Speaker 1 (00:03):
Today boys and girls are talking about hold on all right,
that's the long one, not.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Mine for the Don dun the down dinner past Wars Wars.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
M m hmm.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
Beast Wars So.
Speaker 4 (01:05):
The greatest Transformers series ever made. I will fight anyone
who disagrees.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
I will agree Beast Wars is definitely in my top three.
Speaker 5 (01:16):
So.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Beast Wars was debuted September sixteenth and nineteen ninety six
on over Here Where We Live. It was Fox Kids,
yeah at the time. Developed by Larry dil Till Tillo
and Bob Forward, with the voices of Gary Chalk, Dave Kay,
(01:38):
Scott McNeil, ian, James Carl, It's Richard Newman and Alec Willows.
Ran for about three seasons fifty two episodes.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
Now is that including transmittals?
Speaker 2 (01:50):
No, this is this is straight up Beast Wars. Yeah.
So like for like I said, whatever the syndication we're on,
it went from ninety to May seventh of ninety nine.
Speaker 4 (02:04):
Yeah, and then we had trans metals and then we
had beast machines.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
Yes, and like depending where you're at, like this was
and once again like it was British Columbia, so it
was Canada. We're the ones who did the animation of this,
because this was tactically the sequel to Transformers.
Speaker 4 (02:27):
Sequel prequel both kind of both, yeah, because it's set
like the Maximals and the Predacons are from the future. Yeah,
and then during their whole fight in space that you
see in the opening cinematics, they've gone back to the past.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
Yeah. Because not only that we had the sequels of
Beast Machines, then there was two other ones. There was
beast Wars two and beast Wars Neo, which were only
which were animated in Japan only and which kind of
was which was more of a continuation for it. So
(03:06):
the the premises of the beast Wars, the two main
factions and this this is just straight up from the
from Wikipedia.
Speaker 4 (03:14):
So it's like just yonsials they get alonger.
Speaker 1 (03:20):
Don't they.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
That's the whole thing is is the Predacons, uh, the
Protocons led by Megatron very well.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
Well, so like the two main factions and beast Wars
are descendants of the two main factions of the original
of the gen ones. The Maximals are descendants of Autobots,
Predacons are descendants of Scepticons, the process of which Yeah,
it's referred to the Great Upgrade. The leader of the
Predacons team is Megatron. The name Seek who was basically
(03:56):
he stole Megatron's name, like for the fact that he
was the which like you know, he loved Megatron so much.
Hims and his forces are a splinter group on the
hunt for power crystals call because.
Speaker 4 (04:08):
That's the thing is like the max one Cybertron, the
Maximals and Prodicons, they get along. There is no some
of war, nothing, And it's Megatron's group that has broken
away and went, look, yeah, there were besmirching our ancestry.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
Let's kill these Maximals. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
They do this with the aid of an artifact known
as the Golden Disk, and the Golden Disc is actually
the Voyager Disc.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
Yeah yeah yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
They go to Earth yeah, and the megatrons stolen ship,
the dark Side, which is equipped with a transwarp drive.
The Maximals Exploration the Axilon, led by Optimus Primal, is
sent to stop them. Together, the ships plunged through time
and space phenomenon created by a transworp device. During their
space battle and space they crash land on mysterious planet.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
Which at first it's did they intend for it to
be Earth.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
I'm not for sure. I don't they didn't really know
it was Earth, but so what ended up happened like
the like the the the they're like, the planet is,
if I'm not mistaken, the planet is so enriched with
either inergy ener john that it's become poisonous to them,
(05:28):
and so to adapt to it, they end up taking
forms of the animals there on the planet because they
do scans.
Speaker 4 (05:35):
Yeah, then they take forms of the animals and when
they're in beast mode, they're shielded from the yeah, extreme
innergy on radiation.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
Yeah, and so the maximals end up taking like the mammals, rodents,
like the vermin and all that stuff on that set.
That's where you get Optimus Primal does a gorilla rhinox,
good old rhinox. As a lot of this is like
(06:05):
you know, and like just the nail on the head
just kind.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
Of well like.
Speaker 4 (06:09):
And it's even because it's like I've been starting to
watch it again with with my son, and uh, it's
not very it doesn't make much sense because it's like
Cheetur the newest scan. He's like, well, I'll be a
cheetah and it's not very clear. Was his name Cheetur
before or did he change his name to Cheetur. He's like,
(06:31):
you know, my name is Phil, but I'm a cheetah.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
It feels like very cool.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
Yeah, And as more characters are introduced on the Predacon side,
they end up taking uh, like.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
They take scans of fossils, so make it something.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
Some take fossils, Some take like from bugs, venomous creatures
and stuff at the time, like scorpions and all that.
But makes you've.
Speaker 4 (06:59):
Got You've got make tron, Who's who's a t rex?
Dina bon, who's velociraptor? Uh Arachnia, who's a black widow tarantulus?
Speaker 3 (07:09):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (07:10):
Yeah, terror sare or.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
Who's a terror actel?
Speaker 3 (07:14):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (07:15):
You had scorpionock who's a scorpion? Yeah? You had black
iraqna and no matron. Good old.
Speaker 4 (07:31):
What's funny is like was spinator. You know he's got
that voice and he acts like that in an idiot.
But nobody acts like they all know they're robots and
they're just taking on these forms of animals except for
the ant one who Inferno he really thinks he's an
(07:51):
ant and he thinks mega trons the queens.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
So Inferno was a blank Protoform who received damage while
he landed on Earth and went in saying gaining the
mentality of an army ants and he imprintsed on Megatron
as Queen.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
This Queen Megatron. Yes, I don't like Queen.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
Yes. The voice, the guy who does the voice of Megatron.
Speaker 6 (08:14):
It was Dave Kai k a k A y e
k yeah, Dave k I guess yeah what.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
Definitely, in my opinion, one of the best Transformer voices
of all.
