The Woodwards Sports Networks where sports comes to life.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
I really do. I think it's one of the best
opens we have on this network. But Brailan Edwards is
not here on this network today feeling under the weather.
But we are very fortunate that Anson is here in
the bullpen. He's all warmed up, he's ready to go,
He's got the Converse on and he is ready to
talk a little bit about everything that is anything. Ryan
is with us as well. Kool Aid to Ryan's last day. Hey,
(01:18):
that's all you got to say. It's your last day
at Woodward Sports Network and you go, hey, that's it.
Come on, man, get me something, give me something.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
I mean, we've still got a show to do, so
let's say something. At the end. We'll say something.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Well, at the end is the mail bag. At the
end is all the chats. So we were giving you
that opportunity. If you're if you're not gonna take I.
Speaker 4 (01:40):
Would say, uh, so grateful to be a part of
the show. No, Braley's not here. Someone got a chance
to think him. But I want to thank you Shep, thank.
Speaker 5 (01:47):
You, Anson, thank you kool Aid, justin Spenny Easy, all
those guys, and just KG and JB that those are
two ones I forgot to mention and Sean even so,
I just want to thank everyone them here and especially
this specifically, and uh excited for the future and.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
See what you guys do and we are excited to
follow you as well. So congratulations on your on your
fantasy football, on your on your moving forward. We wish
you nothing but the best, and keep us in mind,
keep us in mind as you move forward, and keep
us in the loop on what's going on. So big weekend.
Of course we'll get heavy Lions today, Lions in Philadelphia
(02:24):
the game to take on the Eagles. Uh, Michigan State
is going to host Penn State. Could this be their
first Big ten win of the season. Let's hope. I'll
be there tomorrow. Uh, Michigan is on the road in
Chicago against Northwestern at Wrigley Field, which I think is cool.
Speaker 6 (02:39):
I've never been to that building. I really really go.
Speaker 7 (02:43):
You've never been to rig out of the existing stadiums,
number one on my list, I got to that.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
I would wait number one to get to. You're saying, gotcha.
Speaker 7 (02:53):
Ok So there's two though that that trumpet sadly do not
stand any longer.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Okay, I think you can guess both. I don't think
it's the Astrodome. I assume Tiger Stadium would be one
of them.
Speaker 7 (03:07):
No, I got I was there. I have Tiger turf
growing in my mother's front yard.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
All right, that's good. That's really good.
Speaker 6 (03:14):
Hoops guy, all right, all right, there's my hint.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
You're a hoops guy. Well, I know you're a basketball guy. Yeah,
that's interesting. I don't.
Speaker 8 (03:26):
I think that.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
Yeah, the hoodie right on the front, Yeah, what are they?
What are the two?
Speaker 7 (03:31):
Absolutely, the Boston Garden would be number one. The fact
that I never got a chance.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
Oh, I thought you meant we were talking baseball. I'm sorry,
I thought you meant like Wrigley Field as in baseball.
Speaker 7 (03:41):
They're playing football there this weekend. That's right in Northwestern,
which is going to be an awesome, awesome, awesome event,
just to go there and see if I think.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
It's really smart by Northwestern.
Speaker 8 (03:51):
Absolutely, I really do.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Now they're in the process of building a new stadium, Okay,
which is cool. But the amount of like, how many
fans is enough for Northwestern football? You know, how many
fans are enough for certain Big Ten programs. Not everyone's
gonna have the Michigan and the Ohio State crowds, right,
But you know, I would guess Northwest it would be
(04:13):
somewhere in the neighborhood of sixty thousand, fifty thousand, somewhere
like that.
Speaker 7 (04:17):
And you got the whole city of Chicago that's going
to be intrigued by that game. And you know, Michigan
fans are traveling.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
Absolutely, they always travel well to Chicago and New York
and California.
Speaker 6 (04:27):
Actually, Michigan travels everywhere.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
Yeah they do.
Speaker 8 (04:30):
And look, I'll take that as a nice thing said
it is.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
Man, that's a good play by yukul Aid. Anytime the
Big Ten Tournament was in Chicago, anytime I would call
games at the Barkley Center or Madison Square Garden college basketball,
Michigan was well represented, there's no doubt. And California as well.
So from a football standpoint, my son can tell you
absolutely they are well represented just about everywhere they go.
(04:55):
But that'll be a really cool experience. Would you ever
want a football game at Comerica Park?
Speaker 3 (05:02):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (05:02):
Hell yeah, hell yeah, because I just like that that
you want the outdoor field.
Speaker 7 (05:08):
Well, I just like putting something different in a building
that you always play this game.
Speaker 6 (05:15):
I'm all about that.
Speaker 7 (05:16):
When they did the what the Frozen four all that
kind of stuff, I think that's really cool.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
Well the Frozen four was actually a Ford field, Okay,
so that's where that was. They did a Red Wings
game at Comerica Park, okay, And I actually called the
Marlins and the Griffins with Mickey Redmond and a warm
up for that. So and then I called the Michigan
Michigan State game at Michigan as well as at Michigan
(05:41):
State years ago, prior to when Mark Collis put it together,
which I think is fantastic. But if you're a football
team and you're going to go and play at Comerica Park,
why not just play at Ford Field, which is an
elite place to play football and is perfect for football
and gives you all the conditions many people would want
to play football.
Speaker 7 (06:00):
Well, you said it already with the outdoor factor. I
love the outdoor factor because we don't see that from
our pro football team here. But again, it just really
comes down to the contrast.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
You know something different, You'll say me something different.
Speaker 7 (06:17):
Jamie Fox is known for throwing parties in Hollywood where
he gets like a petting zoo, a mariachi band, and
then a third thing that's just completely different. So give
me a wild game in a stadium that doesn't normally
I like that.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
I like that. Yeah, Hey, if they can have a
concert there, or why can't they have a football game.
I'm just trying to think of the partnership if there
is such between Ford Field and the folks with Allions
and Comerica Park and the folks with the Tigers on,
how ford Field might think about something like that, and
of course Michigan and Michigan State, why would they do it? Oh,
(06:53):
I'm wrong. Michigan State actually is doing it, but doing
it Ford Field at the end of the regular sh.
Speaker 7 (06:58):
I got to see Chef Curry drop threes at Ford Field.
Speaker 6 (07:03):
That was so so damn cool.
Speaker 7 (07:05):
Give me a Pistons game outdoors at k America. No,
come bro, you say you can't shop, I'll do it.
Speaker 6 (07:15):
Let's go.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
Players don't want that with wind. At some point we
have to recognize it's not for us, it's for them.
Speaker 9 (07:26):
I would watch a preseason game outside, well, yes, we
would a regular season one, all right, I agree with you.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
No that can I just make this suggestion. You still
have to have it covered in case of weather? Yeah right, No,
you just put a flag up see the blowing man.
Well you're you're gonna want people to show up, all right?
Speaker 6 (07:45):
Yeah, you cover the stands, not the court. They slip
and slid.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
Fine, well that's easy until Cad Cunninghouse slips and listen,
and then you know what. The first person on Woodward
Sports Network the next day is antson going, why the
hell would you do that? It's so stupid something like that.
What are you playing this guy in a preseason game for.
Speaker 4 (08:08):
And then Kol doesn't show up to work for a week.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
Oh hey, listen, we would go to the door, knock
on the door and say, hey, are you okay in there?
Please make sure just give it no g Did you.
Speaker 4 (08:21):
Guys like the m s U played on an aircraft carrier? Yes?
Speaker 6 (08:25):
Like that, That's what I'm talking about.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
I like, yeah, I liked it too. I don't know
will they do? You think anybody will do that again?
Speaker 4 (08:35):
I think so.
Speaker 5 (08:36):
It's gained a lot of traction on social media over
the years of like, this is so cool, and I'm
just reading the comments that people liked it.
Speaker 4 (08:41):
Uh so, And.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
I've gotta get together with this because the whole belief
that just because social media thinks it's cool, that you
be done. If there's an athletic director out there, literally,
if he's doing he or shere doing things, because it's
getting a lot of traction on social media, you better
review his resume a little, hey, Ryan, because you've got
to do it for the teams and whether or not
it's good for your team and your program first and
(09:06):
foremost right, how many.
Speaker 7 (09:07):
Times before the show in a conversation where Shep has
He said, who are they?
Speaker 6 (09:12):
Who are they? That's like they are the vocal minority.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
That is so true.
Speaker 5 (09:18):
That's like, that's like Neil's version. That's like Chef's version
of Neil's.
Speaker 8 (09:21):
Was I lied to? That's yeah.
Speaker 5 (09:25):
I also I also think it's a good thing to
honor the military and all that fun stuff.
Speaker 2 (09:30):
I think I think it was. Look, it was the
ingenuity is is really special. I thought, it's like when
Michigan State and Michigan played at Spartan Stadium, Mark Hollis
came up with the idea. Shout out to Mark Hollis,
it was fantastic, called that game with Fred Pletch and
Billy Jaffey, and it was. It was special, it really was.
(09:50):
And it was all weak though it was warm. They
thought they were gonna have to cancel it. How it happened,
because remember that was in late October. How it happened,
I'll never know. But we got an ice storm out
of nowhere and then we were able to play that game.
It was three three. It was spectacular. There were a
ton of pros on the ice at the same time.
(10:12):
And I'll never forget uh covering the wings. I believe
we were in Saint Louis and I was interviewing Wayne Gretzky.
He watched that game. When I found out he watched
that game, I was like, you're kidding me. I couldn't
believe that I was actually calling a game that Wayne
Gretzky was watching. So I love the ingenuity. I love that.
(10:32):
I think it's fantastic. I just don't know if you
could play it, play a Pistons preseason game of Shane
Park or something, it would it would be pretty cool,
or in the words of kool Aid, that would be dope.
Speaker 8 (10:48):
That would be dope. But I watched Final Game, Finals game, but.
Speaker 2 (10:51):
I would I would really worry about that if I
if I owned the team.
Speaker 7 (10:55):
When I was ten, I got to I got to
watch Isaiah Thomas's post camp All Star game.
Speaker 6 (11:02):
Was like magic and everybody down at Saint Cecilia's. Let's
have a game at Saint Cecilia's.
Speaker 2 (11:08):
Fix it first.
Speaker 6 (11:09):
Yeah, no fixing, no fixing, limited invites.
Speaker 1 (11:13):
Us.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
He hasn't been down there a while. That's blatants been
down there speaking of it.
Speaker 9 (11:21):
The one thing real quick you guys were talking about
well represented with Michigan and and shepperd just got me thinking,
with some of the road broadcasts you have called, what
are some of the more memorable well attended games, Because
when I was a kid going up, I remember some
of those Red Wing games were well attended no matter
where they went. Tigers games, Uh, when I got a
little bit older, I started seeing little bit more Tigers
(11:41):
fans out on the road too. He just got me thinking,
I think that Detriy fans traveled pretty well.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
Yeah, I think the Red Wings red Wings fans probably
more than any especially when you go to Arizona and
you go to Los Angeles in places like that. It's
tougher when you're out east and you're going to an
original six like the Rangers or Boston or something like that.
So I think that's a little challenging. I can't say
that there's been the Lions like takeover of any of
(12:06):
the games that that I've necessarily called. I've called games
from some of the most iconic stadiums and arenas that
that you can think of. So I really appreciate all
those opportunities, but I can't think of there's anything special
like the aircraft carrier that we were talking about where
Michigan State that is that is fire. That's absolutely fire.
I mean I've called games in.
Speaker 1 (12:28):
It really is.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
It's brilliant. And now the only problem with that is
how do you how do you get that as a
reoccurring theme. That's that's really challenging from a unique perspective,
isn't it. I said this, Remember when Jim Harbaugh first
got to Michigan and they had that the stars all
(12:51):
come out when they paraded all their their I was
talking with Michigan people back then and I said to them,
I said, this is probably enough the smartest idea, and
they said, why, it's fantastic. Think about all these guys
who are coming out here and meeting Derek Jeter and
meeting Tom Brady. I said, because you basically put all
your eggs in one basket. How do you make this
(13:14):
better next year? How do you keep this going? It's impossible?
And of course they couldn't. They did it for two
years and then stopped. It's the same thing, as great
as it is from Michigan State to play in the
aircraft carrier. And I would never say don't do it,
But how do you do that over and over and
over again and make it a unique experience?
