

Speaker 1 (36:31):
You got to go back and pull Brandon Graham from
retirement here in Michigan.

Speaker 3 (36:36):
I think his house is around the corner.

Speaker 1 (36:37):
When you got to pull that guy back, it's showing
you that you can't make this thing work for too
much longer.

Speaker 4 (36:42):
Michael Werry had a good comment in the chat, and
we welcome all your comments in the chat. He says
a good leader makes his people want to buy in.
That's the sign of leadership. And then Duncan Stewart in
the chat said Braylan, Sir, would you rather face four
and three defense or a three read down four linebackers
set as a wide receiver. That's a really good question.

(37:04):
Do you want to see a four to three a
three to four? And if you could explain the difference
for folks who may not necessarily.

Speaker 1 (37:09):
Know, give me a four to three defense because usually
the four to three defenses, they're not going to necessarily
blitz a lot. They trust the four down linemen that
they have for the most part. And also too, it's
less people in the back end, which means there's more room.
There's more room for you a three wide receiver set
to operate. There's more spacing. That means I can get
to my route on the outside fifteen twenty yards down
the field. There's some spacing in the slot for a

(37:32):
Sam laporter. There's some spacing for Jamier Gibbs if he
wants to come out of the backfield run angle routes.

Speaker 3 (37:36):
And they're spacing for the other.

Speaker 1 (37:37):
Two ride receivers to do what they need to do
and the quarterback to be able to see it. Sometimes
when you have these three fours and drop a lot
of excuse me, secondary players, linebacker players into the coverage
into the field, a lot of times guys can't see it.
A lot of times they have. You know, they'll make plays.
So for me, I like more down linemen, less blitzes,

(37:57):
and I have more spacing with my wiv resis and
everybody else trying to get the pass.

Speaker 3 (38:02):
Makes it easier. Look for Jared goff.

Speaker 4 (38:04):
Really good question. Even better answer a great question when
we come back. This is a wild new sport taking
place in Australia. We've got video of it, and then
get your thoughts on it. It is a manly man's
sport for sure. And speaking of man.

Speaker 15 (38:22):
We need to figure out how we sign up signed
up for this.

Speaker 4 (38:24):
Yeah, you're not gonna want to be up for it.
And I don't think either either you or Brendan or
signing up for it either. But I can tell you
people are going to be very interested in when we
come back from this.

Speaker 1 (38:33):

In sports, not everybody loves football. I find it hard
to believe you can't, but not everybody loves football, right.
That's strange to me. I don't know how you can't
like hockey, basketball, and baseball. I mean, those four staples
in our country. I get some people enjoy NASCAR a
little bit more or F one and all that. That's fine.

(43:42):
I've worked in just about all of them, and I
truly enjoy all of them. But there are certain sports
I watch and I think, how do you not like that?

Speaker 5 (43:49):
You know?

Speaker 4 (43:50):
I mean, if you're about being physical? And that's what
I've always felt like the United States of America is
you love the physicality, you love the toughness. That's part
of what I love most about football, what I love
about hockey and lacrosse quite honestly as well. I just
can't understand how people wouldn't like it. There's a new

Speaker 3 (45:09):
I'm good on this.

Speaker 6 (45:11):
They're not gonna represent this part.

Speaker 1 (45:13):
No, no, thank you, because I'm gonna tell you like this,
like at the end of the day, like I'm gonna
catch somebody slipping, you know, I'm n knock somebody out,
But like these guys do.

Speaker 3 (45:23):
This, I don't want to smoke.

Speaker 1 (45:24):
I don't want to smoke, becau I'm gonna gain he's
getting low and run me over Like nah, I'm.

Speaker 3 (45:28):
Cool and listen.

Speaker 4 (45:29):
It's one thing doing it in pads right crazy, but
doing it like this. If my luck would be, I'd
be matched up with the two hundred and sixty five
pound gladiator who's yoked, and he would just send me
flying across the room. You know anybody who would be
really good at this and would want to.

Speaker 3 (45:44):
Do this, James Harrison.

Speaker 4 (45:47):
James Harrison would be James Harrison.

Speaker 3 (45:49):
Will be excellent at this.

Speaker 1 (45:50):
I'm telling you, like I always talk about the Polynesian culture.
You guys have heard me talk about when we talk
about they are different. They are born different, they are
cut different, they are different things inside their They're built
for this, like the thicker bodies they muscle behind that thickness.

Speaker 3 (46:06):
I'm good. Who would you do?

Speaker 6 (46:08):
So?

Speaker 4 (46:08):
Who would you take? Pick somebody? So you take James Harrison,
I'd probably take HELLOADI nada? Heloading once again, HELLOADI not.
I didn't know James. James Harrison is not Polynesian.

Speaker 6 (46:21):
Brother.

Speaker 4 (46:21):
Yeah, he's a brother.

Speaker 5 (46:22):
I know that.

Speaker 4 (46:23):
I thought he might have had some Polynesian blood. But
HELLOADI nada to me. I mean I remember covering him
when he was with the Lions. I have never seen
a more And this is not from a mental stand
a dense like he he is literally like a wall.
Like you push on that dude and you're like, oh,
I didn't realize this is a wall.

Speaker 15 (46:42):
Right here, right my dad Robert like that.

Speaker 4 (46:46):
Well, Robert, Robert Porchet was just yoked. I mean he
was built right. I mean that that era of Lions football, him,
David Sloane, Mel Gray, Johnny Morton, those guys were just ripped. Okay,
they all looked like Braylan, but Robert Borchet was bigger
than that. Halodin Nada was just math. You you you

(47:10):
touch that dude, It's like this, somebody's just gonna bounce
off that guy.

Speaker 3 (47:14):
And that's all it is.

Speaker 1 (47:15):
But that's the thing that Holoda is not gonna be
running down there for speed, need to exactly walking, and
they were running to him and they'll bounce off.

Speaker 5 (47:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (47:23):
I used to hate playing against him.

Speaker 5 (47:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (47:25):
Look, you could have a jeep Grand Cherokee running it,
you know, on high speed running Colodinada. I'll take coloding Nada.
The thing just crushes he. You can run as fast
as him. I don't care if he waddles his way.
That person is still going down. Uh kool aid? Who
do you got in something like this?

Speaker 16 (47:42):
Oh my goodness, I want to believe. I want to
believe Ben Wallace could do something like that.

Speaker 4 (47:49):
How did I know his mind?

Speaker 6 (47:52):
Wallace? And for me?

Speaker 3 (47:54):
But I stick with the second one.

Speaker 6 (47:56):
Yeah, Sue. Sue was the.

Speaker 4 (47:58):
First name, and I was like, that's a good one.

Speaker 6 (48:01):
But it's gotta be.

Speaker 1 (48:04):
Yes to all like the leverage like and I'm not
disrespecting his country strength because he is one of the
cut strongest people I've ever encountered. But you're talking about
six ten, six nine and a half, I want to
say six ten. You're talking about having to get load.
These guys are running full speed at you know, five
ten to sixty three, and they're dance like chef says,
and they're bringing that nah because he can't get low
enough now and dominic.

Speaker 4 (48:24):
And suit that's a good one.

Speaker 3 (48:25):
That's great.

Speaker 4 (48:26):
Nasty, that would be nasty, and he would well.

Speaker 3 (48:29):
Oh hold on, if you're gonna go that road, how
do we forget me? He just retired the beast of
the last ten years in the NFL.

Speaker 6 (48:38):
That's who I was.

Speaker 5 (48:39):
I cut your guy.

Speaker 4 (48:40):
We'll get let's let's ring that bell like, you're probably
right about that, because he's he would pick up speed.
I would, yeah, I would not want to face that
dude at all.

Speaker 1 (48:50):
Or how do no one said the guy that plays
down the street at Ford Field.

Speaker 3 (48:55):
I know he's right, Tackley. Here's in my mind too, Penny.

Speaker 4 (48:59):
I just I think that for some reason, my mind
goes to the defensive side.

Speaker 1 (49:03):
Because they're more athletic and they move more like I
don't want to say the more athletic, but you can
move some of the offensive lineman out of there. But
they're smaller and faster. That's what their job is. A
lot get a little speed build up.

