Speaker 1 (00:00):
So so there's a yeah, was Dionne I thought Dean was
with the black helmet either.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Dion was ready? You got drafted eighty nine.

Speaker 1 (00:05):
Okay, all right, that's good catch. And the Jerry Crow,
the the Jerry Crew. You gotta add that. So there's
two things that you had mentioned I want to ask
you about. I was watching Jon Robinson and Drake London
and I don't want to be too hyperbolic here, so
that's why I need to be, you know, probably calmed
down a little bit. Okay, is that the best running

(00:26):
back wide receiver duo in the league.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
I know you're going to go here.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
I mean, take a deep thought. I mean, we we
love Gibbs and Saint Brown. But I mean that's in
the conversation. What else is in the conversation is.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Is this a conversation for this season or is this
a conversation for period? The potential this season?

Speaker 1 (00:47):
This season right now? So if you're looking at like
I I like Bucky Irving a lot, but him and
Mike Evans are not as good as as that duo, right,
Buffalo doesn't have anybody like that.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
So let's just let's start here. Let's northern for a second,
let's just come up with other duo.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
Karen Williams and pook in the court.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
All right, facts, Okay, so yes, I will take them,
but Pooka, Kiren Gibbs, Sam Brown, where else we're going
with that?

Speaker 1 (01:16):
Well, we're probably going with Sakuon Barkley and A well
A J. Brown's been awful this year.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
But see, and if we got to go with the
secondary receiver, then I put them above.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Though, But they're in the conversation. It's my point. No, no,
DeVante Smith's a really good player, and he's on your
fantasy team.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
He is, but for me, honest, he's still the number two.
Like he doesn't hold a candle to what Drake can
do realistically. And Bjon is just as good. Actually, Bjon
probably was ahead of Sakuon Barkley even with the two thousand. Okay,
so yeah, I would put them ahead. I mean, I
like Pop, I like Pooka and Kiren. Kiren's gotta stop fumbling, agreed,
He's gotta stop fumbling. Gibbs and Saint Brown. Gibbs hasn't

(01:53):
really gotten going yet. He's got touchdowns, he's got some yards,
he's got some stats. I know he's helping people fantasy out.
But tell me this, those who drafted Jamior Gibbs, are
you happy with the results, not as a Lions fan,
as a fantasy football fan, No, you're not so. And
a lot of people drafted him first overall. So I
would say Drake and Bjon, But I don't want to

(02:15):
be one game and figure it out.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
No.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
I understand they have the potential for sure, because.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
We love the wide receivers like Jamar Chase and Justin Jefferson.
Do they have the complimentary back Brown they can be
associated with what we're talking.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
About now, No, because freaking Minnesota, they're trying to figure
out who's even going to be their starting running back consistently.
Jordan one week and then moved because Aaron Ross wasn't.
Excuse me, Aaron Jones wasn't the same. They've moved their
running backs and then what did you say?

Speaker 1 (02:49):
Well, I was just saying in general, people don't have the.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
Jamar Chase, That's what I'm saying. Brown, Like Brown isn't
a Brown isn't the type of running back that Bejon
is anyway, He's more of a Christian McCaffrey. But then,
who's the one that's right, who's the one for them?

Speaker 1 (03:02):
So would you go so far as to say, uh
in Jig Butt and Kenneth Walker.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
And that once again, the running backs for Seattle, they
haven't had that type of year. I'm still waiting for
them to catch Oh, that's right. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
So basically that's why it's good to have and fun
to have these conversations. You can find the guy who
is or the team that is really good at one
the wide receivers. Like we said, Jamar Chase, you could
find Indianapolis with Jonathan Taylor and you have okay, yeah,
but then you know who is are they in that conversation?

(03:36):
It's probably not. It's not Drake, It's not Derrick Henry
and Trey Flowers, is it? No, So I think you've
really what we've basically said is there's three teams that
have that combo of wide receiver, elite wide receiver and
elite running back.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
He got Jash Jacobs, but then you don't have a
number one receiver at Matthew Golden is starting to take
strivees saw last week, but right now Romeo Doabas is
they're number one wide out and I'm not putting Romeo
damas as Yacobs up against any of the four that
we said, there you go. Yeah, so they're there.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
Yeah, so they're there. And I think it really comes
down to I think Atlanta or probably Detroit also too.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
To be in this category, you gotta have an offensive
coordinator that trusts both and features both because sometimes you'll see,
as you'll see teams, they'll feature one for this game,
one for that game, or we'll go away from it
this game. I don't know why. With amar Ro Saint Brown,
he is going to get his touches every single game,
Jamier Gibbs is going to get his touches every single game,

(04:32):
Kyle Williams, he's going to get his touches, Pook and
the Cool he's going to get his touches. And now
it seems like Drake and Bijon are both going to
get featured. That's who can go in this one, because
if you're not featured each game, you can't even go
in this conversation. So everybody that we're mentioning, that's why
Bucky earned that. It's like a lot of injuries, Like
the injuries are starting to play a factor. Like what

(04:52):
we'll be saying if certain people are healthy. So right now,
out of those, it's just those three consistent enough.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
And I like Karen Williams a lot, but you're right,
he fumbles much. Pukunuku is fantastic. If you had to
throw the quarterback in there, I would probably put the Rams.
I know, I'd put the Rams ahead of the Falcons.
I probably put the Rams ahead of the Lions too,
But with its just a running back and a wide receiver,
I think Atlanta has the best combo and then Detroit
is one B.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
Yeah, I'm not gonna lie to be honest, like Drake
London impressed me last night like he did, because I
haven't necessarily dialed in to watching them. Atlanta is a
tough watch. It has been a hard watch for the
last four years. They're very inconsistent. But watching him last night,
for a big body guy, he has control over his body.
With tall guys, that's what you want to know. Can
they control the ball? Can they control the routes? Can

(05:40):
they run the routes? Can they look under control with
that size?

Speaker 4 (05:44):
You know?

Speaker 2 (05:44):
Can you get in and out of breaks at six
y four? You know what I'm saying? Can you move
people at two hundred and twenty pounds, and yesterday I
saw him. Body was in good place. He made some
good catches. All of them were with his hands, and
he was always open or he's always into spaces that
it seemed like the route was dictated for. Was that
was special. Now it's against the Buffalo Bills, whose secondary

(06:04):
is depleted. It's not good, which is why they brought
back to Davius White, who was injured in four third stint.
But you have to play against who you play against.
And when I saw Jay Lennon is a lot better
than I thought he was. I think he can be
elite in this league. How good is Michael Pennock? Time
will tell, Yeah, I like that answer.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
I think that the reason I put Atlanta slightly ahead
of Detroit is just because Gibbs shares so much with
David Montgomery. And that's not a knock on him by
any stretch, because but Bjon Robinson's a pretty special talent.
The touchdown he had where he was able to break
to the outside and basically run away from two defenders,

(06:42):
I think there's very few running backs in the in
the National Football League can do that. I really do.
He's a He's a special talent, he's an awesome player.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
There's running backs that go out on the outside and
they make plays, and it was a big catch, was
a touchdown, or even if it was a tough catch,
like oh okay. But then there's very few running best
that you see you expect to make a player you
expect or you look and you're analyzing, and you're not
even taken to a fact that he's a running back.
You're just looking at it from a wide receiver standpoint.
Did he get his depth? How good was the route?

(07:12):
Did he get fourteen? Did he catch it over the side?
Like that's the type of wide receiver he is, Like,
I don't look at it from a running back point
of view anymore. You look at the play on the
sideline that he scored on. That is just an extreme
example of speed, power, and balance all in the same play.
Like he's all three. A lot of times you get one,
A lot of times you get maybe two to have speed,

(07:32):
power and balance Like the catch the tackle break, fine,
sure a ton of people can do that to keep
that one foot and we're never even thought about going
out of the bulls and he was able to pivot, turn,
put the left foot down on the inside and then
take off. Yeah, he's a special athlete, like even as
somebody is athletic. I look at that and like, yes,

(07:55):
that's another level of athletics and speed power.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
Yeah, fun to watch for sure. Speaking of putting feet down,
and what did you think of that Sam la Porter
catch back of the end zone. I was thinking about you.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
That's one of the greatest catches you'll ever see. And
I don't want to hype it up in the sense
of well, you're just no, that's one of the In fact,
the announcer said something. The announcer said, he said, that's
one of the greatest. I think he said, that's one
of the greatest catches you'll see. He's right, because everything
that has to take place on that catch. One he's
coming from left, he's coming from left to right, catches

(08:29):
it with the left hand, still gets both feet and
catches it one hand short, didn't have to worry about
moving it, catching it finishing. Then he gets two feet
down like perfectly gets down. Was able to transition from
catching it with one hand and now all of a
sudden I have to look down and get both fee
down like and it's at the back of the end zone.

(08:50):
Things get a lot tighter right there. The defensive player
was right there. It was in great position. It was
a great throw, minds you. But the catch, you're not
gonna see an individual be able to catch it with
the left hand, get both feet down in turn that easily.
The problem and why people won't understand how great of
a catch it was up is because it didn't look
hard to him. Like when you watch him like he

(09:12):
got it, he called it, he got his feet down,
and he walked away like nothing was it. He didn't
look like it was special. He didn't look like it
was magical. A lot of times, remember when Vincent Carter
first did the arm in the room, Remember he did
he did it so easily, so when everybody's watching it.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
At age forty two, for some reason, he could still
do it at age forty.

Speaker 2 (09:30):
So when I remember watching in two thousands dunk contest,
it was out in Golden State at the time, I'm like, okay,
because nobody reacted until you see the replay, until now
you can process what was done, what it takes to
be able to do that, to jump so high that
you get all of this in the room and get
hang on the rim now you see the stars get excited.

(09:51):
So then you realize, way that Shack's going crazy, if
Kg's going crazy, if Chris Webber's going crazy, maybe it
was crazy. I think that's what that catch was like.
He made it look too easy and he got to
the sideline too fast. That catch is one of the
best catches I've ever seen, and that's not blowing smoke
in terms of everything that went into being able to
catch the ball one hand, get two feet down and

(10:13):
then turn on enzon on a defender. Mind you, there
was a defender there, so I think because it was
so easy looking for him, it won't get the credit
that it really deserves. It was a special catch up.

Speaker 1 (10:26):
That's well said. That's why I love getting your thoughts
on something like that. You brought Vince Carter, the Hall
of Famer, played till he was forty three.

Speaker 2 (10:33):
He's trying to play again.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
He's just an unbelievable athlete. I got more left in
the you know what I honestly got. I believe that
I was calling a Pistons game on TV back in
two thousand and eighteen or nineteen, and he was a
Sacramento okay, and he was out there playing and he
was making some things happen, and he hit a three
from the left wing, and I remember looking down in

(10:56):
my notes and say, Carter for three, got it? That
is his And I gave the number of threes that
he had hit in his career and at.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
The age of forty seventh.

Speaker 1 (11:06):
I think he was forty at the time. It's not
just that, it's just how fluid he was at that age. Look,
I do not like, and I never will like Lebron James,
but I can at least admit that dude at his
age is an absolute freakazoid. Yeah, something, I mean, there's
something different in the water there, right, And the same

(11:29):
thing was with Viz Carter. I mean for him to
play his same thing with Nolan Ryan, same thing with
Pete Rose. It's it's not unique to just basketball. It's
not unique to one position. What those guys do, Tom Brady,
how well he took care of his body, I don't know.
All I know is when you can play at that
high of a level, and Vince Carter was still playing
at a pretty high level. He's forty three, but he's

(11:49):
still averaging like fifteen minutes a game.