Speaker 4 (08:31):
This is a controversial statement. I prefer Beast Wars Megatron
voice at all too. G One Megatron like, I'm sorry,
I'm sorry. Frank Wilker is an amazing voice actor. I
love him as Megatron. But just like the arrogance and
(08:53):
the smooth talkingness of the Beast Wars Megatron, he is
so much better.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
Like even the animation. It's and this is early three
D animation.
Speaker 4 (09:05):
Yeah, and now when I was watching this with with
with with Oliver, it's still the first episode.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
He's like, is this supposed to look like this?
Speaker 4 (09:15):
Yes, it's it's it's I was like, this came out
in the mid nineties when I was like.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
Your age, this was amazing.
Speaker 4 (09:22):
Exact, Yeah, this was holy crap. Look at this, Look
what computers could do?
Speaker 2 (09:27):
Ah, and and.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
For a weekly TV show, because like this is this
is a couple.
Speaker 4 (09:33):
Of years removed from Toy Story and Toy Store looked amazing,
but you know, freaking Dizzy did it.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
But Pixar did it well. But also the difference between
Pixar and like Beast Machines, Pixar had time.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
What's what I'm saying is like this is a weekly
show that is putting this out.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
This looks amazing. It looks like I'm watching video.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
And the toys themselves legit.
Speaker 1 (10:01):
Yeah, like the toys were great.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
Yeah, and the toys himself, if I'm not mistake, was
it Hasbro? Well not besides I know Hasbro owned it,
but like did was it masters? Did trim Masters help
do the toys? Let me see Beast Wars.
Speaker 1 (10:25):
But uh.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
No they did not. But anyway, but yeah, because that's
the same, Like this was one of those few things
where the toys actually looked just like the show and
like it.
Speaker 4 (10:41):
It was phenomenal, even though with the toys you would
sometimes get just palette swaps and they would just be
characters that don't exist, because it's like they took off
of as Primes. You know, he's a he's a silverback
gorilla and they just palette swapped it. He's like a
white gorilla and it's some some.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
Character like from the comics or something like that, and maybe.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
From the comics.
Speaker 4 (11:06):
But those those instances that yousually I feel always felt
like these were test characters, Yeah, to see how they
sold well, didn't wait stick them in the show if
they said really.
Speaker 2 (11:18):
Good, well, also with it, like usually like whenever they
did a cartoon of it. They also did a comic series. Now,
I didn't read any of the beast Wars comics.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
No, no, me neither.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
And that's saying I wish I because I think Marvel
was the one who.
Speaker 4 (11:33):
Did them, probably because Marvel did Transformers back in the day,
so there's a good chance Marvel id w and all that.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
Yeah. But with beast Wars, it was phenomenal at its time,
and it blew blew up like quick.
Speaker 4 (11:51):
Well because not only did it look amazing for time,
the storylines were fantastic. That's what like, even though it
looks janky now, me and Olliver of a sudden Watch
two three four episodes, because the.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
Story is boys acting is phenomenal.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
It's great because it's like the episode we just watched where.
Speaker 4 (12:14):
The Maximals had hidden a spy camera inside of the Protocons.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
Yeah, yes, and so was the rat track.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
We had to go in there and and.
Speaker 4 (12:23):
The Protocons become aware of this, and so they play
up some infighting to the camera and then you know,
blow themselves up. And the Maximals go there and they
can't there's no life signs of Predacons, so that we'll
just take we'll take the parts from their ship that
we need to fix our ship. Well it was his
(12:44):
old ruse by Megatron who's using black iraqni as like
experimental signal dampening device.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
Yeah, and.
Speaker 4 (12:55):
They fix the ship and they're not going to leave,
but Dinobot decides to stay. But then dinahbaugh is he's
leaving and then that's when the Predacons show up, and
and Dinah Bat' is like, oh crap, I gotta tell
everybody get into the Predaconsnaba.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
Takes them all on what like by himself the first time.
Speaker 4 (13:14):
Yeah, and uh, you know, the Maximal ship is going
up into the air and you know it's really being
held together, but it's coming up and uh, Office Prime,
you know, he he he goes to get Dinahaut and
he's able to throw Dinabaught into the ship as it's
left it off, and Office Prime falls, you know, to
(13:36):
his death quote unquote, and then Megatron is able to
grab a hold and get into the ship and make
it crash. But the best part of that episode is
it's Megatron's on the deck of the ship and he's
just blasting matt Rattrap or he blast Cheetaur and ryn
Os and Tiger Tron and uh he Trap is trying
(14:01):
to transform Megatron like grabs him by his neck, and
I'm like, who's who's gonna show Upho's gonna say it?
Rhyn Os gets up, buffles the crab at a Megatron
and then picks him up with like body slams them
through the portle and Megatron falls.
Speaker 1 (14:20):
And it's like as the Boy ride Ox And then
I was supposed to say, Megatron calls.
Speaker 7 (14:26):
Enough damage that the ship falls in the exact position
it was And I'm sitting there watching that, going, that's
dumb that it falls in the exact same spot.
Speaker 4 (14:38):
And I'm going, from an animator standpoint, they hadn't rendered
any other position for that ship, so it's gonna fall
right back where but I mean, and then he's like
there's an overarchy storyline, but there's also every episode is
more or less it's like.
Speaker 1 (15:02):
All right, where were we?
Speaker 2 (15:03):
I forgot?
Speaker 1 (15:04):
I forgot.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
We had to pause to pause for a phone call.
We were talking about Beast Wars. We were talking about
the storylines of how good they were. We were talking
talking about some of the characters.
Speaker 1 (15:19):
Who's your favorite character?
Speaker 2 (15:23):
It's always well, besides Dino Bots, I would have to
say Rhynos then like a tie between Cheetor and Rattro.
He they tried to make him like, you know, the
new hot Rod, the new.
Speaker 4 (15:44):
He's very much a hot Rod character, right, Rhinos number one,
which makes his turn to the you know, being evil
and Beast Machines all the more, like you know, stick
to the heart. Yeah, everybody likes everybody, but had Ryan
(16:09):
Oxen and Megatron.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
Let's say, like, like the.
Speaker 1 (16:14):
Megatron's just he's just so fun to watch.
