Speaker 1 (00:20):
Welcome to Bruisers, a podcast about beer, coffee, booze and bruisers.
I'm your host, Rodye John and today we talked to
Jimmy and Brian Keith from the retro Rodeo. We talked
about how the fashion line the retro Rodeo started, how
they met, and so much more. This is such a
fun conversation. These guys grew up together in the city
of Houston, and they get into it about how they
did grow up together and where they met, and then
(00:41):
they also obviously started this fashion line together. So this
is an awesome interview and I loved it. So without
further ado, here is Jimmy and Brian Keith from the
retro Rodeo. I would like to welcome the show, Jimmy
(01:05):
and Brian Keith with Retro Rodeo.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
How are y'all doing today?
Speaker 3 (01:11):
Having us, Thanks for having us, dop.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
Thanks for being here. Yeah, Brian, you and I have
worked shows together here in the Arlington DFW area, and
then obviously I've been a fan of years for quet
out anyway, thank you, my brother.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
So I mean let's go, I mean, for those listening kind.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
Of pants the word picture, where's everybody at. What's every
body doing, Brian, let.
Speaker 4 (01:33):
You start, man, Uh well, hey, you know, of course
I am professional wrestler, Brian Keith, the Bounty Hunter. Wrestling
is my my game, and uh, this is what I do.
I have partner with my brother here. I'd say friend,
but that will be like two less of a demotion.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
Jim Bowles my brother.
Speaker 4 (01:53):
Yeah yeah, if I've known him since I was young,
super young, and partner with him, and we've created a
new brand called retro Rodeo. And here we are just
putting it out there and letting the world know and
letting them know where about, lett them get a glimpse
of what's going down. So, you know, Jimmy, Jimmy Rodeo,
you go ahead and introduce your sola baby.
Speaker 5 (02:12):
Thanks brother, Yeah, I'm so. I'm Jimmy. I'm one of.
Speaker 6 (02:17):
The two founders of retro Rodeo or the retro Rodeo.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
The Retrodo. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (02:23):
Yeah, trust me, we're gonna have to say that the.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
Yeah yeah, Google definitely told me that.
Speaker 5 (02:28):
Also.
Speaker 6 (02:31):
I'm here in Houston, Texas. I have a I just
have a real, real big love for street wear my
whole life. And that's how we kind of got to
this point today and uh yeah, I'm here in Houston
and we're just happy to be here and repping the
retro rodeo pretty hard.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
I love it now as much as this is just
an audio podcast, and but we're on video right now.
And Jimmy behind you. How many shoes do you actually own?
That's not even all of them, I imagine, No, I
imagine that's not even half of them.
Speaker 6 (03:07):
That is. I've actually scaled down quite a bit and
a lot.
Speaker 5 (03:12):
That is.
Speaker 7 (03:13):
That's yeah, that's like, I mean, there's still a few
that you know, but.
Speaker 6 (03:16):
I okay, to put a number on it, I would
say I was at like one ten.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
I was gonna say, what was the peak?
Speaker 6 (03:23):
Yeah, but I would say with the with with yet
kind of getting rid of everything, it's probably like eighty
seventy Now they'd say seventy.
Speaker 7 (03:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
Now, So I have friends that also collect Were you
buying for resell purposes or were you buying because you
were like, no, these are dope, I'm gonna actually wear them.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
No, I'm a collector, man, Okay, Okay, yeah.
Speaker 6 (03:49):
I know I'll resell in the sense of, like you know,
if I don't wear them for a little bit and
then obviously rid of them, but never never for reseale gotchacuse.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
I know there's so many different schools of thought on that.
And then uh you know obviously the the remake or
the someone say fakes, but uh, you know, the different
versions that not the not the original versions are also
very controversial as well about.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
Say, we like we like a bootleg every now and they,
or at least me, I don't know, they're cheaper. I mean, like,
what the hell that's a little boot leg every now
and then?
Speaker 4 (04:25):
It's too bad, you know, Like I think of like
the place the Air Force ones they would see through
you know, those were like you know, you remember what
those were going around those fare I just like because
they were.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
Like different colors when they were dropping. I think that
was like the cool part.
Speaker 5 (04:38):
You're like, yeah, I.