Speaker 3 (49:14):
A lot of them.

Speaker 1 (49:14):
Started in different positions and eventually they just got big
enough to where they moved on the defensive line. But
we saw Pene Sui in terms of athleticism.

Speaker 3 (49:22):
You see him catch a pass.

Speaker 1 (49:23):
On one hand, be able to move around a little
bit like there's some there's some wiggle into Piney.

Speaker 4 (49:28):
So that okay, if if we just kept it to
today's football, all right, we can't go back with Aaron Donald,
even though I think that's a winner, that's a really
good one. We can't go with the DOMINICANSU. That's a
good one, aloading Nada, James Harrison. If we're gonna take
today's current players, can I use vide Vea. Yeah, okay,

(49:50):
so that's that's the guy who comes to my mind.
I would take Videvea fair. Okay.

Speaker 3 (49:56):
What about recard Y you ran over talk about the
fullback for the Baltimore Ravens.

Speaker 4 (50:05):
Uh huh. I think he would welcome it. I don't
know if i'd take him over a guy like Videvea. Yeah, vite.
I mean, he's just he's an absolute At times, he
seems like an immovable object at six four three and
fifty pounds. How are you going to stop that? Right?
That's a that's a really tough one.

Speaker 13 (50:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (50:25):
Now, originally I also thought Michah Parsons, But you guys
have seen the video of Michaeh Parsons against the sumo wrestler.
He couldn't move him. The wrestler was actually laughing in
his face, saying, you know what is this? This is
funny different. Those sumo guys are built really different.

Speaker 1 (50:45):
To not so they're in the locker room. I believe
they're kind of like no sleep though. Mike Mike. He
did a little some towards the end, but now there's
no moving them because they their base and that I
operate even the lowest tier uh sumo wrest even the
lowest tier yokozuna as they're call yokozuna, is when you
actually win that not just the WWF gay from back

(51:07):
in the day rest in peace, but the yokozuna titles
when you become a champion, when you become a grand master,
even the lowest guy on that yokozuna pattern will mop
the floor with you.

Speaker 3 (51:17):
In terms of getting some space. You're not gonna move them.

Speaker 4 (51:20):
I saw a video of a kid, he's I believe.
They said he was fourteen years old as a sumo
and he wasn't fully developed into his big sumo body,
and he beat this guy who was so much bigger
than him because of his leverage. His strength in his
lower body was just incredible. So if I could take
maybe assumo, that wouldn't be a bad one because they'd

(51:41):
be bouncing off them too. Anyway, Videvea came to mind
for me for sure. I thought you'd get a kick
out of that, because that is the new craze right
now in Australia. I don't know if it's coming here
anytime soon, but i'd maybe go watch it, but I
sure wouldn't sign up for it.

Speaker 1 (51:55):
Everything always comes here because we're a country that loves excitement.
We're a country that is rooted in in foolishness. Sometimes.
I remember watching this. This is when I was doing
the show. I was doing radio show okay, and I
didn't last long. I got literally did it for two days.
I got to nod. They said we want to go
with you full time. I said, cool, signed up. And
as I'm telling the story, you'll figure out what it was.

(52:16):
It was two pros and the Joe, the whole nine yards.
I was filling in for Lindsey Hunter, who had just
become the basketball coach out in Buffalo. And one of
the jobs of us was it for our show, Like
I'll never do it for him. But one of the
things that we did was that we take, you know,
random news articles or news stories around the country or

(52:39):
around and we would present the store. So the story
that I got to present was when ax Storing first
came about, and obviously throwing starts in Canada. And I'm
watching this clip and I'm like so you're gonna let
people get drunk and then.

Speaker 4 (52:54):
Throw access at people exactly.

Speaker 1 (52:57):
And so I'm like, this is crazy. So that was
my story. I presented it and everybody was talking about it.
Lo and behold, I actually one was here legitimately three
four five months later it was here. So yes, I
think this will come to the United States, just like.

Speaker 4 (53:10):
Slapping like this, Yes, that's a big deal now right,
it's here. I was, yeah, power slapping.

Speaker 1 (53:17):
This will be here at some point because you got
a lot of idiots. They want to do this stuff.

Speaker 4 (53:20):
The only thing is me, the only thing I would
say to the axe throwing and the only reason I
know this I saw a video on it earlier today.
Johnny Carson had a guy on. It was black and
whites back in the night. It was late sixties, and
this guy was teaching him how to throw an axe
or a hatchet if you will, because that's really what
you're throwing, right right, And they put the design of

(53:42):
a guy up there on a wooden wall. The guy
throws it, and he throws it right in the groin, Yeah,
right in the groin.

Speaker 5 (53:49):
And that was it.

Speaker 4 (53:50):
I mean, the whole the whole crowd started laughing obviously
because you know the look that it had on television
and then the comment made by Johnny Carson. So I
wonder exactly when that came to the United States. Must
not all like that guy? What we do like and
what we don't like about the Lions? Right now? What

(54:12):
makes you believe or not believe in the Lions of
the remaining seven games? Even Aiden Hutchinson has come out
and said, look, we gotta win the next three games.
Why do you believe it? Why don't you believe it?
Will dive into that when we come back on the
Brillan Edwards Show presented by Smoothie Kick on a Friday.

And we've been such a quick thought. So we're gonna
keep it with football. But I watch just like you
guys do. We watch sports every night, right, we watch
the NBA. You see how good Jokic is. We know
how good Kate Cunningham is. We know how good shake

(01:02:20):
Gilchas Alexander is. Sagoon is really starting to develop into
a hell of a player in Houston. He and Jokic
are the only ones averaging better than twenty eleven and
seven right now. Both of them, as we all know,
are our foreign players. So I try to self evaluate.

(01:02:40):
I like Kid Cunningham a lot because he's an American player,
all right, and I know there's a lot of them
out there, but there's a lot of some of the
best players in the world right now, some of the
best players in the NBA are foreign players yea, Luka
Doncic foreign player, jannisant At Takumpo foreign player.

Speaker 3 (01:03:00):
You can just start saying all the m vps. I
was about to say, all the MVPs.

Speaker 1 (01:03:03):
Hasn't been American m pole in a very long time
like that. Lets you know, yeah, MVP's last eight eight years.

Speaker 4 (01:03:09):
I'm just wondering if I'm the only one admitting this
and thinking about it.

Speaker 3 (01:03:13):
Oh that you cheer for the American players, Well.

Speaker 5 (01:03:15):
Not that I don't.

Speaker 4 (01:03:16):
I have no problem. People take their shots at me
all the while. I'm gonna cheer for American players. I
don't give a crap who it is, right, that's what
I want. But maybe I shouldn't be thinking that way
in the NBA in general. But it's another reason why
I'm like, come on, Kate, I want you to be.
I want you to be. It's not just the Pistons
angle for me. It's the United States angle for me

(01:03:36):
as well also too.

Speaker 1 (01:03:37):
I think I like the k angle as it relates
to that. Look, I agree, like you can say what
you want to about me. I want the trophy to
come back to America. It is like I hate when
Toronto or or.

Speaker 3 (01:03:46):
Winning any of these seas.

Speaker 1 (01:03:47):
I hate when any contention because it's like no, no, no, no no.
When it's Toronto Raptors one, I was like, now we
have to send a trophy north of you know the border.

Speaker 3 (01:03:56):
So I'm one hundred.

Speaker 1 (01:04:02):
This is the country that I live in, this is
the country I was born, and this is the country
every four years. I get super excited because I know
what I'm cheering for. I'm representing the real right or
I'm cheering for the rare white and blues as it's represented.
Watching Steph Curry and what he did to the France
team to excuse me, to the French team in the Olympics,
like that was a marvel and I'm marveled at it,
not just because it was Steph Curry, because it was

(01:04:23):
an American kicking ass of the rest of the world.

Speaker 3 (01:04:25):
With Ky Cunningham.

Speaker 1 (01:04:27):
He exhuses potentially what that trophy can represent, Like Jason Tatum,
like is he even the best player on his team?

