Speaker 5 (01:12):
He's back.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
We are so fired up. That's awesome news for us.
Lets go nothing against Anson, but love dealing with Anson,
to love talking sports with you on the chat. But
Brailan Edwards is the man whose name this show is
dedicated to us. It's that number one Brailan energy. Yeah,

(01:34):
and he's he's feeling it today for good reason. Okay.
His Michigan team is a bye week and they had
an impressive win last week. His son got it done. Okay,
that's where he was. His son got it done. And
the reason I'm so fired up, I could be going
on thirty six straight hours of notes leading I would

(01:54):
still be fired up today because we get not one,
not two, three Braylan breakdowns. And I'm telling you right now,
I promise you you are going to be glued to
the center. You know, you know what I learned something today.
It's not about following the football. It's about what all
the others guys do about on the football, and that

(02:17):
is coming up here on the Brailen Edwards Show. Really
fired up James Portch. Yeah, it's gonna be. It is
gonna be a slam dunk great show because of that,
all right, Doctor Jeff Pierris joins us a little bit
later on as well. We'll talk some injuries. Justin Fields
has got the concussion, David Fry got hit in the face,
how does that affect him? And Trek schoobl that and

(02:38):
a whole lot more cought up with doctor Pierce. Good
to have you back, my friend. How are you?

Speaker 5 (02:41):
This is how I am?

Speaker 6 (02:42):
Is the microphone ready because I'm about to get Braylan's
breakdown a little bit earlier, but it's gonna be the
youth edition of Braylan's Breakdown. Good to be with you, gentlemen.
I went down to Cleveland yesterday see my son play,
and they had a great game. Laura saw us through.
It was a monsoon that we drove through. Almost had
to step on the road shut like. I almost had
to pull over under one of the overpasses, that's how

(03:04):
bad it was raining. Wow, I'm the way down in
Cleveland yesterday, but Lord saw us through. We got there,
and when we got there, my son did not disappoint. So,
without further Ado kool aid, Ryan, let's get this thing
cracking on up.

Speaker 5 (03:18):
Breakdown Youth Edition. Here we go. You got the clip ready,
rock and roll.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
Oh, that's right by the way. This is a bonus.

Speaker 5 (03:26):
This is a bonus, a bonus.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
I said three, but those were all lions. This is
a bonus for you. Go ahead.

Speaker 5 (03:31):
This is a bonus. So I'm gonna tell you what.

Speaker 6 (03:33):
My son is a little bit like Sonic and also
a little bit like Knuckles. That's right, ladies and gentlemen.
Dave Montgomery as well as Jamiir gives my son is
wearing sixteen.

Speaker 5 (03:42):
He is coming in motion.

Speaker 6 (03:43):
His coach is doing a little bit of his best
Johnny More personation. Now he's wearing sixteen because seventeen doesn't exist.
That's why if you had that question. All right, running
the footage, here we go. Mattis comes in motion, nice
play design, takes ball, he sees it right here.

Speaker 5 (03:59):
He he used the zone. He sees they have collapsed.

Speaker 6 (04:01):
His pocket on the other side, sees a little bit
of daylight, not too much, just a little bit of daylight.
So sixteen doing his best Gail sayahs impersonation. Hit play
on that, please thank you. Ryan bakes a crossfield seventy
seven stands no chance wash the hand knock down on
the linebacker right here, here we go, Sorry sir, you're
out here.

Speaker 5 (04:18):
Now you see him picking up speed.

Speaker 6 (04:20):
I don't eve know what this guy looked at. Now
I told you he was like Dave Montgomery as well
as Jamiir Gibs. Rewind it all the way back, rewind
it all the way back. And I'm actually be quiet
so proud of my son.

Speaker 5 (04:34):
I'm gonna be quiet. I'm gonna let you tell me
when it turns into Dave Montgomery.

Speaker 7 (04:38):
Hit play, Ryan, it's coming up. I feel bad for the.

Speaker 5 (04:49):
Comes that's to speed. Nope, nope, let it play through.
Let's go.

Speaker 6 (04:58):
Running back one more time, one more time. They don't
play like that in this are of these young kids.
They don't want to smoke, they don't want the contact.

Speaker 5 (05:06):
My son, he does.

Speaker 6 (05:08):
Just look at it right here. This is what you
call a flipper in football. This is what you call
a chicken wing. This is what you give somebody a
little shove like that. And just look at him.

Speaker 5 (05:18):
K O D.

Speaker 6 (05:20):
And I'm not talking about Miami running back one last time.
Gotta get the full effect, man, all right, hit play.
You see the moves ran through. This is just a
good play, good play design. He runs through his own run,
much like Jamier grizz and Dave Montgomery, which we'll talk
about later. And then you see the finish. This is
what it's at right now. He was so excited he
didn't even care to finish the play. He slowed up

(05:41):
a little bit. He could a score touchdown, but that's
neither here nor there. Next play for me, because you
know what, he likes to come off the end a
little bit too, get his eight hunches and all. A
little bit of Jack Campbell, a little bit of Brian
branch hit play sixteen off the.

Speaker 5 (05:57):
Edge reads the play wasn't much to read here.

Speaker 6 (06:02):
This is gonna be good, easy peasy. I don't know
what he was doing. He set him up quarterback quarterback quarterback. No, no,
you shouldn't set your boy up like that, comes up,
makes the tackle of his play, does a great job,
stands him up.

Speaker 5 (06:14):
Just the wrap.

Speaker 6 (06:15):
Look at the finish the he finished the play. That's
how you finish the play.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
And then you got the lopper. Last man on pile.

Speaker 5 (06:21):
Has to jump on.

Speaker 6 (06:21):
A little jop gets you a little jump on pile
and then you can show the last one the scene play.
Won't want to overdo him, and this was easy. I
had to show he does getting end zone. Here you
go a little seam route. I don't know what covers
they're playing. It looks like cover nothing, and it looks
like covering nothing like this. This coach got the memo.
Other coach still trying to figure it out. Younger guys

(06:43):
hit play, you get play and then boom there it is.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
Somebody pick up the biggest kid.

Speaker 6 (06:50):
On and what's happens to be my son? And then
the last clip is the score of the game. Fifty
six to six. It's my son doesn't wear gloves, by
the way, so all his catches are it's covered with
the hands. So that's what you get. So this is
why I missed yesterday. It was ghost got put on
a freaking clinic.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
At It's a great reason. You should be happy, you
should be very proud. That's the cover nothing. Thing is
going to live on in infamy. That's awesome. Cover nothing.

Speaker 5 (07:18):
I don't know what they were doing on so.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
Brandt right away in the chat, hey can we can
we listen to sports instead of hearing chet bitch about
everything under the sun? Okay, Brady, you're right, Okay, we
are going to do that because yesterday it was a
little bit of a rant on my part, maybe a
little bit more.

Speaker 5 (07:37):
Doesn't have anything to do with the team that plays
in Comerica.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
Uh, that was a little bit later on. It was
it was about It was about the city Detroit and
what we should be doing. But Brent, I hear you,
and you hundred percent right.

Speaker 5 (07:48):
I'm back, Brent, I got it.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
He's got We could do that, though. I do have
a quick question for people, and I think it's a
fair question because with the Tigers losing their eighth in
a row and now ten of their last eleven and
falling a game back, but still the game up on
Houston in the wild Card, and Detroit gets Cleveland tonight
and then three against Boston. Houston goes to Los Angeles

(08:11):
after playing the A's one more time, And in case
you were wondering, Cleveland gets Detroit of course tonight, and
then they will host Texas.

Speaker 5 (08:19):
So that's how it.

Speaker 2 (08:20):
Works for the rest of you know, the teams you're following.
But the blame game has been vast, all right, Yeah,
from the owner to the president of baseball operations, to
a little bit about the manager, to the players and
so on and so forth. Where do we view the

(08:43):
largest amount the most blame at all? And here's what
I wanted to start with, and then get people in
the chat and get your thoughts too. Evan Petz will
put this out earlier today. The writer for the Free
Press when Scott Harris around the trade deadline, and I
don't want to keep harping on it, but he did
say the flashiest moves oftentimes generate the headlines. They're not

(09:05):
always the most effective moves. A lot of the moves
that we passed on felt like moves that we're going
to haunt us for many years to come. If they
blow a fifteen and a half game lead, they do
something that no team has done since what was it,
nineteen fourteen?

Speaker 5 (09:19):
That's crazy, and that was.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
In a one hundred and fifty four game schedule, a
one forty six schedule. Does that not haunt you? Now, hey, yeah,
he didn't have the foresight. Who would have thought this collapse?
I sure didn't. I don't know many people who did.
But this is the haunting thing that some of the
quotes and some of the sound bites that this team

(09:41):
is putting together during this tough time I think is
really hurting them. Do you agree?

Speaker 5 (09:46):
I would definitely agree.

Speaker 6 (09:47):
Before I talk about who is to blame, because there's
enough blame to go around, but I do believe there
is a pecking order, and I have my number one
in terms of not no one believing this is going
to happen, and no one's thinking this is going to happen. Now,
do I believe anyone first saw this and say, hey,
this is gonna happen at the beginning of the season,
or this is gonna happen at the All Star break,
or this is gonna happen with the Tigers were cooking

(10:09):
the first forty fifty games the season. No, but once
it started falling apart, like it fell apart fast, and
it continued to fall like. There were a lot of signs,
and we asked a lot of baseline questions, and I
myself would ask you the questions, but then I still
would say, I trust Aja hints. I trusted Terrek's Google.
I trusted in fact that the experience that they gained
last year, and I trust if you look at the
you look at the record, and you look at the

(10:30):
you know, the twelve months, like this is the sample size.
It's a big enough sample size to be like they're
the truth, They're for real. But there were signs, and
there were signs that collapse. There were signs that it
would get to a point where we would have questions,
and it did, and then those questions were never really answered,
and then it got too point. Now when we're in
second place for the first time since April twenty second.

Speaker 2 (10:52):
What one hundred and eighty four days, what was the
most glaring sign that maybe we weren't picking up.

Speaker 6 (10:57):
The biggest thing. I don't know if it's the most
glaring sign. But for me, the best thing about the
Tigers last season was the pitching. The best thing about
the Tigers last year in the playoffs was the pitching.
The best thing about when the Tigers were doing their
thing early on. This year, pitching slowed down a little bit,
but the pitching, especially Terry Scougle, the pitching in the
last two months. He has not been pitching that it's
gonna win you games, or win you games in the playoffs,

(11:19):
or even put you in a position to stay in
the space that you were. And the pitching amongst the hits.
The hits don't. I don't talk about it as much
because I always thought they were overreaching. They were overreached
in terms of the hitting. I thought one day would
find this level. But that's cool because the level that
you're at, what you added in labor tours, what you
have now Riley Green, which you have inconsistently or not
in Terrorst. Schooble, it's enough to go with that pitching

(11:42):
that you had last year. It's enough to go with
how aj Hinch was setting strategy up. The pitching changed,
the strategies changed. Aj Hintch coach Beak started looking a
little bit different. The bats disappeared.

Speaker 2 (11:56):
That's big, especially especially in key moment. Yeah, right, like
the pitching you were in September.

Speaker 5 (12:02):
And I'm an obviousite at this so no, no, no.

Speaker 2 (12:04):
You're not You're You're good with it. The era of
five point three two, that pitching chaos stuff we said
earlier this year, and I think a lot of people
echoed it. It's it's really difficult to duplicate sustainable. It's unsustainable,
all right, And my plead for starters going longer obviously,

(12:25):
uh when unheated, they just felt like they they had enough.
The question is do they if they get to the
playoffs and they still have a chance. As we all know,
it's a game lead on Houston.

Speaker 5 (12:41):
Houston stink.

Speaker 2 (12:43):
Houston stinks right now. They've lost five in a row.

Speaker 6 (12:45):
What I'm saying, they lost the athletics last night. I
know you talked about it yesterday, and I know you
had a point going on. But just the fact that
that's the conversation at hell, I know, I know it is.
It's I don't want to harp on it, but I
didn't get a chance to say yesterday.

Speaker 5 (12:57):
Just the fact that that's the conversation is.

Speaker 2 (13:01):
But Briton, we literally have people who don't want them
to make the playoffs.

Speaker 6 (13:06):
Now I've been hearing this, why like for educated a
dumb individual in this regard, Why wouldn't you heart.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
Breaking, heartbreaking? Your pisted like, I'm gonna teach you a lesson, son,
don't touch the stove it's warm, goes to touch it?
Are you grabbing his hand or are you gonna say, okay,
you'll see Okay. I think that's how people feel. I'll
be honest with you. There's a part of me that
felt that, for just a brief moment, I want them

(13:34):
to make the playoffs, okay, because I want this town
to enjoy baseball and so on and so forth. But
there's a part of people, I think, a deeper part
of like I wanted you to do this, that and
the other thing. You didn't do it.

Speaker 5 (13:46):
So now it's you.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
Now you're gonna see And am I wrong there?

Speaker 5 (13:51):
Kool aid?

Speaker 8 (13:51):
You're not wrong at all.

Speaker 9 (13:53):
That is the sentiment people have been clamoring for this
team to take these trade dead lane serious and to
take I'm gonna say that word the super Bowl window serious.
I thought that had a great opportunity. Obviously that opportunity
set themselves up well. But this right now, I can
say that there was some sentiment of people who said,
you know what, I kind of want to see Scott

(14:13):
Harris and this organization really see the foods of their labor,
which I think that we're seeing it right now.

Speaker 1 (14:19):
Not me. I want to see them make the playoffs.

Speaker 5 (14:21):
I just do. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (14:22):
But if I give you a poll question, who's more
to blame? Yeah, I'm gonna give you two options, and
you know what they are. I was Roight Illig or Harris?
Where do you think most Detroiters side with?

Speaker 1 (14:38):
I think that changes today.

Speaker 6 (14:40):
I would have if you had asked me this question
two days ago, three days ago, like I'd say, mostly
choices to say Chris Ilig I think now they're finally
getting to where I have gotten as well as I
think It'scott Harris. I think it's comments like that he
made will come back and on us whatever it means.
You're trying to kick the camp further on down the line,
like I just on top of the things that he

(15:02):
hasn't done well, the.