Speaker 4 (04:41):
Think they were getting people's feet all looking weird. I
remember they used to swear you can tell what fake
or night.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
Well, also like the Travis Scott winsor just go for
ridiculous money. So if you can get a bootleg.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
Version all day, yeah, just to wear around the house
or something.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
You know, of course, it's really good.
Speaker 7 (04:59):
Nowadays, it's really tough.
Speaker 6 (05:00):
Now, I would say on the collector standpoint, I don't
have any issue with like fakes, especially if like you
can't afford them or anything like that, because they're the
reseal is ridiculous, right eleven.
Speaker 7 (05:13):
I wouldn't even pay those prices you like that shoe
that much.
Speaker 6 (05:18):
The only the only controversy that I see is that
if you try to sell.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
Them as oh yeah, yeah.
Speaker 6 (05:24):
That's the only issue I have with counterfeit is if
you try to play someone and then someone gets.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
Got yeah, as they should, they'll be trying to sell
uh fakes, So you.
Speaker 7 (05:37):
Keep them on your feet.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
Cool, yeah, yeah, don't be trying to sell them with people.
Speaker 5 (05:41):
Yeah, just don't sell them, man.
Speaker 6 (05:42):
Just like Pokemon cards, you don't want No one wants
a fake Pokemon card if you collect them, right, you
don't want a fake Action figure if.
Speaker 7 (05:50):
You collect them.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
You know, yeah, you're right.
Speaker 7 (05:53):
It's tough that way. You don't want to put that
in there. The atmosphere.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
Well, let's talk about it. How did actually the retro
rodeo start?
Speaker 5 (06:04):
Uh, Brian.
Speaker 6 (06:07):
Take a stab at that one.
Speaker 4 (06:10):
I guess it just it really was Jimmy's brainchild, you
know something he was thinking about before, and I feel
like we were thinking about something just period as far
as like trying to drop something like street world wise
or like you know, just clothing brand wise, just something
clothing related, and uh with you know, we bounce around
(06:30):
a couple of other ideas and stuff like that, and uh,
he mentioned this that he was working on, and I
honestly just thought it fits so well with the person
that I am and my brand and what I already
you know, like presented the table as far as being
the bounty hunter like Houston Texas related Texas Pride and
you know, just showing showing grit, showing uh, honor and
(06:52):
just you know, a hard working spirit. And I feel
like it almost was like a perfect mission, like a
perfect representation you know, both of us.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
Really.
Speaker 4 (07:02):
So I was like, you know, once he pitched what
he had and just showed me all the art he
had was going with it and his ideas, I was like, yeah, bro,
this is so totally something we should run with or
totally something we should get going. And here we are.
You know, it was definitely something. It's crazy we just
finished talking about last week. How you know, of course,
I've known Jimmy for forever and streetwear or even like,
(07:22):
you know, fashion ain't the only reason we're homies. We
really grew up in a neighborhood here Lincoln, Greenees and
Greenspoint in Texas.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
And I've known him for fever.
Speaker 4 (07:32):
We got a bunch of other homies that we hang
out with, stuff like that that we know, and it's
really just like our lifestyle and us coming together. We
were always just like a melting pot of friends that
just had different interests and stuff like that. So me
and Jimmy, you know, just him showing his ideas that
he had ready and the things that I was already
about it mentioned so well, and you know, I really
(07:54):
just think this brand and this I don't really know,
you know, we're we're streetwear inspired. Yes, I don't know
if it's a street brand, Bullet. I mean, hey, I
feel like it's just something that is scratching a really
good itch for me as far as representation and creativity
and productivity, you know, just doing something, you know, So
(08:15):
it's been great for me.
Speaker 7 (08:17):
Jimmy, Yeah, that's that's good.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (08:22):
No, so it's street inspired, I would say for sure,
But at the same time, it won't I don't think
it ever will be like completely streetwear, just because that
subculture in itself is it's.
Speaker 7 (08:40):
It's it's a whole other.
Speaker 5 (08:41):
Language, I would say.
Speaker 6 (08:45):
And then so I guess the whole idea behind the
retro Rodeo was street inspired Texas T shirts that kind
of paid homage.
Speaker 5 (08:54):
To how we saw things, you know.
Speaker 6 (08:56):
So I think personally there's a lot correlation between like
you have like this country culture here in Texas.
Speaker 7 (09:06):
But also it's just it's not just that, right.
Speaker 6 (09:09):
I think a lot of people grow up on rap music,
hip hop music, R and B music, and then also
country music here in Texas really is it's and.