Speaker 2 (11:51):
Okay, when you guys conversated yesterday speaking of his Chiefs game.
When you conversated about the game, when the chat was talking,
how much of the chat was we put ourselves in
this situation because one of the things I talked about,
I say you have to be disciplined. Yes, I say
you have to be disciplined. I say, you cannot allow them.
You cannot allow them to allow the refs to cheat.

(12:13):
So you can't put yourself in that space. How many
people were mad at how the Lions play versus how
many people were mad at the refs and the Chiefs?
Was there half and half talk about it?

Speaker 1 (12:23):
Yeah, kool aid? How would you have judged the chat
yesterday in that regard? I think obviously people are emotional
and they didn't like the way some of the things
were efficient, the way some of the calls went. But
I think they were also frustrated that the Lions missed opportunities.
But look, we know the ones that stand out. So

(12:45):
it's the golf play where he goes under center for
a brief moment. I think somebody on social media used
Tom Brady as an example where he literally went in motion,
caught a touchdown pass in a game and there was
no flag there when Patrick Mahomes is doing his thing
in the end zone to Brian Branch and there's no

(13:06):
flag there for taunting. Okay, the Travis Kelsey catch was
an absolute abomination of a no of a no call,
the block in the back and then the illegal motion
every once in a while for a team not to
get a penalty, Brailan, the bottom line was the chat
kool a cripman from here. Yeah, the bottom line was

(13:27):
for a team not to get a penalty and run
sixty two plays and have that for the first time
in the last three hundred plus football games. I think
people had a legitimate gripe.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
Yeah, I definitely think it's a legitimate grip and I
think we will see this team again realistically. Ooh really,
Oh no, you got have to span on that, bro.
I told you two weeks ago I didn't want to play.
Excuse me, I told you two weeks ago. I said,
the Lion's about to play the Browns. I said, I
don't care about this Browns game. I don't care about it.
I said, what do I care about? Like I said,
I said, in ten days, they play against the Kansas

(14:01):
City Chiefs in the night game. And I believe the
Chiefs are getting people back. It's going to be at home,
starting to look like they got some issues that they're
figuring out. I want to see how that game looks.
And then the Chiefs win, and now I'm excited. Controversially, no,
definitely a controversial win. I'm one hunderdercent agreeing with each other.
I'm agreeing with you can't have zero ponies when I

(14:21):
can show you seven players and it's at home and
it's consistent, it's becoming a thing. It gets to the
point where you're gonna head coaches and the Mark Verboere
they're just laughing. They're legitimately laughing, like that's how crazy
it's been to where now head coaches in the NFL
they can't even get mad, like they're laughing.

Speaker 1 (14:37):
Well, so that means this though the league is not sensitive.
But the league understands perception.

Speaker 2 (14:47):
Right, they do.

Speaker 1 (14:48):
There's examples of it everywhere. Okay, they understand what people
are talking about, what people feel and so on and
so forth. How do they not read this proverbial room.

Speaker 2 (14:58):
I just don't think they give up perfectly. I just
don't think they care because coming into this game against
the Lions. All people talked about is who's going to
be the twelfth man for the Kansas City Chiefs the Zebras.
That's all everybody talked about. And we have its situation
upon situation upon situation, or examples of it being the
case for the Chiefs in the past four years. Hell,

(15:19):
you can just say two, if you can say one,
if you're going to go that route. So you know
that you come into a game, and how do you
respond to that? You ignore three egregious plays, you ignore
seven on the total, and then you also just ignore
everything because you finish the game with zero calls on
the Kansas City Chiefs. That means they can't read the room. No,
that means they don't care.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
Are you right as a player against them? Do you
think Lions players would you be recognizing? Man, they haven't
been whistled for one penalty.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
That's what gets you to the Brian Brand situation at
the end of the game. I'm not making excuses for it.
You know that's my guy. I signed with Dan Campbell.
Let's start there. I side with Dan Campbell say, I
don't have to say anymore, but I understand aggression. I
understand it because when you go into a game and
you know, we've had to deal with this before. What
did they see two years ago that they may have

(16:08):
ignored because they won the game. So you come into
this game and then you experience things. Now, one play,
not to play, a couple plays and you lose the
game and losing ads insult. Now you lose, Now you
a little bit. Now you see red like the Bulls
and the Lonely Tunes cartoons back in the day. And
now you make the move, which is an idiotic move.
But I understand the frustration, but the frustration can't turn

(16:29):
into that.

Speaker 1 (16:30):
Agreed, It's a selfish play, it's a stupid play. And
he's my guy too. I love him, outstanding player. I
did want to ask you this because there was a
little bit of a debate between me and Anson yesterday
regarding this.

Speaker 2 (16:44):
What are you talking about?

Speaker 1 (16:45):
Well, my belief is there is a referee meeting every
single time before the game with the coaches not together.
But the referees come in and meet with head coach
Braylan Edwards. They meet with head coach kool A.

Speaker 2 (16:59):
We see him coming in. Sure, absolutely takes.

Speaker 1 (17:01):
About ten minutes, go over a few things in a
refresher at that point. I think there are coaches when
they have something a bag of tricks up their sleeve.
I want you to know we're doing something similar to this.
They're not telling you down in distance when it's going
to happen, but they're giving you a heads up to
be on the lookout for it. Skipper a couple of

(17:22):
years ago, catching the pass right or reporting to the referee,
do you believe that is something that Dan Campbell indicated
to the referees number one and number two? How bad
did they get it wrong or how right were they
considering how late they threw the flag?

Speaker 2 (17:40):
I would say definitely he had a conversation with the refs.
We know what happened in Dallas two years ago. We
know how big of a stinger that was. Even though
we know it was on them, fine, Dan went out
of his way to make sure from the very rest,
for the very rest of his time as a head coach.
Since then, he has talked to the rest, He's reported plays.
He told him he's crack jokes about it. You've seen that,

(18:00):
hey reporting reporting. They made jokes about it, but the
joke didn't stop. They kept it going. I know this
for a fact that he's doubt and they had the conversation.
They just didn't care. They simply just didn't care. Now
as relates to the penalty, here we go again, kool A.
Remember I told you what I wanted the Netflix documentary
to be about. I wanted to all the call that
randomly happened on the Lions that haven't happened for sixty

(18:23):
seventy eighty ninety one hundred years. Oh, here's this call? Yeah,
and what team was it? The Detroit Lions. I'm like,
I've never heard this. What is this call? Even?

Speaker 1 (18:30):
Why isn't that a catch?

Speaker 2 (18:32):
I've been watching football, we get add it. I can
watch football and understand football. I've been playing football for
lower knows on long. Never never have heard this. I
still don't. Never heard it happen.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
Joe Goff didn't hear it, and they indicated to the
referees that they were going to run it. He thought
it was you had to have your hands under center.
There's a communication problem between the National Football League and
its player.

Speaker 5 (18:52):
I am so glad you said that, because when we
go back to the Dallas game, we all were made
aware that the Detroit Lions take their trick place to
the roughs and tell them every detail of it.

Speaker 1 (19:02):
Well that they do that before the game. But I
think what he's referring to is Dan Skipper actually went
up to the reference and I am reporting, hello, do
you know? Do you hear me?

Speaker 2 (19:12):
Right? And then if you're gonna get if you're gonna
make a call like that, please make it on time.

Speaker 1 (19:17):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (19:18):
Like you can alleviate a lot of the bs, you
can link. We won't be having this conversation on Tuesday.
Regardles if I missed yesterday or not, if you were
just through the flag, because you guys read the rule book.
You guys know the rule book, so you you knew
what happened, knew what the call was, so you knew
right then and there who flag gonna play? Or was it? Huh,

(19:41):
we can't have And that's not what it is. But
that's what it is, shut like, that's not what it
is that we don't we don't believe. So that's exactly
what it is right away. That's a file Patrick touchdown,
don't touchdown, wave the touchdown off, don't let Jared off
through a ten minute celebration. Don't let everybody get excited

(20:04):
usually when the flag is thrown right away receivers who
are he was receiving in this place? Call touchdown? You
do the song, dann. You took a look. There was nothing.
There was nothing on the initial look back. Once he
turns around after he's talking to the crowd, and then
all of a sudden he takes a couple more steps
and gets out of the end zone. Now, all of
a sudden, here's the laundry. Here's the explanation. So I

(20:24):
just think, if you're gonna call a call like they
just get it right at the beginning, don't make it
look like you didn't know the rule book, which seems
to happen exactly a year.

Speaker 1 (20:32):
It does make it look like you don't know what
you're doing as a refereeing team and the league. It
makes it look like we're uncertain this can't be reviewed,
so we'll throw the flag.

Speaker 2 (20:45):
There's a lot of rules that I'm starting to realize
I don't understand. I don't know. And what I'm starting
to also realize is I ain't the only one, because
it seems like a lot of referees don't know the
NFL rules as well.

Speaker 1 (20:55):
It's one thing to your point, I think it becomes
a lot more credible if the referee is there throws
it right away, but for them to convene, talk about it,
then throw the flag, try to convene again and realize,
you know what, maybe this is exactly what happened where
they just look uncertain of it all.

Speaker 2 (21:15):
It also looks like the It also looks like the
information is coming from somewhere else and that's illegal.

Speaker 1 (21:23):
Yeah, I didn't get that indication that would come for
the chiefs, but you know, with a piece from New York, you're.

Speaker 2 (21:28):
There, you go like if somebody's giving you information from
You're like, hey, that's illegal. Blah blah blah. It's up
to the head ref to make a rule in the
indications and once they get there, then they can have
that conversation. But you don't those guys are on TV. Yeah,
you can't call those guys. They can't radio to you
and say hey, this was going on. But that's what
it feels like exactly. Somebody gave a phone call and said, hey,

(21:51):
look you can pull out this level six paragraph twelve,
it says, I know I'm going crazy.

Speaker 1 (21:59):
No, you're Britain. This is not Major League Baseball. Years
from now where somebody is upstairs pressing ball or strike okay,
and telling the home played umpire. This is an NFL
referee team, and there's a lot of rules. We understand
that they're supposed to know that rule, and they're supposed
to know it right away, and what they did was

(22:20):
screw the Lions. And I'm sorry, I'm not talking as
a homer here. I hope people know me, but that
is unacceptable at that level. I doubt there's a point
where Andy Reid is going, you know that chicken tastes
pretty good. I just don't think I don't think that's
I don't think that's legal. I think he tapped Graham

(22:42):
Glasgow's ass and then he went in motion. I don't
think you're allowed to do that. I bet you Andy
Reid didn't know the rule either. I don't think anybody did,
and I still question the rule to be honest with you,
But speaking to the chiefs, you'd mentioned that the league
is wide open. How wide open? We'll give you an
example of just how wide it open it is after
we hear from this opening shutcase from Ben Johnson.