Speaker 2 (15:07):
Talent quote unquote he's brought in over the last two
years as free agents and at the trade deadline have
a lot to be desired. I mean outside of I
mean Kyle Finnegan's been pretty good, but labor, we haven't
had much labor tours. That's about it. I mean Kentamida,
Jill Roschella. No, I'm serious. That was last year, remember Kentamida,

(15:28):
Gia Orshella, Chris Paddock. This year, unfortunately, Charlie Morton, it
hasn't worked.

Speaker 5 (15:36):
I come into the season when the show was different.

Speaker 10 (15:40):
I had a conversation and the conversation was about a
conversation that I had with someone in front office for
a team in Detroit that is connected to the team
that we're talking about.

Speaker 6 (15:51):
And the conversation was last year in the playoffs and set.
We can disagree on that. I'm just telling you the
conversation that was told to me last year when it
was all up and it looked like they had a
shot in hell in May or late eight what May,
which will be. He said, look, we're gonna bring these
guys up, We're gonna do this. We're just gonna see
what these young guys can do. And they really were
forgoing the season. In his mind and his mind, we're

(16:12):
gonna see what happens. I could be wrong about that,
but this is the conversation. We'll see what happens. No
one expected what happened to happen. And then he doubled
down in the off season this year with the same team.
Just keep this thing rocking and rolling. Yeah, And I
think now you're in a position where just a little
bit of pick up here, just a little bit of
pick up here, not really making the moves that we saw.
You know, everybody can't be wrong.

Speaker 11 (16:33):
I just feel like they're not fully committed to what exactly.

Speaker 5 (16:37):
They want to do.

Speaker 2 (16:39):
What are they doing?

Speaker 11 (16:40):
Like I feel like they're kind of just like, well,
do we want to exactly just build everyone wait for
the kids, build through the farm system, or let's well
we're kind of good and let's get some players.

Speaker 5 (16:51):
Maybe talking about this farm system. I don't I don't think.

Speaker 11 (16:54):
I don't think they're fully committed to what they exactly
want to do.

Speaker 7 (16:57):
Just quit yet.

Speaker 2 (16:58):
See, I think they are, and I think we have
a problem with it. They're fully committed to the youth
in the organization, and we don't want them to be
We want them to be committed to some members of
the youth in the organization, but not that everybody's untouchable,
if that makes sense to you. Okay, they've I think

(17:18):
they showed that at the deadline, and they showed it
in the offseason too. Yes, we are committed. This is
our plan. They've got a plan, and I think they're
committed to it. I just don't think many of us
agree with the plan. I read an article today that
had the goal to say, well, this should be it
should have been expected because they're young, and I thought

(17:41):
to myself, are you f and nuts? They were young
last year, right like they were younger last year. They
had no playoff experience they played. Yeah, okay, but that
was it in the Detroit News read it or I
think it might have been the Free Press, and I'm like,
wait a minute, they're young. Let me think about this
for a second. Labor Taurus is twenty eight. Zach McKinstry's thirty.

(18:03):
If you want to look at age, all right, how
your biases thirty two? Andy A. Banyas is thirty two?
How old is old enough? It's what I always ask
And why was it okay last year for them to
be a big surprise as a young team, but this year,
suddenly that gets in the way. I don't think that
makes sense.

Speaker 6 (18:24):
The one question I asked you last week as it
related to this was will there be a difference because
last year they didn't know what they didn't know, like
going through the season being young guys, like having that rally,
and it just they just were playing baseball. They just
were going out there playing ball and it happened to work.
The city came alive and they just were. They weren't
playing under press. It was like, bleep, we're not supposed
to be here anyway, Like, hey, let's just play ball.

(18:46):
And they played ball. They came together and it was
it was magical. You know, it was magical for the
two you know, the two series that they played in
the playoffs.

Speaker 5 (18:52):
This year, there's expectation, like expectation if.

Speaker 6 (18:56):
You're not ready for it, regardless of how well you
played last year, regardless of what happened last year. When
expectation comes about, when pressure comes about in different circumstances,
nobody was talking about the Tigers nationally last year.

Speaker 2 (19:07):
Or can I ask you a question, Yeah, what's it
like to be hunted when you're one of the better
teams is different? And what is it like to be
the hunter? So give us an example of how it's different,
because to your point, maybe that's what it's about. Last year,
I'll use the cliche free and easy, nothing to lose,

(19:28):
point zero two percent chance of making the playoffs, and
they shocked the world. Sorry Michigan nineteen eighty nine, I
stole all right. This year, expectations super high, come out,
super good, fifty nine wins of the All Star break,
and now they are the hunted, although they were the
hunted for a couple of months during the summer. So

(19:49):
tell me the difference.

Speaker 5 (19:50):
Money gets involved.

Speaker 6 (19:52):
Different deals get involved, Sponsorship gets involved. People talking about
you gets involved. You're now a national brand. It gets involved.
You get to see yourself on late night shows, you
get to see yourself on social media.

Speaker 5 (20:03):
All that comes into the equation.

Speaker 6 (20:05):
Like nobody cared about the Tigers last year into the playoffs,
like they were a darling story, but they still weren't
talking about the Tigers to the Tigers actually got into
the playoffs and then they beat They beat the Astros,
so they didn't have to see themselves on social media,
see themselves on TV, or.

Speaker 5 (20:18):
Hear it like now they've been reading since the season
started World Series.

Speaker 6 (20:23):
Everyone at this network set World Series like and you
weren't here when the season started.

Speaker 5 (20:28):
Everyone at this network said world Series, World Series, world Series.

Speaker 2 (20:30):
I go ahead, ye.

Speaker 6 (20:32):
Okay, still saying still a place they haven't been since
twenty thirteen. So it's different pressures, different things. I give
you an example. This is jass Wort. I played for
the Browns. We were nothing my first year, we were
nothing my second year. All of a sudden, my third year,
all of a sudden, we go ten and six. Should
have made the playoffs. We didn't make it because the
Tennessee Titans beat the Coachs last game of the season.

(20:54):
Peyton Manning and those guys didn't play.

Speaker 5 (20:57):
We go Tennessee's. We don't make the playoffs.

Speaker 6 (20:58):
We made six Pro Bowl It's the first time we've
had Pro Bowls in six seven, eight years. Made we
won seven of eight games at.

Speaker 5 (21:06):
Home, and we were out there playing football. It was fun.

Speaker 6 (21:08):
Nobody had a beat on us. Nobody knew who Rob
Chizzinski was as offensive coordinator. Rember's going out there catching
people by surprise. We played a lot of bad teams.
Fast forward to when we come into the next season.

Speaker 2 (21:17):
A great story. By the way, that's awesome. I love
that You're right. Nobody knew who robbed Chezinski. Go ahead,
and it's fantastic.

Speaker 5 (21:22):
Fast forward, we going to next season. Guess what.

Speaker 6 (21:24):
We haven't had a Monday night football game since the
team has been back in town. This is nineteen ninety nine,
this is two thousand and seven. They haven't had a
Monday night football. We didn't just get one. We didn't
just get two. We didn't just get three. We didn't
just get we got three, and we got a Sunday
night football game, and the Thanksgiving we had five primetime games.

Speaker 1 (21:41):
Nice.

Speaker 6 (21:42):
Now you got guys pressing, what am I gonna wear,
what I'm gonna do, what does it look like? Who
am I flying in? Who's gonna be.

Speaker 5 (21:48):
At the game?

Speaker 6 (21:48):
So it's real, it's real, And now you're trying to
put more pressure on you. Well, now since people are
watching this is Monday night football, much like the Tigers
were on Sunday Night baseball Saturday night baseball a lot,
you start to worry about the things. Now, what am
I going to do in the moment, How's it gonna look?
And I know that sounds stupid, No, it is one,
I don't think.

Speaker 2 (22:07):
I don't think it sounds as well.

Speaker 5 (22:09):
And that's exposure.

Speaker 2 (22:10):
That's an excellent point.

Speaker 5 (22:12):
Critique and asked more questions.

Speaker 2 (22:13):
Excellent point.

Speaker 6 (22:14):
And then you start you start to wrest with those
things in your head because sometimes when you're young, chef,
like you just mentioned the older guys, Yeah, Hoby, how
he has no excuse, like how.

Speaker 5 (22:22):
He has no excuse. Tous has been there, Glary, but
Torres has no excuse.

Speaker 6 (22:25):
But the younger guys, when you're twenty two, you're twenty one,
you're twenty, you're twenty four, you've never had this before. Now,
he was like, maybe i should step up in to
play a little bit because I've been missing.

Speaker 5 (22:34):
I've been coming off.

Speaker 2 (22:35):
What about the guys who have been there, like Scooba
was there last year, Green was there last year, Carpenter
was there last year.

Speaker 5 (22:42):
It's like one guys, two guys. Carbon is still a.

Speaker 2 (22:44):
Young dude, No understand that right, well, twenty seven. But
I and I don't look at you get through the farm.
Yeah I don't. I don't look at it at age.
I look at how many experienjor League Baseball games you
have under your belt. I don't disagree with that. I'm
just saying, if you came up in big moments a
year ago, you felt the atmosphere, you know what's going on,
you know how to expect, you know how to process.

(23:05):
How is it different this time around down the stretch
compared to last year? Where you allow me to use
the youth excuse. I don't buy the young excuse you
and I have seen in every sport young guys elevate
their games as well as anybody else. Can I use
Jalen Hurts for an example, his first Super Bowl they
didn't win. Did he look like he was out of place?

Speaker 6 (23:31):
But some people are being through the temperament, they'll look
at all the Jalen Hurts has been through. He goes
to he goes to Alabama, the best school, the best
institution at the time probably ever if you look at
just that stretch run.

Speaker 5 (23:40):
Then he goes to national championship twice.

Speaker 6 (23:42):
Then he gets then he gets demoted, Then he goes
to Oklahoma, then he gets back to the playoff, then
he gets third and higher than the income like so
he's a it's a it's a it's a career adversity,
it's a career of big moments and finally he came
through on the opposite side. What about Lamar Jackson? Since
you want to go to football highlights, we talk about
the big moment. This is my guy, gonna use himgainst him.

Speaker 5 (24:01):
I'm gonna use my love for him against him. Lamar
can't win into big moments.

Speaker 6 (24:05):
It's something about the big moments where the pressure comes on.
It's something about playing Mahomes in January. It's something about
playing Josh Allen currently in the last two years. It's
something about shoot. I mean that game wanted him, but
the Lions game. There's a disconnect with Lamar and his
team in the big moments, and he's two time MVP.

Speaker 5 (24:24):
Pressure is a real thing.

Speaker 2 (24:25):
Yeah, I hope that's not the case for the Tigers.
I guess when you talk about adversity, it's not like
Kerry Carpenter hasn't faced diversity or Terrek School hasn't faced adversity.
I think it's a little bit of a cop out,
And quite honestly, I think it's the team feeding certain
writers information saying, hey, how about this, We're a little

(24:47):
young to experience this. Oh okay, and I'll write it,
and then suddenly what do you have people going, well,
maybe they are a little young, because look at Torklosin's
twenty five and Greek Listen, they played last year. They
know what it was like on the stretch when Garry Carpenter.

Speaker 6 (25:01):
Hit that home run and in Cleveland. Did he have
his eyes open or were they closed? Because when you're
when you're young and you're just hoping he just going
with closed. I hit a bomb and it worked. But
when this is your two, you can't close your eyes.
You have to have him open and end up on
the other side of the batter's box. Have you buy it, like,
I'm not saying that's them, but I'm saying it could

(25:22):
be an element of it until your Yeah, somebody gave
him a little nugget and he turned in to a
whole meal.

Speaker 2 (25:26):
It's a really good point. Somebody said, stopped talking about
the World Series and the Super Bowl. Shut the blank up.

Speaker 1 (25:34):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (25:34):
Somebody else in the chat said, listen, all the Lions
players were there last year too. Matt Well agreed, and
we chastised the Lions players. We didn't say they were young.
Who said they were young? When you've played in the
NFC Championship Game, When You've won two playoff games? Why
would I make that excuse? We never made that excuse.

(25:55):
I'm talking about people using youth as the excuse right now.
Why is Jack Flaherty got a ring? Am I wrong?
You even win a ring with the Dodgers? Okay, he
got a ring last year? Is that an excuse for
him for giving up a two run bomb last night? Okay?
Charlie Morton's got two rings, folks, and he got d fad.

(26:18):
I just don't buy the youth part. And I think
people are falling back on it. And I hope, I
hope they don't use that as a comfy blanket to
snuggle up with and say we'll be back next year
because last year we were young.

Speaker 5 (26:32):
Here's another question.

Speaker 6 (26:33):
And no, I don't hope they use I mean, I
hope they don't use it as a as a comfy blanket.
Who are the leaders that they can go to? And
I understand how you and but who are the leaders
they can go to? Because that young stuff it does
wear off.

Speaker 5 (26:44):
You do have moments where you need a leader, You
need someone to go to. Who the f are they
going to? Who can they call on the phone? VP?

Speaker 2 (26:54):
Smart? Who like? Who?

Speaker 6 (26:55):
Are they dialing in watching film? What are the conversations now,
the youth, now, the experience comes into play if you
don't have that person at the.

Speaker 2 (27:04):
At the you were watching your son kick the crap
out of a team in Ohio. That's was one of
the questions Ryan asked at the very end of our show.
And I told Ryan off there, I said, we're picking
that up with Braylan. I didn't even need to have
you go there. I didn't need to leave.

Speaker 5 (27:19):
You there like fire up tips.

Speaker 2 (27:22):
Yeah, the word great can be overused. But here here's
the thing. I'm just kidding. I don't know. When they
grabbed Javier Bias and they want a title with the Cubs.
I told everybody who would listen, I like Javier Baias
as a person. He's a nice enough guy. There are

(27:42):
three other short stops I wanted. But okay, so they
got him. He's not a leader. He's not one of
the guys you go to. It was hidden in Chicago
with Lester and Rizzo and guys like that.

Speaker 6 (27:54):
Just none is You don't you can be a good
teammate and not believe absolutely you guys know that we're
not saying he's a bad teammate.

Speaker 5 (28:01):
He's a great teammate.