Speaker 7 (09:19):
I think kind of we I'm I'm like that, right.
Speaker 6 (09:22):
I grew up on like R and B, hip hop, streetwear,
and then like after high school we got exposed to
like this whole country side of Texas, you know, and
Greens Point is not like super prominent, and I just
kept seeing like how the same they had sent, like
like how much pride there was in both subcultures, and
(09:45):
they're actually mesh you know, like R and B music
and country music. If you really break it down and
change the background of the music, it's the same, right, Yeah,
it's blues, right, it's it's rhythm and blues and then
country music. A lot of time it's just based on
the blues, and I think that's kind of where we
kind of fit in in that weird in that weird mesh. Right,
(10:07):
it's it's street, but it's Texas, you know, but it
won't live in either or unfortunately but kind of fortunately
at the same time. And yeah, I think that's how
we kind of got here.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
Yeah, I love what you guys are touching on with
the whole because Texas is just a giant melting pot
and people don't realize it. I mean, I'm up here
obviously in the DFW are you guys are in the
Houston area, and at the exact same thing. We had
rap when I was growing up. My parents hated it.
There were the rock people, so they were like, what
the fuck.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
You're listening to?
Speaker 1 (10:39):
Yeah, I was like, I love our I love swe
in Vogue. And then you know, obviously then the rap
was coming along with big and everything, so I love that.
But then also you had like George Straight, you had
obviously Garth Brooks in the early nineties, and you had
all of this country that was also happening it was
so gigantic you couldn't even miss it, especially here is
(11:00):
where Honky Tom's all over the place. So yeah, but
like you said, if you really break it down, you
take the music out of it. The lyric wise, it's
about love, it's about loss, it's about you know, togetherness,
and you just either put a slide guitar or you
put maybe a nice little beat behind it, and then
you know that then the genre kind of fixed itself.
(11:22):
But I love what you guys are talking about when
you're trying to meld these things because and then obviously
what you just said about you're not saying it streetwear
because streetwear is what they're wearing. They decide what streetwear is.
You can put the label on it, but that doesn't
mean the guys in.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
The street are going to be wearing it.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
So yeah, yeah, definitely true.
Speaker 1 (11:42):
Where the idea of for the name come from, I'll
take that one.
Speaker 6 (11:49):
So the retro rodeo, like Brian kind of mentioned that
I was already brain chouding. I was already blueprinting something.
Speaker 5 (11:57):
I didn't know what it was.
Speaker 7 (12:00):
At the time, but I wanted to.
Speaker 6 (12:02):
Do something, and prior to doing the branding stuff like
the clothing side, I was doing shoe restoration, right, so
I was doing custom shoes also. I was trying to
also downsize a lot of my collection, right, So so
the retro part came in for like retro sneakers. You
(12:25):
know every year, you know you got a Jordan retro.
So the sneaker part came in, and then Rodeo was
like the Texas side, and so it had a good
ring to it, right, It kind of rolled.
Speaker 5 (12:38):
Retro rodeo.
Speaker 6 (12:40):
It just had it had that that that it had
a little bit of both what I was looking for,
but I didn't know what it was. And then I
had it.
Speaker 7 (12:48):
I had made some few.
Speaker 6 (12:50):
Logos and I was like, oh, this.
Speaker 7 (12:52):
Would be cool.
Speaker 6 (12:53):
I had like some vintage like basketball themed logos for
it at first, so I had like a nixed logo
or a nineties Rockets logo and that was the intro side.
And then me and Brian, like I said, we were
thinking about a brand, and I was like, oh, look,
check this out.
Speaker 5 (13:12):
This is something I was working on.
Speaker 7 (13:14):
And he's like, he didn't say anything.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
Actually, ex.
Speaker 3 (13:19):
I said fire emojis.
Speaker 6 (13:22):
I honestly think he did not say it was a Friday.
I think I sent it on a Friday and then
he just didn't say anything to me, and I was like,
I was sitting there.
Speaker 7 (13:32):
I was like, well, we.
Speaker 6 (13:33):
Got to do something. So I'm waiting and he comes
back on Sunday and he goes, let's do retro rodeo
and that's all. Like that's the only text that I got,
like of the blue, like Sunday night, and I was like, yeah,
let's do it. And I think he just I think,
you know, he was on the road, so I think
he was probably I think he was probably at the
(13:54):
airport or something and he just saw, Yeah, he was
at the airport and he saw I think how much
pride people had in Texas.
