Speaker 2 (00:53):
I want to catch by Brailen Edwards. Some of those
are good. I mean, obviously, Brent Musburger is one of
the greatest of all time. I mean, it's really fun
to hear that coming in. We had a meeting earlier
this week and wait, what do you think of the open?
I like it. I know there's more that we could add,
but some of those we call him sound up okay,
full sound up f s OT in the TV world
(01:16):
and it's and it's pretty cool. And to hear that,
it's like, who, all right, well the bulls don't mean
don't even bring that up. I mean suddenly kool Aid
kool Aid sour. I've never seen kool Aid sour before.
You know, kol Aid is usually smiling, he's happy, he's
got a skip, he's got a little extra Oh my goodness, gracious,
he was sour last night and had every right to be.
(01:39):
Welcome everybody to the Braylin Edwards Show on this fine Thursday.
You know what thursday means, right, I'm talking about haircuts.
Knock him up, DearS, I'm talking about pray Lyn's breakdown.
That's what we're talking about. That's coming your way at
three o'clock, Doctor Jeffrey Pierce at three forty. So you
had a pretty big event yesterday, all through the rain.
You're driving the least lancing how to go man every time.
Speaker 5 (02:02):
The event the Ronald McDonald House Battle for the Houses
Michigan excuse me and our house versus the Michigan which
is Michigan State House. Toronald McDonald, the great calls great
raising money. I love the individuals that come out, They
just they love the kids. They love what it's about,
and I love when it's bigger than sport. But I
love how sports is a vehicle a lot of times
(02:23):
to drive you to these things. But it was good.
I just hate driving up to East Lansing because I
feel like it's stunner. It's not. I mean, I don't
lose up there too. So it's October, it's fall. It's beautiful,
but right around this time with Michigan's playing Michigan State,
it's a little bit more gloomy outside. You know what
(02:44):
I'm saying. There's overcast. It rained last night, much like
it rained last two years ago, and you just go
up there and it's all green, saw white. Here's that
energy I get up there, though she I always viewed
myself as a hero, like I like the herocharacters like
you know, I like Superman. I don't like Lex Luthor.
You know, I liked Hulk Hogan before I found he
(03:05):
was a bad guy. But I like Hulk Hogan in
the eighties when so your prayers the whole nine yards,
like he's the hero.
Speaker 6 (03:11):
You know.
Speaker 5 (03:11):
Sure, I've always been like the hero. I fell with
the Michigan which was the good school. It's Maze's it's blues.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
That's what you thought, That's what you were raised, right.
Speaker 5 (03:20):
You know, And I still believe that wing. But I've
always felt like I was a hero until I get
the East Lansing and I'll walk in. When you do
the event at in Michigan, it's seventy five Michigan people
for the house, seventy five people that come for the donations,
the event, the stories, and there's fifty Michigan State people.
You know, it's a good.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
ViBe's good crowd, it's pretty good balance.
Speaker 5 (03:40):
He'st Lansing. It's seventy five Michigan State and it's six Michigan.
Why is that Michigan ain't coming to East Lancing? Why
not for what?
Speaker 2 (03:48):
What do you mean for what? For the McDonald's house.
Speaker 5 (03:50):
Michigan's not coming to Eastlands, Michigan. Maybe they feel they
don't have to. Maybe that's why people don't like Michigan.
I don't know. I'm making stuff up at this time,
but it's six to set. Every time it was like
this last time. It is what it is. But I
walk into the room, check I got my Michigan letter.
Let him in on same out of the hat yesterday.
I got the hat, I got the hoodie on this
(04:11):
is Michigan. I got the sneaks, the amazing blue dunks.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
You look good.
Speaker 5 (04:15):
Appreciate that. I walk in, It's like the crowd stops.
It's like the music stuff. It's like the wrong like
the wrong person walks into the party. Yeah, everybody's looking
in there, whispering chep. They're like, oh, there he is.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
It's like me walking into a downtown bar. What's going on?
Speaker 5 (04:31):
Here?
Speaker 2 (04:31):
Was this guy?
Speaker 5 (04:32):
So I'm watching, I'm listening, and I'm like, oh, oh yeah,
they know the Boogeyman is here. So now I'm like
legitimate to El Baba yaga, you guys know John Wick.
So now I'm watching this and now I'm embracing this.
So now when we're telling stories where I'm talking cash money, like,
I'm like when they talked about.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
With Michigan, you're talking stories with Michigan State.
Speaker 5 (04:54):
To go down the line of you know, talk about
Michigan State, talk about Michigan and what drew you to
that school? What was it? You know, And they're talking
about said you can go anywhere in the country, and
you say go Green, somebody's gonna say go White. And
then the next guy comes in. He says a version
of that. Everyone around this great state knows go Green,
Go White. And I'm laughing because I'm like, oh, this
(05:15):
is gonna be perfect. They're setting me up for the
home run, setting me up for the grand slams in
the box right now, I'm waiting for my third home
run and my tempt strikeout. So they get to me
and they said, I said, you know what, First of all,
go Mike's on the other end might mark blue. I said,
that's all we need. We'll need all the go Green,
(05:35):
go white. I said. Second of all, I went to
Michigan much like you went to Michigan State, but every
looking cranny in the world is touched by the University
of Michigan. I said. We are global and international. That's
why I enjoyed about the brand. When I said that,
you should have just seen everybody in the crowd. Oh oh,
the deflation. And then I proceed to leave the event,
(05:57):
which had a great time. Thank you for hosting me.
The food was really good. In the suite. I got
to talk to the people in an arbor because they
got found out their recipe to what they cooking their food.
Was really good in the sweets. But then I proceed
to walk down the elevators with the two ladies that
run dan Arbor House, and I look at the statue
in the background. Now you can pay into it, and
I said, I've always wanted to take a picture with
(06:18):
the statue. I never know what I wanted the picture
to be like, but I wanted to take a picture.
I wanted it to be right. Moment I jumped up
on this statue, I looked the spartan dead in his eyes,
and I asked him, I said, you remember, don't you?
You remember me, don't you? And I legitimately took this
picture sent it to the group, and I realized I
am definitely a villain because this is villainous behavior. There's
(06:41):
no respect. I jumped on the statue, I'm standing on it.
My kicks were brand news, so you know whatever, But
got my fist balled up?
Speaker 2 (06:48):
Shut I see that, I see you're ready for a fight.
Speaker 5 (06:50):
That's the part I knew you would talk about, Like
my fist balled up like that wasn't a part of
the stick, that was the kool aide. That wasn't a
part of like, oh you know, it's gonna look that
much better. The fist clinch, the fistball is a natural
reaction to this energy.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Do you think he's gonna swing at you.
Speaker 5 (07:10):
Let's think I know the first one. I know he
knows not to swim.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
It's just a statue.
Speaker 5 (07:17):
See that.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
Thank you. I've been there. I appreciate it, right.
Speaker 5 (07:20):
I know he knows not to swim because I'm the
wrong I'm the wrong one when it comes.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
You're the wrong effort to deal with one.
Speaker 5 (07:28):
But David was good and I just enjoy.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
This is this is the one I like. I think
that's you know that that's more you. That's your personality
right there, you know what I mean.
Speaker 5 (07:39):
But on the football field, there's a dark sad oh
for sure, and that dark sack because Brailen's breakdown today,
it's a fun one. It's a unique one.
Speaker 7 (07:48):
So that's the duality of break the battle football field
the other one that's.
Speaker 5 (07:52):
Off the bright this this is me now, relax, that's
that's I really like. I mean the fruit. I got
my deluxe mixed. You know what's over here? I got water.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
He loves the superheroes, right, so he's Batman, Superman. Well,
in these two pictures. You know, it's two faced, right,
it's the guy who flips the coin. So there's one
side of him and then there's the other side of it.
You don't want you don't want to meet that first one.
You don't want to meet that first one. Kool aid,
you don't want to meet that first one.
Speaker 5 (08:21):
Michigan State knows him all too well. I just realized, bro, you.
Speaker 8 (08:26):
Took yeah, yeah, yeah, I'll tell you if you look
at that, he's got him.
Speaker 5 (08:35):
I gotta remind the great people around the state because
you know what happens in this rivalry which I love
so much, is Michigan and Michigan State always like Michigan
always cares about the rivy. Even when we're sorry, we
still care.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
Even though people don't think you do. They think it
means more to m s U. Than Michigan, But it does.
Speaker 5 (08:54):
It does.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
It ultimately does because of the Ohio state.
Speaker 5 (08:58):
Yea, they don't have a house state, got you.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
If they had a second rivalry, it might be a
little bit.
Speaker 5 (09:03):
If Notre Dame was year to year, because their Notre
Dame rivals is really a good one.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
Yeah it really.
Speaker 5 (09:10):
They had that year to year, then they would have
something as well. They have us, which I get, but
this is a local battle. Even though it's a major,
two major institutions, it's more local. I give you a
hit on why it's local. When I got to the
NFL in two thousand and five, right talking to and
this is before, this is before social media is for
everybody clips and everything is always out there. You had
(09:30):
to make ESPN for people to see your clips. And
YouTube came a little bit after, like two six, they
started putting all their footage out there. Five or seven,
I got into the league and legitimate that Michigan State
game happened my senior year. So this is the driving
force of me getting drafted, or one of the motive
motivating factors. When I got dripped to the Browns, they
were like, we keep hearing about some Michigan State game,
(09:52):
Like did you do something or something. I'm like, huh,
you didn't hear about that game? Like these are people
from other states, other cities, other places, must not.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
Be college football fans.
Speaker 5 (10:01):
True, but like, but you think about what it was
back then. Shep like it was different back then. Meanwhile,
they did proceed to ask me. They said, man, you
tore it up against Ohio State No. Three. That was
two years prior. But Ohio State is a national brand.
Everybody sees that.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
Well, you're also in Ohio. Maybe that matters, no.
Speaker 5 (10:19):
Because you know, because the guys that I'm talking about
were NFL guys, and they were guys that they were
in the league. You guys were rookies. They were in
other places. So that's what I noticed then. But what
were we talking about, don't know how we got there.
Michigan State, how they feel about it.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
Yeah, it means more to them than you.
Speaker 5 (10:34):
It means a lot to us, and saying we don't
want to lose them, like this is the game you
don't want to lose. I will say that to lose
Ohio State is like, man, we should have beat them,
or damn I wish we would have beat them, But
it's Ohio State. That's a loss you take and it
is what it is. Because people feel a certain way
about you lose to Michigan State, I gotta see you
in the same state. They're gonna hold on to that forever.
(10:54):
Like legitimately, everybody in there was talking about the Spartan
Bob game. That's all they had to hold on they say.
But we got you one year. I'm like, man, there's
an asterisk, but you know what I digress.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
He slips that in there. When you had teammates who
weren't from the state of Michigan and they got ready
to play Michigan State, how did you describe feelings and
intensity in this rivalry.
Speaker 5 (11:18):
So teammates that I played with a Michigan that weren't
from here didn't understand it. You don't want to lose
this one, I said, Let mean, I'll backtrack. It's gonna
be physical, and this is going to be the thing
they say, the cliche thing it is that throw the
records out. You gotta throw the records out because that
team in East Lansing, Oh, they want this one more
than anything that they want this game. They're going to
(11:39):
give you everything they have. This is their super Bowl.
Like That's how we approached it because it was the truth.
This was their super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
Definitely a Mark for sure. I mean they've got to
they've got to feel like that.
Speaker 5 (11:51):
Before Mark D and before the run that they won
on I think they won seven out of nine, correct, nine,
I'm crazy like that before they went on that run,
like Michigan State would win a game, lose two, win
a game, lose four, win a game, lose five, when
a game lose two, So like it was just so
we knew we weren't gonna lose them. Like the mindset
(12:11):
was always, we're gonna lose this team. This isn't a
team you lose to, and so when you would lose
to them, it hurt more like we're better than them,
We're better than this program. We don't lose to this program.
When you would lose to them, you got to sit
on that three hundred and sixty four days. That's tough.
It would definitely be tough. My freshman year, like Lloyd
(12:32):
Wasyd was different after we lost that game.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Are coaches different during that week? Do you think the
two weeks the specific and you guys used to have
Notre Dame too, which is a good right, but it's
not as historic as Michigan State. Yeah, the Michigan State. Yeah,
really good. No, I don't disagree with that. I just
wonder if you noticed the difference in coaches the week
of the two biggest rivalries on your schedule.
Speaker 5 (12:56):
Yeah, we weren't trying as much those games, and that was
about physicality, that was about our bread butter. That's about
what we were good at. We're gonna take that into
the game, and we were gonna do that that. We
weren't gonna stray away from it. Like it wasn't gimmicks.
It wasn't Hey, we're gonna line up and do this.
Hey we're watching, Hey, they do this and that and not.
Now we're gonna line up and out mandam we run
the ball on them? If you we'll talk about the
top ten performances through my eyes in the Michigan Michigan
(13:16):
State rival. I got four Michigan State.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
It's gonna be awesome.
Speaker 5 (13:19):
Six Michigan is what it is. If you look at
the traditional biggest app or performance, there are running backs.
Like I was, I was trying to find quarterback moments.
There's only a couple quarterback moments that you can wint too.
Oh here's three hundred yards, Oh, here's here's four touchdowns,
here's that man. Running backs. Whichever offensive line controls the
(13:41):
trenches in that game more than any other, they're gonna win.
