Hi.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Everybody welcome on this Wednesday. I'm really happy about it.
We have a Braylan's breakdown at three o'clock. We also
have at the quarter pole mark the top seven Detroit Lions.
We're playing right now. It doesn't mean it's there, they're
they're the best lines. It's what they've done. Can I
(01:23):
call it the quarter pole? Even though it's seventeen games? Okay,
thank you, thank you, thank you? How you doing today?
Speaker 4 (01:35):
My friend?
Speaker 6 (01:42):
The game?
Speaker 7 (01:43):
Last season, last season?
Speaker 6 (01:47):
This guy's.
Speaker 8 (01:48):
Breaking down.
Speaker 6 (02:00):
Another the best whatever down. Why he's got back?
Speaker 7 (02:04):
What it look like the timeline itself? But then why him?
Speaker 1 (02:09):
No teams?
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Yeah, agreed. He he doesn't play against Miles Garrett. No,
Jared Goff doesn't play against Jordan Love or Lamar Jackson.
But do you think players measure themselves against other players
at that position when they're playing in games like that?
Speaker 4 (02:27):
So?
Speaker 6 (02:29):
Uh, personally, most touchdown that year.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
Number touchdown.
Speaker 7 (02:39):
That same season, you know, finished second in the league.
It was sixteen that game.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
Every game.
Speaker 6 (02:47):
Once I started getting lunch, Jato round Us hasn't.
Speaker 5 (02:50):
Touched down back.
Speaker 9 (02:52):
I don't care that.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
Here's what I'm gonna do. Sorry to interrupted. I I
want you to grab the the wireless mic if you can,
If you guys could give him a wireless mic. That
microphone is is not working, and you and you've got
and you've got some great insight that you know. I'm
asking questions and I think people want to know the
answers to them. By the way, during the Braylen Edwards Show,
as we did yesterday, we will keep you up to
(03:17):
date on the Tigers. Yeah, that's back on, back on. Yeah,
now it's great. So let's go back to that. And
it's a one nothing game in Cleveland. Tell me if
you're playing against you just told the Randy mass story.
Speaker 7 (03:30):
Okay, I guess so they wouldn't have heard anything I
said about eight and to the breakdown or anything.
Speaker 8 (03:34):
None.
Speaker 6 (03:34):
None of that happened.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
Yeah, probably, and that could be my faults clapping so
heavily after over it. But he's going to tell you
why Aiden Hutchinson is the comeback player of the year
and maybe the defensive player of the year. We'll get
into that his top seven, my top seven Lions, and
his breakdown at three o'clock. But uh, the the fact
that Aiden Hutchinson had such a good game. I love
Miles Garrett, but does he measure himself against Miles Garrett
(03:57):
even though they're not playing against one another.
Speaker 7 (03:58):
Everybody's different, but the competition level was the same. When
you're talking NFL professionals that you know that that that
natural competition level, it just it just oozes out of you.
So in two thousand and seven, person with the most
touchdowns in the league was Randy Moss. He had twenty three.
He broke Jay Rice's record of twenty two. Sign Jay
Riss did that in ten games. But that's neither here
(04:19):
north there. So who finished second that season, Well, it
was me with sixteen touchdowns. We played them that year,
So you played Randy. I cared nothing about what Randy
had done before that. I cared anything about what he
was gonna be at that particular time. Going into that game,
I wanted to make sure I played within the game.
But you have an opportunity to make a play. You're
(04:40):
thinking about it. If I make this player, if I
have this, well I make this big catch, I'll finish
the game with more yards, more touchdowns, et cetera. So
a level of that is true when you're playing against
fellow colleagues, when you're playing against guys that people mentioned
the conversation. I'm not saying that that was the case
that year, and I'm not saying like that. But when
you mentioned Miles Garrett, you mentioned TJ Y, You're now
(05:00):
mentioning Aiden Hutchinson, You're mentioning Michael Parsons, so yes, when
you have an opportunity to play a game against those guys,
Aiden will not line up. He will not line up
against any of those guys. But you're looking at what
that looks like. Trey Hendrickson is a guy in my estimation,
that has been.
Speaker 6 (05:16):
Rumored to come here.
Speaker 7 (05:17):
How many times Trey Henderson was a guy, Yeah, he'd
be good on the other side. Yeah, he's seventeen and
a half. He's seventeen and a half. He's one of
those names you think Aiden has a little bit like
I'll show you something this game.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
I'm sure Trey Hendrickson feels the same way since he
doesn't have the big payday yet and he wasn't highly
touted like some of the other ones.
Speaker 6 (05:36):
So basically what.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
You're telling me. When I'm on Rock Saint Brown comes
out and says there were sixteen receivers taken ahead of
me or Chase Jalen Wabble, Devonte Smith just the name.
Speaker 7 (05:46):
It, or Draymond Green, like that's a real thing. You
name those guys, because the competition level comes out. And
I'm not talking about one person's competition level versus another,
but when it comes out my Ron saying Brown I
know that that competition level is.
Speaker 6 (05:58):
I know he thinks about that.
Speaker 7 (06:00):
When he's playing in the game against Philly, he will
be watching what aj Brown does, Like if Michael Evans
was playing, he'd be watching with Mike Evans Cincinnati. This
will be a chance for him to compare itself against
the best.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
Maybe he was comparing himself against for Sean Baatebman since
Babman was taken.
Speaker 6 (06:14):
Ahead of him, and that he was and until he wasn't.
Speaker 4 (06:17):
Yeah you are now and.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
Now it's flipped to a certain extent. Saint Brown got
the big contract and rightfully so he has earned that
based on NFL standards, He's earned it. Do you think
a guy like Babman in Baltimore it measures himself against
a guy who used to measure himself against him and
prove everybody. I'm going to prove you wrong.
Speaker 7 (06:38):
I think said baby is just happy to have a
job and he's trying to operate at the highest level
that he can win. Lamar Jackson finds him with in
game two was a lot, but I'll give you a
quick story, quick synopsis. Vince Jackson, who played for the
San Diego Charges obviously now the Los Angeles Charge. We
played for San Diego Charge and he played for Tampa.
He was in my same draft class out of North Colorado.
I want to say, I think it was Northern Colorado.
(07:00):
He goes in the fourth round and we see each other.
I went third overall, he goes in the fourth round.
We see each other at the rookie symposium, and the
first thing he did was come up to me. He
was like, you shouldn't have went before me.
Speaker 6 (07:12):
I was like, we'll prove it.
Speaker 7 (07:13):
What like I didn't, but but I didn't let the
comment bother me. I just simply said, we'll prove it.
That's how I always sell things.
Speaker 6 (07:19):
We'll prove it.
Speaker 7 (07:19):
We won't have to get into it back and forth
about who's better. You went the Northern Colorado with the
Michigan and Clay closed, but I said, prove it. He
had more yards to me and more touchdowns. His career
was more in the NFL. But once again, it's not
about when you go, it's where you go. He had
played with Philip Rivers. It's some really good quarterbacks, but
that's real. That's how he came up to me. He
chose to test his metal and I guarantee you every
(07:40):
time he put up numbers in the back of his
mind told Brilin he wasn't better than me.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
So it's it's a real Did you ever play against him?
Speaker 5 (07:47):
Real?
Speaker 1 (07:47):
I did?
Speaker 4 (07:48):
Okay?
Speaker 2 (07:49):
Did you ever talk to him about not that you
exchange jerseys after games today? But did you guys ever
talk about that that incident? And him measured No, okay.
Speaker 6 (07:58):
Because I don't.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
He said it.
Speaker 7 (08:00):
I'm a different cat like I took when he said it,
he needed to say it. I feel he needed to
say it wasn't that big of a deal. It didn't
bother me.
Speaker 6 (08:06):
He's had a good career, says he was a nice person.
Like I didn't take it.
Speaker 7 (08:09):
It was so when I played against him, it was, oh,
good to see you help. Everything's well, hope you make
it through the season. One hundred percent. That's kind of
like the conversation after games with me. Hey, good to
see if you catch me because I try to get
into the locker room to ultimately get to the crib.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
What about you going into college if guys were rated
ahead of you, which some were at your position, Yes,
to college, did you do something similar?
Speaker 6 (08:33):
One undred percent. Reggie Williams was originally going to the
University of Michigan.
Speaker 7 (08:37):
He was going to be the receiver, number one, five
star in my class. He was the same year he
was in he had already committed to the University of Michigan.
In the last second, maybe like October November, he decommitted
to Michigan and then instead Michigan offered me a scholarship.
Speaker 6 (08:53):
I took it and wanted to go to University of Michigan.
Speaker 7 (08:54):
Every time I saw Reggie Williams, whether it was on
the field, whether it was looking at stats, I was
comparing my up to him, like I was, I was,
who's doing what? First time we played freshman year, I
go out to Seattle Beautiful Stadium. I didn't play much
that game, played maybe seven eight snaps, didn't have any catches,
didn't have any targets. Reggie started, he had one hundred
and twenty five yards on six catches and he dominated.
Speaker 6 (09:17):
So now that was my marker. I said, this is marcuts.
Speaker 7 (09:21):
Shoot the guy's real I had to tip my cat
to number one and figure out how to be able
to get to that space because he was cooking with
some grease. Every time I saw Charles Rogers had to
test my medal against number one for Michigan State or
Lee Evans from Wisconsin or Mike Jenkins from Ohio State.
Speaker 6 (09:38):
Every time I played against one of those guys.
Speaker 7 (09:41):
It's who's going to have the big game, but also
who's gonna have a big game within the game. That's
like an amar Ros Saint Brown almar Rod Saint Brown
wants to have more yards than whatever receiver that he
plays against. He wants to make sure you know that
he's number one, but he's not gonna mess the game
up to do it. He's not gonna press to do it.
He's not going to try to do something outside the
(10:02):
norm of what the play calling is, what it does
it within?
Speaker 2 (10:04):
Again, how does it change from when you were chasing
them and then suddenly it's the other way around. They're
chasing you to change your your mindset much.
Speaker 7 (10:14):
It's a good feeling, but I think that's when the
real one was down and when it flips, those are
the ones that can become great. Those are the ones
that takes it up a notch. It's like, all right, cool,
I was chasing, Now I'm the chase. It's like I'm
on Saint Brown, Like I'm not comparing our careers. It
is way better after five years.
Speaker 4 (10:31):
But he was chasing.
Speaker 7 (10:33):
He was chasing to show you he deserved to get
drafted higher. He was chasing to show you that he
deserved to be a number one wide receiver. He was
chasing to show you that he deserved to be a featured,
number one wide receiver. Then last year he was chasing that.
You should know he deserved that. Brady got that. That
became the chase, and now the chase is I got
my money. I've done everything I'm supposed to. I'm the
(10:53):
best guy in the league. Like I don't want to
hear any more about the potential and the talent.
Speaker 2 (10:58):
And so he missed a goal post He's like, okay,
these are the sixteen guys taking ahead of me. I'm
gonna show everybody I'm better than those sixteen when you,
like I said, three of those guys pretty tough. But
and then once he establishes himself, he finds it's almost
like a goal great ones, Yeah, the great ones.
Speaker 7 (11:14):
The great ones doing He's entering that space where that's
the word you can use for him. And what he's
done so far as is continuously moving the goal pulls back,
so I can get better. He's done all those things.
Year one got to be a starter. That happened by
game six, you know, now I got to be the guy,
the number one guy that happened at the end of
the year. Year one, Year two, he's the guy. Now
(11:35):
he's scoring touchdown. Now, he's got the yards. Now, he's
got the stats. Now he's got the Pro Bowls. Now,
he's got where people see it. Now, people see it,
they know, people know, they turn out. I'm around Saint Brown.
So if you are elite, you'll put Penay sue Oh,
Penay Suel. You've seen the strides that he's taken each year.
Jack Campbell, you've seen the strides that he's trying to
take last year. Aden Hutcheson, the guy will be talking
(11:58):
about today. You saw the strike last year to start
the season, and you're seeing them yet again.
Speaker 6 (12:04):
Here we are in game four.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
I really think that's one of the more encouraging signs
for Lions fans. Okay, like somebody in the chat said,
we're the best team in the NFC North. Back to
back North Division champions. Show some respect. They are back
to back. I think we've I think he's seen that
in general. But seriously, I mean that when you see
let's just call it draft and develop, because it seems
(12:28):
like every team in this city is drafting and developing. Okay,
when you see the draft that the Lions have and
how they've developed and how they are getting better, that
might be the most encouraging sign. Besides the wins and
besides the numbers associated with them. Perhaps the most encouraging
sign really is the fact that Detroit their young players
(12:49):
continue to get better. I don't know what the ceiling
is for Penney Sewel, but that's the beauty of what
they're doing right now with these young guys.
Speaker 4 (12:56):
I think.
Speaker 7 (12:57):
I think the cool thing about it is that we
don't know what the ceiling is because they may not
be you on. I think, you know, like Brad Holmes
is drafting these players interesting, isn't it.
Speaker 6 (13:04):
One percent?
Speaker 7 (13:04):
I think Brad Holmes drafting players to where you initially
put a cap on. There was a cap on pen
They who a left tackle who was nineteen years old,
who didn't play his senior year. He gets drafted, he's
super young. They move his position to right tackle after
once again not playing for a year. You had an
expectation of what that seling like eight and Hudchson. A
lot of people didn't even want him as a number
two pick. There were a lot of other players, and
(13:25):
I'll be honest, I was one of them. There was
an other There was another player that I chose in
that draft. So his ceiling, I think he might be
a Jared Allen type player. That's what the conversation was.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
I mean, he's in the Hall of Fame, so yeah,
what would be wrong with that?
Speaker 4 (13:38):
True?
Speaker 7 (13:39):
But I'm just saying like there was but that's an expectation, Jared.
There was some gaps in Jared Allen's game. There were
some things that Jared Allen couldn't do. When I'm saying
is they put a ceiling on him. They put a
selling on Jamior Gibbs. He was saying, why did you
draft the running back? He drafted running back? You moved
up the draft.
Speaker 6 (13:54):
Well, he was a kick return he's not even the
starting running back. He doesn't know.
Speaker 7 (13:57):
So it was a seiling on your expectation for what
we thought or what you thought the proverbial you these
players would be. Now you're watching them over these years,
now you're watching them be player developed by one of
the best developing teams in the NFL, which is the
Lions and coached by Dan Campbell, who should start to
get some credit as being a damn fine coach in
the league. I don't know what the hesitation is as
(14:18):
it relates to him, but it may not be a
siling like Pin Suell, Like he's the best offensive lineman
in the game.
Speaker 6 (14:25):
Was that the thought in twenty twenty.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
No, because he had missed the year, but also to
the year.
Speaker 7 (14:31):
But then he also put him at a position that
they were gonna move him from. He's not the best
player playing at the position that they drafted.
Speaker 6 (14:37):
In the play, He's the.
Speaker 7 (14:39):
Best player in the league period, across the offense line,
not even playing the position that he was drafted to play.
Speaker 3 (14:43):
Right.
Speaker 2 (14:45):
Were you a goal setter a short term long term both?
When you played both in life?
Speaker 4 (14:50):
Both?
