Speaker 1 (00:00):
And it's been hard on him, trust me when I
tell you that. But my point was he must have
I don't know. He's got hundreds of Spotify playlists and
a number of his playoffs, even though it's rock and roll,
even though it's heavy stuff. For the most part, he
he's got a lot of Motown. No, yeah, absolutely, Now

(00:22):
is his music influenced by that, No, It's probably more
influenced by Foo Fighters, Green Day, things like that. But
the motown part, he'll be listening to that on a
regular basis because he loves it, you know, And as
a musician, he loves the rhythm, he loves the harmony,
he loves the music element of it. Like you listen
to motown. I get why some people don't like certain

(00:45):
types of music that I have because it's a lot
screaming and heavy guitars or rap, same thing where it
sounds angry. Right there, what Ryan just said. He likes
to listen to music that makes me happy. When I
hear that music that you play, I get a I
can feel the smile. It's like a dog winning down
getting pet. You can see the smile on the face.
Kind of evolved.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
Here's my thoughts to that I believe because Motown mastered
they were. They mastered real instruments, laying down real instruments
on track. Like the infamous band I know, my mom's mad.
I can't think of the name right now. The infamous
in house band of most Brothers, the Funk Brothers.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
Come on, Ryan, come on, come with it, Ryan.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
The Funk Brothers.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
If you combine Taylor Swift, Michael, if you can, Funk
Brothers have more number ones than like all the Beatles,
or even the Beatles Taylor Swift. I gotta get the
exactness all their number one hits. The Funk Brothers still
have more number one hits.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Than the Beatles in terms of the albums that they've played.
They played.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
They may not be the headline.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
They're not just players when they cheating, but it's cheating,
but we're not. We're not trying to say that the basket
of all time, just saying what they did. When you
lay down those arrangements, when you're hearing horns, when you're
hearing the guitars, when you're hearing the pianos, when you're
hearing the chimes, the symbols, like this is real instrumentation music.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
It's music.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
It's it's frequency. If you tap into the right frequency,
it takes the mind, it takes the spirit to a
certain place. And now you laying down some sound on
top of that, you have this frequency that's already done
his job right And now here comes David Ruffman layer
to that. Here comes Michael Jackson talking about.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
Just said that in the chat. Let me add another
layer to it. It's not just the music and the
sound and the lyrics. It's the movements that they have
on stage or in their videos. It's just the smooth
how good they look, and how now.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
That there's another in house group, another in house the
choreography guy can't think of his name.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
Right, So so you're forgetting a lot. You're getting older.
My dad, you say this all the time. Look at
how they move, He's look at me. That's dancing, right,
There is dancing. When you can see the Temptations move
together and have that rhythm, that is what music is
all about.

Speaker 4 (02:59):
Love.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
But last thing I would say about that, you're absolutely right,
but that comes from Barry Gordy. Yes, Barry Gordy, but
wanting to make sure all my groups, regardless of what
was going on behind the scenes, to make sure all
my groups have proper etiquette, Like he sent all his
female groups proper etiquette classes, choreography classes like functionality, structure,

(03:20):
how to walk, how to do that, those classes. His
male artists, they had to be in shape at least
when they were in the studio, Like, this is what
he professed. So he was a he was a stickler
for perfection. That's what it's supposed to be. Like, So
when you have this guy like just whipping everybody into
shape and then you have these arrangements in these things,
it's going to be perfection. So when we're hearing the

(03:42):
finished product, like this is amazing, we don't know what
it took to get from signing to this album, right.
A lot went into that, but I'm saying it was
structured structure like that anymore.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
Yeah, you're right, its structured like that, and it's so cool.
I don't think enough is made of it personally, Like
we got the Motel music. It's great, huh. I was
just gonna say, yeah, I wish it was a little
bit bigger, And sure it gets shown as a scenic
on TV for games and stuff, but I'd like to
see a little bit more of that. Quite Honestly, what

(04:15):
I think is awesome about Detroit is that it can
be viewed as not just motown music, but it can
be viewed as you know, Eminem has made it quite
famous with with rap and there there's a lot of
rock and roll bands and rock and roll acts out
of Detroit or Metro Detroit that say the same thing. Okay,

(04:35):
whether it be Ted NuGen uh be Bob Sieger, all
you know, all these guys are just you know, Alice Cooper,
bad ass rock and rollers, right, good Golfer two. So
all that stuff is the diversity of our city, but
the diversity of our musical background and something that connects
us all.

Speaker 5 (04:54):
I even got a stand up for the diversity and
owning the faith based music as well. The gods We'll
see Detroit. It's been at the top of the Franklin
the most family. My uncle is a part to Take six,
one of the most Grammy decorated groups in the history
of vocal arrangements and such like.

Speaker 6 (05:16):
Detroit has it all.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
Man, that's so cool. Let's put that in a book.
Can we put that in a book? Let's do a
book about something like or let's do a documentary about
that there's a documentary about the the vast musical history
that this city possesses. Why wouldn't we do something like that.
Go ahead, get your camera and we'll start doing it tomorrow. Okay,

(05:37):
all right.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
What I was gonna say was the Funk Brothers they
have more number one hits than combined Elvis Presley, the Beatles,
the Beach Boys.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
And the Rolling Stones. That's what they have, more numbers.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
They but but they've played. That's that's a little misleading there.
You gotta be killed.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
No, no, no, no no.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
I am a stickler for Verba. I can be a stickler.
They have played on more number ones.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
Don't say that they.

Speaker 6 (05:59):
Have them played.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
Yeah, but they have more than all those combined, which
I think is the most impressive.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
That's an important part of it. That's all I'm saying. Okay,
I'm not being a douchebag about it. I'm just saying,
you've got that something that's really important. I just I
love the diversity. I'm glad you brought up the gospel
aspect of it. It's fun. It's fun when we come
in here. I don't know what were you playing. A
little bit ago. We started all these different songs are
playing playing through my mind.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
Teddy Peg, you're Elvis fan?

Speaker 1 (06:27):
Uh, honestly not really.

Speaker 7 (06:30):
I like the movie.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
I'm trying to think, did I see that movie? I
don't think it was weird.

Speaker 7 (06:36):
It was weird.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
I knew he saw its a weird movie.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
It was fast paced, it was intense thing and almost
was like did I who played Elvis? I can't think
of his name. He's a young guy today started me.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
I think I did see it.

Speaker 7 (06:48):
I was the manager.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
He did a great job of being because I heard
that guy was a real piece of work. He was
like and that he portrayed that well how he took advantage.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
Of I think I did see it. I saw the
any Cash movie too.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
To Joaquin Phoenix, Yeah, is it?

Speaker 1 (07:05):
Is it fair to say if if Detroit has a
music resume and we've checked off gospel, and we've checked
checked off motown, and we've checked off rap, and we've
checked off rock and slash, eavy metal, of yeah, the
country might be missing? Am I am I missing something there?
Who am I thinking of that? It should be a

(07:26):
country artist Uncle Cracker. I mean he's on some but
I don't say I don't think he's a I don't
think he's a country artist, uh kid rocket Well, he
that's just music. He's a great musician. It's a great musician.
I don't know what what genre he knows.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
He's to be honest, like, he just has a sound
where he has he can. I don't say still still
is the wrong word, but he can use a lot
of different genres because of his sound, he can appeal
to different music. That's the nicest thing I can say about.

Speaker 8 (07:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
Yeah, I've met her a couple of times. I think
he's fabulously talented, incredibly talented.

Speaker 5 (08:04):
I was also gonna say with the music scene to
shout out to the hip hop legends. They come here
every single year. And I know my ki Extein just
brought my guys out to Grandmaster Flash and the FEWUS
five amongst others.

Speaker 6 (08:16):
I used to do like a lot of work.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
They come here every year.

Speaker 2 (08:19):
Yeah, every the originators yea.

Speaker 1 (08:22):
And where are they playing?

Speaker 2 (08:23):
Man Downtown?

Speaker 6 (08:26):
And they were, they were here.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
They were at.

Speaker 6 (08:31):
The Rich Carlton in downtown, Okay.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
Got to sweep there.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
As well.

Speaker 5 (08:37):
I was surprised that they were packed. DMC was out
here as well. Iced Tea was out here. It is
a pretty good event. But they love Detroit, they said
some of their best shows. That's so cool, I'll say that.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
And this goes along with maybe music in terms of
motown kind of really creating the blueprint originally. Never be
surprised by the outcome at a music concert, effect anything
in the Metropolitana and Detroit. This is one of the
few places in the country that will turn up for
any artists, any concert. As long as you coming with

(09:09):
that energy, this place will turn up and show out,
and you'll see tons of artists when they get to
the stage, whether it's at the beginning or whether it's
at the end. I went to a Maxwell concert with
my parents this past summer, and legitimately Maxwell spent the
first twenty minutes talking about his very first time coming
out here and how Detroit was one of the cities
that clamored for him on the radio when he did

(09:30):
his first show here twenty years ago. He said, it
was just an amazing welcome and you brought me back.
I've been back here. I forgot how many times, he said,
But there's so many times.

Speaker 1 (09:38):
Is that the one you went to last summer?

Speaker 2 (09:39):
I went to a couple But yeah, this past summer.
But every artist they come up on that stage, either
in the beginning, either in the middle, or in the end,
and they just profess what Detroit has been to them
on their journey. Detroit's one of those cities and it
always has. Why do you think that is motown? Because
this is probably one of the first places where you
can just come see everybody, and the concerts were great

(10:00):
and the energy was great, So then people remember that,
and then labels remembered that, and managers remembered that. So
it's like, no, we have to go by Detroit. We
gotta go by Joe Lewis, we gotta go back Cohall,
we have to go by the Palace, the Piniac, Silverdome,
pineab now LCA, we have to be at the Aretha
aka Shane Park because Detroit.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
You like that place.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
I love it because this is one of the one
things that.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
I remembered him going there last year. He was just like, man,
I can't wait to go, and he's talking about the
traffic and also things.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
Has never been a negative about the city of Detroit's music, Yeah,
there's never been a negative count taste. I agree about
Detroit as it relates to music. So I love it.

Speaker 1 (10:36):
Yeah, I think it's that's a great description of it.
I think it's so cool. Yeah, I think it's so
cool that we can have that conversation about the city.
It's something that we should probably brag more about. Like
we talk a lot about our sports, and we talk
about a lot of our sports athletes. Like when you're
at an event, when you're at the Pistons game, you
were at the Amps Gape, people are like, oh, there's

(10:57):
bretlinn Evers. Nothing wrong with that, right, I mean, our
athletes are our stars. When you go to Los Angeles
and you are to the Staples Center, Hey there's fill
in the blank, whoever the hell that is right? We
don't need that. Our stars are our athletes.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
But Baker, like when the Pistols were doing their run,
who do we highlight that? True, that's true Baker when
he was still a live guy. Rest her So Stevie
Wonder when he comes in town, we literally like, you
know he's from you know, it's on town. Is like
and kid Rock to your point, Eminem to your point.
We highlight our musicians for sure.

Speaker 1 (11:33):
Anita Baker beautiful one.

Speaker 5 (11:34):
That's what makes Bradley unique because he's one of our
homegrown stars who came up on our homegrown music as well.

Speaker 6 (11:40):
I think that when you talk about covering it, it
hits a little bit different.

Speaker 1 (11:43):
That's a good point. A guy like him, Yeah, the music,
I think that's a great point. He's not a transplant
who suddenly fell in love with the music. He's he's
he's real who grew up with the music and can
speak intelligently about all of it, like he could spin records.
He could be at a different station. What's that?

Speaker 2 (12:01):
I used to j oh, did you did?

Speaker 1 (12:03):
Okay?

Speaker 2 (12:04):
One of Big Sean's first shows that he did, like
kind of in a space here. I had him out
to one of my events, did you He's a good guy.
He's a great guy, great guy, cares about the city,
cares about Detroit, puts it on his back always, even
he lives in LA which I definitely have no problem with.
But when his first show you what I Want, that's

(12:24):
a great name. Now, DJ Bry, I like that was
easy to be easy back in the day, but.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
DJ to make money off that.