Speaker 6 (13:33):
You lower the supply, so you up the demand.
Speaker 7 (13:36):
You don't do it every year, right, you do something
different every couple of years, and it just blows people's mind.
Like aircraft carrier outdoor Michigan Stadium. You just you have
to dial up something different. Yeah, and if you repeat
it each and every year, it loses its newness and exciting.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
Right. It's almost like.
Speaker 8 (13:53):
These teams every year though, one game, different team.
Speaker 10 (13:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (13:57):
I think there should be something like that.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
Think that would work.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
Maybe different aircraft carriers, depending on where it is in
the in the world. You could go to destroy that.
Speaker 8 (14:07):
Actually, I like that.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
You know, you could do something along those lines. Would
it Would it ever get old? I don't think it would.
Speaker 5 (14:12):
I think it's such a unique so I think people
like it anyway.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
Chat, I agree.
Speaker 7 (14:18):
Chat hit us with some ridiculous combos, like the most
ridiculous combos you can come up with.
Speaker 6 (14:25):
Who think the Chat think you carrier?
Speaker 7 (14:29):
Now take it to our level, our Chat guys, give
us something, Give us a combo.
Speaker 6 (14:34):
The contrast combo game outdoors indoors.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
Where's where's a place you've gone and witnessed a snorting event?
Speaker 6 (14:41):
Where do you want to go? This is what I'm.
Speaker 2 (14:43):
Sah, that's a really good question, and I don't mean
and we're not talking about the specific sport like a
lot of people will say, I want to go to
Fenway Park. Okay, Well that's great, and I would encourage
you to do that, by the way, but that's where
baseball is played. They have a they have the uh,
what's the name of that Bowl game there at Fenway.
(15:03):
They also have one in New York, the Pinstripes Bowl
in New York. I forget the one in Boston. Would
you want to go see that just for the sake
of seeing Let me give you a quick example. They
tried to duplicate the outdoor Cold War was at MSU okay,
and then we're at Michigan with over one hundred thousand.
That was fantastic, Okay, fireworks and all that other stuff.
(15:26):
That was the big chills you know what they had
the following year. People don't remember this. I only remember
because I called it. It was in Cleveland, so Michigan,
Ohio State at Progressive Field. Back then it was a
different name, but that's where they had it. It wasn't
well attended at all, and it was not a good event.
You've got It's not that you got to have fannies
in the seats. Of course you got to have that.
(15:48):
There's got to be an atmosphere, there's got to be
a mood, there's got to be a connection when you're
going to have an event like that, right, So my
hope is that that's what they have going in Chicago
tomorrow between miss Chigan Northwestern. What else would you want
to see? And where it's called the way? Thank yousa give.
Speaker 6 (16:10):
Me a full one.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
So you got that, Where would you like? Where would
you like to go? Now, you guys would like a
basketball game. But again, let me just reiterate, it's tough outdoors.
Michigan State will tell you that too. It's tough outdoors.
Where would you want to see that played? Think about
it for a moment and if it's something else, like,
let let's face it, what is the best besides the
(16:35):
outdoor hockey game, which, by the way, many people feel
like the Winter Classic is old, okay, But besides the
outdoor hockey game that I was just talking about, Michigan,
Michigan State, what's the best? I think? I think the
best is baseball in Iowa. When you have the field
of dreams. And the reason, the reason that's really cool
(16:57):
is because you don't have a lot of people there.
The players walk through the corn. It's once a year.
I think it's I think it's dopey. What else could
you have something like that? Like what if you played
a basketball game on a farm bear with me here
with a decent court and they weren't peach.
Speaker 6 (17:15):
Baskets just outside of French.
Speaker 2 (17:16):
Lick something like that in Indiana and you have wooden backboards.
Speaker 7 (17:22):
Oh please, the Hall of Fame, Yeah, don't on that
peach basket.
Speaker 2 (17:27):
Yeah, I know somebody would want to tear it down.
I get that. You can make it. It doesn't have
to be the obvious. You know, hey, I just made
this in George's garage. I'm talking about making it where
it looks like that and you can.
Speaker 8 (17:40):
Have what I see.
Speaker 9 (17:41):
Randall Smalls he says that, uh love me here in
our chat family south to Randa Smalls, and that all
of you there makes you smash that like buttons.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
Smash it. Somebody to pound it.
Speaker 9 (17:53):
Seven seven seven says football at Madison Square Garden. Rand
Small says, somewhere on a sunny beach, and you know
what got me to thinking about and won basketball and
their tours indoor and outdoor.
Speaker 8 (18:04):
Yeah, and when they were out in California sometimes.
Speaker 9 (18:06):
It will be outdoors all yeah, that setting will be
so cool.
Speaker 2 (18:09):
That would be with muscle beach in the backdrop. Yeah, No,
that's that's a good one. Now, football at Madison Square Garden,
correct me if I'm wrong. They did play indoor football
there Arena football. I believe that's where it was, so
I could be wrong there, but that's a really good one.
Speaker 7 (18:25):
The infrastructure is not there much less like the area ideas.
Speaker 6 (18:32):
Michigan, Michigan State from Belle Isle.
Speaker 8 (18:35):
Yes, I was thinking bell out.
Speaker 1 (18:36):
I'm sporting dude.
Speaker 6 (18:40):
Nation is a larger city park.
Speaker 2 (18:42):
Good job, that would be awesome. Just remember I mean
there's gonna be a new facility going up there sometimes.
But that's a really good one.
Speaker 9 (18:49):
I like, can they facilitate some type of hockey game
out there?
Speaker 2 (18:55):
I don't know why they would do that if they
have the downtown area that's instead, But I like that.
Speaker 6 (19:01):
Right on the Detroit River frozen over Detroit River.
Speaker 2 (19:05):
Now Now there you go, Now there you go.
Speaker 8 (19:08):
That's what that is.
Speaker 7 (19:09):
Thinking right Toronto bapele LEAs versus Michigan the border battle about.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
What if you do something?
Speaker 1 (19:17):
Dude?
Speaker 2 (19:17):
What what what if you do something on a lake
or you know, or so cool? That would be the
Trock River. You could have people on each side as
part of the front. That would be stellar, would be
so great idea, dude, that would be awesome.
Speaker 9 (19:33):
I would love like a DoPT boxing match, one of
our legends here, one of our hometown favorites, or even
if it's a you know, Clorisa Shields boxing some wow
on bello, like you got my mind really thinking on
that bella and something swanky too. We're covering it. We're
showing up in our best in our suits and such.
There's a Detroit club.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
You have all that pregame, here's your pregome. I like
that gas right now. I'm the Detroit Sports Commission should
be watching this show.
Speaker 6 (20:02):
That they are. You know.
Speaker 7 (20:03):
Another one and I believe that they did this maybe
ten or so years ago, was play a basketball game
at the Jennison field House.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
And they did yeah, which I think is fantastic.
Speaker 6 (20:11):
I love that build.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
It was a classic, and not just because it's all sounds,
not just because it's old, because there's plenty of places
that were old. I've called games at Inglewood all right
there at the Forum in Los Angeles.
Speaker 6 (20:25):
See, that's number two. That's a building number two.
Speaker 1 (20:27):
I want to go.
Speaker 2 (20:27):
It's a pig sty, I know, but I like.
Speaker 5 (20:30):
I like that.
Speaker 2 (20:31):
Just because they're old doesn't mean they're great. Some old
places are great.
Speaker 6 (20:35):
Does the Forum still stand?
Speaker 2 (20:37):
I have no idea. I would hope not.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
It was awful.
Speaker 6 (20:41):
Did you go to Boston Garden?
Speaker 2 (20:43):
I had never been to Boston Garden. I've been to
TV Waterhouse, but I had never been Boston.
Speaker 8 (20:47):
You know, there's a there. There's a super chat here.
Speaker 9 (20:49):
Before I read that, I think it got my mind
thinking even more even concerts, shows and such. You talk
about what they did down there out in front of
what the drinks the Central Park in front of the transition.
That was awesome. Michael Werry, though two do a super
chat number one in the chat police MLB All Star
Game at the Field of Dreams.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
Can I give you one? Just as I would hope.
I'm not trying to trump people here. But how about
in ham Trammick at that Pole Park I was.
Speaker 6 (21:16):
Thinking about at the Little Community.
Speaker 2 (21:21):
Yes, no, no, no, no, it's the original No, no, it's
the original baseball park Ham Trammick the Negro leagues. That's
what I'm talking they're refurbishing that and and and and
that would be a fantastic place to have some type
of If you don't want to, you're not gonna play
(21:41):
the baby, You're not gonna play the Major League Baseball
All Star Game there. That's not what But could you
have one event there? Here's the problem. Yeah, you know,
I'm talking about ants and money here. They want as
many corporate people in the stands. And I'm sorry, but
this is the reality of what we got to go through.
They want to sell boot shop. Yeah, they want as
(22:01):
many people in this, which always kills me. So when
I've brought this up to people before, about this idea,
and they quickly turned their back on me. It's almost
like Ryan looking at his phone. Everything. Ryan's got to
be the right here, right, So just kidding. I had
to get one more dig before he leaves the I
used to say them, wait a minute. At the Field
of Dreams in Iowa, it sound like you had a
(22:22):
lot of people there. You've got corporate people there, right,
So why can you have something like that in ham Trammick.
I just I think that would be a special moment.
Speaker 7 (22:32):
How about UK versus India Nope, at the old Tiger
Stadium in a game of cricket.
Speaker 6 (22:40):
Yeah, cricket, guys.
Speaker 2 (22:43):
No thanks. You know what's there all over?
Speaker 1 (22:47):
You know what?
Speaker 2 (22:48):
That's the Police Athletic League right now. Yeah, it's They've
done a great job.
Speaker 8 (22:52):
You got you got people excited about that the field.
Brother Michael Werris said, I forgot about that field. Nice
Jet Randall, small set. You're reading my mind? Are good? Cause?
Speaker 2 (23:02):
Up?
Speaker 8 (23:02):
It would be great, great, great, pr.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
Yeah, it would be really cool, man. I would love
to see people come out and do something like that,
and it's another way to showcase the historical significance this
city has. I think it'd be really cool. Well, that's
a lot of fun, man, I mean, anybody in the
chat has something that they would like to see. I
don't know if you're going to see Michigan Northwestern. I
(23:25):
had a chance to go, but I'm going to East
Lancing to my own.
Speaker 6 (23:28):
Oh what a excellent choice. Well, I have two choices.
Speaker 7 (23:32):
You got a pile of poop in one hand, and
you got a great weekend in the other, and you
chose the great weekend.
Speaker 2 (23:39):
Neither one would have been bad, quite honestly, because if
I'd have gone to Chicago, I'd see my oldest boy,
which is great. But I'm going to East Lancing because
it's my daughter's in a Michigan State sorority and it's
dad's weekends. I'm not telling you. I'm not gonna say.
She's a senior. She's been on the board for four
years or three years, so she's enjoyed her time there.
(24:01):
So anyway, so that's where we're going. But I've got
friends who are going to Wrigley Field to check that out.
It's it's it really is. I'm surprised you've never been there.
That really is surprising.
Speaker 6 (24:12):
I want to do is guess what SA she's in there.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
I know, but I really like I don't like wriggly
Field that much. I like Wrigleyville. It's really cool. When uh,
I think it was three years ago, Zach Brown Band
was at Wrigley and Tigers had a day game. So
played a day game in Chicago's South Side, which is
one of the worst ballparks in all of baseball, and
(24:37):
then that night went and saw Zach Brown Band. It
was awesome.
Speaker 7 (24:42):
I've traveled all over the world, all over the country,
and now that I think about it, I've only been
to PNC Park, okay, wherever the heat plays down in Miami,
and the Alamodome for Games seven and OI heartbreak.
Speaker 2 (24:57):
The Alamo Dome, oh my god.
Speaker 6 (24:59):
Was the worst. We were all nine with seven minutes.
Speaker 2 (25:02):
Hey, listen, when you're in a when you're on your
way to the Alamodome and you're driving down that street
and then you turn left and you go in there
and there's all this rodeo stuff and you're like, where
the hell am I? First of all, you're driving down
the street and if that were a college campus, you
wouldn't be able to bring anybody there because it's just
absolute slumville, right, terrible how terrible little house.
Speaker 7 (25:21):
Then there's one street that you have to wrap all
the way around to enter into the parking lot just
for the stadium. We sat in a cab for forty minutes.