Speaker 2 (13:45):
That surprises me.
Speaker 5 (13:47):
And eighty nine yards. Tim Yakapatuka two hundred yards, Chris
Perry two hundred yards, Mike cart two hundred yards, John
Ringer two hundred yards. I mean, the list goes on
t J. Duckett, his brother, Tico Duckett, Yes, one hundred
and sixty yards. Lorenzo White Iron Wheatley my father's butcher,
Wolfolk my father's room, and he had two hundreds. But
it's always been about who controls the line of scrimmage
(14:07):
in the game. And you know what that is. That's attitude,
that's physical.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
But that's the surprising thing about it to me because
because it is such a physical game, and you would
know what a hell of a lot better than we would.
We can see it, we can feel it, you're actually
doing it. Because it's so physical, you would think that
those yards would be even tougher to come by.
Speaker 5 (14:26):
They are, but they're earned. Chris Perry had two two
hundred and eight yards rushing fifty one carries fifty one carry.
Speaker 2 (14:34):
That is feeding the beast.
Speaker 5 (14:35):
Yeah he got two hundred, but he had to work
to get it. Yeah. K nine and what he did
forty carries one hundred and eighty nine yards. And guess
what his office line was? Trash? That was all K
it was, That was all K nine and back cuts, encounters,
and they weren't even designed players Like he earned those yards.
He earned that, and the list goes on. So you're
gonna earn those yards. But it's going to be two
(14:57):
coaches that are going to stay fast at it. It's
gonna be two coaches that I'm not blinking. Well, I'm
not gonna blink well, I'm not gonna plan.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
I'm not letting you win this area of the game.
Speaker 5 (15:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
What's amazing to me is not just that you had
a really good time last night, even though you went
into the Wolves dead, but also that you're super tight
with a lot of those guys, even though they are
all about their school and you're all about yours.
Speaker 1 (15:19):
I love that.
Speaker 5 (15:19):
That's what makes the rivalry also so so connected, so tight,
and also so vicious, and so what it is is
because most of us went to high school together. Like
you either went to high school to guys that played
at the opposite or you played against guys that went
to the opposite or you were in the same neighborhoods,
you were in the same districts, you were in the
same all star games.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
Played them in conference games and league games.
Speaker 5 (15:41):
Like one of the guys in two thousand and three
that came in became like my my younger brother. I
loved him to death. It's Prescott Burgess, oh outa Ohios
was gonna go to House State, but he and Maury's correct,
they had be He chose us. We appreciated. His first
cousin was on Michigan State David Harrod, who was a starting.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
Linebacker and work for the school.
Speaker 5 (16:00):
Now I believe when I was at Michigan Ernietzer, who
also finished finalists in the Jim Thorpe my year, he
was All American. He's Walter camp uh Me and him
play the same team at King High School. We also
played with a guy named Kevin Vickerson who played at
Michigan State. So the connected defensive tackle thirteen years in NFL,
played for the Broncos and the Titans. Big guy as well.
(16:24):
I go to church with his brother. But uh, it's
you guys. You guys are in the same family, the
same friends, you're dating, the same girls. You guys are
going to the same churches. You're the same on the holidays.
Speaker 2 (16:38):
When we see each other, parties shopping together.
Speaker 5 (16:42):
So you're really friends.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
But you till you chose this.
Speaker 5 (16:46):
I chose that that week, we're going to rock and
roll and then after that we can reconvene and then
we'll talk about who won on Thanksgiving? And I never
wanted to come home losing to Michigan State.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
Why do we believe that you want to beat your
friends as much, if not more than your enemy? Do
you think?
Speaker 1 (17:00):
I mean?
Speaker 2 (17:00):
Isn't that a perfect example of what Michigan Michigan State
is all about. Sure, they're friends, there's a mutual respect there,
but you want to beat them because they are your
friends more than you want to beat your enemies.
Speaker 5 (17:10):
Sometimes friends have the same you have similar friends, You
guys are the same groups, You know the same people,
So like your world is legitimately always connected and rock
by your friends. So if you're playing against a friend
and you lose, you're not just going to hear from him,
You're gonna hear from Tommy, Johnny, Bobby, Sarah, Samantha, their mothers,
their aunties, their grandmother's, because we all know each other
(17:31):
like your enemies. Who cares Like I hate you, but
I don't have to deal.
Speaker 2 (17:35):
With I won't see you until next time.
Speaker 5 (17:37):
I won't have to do it. Although you I guess
it'scause social network now more connected, but back then, I
see you in three hundred and sixty four. If you
play against somebody in State, I'll see you tonight. Therein't
know how many times I went party in these lands
and after we won.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
But how often every time. But it's got to get
old to a certain extent, doesn't it.
Speaker 5 (17:54):
I mean, why winning?
Speaker 2 (17:55):
Well, if you lose, if you lose to them, you
said you got to hear about it three hundred and
sixty five days.
Speaker 5 (18:01):
That didn't happen.
Speaker 2 (18:02):
That's but that didn't happen.
Speaker 5 (18:06):
So for you, hypothetically, Mike Heart's falling over against Michigan State,
Like this is what he's falling on. I'm three and one. Yeah,
so the same thing they did. That is what we
have been doing for years and have started doing it again. Yeah,
Like I'm telling you, like watching Michigan State loss will
hurt so much as a kid, because I'm like, ain't
no way in hell we lost to them, Like the
infamous game, like Cedric Irvin had the fake field goal
(18:27):
and scored. I said, you dummies, he was fake. I
watched it the whole time, But that that was me
because I didn't think Michigan State ever had a chance
in beating Michigan. I was, yeah.
Speaker 2 (18:36):
So I know you get asked this all the time,
but I've never asked you. So it's gonna be the
first time. And I probably will repeat this question right
around Thanksgiving, and I think you probably know where it's going.
What is the level of difference in physicality and emotion
on Michigan State week and Ohio State Week? How do
you differentiate the two? Good question, Thanks Cooly. I come
(18:58):
up with one or two every once in a while.
Speaker 5 (19:00):
Ohio State was ridiculously physical as well. Yeah, but also
ridiculously skillful too, Like it was more of a chess match,
like where there's some times to be physical, there's some
times to you know, be finesse and figure it out.
I think Ohio State has got two finets and that's
their problem now, but you know, always gonna slip a
jab in there. But I think that's what that rival is.
(19:21):
It's physicality, but it's also like it's other stuff. It's
other things. It's a little more of a chess match.
You do try some plays against them because you need
stuff to work. Michigan State, you just line the f
up and you play.
Speaker 2 (19:33):
Do they how often have you been in a game
in either one of those?
Speaker 5 (19:37):
More physical to your point, Michigan State when I played,
was more physical because we're lining up and playing like
I had. I had two touchdowns one hundred and fourteen
yards my junior year. I only had four catches the
other ninety plays. I was putting the hat on the safety.
I was putting the hat on the linebacker. I was
coming in motion, coming underneath. I was cracking on the
DN because it was running the ball, and we knew
(19:59):
that going into the game. I was happy with a
couple of pass I was like, I appreciate that, thank
you for that touchdown?
Speaker 9 (20:04):
What too?
Speaker 5 (20:05):
Oh my god? Wow? Who do you need me to hit?
So but you knew that, man in those games were physical.
Most physical game was Iowa. Michigan State was I hated
playing there. There's some corn fed, there's some corn fed.
You know what all they do is physicality. They showed
us a video going into my junior when we played them,
they were working out picking up tractors in the corn fields.
(20:29):
I was like, we gotta play these fools, and then
you go play them the physicality. You know you played.
Speaker 2 (20:34):
Them, remember you're like they're strong, remember they.
Speaker 5 (20:36):
Talked about the forty nine ers. Yeah, the record three
years ago after playing them was like, oh and fifteen.
Then it became the Lions after playing them the last
couple of years, it became on whatever it is. That
was Iowa. You played Iowa, you felt it. The next
game Michigan State. Ohio State was third.
Speaker 2 (20:50):
That's really interesting.
Speaker 5 (20:51):
Yeah, Iowa first for sure.
Speaker 2 (20:53):
Wow, what about the chirping that goes on? How much
is there is there any more in the an arrivalry
game like issue than there would be any other games.
There's gotta be some talk. There's always talking at the
bottle of piles, but especially.
Speaker 5 (21:07):
During the game. Yeah, during the game, Michigan State was
probably more talk. Michigan State was more talk. How State
kind of was? It was more respect, like we're both
here to do the same thing, like at this.
Speaker 2 (21:18):
Point, really I would have thought it was the other
way around.
Speaker 5 (21:20):
Yeah, but like Ohio State, like it's more serious And
I know that sounds crazy to say, Hoile State. I'm
not focusing on jaw jacking with Roger Maples or Jalen
Johnson or Jason Harmon or Eric Smith. I'm not interested
in George Jackins with them I care less, like I'm
excuse me. Ohio State with Chris Gamble and those guys
Will Allen and I saw it's business. They're just serious,
(21:42):
like each play is could decide what this game was.
Mike Dawes, I'm not interested in getting caught up with
Mike Dawson. Who will try you try to get you
caught up? No, no, no, let me dial in Michigan State.
We've been knowing each other for so long that it's
beyond football. Like I've been chirping with him since I
played at the Cubs. He played for the Raiders and
the opening game of the year, the NAACP Classic. I've
(22:03):
been like Roderick Maples, who was a dB at Cast,
who was a dB that scored on a couple of times.
He went to Cast, I went to King. We're rivals.
He was nice in high school. His nickname was Mates
mean time you have a nickname, your cold. But he was.
But I've been competing against him since literally he went
to the Cubs. I played for I played for the Cubs.
(22:24):
He played for Raiders, he played for CAST. I played
for King, he played for Cast. I played for Michigan.
Speaker 2 (22:30):
So like I played for State you played for Michigancuse me.
Speaker 5 (22:33):
I've known you so long. I've been talking, you know what,
since we were twelve thirteen years old.
Speaker 2 (22:37):
So it just goes right through.
Speaker 5 (22:38):
It's part of converas.
Speaker 2 (22:39):
But come on, there's got to be some insults.
Speaker 5 (22:42):
Somebody's got to Ohio State is more insultive like Ohio
State is more like I really will fight you after
this game.
Speaker 2 (22:48):
Well, I would guess Michigan is the same way.
Speaker 5 (22:51):
Yes, No, Michigan State's more so like this is through
the game at the end of the day.
Speaker 2 (22:54):
Michigan doesn't say that that you guys aren't throwing insults
out there. Absolutely you are. You have to.
Speaker 5 (22:59):
I'm not talking about our school. I'm saying in the games.
I'm saying Ohio State, the back and forth will lead
you to a fight. Michigan State is kind of like, man,
shut up, and then at the end of the game,
it's a daph up. All right, cool, I'll see you
tonight or I'll see you doing Thanksgiving vacation. So yeah,
but no, that Ohio State stuff was serious. Mischigan stuff was.
(23:20):
You know, let's get through this game. Talk some stuff.
Speaker 2 (23:22):
It is accentuated when you have some of the fights
in the tunnels.
Speaker 5 (23:25):
That's more recent.
Speaker 2 (23:26):
Yes, I know, yeah, yeah, but that's real.
Speaker 5 (23:29):
It is real, and it started, and I feel like
it started with Michigan State, to be honest. I feel
like that energy started the Devin Bush.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
Situation when he was on the field to play and
scraping his cleats across the Michigan State's logo.
Speaker 5 (23:41):
But see, you missed a very keyton part that Michigan
State deal that they do when they go arm to
arm from the goal line and goal line, they don't
do that until a certain time. Devin Bush hadn't cleared,
like he hadn't missed the mark in terms of when
to get off the field. They started it early and
didn't give him a chance.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
And just so people are aware, there is a rundown
of that every team has of what's going on, what
time is right, when your time is, when the national
anthem is, when you're expected to be on the field
to play, when the captains are supposed to go out
on the clock. Everybody, every coaching staff gets that rundown
in every sport. Just so you're aware.
Speaker 5 (24:15):
Go ahead, Sorry, So they knew that Devin still had
six seven eight, But whatever the minutes were they chose
to lock arms, they chose to walk proceedingly. As he's
walking off the field, they're walking towards him. Mind you,
he didn't move. He stood his ground man up like
we do. That's why it starts within m And then
they deebowed their way through him. It was a little
bit of push and shove. Coaches came and then he
(24:36):
did what he did. He stumped on the Michigan State
still logo in the middlefield because of what had happened,
and Michigan State took that as disrespect. They never got
over it, and each year there was more and more
and more, until eventually you get to the point of
what happened in the tunnel.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
Yeah, the spike, your flag planning, all that stuff. I
personally and now as a fan, you love it. I
was just gonna say I love it too.
Speaker 5 (24:59):
They made too much it.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
Yeah, I love it too. I think that's what makes
college athletics different than pro I mean, the passion is
much different. Look, there's really good rivalries in the NFL.
You and I both know that Kansas City the Raiders
used to be special, and that AFC West Lions, Vikings,
Vikings Bears, Bears, Packers, we found Redskins, Cowboys, we found
(25:23):
all kinds of really good rivalries up and down the
National Football League, probably a little bit stronger back in
the seventies and eighties, but they're still there. In college football,
it's probably more reserved, but it's a lot more passionate
because of how many people that truly reaches, of the
people who went to that school and live and die
by that.