Speaker 7 (14:04):
Was like yeah, that's it right there. And I was like,
oh crap, my bad.
Speaker 6 (14:07):
I was like all right, cool, I got it. And
then after that I started doing the logos. Now, the
logo and everything did not exist prior to Brian saying yes.
Right once he said yes.
Speaker 7 (14:19):
I was like, boom, let's go.
Speaker 6 (14:23):
I scribbles scribbles of like different designs, and he's just
like he just emojis me most.
Speaker 7 (14:31):
He just sends emoji like fire or something like that.
Speaker 6 (14:34):
And then I was like, what if we go this
route and he's like yeah, and then I was like, okay,
what if we go this route and yeah, and then
I digitize everything and then.
Speaker 2 (14:42):
Boom, we're done.
Speaker 6 (14:44):
So the logo came about in like maybe a day
or two, like the official logo.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
It is a dope logo. I like it a lot.
I don't know why.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
Maybe I haven't seen it, somebody else has done it.
But the horseshoe with the lone star right in the
middle of it, Like, I don't know how anybody I
thought about.
Speaker 7 (15:00):
That, right right, It's such a simple thing.
Speaker 4 (15:03):
Yeah, yeah, it's super sick. I enjoyed it a lot.
And then like just thinking about like us and like, uh,
you know, our dreams or our aspirations. Jimmy's you know,
he dances his ass off. He's a great freaking Yeah.
Speaker 1 (15:17):
I've seen some videos on your Instagram Man the.
Speaker 4 (15:20):
Boys, the Man Dog, and uh, this is something you know,
like as far as me wrestling and him dancing, like
this is like the things we did when we were
younger and just wanted to continue to do and continue
to grind to do. And I just felt like the
name retro Rodeo fits so cool for it. Too, because
it was really like retro being like just making me
think about times when we were younger, or times we
(15:41):
spent together or just you know, old school times or whatever,
and Rodeo thinking about struggle of it all and just
like the great you know, no pun intended need that's
needed to continue those dreams or to strive for those dreams.
Those dreams. I feel like retro rodo just hit, you know,
whenever you told me. It's almost like it's crazy because
you did say that, you know, you sit it like
a Friday, and like, I guess it just didn't dawn
(16:03):
on me until Sunday.
Speaker 3 (16:04):
And I was like, yeah, yeah, it just hit you know.
Speaker 4 (16:07):
You then you hit the logo and everything, and I
don't know, I'm super satisfied with how far everything's going,
and you know, just starting something new, you know.
Speaker 2 (16:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
So you have just the hat and you have some
shirts with different the different colors, and obviously the mascot
one as well. And then I love the basically the
iHeart Texas, but it's the logo instead of the heart,
and it's you know who doesn't love that?
Speaker 2 (16:33):
This is it's this next sweet.
Speaker 1 (16:35):
Callback to the Isle of New York shirt and also
everybody in Texas. I've heard this from so many tattoo
artists that once they came here to Texas, they had
to learn the state of Texas, had to tattoo it
and a bunch of other I have one.
Speaker 2 (16:47):
On my on my.
Speaker 3 (16:50):
How do you know somebody's from Texas.
Speaker 1 (16:52):
Don't show you.
Speaker 2 (16:52):
Real fast.
Speaker 7 (16:55):
That's got a tramp staff of Texas.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
If you know, I want to get one, get like
a care bear, par bear.
Speaker 7 (17:06):
The John just showed is a tramp stamp.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
Yeh, tramp stamp.
Speaker 1 (17:10):
Yeah, hey, we all we all have to start summer. Yeah,
but what so what so these are limited drops right now?
What can I mean, We're going to the holidays and
obviously you know what are people can look forward to
when it comes to the rest of this year.
Speaker 6 (17:28):
So for the rest of the year, I mean obviously
have Black Friday and then obviously the Christmas holidays. So
I think those would be two parts that we hit
just this year. I think we're gonna skip over Thanksgiving
as far as anything, as far as anything like Thanksgiving branded. Yeah,
(17:48):
I'm a I'm myself, I'm a pretty big lover of Christmas.
So we will probably have a limited drop for Christmas.