Speaker 6 (25:29):
Didn't even leave the stadium.
Speaker 7 (25:31):
I had to walk two miles home where we were
ahead of everybody. That is the worst sign setup ever.
It's River Walk is nice, but that's about it.
Speaker 2 (25:39):
Yeah, it's it's a bad situation. I wouldn't know about
that part, unfortunately for me or fortunately for me because
I usually go in with on the team bus. But
I can't believe how in the hell you put a
stadium or an arena there. That's why, well, that's that's why.
That's that's why they are that's why they are getting
(25:59):
a new arena. And rightfully so. Look at Dallas' arena,
Dallas is I mean, that's a beautiful place.
Speaker 7 (26:06):
Alimaldome was well suited for an OHL minor league franchise,
right hockey.
Speaker 2 (26:12):
Yeah, that's about it.
Speaker 1 (26:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (26:14):
And Randall Small's in a chat says, how about a
wolfletball game at old Tiger Stadium? How do we get
woofotball and softball there? Woodward invitation or something that would
be pretty dope.
Speaker 2 (26:24):
We can talk to Freddie Hunter who runs who runs
pal Uh, he's a great dude.
Speaker 1 (26:28):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (26:29):
We could go out and we could we could actually
help some kids and and then ask to participate. The
wiffle ball would be I mean you pull the pull
the fences in. How about a kickball game? Somebody will
pull them to were you gonna were you gonna say
that I.
Speaker 6 (26:41):
Just did kickball? Yeah? The DK l Detroit Kickball League
or something. They're pretty big now. They they played with
Belle Isle And.
Speaker 2 (26:50):
How big When you say they're pretty big, now, what
do you mean by that?
Speaker 7 (26:53):
Well, they've been around for twenty years now and they've
got they've got, you know, probably good eight teams.
Speaker 6 (26:58):
But it's a funk in the league.
Speaker 2 (27:00):
It's a lot of fun.
Speaker 7 (27:01):
They play down on Belle Isle. But it's got a
following in Detroit. I bet people will come out for it.
Especially you put put Megatron's big leg out there.
Speaker 6 (27:09):
Come Guy's blasted it into into the windsors.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
Somebody just put this in the chat. Crazy clown. I
had never been to a Pistons game.
Speaker 1 (27:19):
I missed.
Speaker 8 (27:21):
Him.
Speaker 6 (27:23):
Can change?
Speaker 2 (27:24):
Do you think that's true? I got a call BS.
Speaker 6 (27:27):
I don't know, but I don't think he would admit
that if it was true.
Speaker 8 (27:31):
Was one of our regulars.
Speaker 6 (27:33):
He wild, but he's not a liar. Yeah, crazy clown.
Speaker 2 (27:38):
Wow, that's stunning to me. Not at the Palace, not
at the Silver Dome.
Speaker 7 (27:43):
I've been to a been to three Red Wing games
in my life. I've been to two Michigan State basketball
games in my life. I went to the ninety seven
immaculate interception Michigan Michigan State game. It's the only college
football game I've ever been to.
Speaker 6 (28:05):
Not a bad game to be at.
Speaker 2 (28:07):
I don't shout out La Belle Richardson first.
Speaker 6 (28:11):
Family section seats.
Speaker 2 (28:13):
That is now.
Speaker 6 (28:15):
I've been to probably a thousand Pistons games.
Speaker 4 (28:19):
I've only been a couple.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
I haven't been to a life I've been. I've been
to a lot of Pistons games over my life. I
can't say that I've been to a thousand. A thousand
is is pretty still lot.
Speaker 6 (28:30):
Twenty five years at forty plus games a year.
Speaker 2 (28:34):
Yeah, that's that's a lot. Forty plus games a year.
That's incredible. I mean that stuns me that somebody he's
from Detroit, right, crazy clown's from Detroit, I assume to
have never been to a Piston game. Maybe we can
try to help him change that. I'd love for him
to go. That would be Can we work work toward
that and see what we could do for him if
(28:55):
he wants to go.
Speaker 6 (28:56):
If he wants to go, Guys, I've never been to
the Academy Awards. Can we make this happen as well?
Speaker 2 (29:02):
That's you. You won't get those three hours back in
your lifetime. I don't really want to go anywhere. I
did go to the A. M.
Speaker 7 (29:07):
A's and set right next to Mike Tyson back in
oh three. Oh that's pretty cool and intimidated.
Speaker 2 (29:13):
And and uh, how was that conversation? I would love
to know what. I would love to know what you
talked to.
Speaker 1 (29:19):
Him about it.
Speaker 6 (29:19):
I was like, how are you miss how are you
doing with my friend that.
Speaker 2 (29:22):
You called him? Mister Tyson?
Speaker 11 (29:23):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (29:23):
Hell yeah, Mike, come on man, hey, I just wanted
to hang over recently.
Speaker 8 (29:31):
Hangover It's my favorite part. Wait?
Speaker 5 (29:33):
Is that?
Speaker 2 (29:33):
Is that the first time you watched the Hangover? That's
your favorite part? Not where he wakes where whatever the
guy's name is wakes up in his glasses and he's
missing a tooth and there's a chicken chicken walking around.
Speaker 4 (29:44):
I have a favorite part, but I can't repeat what
they say on air, so.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
Streaming, streaming, nobody cares.
Speaker 4 (29:50):
But Tyson when he just like, he's my favorite part,
and then just punches Alan, Dude, this.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
Is my favorite part.
Speaker 1 (29:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (29:57):
And then when they're watching the film and the Tiger Man,
what's wrong with you people?
Speaker 8 (30:02):
All right?
Speaker 2 (30:03):

Speaker 7 (35:42):
It's funny you said it party like it's nineteen eighty nine,
because a week ago, Prince I took a screenshot of
the top three teams in the Eastern Conference and my
exact say tweets said party like it's nineteen eighty nine.
Piston's number one, Bulls number two, Calves number three.
Speaker 2 (36:01):
That was nineteen eighty and the Cavs were number three
and nineteen eighty I.
Speaker 6 (36:03):
Was when they had Mark Price and Curb Brad dirty.
Speaker 2 (36:07):
Yeah, but they were third, is what you're saying.
Speaker 7 (36:09):
Yeah, man, if Price didn't get hurt that year, he's
a good player.
Speaker 2 (36:15):
He actually was. He was a really good player, really
good passer, excellent free throw shooter, and Stocked very Why
because they're both white point guards, right and slow and
smart by the way, shot, I don't think Stockton was
slow at all.
Speaker 5 (36:27):
No, he was okay, by the way, my sister appreciates
the Prince reference. That's your favorite artist.
Speaker 7 (36:33):
Oh okay, all right, John Stockton one of the dirtiest
players in NBA history.
Speaker 2 (36:37):
Dirty, yeah, I would go. I would say, absolutely not.
Speaker 8 (36:40):
Okay, Oh no, you ask.
Speaker 6 (36:42):
Around like he was dirty, dirty, dirty, clutching, grabbing.
Speaker 2 (36:46):
Okay, So this is this is what happens oftentimes when
you and I, who did you ask?
Speaker 7 (36:50):
I saw this was a round for him of old
school NBA Hall of famers, and they all said, oh,
don't sleep on Johnny Stockton. That guy was the dirty
guy ever to play against, like you couldn't let your
guard down with him for a moment.
Speaker 6 (37:04):
This was not the vocal minority. This was the vocal
hall of famers.
Speaker 7 (37:09):
I got you okay, all right, which was shocking to
me because he just seems like he's the you know,
do everything right type of guy. He was kind of
hailed ass. But him and Karl Malone, people didn't like
playing against him.
Speaker 6 (37:21):
It wasn't just because they.
Speaker 2 (37:22):
Were good, yeah, combined together, really really good. Uh So,
just so I'm clear here, I want to make sure
we got this right. You would consider him dirtier than
who so? Would I mean, would you say, run our
test m would you say, no, this is gonna get
this is gonna this is gonna get sensitive.
Speaker 7 (37:43):
I'm gonna say no, considering what ron our test went
out and did. Okay, not more than Lamberne.
Speaker 2 (37:48):
I was gonna say Lambierte. No, I was gonna say
Dennis Rodman.
Speaker 7 (37:51):
No, okay, you're talking top three of the ten though,
right there, Well, I still got seven more spots.
Speaker 2 (37:59):
It's not all right, all right, I love I could
I could go a few more, all right. I mean,
there's a few other guys I think like Noah.
Speaker 6 (38:10):
Yeah, he was a little dirty, But I mean I
think the thing.
Speaker 2 (38:13):
That Charles Oakley would would come to mind, He's talk
how about uh, how about Rajon Rondo.
Speaker 6 (38:21):
Oh I'm going stock him. Okay, all right, Delante West
going to Alante West?
Speaker 2 (38:32):
How about about about about how about Rashid Wallace? You know,
I don't you know, I'm a fan of his soul.
Probably not.
Speaker 7 (38:41):
I didn't find him so much a dirty player as
he was a volatile one.
Speaker 2 (38:46):
Okay, you know what.
Speaker 8 (38:49):
I like that distinction.
Speaker 2 (38:50):
That is a good distinction. Yeah, I mean he got texts.
Speaker 6 (38:53):
He wasn't for elbows.
Speaker 2 (38:55):
Yeah that you're right. Text text don't mandate that you're dirty, correct,
you get it's just wild Bruce Bowen.
Speaker 6 (39:03):
Now see now when you start talking about those guys
and you get.
Speaker 7 (39:06):
Into the bowlens and what was a Rajah Bell Uh,
those guys had to be dirty to.
Speaker 6 (39:13):
Be what they were considered, which was a defensive stopper.
Speaker 2 (39:16):
So that's so you're giving him a pass.
Speaker 6 (39:18):
No, I'm not giving him a pass.
Speaker 7 (39:19):
I like that you brought those guys up because that
brings in a whole new crew of guys that, like
their play had like they that's what they brought to
the table to be able to not shut down but
keep up with the Kobe or frustrated Kobe.
Speaker 2 (39:33):
You know what I'm saying, I'm about Scottie Pippen.
Speaker 9 (39:38):
I see Karl Malone and Charles Oakley come up in
a chat. Michael Ay says Charles Oakley, Thomas Wood says.
Speaker 6 (39:46):
The elbows for sure.
Speaker 2 (39:48):
I'm not saying he's not. I'm just saying you said
one of the dirtiest players of all time, very confidently,
and I just brought up. I brought up about eight
guys off the cuff. I mean I could go more.
Speaker 7 (39:59):
If I think you brought six that I agree or
above there. I would not put Bruce Bowen above him, Honestly,
some people think.
Speaker 2 (40:06):
Some people think Bruce Bowen's the dirty slip his foot underneath.
Speaker 8 (40:09):
I remember that.
Speaker 7 (40:12):
I'm going to be sending some clips of old school
players talking about John Stocked.
Speaker 2 (40:17):
I don't know if that's going to convince me one
way or the other. Okay, if you if you do
some some additional research other than listen listening to a podcast,
you might change your mind.
Speaker 6 (40:27):
I don't own a TV.
Speaker 7 (40:29):
I watch old Larry Bird stories and I watched you know,
the pivot.
Speaker 2 (40:35):
You know that's funny you say that. It's so funny
you say that about Larry Bird because I was not
a Larry Bird fan. Why would I be right steel Weather?
Speaker 6 (40:43):
But now you are.
Speaker 2 (40:44):
Well, I think I've I've grown to appreciate and reward. Okay,
I've always respect, just like I cannot like a player
and respect the hell out.
Speaker 1 (40:51):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (40:52):
I do not like and I never liked anybody on
the Celtics, but I can respect it. I never like
Michael Jordan, but I respect him, Okay. And the same
thing with Lebron James. Can't stand him, but I respect
him as a basketball player. Larry Bird, the amount of
to your point, people talking about him and the clips
that you see, even though I watched most of his career,
(41:13):
you look at that and you're like, man, that dude
was just ice cold blooded, so good and really makes
you appreciate him anyway. Good shoff.
Speaker 6 (41:23):
Eighty four eighty five Larry Bird or the field.
Speaker 2 (41:26):
Well, here's the thing, I'm not even sure Larry Bird
gets enough credit.
Speaker 7 (41:31):
Eighty forty five Bird might be the greatest season any
NBA players ever had.