Speaker 6 (12:31):
I was what was this college?

Speaker 7 (12:34):
No, this was this was the league.

Speaker 2 (12:36):
This was an NFL, So I would't necessary seeking the cast.

Speaker 1 (12:39):
But I made it just because, Yeah, it's just because
something you wanted to do.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
I was like, just take that massive drinks or something
that's really cool.

Speaker 9 (12:48):
I like that times.

Speaker 1 (12:50):
Yeah, that's good stuff. I'm glad you brought up Anita
Baker because God.

Speaker 2 (12:54):
What I saw her a couple of years ago when
she came back.

Speaker 1 (12:59):
Good Man, good good musical. We didn't expect to start
the show this way, but this is it was. It
was a fun way.

Speaker 2 (13:05):
It's just in a different way.

Speaker 1 (13:06):
It just made me think. When I was listening to
your to your music, I'm like, yeah, this is this
is really smooth. We're gonna get into a lot of
football today.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
I forgot what we were here for.

Speaker 1 (13:15):
Yeah, I did too, for a moment.

Speaker 10 (13:17):
We did a whole music show.

Speaker 1 (13:19):
I do. I do enjoy talking music. I actually enjoy
talking with you guys about music because you you teach
me some things. I learned some things about it. I've
got a lane and the lane needs to widen, all right.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
But you're here for it and that I appreciate.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
Yeah, so get getting that done and uh and and
hopefully I'll tap into that as we move forward, you know,
and who knows, I may surprise you coming up. Nothing
like a good in nothing like a good tap in course. Yesterday,
I wanted to uh, yesterday, I wanted to get to
the quarterback discussion with Braylan. Didn't have time to do

(13:54):
that because we had some really good football discussion all
the way up until the mailbag. We will dive into
that when we come back. Also, was looking for some
support from this crew during a text chain. Did not
get it. That's next on the Brillan Edwards Show. After
we hear this from Martin Jakes and Ben Johnson, who's
always there to support you.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
Yeah, sorry, I didn't support you. But Vin Johnson is
corporates the government. If you are insurance company, we'll do
whatever it takes to minimize their liability and will hold
your conversation. Don't let them do that. And the way
you do that is you contact Ben Johnson Law. And
how you do that is then fights dot Com. Ve
n is the name. When something goes wrong, make him
your first call. He and his team they'll get you

(14:38):
everything you need. And the cool thing about him is
it doesn't matter if it's say a settlement or verdi.
They're here for all the smoke. So let them be
the very first person you contact. Then fights dot Com
rtin Jakes.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
People in the shed have said Ryan's an old soul.
That's good because the body said, that's a great thing. Yeah,
I'll tell you what else.

Speaker 7 (14:57):
I'll take it.

Speaker 1 (14:58):
You should take it. And it's it's a beautiful thing
to have. It's a beautiful thing to be going to
Art and Jakes and watch your favorite sporting event. They've
got six locations throughout the state of Michigan, and they've
got wall to wall coverage over eighty tds, twenty two

fan favorites like wings and Raps and signature Fairway Burgers,
specials like it's Wednesday, right, so it's Fahida's and Margarita's Wednesdays.

(15:23):
Go watch the Pistons kick the crap out of the bulls,
Enjoy some Fijidas, have a few Margarita's, don't drink and
drive and enjoy At Art and Jake's. The fan club

And the an Aposta salad we drizzle it over the
same with our hand battered chicken tenders, original recipe soups

very nice.

But we are back.

Speaker 1 (20:55):
We've got some breaking news. The fun thing about this
the show, we get to brekke a lot of news.
So I want how do we want to do this?
Can we give Let's give the Lions news first. Kool
Aid's got the breaking news. Not that this is breaking,
but Jamiir Gibbs has been named NFC Offensive Player of
the Week. It's not a surprise, right, but he joins
Barry Sanders, according to the Lions pr as the only

(21:18):
Lions running back to win the award multiple times.

Speaker 2 (21:22):
I think this is third time and that crazy third
or fourth time. He deserves a win to look, man,
they were looking for Jamiir Gibbs. The season that he
had last year. He left you like wanting more. They
left you saying that this guy is going to take
that next step. They're featuring him as RB one. Start
off a little bit slow, but the last two of
the last three games he's figured it out. The Tampa
Bay Buccaneers game and this game. This is a really
good sign at this point in the season, especially going

(21:44):
into this game against Philly. So congratulates him. Three touchdowns
and one hundred and seventy eight yards of total offense.

Speaker 1 (21:50):
If I am not mistake, can I give you a curveball?

Speaker 2 (21:53):
Throw it to him?

Speaker 1 (21:56):
How would you use him most effectively if you were
the offensive coordinator. If you were calling plays, how would
you use him to best suit him?

Speaker 2 (22:08):
Do you think stretch zone screens and then screens that
become decoy passes down the field one, that's how he
using stretch zone screens and then decoy screens get the
ball down the field to Jamo, amar Ra, Saint Moron
or insert tight end wide receiver there. I think that's
where he's most effective. Whenever he stretches to the side
and you give him, you give him two way goes.

Speaker 1 (22:30):
He can go.

Speaker 2 (22:30):
Inside, he can get to the outside, or be creative.
That's when he's in his bag. As they say, he
has really, really, really good hands. I would dare say,
I would just say great for a running back, like
that's what I would do most well.

Speaker 1 (22:42):
Or earlier this year, folks, in case you don't join
us on Thursdays, please start join us on Thursdays because
it's Braylin's breakdown. But when Detroit had played Chicago, Braylan
broke down a specific play where Sewell and Ratledge were
on the right side almost comboing, and then Ratledge left,
moved up field and Jamior Gibbs go back and look

(23:02):
at it. Jamior Gibbs could have gone to the outside,
Braylin' said, or could have gone to the inside. That's
I think that's what you're referring to, right, Okay, good good, Yeah.
One against Washington. In addition to that, he had another
thirty yards receiving I believe.

Speaker 14 (23:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (23:16):
Uh and then Tampa one hundred and thirty six yards
and eighty two yards receiving two. Really impressive.

Speaker 2 (23:22):
It's four hundred yards to the office in two games.
Throwing that out there.

Speaker 1 (23:25):
You'll take that, right, you'll take that.

Speaker 2 (23:28):
Oh, by the way, five touchdowns, thank you.

Speaker 1 (23:32):
That's what it's about. You got to get past the
goal line. And that's what he did. All right, breaking news.
Now Ryan needs to control his laughter and his smiles
and his giggles.

Speaker 6 (23:42):
Oh you know what, we almost need to Ryan you
today you have the honors.

Speaker 1 (23:46):
Okay, you're gonna give it to Ryan.

Speaker 3 (23:50):
Michigan State, little brow say doing little brow.

Speaker 2 (23:53):
So Michigan State.

Speaker 3 (23:53):
There's a couple of takes we got we gotta get going. Uh.

Speaker 2 (23:56):
So they provide why is Michigan State relevant today?

Speaker 1 (23:59):
This has to beet So.

Speaker 3 (24:00):
This goes back to mel Tucker played what he played
three ineligible players during his time so coming, so literally
and figuratively, from twenty twenty two to twenty twenty four,
they have to vacate all fourteen wins. So there's that
Mel Tucker has a three year show cause, and then

(24:21):
a couple of assistants have five year and six year
show causes a couple of recruiting violations as well. Now
Michigan State is on probation for three years and a
thirty thousand dollars fine.

Speaker 2 (24:32):
Mel Tucker, the gift that keeps on giving. I want
to know about that twenty twenty one season.

Speaker 5 (24:36):
Well, what do you mean to tell me that this
was a bigger hammer dropped on Michigan State than Indy
at all?

Speaker 1 (24:42):
I'll be honest with you. I don't think it matters, Bears.
I mean, you can giggle all you want.

Speaker 2 (24:48):
Fourteen wins don't do anything for their program.

Speaker 1 (24:50):
No, I'm serious. I mean didn't do anything for their program.
You're one hundred percent right. They probably they told they
told people to take away wins by the fab five.
Did they them away? Did you? Did you recognize it
or did you still think they went to certain things?

Speaker 2 (25:04):
I did in the rafters was pretty empty up there.

Speaker 1 (25:07):
It's pretty bleak, well for them, but there's there's pretty
good guys up on the rafters. Now there's true, there's
there's there's plenty of there. There would have been final
four appearances for the for the Fab five, okay, three.

Speaker 2 (25:22):
Back to back, two right?

Speaker 1 (25:24):
No Big Ten titles, no championships, okay whatever, Okay, maybe
somebody's jersey should have been retired. Well I would think yeah,
probably too Jalen and Chris Webber. I would think, well,
we can debate that. Trey Burks is up there. I've
always felt the Fab five, this is my personal opinion, overrated.

(25:45):
You know, the best team in Michigan history is nineteen
eighty nine. They won the national championship. They did what
they were supposed to do. Fab five did not. But
my point is you don't look at those as not
being part of Michigan basketball lore. I don't think this.
Louisville supposedly was supposed to surrender the national championship in

(26:06):
twenty thirteen, who's the national champion?

Speaker 3 (26:08):
Well, it's Louisville.

Speaker 2 (26:10):
I mean, I don't credit miss Michigan. They still lost
the team.

Speaker 1 (26:15):
By the block on Peyton c exactly about that, I
don't care I don't care about that up with Trey Burke.
Just just go back and listen to my call of that.

Speaker 2 (26:24):
And there was and there was two three points that
we made with blatant fouls. Both would have been ones.
We didn't get that.

Speaker 1 (26:30):
All the highlights are, all the highlights are CBS, and
I get that. But listen to my call of that
and you'll you'll understand my feelings on that block. Yeah, okay,
you said the.

Speaker 2 (26:39):
Fat faves overrated.

Speaker 3 (26:41):
I agree with sheep.

Speaker 1 (26:42):
Hold on, you call no no, no, no No'm Michigan
basketball for fifteen years.

Speaker 2 (26:46):
I don't have a thank you. I don't have a
problem I don't have a problem with you saying they
didn't win anything. But when you're talking about five freshmen
going to the championship two years in the row, they
were freshman, then they were sophomore, and he went back
to back and got there, and they played with against
too the greatest teams at that era, I wouldn't say overrated.
I would say they talk about it maybe a little
too much for that one.

Speaker 1 (27:04):
That's a better way. If they're not overrated, that's a
better way to put it.

Speaker 2 (27:07):
But I see what you're saying and there. I agree
with some of that.

Speaker 1 (27:09):
I totally agree. Yeah, so misphrased on my part, I'm
a stickler for words. Your words are better than mine,
you know.

Speaker 2 (27:15):
Jaalen Man, That's why I got part of my name
from him.

Speaker 1 (27:17):
Hold up now, I mean, yeah, we can and we
can be friends with it. We can be friends with guys.
I like Jalen too, and I admire Jimmy King's a
friend of mine. I wire what those guys did I do?
All I'm saying when anytime people talk about Michigan basketball,
it's like, oh, the Fab five, you know, great with
the black socks and the baggy shorts. I'm like, what
about nineteen eighty nine because they won the national championship.

(27:39):
Trey Burke led his guys to a national championship, and.

Speaker 2 (27:42):
They talk about them just like they right, we'll.

Speaker 1 (27:46):
See, I think because because when I called games, that's
what everybody referred to that.

Speaker 2 (27:51):
Now it's nice. Now it's now it's more traper, it's more.
I just look at it like this, to have that
type of target on you as an eighteen year and
have to deal with that and go all the way
to the distance and then you know you dropped the
ball at the end perverbally. But that's tough. Eighteen years old,
five you guys and you get all the way to
the distance. It's tough because they legitimately were pointing at
them all season long and he still got there.

Speaker 1 (28:14):
Earlier this year, you and I had a conversation about
arch Manning. You said, look, he's the one who brought
it on or his family. Did those guys brought it
on themselves? Yeah, but you want to point the finger
at them. That's because they're the ones doing this stuff.
They're doing all the signs, they're doing all the the
picture taking, and they're the ones that you know.

Speaker 2 (28:29):
But they still got there. Yeah, I know they dealt
with it and still got that.