Speaker 3 (01:04:34):
His demeanor it bothers me. It's you name the Anthony Edwards.
I love last name.

Speaker 4 (01:04:40):
I love I love I love what he is, I love.

Speaker 1 (01:04:44):
What Anthony Edwards is as a player. But I'm like
at they Edwards, he got a lot of other bs
going on, like Cade's the guy that I believe when
he ascends to that point and he is in that potential,
I believe the crown fits is hit well. I believe
he would represent the NBPA and like the NBA looks
like and oh, by the way.

Speaker 3 (01:05:04):
Yeah, no no, no, no, no, no no.

Speaker 1 (01:05:05):
You don't have to go to France. You don't have
to go to Greece, you don't have to go to Canada,
you don't have to go to Serbia. You don't have
to go to these players to get the best player
in the world. You can go right here in Detroit.
So I think that part is what I agree with you.

Speaker 4 (01:05:20):
I'm gonna get corny here, all right, And that's fine.
People in the check can say all they want about that.
The last American born MVP, I think was James Harden, right,
I believe that it.

Speaker 3 (01:05:28):
Was eighteen seventeen.

Speaker 4 (01:05:30):
Yeah, something like that. Yeah, I believe. So, I mean, cool,
they can check us on that. I'm gonna I'm gonna
say something really corny, but it's okay. The other thing
I like most about Kid Cunningham, obviously, his game speaks
for itself. I love the way he handles himself. Okay,
now I get caught up in that, and a lot
of people roll the rise and that's fine, But it
means something to me when a guy can go out

(01:05:51):
there and be self deprecating. When a guy comes out
there and thinks team first, When a guy is taking
his teammates and helping coach them on the bench even
though he's not playing, When that guy is totally engaged,
when that guy likes and loves our city, When that
guy represents the city, the franchise, and his last name

(01:06:11):
the same way. That's what I like about him, in
addition to the way he shoots, the way he passes,
the way he gets everybody involved, and the way he
glides up and down the floor. Now, would I like
him to shoot better from the floor, Yes, absolutely, But
so many of those little things that make me proud
that he's a Piston come out and want me to

(01:06:33):
root for him even more. To be an MVP candidate.

Speaker 3 (01:06:36):
Yeah, not true.

Speaker 1 (01:06:37):
There's nothing wrong with that. There's nothing wrong with wanting
the trophy to represent all the things. And when you
say MVP, you're not just saying the best shooter. When
you say MVP, you're not talking about the best athlete,
the best slasher, or who looks the best doing or
who's averaging the most points. You're talking about somebody that
represents the trophy in always.

Speaker 3 (01:06:51):
Is he a leader? Does he command respect from his teammates?
Is he leading them two.

Speaker 1 (01:06:55):
Places where they have opportunities to play for the Larry O'Brian, like,
these are what this is what you want?

Speaker 3 (01:07:01):
Are they winning to Larry O'Brien.

Speaker 1 (01:07:02):
Shay Gil just did it last year and kudos to him,
and Yokis did it the year he wants, so kudos
to them. But that's what the m v P trophy
in all of this, that's what it represents. Like when
we bring up m vps from the past, there's a
certain respect. When you mentioned a Magic Johnson, you mentioned
Larry Bird, when you mentioned Michael Jordan, when you mentioned
insert player here, that's one that it comes with dunc

(01:07:25):
Tim Tim.

Speaker 4 (01:07:26):
Duncans, although he's from the Bahamas.

Speaker 1 (01:07:28):
Shaq when Shaq was in his peak of winning that
like that was the best version of Shaq that according
to Kobe you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (01:07:35):
So that's what you wanted to look like Koby's a
good example. Kobe's great example. Should have got more, but
we understand what happened.

Speaker 4 (01:07:40):
Yeah, love Kobe, I really did. I loved him. Yeah,
well that's true. Top seven scorers. Not that this always
determines the m v P, but it's a big part
of it. Top seven scorers, five of them are foreign
born players jeph White Eye Okay, the only two who
are not are Tyres and Donovan Mitchell.

Speaker 1 (01:08:01):
Form players have a little bit of the advantage man,
in terms, like we've had this conversation the foreign game
versus the American game, Like they got a little bit
of an advantage, and since they grow up a lot
faster over there, like it's all about that sports, especially basketball,
Like they played the game of basketball. They're focused in
on the things around the game. And also they're playing
at the pro level.

Speaker 4 (01:08:21):
Thirteen fourteen, that's sixteen years old.

Speaker 1 (01:08:23):
So by the time they get here, like women Yama
when he got here, they got drafted, was grown man.
As it relates to his conversation, as it relates to
what he looked like on the core, where his mind
was and things how he sees the game. Yeah, for sure,
they're much more mature because they start earlier. I think
the first time I really realized it was when you
see that Ricky Rubio.

Speaker 3 (01:08:43):
This is when he came out.

Speaker 1 (01:08:44):
We realized Rubio was playing against these guys at thirteen
years old. So by the time they get here, like
American guy, it's not necessarily a case their kids until
twenty four twenty three, like their kids on God giving
the ability and some skills that everybody's doing the same
dog on skills.

Speaker 4 (01:08:58):
We need to change that. You should we change that
if you're looking at a basketball standpoint, because we do
it that way in hockey. You've got eighteen year olds
playing against twenty three year olds in certain places in hockey. Okay,
and actually you saw him last night, Matthew Shaffer. He
might be the best defenceman in the Eastern Conference, really good.

(01:09:22):
He's only eighteen, he's legitimately eighteen years old, and he's
one of the best defensemen in the National Hockey League
right now. He was the first overall pick and boom,
he goes right to the NHL. That's not common, but
still they do have that on hockey. Do we change
that in basketball as well? You couldn't do that in football.
Eighteen year olds can't go up against the men that

(01:09:42):
play in the National football They can't. Eighteen year olds
can do that in baseball to a certain extent. I
know this a long time ago. Al Kline did it.
He went from high school to the major leagues. And
I know, again a long time ago might be a
little different. Now, do you think you should they should
be doing that? In basketball? There are some guys who
are really young.

Speaker 1 (01:10:00):
And to compete with that, I don't know, because I
don't know what that looks like. I don't know what
that stops you from doing. I don't know what that
level looks like in America, Like I don't know if
you know these pros over here, Like I don't know
what the inks would be like.

Speaker 3 (01:10:12):
I don't know what the temperament would be.

Speaker 1 (01:10:14):
I don't know if it's like, oh, this is supposed
to be the next such and such. I don't know
if it's extra elbows. I don't know if it's trying
to you get what I'm saying.

Speaker 4 (01:10:22):
I remember Cooper Flags nineteen so, but but he grew
up playing against big dude. He grew up playing against teenagers.

Speaker 3 (01:10:32):
Until his senior year.

Speaker 1 (01:10:34):
She's not saying his freshman year duke when he was
in the summer going against the USA team, and you
saw the growth and the things that he could be
able to do. I remember speaking of a dude. I
remember when Freddy Wudu, you know, soccer player. I remember
when he went pro with the with the twelve fourteen,
thirteen or fourteen DC DC unit whatever they were. Yeah,

(01:10:55):
he went with them, and man, those professional MLS players,
they beat the hell out of them.

Speaker 3 (01:11:00):
And it derailed his career.

Speaker 1 (01:11:01):
And then he had to come back later and he
was never the same player that they said he would
be because they started him too early. But that's that
American like they want to let they want to let
Freddy Dode come over here and just woooo woo woop
be a wizard on the on the on the pitch
as they called it. They put those elbows, those knees,
all the other stuff to tripping, and they really let
them know that, look, this is a man's game. That

(01:11:23):
would be the question is what would that temperament be
in America for those kids.