That's gonna it's not gonna be like Drop two, but
it's definitely gonna be added onto Drop one. And then
I think Black Friday, we might we might have like
(18:09):
maybe some discount codes go out, you know, so.
Speaker 7 (18:13):
That would be for this year.
Speaker 2 (18:15):
That's good, okay, I was curious about that.
Speaker 1 (18:17):
And then what can people obviously look forward to when
it comes to twenty twenty six.
Speaker 6 (18:23):
Twenty twenty six, so we will probably we're planning to
do a drop every quarter nice, so we'll be I
guess Drop five by the end of the next year
twenty twenty six. And then so the process is pretty simple.
We'll keep everything like per drop since we do kind
(18:46):
of print on demand right now, so we'll keep the
drops live until the second or the third drop. So
Drop one would be live until obviously Drop two comes out,
and then vice versa. Drop two would since fade out
once three four you know, happens out as far as
(19:06):
like everything goes, so like pistols after sunset for instance,
that that won't ever happen again, right, It'll be something
something a lot different from that.
Speaker 1 (19:21):
Now the grit never dies.
Speaker 6 (19:23):
And then those basic logo teas they might live on
there forever, but they probably won't. But as far as
design wise, I think we here and I have like
some designs that only Brian would have with him on
the road, and then we're double downing on the hats
a lot more.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
I love that well.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
So when it comes to the back and forth as
to what y'all have idea wise or what you guys
kind of come up with, how much fun has it been?
You know, like you said, Brian, this is something brand new,
and so you're you're both kind of just like you know,
chomping the bits is.
Speaker 2 (20:00):
Like, all right, what can we do? What can we
drop now? Like things like that.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
How fun is that kind of conversation you guys are
having when it comes to ideas or you know, mock
ups are different things.
Speaker 4 (20:12):
It's super fun, especially because I've been cool with Jimmy
for forever. So it's really just like us just you know,
we're growing in now, We've got families and stuff, so
it's like it's kind of just reconnecting in life, you know,
like I talk to them all the time or you know,
in passing, but now it's like almost every time, you know,
text them all the time now, Like back and forth
about stuff and just you know, it's really just like
(20:33):
me kicking with my homies but bouncing off ideas and
it's still being like business like and benefiting us both
or benefiting the community or whatever.
Speaker 3 (20:41):
And I don't know, it's it's it's a very invaluable.
Speaker 4 (20:46):
Thing, you know, you know, especially because the times we
you know, sometimes I just feel like the world could
go to shit at any moment. So be kicking with
my homies and you know, somebody that I just enjoy
being around, and like, you know, also just having a
creative thought and being able to bring that to life
(21:06):
for others to enjoy and just witness Jimmy's creativity because
he's a hell of a He's a genius his self.
So you know, it's it's been great. It's been phenomenal
for me. You know, I've always been into art. I've
always been into uh street art even like graffiti and stuff,
and just like uh, I collect like a bunch of
physical media myself, like like mangasn't started hopping in you know,
(21:29):
collect the.
Speaker 2 (21:29):
Mangas and yeah.
Speaker 4 (21:32):
Art books or like uh recently like the Dark Soul
Strategy guys. You know, I just like the random art
and stuff like that. I love art, all types of art,
so it's just, you know, a great outlet for me
to get all that out, you know, amongst other things,
because you don't wrestle on the same creativity, but you know,
just bringing it all together, let it all flow out.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
Yeah, what was your you.
Speaker 7 (21:53):
See what what was your high school letterman for?
Speaker 4 (21:56):
It was for drawing my high school letters for drawing
I want to art contest Accidentally because my art teacher
er my work.
Speaker 3 (22:05):
She didn't even tell me. She edited it for me, and it.
Speaker 4 (22:07):
Was like, I'll go to school, finished class, I'm leaving
and she said, oh, I forgot to give you something.
Speaker 3 (22:12):
And she's like, gives me a letter man. I'm like
letter what? Like, what did I do?
Speaker 4 (22:17):
She's like, I tell you, I entered one of your art,
your drawings into this contest and you want state.
Speaker 3 (22:22):
And I was like, bro, that's like crazy. Yeah, yeah
it went to State. I don't know if I wanted.
I have the letter for it. I don't know if
that means I won. I don't know what. And I
was like, what, I got a jacket?
Speaker 2 (22:35):
What?
Speaker 3 (22:35):
I got a letter?