Speaker 5 (25:40):
And that's it. Back in the day, I don't know
what it is now. This is a weird, interesting landscape.
If it's the same, then cool. I hope so. I
hope you get the same experience I had back in
the day. I hated you because of the school you
went to. In the NFL, It's like, look, I don't
like you because you're in my way. Yeah, Like you're
just you're the next team up to in the way
of the goal that we had set. We want to
get to the playoff. You're here. We got to beat
(26:01):
you to get there. When you're in college, I hate
you because of the colors you're wearing. I hate you.
I hate you at campus. I hate your institution, like
I hate everything about what you represent. You wear, your hair.
I hate the way that you shoes. I shout out
to boys in the hood. I know where that movie
is from. I hate your black skin. Hate black That
(26:23):
was the remac don't teacher, Don't be a menace. But yes,
I hated them because of what they wore. I hated
them because of the colors that they chose, institution that
they chose, in the history that came before them.
Speaker 2 (26:36):
So do you feel it's rooted generally here? I mean,
those are great stories and we greatly appreciate them, thank you.
Do we feel Michigan Michigan State is one of the
best rivalries in college football. And when I say one
of the best, I guess I have to clarify with
a number, right, probably is it a top ten, top
fifteen college football rivalry in your mind?
Speaker 5 (26:57):
No, No, Michigan Michigan State has had one meaningful game
in the last fifteen years. Yeah, one meaningful game. I
mean maybe maybe two twenty sixteen.
Speaker 8 (27:10):
I would say twenty fifteen and twenty twenty one.
Speaker 5 (27:13):
Okay, there you go. They've had two meaningful games in
ten years. And if you want to track back before
that and whether it was our fault in the earlier
that we were losing in two thousand and nine through fifteen. Yeah,
nine through fifteen, all right, cool, we dropped the ball there.
But even before that, there weren't meaningful games. Like when
I played at Michigan, Michigan State was ranked one time,
(27:33):
like they were ranked one time when I played against
him and it was my junior they were ranked eleventh.
Beat They were actually ranked eleventh. We were thirteenth. We
beat them, and then they finished unranked. So the answer
is no. And locally it's a major rivalry the Midwest,
it's a major rivalry. But outside of regional no.
Speaker 2 (27:51):
That's I'm trying to think back. I'm not great with years.
When you see in the last would you say fifteen I.
Speaker 5 (28:00):
Said, I said fifteen. He gave me another one. You
can say fifteen years, yeah.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
Fourteen years, last fifteen years, there's only one meaningful game. Two.
Speaker 5 (28:08):
Yes. In twenty twenty one, they were third and seven.
They both were undefeated. Michigan State won and it ended
up proceeding to be a good year for the both
of the bother of the teams. In twenty fifteen, Michigan
had a chance to win, they lose, Michigan State wins
the Big Ten that year. Yeah, so that game directly
affected what Michigan State could do. What Michigan do. I
think Michigan State goes to. Yeah, they went to Indianapolis
(28:31):
that year and that's what I mean, and to the
playoffs where they got smacked by Alabama. Don't feel bad,
we got smacked by him too, I'm honest. I'm honest.
But in that in that stretch period, that's all like,
if your game doesn't have any and we played early
so it can get better later. But if you're meeting
and one team is under five hundred consistently, or one
(28:53):
team is not going to be in any type of
mattering as it relates to results for the season, then
that's not meaning for football.
Speaker 7 (29:00):
You know, how much does that play into your game
day readiness when you're looking at a team that you're
usually getting up for, if it's some Michigan State, you know,
the N State rivallegue, What does it do to you
when you realize they've been down for a long time
and it don't look like they're gonna really pose a challenge?
Speaker 5 (29:14):
What the good news is like? When that would happen
back then, That's what coaches are for. That's what Lloyd
Carrs are for. That's what the Nick Sabans are for.
That's what the Bust Shimbuckers for. That's what the George
perlis Is are for. They're to motivate the men. It
doesn't matter what the record is, it's deeper than that.
That's what they're for. Now, you don't have that type
of motivation because the traditions don't matter, because the rivalries
don't matter, and people are like every year it's legitimately
(29:37):
at least seventy seventy new guys on the team, especially
in East Lansing, it's like it's like, for sure forty
five new faces on the team each year. So you
can't be so down into that because now it hasn't
become about where I'm going to, you know, like submit
my legacy and following tradition. It's where am I going
for a year, where I can advance myself and take
a step towards where I want to go next. Michigan
(29:58):
state this year, Maybe I'm a Oklahoma next year, Michigan
this year. Maybe I'm going to insert Alabama Georgia next year.
So no, it's not the same emphasis.
Speaker 2 (30:09):
That's interesting, I guess to me, I'm sure Michigan State
would probably feel the same way. I don't know if
I don't think two teams have to be ranked for
it to mean something.
Speaker 5 (30:20):
But that's not what you ask, so are you? But
you just ask two different things.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
What do you mean?
Speaker 5 (30:26):
You said? You said what type of rivalry is it?
You say, is it a top ten rivalry?
Speaker 2 (30:30):
Yeah? Is it a top ten top fifteen rival right?
Speaker 5 (30:33):
And now you're saying teams don't have to be ranked
for it to mean anything. When you say the first question,
then is it a top ten rivary? Top ten rivals
the usual rivers that decide something fair enough, like Duke
UNC basketball is deciding something like Michigan Ohio State has
gotten back to that lant. It's deciding something good.
Speaker 1 (30:52):
Point.
Speaker 2 (30:52):
Ye, I'd buy that.
Speaker 5 (30:54):
I absolutely buy Alabama, LSU for a time, Auburn.
Speaker 2 (30:56):
But that's not considered a top ten rival No, it's not, okay,
So you get in other words, U, C, l A
and USC is not a top ten rivalry. No, okay,
Army Navy. Army Navy is not a top ten rivalry. Yes,
I think so, Yes, I think it is too. I agree,
what is it deciding besides your trophy.
Speaker 5 (31:13):
But it's deeper than signing the national championship because they're
not playing for national championship.
Speaker 2 (31:18):
No, I understand that. I understand that it's deeper than that.
I just it's got to decide something. I think it's
a great point. And I think you're you're talking about this.
Speaker 5 (31:25):
You're talking about the Battle of Naval that neighbor force
is the Battle of Branches America.
Speaker 2 (31:29):
You're talking about, right, But air Force is in there too, Okay,
so true. But and I'm bringing in a few different
things here. I'm trying to I'm trying to decide.
Speaker 5 (31:37):
You're trying to throw me off the game. And I'm
just simply saying, like.
Speaker 2 (31:40):
You're not trying to throw off, Okay, just wondering. I'm
getting your opinion on something.
Speaker 5 (31:44):
How about we do this? Then? How about we decide
which teams matter, which teams are the one of the
top tens, and then we take that and then from
that we could figure out what do they have in common? Okay,
I think we can so. Michigan, ohiose states in there
for sure, Navy.
Speaker 2 (31:59):
Army name, they're in there for sure.
Speaker 5 (32:02):
Notre Dame and USC in there. I think, so, I
have no problem with that there in there all right,
Oklahoma and Texas, I'd say so.
Speaker 2 (32:10):
I would say so too, would you say Florida Florida State?
Speaker 5 (32:16):
And yes. But here's where we get into the the
meaningful now like what have you done for me lately
type situation? Right, Like Florida Florida State definitely was in
there for a while, like Bobby Bowden and freaking Steve
Spray Spurriyer won the Heisman and national championship and then
he turned on wins that championship as a coach.
Speaker 2 (32:34):
But I mean they're separated by one hundred fish. And
before people say, well, you can't have to Florida Miami. Uh,
people would argue that one of the best Florida rival
riess Florida State by Dame Miami.
Speaker 5 (32:48):
Okay, not to day in Miami, for they encapsulated in
the eighties.
Speaker 2 (32:51):
And how many times do you have to meet? I mean,
there's so much criteria. I'm not trying to box anybody
into a definitive answer here. I'm just getting your opinion
on things. I think a lot of times we are
fed what people consider to be the best rivalries in
college football, and then we make up the rules as
we go along. Florida. Florida State hasn't met anything. If
(33:12):
they play when they play this year, did it did
it mean something?
Speaker 4 (33:16):
Man?
Speaker 2 (33:16):
You would think so, right, But is either one. Is
Florida State gonna win a national champions A hell no,
They're not going to do. So that's what I'm trying
to I mean, I think his answer is right, it
has to decide something. Mississippi State Old miss ain't deciding
anything this year, folks. But I swear to God, they'll
tell you that it's a hell of a rivalry down there, right,
(33:37):
So I appreciate Florida Georgia. Right, George is gonna kick
the crap out of them, right, Florida, that's not deciding anything.
But that's a hell of a rivalry.
Speaker 5 (33:47):
But also to knows what you're naming and knows where
you're going. Football means more in South, right. I saw
a zach you're going, And I agree the rivers are
different down there because football is what's a little bit
of coach football is every thing in the South. We've
always known that. So when you mentioned SEC, a lot
of those programs, but they're big time games. Because I
agree with you.
Speaker 2 (34:08):
As a Michigander I and traveling down south. It pained
me to admit that because here's what I know. I
know down south, college football matters, Okay, it met in
the Midwest, especially in the state of Michigan pro sports.
I think it's the the reason I always say we're
among the best sports fans in the country is because
(34:30):
we have college and pro. Out East, they have pro.
They don't have college.
Speaker 5 (34:36):
Right, they got basketball, and they got they got yeah.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
And down and down South, it's college and out West.
There's a lot of times they don't care. Right in
the Midwest, we've got both. Right, especially in the state
of Michigan. There's more people in Michigan and Michigan State
on a Saturday than there are some NFL teams.
Speaker 5 (34:54):
Actually, when I was younger, Michigan is a bigger basketball
state than football. There.
Speaker 2 (34:58):
You go. Same here when I was a kid, the
city of Detroit. Without question, what are we what are
we known for?
Speaker 5 (35:05):
Basket?
Speaker 2 (35:05):
Okay, so high school Texas right, if you think high
school football, you think.
Speaker 5 (35:09):
Texas, Texas, Texas County, Florida, right, Pennsylvania, Ohio three.
Speaker 2 (35:16):
Right, when you think hockey, you think.
Speaker 5 (35:19):
Minnesota, Minnesota, Michigan, Maine, and.
Speaker 2 (35:21):
Bo Dakota, Boston, Massachusetts. Sorry, that's why to a certain.
Speaker 5 (35:25):
Extent, Well, Maine number three in terms of professional hockey players.
I think Michigan's one mains two.
Speaker 2 (35:31):
No, I think you think of Massachusetts, Minnesota, Michigan, Massachusetts.
Those are the three cities or three states, excuse me.
And then the other would be, you know, basketball, and
that's what I always thought, you know, especially in the
city of Detroit. But to Braylen's point, the state of
Michigan with Flint and Saginaw the basketball mecca, right, and
now do you think that anymore? Probably not right. So
(35:55):
I always held on to selfishly, okay, and admitting I'm
wrong here that the Michigan Ohio state rivalry definitely, if
not number one, one of the best college football rivalries. Ever,
I think the Michigan Michigan state belongs in the same conversation,
and that's me wanting it to be more than perhaps
many people think it is.
Speaker 5 (36:13):
Okay, I agree with that, and that's fine. I think
for me why it's hard is because maybe I'm too
connected to it till it's hard for me to decipher.
But when I think about the Michigan Michigan State. It
not only is deciding big tens, deciding national championship, it's
deciding Heisman Trophy winners. Like there's been a bunch of
times I've turned on the TV and it's like, if
this guy have a game to night, he's gonna win
the national champion, He's gonna win the Heisan desmin. However,
(36:35):
if this guy goes off today, here comes the heisand Trophy.
Charles Woodson. If this guy goes off, he's got a
shot to get to New York K nine should have got,
should have got there, got j Barrett Got played a
one hundred percent exactly these way in that moment. But
Ohio State the players the first round picks, Michigan the
first round picks. Like, there's just so much more low right, There's.
Speaker 2 (36:55):
Also there's also magical moments, and I think that's a
big part of it. When you have David Boston fighting
Charles Woodson. Okay, when you have as you mentioned, Charles
Woodson with the rose in his mouth, or when you
have a guy like Desmond Howard doing the post, all
those things matter for sure.
Speaker 5 (37:13):
And then you get the run back where Charles legitimately
runs up the exact same sideline, the exact same way,
in the exact same end zone as Desmond did you know,
six years prior, and it basically sealed his faith too.
Like to your point, goosebumps, think aboutcause I was at
both games.
Speaker 2 (37:28):
Yeah, but there are moments. Remember the interception by Woodson,
So we'll talk about that at MSU. Holy Mother.
Speaker 5 (37:35):
That was a throwaway. By the way, was Bill Burker
threw bur Burke's last year. That was a throw away.
That was not his last year. That was his first
starting year. Excuse me, that was a throwaway. He's talked
about this numerous times. I remember listening to him postgame
when I was a kid. He was like, he said,
I literally was trying to get the ball out of there,
trying to live to the next down, and I just
(37:56):
see a hand reach up, Like that's exactly what he
said in interviews. I was trying to throw the ball away,
live to the next down. He said, I just saw
a handle up and he said, my guy, he said,
I saw it. He called it like that's what the
quarterback said. Like when someone talks about a player like that,
you know that player is different for sure. The first
time you watched Reggie Busch at USC You're just marvelous.