Speaker 2 (16:17):
He is the best of the Protocons.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
Yeah, well.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
So Waspiner, then Megatron, then Inferno. But I get it,
but also like what was cool about each single one?
Every character had their own like their own story to
it like where like there was character development with at
least almost every character.
Speaker 1 (16:44):
Most of them.
Speaker 4 (16:44):
Yeah, I mean don't Dinabot for sure, I meant as
a protocon he fights Megatron for leadership, gets defeated, and then.
Speaker 2 (16:53):
Not even that, there's a point he does. But it
got to the point to where the real one of
the reasons he quit it was because he did not
like the way Megatron was treating the Predacons.
Speaker 1 (17:05):
Well, it was because Dinabot is very much all about.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
Honor and everything else. And then when he there was
a point to where he joins the Autobots, and there
there's some points to where him like him and rad
Track got into it all the time.
Speaker 4 (17:18):
But there was Tramp always thought that he was still
secretly a Predacon.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
But they became good for like I wouldn't say they
became friends, but there was respect there.
Speaker 1 (17:28):
Yeah, and they not.
Speaker 4 (17:30):
A probably hit the best story arc.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
Okay, so the now, have you been watching any of
the like the base Okay, so anyone who is a
big my Transformers fan may have seen the YouTube videos
the basics of I can't remember the guy who does
the videos and stuff. But so there was a point
to where I was watching just I don't know why,
like the ADHD kicked in. I was going through all
(17:54):
the Transformers like stuff. So so apparently out of all
of Transformers there is one. Like they they do little
with Dinabots in the comics because his story was so
good in Beast Force, they have they are just like,
(18:16):
I don't know what we can really do with it.
I don't know what we can add to what we could, like,
you know, you can't improve upon it. Yeah, and because
even because like the only thing they actually kind of
improved on him was in the Netflix series. So there's
(18:36):
a point in the third part of the Netflix series
where Optimus Prime like is sent to planet Earth and
meets Optimus Primal and like Megatron meets like you know,
other Megatron and all that stuff. Well, there's a point
where Dinobot dies again, but in an even more heroic
(18:57):
way to where like it could got to the point
to where he was. It showed him as a Decepticon,
but there's a point to where he was, like Megatron
found a way to where he could change the future
and destroy everything, and Dinobod sacrifices himself for the Golden
Disc to.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
Now I don't remember how did he sacrifice himself? Because
he sacrificed himself. He died in one season three three.
Speaker 2 (19:23):
It was either season three or season two. It was Code.
Speaker 1 (19:26):
Of the that like a heroic death.
Speaker 2 (19:29):
It was it was season two, episode nine, Code of
hero Now that one is definitely, in my opinion, one
of the best Transformers episodes period. So there is a
point to where something happens and Dinobod is by himself
(19:50):
and because he ends up fighting proto humans like us
in our yeah yeah, in our Neanderthal stage. So there's
a point to where Megatron ends up finding out these
are humans. If we killed these people, these humans, we
can change the future and and like secure the war
(20:13):
in like yeah yeah, And so Dinobot fights all the
Predacons by himself up to like the Last Man like
it like, and until he dies, we can't like to
save the human race. And that's why I like, remember Dinabot,
(20:34):
Dinobot died for us.
Speaker 1 (20:36):
Well and then he gets brought.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
Back well yeah, because like the Clone, it.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
Gets brought back during the transmittals.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
Thing season three.
Speaker 4 (20:45):
And the thing is with with with the Clone is
he's a Protocon.
Speaker 1 (20:50):
He's even more brutal, he's more brutal, but his programming
is still based.
Speaker 4 (20:55):
On and there's a point, right, yeah, there's a point
where he flips because before he dies. I can't right
before he dies, because his his his his programming, his
base programming is still so honor bound that he rejects,
(21:18):
you know, the program that that that Megatron Patron put
into him and betrays Megatron.
Speaker 2 (21:29):
But no, but like if it says anything to help,
everybody loves Donabot. When they did the Transformers Hall of Fame,
he was the very first one hand all Transformers, like
like we're talking like like by a landslide, like beating
Optimus Prime, Megatron, like Starscream. Donald Bot is was hands
(21:57):
down the like they said, like the fans spoke, it's
like it has to be dynabout and I agree that
Dinobot is truly, if not the greatest Transformer like in history.
Speaker 4 (22:13):
Let's see my my favorite transform in history. There is
a tie between sound Wave and star Scream.
Speaker 2 (22:20):
For me, when it happened, when I would have to
say probably my favorite like like transformer like in my
personal favorite Gen one, Dinabot, Grandma yeah me grim But
like that is that's the same because also like like
(22:41):
with Beast Wars. It was phenomenal, phenomenal for its time,
and it let and it oh.
Speaker 4 (22:48):
Yeah, cause it's like and when I was telling stuff
Tolerant the other day, I'm like, he was like, did
you watch this every day?
Speaker 1 (22:54):
And every day before school, wou.
Speaker 4 (22:56):
Would would watch it and then Saturday morning you got
the new episode for the week, and then they did reruns,
you know, seven am in the morning.
Speaker 1 (23:04):
So I've watched that Mummies Alive before going to school.
Speaker 4 (23:10):
Because Beast Wars, you were just so hooked because the
stories were so good. It wasn't just like all these
robots are fighting each other and you know, there's laser.
Speaker 2 (23:20):
Guns, immature over time, you know.
Speaker 1 (23:22):
And that was because about best Machines. It's the situation
is very serious and very dire.
Speaker 4 (23:28):
And when they get back to uh, Cybertron and Megatron,
there were.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
Some characters that legit died and a lot and back
then like we had like, there wasn't a lot of
characters that actually died in the rich Was there a
lot of characters that died in my Gen one.
Speaker 1 (23:46):
Transformers? Yeah, because that's what the movie was for.
Speaker 2 (23:49):
Well, I know, because well that's what the movie was for.
I know, to kill off toy Line. I know. That's
what I'm saying. So a lot of characters died in
the movie, but you didn't see that in the cartoon.
And that's what like mate, because like with Beast Wars,
characters died. Rhynox died at one point he came back.