Speaker 5 (22:36):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (22:36):
My name on the back of this month it was.
It was crazy.
Speaker 1 (22:39):
I didn't even get it for art.
Speaker 4 (22:41):
I didn't know you could even get it for art.
I never even knew. But the only way you could
get it for art is if you want a state competition.
Speaker 2 (22:47):
Okay, that makes sense.
Speaker 3 (22:48):
He won.
Speaker 7 (22:49):
He just does Brian's. That's like that was like Brian's
like type of luck growing up.
Speaker 3 (22:54):
Like it was it definitely like that with money.
Speaker 2 (23:00):
Do you still have that piece of art?
Speaker 7 (23:03):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (23:03):
No, brother lady kept it. She straight kept it. Bro
It was me and it honestly was like a It
was a really cool photo because at the time I
didn't enjoy drawing faces.
Speaker 3 (23:19):
Sucked the drawing faces.
Speaker 4 (23:20):
So I drew myself sitting in a chair but with
no face, and I was like looking down with my
hands like in my head or my head in my hands,
but in the background of me. It was like a
self portrait of me, like blown up, like me drawing myself,
you know. So it was like it was kind of cool,
you know, it was, I think just it was because
it was different, you know. It was kind of me
(23:42):
face to my fear that I knew I sucked it
drawing faces, but then overcoming it in the background by
actually drawing it, and it looked good enough for me to,
you know, enjoy it. So I don't know a little
little story there. Maybe maybe that's why I won. It's
the storytelling. It's the storytelling.
Speaker 2 (23:56):
You've always been a storyteller's.
Speaker 5 (24:01):
He was a handsome dude.
Speaker 6 (24:02):
It was a handsome it was like hands a handsome dude.
Speaker 3 (24:07):
This kid's handsome.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
But let's run it even draw how handsome he is?
Speaker 3 (24:14):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (24:18):
How did almost got a pit take there? It's a great.
Speaker 7 (24:22):
This guy can draw.
Speaker 1 (24:27):
Okay, I want both of y'all to answer, obviously separately.
How what was the first memory of y'all meeting man?
Speaker 4 (24:35):
Honestly, I don't even know. I just feel like because
I think I met Jimmy through Fernando's or no, I
didn't know you first. I want to say I met
you through Fernando. We have another friend named Fernando who
lives in the neighborhood. We all live in the same neighborhood,
big ass neighborhood. It's like two sides to the neighborhoods.
So there's even like another side of all the kids
(24:56):
over there.
Speaker 1 (24:57):
We're we're in the Houston Metropleux.
Speaker 3 (25:01):
It is north side of Houston, Texas orth.
Speaker 4 (25:03):
Side greens Point, mom relatively like what five to ten
minutes away from Lincoln Green East. It's a big ass neighborhood,
double sided. So as a kid, if you're walking around
and you know, just getting into trouble but not really
you know, ninety trouble, nothing crazy. But if you just
walk around the neighborhood, you meant people, you know, we
(25:26):
just mean we go to school together, We're all on
the bus and things like that. And I don't there
was never really like a time when I just remember
just meeting Jimmy. But I just always remember us just
being around each other, And it was probably just because
we were all the same school really, you know, So
I don't really think there was an actual like cannon
event where I was like, oh, this is Jimmy like,
but I just feel like I just remember us always
(25:46):
being around each other. As far as like when we
started chilling more with each other. Though I don't know
what grade was I in, maybe like eighth and you
were in seventh.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
I think, yeah, I.
Speaker 4 (25:59):
Want to say that's when we like started hanging out
hanging out with each other. Was around that time?
Speaker 6 (26:04):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, around yeah, seventh and eighth grade.
Speaker 5 (26:07):
I think we like.
Speaker 6 (26:10):
We were like actually friends.
Speaker 3 (26:13):
Like friends friends. I talked, you know, because I I
knew he existed.
Speaker 4 (26:17):
It's just that I just didn't talk to him like that,
you know, just because again this big aass neighborhood, we're
not really around each other. Which really he lives like
two streets three streets around the corner front me, so
like I could have you know, No, actually, now that
I think about it, didn't you know Ty?
Speaker 3 (26:32):
You were cool with Ty weren't you ty Caw the
tennis game? Uh no, no, no, no.
Speaker 6 (26:38):
You're thinking on the only other Asian dude.