Speaker 2 (23:03):
I like what you did there, Corporation, even your insurance
company will do whatever it takes to minimize their liability
and withhold your conversation. Nobody wants to be liable for anything,
even the things that they should be liable for. But
that that's why you got Ben Johnson long. That's why
he should be and will be your attorney because he's
a fighter. So you gotta let them fight for you.
You gotta make him the first call so he can

(23:25):

out sun Cruiser. Why wouldn't you do that sun Cruiser vodka?
I ised tea. I ran into Anson earlier today and he's
got the T shirt, the free T shirt that he
didn't give. What gift to me? The sun Cruiser Vodka
iced tea, real iced tea, real vodka, no bubbles. It's crisp,

(28:19):
it's refreshing, it's only one hundred calories and it's four
and a half percent alcohol. It really is. It's perfect
for you're gonna watch some baseball tonight, maybe, Okay, It's
a great time to sit down and enjoy something refreshing
like that after a hard day's work. If you're out
there playing golf, it's not gonna bloat you down. Actually,
it might give you a little bit of a pick

(28:41):
me up and you might make that eighteen foot Birdie putt.
So this season, let the good times cruise with Sun
Cruiser and Woodward Sports, and please drink responsibly. Hey, we
bet I was looking. I don't know why I do this,
because how many is are really that important? But I
was looking at the various websites and I wanted to
see the power rankings of the National Football League and

(29:05):
see where Detroit is at. Okay, all right, And one
of the first ones I clicked on Unfortunately I could not.
I mean, I'm not kiddy you, man, I get that
we can be very hyperbolic in sports in general these days.
Maybe you hear this one, but let me just give
you this one real quick. Sports Illustrated is it? I mean,

(29:29):
do you think s I say.

Speaker 2 (29:30):
First of all reputable. First of all, I have not
paid attention to Sports Illustrated, And since I left high school,
like ma, I'm lying because I'm two thousand and one. Yeah,
I was still living to Sports Illustrated. I want to say,
maybe like seven, I was done with Sports Illustrate and
I never looked back.

Speaker 1 (29:46):
I'm not Yeah, and I agree with you. And I'm
not talking about the swimsuit editions or I'm not talking
about I'm not even talking about the magazine itself. We're
talking about the website SI dot com.

Speaker 2 (29:56):
Man. No, in my opinion, I don't think so.

Speaker 1 (29:58):
Yeah. I peruse that every single day just to see
what's interesting. So I always click on the football rankings
because I want to see where the Lions are, but
also the division. Guess who they have is the number
one team this week? They do it weekly. It's kind
of a fun weekly discussion. Who do you think is
the number one team this.

Speaker 2 (30:19):
Week all Football New England Patriots.

Speaker 1 (30:25):
That's a surprising guess.

Speaker 2 (30:27):
But okay, I like you the way in which you
asked the question.

Speaker 1 (30:30):
I like I like you went outside the box kool aid.

Speaker 2 (30:33):
Yeah, sorry, said.

Speaker 1 (30:35):
I said, which team at SI dot com? Which team
do you think has the number one in the NFL
power rankings this week?

Speaker 5 (30:42):
Bucks will be my guess if I was being serious,
I'm thinking Bucks or Bucks O case, we have the Patriots, Bucks, Ryan,
I saw it beforehand, so I won't.

Speaker 1 (30:50):
They have the Chiefs. Wait what I know? They have
the Chiefs at three and three. Now, that tells me
one of two things. A, you know some they needs
to be drug tested, or be they really value the
win over the Lions. So that tells me, you know,
if it's the latter, then that's really cool. But still,
they have Kansas City, then they have Tampa, then Seattle, Indianapolis,

(31:14):
and then Detroit. So Detroit is a top five team
for what that's worth.

Speaker 2 (31:21):
I'm always able to compartmentalize and not judge from like
a bias standpoint, and so I can always see two sides.
For this side, I see, here's Patrick Mahomes he's all
he's still until until proven otherwise, best player in the league.
We talked about this earlier this year. We said it
was him and he won at Miles Garrett. That became
to you still have him, you still have any reading.

(31:42):
Now you have Rashie Rice who starts this week. Now
you have Xavier Worthy who's finding passes, finding the end zone.
Still can't necessarily figure the running back Situay. It's not
but Pacheco is running harder. They put him back in
there as a starter over Kareem Hunt. That looks better.
Offensive line seems to be protecting a little litle bit more.
Still have some defensive players on the other side. Nick

(32:03):
Bolton's playing some really good football. So it's Karl Loftus.
Chris Jones is Chris Jones who figured out you saw
a couple of players against the Lions and then you
got a really good dB. Why not, like if I'm
a sports illustrated, why not have the guy that always
seems to figure it out, like the team that always
seems to figure it out. We've been at this very
same crux two years ago. The Kansasity Chiefs start off

(32:26):
the same exact way, same exact way, and then they
found themselves. They got to the Super Bowl and they
won the Super Bowl, and then last year found themselves
in Super Bowl. Yeah again, but they got destroyed. So
you know, you.

Speaker 1 (32:38):
Said this three weeks ago about Kansas City. I think
the slight difference might be I think their division is better.
I think the Chargers and Broncos are better than they
were the Kansas City went through.

Speaker 2 (32:49):
That true, But if I'm making this, if I'm writing
this and this has been my pick, then in that case,
I'm telling myself I don't fully buy the Chargers. Without
that offensive line. They don't look the same as it
did in the beginning of the year. They won late
in the game.

Speaker 1 (33:03):
That's a fair point.

Speaker 2 (33:04):
They don't look the same Bowl knicks and that that
still doesn't necessarily look all the way there defenseless good.
But on offense, you're like, there's some plays and there's
also mixed plays. They don't have a run game like
J K. Dimonds and the little things that they do.
They use their ride receivers. They're running back. So when
they use JK. Dowald and Ron Harvey, I think R. J. Harvey.
And then the other one is the Raiders. So when

(33:25):
you look at from that lens, I'm like, not worry
about the Raiders. I don't buy the Chargers fully. I'm
just not gonna lie. I don't buy them fully. And
then Sean Payton's is showing me howy he shown I buy?
I buy the Broncos. Okay, so I buy them with
the Broncos at the end. But who do you buy
in terms of when there's Dames on the line.

Speaker 1 (33:45):
Yeah, and the Kansas City's proven it, right, I mean
it's it's a proven commodity, so you want that and
some different than trading stocks. You know, you're you're dealing
with something that you truly trust. You said New England,
where I think's really good. I do, But Indianapolis doesn't
nearly enough love, I don't think right now. I think
just people are like that one surprised me. I didn't
pick it before the season, so I can't go there

(34:07):
just yet. You've got to show me more. Here's a
couple other ones. Okay, I'll give you the CBS Sports.
CBA Sports says Tampa one, to your point, Green Bay two,
the Steelers three, the Colts four, and the Lions five.
You're Patriots at nine. They pushed the bull Bills all
the way down to ten and one more for you,

(34:29):
and that is ESPN, Tampa, Detroit, Buffalo, Indie, and Philly,
which is a little surprising considering Philadelphia. I mean, I
would I think, you know, Green Bay's playing better than
both Philadelphia and Buffalo right now, but it's such a

(34:49):
long way to go. I just find it very interesting
to see where they have it. Detroit all and all
of these is in the top five. That's not a
surprise to us. I still think they're the best team
in football, but it's hard to prove that when Tampa
and the Colts have done some things that they've done
so far this year. I mean, the Colts lead lead
the league in point differential seventy something to Detroit. Detroit's

(35:11):
got forty six. To put it in perspective, I think
Detroit's got a plus forty six in scoring differential, and
I think that can be often. I try not to
get too involved in too many statistics, too many numbers,
because you've kind of showed me that sometimes those lie
in football. But I think Detroit's really good. I just
said I think they're the best team in football. They

(35:32):
are a plus forty six. Okay, forty nine. I'm sorry,
they're plus forty nine. The Colts are a plus in
differential seventy eight. That's a pretty big difference anyway, go ahead.

Speaker 2 (35:45):
No, I was gonna say that what these rankings show
me is that no one knows. Yeah, these rankings show
me and no one knows right now. It's a lot
of football being played. A lot of teams you thought
were doing this and doing this, and a lot of
teams you thought weren't going to exist are showing you.

Speaker 8 (35:57):
I e.

Speaker 2 (35:57):
The Colts, Hey, you give us a comparable quarterback. It
was a comfortable coach and we could figure some things out.
The reason why the Lions are five and both of
those makes a lot of sense because who do they
play this week? They play the number one seed. Anybody's like,
if they lose, we can gladly move them down to whatever.
If they win, then we'll supplan and we'll move them up.
So that's why the Lions are five on this list
because it's because they play the number one team this week. Yeah,

(36:20):
so it's like we'll put them five and whatever happens,
we'll adjust on Monday. Either we're sliding them down or well,
we'll just put them right back at number one after
they beat the Bucks.

Speaker 1 (36:29):
Somebody in the chat said the Lions suck recently. So
I don't know what's going to happen to this team.
I'm not I wouldn't say they sucked by any stretch,
would you. And Ali McNeil might he might be available
this Sunday against Tampa. Brian Branches has appealed his suspension,
so with that in mind, he should be good to
go against Tampa, which should make people feel a little

(36:52):
bit better.

Speaker 2 (36:53):
Yeah, noide got text that was hilarious. Sorry about that.
It's a former teammate came in town for the situation,
but he's never had He's always funny, even in serious times.
He's always funny. Somebody probably sometimes you need that, if
you need the fun it was well needed. It was
well needed. Looking at the line in terms of how
they've played, Uh, they've been inconsistent. You know, because now

(37:15):
that you you know now you have more injuries in
the secondary, you're starting to look at this game against
the Chiefs didn't necessarily look good. You go back to
some games from struggles running the ball at times against
the Cleveland Browns, even at times against Cincinnati towards the
end of the game which was blown, which over, Still
you let some players get away from you. So there
are some things that the Lions have to get better at,

(37:36):
and they're starting to show their head a little bit.
Remember when beginning of the season, jamiir goals for ninety
six yards, Dave Montgomery goals with sixty and everybody's all
the run games back. I told you, I said, I
don't like how they remember between the tackles, like they
still have not found a way to run between those tackles.
And if you're not going to be able to run
between the tackles, you will get exposed when you play better.

Speaker 1 (37:56):
Who does it well? Who runs between the you watch?
You watch a ton of foot.

Speaker 2 (38:00):
The Taylor runs well between the tackles. So the Colts
have figured it out because their running back understands that.
In terms of right now, who else is running well
between the tackles. Kyen Williams runs well between the tackles
when he's not fumbling, obviously the individual that we saw
last night, and John Robinson, he runs well between the tackles.
He runs well on the outside as well. Bucky Irvin

(38:21):
when he was healthy, was running well between the tackles.
Seems like Tampa had figured that out. He's now injured
at times. David Montgomery and the Lions have figured it out,
like not did Jamier gives so much yet Dave Montgomery
and the Lions. They go to the zone blocking scheme. We
saw some double on double against the Bears that worked well.

Speaker 1 (38:39):
So there's a lot of that because Gibbs might want
to bounce it to the outside to showcase his speed
a little bit more, something that maybe some of the
bigger backs can't always necessarily do.

Speaker 2 (38:50):
I would say that's fair, but he did it last
year when Kevin Zeitley was your right guard, but Frank
Ragnow was your center, and when Graham Glasgow was your
left guard. He ran between the tackles last year. In fact,
he ran between the tackles so well. When David Montgomery
got hurt, we said, he's him, like we said that
Jim mc gibbs can be. He could be RB one

(39:10):
and solo. We said that, and tell me I'm lying.
You know you're right, tell me I'm lying. In this chat,
we saw him be able to run inside tackles, use
zone right off of Kevin Zeiler right off of Frank
Rag now also bounce it out to the outside because
of his for two speed, because of the electric the
electricity and even when they want to use him in
screens and things. But we saw that last year. This year,

(39:33):
not so much anything that's changed. It's the offensive line
in front of him.