Speaker 2 (14:51):
Both?
Speaker 4 (14:51):
Yeah? I knew what I wanted. Was that important? Do
you think?
Speaker 7 (14:54):
Because my dad kind of instelled that into me, like
setting goals stepfather as well, So I shout out to CP.
Speaker 6 (15:00):
When you set goals for yourself, it.
Speaker 7 (15:02):
Allows you to grow, It allows you to adapt, it
allows you to mature as a person.
Speaker 4 (15:07):
Whatever.
Speaker 7 (15:07):
These goals are for where there's life, where there's academics,
whether it's sports, whether it's you know, family, Like when
you set goals and what I want to do and
you achieve these goals, you have to set more, but
you become a better person. Whether that's a better father,
whether that's a better wide receiver, whether that's a better
CEO your company. It allows you to become more. They're
very important that.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
I think that's really good stuff. I've always been at
a short term and long term goal set just out
of curiosity. Before we hit a break here and we're
going to talk about Dan Campbell when we come back.
What who is the player you want instead of Aiden Hutchinson?
Is a Cave Thibodeau, Yeah.
Speaker 6 (15:44):
For sure.
Speaker 2 (15:45):
Okay, not that he's a bad player, because he's a
really good player too. I don't I don't know what
it is about about Aiden Hutchinson that people didn't like, Like,
what is it? We all have different criteria. What is
it he did prove against high level competition. We talked
about moving the goal post. I think people moved the
(16:06):
goal post for him. Well, I want to see you
do it here. I want to say, then when he
does it, all it's like, that's still not good enough
for even though you set the goal post in the
first place. So tell me what is it we had
against him and didn't believe in him.
Speaker 6 (16:19):
I think it was a mixture of things.
Speaker 7 (16:20):
I think a lot of people don't like the University
of Michigan, and this is not me try and throw
that in there. A lot of people didn't like Michigan.
What they were doing at the sign. A lot of
people it's reversed racism. They look at him like white,
I don't know he's gonna be that good. Like I
think it was a reverse racism in that sense, kind
of like the white running back and when you get
a white runner, it's like, oh, he's pretty good for
a white wo or white corner, white cornerback or black corner.
Cooper is there used to be the king? Now is
(16:42):
sixteen and sixteen. They're split in half. But I think
that was part of it.
Speaker 6 (16:45):
It's the Big Ten.
Speaker 7 (16:46):
Nobody respected what the competition level was outside of Pennon
State and Ohio State.
Speaker 6 (16:51):
You get no respect in the Big Ten. And to
be honest, as a Big Ten guy, I agree for
the Big Big Ten.
Speaker 7 (16:57):
So you mix all these things in with oh, and
he only did it one year at Michigan, And you
mix all these things in. Nigga's at home and he's
nice like Aiden doesn't do it, He's just superly nice.
Speaker 6 (17:07):
Sometimes people don't like the nice guy.
Speaker 7 (17:09):
Like sometimes people don't like the nice guy is talking
about God and Christian family and people don't like that.
Sometimes they want the edge, you guys. Sometimes they want
something else. You mix all those things in and somewhere
in that is why people hated on eight Nuts.
Speaker 10 (17:22):
For me, it was I thought a Jabo had a
lot to do with his one year success at Michigan.
Speaker 6 (17:28):
And the biggest thing for me was the Georgia game.
The Georgia game really scared me. He looked as.
Speaker 10 (17:34):
Small did He looked non existent in that game. And
I'm like, man, this Georgia team's phenomenal because it goes
their offensive line.
Speaker 6 (17:41):
And just for me, those were the two reasons that
I'm glad that I'm wrong.
Speaker 10 (17:44):
I will fully admit that I was wrong, but I'm
glad Hutchinson's our defensive and he's killing it.
Speaker 7 (17:50):
But what you said, it definitely goes exactly what I said.
People did not like the level of competition in a
big ten for him. So now when you get the
guy who too is gonna be important number and Hudson,
I'll bring that up again to now you get the
guy to finished second in the Heisman playing against Georgia
in this offensive line.
Speaker 6 (18:07):
Now what's the conversation. Now we get to see if
he's like that.
Speaker 7 (18:11):
Now we get to see and when it didn't show
up on film, that was I guess another little check
mark that people.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
Said, Jave your bias just came through for the Tigers.
That's interesting because it's interesting that because when people bring
up the Georgia game, which I'm not saying isn't fair,
you've got a better understanding of it than I do.
I can't quite recall it. He did have a tackle
for loss in that game, but it's it's convenient that
you you go right to Georgia, but you forget about
(18:38):
Ohio State.
Speaker 6 (18:39):
Yeah, he had three, and I thought that was.
Speaker 2 (18:42):
I think there's it's selective anger like to say that
he's he looks small. The dude's sixty seven two and
fifty pounds, or he's two hundred and sixty hours.
Speaker 6 (18:53):
I never say it looks small.
Speaker 2 (18:54):
I'm not saying you right, that's nuts that, yes, looks small.
Speaker 6 (18:58):
I don't know in the game, but there were some
things too though.
Speaker 7 (19:01):
One of the things about Hutch is he was a
I don't like that term, so I won't say that
Hutch had He had one move he was really really
good at, and then he had a couple moves that
didn't necessarily work all the time, and they weren't necessarily special.
So when people say that one phrasee and you know
what that phrase is, I don't like a one trick pony. Yes,
when people say that, that also kind of muddied the
(19:23):
waters if you will, Oh, well he's a one trick pony.
And you know people that don't do homework, they're instantly
gonna go to that, well, he's a one trick pony.
Speaker 6 (19:28):
Well what does that even?
Speaker 3 (19:29):
Man?
Speaker 2 (19:29):
Like?
Speaker 6 (19:30):
What are his tricks? Explain them to me?
Speaker 7 (19:32):
So I think that muddy the waters as well as Oh,
all he can do is fast rushing up and under.
We'll break it down. There's a lot more in that
bag than you thought.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
Yeah, and we are gonna break it down. That's Braylan's
breakdown at three o'clock right here on the Brailan Edwards show.
So stick around when we come back. Dan Campbell is
so much more than what he's portrayed. We'll get to
that after this from Ben Johnson, who's portrayed as a
fighter and rightfully so.
Speaker 7 (19:59):
Yeah, he will fight for you, and oh cool thing
about it is, man, he won't fight just to get
you the settlements you want to. He can protect you.
He's gonna fight to put the money back into your pocket. Also,

But you wouldn't know. Here's a beauty though. We all
like to enjoy ourselves. I hope, Okay, some people do
it differently. Well. Sun Cruiser Vodka iced Tea understands there
are people like Braylen who work out every single day.
They don't want to get blowed it down. They want
(25:41):
to still feel good about themselves, and they do because
it's Sun Cruiser Vodka iced tea. It's only one hundred
calories and it's still four and a half percent alcohol,
and it's great for tailgates. It's great for hanging out
with buddies watching the Tigers and Guardians that are tied

That's what it's all about. It's good times cruising with
(26:03):
Sun Cruiser Vodka iced tea, and of course sports. But
please drink responsible.
Speaker 8 (26:09):
Yeah, we bet.
Speaker 2 (26:10):
We were just having a conversation about the NFL draft.
I really respect and appreciate Ryan's willingness to say, look,
I was wrong about I want. I didn't want a Hutchinson,
I didn't want Jamere Gibbs. I didn't want Jamison Williams.
I didn't want Jack Campbell. I try to tell anybody
it doesn't sound like he likes any Lion.
Speaker 4 (26:28):
But are you a fan of ye?
Speaker 2 (26:31):
Why do you hate the Lions?
Speaker 3 (26:32):
Ryan?
Speaker 4 (26:34):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (26:34):
I hate it.
Speaker 6 (26:36):
That's what it is.
Speaker 3 (26:36):
Man.
Speaker 6 (26:36):
I feel like a secret haters.
Speaker 10 (26:38):
And I've learned to every single draft pick. Now that
Brad Holmes has I just go cool. Okay, I don't
even have an opinion anymore.
Speaker 2 (26:46):
So here was here and we're not picking on Ryan here.
This is I've had this mindset a lot of people.
It's a it's a safe space when people say things
like I don't believe in drafting running backs that high,
or I I don't believe in drafting a certain position
that high. My question is always why So you don't
believe that a guy like Barry Sanders, for example, was
(27:09):
drafted high. Would make a lot of sense to draft
Eric Dickerson, Earl Campbell. Guys like that should never have
been drafted because of their position. I think that mindset
is dangerous for fans. You take the best player on
your board, whether it's a running back, a guard.
Speaker 6 (27:31):
A tackle.
Speaker 2 (27:32):
You gotta trust yourself and that's what you do. I
don't think it makes any sense whatsoever to say I
don't believe so. In other words, how many positions do
you believe should be taken in the first round and
at what position?
Speaker 6 (27:43):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (27:44):
I always struggle with that.
Speaker 7 (27:46):
I understand that, but I don't think that was a
conversation in the eighties when they were drafted running backs
like that, because running back was the offense. There was
a bunch of running backs that got drafted in the
top five, top ten because the league went through the
running back.
Speaker 6 (27:57):
I think that conversation is more in the last four
five years.
Speaker 7 (28:00):
I think then we got to the point where not
taking running backs outside of the b John Robinson, They'll
name a couple of running backs that have been drafted
in the top five, top six, top seven and actually
lasted past five.
Speaker 6 (28:10):
Years with that team.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
Because that was with that team, that one specific team,
that became the issue at hand.
Speaker 7 (28:15):
If I'm gonna play, if I'm gonna draft the guy
top three, top four, that guy is gonna be a
staple player for years to come, that guy is gonna problem.
I'm drafting him to be in the Ring of Honor,
Like that's essentially the conversation. If I'm drafting guy top three,
in my mind, he's a Ring of Honored candidate and
with running backs. From where we were trending. They were
trying to pick running backs up in the third, the fourth,
(28:35):
and fifth, the second because they're being successful with it,
because the exactly because they're gonna use you for four years,
they're gonna get rid of you in that fifth year
when the window comes up and you'll be on to
the next team. So why am I going to invest
a third overall pick and the guy that I don't
foresee being here.
Speaker 6 (28:50):
That's where the league was trending. And I think because
of Bijon.
Speaker 7 (28:53):
I think because of guys like Kyan Williams, because of
Jamiir Gibbs, you're starting to see guys that, wait, wait, wait,
sick one. If say, Jon Markley, my apologies is not
gonna forget if there is a player there that we
feel can meet that criteria asking gen Z not meeting
it yet, but you said the last game. Sure, if
there's a player there they meets the criteria, then the
hell with the running backs. Outside of that, it's still
(29:15):
I'm not gonna take a running back.
Speaker 2 (29:16):
I love that explanation. I think it's excellent. I would
just say no to each his own, yes to each
his own. But the tweak from the names I gave
you of the past in the chat old Guy to
the new names the Difference shirt. They used to be
a featured now because they are able to run the
(29:37):
ball through the air. And I know that sounds weird.
No extension of your running game. Those guys didn't catch
the ball out of the backfield the way the guys
do today. Bjeon Robinson is an unbelievable player along with
Jamiir Gibbs, not just because they're good runners, not because
they're just good pass protectors, because they're smart and shifting,
but also because they have an extension of the run
(29:58):
game where quarterbacks can filter it to them and they
can make something happen to.
Speaker 7 (30:02):
Your point as simple as this, not b John Robinson.
Jamiir Gibs called tim pass against the Green Bay package
for thirty yards. That is what we mean by the
run game by pass, because a lot of times you're
passing ball behind the line of scrimmags. Until until the
last game Aaron Rodgers seventy five percent of his passes
were behind the line of scrimmas before this last winning
they had, so you can essentially passed the ball and
(30:25):
it's like a run, that's what you mean.
Speaker 2 (30:27):
Yeah, So it's an interesting way to look at things.
And I worry about being in prisms, okay with an
m prisms where Jared Goff talked about I'm just caught
where I can't take this guy this high because of
the position he plays. If that's the case, you will
be drafting strictly quarterbacks. And we know how long that
(30:50):
can take to adjust wide receivers, left tackles and defensive ends.
That's it, because I mean, we heard it with this
is a terrible example Jeffer Kuda. Hell, we used to
hear it back in the day with Terry Fair. We're
not taking I wouldn't take a cornerback that high. And
he wasn't even that high. It was like twenty two
to twenty three. Of course they passed on Randy Moss.
Speaker 7 (31:10):
But soon as I heard Terry Fair is he Unfortunately
did Terry Fair. He is a name that happens, and
everybody in that draft and got drafted twenty two and back.
When you hear that name, you're instantly gonna think of
one person, Randy Moss. Damn we had a chance.
Speaker 2 (31:25):
It's the same thing. In the nineteen eighty draft with
John Marino. How many teams passed on Dan Marino? How
ridiculous was it that Todd Blackledge and Kett O'Brien and
guys like that one.
Speaker 6 (31:37):
And none of them quarterbacks won the Super Bowl?
Speaker 4 (31:38):
Huh oh? Yeah.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
John Elway did.
Speaker 6 (31:40):
Well, he doesn't count, I mean do one, he doesn't count.
Speaker 2 (31:45):
Jim Kelly got to four, obviously didn't win, right, Todd
Blackledge did not. Tony Easton got to one.
Speaker 4 (31:51):
True?
Speaker 2 (31:51):
Okay, how the hell he was drafted ahead of Dan
There's somebody in a scout room had to lose their
job after doing that. How you saw Tony Easton at
Illinois and said he's better than Dan Marino at Pittsburgh?
Gets beyond me.
Speaker 7 (32:06):
John Alway had the the coda's backup plan of all time.
And I know there's been some other players to do it,
but they didn't go one in each draft, like the
backup plan to if you don't make a trade, I'll
just go PIV the Yankees. Yeah, like that's the code,
that's that's the coldest flex of all the time.
Speaker 2 (32:22):
And then show up at spring training he did and
throw back and forth to let everybody knows I'm I'm
dead serious about this.
Speaker 7 (32:30):
That's when the Broncos trade the offensive lineman the draft
the year, Chris Hinton out of the Northwestern if I'm correct,
Chris Hinton.
Speaker 2 (32:35):
Who was really good, by the way, but always got
labeled as the guy traded for John Elway. He went
to the Colts and and of course those teams were terrible,
and Elway we all know what he did in Denver.
Chris Hinton was a hell of a player and his
son played at Michigan. Yeah, yeah, absolutely, the defensive lineman. Yeah,
speaking of football, Dan Campbell, you sent this to me?
(32:58):
Did you send it to me and Cooley this morning
or last night? Either way this morning, because you send
me so many texts, which I greatly appreciate. I get
him sometimes confused about.
Speaker 6 (33:07):
Eighteen different text threads open to that point.
Speaker 2 (33:10):
You're right about that. I know there are a lot.
The thing about Dan Campbell, I Braylan's text was how
come he doesn't get enough credit? And I think you're
dead on there, and I'm wondering why, and We've talked
a little bit about it, but I'm wondering why that
(33:31):
people just view him as a guy who who grabs
a pinch puts it in his lower gum, does Applebee
commercials and lawyer commercials and lets everybody else do what
they do. And it's almost really easy because he's got
an all star lineup. It's unfair to him.
