Speaker 1 (00:00):
My name is Sebastian Talay.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
This is great, it's beenett and today we tape a
sign to our table. Currently we taped our sign on
our table onto Dexter line, where we now wait for
people to come talk to us and hopefully tell us
something about their dates, not the fruit.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
Exactly exactly alright, are we recording? Okay?
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Cool?
Speaker 4 (00:20):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Sorry, okay, I cannot wait. If you use that, he
will he will do that, all right. I believe in
ben Hi.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
Welcome to Chatterbocks Episode two. My name is Grace.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
My name is Sebastian Tala.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
And right now we are sat at a plastic fold
out table right on good old Dexter lawn with a
sign taped to the table asking what are the best
and worst date spots in slow? Valentine's Day is coming
up and it's tomorrow, oh my goodness, and we are
looking for best and worst date spots and slow and
also some interesting stories that people may have about their
(00:57):
best and worst dates.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
You got any.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
I do? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:05):
What's the sex is saying? Ladies first get in there?
Speaker 3 (01:08):
Thank you, Sebastian. Well, I guess I haven't been on
many dates, truthfully, I guess the worst one you could say,
which I feel really bad saying because the guy was
so sweet. But it was during quarantine, months and months
and months after it started, I want to say, like
ground October and I reconnected with this boy that I
(01:29):
dated in preschool. He was my preschool boyfriend and he
went to a different high school.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
You really dug deep for that one.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
Oh yeah, dug deep. Options are limited. And we set
up a date and it was my first ever date.
I was absolutely shitting my pants so nervous. I walked
down to the shave ice shop. He's there, and I
don't know what the first.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Thing to do is did you start beat boxing? Oh?
Speaker 5 (01:54):
You know?
Speaker 3 (01:55):
That came later. That came in a different date, different guy,
But yeah, it was. It was nice, it was quaint.
We after the date, we were walking back to my house.
He was walking me back and he said, could I
hold your hand? And a little backstory. I have chronically
clammy hands, always sweaty. I use an anti persperant hand cream. Wow,
(02:18):
I'm digging deep in this podcast. And so when he
said that, I didn't know how to say no. So
I was like sure, And then I could feel him
like WinCE when I took his hand because my hand
was so sweaty. And then a minute later I was like,
oh shoot, my oh crap. My mom texted me so
that I could let go his hand, and then I
very awkwardly walked back to my house.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
Yeah, so he just left the man to dry.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
Yeah, he was so nice. He was such a kind
kind man. I feel so bad that he was subject
to my hands.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Did you talk to each other afterwards?
Speaker 3 (02:55):
Yeah? We went on one more date, which was nice,
and then we just kind of went to a prom
together and we just kind of stopped talking. Better better
friends than dates.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
At least you figured that one out. Yes, always a
good thing.
Speaker 3 (03:08):
Did figure that one out? Yeah? What about you?
Speaker 2 (03:11):
I've never been on a date, Okay, I'm.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
A scared man.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
Scared man, Okay. Do you have like a dream date
that you would like to take someone on or you
just haven't even thought about it?
Speaker 1 (03:23):
I barely think about it.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
There's like been a few moments where it's like, yeah,
you could call that a date, but like, you know,
in hindsight, I wouldn't really call them that. Like, do
you consider taking someone to prom like a date?
Speaker 3 (03:39):
Yeah? If you like asked them? Did you ask them.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
No, they asked me, oh okay, And I was really
just taken aback because I have I have better self
esteem now, but I would really low self esteem back then.
And it was a girl that I was like, I
would say friends, but it was like awkward friends. She
was a it's a little too off the rocker.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
She was quick to anger and just so loud. It
was like kind of funny to like, you know, bug
her the bad things. But just you know, we went on.
We went to prom together and it's just not it's like,
I don't know, I wasn't really feeling it.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
Yeah, I had fun.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
I also wore my favorite outfit that I will probably
ever wear.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
Please do describe it.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
For prom. I got a pink suit.
Speaker 6 (04:31):
Oh what kind of pink? Like a baby pink, like
a nice light pink. I would say light pink has
some richness to it. But it's not too like in
your face about it. You know, it's easy to look at.
Speaker 7 (04:47):
Yeah, I have a picture. I should find it warmsts
it I need. The image is my favorite image there
it is.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
Whoa, Oh that's sick.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
So I wore that and I was really happy about
it because when we first showed up to the venue.