Speaker 1 (39:40):
When we come back, we're going to talk about frauds.
There are some fraudulent. Some fraud got called somebody more
than one may have gotten about it. And Braylan's got
another one that's coming up here on the Edward Shoe.

Speaker 1 (45:40):
We've seen some coaches get pink slipped already. Yesterday rest
today was Brian Callahan for the Tennessee Titans. Over the
weekend it was James Franklin get Air coach Penn State.

Speaker 2 (45:53):
I'm glad he got fired. Which one James Franklin, Kelly
and I you know, I don't know very much about it.

Speaker 1 (45:58):
Why why thet James Franklin.

Speaker 2 (46:02):
Because he got paid way too much money to be
an individual that couldn't win big games. And the way
in which he sells you on the program in which
he sells the recruit he never really took on this
for it. He sits at the podium and says the
same things. He deflects every time he gets to that
microphone after you lose a big game or after he deflects.
He's just been the same coach. And I feel like
Penn State is a school that could win a national

(46:22):
championship if they had the right coach. I'm looking at
it from that standpoint, Like I didn't go to Penn
State at all, so I don't care that way. But
when you watch the coach just misuse the program, it's
like they could be more than what they are. That's
tough for sure, Like what they did in the last
two games, that's goofball mentality. Yeah, I agree with that,
that is goofy. And then to have a Penn State

(46:44):
that you're backing, which is a major institution where you
can get five stars and four stars and you're actually
a good recruiter, to continue to have these moments where
you just can't beat these teams, and it's always the
same thing. That means you aren't trying. That means you're
not going out there trying to recruit the players that
you need to change the culture or change the thing
and bring in different players at some point doing the

(47:06):
same thing expecting a different result. That's the definition of
the sanity.

Speaker 1 (47:10):
Yeah, I think I'm not going to blat I don't
know James Franklin. I can't say that I necessarily like him.
I don't.

Speaker 2 (47:17):
I think he's cool. I think he's a cool person.
This is buy him as.

Speaker 1 (47:21):
He seems like it. It seems like the people who
you hear from who played for him say that he
treats you right. So I could appreciate that he's been
there for ten years, he has, you know, not done
a great job against a really good team. Sure, I
think he's fourth all time in Penn State history in

(47:42):
wins or something along those lines. But is he second second?

Speaker 2 (47:46):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (47:46):
I thought he was. I thought he was fourth, I
thought he yeah. Maybe this was okay, Yeah, maybe you're
right behind Joe paternal anyway, in big games. Obviously not good,
top ten, top five, you can break it down. He
just isn't. You don't beat me Chigan you don't beat
Ohio State not good in the conference either. I can't
say that you know you're not trying. I'm sure he
is trying hot. I think he recruits high end talent

(48:10):
to Happy Valley. But there's something that happens on game
day or maybe during the week that leaves him exposed.
And I don't know what that is. I don't like
to see anybody lose their job, I really don't. But
it was time to cut that cord. And he didn't
just lose big games this time. He lost two games

(48:30):
to teams that those were embarrassing losses. And you can't
handle that if you're a program like that, you just can't.

Speaker 2 (48:38):
I just don't understand. If I was of oar Aarrington
and I was watching because I'm hung out with our
bunch out to my boy, I don't understand how you
watch a game and then watch them lose to a
team that legitimately just fired their head coach, offensive coordinat
and defensive cordion. You get ran out, you get ran
off the field, right. I couldn't. I couldn't watch that,
and then you turn around in the getback game the
following week against a sorry big ten skoul and this

(49:00):
say a team is sorry in the Big ten and
Big tenn sorry. So to say a Big ten team
is sorry, that takes it another level. You lost in
Northwestern favorite to win both games by twenty or more
points technically twenty two.

Speaker 1 (49:12):
Or was it a homecoming I think so.

Speaker 10 (49:14):
Yeah, it came home or Northwestern is typically a homecoming game.

Speaker 5 (49:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (49:18):
I mean when you want to bring the equivalent of
Braillen Edwards back to your campus and say, look, this
is what we're building, this is who's representing you. Now,
this is who we are and you fall flat on
in your face like that, and you have a winning
percentage against top twenty five teams at sixteen percent, that's
what it is. When you are four and twenty one

(49:39):
against top ten opponents, that's a hard pill to keep
swallowing the year after the year. No matter how much
he makes, how much he makes, to me, sure, I
think it's a factor. There's no doubt. He goes out
and gets it.

Speaker 2 (49:51):
Okay, go ahead.

Speaker 1 (49:52):
I don't care how much you make. If you can
get it, if you can find somebody to give it
to you, go get it. Go ahead, But you better
live up to it.

Speaker 2 (49:58):
If you go get it. In my profession as well
as yours, we have a job to focus on interviews
that make more especially when they can't get the job.
That's right when they supposed to get the job. Then
also too show it was crazy because it's not just
like they were losing the Michigan Ohio State if they
would play at Georgia, if they would play Alabama when
Alabama was good. They were losing to ranked teams in
the Big Ten. They would lose when Iowa was ranked

(50:19):
ahead of them, when Wisconsin was ranked ahead of them,
like Minnesota was ranked, they would lose, Like huh, make
that make sense? And we talked about this with Drewalen.
James Franklin was not there throwing the pass. But players
play in the same image of how their coaches are.
If you're confident coach, players will play confidence. If you're
over there nervous, if you're over there giving off energy.

(50:41):
Maybe Dreale was like, shoot, I gotta throw a touchdown
because the coach is gonna get fired. Oops, I throw interception,
got fired anyways, Yeah, right, that's real too, because you
embody the energy that you're coaching bodies. I've played for
nervous coaches. And I've seen teams be nervous, and I
played for coaches be like, oh no, coaches about their life.
He has prepared us. He feels good. We'll go out
there and embody what he does? You have?

Speaker 1 (51:02):
You've watched him enough. Do you think he gets another job?

Speaker 2 (51:04):
Yes? Absolutely, because he did everything right. And I give
him credit for saving that program after what he took
it over from. Yeah, he deserves he deserves his another shot,
for sure. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (51:13):
He inherited. He inherited for the most. I mean, Matt
Ruhle put it pretty well. He's a he's a graduate
in ABRASA. People wanted to know if he's next. He said,
he loves it in Lincoln. He said, he's got a
house there. He loves the people there, he loves the
culture there. He's got a great relationship with his athletic director,
all the right things, he said at the podium the

(51:35):
other day. But someone's gonna get James Franklin. I don't
know who that necessarily would be. But there are other
big ten coaches I think who are on the lookout
for a change.

Speaker 2 (51:49):
That Matt rule conversation. If that's how he wased it,
I see that. If I was a Penn State Nitney Laia,
I would be excited because at no point did he
shut it down. He basically just talked about all the
other things. I have a great relation here. I got this, this,
and this, that and the third. If you're not going
when Mike Toman never gets Whenever they asked Mike tom
about is he leaving or what's the next move, he

(52:10):
walks away from the podium. Yeah, you have to be
if you're not going to take a job, listen to
answer is no. I love my job here. Don't ask
me again about Penn State. I don't know what they do.
This is my job.

Speaker 1 (52:21):
But on the other hand, you don't close any door either. Okay,
you don't say no just for the sake of no.
You should be willing to listen to just about anybody,
shouldn't you.

Speaker 2 (52:31):
True. But I'm saying more so, like for coach speak
during a microphone, like when a press conference, like if
I don't want the story to run longer, yeah, I
think I'm gonna just set it down after one. I'm saying,
that's a good point. I appreciate you guys bringing up
but look, I'm very happy here man, get out here.
Can we go on with the next the next question?

Speaker 1 (52:46):
Yeah, he knew he was going to get the questions.
You got to be prepared to prepare an answer like that.
The other names that right now, the other positions that
some people feel like, I mean, obviously North Carolina because
it's been an absolute train wreck there with Bill Belichick
and Michael.

Speaker 2 (53:04):
Party, James Franklin.

Speaker 1 (53:05):
That wouldn't I bet you would be a pretty.

Speaker 2 (53:07):
Much would be. He wouldn't get fired.

Speaker 1 (53:09):
Basketball would take priority, that's right. And he's already been
at Vanderbilt, which where basketball took priority. Actually Vanderbilt baseball
takes priority there.

Speaker 2 (53:18):
He can go be eight and four, he can go
be eighty four for the next fifteen years and nobody
would care.

Speaker 10 (53:22):
It's just like the Kentucky Jacks.

Speaker 1 (53:24):
Well, depending on the nil I mean, if if they're
if they're pouring in nil and I don't know how
much they're bringing in, but that that's the only thing
that has changed in college athletics. But the pressure, to
your point, the pressure would not be there like it
would be at Penn State. Right, Yeah, you're right.

Speaker 10 (53:39):
And I was about to ask Lee, like, what do
you what would be the higher for Penn State is
Signetti a rule.

Speaker 1 (53:45):
Well, Signetti already makes nine million dollars in Indiana and
he pays his assistance, which is really big. I think
that's one of the most important things. James Franklin brought
in a good staff. He's got good but me Jim Knowles,
they paid three million dollars for the defensive coordinator he's had.
He has had coaches leave and be successful elsewhere. Right, Yeah,

(54:05):
he's had some really good coaches. Maybe he's just not
good on game day. I don't know what the situation,
but I don't Why do we think Penn State Signetty
would leave Indiana for Penn State when we already know
the pressure cooker in Indiana you just talked about a
basketball school is not necessarily there. He's making good money,
he's got unbelievable support from his front office and his administration.

(54:28):
Why would that be the case?

Speaker 2 (54:31):
I don't know. Maybe because Indiana's still Indiana. They give
me all you want to about what they're doing, and
they were number two team in the country last year
and blah blah blah, they're undefeated and he's doing it
and it's still Indiana. When I think Indiana. I think
about the ball going between in the hoop. Yeah, I
think about the ball going in the hoop. I think
about red and white pants on the court on o

(54:52):
har with Bobby Knight, Like school, I can take you
through all the players, but it's still Penn State. Penn
State is an experience right now. Penn State is one
of the largest experience and just think you can be
the individual. Yeah, you turned around Indiana, but can you
turn around Penn State? Can you take Penn State to
that next level?

Speaker 1 (55:11):
Coaches look for that challenge. They love that type of challenge.

Speaker 2 (55:14):
I do too, for sure, Yeah, for sure.

Speaker 1 (55:16):
And if it's not at the collegiate level, the professional level,
I think James Franklin, get another guy, Like if you're Wisconsin,
I mean Luke Fickle's gonna get fired.

Speaker 2 (55:24):
Right, I don't think of Wisconsin. Also, I think it's.

Speaker 1 (55:26):
Gonna be the worst record since two thousand and one.

Speaker 2 (55:28):
All right, what do you feel you can accomplish at
an institution?

Speaker 1 (55:32):
So there's the next question.

Speaker 2 (55:34):
Is Brian Kelly. Brian Kelly feel like he accomplished all
He couldn't know the Dame and he needed to get
the SEC to get a National championship. He left Notre
Dame and they were eleven two and didn't even know
if they were in. Now now we knew they were't
going to get in. Yeah, because they were independent.

Speaker 1 (55:46):
Nick Saban left LSU, right, he knew what was coming.
A little deeper, yeah, probably, But it does beg the
question how far can you go into a program? How
far do you think you can take one specific program?
What Kurt Signetti right now is the best Indiana football
coach that school's ever had agreed, and he's only been

(56:08):
there two years. Right, it's crazy, but that's how bad
it is. I don't know if automatically people turn on him.
If suddenly next year they happen to go nine and three,
I doubt it. However, if you go to Penn State
in your nine and three and you lose to Michigan
and you lose to.