Speaker 7 (33:46):
Yeah, I think it's because they ignore all the things,
you know, they the things that everybody else.
Speaker 4 (33:50):
Has that they use.
Speaker 7 (33:51):
They don't give it to him because I think it's
the meat hit. Like I promise you, I don't think
he gets enough credit. Is because how they look at him.
They look at him as a guy that's lucky to
have a head coaching job. He's a meathead. They hired
him for what the system is. Meanwhile, they hire a
great offensive coordinator, defensive coordinators, and they've been lucky to
draft all Pro players, Like that's what this cinnamon is.
(34:12):
They don't realize how smart he is. They don't realize
how dowd he is. They don't realize who he set behind.
They don't realize the cachet of Sean Payton and Bill Parcels.
They don't realize that there was something there when he
got the interim head coaching job with the Miami Dolphins,
Like they don't realize that it's more there when you
lose Ben and all you guys talk about is Band
and Aaron Glenn and.
Speaker 6 (34:30):
What they did and what they won't be.
Speaker 4 (34:31):
And here it is.
Speaker 7 (34:32):
They're sitting at three and one in the NFC North.
They are legitimately the best team, not the Eagles who undefeated.
But I think right now they're better than the Eagles,
neither here nor there. At what point do you not
pay attention to Well, Kyle Shanahan had a ton of
great draft picks. Kyle Shanahan had, Sean McVay had a
bunch of great draft picks, and Aaron Donald and Cooper
Cuple went triple Crown. And then you bring in Matt Stafford.
(34:55):
Those guys had great players. Andy Reid has the best
quarterback in the league and quarterbacks of all time. When
it's said that he is now but maybe closer when
it's all said and done, this is Andy Reid. They
don't give him the credit because he look at him,
He doesn't have glasses, he doesn't come to the podium
and has some great conversation about what the offense was.
Speaker 6 (35:14):
Doesn't wear capris, not this wizard that you look at.
Oh yeah, he's a genius because he looks like a genius,
or he's a genius.
Speaker 7 (35:20):
That's right, he's a genius because he's the head coach
and he's only thirty six. He's only thirty four. He
doesn't have any of those things that we that we assimilarly.
Speaker 2 (35:29):
He with the team.
Speaker 7 (35:30):
He's a media all these things like, when's the last
time you've seen a guy that was six y five jack?
Speaker 6 (35:35):
Former players? Still talks like a former player, still looks
like him?
Speaker 2 (35:38):
Whoop you, big old fatty.
Speaker 7 (35:40):
When's the last time you seen a guy like that
be successful as a head coach? Don't worry, I'll wait here.
Speaker 2 (35:45):
Doesn't need glasses to read his you know, his scripted plays.
And not that we're to blame, but I'm saying the
media in general just run with that narrative.
Speaker 6 (35:56):
They don't want him to be they don't want him
to win.
Speaker 2 (35:59):
Wow, I don't know if I go that far.
Speaker 6 (36:01):
No, they may want the Lions one, but they don't
want Dan Campbell.
Speaker 2 (36:04):
Why why? Why would they feel for everything.
Speaker 6 (36:05):
That I just said.
Speaker 7 (36:06):
I don't know that it's something that they can't get past.
They can't get past what he represents or what they
perceive he represents.
Speaker 2 (36:12):
I'm surprised that people actually, you know, you use the
phrase meathead, and a lot of people have. I'm surprised
they think that when you hear him talk it's passionate.
What they're forgetting is the relationship that he has with
his players. The ability to reach players like you is
sometimes can be just as important as the ex'es and
(36:33):
o's part of it. Coaching is more than just on Sunday,
and I learned that especially. It was highlighted by Jim Caldwell,
who I loved. While he was here. The players would
run through the proverbial brick wall for that man. I
didn't always show up on Sundays where they would lose,
but they believed in him, They trusted him, they wanted
(36:54):
to play for him. I truly believe not only is
this guy a really good coach, but he's an unb
believable communicator and he's one of them.
Speaker 6 (37:03):
Yeah, I one ever saying.
Speaker 7 (37:04):
It goes back to the conversation when you look at
a McVeigh or Kevin O'Connell, or a Kyle Shanahan or Stefanski,
all these guys, temperamentally their offensive guys smooth. They perceive
them to be this, they're clean cut their conversations. Well,
you know we start off in the first half, blah
blah blah.
Speaker 6 (37:21):
That's not Dan Campbell.
Speaker 7 (37:22):
And when they hear things like we'll just take them
out to the deep end and we'll wait and drown them.
Speaker 6 (37:28):
You know, well, if it's not successful, we'll fight the
knee kept.
Speaker 7 (37:31):
So like, there's a comments that he said and this
is a different eraror this isn't the era back fifteen
to ten, ten, twenty years ago where they understood that
that's passion and once you show me that you can win,
now I have to take that as Oh, this is
how he wins.
Speaker 6 (37:44):
He's a winner.
Speaker 7 (37:45):
I'm still looking at those comments. Oh man, he's gonna
take somebody else to deep end and drown them. A
lot of journalism, a lot of people is just knew
and you know exactly where I'm going with that. They
don't know how to tap into that. Don't pay attention
to what Dan Campbell says. Pay attention to the record.
Check what his record is on One Night football. Anybody
check what his record is in primetime football. I'm just
asking he's a factcause anybody checked his record since the
(38:07):
halfway point?
Speaker 6 (38:08):
Of the twenty twenty two season. Don't mind me.
Speaker 7 (38:10):
Did anybody check his record last year when every defensive
player we had got hurt? Anybody check his record? Then
just fro conversations like at what point, okay, well, you know,
Ben Johnson's gone and Aaron Glynn's gone.
Speaker 6 (38:21):
And it's over and they lose it.
Speaker 8 (38:22):
They get beat up against.
Speaker 7 (38:23):
Green Bay and sky is falling and they're done. Dan Campbell,
we showed you couldn't do it.
Speaker 6 (38:28):
Where those people at? Where are you at?
Speaker 2 (38:31):
Just because he uses the word man doesn't mean that
he's unintelligent about relate to players.
Speaker 7 (38:38):
When you talk about the Detroit Lions, start putting some
damn respect on Dan Campbell's name.
Speaker 6 (38:43):
Talk about him.
Speaker 7 (38:44):
First, Like when you talk about the Lions, it's well,
Jared Goff is the He's the coldest quarterback in the
pocket with protection since Tom Brady, Jamiir Gibbs, the fastest
running back in lead.
Speaker 6 (38:54):
Oh my god, I'm already Sai Brown.
Speaker 7 (38:56):
Look at the things that he's able to do. He's
put himself in a situation he might be the best.
That's why I receive at least this particular year. They
talk about all the players and now they talk about
Kelvin Sheppard. You know what, there's a reason why Aaron
Glenn okay to him, Oh, Johnny Moe, here's the reason why.
Twenty twenty two he was here. It was real, he
did have a connection. They brought him back. Well, yeah,
this is why his work it's working because of Dan Campbell,
(39:17):
who was hired first to your crez.
Speaker 4 (39:20):
You know.
Speaker 2 (39:20):
You know what we noticed too, Like somebody in the
chat said, you know, hire the right people and then
just let him go. That's not what it's about. He
He doesn't just hire the right people and let him go.
You don't think he's involved in every day play calling
and things of that nature. He absolutely is. But what
does he do better than anybody else? Allows people to
(39:40):
do and he gives them the credit. Okay, he's not
out there saying look at me. Okay, just because he
does commercials doesn't mean it's a look at me situation.
He lets those people do it. He lets those people
take the credit. Jared Goff has now played as many
games as a Lion as he played as a Ram.
Jared Goff has his many he wins as a Lion
(40:01):
as he had as a Ram and Dan Campbell is
a primary reason for that, because when he came to Detroit.
Speaker 7 (40:09):
Yeah, bodyguard. He was right here in Birmingham Rose with
a bodyguard. Shut he had a bodyguard. Uh, Jared Goff,
Jeedgoff had a bodyguard. Dan Campbell's basically told him, was
it you were you the bodyguard? No, I wouldn't have
surprised me. Dan Campbell saying in somebody, you're my guy.
To reinstate the confidence, to reinstall the confidence for him
(40:30):
to reiterate how much he means to him.
Speaker 2 (40:33):
That may seem like a small thing, but when we
talk about him being one of the best quarterbacks in
the pocket in the National Football League, a lot of
that comes from between the ears. He's a really smart guy,
he's really accurate. And maybe none of it happens if
Dan Campbell doesn't pull him in his office one day
and say, I just want you to know one thing here.
Speaker 4 (40:51):
I love you.
Speaker 2 (40:53):
You're my guy. You're the quarterback of this team. Don't
worry about it. It's a little thing, but I think
it goes a long way.
Speaker 7 (40:58):
Two thousand and nine, I play I heard that season
with the Cleveland Browns. Start the season with the Cleveland Browns.
I was on a seven year deal option after six. Yes,
I know that sounds crazy. That's how it used to
be in O five. So I'm on a seven year
deal option after six. This is year five, get traded,
go to.
Speaker 6 (41:18):
The Jets. Rex Ryan's ahead coach Love Rex. But this
is before the Love.
Speaker 7 (41:23):
I'm legitimately on a one year kind of proven deal
because my options up the next year if I don't
play well and they're not gonna bring me back.
Speaker 6 (41:31):
This is the first time that I've gotten traded.
Speaker 7 (41:33):
So now there's some there's some nervousness. There's some word
I've been traded. I'm no longer with the team to
draft me third overall, they saw fit to see me
on my way. I don't know what this is gonna
look like. Play the season out, go to FC Championship,
lose that game. I'm sweating the offseason because I'm like,
they probably not gonna bring me back, and I not
gonna pay my option, which was five point four that
particular year.
Speaker 6 (41:53):
They're not gonna bring me back.
Speaker 4 (41:54):
Damn.
Speaker 7 (41:55):
I gotta find another team. I gotta find another home.
Rex not only brought me back, brought me into the
office when I came back in March. Once they sent
me the contract, he told me I would be his
guy the whole all nine season. I thought it was
coach beat and then he sent me the contract in
March of twenty ten. He said, I told you you're
my guy when I came back to the facility in
(42:17):
late March. When I got there, called me into his
office right away and he said, hey, I heard Breglyn's here.
Have him come to the office. I came on here
and talked to him, sat down. We had a great conversation.
But he told me he validated and he supported that
I was a player. He said, I told you I
wanted to hear I like what you do. Basically, he
put his arm around me and said, let's go do
this thing. That meant a lot to me, Like that
meant a ton.
Speaker 2 (42:37):
Weren't just a player though, you were his kind of player, which.
Speaker 6 (42:40):
Made me like, it's family.
Speaker 4 (42:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (42:42):
And then I look at it too, like my dad played.
My buddy Ryan was with the Oilers and my dad
was there, and then I was a Rex.
Speaker 2 (42:50):
Ryan was that the Kevin gilbrother was Kevin Gilbright at
at the same time with Buddy Ryan, and he got
a fight.
Speaker 7 (42:55):
Yes, long story short, Yes, when coaches do that on
more than just a player, and then now you're playing
for more, Now you're operating Moore, now you're doing more.
Speaker 2 (43:04):
So respect Yeah, I agree. I think it's I think
it's an undervalued thing because we don't see it. Yeah,
we don't see it all the time. And I think
I think Dan Campbell is like that. I think it's
really important. All the best coaches and managers I've ever
been around are the best communicators. It doesn't mean they
always have to let you in, invite you over for
Christmas dinner, This is true. But what it does mean,
(43:26):
I believe is they want players want honesty because they
see enough fake stuff. Everybody wants to be Braylan's friend.
Why he's Breyln Edwards. Okay, there's it takes a lot
for you to penetrate the bubble, all right, coaches want
all players want from coaches, be honest with me, shoot
me straight, and we can move on from there.
Speaker 12 (43:47):
And part of that, honestly, you know, you highlighted the fact,
you know, with Ryan and others, as he said, you know,
I'm not afraid to say that I'm wrong. Dan Campbell
has not been afraid to step up and say to
his team or say to the media where he's been wrong.
And I do believe that that accountability it breeds a
certain type of respect. Now, when you look at Dan
Campbell's background, you know, not only was he a good player,
(44:08):
not only was he one of those guys that left
out there on the field, not only was one of
those guys that all his coaches like. But when he
stepped into the ranks of you know, the assistant coaching
and climbing his ranks to being a coach, he didn't
skip any steps. And like for me, when you actually
go and you do the work, I hate when people
try to take that from you. I don't care if
you talk.
Speaker 2 (44:27):
What do you mean, what do you mean by skipping steps?
Speaker 5 (44:29):
Oh?
Speaker 8 (44:29):
He the coaching treats that he came up undernease.
Speaker 2 (44:32):
So you think you gotta pay your dues, You got
to pay your dues.
Speaker 12 (44:35):
Whether you pay your dues or not, don't take it
from somebody who has Like however, you get there, you
get there, And I'm not gonna take that from anyone.
But Dan Campbell actually paid his dues. And so for
people today to try and take that from him and
act like he didn't like he just stumbled up on
a job and Detroit just grabbed somebody who they can
put on a puppet string because they'll just dance to anybody.
Speaker 8 (44:54):
That to me is disrespect I get it.
Speaker 4 (44:57):
I get it.
Speaker 2 (44:58):
The reason I asked that is because Stephen Volte was
manager of the Year last year, just won a second
straight championship. He didn't pay his dues. He did as
a player, but he went right to the right to
the dugout.
Speaker 6 (45:07):
I'm sorry, no, you're good.
Speaker 12 (45:09):
Yeah, yeah, it just and one more thing with with
Dan it's I like his ability to identify players that
he knows will will be liked and accepted by the
fan base here too.
Speaker 8 (45:19):
It's it's it's an interesting thing here.
Speaker 2 (45:21):
But you think that's important. You think that's important to a.
Speaker 8 (45:24):
Degree because you need people comfortable.
Speaker 12 (45:25):
You see Jared Golf To juxtapose Braylen's point, when he
first got here with the bodyguards, Well, once that class
said division, do you remember the scene of him and
his father in the city, surrounded by people channing.
Speaker 2 (45:37):
His name was justin. I think that that was just
in there.
Speaker 8 (45:40):
I think.
Speaker 2 (45:43):
That's an inside joke. I'm sorry. All right when we
it's great stuff. I don't I don't know if I
don't know if it's important for general managers or coaches
to find players that the city is gonna like. I
think they If they find winners, I think just about
every city will like them. Now, somebody in the chat said,
(46:04):
I can't stand aj Hinch. He's got to bring me
a ring to believe in him, which is a little
surprising to me. But maybe it's because of what happened
in Houston. I'm not sure. But if you win more
oftentimes than not fan basic and Embracia.
Speaker 6 (46:20):
Yeah, so that's the belief I disagree with A J. Hinstein.
Speaker 7 (46:23):
I find if you want to hold the Asterisk World
Series against him, that's cool what he did with the team.