Speaker 2 (28:03):
He's not a leader exactly. I mean, the guy's like him. Okay,
he shows up early, he plays hard, all that other stuff.
And I respect that, I really do. He's not the leader.
Your question is excellent. Look at the other teams in
the market. And I know right now kool Aid's going,
Holy crap, chef, please get to a break in a minute.
Look at the other Look at the other teams in

(28:23):
the market. Okay, kool Aid. Kate Cunningham's a he's a
good leader. He grew as a leader last year. You
could see the stuff that he was saying. There was
a game in which Ron Holland got really pissed and
Kate Cunningham grabbed him, pulled him off to the side
and said, hey man, in so many words, right, hey man,
get it together, don't be selfish. It's about the team.

(28:46):
So the leadership was there. Tobias Harris is a good leader,
all right. You can learn from guys like that. The
Lions have a plethora of them.

Speaker 5 (28:53):
We know that.

Speaker 2 (28:54):
I wouldn't have to go over the Red Wings leaders
are good. I mean, Dylan Larkin's a good leader. I
think Lucas Raymond could be a good leader. They can
learn from Patrick Kane, they could learn from James Van Riens.
Like this year, maybe they learned from a guy like
Jonathan Gibson. We'll see the Tigers. You're looking for somebody.
And I could be wrong here, but I don't think
pitchers can be leaders. I had that argument justin Verlander

(29:16):
years ago. Who is it who's taking the mantle? And
that's a J.

Speaker 5 (29:22):
Hinch can't do everything exactly.

Speaker 2 (29:23):
A J.

Speaker 6 (29:24):
Hinch can't exactly, just like school can't do everything. AJ
Hinch can everything.

Speaker 5 (29:27):
He can't.

Speaker 6 (29:29):
He can't police the dugout. He can't police what you're
doing when you guys aren't playing. He can't police what
you're doing you're traveling. He can't be the one calling
everybody out all the time because it gets stale.

Speaker 5 (29:37):
Oh my guy, were tired, Well, I'm tired you striking out.
I'm trying.

Speaker 6 (29:40):
You're going up there with bases loaded, and like just
things like that. With bases loaded, you had two people
come up and go three pitch strikeouts, three pitch out.

Speaker 5 (29:49):
Like, who's the guy that can be?

Speaker 6 (29:50):
Like, what the are you doing? Because the good teams
have those guys like the good Team. Have those guys
you coming to the dugout and sit you down?

Speaker 5 (29:58):
What's going on with you? What's up that that's unacceptable?

Speaker 7 (30:02):
Like?

Speaker 5 (30:02):
Is everybody friends? Everybody cool?

Speaker 6 (30:03):
You don't want to hurt anybody's feelings because if you
have a bunch of guys like that, it leads to
things like this. Let me ask you a question. You
know what, I know you want to get to a
commercial break. Yeah, A little thing that happened, though then
it came out. They made a quick media mention about it,
and then he never talked about it again.

Speaker 5 (30:18):
We've talked about it off air. To happen with the Tigers?

Speaker 6 (30:21):
Is there other things going on around the organization that's
distracting the whole?

Speaker 2 (30:26):
Well, that's an excellent point. I don't think it affects
the players, does it not? But I don't know that.
I don't know that. Randall Small said, there's no Kirk
Gibson in there. You're right about that. Facts facts, Yeah,
I mean, I guess sometimes I worry about the emotional
part of things because we all coach, we all parent,
we all do things differently, and we all love our city. Yeah,

(30:48):
absolutely so. Do they need an askture, do they need
somebody to kick him in the pants? Is that what
people are looking for? I'm just asking, is that the
remedy for what's wrong? Because if that's what you're looking for,
I don't know if you're going to get it. I
don't think they have somebody who does that.

Speaker 6 (31:04):
Yeah, so this goes back to Scott Harris. Next time
you're picking players, when you're looking at players to bring in,
make sure they can't only play. Make sure they're not
only out there hitting bombs, which you know or you know,
striking people out. Make sure they're guys that can lead.
Make sure they're guys that have that element that have
been talked about, guys that you have vetted when you're
going through the process, and that's what's coming back from them.

Speaker 5 (31:26):
You know what. This guy also leaves the dugout. He's
leading the locker room. This is what he is. This
is what comes with being all right, and this is
what we need. And even though a bunch of quiet guys, that's.

Speaker 2 (31:36):
Why they wanted Carlos Korea, I might add, okay, I'm
not saying he would have been the difference, So don't
take it out of context. That's why they wanted Carlos
Korea because people went to him. Think about it for
a minute when everybody was yapping about jose L Tuve
and the shirt and they thought it was which to
me was kind of funny.

Speaker 5 (31:52):
But yeah, don't get mad.

Speaker 2 (31:54):
Who's who's the guy? Who's the guy who came out
and defended him?

Speaker 5 (31:58):
So you see, you know Chris Carter, right, he's.

Speaker 2 (32:01):
The one who came out. It wasn't Alex Bregman. Bregman
quiet well, he was, you know exactly, it was Carlos Korea. Now,
whether you think it's right or not, the point is
he's the guy who was willing to stand in front
of everybody else in the meeting and say, hey, leave
my guy alone. He's the protector, you.

Speaker 5 (32:20):
Know that part right there.

Speaker 6 (32:22):
He's able to understand when a teammate needs him, Like,
that's what the leader is.

Speaker 5 (32:26):
Whether it's for good or bad.

Speaker 6 (32:28):
Whether I need to light a fire under you rather
I got to say something to you crazy and crash
out on you, or whether I got to have you back,
whether I show you some loyalty, whether I show you
some love in the moment that you needed most. That's
what the leader is that's what leader can do and
it doesn't have to be loud, but it's just the
fact that you do these things.

Speaker 9 (32:43):
And shep you mentioned the good players rush the leaders.
You talked about it as well, bray And when you
mentioned those players, it's awesome to see that the Lions
were able to draft those leaders too. And what Scott
Harris the hope here is the players that he's now identified,
the young ones, are they going to be leaders?

Speaker 5 (32:58):
Because you look at the.

Speaker 9 (32:58):
Players who are depending on now, even though they're good
players from probably the previous regime, they're not necessarily leaders.
So I'm hoping that at least the future recipe has
something more to do with identifying those types of players,
because even when you talk about k that was one
of the reasons why they went after it.

Speaker 2 (33:15):
But he had to learn that, right, he had to
learn that. I think certain guys and Braylan can speak
to this. Certain guys. It's just innate with them, right.
I mean, Larry Bird was like that. Larry Bird's like,
I'm not caring anybody, God bless a bag. Okay, I'm
not putting water in your water bottle. Okay, I'm here
to play I'm here to win, and everybody was like,
oh okay, and then.

Speaker 6 (33:36):
You go out there and start winning, you go out
to start doing things, and then it's like it's like,
you know what, I'm just going to be quiet.

Speaker 5 (33:42):
Back it up, because number thirty three is that.

Speaker 6 (33:43):
Deal you asked me about football versus baseball in terms
of why we can't get a Lions the young excuse
last year, it's because of the head man. And it's
no knock to aj Hint because he's if not the
best skipper in the game, he's in the top three.
Football and baseball are different because the Lions operated to
the beat of Dan Campbell's drunk ever since he's been here.

Speaker 5 (34:01):
He's the guy. He's the guy they're listening to.

Speaker 6 (34:03):
He's the guy that is setting the temple in practice,
setting the tone in training camp, setting the tone to
the media, setting the tone during the season. So they're
operating like him. So although they're young, they're coaches, and
a coach is a former players. I think that kind
of helps in football.

Speaker 2 (34:17):
Maybe I think you're one hundred percent right about that.
I mean, we all know a J.

Speaker 1 (34:20):
Hinch is.

Speaker 2 (34:21):
You know, he does something similar and yes, he played
in the pros. They all know that played for Team
USA was a really good catcher. But I think you're
You're absolutely right. Football is different than baseball. It's a
it's a tough example, but it's it's something that I
think a lot of people are talking about right now,
and I'm glad Ryan brought it up yesterday. I'm glad
you brought it up generically, because leadership, how we measure it,

(34:43):
how we look at it might be different. But I'm
not sure there's a guy who is willing to do
that the way Isaiah and Lambierd did back in the day,
the way Draper and Chelios did it, and Darren McCarty,
who sits in the seat a lot of times, those
guys are invaluable. Be the best player. Like Jarren McCarty
wasn't the Redmen's best player, he's a pretty damn good leader.

(35:03):
Chris Draper wasn't their best player, but he's a really
good leader.

Speaker 6 (35:06):
One I'm saying, you can look at shoe hal Towny,
You're like, look, I think he's a cool dude, but
is he a leader of the team. No, you can
look at a Bryce Harper. If I ask everybody, right
now as Brice Harper leader, everybody will say yes, like
whether you like him or not, because a lot of
people hate him, and that's fine. He appreciates that. It
drives him and gets them going. But whether you like
him or not, if I said is he a leader?
What is everybody going to say?

Speaker 1 (35:26):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (35:27):
And sometimes you grow into the position, like somebody in
the chat said Caid was a leader in college. Stop well,
but you would admit his first couple of years, especially
when he was injured. It's tough to lead when you're
like that, and when you're a rookie you're still learning things.
He leads differently now and I think it's blatantly obvious.
We're late for a break, but it's a great conversation.

(35:48):
One of the best leaders we know is Ven Johnson,
and Ben Johnson loves to lead the way. Here on
the Brilliant Edwards.

Speaker 9 (35:54):
Show, sixty three percent of the people right now are
going with Chris Illic ask who's more to blame for
the Tigers clop he might need Ben.

Speaker 2 (36:04):
I see, I thought kool Aid was going like this.
I just led the Ben Johnson kool Aid starts to
go here, Rayler looks at me, like what the hell
is going on? And then kool Aid brings it right
back to Brail and tease it up for him. Well done, chef,
hold a chef.

Speaker 5 (36:18):
Well look, let me tell you that self.

Speaker 6 (36:20):
So I'm gonna disagree with the Chris Illius because he's
not withholding any fund from any of his players.

Speaker 5 (36:25):
But Ben Johnson, he will make sure that you get corport.

Speaker 6 (36:29):
The government, even your insurance company will do whatever it
can to minimize your their lineability. And withhold your conversation.
You work hard for your money. You work hard for
your bridge. The players work hard for their money, so
you gotta pay him. They want to get you paid,
and the guy to do it for you will be
Ben Johnson. When it goes wrong, you make sure that
he is the first person you called.

Speaker 5 (36:47):
Not your mama, not your daddy, not your grandma, not
your brother, not your uncle, not your wife, not your husband.

Speaker 6 (36:51):
It's Ben Johnson because he's the one that's gonna make

So you said judgment twice Judge, I think Aaron Judge
two homers last night.

Speaker 5 (41:33):
He's got fifty and fifty one.

Speaker 2 (41:37):
Just because cal Rawley has two runs. The Big Dumper's
got eleven multi homer games this year.

Speaker 5 (41:42):
It's twelve to the record.

Speaker 2 (41:43):
Eleven that's tied the record, twelve would break the record,
twelve would break the record. The other guys who who
had eleven multi homer games in a season. Babe Ruth MVP,
Sammy Soso MVP, Hankering Birder MVP nineteen thirty eight. That's
all good stuff. Just like right now. Sun Cruiser Vodka
iced Tea is really good stuff, real vodka, realized tea,

(42:06):
no bubbles, just a clean crisp sip. Braylin's asking for

I mean it is perfect for tailgates. It's perfect to

of the week. Check Out the Tigers taking on the
Guardians tonight. Check out the Thursday night football game with
sun Cruiser Vodka Iced Tea and Woodward Sports.

Speaker 5 (42:30):
And we bet.

Speaker 2 (42:31):
Now we talked about the Tigers and the collapse. Okay,
that's easy to do when you've losing eight straight and
you lose ten of eleven and the other team has
to play really well. I would just remind you, and
this doesn't this doesn't help any of us right now.
The Mets on June twelfth, we're forty five and twenty
four they had the best record of the majors the

(42:52):
Mets did Since that time, they are thirty five and
fifty four and they are trying to to a wildcard spot.
All I'm saying is we're not alone. It's also a
good way to bridge the gap until Braylan gets back
in the seat and gives us what we really want.
That is Braylan's breakdown.

Speaker 5 (43:11):
Man.

Speaker 6 (43:11):
To make sure the clip was right, man, Ryan and
I have to work on it. Ryan got it right.
So here we are. I tease you earlier with my
son's game. Now we're going to get to the main event.
We have three highlights for you today. We got one
is Jamis and Williams rot. I want to talk about
that Jamison Williams, excuse me, Jamison Williams. Then on the
second one, we'll talk about the defensive stop where Lamar
Jackson fumble on the fourth and two, and then we'll

(43:33):
do the day Montgomery run.

Speaker 5 (43:34):
But we'll start here.

Speaker 6 (43:35):
The reason why I want to highlight this is just
talking about Jamo. Protection is great across the board. We'll
talk about that. Everybody does what they were supposed to do,
but I'm just happy that Jamo is turning more into
a wide receiver running ross understanding concepts. You can tell
he's working with number fourteen. Now watch therout up top.
It's cover two. Cover two. The dB is designed to

(43:56):
push the wire receiver inside. The reason why that can
hurt the wide receiver on this play because if he
gets too far inside, Jared Golf will not have a
window to.

Speaker 5 (44:04):
Throw to hit play.

Speaker 6 (44:05):
All right, Jamo gets inside. You see the see the
dB try to funnel him inside.

Speaker 5 (44:10):
Hit play. What Jamo does is a good job, and
we'll see it on the next copy.

Speaker 6 (44:16):
All right, catch go back one last time, just so
they can see him. Seam released, and then we'll go
to the back copy.

Speaker 5 (44:22):
All right, I just want you to see Jamo in
this copy. All right.

Speaker 6 (44:24):
Here we go seams release, seam releases on the cover two,
dB hit play and he kicks back out. Now go
to the back copy. I'll show you why that makes sense.
You see this zone right here, see this whole hit play,
hit pause. So he's seeming over here. DB's pushing him in.
Jamo does an amazing job of pushing back out. He

(44:47):
gets Is this the only other copy we had? The
other one had you could see Jamo all right hill,
play on this. Let me see this one. He'll play
on this one. Oh yeah, this is the one right here.
So Jamo avoids the voids depressed, gets it. Hit play
and watch him winding back out. He goes back outside

(45:07):
the numbers and then he comes in his window very soft.