Speaker 1 (28:33):
I'm not discredited.

Speaker 2 (28:34):
Like if Archie gets to the national championship, I'm like, look,
can't you believe what he did? And having the tolerate
on it although they got three losses, they shouldn't be there.
And we could talk about the College Football Playoff, like
are we just gonna have everybody SEC? Is that what
we're doing? This is why I did not want twelve
teams in the SEC. I said that when they first
started this. You now are lobbying for a nine and
three team to potentially get in. There should never be
a national championship, a national champion that loses three games.

(28:57):
I digress. But yeah, if Arch is able to get
thereby the end and he was able to deal with
all that, I would have the same respect.

Speaker 1 (29:03):
But that's interesting. Can we take that.

Speaker 2 (29:06):
Let's keep going.

Speaker 1 (29:07):
I don't like I never felt like the twelve team.
This is surprising and that sort I love about this show.
We can go in so many different directions. I never
liked the twelve playoff team either, because all these people
who are crying for it, I thought, you're the same
people who years ago we're bitching about how much money
these programs are making, how some of these certain games

(29:29):
or certain bowl games are ridiculous to have because you know,
look at them, it's just a money grab. You don't
think a twelve team playoff is strictly a money grab.
But all these people are trying to tell me that, yes,
this is what's best for college football. No it's not.
It doesn't solve a damn thing in.

Speaker 2 (29:45):
The end, and it allowed more teams in, and that's
what they were really getting. After those schools complaining we
want our team to have a shot. We want to
be in. Fine, you want your team to be in,
win your conference, you want your team in. Look the
part by that twelve games to now, I gotta see
boys stay get blown out by how I see smuke
twelve and zero get punished like boise you stay, give
them a shot, let them in.

Speaker 6 (30:05):
We did and what happened?

Speaker 2 (30:07):
Yeah, so that twelve game it just bothers me because, look,
you may not be a fan of the BCS, or
you may not be a fan of the four, and
maybe you wanted six. Four is the limit for me, Like,
there doesn't need to be five, six, seven, eight teams.
There are only four teams that deserve it to win
a national championship in my opinion, every year.

Speaker 1 (30:28):
So how would you do that?

Speaker 2 (30:30):
Go back to four?

Speaker 7 (30:31):
No?

Speaker 1 (30:31):
But my my problem with the four at the time
was who's who's voting on it? So there has to
be We talk about the NCAA needing guards regulation all
the time, right, so I need to know why, more
than anything else, who and why are voting for specific teams?

Speaker 2 (30:48):
When you have that other damage, I'll tell you that, Yeah,
not Heather damage.

Speaker 1 (30:52):
Think about it today. I'm glad you said this. So
if the if the playoffs were to start today, the
twelve teams College Football Playoff b YU would be in
because they're twelve and we saw them and we saw
them against Texas Tech. Right. If you don't think that
Miami and Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech have a legitimate gripe,

(31:13):
you're wrong. They absolutely do compared to BYU. That's why
I don't think it solves anything. I think you're always
going to have an argument of a team that might
be rated lower but still believes they belong.

Speaker 2 (31:25):
Ye and I agree on.

Speaker 1 (31:27):
So you want the four.

Speaker 2 (31:28):
It was a sacred coveted thing. It wasn't perfect. Nothing
will ever be perfect. It was only one thing that
was ever perfect. And he's back in heaven. Like at
the end of the day.

Speaker 3 (31:37):
Four.

Speaker 2 (31:38):
I wanted to four because they convinced me. With the BCS,
I was fine with that. You know, you'll get twelve
versus twelve or whatever it was. You can be head
up and use it be a team underneath, and that
team typically had a chance to be co national champ.
Happened with LSU, happened with Auburn, happened a couple of
times so it's like, you know what, that's the answer
for that.

Speaker 1 (31:56):
And the conference championship games actually meant something.

Speaker 2 (31:57):
I understand it wasn't perfect, but conference champ just matter.
You can all be a co USC beat US in
OH three, well Tennica would have been O three season,
the O four rolls, well, they beat US and then
they co national champ with LSU. That's fine. Four even
was okay. Four is even okay because you know what
come down to four team? Sometimes SEC has George and Alabama.

(32:18):
It's like, look, is it Georgia, is it Alabama, Michigan,
Ohio State or whatever? You can figure it out. You
get the six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve. It's
too many, there's too many variables, too many. Would you
just take the Power four.

Speaker 1 (32:30):
Conferences and just take the champions from each?

Speaker 2 (32:34):
See now it's like now with the nil and transfer
portal like it's it's tough. Yeah, like it's tough, but
I don't know. So for example, the point where.

Speaker 1 (32:42):
Just for example, right now, you'd have two big ten
and two eight.

Speaker 2 (32:45):
Secs Ohio State in Indiana, and you'd have Texas, A
and M in Alabama. I'm fine with you would be
fine with that.

Speaker 1 (32:53):
The complaint might stem from Georgia, Texas tech Ole miss Oregon.

Speaker 2 (32:59):
Georgia you should lost to Alabama, right.

Speaker 1 (33:01):
And Oregon should have lost Indiana and.

Speaker 2 (33:03):
They beat your head up, so they don't really have
a complaint.

Speaker 1 (33:05):
So when you get to a Big ten title game
and it's Ohio State in Indiana, you would take one
of those? Is there a chance? What if a team
these are always.

Speaker 2 (33:13):
What is that where I test? Is we messed up
the test?

Speaker 8 (33:17):
Well?

Speaker 1 (33:17):
What do I always say about the eye test? Because
now whose eyes are are are we using as a test?
If I'm using your eyes there, I think they're a
little bit more valued then.

Speaker 2 (33:29):
Kind of the rice, like my eyes is gonna be
a little b different? Kind OF's the rice who was
on the first college football Playoff comt Yeah, I mean
she didn't have the only vote, but but I'm agreeing
with you.

Speaker 1 (33:41):
Yeah, And why would she be on it? Is what
you're asking who should be on it?

Speaker 2 (33:46):
I think former coaches?

Speaker 1 (33:48):
Do you worry about possible friendship biousness?

Speaker 2 (33:53):
It's going to be there, But I think they I
think they still be more honest than the system that
we have.

Speaker 1 (33:58):
I think I think you're right, Trust Trust w now here.
Here's my only issue with that. Are those coaches watching
on a regular BASI. Look, look, I hate to tell
people this. I'm sure you already know this. All these
coaches polls, do you honestly think Sharon Moore and Jonathan
Smith are voting on that? They don't have time to

(34:18):
sit there and watch all these other games. They have
to worry about their own team.

Speaker 2 (34:23):
And you know what I'm saying. I'm just because that
happened to us before in the coaches pot that was
that wasn't shot at Sharon. I have to educate you
that was a shot at Tennessee and how they play
it is with Phil Former and Tom Osborne. That was
a shot at that situation, not Sharon.

Speaker 1 (34:38):
Yeah, tom Osbourne with Nebraska, No, he didn't. Okay, So
you understand where I'm coming from, though, right, I don't
think those coaches can vote if you had former coaches.
Nick Saban's name comes to mind, of course, he does TV.
Chris Peterson does TV on Fox. Uh, I wouldn't.

Speaker 2 (34:58):
Urban is a crooked, but Urban he would be citing
as he was honest. He's honest, with the exception of
come up. He's the Ohio state bias there is, but
it doesn't even have to be state bias because it's there.
So that's what I'm saying. Ohio State is typically gonna
be there, so you can't even necessarily do it. Michigan
is the only thing that he would be biased on, Okay,

(35:19):
he would hate on Michigan. Outside of that, he'd be.

Speaker 1 (35:21):
And I'm trying to think of some of the other coaches.
I don't know who does coaches TV and SEC, who's
an analyst and on the SEC network, But like Jerry
DeNardo was on the Big Ten, Dave Howard Griffith I
think does a really good job in the Big Ten network.
I would I would like somebody like that Illinois. I
think there are some analysts that you could use. Okay,

(35:41):
if Gary Danielson he's retiring this year, Okay, if Gary
Danielson were on that, I would feel pretty good about that.
I think he could do that without bias.

Speaker 2 (35:50):
I put Danilowski on it, I think you could do
that too.

Speaker 1 (35:53):
Although his main job requires so much film on the
NFL that might be a little challenging. But he's a name, yeah, so.

Speaker 2 (36:00):
He knows these quarterbacks A lot of times when they
come in. He knows these schools. I think he knows
a lot more.

Speaker 1 (36:04):
You do John Gruden.

Speaker 9 (36:07):
What's going on?

Speaker 1 (36:09):
When I said would you do John Gruden? I didn't
mean the imitation, but that's a good one.

Speaker 14 (36:13):
I like it.

Speaker 1 (36:14):
What's going on?

Speaker 2 (36:16):
Yes, he's someone I never got a chance to talk
to be in the same room and get interviewed by
overlap like. I always would have welcome that like he
just just because I think it would be a fun conversation.
Not saying I love John Gruden, no, but I think
I think. I think there is some brilliance to how
he understands the quarterback position. Not necessarily head coach, but
as understanding the quarterback position. He's brilliant in that regard.

Speaker 1 (36:39):
Does that mean that he could look and judge college
football games?

Speaker 7 (36:43):
Though?

Speaker 1 (36:43):
Just because he can judge quarterbacks, I wonder if he
could judge college football games. I think what would be
really important is to take certain analysts along with some
of the coach I don't want to make the committee
too big, but if you had a twelve man committee,
booger McFarland, booger McFarland, Okay, I do too, I would
want to be called that. I've been called worse. If
you had Greg McElroy, who does games. Yeah, Greg, Okay,

(37:06):
so you had him all right, And you had Charles
Davis who does games, and you had Nick Saban, and
you had Chris Peterson. You had a few coaches and
a few analysts. Brady Quinn, Joel kat Klatt, Brady Quinn. Yes,
So those guys all who are really good at what
they do, that's their job. Their job is to focus

(37:26):
on college football and watch as much as they can
possibly consume.

Speaker 2 (37:30):
I wan't trust anybody from fox Man, you know, up
for the highest bidder. And I'm just saying, okay, just jokes,
just jokes.

Speaker 3 (37:37):
Would you put herb Street up there?

Speaker 1 (37:39):
I think kirkirk Street is excellent in what he does
at the collegiate level. I don't like him on Thursday
Night Football. I think he's excellent as a college football analyst. Yes,
I would have him part of it.

Speaker 2 (37:50):
Yeah, there's only one thing I like about Kurt Herbshey
as it relates to the NFL. I love that he
has all the knowledge from covering those kids in college,
so when he gets to the NFL, when he's talking
about it, he takes you on the journey. As he's
talking about them in between plays, he said, you gotta
love him, Mecca Book. I remember when he was a
sophomore at Ohio State. You know, these are the things
that we saw. He was great at these routes. I
remember he takes you through that. So now by the

(38:12):
next time, you're like, oh, I want to see that route.
What does it look like. He's been doing this for
so long. That's what he does well. Outside of that,
he's just trying to keep it al Michael's up.

Speaker 1 (38:21):
I tend to agree with John that poor son of
a gunman. He was helping Lee Corso. Yeah, he was
saying keeping Lee Corso up for a long time and
did a great job with him.

Speaker 3 (38:31):
In the wise words of our own Spencer Axter kirk Curve,
WHI just babysits old people.

Speaker 1 (38:36):
Yeah, he did put that out there. That was that
was pretty fun Yeah, that was that was really funny.
But I think he does a good job. But so
that was my idea. If you're going to have that committee,
that's who I'd like to see. I don't want to
see athletic directors, okay of schools. I want to see
people who watch games because the ads. Don't kid yourself,
they're watching their teams and they're watching their conferences. How

(38:57):
much are they paying attention to the others?

Speaker 8 (38:59):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (39:00):
When they get serious about that, When the College Football
Playoff Committee starts to get serious about that and put
the right people in place and admittedly say, these guys
know more than I do, then I'll start to believe
it a little bit more.