Speaker 6 (46:29):
And it's just me.
Speaker 7 (46:29):
I know we're different on this. I didn't think very
much of what that Tigers team was last year. To
do what he did, get that team back and then
double back and get this team back this year. In
the midst of all that, he's done enough for the
Detroit Tigers for me to believe in him as our skipper. Now,
obviously you want to see more. You want there to
be an ALCS and you want there to be a
World Series. But for what I've seen out of him
right now, thank you for bringing my damn baseball team back.
Speaker 6 (46:50):
From the depths of darkness.
Speaker 4 (46:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (46:53):
Yeah. The fifteen and a half game lead is frustrating
for a lot, So I understand that I would always
ask people this, if you don't like him, who do
you want? Who do you want instead? Because three skippers
have been let go or chosen not to come back,
depending on how you want to phrase it. Bruce Bochi
(47:15):
doubt he's going to manage again, Bob Melvin would like
to manage again, and Ron Washington, who may not have
an opportunity to manage again. Those are three big names,
three accomplished names, for sure. And if you don't want
aj Hinch, do you want the next, latest and greatest
similar to what you had in Brad Osmins, who, by
(47:36):
the way, is now on the Yankees bench. So I
think sometimes when people look at it that way, you've
got to be careful on what you're asking and what
you're wishing for. He's a pretty damn good manager, and
I would argue one of the best in all of baseball.
All right, when we come back, good conversation, really good stuff.
Regarding Dan Campbell three o'clock Braylan's break.
Speaker 6 (47:56):
I'm getting close to being ready realistically.
Speaker 7 (47:58):
If we don't want to waste any more time, we
can get this thing cracked. When we come back to VAK.
Speaker 6 (48:02):
We don't need to wait to three o'clock unless you
want to listen.
Speaker 2 (48:05):
It's your show. I'll do whatever you want as far
as I'm concerned, it could go from two forty seven
all the way to four o'clock. You know how much
I like the segment.
Speaker 6 (48:13):
I mean, I rolle the damn tape when we come
back and breaking that's what.
Speaker 4 (48:16):
Here's what I want.
Speaker 2 (48:17):
I need a fireplace. I need a Buddy's pizza. I
need a Smoothie King to drink. I need a blanket.

Speaker 6 (48:34):

pull up to one and while you're there, how about
we do this.
Speaker 7 (54:16):
How about you text WSN to eight eight eight five

Speaker 4 (54:41):
Excuse me?
Speaker 1 (54:42):
Over forty?
Speaker 6 (54:42):
Oh my god, they're over forty.
Speaker 2 (54:44):
I'm not sure people realize it.
Speaker 6 (54:46):
Out they're over forty, which is a lot.
Speaker 2 (54:48):
Man, that's impressive. What else we got? Kool Aid pizza?
Speaker 5 (54:53):

Speaker 2 (54:54):
You know what I mean? You're such a nice guy.
You got a beautiful smile, but you always you really do.
You're You're mean to me sometimes, you know what I mean,
You're like, hey, shop, I need you to read the
Buddies pizza, but you know I want a Buddies.
Speaker 8 (55:07):
You need someone to sell someone.
Speaker 4 (55:08):
I think, uh, yeah, don't.
Speaker 2 (55:10):
Can we bring it in around one o'clock instead of
twelve o'clock it is at twelve o'clock. Everybody like the
heavyweights and ants and eat it. And if I didn't
have Ryan text to me, then it would be a
big problem. But luckily I have friends who do text me.

technically I'm gonna hold them to that this is the
best television do you want to call it television streaming
out of care that this network or any network does.
Speaker 2 (56:23):
We're about to see that that's a lot of pressure
on him, but he doesn't give a crap. He's played
from one hundred thousand people and made it spectacular.
Speaker 4 (56:28):
Catches.
Speaker 2 (56:29):
Before we get into Braylen's breakdown, let me just remind
the folks in the chat who have agreed with some
who say aj Hinch is and a very good manager.
Let me give you a quick example. Okay, up to
bat was aj keif As. He's a left handed stick
and he gets a bouncer inside the third base bag
into left field. Riley Green is there to hold him
(56:50):
to a single. That is cold positioning. Aj Hinch and
George Lombard helping him be there soft tosser and Holton
soft hitter in Kifas means you played to our the
line and you play in and then they get the
force out to end the inning. It was a hell
of a job. That's good managing and that I hope
people are taking to recognize. On baseball games when you're
(57:10):
watching them, the other thing you can recognize is just
what it takes to be a really good football player.
And for Brailn Edwards in Brailan's breakdown, we oftentimes bring,
we spread it around. It's not always wide receivers. Sure,
a wide receiver is the very first one back in
training camp, but ever since then he's only done one
(57:31):
wide receiver. Okay, one today? Who are you focusing on?
Speaker 1 (57:38):
And why?
Speaker 6 (57:39):
Time to get up? Get up?
Speaker 7 (57:41):
So excited about this when we are going to focus
in on Aiden Hutchinson.
Speaker 6 (57:45):
A lot being made about Aid and Hudson.
Speaker 7 (57:47):
Last season, he got off to that tremendous start seven
and a half.
Speaker 6 (57:51):
That's what still led.
Speaker 7 (57:52):
In week I want to say it led all the
way to week eleven, the week twelve.
Speaker 6 (57:56):
Before it finally got overtaken. But last year you saw
what he could be.
Speaker 7 (57:59):
Obviously he gets the horrible injury, A lot of concern,
a lot of nervous is is he going to be
able to get back to that shape, that form and
where he was at? Let's start here with the timeline.
Excuse me, Kool Aid Ryan. Now shout out to kool
Aid Ryan as well as Easy in the back for
getting these graphics ready for you. I appreciate you guys. Tremendously.
Let's get it going. This is eight hunches. This is
(58:22):
the comeback Treck last year. You remember the game last
year against the Bucks. You remember the three and a
half sacks. Still lost that game, which is crazy, but
you remember where he was at seven and a half sacks.
He had taken that next step as the guy you
believed them to be the defensive.
Speaker 6 (58:35):
Player of the year.
Speaker 7 (58:36):
You believe that he was the pick in twenty twenty two.
You were no longer thinking about anybody else.
Speaker 4 (58:41):
It was that guy.
Speaker 7 (58:42):
And then ten thirteen, the infamous, nasty, nasty injury that
we saw.
Speaker 6 (58:47):
He broke his leg. We wished him the best. He
made it back.
Speaker 7 (58:50):
We get all the way back to we get back
to the game against the Packers. This pretty much is
the offseason. Let's start here, start with last year, the
Bucks game. I want to show you how he looked,
how explosive he looked, and how that's come back as
the four games and season. Put the first game up there, please,
here we go, big guy on the out side. Now
the guy he's going against right here, he's one of
(59:11):
the best linemen in the game. Layers, yell me his
Tristan worse if he was playing right now, I guarantee
you Bucks.
Speaker 6 (59:17):
Might still be undefeated.
Speaker 7 (59:18):
That's a lot to say about the guard, but you
know what I mean, that's a lot to say about
the a lineman. But you know when lineman deserved that sometimes.
Aiden's over here, he right now is in prime form
at this time.
Speaker 4 (59:28):
Hit play.
Speaker 6 (59:29):
Watch the explosion.
Speaker 7 (59:30):
Like once he starts, Watch how fast he gets to
the five yard mark on Tristan works.
Speaker 6 (59:34):
This is last year once again you can see me.
Speaker 7 (59:36):
Watch how fast he gets to the five yard Boom boom, boom,
and watch rewinded.
Speaker 4 (59:40):
A little bit.
Speaker 7 (59:41):
Watch when he puts his when he puts his hand low,
he gets low, and he punches into words.
Speaker 6 (59:46):
Watch the punch into words.
Speaker 4 (59:47):
Here we go.
Speaker 6 (59:49):
Boom, boom, boom, punch punch, Here we go.
Speaker 7 (59:52):
He legitimately is about to put this right tackle all
the way back into Baker Mayfield.
Speaker 6 (59:57):
You see the rest of the play.
Speaker 4 (59:58):
This is big man.
Speaker 7 (59:59):
This is this is a big man. But this is
a bigger man. This is a bigger man in terms
of how fast he is and what the strength is.
Right now, look at the rest of this play. Let
it play out, Ran, appreciate.
Speaker 6 (01:00:08):
You boom, get him out of the way, got him
to the point we had one hand on him. Rewinded
a little bit.
Speaker 7 (01:00:14):
Ryan, he had one hand, just his right hand as
he was trying to figure out what am I gonna
do after that sack?
Speaker 6 (01:00:20):
Get the celebration.
Speaker 4 (01:00:21):
This was last year.
Speaker 6 (01:00:22):
This is a game he had three and a half
sacks and he was on the trajector.
Speaker 7 (01:00:26):
Everything that we said about twenty two to twenty three,
he took the jump in twenty four. He's beating double teams,
he's beating triple trees. He is a force to be
wrecking with fast Forward. He has the injury against the
Dallas Cowboys, has to set out the whole season, and
then it becomes questions to Doc, who will have on tomorrow,
to us, what's it gonna look like?
Speaker 6 (01:00:45):
What's that timeline? Is he gonna be the player that
he once was?
Speaker 7 (01:00:48):
Doc told you he'd be back game four, I said,
Game four is a good benchmark to where that mental
meets that physical. Now fast Forward, he does everything that
he's supposed to do. He gets back. It's back for
the start of the season. He was way before the
season started. Was he ready to play? Go to the
first game of the season. The Green Bay Packers go
(01:01:10):
back to our pause. Now in this game, what's the
conversation ship conversation is about shut first game back Aiden Hutchesson,
what's the thought process?
Speaker 2 (01:01:19):
How is he going to be recovering from the leg injury?
Will he have the scene burst and let's watch him
versus Michael Parsons.
Speaker 7 (01:01:26):
All right, here we go, Aiden Hutchesson, right here on
the right side. Now this is something that I will
come back to when we get to the game after Cleveland.
He's on the right side. All right, hit play. He
got Tucker Craft over. He jumps to the left tackle,
left tight end. Look how high he is? Rewind it back,
Watch his body level. Watch the body level.
Speaker 6 (01:01:47):
Look at him. He's high. Remember how fast he got down.
And remember me low.
Speaker 7 (01:01:50):
I mean it's an off release, but he's still the trajectory.
Speaker 6 (01:01:54):
Who was low? Still the angle was low. Watch how
high he is on this play? Hit play? Look at
the look at look at it.
Speaker 2 (01:02:00):
Now stands up.
Speaker 6 (01:02:02):
He's standing up. He's doing this. He's not a tight end.
Speaker 7 (01:02:05):
You're not a tight end. You're not George Kittle. This
is a little bit of trying to figure it out
when you're trying to figure it out. That's in your
mental You're healthy, Aidan's healthy right here, but it's that
mental trying to figure out can I still do it?
And now you'll see the guard come off and chip
a and watch eight on this all right, doesn't it's
it's a two way. It's a double team. So I'm
(01:02:26):
not knocking the double team. But just look at the energy,
look at the effort, and look at the confidence level
and what Aidan is on this play finish it out,
just kind of goes through and now he's okay, I'll
beat what's going on. Let me figure it out, Maybe
get my hand up, maybe do something running back one
last time, and you don't have to pause at this time.
Just watch the whole play and think everything that you
(01:02:47):
thought going into the season. Will he look like he
did against Tampa hit play? If I put this on
film and told you that this will be the defensive
player of.
Speaker 6 (01:02:59):
The year, what would you tell me?
Speaker 3 (01:03:01):
No?
Speaker 6 (01:03:01):
Way, only one play, only won't.
Speaker 7 (01:03:03):
Play, no disrespect, only want play. But that play just
didn't look like the same guy from that Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
It did not look like the same guy. Okay, So now.
Speaker 2 (01:03:12):
You're like is because you always talk about leverage with
the defensive players.
Speaker 7 (01:03:16):
Especially for somebody that Aiden, who's so good, so good
at getting low getting the band.
Speaker 6 (01:03:21):
He can do it in multiple ways. This is what
you did not want to see. This is what makes you.
Speaker 7 (01:03:26):
But then remember what Doc told you. This is why
we have the injury inside and this is why we
have doctor Jeff Pierce.
Speaker 4 (01:03:31):
This is why we have.
Speaker 6 (01:03:31):
Former guys that play in the NFL that have had
major surgeries.
Speaker 7 (01:03:35):
Four games that's typically the mental All right, cool, here
we go Game four the Cleveland Browns. Now what happened
before this game, but we'll just stay on the four
game trajectory. Aiden Hutchison on the left side. For him,
right side of the quarterback. Here's the big fell up top.
Speaker 2 (01:03:50):
And they move him right Bray. He he actually can
decide which side he wants to play on.
Speaker 7 (01:03:55):
I'm glad you brought it up. We'll get that going
right now. The reason why I said that on the
last slide, pay it tension him on the right side.
Aiden usually lines up on the left side. Where he's
lined up now, this is what he did in twenty two,
this is what he did in twenty three.
Speaker 6 (01:04:09):
But in twenty four.
Speaker 7 (01:04:10):
At the start of the season, he started moving around.
Aaron Glenn felt confident enough, Yo, Aiden can go where
he wants to.
Speaker 6 (01:04:16):
They didn't just tell us that last year. That was
the only thing.
Speaker 7 (01:04:19):
We didn't get to the part where Aaron Glenn says, hey,
Aiden can do what he wants because guess what happened.
Speaker 2 (01:04:23):
Aiden got hurt.
Speaker 7 (01:04:24):
So the conversation never came back. What we get to
the point where Aiden can go where he wants. Ladies
and gentlemen, we got that question answered this season.
Speaker 6 (01:04:31):
Here you go, run the play. This is a beauty
to watch.
Speaker 7 (01:04:36):
It's just a beauty to watch, just a beauty to
watch in the sense of this is game four and
you can see the difference in game one.
Speaker 6 (01:04:44):
In Game four.
Speaker 2 (01:04:45):
I have a question, Yeah, in the back of the room,
why would Joe Flacco motion his tight end away from
Aiden Hutchinson to the left side? To me, that makes
no sense.
Speaker 7 (01:04:57):
Because you're looking for a favorable matchup and he knows
the quick window, so he's literally looking for this tight
end to come quick.
Speaker 6 (01:05:03):
He's got a quick window.
Speaker 7 (01:05:04):
He knows that Aiden's five yards outside of the line
of scrimmage, which means he's about eight to ten. He's
got a quick second to throw this ball, and that's
what he's attempting to do. Gotch But Joe's a big
quarterback that doesn't necessarily care about taking sex, like we'll
see on this.
Speaker 6 (01:05:17):
Play hit play. Oh see look look just look just
run it back, running back, running back.
Speaker 7 (01:05:25):
Just look at Aiden getting ready. Just look at him
chopping at the big. Just look at where he's at.
Look at the field, like, this is the Aiden we
want to see. This is him being back. This is
it right here, all four us getting ready. He's chomping
at the big. Can't get that foot in there? Where's
that leverige? Where's that foot? Seventy one you don't stand
a chance. Seventy one knows it too.