(24:10):
Optimist Prime like died like because he got trapped in
the and got shot into space and blown up, and
Dino Bot died. There's a point we thought cheat or died,
but he came back in U.
Speaker 4 (24:24):
Like well, and then everybody dies at the end. It
could because the Beast Wars ends with the Maximal's win.
Speaker 2 (24:37):
Oh oh, you mean the protocolons all die.
Speaker 4 (24:39):
Well, everybody dies because Megatron is able to go you know,
tom Port or whatever. And then Optimist Rad trapped black
Oracnea Black Ira. They follow him because Black Ragna pulls
a din and BT at some one season two swaps
(25:02):
and then she has a love story with silver Wing.
Speaker 2 (25:05):
Then there's a point silver Wing ends up becoming a
villain another like.
Speaker 4 (25:10):
Yeah, because when they the beginning to beat Machines, when
they go through that, you know, they follow Megatron through
the time portal and they get their Megatron has changed everything.
Megatron rules Cybertron, and then he's got his like three lieutenants,
which is tank.
Speaker 1 (25:25):
Core and the other two I can't remember. There was
tank Core's Ryan Ox, the one that.
Speaker 2 (25:32):
There was a jet kind like.
Speaker 4 (25:34):
Jet with silver Wing. They're able to They're able to
get silver Wing to.
Speaker 1 (25:39):
Go back to being a maximum. They're not successful with
ron Ox.
Speaker 2 (25:42):
And then there was some little speech the one that
was its own Yeah, because Waspurn wasn't.
Speaker 1 (25:50):
Yes, yes it was.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
Waspinator was also the only survivor of and that's the.
Speaker 4 (25:55):
Thing is, uh, aside from those you know for maximals,
silver Wing, Waspinat and Megatron and Rhinos, everybody else is
dead when you think about it, because Megatron goes back
and changes things, so all the they're all gone, you know,
(26:21):
Tiger Tron and Inferno and all. Because it's like the
cast kept growing and growing because they would kept they
kept you know, uh. I think it was when they
when they initially crashed land, both sides released you know,
skatee pods into the thestforms into orbit, and slowly as
(26:41):
the series goes one more.
Speaker 2 (26:43):
Than you would pull down well, and they would also
find like there was also.
Speaker 4 (26:47):
The Silver Wing was one of them that pulled down,
and Inferno and Tiger Tron.
Speaker 2 (26:52):
And what was let's see here, I cannot remember. Here
we are there was Transmute, who was the the protoform
that was truly damaged. That was the kind of a
little mental It was this transmutant.
Speaker 4 (27:17):
Well, and then you get the whole storyline in one
season it was doing the trans metals. I think when
they found the arc yeah, with the with.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
Gen one, Yeah, and they're all states like, yeah, they're
on station's lock until and.
Speaker 4 (27:33):
Then that's an optimist take to protect the autobox Matrix
of leadership takes optimist prime spark, It puts it inside
of himself and he becomes optimal optimist and he's like
a gorilla truck.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
Well, like a gorilla tank slash.
Speaker 1 (27:52):
It's weird.
Speaker 4 (27:53):
The transmittal things was a little like, uh, some of
them were cool, and they were cool, but they felt
a little gimmicky because it's like as a kid, and
it's just this is just how it was as a kid.
Speaker 1 (28:05):
It's like, yeah, that's cool. I want a good story.
Speaker 4 (28:10):
Still, I don't care how they look and they're all
trans medaling and or whatever, because.
Speaker 1 (28:16):
Like my boy Rod don't.
Speaker 2 (28:19):
Well because the only ones who went trans metal you
had this this Transila scientist, you had Megatron.
Speaker 1 (28:33):
Ter Tarsor diesn't.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
I think Terrootword does pretty sure.
Speaker 4 (28:38):
He tries to take over the Protocons, yeah, because he
kind of became like the star scream ass character and
it just doesn't any well.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
Because the funny thing is I think like that like
the well, like the kind of the running gag with
the like with the Predacons, is they blew up a
lot into pieces.
Speaker 1 (29:00):
Yeah, especially Waspinator, Like that.
Speaker 2 (29:02):
Was like the like a lot. The funny thing is
there was like the the running gag of like the
Fox Kids back then, especially for like shows like that,
it was always that one character that blew up or something. Yeah,
like because like yeah it was Waspinator. Did it happen
to him Fernom a lot too, because he couldn't die. Yeah,
(29:26):
Because there's a point like.
Speaker 4 (29:27):
You haven't gotten that far in the series.
Speaker 1 (29:30):
I'm about halfway through season one with Oliver.
Speaker 2 (29:32):
Okay, Yeah, so I don't think he's ready for when
Donald but dies.
Speaker 1 (29:41):
No, that's gonna wreck him.
Speaker 2 (29:43):
It's not about his favorite character. You're gonna call me
when none happens, you're gonna give me a before and after.
Speaker 4 (29:52):
Yeah, that's yeah, that's that's gonna that's gonna not be fun.
Speaker 2 (29:57):
But yeah, like Beast Wars, it's so was it came
in a huge line because like around that same time,
like after Beast Wars, we like Transformers blew up major.
Speaker 1 (30:10):
Oh yeah, it like brought the whole whole line back. Yeah,
because it was just kind of dead in the water for.
Speaker 2 (30:16):
A while because like happened because after the movie, Like
when when did the original run of Transformers was the
mid eighties? Yeah, so it was.
Speaker 1 (30:27):
And and with.
Speaker 4 (30:27):
Any eighties cartoon, it's like you have your original run,
but then you go into syndication for years and you
still have the toy line for years because.
Speaker 1 (30:36):
Like ged Joe, which I was obsessed with.
Speaker 4 (30:37):
As a kid, which we might do jed Joe cartoonomy.
Speaker 2 (30:44):
I didn't watch a lot of jo Joe, so I love.
Speaker 4 (30:47):
It was my absolute favorite thing on Planet Earth when
I was like between like six and six and eight. Yeah,
that's all I want. I wanted money, I got bought
gad Joe. Any any any TV turns?