Speaker 2 (39:12):
That's fair because then at least, look, we know twelve
isn't going anywhere. You cannot put the genie back in
a bottle, but at least if done that way, shit,
you'll get a body, a governing body that is really
looking at these twelve teams and they're putting together the
best twelve team so that you can get a legit playoff.
You can get a legit tournament. So when it happens,
I'm like, all right, bet Like watching that Ohio State

(39:34):
Notre Dame game, and no disrespect to either one of
those schools, because they're both Rire, I was like this
this is what I got. Yeah, like this this is
what it comes down to, this Notre Dame team, and
all right, so I'm telling.

Speaker 1 (39:46):
Me I would take a lot of them just because
like you mentioned the eye test, all right, I would
love to get their thoughts on that field. Do you
think it's going to stop at twelve? I think next
year it'll be twelve again, and then I worry about it.

Speaker 2 (39:58):
Sixteen.

Speaker 1 (39:59):
That's what I worry about. I worry about sixteen. And
I was talking with Sean beleachin last night. He does
the mornings here on Woodward Sports eight to ten every morning,
shout out. He thinks they're gonna go to like twenty four.

Speaker 2 (40:10):
That's what I was about to say. That's what I
think the automate is gonna go to. They're gonna go
to every team that's ranked, and go to every team
that is ranked, and it's twenty five teams in the rankings,
so they'll they'll just drop one team off.

Speaker 1 (40:23):
So then then for just a game, for just a
moment and just a moment on Brailan's Breakdown or the
Braylan Edwards Show, I will go ballistic. And the reason
I'm gonna go ballistic and is because how many games
are they gonna play? So you're gonna you have twelve
regular season games? Now, if you had twenty, you doubled
this eighteen last year. What it'llhose State have sixteen games.

(40:44):
It's an NFL schedule. Fifteen was fifteen or sixteen? I
think it was twelve thirteen.

Speaker 2 (40:50):
They did go to the Big Ten championship game, that's right,
twelve fifteen see Oregon. No, they played sixteen is actually correct?

Speaker 3 (40:57):
Tennessee Oregon texts Dame and then the twelve.

Speaker 2 (41:01):
So imagine if they now imagine if they beat Oregon,
so now they play sixteen?

Speaker 1 (41:06):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (41:06):
Oh no, I guess they would. They would have gotten
buy fifteen.

Speaker 1 (41:09):
Yeah. But either way, it's an NFL schedule. So what
more do you want from from these kids? And if
you get twenty four? I don't know how it work,
but to me, it sounds like there's more games added
to your schedule. And if they want to peel it back,
you know what's gonna happen. They're gonna take away the
non conference stuff. They're gonna take away. And who does

(41:30):
that hurt? That hurts the mid What hurts the mid
major guys?

Speaker 7 (41:34):
It does?

Speaker 1 (41:35):
It hurts the mid major guys and all these mid
majors they might as well just get rid of their
football programs.

Speaker 2 (41:40):
For crying out loud, here's a good question when does
anybody going to class?

Speaker 1 (41:44):
Yeah exactly. Oh, but we're all about the student athlete.
It's such bull crap, it really is, and it's really
frustrating anyway.

Speaker 2 (41:51):
That's what I think.

Speaker 1 (41:52):
It's gonna be twelve again next year. I worry about
that that barn door being open the following season, and
you're gonna get between sixteen and twenty four and they're
gonna see dollar signs left and right, and they're gonna say,
let's do it some more, let's expand it more. Because
people will be upset about it, Braylan, but they're not
gonna stop watching. They can complain all they want, they're
not gonna stop watching.

Speaker 2 (42:12):
What did the NCAA basketball tournament over?

Speaker 6 (42:14):
Reason?

Speaker 7 (42:14):
You start with.

Speaker 1 (42:17):
Thirty I was gonna say thirty something.

Speaker 2 (42:19):
Nothing ever stays the same, nothing, It always moves forward.
And once you see that there is profit, and once
you see there's major profit, which is gonna keep on going.

Speaker 1 (42:30):
That's right.

Speaker 15 (42:31):
Well.

Speaker 1 (42:31):
When people say I always laughed at this, they gotta
cut the baseball season back, I say, I used to
say all the time, from what to what? From one
sixty two to what, and they'd say, I don't know.
One hundred and fifty games. And I said, okay, so
you're talking about twelve games, six home games. Do you
think an owner at a conference table is gonna vote
yay for losing six home games? When if you had

(42:55):
let's just say thirty thousand, okay, one hundred and eighty
thousand people ten bucks a ticket, you do it. You
do the mask.

Speaker 2 (43:02):
Not if I'm the Dodgers where they charged twenty four
dollars for one beer.

Speaker 1 (43:06):
Hell no, it sounds like somebody speaking from experience there.

Speaker 2 (43:10):
Dodger Stadium is so expensive.

Speaker 14 (43:12):
It is.

Speaker 1 (43:13):
It's really like, but it's awesome.

Speaker 2 (43:14):
It's one of the ones where like when you're there,
you're like, I get it. Yeah, because some Elisee stands
we talked about a little bit with when you uh
with Lambeau, you can still feel the magic and Dodgers
is one of those stays where you're like, oh, yeah,
there's Sandy Kofax. Yeah, all this timeless order in this
area right now.

Speaker 1 (43:31):
You can I go into Dodgers Stadium. I just sometimes
stand and look around and go, this is the way
baseball was meant to be played. You know, there are
certain places you feel that way. Fog Allen's a little
like that. For college basketball, what were you gonna say?

Speaker 3 (43:46):
Right to your point, it started off with eight teams
and thirty nine and then kind of like the next
like ten years, it kept doubling, doubling, doubling, and then
in nineteen eighty five it's it's been sixty four ever
since then, but it's it just kept doubling like every
ten years.

Speaker 1 (43:59):
But remember then they had to play in tournament. Yeah, yeah,
that so n i T they they found, well n
i T is actually older than the n c Double
A Tournament.

Speaker 2 (44:07):
See, everyone's when you learn something. So what what they
do that used to be the major?

Speaker 1 (44:12):
That used to be the major, right, and now they've
got that other one.

Speaker 3 (44:15):
What's the c's CBA or the CBI, CBI College Basketball Invitation?

Speaker 1 (44:19):
Yeah, the CBO, Ryan, So the CBI is college really
I appreciate, I mean, come on, give me a break.

Speaker 7 (44:25):
Right.

Speaker 1 (44:26):
So that's where you're looking at things where they may
not expand they're gonna expand it from sixty four, there's
no question about it. But they're gonna they find different
ways to make their money.

Speaker 2 (44:35):
I never watched n i T except one year Michigan one.
This would have been like three. Yeah, like Man Michigan one.
It was funny because you know they came back and
they were wearing a T shirts and hats and they're
wearing them on campus.

Speaker 7 (44:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (44:49):
I feel so bad. I was looking at them like,
y'all want n I team and get out of here.
They'll take this. The only thing I could just be
like Ohio State too my junior year.

Speaker 1 (44:58):
What I what I do appreciate about the n I
t is the kids get to keep practicing, and I
think that can be very beneficial. I really do. I'm
not saying it's you should be bragging about it and
come on, everybody, let's go do this and stuff like that,
because I've called some an I games, but I do
believe it's it can be beneficial for the kids. I'd
rather go. I wouldn't want to go two years in

(45:18):
a row, but I'd rather go than not go at
all and have my kids twiddling their thumbs at home.

Speaker 2 (45:23):
To your point, you're not trying to make it a habit.

Speaker 1 (45:25):
That's right.

Speaker 2 (45:26):
It's not make this a happen No.

Speaker 1 (45:27):
No, And let's be careful on how we promote it
and market it from from a school standpoint. We're going
to dive into some quarterback talk when we come back.
I do want Braylan's thoughts on something I do want
to get, you know, people's thoughts in the chat on
the lack of support I got in a little bit
of a disagreement. We'll do that when we come back

(45:50):

And with that, any super chat you want to get
to before we dive into this conversation. The first dollar
flew by, love the music conversation, love the college football talk.
Really appreciate the perspective from everybody. Go ahead, yeah we do.

Speaker 5 (54:07):
We have a couple super chats here, one from a
G major DJ, Number two crimes in the Chat today,
One on the night super chat. You can probably understand
what we're going here, the music stuff. He says techno
started here as well.

Speaker 1 (54:20):
I didn't know that I liked one.

Speaker 2 (54:22):
I'm saying it started here. What happened was Chicago had
the deep house kind of like moving by at the
same time as Detroit. And then what Detroit did was
we created the techno sound, so it was very different,
and they try to take credit. No, you cannot Detroit
create this sound, and that you can. He's not lying.
He's like nineteen nineteen, eighty four, eighty three, and then

(54:45):
it rocked and roll and they did Techno Fest in
ninety four. They opened up. It used to be free
and now is movement and movement, Oh yeah, movements probably
you know to go to the whole weekend VIP is
probably like two hundred.

Speaker 1 (54:57):
But how do you know so much about music?

Speaker 2 (54:59):
I love music. Music is like, I get it.

Speaker 1 (55:01):
I like music too. But I mean, you're a walking
encyclopedia for Chritsi. I mean you are Casey case back
in the day. You're this year's version. You're a black
version of Ryan Seacrest.

Speaker 7 (55:11):
I was, am I wrong?

Speaker 1 (55:14):
No, tell me I'm wrong.

Speaker 2 (55:15):
He puts on he puts on some smooth clothes.

Speaker 1 (55:17):
But no, not as smooth as yours.

Speaker 2 (55:19):
I appreciate that. Now, you know, music is just part
of lifeloive, Like I said my mom, everybody in the family.

Speaker 7 (55:24):
It's just and it is.

Speaker 2 (55:25):
The city is Detroit.

Speaker 1 (55:26):
But I learned. I learned a lot about music when
when I talked to Braylin. It's really cool.

Speaker 3 (55:31):
I do like a little techno music, more like the
E d M kind of. They've been playing on Wednesdays
house music, house music, that's more. That's when I got
into college. But I don't know if you notice, Like
on Wednesday's Lady James plays like house music playlist. When
you guys are talking, I'm like sitting here vibing and everything,
just like the conversation.

Speaker 1 (55:47):
They just played. No because this music is playing.

Speaker 2 (55:50):
I heard some takes a lot.

Speaker 17 (55:52):
Ryan.

Speaker 2 (55:52):
They played an Axull song maybe like two three weeks ago,
and I heard XO from Sweet House Mafia, so oh,
I love. I definitely heard it in there.

Speaker 3 (55:59):
I know a little, but no, like they played one
of my favorite songs like twenty minutes ago, and I
was just.

Speaker 1 (56:04):
Like, you're digging it.

Speaker 2 (56:06):
That's the thing about house music is like house music
may be one of the only genres that you can say,
can you.

Speaker 1 (56:11):
Explain house music? I'm sorry, Just in case people don't.

Speaker 2 (56:13):
Know, house music might be one of the only drama
genres where you can say my favorite song and not
know who the artist is. Yeah, some time point, that
was the beginning of my house phase. Like, man, this
song is amazing. Who says, I have no clue? I
can't tell you to save my life? And then you
start diving into it. It's beats, melanies, percussions over rhythmic
music that has a consistent flow, has a consistent feel,

(56:36):
has a consistent assistant flow, and as you get into it,
it starts to change and it's really just takes you
on a journey's journey music.

Speaker 1 (56:43):
Webster, I'm gonna call you Webster when we start talking
about music, I'm gonna call you Webster. He just he
gave a description that would come out of a dictionary
on what techno music is. So there you go. Good job, Webster.

Speaker 6 (56:55):
We got a DJ that used to be here, Dj Choff.

Speaker 5 (56:58):
Some of his music is in our system and uh,
early on we did some content together and he had
me go with him up to Muskeg and for that
we discover Fest big Fest car Festival, as well be
playing that day. No, not that day, but it was beautiful, man,
Michigan got a lot of the music scene. It was
epic all over the world.

Speaker 1 (57:17):
Good for you any more in the super chests definitely
chats in general if you think there's something good in there.

Speaker 5 (57:22):
Middle aged sneaker chick number one five dollars says, I'm
gonna send this to him too.

Speaker 6 (57:29):
I wonder if Anson still wants to die on that
U of him is a cheater.