Speaker 8 (01:05:43):
Seventy one's too high.
Speaker 6 (01:05:45):
Seventy one's too high. Cook what he's like?
Speaker 7 (01:05:47):
Oh shoot, here's that guy. Mama that goes that man.
They said, Mama, that look how high he is. And
he's looking this right eye is.
Speaker 6 (01:05:55):
Looking like, damn, hit play, use me, let me get
up around you.
Speaker 7 (01:06:03):
He can get a good enough chip to where you
have just enough time to find you. You're one of
these guys, Joe. I'm so sorry, to tell you, hit play,
you ain't gonna have that time of time. Now, Joe
knows it is what it is. Now, you just take
the sat as a twenty seven year vet that I
think he is. Slams him down, rewind it all the
way back.
Speaker 10 (01:06:23):
Now.
Speaker 7 (01:06:23):
There's a lot of players to choose from in terms
of what he's done over the last three games. Four
sacks in the last three games for the Big Fellow,
by the way. But I chose this one because I
like the ben I like the aggression. I like how
fast he got the arms off of seventy one. He
didn't go up and under, he went over. He went over,
which is one of those bad moves I talked about.
Speaker 6 (01:06:41):
He doesn't just have to dip a rip. Hit play
knocks the handout double time.
Speaker 4 (01:06:46):
I do believe.
Speaker 7 (01:06:49):
Oh he did the fake, faked them with the right
arm and then use the left arm and knocked it
down kind of with the left arm.
Speaker 4 (01:06:57):
Hit play.
Speaker 7 (01:06:58):
Aten's back man Amson trajectory, and all you're gonna say,
this is a bad offensive line.
Speaker 8 (01:07:03):
Who cares.
Speaker 7 (01:07:04):
He did it to the Baltimore Ravens, he did it
to this team. He did it to the Chicago Bears,
and they're figuring out four sacks in three games. Not
only is eight and Hutchson gonna be comeback player of
the year. He's got four sacks already. That's a seventeen
sack trajectory. Four sacks is in four games. He's on
track to be comeback player of the year. He's also
gonna be defensive player of the year. It doesn't just
(01:07:25):
them from him getting back to the thing that was
in his bag, him up and under the leverage, getting
feeling strong, feeling confident.
Speaker 6 (01:07:33):
It's got these big guys up front. It's because of
how well the big guys.
Speaker 7 (01:07:38):
Tremendously because now you can't do double teams. Now, guys
can't take their time in double team out because they
got the big fellow DJ Reader in the middle. You
got the big fellow to Williams who has two knockdowns,
is playing well for them right now.
Speaker 6 (01:07:49):
And oh, by the way, another reason.
Speaker 7 (01:07:51):
Why he's gonna be come back player, excuse me, defensive player.
Speaker 4 (01:07:54):
Of the year.
Speaker 6 (01:07:54):
Kool aid.
Speaker 7 (01:07:55):
We just got a ticker about a particular player who
might have been the lines best defensive player last season.
Speaker 6 (01:08:02):
After eight Hunchesson got hurt. Who is going to start
practicing this week. Hey, who's going to start practicing.
Speaker 4 (01:08:13):
This week?
Speaker 6 (01:08:13):
Ladies, let's get that up.
Speaker 7 (01:08:15):
Al McDill, the practice window has started. You get Big
Alee McNeil out there, mixed in with Tale Williams, mixed
in with DJ Reader.
Speaker 6 (01:08:23):
Now you got guys having a consistent energy and consistent.
Speaker 7 (01:08:26):
Motive being spelled for Big eiden Man and not to mention,
it seems as though they're finding a little something on
the other side. Now, I don't know if I'm saying
I agree with what they did this offseason, but I'm
saying it's working thus far for the big fellow who
Ryan said they're the best sacked tenement in the league,
Al Kwadee Mohammad and Aiden Hudson. But this is great
news for the Detroit Lions. Now, this doesn't mean he's
(01:08:47):
gonna play this week. It doesn't mean he's dressing next week.
This just means he can practice. He's going to start
the he's going to start the process of getting in shape,
getting in condition and seeing.
Speaker 6 (01:08:57):
What he can do and how fast he can go.
Speaker 2 (01:09:00):
Yeah, what do you read what do what do you
read into that? Knowing they had they had a just
so people aware they had a twenty one day window
to start that practice clock. If you will open the
practice window, and they did it within forty eight hours,
what does that tell you?
Speaker 7 (01:09:17):
They know he's ready, they know he's back, they know
that he's in a space to where they have a plan.
Speaker 6 (01:09:21):
It just means they have a plan.
Speaker 7 (01:09:23):
It means that they didn't come over with a plan
once they got the info and figured out they had
a plan in place for a very long time.
Speaker 6 (01:09:29):
And now that the window is here, they already announce it.
They're ready to rock and roll.
Speaker 2 (01:09:32):
They could be at full strength by week nine against Minnesota.
They could have a guy like DJ Reid And I
know I'm looking at the glass half full four to
five weeks instead of the rest of the season. Terry
Arnarold most likely out this week as well. Alee McNeil
back and Marcus Debt. I know people are gonna shake
(01:09:54):
their head. M Marcus Davenport back that that that's a
what encouraging sign?
Speaker 7 (01:10:01):
If you ask me, no, it definitely is an encourage
sign that you get guys back, and that's what the
season was going to be about. It was going to
be about getting guys back. When you have guys get injured.
How long does it take for them to get back
them getting the big fella back. I mean, if we
remember what clip he was playing at, Like I always
go back to this one particular game. Quentin Nelson has
been one of the best. He has been one of
the best in the last twenty years. He got dominated
(01:10:23):
by Aleen McNeil. It wasn't even funny when I take
instances like that, when I'm watching examples like that, you
don't take that lightly, Like that's not something where oh
it was just that game, or he's having a bad game.
He's having a bad moment. He got dump truck.
Speaker 6 (01:10:37):
So to get Aleen McNeil back with that type of energy,
just it's.
Speaker 7 (01:10:40):
Gonna be good. You gotta give Aiden a lot of
credit being there having gone through a major injury. It's
the second time for Aiden. He his sophomore year at Michigan.
Now he's coming back this year. Everybody talking is he
going to come back? Like is he going to be
the same guy? You know, he's operating in the space
where he wasn't just a good player for the team,
he was a great player for the league. And so
(01:11:03):
now it's a national conversation now it's nationally will he
be able to come back? What's Aiden Hudson, all the commercials,
everything in the career of the trajectory, he kept his head.
Now he stayed and he worked, he grinded, threw it off,
and now he's come back to be the state before
this defense.
Speaker 6 (01:11:17):
So hats off to him. And I wanted you to see.
I just want to see where it goes.
Speaker 2 (01:11:23):
Many people would would expect him to have an absolute
monster day against Cincinnati, who gave up three sacks last week.
And Denver's a really good team. You know, Denver gets
after the quarterback Jake Browning is is not Joe Burrow.
It's not that Joe Burrow. It's not that Joe Burrow
is elusive like Lamar Jackson or Josh Allen or even
(01:11:43):
Jalen Hurts. But what it is is it's about the
timing aspect, right, It's about his ability to get rid
of the football at the right time. Compared to Jake Browning.
You would expect Aiden Hutchinson and others to have pretty
big days against the Bengals when you yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:11:59):
I want him saying I expect it's gonna be another
one of those games and That's why I said it's
gonna be interesting to see what the Chiefs game looks like.
Speaker 6 (01:12:04):
But this should be a good game for this defensive line.
Speaker 7 (01:12:07):
Should be another one of those games where to get
after it, get to the quarterback and the field position.
Game for the offense would be an easy one. Look
for them to obviously double and triple. Look for somebody
else to have a day. Look for the right side
to have a day, or excuse me not the right side.
Look for the side where Aiden isn't because we know
Aiden likes to move around a lot, which I would
love to see. I hate it that they kept him
in one spot for the first two years. It's keeping
(01:12:28):
it one spot.
Speaker 6 (01:12:29):
It's predictable, it's easier to it's easier to block.
Speaker 7 (01:12:33):
It's easier to keep a guy down to twelve sacks
versus eighteen nineteen twenty like TJ. Watt, Miles Garrett, Micah Parsons.
The guys with the big number sacks, Tray Henderson. They
move around, and some of those guys play some linebacker positions.
Some they even moved to d tackle and work within that.
You got to be able to do more at the
line of scrimmage. If you want to become a dpoy.
Speaker 2 (01:12:55):
It never it never was like that. Lawrence Taylor stayed
in the same spot. Smith stayed in the same spot.
Richard phil and boundary. Yeah, yeah, yeah, for the most part, Okay,
this I love the freedom and the trust. We always
talk about trust. It's a big word in sports and life.
But I love the fact that they trust him enough
to pick the proper side, not for himself, but for
(01:13:15):
his defense.
Speaker 7 (01:13:16):
And that's key what you just said, that's a bar
And the reason why it sabar is I saw this
when I was in the AFC North.
Speaker 6 (01:13:22):
I saw with Troy Polamalo.
Speaker 7 (01:13:25):
Excuse me, the Pittsburgh still is let him do whatever
the hell he wanted to, and to be honest, something
like the highlights of with Troy messed up. They never
show you because how great he was and rightfully so,
and because of how much success he was, and because
it's plays like him on the goal line jumping over
at the right time and catching Philip Rivers and sacking him.
Speaker 6 (01:13:43):
He had a lot of.
Speaker 7 (01:13:43):
Players where he missed because they gave him the freedom,
because they trusted he was going to do what was
best for the team and out himself.
Speaker 6 (01:13:50):
And that's true. And that's the same way that huntson.
AM's not going there.
Speaker 7 (01:13:53):
Remember Chase Young, Sure, and the reason why we didn't
bring Chase Young in the word out of Washington, which
is the same word of Io State. He's just knowing
what he wanted to do. He's go in there and
try to get a sack, and if he can, he's
not gonna do anything, and he will get in other
people's way doing something.
Speaker 6 (01:14:06):
That isn't skiing. Ain's not that guy. And that's how
you have this kind of I didn't mean to make
it a high state Michigan, but I guess I just did.
That's how you had to have a success.
Speaker 2 (01:14:17):
Detroit's at three and one. I know there are some
teams unbeaten, Buffalo specifically Philadelphia specifically. You could make the
argument right now that Detroit is playing the best football
of any team in the National Football League only because
and I'm not taking anything away from Philadelphia, but they
needed a large comeback to beat the Rams. They almost
(01:14:39):
blew the game against Tampa, and Buffalo was exposed probably
too strong of a word. They struggled with the Saints
last weekend. I know Detroit's got a loss, but in
their three wins pretty handily, you could make a case
they're at least a top three team, don't you think
in the National Football League right now?
Speaker 7 (01:14:58):
If I'm just looking at football, not records, Buffalo secondary
and their lack of a number one wide receiver or
receiver that you consistently trust. They've had like some plays,
I mean, Khalilshakir. How many times are you gonna have
lucky players like that? Yeah, Like, like they're depending on things,
like they're depending on Josh Allen and James Cook, the secondary,
a lot of holes in the secondary and then not
(01:15:19):
having a prime wide receiver. I don't like that for them.
I think Detroit is better than them right now. I
think the Lions are a better team than them right now,
just what I've seen on football, the Eagles.
Speaker 6 (01:15:29):
The Eagles do this every year.
Speaker 2 (01:15:30):
You said something to me yesterday when you're like, I mean,
you said something that really made me think, because I
look at Philadelphia and I see that talent and I
think there's a ton of it. But you said to me, dude,
they don't go down field.
Speaker 6 (01:15:45):
They don't and and that stuns me.
Speaker 2 (01:15:49):
And you're you're absolutely right. But when you have you know,
when you have Godrt and you have Smith, and you
have a J. Brown and of course Sae Kwon Barkley.
I'm surprised that don't. Why do you think they don't
more often?
Speaker 7 (01:16:03):
Don't get me to started. I don't want to talk
about two boys. I don't talk doggy boys. Jalen Hurts.
This is just the type of football they play. It's
a muddy brand of football. Like they've played that.
Speaker 6 (01:16:12):
Like they have some success in big games, like they
have success in Yeah, he's had huge.
Speaker 2 (01:16:18):
Games against Patrick Mahomes.
Speaker 6 (01:16:19):
Outside of those.
Speaker 7 (01:16:20):
Huge like and in between those huge games are seven
games like last week, there's seven games where he's gonna
rush for forty. You know, they're probably gonna have a
total of one hundred and ninety two hundred rush of yards.
Pass the yards he'll be under one hundred and eighty,
and they'll figure it out. At least last year they
had Davonte Smith and Goddard figured out, like they had
that kind of understood. So they get some balls down
(01:16:42):
the field, but they were to DeVante Smith or in
the middle of the seams, not necessarily this year, so
it's kudos. They're four and four, but Sakwan doesn't look
like mister two K, like Lane Johnson being hurt. I
think that it weighs heavy on them deal and them
not having Darius Slay and Cooper Degine to play it
the three way. Now Cooper gets come in and be
the beneficiary of that defense. Koober Dejean's been getting cooked.
(01:17:04):
He's been getting cooked in certain situations. So they're still
working on some things, which is why I'm not heavy
on them. But I wasn't heavy on them last year.
And you see what they did in the Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (01:17:14):
We told you just yesterday. Detroit leads the league in scoring.
They are tied for the league leading sacks. They also
lead the league in points per game margin at twelve
point three. That means they are taking care of business.
And I don't mean a Backman Turner overdrive song. I'm
talking about they are taking care of business at the
beginning of the year. And I think we were fair
to criticize. We didn't jump the ship and say this
(01:17:37):
is over. They can't duplicate what they've done over the
last two years. All we said was, here's the big concern.
The concern is dot dot against Green Bay. They have
fixed that and they have beaten I hate the phrase
they've beaten teams are supposed to be, but they have
beaten teams by being more physical and looking like they
have the last two years. I think that's fair to
(01:17:58):
categorize that.
Speaker 7 (01:17:58):
Well, I'm saying not even just beating team supposed to be,
like they're looking like they're supposed to look against him.
I mean, there's a little bit of a spell in
there in the Cleveland Browns game, but ladies gymp and
that's football, that's every Sunday.
Speaker 6 (01:18:08):
Things like that happen.
Speaker 7 (01:18:09):
But they've looked like the team that we wanted them
to look like this season. They blew up the Baltimore Ravens.
They're still really from that game.
Speaker 6 (01:18:17):
You don't blame me. It's look what they looked like.
Last week they blew out the Chicago Bears. Bad team.
Speaker 7 (01:18:22):
So what they beat them fifty two to ten or
fifty to to fourteen, fifty to ten, So like that's
what it was supposed to look like. In his last
game against the Browns, ugly for a minute, but you
got a special teams touchdown, you got some on.
Speaker 6 (01:18:33):
The defensive side.
Speaker 7 (01:18:33):
You see what you have in the middle, like you
see your big guy eight Hunchon's is coming back. So
they have looked like they're supposed to look in the
last three games, and they've actually looked better, you know,
in my opinion.
Speaker 2 (01:18:44):
I got a couple of questions for you that I
want to get to. And then we've got Braylan's top
seven players.