Speaker 2 (56:25):
Ohio State, money coming You're still going to a bowl.

Speaker 1 (56:27):
Game and money's coming in, and that's fine, but you're
not beating the teams you're supposed to be. There is
a different feel there than there is obviously in Bloomington.

Speaker 2 (56:34):
But change this is what will be cool for whoever
takes his job. Let's let's say it, Signetti, what is
the outlier for why Penn State hasn't had the success.
It's a very similar thing why Michigan had had success.
It was the quarterback position. Like they keep getting the
same style of quarterbacks. You get a guy six foot

(56:54):
six one and a half, you can tell you play
a little bit of basketball, has some athleticism to him.
He's not the fastest quarterback. He's definitely not the slowest.
He's tough, his arm average. Usually uses tight ends like
Michah Sicki a little bit more than use Tyler Warren.
You use the tight ends spot. You don't have elite
wide receivers. News flash, Big ten necessarily doesn't have a

(57:15):
ton of those, with.

Speaker 1 (57:16):
The exception Allen Robinson was pretty good.

Speaker 2 (57:18):
True, But I'm saying, like the Big Tens, I would
change the format like they can't. Defense is fine. Holly
recruit on defense. Holly bringing defensive players, d backs, linebackers.
We get that. You gotta go find a quarterback, and
you gotta go find you two three star wide receivers.
Penn State's got money. You have to change the recruiting pool.
You have to change what you're doing. You gotta change.

(57:38):
You gotta bring that attitude. And James Frankl was recruiting
the same type of players every year. The wide receivers
look like running backs, they look like the quarterback. They're
all the same size, they're all the same stature, they're
all the same hike. I'm not making this up. It
was the same when I played, like they have to.
If you want to win, you gotta change. You have
to do something different to attain something that you've never

(58:00):
had before. And if I'm the head coach coming in there,
first ordered business. We got to get a fast our quarterback.
I don't care what it costs. I agree. We got
to get a fast our quarterback. And from there, now
you get the kids that want to come in. Whoa, whoa,
whoa who's want to be a state? Right. Certainly, suddenly
the White House that much more appilling. Suddenly that traditional
blue and white jersey looks a little better when you
got a guy coming in and you know it's gonna

(58:21):
throw that pill twenty seven times a game.

Speaker 1 (58:24):
So that's a little So obviously Penn State has been fraudulent.
We talked about Texas, although than they just upset Oklahoma.
Materials good enough to beat the hell out of Michigan
at the beginning of the year.

Speaker 2 (58:36):
Yeah, okay, yeah, I mean win that champions.

Speaker 1 (58:39):
No, no, no, you didn't, but you said didn't win double
digit games. The other thing is their quarterback was in
the conversation for the Heisman to Oklahoma was good. I'm
not saying they're a top ten team, but I think
they're a good to god win. Yeah, it was a
good win. I mean for a team that was or
a program that was spiraling a little bit with a
lot of question marks and legitimate question marks about their coach,
about their quarterbacking about a lot of things, then for

(59:02):
them to win that game surprised me.

Speaker 2 (59:04):
Anyway, I gotta give I gotta give Sark some credit.

Speaker 1 (59:07):
A little bit. Yeah, he deserves something.

Speaker 2 (59:08):
Not for what he didn't field. Sark, he he'll kicked
his coverage. Oh I didn't see yeall kicked this coverage.
He's married to, uh married to assisted that it was
a model. She's she's very elite. So my kudos to
uh Steve because.

Speaker 1 (59:23):
He's not because he's not a model.

Speaker 2 (59:24):
He lost some weight. Man, you give it the right
woman to make you do that. My woman noticed that
she pointed out, dripped. She's dripped like when she goes
out like she's legit model the whole nine yards she's show.
I'm like, this, ain't Sark's wife. Ain't no way.

Speaker 1 (59:39):
Have you seen Jake Lazers.

Speaker 5 (59:41):
Yeah okay, so you're telling me that he would have won?

Speaker 2 (59:44):
Uh wo weard sports is I'll kick your coverage like
she's elite, like from fashion to style to the look,
she's beautiful like cool.

Speaker 1 (59:55):
You know what good for you? Sark? Well, you and
I both kicked out kicked our coverage too. They other
thing is speaking of fraudulent Brian Callahan. Not that he
was fraudulent per se, but he was pink slipped by
Tennessee after just one and a half seasons. Yeah, okay,
not much. It is insane, isn't it. I Mean that's
a really it's a very unique situation there where you

(01:00:18):
give him one year. My argument is this, it's got
to be more than wins and losses. It has to
be it's got to be something along the lines of it.
I know, people hate the word. It's got to be
a culture. It's got to be a relationship that's gone
sour with a really important player. Cambord, I don't I
don't feel out major philosophy.

Speaker 2 (01:00:38):
Yeah, this goes to why coaches take their time and
they picked the right decision. Now, it doesn't work in
the case of Ben Johnson because he passed on the
commander's job and the commander's had Jaydon Dais, so that
could have worked out for him. But you gotta take
your time, even though it's only thirty two of these
talking about jobs, and you take forever to get it.
You want to, you want to. It's understand as a

(01:01:00):
head coach job, I took forever. I paid my dues.
They're offering me this, I'm gonna take this job. This
is where I wanted to be. All that sounds good.
If you're potentially gonna get a job that year, you
were potentially gonna get a job the following year two
when you take over the Tennessee Titans. What was the
conversation last year? Who were drafting quarterback? Like Will Levis?
Like what you should? Who are you guys thinking about

(01:01:21):
drafting a quarterback before you hire me? Like, like, what
is your thought for us? Because if you're taking Will Levis,
I don't want to be a head coach.

Speaker 1 (01:01:27):
Well, well, Will Levis was there before Brian Kell.

Speaker 2 (01:01:30):
Well, that Will Levis is the heck was the quarterback?
Probably he was the quarterback when you took over. Then
what's the conversation.

Speaker 1 (01:01:36):
Yeah, and Jayden Daniels actually came after they after Ben
Johnson would have been named head coach, so he didn't
know he was getting Jayden Daniels probably had a pretty
good idea he's gonna get somebody who's gonna be an
impactful player.

Speaker 2 (01:01:48):
I just say I look at situations and if you
look at the Tennessee Titans, what have the Tennessee Titans
been even when Rabel was there and they were getting
they got to the FC, they had the FC championship,
they have the number one see it was r ain't
Tawny Hill that quarterback? Like they had Dereck Henry in
a really good defense and that defense is gone. So
I would have looked at that Titan situation and been like,

(01:02:09):
I don't know if this is the job for me,
but you could miss out on an opportunity and maybe
it doesn't come like that next year. But I would
have took the ten Zee Titan's job. And you know,
I love the Oilers, do you.

Speaker 1 (01:02:21):
Think there are other jobs that might become available, because
I would have guessed Mike McDaniel would have lost his
job before any other football coach in the NFL. Do
you think there are others that might be opening up
anytime soon?

Speaker 2 (01:02:33):
Mike McDaniel definitely is about of there. You see what's
going on with him and Tour at the microphone and
the podium, both of them placed in blame and saying
what was done and what wasn't done? That is a
bleach show. Miami's a bleach show because this seems very
early familiar to a head coach arguing with the owners
or just not looking good. So Mike McDaniels would be
a body as soon. Where are there some other situations

(01:02:55):
that have extended?

Speaker 1 (01:02:56):
Who else is fraud?

Speaker 2 (01:02:58):
Who Carroll may not make get through the year? Like,
if we're being honest, Pee Carroll seventy four years old,
we know why he was born in. He was born
in to provide you know that stability?

Speaker 1 (01:03:08):
And you like I do.

Speaker 2 (01:03:10):
I love Pete, I love Pete, but I also see
what I see. You got a bad quarterback's now getting exposed.
You've got some injuries that are doing you no favors,
and it just looks like, even though it may not
be the case, he's like a little overwhelmed. There's a
lot going on out there.

Speaker 1 (01:03:25):
He doesn't have as much talent as your thought. I know, gent,
he took a little time to get ready.

Speaker 2 (01:03:30):
First game of the year kind of tricked people, right.

Speaker 1 (01:03:32):
Bowers was hurt last week. They still have a lot
of the same flaws.

Speaker 2 (01:03:37):
He'll he'll be fired at the end of the season.
They may give him courtesy, let them go to the
end of the season, but he won't make it to
year two.

Speaker 6 (01:03:46):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (01:03:47):
I don't think he's making it the year two kelling
Keller Moore with somebody, I give some time. They're still
trying to figure out the quarterback situation down there around
this league. Our leaks, our leaks.

Speaker 1 (01:03:58):
The one that's surprised, this is me, I think, is
you know the fact we expected Cleveland to be one
in five, Baltimore is one in five, and you said
they were dead two weeks ago. To me, you said
they're done. I said, come on, man, I mean that
that division is still wide open. I mean Pittsburgh has
been a stunner at four and one, and let's face it,
the reason they've been a stunner is because Aaron Rodgers.

(01:04:19):
Don't say Mike Tomlin. Mike Tomlin's proven himself. I know
he hasn't won in the playoffs in eight years, but
time and time again, Mike Tomlin has proven himself to
be a good enough coach to at least challenge for
a division title. There. Aaron Rodgers is the big surprise,
you know, the comeback player of the year right now.

Speaker 2 (01:04:34):
Harball Harbor, Jim Harborugh. I see John Harbor is a
little fraud and I've always thought he was. Why did you?
Why have you thought that? Because he has never seem
like that good of a coach. So then I based
it on seam like and I played against him when
I was saying division the whole nine yards. But then
I started doing more research and like, if I'm going

(01:04:55):
to say something, let me see what it looks like.
He inherits the team, and oh wait, they go to
the playoffs every year from then till twenty thirteen, they
win the Super Bowl. Blah blah blah. Then slowly but surely,
guys start retiring like Terrell Sucks, Guys like Ed Reed,
guys like Ray Lewis all three, by the way, defensive
player of the years. Now what will help John Harbaugh

(01:05:16):
is Ozzie Newson was still that's still drafting players for him.
Now that helps. After they retire, he goes.

Speaker 1 (01:05:25):
To Eric Takast job there he does.

Speaker 2 (01:05:28):
He went to eight and eight, five and eleven, eight
and eight, nine and seven in sirt Lamar Jackson. Okay,
in Sir Lamar Jackson ten and six, it's fourteen and two,
eleven and five, eight and nine, ten and seven, thirteen
and four, twelve and five, now one and five. I
say this to say this, all those air reads, all
those superstars like kind of players, they retired. He lost

(01:05:50):
in identity. Eventually, eventually the identity wore off. The players
that played with Ray or played with Ed. They slowly
but surely they were gone. They were no more team
struggle and it looked bad. In sirt Lamar Jackson, who's
been a two time MVP, they've done well by him.
Defense hasn't necessarily been the same. They've had some really

(01:06:10):
good players, hasn't necessarily been what it.

Speaker 1 (01:06:12):
Used to be.

Speaker 2 (01:06:13):
They've stayed in the game, but what have they done
in the playoffs?

Speaker 1 (01:06:17):
So that bigs this question why is it that the
success under John Harball early was due to the players.