(38:17):
Like there are players that you can just listen to
other players talk about and to give you a better
just to you know what. I don't have to ask
how good this player I was, because that player.
Speaker 2 (38:26):
Just told me exactly. That's why I say this all
the time. It's really hard to impress you. When you
tell me that wide receiver is dope, Thank you, kol
When that, when you tell me that dude is great,
then I go, okay, that dude's great. This is not
no offense, right Ryan telling me I think that guy's great. No,
you've done it. You've been there, you've seen it, you've
played against him, right, you've played with him. You know
(38:47):
who is and who isn't. And when a guy says
he's like man, that is unbelievable. You know it's something special.
All right, we are late for a break. I mean
kool aid, You guys would it was kool aid had
a cane. If he had a cane, he would have
taken it and put it around my neck and pull
me because he's over there. There's no doubt. It's like
your old girlfriend at the bar. When you're with somebody new,
(39:09):
the evil eye from kool Aid can be a little strong.
Sometimes I can promise you that I've been on the
other end. But when we come back and we're creeping
up to it, man, it's about twenty one minutes in
counting for Braylen's breakdown. But first, this from Ben Johnson.
Speaker 5 (39:23):
That's why I don't go to bars that my old
girlfriend used.
Speaker 2 (39:25):
To go to.

to be done yet. You're supposed to wait. You see me,
You see what's going on here?
Speaker 4 (39:53):
Right?
Speaker 5 (39:54):
Come on, man, But see I want to talking, but
I want but I wanted this. I want you to
come in talk about art and Jason talking about I'm
about what I'm about to do.
Speaker 2 (40:00):
Yeah, Arton Jakes' is We've got a huge watch party
taking place this weekend, all right, and Arton Jakes has
got some really good stuff in all their six locations,
all right. And the watch party is going to be
in Lansing, all right. It's the Woodward Sports College Football
Show and it's gonna be live at Arton Jake's on
October twenty fifth. It's all about the Michigan Michigan State matchup.
(40:22):
And you're going to see this at Arton Jakes because
right now Braylan EBIs is gonna sign his jersey and
it's going to go in a beautiful frame on the
wall there at Arton Jakes. So we want you to
come out and hang out with us.
Speaker 5 (40:37):
We want you to.
Speaker 2 (40:37):
I mean, look at that beautiful food. It looks so good,
doesn't it. Wall to wall coverage over eighty TVs if
you've never been there. They've got six locations. As I mentioned,
they've got eighty television sets in each one of those locations.
They make sure all their bartenders are ready for the
twenty two different beers on tap for you, and of
course the menu. It's not just snacks. It's really good food.
(40:57):
Be there for our watch party and Braylan's jersey putting
up at Art and Jake's sports bar and grill an.
He's lancing right now and he's gonna sign it right now.
He's gonna sign it right at the number one, aren't you?
Speaker 5 (41:09):
Okay, still get a little jealous of when I signed
these new jerseys because I got the Jordan on there,
and I just excuse me, the jump man. I just
only wish you know what I would have did with
my uniform if I had to jump in and the
gear and the drift that they have, I would have
had a black vist.
Speaker 2 (41:26):
You would have gone all out. Yeah, every kid, every
kid already wanted to be like you, They would have
been wanted even that much more. There it is right there,
signing behind Paul Bunyon, behind Paul Bunyon, behind the Michigan helmet.
Speaker 5 (41:38):
Yeah, he's all that up man.
Speaker 2 (41:39):
That is going on Art and Jake's in Lancing, going
on their real quick shout out. It's a beautiful thing.
Look at you zooming in clean Emmy Award winning signature
right there. We'll be back after this.
Speaker 5 (41:55):

You know we're talking about Michigan, Michigan State, the rivalry
that's taking place this Saturday. Well, what are you gonna
be drinking at those tailgates that you're gonna be there.
I'm gonna be there on Saturday for sure, and sun
Cruiser odd vodka iced tea will be in a lot
of people's hands, all right, real vodka, realized tea, clean
crisp sip, only one hundred calories. It's not gonna fill
(46:56):
you up, and you're gonna have a great time. So
I don't care if it's at the tailgate or at
a party at home while you're watching the game. It
is all about sun Cruiser Vodka iced tea to make
things go well. Have a great time, but please drink responsibly. Yeah,
we bet last night was a tough night, man, it
was a really tough night.
Speaker 5 (47:13):
I'm gonna let you cool it talking out. I'm gonna
let you ask me.
Speaker 2 (47:17):
Yeah, no, look, it was twofold. So I thought, you know,
the Red Wings came out and I don't think Buffalo's
very good. But you know, I give respect to every
team that's out there. I mean, they're e lead athletes.
I don't think Detroit laid the way they had been played,
not just because they didn't win, but they weren't playing
the same style. They were looser last night. Excuse me
(47:39):
that they had been the previous fives five games in
which sure they won, but it's how you play more
than anything else.
Speaker 4 (47:46):
Then.
Speaker 2 (47:47):
And I'm flipping back and forth between you of that
and the Pistons, and I'm watching the Pistons, and you know,
Chicago's hitting shots. That's fine, Duncan Robinson went hitting anything.
It's just one game. I'm not I didn't overreact to
the Tigers losing in the at LA against the Dodgers,
even the first three games. I'm not overreacting to the Pistons.
But you better start making some shots. You better take
(48:09):
onto the carry, take care of the basketball down the stretch,
and you better get more support in that starting lineup
than just KD. Cunningham, who I didn't think was all
that great last night either. Isaiah Stewart was probably their
best player for crying out loud. But you're gonna need
more than just that bench. And this is the thing
that I was worried about with the Pistons. You lost
(48:30):
a lot of shooting Malik Beasley, Tim Hardaway obviously a
little bit later on than as Shrewder. But can you
get that shooting and scoring back with just a couple
of guys. You're asking Ron Holland and Asar Thompson to
make a major leap. Both of them were good last night.
(48:51):
They have to be even better moving forward, especially without
Jay Knight.
Speaker 7 (48:55):
And you know what, and you're preaching them when you
talk about the outside shooting. One of the questions we
asked audience last night, KG and I on the stream,
thank you to you guys for tapping into the what
We're Sports Piston season tipball show over fourteen thousand of you,
and that was one of the topics.
Speaker 5 (49:08):
Man.
Speaker 7 (49:08):
You know, Karas Savern and Doncan Robinson they made a
combined about four point two threes per game. But when
you're looking Elie Busy and Tim Hardaway Junior, because it's
not just Busy, it was Tim Hardaway Junior too. Those
guys combined for six threes per game. And it wasn't
just it wasn't just that they were making It was
that they were also able to take the brunt of
(49:30):
the offense early on when the team was struggling. Last year,
Tim Hardaway Junr was one of those guys to kind
of step up and help to stabilize things. If Karas
Savert and Duckan Robinson aren't able to do that, because
it's not just too veter missing, you're also talking about
Jay Navy who's down and they were.
Speaker 12 (49:44):
Not able to bring back on Malie Beasley.
Speaker 5 (49:47):
This is gonna this is gonna make.
Speaker 7 (49:48):
This what some people believe to be a tough start
to the season schedule wise. This could see them going
into that zero to five hole that a lot of
fans are fearing that they're gonna fall into.
Speaker 2 (49:59):
Yeah, too worried about that yet. I mean they shot
fifty one percent from two. Yeah, okay, I don't look
at You've lost two key guys shooting threes. The two
guys coming in have to make that up. I don't
buy that because Krislovert's not a three point shooter, Okay,
so it's got to be the other guys who are
at least making up some of that ground. But Duncan Robinson,
(50:21):
if you're gonna go for five and one for seven,
I mean that's that's a bad signing. And I don't
think he will.
Speaker 5 (50:26):
I'm just saying, yeah, I'm thinking about one for seven.
I don't want to overdo it. But when you use
the Detroit Tigers in terms of their three game series
against the Dodgers, like we saw enough elements out of
the game one. They blew two of those games in
which they could have won point too. You see some
of the hitters like Glabor Tours and you just picked
up and get some Mitch. You see Spencer Torgus, and
the biggest thing about him in that moment is now
only that he was getting some hiss, It was his eye.
I was very impressed in what his eye was at
(50:46):
that point. I think that the.
Speaker 2 (50:47):
Boy he was spitting on rather than what he was
swinging at.
Speaker 5 (50:50):
So I think there were elements of that where you're like,
you know what I saw what you did last year.
I know who the GM excuse me, I know the
skipper is. I'm cool with this, and I was as well.
I agree with you with the Pistons. It's Malik Beezy.
Outside of just the three point ability that he had,
he had a dog mentality about him. He had a
little bit extra that he would do, like he was
able to connect with the players. He was able to
sense when it was time to turn up and the
(51:11):
things to do. Duncan Robinson, I love him. He's Michigan.
He's a mazing Blue Go Blue. But I don't know
if he has that same energy that Malik Beasley has
went to you need to play and you get to
the basket or you know, rouse somebody up. Get that energy.
It can take time, so I'm not overly judging. It's
one game, but that would be my question. I believe
he bought and that's why Trajon lane and is legitimately
(51:32):
you've heard him talk about the situation. They're waiting to
see how things pan out. They hope that he's clear.
They hope because they're bringing him back. They respect. There
was something a little bit more than what he did
than you know, shooting threes and you know, doing his
signature dance in the whole nine yards. It was more
to Malik besy toll he brought to the team. If
you're gonna lose Tim Hardaway, who does that as well.
Speaker 2 (51:53):
And he's got that dog mentality too.
Speaker 5 (51:55):
One thousand percent shout to another University of Michigan brother,
he got Carris as well, Michigan. But yes, I wonder
about that. I wonder about where will you get that
energy from? And the biggest thing is somebody's got to
be able to score some points, like we can't put
everything on cave.
Speaker 2 (52:12):
Yeah, and it's not just that, And you need your
bigs like Jalen during got an early filed trouble. It's ridiculous.
Kay Cunningham was in early filed trouble. But more importantly,
I mean somebody gonna is someone going to guard Nikola
Busevich who was just getting Vitoria's pistons color. Oh fine,
but he was getting whatever the hell he wanted, everything
he wanted, and and a lot of it was going in.
(52:34):
Dude was eleven for eighteen. He was the best player
on the floor. So again, it's one game, not a
huge deal, but I sure don't want it to be
a trend.
Speaker 7 (52:44):
I think that a little bit of what you're talking about,
Bray and what we all combay out on yesterday about
what draws us into this Pistons team. Well, that's what
was missing in that first half of that game. And
you heard the players step up and talk about it too.
Their energy, their hustle, they're diving on the floor, their physicality.
The things that underpinned their ability to win last year
wasn't just three point shooting. You know, there were times
(53:05):
when there three points shoot wasn't so hot and they
were still able to go out there and dog out
a win.
Speaker 5 (53:09):
That's what was missing last night. I agree.
Speaker 7 (53:11):
You know, even with Duncan Robinson not really shooting that well,
the dude still only.
Speaker 5 (53:14):
Takes like four or five shots a game.
Speaker 7 (53:16):
I'm looking at the guys like Jalen duran They talked
about the Shepard with that media day.
Speaker 12 (53:20):
Jalen Durton has to stand at those tik A Tack files.
Speaker 5 (53:22):
They said this.
Speaker 7 (53:23):
This was a point of emphasis for them, and they
reiterated that at some of the training camp practices.
Speaker 5 (53:27):
I was at too. But what do you see last night?
Speaker 7 (53:30):
As soon as they got those first two, they couldn't
stop the pick and roll between them. They attacked him
and attacked him almost as if this is the game plan.
We know that you guys are probably better than us
talent wise or talent wise. But if we can get
your guys out of the game, if we can get
you guys flustered, then we got you.
Speaker 2 (53:46):
It's a scouting report, man. And they started the third
quarter with the eloop as well. I think what I
was hoping to see, and I saw a little glimpse
of it, Jared Duran trying to expand his offensive game.
It needs to go a little bit wider. I agree.
I don't expect them to be Isaiah Stewart and hit
two for two from deep, but it's it's got to
(54:07):
be more than four feet man. I mean, and if
people are wondering, why haven't you agreed with you? Why
haven't Okay, Uh, that validates things I think with you.
It's when people wonder why haven't they extended Jade and
Ivy and Jalen Duran that might be part of the problem.
That and the injury problem with with the other player.
(54:31):
So I mean, you want that extension and extend your
game a.
Speaker 4 (54:34):
Little bit more.
Speaker 5 (54:34):
Thirty million is a lot, Yeah, sure is thirty millions
a lot. Now you brought up ab you still he's
been a guy that I've been critical about in the
last couple years. I did never. I did not see
the value of what he was was he reminded me
Jason Maxiel, and that.
Speaker 2 (54:49):
Was Cincinnati, understand it.
Speaker 5 (54:51):
Yeah, so that was my thing. But last night, you
see the elements in there where you're like, man, if
we could have had this guy in the playoffs last year,
that's when I'm watching the game kind of that's what
I took from his play and what it was. I
instantly went back, I said, he could have used So.
Speaker 2 (55:06):
It's funny I said the same thing because last year,
I said, Okay, really, would you have made that much
of a difference. Would you have been able to guard
Karl Anthony Towns that much better and been more of
an offensive force? Because I think a lot of people
kind of lay off him a little bit. But now
that he's added a little bit more to his offensive game, look,
if he can expand his offensive game as drastically as
he has over the last couple of years, why can't
(55:28):
Jalen Durham do that?