Speaker 2 (41:35):
Yeah, I mean Will Chamberlin would probably challenge that, No,
I will.
Speaker 6 (41:39):
Support Will Chamberlain.
Speaker 2 (41:42):
I mean, let's be careful, let's not get too hyperbolic
because we're talking about one specific player. But I'm not
sure he gets nearly enough credit because when people talk
about you know, these are always the fun conversations. You're
going to party this weekend, You're going out to dinner
with people, while the women are over here talking about
whatever it is you and your buddies are bring that
up top ten this and it immediately evolves into a
(42:05):
really strong debate, which I've always been in favor of.
But if you said top ten basketball players, I'll bet
you most people who you talk to would not have
him in their top ten.
Speaker 6 (42:16):
Bird Yes, oh yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 7 (42:18):
And it's because he's white and because he's considered not
to be a premier athlete.
Speaker 2 (42:23):
But what he well, you're right about that second part.
Speaker 7 (42:25):
Yeah, But the problem is how many times kol had
you been on the court and some clunky white boy
comes up, gets picked second to last and just goes
out there and frustrates the hell out of everybody.
Speaker 6 (42:36):
And that's what he was.
Speaker 7 (42:37):
But he had the ice cold veins. This guy, you know,
he broke. He started off at IU and then he
transferred to Indiana State and he was playing innermural softball.
He caught a ball bare handed, broke three of his fingers.
To this day, his shooting hand, his right hand, he
can't put flat on a table.
Speaker 6 (42:53):
That's the best shooter ever. But he was the best
smack talk ever.
Speaker 7 (42:58):
The guy got into your head and he I don't
know if anybody outside of Michael Jordan had as high
of self belief in his game as Larry Bird did
and what he was able to do in the mid eighties.
Speaker 6 (43:09):
People just don't understand. They're so focused on showtime they
forgot what he did.
Speaker 2 (43:15):
Yeah, I would agree with that. I think a lot
of it is more about a lot of the flash
that a lot of players had. And let's face it,
he did some things that oftentimes went unnoticed too. But
if you talk to certain players who played with him
and against him, they would tell you he is one
of the top ten players of all time. Now that
(43:36):
list constantly changes, you know. I mean, people are going
to sneak in eventually, Victor Webbin Yama. People eventually are
going to sneak in maybe a Janis Sante to Coumpo.
That's a possibility. I'm just saying it's going to fluctuate.
But ye know, when I was watching back then, like
I would bring up those names and people be like,
are you kidding me? And then they'd reel off the
(43:57):
more recent names. I'm like, I'd take Bird. I'd take
Bird as a as a passer, and I'd take him
as a shooter for sure.
Speaker 6 (44:04):
You know I'm gonna get slack for this. I'm gonna
get health.
Speaker 2 (44:07):
That's the reason you're gonna say it.
Speaker 7 (44:10):
Caid Cunningham reminds me more of Larry Bird than anybody
that's playing right now.
Speaker 6 (44:14):
He's far more athletic, but he's not white. He's far
more athletic.
Speaker 8 (44:17):
He's halfway.
Speaker 3 (44:21):
Wrong.
Speaker 6 (44:21):
Hair twenty five is Cage is white boy winner?
Speaker 2 (44:25):
What does it? What does it he?
Speaker 6 (44:27):
When he plays, he just plays at a slower pace
that he's just waiting for you to make him stake.
Speaker 2 (44:33):
I think it's a more controlled pace. I don't think
it's absolutely.
Speaker 7 (44:36):
But it's it's controlled by him down to a slow
pace until you make a mistake and then he's by you.
Speaker 6 (44:42):
His touch passes, his ability to rebound, to defend, his.
Speaker 2 (44:45):
Back to his smooth jumper. It's it's a beautiful like
so many people operators, So many people talk about Richard
Hamilton as, you know, such a great mid range shooter,
and he was. There's no doubt about it. Caid Cunningham's
ability to him cold get a shot better than Richard
Hamilton's good. Cad Cunningham's ability to just effortlessly hit eighteen footers,
(45:08):
I think is a beautiful thing to see. I would
ask people this, and we didn't really want to get
into the NBA stuff, but we can. He's one of
the more enjoyable players to watch in the league. And
I don't say that because he's a Piston. You guys
know me, right, Not everything has to be Detroit related.
Even though I'm really proud, I think he's one of
the more enjoyable players to watch in all the basketball.
Speaker 7 (45:29):
He's accomplished at all three levels, one of the most
accomplished three level scorers in the NBA right now period.
He will take you to the rack. He can shoot
it from three, in a mid raying game, fade away, whatever,
it doesn't matter.
Speaker 6 (45:42):
He can hit it all. But what he's been able
to do by involving the rest of the team, but
then you get a windmill dunk out of nowhere.
Speaker 7 (45:53):
I mean, I watch a lot of his high school
footage and the guy played above the rim all the time.
Saw a lot of that at Oklahoma State too. You
didn't see it when he came here. He hadn't been healthy.
This is his first truly healthy season. He's starting to
play above the rim again a little bit. But the
guy doesn't complain. The guy always is pushing.
Speaker 6 (46:15):
I mean, he just plays the I want. I don't
want to say the right way.
Speaker 7 (46:20):
He plays the Detroit way, as much as it would
have been interesting the SGA and Giddy.
Speaker 6 (46:25):
Trade for Kate a few years ago. Kate was made
for the city man.
Speaker 2 (46:28):
Yeah, I don't know if I go quite that far,
but I love the tiered ability that he brings on
a regular basis for his size. Windmill dunks, no offense
don't impress me. What impresses me is his vision on
the floor, his leadership and how it's grown, and his
(46:52):
limitless range. I would say, I'm not saying he Steph Curry,
but I love that he'll pass up a more difficult
shot find a way to sneak his way into what
he sees as a pocket to be a better shot.
What we're gonna say, kool aid.
Speaker 8 (47:06):
Sorry, No, it was just talking about Kay cutting him
this year.
Speaker 9 (47:09):
In those improvements, something that was pretty interesting to me
was the aspect of turnovers. Right now, this is his
second highest usage rate of his career, but it is
his lowest turnover rate of his entire career at twelve
and a half percent. So the improvements the game is
going down and where do you see the improvements most
What's happening in those fourth quarters and into games? Some
(47:31):
of those one two or three careless mistakes at the
end of games like last year that we saw cutting
those down. You see him scoring like the most points
in the fourth quarter this year.
Speaker 1 (47:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (47:43):
And I believe he logs more minutes than anybody else
in the NBA right now. I could be wrong, but.
Speaker 8 (47:47):
That way more fishing in the quarter. Killer, Yep, that's
what you see.
Speaker 9 (47:50):
The difference between the turnovers going down and that's scoring
going up is a correlation well.
Speaker 7 (47:55):
And the ratio between his usage and turnovers last year
was right on par with those heavy usage, high usage players,
the superstars, the hardens.
Speaker 6 (48:05):
In the NBA.
Speaker 7 (48:06):
I don't want to call him a superstar still, but
he's just one of those high usage.
Speaker 2 (48:09):
Well, he's getting there. Turns, he's still he's still getting there.
I still think the turnovers are too many. Okay, I
think he's getting down three and a half. He's about
three point six, so.
Speaker 6 (48:20):
He was at four three last year. I believe when you.
Speaker 2 (48:23):
Look at he's handling the ball more. So that's important.
Speaker 7 (48:25):
The other guys that have his level of usage, they
all have more turnovers perky, and that last year it
wasn't that way.
Speaker 6 (48:31):
So he's he's been awesome. Gotta get him.
Speaker 2 (48:34):
Yeah, but guys, those guys, I would say, some of
those guys like Devin Booker has more turnovers than he
does on average. He doesn't handle the ball like Kid
Cunningham does.
Speaker 8 (48:42):
Sure, okay, and so you seeks turnover percent.
Speaker 2 (48:46):
It's being better and I get that, but I'm still
I still don't want to see nine turns in a game. Okay,
So I don't care how much you got that. The
reason you have the ball in your hand is because
you're supposed to be trusted with the ball in your hand,
all right, So you can talk about usage all you want.
I'm talking about how many times you're giving it to
the other team.
Speaker 7 (49:07):
We came in here on Tuesday after the triple double
and Stick had read somewhere that he had eleven turnovers.
Speaker 6 (49:14):
So he starts to show about the quadruple double. Then
finally I pull up, I'm like, no, you had two.
Speaker 2 (49:19):
He had two, right, yeah, I mean he threw a
lot of bricks up.
Speaker 6 (49:23):
But he had a G League fourth string squad with them.
Speaker 9 (49:26):
To put things in perspective, to just to compare it,
you know, Kate to sitting that usage at about thirty
two and a half percent, turnover eight of twelve and
a half percent, whereas Devin Booker's sitting at about thirty
one point seven usage but a turnover percentage of fourteen
point six.
Speaker 2 (49:41):
Just he doesn't it over. He shouldn't be handling the
ball very much. He is literally catch shoot guy, yes, okay,
whereas Kate Cunningham is more I can deck drive, I
can catch shoot, I can create for me and I
can create for you. That's what I love most about
it now is he is is certain guys like Devin
or Donovan Mitchell. I mean Donovan, we can shoot the
all of the ball.
Speaker 1 (50:01):
Right.
Speaker 2 (50:02):
He's now in that conversation. Does he do I want
to see a little bit longer of a resume. Look,
I love what he does, right, He's done for two
years basically, No, Okay.
Speaker 8 (50:11):
Jannen Brunson is one of those guys.
Speaker 9 (50:13):
So you're talking about low turnover guy, clutch in the
fourth quarter and leads his team. I think that he
is that standard, you know, in terms of being that
performer that takes care of the ball and still outputs
at a high level when this team needs.
Speaker 2 (50:24):
And you get all of us a wet paper bag.
Yet all of us would take Kate Cunningham in a minute.
And I think, I think just not every person who
has a sense of NBA acumen in their in their
mind would take Kate cunning him.
Speaker 9 (50:38):
I believe Kay is the number one point guard in
the number He's the number two point guard in the NBA.
Speaker 8 (50:42):
In the NBA, That's what I say.
Speaker 7 (50:43):
And I will take Kate Cunningham over Luka Doncic every
single day of the year.
Speaker 6 (50:48):
You know what they call his shoes. I don't care
El Matador because he lets everything by him. How are
you gonna lay let that be your nickname when you
can't do what paper bat that guy. I don't be
the most accomplished score in the NBA.
Speaker 2 (51:07):
But you know what, So when that happened, when that
trade went down with Dallas, and I said something about
his physique and about his inability to defend, just like
James Harden. I used to make the same damn thing
about James Harden.
Speaker 1 (51:20):
It was like, what are you crazy?
Speaker 2 (51:22):
How can you say that, Luca Dongs all this other stuff.
I want guys who can play both ends of the floor.
Speaker 8 (51:27):
That's why.
Speaker 2 (51:28):
That's what listen. That's why I like Shay Gilgis. Alexander
is probably my favorite player. I just I just love him.
I think he's I think he's phenomenal, right, and I
also like the way he handles himself. Now, some people
can argue he gets to the line too much, he
gets favorable whistles. Yeah, join the NBA crowd, okay. Cad
Cunningham is going to start getting the same type of whistles, okay,
(51:51):
And he deserves to get those same type of whistles.
Speaker 7 (51:53):
And his and his team rallies to him the same
way that the thunder rallies to I talked about this
yesterday on the BD Show. That squad the Pistons the
only team in the NBA that reminds me of what
I've seen over the last few years.
Speaker 6 (52:13):
In Okay, see.
Speaker 7 (52:14):
Fifteen men strong traveling to Vegas to each other, doesn't
matter whether it's the second, third, fourth, or first string.
Speaker 6 (52:22):
There's no labs.
Speaker 2 (52:24):
Yes, I mean the only thing I would say that
you gotta be careful because we're not close to all
the other teams. Okay, we don't know if those other
teams are hanging out during the off season, going to
Vegas together and all that other stuff. They might watch
a lot, they might be. Okay, but that doesn't you
see the teams now, I get it.
Speaker 1 (52:41):
I get it.
Speaker 2 (52:42):
I'm just saying we're acting like, oh my god, this
is what everybody else aspires to be when we don't
other teams might be doing that. Okay, So without getting
too much oh my god, look at what they've built.