My friend was literally just losing his mind of like,
no fucking way you actually did it because I told
him I'm gonna wear a pink suit, like just for
weeks on end, like it's.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
My favorite color.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
I'm going to make sure I like, am very happy
with how I look. And we found one and he
was losing his shit over it.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
It was a great time.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
Admittedly, I did kind of ditch my date to talk
with someone else who does go here. I still talk
to her, so I guess that's another day.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
Okay, romance in pursuit.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
Yeah, well, I've known this girl since high school, but
like we didn't really interact until junior year where we
worked on a project and you know, we became really
good friends because of that project, because it was really
just the two of us and you don't really have
much the choice at that point. I really liked her.
(06:05):
I had no idea how she felt, and I was
not willing to like ask her in the slightest because
I was like, hey, friends is pretty great.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
I'm not going to like mess that up.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
I was like, if she wants to like change that status,
fine by me. I'm just going to see in the
in the friend area where I know it's nice and safe.
Everything is going great here. Whatever happens happened. And I
think like last quarter we had been we would go
out to like like just to eat every other week,
(06:42):
just hang out as friends, catch up with each other,
and you know, she like admitted to me that there
was someone in her club that she really liked and
she was about to ask me for advice, and I
was like, that is listen, I'm going to stop you
right there. I'm really happy for you, but I am
not the person to ask about this because hey, never
been in the romance and be I really liked you.
(07:06):
And it went over really well. It was really funny,
but it short circuited her brain. Like we had to
like basically just go like okay, let's go get like,
let's go to Slodoka, get you a nice hot apple
cier and just go home because she couldn't lately, she
just couldn't form sentences so thrown off by It was
really funny because I know exactly why she had that response,
(07:31):
and it's because she really likes reading like romance manga,
so to her, I think she just had like one
of those moments and just wasn't ready for it, but
we're still friends to this point. We just don't see
each other as often because she's an architecture student, right,
the poor girl.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
Yeah, a common a common vault of all architecture students.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
They're just busy.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
They're just busy, just busy.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
They have a.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
Class called studio and it lasts five hours and you
have to be there all five hours.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
It sucks. Well, thank you for sharing your story. I
do hope this goes over.
Speaker 1 (08:08):
Well.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
Have you guys seen each other since then?
Speaker 2 (08:10):
Uh? Yeah, since like the Admintons, Yeah, plenty of times,
and no, like, oh it's going fun. We just ok
we moved on past. There's not no reason to stay
in it, right, Okay, So yeah, I have attempts, but
not actuals.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
All right, Lauren Hi is our producer for Chatterbox.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
I'm sorry, but I completely forgot about you.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
Oh that's whoa Oh my gives.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
The way that like you guys line up, I can't
see Lauren very well.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Oh she was over.
Speaker 5 (08:46):
I thought you men generally had no idea like you
turned around, and because of the way your face tilted,
I could see Lauren again, and I'm like, oh my god,
she's been there.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
I just said that it's okay. So Lauren, we hear
you have a story to share.
Speaker 4 (09:04):
I do.
Speaker 8 (09:05):
I would say, well, the worst daste spot and slow
I think has to be VEG and I have been
on a VG date, so I feel like I should
tell my story.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
Oh my, go ahead, please no hate to the man.
He was great.
Speaker 8 (09:18):
It was kind of an accidental VG date. My roommate
and I. I lived in Sierra Madre, so I lived
right by VG. So every time I went, i'd just
be in like my pj's, you know, looking pretty bad.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (09:28):
My roommate and I went to VEG and we got
like the you know, like the self.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
Serve VEG area. Yes, yeah, So.
Speaker 8 (09:35):
We got that and we decided to sit down because
we were like, why not, let's not eat in our
dorm for once.
Speaker 3 (09:39):
So we're sitting next to each other.
Speaker 8 (09:40):
All of a sudden, the guy that I've kind of
been chatting with and talking to walks up to us
and he's kind of standing there talking to us for
about five minutes, and my roommate goes.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
Why don't you sit down? And so he sits down.
Speaker 8 (09:51):
He starts eating with us and my roommate looks at
her watch, she goes, actually, I have to go no,
and she leaves me with this man sitting like across
from me each other at the VG table eating our meal,
and I had no escape.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
I was set up.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
You were just out played by your roommates.
Speaker 3 (10:08):
I was. I was a cool trick. Yeah. And how
was the conversation? Was it awkward?
Speaker 8 (10:15):
It was just because you know, when you're at VEG
you kind of see everybody, you know, so I was
kind of just on high alert, you know, because there
was just people walking by everywhere. But you know, he's
a nice guy. We had talked many times. It wasn't
that awkward.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
And do you feel like the VEG date prompted any
further talking relationship or did like halt after that?
Speaker 8 (10:37):
I think not to his fault, but the ick I
got from being on a VG date. It might have
hurt the chances we saw each other a few more times,
but it didn't go far. But no fault to the
VG date. It just it was in my mind for
a few days vs starting relationships.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
Yeah, yes, most definitely.