Speaker 5 (45:10):
Go back to that, go back to that. This is
work right here.

Speaker 6 (45:13):
Jamo wasn't doing this last year, coming in getting friendly,
stands soft so he doesn't overshoot the zone. Hit play,
takes it inside, gets back outside.

Speaker 5 (45:25):
Which is key.

Speaker 6 (45:26):
Holds this safety that we'll see stays in his own
catch the pass. Now go to the back copy now
we can see it. Now, we can see it now,
hit play. You've seen this already outside and now look
at it. Him getting back outside.

Speaker 5 (45:38):
Creates the space, pulls the safety.

Speaker 6 (45:40):
This way because now the safety thinks Jamo's taking off.
Safety is getting ready to take off. Oh shoot, Jamo's
going deep. He runs for two. I gotta get out
of here. Linebacker is now what is he doing?

Speaker 5 (45:52):
Because of this?

Speaker 6 (45:53):
He's winding over just ever so much. Look at Jared
Goff selling it with the eyes. By the way, look
at the protection big as I'm from. We said they
couldn't black and one boy, did they fix that? Jared Goff,
nice clean pocket, taking his time, selling the linebacker, selling
the safeties. Now what are they doing over there? They're
going that way because they're not in the play. And
look what happens. Jamo sells it. Hit play, gets down there.

(46:17):
Look look at the window. Now look at the throw
by sixteen.

Speaker 5 (46:20):
Rewind it, man, Look look look at the.

Speaker 6 (46:23):
Dot by sixteen sells them, sells them right here. It's
got the eyes the whole time. He knows he's dropping
this ball just over Rubens left, I mean Roquwan's right shoulder.
Hit play and then look at that dot h the thing,
it's so perfect. Gobout that past is. Watch Rokwan Smith's
reaction when he realizes he's been duped, like what he

(46:46):
feels like he's in the play. Rewinded just a little
bit more. He feels like he's in the play right now. Okay, cool,
I'm about to make it play. Jared Goff about to
do what he does in Baltimore, throwing inceptions.

Speaker 5 (46:55):
They said he can't throw outside. I'm waiting for it, all.

Speaker 6 (46:58):
Right, throw me the ball, Jared Goff hill play and
watch him. Ah shoot ah, shoot, nothing I can do
about it. Hell of a job by everybody in the play.
Go to the next play. Now, this play is called
the Jack Campbell play.

Speaker 2 (47:12):
This what is so good? I mean, you're gonna learn
so much on this play. You can go through every
single defensive player. Wait do we see this?

Speaker 6 (47:17):
So this is called the Jack Campbell play. We understand
what happens to Jack Campbell. He rushes, he gets the fumble,
Lamar picks it up. Loss of eighteen on the play.
No touchdown turnover as a matter of fact, but everybody
has something to do with it. Great job by Kelvin
Shephard to design this play. Here we go, hit play
and let it run until pause. This is gonna be

(47:42):
a three play go. This is a three way go.
You want Lamar to run it in, you want Mark
Andrews to come off. We all know this famous play
because Mark Andrews did what in the playoffs. He dropped
it on the two point conversion. And or you want,
excuse me, Zay Flowers to run across the back pyelot

(48:03):
and then if you can get to your fourth raade,
which only two or three quarterbacks in the league can do,
which he's one of Rashad Bateman is gonna come back
on the back against Tarryon Arnold. This play is designed
so well. You see the push from the big fella.

Speaker 5 (48:17):
This is a late stunt.

Speaker 6 (48:18):
He's pushing everybody this way and it's a man and
man play.

Speaker 5 (48:21):
I'll show you what you get. Hit play.

Speaker 6 (48:25):
All right, hit play right now, take it back. My apologies,
I got excited. Take it back now I can break
the play down. Brian Branch is the first one on
this play that you need to watch. Brian Branch has
Zay Flowers. Jay Flowers is the fourth three guy. We
know he's fast, we know he's shifty. This is who
he really wants. He wants him back there. Watch the
coverage of the guy that they said couldn't cover, of

(48:45):
the guy that they said struggled in coverage, which is
why he went in the second round. Brian Branch in
the slide right here, hit play boom bom. He's reading it,
he's reading it, he sees it, stays behind him, plays
it front. Hit play, got a little hands. He guess
what can call it? So I don't care. It stays
with him now Lamar knows I can't go there dead option.

(49:07):
Lamar is now trying to look at Mark Mark Andrews.
Maybe because of what happen last year he doesn't trust
Mark Andrews, or maybe because he sees that it's three
on one, which means two on him. I'm not gonna
take him, and he's got guy's charge to hit play now,
Alex Azelone, you asked, why is he over there? Why
is Dereck Henry wide open on the back? Hip play

(49:27):
every wine?

Speaker 5 (49:28):
Derek Henry is not open on the back. This is man.

Speaker 6 (49:32):
Here we go, Alex Azeloni, his job. It's twenty two,
mister fumbleitis.

Speaker 5 (49:37):
Here we go.

Speaker 6 (49:38):
Hit play once, Alex Azeloni, seize Lamar commissed to this side.
Now you got an extra man. You got Jack Campbell
who was assigned to Lamar. Alex Azeloni, who now doesn't
have to worry about twenty two. He's on Lamar and
DJ Reed is the spy for Lamar.

Speaker 5 (49:56):
Down here to red Zough. Dj Reed is your spot.

Speaker 2 (49:58):
So it wasn't one of the linebacks.

Speaker 6 (49:59):
It wasn't want to linebackers. Lamar's Jack Campbell's man is Lamar. However,
the spy is DJ Reed. Hit play now? What did
I tell you? They should not do state disciplined in
the past lands and do what don't leave your feet,
use your arms. We talked about this. Watch what Jack

(50:20):
Campbell does. It's very deceptive. He doesn't leave his feet,
he doesn't jump off the ground and give it Lamar a.

Speaker 5 (50:26):
Three way go or two way go.

Speaker 6 (50:28):
He hits him with the Kenny Pikett fake slide, but
instead it's the fake jump. Now rewind a little bit
why it's a Oh, I'm coming, No, I'm not, I'm
still coming.

Speaker 5 (50:36):
Here we go, hip plush. That was funny. I know
you're gonna give me for that.

Speaker 6 (50:39):
Later him play watch that puts his hands up, confuses
him but never really leaves his feet.

Speaker 5 (50:45):
Hit play and it's right there. DJ jumps, but it's
all good. It works out.

Speaker 6 (50:54):
DJ jumps, but all good, It works out. And you
got everybody on. Everybody got Kirby Guarden, Mark Andrews and
looking with Terryan, who they talk about a lot. You
got Terryn Gardener, shot Babman who is not open based
on the coverage, and then Brian Branch what he did.
This is an excellent job. Everybody all the way around.
Rellinded all the way back.

Speaker 2 (51:14):
When we were talking about this earlier. You made it
a point to talk about the d tackles.

Speaker 6 (51:20):
So it's a late stunt for Jack Campbell Kirby and
then freeing Alex Azelone. You'll see the big man. They
pushed the line this way. They take this collapse offensive
line so the Lions can't come up, free up and
do the song of dance when Lamar's trying to go
left and right and all the things. They push them down.

(51:40):
They shut that off. Now you have a bunch of
free guys. You got a bunch of free defenders coming
after Lamar Jackson hit play. Watch how they just collapse
the line. Boom takes it here we go, takes the
whole offensive line in here, including Tyler Lindebaum, one of
the best in the game.

Speaker 5 (52:00):
And now you got you got what you.

Speaker 6 (52:02):
Got to see Lamar look like this, just look so
confused in this space which Lamar owns.

Speaker 5 (52:10):
Like to see him look disconfused and just have nowhere.

Speaker 6 (52:13):
To go with the ball, to have nobody throw the
ball to, to have nowhere to run to, not be
able to make a Lamar Jackson play like this is outstanding.
This is outstanding. Kelvin Shepherd designed hell of a defensive play.
He put him in a great position. He was ready
for fourth and two. And not only did he do that,
you got eleven guys executing. Eleven guys executing. That's why

(52:33):
in my defensive fantasy.

Speaker 2 (52:34):
We usually don't see Lamar Jackson get hit behind the
line of scrimmage and stayed down like Jack Campbell. His
ability to wrap up the anticipation and as you pointed
out last week, don't leave your feet when it's Lamar
Jackson against you is perfect.

Speaker 6 (52:50):
Everybody's doing what it's supposed to be doing what they
did with him. Like usually, you'll see Lamar still be
able to get to the line of scrimmage. You'll see
Lamar be able to get to getting out of bounds.
You'll see Lamar be able to ball out of the
end zone. They put him in a situation where he
couldn't do anything. They had their hands up, they were
in their rush lanes.

Speaker 5 (53:05):
They double team.

Speaker 6 (53:06):
Well, they got off the guys that they were on
when they were supposed to. They covered the guys they
were supposed to. This is an excellent job. Like this
right here is you talk about and talk about Super
Bowl like this is how you get there like players like,
this is how you get there. Last play all right
for you guys that want to talk about the run game,
the offense touchdowns. Here we go speaking of another another

(53:29):
coordinator that they said, could he fill the shoes? Could
he come and provide offensive? Yo, that's where I was
looking for congruency.

Speaker 5 (53:36):
We're here, you go.

Speaker 6 (53:37):
This is the inside zone running scheme that I was
talking about. They're going to start with a chip on
the nose tackle. You're going to get a chip on
the nose tackle by Christian Mahogany as well as uh
not Christian Mahagan last guy and Tay raleych hit play
go back, all right?

Speaker 5 (54:00):
Play here we go.

Speaker 6 (54:02):
First thing, we're gonna give a shout out to play
a little bit. Watch the physicality of Graham Glassgow. We
talked so much stuff about Graham Glasgow. We want in
terms of he has to be more physical at the
point of attack. He's the center. The calls have to
go left and right. It starts with him. Well, he
heard us in the last two games.

Speaker 5 (54:19):
He's physical.

Speaker 6 (54:20):
Lady, to tell me here, play just let it run
for a second. Just just watch him for a second.
Just getting physical gets the chip on the guard, go back,
gets the chip on the nose, tackle and gets to
the linebackers.

Speaker 5 (54:30):
His job is to chip, go back, go back, go back.
All right, here we go.

Speaker 6 (54:34):
His job is to chip, and he's instantly looking to
get to the linebacker.

Speaker 5 (54:39):
Quick chip, get to the linebacker. Look what he does.

Speaker 6 (54:41):
He chips, leaves him over there with tape, go through,
gets it matched up right on the linebacker here, get play,
gets on the linebacker.

Speaker 5 (54:51):
Then piny suwe comes off. You know he's gonna do it.

Speaker 6 (54:53):
He just look at this zone hole Penate Drives, roquand Smith.
You got tape driving out or Graham Glasgow. Then you
got Kyle Hamilton. Kyle Hamilton is the point person on
this play. If Kyle Hamilton comes in the box, If
Kyle Hamilton is in the box, Dave Montgomery's gonna take
this outside. If Kyle Halilton stays on the out side,

(55:16):
Dave Montgomery's gonna find his own.

Speaker 5 (55:17):
Read, which is this hole right here? Hit play.

Speaker 6 (55:20):
Kyle Hamilton goes down, and then look what Dave Montgomery seids.
Just look at all of this space. Dave Montgomery does
not get touched.

Speaker 5 (55:28):
Hit play.

Speaker 6 (55:31):
First time he gets touched it's ten yards down the field.
Ten yards down the field. Rewinded one last time?

Speaker 2 (55:39):
Does Graham Glasgow call that blocking scheme.

Speaker 15 (55:44):
On him?

Speaker 6 (55:44):
Based on what these guys wide receivers getting in on
the action? Watch this? Who said Khaliff Ramon was just
a return Who said Kleief Raymond was just a small guy. See,
we all thought it was Amar ros Saint Brown that
made the hit on Kyle Hamilton. Watch Kyle Helmilton, your
motion man, that's Kalif Raymond. Wat two hits Kyle Hamilton.

Speaker 5 (56:05):
Hit play eo boh, that's Khalif Raymond.

Speaker 6 (56:11):
This is Kalif Raymond getting a hat on a hat
with the number one safety in football.

Speaker 5 (56:17):
He doesn't care about that. He's doing his job. Hit play.

Speaker 6 (56:20):
I thought it was Khalif that was supposed to back
Marlon Humphreys, which Marlon Humphries ends up making the play
Khalif blocked Kyle Hamilton. I'man ros Saint Brown got caught
off guard because it was such a great block.

Speaker 5 (56:31):
He missed the block on Marylind Humphrey. But this is football.

Speaker 6 (56:34):
I've shown you two plays back to back of eleven
individuals doing what they're supposed to be doing and an
offensive coordinator and a defensive coordinator putting them in the best.

Speaker 5 (56:42):
Position to do so.

Speaker 6 (56:44):
If you had any questions about either one of those coordinators,
good examples right there. Proof is in the pudding. And
then I showed you a guy that's trying to get better.
Jamo had those two passes on the first two drives,
and guess what he's doing the rest of the game.

Speaker 5 (56:57):
Hit play, hit play. All it takes is just a
little bit. All it takes is just a little bit.
That's all you need. This is this is what this
is what Dave Montgomery wants to see. He wants to see.

Speaker 6 (57:09):
The back of the wide receivers jersey because that means
the wide receivers pushed.

Speaker 5 (57:13):
The dB or herd the hell he's blocking the other way. Now,
this is what he sees.

Speaker 6 (57:17):
I got the big fella and I got a little
big fella doing their job. Ladies and gentlemen, seven yards later.
Play that's all you gotta do. That's all he did.

Speaker 2 (57:29):
That's all you need is considered a good block. It's
a great wide receiver.

Speaker 5 (57:33):
Yeah, I'm counting those yards after contact. They were.

Speaker 6 (57:37):
And so here's Marlon Humphrey. If he gets covered at
the beginning, gets a touchdown.

Speaker 2 (57:42):
Well, can you take it back just for a minute, Ryan, please,
because you were a track guy. L Humphrey sure looks
like he's a track guy too. He is because he
gets caught out in the wash there. But look at
the amount of ground cover. Yeah, he covers a lot
with a long stride.