Speaker 6 (01:18:50):
Braylor was working allergy to work, but you're always working.
Speaker 2 (01:18:54):
That doesn't surprise me. But just the top seven players
at the quarter pool for the Lions. We'll get to
all that coming up here on the Brailn Edward Show.
After this from Black Rock Good Food, No appreciate that man.
Speaker 7 (01:19:07):
You see that right there, that's the steak in Lobster
for nineteen ninety nine. And then you see above the
left to the yellow.
Speaker 6 (01:19:12):
Yes, it is a limited time deal, remember the steaking Lobster.
It's not gonna be there forever. But while it's there,
take advantage.
Speaker 7 (01:19:18):
Go try it out because it hits man and once again,
seventy five, seven hundred and fifty five degree volcanic rock.
That's how you cook, get tot you put it right
in front of yourself. Don't worry, they got you covered though. Also,
why don't you get some of Brailen's beef.
Speaker 6 (01:19:31):
No, no, no, no, no, not like that. I'm talking
about the twenty hours handcut New York strip. This is
a steak for you.
Speaker 7 (01:19:36):
I picked the New York strip because it's the one
that wanted you to enjoy feast like a beast, and
you do it.
Speaker 6 (01:19:42):
Braylean's beef.
Speaker 7 (01:19:43):
Also the fourteen ninet nine fifty chips. To put it
this way, they got a great menu for you. Do
you come down the black Rock, they will get you right.
And also if the Lions win, you win. When the
Lions win, you get a free appetizer at black Rock.
I'm telling you, not everybody treats you. I will with sports,
and not everybody treats you like black Rock. Barn grill
(01:20:04):
still sizzling.
Speaker 2 (01:20:05):
My stomach is growling right now. And my hair is
too long too, I might add, So I need a
haircut pretty quick. Yeah, Lady Jeane's wicked awesome. It's the
place to go. Man, the guys you suck. You come in,
you sign in, but next thing you know, you're in
the chair, you're having a nice conversation, you get a
perfect haircut, and you're out the door. Time is valuable.
Speaker 4 (01:20:24):
You know that, so do they.
Speaker 2 (01:20:26):
Lady Jeans is open seven days a week, ten till eight.

Speaker 4 (01:20:47):
Everyone know what goes on inside the game.
Speaker 9 (01:20:49):
He balls, got a man and gunning coots down.
Speaker 1 (01:20:54):

Speaker 2 (01:24:53):
Hey, we bet this might be the moment for the Tigers.
Just so you know. Tied at one in the seventh,
runners at the corners, nobody out and Torcosen pops out.
And that's what Ryan was referring to. The freak out
meter will run rampant right now. De Trod is one
for nine with runners in scoring position. They were one
for eight yesterday. So even if they come back, even
(01:25:13):
if they win this game, Okay, you've got to be
honest with yourself and recognize that's a deep concern, period. Okay,
it's a deep concern. Cleveland just went back to the
bullpen back on the Braylan Edwards Show Monday through Friday
two till four here on Woodward Sports. The we're at
the quarter point. He played four games Detroit looks really good.
They're three and one. Did you guys break it up
(01:25:34):
into quarters like a lot of teams do. Let's take
a look at the first four games, the next four games.
Try to win each quarter as associated with football. Did
you do you have a coach who did that?
Speaker 7 (01:25:44):
Yeah, the majority of the coaches that I had, you know,
Romo Caneo did it that way for at a couple
of couple of years. Eric Mangini was like that, I
left at the quarter part for his team, but he
was like that. Rex was like that, why did they
do it that way? I think it gives you a
good gage because like four game window is to see
like when you're taking the next steps as opposed to
game by game or like because I think it's like
(01:26:04):
you said, like when you're doing a game back game,
you can go up and down and panic and oh
my god, we played terrible. This is that, and then
the next game is a good one. So now you
continue to do that even if you're ahead, man, even
if you're an experienced coach and an experienced player. I
think when you just look at it through that lens,
it allows you to get through those four games and
what does those four games look like? Because how I
(01:26:25):
am in four games is not maybe that first game,
or it's not maybe that one blow up game, and
then you're able to continue to stack. Right now, the
lines are three on one and they're operating for the
most part, exactly how they want to be.
Speaker 6 (01:26:35):
It's a couple of things to clean up.
Speaker 7 (01:26:37):
But at this quarter mark for them, they're playing some
really good football and they're arguably, you know, if not
the best team of league, they're in the mix with
four other names or so.
Speaker 2 (01:26:46):
So would you agree with this? I heard a coach
tell me one time, a former Lions coach, the part
of the reason they do it is because they want
the season to feel shorter. Yeah, okay, suddenly you win
the first quarter. Okay, we're into the second quarter forward
to Yeah, it gives you something to look forward to different.
That's why I asked you earlier today. This all comes
for a full circle. Are you a short goal or
(01:27:07):
a long term goal type of guy? And you said both.
So I'm sure a lot of coaches are feeling the
exact same thing. So we're at the quarter pole Detroit
three and one. They look really good in a lot
of different areas. They look like a completely different team
after beating Cleveland than they looked after losing to Green Bay.
Let's look at your top seven players on the Lions
(01:27:28):
right now. That doesn't mean you've come to a conclusion
this is great, who's not. You're talking about the top
seven players so far through four games of Detroit's campaign.
Speaker 7 (01:27:39):
Under saying, obviously I said this will rotate, this will
change in four weeks, we'll come back. We'll have a
whole other situation rocking and rolling for you. But let's
get it started. Kool Aid started with number seven, so
that's what we'll start. Number seven is Jack Campbell. I
think Jack cambll maybe could have been a little higher,
maybe five, six, seven, but I'm leaving where he's at
number seven. He's got a forced fumble with fever recover,
He's got a sack, he leaves the team and tackles,
(01:28:00):
which he did each of the last well last year,
Alex Anzelonia let the two seasons ago.
Speaker 2 (01:28:04):
He's got thirty five tackles. He's the only player in
the league to have that stat line that you just
talked to him.
Speaker 7 (01:28:10):
Oh, by the way, he has two tackle for losses.
With that, he's a consumman pro.
Speaker 4 (01:28:13):
He's there.
Speaker 7 (01:28:14):
We broke down his play well, the defensive play against
the Baltimore Ravens, and you saw him be disciplined. That's
a major thing for him as being disciplined. He's gotten
better and better. Uh, he'll move up throughout this I
definitely believe that. But right now he's the seven, and
that's why I'm gonna keep the number six. Sorry, big guy,
you didn't make the top five. You know he's my guy.
You know, I was trying to find a way. I
(01:28:36):
was trying to find a way to get Brian Branch
to the top five. Just couldn't do it based on
how other people are playing. But it's a long season.
Like you said, this is quarter one, five pass deflections
of force, fumble, twenty two tackles, and he has a
quarterback hit as well. He also has a sack. I
do I think he has a sack. I could be
wrong on that. Yeah, he has a sack as well.
He's playing some great ball. He has two dropped interceptions
(01:28:57):
which count is past deflection, so he always lucky in
that regard. It's like you drop it, you drop a pick,
and said, oh you had a pass, Like, no, you
drop the ball.
Speaker 6 (01:29:06):
You have a drop pick.
Speaker 2 (01:29:07):
It's a good point, hey.
Speaker 6 (01:29:08):
That you count as a stat But this is my guy.
You know how I feel about him.
Speaker 4 (01:29:12):
He will move up.
Speaker 7 (01:29:13):
He's playing some great ball. And then usually in times
where they need him is when you see him. They
haven't necessarily needed him in the last three games. You
see what that defense has been. It's been a wrecking
ball and they beat teams into submission. But when they
do need him, you saw in the Green Bay game
when they needed to play guess what. Guess who made
it play. It didn't stand because of a penalty, but
he made a play. You saw the Baltimore game. Here
he is again making another play when the team needs it.
(01:29:35):
He's still done that. And I feel like I'm talking
myself back into having him in a five. But I'm
gonna leave him at six because I don't want to
be a biased homer. Number five deserves to be at
number five, and he's not higher because he hasn't really
got rocking and rolling all the way like we know
he will at some point this year, but Jamiir is
still doing this thing. Two hundred and seventy one yards
(01:29:56):
of rushing, four touchdown, which is a touchdown a game.
But here's the kicker, twenty catches for seventy nine yards.
Want to see more yards if getting twenty catches, that
goes back to game one where you have ten catches
for thirty four yards. Want to see him do more
with the ball out of the backfield. That's what we
were promised this year. If I'm being honest. One of
the things we're promised we will see. Jamiir Gibbs is
some more receiver like sets. Haven't seen him yet, but
(01:30:18):
I'm not tripping.
Speaker 2 (01:30:19):
But the receptions are pretty good. Receptions through four games,
ten game in one game. As you pointed out earlier
in the.
Speaker 7 (01:30:24):
Show, this is true. But Jamiir Gibbs runs four to two.
Like you get twenty catches, you need more than seventy
nine yards. And he has no receiving touchdowns as well.
So five is good for him. We know that he'll
take off, but we're waiting for it. Gives number five,
number four, the best pocket passer since Tom Brady. He
could be a little higher, but I think four is
(01:30:45):
what we will keep Jared Goff for this one. Look,
he's been an outstanding leader in the last three weeks.
Even didn't have a necessarily bad game in Game one,
it was a team bad game. He was decent twenty
two to twenty eight, two hundred and twenty five yards,
picking a pick and an intercept. But through the last
three man he's seventy three point eight percent in the league.
That's tops nine hundred and twenty nine yards, nine touchdowns
(01:31:07):
to two interceptions. But the big thing I wrote down
is he's maneuvering better in the pocket this season. Like,
if you're watch him this year, it's almost as if
he's gotten Ryan to me a favor. And I know
this is in professional turn that off a.
Speaker 6 (01:31:19):
Little bit so the people can hear me clearly, if
you will.
Speaker 7 (01:31:22):
It almost seems as though he's been working out on
speed dynamics, So working out a little bit on moving
in the pocket. You know, the one drill they do
where they'll have the bags and keep hitting the quarterbacks
arms and doing that. Seems like he's been doing a
lot of that in the off season because he's moving
at the right time. Tom Brady didn't run for anything,
but Tom knew how to move when the time came
for Tom knew how up. This is the moment, this
(01:31:43):
is where it's going to hit and anticipate. He's done
that well. And the last thing I wrote down is
L E A D I n G. He is lead,
deemed the charge. You see him at the PRES conference, make.
Speaker 2 (01:31:53):
Me think.
Speaker 6 (01:31:56):
He's leading the charge.
Speaker 7 (01:31:57):
He's leading the offense like he doesn't need you know who.
This is his offense and he's operating as such. An
Dan Campbell talking about giving people the space he's given
him as well as Johnnymore.
Speaker 6 (01:32:06):
This is his offense. Dude, he speaks, He speaks for
behalf of the team.
Speaker 2 (01:32:09):
You said he has become so much more vocal and
so much more I would say relaxed. I think how
you said it yesterday. It's a really good point about
him that needs to be brought up more.
Speaker 6 (01:32:19):
Even how he plays with the media.
Speaker 7 (01:32:21):
Now you know how he trows them like it's it's
a confident, comfortable troll. But he's not doing the most
to do mean, he's not doing most. How about those coordinators,
Now that's just a little jazz, just to let you
know I remember, but also I'm not trying to be disrespectful,
but we are kicking you know what and taking names.
So he's number four on this list, and rightfully so
(01:32:41):
rightfully so I guess I'll just run through them all.
Speaker 6 (01:32:44):
Number three, you guessed it, the big fella.
Speaker 7 (01:32:48):
Now once again, you can go up, you can move down.
I think three is a good spot for him right now.
No Saxon game won four. Since then, he's figuring it out.
He's gotten back to what we saw in terms of
the explosiveness, the dynamicnus that he was at the start
of the last season.
Speaker 6 (01:33:04):
You're starting to see how he's confident. He's smiling. When
you see Aiden get double team and smiling, that's a
sign of.
Speaker 4 (01:33:10):
This is it.
Speaker 7 (01:33:10):
This is where I'm at. This is where I wanted
to get back too. So I talked about him enough.
You're gonna see that get clipped. You'll see that on
our socials. This guy is coming back into form ninety
seven is he's doing the things that we wanted to
see coming to the season, and that's why he is
now the odds on favor to win Defensive Player of
the Year.
Speaker 6 (01:33:28):
Like I said he would.
Speaker 7 (01:33:28):
Although he's gonna win come Back Player of Year two,
come Back Player to year two number two, No surprises.
It's the big fella. No sacks giving up this season.
We talked about the offensive line after game one. They
have gotten it back together. Shout out to take Raleish
as well as Graham Glasgow in Mahogany. And then hey,
shout out to Taylor Decker because he handled his with
(01:33:50):
Miles Garrett last week the Times. I saw him in
there with Miles Garrett for an old fellow with a
couple of injuries, a little banged up. This he showed
you why he's a Pro Bowl and he shows you
why he's the oldest tenured lion on this staff. Kudos
to him. But the big fella makes it work man.
No sacks giving up this year. He is explosive, dynamic
and the Baltimore Ravens game ninety nine point ninety three
(01:34:10):
was his grade out, the highest gradeoutre good that. You
know what at the end of the day, I yes,
ninety nine point nine three. You know, even even for
a poor football and focus, I would have to say
they did something right like this is amazing. Ninety nine
point nine three. You highest rate they're ever given, and
it's deservingly so. He's now got into space. We believe pay,
(01:34:30):
we believe Piney might be the best offensive lineman in
the league. And he is leading a line. You seeing
how they're operating. Jared Goff hasn't been sacked in three weeks.
Jared Goff has time. He's able to step up and
do the things that people make the comparison a boy
Tom Brady, so pinay the big fella.
Speaker 6 (01:34:47):
He's holding down to two spot. We'll see what happens
in four more weeks.
Speaker 7 (01:34:50):
And number one, I don't think it should have been
any question from the time we start this list. It
is Amara Saint Brown twenty seven catches, three hundred and
seven yards, six touchdowns through four first out of this
has been done since you guessed it. The super Freak
eighty eight, I mean AKA Randy Moss. Just like Jared Goff,
he's a leader. He does it all, he does everything,
(01:35:12):
He does the dirty work, which is why he's also
able to have a touchdown actually more than a touchdown game,
probably about one point four so touchdowns a game.
Speaker 6 (01:35:19):
He's doing his thing.
Speaker 7 (01:35:20):
He is a leader of the team, and like you said,
he holds grudges and that's what been his motivation and
allow him to propel.
Speaker 2 (01:35:27):
It's a really good list. We differ slightly, Okay, not
that we were able to put mine up here, but
I'll just i number one. I have Penny Sewel. I
think he's the best player on this team. I think
he's the best lineman in the National Football League. I
don't care what position you're looking at. I think he's
the best there is. I have him won. I have
Aman Ross Saint Brown at two. So we're splitting hairs here.
