Brett Baier, Chief Political Anchor for Fox News, was interviewed about the American Century Championship broadcast on NBC from the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course. Baier speaks of the changing political landscape about two hours before Donald Trump was shot on Saturday, July 13, in Butler, PA. Speaker 1 (00:00):
Beautiful Lake Tahoe and Edge with Tahoe Golf Course at
the American Century Championship. I'm Dave Leonardi, Skier News publisher
and podcaster for Always Upright Podcasts.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Once again my.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
Pleasure to revisit last year is quick but poignant interview
episode with Brett Behar Chief Chief National Correspondent, Chief Political
There we go. I found it in my notes. Brett,
what do you think of the chorus? So you're playing
well better than last year? I believe actually last years.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Last year on Friday, I had really a lot of points.
I was like in third place. This was a slow
start for me. Yesterday, better today and I played better,
So that's that's good. These Greens are always tough, they're fast,
and it's fun to play in front of so many people.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
And how about at night, singing in front of people
at Harris.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
I haven't done the Harris yet. I did the karaoke
out back here at Edgewood, and I might show up
at Harris tonight.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
We'll see very versatile, talented person. Now let's talk a
little bit about history.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
Yeah, because we can.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
We can recite numbers.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
Benjamin Harrison in between the two Grover Cleveland Things. How
do you personally feel we're putting on such serious news
every night? Do you go to work saying what serious
thing is going to happen today? Who knows what's going
to happen today?

Speaker 2 (01:20):
What's your outlook?

Speaker 3 (01:21):
And how do you how do you just comport yourself
in such trying times?

Speaker 2 (01:25):
Yeah, thanks a Blastny Romo, Ladies and gentlemen paying off
his bet.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
So to your question, we are in Nevada, so betting
is legal.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
It is legal. No, we had a nice little friendly
wager that I won. But I think, listen, I take
it really seriously. I think that this moment in history
is important. I think people are paying attention and watching politics,
watching because there are choices to make, and what I'm
trying to do is provide both sides a chance to

(02:01):
tell their story and let the voters decide how they're
going to vote. So I take that seriously. I take
that hole trying to get down the middle thing seriously,
and hopefully we're doing it every day.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
Well, a lot of Vielways think you're doing it every day,
so that's good.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
What did you think of the first debate?

Speaker 2 (02:20):
I was surprised. I was shocked by President Biden's you know,
comportment and how he handled himself. And I think you
know that George Clooney letter about the fundraiser that was
a couple of weeks before that, behind the scenes, I
think total lot and that's a big name in Democratic politics.
Now he seems like he's trying to stay in. I

(02:43):
think the Democratic Party is making their own decision, and
we'll see if he does. There's a lot of pressure
on him, and in the meantime, swing state polls have
kind of turned a little bit a couple of points
at least towards the former president. So right now it's
his advantage. But we have a long way to go
before November.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
And you start on Monday in Milwaukee for the Republican Convention.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
I leave tomorrow. I start tomorrow night anchoring specials starting
in Milwaukee.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
So you're playing here tomorrow and.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
I'll be anchoring in Milwaukee night.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
That's that's why you are the chief political anchor, that's right,
and chief political travelers.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
Well, I had to squeeze this in here, and Fox
was gracious enough to get me the time to do
American Century, which is really my favorite tournament of the year.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
Well, I think it's everyone's favorite tournament of the year,
like you, as soon as I know it from John Miller,
what the dates are, circle them on the calendar and
build the.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
Summer trip around it.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
Yeah, it's awesome.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
Yeah, Jonathan Thomas American Century, NBC. Everybody here is just spectacular.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
They really are top notch.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
Now I think this may be wrong, because I think
I had it wrong.

Speaker 1 (03:51):
Last year you had four New York Times bestsellers, or
have six, six.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
New York Times bestsellers, and the seventh is hopefully New
York Times bestseller coming out next year.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
So I was thinking there was one in the works
about this.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
Political season, not about this political season, but about one
long time ago, Teddy Roosevelt. And so it's always good
to go back in history and look backwards because oftentimes
we'll be similar places again in the future.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
Republican Teddy Roosevelt or bull moose Teddy Roosevelt.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
Both we got both. It's more of his his journey
to find out why foreign policy is important and walking
with a big stick.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
Well looking at you know this situation happening before where
you had a president against another president in eighteen eighty eight.
I think it was yep, with Benjamin Harrison and Grover Cleveland.
So history is repeating itself a little twists and turns
to keep things interesting.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
Yeah, it's going to be fascinating. I mean, no matter
what your politics are, it's going to be fascinating to
see in coming weeks how this turns out. I mean,
it's a big decision. We go one way, we go
the other way, and I think it's gonna get messy
before November. Basically both sides are going to say the
other side is the worst thing ever.

Speaker 3 (05:09):
Oh that's happening.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
Yeah, most most people I talked to, probably more than half,
you know, are not psyched about the choices they have
that it's these two guys. But it is what it is,
and we're gonna cover it fairly well.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
Thank you very much for your time once again, Brett Bair.
Good luck in Milwaukee, good luck tomorrow night, on tomorrow
afternoon on the course. Thank you, and we look forward
to seeing you again not only on TV, but once
again here and like thanks Dave