Speaker 4 (26:41):
No no, no, you're thinking you're thinking of Johnny Ting. You
thinking of Johnny Tan.
Speaker 5 (26:46):
I think I know what you're talking about.
Speaker 4 (26:47):
Wait, this guy named ty Caw, he lived over here.
He was like my best friend, bro. He just go
his house to play D d R all the time, bro.
And he he lucky lives where Matt lives. He lives
kind of where Matt lives in our neighborhood or whatever.
Speaker 3 (27:02):
But I feel like, for.
Speaker 4 (27:04):
Some reason, whenever I would go to his house, I'd
passed on that back road, and I feel like you know,
I remember knowing that our other friend Fernando lived over there,
so I mean we probably crossed paths before then or whatever,
but legit us being friends friends probably from like seventh
eighth grade and uh from then on literally like you know,
hang out with each other every day at each other's houses,
(27:27):
work out with each other. I go to the dance competitions,
or even whenever we used to go to practice, I
would hang out of practice and just chilled after until
he was done with our other friend George.
Speaker 3 (27:40):
Shoot, what did we go? Do we ever go to
a work tour together?
Speaker 4 (27:45):
I don't think so, right, No work, but not just
everything just witness in life, growing up walking around the neighborhood,
drawing shit, witnessing just funny shit in the neighborhood, you know,
like witness in life, you know, or even hardships, you know,
seeing other people go through stuff.
Speaker 3 (28:07):
Or you know, other things happen in the neighborhood, or like.
Speaker 4 (28:11):
Favorite hood spots getting torn down, you remember, like when
McDonald's finally got turned into Timmy Chance, or you know, like, uh.
Speaker 1 (28:19):
That's a good day, that plays a great day.
Speaker 3 (28:26):
But you know, it is what it is. You know,
we've known each other for a super long time.
Speaker 5 (28:31):
All right, let me ask you something.
Speaker 3 (28:33):
What's up?
Speaker 5 (28:34):
Eighth grade prom did you win? Prom king?
Speaker 3 (28:37):
I did I want? I was I was Plumber Puma prompt.
Speaker 5 (28:43):
Okay, listen to this. I won eighth grade year two.
Speaker 3 (28:47):
Let's go, let's go.
Speaker 2 (28:51):
In the company of royalty over here. This is fantastic.
Speaker 4 (28:54):
Yes, yes, let's know what happened you think about it.
Those were both the first years they opened, bro, so
we can say we're like not.
Speaker 3 (29:05):
Girls, you know, yeah, we're the first, were the first
first are you winning?
Speaker 6 (29:10):
Dude?
Speaker 7 (29:10):
And I was like, oh damn, I gotta win too.
Speaker 6 (29:14):
It was because I was always yeah, I know, I'm
I'm Brian's one year.
Speaker 5 (29:18):
Older than me, so he's a one grade above me.
Speaker 6 (29:21):
Uh So you know how that kind of mentality builds, Right,
You're just like, young dude, you know, dang, I gotta
win too, Brian can do it, maybe I can do it, and.
Speaker 5 (29:31):
Then lit and behold I do win, and.
Speaker 6 (29:34):
Then uh but yeah, every year it's it's Brian's one
year olden than me, so I'm.
Speaker 5 (29:39):
Always like one year behind.
Speaker 6 (29:40):
So we have like close friends that are obviously they're
all like closer to Brian's age.
Speaker 5 (29:46):
Yeah, and then uh, I think we.
Speaker 6 (29:49):
Really started really kicking it kicking. It was like right
after graduation, and you know, we.
Speaker 5 (29:55):
Started like North Harris. So Brian was working out and
I was like, man, I want.
Speaker 6 (29:59):
To work out too. And then he started teaching me
like a lot of things. So he started teaching me
how to like bench and deadlift, and like I would
like meet him up at like six o'clock in the
morning at the North Haresa gym because that was like
the only time I could catch him.
Speaker 5 (30:14):
He's like, hey, I'll be here at six in the morning.
I'm like, what the heck, dude. So I was like,
all right, fine, I'll be there.
Speaker 6 (30:22):
And then like he'll like teach me some stuff and
I wouldn't see him for like I wouldn't see him
for like a month or so, all right, peace out, bro,
good luck and go do Westling shit.
Speaker 7 (30:35):
And then I'm like all right, cool.