Speaker 1 (57:34):
Hell, we could bring him in.

Speaker 2 (57:37):
He's still in the back. It's a rough day for
the Big tam, you know, because Michigan State in this
whole scandal USC and they're idiot, what's going?

Speaker 7 (57:47):
What was it?

Speaker 2 (57:47):
What was USC doing?

Speaker 1 (57:49):
Like?

Speaker 15 (57:50):
What was us?

Speaker 14 (57:51):
Like?

Speaker 2 (57:51):
Why is Lincoln Rowley still to coach at USC?

Speaker 1 (57:54):
Money?

Speaker 2 (57:55):
Because they paid him all that money and now they
can't go back.

Speaker 1 (57:57):
Well, they ain't just paying money. I mean look what
they did with the playing, the jet, the houses. The
word is when he was in Norman.

Speaker 2 (58:05):
Kick him out and then bring somebody else to living in.

Speaker 1 (58:07):
I don't disagree with you, but the word was when
he was in Norman, he obviously lived in a house
and he was building a new house. They paid for
both those usc went, paid for the house he was
living in, paid for the house he was building, and
paid for the house for him in Los Angeles or
wherever the suburb of LA and.

Speaker 2 (58:25):
Told him whenever you want, this jet's yours. And his
daughter has been using the hell out of it.

Speaker 1 (58:29):
Oh is that true?

Speaker 8 (58:32):
You know what?

Speaker 1 (58:34):
Shame on them that they did. They deserve everything they get.
You're gonna give that guy that much power, that much money,
that much gold.

Speaker 2 (58:41):
Screw you who inherited the program.

Speaker 1 (58:44):
And then didn't do anything with it.

Speaker 2 (58:46):
I'm not hating. I'm yes way over it. I'm not
hating on an individual inheriting something and taking it and
running with not at all individuals that have done it
and made it even better. When you inherit something, you
don't make it better, and then you get paid on
that merit which you didn't create. And then you start
to see the chinks and armor fast that tells you

(59:06):
that this person went.

Speaker 1 (59:07):
Like, dude, nobody is worth that much. Nobody's worth three
houses and a private jet. If your school, if.

Speaker 2 (59:13):
You're worth going, no, I don't want to cut you off.

Speaker 1 (59:16):
If excuse me, if your school there is rich and
football tradition, rich and Heisman tradition needs to do all
that to convince somebody to come there, then you shouldn't
want that guy in the first place. That's my take
on it. I would never ever give that much to
one guy thinking that he was going to turn it
around like that, Go ahead.

Speaker 2 (59:34):
I'll make it simple. If he's that good, Oklahoma wouldn't
let him go. Like if he's that good, well, he's
worth that much money, Oklahoma wouldn't let him go.

Speaker 1 (59:43):
Not just yeah, But on the other hand, if if
I'm Oklahoma, you don't want to be here, you want
you need all that you're you're that high maintenance. We've
all dated high maintenance people in our lives. Right, Sometimes
it gets to be too much. Can't keep up with
the Joneses, man, you gotta find somebody else. I'm gonna
find somebody just makes me happy.

Speaker 2 (01:00:02):
True. I'm more so saying like, look at the beginning
of Alabama. Let's say, at the beginning of Alabama, when
Nick Saban gets there, the beginning of that, if somebody
would have came and offered him something after the win
against Texas the first National Championship, something crazy, Alabama would
have said thank you, No, thank you, what do you need?
That's more so what I'm saying, got like Oklahoma didn't
even try to mess. It was like you got him.

Speaker 1 (01:00:24):
They appreciated what he had good enough. That's a that's
well said. All right, kool aid anything else, because there's
a lot of fire right now in the chat.

Speaker 5 (01:00:33):
Yeah, yeah, no, I'm seeing some people who are Michigan
State has just been kind of the talk of the chat,
especially from one of the my most favorite chat names,
hoof Hearted. He's continued to just say, bro, now they
got a vacate all fourteen wins over three seasons.

Speaker 2 (01:00:49):
What a same It's funny as hell. But at the
same time, it's not. It's really it's because it's already
a school that you were looking at them, like when
can Michigan State figure this situation? And on nothing inside.
I didn't see this year, I didn't see next year.
I don't see three years. I see this as a
four or five year project. And now your probation.

Speaker 1 (01:01:08):
Which you can't do, by the way anymore. You can't
have four or five year projects. Hell no, no, that
makes it, that makes it a lot less appealing, you know,
So I wonder allowed here. How it changes anybody who
anybody who's at the table going gotta fire him, got
to bring in somebody new, How it changes their opinion

(01:01:28):
about that. I'll give you an example. I was talking
with a Michigan State friend of mine the other day
and I said, you know, they keep bringing up Jason Kandell,
who I like, Okay, period, I think he's a good
coach at Toledo. But Michigan, I said, you, Michigan State fans,
here's what you do. Let's go get a mid major
guy and bring him up like you did with Mark D'Antonio.
Although you know with Cincinnati Midnight light, right, are you
going to do that again? So I said, you know what,

(01:01:50):
you want to make a statement, here's what you do.
It's not going to happen, but contact Lane Kiffin just
to let people know.

Speaker 2 (01:01:58):
You know what we're trying.

Speaker 1 (01:02:00):
We want to be in the discussion. We give a
damn right, Lane Kiffin may say no, thank you. My
short list is Ole, miss LSU, and Florida State. When
it opens up, I don't know whatever. Okay, if I'm
Michigan State, I'm calling as many guys who I respect,
even if they're big programs. Just to let people know
I'm a player. I'm willing to get in the discussion.

(01:02:23):
Let me get my feet wet a little bit. Why
wouldn't they do that? Of course they should do that.
Even if they say no, how much does this hurt them?
Do you think if indeed they move on from Jonathan Smith?

Speaker 2 (01:02:34):
I don't know. But I never listened to this show,
but I definitely guarantee you when I get my crabs.
So I've be listening to ninety seven. Want to see
what they're lying about, because they had all so much
to say about Michigan. You know, I'm talking about guarantee
you today. But here's the Michigan State energy because I
guarantee you when I turn that downogue, what are he
and you know who talking about?

Speaker 1 (01:02:54):
You know what?

Speaker 2 (01:02:55):
So what they cheated?

Speaker 1 (01:02:55):
They suck?

Speaker 2 (01:02:56):
I don't care. That's what Michigan State does. That's going
to be the conversation. So what they suck? We don't care.
They do nothing. Meanwhile, it's on the other foot. I
can't wait to listen. I can't I cannot wait to
list my apologies.

Speaker 1 (01:03:09):
I'm unfamiliar with that. I listened to a lot of
MLB radio, NFL radio, NHL radio, NBA radio, And that's
kind of where I go. But now that you're telling
me that maybe that'd be a good tune in, let
me let me ask you something about what we were
talking about last night, and it was about what it
kind of came at the end of our show yesterday. Uh,
we changed the back wall. I don't understand why this

(01:03:30):
is I'll Kick your coverage. I don't think Caleb Williams
is really that bad.

Speaker 2 (01:03:33):
But they just don't. I keeps you, but they don't
like you like so it doesn't matter what he looks like.

Speaker 1 (01:03:37):
They don't like Kayli, I don't I don't get it.
I don't know who the young lady is. I don't
think Caleb Williams looks all that bad right there.

Speaker 2 (01:03:44):
But he paints his fingernails though, yeah, I wouldn't do that.

Speaker 1 (01:03:48):
That doesn't make doesn't make me want to go ready
break with him. But I'm just saying I don't understand
why he's on I'll Kick Your Your coverage there and
winning two tickets to Detroit against the next anyway, So, yes,
today we have this conversation about I'm on Rossaint Brown
and the punch. We have a group chat with all
our family members here at Woodward Sports, and there's a

(01:04:12):
lot of people who think I'm completely off, out of
my mind saying that that was a punch right there.
And I was pretty adamant about saying. As much as
I love A'man rossaying Brown, and I think everybody in
Detroit does, why fourth round pick undersized beat all the

(01:04:33):
odds right, So everybody loves him. I do too. But
if you're going to be true to form and believe
that people should be punished for throwing haymakers, for throwing punches,
and they did it against your team, then you believe
that's a violation. What did bray Let's say yesterday? If

(01:04:53):
Juju Smith Schuster does that to a Lee McNeil, you're
pissed and you want him kicked out, you want him
suspended or even jamil or you would want him suspended
for the next game. So that was my point. I
don't know who. I don't know everybody in the chat,
but there's a number of them who said, oh, come on, man,
give me a break. Let boys be boys. Oh okay,

(01:05:15):
so we should let the Kansas City Chiefs be boys
against the Lions. But of course they wouldn't take that
noise that noise, would they? And then what else do
we get? We get people saying, well, the Lions have
been screwed before. This is my favorite. The Lion's been
screwed before, so they owe us one. My response was, yeah,
that's what referee crew does. The officials get together and say, hey,

(01:05:36):
just so you know, if anything happens to I'm on
same brown or anybody, let's just let it go because
remember they got screwed by a diffinish officiating crew earlier
this year. We're gonna get judged. We may miss out
on a playoff game if we miss something like this.
But I just want everyone to know the Lions deserve
a little make me up. I was waiting for Braylin.
I was waiting for kool Ai because there's no Pistons

(01:05:56):
game last night. I was waiting for Ryan. He was
playing pickleball at Wicked Pickle Where's the love? Where's the support?
Do you not believe what I was saying? Do you
think I was in the wrong there?

Speaker 7 (01:06:06):
What was going on?

Speaker 2 (01:06:06):
No, you're absolutely in the right. But there's two things
let me educate you. Like and this is this is
this is what it is. I love my guys in
the back.

Speaker 1 (01:06:13):
I love them.

Speaker 2 (01:06:13):
I don't argue with them as it relates to lions
because they're fans.

Speaker 5 (01:06:17):
The clip blew up to by the way, I'm looking
at the comments the clip, absolutely.

Speaker 2 (01:06:20):
Like they're fans. Like their fans first, then their analyst second.
You cannot argue with someone that is a fan first
and an analyst second.

Speaker 1 (01:06:29):
That's what I put in the chat because they're fanboys,
and then that they lost him.

Speaker 2 (01:06:33):
But they are though, like stick all of them. I
love them to death. With their off fan boys, you
can't have a real conversation with them sometimes as it
relates to trigger points. So having that conversation with them,
no think I'm surprised you were even in that chat.
I'm surprised you're even in there. But like one of
them said, at the end of the day, he threw
a punch. If they if they decided to spend, if
they decide to suspend him, he threw a punch, he

(01:06:54):
got caught, he suspended. If they don't be kudos, but
they owed you one.

Speaker 1 (01:06:58):
They were literally saying it wasn't a punch. So I
want to make sure that I'm seeing what I'm seeing,
because he described it perfectly yesterday. Just how many times
are people saying to you, you're not seeing what you're seeing.

Speaker 2 (01:07:07):
Just watch kin Law's helmet. All you gotta do is
watch kin Laws.

Speaker 1 (01:07:10):
That's pain, don pain, just watch it.

Speaker 2 (01:07:13):
That's that's a forum. He turned around and watch his helmet. Yep,
that's all I need to.

Speaker 1 (01:07:20):
See with with aman Rossaint Brown's hand going through. Unless
that's Rocky against Drago and Rocky three where they weren't
really good for Rocky four, thank you.

Speaker 2 (01:07:32):
It's my favorite movie. It's my favorite.

Speaker 1 (01:07:33):
I'm not talking. I'm not talking movies, or that's my favorite.

Speaker 2 (01:07:36):
You know, you'll that's my favorite movie.

Speaker 1 (01:07:38):
Okay, but you've got to admit they weren't even close
to punching one another. No, okay, So unless that's Drago
and Rocky that I'm mistaking them for Duran Pain got
punched in the fact, if.

Speaker 2 (01:07:51):
You want it now. And here's the thing though, see,
I think the conversation can be had differently. Uh what
was sports chat? If you want to say that there
was a punch thrown, but because pain is a big
do and it didn't matter, he didn't hurt him. That's
a different conversation. He didn't hurt him. He still threw
a punch.

