Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hell. My name is Gail Cavanaugh and the title of
this episode is Women and Business. Women today have many
choices in deciding the types of jobs that they will hold,
depending on the area in which one may move. Some
places are more open to women in leadership positions, while
(00:24):
others mainly want to see women continue working in the
traditional occupations such as waitresses or nurses. Women's roles in
the workplace have changed so much that some are struggling
with how to manage the new roles and the expectations
(00:47):
that their employers have of them. Despite the changes, few
women have made it to the top leadership role as
CEO of a Fortune five hundred company. As of only
eight one percent of the CEO's are women. Women seem
to be more acceptable working in the nonprofit sector, as
(01:12):
seventy three percent of non profit employees are women. However,
forty six point six percent of the employees at four
profit companies are comprised of women. It appears that women
still have a long way to go in breaking out
of the traditional jobs and advancing to more leadership positions.
(01:35):
Women are assuming these roles despite what the Bible says.
First Timothy two eleven to fifteen says, a woman should
learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit
a woman to teach or assume authority over a man,
For Adam was formed first, then Eve. This passage is
(01:57):
a very controversial one for women who are woming leadership positions.
They argued that the verses antiquated and does not apply
to the twenty first century. Many men today agree with
Timothy's views. The contrasts with the way Jesus treated women.
(02:18):
This contrasts with the way that Jesus treated women, and
one must wonder if the author of the previous verses
was only stating his own opinion. Jesus seemed to give
women opportunities to lead. When Mary poured a bottle of
very expensive perfume over Jesus's head, he commended her. Matthew
twenty six seven says there came unto him a woman
(02:43):
having an alabaster box a very precious ointment, and poured
it on his head as he sat at me. When
Jesus understood it, he said, unto them, why trouble ye
the woman? For she hath brought a good work upon me.
One of the reasons there has been slow growth for
(03:03):
women is that their family responsibilities still take precedence over
their work outside the home. Women are still responsible for
raising a family, which may interfere with the duties at work,
which must be performed after hours. Men, in contrast, do
not have these responsibilities. Although some are voluntarily assuming responsibilities
(03:28):
for their families as well as earning an income to
support them, most women are in the job force because
they need to support their families. They may be single parents,
or they may be divorced. All throughout the history of mankind,
men have abandoned their responsibilities to the families and women
have had to take control. It could be that men
(03:51):
are turning their hearts to their children, as God said
he would do in Malachi four six. He will turn
the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the
hearts of the children to their fathers, or else I
will come and strike the land with a curse. We
certainly are under a curse, with so many struggles that
females go through today. In conclusion, men and women are
(04:16):
co operating with each other more to resolve their problems,
more are fulfilling their responsibilities to their families. Deuteronomy five
twenty nine says oh that their hearts would be inclined
to fury and keep all my commands always, so that
(04:36):
it might go well with them and their children forever