Speaker 2 (31:04):
I got one to watch the jee Okay, so that
was a test. Okay. So the original Transformers was nineteen
eighty four to nineteen eighty seven, so there was a
span so eighty seven, eighty eight, eighty nine, nine four
and found six, so.
Speaker 1 (31:20):
Eight years of just some reruns.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
Of just reruns.
Speaker 4 (31:24):
And I want to say, by the time Sports came out,
the toy the Transformers toy line was kind of defunct.
Speaker 2 (31:31):
Like it wasn't like they had like you know, Gen
two and like was being survived by the comics and
stuff like that.
Speaker 4 (31:38):
You just did the comics, but they weren't. It wasn't like, yeah,
because Sports happened. It was like, oh, bait m Transformers.
Speaker 2 (31:44):
Yeah, and then yeah, because I'm just saying, if it
wasn't for Fox, they're like that's what saved it. Like
at least for us, it was Fox Kids, like because
Beast Wars like like three emptied because then we ended
up getting like it blew up. If it wasn't for
(32:05):
Beast Wars, Transformers probably would not be around like it
is now.
Speaker 4 (32:09):
No, you wouldn't have a lot of action movies. You
wouldn't have Transformers, Armanda, Transformers and Inner.
Speaker 2 (32:14):
John because after because after Transformed, because after bast Wars
over here in the States. We had uh, we had
beast machines and based machines did okay, and then we
it was.
Speaker 4 (32:28):
They tried to They improved the CGI somewhat and the
stories were still good, but.
Speaker 2 (32:35):
Like it was kind of like that Uncanny Valley look
a little bit.
Speaker 1 (32:40):
There was like late nineties, early few thousand.
Speaker 2 (32:41):
Also around the same time, like you had let's see
what other like because three D was still like in
its early stages, so.
Speaker 4 (32:49):
You'd have some you'd have some cartoons that would incorporated
somewhat like Zyber nine.
Speaker 2 (32:53):
Well, not only that, were.
Speaker 1 (32:55):
Some bits that were c well not you had Reboot O.
I loved Reboot.
Speaker 2 (33:01):
You had like you had Reboot, you had Donkey Kong Country,
you had you had dinosaurs, you had.
Speaker 1 (33:10):
Zoids, zoid zoids because the zoids themselves.
Speaker 2 (33:15):
Were Yeah, so I'd saying there was like early.
Speaker 1 (33:19):
Oh did you ever watch Starship Troopers? No, that is
a fantastic series because.
Speaker 4 (33:25):
It's all CG and it's because I love the Have
you seen this Startup Troopers movie? Well, it's Robert Highline
what you're talking about wrote it and then.
Speaker 1 (33:40):
Which it was written. The movie is over the top
of ridiculous and I love it.
Speaker 4 (33:46):
Then, like the book is much more serious and the
series is based more in the book, and so it is.
I've got most of the series on DVD. It's very
gritty and it's not you know, it's it's not the movie, yeah,
but it's in that whole and it's and it's one
(34:06):
of those like Beasts Wars like like eh, but the
stories are fantastic.
Speaker 2 (34:10):
Yeah, because like after Beast Machines, they ended up giving
us Robots in Disguise, which was an anime.
Speaker 1 (34:17):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 2 (34:18):
Yeah, and then like that's like where it got really good.
And then we got the beginning of the of the
Unicorn trilogery trilogy, which was Armada uh Ner John and
then Cyber.
Speaker 4 (34:36):
Yeah, and then you had a bevy of Transformers video games. Yeah,
it came out, yeah, and it was the franchise was
was kind of dead in the water, and then be
Wars showed up and just shot in the arm. That
hasn't gone away.
Speaker 2 (34:51):
Yet, yeah, And that's the thing, like there's some points
that they're still going strong to this day. Like a
lot of the stories like have changed a lot, but
that's a thing, like anybody who like is a big
Transformers fan that's not the old school, but has said
beast Wars was one of the reasons that I got
(35:12):
into and Transformers, into Transformers, especially you for our generation
at least.
Speaker 1 (35:17):
Yeah, I'd been into Transformers because.
Speaker 4 (35:23):
It it came on well what was on Fox was
on Fox or CPS is back in Santy Warner Cartoons.
It came on right before Jed Job. Yeah, I was
obsessed with jud Job. So I always watched Jed Joe.
Speaker 1 (35:38):
That was my slot.
Speaker 4 (35:39):
I made sure that I had so you know sometimes
you know, my brother would watch Transformers before to watch
he had Joe White catch the talent of Transformers.
Speaker 1 (35:49):
So I've seen a bunch. I've seen the movies everything,
it had, some of the toys and so yeah, the.
Speaker 4 (35:56):
Fact that it was Transformers to beast Warts is but
peaked my interests.
Speaker 1 (36:00):
Yeah, I was like, oh, this is this whole thing.
It's whole its own thing, and it's awesome.
Speaker 2 (36:04):
Yeah. But for me, I will say, like, it was
Beast Wars that got me into Transformers.
Speaker 8 (36:13):
And I'm a little older than you, an older millennial. Yeah,
yeare you were born you were born when the first
Bush was president.
Speaker 2 (36:24):
I was ninety two.
Speaker 4 (36:26):
Yeah, I was born in the presidentcy a good old
Randy Reagan.
Speaker 2 (36:34):
But that's thing and because with it, like my fa
like one of my favorite Transformers besides Beast Wars, I
had to say, is animated? Have you seen animated?
Speaker 1 (36:48):
No? I don't think so.
Speaker 2 (36:49):
That Animated came after Cybertron.
Speaker 1 (36:53):
I liked Armada a lot.
Speaker 2 (36:56):
I got I'm actually I got Armada.
Speaker 4 (36:58):
On because I'd watched all the Beast Wars and then
watched the Beast Machines and then I kind of stopped
watching I kind of stopped watching cartoons for a little
while later, and then I just happened to watch an
episode of Armana and just got totally hooked.
Speaker 1 (37:19):
And I really liked Turnmana.
