Fest started with a simple insult. The traveling road show
put the spotlight on some of metal's most legendary acts
and hottest up and comers for more than two decades.
Oz Fest also helped revitalize Ozzi's career and endeared him
to a new generation of metal heads, facilitated a Black
Sabbath reunion, and reaffirmed the commercial viability of the genre

after years of cultural decline. So what was the insult
that launched oz Fest? Osborne reflected on the festival reaction
in a twenty ten memoir I Am Ozzie. She called
the organizers of Lallapalooza, and he wrote, Ozzy Osbourne, He's
a dinosaur, they said in not so many words. After
the initial sting of the rejection wore off, Cher decided
that her and Ozzy would simply beat the Lallapaluza organizers
at their own game, she said at the time on

Metal Hammer. If Lallapaluza wasn't able to see what Ozzie
could give them. That will come up with her own
metal version, only better, and the rest is history.