Speaker 1 (55:30):
You know?
Speaker 2 (55:30):
And Durham's only twenty one, so I don't want to
be too hard on him, but I get your point,
and it's a it's a really good one. Speaking of
the Pistons and speaking to the NBA, I don't know
if you saw Victor Webbin Yama last night, but he
he he helped me.
Speaker 5 (55:41):
My bet he was.
Speaker 2 (55:43):
He was unbelievable.
Speaker 7 (55:45):
Yeah, hey, well, voting on betting on vic is almost
a cheat holt. Yeah, this guy's a cheak holt in
the league. Man, he's a two K creative player.
Speaker 8 (55:52):
They may have to make a rule for him soon.
Speaker 1 (55:54):
And this guy's unbelievable.
Speaker 5 (55:55):
That's insane.
Speaker 7 (55:56):
I'm not trying to be hyperbodly, but no, he looks
like a literal two K creator player.
Speaker 12 (56:00):
The players we all sit down and try and creer.
Speaker 2 (56:02):
Somebody said to me last night he might be when
all of a sudden done, he might be a top
flag player of all time. I'm like, okay, hold on
a second. Can can we just let the kid be
a kid for a minute and grow into his his
body a little bit? But then you watch forty and
fifteen you're like, totally crap that, And they're efficient. It's efficient.
I think he's taking forty shots, not James Arden taking
forty shots last night? Seventy two percent? Is that what
(56:24):
he was seventy two. That's unbelievable.
Speaker 8 (56:26):
The craziest thing I saw last night was Klay Thompson
drive on a layup and he bumped off wemban Yama
and it looks like it's a clean finger all layup.
What happens when Wemby glasses it? And I'm like, what
are you even supposed to do in that situation.
Speaker 5 (56:39):
I'll give you one. It's even a wider man, I'll
give you one even more crazy in that he had
three blocks last night. One of the blocks, I can't
remember who the guy was, but he's the four or
four uh Dallas Mavericks with all the hair. Legitimately he
turns around, it's gonna get bunny. This guy's sixtent like
when Miyama was so much tall, and he reaches his
arm up and it looked like when you're playing on
the Fisher Price who your nephews and your nephews switch?
(57:02):
But that's what it looks like.
Speaker 9 (57:03):
A grown man.
Speaker 5 (57:05):
If he came in the studio right now, he tower
over us. And when he made him look like a
Fisher Price, that's fact.
Speaker 9 (57:14):
He grew.
Speaker 5 (57:15):
He'll be the first.
Speaker 2 (57:16):
He grew from last year to this year.
Speaker 5 (57:17):
He grew seven to five. He'll be the first one
to win m v P and Defensive Player of the Year.
I'm not saying this year.
Speaker 2 (57:23):
Yeah, but he'll be.
Speaker 5 (57:24):
He might, he'll be agree potentially.
Speaker 13 (57:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (57:29):
That's why when we had the conversation yesterday and we
heard people talking about Kate Cunningham could be m v P,
I said, look, I hope I see it. I really do.
It'd be fantastic. But then I reeled off the names
who you usually think of. I mean, after watching Victor
webbinana not getting him too hyperbolic. It's one game. Don't
you look at him and go, holy crap. If that
dude gives you half of that on a nightly basis,
(57:51):
you're going to be in the conversation.
Speaker 5 (57:52):
But then also two to your point, this is cooling.
Close your ears on this one when you talk about
the m v PS to why you were hesitanting to
stand at one. They don't wait to jump off the page.
They don't need situations to jump off page. They don't
need Jay and Ivy to be to jump off the page.
They legitimately jump off the page like they will regardless
of what the team is. And obviously it's easier when
(58:12):
you're Shay Gilges Alexander and your team's that good. Or
it's easier when you're Victor Wim Miyama because you're seven five.
But that's the MVP MVPs. Don't wait until here or this,
that and the third the kind of pop quake.
Speaker 2 (58:26):
There are so many good things to talk about that
I want to pick your brain on and get everybody's
thoughts in the chat and here too, including what has happened,
what has happened with in the NBA with Chauncey Phillips
and Terry Rozier and of course a guy we all
know here who played in Detroit and Damon Jones, but
also what Tom Izzo and Calvin Samson and Bill selfall
(58:48):
had to say about what's going on in the NBA
or the G League going back down to Division one
Athletics Louisville, a player going there. But I really want
to get into Braylen's breakdown because that's a staple here Thursdays,
three o'clock. I'm not going to miss it. I don't
expect you to miss it either, So we're going to
have that when we come back. Doctor Pierce will join
(59:10):
us right around three point forty. After Bravelein's breakdown, we
will get into some of the previously mentioned things that
are going on. But first, it would be really good

next best thing is listen to how you get Yeah,

the injuries and the diagnosis coming up now.
Speaker 2 (01:04:31):
Yesterday we had Buddies pizza when we were happy. We
are still smiling because we can remember exactly how enjoyable
it was to have Detroit's original deep dish pizza and
that is Buddies Pizza twenty two locations throughout the state
of Michigan and finding Buddy's Pizza there. That's, oh my god,
that looks so good. Buddy's Pizza near you. They have
(01:04:53):
been a cornerstone in the city of Detroit and Metro
Detroit for seventy nine years and dedicated to the community
and dedicated to get giving you the best value you
can find in Pizza Detroit's original style pizza. Save ten
percent off your entire order, use the promo code ten meal.
That's ten meal, and find the nearest location by going
(01:05:13):

Speaker 5 (01:05:16):
And we bet Buddies Pizza dot Com we were I
thought we were coming back with something else there, sir.
Speaker 2 (01:05:24):
I did too.
Speaker 5 (01:05:25):
Yeah, that's right.
Speaker 2 (01:05:26):
It's it's my favorite part of the show. It's my
favorite part of the week. I'm not gonna lie. It's
because we love learning and now we get an opportunity
to learn more about football.
Speaker 7 (01:05:37):
I want to still give the people. I want to
give the people. This highlight is is rivalry. We we
do got Brailan doing the Brailean's breakdown and uh, you
know what the crew.
Speaker 5 (01:05:46):
Here the team they put.
Speaker 12 (01:05:47):
Together something pretty special's a JB smooth too.
Speaker 7 (01:05:49):
So I want to be able to let the people
see this highlight reel of one missed be easy himself.
Speaker 5 (01:05:58):
We can get it. Oh it's the number one.
Speaker 13 (01:06:02):
See what this is talking about.
Speaker 14 (01:06:12):
Henny on second down and six in overtime, fixed to
Martin fires underneath Edward's on a screen, cutting inside of
the sixteen yard eyed power right. That's Martin mitail back
quick throw out Edwards. He shakes him out at the twenty,
up the sideline, fifteen, bucks him out at the ten,
gets down of the seven and out the mountains.
Speaker 9 (01:06:30):
Michigan.
Speaker 2 (01:06:30):
Get it to a playmaker, you always seventy six.
Speaker 6 (01:06:33):
He did the block, Timmy, and Henny loads up for
Edwards and cut fire and.
Speaker 1 (01:06:38):
Take it.
Speaker 6 (01:06:43):
By what Henny picks it up Edward.
Speaker 9 (01:07:12):
He's all game. Here's Henny back to throw and he
looking and he's firing out a post. Cut Edward's happen
five looks out.
Speaker 15 (01:07:27):
Well, sit back inside on a post and he gets
by Hayes and then breaks over the middle of Henny
through an absolute striking.
Speaker 5 (01:07:53):
With the score the year, where it was at and
what the opponent was a forty one.
Speaker 2 (01:08:01):
I recognize that.
Speaker 13 (01:08:02):
Yeah, that was a great game.
Speaker 5 (01:08:04):
Man. There's no parallel universe, as they say in Marvel,
there's none of that where Michigan doesn't beat the doors
off this Michigan State team. Let's go. I can be
fired up, man, let's go.
Speaker 12 (01:08:25):
Right, let's go.
Speaker 5 (01:08:27):
I'm fired up. I need to chat to go there
and throw some lights.
Speaker 12 (01:08:29):
On the flip down to hype right now. I'm fired
up man too.
Speaker 5 (01:08:33):
I'm about to go to you.
Speaker 2 (01:08:35):
Remember every one of those players.
Speaker 5 (01:08:36):
Don't shout out to JB like that was?
Speaker 16 (01:08:37):
That was.
Speaker 5 (01:08:39):
I could never imagine that it was supposed to be
something that dope. Man. I appreciate you on that. That
that that got me fired up like that. Those those
juices don't go anywhere man, as it relates to the
juices for the rivalry, the juices for the moment. But yeah,
every player, I remember every single play that was yesterday.
I remember the huddle. I remember I got goosebump. I
remember why we called the players because I remember being
on side and like, keep the ball, what are you doing?
(01:09:02):
Mike Hart is going for two hundreds. I can't really complain,
but uh, yeah, that that was magic. It's a magic night.
Speaker 2 (01:09:10):
That that was really well done, put together with some
full sound up and all that. I love. It's tough.
It's tough.
Speaker 12 (01:09:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:09:20):
Actually, I'll be honest with you. That's a good way
to end the show as well. Okay, you put that there.
We end the show that way.
Speaker 15 (01:09:26):
We can also begin tomorrow. I was just gonna say,
we can see the Monday. Yeah, just play it, play
on loop. We'll see have a good week anyway. Uh,
let's get to Braylen's breakdown though. Great stuff again, Thanks
to all those who worked really hard at that. That
is not easy by it takes that takes a long
time to put together. You got to find the footage,
you got to put it in the proper way, you
got to put some music to it, you got to
(01:09:47):
bring the full sound up. That's a hard working job
right there, and they get really good.
Speaker 7 (01:09:51):
We're gonna get to a lot of the other Supertest later.
But I gotta say this one for my guy, Freddie
Felt three and three now.
Speaker 8 (01:09:57):
That video wall same thing. Freddy and I even played
football was watching that.
Speaker 5 (01:10:05):
I'm ready for it.
Speaker 2 (01:10:06):
But Ryan did play basketball last night.
Speaker 5 (01:10:08):
I did, how'd you We'll talk about that in a second,
like Freddie felt Mischian brother was good having a conversation.
Speaker 2 (01:10:13):
Yea, it was fun.
Speaker 5 (01:10:14):
I appreciate that it did the same thing to me,
Like legitimately, I told you I was up in East
Lansing last night, hence the pictures, and you know, the
disrespect to the starting statue. Who cares like that? Energy
comes back when you get towards the week, and you know,
when the week's here, the fall, the leaves on the trees,
they look the same, you know, when you see them
starting to turn. Michigan States around the corner, ladies, gentleman,
(01:10:35):
legitimately is around the corner. That's the same thing I felt,
h you know years ago. One thing we talked about
last night shut was why the Michigan Michigan State rival
is also so huge. It's it's legitimately arrival with us,
like the forty five minutes away, like we're breathing, like
we're breathing the same air, We're looking at the same landscape,
we're in the same space. We're so close as we're practicing,
(01:10:56):
as we're preparing, like legitimately that close the right up
to Michigan State, the blinket of an eye Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:11:03):
It's a couple of songs in the car. That's all
it is. Man and unlike a lot of other rivalries.
By the way, tomorrow on the Britlan Edwards Show, TJ.
Duckett will give us his thoughts on this rivalry. He's
gonna join us at two thirty. Appointment viewing. This has
always been appointment viewing. It's Braylan's breakdown. Let's get after it.
What do we have today?
Speaker 5 (01:11:24):
We saw some of those plays in there, and it's
gonna be funny because Baylor's breakdown actually features breakdown of
well me, I don't like talking to third person, so
we'll break down some of my plays. I know it's
a little grainy. You're gonna have to work with me.
On forty thousand, in the early two thousands.
Speaker 7 (01:11:39):
My high schoolighlight's on vhsy.
Speaker 2 (01:11:44):
What say you might be talking at least my highlights
are on VHS.
Speaker 5 (01:11:48):
This is VHS. He would hate it. First of all,
this is what VHS looks like in twenty twenty five.
That's said.
Speaker 2 (01:11:54):
It's not high death folks, Beta.
Speaker 5 (01:11:56):
It will look like I can't he has tech mobil.
You gotta find me. I'm gonna be up at the top.
You always notice me because I get a good lien.
I like that good lin gis me a fast start.
This is gonna be a go route to forty yard throw.
Roderick Maples, who is a guy, was talking about Oh yeah,
cash Tech high school played against him a little league,
played for the Raiders. Now here we are in college.
(01:12:17):
He's off. You don't necessarily love the go route against
off covers. But you got a receiver that understands closing
the space before you make the move, you can have
some success, some success, Big John Navar, Let's hit snap.
Let's see what we got so right now, my job
is to kill the leverage. You can't see it, so
I'll explain it. My job is to take it, to
(01:12:38):
take the route straight at the DV. Make him think
I'm running the go route, not make any ways. Not
do this like I'm faking here. Not do this like
I'm faking here. Close his cushion and then turn so
I closed the cushion on him. Hit play.
Speaker 2 (01:12:51):
Are you the first option here?
Speaker 5 (01:12:53):
I'm always the first option. Sorry, but being respectful, Yes,
on this play, I am the first option. Hit play.
You'll see what I do. At the top of the route.