Speaker 4 (01:11:28):
Yeah, that's a good question. Just something I was thinking
about regarding basketball. Let me shift it back to football.
The Lions playing of course, this weekend against the Giants.
It's gonna be a tough stretch man. They got three
games in twelve days because you've got the Giants and
you've got Thanksgiving Day against Green Bay, and then the
following week it's another Thursday game against Dallas. All Right,

(01:11:50):
that is a really difficult thing to do. Okay. Eric
Spolster of the Miami Heat is out there complaining about
back to backs. Stop whining about it. Okay, you got
twelve back to BACKSWI does it. Baseball does it a
hell of a lot more than basketball does. And the
Lions got to do this in a twelve game stretch,
twelve day stretch. Three games. That is punishing. It's incredible

(01:12:11):
what they have to do with. I believe this team
in its final seven games. What they're gonna do six
and one, seven and zero, I'm not quite sure. But
I believe in them because of what they've built, because
of what they've shown me, because of the players they're
getting back, and because I truly believe the leadership of
this team, not just the coaches. I'm talking about the

(01:12:32):
players themselves. I don't think Aiden Hutchinson, I'm on Ron
Saint Brown, Jack Campbell, Penney Sewell will allow this stuff
to continue. I think they're going to be difference makers
and force everybody up to step forward. What is it
about this team you either believe or don't believe in
the final seven games.

Speaker 1 (01:12:50):
What I believe about this team is that all these
guys that you just named, they were all here.

Speaker 3 (01:12:54):
In the beginning of this rebuild.

Speaker 1 (01:12:56):
Like the majority of those guys, they were here in
twenty twenty one when the Lions were nothing. Then they
were cut off quin Tricia and it was like, oh guy,
here we go another regime. In fact, then they hired
the head coach before they hired the GM. Oh this
is going to be a bleep show. Oh he's talking
about bike Niekapson doing all that. And then they start
zero to eleven, you know, and they had.

Speaker 3 (01:13:12):
To go through that.

Speaker 1 (01:13:13):
They went to the next year twenty twenty two, and
where you get on the rod after going on six
and then twelve and five, then fifteen and two. So
the foundation of what this team has come through when
they drafted Pine, when they drafted a and they've drafted
amar Rod, Saint Brown, Jamier. All these pillars that they
have are damn good players and they're some of them
all Pro players. Jack Campbell this year will be an

(01:13:36):
All Pro player. So the fact that you have that
as your foundation that's still here, those guys understand what
it looked like on the other side, and those guys
understand what it looks like now. So to your point,
they can self police in that manner. Yeah, I get
it self policed after losing these games.

Speaker 3 (01:13:52):
It happens. They played some good teams.

Speaker 1 (01:13:53):
They played some bad moments, and they've shown some bad moments,
but they've still shown you at times what this team is.
Look at what that defense, look at how that defensive
line is building. Look at what Jack Campbell's building on
that secondary I mean, excuse me, in the second level,
if you will, safeties that Jamier getting time to Jamier
gives Brian Brant is still there. I think you have
enough of your foundation that you have built over the

(01:14:14):
last four years that doesn't go anywhere, that doesn't just
disappear overnight. I think between that, I think between Dan
Campbell being able to look he looks a little shaking
right now when it happens, like I've seen Andy Reid
shaking at the podium.

Speaker 3 (01:14:26):
Have you looked at.

Speaker 1 (01:14:27):
Andy Reid right now, he's a three times Super Bowl
champ and he looks disheveled at the microphone.

Speaker 4 (01:14:32):
Consider one of the best coaches in the history of
the league.

Speaker 1 (01:14:34):
So with that being said, you go through these ebbs
and flows sometimes and sometimes they are ugly. But I
think when you have that many good players, when you
have that many players that are in the tops in
the league at their position. But the mindset, these guys
have been here for four and five years building.

Speaker 3 (01:14:52):
This thing out the right way.

Speaker 1 (01:14:53):
They didn't build it and it come this far to
just you know what, Chicago's doing pretty good? Yeah, sure,
you know what, Green Bay? They got us in Game one.
Oh man, we gotta play the Dallas Cowboys. That season's over.
That's not what they're gonna do. That's us. That's the
fan base talking about that. I think there is some
result to this squad. And we've watched them. How many
times do we talk identity, how many time we talk culture,

(01:15:14):
how many time we talk what they're doing never losing
back to back and things like that.

Speaker 3 (01:15:18):
I don't care about the back to back.

Speaker 1 (01:15:19):
I care about the ideology that we will not lose
back to back games.

Speaker 3 (01:15:24):
Now, that's something like not necessarily.

Speaker 1 (01:15:26):
Oh you didn't lose back to back because you play No, no, no,
it's how you approach that. So when I look at that,
and I look at how that defensive line is playing,
I look at them getting some players back. Sure, los
Am Laporta, that's a punch, that's a blow. Next man up.
And you still have guys on this team that are elite,
not good, not guys.

Speaker 3 (01:15:45):
That make the Pro Bowl, not guys that are pretty good.

Speaker 1 (01:15:47):
And oh yeah, you got some guys that you guys
are elite dare I say best at their position. So
knowing that and knowing that those guys have been here
together in the trenches talking about what they want to do, me,
how many conversations they had about when we win the
Super Bowl, how many conversations they had when we get
to that dance, like it's gonna feel so good, all
the work that we've put in, all the moments that

(01:16:08):
we've been in. I think knowing that you can't help
but understand that this Detroit Lions team will rebound, You
can't help but believe that this Detroit Lions team is
going to figure out, especially just start with your division.
Let's not get away from the division. Let's not worry
about the NFC. Let's not worry about the super Bowl
and what happens down the line. Worry about your division.
Chicago Bears, are they beatable? They're beyond beatable. And look

(01:16:30):
what their schedule is. The Green Bay Packers, that offense
is abysmal. Like I said yesterday, defense is fine. And
then the Minnesota Vikings. Not worry about them. Yeah, they
beat you, they caught you slipping.

Speaker 3 (01:16:40):
It is what it is. But just look at the division.
Tell me the Lions aren't gonna win this division.

Speaker 1 (01:16:46):
So I start with the ideology pre foundation.

Speaker 3 (01:16:50):
Dan Campbell helped building that up.

Speaker 1 (01:16:51):
These guys talking about these moments for four or five
years and knowing that they're still the best team in
their division.

Speaker 4 (01:16:57):
I mean, do we think the Lions are unique to
anybody else? If you do, you not think that the
Denver is a team that has some concerns.

Speaker 1 (01:17:05):
Do you not think that that does not get rolled
into for.

Speaker 4 (01:17:10):
Sure and they would be the one seed of the
AFC right now. You don't think Philadelphia you mentioned it yesterday.
You don't think Philadelphia's got concerns about their offense. They
should be concerned about their offense. You think Tampa is
concerned about their defense, without question, they are. Maybe LA
feels pretty damn good, but there's probably somebody that going.
I just hope Matthew Stafford's back is okay and well

(01:17:31):
enough to get us through the season. Right, seven games left?
How many do they win?

Speaker 3 (01:17:40):
How many? Okay, you asked me. I think they win Sunday.
It's one. I believe they win Thanksgiving it's two.

Speaker 4 (01:17:49):
Okay, you don't like the Dallas matchup.

Speaker 3 (01:17:53):
I think they win five, five, five is my answer.

Speaker 4 (01:17:56):
Okay, so that'd be eleven wins. One shy of what
you predicted, now, okay, so five and to the rest
of the kool aid rest of the way. Seven games left?
What do you got?

Speaker 15 (01:18:08):
I think they I think that's about fair. Wind up
with five, going to the policy.

Speaker 4 (01:18:14):
Follow the leader, all right, yeah, I agree? Five to five?
All right, I've got six, I've got six. I think
the LA game is tough, and I think it's It
doesn't have anything to do with Stafford, quite honestly, because
I like the way De Trent's defense is playing. I
think the LA defense is pretty underrated. To be honest with you,
I think they're They've got some absolute ballers on that

(01:18:37):
side of the ball. I think we were caught up
because of how good Pukaku is, how reliable DeVante Adams is,
how they've got a one to two running back punch,
and how they've got arguably the best quarterback in the
league right now in Matthew Stafford. And we're forgetting just
how talented those guys are. On the defensive side of
the ball. I think they are the most balanced team

(01:18:58):
left in the National Football Yeah. I like Denver's defense more,
but I can't stand Denver's offense. And I'm talking about
balance here. The I do believe the Rams might be
the closest thing to what the Lions were during the
regular season a year ago, good balance on each side
of the ball. Although Detroit did lose Aiden Hutchinson as
we know, so I've got him winning six more games.