Speaker 1 (01:08:07):
Okay, but remember Duran Pain when he punched I'm on
Ross Saint Brown. You said, that's a three hundred pound
man punching a guy right in the grill. And he
didn't go down right. So if that's the case, then
why would he get ejected because it didn't hurt It
obviously didn't hurt. I'man Ross Saint Brown.

Speaker 2 (01:08:27):
Well rests always looking stuff different. It's just like when
you have Mark Price file Shack in the beginning and
restaurant calling it and not calling it because of what
it is. Meanwhile, Shack put a finger on Mark Price
and throw him out of the game in ninety two.

Speaker 1 (01:08:39):
That is such a good example.

Speaker 2 (01:08:41):
Hey, Shaq, gets your big ass out of here. I'm
doing that?

Speaker 7 (01:08:43):
Would I do?

Speaker 2 (01:08:44):
I didn't even do anything and put his hands on
my What you want to do?

Speaker 1 (01:08:50):
Yeah, that's so funny. That's a great example. Mark Price
and Shaquille o'nil Mark Price comes up to his k
kneecaps anything. I'm sorry, kool aid, you were gonna say,
so what we know?

Speaker 5 (01:09:01):
I was gonna say, Look when I first saw the play,
all I saw was a swite And if that's what
people were like, you know what, that's all I did.
I would probably be like, yeah, a little about But
the second one, that's just a full on punch, bro.

Speaker 1 (01:09:12):
This is get people are blowing up in the chat.
What were you saying about?

Speaker 8 (01:09:17):
That?

Speaker 1 (01:09:17):
Was that the chat? Are you talking about?

Speaker 7 (01:09:19):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (01:09:19):
Yeah, no, I was the clip Mars show. Yes, Mars
Show that a couple of to day. Most of yous
right now. The likes, but the comments are are wild.
They're all over the place.

Speaker 2 (01:09:31):
They're not in favor of about what happened.

Speaker 1 (01:09:34):
Oh they're not.

Speaker 2 (01:09:35):
They're not in favorite, but I know they were.

Speaker 6 (01:09:37):
It's a lot of comments.

Speaker 2 (01:09:39):
You can go ahead.

Speaker 1 (01:09:40):
Can you give us a sample?

Speaker 2 (01:09:42):
Let me see here?

Speaker 1 (01:09:44):
Let me sorry.

Speaker 2 (01:09:44):
I wasn't there for you either. What were you doing pickleball?

Speaker 14 (01:09:48):
No?

Speaker 3 (01:09:49):
I was actually about to hit a PR and weightlifting?

Speaker 2 (01:09:51):
So what pr? And what squatting?

Speaker 1 (01:09:54):
Nice? Like that?

Speaker 3 (01:09:56):
Fifteen?

Speaker 9 (01:09:59):
Stop it?

Speaker 1 (01:10:00):
He's a lower body guy. Good for you. Good way
to do legs, man.

Speaker 7 (01:10:03):
I like that.

Speaker 6 (01:10:04):
Where to go muscle group in my body that grows?
I like that?

Speaker 1 (01:10:07):
We get what what do you got there? Cool? Or
you wanted to move on.

Speaker 5 (01:10:11):
No, No, I got a couple here. Man don't want
to He says he gave him a wing and a drumstick.
They love that analogy yesterday. But Bobby says, doesn't pay
push him before this interaction. If you rewind it doesn't
pay and push him first. It's so minor compared to
what he took later on in the sequence. Are you
sure there wasn't some pushing before this that gave him

(01:10:31):
some justification to defend himself.

Speaker 2 (01:10:34):
But see, that's just the thing. Like whether you were
the first one to do it, whether you're the second
person do it, it's still illegal either way. It's still
in the wrong. It still is against the cold of conduct.
Like whether you were second, third, fourth, fifth, whether somebody
mushed you, pushed you down, body slams you and you
got up pushed, you still are against the cold of conduct.
Now in that moment, you still may fight, and that's fine,

(01:10:55):
but just know when you're against the cold of conduct,
that's what happens. I hope he does not get suspended.
I'm just simply responding as these are the rules. That
was a clear punch, you see.

Speaker 5 (01:11:04):
The they still push back on that like Brian. He
was like, whoa, This was just a push to the
face mass is not a punch. They're still saying that.

Speaker 1 (01:11:12):
I don't know how you can objectively look at that
and not say it's he didn't punch him. I don't
know how you can say that. We could all be fans,
we could all be homers and appreciate what a guy
has done. It doesn't mean you have to be blinded
by that fandom faith, Okay, you have to recognize things

(01:11:34):
and understand if you were on the other side. Again,
if Juju smith Schuster punched a Lee McNeil, since they
know putting the positions together, you would be livid. It's
the same group, and I said this in the group chat.
It's the same group that were pissed off the Kansas
City had no penalties. Did you see what Juju smith
Schuster did to Brian Branch. Of course we did, and

(01:11:56):
he should have been punished for it.

Speaker 6 (01:11:58):
That's jere Bruski in a chat.

Speaker 5 (01:11:59):
I mean one of the comments he says, if Juju
doesn't get ish, we're gonna riot.

Speaker 6 (01:12:04):
If I'm in Rod gets anything, you.

Speaker 2 (01:12:07):
Can know what you want to at the end of
the day, it's against the code of conduct, like and
if they choose to penalize it, then they're gonna penalize it.
If they don't, then you know, he dies the bullet
and we'll see where rock and rolls on Sunday.

Speaker 1 (01:12:18):
But I mean, it is what it is. I love
this one. Defending pain while being in Detroit is wild.
Who's theft the blank out of here? How we defended.

Speaker 2 (01:12:29):
Is that what's his name?

Speaker 8 (01:12:30):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (01:12:32):
Flannels, Flannels budget or something like that. So you're trying
to tell me because we're in Detroit, because we're in Detroit.

Speaker 2 (01:12:41):
But Stott, we're not defending him. There's no we're not.

Speaker 1 (01:12:44):
I know, we're not defending him. We're just making a
point that I'm on right saying Brown is guilty in
this regard. But even if he, even if we were,
because we're in Detroit, we have to defend everything every
Detroit athlete ever does. What a simplistic mindset that that's stupidity.

Speaker 2 (01:12:59):
That they use the name of stupidity. Let me ask
you a question, though, where were you when we had
the whole conversation about the Keennessee Chiefs, right when we
went on a tirade, Even though the play was an
illegal play, went on a tirade about what the rest
are doing, about what the chiefs are allowed them. We
went on, We just went everywhere. Even though that play
didn't decide the game. We talked about that play for

(01:13:20):
two days. Yeah, we legitimately dogged that play. Like, so
we're gonna call it how we see it. If you
want somebody to be homers and make you feel good
about your Lions, go to ninety seven one. We ain't
doing anything.

Speaker 5 (01:13:30):
Look, that's what that I respect about it. Even when
I disagree. I'm sitting here like, but they're being real.
That's why I say, y'all, are these stand one business boys?

Speaker 6 (01:13:36):
Straight up?

Speaker 1 (01:13:37):
I would feel the exact same way if it was
against the Lions. Okay, I'd feel the exact same way
if it were the Cowboys and the Eagles and we
were talking about it. I don't think it matters all
that much. The bias mindset that people have. And I
love the fandom. I love that they support their teams,
But the bias mindset and the blinders on because it's

(01:13:58):
our guy to me is laughable. We'll take a quick
time out when we come back.

Speaker 2 (01:14:03):
Also to last thing is when you watch the play.
The reason why you know it's a punch is speaking
of Pain being a big man. He's not moving his
face for Alma Road's little self compared to him, a
little compared to him.

Speaker 7 (01:14:14):
He's not moving.

Speaker 2 (01:14:15):
So the only thing that would get his helmet to
move that fast is a fist or an open hand.
And that's what Amarad saying, gave him, whether it was
a fist on the open hand, he gave him something
to turn that helmet that fast, because trust me, Pain's
not looking at him. Oh he's throwing the punch. I
gotta dodge the punch. He would have ate that and
been ready for the war.

Speaker 1 (01:14:34):
So yeah, good point. Hey, so the Lions get the Eagles. Next,
you saw where Jr. Alexander has decided to go away
from the team. Makes it does make sense?

Speaker 2 (01:14:43):
Yeah, I saw that.

Speaker 5 (01:14:45):
Oh easy, easy, just chimed in too easy actually because
easys honest he had This is different than what he
was saying last night, and so he says it's not
the same as the Juju situation. He does think i'mad
might get fine, okay, And you know what is he well,
always appreciate you.

Speaker 1 (01:15:02):
I do too. I don't apologize. I don't don't have
his number. I don't know if he was part of
the group chat or not. That's fine. I'm asking if
you think he should be no kidding. We think he's
gonna get fined. He may even miss the game.

Speaker 7 (01:15:15):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:15:16):
But the point was that most people didn't think it
was a punch, and that to me is ridiculous.

Speaker 2 (01:15:22):
And I don't know if you gotta take the win
where you can get it. Him coming back to day
and saying that that was a win.

Speaker 1 (01:15:27):
I want to clean.

Speaker 2 (01:15:28):
That's that's a win.

Speaker 1 (01:15:29):
I want to clean. Sweet.

Speaker 2 (01:15:30):
I appreciate JayR.

Speaker 1 (01:15:31):
Alexander, Yes, Alexander.

Speaker 2 (01:15:34):
Last year when he was playing for the Green Bay Packers,
there was a game. I can't remember exactly what the
game was. He wasn't even a captain in this game.
He proceeds to come to the coin toss and in
the coin sas caused the cause tails and it wasn't
it was the opposite. And then that was the beginning.
First time I saw it. Actually, I have never in
the history of the NFL, I have never seen a
player who was not a captain, who was not an

(01:15:55):
honorable captain for that game, come to the coin tas
and proceed to call heads or tails. That's not someone
that is that's not someone that's fully there. Like so
when I saw that moment, and then you see green
Bay move off of him, keep in mind he was
an all pro two years ago. You see green Bay
move off him, you see him go to a woman.
Then they move off of him, and now this Baltimore.

(01:16:17):
You're saying, Baltimore, they move off of him. And now
the Eagles, who could use him if they wanted, That's
what they always do. And now he's saying, I want
to step away. That moment at that coin toss, I said,
something more is going on here.

Speaker 1 (01:16:31):
You think something's right, Something more is.

Speaker 2 (01:16:33):
Going on, just like Vontae Davis, like in halftime of
a game, rest in peace and halftime of a game saying, now.

Speaker 1 (01:16:39):
This is it. Great cornerback by the.

Speaker 2 (01:16:41):
Illinois shot to the big ten, Like you know, when
you know that something else is going on, there's something
more here. Him doing that, something was alarming about that.
And now here we are two teams later and he's
considering retirement.

Speaker 1 (01:16:55):
I always think of Tightus Younger and that because Titus
young everybody knew there was something wrong the concussions, and yeah,
a lot of concussions and the way he acted made
people uncomfortable within the building in Allen Park. That is
the second player though, that Philadelphia has lost middle of
the season who says I just don't want to play anymore.

(01:17:16):
I don't want to read too much into it, but
Zadieri Smith left, now Jay r Alexander, Now they got
Brandon Graham out of retirement. Shout out to Detroit. But
it's odd that I don't know if I've ever seen
that two guys who in the middle of the season
just say, you know what, I don't want to play anymore.

Speaker 2 (01:17:30):
Jayer. Maybe that's not necessarily so I based on what
we saw in those I think Hassan Reddit was a
little bit I considering two years ago he was up
for the max. You know, two years ago you were
legitimately talk about him being a thirty million dollar defensive
end or a Russian or outside linebackers. So to go
from that to this now that one I would want
to do some homework on.

Speaker 1 (01:17:52):
Found it very interesting. Either way. The quarterbacks position in
the National Football League we've never thought is super deep.

some of the best football that you've seen since since
you've been with him?

Speaker 7 (01:24:25):
And if so, why do you think that it is?

Speaker 4 (01:24:26):
I just feel like he's gotten better every year.

Speaker 6 (01:24:29):
That's me.