Speaker 6 (30:37):
And it was always like catching each other and passing
when we got older. You know, when your kids you
kind of chill and you meet at the neighborhood pool
and stuff like that, and then when you're older, you're
obviously on like two different paths. But then you just
like find a way to like kind of make way
for each other. And I remember when I was doing
like I was like brand wrapping for Johnny Cupcakes with
(31:00):
she was like my dream brand for the longest.
Speaker 1 (31:03):
I didn't know what that was for a long time,
and I looked into it and I was like, holy fuck,
that thing is massive. It's just it's just like a
dumb genius thing of like how did nobody else think this?
Speaker 7 (31:16):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (31:16):
No, And if you listen to like Johnny and the
story and how everything kind of kept rolling, it's it
was like a huge inspiration. And I remember before, like
before I was like I went to before I left
to Sam Houston. I remember applying to Johnny through like
a power point.
Speaker 7 (31:35):
It was the worst way, and I was like.
Speaker 5 (31:37):
Oh, I really want to design for you.
Speaker 6 (31:39):
Here's some things that I had done, and I had
done like a dance brand at the time, and I send.
Speaker 7 (31:45):
Them a bunch of designs and power points.
Speaker 5 (31:47):
And I never heard anything.
Speaker 6 (31:48):
And then like three or four years later, I get
the opportunity to interview with them, and I started doing
their brand rapping here in Houston. But every time, this
one time I had like an interview with the Houston
Chronicle and the writer he did like a hip hop
He did like a hip hop Christian.
Speaker 5 (32:11):
Blog posts for the Chronicle, and his son or his.
Speaker 6 (32:15):
Stepson at the time, was a huge Frian of Brian Keith,
like a little skitch right catching his kid.
Speaker 3 (32:22):
Yeah, I was like, hey, he's like.
Speaker 7 (32:27):
I was like, I was like, Brian, do you know
this guy? And I sent him pictures and like you
know this kid?
Speaker 5 (32:32):
And He's like, yeah, I know that kid.
Speaker 3 (32:33):
He's like he dropped me. And then I was like,
have you ever met him?
Speaker 6 (32:38):
I was like, you know, I don't think Brown's like
a like at shows or something.
Speaker 7 (32:41):
You know.
Speaker 6 (32:42):
I was like, dude, come do this interview with me,
and you're gonna you're gonna we're I'm gonna let you
meet the kid and he's gonna be stoked. So the
whole reason we did the interview was just for Sketch
Kid to meet Brian Keith. And then we just kind
of told we kind of told this story a little bit.
And then now, I mean, we're partnered up together and
(33:03):
we have a.
Speaker 5 (33:03):
Brand, so I love it.
Speaker 2 (33:06):
We'll circle, We'll circle.
Speaker 5 (33:09):
Just trying to be nice guys.
Speaker 3 (33:11):
Somebody say a Rodeo. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (33:14):

Speaker 7 (33:33):

Speaker 6 (33:37):

Speaker 1 (34:13):
The outtake pictures on Instagram are my favorite. Honestly, I
think they should be just in there as regular pots.
But that's I like, more candid pictures, But I get it.
Speaker 5 (34:23):
Do you think? What do you think of everything?
Speaker 6 (34:25):
John?
Speaker 3 (34:25):
So far?
Speaker 1 (34:26):
I've loved everything. I like, I said, the logos, fantastic,
everything is so it's so well done. It's simple to
a point, but I know that the drops can get
or will probably get more technical, and you're what you
guys are gonna do for I imagine obviously showcase so
much what Houston has to offer, which people don't know.
Houston obviously is the biggest metroplex here in the state.
(34:51):
Up here in DFW, we're really trying to fight for
it because we're basically going border up to Oklahoma. So
but I would also hope that and would love for
you guys to you just take it out to different
parts of Texas. Of like, this is what San Antonio has,
is what Austin has, obviously, this is what DFW has,
and they go it all at El Paso Rio Grand
People don't understand how massive Texas is and every pocket
(35:13):
is so different, as Brian probably knows for wrestling in
every point in it.
Speaker 2 (35:18):
It's so every plot is.
Speaker 1 (35:19):
So different, so and they all have their own culture.
So I can't wait to see what you guys do
when it does come to Texas and this fashion line.
Speaker 3 (35:27):
Thanks John, thank you, heck you. I'm excited too. It's
gonna be amazing.