This is a little trick. So the dB tries to
put his hand on me right here. You can't see it.
He tries to put his arm on me. I swatted
it down. Swatt it down, knock it down, knock him
off pace. And then oh that was okay, shut up,
(01:13:16):
you know what I'm saying. Here we go back copy,
you'll see it a little better. Big throw by big
John LaVar. That's my guy's my quarterback in the words
the t o. You get a little hype right there,
celebrate with the big fellas. All right, here we go.
You see it right here. Now watch you try to
put his hand on me. I knock it down. I
knocked it down, knocked him off pace. Always look up
when the balls in the air and the quarterback's going
to go route. You see a lot of guys when
(01:13:37):
they're running the rout. Shut they're running and then they
look back here. There's nothing coming for you there, there's nothing.
There's a forty yard throw the balls up. So when
you turn, you look up, you find the ball, you
catch it. That's exactly what I did. Watch it the turn,
Get your hand off me.
Speaker 2 (01:13:53):
It's actually pretty good coverage breaking up at a pretty
good coverage. This is a hell of a catch and
a hell of a throw.
Speaker 5 (01:13:59):
It's a hell of a throw. It was a hell
of a throat, but it was technique. Rewind it just
a little bit. When I gotta go stand it too long,
rewind it a little bit. Remember what I always said
about keeping space for the numbers, keeping space for the
go ball, like John, Technically, I love you John. The
ball should be out there on the numbers. If he
throws out there, I walk into the end zone and
stride towards the pilot. John threw it on the inside,
(01:14:22):
But just throw me to do up ball, John, I
can care less, So it's a make play. It's very
good coverage until the end hit play. Right when I
swat his hand down is when you know it's I
get ahead. Now I'm ahead. I look up and I
look for the high point where the ball is. There's
no way you can stop. Yep, too little, get off
(01:14:43):
of me. Ugh, this is nasty. I got the high
white socks with the chowpat straps. That is transh but
can't say anything with the guy's end zone. Give me
the next play, tut and then also told the spartan mascot,
which is one of the best in the country. You
gotta be quiet when the Michigan Wolf rings are working.
All right, next play. I know this was Granny too.
This is gonna be fun. This is me talking stuff
(01:15:04):
and this is the best throw.
Speaker 2 (01:15:05):
It's a three white set.
Speaker 5 (01:15:08):
This is Michigan weird.
Speaker 1 (01:15:10):
I know.
Speaker 5 (01:15:11):
In the midst of Chris Peigan fifty three carries. We
threw the ball a little bit as well. John drops back.
Speaker 2 (01:15:17):
What's the defense here?
Speaker 5 (01:15:18):
First ring will be on this side. Tell you Jason
should be the first rd on this play. Okay, this
is this is quarters across? Yeah, all right him, play
up top. I'm up at the very top. This is
a great throw. I just let it play out. I
won't say too much. I stayed on the numbers, boom
playing it. Look at this throw. Wait till you see
(01:15:38):
it from the back. You can't see much on that.
You can see me talking stuff. Look, I'm always gonna
talk to you know what. Yeah, I told you, Sorry,
you know what. Blah blah blah blah blah. We're gonna
get it from the back. Copy watch this throw, all right,
I mean eat up Roger maple. Why did they have
Roger Maples, check me, I mean, eat up this coverage.
Hit play. You gotta eat up the coverage. Get the coverage,
(01:16:00):
the coverage. Now hit stop, hit pause. This is This
is called trust. This is called trust. Look at this.
This is this is Tim massacret. This is a touchdown.
This is the open play, the first down, the touchdown.
But big John Devar, when you have trust, which is earned,
much like I'm alright, Saint Brown, Jared Goff, you just
(01:16:23):
throw it. Safety is buzzing on it, corners sitting on it. However,
John still throws it. Just watch this throw. Watch this ball.
You can hit it. Shoot, look at that throw like
I'm talking about. He just has his hands up. I've
already caught it. The safety didn't know where it's going.
(01:16:44):
He's turning the opposite way. He blue contain and one
Indians on what another window man. But I told you
I played the villain. I'm el Babiyaga. Hit play the
whole time. After the catch, I just want to talk
you know what I want to talk to you. You
can't see it now anyway. Oh no, you can say
on the first play, this one right here here, this yep,
(01:17:06):
let it roll, Let it roll. Let it roll, Let
it roll. I'm talking the whole way. You sorry, son
of it. Blah blah blah. I can't believe I tried
to run that defense, you trash. And I'm gonna be
up here to night. Talk all to your girls. I'm
be up here to night. Take all your girls too,
all right, next one, this is this is fun, all right,
here we go. This is the game. Everybody always asks
me about. This game. This is a game. Three touchdowns
(01:17:28):
coming back, six minutes left, seventeen points. This one is
the tire. This is the This is the tire, all right.
This one's for tie kick score. This will be the
second touchdown in the fourth quarter. Hit play, it's man,
the man up top. I don't know why they had
this guy on me legitimate Hit play, hit pause. Let
me let me break it down. Coming into this game, shop,
(01:17:52):
I was no one actually coming into the season. There
was no one why I received in the country right
coming into the season. He was a converted run. I
ain't back Jared Hayes. He led Michigan State and rushing
the year before. So my senior year, I'm legitimately preseason
number one. At this point, I've got the stats to
(01:18:12):
match it. You allowed this man to check me one
on one.
Speaker 2 (01:18:15):
You took that personal.
Speaker 5 (01:18:16):
That's why john Nel Smith got fired. Ain't no way
in hell you allow a running back to check the
number one wide receive in the country. Okay, good coverage.
I digress hit play. You don't know what you're doing.
I just took the leverage from him. I'm not gonna
play like that. He's so worried about me. I'm looking
at the ball the whole time. But they talk about
(01:18:37):
high pointing the ball. When they talk about high pointing
to catch, you gotta go before the dB gos. You
get yourself in the air before the dB gos, and
you give yourself a better ass to catch it or
get the pass interference. Rewind it just a little bit,
Ryan Like, look when I jumped like he's legit.
Speaker 2 (01:18:54):
Charge it out with good coverage. Actually, and now he
just didn't adjust like you did.
Speaker 5 (01:18:59):
Better player. Yeah, hip by the time he gets that
was a week vertical. But by the time he gets yeah,
by time he gets off the ground, I'm already in there. Yeah,
I'm already catching the ball coming down. Tie ball game.
With one minute, forty five secents. We almost won. This
in regulation.
Speaker 2 (01:19:15):
Can we talk about the selly for just a minute.
I mean, everybody's coming to you. The big fella's Chattanny.
You're walking away from everybody.
Speaker 5 (01:19:22):
Because I'm in the zone, because I'm in his zone.
Like we legitimately were down seventeen points with six minutes
left the game.
Speaker 2 (01:19:28):
I mean, I understand why the band. You're leaving the band,
but there's the big fella.
Speaker 5 (01:19:31):
Get off me.
Speaker 2 (01:19:32):
Here comes chet Hanny. Get away from me.
Speaker 5 (01:19:34):
Because it's not about celebrating. I'm in a moment, like
we just tied the game. Game's not over. There's a
minute forty five seconds left in this game. We've come back.
Look save the celebrations for skeeps or touchdowns or ricks
after the game. We got a game to win, and
we almost lost this game. But keyword almost. So that's
a tut. That's the infamous picture. Love it in his
zone right now, I crowta get off and relax. Come on,
(01:19:56):
because I mean, you're a senior. When you understand the moment,
you understand what's going You expected them. We got more, Yeah,
we got more to go. So this one was a
great great, great team effort. Team when the highlight obviously
is on me. But it was a great team when
loved my brothers and arms saw some of them this week.
But this isn't the only amazing performance in Michigan Michigan
(01:20:18):
state history. I got eight excuse me, I have nine
other ones to go along.
Speaker 2 (01:20:22):
You know what surprised me about that place you finished?
I thought Ryan was gonna finish it. But that's okay.
You leap early, like you're in the air for a
long time before the ball comes down. Okay, you're leaping. Yeah,
it's that's a lot of hangtime right here. And you
really appreciate it when you watch it a couple of times.
Speaker 5 (01:20:42):
Appreciate that. I just studied Randy Moss, Like my favorite
ibs here was Randy. Excuse me was Jay Rice got
me into the game. But once Randy Moss came out,
once it was and you start mossing people, and you
see that his ability to high point the football. I
just paid attention to him, and you practiced it and
practicing and practicing until you gets and there you go.
Speaker 2 (01:21:01):
Yeah, and that really doesn't do it justice either, because
I mean, it doesn't look like you're high off the
ground there, and you are. You're super high and at
least with Randy Mosh you didn't, you know, pretend like
you're moon in the crowd. So that's good for you.
When we come back and we want to get to
those okay, let's do that, and then yeah, that is
a disgusting act. And then we're going to get to
(01:21:22):
doctor Jeffrey Pierce. He will join us. We want to
get into the gambling situation in the NBA as well.
And what time is ohead to say? If we have time?
It was it was damning and he was hot on
and so was Calvin Samson. Bill self was okay. He
just didn't look like he completely wanted to go all in.

And we back, and we back. We got docum parts.
So we wanna finish going through. Now what I wanna do?
I'm wanna talk about some other elite performances in this rival,
because on both sides there have been individuals that have
turned it up. I'm not gonna get to talk about everybody,
cause we can go as far back as Tom Harmon
if you want to. Three touchdowns, two hundred yards totes.
(01:28:33):
But the great Ghost, the grade ninety eight was nineteen forty.
So we'll try to keep a little more uh recent.
Here we go first, and we'll talk about Plassville Birds,
a friend of mine, and he had seventeen second. I
always have to tell him that he had seventeen afterbe
but the only thing yet was lights out. I went
to the game.
Speaker 2 (01:28:50):
It was nineteen ninety nine.
Speaker 5 (01:28:52):
As you see, it was EA east Lanson. He was
so dominant in this game. Two hundred and fifty five yards.
Speaker 12 (01:28:58):
Let okay, let's check that mic, Yeah, one touchdown.
Speaker 2 (01:29:01):
He's talking about plexical Burris, who's a good friend of his,
had to wear number seventeen. But second braylen Ward.
Speaker 5 (01:29:09):
First Praxice guy practice, my guy. I was at this game,
legitimately sitting on the Michigan sidland, probably around the forty
fifty yard line. What he did was just ridiculous. He
dominated the whole game that two fifty five for like
five hundred yards. Todd Howard, who was one of our
start in DB's you see where he's at. That's where
he was at the whole game. It got so bad
at one point that Dave Terrell, who was a freshman
(01:29:32):
wide receiver, also wore number one. Also the number one
excuse me a first round draft pick Carolina Chicagogo. Chicago
moves in with the Carolina. They legitimately put Dave Terrell
on Plexical birds because Dave Terrell sixty three. Dave Terrell's
two eighteen Plaxico Birds is sixty five praaticus tick thirty.
It'll work well. He destroyed Dave Terrell to and then
(01:29:53):
Lloyd infamously on the satelline. Hey, hey, here's solid there.
That's how cold Plexico first was. And he did the
same thing in the league. You song the slint and
goal to win the Super Bowl on the slugo. Plax
deserves everything. He got it this game. He just look
at him easy to Yeah he was. He was when
they say man child, it's reserved for individuals like Plax,
(01:30:16):
go bird.
Speaker 2 (01:30:17):
I love the big physical research.
Speaker 5 (01:30:18):
Yeah, and could move a little bit too. He was
deceptive numbering there all right, here we go. Who's number
two coming up? What we got? What we got? Who
we got? JJ McCarthy. This was two thousand and twenty three,
twenty twenty three, the National Championship run. You know what
time it is. Finally he got a big passing day,
two hundred and eighty nine yards, four touchdowns for JJ. Now,
(01:30:40):
the Minnesota Vikings backup quarterback did his thing in this game.
When I love about so much because this is after
you know what came out. This is after all the problems.
This is after all the stuff with the cheating and
the Conder stallions, and then Michigan State has a whole
snap food on the scoreboard in this game. You guys,
remember that little little you remember that. I remember, Okay,
(01:31:01):
there we go, we'll leave it there. But this was that,
and they talked about we don't even want to play Michigan.
Is it that you don't want to play because we cheers,
that you don't want to play this because you're not good?
Well we found out what it was. Forty nine zip.
That game's over. But I figured all my Michigan fans
that occurrent. Here's JJ two hundred eighty nine four touchdown. Wow,
who we got next up here?
Speaker 13 (01:31:20):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (01:31:20):
This is a whole Heisman Trophy finalist, the big fella,
lorene Zoe White. You asked your uncles, you asked your fathers,
you asked him about this guy in East Lansy. Lorenzo
White was a problem, most notably what he did in
the Rose Bowl. He took it to a new level.
Lorenzo White was a monster this particular game though one
hundred and ninety yards, two touchdowns, and on twenty five
(01:31:44):
carries even had twenty yards receiving over two hundred yards
total yards of scrimmage. He was a monster. He was
a beast. His right tackle was number two in the
NFL draft in the year you remember Tony Managers, the
year they drafted various Sanders.
Speaker 2 (01:31:58):
He went number did the Lions of big time favorite
Troy Aikman. Tony Mandrich Berry Sanders, Dion Sanders.
Speaker 5 (01:32:07):
Sanders, Sanders, back to back for you, Lorenzo White, leg
the infamous he Heim and all those things. Lorenzo White's
probably the greatest running back in Michigan state history in
terms statistically.