Speaker 4 (01:24:29):
I mean, so, yeah, I guess answer that question, Yes,
I do. I think he's he's settled into his own
to where he's you know, he's he just continues to
take it another notch and you know, and just continues
to get better process information. The game slows down for him.

(01:24:50):
He's just he's playing at a high level.

Speaker 1 (01:24:52):
Of that from Dan Campbell. Thanks to Detroit Lions dot
Com for giving us the sound there. What statistics are
more most important for you? When it comes to quarterbacks
in the National Football.

Speaker 2 (01:25:03):
League complete some percentage you're winning?

Speaker 1 (01:25:07):
Okay, So there's a couple of checks there. For Jared Goff,
he leads the league and completion percentage at seventy four.

Speaker 2 (01:25:12):
Can I have when are you winning?

Speaker 1 (01:25:15):
When are you winning?

Speaker 2 (01:25:16):
When are you winning? Are you winning the games? Are
you winning on the road? Are you winning in games
where it's like you versus another really good team, you
versus a quarterback. Are you doing the things that you
need to be doing. Is it your situation where you're
helping you're helping the team win, or is it like
you're just going along for the rest?

Speaker 1 (01:25:31):
I get it, yeah, fair enough. I like I will
also look at quarterback touchdown to interception ratio. I think
that's pretty important. People who look at rating all the time,
I don't think they really know what goes into rating.
A lot of people don't. The reason I bring this
up is I would love to know what your thoughts
are on the state of quarterbacking in the National Football

(01:25:51):
League right now. I don't think it's very high. And
here's the reason I say this. I think the culture
are really good. I think Daniel Jones, I'm really happy
before him. I don't know if people are ready to
buy in yet. Justin Herbert, show me something in the postseason,
right instead of the regular season. Drake May's having an
MVP like season and he's been really good. We're really impressed.

(01:26:15):
But again, it's his second year and it's his first
full year as a starter. Matthew Stafford's thirty seven. He's
having an MVP like season. He's been unbelievable, twenty five touchdowns.
Just a couple of picks really happy for him. There
are a few, obviously, Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen
comes to mind, but Josh Allen crapt the bed last week.

(01:26:36):
People don't believe in Sam Darnold. You said, who are
you beating Jared Goff. I don't think there's that. I
don't think there's the bullpen, the depth at the quarterback position,
like there used to be because so many government have questions.

Speaker 2 (01:26:47):
Yeah, and it won't be because all these quarterbacks are
coming out of college the same way. They're going to
all these camps at ten, eleven, twelve years old, and
they learning how to drop back and do the things
and the sexy arm and all the cute stuff. And
they're going to these colleges and allowed to do that.
Bs they're allowed to be on these teams. They're get
on these teams where they can have a lot of success,
but they're really not learning the game. They're really not

(01:27:08):
learning how to read coverages. They got them in you know,
they got them excuse me, they have them be in
a shotgun. They don't have to recoveragees. Everything is RPO,
everything is if this isn't your first read, run the
ball or like, they're not learning how to play the game.
They're not diving into this is what the coverage is.
What do you do if it rolls to cover two?
What do you want to do in this situation? All right,
we need you to tell they're not doing the things
that the quarterbacks that came before them were doing. And

(01:27:30):
you notice it's getting progressively worse, Like all these quarterbacks
are going to the same camps. They're doing the exact
same things. Like legitimately, they're not learning different they're not
learning different rhythm, they're not playing other sports like, they're
not learning the things that really comes with four years
in college, the things that you learn from a good coach,
the things that you can learn about adversity, the things

(01:27:52):
you learn in those big games, in those moments. It's
such a bleep show in college football right now that
these are the quarterbacks that are coming out. That's how
you get a draft class like twenty twenty with Zach
Wilson and Trey Lance got drafted second overall in that
draft class. Somebody in San Francisco said, I am more
impressed with the potential of the athletic ability of Trey

(01:28:14):
Lance versus what I watched the mac Jones at Alabama
and look, I was one of those guys. It was like, look,
Alabama quarterbacks don't do anything because they got all these
all these weapons. Whether it's him, aj Mccaerron, I can
go down the list. Maybe there was a little bit
something more than mac Jones. Maybe I missed on that one.
San Francisco forty nine ers definitely missed on that one.

Speaker 1 (01:28:31):
That's what you're A lot of teams did so true,
But to.

Speaker 2 (01:28:34):
That point, like, that's where we're getting. You're getting a
lot of let me draft this off this potential versus
let me draft this guy, because when I put him
on the board, he could leave my team. He knew
what he was doing, he knew where he was going,
and I'm seeing him fail. Like part of being great
in anything life or good, you gotta fail, Like you
gotta fail, you gotta fail and you gotta see what

(01:28:55):
comes next. Like these guys they're not They're not having
to fail.

Speaker 1 (01:28:59):
Or if they do fail, they move, they go from
one team to another.

Speaker 7 (01:29:02):
Yeah. Right.

Speaker 3 (01:29:04):
I got a question for you, Braylen, because I've thought
about this for a while and I kind of think that,
you know, even in basketball, I think AAU is kind
of ruined the game of basketball. Do you think personally
that set the amount of seven on sevens and the
amount of like social media type of like camps, all
that stuff. You kind of touched on it, But do
you specifically think seven on sevens are kind of ruining
the development of quarterbacks.

Speaker 2 (01:29:23):
I just think playing one sport three hundred and sixty
five is ruined a lot of athletes too, Like you're
legitimately just dialing into football throwing mechanics. You having quarterbacks
throw the ball three hundred sixty five days a year,
Like they're throwing and throwing and throwing and throwing. You
only have so many throws as a quarterback, you only
have so many curve balls as a pitcher, and they're
not tapping out of it. Sometimes you got to put

(01:29:43):
a sport on the show. Like I legitimately played all
the sports. I played baseball in the spring, I played football,
I ran track year lung, I played basketball in the winter.
I dabby it, I dabbled, excuse me, I dabbled in soccer,
played a little bit lacross at U A D Like
I will play all the sports, do all the things.
And then when it was trying to get back the football,
I knew what my number one love was, Like I
knew what I was spending majority of my time was.

(01:30:04):
But I was able to get all those other experiences,
all the other athleticism, all those other.

Speaker 1 (01:30:09):
Yeah, I don't think it's the kids fall. I think
it's the parents and the coaches. I know, I know,
I'm just I'm just I'm just adding to it. I
think the kids you should expose them to as many
sports as possible and let them gravitate toward what they
love like you did, like I did. And I don't
want to sound like old guy, but you've got a
lot of coaches today here are like you know what,

(01:30:30):
I'm sorry, man, you gotta make a choice. You got
a lot of parents who think they're going to be
the next Braillen Edwards and their kid really isn't.

Speaker 2 (01:30:36):
That because they're going to people that tell them we
can get you and do this, and them guys don't
know what the hell they're doing, that's right, So they're
paying all this they're paying all this money to have
these guys coaching that have no knowledge, that have been
on YouTube, Like, man, how do I coach a wide receiver? Okay,
here's a drill. Yeah, here's the drill.

Speaker 1 (01:30:51):
Okay, we're gonna do this, Honey, we gotta buy some cones.

Speaker 2 (01:30:54):
Let me charge this guy one hundred and fifty an
hour to work with your receiver on ride receiver skills.
Guess what, that kid probably not even going to college.

Speaker 1 (01:31:01):
That's right, Yeah, because it's really hard. I remember when
the Lions drafted Chuck Long. They had him throwing first
and second team reps constantly. Chuck Long was a really
good quarterback at Iowa, finished second to Bo Jackson in
the Heisman Trophy candidacy, and they just threw his arm
out right. I remember listening to Mickey Lolitch one time.

(01:31:24):
I did an interview with him, and he said, look,
when the summer was over, when baseball season is over,
we hung up the gloves, we moved on. We didn't
throw in the offseason. That's all these kids do. And
they're throwing their arms out right all this stuff. So
I agree one hundred percent with you in that regard.
That's why last year when people were talking about which
quarterback you're taking, you see all these mock drafts, and
we'll eventually get into that down the road. I think

(01:31:46):
it's a joke when they're bringing in certain these quarterbacks.
They're just drafting them because they need a quarterback, and
if you missfire on them, you're in trouble. Who's the
quarterback in college football today that you really really need
or that you really want? But I get impressed with
I read an article this morning that the number one
prospect is now Joe Fagnano. Who do you know who

(01:32:10):
that is? Anybody?

Speaker 7 (01:32:14):
Right?

Speaker 1 (01:32:15):
He's He's the Yukon.

Speaker 2 (01:32:16):
Quarterback oh south of Danielowski.

Speaker 1 (01:32:19):
Yeah, he's the Yukon quarterback who's thrown for twenty eight
hundred yards and twenty five touchdowns. Hes Tom throwing a pick.

Speaker 2 (01:32:24):
So basically that's what happens each year is whichever quarterback
gets to the most touchdowns with the least amount of picks,
he's going to be number one and move up there.

Speaker 7 (01:32:31):
Board.

Speaker 2 (01:32:31):
Also, these college coaches, they don't know how to coach.
They don't know how to coach in college anymore. They're managers.
And the least you could do is hire somebody that does.
Thank you, like the only position there's two positions. And
I hate this is at the same school and that
school that I'm a rivals with, But I know that
those guys can coach. The defensive line coach at Ohio

(01:32:51):
State has been doing it for years. He is vetted,
he knows what f he's doing this. Larry Johnson senior,
Brian Hartline. He can coach the hell out of some
wide house. He has a te record to prove it.

Speaker 1 (01:33:00):
Yep, And there's no doubt about that.

Speaker 2 (01:33:03):
That's what it is. It's actually coaching and cultivating. They're
not cultivating. They're not trying to get players better year
by year by year three four years. It's like, what
can you do for me?

Speaker 7 (01:33:12):
Now?

Speaker 2 (01:33:12):
We paid you five hundred thousand dollars come to this school,
so come here and do something.

Speaker 8 (01:33:17):
Huh.

Speaker 2 (01:33:17):
I'm eighteen, I have the talent, but you still have
to coach me. You still have to get me there.
Now we're paying you a million, come here and be great.
Brightce Young, We're paying you three point five million dollars.
Go throw some touchdown.

Speaker 1 (01:33:26):
Yeah, and give me some receivers and see and see
Bryce Underwood of Bryce Young which underwear. Yeah, yeah, that's why.
That's why with you when you've you know, kind of
dabbled in that in that role as a wide receiver coach,
you know, maybe that would hit home a little bit more.
I don't know, and you see some of those little nuances.
But it was interesting. I was when I was reading

(01:33:46):
this article, I'm reading about the Yukon quarterback and then
the second name I see is, of course, you know,
out of Ohio State, Julian sand Really.

Speaker 2 (01:33:56):
Okay, he's a he's a good college quarterback for this
era right now, that's what I have for him.

Speaker 1 (01:34:01):
Okay, and then the next name, Ty Simpson. Okay, it's
not that I don't enjoy watching these guys play, although
I've never seen Yukon play this year. I'm just thinking,
that's a first round pick. Really, are you sure about that?
I don't know, man.

Speaker 2 (01:34:16):
The thing that they don't get is, yeah, shot sure
if you want to say, Julian's saying, fine, here's my thing.
He's got two wide receivers are both going first round.
One of them is probably the best player in the country,
unless you're talking about the guy on the opposite side, Like,
you don't have to do much and you got two
running backs in the backfield. This has been the makeup
of Wiole State for the last ten years. That's why

(01:34:38):
only one quarterback and even he fell backwards, which.

Speaker 1 (01:34:41):
Was yes, c J.

Speaker 2 (01:34:44):
Strout. He was the one that kind of ascended. He
was the one that said, Okay, you know what, maybe
this guy did. Maybe this guy can't figure it out
when you're dropping back.

Speaker 1 (01:34:52):
Gate rookie season, but then it's falling off the last
couple of.

Speaker 2 (01:34:54):
Years when you're dropping back and your wide receivers are
Crystal Love and Marvin Harrison and Jackson Smith and Jigbu
and ar Wilson. They were all on the same team.
And oh, by the way, in the backfield is Tradion
Henderson and I can't think of the other running back
they had. This is what you're playing with. It's not
hard to do that. But when you become a first
round quarterback, guess where you're going. Probably going to the
team is not good.