Speaker 5 (57:56):
Yeah, but this also starts to though, like, explain.

Speaker 2 (57:59):
What you were telling me earlier about the running.

Speaker 6 (58:01):
All right, so go all the way back. Look where
he starts seven yards back. So when he starts running,
hit play, I'll start counting. He's already been running for
seven yards twelve yards. By the time Marlon Humphreys actually
starts to run and starts to take it here, he's
already been running for thirteen fourteen, maybe fifteen yards hit play.

(58:24):
So as he's getting tired, now you see Marlon Humphrey,
he puts his foot in the ground.

Speaker 5 (58:29):
That's why he catches Demo.

Speaker 6 (58:30):
Demo has been running for sincely ten eleven yards already,
so he gets a little when Plus he's a big guy,
he's physical. It happens comes with the territory. So this
is it's championship football.

Speaker 2 (58:41):
That's championship, television, streaming, radio, whatever you want to call it.
That is championship and that is unbelievable stuff Like I
just love it, and I hope people in the chat
do as well. It sure seems like it. That is
Braylan's breakdown on a regular basis. I was excited once
a week. It's fantastic.

Speaker 5 (58:58):
I was excited for this one.

Speaker 6 (58:59):
And because, as you know, when we break down the
Jack Campbell player, when I went to look at the
videos given, I thought that Jack Campbell.

Speaker 5 (59:07):
Play was one thing.

Speaker 6 (59:08):
I thought there was you know, a player or two
that I would talk about, most notably him. You start
watching that play, everybody's doing their job. Everybody is dialed
into what the play call was and how to execute perfectly.
And then the same thing on offense. So when it
football is like this, I don't care what position you play.

Speaker 5 (59:24):
It's fun.

Speaker 6 (59:25):
That's it exciting, and it's engaging. That was championship football
this past Monday. But now it's sound for them to
forget about it because the next week it starts tonight.

Speaker 2 (59:35):
It'll be it'll be a hell of a test, I
think against Cleveland. I think so. I don't know if
people are alert to this. I'm sure they have done
some research. But just to help you out, the Browns
have held every one of their opponents to under two
hundred and fifty yards so far this year. They played
the Bengals with Joe Burrow by the way, and I've

(59:56):
gained them three hundred and twenty seven to one hundred
and forty one. They lost the game, but you know,
the defense was really good. They played the Ravens in
Week two and got blown out by the score of
forty one to seventeen. They're the only team to ever
hold Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry combined for less than
one hundred yards rushing in a game. So they you know,

(01:00:18):
they got screwed because of their special teams and because
their offense wasn't very good. Okay, they lost to fumble,
they gave up the block punt, there was an interception.
Ravens had three scoring drives of less than twenty five yards.
So this is why sometimes numbers, I think can be
really misleading.

Speaker 6 (01:00:33):
How much how many Rosie yards did you have against
the Lions, Henry and Lamar together under hundreds. Henry was fifty,
Henry was fifty six, and Lamar I had him on
a fantasy I don't think he I don't think he
cracked forty.

Speaker 2 (01:00:48):
I'll search it up, Yeah, search that up for us.
If that's the case, then the Lions become the second
team to ever do that. So thank you for that.
And then last week the Browns beat the Packers. They
gave up two hundred and thirty yards to Green Bay
in that stunning upset. And I know how people are
looking at it with the three scoring drives in the

(01:01:08):
final under five minutes and the game winning field goal
point is green Bay's got a pretty good offense. We
saw week one and Cleveland's defense rose to that proverbial location.
It's gonna be it's not gonna be easy to move
the fall the ball against those guys. I wouldn't think, no.

Speaker 6 (01:01:23):
I mean, this is the NFL. Man you're starting to
see week by week. You know it is the NFL.
Any given Sunday, things can happen. I think you'll see
with the Cleveland Browns, their defensive line is real, their
defense in general as well.

Speaker 5 (01:01:34):
They come to play Jim Schwartz.

Speaker 2 (01:01:36):
He's just he's good.

Speaker 5 (01:01:37):
This is what he does.

Speaker 6 (01:01:38):
He's damn good as a defensive coordinator. He's got those
guys playing in its fight and they're playing, which for
Cleveland seems interesting. They're playing together. That's one thing about Cleveland.
They haven't been a together team, whether it's due to
the locker room, whether it's due to coaching, whether it
due to the ownership, whether it's just due to the moves
or the people in their locker room. But that defense
looks real. And that's one of the things we talked
about before the season is the d Lion is that

(01:01:59):
the Lions will play in the first six weeks, and
this is one and one that highlight it. You know,
he got a they got a rookie Mischian guy down
there that had to warn about being in Ohio. Side note.
You saw I had my missig and stuff on.

Speaker 5 (01:02:10):
And I was about to say that too.

Speaker 2 (01:02:13):
That's good stuff, by the way, just real quick. So
when we finished and then go Ryan two point three
yards per rushing attempt against the Cleveland defense. That's it.
And they are third in the league in sacks, so
that defense, to your point, is real.

Speaker 5 (01:02:24):
Go ahead.

Speaker 11 (01:02:25):
Yeah, a couple of donars Brail and I'm glad there's
some toughness in Ohio with your son being down there.
I know they lack it a little bit.

Speaker 2 (01:02:30):
Yeah, but uh in.

Speaker 11 (01:02:32):
The Lions game, Derrick Henry fifty yards, Lamar Jackson thirty
five rushing yards, so they held him to eighty five.
And to your Mason Graham point, I saw this Mason
Graham forty three percent past rush win rate against the
Packers and the average for a d tackle is nine percent.

Speaker 5 (01:02:48):
Brailing. Where did he go to school? By the way,
Let's go blue.

Speaker 2 (01:02:52):
You know, it's interesting when they made that pick Ryan
and everybody. I think there were a lot of people
who were critical of it, and I remember some really
impressions from Cleveland camp that Mason Graham really isn't all that.
He's been a wrecking ball so far for the Browns.
It's been really good.

Speaker 6 (01:03:12):
I just didn't understand anyone that saying that he wasn't that,
and maybe whatever that was, Like Mason Graham is that.
Like he is the reason with another guy too, that
Michigan beatlehiuse date and one of still one of the
most confusing wins that I've ever seen with my own
two eyes.

Speaker 5 (01:03:27):
Like he is too good.

Speaker 6 (01:03:28):
He's one of the best defensive lineman ever come to Michigan,
and we've had some studs.

Speaker 2 (01:03:32):
Kenneth Grant was good too.

Speaker 6 (01:03:33):
That's why I said, another guy, he's a stout studying there.
At the end of the day, when you're talking about
a Miles Garrett, if you're talking about a TJ. Wade,
if you're talking about Aiden Hutchinson, for those guys to
be the best that they can be, gotta have guys
in the outside. I mean, it's gotta have guys in
the middle. Gotta have guys in the middle. Cam Hayward
does that ring a bell. He's been there every single

(01:03:54):
one of the TJ Wat's MVPs.

Speaker 2 (01:03:55):
I'm just saying, they all help each other. That's that's
the beauty of what it is, the ultimate team sport.
Without question. We do have a poll question up right
now in the chat. Kool Aid invites you to vote
on that as often as you can. We'll give you
an update on that. There is also a very surprising
list from some established people within the National Football League

(01:04:19):
that I think has Detroit a little bit lower than
they should be in one specific category. We will get
to that coming up on the Braylan Edwards Show. Don't
forget right around three forty or so, Doctor Jeffrey Pierce
will join us to talk about injuries, who might be in,
who might be out in certain things, and of course
we get the mailbag. We always want to go from
here ten minutes before the top of the hour. Let's Stanford,

(01:04:40):
Buick and GMC has great offers for everybody if you're

When you think of the National Football League and you say,
let's when you think of the Detroit Lions, what's the
first thing you think of?

Speaker 5 (01:10:48):
I know where you're going, so I'm not gonna say it.

Speaker 2 (01:10:51):
You come on, person, I'm talking about anything.

Speaker 5 (01:10:54):
How good the culture, how good the talent is.

Speaker 6 (01:10:57):
Yeah, they've been drafted, how the contracts and how they take.

Speaker 5 (01:11:01):
Care of them all the time.

Speaker 2 (01:11:02):
A lot of positives, right, A lot of positives, right,
So a lot of it starts from the front office.
I would guess the athletic came out with what I
would consider pretty interesting and debatable poll of which they
took a lot of the executives in the National Football League.

(01:11:25):
They took head coaches and executives across the league, and
they asked them to vote on the best front offices,
the best National Football League front offices. We have that, right,
we have that for coming up. Okay, so what do
you think let's just do Let's just do top ten. Okay,

(01:11:49):
if I gave you the leeway to do that, where
would you go with it? Where's the what's the first
team you would you would look to Eagles spouts say that, yeah,
I would agree with that they received. They went first
place votes, second place votes, third, fourth, and fifth, and

(01:12:09):
then they totaled it up. All right, How you could
vote for the Eagles being fourth or fifth? I have
no idea. They're no worse than top three. They received
eleven first place votes, no other team received more. That
makes sense. They also received seven second place votes, no
other team received more, and they received three third place votes.

(01:12:30):
So the Eagles were number one. Now, I want you
to keep in mind, this is not necessarily just about
last year. Okay. This takes into account what they've been
able to build all right. This is players on the field,
this is culture within their organization. This is front office scouting,

(01:12:55):
everything that's associated with it. Twenty nine general manager's, head coaches,
and executives pulled.

Speaker 5 (01:13:04):
Right.

Speaker 2 (01:13:04):
So the Eagles are one. Who do you think is
two Raves?

Speaker 5 (01:13:08):
I would say Chiefs, Rams and Ravens should be in
that order.

Speaker 2 (01:13:11):
Yeah, I would have said the Chiefs as well. It's
the Ravens. Ravens are two. They got nine first place votes,
six second place votes, four third place votes, three in
the fourth spot, two in the fifth spot, so they
finished fourteen points behind Philadelphia.

Speaker 6 (01:13:30):
I don't have a problem with that at all, considering
the front office they can lead you to water, they
can't make you drink players and the coaches that can't
close the deal.

Speaker 5 (01:13:38):
So yes, I like.

Speaker 2 (01:13:39):
I'm with you on that, Ryan said the Rams. I
like that, guess. I think the Rams are a top five.
They are three, okay, so they've done a really good job.

Speaker 5 (01:13:51):
You don't like them at three?

Speaker 2 (01:13:52):
I do, I said, I think their top five. I
would have put Kansas City ahead of them. I would
have put Baltimore ahead of them.

Speaker 5 (01:13:59):
I like the Rams and I think for them.

Speaker 6 (01:14:00):
The reason why I like him is the fact that
three and a half years ago, Lesnie had the phrase
FM picks and he used that to switch all the
picks around. Send things to Detroit, send things other places.
He picked up Jaalen Ramsey, picked up Matthew Stafford along
the way, and then they win the Super Bowl. He
then proceeds to have Aaron Donald retire. A bunch of
the foolishness happened, and then it only took him two

(01:14:23):
seasons or a season to turn around and get back good.
And the Rams are still a top team in NFC.
So I want to look at it from that lens.
That's why I like them. But to your point at
Kansas City, like they got three, they got three, they've
been to five.

Speaker 2 (01:14:36):
Yeah, Sean McVay, I think is part of that. I
don't know how much responsibility he and less sneech the
front office higher, but yeah, that's something. Andy Reid and
Brett Viach working combination two.

Speaker 6 (01:14:47):
Features just struggled in the draft the last couple years,
and I think that's why they're down Because if this
was conversation was two years ago, Chiefs are number one
and the Eagles are number two, maybe even three. At
that time, but now you flip flop and you see
how their drafting has affected them, how they struggled with
some of their top draft picks. They've had to move
off some players fast soon whether they be and he's

(01:15:07):
a first round picks, Clyde Edwards, Hilaire Xavier Worthy, what's
he going to be? I know he's injured, but what
is he as a player? And they's had a lot
of misses in the last two years. I think that's
why they've fallen down, because they did win fifteen game
last year, went to the Super Bowl.

Speaker 5 (01:15:23):
But I think it's that stuff that people are paying attend.

Speaker 2 (01:15:25):
It's fair enough Eagles, Ravens, Rams, number four, the Bills,
so the Bills and what they've been able to do
on a pretty regular basis. I'm sure Sean McDermott again
has something to do with with Brandon Bean. I hope
it has nothing to do with, you know, the television show,
the television show on HBO Hard Knocks, But I thought

(01:15:48):
it does give you a good window into how they
worked together. And it's obviously working for Buffalo. But they've
got Buffalo at number four, so number five they got
Kansas City, so a little lower than I probably would
have rated them. But they've got Kansas City at five.
You noticed I haven't hit the Lions yet. Number six,
they have Tampa. What do you think about that? That's

(01:16:09):
a little controversial, I think for a lot of people.

Speaker 6 (01:16:11):
I don't have a problem with it. Once again because
what was this four years ago? What did they do
the Super Bowl years? But not even about they went
out and got Tom Brady. Yeah, they went on got
Tom Brady. They bring Tom Brady in, They went and
got Rob Brinkowski. They did all the things that Tom
won and then helped them. Maybe you give it Thoms
some credit to, but they did that. Tom retires after

(01:16:32):
having three really good seasons him maybe not the team
so much.

Speaker 5 (01:16:36):
And then what happens. They bring in.

Speaker 6 (01:16:38):
Baker Mayfield, they started drafting, well, these added pieces like
Elijah Cansi bringing Megabuka this year.

Speaker 5 (01:16:44):
They won the division three years in a row.

Speaker 6 (01:16:46):
And this is after everybody thought it was gonna fall
apart because the goat retired. So just looking at it
through that lens, that's that's pretty respectful.

Speaker 5 (01:16:53):
I agree.

Speaker 2 (01:16:54):
Even before the goat got there, Jason Licked was thirty
four and sixty two. His winning percentage for thirty five
and a half percent. He got a long runway at.

Speaker 6 (01:17:05):
That job because it's because it's Floyd's Tampa perhaps Tampah.

Speaker 2 (01:17:10):
So there you go, Tampa at six. Uh you think
the lines are next?