(01:19:20):
I think they win the division. I don't care as
much about home field as I originally thought. I just
don't want to go to Philadelphia in the middle of jailuar.
That's the concern. Yeah, Okay, And I know I know
there's some people in the chat already talking about Jared
Goff and cold weather and so on and so forth.

(01:19:40):
Granted the numbers are not great, I don't know, But.

Speaker 3 (01:19:44):
Where was Jared happen?

Speaker 1 (01:19:44):
And that's the question, where would Jared Golf have to
go in the code? With the exception of the December
I mean, the last game of the season against the
bed no place, it really was just the only Philly six.

Speaker 4 (01:19:55):
Six of the last seven games are all indoors.

Speaker 3 (01:19:57):
Tampa's let's say, let's talk about the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (01:19:59):
The playoffs, Tampa's w Seattle will be fine.

Speaker 4 (01:20:02):
You know this better than I do. Gets windy in January, though.

Speaker 1 (01:20:05):
Yeah, but it's not cold like it's not It's not
cold to the point where it's uncomfortable. I think the
thing with with with Jared Golf, it's the uncomfortability of
the cold mixed in with all the other elements.

Speaker 3 (01:20:17):
It's the cold though. It's the cold and the wind.

Speaker 1 (01:20:19):
You go to Seattle in January, guaranteed, whether it's gonna
be fifty five, light, drizzled, a little bit of win like,
he'll be finding that everywhere. Every team that's gonna qualify
for these playoffs. I mean, I don't think Green Bay
is getting in. Chicago's not getting it. Everywhere that you
will part Chicago, May, everywhere that you're going is gonna
be fine conditions, with the exception of Philly.

Speaker 3 (01:20:40):
Yeah, and if it happens.

Speaker 15 (01:20:41):
Philly brings that defense to it.

Speaker 16 (01:20:43):
Say, it's different when you when you matching that up
and you're paying that cold up with that, because we've
seen Jared Goff play decent outdoors well against phillylated them.

Speaker 4 (01:20:54):
What I'm saying, Yeah, I think I think you're right.
The cold the wins a major factor, but the wind
is a major fact for any quarterback.

Speaker 1 (01:21:02):
Jalen Hurts hasn't played well, with the exception of the
one game he went ham and cheese.

Speaker 5 (01:21:06):
And got a J.

Speaker 3 (01:21:07):
Brown involved.

Speaker 1 (01:21:08):
But outside that one game, he hasn't played well. But
look at what he did in that game. He was
horrid in that game. And I don't like Jared Jalen
Hurts as a quarterback per se, but I know he's
better than that game I don't like. Yeah, I think Stafford,
excuse me, Jared Goff's is a lot better.

Speaker 3 (01:21:24):
Than what you show in that game.

Speaker 1 (01:21:26):
That win, those conditions and that defense, it makes for
a cocktail you don't want.

Speaker 4 (01:21:30):
Yeah, I think what's happened this week is we've made
it seem like this is who Jared Goff is, when
Jared Goff and his tenure in Detroit has proven to
us this is an abarition what we saw in Philadelphia.
So I'm not as worried about that. The legitimate concerns
for their interior offensive line are there real and shared

(01:21:50):
by me as well. But if they can find a
way to help those guys a chip block here from
David Montgomery, a help block there from brock Wright, then
maybe you've got some things working. This is where the
offensive minds of the Lions coaching staff will be tested most.

Speaker 3 (01:22:08):
This is also good, like this is.

Speaker 1 (01:22:10):
It's good when you have situations like this and you're
going into games like the Giants. It's kind of like
when the Lions lost to the Vikings and you have
a game like the Washington Commanders kind of try to
figure it out, what's the offense?

Speaker 3 (01:22:20):
What do we need to be better at?

Speaker 1 (01:22:21):
For the Lions right now, and that they know they
don't have Saale Reporter, they know that they have to
get creative moving forward for the last seven games of
the season, Like this is a great enough time as
any to put it on display and see how are
we going to make some things happen? Moving down to
stretch that we don't have sel reporter, that we have
some deficiencies at the offensive line.

Speaker 3 (01:22:40):
What are they going to get creative?

Speaker 1 (01:22:41):
It's going to be interesting to see what Dan and
that offense does because this game is pretty much the
first step yep in terms of the rest of the season.
This step gets you to the Green Bay Packers game
for Thanksgiving, which I believe we're gonna win that game.
It gets you to the Dallas Cowboy game, where yeah,
all right, Dallas, this season's over. They're not making and playoff,
but they believe in what they're gonna do next year.

(01:23:02):
So what the Dallas Cowboys they're trying to do is
they're trying to see how good they can be on
offense and on defense to get ready for what next
season is gonna be.

Speaker 3 (01:23:10):
So they're bringing everything.

Speaker 4 (01:23:12):
This is the hard thing about football, man. I Mean
we said this during the week after the blowout winning Washington.
The Minnesota loss sticks with everybody. That's the one where
you saw, oh my gosh, my team's got a weakness
and the Washington victory didn't help you because you knew
what they were without. And then the loss from Minnesota

(01:23:35):
was a leap frog over Washington and a carryover into Philadelphia,
solidifying what your deep concerns were was against the Vikings.
And now it's panic mode for a lot of people.
Brendan did the Caesar sports book read earlier? Do you
believe that Vegas has got a pretty good idea of
what's going on in sports?

Speaker 5 (01:23:56):
Okay?

Speaker 4 (01:23:58):
If I said to you who has the most the
best odds at winning the NFC North, who do you
think it is?

Speaker 5 (01:24:05):
The Lions?

Speaker 4 (01:24:06):
It is the Lions. They are a plus one twenty
green Bay, Green Bays a plus one thirty, The Bears
are a plus three seventy five, and the Vikings are
a plus eight thousand, almost to nine. If I said
to you Vegas, Vegas has the Lions as the third
best to win the NFC, do you understand that that's

(01:24:30):
behind Philly and La.

Speaker 5 (01:24:34):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:24:35):
Okay, Because when we did the top when we did
the top ten yesterday, teams I only had I only
had what two teams? I had the Rams in front
of them, had the Eagles in front correct and the
Seahawks correct.

Speaker 3 (01:24:46):
I believe in my team had three team.

Speaker 5 (01:24:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:24:48):
Yeah, and I'm not saying Lions. I'm not saying the
Lions will lose to the seas So yeah, that's that's it.

Speaker 4 (01:24:54):
Yeah, you're basing it off what you just saw this week,
and it makes a lot of sense. Listen, cool, lad,
I'm with you. I believe in it too, just like
you believed in the Pistons before the season. So but
at some point in order for us to believe, they've
got to show you that they're worth believing in. Okay,
they have done that sporadically so far this year. I

(01:25:18):
think it's really important we live by this man's motto,
and that is who have you beaten and who have
you lost to? Now that changes because if you beat
the Bears tomorrow, it looks better than beating the Bears
in Week two. So I get that it changes. But
we're all looking for some type of conviction to make

(01:25:39):
us believe. And the Lions, I don't know if they
can do it against the Giants. A guarantee you. They
can do it against the Packers on Thanksgiving Day.

Speaker 3 (01:25:47):
They can do it against the law, they can do
it against the Giant. You're absolutely right about that.

Speaker 1 (01:25:50):
They can do it against the Giants, and since that
for whatever, their defense doesn't do well consistently, or they're
you know, they don't play all the time, or you
got some guys being individuals are doing that in the
third when you play against the Giants, this coming Sunday
down the street in Ford Field, those guys know who
they're playing against. Kon Tibodall understands what's on the line
for his personal brand.

Speaker 3 (01:26:10):
Let's just go.

Speaker 1 (01:26:11):
Individuals like Brian Burns, Dexter Lawrence, like all those individuals
understand what a good game against the Detroit Lions where
everybody is watching and what they've become over the last
four years. They're bringing their a game like this won't
be a well, you know, I overslept for a meeting.