I've said this time and time again in last two years.
They're like a college team to me. Okay, and I
think that's important. I do, But I don't know what
other teams are doing, and quite hownest I don't care
(53:03):
what other teams are doing. I know most Detroit Sports
fans don't either, but they have built something. And I
give Trajan Langdon a ton of credit because he recognized
what was needed here and what was lacking, and the
coach has brought them together. But so as to your point,
Kate Cunham and the leadership, and it's it's really special
(53:24):
they call it. Yeah, I mean it's it's it's fun
to follow, it's fun to watch, it's a fun brand,
it's it's interesting. The teams, like the Lions are really
fun to watch, are they not. I wouldn't you think.
I don't know, if you know people out of town.
My wife's from Massachusetts, so her family's out there. They
like watching the Lions.
Speaker 8 (53:42):
I get my family in Carolinas think our team is
I dope.
Speaker 2 (53:45):
Yeah, so I get I get something from my wife's
cousin every single weekend.
Speaker 1 (53:49):
Man, those Lions.
Speaker 2 (53:51):
Loves watching the He's a huge Patriots fan, loves watching
the Lions though Okay, I don't say it's his second team,
but they do enjoy it. I think there's a lot
of people in the NBA like watching the Pistons play.
Speaker 6 (54:03):
There's a lot to like about them.
Speaker 7 (54:05):
I mean, we have this is the most athletic and
high flying Pistons team I've ever watched.
Speaker 6 (54:10):
You've got a guy that is a non diva superstar
that is, for all the reasons.
Speaker 7 (54:15):
We just mentioned, is really fun to watch. And then
you watch a guy like a sar Asara I'm and Thompson.
They're fascinating to the NBA public. They love those twins
because they're probably two of the best athletes we've seen
coming into the league in the last ten years. And
then now Durren like, I mean, this big car piece
of Mahogany just owning people. Top ten nine category center
(54:39):
right now, a guy that some people in Detroit were
talking about trading last year.
Speaker 6 (54:43):
This is a really fun team to watch. And then
you go back to the lines. You arguably, and maybe
not even an argument, you have ten.
Speaker 7 (54:51):
Players there, top five at their position, from the punter
to your quarterback, and all kinds of sexy players in between.
Speaker 6 (54:58):
Because if you can't get excited to watch i'man Ross,
Saint Brown or Jamiir Gibbs, you're not a football.
Speaker 2 (55:05):
Well, yeah, for there are certain guys for me with
the Lions who I get excited to watch. Jamiir Gibbs,
I think gives you that a drownde. I'm on same
Brown to me is just a very steady player.
Speaker 15 (55:16):
You know.
Speaker 6 (55:16):
I'm sorry Brown third down you're seeing them though.
Speaker 2 (55:19):
Yeah, I enjoy I do. I enjoy watching him play
because I think he does so many things right. He
truly is one of my favorite players. He doesn't necessarily
excite me. The excitement for me is the big play capability.
Oh yeah, And I think he is just one of
those guys that makes me go like, I'm gonna watch
him for sure. But Jamiir Gibbs, Jamison Williams to a
(55:41):
certain senator, Jack Campbell on the defensive side, Aiden Hutchinson
on the defensive side, Brian Branch on the defensive side, Like,
I think we can get excited about defensive players too.
That's not just offense and coaches.
Speaker 7 (55:54):
I mean that's the I mean, who would you rather
watch than Dan Campbell give a press conference in the NFL?
Speaker 2 (56:01):
Yeah, I mean you and I would. I don't know
if fans give a crap about Maybe.
Speaker 6 (56:04):
They people on Twitter say, man, I love the Lions coach.
I love it. People were making fun of him first year.
Now that I hear all the time, like, man, I
wish we had a coach.
Speaker 9 (56:12):
Like that was changed from they used to love the
Mike McDaniels of the world, and they were laughing at
Dan Campbell now.
Speaker 1 (56:19):
That he did.
Speaker 2 (56:19):
They liked Mike McDaniels.
Speaker 8 (56:21):
They did, they did, they loved him.
Speaker 2 (56:24):
Yeah, wow, wow, wow, wow, wow, Holy crap. I don't
know anybody. I don't know how anybody in their right
mind could watch that dude at any point in his
coaching career. I don't care if he wins a press
conference or not. How in the world could you honestly
say I want to play for that dude, or I
want to watch that guy deliver more injury reports to
(56:46):
the media.
Speaker 7 (56:47):
But you know, Shepp and McDonald could go close shopping
together and then the whole day.
Speaker 2 (56:52):
You were talking because you're always so well dressed.
Speaker 7 (56:55):
He's well dressed. I just see you guys at Summerset. Man,
just day's gone already. Man, What do you get what
you get guys all looking.
Speaker 8 (57:02):
At I don't think they were mess always just I
don't think they were messed. He's a professional to make
it work.
Speaker 2 (57:07):
But trust me this, my wife will back me up
on this. There's no flipping way I'm going to the mall.
I don't go to mall.
Speaker 6 (57:15):
Really, he only men's cature. Hell no, only men's.
Speaker 2 (57:21):

Speaker 1 (57:22):
Woman in a long wood would downtown.
Speaker 2 (57:27):
I'm telling you listen, just because I don't shop in
the Salvation Army. But all I'm saying is what my wife,
my wife, my wife, my wife will tell.
Speaker 1 (57:35):
You she does.
Speaker 2 (57:37):
She cannot take me shopping because I hate it with
a passion.
Speaker 6 (57:40):
The hell you got against the Salvation Army shop.
Speaker 2 (57:42):
Nothing I give there all the time.
Speaker 1 (57:44):
I give it all the time to good for you.
Speaker 6 (57:49):
That's that's courtesy of mister everywhere.
Speaker 2 (57:51):
Like Christian Dorsy, you can keep you can keep the
keep the shirt down, please.
Speaker 1 (57:59):

Speaker 2 (57:59):
I don't think any different. Again, I don't think anybody.
Speaker 16 (58:02):
YouTube bag Man's Okay, we'll go to break here again,

Why not Jordan Love they just came why not JJ McCarthy.
Speaker 6 (01:05:16):
They just came straight from the nails.
Speaker 2 (01:05:19):
I was just gonna say they maybe they did nine number.
It's not number, you just it's I call him nine.
That's what I call him.
Speaker 6 (01:05:28):
Dates are real easy with Caleb. He just takes him
to the nail hut.
Speaker 2 (01:05:33):
Yep. It's so odd.
Speaker 1 (01:05:36):
You know what.
Speaker 2 (01:05:36):
You know what's stranger than that? Let me tell you
what a stranger than that. When when he was at
USC Kirk Kurbstreet sat him down and they talked about it,
and he's like Kirk and Kirk and Kirk Herbstreets like,
oh yeah, it's really cool, and you know all this
other stuff deep down inside. I guarantee he got in
the car with his dog in the back seat going
that's weird. Sorry, man, that's strange. That's an odd thing.
(01:06:00):
It just out of curiosity. You take your your slight
swipes at MSU, and I know you did it for Anson,
for for Michigan fans, and you're a big Michigan fan.
You didn't go there, but you're a big Michigan fan.
You do concentrate on Michigan State, even though you try
constantly tell us that they don't worry you at all.
Why why do you take such great concentration on them.
Speaker 7 (01:06:19):
It's just because when I know it's on brand for
Michigan fans, especially when they didn't go to Michigan.
Speaker 1 (01:06:26):
You do.
Speaker 2 (01:06:26):
You do the same thing. You do the same thing.
Speaker 6 (01:06:28):
But I'm alumni.
Speaker 2 (01:06:29):
Oh that doesn't it does, Oh it does, all right.
So you can't have an opinion on anything other than
unless you've gone there is what you're saying.
Speaker 6 (01:06:37):
See that need It makes no sense that you do
not go to the rival of you have an issue.
Speaker 5 (01:06:47):
Hey, I still root for I got up and I
stayed up and watched Tuesday night Maction and when they
beat Buffalo, So I still I still root and watched them.
Speaker 4 (01:06:53):
You football, So but you went there so that yeah,
And I have friends of the team still but yeah, no, and.
Speaker 7 (01:07:01):
A friend on the team who laid out the CMU
clothing for Connor Stallions revelation this week.
Speaker 2 (01:07:09):
Anyway, go ahead, uh.
Speaker 4 (01:07:13):
Because I think Michigan State.
Speaker 1 (01:07:16):
Just little bro.
Speaker 5 (01:07:17):
They stay do little bro things, and they got more
vacated wins. By the way, Jonathan Smith has zero Big
ten wins and his whole career up to this point
just put it mess.
Speaker 6 (01:07:28):
The whole brother here's Tom Brady, Jordan's with the little brother, the.
Speaker 2 (01:07:34):
Whole just the whole little brother stuff is really old, Okay,
it really is. It's really and the other thing to
do and the other thing and the other thing is
I would agree with Anson only in that sense. If
you went to that school and you want to use
that line, go right ahead. If you didn't go to
that school, that's a tough one to cross as far
as I'm concerned. That's just my opinion of that.
Speaker 6 (01:07:56):
Boy.
Speaker 9 (01:07:56):
I would agree with that the popularity of the sport
was because of those people. So Michigan State is what
it is not because of what they've done, but because
of the popularity of the people that supports them.
Speaker 8 (01:08:07):
That went there. But the vast majories, well there's a
lot of support college sports who never went to these schools.
Speaker 2 (01:08:12):
Agreed with that, Yes, I don't disagree with that what
we got, But I would say, if you're saying that
the popularity of the program is because of the people
just who went there, I would strongly disagree.
Speaker 8 (01:08:21):
You know, I'm saying it's because the people who.
Speaker 2 (01:08:23):
Didn't go there. Yes, Yeah, so we're on the same page.
Speaker 8 (01:08:26):
Yeah, That's where I'm at.
Speaker 2 (01:08:27):
So people you emplaining about what is it Walmart Wolverine
and Speedways party or whatever they want to call it personally. Personally,
I don't care. You don't like however you want. You
don't have to go to school there. You can like them. Okay,
there's there's teams. We just got done talking about this.
Do you guys really like watching the Pistons play?
Speaker 1 (01:08:45):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (01:08:45):
Do you like watching the Lions play? So my wife's
got friends or family out east they like the Lions.
Oh god, sorry, you don't live in Detroit. You can't
like the Lions. That's ridiculous.
Speaker 6 (01:08:55):
Lot to like about the Lions like about.
Speaker 2 (01:08:58):
The Lions, and I think a lot like about the
way they handle their business. We've said this on a
regular basis. Brian Branch does something stupid on the road
and he admits it. Okay, we want to cut it down,
but he admits it and becomes accountable. John Morton is
the offensive coordinator. Last week had the play calling duties
taken away from him, and Dan Campbell was very successful
(01:09:21):
against the twenty ninth ranked defensive team in the National
Football League, Washington. It would be idiocy if Dan Campbell
didn't continue to call plays, but John Morton met with
the media recently and that's where all the questioning lie
to Detroit's offensive coordinator.
Speaker 8 (01:09:37):
Listen to this just last week.
Speaker 2 (01:09:39):
You know, obviously when Dan took the play calling, can
you just walk us through how that went for you.
I know that's important for you to be a play
caller given it getting a second shot. So when he
took it from you, how did you?
Speaker 18 (01:09:49):
I mean, I'm not going to say exactly how it
went down because that's private, but I fully support it. Listen, man,
you know I've been doing this for a while. I've
been with head coach. There are offensive guys play callers,
so I'm used to that.
Speaker 2 (01:10:05):
You know.
Speaker 18 (01:10:05):
I feel very prideful the things that I was doing.
There's some things that I got to learn, no doubt,
just like everybody else. But listen, I want to do
whatever it takes to win. I mean, as soon as
you said, I'm like, all right, let's.
Speaker 1 (01:10:18):
Go what we got to do.
Speaker 18 (01:10:19):
That's the way I've always been in this business. I've
been cut six times, I've been fired.
Speaker 15 (01:10:24):
Man.
Speaker 18 (01:10:24):
You just march on, OK. Because it's always about the team.
It always is. It ain't about me and goals and
this and that. Now the ultimate goal is to win
the Super Bowl. So I didn't even blink twice because
I know my role here.
Speaker 2 (01:10:41):
I love that, I really do. It's always baffled me
how in athletics we want athletes to be held accountable.