Speaker 5 (01:17:15):
Nope.

Speaker 2 (01:17:16):
Seven is the Packers.

Speaker 11 (01:17:19):
It's gonna piss a lot of lines fans off, and.

Speaker 2 (01:17:21):
Probably rightfully so is it justified?

Speaker 6 (01:17:26):
They went picked up Josh Jacobs last year. I thought
that was a big pick up. They picked up Michael
Parsons before the season starts this year. You know how
that affected the division? The shakeup of that. You replace
Jordan Love, excuse me, you replace Aaron Rodgers with Jordan Love.
And whether however you feel about Jordan Love, Zavier mckinneya McKenny.
You went, No, you went and got Xavier and Kenny
from New York Giants that you absolutely rams acquisition that

(01:17:48):
you made.

Speaker 2 (01:17:51):
First rounders have been pretty good. Vness and and Walker
pretty good?

Speaker 6 (01:17:55):
Yeah Waerson and Lucas Vans uh Kwight Walker. Then you
got some guys that left. I've actually there are some
pretty good players what you had to trade away for
Michael Parsons.

Speaker 5 (01:18:03):
These are some players that you drafted, some good players.

Speaker 6 (01:18:07):
Are they holding on to the super Bowl they won
in twenty ten? Perhaps because everybody you name is won
the Super Bowl except the Bills. Everybody on here is
won the Super Bowl within the last one of the
green Bay Packers win ten, so fifteen. Everybody want Baltimore's thirteen,
So everybody wants in seventeen twelve years.

Speaker 5 (01:18:25):
Yeah, no, but they have.

Speaker 2 (01:18:27):
But they have won a Super Bowl, is your point?

Speaker 5 (01:18:29):
Yeah, they won one. Yeah. I think that's why they're
holding on to Green Bay.

Speaker 2 (01:18:33):
So you're right, the Eagles, the Ravens, the Rams, the Bills,
not the Bills. Okay, Kansas City, the Buccaneers, the Packers
have all one.

Speaker 5 (01:18:40):
And the Bills have.

Speaker 6 (01:18:42):
I text you that the Bills have the best quarterback
in the leave per your measurement and per a lot
of people's measurements.

Speaker 5 (01:18:47):
So that's they got the guy. He's a m VP. Right.

Speaker 2 (01:18:50):
So at eight you think this is where the Lions
come in Seattle. It's not at Seattle.

Speaker 1 (01:18:58):
Seattle.

Speaker 5 (01:18:59):
See once again, super Bowl been two.

Speaker 2 (01:19:05):
How far back they.

Speaker 6 (01:19:06):
Had the Lion's numbers for a while, yeah them. Yeah,
that's another one. That's twenty thirteen.

Speaker 2 (01:19:10):
Yeah, how far do you do you go back. Yeah,
that's that's the thing. I wonder a loud. I'm not
saying to love like I would have Detroit ahead of that,
but maybe there's some bias there, So feel free to
throw some arrow. So that's fine.

Speaker 6 (01:19:22):
I think that's the day of day. Yeah, de choice
is better than them. De choice ahead of them? I
don't understand.

Speaker 5 (01:19:27):
I do know.

Speaker 6 (01:19:27):
Their GM was that Schneider, right, Josh, he was there
when I was there, brought me in, so.

Speaker 5 (01:19:32):
Cool guy, he gets it.

Speaker 6 (01:19:33):
But they've just been kind of trading water. They've been
drafting well, they've drafted, well, they've bought in some pieces,
but they even draft. If you want to give them
credit for moving off Russell Wilson and collecting a bounty
from the Denver Broncos, then by all means add that
tit the equation. But I wouldn't put them above the Lions.

Speaker 2 (01:19:52):
Yeah, there was a time where they went out and
gave Matt Flynn a lot of money.

Speaker 5 (01:19:56):
I was there, that was one time ago, and I
never played him.

Speaker 2 (01:19:59):
Yeah right, maybe because he didn't deserve to play so anyway,
so they're at number eight, and then it's the Lions
at number nine. Where should the Lions be positioned because
and here's the surprising thing, not that they didn't get
any first place votes. I wouldn't have expected that, all right,
I would have expected if you're looking at twenty nine,
I suppose if the Bucks or Bills get one or two,

(01:20:23):
and the Bucks got two and the Bills got one,
why couldn't somebody have voted for Detroit. That doesn't disappoint
me as much as the fact that only two people
thought they were second, two people thought they were third,
three people thought they were fourth, four people thought they
were fifth. So they got the same number of points.

(01:20:43):
If you will, as the Seahawks, are we too sensitive
because we have seen such a bad product for an
extended period of time, and now we're seeing a really
good one, and we want everybody else to take notice
like we do.

Speaker 6 (01:20:57):
I don't have a problem with the list outside of
the Seahawks, and I think the Bills too, to be honest,
I know they got Josh All, but I think they've
done better. The Bills have had a bunch of people
that they paid they have to resulting in nothing. How
many guys that they pay on that defensive side of
the ball in the last five years don't even play
that anymore.

Speaker 5 (01:21:11):
How much money are they on the hook for. So
I don't like that.

Speaker 6 (01:21:14):
But I just think people are sensitive here because I
think the same reasons why. You know, you talk about
the players that Brad Holmes has made, that he's drafted,
things that they've done, and look at the players, look
at the numbers, and look at what we've gone.

Speaker 5 (01:21:26):
To where we are.

Speaker 6 (01:21:27):
But the other side of Brown Holmes that we complain
about is what we're conveniently forgetting about in the ranking
like this, the moves he has not made, the things
he has not done, the players that he has drafted,
the free agents that he has bought in that have
been injured, that continues to get injured.

Speaker 5 (01:21:42):
That hurts you during the season.

Speaker 6 (01:21:44):
Now it hasn't hurts the last two games, but I
think things like that they stack up against you. And
then when you add the final caveat, which is no
super Bowl, I think that's how you get pushed down
to eight. That's more so what it is no super Bowl,
and the things that we talk about that dang, why
want to do this?

Speaker 5 (01:22:00):
Why won't you do that? Or I would have gone here?

Speaker 6 (01:22:03):
Or you see how this reflected I think those things
they're hyping up a little bit more than we are.

Speaker 2 (01:22:08):
I think if there's if there's a team that has
a legitimate gripe more so than Detroit, it would be
San Francisco. Yeah, Okay, San Francisco is listed on this
top list below the Lions. And if they're doing this
on Woodward Sports in San Francisco, First of all, it's

(01:22:28):
not as good because it doesn't have Braylan's breakdown. But
second of all, they're complaining that they're behind the Lions
and just ahead of the Texans because John Lynch has
done a really good job there.

Speaker 5 (01:22:38):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:22:39):
They were besieged by injuries last year. They've drafted well,
they've acquired well, hello Christian McCaffery, and they developed well.

Speaker 5 (01:22:45):
They've also moved off some players. Well, they've also moved on.

Speaker 2 (01:22:49):
When a lot of people were scratching their heads about.

Speaker 6 (01:22:50):
That is right, I'm gone, ah you go, ah, you go,
And it worked out in their favor.

Speaker 2 (01:22:55):
And it's worked out in their favor.

Speaker 5 (01:22:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:22:56):
So I think they're the team that has the most
legitimate gripe right now. Yeah, But I mean that's the
fun thing about it. Hey, you want to update the
poll question? Uh, kool aid, and see where folks are
at regarding Yeah, yes, sorry controversy.

Speaker 5 (01:23:10):
Yeah, and I wound up ending the poll as well.

Speaker 9 (01:23:12):
The people they closed that gap actually wound up being
a little bit closer uh than the prior I think
seventy three percent for Chris Slige. It wound up being
fifty eight percent of the blame for Chris Siligs forty
two percent of the blame for Scott Harris.

Speaker 5 (01:23:27):
What do you want Chris ology to do? Out of curiosity?
And this isn't me defending Chris Ilitch.

Speaker 6 (01:23:31):
This is just asking a simple question, what is it
that you would like Chris Villige to do?

Speaker 2 (01:23:35):
They want him to spend money.

Speaker 5 (01:23:37):
But was he was he trying to spend money or
dollar bills?

Speaker 8 (01:23:40):
Y'all?

Speaker 6 (01:23:41):
So as I past offseason, then he then he offered
the money to the player that you that people wanted,
and then he offered the.

Speaker 2 (01:23:47):
Bag then yeah, yeah, they offered Alex Bregman one hundred
and seventy one plus, they gave him twenty eight and
a half a year to a lot of money, and
he turned him down.

Speaker 5 (01:23:59):
What do you want to do?

Speaker 2 (01:24:00):
So the money was there, he did spend twenty five
million on Jack Flaherty irresponsible, spend fifteen million on Alex
Cobb completely irresponsible, gave the okay and fifteen million dollars
for labor Torres. I don't think it's Chris Ilice going
to the agent and saying, hey, I want Braylan Edwards
for this much money. I think it's Scott Harris doing

(01:24:21):
that and saying, hey, Chris, this is how much money
I need to get him. Do you okay it? What's
he going to bring to the table? This this okay?
Check again. We're not defending Chris Ilich. There's plenty of
things that I think he could do better. But I
think if you're looking for player signings and he tried
his fourteenth right now in payroll, when it comes to updated,

(01:24:44):
okay updated through the trade deadline, because you're bringing on
some contract fourteenth, I don't know where people expect them
to be.

Speaker 5 (01:24:52):
I don't think it's Chris Illig's as fun.

Speaker 6 (01:24:54):
I think it's if you want to blame Chris Ilige,
what I always say is this Scott Harris is bringing
He's fleecing Chris Ilige, and Chris Iliche is allowing it
to happen like if you want to get mad at
Chris Illige and mad at Chris Illis for not doing
his homework and not understanding that these aren't necessarily the
move that we should be making and not okay. But
I think he's also called in the conundrum where it's like, well,

(01:25:16):
I watch across the street. You know Brad Holmes. They
trust him the lion. Sheila trusts Brad to make the decisions.
She trusts Dan to then cultivate the decision. So maybe
I should just stay out of it. I'll okay it
and let it happen. And sometimes you have to step in,
you have to say so.

Speaker 2 (01:25:33):
He could have stepped in and Scott Harris came up
with that quote we started the show at and could
have stepped in and said, hey, I don't know what
you're thinking with these, but we got a chance to win.
We need to go for it. Okay, we got a
chance to go to get a guy like Merrill Kelly,
who I brought up a top line starter for you.
Let's go and do something like that if you want to.
That's why I say. If you want to blame him

(01:25:54):
for that, I'm all for it. Just don't use the
financial aspect of it. And as you know, Chuck says,
really and Chris, no, we're not Chuck, are you listening
at all. We're not defending him. We've said it twice.
We're giving you this scenario. The general manager of the
president of baseball operations is the one who identifies the
players that they want to go get. If we want
to blame Chris Ilich, we will do that and blame

(01:26:16):
him because what he should have done to Scott Harris
and said, listen, we've got a really good opportunity here
in the American League. I'm engaged with this baseball team.
We got a really good opportunity. Who are you trying
to who trying to protect on our farm systems? Who
he's trying to protect? Go out and get who you
need for crying out loud, and we'll worry about the

(01:26:38):
prospects later.

Speaker 5 (01:26:40):
Sure.

Speaker 2 (01:26:40):
But from a financial standpoint, from a money standpoint, spending aspect,
we're just giving you examples of that he has spent.
Whether you like him or not. It's amazing how people
it's like you gotta It's like I say to my
kids all the time. You hear me, but you're not listening,
you know, what I mean.

Speaker 5 (01:26:56):
So my dad tells me, Yeah, it's probably true.

Speaker 2 (01:26:58):
I get it. Some people say the same thing about.

Speaker 5 (01:26:59):
Me also too, people who make comments so you can
read them.

Speaker 2 (01:27:03):
Well, then, uh, success from Chuck, because I did read it.
Anything else that you want to get into kool aid
before we take a break up, don't forget. We got
doc coming up in about ten minutes.

Speaker 9 (01:27:14):
Ah, that's right. Yeah, it was just over texting with
the doc. But uh, you know again, just if people
didn't hear it earlier, Happy birthday, Happy birthday, k coming
here and Chncy Billows.

Speaker 5 (01:27:26):
There you go.

Speaker 6 (01:27:27):
I love Chauncey Billers Man, Like Chohncey was one of
those guys like I told you, like I always tell
a story like Stackhouse was like my first big brother
with the Detroit.

Speaker 5 (01:27:34):
Pistons, and the next one was Chauncey.

Speaker 6 (01:27:37):
When Stack left Stack with I mean Chauncey, he would
never when I got in the club, he would never
let me go in the clubs, like he was trying
to keep me out of the clubs. Well, man, I
think I met Chauncey my sophomore year, you know what
I'm saying. So he was trying to keep on clubs.
Then when I started going into the clubs, he was like, hey,
that was in that cup. I said, just what, I
don't drink.

Speaker 2 (01:27:55):
Yeah, he's uh. I've said this for a long time.
Some of the best leaders I've covered for all the
years I've been in Detroit. He's one of them, right,
Nick Lidstrom's one of them. But Chauncey phillips Is is
definitely one of them. Chris Pielman's one of them.

Speaker 5 (01:28:08):
Here talking about leader. Yeah, I say that listroom was
in Birmingham Roast.

Speaker 1 (01:28:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:28:13):
Really really like the way those guys go about their
business and get after it all.

Speaker 7 (01:28:17):
Right, quick time out.

Speaker 2 (01:28:19):
Doc Jeff Pearce is coming up at about three forty.
We're gonna talk about some injuries and then we get
the mail bag of three point fifty here on the
Brelan Edwards Show. But now a word from black Rock.

Speaker 5 (01:28:29):

Speaker 1 (01:28:51):

Speaker 5 (01:28:52):
You gotta feed the beast.

Speaker 6 (01:28:53):
You gotta come to black Rock twenty percent off of
the food will as well when you mentioned what it was,

single day, cheesy pull apart fish in chips with the
brid Oh my god, it's getting hungry and just thinking
about it. Look, man, it maybe some are over falls here,
but the fall still sizzles.

Speaker 5 (01:29:14):
And it sizzles best At black Rock bron Grill.