Speaker 1 (01:35:13):
You're not gonna have to, but they will have at
least one wide receiver who's pretty good.

Speaker 2 (01:35:17):
Yeah, but in college you had two running backs and
four wideouts.

Speaker 6 (01:35:21):
No doubt.

Speaker 1 (01:35:22):
When the Lions get ready to play the Philadelphia Eagles,
you know what the conversation usually surrounds Philadelphia is. Besides
throwing snowballs at Santa claus which is overrated. By the way,
push is the tush push. Here's what Dan Campbell had
to say when asked about that play that Philadelphia has
helped make famous earlier this week.

Speaker 4 (01:35:44):
I don't Well, here's why I'm curious.

Speaker 5 (01:35:46):
Man.

Speaker 4 (01:35:47):
You take someone outside of the game, then we're taking
the next thing out of the game. Then you're taking
another thing.

Speaker 8 (01:35:50):
Out of the game.

Speaker 7 (01:35:51):
The pretty soon we're not helping.

Speaker 6 (01:35:52):
We don't have pats anymore.

Speaker 4 (01:35:55):
You're only playing thirty minutes, you know. So that's why
I don't want take it out of the game.

Speaker 12 (01:36:00):
There's a.

Speaker 4 (01:36:03):
You know, it's it's something a team's got a niche,
they found something, they're good at it, and it's for
everybody else to stop. And it's unique and it's physical,
and I just warmed anything. I just don't want to
take anything else out of the game, you know, I
just want to leave the game alone.

Speaker 1 (01:36:22):
We love that agree with it. I know people don't
like the play. I think it is a football play,
and then you need to stop it. Minnesota stopped it
against Philadelphia earlier this year. What are your thoughts on
the touch push?

Speaker 2 (01:36:35):
Only losers want to take the touch push out? And
now hear me out on only losers. Guess who submitted
the touch push. It was a team that lost Opening
Night last year to the Eagles. Then they had to
play them in the playoffs and he got waxed in
the playoffs by him. Can you guess who this team
is because they're in your division. It's the Green Bay Packers.
They were the ones that presented and no we got

(01:36:56):
to get out of here. Why because you got waxed
twice knocks you out of playoffs. I don't like it
for that reason. What I don't like about the touch
puss this particular season, I think it started last year.
Once Jason Kelsey got away from the touch Puss started
to get guys off side, they started to let some
things go the play illegal motions. I don't like that
aspect of it. If you're gonna call a call like

(01:37:16):
you did before Jason Kelsey may have been to Kallis
to keep it on rail. If you can't get on rail,
you guys got to start penalizing them for it, so
that naturally they stopped running to play because like you said,
Minnesota stopped it. If you guys call it the way
you see it and stop ignoring when hands move forward,
when guys start to roll before you snap the ball,
then I hate it and you have to take it

(01:37:38):
out because you're not You're not calling it the right way.
But before that, it was a great play. You couldn't
stop it. And I appreciate Dan Campbell for being one
of the guys that did not vote to move the playout,
and now he's talking out about it.

Speaker 1 (01:37:49):
Why do you think more teams don't run it, by
the way, just so people are aware it really comes.
Nick Seriani had this in Indianapolis. It was a really
good mic up clip by a former Minnesota linebacker Anthony Barr,
who I really liked it in Ucla, by the way,
and he said it. I think it was about seven
years ago. I saw this from NFL films about seven

(01:38:12):
years ago. He said, you know what's gonna happen. He
was talking to a teammate on the bench. You know
what's gonna happen? He said, Well, they're just gonna put
a big guy behind the quarterback and just shove him.
He didn't call it a push or a touch push.
He just said they're gonna get right behind him and
shove him. Well, what happens. Nick Siriani does that when
he's the I think he was the OC or maybe
he's the quarterbacks coach or whatever running game coordinator in
Indianapolis and used it. He actually put in Jacoby Brissett

(01:38:38):
for Philip Rivers to do the play. They had a
tight end, shove him forward. And when he got the
head coaching job at Philly, then it's evolved into what
it is now.

Speaker 2 (01:38:49):
The reason why it's different now and the reason why
I works with him is because Jalen Hurts is the
only quarterback that has ever squatted seven hundred pounds. And
he showed you to Oklahoma, he showed you at Bama.
He shows you all the time. At Philly. I was
you will stop, protect your knees and your back. But
Jalen Hurts is a different type of quarterback. When you're
squatting six hundred, when you're squatting six fifty, when you
put in that that tous push, it's not just the

(01:39:10):
guy's behind you pushing you yourself as strong ass lett. Yes,
so it's much different when he does a tous push
versus insert quarterback here.

Speaker 1 (01:39:18):
See, I think you're dead on. I think it's a
football play. I am in favor of keeping it, but
it has to be officiated appropriately. We saw it Monday
night Philadelphia and green Bay. Philadelphia ran it. Their left
guard was moving at least a full head. Okay, green

(01:39:40):
Bay did that. They're left or right guard flag. So
it has to be officiated much clearer than the way
it is right now.

Speaker 2 (01:39:49):
I will tell you this. Detroit Detroit Lions pay attention.
I'm talking to you. Pay attention. There is a variation
that is coming off of that touch push and I
never said ad of people probably may have thought it too.
I'm not special. But you see the variation last when
they play on was it Monday night?

Speaker 1 (01:40:06):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:40:06):
Against You saw what it did. He didn't go straight,
he didn't he moved out to the left and legitimately
there was one guy there. If that one guy hadn't
to trip him, they would have been a touchdown. So
you know what's coming off that, the fake push push pass. Yeah, Detroit,
be ready for it. Stay home this Sunday night because
that is coming so good.

Speaker 1 (01:40:26):
What do you think that is a read by the
quarterback at all? And which way he goes like any
quarterback sneak would be. Or do you think it's moved forward,
let's move the land, we'll get the first down and
move on.

Speaker 2 (01:40:38):
Now, it's not enough time to think that way. I
think whatever your dominant leg is is the opposite way
you're going because you're using that as a push. So
if he's right leg dominant, he's going to the left
so that he can just plant that right leg and
shoot off that left side. See I'm left leg dominant,
so I will go to the right. I think that's
his plant leg. So your plant leg is the way
you're going on to play like that?

Speaker 1 (01:40:58):
Good? Okay, quick time out when we come back, the
mail bag, and a whole lot more. But first, black

Speaker 1 (01:48:51):
We bet all right, Let's get to the mailbag quickly
because a lot of people have questions, and I know
we've got a number of them. Smash that, like Brunton,
please tomorrow We're gonna bring into uh the quality of
wins and the quality of losses that allows Brayland to
determine his top teams in the National Football League.

Speaker 2 (01:49:06):
You're talking about that QB stuff. Man, you never be
more spot on. There was somebody put this out and
I don't want to talk about who it is whatever,
but they did.

Speaker 7 (01:49:13):
It's not me?

Speaker 2 (01:49:14):
Who is the quarterbacks? Twenty five?

Speaker 7 (01:49:16):
Younger?

Speaker 2 (01:49:16):
Who would you give a max contract to? This goes
to the conversation you were talking about about the quarterback
position being less and less each year twenty five and younger,
who the hell are you giving the max contract too?
Obviously there's one name that comes up and he's and
he's in the MVP candidate right now, that would be
Drake May. Outside of Drake May, are you giving JJ
McCarthy And if you have to give him, are you

(01:49:36):
giving JJ? Are you giving Kayler Williams? Talking about cam
Ward C J. Stroud, Bryance Young, Jayden Daniels, potentially if
the Ron Rocks bow Knicks, Michael Penning Junior Rock perty
Trevor Lawrence. Two of those guys have already got an extension.
There's two quarterbacks on that list that I would entertain
one I pay.

Speaker 1 (01:49:53):
I would entertain Jayden Daniels and I would I wouldn't
do it right now, but I would entertain c J. Stroud.
Those I'm just talking about thinking right, Uh, smash that
like button. We're gonna talk about that morning tomorrow. It's
gonna be a really good discussion.

Speaker 15 (01:50:07):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (01:50:07):
Let's get to those mailbags because they want to hear
from brailin.

Speaker 5 (01:50:10):
Yeah, here's a couple of them for bray Ds. Mercer
asked Brailan what is your forty? Is it still under
four seven?

Speaker 2 (01:50:18):
Yes, the currently the forty is still under four seven.
I'm in the gym every day, so you know, I
get a sense of what I can do and what
I cannot do under four seven one hundred.

Speaker 1 (01:50:27):
Do you run on the treadmill or you run outside?

Speaker 2 (01:50:30):
Outside and when it's summer and spring, I run on
the hills like to get in in the wintertime, I
just on a bike and swimming, okay, bank and swimming. Yeah,
I'm slow.

Speaker 1 (01:50:38):
Swimming is such a great exercise.

Speaker 2 (01:50:40):
The buoyancy, man, I really I love that word, but
it's true.

Speaker 5 (01:50:44):
Here's another one from DS Mercer. Yes, Brailn started with
number eighty and then I got number one. Shouldn't this
be for the rule for everyone going to um out
of high school? Saying with number two for defense? He
thinks people should earn the number one and the number two.

Speaker 2 (01:50:57):
I love him for that. I've always agree with that,
like I'm always agree with That was the first one
that happened to But it was a ride. I think
it made me more appreciative to wear a number that
is one of the most covet numbers in college football.
For a while, it was you know, you look at that,
You look at fifty five in USC you look at
sixty for Oklahoma, like these were the numbers or Texas?
Excuse me that you think about these are the numbers.

(01:51:18):
It's more than just giving a kid the number, because
it's a bargaining chip, and at least if you're gonna
use it as a bargaining chip, at least never mind.

Speaker 5 (01:51:27):
Hey, you know Michael Werry actually got his mail back.
Question in first, I want to make sure we read
this before we close up. He says, do you all
think that Dan should continue to call the offensive players
the rest of the season because he did mention, Hey,
you know what, maybe there's a chance we give the
duties back later.

Speaker 2 (01:51:43):
Hell no, give him back for what. The only thing
I would ask that the rest of the staff now
that he's gonna be calling the play is make sure,
just like the challenge on the cliffand Raymond catch situation,
make sure he's a breast and all the things are
going on. It's tough for a coach to jump into
a court situation during the season because he's an off
he's a head coach man. He's like, I gotta go

(01:52:04):
over here, I have to dial in here, I got
to be listening over here, I got to do all
those things jumping into this, he's going to be paying
so much attention to the offense. He's going to need
people to be in his ear and help him out.
Don't get don't relinquish these this play calling dudes, he
gets it. I think Dan Campbell is not just this
meat hit that everybody talks about. He is very smart
between the x's and o's, and I only reserve brilliant

(01:52:26):
and genius for super Bowl winning quarterbacks, but he is
very sharp when it comes to these x's.

Speaker 1 (01:52:31):
And Alex Sanzeloni said that really well on the Jim
Rome Show yesterday. All I would caution people is what
if they look out of sync against Philly? What if
something happens? Then what are we saying? I'm if Dan
cambll should be calling the places against Piladelphia? Yeah, period, Okay,
I think he should call the plays until he feels

(01:52:53):
that maybe if he's understands things a little bit better.
He said it. I mean, Dan Campbell said it this week.
He said, Look, there was a point in time where
I took it away from Ben Johnson, you know, and
then we gave it back to Ben Johnson. Okay, so
I think that's a possibility, but I sure wouldn't do
it this week. I just try not to get too
much in a moment where Okay, Dan Campbell has fixed

(01:53:16):
everything and he's going to play for the rest of
the year. If they stumble it all, you're right, they're
probably screwed. But I don't I'd love to know just
how much input John Morton has to the offense. I
think they're all helping Dan Campbell. They're all working together.
You know that. You explained it to us very very
well the other day, but for sure against Philadelphia, he's
got to call the place. Looking forward to the football

(01:53:38):
discussion tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (01:53:39):
Looking forward to the Smoothie Kid.

Speaker 1 (01:53:42):
Brayln Edwards high school player of the week as well,