(01:35:50):
We're just swapping one and two. Three. I have Jared
Goff ahead of Aiden Hutchinson. What Jared Goff has done
his precision, the ability to read the right coverages like
he's always been really good at and his ability to
hit guys in stride has been super impressive, and as
(01:36:11):
you mentioned a number of times, leadership. Then I have
Aiden Hutchinson. So you and I just have three and
four swapped. You are one and two swapped are three
and four. At five, I have Jack Campbell because of
all the numbers you just gave, I have Jack Campbell
as a guy who has really taken the Green dot
(01:36:32):
to heart. So I've got him at five. Then I
have Brian Branch who he's both of us. He's one
of our favorite players. I think he can play better.
Speaker 6 (01:36:44):
I agree. That's why I got him at six.
Speaker 2 (01:36:46):
Yeah, so I've got him at six, and I'm going
to surprise you at seven. I cheated a little bit.
I combined. I want to combine combination. I want Derek
Barnes and DJ Reader. I took them together. I didn't
have Jamior Gibbs in my top because I think he
can play better, but I also think, you know, the
one game with David Montgomer against Baltimore one hundred and
(01:37:06):
fifty one yards, it's hard to ignore that. I love
Jamiir Gibbs. I love the combination. This is nowhere to
when we start doing these types of rankings. Is it
a slight on anybody on that team? It's just you
got to pick seven guys. Again, I cheated. I picked eight,
but I tied seven. Derek Barnes just really impressed me
(01:37:27):
and DJ Reider and you brought it up last week,
or actually brought it up Monday after the Cleveland game.
How impressed you've been with Yeah? Yeah, so well you've
doubled it down on it. You're right about it. So
I think it's the fun thing about this, Braylin, is
that there's a lot of guys that we can choose
from because they are playing so well. And that's a
(01:37:51):
really fun position to be in when you're talking about
the National Football League. Knowing the ebbs and flows that
we have in this game, all those guys playing together
has been so entertaining to watch. They really are one
of the more fun teams to watch in all football.
Speaker 6 (01:38:07):
Yeah, I agree.
Speaker 7 (01:38:08):
I no pushback at any day. I would just say
for Jack Campbell, he's doing amazing. I just want to,
outside of one play against Baltimore, like my thing with
Jack Campbell, and it's really me just being petty.
Speaker 6 (01:38:21):
It's one of those things.
Speaker 7 (01:38:22):
He has the silence stats, like, he has the silence
stats like you have to legitimately go back watch film
to understand the impact of Jack Campbell. Like it's one
of those things that when you look at the statue,
you're like, wait, what when did this happen? I want
to see more plays made by him.
Speaker 6 (01:38:39):
He has a sack.
Speaker 7 (01:38:40):
I want to see him get home a little bit more.
I want to see some of the bigger players happen
because he's that player. Like it goes back to what
we talk about once you show yourself, Like my expectations
for Jack Campbell have gone up. I think he's one
of those linebackers in the league. So I just want
to see just a little bit elevated play. He's nothing wrong,
is he done? I just want to hear him more.
I want to know he's out there a little bit more.
Speaker 2 (01:39:01):
Why do we trust this team? Do you think? I
was reading an article yesterday about which teams you trust
in which you don't. So for example, Jacksonville, Jacksonville's three
and one, do you trust them? Yes or no?
Speaker 4 (01:39:13):
Kool aid?
Speaker 2 (01:39:14):
Do you trust Jacksonville? Probably not?
Speaker 4 (01:39:16):
Hell?
Speaker 8 (01:39:17):
Okay?
Speaker 2 (01:39:17):
Yeah, hell noo? Because well, first of all, their head
coach is brand new. Second of all, Trevor Lawrence hasn't
giving you any reason to And thirdly, I mean a
lot of people feel like you know, Travis Hunter has
not been the impact player they thought you would. But
they're three on one and they don't play in a
great division either. All right, Kansas City two and two?
Do you trust them right now?
Speaker 7 (01:39:37):
You do?
Speaker 4 (01:39:37):
Okay?
Speaker 2 (01:39:38):
So with the Lions, I think most people. You and
I would probably agree we trust them. Why do you
think that is?
Speaker 7 (01:39:45):
It stems with talent. First of all, to trust always
stems from talent. You must have talent for a team
to trust it. You can't just be a bunch of
ragtag guys playing together and you're playing well. No, no, no,
you gotta have some guys to keep positions that can
play key positions. Gotta be able to protect the quarterback.
Taylor Decker as well as Piney are doing that well.
Gotta be able to run the football. Need I say more?
Speaker 6 (01:40:04):
You got to have explosive players on the offense and
your skill set.
Speaker 8 (01:40:07):
You got that.
Speaker 6 (01:40:08):
On the other side of the ball, you gotta be
able to get to the quarterback. What are they doing?
Speaker 7 (01:40:10):
They leave the league and they got a guy that
should finish in my estimation, as defensive player in the year.
They have a head coach and this track record is
Dan cam Win his track record. Now let's go back.
Why do I trust the Lions? Because starting in twenty
twenty two when he finished nine and eight after a
mean eight was eight and two in the last ten games.
Like from then on, they proceed to go eight and two.
(01:40:34):
There just missed the playoffs. They then go twelve and five,
won the North, got to the NFC Championship. They proceeded
to go fifteen and two with a ton of injuries,
win the NFC Championships, win the NFC, excuse me, win
the NFC in the regular season, get a buy Obviously
we know how that ended. And then in the offseason
this year, when all was made about this guy leaving,
that guy leaving, did they draft right, did they prepare
(01:40:56):
on this side? All the questions and all the talk,
all the negativity rounding a team that had just lost
with a home field advantage. Rightfully, So we're to three
on one, they're come in, they're three and one, and
they're doing all the things that you hope they could do,
that you wish they could do, or that you said
they couldn't. They're doing it all and they're doing it
better with my opinion. So that's why I trust the
Detroit Lions, because I trust the head man. That's why
(01:41:18):
we brought that conversation up about Dan Campbell. At some point,
you got to trust the guy because the record is
the record, The numbers are the numbers, and the numbers
haven't lied about Dan Campbell to Detroit Line.
Speaker 2 (01:41:28):
So I think there's two things in sports where you
are willing to trust and the trust are willing to
buy in. It's if you gain the trust, if the headman, manager,
a coach, and like you said, they got talent. If
you have that combination, it's really hard to screw it up.
You trust Dan Campbell and his staff, but primarily Dan Campbell,
(01:41:49):
and you trust the talent. We've just got seven guys
here on our back wall, seven Saint Brown, Sewell, Hutchinson, Golf, Gibbs, Branch, Campbell, out.
Speaker 6 (01:42:00):
Of Way, all Pro Bowlers, and three All Pro yes.
Speaker 2 (01:42:04):
And all seven of those guys you could add to
it twice as many on guys who have been really good.
Like I gave you two guys that I think would
be in that conversation so far you could. You mentioned
Taylor Decker Graham Glasgow, according to PFF, is the sixth
best center in the National Football League all the last
two to three weeks.
Speaker 6 (01:42:24):
He didn't even like pants center.
Speaker 2 (01:42:25):
And that was not his favorite. Cooley, Let's get to
some chats and some super chests thing.
Speaker 6 (01:42:31):
I'm just laughing, like, just let this thing again. You
said it. I'm gonna just name it. So this is
the seven. And like we talked about three Pro three
All pros and their seven Pro Bowlers, now here's the
list underneath. You got Jamison Williams that hasn't got cooking yet.
You know what he did last year.
Speaker 7 (01:42:44):
You got Sam Laporter, you remember what he did two
years ago, who's actually playing decent for the balls was
like the opportunities that he's getting. Kirby Joseph has two interceptions, ladies,
very Joseph has two interceptions. Derek Barnes is playing really well.
So to your point, these are still guys that we
haven't that's how good they're playing. In an off of
David Montgomery, he's going to come alive. I was just
going to say that, yeah, he's healthy again.
Speaker 4 (01:43:06):
He will come alive.
Speaker 6 (01:43:07):
So this is why you trust the Detroit Lions.
Speaker 7 (01:43:11):
It's the same reason when during the season people are
talking about Tigers versus other teams. A lot of reasons
why other people didn't trust the Tigers because the names,
the guys in the clutch, the big names.
Speaker 6 (01:43:20):
Well, your Lions have those names.
Speaker 2 (01:43:22):
Yeah, great point. Okay, Uh, some super chats, I know
there's been some in there for a while. But yeah,
let me just say this, kool aid has been bouncing
back and forth a couple of booths. So that's the
reason I wanted to wait just a little bit longer,
almost like I wish Ivy or Bias would wait a
little bit longer on a slider. But he doesn't go ahead, Well.
Speaker 12 (01:43:42):
You know what, we won't go to commercial Bright, but
definitely tell the people about Sharon.
Speaker 8 (01:43:46):
Yeah, I'll get those super chests.
Speaker 5 (01:43:48):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:43:48):
It's it's all about family, right. I mean, we always
talk about the family that we have hereward Sports and
it's a lot of fun and we like to take
friendly jabs at one another. But Sharon's Heating and air
Conditioning is all about family too, and that's welcoming you
into their family. They treat you like that. They've been
doing it for over forty years in Metro Detroit and
making sure. Look, we all know the home is the
(01:44:09):
most important and most costly experience you go through, all
right investment that you have. Well, Sharon's Heating air Conditioning
understand that. So they offer heating, they offer cooling, indoor
air quality, water, heater's whole home generous. It's like a
it's like a one stop shop with great professionals taking
(01:44:30):
care of you. And right now dt Gas customers get
a free furnace tune up through December. First. How do
you take advantage of it? Just scan the QR code
to call seven three four two three eight thirty eight
thirty nine and telling the Braillen Edwards show sent.
Speaker 8 (01:44:43):
You and we are back and you know seven man.
Speaker 6 (01:44:48):
It's a good conversation, Yeah, really good conversation.
Speaker 7 (01:44:50):
Hey, it's so funny because before when you talk about
each your lines back in the day and you're doing
this list, I had some good players, but you're really
trying to find seven out of not seven.
Speaker 2 (01:45:00):
You and I would have would have had the same seven.
Speaker 6 (01:45:04):
Saying because because it would have been a strong two.
Speaker 2 (01:45:07):
Yeah, and then you're reaching. That's not the way it is.
It's like Calvin Johnson, Matthew Stafford.
Speaker 6 (01:45:14):
Sometimes Stafford based on Warren and.
Speaker 2 (01:45:17):
That's and that's about it, right, you would have to reach,
you know what I really think? Yeah, DeAndre Lovey has
been really good. Dominic Raiola has had a good first
four game.
Speaker 6 (01:45:29):
Golden Tate would have been up there.
Speaker 2 (01:45:31):
Golden Tate might have been up there. Yeah, Brandon Pettigrew
at times might have been up though unfortunately for Marcus
Pollard not so much.
Speaker 8 (01:45:37):
Go ahead, all right, let's get the start.
Speaker 12 (01:45:40):
I'm saying a whole bunch of fire emojis in the
chat too, so Sean Rodgers, while you guys are added
going ahead and smashed that like button if you didn't
get the opportunity to. I thought Braylan was absolutely cooking
up today man Brailan's breakdown for Top seven. He was
in his bag and these are things that I know
he was like excited and ready to bring to the
table and the timeline to break down with Ada Hudgson. So, uh,
you guys, if you can get out together, make sure
(01:46:02):
you go back to beginning to show and tap in
Randall Smalls. He has the number one crown right now
for a top fans in the chat shout out to
Randall Smalls, he says, the best guy on the board.
Speaker 8 (01:46:13):
And this was when you guys were talking a little
bit earlier.
Speaker 12 (01:46:15):
He says, So how did Brad pass on Schadure Sanders,
Alan Chefandler.
Speaker 2 (01:46:23):
Obviously he wasn't their best guy on their board. He
wasn't the best guy on a lot of people Yeah,
the belief is that Joe Flacco is going to be
benched in Dylan Gabriel starting for Cleveland this weekend.
Speaker 4 (01:46:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:46:33):
I was gonna say, he's not even the best guy
in his in his locker room.
Speaker 2 (01:46:37):
You know what concerns me?
Speaker 4 (01:46:38):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (01:46:38):
I don't know the young man, you know, he was,
He had some he had some pretty good stuff at Colorado,
not necessarily winning with this al He's oftentimes associated with
other quarterbacks, but for some reason, not him because it's
Dione Sanderson. But I do wonder when a guy says
I don't want to be drafted by a specific team Baltimore.
(01:47:01):
We took shots at John Alloway for it, we took
shots at Eli manning Ford, and for good reason, he
don't want to be drafted by Baltimore because of Lamar.
To me, was very odd. I don't know what kind
of player he's going to be. Obviously, Brad Holmes did
not think he was the best player on their board,
so they had other needs and they chose to go
that route. I don't think they've lost anything so far,
(01:47:23):
and I'm probably not losing sleep over it.
Speaker 7 (01:47:25):
Yeah, I don't have anything on the matter. I will say,
nobody said anything to John Elway about what he was
gonna do. No one, No one gave him flag for it.
Speaker 2 (01:47:32):
Oh yes, oh it was constant fly. I disagree, asked
Terry Bradshaw. Terry Bradshaw's on camera saying you want to
go play baseball, Get the hell out of you. We
don't need players like you in the national football It's
Terry Bradshaw.
Speaker 7 (01:47:43):
Nobody cares what a player has to think. But did
the did the media say something? Did ryters say something?
Wasn't on that level?
Speaker 6 (01:47:48):
Was it on that line?
Speaker 2 (01:47:49):
It was, but the media is not as prevalent back
then as it is now.
Speaker 7 (01:47:52):
Of course, the Eli Manning situation, I also begged to
differ because it was one man's father who made a conversation,
and nobody ever said anything about our Manning not wanting
his son to play in the same conference as his
other son because they would never get a chance to
playing the Super Bowl.
Speaker 6 (01:48:05):
If that was even in fact.
Speaker 2 (01:48:07):
Why, Yeah, there was a lot of pushback on John Alway,
A yeah, go ahead, keep it up.
Speaker 8 (01:48:15):
Definitely.
Speaker 12 (01:48:15):
We have Python Night number two crown today in the
chat Knight. You have to fight out the super chases.
I know this is a Detroit sports show, but I've
I'd love some time on the Jets to hear everyone's
thoughts on what's going on with Aaron Glenn and his
current team.
Speaker 8 (01:48:31):
Sunny must know. Obviously we got a.
Speaker 2 (01:48:33):
Well Bray was at training camp earlier this year and
he knows Aaron Glenn really well.
Speaker 7 (01:48:37):
Hey b r a Y, Yeah, I appreciate. It's just
gonna take time. You know Aaron Glenn, and unfortunately he's
not gonna have a lot of time. It's gonna take
time to get all the guys on the same page.
They look better. When I was a training camp, they
were buying in. I got a chance to talk to
Tyrod Taylor on the sideline as well as Braylen Allen,
Gary Wilson, and you know, they like Aaron Glynn.
Speaker 6 (01:48:56):
They like what he represents.
Speaker 7 (01:48:57):
They like how he calls people out and holds them accountable.