Speaker 3 (01:26:27):
This won't be a well, you know what, we're just down.

Speaker 1 (01:26:32):
It won't be that they're going to give them everything,
because the Lions still garnered that respect. Regardless of them
being six and four and maybe taking a dip to
what we believe they were going to be, they still
garner their respect. You better give us your a game.
I mean, hell, Marcus Mariola scored twenty two points like that,
Lets you know it. Means something a little bit more
to these teams, So it would be a good barometer

(01:26:52):
on offense.

Speaker 3 (01:26:53):
I think shep if you go out there.

Speaker 1 (01:26:56):
Like you don't have to dominate the line of scrimmage
against this good defensive line. You have to control the
lion of scrimmage. You have to stand up at the
line of scrimmage. You have to give Jared Goff some
time because as much as we talk about him not
being able to throw outside him having small hands and
all the other things, Look, he missed a lot of
throws out there. Excuse he missed some throws out there.
He's still in the pocket a little bit too long.
Some of his onus is on him. Try to get

(01:27:17):
a man time to block. Just like last night, There's
not too much Josh Allen could do. Some of that
was on him eight sacks.

Speaker 3 (01:27:23):
Like what do you want?

Speaker 1 (01:27:24):
What do you want Josh Allen to do? What did
you want Jared Goff to do? When he absolutely has
no time? You gotta correct that if we can see
him get some time, and then we can see Jared
take that time and now make some plays. Get the ball,
and we understand there's no Sam Laporter and it looked
like something. Then you can take Okay, all right, I
like what I saw. I like what I saw in

(01:27:44):
this game, So you could take somebody this game.

Speaker 4 (01:27:46):
You know what fans are like, though, it can be
very fickle. Sure, So this game is an expected win.
Their favorite, right, their favorite in the next three So
this is an expected win. And you know what the
theme will be. It will be very similar to that
of the Washington Commanders game without Jayden Daniels. You're playing
a rookie quarterback. Their head coach was fired in Mike

(01:28:08):
Keefka is now they're head coach. There's no Molik neighbors,
and Cam Skataboo is closer to getting in the WWE
ring than he is back on the football field. And
that's what's gonna happen.

Speaker 3 (01:28:18):
And what they say.

Speaker 1 (01:28:19):
If the final scored this game is ten to seven
versus the final scored this game is twenty four to ten.

Speaker 3 (01:28:27):
It's different.

Speaker 1 (01:28:28):
Yeah, it's absolutely different because ten to seven, I don't care.
Ten to seven means they didn't scored at many points, right,
I don't care what the defense did.

Speaker 3 (01:28:35):
You scored ten points. How the hell weren't you able
to get up more points?

Speaker 6 (01:28:39):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:28:39):
That means you didn't have That means Jared didn't have
enough time. That means the run game didn't get established.
That means you couldn't get in sync with Amar Ross
Saint Brown again. That means you missed Sam Laport more
than we thought you would miss LAMB Reporter, you can
tell a lot about this game for sure.

Speaker 4 (01:28:52):
Look B Philadelphia had the same complaints when they beat
Green Bay only ten to seven, so they were right.
So those people were frustrated at that as well. When
we come back, this is a really cool moment that
took place, I believe yesterday with a Heisman Trophy hopeful
and I love the football IQ that this young man's

REBT and we're back, dr back. All right, what about
the breaking news, KOOLI.

Speaker 16 (01:35:00):
Breaking news, here you go. Jackson Dart is not going
to start this week. So that's Jameis Winston starting his
second consecutive game before the Giants against the Lions this time.

Speaker 15 (01:35:12):
And it's interesting because dark he has a unique skill set.

Speaker 16 (01:35:15):
Against the Bears, he completed nineteen to twenty nine passes
for two hundred and forty two yards and he rushed
for sixty six yards and two touchdowns. So you know,
it's gonna be interesting to see if the Lions are
actually dodging something here or not because I know Bray
has an interesting take on this one as well.

Speaker 4 (01:35:29):
James, remember Jackson Dart still in concussion protocol yep, Jamison Wilson,
Jameis Winston last week nineteen to twenty nine, two hundred
yards and one pick. What do you think about that?

Speaker 1 (01:35:41):
You know he's gonna throw your pick and he just
comes to the territory with jameson Winston.

Speaker 3 (01:35:44):
But I don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:35:45):
I think I might I might rather play Jackson Dart
in a game like this. I think Jackson Dart no campscattibully,
He's still trying to figure out this offense with no
elite neighbors and no ascending wide receiver, if you will,
still haven't necessarily put a mark on who's the next
running back. I know Tracy has done some things here
and there, but like Jackson dar young guy, I would
rather have seen him with the ruckus, the noise and

(01:36:07):
all that that's gonna bring in a season.

Speaker 3 (01:36:09):
That's pretty much over.

Speaker 1 (01:36:10):
I think you rid on him a couple of times
early in the game and you can get that game
to go in your in your favor. James and Williams,
you just excuse me, James Winston, you just never know
what you're going to get for him, like he's a guy,
he's experienced, he's a vet.

Speaker 3 (01:36:23):
He will throw one of the.

Speaker 1 (01:36:25):
Prettiest passes you've ever seen in your life, followed by
an interception on the one yard line the red zone.

Speaker 3 (01:36:30):
You just never know, Like Forrest Gump said, Forrest, he's.

Speaker 4 (01:36:34):
Also the most entertaining Mike player, but.

Speaker 3 (01:36:38):
He can play.

Speaker 1 (01:36:40):
There's a reason why he went one overall. It's the
reason why he won the highest won the national championship,
went undefeated. All the things he shows you glimpses and
moments of that every year, and I don't want this
to be a situation point where he shows you one
of those things. I'm not scared of Jameis Winston, but
I think that in a situation like this, he's better
suited for the Giants than Jackson Dart.

Speaker 4 (01:37:01):
That's interesting. I would have thought just the opposite, just
because of the escapability and run ability of Jackson Dark.
I noticed something, and I meant to ask you the
mark Jackson, that's true. Thank you, Jack Campbell. Patrick Holmes
did too. I meant to ask you this. When we're
talking about the Lions remainder of their schedule, The common

(01:37:24):
theme is, hey, in the last seven games, six times,
they're gonna be playing indoors, okay, which is convenient for Detroit,
and that's great news, including the next three. Here's the
thing that a lot of people haven't brought up. So
I want your thoughts on this. Who's the next mobile
quote unquote or running quarterback they play.

Speaker 3 (01:37:43):
Kayleb?

Speaker 4 (01:37:44):
Right, that's week.

Speaker 3 (01:37:46):
That's the last week of the season.

Speaker 4 (01:37:48):
Week seventeen is the next time they get a look.
They're all they can move, right, There's a difference between
a run quarterback and a mobile quarterback. These guys are mobile.
But you get in order, you get Jameis Winston. Now
you get Jordan Love, you get Dak Prescott, you get
Matthew Stafford, you get Aaron Rodgers, you get in all

(01:38:11):
likelihood right, Okay, despite the wrist. Okay, he's not having
surgery or anything. But I mean, if it Mason Rudolph,
who cares? You get nine and you get Kayleb Williams.

Speaker 1 (01:38:22):
Jordan Love's deceptive. I'm not telling you to worry about Jordan.
Jordan Love's deceptive. And you'll look up and you get
your first down here, You'll look up and you have
like a random twenty three yards versus on a game.
But to your point, now, there are no run factor
quarterbacks that you're looking at the Scotland reportman like, hey, look,
we gotta be careful and certain.

Speaker 3 (01:38:38):
It's not the case until you get the Kayla so beneficial.

Speaker 4 (01:38:42):
You would think.

Speaker 1 (01:38:44):
I saw something that I said down Jayalen hurts too.
That was another one another run in quarter they did.