Speaker 2 (01:32:17):
Yeah, it's pretty tough to beat him.
Speaker 5 (01:32:20):
So like for the young Bucks, look him up. I
know the jersey looks a little old, the shoulder pass
looked a little high, but I guarantee the stats and
the film checks out.
Speaker 2 (01:32:29):
Then played for your dad's team in the NFL.
Speaker 5 (01:32:33):
All right, what we got next?
Speaker 2 (01:32:35):
So I put him on here.
Speaker 5 (01:32:36):
We just talked. We just said we were gonna bring
him on the show tomorrow. We'll let him talk about
this game in his own words. He's a friend of mine.
He's the most athletic person I've ever seen, especially at
that size. When I was in high school, I was
a freshman year. I saw him his senior year. I
saw him at a track meet. I want Lloyd Norris
and he lay Norris. But he came down to indoor
meet at University of Michigan. It was a high school uh,
(01:32:57):
the high school championships. Legitimately, I watched this TJ Ducket.
Who oh, by the way, besides the stiff farm and
John Shaw, Sorry about that, John, two hundred and eight
yards this game one touchdown. That touchdown was the game
winning touchdown. I saw him chop in one track meet.
I saw him win the sixty meter dash. Let that
sink in. He's two forty at six foot right there.
(01:33:17):
I saw him win the sixty meter dash. I proceeded
to watch him win the shot put. Tell me people
that are winning the shot put and the sixty just
let that sink in. Who win in the shot put
and the sprint?
Speaker 2 (01:33:29):
Tyron Whitley is the only guy composibly.
Speaker 5 (01:33:31):
He wouldn't win the shot put, but but sprints for sure. Yea,
but this dude was a cold, cold pieas second round
draft to Atlanta Falcons in the first good for you.
First person I knew that was in the music video. Yo,
it's hiding here with Nelly. He's in that video. Who
we got next? We'll talk to him tomorrow. Mike Hart,
Mike Heart could be on here twice. And if you
(01:33:52):
want to talk about the totality in two years, no
one did with Mike did my senior year two hundred
and twelve yards. Excuse me, d Lessex two hundred and
twenty one yards, one touchdown. That's why when people say
the Breakley game, I'm like, Michael was doing his thing too,
And then what does he do after that? He says
the little brother comment, what does he back it up with?
(01:34:14):
The following year? Two hundred and fifteen yards, another touchdown
and another win in overtime. The man had four hundred
and thirty plus yards and two touchdowns and two four
technical overtimes against Michigan State. Like who else has done that?
This is when I say, my little brother, this is
my this is my guy. Yeah. So Mike car he
(01:34:35):
turned up and always had a smile.
Speaker 2 (01:34:36):
He was such a good college football running back.
Speaker 5 (01:34:39):
He's really great.
Speaker 2 (01:34:41):
Just because you're not a star in the NFL doesn't
mean you can't be a start at the collegiate level.
And he was a really good example of that. So
what he wasn't a great pro that dude was a
great college player.
Speaker 5 (01:34:52):
When you mentioned, like what I judge players by is
how you doing rivalries. You go to East Lanston and
you mention his name as much as they hate him,
This is what I even respect about Michigan State for
all the people that hate Mike Hart for the comments,
for all the people that hate you for the game.
When they talk to you, they say, man, blah blah blah,
but I respected you. Like they say all that about
Mike cart he started the little brother.
Speaker 2 (01:35:12):
They would have wanted him on their team.
Speaker 5 (01:35:14):
That part. Mike Cartt loved you to death. Here we go.
Who we got?
Speaker 2 (01:35:19):
Oh, come on, maybe one of the greatest college football
players ever.
Speaker 5 (01:35:25):
Seriously, right, shut, I'm legitimately sitting I'm legitimately sitting ten
rolls up in this area watching a quarterback. I know
the game. At this time, I'm sitting there with my dad.
My dad's talking about the game. Had this play. He's like,
they probably just throw the ball away. They throw the
ball up and all you see is a hand reaching
(01:35:47):
from out of nowhere.
Speaker 2 (01:35:48):
Like this is what it was.
Speaker 5 (01:35:50):
This arm reaching out of nowhere makes this interception. Fast
forward when you watch Burke, who is the quarterback to
this interception. B This is his sophomore year, he started
a quarterback. When they interviewed him, he said, I was
just trying to throw the ball away get the third down,
he said, and all of a sudden, I saw a
hand he said, and he called it. I saw clear
(01:36:11):
as day from the pocket. He said, that was the
greatest player I've ever seen. And you know what, I agree.
We talk about the House State punk return. This is
the play that took him from third in the Heisman
behind Leif and Peyton to first in the Heisman. And
he had another interception in this game, by the way,
and then he never relinquished the league. So the the
(01:36:33):
Ohio State punt return also he had an interception that
game was the coupdi gras. Best player in Michigan history.
It is what it is.
Speaker 2 (01:36:40):
Can I just hear one thing? It might have been
Todd Schultz, not Bill Burke Shults. It is shows.
Speaker 5 (01:36:44):
It is showing Burke.
Speaker 2 (01:36:45):
Bill Burke was number sixteen. I think he plaid out.
Speaker 5 (01:36:49):
He's plas. Yeah, he's placks quarterback. Yeah. Best player in
Michigan history. And to me, it's not close because he
proceeded to do the same thing in the NFL, and
you can do it at two levels. That's when you
get different conversations, like when you can be that dominant,
that great different conversation. Right, who we got who's up next? Hey,
it's my boy, Chris Parry was on the team. We
(01:37:11):
showed you that Greeny game that you had to desciper
through what was going on. Well, he was the real
start of that game. I had two touchdowns, so did he.
But he also had fifty three carries for two hundred
and eight yards. Let that sink in. You know how
tiring exhaust you got to be a carried about fifty
three times in the code in this type of rivalry.
He did it with a smile on his face and
(01:37:32):
it was one of those ones where you just take
your hat off to an individual, like at the end
of the game. It was like, you did that, like
cause I can't carry about fifty three times?
Speaker 2 (01:37:42):
Yeah, like not many people can't.
Speaker 5 (01:37:45):
Twenty passes in the code. All right, go somebody else,
somebody I got my yards. We're gonna win. Fifty three
yards for Chris Parry. He for Heisman finalists. We talked
about Hisan finals. Goes to the high did that? He
went to the Highs and Carson Palmer ends up winning
if it. Gerald finished second, He finished third, and I
forgot who finished fourth because it doesn't matter. All right, next,
(01:38:06):
Big Chris Perry, speaking the running backs, I told you
when you talk about this rivalry. The running backs rule
this rivalry. There's a couple of receivers here and there,
shamonga Biakabatuca. His most notable game, by the way, cold
is named in the history of sports touchdown till aka
two touchdown till anyway. The Ohio State game this year,
(01:38:28):
nineteen ninety four, three hundred and thirteen yards and I
always remember it because well, I'm born and raised in
Detroit three thirteen. But this game wasn't bad. One ninety five,
eighteen carries, two touchdowns.
Speaker 2 (01:38:40):
Beat him forty to twenty.
Speaker 5 (01:38:41):
He's fastest out on the board for big fella. He
had the best feet that I've ever seen, really for
like a big guy. His feet were electric. Chris Perry
had really good feet too. All right, who we got?
Speaker 8 (01:38:50):
Now?
Speaker 5 (01:38:50):
Do we have your top two? By huh?
Speaker 12 (01:38:52):
Your top two?
Speaker 5 (01:38:53):
All right? Top two? Give me no no, no switch
it switches. Get to go in order. Now. I want
mine to be number one. But I'm an honest person.
I said the top ten performances, so I'm gonna say
top performances. I gotta be honest. This is number two.
We beat Michigan State one hundred and eighty yards, three touchdowns,
blah blah blah. They were eleven in the country. We
(01:39:14):
were thirteen. We took that over or that was the
year before. Anyway, hell of a performance. But go to
number one. Listen to watch what K nine did in
this game. I watched this closely. This was Michigan was
coming back. We'll first just started doing the show. I
was excited for what Michigan was doing. Didn't think much
of Michigan State mel tuck or Tuck come and Tuck
(01:39:36):
gone the whole nine yards. What he did in this
game was special. Five touchdowns. But Shepard's not just a
five touchdown. His offensive lines trash. And I know you're like,
how can you say that? Every move he made was
a cutback move, like over pursued. Michigan will over pursue.
He would go back to the opposite way. He fought
and claw for everything he got that game. One hundred
and ninety one yards, two hundred plus total screen, five touchdowns.
(01:40:01):
Five When you have Sinco touchdout Hassan Askins against Ohio State,
it's unparallel. So for him to have that in a
rivalry game to where they both were finally unranked. So
the game was like the game of old even more
and he did this. It's the greatest performance in that
game in my eyes.
Speaker 2 (01:40:20):
And on top of that, I believe correct me if
I'm wrong here. Both teams were top ten. Both teams
were defeated.
Speaker 5 (01:40:25):
Going to Michigan Michigan three or four or Michigan State seven,
so they both were in the top seven.
Speaker 2 (01:40:30):
You see a future lion in the background.
Speaker 5 (01:40:33):
I will say this. I'm not saying asterisk. I'm not
playing that game. He did his stay, the sack, strip, fumble,
touchdown they took away from him. Criminal, It was absolutely criminal.
But I digress. It's not about eight and hundred because
guess what he did get to New York. He did
K nine and he's the number one performance that I've
seen with my own two eyes. And a runner up
(01:40:55):
was Andrew Anthony, who were number one for a little
time trains This warts Oklahoma because he too had one
hundred and eighty yards at Michigan State and two touchdowns
and ane touchdown exactly and the fight would be my
runner up.
Speaker 2 (01:41:09):
And the five touchdowns are the most of Michigan has
ever given up to one individual player. That's breakdown. Really
good stuff always appreciated. I love it. Doctor Jeffrey Pierce
will join us on the other side. First this can

Speaker 5 (01:44:53):
Like a ball, sorry now looking like a ball like
a yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:44:56):
Got a He's got a poker game going on back there,
all right. Hey, we talked about it, Doc.
Speaker 5 (01:45:05):
Right now.
Speaker 2 (01:45:06):
Crazy timing, yeah, bad timing. We saw the We saw
the impact that Alee McNeil had. You have kept us
updated on the progress of a guy who goes through
what he went through with his knee. What surprised your
most about his effectiveness and maybe more importantly, the fact
that he played forty four snaps in that game, because
I think that's as stunning as statistics as anything else.
Speaker 17 (01:45:29):
I think it blows it away. And I'll call myself
out on this. I told you he's gotta be at
least two games of not three games to really get
his rhythm.
Speaker 5 (01:45:36):
This guy has rhythm.
Speaker 17 (01:45:37):
Before the game started, I mean, he he was a force.
I know we did some isolated looking at him. How
he's taking two guys on pushing, the pushing the whole line,
and you didn't see him. There was no hiccup at
all with them. He was more powerful than I would
have predicted. And when he said when he told all
of us, I'm ready to play, I think he was
(01:45:59):
ready to play. And I think that emotional part just
got him so fired up. He was a major impact
for sure. So McNeil, I mean, hats off again. I
love giving credit to the medical team and the training team,
but they did an excellent job getting him back and
being a force for the Lions on that front line.
(01:46:21):
And what a different simm and Hutch you know, the rushing.
I mean, they just disrupted that whole phenomenal Tampa Bay
offense for sure, and he played a major role.
Speaker 5 (01:46:32):
I thought, yeah, used the best word possible. Lea McNeil
is known as the disruptor, and if you watch that game,
you gotta take your hat off to one the medical staff,
which you got to take your head up to Lee
McNeil as well, because to do what he does in
the trenches in terms of the type of pressure that
he's putting on his knees and legs and the movements
and the things to be able to forty four snaps
play against that take two individuals on at the time,
so you clear it for Jack Campbell, the guy next year.
(01:46:53):
It was a tremendous performance, no doubt by him. My
question is about Mike Evans switching just a little bit good,
not even a him string side of things. It's more
so like the clavigal that he broke in the game.
Doc I asked the question, and the question was about
the field turf at Ford Field. You see this injury.
You've seen a lot of injuries. Field turf has come
up in the past. Rightfully, so does an injury like
(01:47:15):
Mike evans clavico being broken on that play which he
came down pretty hard directly on it is it what
did it happen regardless or does the field turf play
a role in that? And also does a field play
a role in some of the injuries that we've seen
over the last three years of the lines.
Speaker 17 (01:47:32):
You know, that's been a debate ever since we started
doing field turfs, and we're putting different materials in it,
we're playing with it. You know, there's a lot of
signs behind that field turf he had. He I think
it was just an unfortunate moment. I don't think the
field turf has anything to do with that. I actually
thought the beginning the football kind of got caught between
(01:47:52):
and the ground and it's clavicle, that's what happened. But
the ball was already out. It looks like a direct
impact to that shoulder. As I think it was just
an unfortunate movement. I don't think the field turf mattered.
The guy laid out the guy, you know, Evans has
unbelievable talent. He kind of laid out there. He wanted
to catch that ball and he was defenseless against the ground.
(01:48:15):
He didn't brace himself at all, and when he took
that impact to the shoulder, it's just something had a gift.
So again, the clavicle from the shoulder to like the
sternum the middle right below yourd your throat there, that's
the bone that that kind of holds in that whole place.