Speaker 2 (37:22):
Oh with Armada was a fantastic story, especially with the
mini cons.
Speaker 1 (37:26):
I really enjoyed.
Speaker 4 (37:27):
Armana had a good video game too, Yeah, it did,
it did.
Speaker 2 (37:36):
That was also one of the early ones where like
tea cartoons were starting to get video games, because a
lot of that wasn't like really a thing.
Speaker 4 (37:43):
Back see, unfortunately the Beast Wars did not have good
video games.
Speaker 2 (37:47):
There was there was.
Speaker 1 (37:48):
A fighting, there was a tournament fighting that was transmittals and.
Speaker 2 (37:53):
I think there was one more PC one.
Speaker 4 (37:56):
It was okay, it wasn't anything to write home about.
Speaker 1 (38:04):
Kind I wish they would. I wish they came out
with a Transformers Tournament fighter that was all of Transformers ever.
Speaker 2 (38:12):
Kind of like what they did with the Power Rangers
or sort of.
Speaker 1 (38:15):
Yeah, but like I want I want everybody, I want.
Speaker 4 (38:19):
I want to have sound Wave beat the living crap
out of like Star Scream Live Action.
Speaker 1 (38:30):
I want it all. I'll give it the DLC, give
me everybody, everybody, everybody I want. I want to I
want to Infronto versus Cup.
Speaker 2 (38:41):
I want everybody Cup, Kimmy Cup versus Ratchet. Yeah, just
sit there just cussing each other out to lil stories.
But I was on this battle of everything else. But
because like another thing about Beast Wars at the time,
(39:04):
it was something that I felt like it was really
needed for the time, especially where growing up at that age,
it was something that actually matured with people. That's something
like the Actually it was a good grounding form of Hey,
we can give these kids a story, but let's let's
(39:25):
let them, like you know, experience a little bit more
mature and see how they do.
Speaker 4 (39:30):
Yeah, I mean it's it's I mean the storylines were
really good and entertaining, but yeah, they had some some
depth to them you didn't get with like yeah, he'll
even a lot of the time it was just like
back over there.
Speaker 1 (39:48):
Yeah, shoot back.
Speaker 2 (39:49):
Guy, because that's the same. Like because there's some points
like people like like there were some points that some
characters actually did you know, as we said before, some
characters actually died never return. Yeah, there were there was
even consequences like there was shoot. Then there was even
the love connections between some characters. Yeah, like between Azor
(40:09):
and uh Tagertron.
Speaker 1 (40:12):
Yeah yeah, and by her aggans they were weighing. Yeah,
there was there was some depth.
Speaker 2 (40:18):
Yeah, there was some drama and stuff like that.
Speaker 4 (40:21):
And and I mean you had your over the top
much tast twirling villain and Megatron. Yeah, then you had
you know, your honor bound guys and down about.
Speaker 2 (40:31):
And it was a good mix of the trumps.
Speaker 1 (40:33):
You'r's like stoic.
Speaker 2 (40:36):
Because and actually, if I'm being honest, like I.
Speaker 1 (40:39):
Think guys like Tron.
Speaker 2 (40:42):
Well like a lot of it I think actually kind
of really started in the Transformer stuff because there were
some things you didn't really see a lot of that
in like the original transfer.
Speaker 4 (40:51):
Ollen One, Oh no, Jen One was just there to
sell toys. Yeah, there wasn't a no, it was I
mean Gen one and and jad Joe.
Speaker 1 (41:00):
There was no depth.
Speaker 4 (41:02):
It was just like these are the good guys, these
are the bad guys, and then they fight.
Speaker 2 (41:06):
I mean, here's the next the toys out next week.
Speaker 4 (41:08):
Yeah, I mean yeah, you could tell who was who
was a bad guy from the collar that the lasers
shot when they shot their gun. Jad Joe's were red
and Cookers was blue, and that was it. There was
just black and white area.
Speaker 2 (41:25):
Yeah, because there was some points to where you even
shoot even some of the villains. You there's some points
you felt bad for the villains. Yeah, but it was
like it was one of those shows that actually grew
and it and I think like Beast Wars also kind
of gave like you know, the stereotypes with it because
(41:46):
with Cheetor like really sunked with a lot of kids
as like you know, the hot because like you kind
of saw it a little bit in the movies, like
in the in the first Transform movies, like you know,
kind of like that hot shot ass character Cheeta or
like they were like they were setting that boundaries of
a formula that it was kind of set later. That's
(42:06):
kind of set the foundation for other shows in the
genres because you had like, you know, the honor, like.
Speaker 1 (42:13):
The well like with Chee Tour. As much as I
didn't care for Chee Tour, Uh, he's the hot Ride.
Speaker 2 (42:20):
Of Beast, and he grew as he went Hot Ride.
Speaker 4 (42:23):
Never did Hot Ride from the first appearances Hot Ride,
and even when he was riding his prime and then
back to Hot Ride, he was just still the same
old you know, I'm the best and I'm great, and
you know.
Speaker 1 (42:39):
Chee Tour. Chee Tour started out like that by bees Machines.
G Tour. Chee Tour is like a is a much
more toned down realistic.
Speaker 4 (42:50):
He still has the energy, but it's a it's a
more Yeah, it's a little more muty.
Speaker 2 (42:56):
Like like the wise cracking you know, like a wise
cracking piece of shit. But and that's the thing, like
it showed that, like he even grew as a character
like with it.
Speaker 1 (43:10):
Yeah, they all had a really good character grow. I
mean even Prime like.
Speaker 2 (43:15):
After was primal, like he he was a good like
he was he was growing as a leader because there's
points he even screwed up. There's like he screwed up
majorly and he had to learn from his mistakes multiple
times because also with this one.
Speaker 1 (43:31):
Was made mistakes. He was always a perfect leader.
Speaker 2 (43:35):
Yeah, because with Primal there was a point to where
it was his first time in charge. Yeah, and he's
still like he's trying to do what's best for his namesake.