Speaker 4 (01:38:49):
You're right, yeah, look, you and I both have said this.
We have no problem with the defense. I think the
defense has been pretty good. I give Kelvin Shephard a
slew of credit because not like not like coaches are
supposed to bitch and moan about who they don't have.
It doesn't do any good because people don't want to
hear it. What he's been able to do with so

(01:39:10):
many backups secondary is one thing. Remember he did it,
and the offensive or defensive line too, because there was
no Ah Lee McNeil, there was no Marcus Davenport. Okay,
here come the arrows boom boom boom whatever. He's been
able to do that with Lopez who's had a career
year reader a rookie, and Williams who's been up and down,

(01:39:30):
and since alle McNeil came back the first game he
was really good. Have you noticed him since? And I
think about this all the time because Braylan tells me
I want to see more from Aiden Hutchinson, and I
get it. The numbers, the pressures are real, but he
wants you to get home. Where's Alee McNeil been, Where's
Tyler Williams bin? I've noticed Lopez, I've noticed Reader, I

(01:39:52):
haven't noticed those other two guys. I'm not saying you
give up on him or the other nighte could players.
I'm just saying we haven't noticed them as much as
I thought we would. That's all, okay. I saw something
that made me think a lot about Brailin when we
talk about the idiosynquencies of football that I think are
spectacular and we don't always are privy to. But Fernando
Mendoza is a Heisman hopeful at IU. He's a quarterback

(01:40:15):
who is second in the country in touchdowns. He's big,
he's got a decent arm. From what I can tell,
he can make all the throws. He leads comebacks, he's
a winner, he's smart, all the stuff. Listen to his
interview on a podcast with FS one, including Urban Meyer,
explain that final touchdown against Penn State in the back

(01:40:40):
of the end zone where Omar Cooper Junior made one
of the greatest catches you'll see at the collegiate level.
Listen to the detail and what he's thinking about. I
can't wait to get Braylan's thoughts on this. Go ahead, Yeah, Ben.

Speaker 18 (01:40:53):
They play it kind of like their two joker structure
where it's a little similar, and they have this middle
state safety who is really reading off the quarterback size
and really playing off that speed.

Speaker 3 (01:41:04):
And so we had speed of the field.

Speaker 18 (01:41:06):
There were number three Omar Cooper Junior, who made a
fantastic catch, and so when I caught. When I caught
the ball, I looked over there and I saw his
hips turn, his hips and eyes turned to that point,
all I knew I needed to just beat that boundary
curl defender and beat that boundary safety. And once I
saw a safety go over the top to the outside
receiver defending the whole shot, I just knew that I
needed to put some arc and layer on it over

(01:41:27):
the hook defense. After that that kind of like the
hook curl defender in order to make that compleation because
I knew the other guy, the joker, had his hips
to the speed right.

Speaker 4 (01:41:38):
Now, hold on, look at you, Look at you.

Speaker 5 (01:41:41):
This is what I'm saying. Look at you.

Speaker 4 (01:41:44):
This is as intense and happier in years. So it's
mark Ingram. Obviously, it's the f S Crew, and and
Urban Meyer is talking about that. Not a huge Urban
Meyer fan. He's a hell of a college coach. You
can't deny that. But you saw how excited he got
when this guy's talking about very things that quarterbacks have
to do. It's a great example of what you've reminded

(01:42:04):
us on a regular basis about the game of football
and how we just don't see everything. He's reading a
cornerback's hips and then trying to judge the arc of
a pass because of where that safety is located. It's
more than just hey, you know what, this is what
they're playing. I'm gonna throw it to this place and
my guy's gonna go get it. This was very specific.

(01:42:26):
I thought it was pretty cool.

Speaker 1 (01:42:27):
Yeah, well, this does and I appreciate that he was
able to get on this podcast and share this information
because of what it does is it takes away that
he got lucky, yes, because how many people watch that
play at the end and was like, yo, man, he
just threw the ball up there, and he was praying,
he was hoping something happen in his Receiverbility Mound made
a hell of a catch, and that's not exactly what
it was. He made a hell of a play. But
the quarterback knew exactly what he was gonna do if

(01:42:47):
this situation presented itself.

Speaker 3 (01:42:48):
He saw what he saw, saw what he wanted.

Speaker 1 (01:42:50):
And he legitimately put the ball where he thought was
the only possible spot. And it was because if that
ball is a little bit higher, then that ball's e
ends on. That ball is a little bit lower than
it's getting knocked down. He put this ball in a
wonderful spot. But you see Urban get excited. Urban hasn't
had so many quarterbacks that know how to have this conversation,
if we're being honest, A lot of his a lot
of his.

Speaker 3 (01:43:09):
Quarterbacks, his athletes throw the ball or r po. Yeah,
he's only.

Speaker 1 (01:43:12):
Had a couple of quarterbacks that could actually die down
to play like that, explaining and actually put the ball
in that spot.

Speaker 3 (01:43:18):
That's why he got excited.

Speaker 4 (01:43:19):
What do you think the knock is on Fernando Mendoza.

Speaker 3 (01:43:23):
Where did he play before here?

Speaker 4 (01:43:25):
James? Was it James Madison? Was he James Madison?

Speaker 1 (01:43:28):
I'm not sure it is James, because that's all the
guys came up with.

Speaker 3 (01:43:37):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:43:38):
Do they look at Indiana as Indiana bears he was?
That's right, because they had a quarterback before him that
did the same thing.

Speaker 4 (01:43:47):
Uh, he's kind of dorky. That's a knockout.

Speaker 6 (01:43:51):
That's yeah.

Speaker 17 (01:43:51):
I think his name he plays it Indiana.

Speaker 3 (01:43:54):
I'll tell you, yeah, he's yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:43:57):
I tell you if that's the knock you well, if
he's dogget I mean he's in that book.

Speaker 3 (01:44:02):
Yeah, that means he's in NFIL.

Speaker 1 (01:44:03):
That means he's going to be able to get exactly
out of this offense what it's supposed to get out
of it. But I don't know it's that twenty twenty
five is n Cuba today?

Speaker 5 (01:44:14):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:44:14):
Am I buying Fernando Medoz in the NFL? If I
don't buy him, who else is there to buy?

Speaker 4 (01:44:19):
I'm not buying any of these quarterbacks, to be honest
with him, I'm dead honest. But I didn't believe in
that that lot last year year and when I say
buy in, I'm saying as in a first round pick.
We're gonna do picks when we come back. You guys
want to do picks because we have the mailbag coming
up to let's take a quick time out. We'll do
NFL picks and we'll do the mailbag here on the

Speaker 5 (01:46:02):
Be honest?

Speaker 4 (01:46:03):
Who did you picked last night?

Speaker 3 (01:46:06):
I told you you're gonna lose.

Speaker 5 (01:46:06):
I know you did.

Speaker 4 (01:46:08):
That's why I'm asking it. Text Brendan and Cooley. I
picked Houston originally, and I changed it at the last
minute and I took Buffalo. So okay, good, I've got
to pick the Buffalo. You picked Buffalo, right, all right?
All right, here we go, Here we go. Ready, Pittsburgh

(01:46:30):
is at Chicago Brailer Chicago. These are not surprises. Every Friday,
we do picks.

Speaker 5 (01:46:40):
Go ahead, and we do this in my home.

Speaker 4 (01:46:43):
You know, we make our family picks every single pick.
My wife always wants to go first because she does
want to be influenced, and then she takes three minutes
to make the pick. Just make the pick, honey. It's okay.

Speaker 15 (01:46:52):
It's tough for me to say Chicago.

Speaker 4 (01:46:54):
Okay, so you got Chica. We all got Chicago, right, Okay.

Speaker 1 (01:46:57):
It'll be Chicago. Aaron Roders probably won't play as traction
in his left hand. He probably won't play he's trying
to play Mason Rudolf becomes a quarterback. There's a whole
thing right now in Pittsburgh News whatever their paper is
called about the dk metcalf being a waste of thirty
three million dollars. So congratulations, we knew that going into it,
but you did. So now you're gonna have a quarterback

(01:47:17):
that doesn't start, and he just got these articles that we're.

Speaker 3 (01:47:21):
Wasting in thirty three million dollars.