Speaker 2 (01:06:27):
Because and then he was always in culture. They always
were ten and sixteen. It was just about them closing
the door, if you will.

Speaker 1 (01:06:34):
Yeah, But I mean those players obviously gone in two
thousand and four when they won thirteen games. The next
year when they won twelve, you said, insert Lamar Jackson.
So Lamar Jackson gets credit for the victories, ed Reid
ray Lewis, those guys get credit for the victories as well,
But when it comes to the losses, it falls on
John Harball.

Speaker 2 (01:06:55):
Why do we differentiate This doesn't just fall on John
Harball because I'm also said the one last year, Lamar's
action in that game through two interceptions, he fumbled the
ball as well. That falls on him as well as
Mark Andrews who dropped, who had a fumble and had
a major drop at the end of the game. So
that falls on them as well. It does. It does.
But I'm just saying for me watching John Harball, like

(01:07:15):
he's been there the longest, He's the one that's been
doing the same exact thing with no success except the
magic year, and you get credit for whin the Super Bowl. Yeah,
for sure. He deserves that, regardless of who was playing them.

Speaker 1 (01:07:26):
Where is so this is a guy who finished number
one in the division six times? Yeah, eleven times, he's
won ten games or more, but he's only thirteen and
eleven in his playoff career. Where's the fraudulent aspect of necessary?

Speaker 2 (01:07:42):
Fraudulent is more of a fun word, but I believe
he gets He gets a lot of credit for what
he maybe deserves a little less than four. Like, when
you have some of the greatest players of all time
playing on the same team consistently, you're gonna win ten games,
and that's what happened. I would hope so, and eventually
figured it out. He won the Super Bowl. They had
one of the best Super Bowl runs ever. Like what

(01:08:03):
they had to do to get to that Super Bowl win,
I give them kudos. It was a fun playoff series
to watch. Joe Flacco, he got hight the right time
because the brother got paid and technically is still getting
paid as a Cincinnati Bengals. He gave a great response
to when he asked him why is he still playing?
He was like, I put so much into this and
I still can play. He said, like, you only get

(01:08:23):
to do this once he said, when I retire, I'm like, well,
when I retired for the last time, when I'm fifty
years old and I'm looking back, I want to be
able to say I maximize all my experiences. Like I
was listening to his interview and asking myself, did I
maximize my ability my career? Was there more left in
the tank? And I left a little bit earlier. But
that's how good the response was because it even made

(01:08:44):
me think about it. But yeah, they're still paying.

Speaker 1 (01:08:47):
You can relate to what he's talking about for sure.

Speaker 2 (01:08:50):
Yeah, he hasn't had he hasn't had any real major injuries.
So him operating this long age, long in the tooth,
he's got grays and all the white flagos ever had
major injuries. So even though it's year I think he
was drafting seven eight, So even though it's eighteen years,
it's not a major knee injury inaire, it's not major

(01:09:10):
shoulder injurioneires, no elbow stuff in there, it's nothing like that.
So as long as he wants to go, it's kind
of like Brett Fire.

Speaker 1 (01:09:18):
Yeah, I say this all the time. To play, I mean,
play as long as you can if you're still productive.
Why not. We were just talking about Vince Carter a
little bit ago. If that dude can still get it done.
And you guys set the highest standard for yourself, the
really good players, they all set a really high standard
for themselves, so if they don't reach it, it's really
frustrating for them. So I totally understand it. When we

(01:09:39):
come back speaking of high standards, Trek Scuoble has him.
The Tigers fans have them for him as well. Get
Brelan's thoughts on Trek Schooble, knowing full well that this
will dominate the sports conversation in this town and in
this state and perhaps in that sport the entire offseason
that's coming up. But first quick thought from Less Stanford

mine who used to own a dealership he's retired now
over the weekend and we were talking about the different
deals that are going on the expensive cars, and then
I told them about what less Stanford's doing. He's like,
those are some unreal opportunities out there, like the Hummer
ev SUT five ninety nine to lease it plus tax.

(01:10:22):
You can't beat that. The lyric suvc's Leaf Special three
or four to eighty nine a month plus tax, and
then of course you got the equinex EV. My daughter
has one of those two twenty nine a month plus tax.
If those cars don't move your needle, they will have
something for you because their inventory is immense. It's less

Speaker 2 (01:13:42):
Look for dinner plans at Sizzle hit the black Rock
Barn Grill, home of the Steak on the Stone. We've
been talking about it all day. You heard shep you
are a kool aid. You heard Ryan, Now hear me.
This is the place for you. The deals of hots,
but they won't last long. Staking lobster nineteen ninety nine.
It's a hell of a deal. Or why don't you
try Braylan's. That's right, twenty ounces New York strip. It

(01:14:03):
is the steak for you, same price point nineteen ninety nine,
and fish and chips. They also are in bad fourteen
ninety nine. I'm telling you, man, this is the spot.
But let's try this again because the Lions didn't win
last week's No free advertised for view, no free advertised
for me, But we will try this again. Monday night,
the Detroit Lions will take dun number one team in

(01:14:23):
the NFL, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I've got this thing
going on with them once a year here, but guess what,
they beat them. You get appetised on Tuesday. So let's
put our fingers together for the Detroit Lions. But in
the meantime, Black Rockets still open and they're waiting for you.

Speaker 1 (01:14:38):
You know, we were talking with Jeff about that. I said,
how can you sell such a good steak and an
excellent lobster for only nineteen ninety nine. He says, you
know what, it's about the people's experience that'll keep them
coming back.

Speaker 2 (01:14:51):
I'm so glad they took over.

Speaker 1 (01:14:52):
And they they they are doing it right, just like
Lady Jeans does it right. It's the people's experience.

Speaker 2 (01:14:58):
You know.

Speaker 1 (01:14:58):
I'm looking across, I'm looking at Justin, I'm looking at Spenny,
and my immediate thought is, Man, those guys need a haircut.
It would be great, Jeans. If you go right to
Lady Jans right behind him, all they have to do
is sign in. The next thing they know, they're in
the chair. They might fall asleep because the shampoo is
just so smooth and easy and well done. But soon

(01:15:19):
they'll bounce back, they'll get their hair cut, and they
will look more than presentable. Right here for you on
Woodward Sports, Lady Jeans, it is wicked awesome. We bet
all right, let's get to some super chats and anything
else that kool Aid has noted before we get to well,
the topic that I'll guarantee it won't be the last

(01:15:39):
time we talk about it, but it is something that
I think people are really nervous about in the city
of Detroit and the state of Michigan. It's Trek Schooble
and where we go from here. But first let's get
to some super chats kool Aid fire Away.

Speaker 5 (01:15:53):
Hey, yeah, definitely, you know what Fronto in the chat
one ninety nine, he just sends in fight on and
Michael Werry are in the chat five dollars super chat. Yeah,
he says, Bray, what do you believe what happened to
Mike McDaniel in Miami? It looked like the worst team
in the NFL this year.

Speaker 2 (01:16:13):
Now hear me out about this, and this is funny.
He talked about James Franklin getting another job because he
will think about that. You gotta know what you're getting
with James Franklin. If you bring him on right now,
don't be mad if he doesn't win the big game.
Getting to Mike McDaniel, I wouldn't hire him. Just how
the situation looks for Miami. And I understand Miami's had
bad situations before, but he just looks disheveled. It looks

(01:16:34):
like he's overwhelmed. It looks like an individual that can't
handle this situation. And now you got your star quarterback
calling individuals out. I want to see how that goes further,
he won't. He won't finish the job here in Miami.
But I don't know if he'll get another head job,
Like he just doesn't seem like the temperament for a
head coaching job.

Speaker 1 (01:16:53):
Yeah, I don't think he'll get another head coaching job,
but I do for sure. But I do believe he'd
be an offensive.

Speaker 2 (01:17:00):
He deserves it, And a lot of times you see individuals
they have to go back to the coordinator space because
it's a more comfortable space for them. They take their chance.
It does what Josh McDaniels. I mean, he's done it twice. Now.

Speaker 1 (01:17:10):
I was just gonna say, if Josh McDaniels can get
hired twice, maybe Mike Daniel can, which tells you that's ridiculous.
But as a guy who is the offensive coordinator at
San Francisco, he was part of the Falcons, the Browns,
the Commanders, the Texans, I believe then he's got plenty

(01:17:30):
of connections. He would be an asset to somebody's offensive system.
He is very he's very quirky, all right. He looks
very nervous at the podium. What doesn't help his situation
is when his quarterback comes out and basically says this
team lacks leadership, and it starts at the top. And

(01:17:54):
for him to come out and publicly say after another
loss and I always thought he was a good leader
at Alabama with tongue of Blowa coming out and saying, look,
guys are late for players only meetings. Guys are late
for meetings, and it's a standard that has been set
and it's been It starts at the top. He is
throwing every coach and his front office under the bus.

(01:18:15):
And I don't understand why he did that.

Speaker 2 (01:18:17):
You know what else he's throwing. He's throwing interceptions, including
three of them, and he threw one at the end
cast them the game. But he didn't talk about that.
But he didn't get up to the podium and say, so,
I gotta be better. I'm throwing interceptions. I'm out here
looking like ass. He didn't say that. He got up
at the podium, and what he talked about was everybody
missing the meetings that he attends. He talks about, Oh,
this guy's missing that, or we having guys do that,
and leadership starts at the top, alluding to Miami Dam's

(01:18:39):
TUA what are you doing because I greet you one
nred percent. And it can be true. I've been in
these situations where some guys skip of meeting or things
of that nature. But it's not the quarterbacks job to
come up here after loss which you didn't play bad,
and you start to spew all this, and you know
what you're pointing to deflect from the game you just had.
You see this when you see this, when companies are

(01:19:00):
about to go bottoms up, you see to put in
the individuals that are trying to make sure this spot
is still good. Hey, it wasn't me. I'm always at
my cubicle. I'm always doing I'm supposed to doing. You
better check those guys over there. Hey, in fact, my
boss he's not doing his job. Why don't you go
look at him? Because they know that here it comes.
The wrath is coming, and everybody's about to get moved.
That's what this is. And I don't like that.

Speaker 1 (01:19:22):
I don't like it.

Speaker 2 (01:19:24):
I've never had that feeling about Tour. I may not
like some things within the mechanics of his game. I
never had a conversation like that. This is different. I'm
not a fan of this.

Speaker 1 (01:19:33):
Praise in public, criticizing private, and you better be careful
when you start slinging arrows and throwing rocks and glasshouses,
because he's got plenty to work on. And if I'm
a player, I sure don't like the fact that he is.
Even if I'm going to those meetings. You're throwing my teammates,
You're throwing other people under the bus, and it's just
not professional. And you sure don't do it in a

(01:19:55):
media setting like that after a loss. Like you said, so,
it's a really good p but we appreciate the super
chat more super chats.

Speaker 5 (01:20:03):
They're cold, Oh yeah, definitely, definitely the people some good ones.
And I Dante one five one number two in the
chat today with the Crown Fournity nine super Chat says
Arizona Cardinals head coach might be out out for the
Cardinals keep losing.

Speaker 2 (01:20:19):
No, he's gone. Like I said that I said at
the beginning. Yeah, I'm actually glad he reminded me Gann's
out of there. And the injuries, yeah, are part of it.
But one, the Bill Wells don't give anybody that long.
And then two when you watch it, it just it
does the same.

Speaker 1 (01:20:35):
Doesn't look like there's much synchronicity that doesn't.