And sometimes the claviical is not it's important. Compare it
to the fibula and in the lower leg, where it's
(01:48:37):
a meaningless bone. But the clavical has a structure that
holds that anatomy between the shoulder out. So it's a
fragile bone. It's easily fractured. My daughter actually had a
terrible fracture with it. So unfortunately, you know, he's not
gonna be back this season. But it's just an unfortunate event.
I don't think it was turf related, And originally I
(01:48:59):
thought the football guy pinned in there.
Speaker 5 (01:49:01):
I don't think that was it either.
Speaker 17 (01:49:02):
I think it's just that direct blow with him being
he didn't really protect himself in that fall. He kind
of took that full fall on the shoulder.
Speaker 5 (01:49:11):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (01:49:11):
So but the bottom line is, there are a lot
of NFL players recently, and some of it bless you.
Some of the are is grass related. Cam Heyward was
frustrated with the Pittsburgh Cleveland game I believe on their turf,
but a lot of players have been outspoken about NFL
surfaces and I don't think it's going anywhere. I think
it's going to continue. Can you give us an idea
(01:49:34):
of the punishment on the body that an artificial turf
does to players and why it's so dangerous.
Speaker 17 (01:49:44):
You know, there's so much science behind it. There's a
lot more cushions. So what they're saying is it's a
harder surface. You're hitting it harder. It's running on almost
running on concrete at times. I think between the shoewear
and the different shoewear that we're doing, they're doing a
lot of things are protected and each year, I would
say almost each year, they keep changing the formula for
(01:50:06):
that turf. But no, it's our harder surface. It's it's
running on a harder surface. So you're seeing a lot
more injuries. It's also the way they're training too, could
be contributing off. So, I mean there's too many hamstring injuries,
There's too many others other stuff going on. You know,
is there too many acls because of turf? And when
we look at the ACL injuries on the Lions, I
(01:50:29):
don't know if I can blame the turf, when your
foot's getting locked in and there's no giveaway, that's the
biggest reason we pick on the turf where there's those
ankle injuries, those knee injuries, those hip injuries, and we're
seeing a little more give. But back in the day,
your foot would get locked in with those cleats and
it wouldn't give. And when you got three hundred pound force,
which turns into nine hundred pounds of force coming at you,
(01:50:52):
when these guys are full fully engaged, that's a lot.
If your foot's not giving away and it's planted, that's
the injuries really coming up.
Speaker 2 (01:51:01):
Yeah, I think, especially like with Thelik Neighbors, I mean,
the concussions are a big deeper. One more thing before
we let you go. The NFL Players Association a year
ago they said ninety two percent of the players prefer
to play on grass. Why do you think that and
why do you think the NFL isn't adhering to what
(01:51:21):
would appear to be better for players bodies?
Speaker 17 (01:51:28):
You know, I'm not saying it's a business, but it
is a business. Grass is a harder upkeep. I mean,
we won't get into the nature of it but I
tell you grass has more give, right, there's more give
to the grass. Your your foot's moving, it's not getting
locked in. It's not an artificial turf to that. So
(01:51:48):
I think that's a little bit more of the reason.
But when you talk about concussion, you're talking about how
they're hitting it. There is a there's a hard surface underneath.
There is there enough cushion. When you talk about natural grass,
you don't have any other surface underneath. There's this if
you've ever seen ford Field pulled up, I mean there's
(01:52:08):
you know, for concerts and stuff that we do, that's
cement under there. And how much cushion do we have
do we need to add to it?
Speaker 5 (01:52:15):
Does it?
Speaker 17 (01:52:16):
If we add too much, then it's like you're sitting
in a sponge. It's there's a give and take. And
I think they're still working out with the science of
what the perfect formula is. And believe me, the the
NFL is very in tune to eliminating injuries and there's
a there's a whole medical team for the NFL to
consult to reduce that. Especially with concussions. You have the
(01:52:36):
independent neurologists, the third party guy that has nothing to
do with the team there. They're taking the precaution, so
I can't I can't point a strong finger at the
NFL for not being conscious of it. I think it's
just a work in progress, and it's definitely better than
it was two years to five years and ten years.
Speaker 5 (01:52:53):
A fair so they are that progress.
Speaker 2 (01:52:55):
Don't think it's good enough? Fair enough? I appreciate it. Okay.
Speaker 17 (01:52:59):
I have a big, a big fan here. So I'm
in Tennessee right now, you guys as I'm in.
Speaker 5 (01:53:04):
Where am I?
Speaker 17 (01:53:05):
Yeah, Clarksville, Tennis.
Speaker 5 (01:53:06):
I Usnesse. This is the first time I didn't guess
and it was Tennessee. That's right.
Speaker 17 (01:53:12):
So we're gonna be at Nashville. Shout out to UH
Detroit Cowboy Reservations there tonight thanks to Bob Place, We're
gonna have that. We're gonna have a great UH dinner there.
But Adrians a huge football fan. I told him what
I did. I told him I got to, you know,
cut the meetings short to get on this this UH
our show today. So he's like, he's all about San Francisco.
(01:53:36):
I told him how we covered Birdie's toe injury and
nobody people didn't really care that much In Detroit. So yeah,
he's a big Braylen Edwards fan too.
Speaker 19 (01:53:46):
And I watched Braylen from the get all the way
till he finished up.
Speaker 5 (01:53:49):
I watched Cowboys Detroit, you name it. I appreciate that
that man. It's a lot of low cowboys. We name
it why the Cowboys this year?
Speaker 19 (01:53:56):
That's your squat it an was probably it's nineteen ninety
is when I first, you know, turned on the TV.
Speaker 17 (01:54:03):
They were on there and the star just kind of
popped for.
Speaker 5 (01:54:05):
Me sonety three, which one, I'll tell you.
Speaker 19 (01:54:12):
It was nineteen ninety I was like seven years old,
turned on the TV.
Speaker 5 (01:54:16):
The star kind of is what what did it for me?
Speaker 19 (01:54:18):
And from that point forward it just kind of kind
of grew from there.
Speaker 2 (01:54:21):
How do you feel about your favor How do you
feel about your owner being an idiot?
Speaker 5 (01:54:25):
Oh? Oh my god. I could go all day about that.
Speaker 19 (01:54:29):
Let's I don't know how much time you guys have,
but Jerry, Jerry needs to go. I mean, and I
think it's a comment. It's a common feeling among the fans.
But you know, we understand football is a business and
sometimes we just got to kind of sit back and
enjoy what we can.
Speaker 2 (01:54:43):
It's the right attitude. It is it's exactly what you're
supposed to do. It's it's glad you have the perspective. Doc.
It's great to see you and good to meet you too.
You guys have a great weekend, all right, enjoy it
all right, take care of all. Appreciate Doctor Jeffrey Berris
hopefully will be in meet next week for us here
on the Brilin Edwards show Boy Show flew by. I
(01:55:05):
had so much to get to, but that first segment first, wow,
man was it was so much fun. So my apologies,
we haven't.
Speaker 5 (01:55:13):
You got a lot of super chats though, all right,
so why.
Speaker 2 (01:55:15):
Don't you get into that and then if we've got
anything in the mail bag, and then we got to
make room for the heavyweights, otherwise they'll sit on us.
Speaker 12 (01:55:22):
All.
Speaker 5 (01:55:25):
Shout out to all the people that's happening with wover
sports and they can try it. But an energy that
we got from that Michigan State savment, I'm ready.
Speaker 2 (01:55:31):
For or you're a lot faster than I am.
Speaker 7 (01:55:32):
Go ahead by you crossed that and the Breidler's Breakdown
as well as the top ten performances and you know
what the chat was on one today as well, they
reached our first light goals.
Speaker 5 (01:55:42):
We can't let's keep if you haven't smashed that light.
But make sure you're going ahead and do a lot
of good content today.
Speaker 7 (01:55:48):
But uh, let's see here Charles in the chat. He
did in a lot of super chats today, So we're
gonna just go through his first four. He's obviously number one,
first four, the first one, two.
Speaker 2 (01:55:59):
Three, four, Okay, here we go, let's go.
Speaker 12 (01:56:04):
Charl says, don't burn down the priests temple. He put
that in quotes.
Speaker 5 (01:56:09):
I don't know what that was talking about. He's talking
about the statue exactly. You can just leave that up there.
Then he says, this is the problem with MSU.
Speaker 7 (01:56:22):
This is the game for them. You of him, it's
just another game. Yes, it's a rivalry, but they don't
focus their whole season on it. And he also continues
in his other five dollars super chat while I'm on it,
if they both focused on os U, guess who would
guess who'd be up to expanded National games playoffs never
make it, O s U, they'd have too guaranteed LS.
Speaker 5 (01:56:45):
I don't know about all that, but I will say
it does matter when you make the emphasis on the game.
Remember when Jim Harbaugh took over and he he most
noy came out and said, I don't put emphasis on
the house State. It's just a regular game. And boy
was he wrong. I remember he lost and lost and
lost and lost. He changed mentality in twenty twenty one.
You guys are hilarious. Change his mentality in twenty twenty one.
But he put the emphasis on the game. You started
(01:57:06):
seeing the things that Lloyd had done in the past,
where you know, what do you do to beat Ohio
State today? Here's the clock, here's the counter. This is
an extra period during the week where we focus solely
on Ohio State. He started doing those things. And now
look at how the rivalry is. Michigan controls the rivaly,
but Michigan understands and feels the rivalry, whereas Ohio State
is like it is what it is. We get to
(01:57:26):
the National Championship regardless and get to the league.
Speaker 2 (01:57:28):
So yeah, good stuff, man, all right?
Speaker 7 (01:57:30):
More, Yeah, definitely, And then he sent in another one.
This went about the Detroit Pistons. He's not too out
on kay. He said he never plays k Cunningham on
a pedestal Pistons worked best as a team, not a
team built.
Speaker 5 (01:57:41):
Around one superstar.
Speaker 12 (01:57:42):
To be honest, in my opinion, he doesn't believe k Cunningham.
Speaker 2 (01:57:46):
Is one strongly disagree with that. I think he's a
guy you do build around. I think he's a guy
who can take over games by himself. I think he
has an all around game. I want the ball in
his hands more often times than not. I think he
is one of those guys that every coaching staff game
plans against. I think he is a superstar, and I'm
glad he's a Piston. That doesn't necessarily mean that he's
(01:58:07):
in the MVP conversation.
Speaker 12 (01:58:08):
There's one thing that doesn't mean that there's not room
for improvement either.
Speaker 2 (01:58:11):
Everybody has room for improvement, even you do.
Speaker 5 (01:58:14):
Yeah, yeah, se. The one thing I would say about
that is is I want to see how they respond
now that everyone knows that they're a good team. I
want to see how they respond. That's fair, because it's
one thing when no one's checking for you. It's one
thing where people are not even playing their stars against
you until they realize you're good. But by then it's
already it's already February March and you're doing your things
(01:58:36):
and you've gotten good. Now that everyone knows, that's Detroit.
This happened us in Cleveland. When I was playing for
Cleveland Browns. We took the league by storm in two
thousand and seven. Offense was high power. We scored fifty
points twice. I had sixteen touchdowns. We did all those things.
When we came back that next year and they had
the film, they knew not to take us lightly and
expected once again. There was a struggle from the offensive
(01:58:58):
coordinator and everybody in Boston. I want to see how
that looks not now it's very early in season. I
want to see what it looks like by.
Speaker 2 (01:59:03):
The simpler I think that's a great conversation to have.
I always ask myself this though, when I when my
mind goes there, at what point did somebody last year go,
you know what? They're still not good enough? I mean
after the All Star Break, and Trajan Langdon said this
immediate day after the All Star Break, teams are around
the league recognized that team was better, and that team
was good enough to knock you off, that they were
actually a very good basketball team. But I hear what
(01:59:27):
you're saying. I mean, it's you're not sneaking up on anybody.
I just don't think they snuck on anybody in the
second half of last year. I think the mindset is correct,
but sometimes I have to keep reminding myself that they
did have a pretty good second half and I think
other teams were getting ready for him.
Speaker 7 (01:59:41):
Yeah, And the one thing I will say about that,
because I do believe what both of you guys are
actually saying. Last year, they did lunch on the fact
that they came out just hitting the ground running, where
other teams in our first month might sleep walk into chemistry.
By the second half, when the business got their chemistry
and Dennis Schroeder was then started, they were a solid team.
It didn't matter if they were sneaking up on anybody not.
But to start the season now West people didn't have
(02:00:03):
the Pistons Sarkle calendar that now they Yeah, they definitely do,
and that's what we That was kind of one of
my main points as well. It's like, you know what,
who is this squad now that you're gonna get most
people's best or at least yeah people's attention, even if
it's not their best.
Speaker 2 (02:00:16):
Yeah, I don't think there's enough people recognize just how
much Dennis Shrewder played a point that the Sacramento here
ago and Dennis Shrewder is a good player, all right.
We got to get out of here.
Speaker 5 (02:00:24):
Because he's not a starter in Sacramento. He's not just
on the team.
Speaker 2 (02:00:27):
He's right, and that's what I liked about him. He
was good defensively and offensively and really settled things down
when people wanted a secondary ball handler. Kay cunneham sitting down.
He came in more on Michigan Michigan State tomorrow.
Speaker 5 (02:00:39):
T J.
Speaker 2 (02:00:39):