Speaker 1 (01:47:23):
Insert they're going to force the ball to my fantasy receive.
I appreciate that, but Chicago's gonna know what's happens.

Speaker 4 (01:47:28):
It's not a good mix, and I agree with that
all right quickly, New England at Cincinnati, kole a New England,
Same Patriots, yep. I don't know how is Joe Kulu?
They say he's getting closer to me. It wouldn't matter
unless he can played defense. Okay, everybody taking Alliance, I
think that's a fair assumption. Okay, everybody taking the Packers

(01:47:49):
hosting Minnesota, Oh man, that's how are you serious?

Speaker 1 (01:47:55):
Often like Josh Jacobs is hurt, banged up, that's their
next bats player.

Speaker 3 (01:48:01):
He's banged up.

Speaker 1 (01:48:02):
They're key and focusing in on that. That defense of
Brian Flores. It's still okay, go ahead, Minnesota, Okay.

Speaker 15 (01:48:09):
I'm taking the Vikings that discombobulated the line.

Speaker 4 (01:48:11):
Wow, you're taking all right?

Speaker 5 (01:48:15):
Wow?

Speaker 4 (01:48:16):
Was that dead wrong? I'm taking Green Bay.

Speaker 8 (01:48:18):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (01:48:18):
Seattle is at Tennessee, Brandan Seattle, Seattle for sure. Okay,
Indy is at Kansas City.

Speaker 3 (01:48:28):
This is interesting.

Speaker 1 (01:48:29):
This is this, This is truly the last game for
the Kansas City Chiefs. If they lose this, when it
is completely over, I think it may be over now,
but last ditch effort Super Bowl, Super Bowl, my homes
the Colts. I think the Coats are gonna put the
hammer down. I think it's a blowout.

Speaker 4 (01:48:47):
Wow, Okay, it's over. Okay, I got I got the
Colts as well. Kansas City thriving one score game. Well

Speaker 4 (01:49:08):
Ravens Baltimore, Baltimore.

Speaker 3 (01:49:10):
I think it's the return of like the big Lamar
Jackson stat line.

Speaker 4 (01:49:13):
Okay, all right.

Speaker 1 (01:49:15):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (01:49:15):
Brendan Cleveland's at Vegas in the Stink It Up Bowl.
Jesus Brown's Browns. Wow, I'm gonna take Vegas.

Speaker 3 (01:49:24):
Now, Ason Jency in the backfield.

Speaker 4 (01:49:27):
You got Cleveland.

Speaker 3 (01:49:28):

Speaker 5 (01:49:30):

Speaker 2 (01:49:31):

Speaker 3 (01:49:31):

Speaker 17 (01:49:32):

Speaker 4 (01:49:32):
Three? Three Browns one Raiders. Jacksonville's at Arizona. I just
do not buy Jacksonville at all. I'm taking the Cardinals.

Speaker 3 (01:49:42):

Speaker 1 (01:49:45):
Barrin is still healthy. I saw some of heim May

Speaker 4 (01:50:21):
Brendan Tampa is at Los Angeles. As in the Rams.

Speaker 17 (01:50:26):
That's a tough one. I think the Rams will squeak
it out.

Speaker 4 (01:50:29):
I don't think it's tough. I think Matthew Stafford's gonna
throw for at least four touchdowns. I think they're gonna
run up and down on the field down Tampa can't
stop anybody.

Speaker 3 (01:50:36):
I'm gonna take the Rams. Okay.

Speaker 4 (01:50:38):
Lastly, Monday night football, Carolina is at San Francisco. Caroline
has been a really good story. San Francisco is getting healthy.
As you mentioned, I love Robert Salid what he's done
with the defense. I think San Francisco needs it. I'm
gonna take the Niners.

Speaker 3 (01:50:52):
I'm gonna take the Panthers. I'm gonna take the Panthers.

Speaker 4 (01:50:56):
Gets that look in his face that you can tell
it's almost like you know he got you the surprise
Christmas gift he was getting.

Speaker 1 (01:51:02):
I just saw the I saw a clip on social
with Ricodell Rico Donald.

Speaker 3 (01:51:07):
Excuse rical dondod you know ezactly what I'm talking about.

Speaker 1 (01:51:10):
He legitimately was telling the coaches, telling the players, telling everybody.
He said, Hey, this player is gonna work scree if
we get the first down, and he kept probably he said, look,
if we get the first down, called the screen, and
finally he was able to get my former assistant wide
receiver's attention in Dave Canelos got his attention. They run
the play, he scores and you can see him in the
end zone like let's go. I told you stuff like that,

(01:51:31):
like they're they're going in the right direction.

Speaker 3 (01:51:34):
Okay, they got a couple, they're going the right direction.

Speaker 4 (01:51:36):
I saw some video two of the Eagles on their bench,
especially Smith going Jared Goff don't like that cold. He
don't like that cold. Okay, what do you got kool aid?
Who do you got? Carolina at San Francisco? Who goes
San fran Okay, yeah, san Francisco. A right, let's hit
that mail back fire away baby.

Speaker 6 (01:51:54):
Hey definitely.

Speaker 16 (01:51:55):
Freddy felt he's number two in the chat two dollars
super Chat. He says, Pineapples serves smoothie equals the goat
like Brion Chep.

Speaker 4 (01:52:06):
I'll have to try that.

Speaker 3 (01:52:09):
Was he here when we asked movie kame No.

Speaker 4 (01:52:13):
Next time he comes, we'll make sure we make it.

Speaker 6 (01:52:16):
You know what.

Speaker 16 (01:52:16):
Uh, Dante won five to one four and I super
Chat number one crown today. We might have to get
to this tomorrow, but he says tomorrow is Saturday, Monday,
or maybe two twoday.

Speaker 6 (01:52:28):
There you go.

Speaker 16 (01:52:29):
He says, what do you guys thoughts on that corn ball?
Gilbert Areena saying that Nike has their agenda and they
want Kate in a marketable town and not in Detroit.

Speaker 4 (01:52:38):
Yeah, so spendy talk about this. First of all, if
the NBA allows something like that, it's a joke. I
don't think that will happen, Okay. I know Nike's got
a lot of poll Kate Cunningham is Detroit. You could
put his long time ago. They had two huge murals Detroit,

(01:52:58):
Barry Sanders and.

Speaker 3 (01:52:59):
Seab and both represented by Nike.

Speaker 4 (01:53:04):
Caid Cunningham is headed that way. I'm not saying he's
there now. He's headed that way, Okay. I don't think
he leaves this town. I think Tom Gorez understands that.
There's no question trades in Langdon understands that, and I
think Caid Cunningham genuinely likes it, and he loves the
way this team is playing, and that this team plays
around him, and he does what he wants, you know,

(01:53:26):
within reason. I don't think that happens. I think that's
that's a guy blowing hot air. Gilbert Reinas a lot
of hot.

Speaker 16 (01:53:32):
Air, and you read between the lines and shout out
the Kaid's agency and somebody interesting all the way up
on the top of our.

Speaker 15 (01:53:39):
Front office there. So I don't think he's going.

Speaker 1 (01:53:41):
To be also the end of the day, I think
a lot of individuals, a lot of aren't from this
city or don't understand what the city is doing. And
if you're not from this city, you look at what
you heard ten years ago, five years ago during COVID
twenty thirty and the eighties burning in the fires, you
think that's what Detroit is. But they don't have those
corporate connections to understand all the corporations as are coming here.
When you start to see big business in a metropolitan area,

(01:54:03):
that means they know what's coming behind it. So the
fact that we see what downtown is looking with the
Hudson Project and a lot of the Googles and the
brand's Apple is opening a new store. In fact, the
store the Apple is opening, they only have one up
in the country right now.

Speaker 3 (01:54:16):
Where has that bar that lounge area.

Speaker 1 (01:54:18):
It's coming downtown in twenty twenty six, I want to say,
the end of twenty six. The fact that this is
going on, Kate ain't going nowhere. Nike understands that this
is Detroit and there's a lot of big business and former.

Speaker 16 (01:54:28):
Jordan brand executive Melanie Harris is the business president of
Business Operation.

Speaker 4 (01:54:34):