Speaker 2 (01:20:38):
It did for a brief moment last year Ship it
seemed like this team was fighting for him, seemed like
they liked what he was saying. But now I go
back remember the infamous of the video of him in
the team meetingroom that went viral, and he was giving
the speech and it just looked all types of wacky,
and it looked like nobody was into it. You're like,
what is going on? How does this guy to keep

(01:20:58):
a job? Well, he won't, I won very much long,
But more.

Speaker 1 (01:21:01):
Importantly, excuse me, how do these guys get a job?

Speaker 2 (01:21:04):
That's what I mean, not keep on? How do you
get in? Well, it's the good old boys club? I know?

Speaker 1 (01:21:08):
But where is the the good old boys club has
always been? It's the guy who has had a job before,
has a relationship, and and all this other stuff we look.
We see it in sports all the time. That's fine.
I don't have an issue with that. I want to
know how in a conference room that you're sitting down
and I'm looking at at spending right now and we

(01:21:29):
welcome Mike come on in and he's wearing his you know,
short pants, which is fine, I guess, how does he
answer the questions so enthusiastically to convince you that this
is my guy. When he's facing the media after their
most recent loss and literally looks like he's stumbling to
find words in an offense or a football verbiage, that

(01:21:54):
he has no idea of what it is. He sounds lost.

Speaker 2 (01:21:57):
Because individuals aren't bating the process, aren't vaguing the process.
You have a bunch of these new owners and collective
groups and where they don't know what they don't know
what they're asking for, and a lot of times you
have individuals in there helping them pick and they don't
know what the hell they're doing either. Back in the day,
you had a vetted process of an offensive coordinator who
had been there for so long you knew who the
hell he was, or defensive coordinator. This is gonna be

(01:22:18):
my guy. He knows how to interview because he's in
the dope, so he's writing for this interview process and
he knocks it out apart and he gets the job. Nowadays,
you legitimately have an offensive coordinator be there for a
year and now he's gone, and now you're promoting a
wide receivers couach or or you're a reported or you
are promoting a quality control guy or a wide receiver's
assistant to and they're getting spots faster and faster, and

(01:22:42):
just because you think they were there. Not everybody's Kevin O'Connell.

Speaker 7 (01:22:45):
No.

Speaker 1 (01:22:46):
I gotta tell you, if I were an athletic director
or the owner of a franchise, I would have a
relationship with certain veterans within my organization. Let's say it's
Brailin Edwards and I would and tell them, hey, listen,
I want your opinion. If you're willing to share it,
I'll fly you in, put you up in a hotel.

(01:23:06):
You're not gonna get paid for this, but I want
you to be part of the vetting process. I want
you to ask the questions an athlete should be asking.
And it's a big reason why I think Detroit struggles.

Speaker 2 (01:23:17):
That's how you get Dan Campbell.

Speaker 1 (01:23:18):
That's how you get Dan Campbell because Chris Spielman was
a big part of He doesn't get enough credit for that.
You bring in the look. These guys are real. You
can say what you want about you know, analytic people,
but the players are the ones who have to play
for these guys. And why I don't understand why they
don't get it. Bring everyone feels like, oh my god,
my job is threatened. I'm supposed to be able to

(01:23:38):
I'm the adult in the room, and I'm supposed to
be able to make the decision. Why can't you just say,
you know what, I didn't play he did. Bring him
in and let him ask him a few questions and
take some notes, observe a little bit, give him situational
scenarios that would force me to say, I, well, this

(01:23:59):
is how i'd hand and then we can talk about
it privately as we, you know, eat some black rocks shaking.

Speaker 2 (01:24:05):
Because we don't want to depend on these players for anything,
and we don't want to feel like we owe them anything.
Once their job is done. Their job is done. And
that's what a lot of organizations operate by. Once the
job is done is done. I don't need I don't
need to ask Brailan what he thinks and he comes in.
That's just kind of how it is like nowadays, it's
let me get somebody that coached under Kyle Shanahan. Let
me get somebody that coached under Sean McVay. Let me

(01:24:27):
get one. I don't care did he coach under Kyle Shanahan.
He did. Okay, cool, bring him in for an interview.
Let's see what he's got. Don't care that he's a
wide receivers coach. Let's make him offensive coordinator. Don't care
that he was an offensive coordinator for Kyle Shanahan. Meanwhile,
Kyle Shanahan was the one still figuring out you know what, cool,
just bring up, We'll trust it. That's kind of where
it is now. We need to get us a guy

(01:24:49):
that's one of the guys. Not everybody can get lucky
like the Lions and get it Ben Johnson. Everybody's it's
somebody under the McVeigh tree, which he's under Kyle Shannan.
So it's the Kyle Shanahan try.

Speaker 1 (01:24:59):
Yeah, and we're for promoting from work. I mean, Kelvin
Sheppard deserved it, right. John Morton passing coordinator comes over.
That's not what you're saying. What I'm saying when you
go into that. If we're thinking about a list of
a candidates, and I would say this at the collegiate
level too. I don't know how many you bring in,
but bringing some guys who've been around a lot of
the guys they don't deserve too because they're out of it,

(01:25:20):
like they're done with football. I don't want to deal
with football anymore. I'm moving on. But some people are
still involved in it. Some people still talk to those
coaches and players, and they have those relationships that they've
cultivated for an extended period of time. I think those guys,
I think their opinions are valuable.

Speaker 5 (01:25:35):
And you guys are dropping some heat, especially with the
involvement of the former players.

Speaker 2 (01:25:38):
Get my guy Brave more involved too.

Speaker 5 (01:25:40):
But when you talk about Chris Spilman, I wonder, if
you talk about a former player, what all most former
players say, Dan gets it. I wonder if I would
play office people the normal for office people, if they
would have just said, okay, we'd like the spirit Dan.
But Spilman being in that room was probably like, I
know we're still looking for a GM, but I'm telling
you I would run through a brick wall for that exactly.

Speaker 1 (01:26:02):
I'll tell you what. We were doing a production meeting
once with a former Lions coach who's still in the
league as a defensive coordinator. He is pretty good, and
the player I was doing the games with played in
the NFL. And asked the guy a question and the
guy was This coach was just basically dismissed him. And

(01:26:23):
he leaves the room and the guy looks at me.
He goes, that guy's a blanking blank hole. I would
never play for him. He leaves. New coach comes in,
who had great success in a different organization, was one
of the best men you'll ever meet. Players would follow him.
Was in Indianapolis and came here, had the same scenario,

(01:26:44):
ask some questions. He gets up, leaves, The guy looks
at me, he goes, I'd run through a freaking wall
for that guy. Okay, he noticed some different things about
those guys because he played, and he was right about
both of them. By the way, get about a thousand,
but he was right about both of them because players
can see through the bull crap that a lot of

(01:27:06):
us can't. No, I'm serious, man. They there's a sense
that they get because they've dealt with it their entire lives.
They've been lied to, and they've also been entrusted with
somebody too. So I think it's a really important part.
So thanks for the thanks for the super chat.

Speaker 5 (01:27:20):
Anything else one more, I think it is a really
good one. Shout out it, says Inkster to La. Shout
out to inst Ma La for six years.

Speaker 2 (01:27:26):
She's in La right where he This person's in La.

Speaker 5 (01:27:28):
Probably in La now a little bit different scenery, but
he said so. And that's why I wanted to make
sure we asked us one to soul. Should a g.
Aaron Glenn have waited with the New York Jets.

Speaker 1 (01:27:39):
That's a really good question. Yeah, because because Brealan is like,
you know, why why are you doing it?

Speaker 2 (01:27:44):
Listen?

Speaker 1 (01:27:44):
There are certain places you want to jump to.

Speaker 2 (01:27:46):
That is that that is very fair and I set
myself up for that. So let me take my New
York Jet situation out of the equation ag played for
the Jets too. Uh he did, all right, here we
go answer. The answer is no, like the Jets aren't
a job that I would taken because the Jets have

(01:28:06):
been dumb, because the Jets have been a dumpers fires
since and even even that year, even in the two
thousand and nine twenty ten like the Jets really capture
lightning in the bottle. It's a great job by Tanebomb.
At the time, the moves they made, they kind of
went all in and they had a really good foundation
there with some draft picks. Nick Mano to Bricker Show, Ferguson,
Daryl Reeves. Obviously we know what that worked out to be.

(01:28:28):
So they great foundation and we captured some free agencies,
free agent players that we bought in. But since then
the Jets have been with the Jets are and they
owned by the same individual that I love the Jets.
I don't love everything about the Jets, and I'll just
say that, So no I would have taken a job
because whether it's Adam Gase, whether it's Adam Gase, whether
it's Robert Sala, whether it's Aaron Glenn, whether it's whoever

(01:28:51):
the hell was before, oh Tod Bowles, they didn't give
a chance to you know, and then they fire RECs
as well. It has looked the exact same because it's
misinformation individuals like they're not sharing the information all the
way around. It's the owners pass some information to the
GM who's not getting the information to the head coach.

Speaker 1 (01:29:10):
But how do they not see that? I mean, these
are Aaron Glenn played what thirteen fourteen years of the
National Football League. He experienced what it's like to play
for a really good organization in the Detroit Lions. I
know that sounds funny to hear, but it's true. All
that knowledge that he had as a player, as an
assistant coach, as a defensive coordinator, as a successful man

(01:29:32):
both playing and coaching. How do you walk into that
situation and not recognize those glaring omissions that you just
brought up so.

Speaker 2 (01:29:40):
Many they can make the change.

Speaker 1 (01:29:42):
They could be the difference they want to believe.

Speaker 2 (01:29:44):
As well as Aaron Glenn just saw the same situation
in Detroit. So maybe he's trying to give the New
York Jets the benefit of doubt. Maybe Woody Johnson and
his team are saying the right things because they finally
want to get it right and they bought him in.
Like at the end of the day, there are only
thirty two of these and it's not always going to be.
That's true, Aaron Glen. Look, not only is it a

(01:30:04):
job there, it happens to be the place that I
used to hang my hat where I was our pro
So if I can't figure it out here, then maybe
it's just not in the cars right now. But that's
how you make the movie.

Speaker 1 (01:30:14):
You're right, Owen six the only winless team in the
National Football League. It's surprising, but when you see players
like Garrett Wilson getting really frustrated in front of his
coach asking why he's not using the time out to
go for it.

Speaker 6 (01:30:29):
Yah.

Speaker 1 (01:30:30):
Yeah, it leads. It leads to a lot of speculation.

Speaker 2 (01:30:33):
I also feel bad for them because they're legitimately going
to have the number one pick overall. Correct, Who the hell?
And they drafting their quarterback this upcoming year, Like, legitimately
they will be the number one pick.

Speaker 1 (01:30:44):
And this is what Mendoza kid out of Indiana.

Speaker 4 (01:30:48):
I have no idea, but this is like, this is
this is the bad look at the Jets because there
there isn't a Jayde Daniels or and I know it's
early is always in the point, but there is.

Speaker 2 (01:30:59):
No Caleb Williams. If you want to say that Drake
may or Jaydon Daniels or who is this your cam Ward?
There isn't that in this draft. This draft is legitimately
the leftovers of the last couple of years of N
I L and transfer portal and blah blah blah. Were
you're taking.

Speaker 1 (01:31:14):
Yeah, it's it's an excellent point.

Speaker 2 (01:31:17):
Yeah, like you need a quarterback. You can't even get
a quarterback in his draft. You may have to take
another defensive player or offensive lineman just because.