Speaker 2 (01:29:17):
We are watching the Ryder Cup warm up a little
bit in a little bit of rain as they get
ready for Day one tomorrow, and it reminds us that
we like things pretty simple, don't We like on the
golf course the gimmes to keep the round going a
little bit, something that's not real complicated. Lady jeans haircuts
for men feels the exact same way. Not necessary that

(01:29:38):
they're going to give you a three foot putt. They

time is valuable and they want to make things really
easy for you. So you can just drop in, walk in,
sign in, and boom. The next thing you know, you're
in a chair and you're out the door shortly thereafter
with a really good looking haircut. Lady Jeans Haircuts for
Men open sevent days a week, ten till eight, and

I didn't stunt a lazy John. When the Lions win,
you win.

Speaker 6 (01:30:27):
These are the type of individuals that we partner with,
and we love our partnership with black Rock the Lions.
When you when you go in after the Lions win,
you get an appetizer. And guess what it's free now
to mention, you get twenty percent off the food bill.
So get a free appetizer. You know, man, you can
do the math. Go to Black Rock. They're waiting for you.

Speaker 2 (01:30:42):
Okay, what's the appetizer that will tickle everybody's proverbial fancy?
You get the commercial that I would love to know
what your your favorite appetizer would be. Okay, so they've
got they have. They have choppedstick chicken, they have I

(01:31:04):
he tuna, volcano shrimp, winner uh, bubbling shrimp on a stone,
coconut shrimp. I'll take it. Lobster dip, spinach, artico, artichoked dip,
or Brussels spro. So give give me the one. I
just ridge a number of Black Rocks appetizers going up.
Volcanomp volcano shrimp.

Speaker 5 (01:31:24):
I'm a shrimp.

Speaker 2 (01:31:25):
Make it to me too, I mean not much shorter
than you. What about you? Kool aid?

Speaker 7 (01:31:30):
Hey?

Speaker 9 (01:31:30):
You know what, wife and I we got a round
over there to Black Rock. Shout out to the episode
with matt Uh and they said that you guys did
a wonderful job out there for Grandma's birthday. But we
love the spinach. Like there were many things that we liked.
We tried a couple of different habitizers.

Speaker 2 (01:31:48):
But whatever that spinach with the people. Okay, my wife
would love to sit at your table. I would sit
at the table next to you.

Speaker 11 (01:31:56):
What about what I'm saying that I'm saying that kool
a table.

Speaker 5 (01:32:01):
Excuse us are the choked. I don't like shrimp.

Speaker 11 (01:32:06):
I've tried it many times.

Speaker 2 (01:32:07):
I just don't like the volcano shrimp and or coconut
shrimp either one. Put it on the table and you
can turn your head and might be gone by the
time you turn back.

Speaker 6 (01:32:16):
I ate too much coconut shrimp. Atter restaurant, not one time.
Somebody's despot. I used to go to a lot. I
can't eat any more coconut shrimp. Like I wore myself
out of cooking. I don't like coconut.

Speaker 5 (01:32:26):
That's right.

Speaker 2 (01:32:27):
We'll share the volcano shrimp and now we can go
back to commer.

Speaker 5 (01:32:30):
We'll get the shrimps campy too. That's good too.

not very nice.

we'll talk about maybe here in a minute. Tonight. My
wife's got book club tonight.

Speaker 5 (01:34:47):
Guys book club, book club?

Speaker 2 (01:34:50):
All right, okay, support give them a lot of credit.
I do, ask her, what do you talk about what
we talked about the book?

Speaker 1 (01:34:59):
Really?

Speaker 2 (01:35:00):
Okay, that's interesting. What if you didn't read the book. Well,
so they've got the wine, they've got the appetizers, they
got all that stuff. So she said, you're on your
own tonight. I said, that's fine by me. I've got

You know what, you know what's coming up at four
o'clock right leaving the Ryder Cup Friday.

Speaker 5 (01:36:49):
Per the announcement.

Speaker 2 (01:36:50):
Yeah, team USA is pretty young, see stas like.

Speaker 6 (01:36:56):
This is why I say, like Lamar Jackson, like it's
just an interesting conundrum.

Speaker 5 (01:36:59):
E his name in Baltimore.

Speaker 2 (01:37:03):
You hear me out? You love coming back to Lamar?

Speaker 5 (01:37:07):
I do because it's fun.

Speaker 6 (01:37:08):
It's entertaining it right, I feel like the wills are
falling off, so it's fun to watch because side note,
I really believe that they're in trouble. And that's why
I think if they're the team that loses to the Chiefs,
they're really in trouble. You just talked about the first
team in ten years to hold them under one hundred.
Guess what it happened back to back with Yeah, right,
like what happens against the Chiefs.

Speaker 5 (01:37:27):
But here we go.

Speaker 6 (01:37:28):
QB's with nine passing touchdowns on zero interceptions through the
first three games of the season. Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers,
Patrick Mahons, Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Payton Man,
all of them went three, and oh Lamar did it.

Speaker 5 (01:37:42):
He's one and two. Wow, that's an interesting stat. It's
just one of those things where it's like it's a
team game.

Speaker 2 (01:37:49):
But damn, here's another interesting one regarding the game of football. Okay,
and I'll give Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated and that
Side dot com the credit. Over the last thirty plus games,
thirty one for Matthew Stafford, thirty two for Patrick Mahomes,
thirty four for Jared Goff. Jared Goff has the best

(01:38:12):
completion percentage, Jared Goff has the most yards thrown, Jared
Goff by far and away, has the most touchdown passes,
and Jared Goff has by far and away, the best rating.
This is not three games, this is thirty plus games.
Thirty one for Stafford, thirty two for Home a home

(01:38:34):
for Mahomes, thirty four for Goff. That's pretty impressive too,
I mean, and so the headline for SI dot com
is why Jared Goff might be the most underappreciated quarterback
in the NFL outside of Detroit. He probably is, I say,
Aaron Detroit. I think a lot of people appreciate him
and I hope they do.

Speaker 5 (01:38:53):
It's been awesome.

Speaker 6 (01:38:55):
What will Lamar matt or any look like in this offense.

Speaker 2 (01:39:02):
In this Lion's offense. Oh, I'm sure they would have
a lot of success.

Speaker 1 (01:39:09):
You know.

Speaker 2 (01:39:11):
Lamar Jackson has been such a good pass again, I'll
call myself out. Just didn't like the way through the
ball Louisville didn't like his his passing. He has worked
on his craft and that man is legit. I don't
like the people think he's just a runner. I think
Peyton Manning brought this up, or maybe it was Tom Brady,

(01:39:32):
or maybe it was Troy Aikman. You know, there there's
a little bit of a misconception there, and once we
get our brain fixated on what you are, it's hard
to move off that. Lamar Jackson's a hello a passer,
and he's an accurate passer for the most part. But
Jared Goff is very precise. So his numbers compared to

(01:39:53):
two other Super Bowl winners and Mahomes is definitely a
Hall of Famer. A lot of people feel like Matthew
Stafford's Hall of Famer. Jared Goff's numbers over this stretch.
It's a big sample size This is not a small
sample size. It's pretty impressive at the end of the day.

Speaker 6 (01:40:08):
Like you know, Jared goff Is, he might be the
best at what he does in that space.

Speaker 5 (01:40:12):
You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 6 (01:40:13):
You give him protection, you give him time to anticipation
in space that he does it well. Like I just
broke down that play and you see legitimately he's moving
ro Kwan Smith. You see where he drops to pass
right on the dime like he's he's doing it. It's
no disrespect to anybody. He's kicking butt, he's doing it.

Speaker 5 (01:40:29):
But I.

Speaker 6 (01:40:31):
Think people for him, for whatever reason, they're waiting for
him to close the door and whether that door is
getting back to Super Bowl with the Detroit Lions and
then they can give him some respect. I think it's
a little bit unfair, but hey, life's unfair.

Speaker 2 (01:40:42):
I would love that for him to do that. Before
we get to doctor Jeffery Pierce Terry On Arnold today,
Kelvin Shepard, the defensive corner for the Lines, spoke on
Terry On Arnold and the fact that Amik Robertson is
going to play a much more prominent role at outside
cornerback and Sheppard and this here's the quote. Ready has
nothing to do with Terry On's play or performance. It's

(01:41:06):
due to wanting to get Robertson more involved in the defense.
That courtesy of Dave Riquette and the Detroit Free Press.
Shepherd said, Amiek has always earned his keep with me.
I saw it last year. That's a player that's earned
the right to be on the field. And just with
the frequency of base defense that we're playing right now,
he's losing snaps. To be honest, he's earned more of

(01:41:28):
what he's gotten so far. So we're doing this. We
were gonna do this regardless you buying that because I'm not.

Speaker 5 (01:41:36):
Your first round picked from last year.

Speaker 6 (01:41:38):
Is he's having a rough one, and I think that's
what they see. You look at what to me Robinson
has done. I think mc rominson's shown himself to when
they put him in there. He's in coverage, he's in
the right spaces, he's in connection, he's in sync with
the wire receivers. He makes more players, I think right now,
and they trust him right now more. They trust him,
whether it was the Jefferson Jefferson game or whether it

(01:42:00):
is everything he's done since they trust to Mick Robinson.
This is basically telling you it's not a health thing. Yeah,
it's nothing, nothing nagging. This is nothing like that. This
is Mick Robinson is a better player, powerful power right
now than your first round pick from last year. And
this is them getting him on the field. This is
them trusting him more. And this is also them not

(01:42:21):
giving up on Terry because he's still starting. He's still
splitting time with me Robinson. This is them lighting a
fire like, yeah, you're not because keep in mind, this
is very interesting, intriguing that it comes on the hills.

Speaker 5 (01:42:32):
Who's starting a podcast with Patrick's certain? No? No, no, you
guys are laughing. I'm not.

Speaker 2 (01:42:38):
Don't get me started.

Speaker 6 (01:42:40):
Who's starting a podcast with Patrick's Certain? It starts next week?
R it starts.

Speaker 2 (01:42:44):
Today, It's already started.

Speaker 5 (01:42:46):
So legitimately this is them.

Speaker 6 (01:42:47):
Since you want to focus on other things and not
necessarily be the best version of yourself and your two
we gotta let you know this is the NFL. Just
because you got draft the first round doesn't mean do
you get to deal all the snaps. This is them
trying to lie to proverbial fire under him and trying
to get him.

Speaker 2 (01:43:01):
To the ball again, nothing is given, no he is.

Speaker 5 (01:43:05):
This is a demotion, especially on this team. This is
definitely a demotion.

Speaker 6 (01:43:09):
The problem is they gon nickelback half the game, so
he's always gonna be on the field, and this is
a demotion.

Speaker 2 (01:43:15):
We feel like it's a promotion. Won't anytime? We get
our friend doctor Jeffrey Pearce here on the Britlin Edward Show,
so he joins us and he is out of town again,
but he's a busy guy. People want they want his services.
Where are you today, doc.

Speaker 15 (01:43:32):
Nashville, I'm in Saint Louis. How you guys doing good?

Speaker 2 (01:43:36):
How you been good? Do you have a good week
so far?

Speaker 15 (01:43:40):
Good week so far, good week so far. You know
a little holiday going on, so observe that, and uh
ran off to Saint Louis to kind of spread my
knowledge base over here. So well, they we don't always
love Saint Louis for their sports, but.

Speaker 8 (01:43:58):
We do tolerate.

Speaker 2 (01:43:59):
They are lucky to have you baseball time, right, Yeah,
I think it's I think it's the best baseball.

Speaker 5 (01:44:05):
There we go, Yeah, I do.

Speaker 2 (01:44:07):
Boston's pretty close anyway. So let's let's let's talk to
you a little bit about some of the injuries that
are taking place, specifically justin fields. The quarterback with the
New York Jets. They play Monday night against Miami. Neither
team has a win so far. Aaron del I'm a
y I know, I'm sorry, but facts are facts. They're

(01:44:30):
both and three. I don't know if Tyrod Taylor. So
somebody's gonna win. Somebody's gonna get their first wins. When
when you get a concussion like he suffered, you know,
it's it's hard because everybody's different. But can you give
us an idea of what the whole process is to
get him through that that ailment?

Speaker 8 (01:44:51):
Yeah, I mean concussions.

Speaker 15 (01:44:52):
Obviously we know a lot about him because just a
different degrees. I mean, if he's even thinking about playing,
he's probably do him pretty well. He's a little foggy,
you know, look at reaction times, look at how quick
he can read the defense, how quick he his footsteps are.

Speaker 8 (01:45:09):
Is he hesitant? You know, those are all major things
for him.

Speaker 15 (01:45:12):
To be in playing shape. Is he ready? Do they
need him? I mean he hasn't. He hasn't litten up
the world at all yet for his first three games,
So I think it's going to be a game time
decision with him. But the concussion, yeah, I mean he's
in concussion protocol. He got out of it, and is

(01:45:33):
he gonna be a little slowly, be foggy. I think
we'll see in the first within the first quarter, what's
what he's really going to look like. But as far
as recovery, we look at what his reaction times are.
Is he having headaches? Is he like a little slow
to respond, Is it taking him a second longer to
get his task on? Is he you know, we again,

(01:45:54):
I say reaction times. That's most important for especially for
that position. And you have to be able to multitask.
When you have a concussion, you're not multitasking very well.
And if you're not gonna be able to do that,
you're not gonna be able to run the offense of
a professional NFL team.

Speaker 5 (01:46:11):
I'm sorry.

Speaker 2 (01:46:12):
Oh that's okay, all right, I got one more before
Braylin Jacks came going, No, that's good. Terrek's school the
other night seemed upset, and probably rightfully so. During the
sixth inning, he threw a pitch high and inside David
Fry square debunt hit him right in the face. Errek
Schooble very kind, went with Stephen vote their manager, to
the hospital make sure Fry's all right. Some fractures in

(01:46:35):
his face out at least four to six weeks, is
what I'm reading. I'm sure you saw the play more
from a mental standpoint, Doc, How do you think that
affects not just the player who was hit, but the
player who also threw the pitch in this case, Trek's schooble.