Just come out and say it, Just come out and apologize,
Just come out and admit you were wrong. Whatever. Right,
We got a guy there that has to be really hard.
First and foremost. We have no idea how challenging that
(01:11:02):
is to have a public job stripped from you and
then have to go out and face the music. And
you know, damn well. And that wasn't the only question.
That was Dave bri Ketta of the Free Press, friend
of the program. He's not the only one who asked
the damn question, all right. There was plenty of follow ups,
and John Morton stood there and talked about it. Not
many people can do that. People forget when he talked
(01:11:25):
after the Minnesota loss, and people were thinking that he
threw his team under the bus because he said, look,
we need protection. What they conveniently left out is he
said it's all fixable. They need protection. Is the same
thing the four of us said after the Minnesota loss.
He's living it. So he's just telling us stuff and
(01:11:46):
reinforcing what we originally believe. We just didn't think it
was his place to say it. We want players to
take accountability. This dude's taking accountability and he's saying all
that matters to me is winning. Those are the right things.
We just got done bitching about aj Brown earlier this
week because he's never satisfied three catches thirteen yards. But
your team won. You should be happy. Remember what Jamison
(01:12:08):
Williams did earlier this year. He wasn't getting targeted. Everybody
asked me. He's like, hey man, we're winning, and we thought,
good for you. Why doesn't John Morton get a little
more credit for handling his business the way he asks.
Speaker 6 (01:12:20):
Coold I just got the memo, we are standing. We're
standing the second hour here.
Speaker 2 (01:12:27):
No, those two guys are sitting. I'm standing because my
ass hurts.
Speaker 6 (01:12:30):
I'm standing now too because my ass is swampy. So uh,
let's just the very last thing he said is the
most important.
Speaker 7 (01:12:39):
No, your role, period, and your role is to help
this team win a championship, no matter what it is
that you're asked to do.
Speaker 6 (01:12:49):
He was asked to not call plays anymore.
Speaker 7 (01:12:51):
Most human beings take that the wrong way, right. The
fact is is Dan Campbell understands men, He understands human being.
Speaker 6 (01:13:00):
He understands football.
Speaker 7 (01:13:01):
But from when he's hired his guys as coaches, to
the players that he's brought in and developed and all
of that.
Speaker 6 (01:13:09):
He understands people.
Speaker 7 (01:13:10):
He understands how to motivate and empower them. And this
is a guy that just had a major, major portion
of his career taken from him and handles it in stride.
Speaker 6 (01:13:21):
That whole interview completely encapsulates.
Speaker 2 (01:13:24):
What it is to be a line Now, that's right,
that's well said. Yeah, I think you know John Morton's
still involved. I got a text from a friend this
morning who said John Morton is equivalent to you know,
Carlo and Godfather or whatever, And I said, listen, if
you don't think he's involved, he's absolutely involved in many
(01:13:46):
of the decisions, just not game day calling plays. He's
still giving I believe from talking with offensive coordinators who
I know he's still giving Dan Campbell. Hey, here's six
or seven plays on third down and four from our
own thirty five that we like you choose. Okay, here's
another six plays when we're at the Philadelphia twenty eight
(01:14:09):
yard line and it's third down and seven. All right,
So he's plenty involved. He's just not making that final determination.
He's not making that final call on game day.
Speaker 7 (01:14:19):
Out of the three hundred and seventy two duties that
he has as an offensive coordinator, now he has three
hundred and seventy one.
Speaker 2 (01:14:25):
Yeah, that's it, right, that's it. So it's continuing. So
big game Sunday night and feel free with game. Yeah,
big game of the week? Feel free? Is it?
Speaker 6 (01:14:34):
I in my opinion?
Speaker 7 (01:14:35):
And I'll tell you, you gave me four games here
to start. Yeah, so I want to hell of a slate,
So I still call him that one.
Speaker 2 (01:14:40):
Yeah, so I want to do that. I want to
take a look at these four games, folks, and I
want to know what you think. And then we'll for
sure dive into lines and keys to the victory and
so on and so forth. But I'd love to know
what you think is the biggest game on the NFL slate.
Speaker 1 (01:14:55):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:14:56):
I hope people can, you know, not always vote with
their heart and recognize some of the other big games.
Here are the four Ryan's got them. He's gonna put
them up here on the board. Here are the four.
So it's obviously Detroit and Philly. Okay, that's one of them.
That's the Sunday night game, all right. There's the two quarterbacks,
mobile quarterback versus the non mobile quarterback. Yeah, the really
(01:15:19):
good throwing quarterback against the not so great throwing quarterback.
There's a lot of there's a lot of a lot
of different ways we can look at that, all right,
So that's one of them. Next would be what Okay,
the Rams and the Seahawks tie to top the NFC West.
This team right here, Seattle has won ten consecutive road games.
(01:15:44):
That's the most in the NFL. This team up here,
the Rams, led by your former Lions quarterback. He has
he's the only quarterback in NFL history to have three
straight regular season games of four touchdowns and no interceptions.
All Right, I don't know if he's the MVP. I
think if you've voted today, he would be. Although Drake
(01:16:05):
May's performance just one touchdown last night, still the.
Speaker 6 (01:16:08):
Way that they're kicking everybody, Jonathan Taylor's.
Speaker 2 (01:16:11):
And Jonathan Taylor's fantastic. So that's the second game I'm
asking you to review. The third game is Kansas City
and Denver. And here's the reason I bring this up. Obviously,
it's AFC West, the top team is starting to pull away.
And by the way, they've won ten straight at home.
That's the longest in the NFL. This team led by
(01:16:32):
the guy nobody in Detroit likes Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs.
They lose this game Anson, they're five and five, and okay,
and here's the thing, they have to wiggle their way
if at all, on the road if they want to
get back to the super Bowl. So that's the reason
I bring that one up. And then the last one
that I think a lot of people probably don't care
(01:16:53):
quite as much about is Buffalo and Tampa. And the
only reason I bring this up is because everybody said
the super Bowl goes through Josh Allen, the reigning MVP,
and Ralph Wilson Stadium or whatever the hell it's called. Yeah,
that's what everybody was telling us before the season. It's
funny because people before the season was also telling us
Green Bay is going to be really good. Jordan Love
(01:17:15):
is going to be in the conversation for MVP. You know,
look at how good their coaching staff is, and so
on and so forth, and now there's rumblings that Matt
la Floor might be actually fired. Anyway, Anyway, you've got
to really what many people will consider still pretty good teams. Okay,
so those are four I think marquee games. What is
most interesting to you? And which do you think is
(01:17:37):
the biggest?
Speaker 8 (01:17:38):
I was gonna say, how would you guys rank it?
Those four games?
Speaker 7 (01:17:41):
I'll start, I'd go Detroit Philly first, Denver Case second, Rams,
and Seattle third. And then I'll agree with you Buffalo
and Tampa Bay. I mean, you had this story in
Tampa Bay. You know, Baker Mayfield MVP season to start.
They've fallen off a little bit. Josh Allen always in
the MVP conversation, But I think that the interest in
(01:18:02):
those two teams has waned over the last month. You
look at the Rams in Seattle game, Plenty of intrigue there,
but the two for me, it's it's my prediction.
Speaker 6 (01:18:12):
Back to June, Kansas City, Detroit.
Speaker 7 (01:18:14):
I know people want the Bills and Detroit, but no
one wants to watch two losers, all right. They want
to see David and they they want to see David
and they want to see Goliath right period.
Speaker 2 (01:18:26):
So what do you mean two losers just because neither
one of them won the Super Bowl?
Speaker 6 (01:18:29):
Well, one of them lost. I think it really does
from a marketing standpoint.
Speaker 2 (01:18:33):
Jim Kelly, none of those people are there.
Speaker 8 (01:18:35):
No one of them is going to get is going
to get something.
Speaker 2 (01:18:38):
It's like that that makes it. I think that's what
makes it intrigued.
Speaker 6 (01:18:41):
But no, to me, no, there's no spoiler. I know
one of the underdogs is finally going to get there.
I need them to get over a mountain. And I
think that the NFL understands that that's more profitable to
put the David against the How do you know it's
all about money?
Speaker 7 (01:18:59):
Man?
Speaker 8 (01:18:59):
I mean, like I hold you to go to Kansas City.
Speaker 2 (01:19:02):
You realize they're gonna draw people and make money no
matter what.
Speaker 6 (01:19:04):
Right Kansas City chiefs. The NFL wasn't letting Kansas City
go two and four, all right, and they're not gonna let.
Speaker 7 (01:19:10):
Them go five and five. Kansas City one will win
this game. Put your money on the money line.
Speaker 8 (01:19:16):
All right.
Speaker 7 (01:19:17):
They want Kansas City and maybe Detroit, but I still
think it comes down to.
Speaker 2 (01:19:21):
Phild Would they want Detroit. Why would they want to lose.
Speaker 7 (01:19:23):
Her because people were in Massachusetts like watching the Lion shep.
Speaker 6 (01:19:30):
Somebody told me that today, who are they? Yes, my man,
Ryan's on point.
Speaker 2 (01:19:36):
Well, I would argue that I would say I would
say Kansas City Denver won for me, because, like I said,
if Kansas City loses this game, they're five and five,
and not only are they guaranteed to have to go
on the road through the playoffs, which I think they
can do, but they may not make the playoffs. You've
got the AFC North winner, You've got Indie, You've got
(01:19:58):
New England, You've got Possibly, You've got obviously Denver and
the Chargers are ahead of them. Denver's won seventh straight,
the Chargers won three in a row. They go five
and five. That is deep trouble for the Chiefs. So
that's why I think it's number one. Number two, I
would say Detroit, Philly, Detroit is this is the outsiders.
(01:20:22):
Detroit is looking for the Marquie win. What's their Marquie
win right now? None at the time at Baltimore.
Speaker 8 (01:20:28):
Baltimore, Yeah, okay, time, that's at the time right now.
Speaker 2 (01:20:31):
Okay, So if that's the case, though, We've got to
use that logic with all the other teams that say,
you know what, this was a marquee win for you, okay,
because at the time we thought it was really good,
it ends up not being so great. Although they've won
three straight, they're probably going to win their division. Would
that change your mind back to yes, it's a marquee win.
I don't know, but this definitely would be a marque Well.
Speaker 9 (01:20:53):
Yeah, okay, you beat the contended the champs, to beat
the people currently leading the NBC.
Speaker 2 (01:20:58):
Yeah, absolutely. My number three would be the Rams and Seahawks.
The reason it's number three is they play again, Okay,
this is one of two meetings between the two teams,
and then last would be Buffalo and Tampa. Tampa plays
in a week division. They're gonna win that anyway. Buffalo,
I think they're good enough to still make the playoffs.
But look, everybody wants home field advantage. They think it's
(01:21:20):
a big deal. I don't think it's as big a
deal as everybody makes it out to be. But that's
how I would rank them, those four in a row.
So love to hear your thoughts in the check.
Speaker 9 (01:21:28):
Oh yeah, I was gonna say I actually have Buffalo
and Tampa last, just like you. It was tough for
me in terms of, you know, bow Knicks versus Patrick Mahomes.
I'm becoming like a slappy for whatever reason for bow
Knicks and as a maturing sports fan, like as a
young fan, never did that, but now I'm like, I
like this guy, like what they got going on. But
(01:21:49):
I think I put them third second, you know, and
this is my own Lions you know visions going on second.
I actually have the Lions and the Eagles, okay first,
because I believe we're gonna run into one of these
two teams in the future.
Speaker 8 (01:22:05):
I do believe the Rams and the Seahawks.
Speaker 9 (01:22:07):
You're talking about the Seahawks that have turned themselves into
what looks like a defensive juggernaut right now, that's one
that should have every Lions fan you know, and there
they're intended is up right now.
Speaker 6 (01:22:18):
Show Honestly, like, that's kind of a team I want
to see the least.
Speaker 19 (01:22:23):
That moo is just like that defense is really good
to lose to Stafford, But I don't really want to
play the Sea Chickens because that's a team that's kind
of kind of been our kryptonite.
Speaker 7 (01:22:35):
You know, like we've had some good playoff teams that
beat us. You know, come back from beating Kansas City.
Everybody's riding high. No more face masks after that one.
Speaker 2 (01:22:47):
I wouldn't want to travel all the way out to Seattle.