Speaker 1 (01:31:26):
Yeah, I mean, look, just because you need a quarterback,
as you and I have talked about before, just because
you need a quarterback doesn't mean that you draft a quarterback.
That's how you get in trouble, that's why you become
the Jets.

Speaker 2 (01:31:39):
Very true, but just saying like usually when you get
the number one pick, this is a chance to start
the franchise. There's not even that player there. Who is it?
What players there in the league?

Speaker 1 (01:31:50):
Yeah, well remember they did that years ago, Zach Wilson. Yeah,
and they screwed up and the kid had an unbelievable
army at b YU, but he really wasn't good. Would
it be Fernando Mendoz of Indiana? Would it be who's
the kid of South Carolina? Leonora Sellers? Who are these
Could it be Dante More of Oregon, the Troy kid.

Speaker 2 (01:32:10):
I know him.

Speaker 1 (01:32:11):
I'm just no, I'm just bringing up names.

Speaker 2 (01:32:14):
No, no, no, I know that, But I'm like my response
is more of a sarcastic one to the conversation, like
who are these people?

Speaker 6 (01:32:20):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:32:21):
If they drafted Caleb Downs, the safety out of Ohio State,
who's a really good player? And might be arguably the
best player in America arguably. How much is that moving
that needle in New York? Probably not much because they'll
still be screaming we don't have the trigger that we need.

Speaker 2 (01:32:38):
And then it's like not one of the situations where
it's like a Matt Stafford or even though that didn't
work out, Matt's Russell Wilson like, who's that? What's that
situation to where you go give money and you Trey
picks to get that quarterback?

Speaker 1 (01:32:50):
Aaron Rodgers, Right, you're right.

Speaker 2 (01:32:53):
They so that.

Speaker 1 (01:32:54):
That is really brutal. All Right, we'll get to the
mail bag when we come back, and maybe if we
have a moment to talk about the Tyrek school thing,
even though not that there's any news there, there isn't,
but I do want Braylan's thoughts on it when we
come back on the Brailan Edwards Show on Woodward Sports.

Speaker 2 (01:33:07):
After this man, sorry Lass Terry school game.

Speaker 1 (01:33:12):
Garrett Neusmeyer, Yeah, those are some goods. Are you talking
about the massage?

Speaker 2 (01:33:19):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:33:20):
Yeah, I mean we're just talking off off microphone here
and you're you're sitting here going yeah, I didn't know
what you were going.

Speaker 2 (01:33:26):
Is Spencer Ratlers. No, he's not him either.

Speaker 2 (01:36:37):
Bet how good of a quarterbacks is? Like Josh Allen,
look now, like like what is it? Let me not
phrase it that way, because I feel like that's a
little that's terrible. Like when things don't go well for
the Buffalo, like he.

Speaker 1 (01:36:51):
Doesn't look good, agreed, like things good last.

Speaker 2 (01:36:55):
Night, Like when things don't go well for Patrick Mahomes
like outside him being annoying, like he's still like he
still can find you some players to where you're still
like like even in this horrible game, Yeah, all right,
you're still Patrick Mahomes Like if it's not going all
the way right for Josh Allen, it looks more like
yesterday than it does not. And this goes back to
when I said they have to find a number one

(01:37:16):
wide receiver, Like it's it's it's all well and good,
and until you get put in a situation where you
got guys that can't get open. Kean Coleman for for
much as I love his athletic ability and some of
his talent, he's not a number one wide receiver right.
In fact, he's a two masquerading as one. Kali is
not a two. He is a three. He happens to

(01:37:38):
be extremely gifted yards after catch. It's some athleticism to him.
He's hard to bring down. Here's a three.

Speaker 1 (01:37:44):
You know what it reminds me of. It reminds me
of green Back. Yeah, like you got a three two
like you're relying on your quarterback and those guys so
much better. Right. That offensive line struggled last night against
that pressure from Atlanta, and it showed it. And it
just goes to prove you. And I know we saw
the numbers from the Sunday night game, Jared Goff under pressure,
so on and so forth if you watched any of

(01:38:05):
the pregame. But Josh Allen was under a lot of
pressure last night. Jaden Daniels is under some pressure. Okay,
it was it was wet too. That didn't help. But
there's a lot of quarterbacks who struggle wh they're under pressure,
all right, And I don't mean pressure under the big lights,
and because it's an NFL game, I mean with big
guys with bad breath breathing on you. That's what I'm

(01:38:26):
talking about.

Speaker 2 (01:38:27):
And it's funny because watching that game, you not realize
who the most important receiver for that team is. He
didn't play last.

Speaker 6 (01:38:33):
Night, k K k K.

Speaker 1 (01:38:37):
They actually have three good tight ends, true.

Speaker 2 (01:38:39):
Dalton Knox as well and then Palmer who got injured
as well, and he got injured too, But like King,
k's the guy he's six k six catches a night,
and that gets him into the rhythm. I wish he
would have been here Friday. One of the biggest things
I said, kool A, didn't I say, punk Travis Kelsey,
Yes he did. I said, started a game. You get
two d I said, defens two defenders on, you get

(01:39:02):
a linebacker Derek Burrows Alex ads alone. You press him
at the line of screamers, and then you play over
time with whenever he didn't complete plasses who was checking him?
It was thirty two. But you didn't want to do that.
You didn't want to press him. You let him get open,
you let him get comfortable, you let him make some plays.

Speaker 1 (01:39:18):
Yeah, the free release bothers the hell out of me.
With certain guys like that, not him. It drives me crazy.
Somebody in the chat said, this is Scott Harris's biggest offseason.
I don't think that is hyperbolic by any stretch. I
think you're absolutely right about that, especially since it has
to do with Trek School. But I don't think we
have time to get into that. We're three minutes shy.

(01:39:38):
I want to make sure we get the mail bag.
We will address that tomorrow with Breilan Edwards. I want
to get his thoughts on it. I think it's really important.

Speaker 5 (01:39:45):
Go ahead, Yeah, And I was gonna say we definitely
Breiden's breakdown is the best thing. But I think we
need to have little channels on that Brendan's breakdown network,
like maybe Braylan's wide receiver room, because you're talking about
wide receivers is electric, straight up, bro.

Speaker 2 (01:39:58):
All right, I appreciate that man's it kind of comes
kind of naturally. Something gonna say, I might played.

Speaker 5 (01:40:05):
Look, we had this poll on allso and early on
Golf's touchdown ketch versus the Chiefs was leading. It's which
rough job was worse as it relates for the Lions
the Skipper report of versus Cowboys or golf touchdown versus
the Chiefs. It's been pretty dead locked. Right now, it's
fifty one percent Golf touchdown versus Chiefs. Maybe it's a
you know, the recency.

Speaker 1 (01:40:25):
Is Yeah, I think so. I think it's because if
it's fresh in our minds.

Speaker 2 (01:40:28):
Okay, which one is? You think it's still most agreeable?

Speaker 1 (01:40:32):
Well, the reason Skipper because it's I didn't know the
rule about Jared Goff and apparently the team didn't. I
think Dan Skipper did exactly what he's supposed to do.
He did report. In fact, he and Taylor Decker were
talking to the referee at the same time. Yeah, that
was so tough. That's why I think it's more egregious.

(01:40:53):
Both took touchdowns off the board, so both I feel
like he got screwed. Which is more impactful. It's a
good question.

Speaker 5 (01:41:00):
But directly led to a loss though.

Speaker 2 (01:41:04):
That's right.

Speaker 1 (01:41:04):
Yeah, whereas the Lions had a chance to do that
against Kansas City. But I'm telling you, man, when Skipper's
sitting there talking to the referee and the referee is
not even looking at him, and he's and you assume
he's saying, hey man, I'm eligible, then they don't report it.
That tells me it's a little bit more greefed. I'm
going with the Chiefs game, Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:41:21):
Cool, I think it's more grecous, and not because rec by.
I think because they let you know at the beginning
of the game it ain't happening here tonight. Like from
the start of the game, they let you know. I
actually I want him to say, no, not happening to
day Detroit. In fact, we're not even gonna blow the
whistle for them, but we're gonna blow it on y'all.
We're gonna take this playback. That's why I think it's

(01:41:42):
egregious because it set the tone. And once you look
at the end of the game and you realize zero pilloties,
zero calls, you're like, oh, they were letting us know
in the beginning of the game. It what't happened.

Speaker 1 (01:41:51):
You've been forewarned.

Speaker 2 (01:41:53):
I think I'm going with that one. It's a good one.

Speaker 1 (01:41:56):
Anything else from the mailback before we're out of here
on a Tuesday.

Speaker 5 (01:41:58):
You know, yeah, I'll clean up a few more super
chats that will definitely clean up middle aged sneaker check
number three. In the chat today find out the super chat,
she says the adult and me did not like Brian
Branch and how he reacted, but the Detroit me loves
the good old crash out. Brian Branch is a dog.
Juju should have found something safe to do one hundred.

Speaker 2 (01:42:19):
So I appreciate that. And Juju is a punk too,
because you saw him. But this is the other part
about the Juju Smith shooter thing. You see what happens.
He gets punched in the jall, he does all his faces,
the whistles, and then he runs around as Isaia pa Checo,
who knows Brian Branches holding on some cool stuff like
trying to get him away from it. He's like, not
even really trying to get at Brian Branch if he

(01:42:41):
wanted to. And then he finally gets around Isaea Pacheco
and got slammed Isea Pachecos holding one of Brian Branch's arms.
He was the other one that slams Juju Smith shooter
on the ground. He's a punk. With that being, we
can't have it. I love I'm from Detroit to you
know what I'm saying, shout out, I grew up down
the street. But we gotta we gotta tailor that in

(01:43:01):
because that can come up at the wrong time, the
wrong game, the wrong like he doing we don't know,
something has to be said. And then you get to
the point now whe're like, all right, I really got
to hold him accountable. Now you look at the long,
liundry list of penalties, of fines of things. You gotta
dial it back in because what's happening. This is my
honest opinion. You know who, you know, he's my guy

(01:43:22):
who you know he's my guy, Ryan Sheck. What's happening
is one. Safety already got paid one safety has not.
Thirteen penalties. You become a trade piece. And it's not
because they want to trades. It's not because they want
to move you.

Speaker 1 (01:43:37):
It's because of you're forcing their hands.

Speaker 2 (01:43:39):
You're forcing their hand thirteen situations. It gets to the
point where seven is cute, ten is all right, he's aggressive,
thirteen is he doesn't care.

Speaker 1 (01:43:48):
Yeah, it's out of control. Your one hundred percent rate,
and you know it's reputation based.

Speaker 2 (01:43:52):
Here's true. So like out of that some of those
are he got targeted. Understand that. But you're not year
two anymore. You're not your this is three.

Speaker 1 (01:44:01):
You're supposed to be a leader, okay, and you don't
do that stuff. Let's face it. Whether you like it
or not, whether you believe it's fair or not, people
have reputations. If I say Clayton Kershaw right away, what
do people think? They think? Not very good in the
postseason thirteen and thirteen two not good enough? Right, Well,
if that's the case, you got coaches can't win the
big one. James Franklin, we were talking about guys like

(01:44:22):
Clayton Kershaw failed to do what they're supposed to do.
In the postseason. Brian Branch's reputation is now solidified as
a dirty or combustible player at the least hold.

Speaker 2 (01:44:33):
On theydn't get Giants Franklin any credit for being SMU
at home.

Speaker 1 (01:44:37):
I'm out, so it is, Brailant. We'll see what all.
Have a day.

Speaker 6 (01:44:43):