Speaker 1 (43:45):
Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (43:47):
And like even liked the way they made the Beast
Wars characters legit affected like stories from like how they
did the like Transformers from the it on out, especially
when it came to each of those tropes. It stop
like the strong like the wise old character you like
(44:09):
I saying you kind of see that like from like
you know, Cup Ratchet and all that stuff, but it
wasn't perfected until Rhinox. Yeah, and then like you see that,
like you know he Rhinos has seen plenty of war
and other stuff, but there's a point like he's like
the Uncle Iro before Iro.
Speaker 1 (44:28):
But this is like bad.
Speaker 4 (44:32):
Yeah, but that was I was That was one of
the most heart wrenching things I've ever watched as a child.
Speaker 2 (44:36):
I remember, if I'm being honest, I guess like when
I there was a point, like I watched a lot
of Bees Machines, but I didn't get a lot to
watch of it because around Saturday mornings, I got stuck doing,
uh soccer. I was a little fat kid doing soccer,
so instead of just being home watch of cartoons like
I wanted, you know.
Speaker 1 (44:58):
Well, at heart wrenching is like TV shows.
Speaker 2 (45:01):
I think I blocked that out, to be honest, because
I like, there's a point I legit. Didn't remember that
until I was watching the basics of videos and I
was like, I don't remember this.
Speaker 4 (45:11):
I just I just remember being like kind of despondent
after that episode where, you know, because they find out that,
you know, Megatron's main lieutenants are animated by the sparks
of you know, Wasppann or silver Wing and Rhine Ox,
and they're able to save silver Wing, I.
Speaker 1 (45:28):
Don't care about Waspinners and whatever. But then they go to.
Speaker 4 (45:32):
Tank Cor you know, have whatever conversation with tank Core
and they make tang Core realize that he is Rhinos
and he's like, I don't care.
Speaker 2 (45:41):
I'm too far gone.
Speaker 4 (45:43):
I'm too far gone, you know what, I'm gonna take
over Cybertron.
Speaker 1 (45:47):
And I was like, right, Ox rhight os. He knows
he's right ox and he still wants to be a
bad eye. Are you kidding me? But uhl on, did
you have any of the you had some of the toys?
Speaker 2 (46:10):
Yeah, not the ones I wanted. Well, well, the one
I did have that well that I still have to
this day was Maga Tron.
Speaker 4 (46:22):
That transmittals Megatron, well, one of the transmitts because he
was he was t Rex and he was transmitted.
Speaker 2 (46:28):
I did have a knock I did have a knockoff
like Dino Bots that like I got like a best Buy,
I mean not a best Buy but a big lots
but instead of being a t Rex.
Speaker 7 (46:42):
It was a.
Speaker 2 (46:45):
Help me out here hardtheads, the ram hardtheads or I
can't remember the the like the Lamb before time equivalent.
Speaker 1 (46:59):
But no, I had a had a because I had
a few I had.
Speaker 2 (47:04):
I had the ant well I had I think I
had the ants. I can't remember, like what happened to me?
Speaker 1 (47:10):
And I had a trans metals rat trap had.
Speaker 2 (47:14):
I wanted a transmittal trat trap I had.
Speaker 4 (47:19):
I had a cheat tour because somebody got it for
me as a gift and I was like, I'm I
hate me a little shitty kid. Look fine, he'll just
get killed a lot had ote prime promo, like not
transmittals or anything. And then I had the transmittal one
of him because he had to surf for Yeah, that
(47:41):
was cool.
Speaker 1 (47:43):
And then I had.
Speaker 4 (47:46):
The trans Metal Dinabot, the bag, the cloned Dynabot, and
I want to say I had trans I didn't have
a ton and I had a silver one. I had
enough I could play with him, you know. Then I
had a buddy and this was the body I think
I've talked about before, where like he lived with his grandparents,
and his grandparents got him everything ever, every Lego set,
(48:06):
every transformer, every console, every Pokemon card, everything.
Speaker 3 (48:10):
But God love him, he was not like a spoil
little shit. They just got him the stuff. He didn't
even like ask for it. They would just come home like, hey,
I got you this. And he had every transformer, yeah,
of every beast and the one he had optimal Optimists.
This thing was like three.
Speaker 2 (48:31):
Feet because in the show he was like he was three.
Speaker 1 (48:36):
Times the size of anybody else.
Speaker 2 (48:41):
He like Outim's promo was one of the largest ones
until Unicorn came out for the uh Uh. During the
Unicorn trilogy.
Speaker 4 (48:51):
Yeah, yeah, but he lit up and you know this
stuff and he pressed buttons and he'd say stuff and.
Speaker 2 (48:59):
No, I actually the biggest one they did, the tallest
one was because I did have the uh the train
like the Beast machines cheet or the giant one.
Speaker 4 (49:12):
Yeah, but I mean it was just I mean it
was so big and I thought it was just like
the coolest thing.
Speaker 1 (49:21):
And he was just like, eh, I don't care for
it at all, like this, this is awesome. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (49:28):
So like for for the voice actress and stuff, we
had Scott McNeil, who did the voice of rat Trap,
Dino bought Waspinator and Silver Boat, so Scott's.
Speaker 1 (49:42):
Silver I've been calling him silver Wing the whole time.
Speaker 2 (49:45):
Silver bowld Yeah yeah, because uh Scott McNeil. If I'm
not mistaken, let's see what else they do. He was, uh,
I know I should know why he's in. But like
some of his more popular ones, because he does a lot,
(50:05):
a lot of different stuff. He was like Flammed from
My Little Pony. He was drawn to. It was a
drawt on from World of Warcraft. Come on, I know
he's done, Like, come on, what's some of his older stuff?
Because That's the thing if I like, the part of
(50:26):
me is just like, wasn't he the voice of rock Out?
And it's like no, because he was not. Because he
was the voice of Piccolo in the Ocean Group Dubs.
It was mister White from Johnny Test. That's think he's
done a lot, but right now it's not really like
(50:47):
I can't really find anything that's like that, like would
really pop out to you that he's done.
Speaker 1 (50:57):
It was co Oh, he was.