So I think it will get better. Problem is when
you inherit a team that already has some guys that
are stable pieces, sometimes those guys aren't with your program
no matter what you are, especially if you're coming in.
Speaker 6 (01:49:11):
You saw Aaron Glenn. He's a little little intense. He's
a little aggressive.
Speaker 7 (01:49:15):
You saw the conversation with Aaron Rodgers before it even started,
you know, in the off season. So a lot of
times guys don't resonate with that, and guys, you know
so if you're getting pushedback, you can see it translate
on the field. So give him a second to circle
cycle those guys out that don't want to play for
the just that don't want to be a part of
what he's building. We had to cycle some guys out
(01:49:36):
of Detroit as well when Dan Campbell first got here,
So give it a second to cycle those guys.
Speaker 6 (01:49:40):
And also, he still don't have a quarterback.
Speaker 7 (01:49:42):
I don't care how many times you keep forcing Justin
fields in my face, like he's not the guy, and
he is not the guy, especially to bring a franchise
back that has not had a quarterback since Benny Testavary.
Speaker 2 (01:49:54):
Like, so he's the guy this year, but he's not
the guy long term, is what you're saying. I love
Eron Glenn. I think he's if given the opportunity, I
think he's going to get it done. The problem with
the Jets you educated us yesterday about, you know, Woody
Johnson and their owner meddling as much they they're not patient,
and maybe sports in general isn't patient anymore. Braylan, I
(01:50:15):
don't know. But are they going to be patient enough
for him to get the right guys and he'll be
able to identify the right guys. Will they be patient
enough to let the right guys let him get the
right guys there?
Speaker 7 (01:50:28):
I would I would say, I hope so. But if
you ask me like you legitimately say, give me an answer,
I don't think so.
Speaker 2 (01:50:35):
You know what people are going to complain about, though,
I mean, why are we going with guys Robert Salah
is one of them who who are first time head coaches,
And your argument could easily be, well, wait a minute,
You've had other guys who were former head coaches and
it worked as it worked, so why do it. I'm
not going to go back to the rich co tite era.
(01:50:55):
I'm just saying I think that's it. That's enfranchise And
maybe it's the city. You would know because you played there.
They're not patient the way a team like Detroit would be.
Speaker 7 (01:51:08):
But who are like the old school coaches that are
coming back and actually having some suxciting don I know?
Dan Quinn did it last year? But outside of that, like,
who are the guys that you would go to and say,
all right, we need to revamp this, we need to
get because I give you I give you an example,
the Las Vegas Raiders. They said, we're gonna bring in
Pete Carroll. This is the guy who's won the Super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (01:51:26):
You know the cache.
Speaker 6 (01:51:27):
Yeah he's a little old, but he's the youngest seventy.
Speaker 7 (01:51:30):
Four year old that you will ever see. That's the
conversation you have right that team is that the team
looks horrible. That team looks bad, asking Jent, he finally
found a big game, but that team looks bad.
Speaker 6 (01:51:39):
Is that what you want? In New York?
Speaker 2 (01:51:41):
Would it be a guy like Mike Vrabel that I want?
Speaker 4 (01:51:45):
I want it? Verbel? I like Verbel.
Speaker 7 (01:51:47):
I like what he did in Tennessee. I think he
did a lot with not a lot in Tennessee. I
give him a lot of credit for defense was tremendous.
But Ryan Tannehill was his quarterback and he was number
one seed in AFC. I give you a lot of
credit for that.
Speaker 6 (01:51:57):
Yet Derick Henry, but to give him credit, but he
wasn't coaching the Jets.
Speaker 2 (01:52:01):
He's a pat.
Speaker 4 (01:52:02):
I'm sure.
Speaker 2 (01:52:03):
There are people in New York who are complaining and saying,
why can Detroit find a Dan Campbell? Why can the
Vikings identify Kevin O'Connell. Why in the world can you know? Uh,
green Bay continue to find young coaches and then give
them success.
Speaker 7 (01:52:22):
Because those owners, they took the time to really vet
the process, Matt. They took the time to say, who
is going to fit into this place as our head
coach and who can we trust? And they built it
out and they interviewed until they got it right. And
Sheila Hemp we talked about it. She did a lot
to figure out what she wanted this to look like.
(01:52:42):
And other people that she hired, they had some some
say and they hired Dan Campbell. They hired him before
they hired the general manager. This was the guy after
all the interviews. In fact, he was what second.
Speaker 2 (01:52:52):
Interview, Brat Holmes, Yeah, no, Campbell, I don't.
Speaker 7 (01:52:57):
That doesn't matter. They took the time to pay attention
to what was best for the team in the city.
Woody Johnson and owners like that. Sometimes what they do
is they just listen for a hot iname. They just
listened for what the hot name is, and they don't
take the time to ooh, yikes.
Speaker 2 (01:53:13):
Stephen Kwan hit a home run Tiger the floor seem
one hundred miles Higer killer for a home run not
not known. I'm sorry when Braylan goes, oh, I had to.
Speaker 5 (01:53:26):
It was.
Speaker 2 (01:53:27):
That was Brian Rochio. I'm sorry, Brian Rochil came off
the bench. That's a good move by Steve Detroit. Here's
what's gonna happen. You're gonna look at They had first
and third with nobody out. They got a shallow fly
ball from Spencertoricalson and then they got a strikeout and
a strikeout right, so missed opportunities. It's not unique. Did
(01:53:52):
anybody watch the Yankees last night? Because I did. I
watched the Red Sox little bit. In the ninth inning,
the Yankees loaded the bases a back to back to
back singles. Stanton Judge, Bellinger, okay off Eralda's chapman who
throws gas.
Speaker 7 (01:54:10):
All right, he's got a seventy of the last one
hundred and hundred plus pitches, he's got a seventy percent of.
Speaker 2 (01:54:16):
It's nasty stuff. Who comes in strikeout, shallow fly ball,
a right strikeout. Now, I think Aaron Boone overmanaged last night.
I know this isn't a Yankee show, but I think
I think he definitely overmanaged. He pulled Max Freed after
one hundred and two pitches, I believe after seven and
a third by giving up a single. I thought it
(01:54:37):
was stupid. And then he gave up the lead in
the seventh inning and suddenly it's two to one Boston.
But these things are bound to happen, all right, And Troy, Look,
Troy Mountain's a rookie. Before people go scorched earth and say,
how can you bring a rookie in in that situation,
I would remind you that what Cleveland did today is
(01:54:58):
they started that. That's he just doubled Boston. I mean,
I should say Cleveland started. They brought up one of
their best prospects in all of their organization. They started
him in center. He had played right field in the miners,
and Chase de Laughter made an error in the first inning.
(01:55:21):
So it's a it's a pretty interesting situation. I again,
you and I talked about it yesterday. I thought it
would go three. Detroit's bullpen has been used a lot today,
so his Cleveland. So it'll be very interesting tomorrow anyway,
go ahead, Sorry, I got on it there.
Speaker 12 (01:55:36):
You know what I do have one about one ty
leek Williams. He's not getting a lot of noise, but
you talk about what this defensive line is doing right now.
I just wanted to ask you guys, what's your take
on had because I see Tate Ratlich showing up everywhere.
Speaker 2 (01:55:51):
Well, he this is my ass Braylan gave. Braylan gave
Williams a ton of Oh yeah, you know noise two
weeks ago. Yeah, he does.
Speaker 8 (01:55:59):
But I'm looking all around. I'm like, I'm not seeing
them pop up in nobody's rankings. I'm not seeing them
pop up really in the top rookies.
Speaker 12 (01:56:05):
But you look at this defensive line and we talk
about what they're supposed to be when they get a
Lee McNeil back, Well, they're already one of the best
right now. And he's playing in that interior and we
already know you're making money building on that inside out.
Speaker 8 (01:56:16):
And I believe that he deserves a little bit more.
And you've been you've been on it, bro.
Speaker 7 (01:56:20):
You know you're absolutely incorrect about to league Williams. But
it takes time. He doesn't have major stats right now.
Like what he's doing for us, we see it, you
know what I'm saying. The Lions seid, the teams that
you play against, they see it, you know, the run
stuff and sitting his hands up with the two plass
deflections against.
Speaker 6 (01:56:34):
The Chicago Bears.
Speaker 4 (01:56:36):
So we see it.
Speaker 7 (01:56:37):
But you know he's got to do more if you
want some national praise and national notoriety. Remember before they
start mentioning Lee McNeil's name, you know, it took him
a second. It took him a while for them to
talk about him. And then before the twenty twenty three season,
I think is when the article came out with the
mutants or the freak super Freaks or whatever it was.
Speaker 6 (01:56:56):
So yeah, it takes a little bit of time. You
know what I'm saying.
Speaker 7 (01:56:58):
It's four games, got some stats or a big play,
like a big play will force them to who's this
big fellow for the Lion and what he's doing.
Speaker 2 (01:57:05):
So yeah, he wasn't. In fairness, Lee McNeill was in
the first round pick. But to your points, look, you're
going up against you're going up against guys who just
ared are you know, it's crazy the strength that they've got,
right and it's different with schemes. It's there's an adjustment period.
I mean, you've talked about that eloquently before about when
you made the jump to the NFL. Anything else cooler,
(01:57:27):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:57:27):
Definitely definitely got a couple of here, Cooley, My apologies
on you. Just you know, here's the perfect tea. Since
you mentioned Tate rallies, tomorrow's breakdown will be Tate rallies
and we already got the video, were ready to get there, cracking.
Speaker 2 (01:57:38):
And on top of that, why a guy like Tate
Ratlige isn't being mentioned. Okay, we're gonna have that conversation tomorrow.
More football for you tomorrow as we get ready. And
of course doctor Jeffrey Pierce is coming in right around
thirty or so tomorrow. That's how it's supposed to be,
So that's something to look forward to tomorrow. Keep it going, buddy, Definitely.
Speaker 8 (01:57:59):
We got Jane in the chat.
Speaker 12 (01:58:01):
He asks mel Bag do the Lions make any trades
by the deadline?
Speaker 8 (01:58:05):
If so, what position?
Speaker 6 (01:58:08):
dB.
Speaker 7 (01:58:10):
I don't think they'll make a trade realistically, and they
don't believe in trades.
Speaker 6 (01:58:13):
They don't like making trades.
Speaker 7 (01:58:14):
The only reason why they made a trade last year
is because uh, excuse me, eight hunds out, so they
made a trade because of that.
Speaker 6 (01:58:21):
They're not trade makers. I don't see them making one.
If they do, it's going to be a dB.
Speaker 2 (01:58:26):
They value their picks. I think they will make a trade.
I think if they could get somebody for it, depending
on the player, I believe if there's a regret. I
haven't talked to Brad Holmes about this, but I think
deep down inside there's like, you know what, I really
maybe I should have done something a little bit more
(01:58:47):
last year. I think they will make a trade. How
impactful it will be, I'm not sure, depending on their health.
Let's see, you know where Mohammad is. Let's see if
Derek Barnes can stay healthy. Let's see how fast DJ
Reid comes back. Terry and Arnold might be different. By
the time you get to that trade deadline. It'll be
either corner or defensive end. But I think they're gonna
(01:59:10):
do something. Yes, they're gonna do something to address it.
Speaker 12 (01:59:12):
And here's a fun one. Here's a fun one in
the song, and it's a wide receiver related one. Jordan Lineheart,
one of our supporters here regulars hashtag mail back. Can
you guys draw a comparison to I'm a ross Saint
Brown from any of the wide receivers in the past
for the Lions.
Speaker 8 (01:59:28):
Obviously he's better, but you know, talking about the style of.
Speaker 7 (01:59:31):
Play, I said, I actually had a comparison I was
talking about to my dad, my brothers, and my uncle,
and they didn't like the comparison.
Speaker 6 (01:59:40):
I thought they were crazy that they didn't understand what
I was trying to do.
Speaker 7 (01:59:43):
I was saying that, you know, I'm a Rossin Brown
reminds me of the mix between uh uh, Antonio Brown
and Hines Ward. If you combine them for what they were,
I think you can get that name pushed back. He's
not as good as Antonio. You sent that to me too,
And I said, but it's not a about him being
better than Antonio Brown, and which you believe. Like we know,
(02:00:03):
Antonio seven years snapshot is ridiculous. Is the most ridiculous
seven years in the NFL, I think. But I'm talking
about when you combine them what Hines was. Oh, they
gave me push back on that. Now, if you want
to talk about the Lions, no, because you would have
to mix in with Golden Tate and somebody.
Speaker 2 (02:00:17):
I was just gonna say, and I'm mad at myself
that the first name I thought of was Golden Tate.
Speaker 7 (02:00:22):
Well, you know, talk to Detroit Lions like because he
can run without the ball, he blocks like, he's physical, the.
Speaker 2 (02:00:28):
Same stature too. So I fall into a trap. Why
can't I compare him to Brett Parriman. Why can't I
compare him? And if you want to know, I said,
I'm mad at myself because the first name I thought
of was Golden Tate. Okay, And we want to take
big wide receivers and comparing the big wide receivers. We
want to take white wide receivers and compare the white
(02:00:49):
wide receivers. We want to take slot receivers or smaller
receivers and compared to smaller seavers. And I don't think
that's necessarily fair to a guy, you know, like I'm
on Ross Saint Brown. He catches the ball as well
as any Lions wide receiver we've seen here. I'm not
saying he's Calvin Johnson because he doesn't have that speed,
size it in that strength, but he catches the ball
(02:01:10):
as well as anybody we've seen. He's I'm not gonna
say that one that No, I'm not I'm not comparing.
Speaker 6 (02:01:17):
It wasn't you. It was what I was going to say.
Anything you said, I was going to say a better player.
Speaker 2 (02:01:24):
Than But you did say that. You weren't say, but
you did say. What I was gonna say is that
if you could take different aspects of his game, he
blocks like parentheses. Okay, he catches the ball like Fitzgerald. Okay,
he runs routes like dot dot dot m. You would
(02:01:44):
know that better than any of us.
Speaker 6 (02:01:46):
He's like a Steve Smith.
Speaker 2 (02:01:48):
Okay, so we just in a in a nutshell. He
just described Heines right, Hines I'm on Ross Saint Brown
with three high end players with different aspects in different attributes.
Speaker 7 (02:02:01):
But you wouldn't be done like and the other reason
why you would say heines War. Listen, he is a
much better way. I received the heines Ward. Heines Ward
never made the Pro Bowl, hines Ward, and I get
all that. Heines Ward was a football player. He played
quarterback at Georgia. He will knock you out. He basically
threw it. He threw a sixty yard touchdown pass down
the road in the Super Bowl. Like he come on man,
(02:02:23):
So like heines war was a really good football player.
He was someone who still has trusted. He was someone
I would trust. I hated playing against him because I
knew somewhere he would influence the game. He would infuse
his you know, his his not greatness, but how good
he was.
Speaker 6 (02:02:38):
He would refuse me.
Speaker 7 (02:02:39):
That's I'm on Rossy Brown, but at a higher level.
And now you mix that in with hands, You mixed
that in with route running, you mix that in. This
is how you get kind of like the gumbo for
and what he is like that you can't do. You
can't just do one player though, like he's he's beyond that.