I do believe they're building can make a difference. It's
not the ultimate, but that's not where I think Detroit
would be would be beneficially going up there. I don't
This sounds very arrogant, but I don't worry about another
team against Detroit. I think Detroit's good enough to beat
anybody in the National Football League. I think the Super Bowl, Yeah,
(01:23:08):
but I think I think the Rams are the scariest
team in the NFC right now.
Speaker 6 (01:23:14):
The least.
Speaker 2 (01:23:14):
Yeah, I think they're They're really tough. When I think
of Denver kool Aid, you bring up bon Nicks fair enough,
because he's been really good. I think more about guys
like Zach Allen, and I think of you know, Greg
Greenlaw and Nick Benito, and I think of their defense
more than I think of both.
Speaker 6 (01:23:33):
But they've been really just been getting better since.
Speaker 2 (01:23:36):
Yeah, I think the NFL has got to be really
happy with this many really marquee games like, there's people
who are frustrated a little bit that Seattle, l A.
Is not the Sunday night game, Like, how do you
how do you get Detroit and Philadelphia in the Sunday
night game? How important? I was talking with the Philadelphia
writer earlier today and I said, who does this game
(01:23:57):
mean more to the Lions of the Eagles, And he
was quick to respond, it's definitely the Lions. Definitely Lions lose. Okay.
Can you imagine, by the way, if they lost in
Chicago one, Well.
Speaker 7 (01:24:10):
We're in a hell of a lot different division than
the Philadelphia Eagles find themselves.
Speaker 8 (01:24:15):
In right now.
Speaker 7 (01:24:16):
Sure, Commis are terrible, Giants are hurt, and uh well
the Cowgirls nobody's worried about.
Speaker 6 (01:24:21):
So yeah, it means a lot more to them record
wise in Detroit.
Speaker 2 (01:24:27):
But the problem is is I'm just saying, I mean,
I'm just saying, can you imagine in Chicago plays at Minnesota?
There you could see a scenario. Honestly, this is unbelievable
to us. I know how you're thinking, No, we're Detroit
loses and Chicago's leading the damned division.
Speaker 6 (01:24:45):
If green Bay won and we lost, yeah, you know,
if green Bay and the Bears one and we lose,
weren't third in the division.
Speaker 2 (01:24:53):
No, I understand that. What I'm saying is if Detroit
lost Chicago one, yeah, green Bay factories in, but Chicago's
in first place because right now green Bay is in third.
Speaker 1 (01:25:04):
Point.
Speaker 6 (01:25:04):
Dan base can't handle a six and four Lions squad.
Speaker 2 (01:25:08):
Well, so kool Aid knows me really well. It always
goes back to expectation. What was your expectation before the year.
Did you think they would lose four games?
Speaker 6 (01:25:17):
I thought they'd lose five.
Speaker 2 (01:25:18):
Okay, then why would you think do you think most
Lions fans felt like they would lose about four game?
I thought they would win thirteen games. That means they'd
be thirteen and four. How they get to the four
I don't never matter, It doesn't it doesn't really matter, right,
And I think that would be good enough to win
the division. And at the time, maybe I could be
wrong here, I thought it would be good enough to
(01:25:38):
win the conference. So if you think most Lions fans,
you included, they were going to lose four or five games,
why would they Why would you say they can't handle
a six and fourteen because they can't.
Speaker 6 (01:25:52):
They can't.
Speaker 7 (01:25:52):
They can handle a ten and four chep Ryan Kell
to say, yeah, that's they again.
Speaker 6 (01:26:00):
I agree with you. It doesn't matter where they come.
Speaker 7 (01:26:02):
In the middle, late, early, whatever, but a six and
fourteen is just going to absolutely destroy this town for
a week. A nine and fourteen, No, ten and fourteen.
Speaker 2 (01:26:13):
Will all be fine with you, fair enough, but that's.
Speaker 6 (01:26:19):
It has the crown too. You know, we want to take.
Speaker 2 (01:26:22):
Well and like what we just talked about, you want
to see whether we whoever we consider to be that
marquee matchup or not. You want to see that notch
on the bedpost that tells everybody that was a good get.

Speaker 8 (01:34:07):
Hey we bet.
Speaker 2 (01:34:10):
Smash that like button anything in the chat kool aid
that you see, jump in and let us know keys
to victory for Philadelphia? Can I just give you one
like people can bring in you know the quarterbacks. That's
you know, Johnny obvious. I think the matchup is Tate Ratlige, Graham,
Glasgow and Awaseka up front o Kyoti Oyseka against the
(01:34:35):
front four of Philadelphia. That's not trailblazing, that's not earth shattering.
This is not the only place you can get it.
But I think that is an area I watch that
usually when I watch football games, that's where I usually
watch anyway, that is an area I'll be really dialed
in on Sunday night. I think it's going to be
the key to everything Detroit tries to do offensively.
Speaker 7 (01:34:56):
I agree, I'm gonna focus that point a little bit more.
And it their edges aren't as good as they have
been in the past. And Philly Jylex Hunt's having a
great year.
Speaker 2 (01:35:05):
Jalen Phillips had a really good debut.
Speaker 7 (01:35:07):
Yes see, it's all over the place, but it's those
it's the middle guys there that concern me. The inexperience
and the health issues of our interior offensive line.
Speaker 6 (01:35:17):
I think you can hit the nail on the head.
I want those guys inside to be controlling the line of.
Speaker 7 (01:35:21):
Scrimmage because this is a game that that if Philly's
running the ball a lot and it's close, it's going
to play into their favor if they have to be.
Speaker 2 (01:35:28):
They want a low scoring game because if you.
Speaker 6 (01:35:31):
Ask Jalen Hurts to win this game through the air,
it's not as good odds.
Speaker 2 (01:35:38):
I would remind us though, against Kansas City, what did
Detroit do? They possessed the ball that first drive is
like nine.
Speaker 7 (01:35:46):
Minutes, say, the same thing they have they had like
ten more minutes of possession.
Speaker 2 (01:35:51):
Yeah, which usually I don't give a crap about. I
really don't. Usually you're winning, No, I care about what
you do with the football, not how long had it? Okay,
So for me that's most important. But when you're going
on the road in this case, like in Kansas City
or in this case in Philadelphia, Philadelphia's got a lot
of weapons, man, I mean they've got quick strikeability. They
(01:36:12):
might have the second best roster offensive skill set in
the NFC when healthy. I think Detroit's number one, who
would be number two Rams? Maybe fair. I would give
Philly the edge at running back. I would give the
Rams edge of quarterback and wide receivers probably, So maybe
it's the Rams two Philly three. But they're in the conversation, okay,
(01:36:35):
so they can score with you. I think Detroit wants
to keep them off the field.
Speaker 1 (01:36:40):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (01:36:40):
It's not like Detroit's scared of them, but I think
that should be part of perhaps the play there for
the Lions like it was against Case.
Speaker 7 (01:36:48):
And we'll see them dialing at more explosive plays or
attempts at them than I think we would have expected.
Although I do agree with you that they want to
keep the ball out of their hands and and win
that time of possession. I think early scores for this
Lion's team, to get the Philly out of their comfort
zone of running the ball a lot.
Speaker 6 (01:37:08):
Is the key to this one.
Speaker 2 (01:37:09):
For the line and playing from behind like Detroit, what
I thought was so good in their win over Washington.
It's not just the forty four points and the no
sacks and the no tackles for loss and then no
pulp pumps, right, But because I don't, I don't. I
don't mind punting sometimes if I'm starting my own five
yard line, sure yeah, and I get to the thirty
(01:37:31):
five and then I got punted away. For me, that's
flipping the field, and that's that's a win to a
certain extent, especially with Jake Bates. Absolutely so. I think
what I liked most about that game against Washington was
the fact that Detroit did not stare at a third
down and long very often, something they It's what hurt
them against Minnesota. I think it's what rewarded them against Washington.
(01:37:54):
And if you told me they were gonna have something similar,
okay without me looking at the number of points they scored,
I would take that every single day for the Lions.
Speaker 6 (01:38:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:38:02):
I think the Lions have an advantage in this game
just because if they're behind, they got a guy that
can sling the rock and get them back into the game.
If they get ahead, you got a game manager that
knows how to not turn the ball over when he's
not behind. In Jared Goff. I'm just not sure that
Jalen hurts. If they get ahead, it's gonna be real
(01:38:24):
tough to beat Philly. But if they fall behind the
way that that receiving corps is, they're they're not meshing
with their quarterback. Right now, seems like DeVante Smith is
starting to play a little bit better. Obviously Goddard's having
his best career ever, but in terms of that passing game,
it's just not what we've seen in the past. They
(01:38:46):
get down, hurts us in trouble Golf gets down, he's
right at home.
Speaker 2 (01:38:52):
You would say, you're not saying Jared Goff's a game manager,
are you. You're just saying he can.
Speaker 7 (01:38:59):
Play that role when when they're ahead and they dial
down the you know what kind of attempts they're making
and it becomes more conservative.
Speaker 6 (01:39:06):
He's fantastic at that.
Speaker 7 (01:39:08):
When he's down and they're pushing and they're trying to
get the ball downfield on the wrong day is when
he makes his mistakes, especially in the cold outdoors. So
that's the situation that we're looking at this Sunday night,
Philadelphia outdoors.
Speaker 6 (01:39:22):
Going to be cold.
Speaker 7 (01:39:23):
So I think that if he can get himself a
little bit of a lead, he can turn into a
conservative play caller at that point and they can just beat.
Speaker 2 (01:39:31):
The hell out of the pivodelph If I told you, guys,
if I or if I asked you guys, where do
you think the Lions rank in terms of time of possession?
If you value that statistic? If I said to you,
where do you think they rank this year? What would
you say?
Speaker 8 (01:39:49):
So in at least top ten, top seven?
Speaker 1 (01:39:51):
Maybe?
Speaker 7 (01:39:51):
See, I think they're only top fifteen because there's some
weirdness in the games that they lost at They won
time of possession, but a lot of the games that
they won this year were very very close, and in fact,
they actually had the ball a little bit less.
Speaker 2 (01:40:03):
All Right, So kool aids saying seven, you're saying fifteen, right, twelfth,
they're four? Oh okay, okay, bad, they're four. Based on
team rankings dot Com, it's the Chargers, Buffalo, Houston and
then Detroit. Now let me take it a step further.
If I said, where does Detrent rank on the road
in time of possession? What would you say?
Speaker 6 (01:40:27):
Fifteen?
Speaker 2 (01:40:28):
Fifteen? Jesus right, this is gonna go.
Speaker 6 (01:40:32):
They're gonna be higher than we think.
Speaker 4 (01:40:33):
I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go nine.
Speaker 8 (01:40:36):
Yeah, I'm still going pretty high. At top seventy.
Speaker 6 (01:40:39):
I was just gonna say, because I know that they
on the road, they pounded.
Speaker 2 (01:40:43):
Thirty thirty three minutes. Again, Buffalo's second at thirty two
point or thirty road shop. That's an interesting stat, isn't it? Off?
Like I try it to get too stad happy sometimes,
But that's an interesting.
Speaker 6 (01:40:57):
I'm happy about that stat.
Speaker 2 (01:40:58):
Ower Stead Yeah. Last year, if I told you this
is the last one I promised last year, where did Detroit?
Where did Detroit rank in terms of time of possession.
Speaker 1 (01:41:09):
Speaker 15 (01:41:10):
Three?
Speaker 2 (01:41:11):
In twenty twenty four, where did they run?
Speaker 8 (01:41:13):
Three?
Speaker 4 (01:41:14):
They're going to be lower.
Speaker 7 (01:41:15):
Ah, they score so fast they scored fifteen or they
won fifteen games.
Speaker 6 (01:41:19):
Though they score so fast they won fifteen games.
Speaker 8 (01:41:22):
I would believe it.
Speaker 9 (01:41:23):
I don't overthink, but just a little lower.
Speaker 2 (01:41:25):
Okay, I'm gonna go eight three two? Whoa higher Philadelphia
than Detroit. I found that very interesting.
Speaker 8 (01:41:35):
That is very interesting.
Speaker 2 (01:41:38):
We all know about the hostile environment, by the way.
I think a lot of that has to do with
the fact that they're a really good running football hell yeah, okay.
Speaker 6 (01:41:44):
Especially with that offensive line last year.