Speaker 2 (50:58):
Coga from Yasha, but he was Twin Masters from A
Hero Went Away. Uh, let's see here. Oh, he played
a storking' Stormhawks.
Speaker 1 (51:14):
Say.
Speaker 2 (51:14):
I don't know if you've ever that was another show
kind of similar that Stormhawks. Yeah, he just watched silver Hawks.
Speaker 1 (51:23):
Yeah, that was a ranking bass. It was came out
around Fandrick.
Speaker 2 (51:30):
Let's see here he was Snarl. He was Oh, he
did the voice of uh of Eric Tan from Kong
the Animate series, so he was like the voice of
the main character. And you had Gary Caulk Caulk see
(52:00):
h a l K who was Optimist Primal. He played
the proto humans. He was jen one Megatron. He did
a fantastic job. Oh yeah, I'd say like that's saying
if they ended up like something happened to uh Frank, Yeah,
well like enough, no the voice of Optimus Prime right now,
(52:24):
I hate myself. I should know the guy's name. Help
me out here.
Speaker 1 (52:29):
Did the voice of Peter.
Speaker 2 (52:32):
Peter Colin?
Speaker 3 (52:33):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (52:33):
So yeah, yeah, Like if some happened to Peter Colin,
I would accept Gary Cole as as like as a
good replacement. Then you got ian Ian James Corletts. It
did a cheat or Sentinel and all that. Richard Newman,
(52:57):
who was the voice of Rhino's his his daughter is
a TikTok star. He still does stuff like if I
think he passed No, no, he's still a love Yeah,
he still does tiktoks and stuff like I discovered his
daughter by accident like on TikTok and he's just like said, like,
(53:17):
what's your Like one claim to fame My dad was
Rye Knox and everybody blew up. It's like, how is
he He's doing good? David Kane as Megatron. What else
has David Kane done? Is yes, Tron, let's see here
(53:38):
he has done. Uh he's still doing like a bunch
of like voiceover works, but he doesn't do a lot.
The last big one I think he did was he like,
he looks like he does like kind of extra voiceover
for teen Titans Go. He was a Dragon Superman from
(53:59):
some other stuff. He was the voice of Question from
Have you seen the Crisis on Infinite Earth's movie Yet?
Speaker 1 (54:08):
I don't believe?
Speaker 2 (54:09):
So it's really good. Let's see here anything of recent
like it looks like he's still doing stuff, but not
anything big. It looks like he's done like some video games.
He was Cringer from he Man and the Masters of
the Universe.
Speaker 1 (54:28):
He Man and the Masters of the Universe.
Speaker 2 (54:30):
The Netflix series that like, not the good one, like
the more Angled towards Kids. He did Vandal Savage from
Young Justice. He it's a saying so he's Oh, you
did the voice of Blue Falcon from from Scooby Doo
(54:51):
and I guess you. Oh shit. He was the voice
of Ford Crawler from Psycho nots to.
Speaker 1 (55:00):
I have seen it.
Speaker 2 (55:01):
No, that's a video game. You need to play that.
That is fantastic. But now it looks like a lot
of the stuff he's done is just kind of here
and there. Uh. Venus Terzo from Black Orachnea looks like
she was Jean Gray from from X Men Evolution. Okay,
(55:24):
so it looks looks like they're what she hasn't really
done much. Well, I don't know, just she was an arrow.
She was doctor Schwartz, so she was so she's she's
still active.
Speaker 1 (55:44):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (55:44):
Tarantulis Alec Alec Willows. It looks like he's still somewhat active. Yeah,
somewhat active the last like he was Oolong from from
Dragon Ball Z in one of the old Uh oh
really yeah, so like it looks like he still does
(56:08):
stuff but not much like, you know, somewhat roles here
and there, Inferno Jim Burns Byrons uh last major thing
looks like he's done was.
Speaker 1 (56:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (56:24):
That to say, it looks like a lot of them
are still kind of active periodically, like and here's an
episode here and there and all that. Uh. Doc Don
Brown Scorpronock looks like probably be the one who's a
little probably more the most active so far, Like he's
(56:47):
doing a lot of stuff here and there. He's he
still looks like he's doing like a bunch of random
movies and stuff. I guess he's doing the voice of
Tom from Tom and Jared. Yeah, like the screams and
stuff like that. Yeah, so it's he does anime, he
(57:11):
was in Cyclonists.
Speaker 1 (57:14):
That's saying.
Speaker 2 (57:15):
So a lot of them are looks like to still
be slus. Yeah, a lot of them still seem to
be somewhat going on. But yeah, that's sing it's so
a lot like a lot of them are still active periodically.
But I think we can say this, but if it
(57:36):
was for a beast Wars, I think Transformers probably would
not be as good as it used as it is now.
Speaker 4 (57:44):
No, I don't think there would have been much of
anything else. I think it would have just kind of
died sort of like Matches in the Universe or ThunderCats. Yeah,
like it's the best days would be the eighties and
maybe have failed revival here there that.
Speaker 2 (58:02):
Yeah, because that's the same, because like shoot, because that's them,
to be honest, like Optimist Prime and all that, Like
that's the same. Like you can't like when like people
bring up, like, you know, who's their favorite Prime, there's
a lot of people say, like, well, yeah, I always
say Optimist Prime, but yeah, it's like that, a lot
(58:23):
of people say Primal.
Speaker 1 (58:26):
I like Primal, but I mean then that Megatron is
my favorite.
Speaker 2 (58:31):
Magatrons because like there's a point to where a lot
of the inspirations from like Beast Wars actually leads into Animated.
And that's why I say you need to watch Animated
because it's like kind of the same, like very very
good like storytelling. When it comes to like content, well
(58:54):
sit it to I'd say, but it is late for us.
So everybody, we want to welcome everybody back to an
episode of cartoonmy.
Speaker 1 (59:08):
Go watch Beast Wars and if regret it.
Speaker 2 (59:12):
Yeah, So for anybody who is listening, we do appreciate
the listen, give it a share, give us a like,
watch beast Wars, watch Beast Wars. Tell everybody how much
we suck, but have a have a week. Everyone. Thank
you for listening to.