Speaker 15 (01:46:50):
You know, I did watch it multiple times and I
saw his reaction, and I think I think it was
more on the player. It wasn't like she went after him,
right he hit him. It is a game, it is baseball.
He is throwing the high nineties. You know, if it
was like he went after him and he hit him,
or he lost control of the ball, I think Screwbable

(01:47:12):
will have more responsibility. But if you really look at
and you look at the tape, the batter was more.
I'm not gonna playing fault anywhere, but he stepped into
it in a way that he should.

Speaker 8 (01:47:24):
Have known better.

Speaker 15 (01:47:25):
I mean, that ball that wasn't highly inside, it wasn't
going at him. He positioned himself and that ball came
up into his face. It wasn't a malicious act by screwball,
But you know, I think he shows that he's human.
I think the biggest thing for us Detroit fans is
that you saw the human side then and even came

(01:47:47):
out to say life is bigger than the game and
life health is part of it. And that's a great
message that I want everybody to take away from. This
is a game, and it is dangerous, and people do
get hurt, and they do have career injuries, cure ending injuries.

Speaker 8 (01:48:05):
And yeah, so you're seeing it.

Speaker 15 (01:48:11):
He's squares and he comes at it scribbled. That ball
is not heavily inside. He didn't aim at him. He
didn't like, oh I know he's butting, I'm gonna hit
him in the face type of thing. It's a ball
that was well placed because he's a great pitcher. But again,
what I was trying to say is that he gave
us life perspective. That he went there. He's an opposing player,

(01:48:34):
he felt that he was responsible for it, and he
did the right thing, which I think is a great
message to all our young athletes, to all our young players,
but to also understand that these guys are human and
they are putting their life on the line. You know,
career wise. I don't want to be too dramatic, but

(01:48:54):
this is a facial injury that could have got worse.
I mean, one of our biggest facial injuries is Chris stra.
I mean, he was out, he had multiple surgeries. You know,
obviously good friend. But you're looking at the facial bones here.
You're talking about a fracture in the nasal and frontal bone,
which is right under the eyeball, which is where I
think his injuries are. And for them to not be surgical,

(01:49:19):
those are thick bones in your facial area. In the
nose area, they're very brittle, but in the facial bones,
those are very head, very hard bones to crack your skull.
That's why you see people hitting with their skull. That's
another bone that's very thick and hard to crack. So
the good news is he's not needing surgery. He will recover.

(01:49:41):
Did he have a concussion. He's probably got a mild
concussion and he's going to take time to heal. He's
taking conservative. Can he get a mask to play baseball? Yeah,
it's not a contact sport. You may see him coming
back if they make the playoffs. In a couple of
weeks building with a custom mask to play baseball again,
so we'll he may be able to get back. He's

(01:50:03):
out four to six weeks to heal, but with with
special equipment and special sauce, you might be able.

Speaker 5 (01:50:11):
To see him.

Speaker 6 (01:50:12):
That might that might be as there's a special sauce
a doc. Look, we don't think anyone first saw what
happened with the I's gonna ask you, how do you
feel about how the Tigers are finishing the season right now?
I think that's the best way to to to ask it.
I think it's ruined a lot of people's week. He's
ruined a lot of people's day, But it's not over

(01:50:34):
for the Detroit Tigers, who still holding one game lead
over the Astros for the wild card spot.

Speaker 2 (01:50:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 15 (01:50:41):
But that talk about that mental play, Yeah, you know.
I came out to say on Tuesday, they need a
shock treatment to that locker room.

Speaker 8 (01:50:50):
Can you guys hear me?

Speaker 2 (01:50:53):
Shot treat? I agree?

Speaker 15 (01:50:56):
So I was suggesting Kevin Hart to the locker room
to just change up that whole mental picture. They need
something to shock that locker room to get them back
into playing. But that's that's a big mental picture.

Speaker 6 (01:51:13):
It's funny you said that. I said, it's funny that
you said a shock or some sort. Now I don't
know what that would be, but I was listening, uh
to some guys talk about it, and they said, remember
we were younger, and like coaches will have you hitting
apples and things like that, and everybody's out there bat
and hitting apples and smashing apples, and it's kind of
a it's a reset if you will, it's a release
if you will. It's fun, it's kind of laughing, laughing. Now,

(01:51:36):
this is when guys are kids. You guys are grown
men making millions of dollars. But sometimes things like that
they work in the favor.

Speaker 2 (01:51:43):
Yeah, or some teams will just leave, like get away,
forget the ballpark for this morning.

Speaker 7 (01:51:49):
That.

Speaker 2 (01:51:49):
Yeah, why don't we just go someplace and see a
movie together? Whatever, Yeah, something different than what we usually do.
Paintball would be a really good one.

Speaker 6 (01:51:58):
Don't do well unless you just said Antonio spurs, because
like that's how Tim Tim duncan broke his ankle.

Speaker 5 (01:52:05):
Doc knows that story is that it's actually a doc story.

Speaker 1 (01:52:08):
How do we gotta go paintball?

Speaker 5 (01:52:09):
I'm sure the doc can play paintball as well that
could be on the sald.

Speaker 2 (01:52:13):
He's like a surgeon out there, so he's bound to
hit you in the in the area that you least expect.

Speaker 6 (01:52:18):
Is he got quiet, He knows the paintball.

Speaker 15 (01:52:24):
That's actually I became friendly with Tim Duncan was through
the whole paintball thing. Obviously I'm friends with Gervin and
during those years Duncan was a huge paintball guy and
we had a team actually with draper Osgood and McCarty.
We put them into hobby competition. This this goes back
some years and uh, yeah, Tim was a big target.

(01:52:47):
It's hard for him to hide, so they probably did.
They did hit him high and low. He couldn't hide,
and he wasn't as agile as some of the other
players as far as quickness and getting out of the way.

Speaker 2 (01:53:00):
So yeah, yeah, I totally get it. Last thing about
I don't know. Seven minutes from now, the Ryder Cup
morning foursomes will be announced. All right, the morning foursomes
tomorrow at Bethpage Black in New York. Who would you
pair with Bryson Deshambo?

Speaker 8 (01:53:25):
Who from the US?

Speaker 2 (01:53:28):
Well, you're not gonna yeah, in the US.

Speaker 15 (01:53:33):
I'm trying to think quick the Samuel can carry the
whole team, So we need one of the younger guys,
probably one of the younger guys, a lot of the
rookies to play with him.

Speaker 2 (01:53:43):
Okay, so you would go with like a you would
go with a a rookie guy like a Russell Henley, perhaps,
is what you're suggesting. Okay, all right, yeah's good. You'll
be watching tomorrow just like we will be, and we'll
probably be talking about it tomorrow as well here on
the Brelin. We're sure do Thanks Man, appreciate you, jos Man.

Speaker 8 (01:54:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 15 (01:54:04):
The other thing I wanted to bring up was the
Hutcheson can you Hutchinson thing?

Speaker 8 (01:54:09):
Hutchinson coming back?

Speaker 15 (01:54:11):
I predicted games three or four, and he's the third
game where he's finally getting his mojo, his swag, his rhythm.
I think he's uh. I think hutch is back full,
the mental is starting to overcome. I think that sack

(01:54:32):
and that fumble, you know, causing that fumble, you could
just see his whole energy kind of come out, more
of his personality coming out. But you know, I talked
a lot about it on Tuesday, but he you know,
a lot of people are worried about Hutchinson when we
see him. I think now we're going to see the
real hutch kind of explode over the next couple of games.

Speaker 2 (01:54:52):
Well hope you're right. Yeah, we heard you say that
on Tuesday. That was good intel and good information. You
are a little bit of an ooster domis by predicting
and that. Congratulations. We'll see have a safe trip back
from Saint Louis. Will see you next week, Doc.

Speaker 5 (01:55:05):
Saturday the house, Zach Bryan and uh there, John Mayor.

Speaker 8 (01:55:10):
I will I will be there. I'll be back.

Speaker 5 (01:55:14):
Well, hit me, I will be too. I got those
same passes.

Speaker 2 (01:55:16):
I will have fun, man be safe, and I will
hang out and can get together at black Rock there
and ann Arbor before the before the whole concert begins.
All right, well, thanks appreciate it very much as always, Doc,
but we got to get to some uh uh mail
bag and some final comments here on the Raylan Edwards show.
And again, as I mentioned four o'clock, I would probably

(01:55:36):
put a guy like Colin Moricowa with him, just because
Bryce and Deshambo is so good off the tea and
his short game is not bad, but he needs better
iron play and Colin more, Carrow might be the best
iron player on that US team. So why don't we
hit some mail bags and some super chats real quick.

Speaker 5 (01:55:55):
Definitely will.

Speaker 9 (01:55:56):
We're not gonna go anywhere, but I will throw it
over to Ryan Ensemble for just a quick word from
Caesar's and get those mailback questions in the chat people.

Speaker 5 (01:56:05):
Uh yeah.

Speaker 11 (01:56:06):
If you guys are looking to place any bets for
this football weekend, make sure you head over to Caesar's Sportsbook,
the official sportsbook of US here at Woodward Sports. Getting
that QRC out above my head and use or enter
code Woodward one thousand. You will get your deposit back
after your first bet if it doesn't hit maximum of
one thousand dollars. So you could bet one thousand dollars

(01:56:26):
out a game and lose it get it right back
minimum bet of just twenty dollars. Download Caesars Sportsbook app
today or use code Woodward one thousand.

Speaker 9 (01:56:35):
And we bet okay, and you know what To kick
things off, I wanted to get Brady's thoughts on Marvin
Harrison Junior. I see some here and didn't necessarily have
the best week. There was some big drops going on there.
Just your perspective overrated and.

Speaker 5 (01:56:53):
Your perspective on it.

Speaker 6 (01:56:54):
Yeah, No, it's funny you mentioned that, like when he
came out, everybody was somehow he's the best SEV Big
ten history and he's this he's dad, I said, like
his father was amazing. His father's top five d receivers
in NFL history. I said, but you got to slow
down and pump the brakes. You know how many study
how many stud wide receivers that you've seen come out
of House State in like the last fifteen years, Like,
have all of them been the best wide receiver of

(01:57:16):
all time? They all have the same numbers, not all
of them. A lot of them have those numbers, big numbers,
and none of them have better numbers than the Mecca Obuoka.

Speaker 5 (01:57:24):
Realistically he has the best worker.

Speaker 6 (01:57:26):
But realistically, to answer the question, he I don't like
hesing overrated, but I will say he has not met
the draft pick. He has not met the hype. He
has not met what people said, because at one point
in time, there wasn't elite neighbors. There was Marvin Harrison Junior,
and there was milite neighbors.

Speaker 5 (01:57:41):
And now that is an afterthought.

Speaker 6 (01:57:43):
It's not even close or who's the best wide receiver
between the two of the men. I don't think he
did himself any favors when every time you saw highlights
from training camp, and I'm not bring them up because
it with the Michigan but every time you saw highlights
training camp, they weren't positive highlights. They were him getting
jammed at the line of scrimmage by Will Johnson. They
were him getting intercepted by Will Johnson. With him dropping
passes in preseason uh in these the uh preseason games.

Speaker 5 (01:58:05):
The preseason, well, he didn't play the preseason.

Speaker 6 (01:58:08):
There you go, training camp scrimmage is dropping passes, has
gotten to the regular season dropping passes.

Speaker 5 (01:58:12):
So I don't know if he's in his own head.

Speaker 6 (01:58:14):
I don't know what he's gone away from, but he
definitely does need to make some plays. Because the tag
that chef said it will happen fast, it does happen fast,
and once it gets placed on you, it's it's tough
to come back from that.

Speaker 2 (01:58:27):
So he's he wasn't as good as people thought he
would be, even last year.

Speaker 5 (01:58:31):
That's what I'm saying. I'm not going to this year.

Speaker 6 (01:58:33):
I'm talking about since he's been in the league, like
it hasn't been It hasn't been that people.

Speaker 5 (01:58:39):
It was wait till next year, you know, he's just no,
it's two late that we know now. Like the first
week of the.

Speaker 6 (01:58:43):
Season last year, you don't remember, you have two touchdowns.
He came out the gate and everybody said, oh, yeah,
he's a arriving He finished the season with two touchdowns
or three touchdowns, So yeah, he's he's getting close to
the territory of.

Speaker 5 (01:58:59):
What you do with this guy.

Speaker 2 (01:59:00):
Yeah, that's it's that should be a deep concern, that's all.
That's a lot of I'm surprised at the drops, that's all.
I mean, I'm really surprised that. And you know, Braylyn,
you could speak to this. I mean, you gotta keep
your eye going. He lets the ball come into his
body and again that's that's really surprising. I thought he
was a hands guy.

Speaker 6 (01:59:21):
It's funny as his father caught with his body took
but but it's finally gonna drop passes.

Speaker 5 (01:59:27):
So it's two things can be true.

Speaker 6 (01:59:30):
But his fatherly catch a lot of passes like those Marvel,
but he would catch on. He was deadly with his
feet in the end zone. How many corner pass.

Speaker 5 (01:59:37):
Phades did you see him barely get two feet down? Yeah?
It was something magical, Yeah for sure.

Speaker 2 (01:59:42):
All right, go ahead, keep going.

Speaker 9 (01:59:43):
Hey, we got the super chests to clear up Deontay
Moore number two crown in the chat right now, just
sent them to find out a super chat just to
just sent it in, just to bless the show. So
shout out to Deantre And I didn't even say anything.
I saw him in the chat, say yo, I'm here. Oh,
I'm supporting.

Speaker 5 (02:00:00):
I just saw I just saw you. I was supposed
to shot him out. I'm glad he reached out.

Speaker 6 (02:00:05):
Yo, d'ontay yo real tal When you guys see me
in person, man talk to me, say something, just like
Deontay did. Saw him at the rest on the way
to the game. He had great energy. We chatted it up.

Speaker 5 (02:00:14):
He say he loves the show, he loves the network. Man.

Speaker 6 (02:00:16):
We appreciate that feedback. We appreciate that energy. Man that
we're approachable. I appreciate that much love, much love.

Speaker 5 (02:00:22):
He was super cool too. He was doing this thing.

Speaker 2 (02:00:24):
You know, I'm saying that doesn't surprise us, does it
not surprised? Thank you for doing this. I appreciate you
doing this thing.

Speaker 5 (02:00:30):
And appreciates you. Blessings. Brother.