Speaker 1 (01:41:46):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:41:46):
Yeah, so and really I think the offensive line I've
been okay with it. You know, we had a problem
in the Minnesota game. Not every offensive line has been
really good every single week. Even Detroit's offensive line wasn't
great every single week last year. It was their identity,
but they weren't great every single week. There's been some
hiccups for sure, But overall, I think most people are
happy with Penney Sool. They're happy with Tate Ratlage. For
(01:42:09):
a rookie to do what he's doing right now is
pretty impressive. Graham Glasgow, he's had a couple of stinkers,
but you know, like I said, a lot of guys
have and then you know, Taylor Decker and the left
guard's been rotated just a little bit because because of injury.
We know that Philadelphia, they'll tell you this, because they
love patting themselves on the back about acting like idiots,
that it's a tough place to win, right, That's what
(01:42:31):
everybody says, Oh, the hostile environment. And I've been there, okay,
I mean pulling it on the bus, every single person
flipping you off, Okay. Personally, going to Oakland, I thought
was more intimidating, sure, okay than Philadelphia because people in
Philly love to say, oh, they threw snowballs, at Santa Claus.
Big deal. Okay, plenty of places have I'm sure Buffalo
(01:42:53):
did the same thing. How much of a factor do
you think that.
Speaker 6 (01:42:56):
Is going to Philly? Yeah for this team, Yeah, this
team loves war. I mean you heard you heard Dan
Campbell talking about his days going there and how they
were throwing stuff at it and he loved it.
Speaker 2 (01:43:08):
Don't spoil it. We have the sounds that we had
that come on.
Speaker 6 (01:43:12):
Yeah, I know we talked about it.
Speaker 2 (01:43:13):
Really nice to visit the production meeting.
Speaker 7 (01:43:15):
Okay, No, I think that this whole team absolutely, this
is like, this is probably the most excited they've been
for a game. Yeah, it's nice to wake up in
your own bed and have some cooking from your wife
and you know, drive thirty minutes down the road. But
this is the stuff that this Lion's team, this grit
filled squad loves. Again, it's comfortable to be at home,
(01:43:37):
but it's exciting to go to war on the road.
And that's exactly what this game is.
Speaker 2 (01:43:42):
Yeah, I love your thoughts on it. In the chat,
speaking of that, one Lion called it a must win.
We'll get to that. Plus Dan Campbell's thoughts on going
into enemy territory and just how challenging that can be.
If you've been on those types of scenarios, we'd love
to hear from it in the chat. I think for
me it might be probably when I was part of
(01:44:04):
Michigan football broadcasts on the road in Columbus, Okay, people
throwing batteries at you just because you've got an amazing
blue outfit and you've got headsets on and you're walking
around with a microphone on the sideline and people throw
I literally had to stop and say, hey, dude, I'm
part of the radio broadcast and you're throwing you know,
(01:44:25):
batteries at me. Makes no sense. It's absolutely stupid. But
if you've got an experience, we'd love to hear it
from you in the chat. Feel free. We will continue

Speaker 15 (01:49:15):
To We have a lot of guys that have played there.
Speaker 1 (01:49:17):
Okay, why do you think they'll eve Well, I just.
Speaker 15 (01:49:20):
Think, man, anybody when you're a competitor, you know, you
just love it. Man, you go on the road and
never it's it's you against everybody else, and it's it's
very clear that it's you against everybody else there, you know,
and it's there's a you know, there's just enough. You know,
I just mentioned this before you go someplace and then
they wave at you like, man, we're so happy you're
(01:49:41):
here to play against us. This is not one of
those places. That's that's it. It's as far it's as
far from that as you can possibly get. And it's
just I mean, I don't know. I love to play
in atmospheres like that, and I just know the type
of guys we have there. I think they're gonna eat
it up.
Speaker 2 (01:49:58):
I really do. He is the most real coach I've
ever seen. I've covered, I've heard a lot of coaches
in my career. He's the most real. Like I truly
believe he's excited, you know during that sound by kool Aid.
It's like, that's the most I've seen scud I truly,
And when after the loss and he's emotional, I believe
(01:50:19):
the tears ye after a loss, when he's really upset
and he blames himself, I believe he blames himself. I
don't think that's an act by any stretch. I think
he's the most authentic coach I've ever seen.
Speaker 7 (01:50:31):
Jimmy V Dicky v the only ones that I'd even
considered in the same conversation.
Speaker 6 (01:50:40):
He's so mad, it's.
Speaker 1 (01:50:42):
So mad, kolate.
Speaker 2 (01:50:44):
Why would you throw Dick vi telling.
Speaker 7 (01:50:46):
Because Dick vi Tell loved his Pistons. Because I bet
Dick by Tel cried after a game, and you know,
Dick vi Tell loved every single guy in that locker.
A hell of a sound by kool Aid. My man
had to coach a team with lightning bolts on his jersey.
Speaker 8 (01:51:04):
David bier Chef just did that the other day. Yeah,
it's winning though, telling them lightning bolts.
Speaker 9 (01:51:11):
At Williams for rescuing that those Pistols teams from having
the worst record of all time.
Speaker 2 (01:51:20):
You know, do you know why Dick fi Tel was
crying after Pistons games Because they say, because because he
was he had thirty four wins in his entire career
and it's two years. It's really it was a year
and twelve games. Because he's a character of himself. Dude,
he's a character. Yeah, he's he's a good fun analyst.
But as a coach, you can't even I mean, that's
(01:51:43):
that's blasphemous what you just did there. It is blasphemed
I do you.
Speaker 6 (01:51:47):
Know the only blasphemy I hear, yeah, over that way. Yeah,
it was just man, I gonna do that to Dicky
V kool Aid.
Speaker 9 (01:51:55):
ESPN just put out there, uh you know, uh tied
in sandel porta back out for Sunday Night's game versus
the Eagles.
Speaker 8 (01:52:01):
He's out out.
Speaker 2 (01:52:02):
So brock Wright gets a lot of play. And by
the way, he's he's pretty brock Wright's fine. I'm fine.
I don't I can't say that I necessarily want him
on the receiving end of all the passes and stuff.
I do think it takes something away from the Lions offense,
but I do I think brock Wright's have been a
very valuable player for this offense.
Speaker 6 (01:52:22):
That weapon up the middle, though, for me, is gonna
be a loss, that's for sure.
Speaker 9 (01:52:27):
It seems like he's he and golf has had a
much better connection this season than last, and that's fair
almost like a safety blanket or a reliability thing on
those first drives as of late, It's gonna be interesting
to see what the.
Speaker 2 (01:52:40):
Porter you're saying. Yeah, so Aiden Hutchinson calls it a
must win? Do you think it's a I hate that
phrase because I think it's never a must win until
you will get eliminated if you don't. But I understand
the why people say it sometimes. Do you think it's
a must win?
Speaker 7 (01:53:00):
I mean, listen, technically, this team just needs a seventh seed,
so technically it's not a must win. But for where
this franchise is at, who they want to be, and
who this fan base sees them as. For those three reasons, yes,
And on the other side of it, I think if
you're if you're you rooting for Philly, you have to
(01:53:21):
see it the same way.
Speaker 1 (01:53:22):
This is.
Speaker 7 (01:53:23):
This is bragging rights for the NFC East. Everybody thought
it was going to be the Lions last year. They
didn't get a chance to get that show down. They're
defending champs. I mean this for all the marbles right now,
even though the Lions will still get to the super
Bowl if they're a seventh seed.
Speaker 2 (01:53:38):
Yeah, I don't look at it as a as a
must win, but I think it's a really important game.
Without getting too technical, I think it's a really important
the most important game of the season for sure. And
I know coaches will say the most important game is
the next game. Great coaches say that, great players say
that they're right about that too, by the way, but
right now this is so going to be their most
(01:54:01):
difficult test. I think it's more difficult than going into
Kansas City because I don't think Kansas City is what
they were a few years ago. And I don't care
what anybody says. You don't want to go to Philly
in mid January, I don't know. Okay, if you've got
to go through the Eagles and you've got to go
to the Link, it makes it that much more difficult.
So I know it didn't help the lines a year ago,
(01:54:22):
but anything you can possibly do to get those opponents
at home. I understand why Aiden Hutchinson said it, but
I think you and I would agree it's probably not
the greatest thing to say to the media because then
if you happen to come up short, not like he
thinks this way, but if you happen to come up short,
what is the media you said this was a must win?
Now what well?
Speaker 6 (01:54:42):
And to your point, by definition, six and three has
never a must win situation.
Speaker 2 (01:54:47):
Yeah right, let's hit that mail bag in any super
chats before we get out of here and have a
great weekend. We hope everybody else has the opportunity to
have a great weekend and enjoy themselves.
Speaker 8 (01:54:57):
Go ahead, Yeah, definitely, we do have a super chat
in here.
Speaker 9 (01:55:00):
Kenny Powers with the two dollars supertat just really asking
the game that the question that you guys are kind
of going over is asking is this a prove it
game for the Lions this weekend?
Speaker 8 (01:55:10):
I think maybe that's a little bit different, a little
bit different.
Speaker 2 (01:55:13):
I like the way he phrased, I mean, I really
do it is a proved game, Kenny Powers, is really it?
Speaker 4 (01:55:22):
Really?
Speaker 2 (01:55:22):
It's a really good take. It is a it is
a proved game, because I think there's still some people.
Most people have the Lions somewhere like six seven in
their power rankings. I think Tom Brady had them at
nine in his latest so I get that he also
had the Colts at ten, so I get that, but
this proves something to anybody who may wonder if they're
(01:55:46):
of a roller coaster team.
Speaker 6 (01:55:49):
I have a question before we go further in the
mail bag. Have you seen Kenny Powers?
Speaker 2 (01:55:56):
My apologies, I have no.
Speaker 4 (01:55:59):
It's great, it's great. You should watch it.
Speaker 6 (01:56:01):
Okay, it's baseball shop, that is true.
Speaker 4 (01:56:04):
Okay, it's like the greatest picture of all times.
Speaker 7 (01:56:07):
It's like John Rocker on basically, it's it's worth who
stars in it?
Speaker 6 (01:56:15):
What's his name?
Speaker 4 (01:56:16):
Uh, he's I can't think of his name. Picture.
Speaker 2 (01:56:20):
Get that for a screen That doesn't help me.
Speaker 7 (01:56:23):
He's one of the bigger producers and comedians that are
putting together like.
Speaker 2 (01:56:29):
The I've seen Austin Powers. I haven't seen Nny Danny McBride. Yeah,
it doesn't help me. I know Trede McBride, I don't
know Danny mc I know Bak. I know Bake McBride
back in the day with the Saint Louis Cardinals. I
don't know Danny McBride, The.
Speaker 7 (01:56:43):

Speaker 6 (01:56:49):

Speaker 7 (01:56:50):

Speaker 2 (01:56:55):
Right, thank you, Long way around, Long way around. Get
me to the bottom line. Okay, that's where I get
in trouble all the time. With my wife.
Speaker 1 (01:57:02):
I do this all the time.
Speaker 2 (01:57:03):
She's like, shut up, Matt. You know what that is.
That's TV for wrap So she's got she's got a
story that she's telling him like this, Shut up, Matt,
wrap it up? All right, go ahead, don't do that,
kool aid, kool aid, don't do that.
Speaker 8 (01:57:19):
I'll sit here contemplating.
Speaker 2 (01:57:20):
I get I get in trouble. I get in trouble
quite a bit for that. Way too many times I'm
doing that, I'm behind somebody. Come on, man, I take that.
Speaker 1 (01:57:28):
Wrap it up. She knows it. Shut up.
Speaker 2 (01:57:32):
Don't be a jerk, man, there'll be a jerk.
Speaker 6 (01:57:35):
You want to eat tonight?
Speaker 2 (01:57:36):
Right?
Speaker 4 (01:57:36):
You know what?
Speaker 2 (01:57:36):
You could do that with some of your buddies. Though
your buddies will be like, what tells?
Speaker 1 (01:57:39):
That means? Wrap it up?
Speaker 13 (01:57:41):

Speaker 6 (01:58:20):
And there was so much better in New York.
Speaker 2 (01:58:21):
I tend to agree that there's so much you know,
Gabriel che cheese cheese Wizards, cheese Whiz is brutal for me.
I don't like him that way. I like the you
know whatever cheese you want to use, but make it,
you know, a slice. I agree hundred percent. All right,