Speaker 2 (10:58):
Speaking of I remember like early in my second year,
I just went back to Veg's because I was on
campus and I was hungry, and I went back just
to try the food, and it just there was something
about everything that like lined up and it was just
like this is like this could be a shot in
a movie with how depressing it is. It's like characters
at the bottom of their barrel, just like there. There
(11:20):
was no music playing at that time. The lights were
so dim and just like you know, there's it's pretty
dark out because the sun is setting.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
And then the food just well, it's vegan.
Speaker 8 (11:32):
The style of veg I feel like, just oh, it's
a hard place. It's not a romantic place, and it's
not like a cafeteria.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
Yeah, it's like a nostalgia's like has no power here.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
No, uhuh? What were you both eating? Do you remember?
Speaker 8 (11:48):
I was eating some like beans and rice dish and
he was eating the orange chicken from streets.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
No, no, no, from noodles. Okay, yeah, which is very good.
Speaker 8 (11:59):
Yeah don't I didn't even realize I remembered that, But
thanks for asking you.
Speaker 3 (12:03):
Of course, I.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
Only ever trusted one place in Fiji, some like one
and a half, because sometimes streets would be good, but
I always trusted just breakfast because it's like, Okay, I
know the chicken is good and the breakfast burritos.
Speaker 1 (12:17):
Are Yeah, I trust the process.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
Just yeah, breakfast burritos kind of slap. Sometimes he took.
Speaker 8 (12:25):
Had breakfast burritos before Saint Friday's last year, like got
like in the morning, what I've never had anything better
in my life?
Speaker 3 (12:32):
Oh my god.
Speaker 2 (12:34):
I think it was a huge miss though, to like,
you know, have a changing, uh like menu throughout the
day in course, yeah, because it's like you know, sometimes
it's you know, seven pm, and I just want to
breakfast free. I want some eggs and I want some sausages, like.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
I think we have another guy.
Speaker 1 (12:53):
Yeah, that's it.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
Thank you, Thank you so much, Lauren, appreciate you. Okay, okay,
get on in here. Hello, I'm Grace.
Speaker 1 (13:01):

We hear you have a meeting at one, so you
don't have much time, so please do do haste been
telling us?
Speaker 4 (13:12):
Okay, So so I've been like I'm in a long distance,
long distance relationship right now, so like like I haven't
been on much states here, but like back home, my
favorite thing to do is just like go to like
a nice sunset place because I'm like a sunset fiend personally.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
So, oh, okay, watch that with like someone you love.
Speaker 4 (13:33):
I think that's a really special thing to do. Definitely,
like it creates s like an emotional connection with that person.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (13:38):
Absolutely, the pictures.
Speaker 4 (13:40):
You take, memories you make.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
Yeah, it's nice. That's so nice. Do you bring food
usually with you? Snacks? Or is it just the sunset?
Speaker 4 (13:48):
Sorry, I'll bring a blanket with me just so we
can if you want to, we can get out of
the car and lay down on the grass or something.
Speaker 3 (13:55):
Yeah, lovely, Thank you so much. We appreciate your contribution.
Speaker 1 (14:00):

Speaker 3 (14:09):
Wonderful.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (14:12):
So you were walking past our little booth here and
you were saying that you just were looking up some
date spots and slow. Yeah, I was.
Speaker 9 (14:20):
I was leaving my classroom and I was I was
wondering where coold date spots would being slow, I was
I was trying to see places where I could possibly
get free food. Mainly, for the most part, the first
place in my mind went was like Madonna in it
seems like a very like romantic location. Possibly yeah, yeah,
but then my mind kind of went to like mal Bay.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
Oh yeah, yeah, like that big rock.
Speaker 3 (14:42):
You know it does.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
Something, you know, Oh it does something, it does something. Yeah, yeah,
but yeah that's yeah, what do you guys think?
Speaker 4 (14:48):
I don't really know.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
Madonna is very good. I am so on board with
getting free stuff though.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
Free stuff is big.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
You know. I don't even have to pay for it, no, exactly.
Speaker 1 (14:59):
I'm per sing a big fan of the sand dunes.
Sand dunes very romantic during sunset peak.
Speaker 9 (15:06):
Yeah, yeah, I can only imagine the purples and yellows
of the sand.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
It's just fun to just like jump around.
Speaker 3 (15:12):
And yeah, yeah I remember, I remember.
Speaker 9 (15:15):
Whenever you think whenever I think of the sandus always
think of the Honeyboy's album.
Speaker 3 (15:18):
Cover jumping down there. That's so funny.
Speaker 1 (15:22):
Yeah, that is a nice place to have a date.
That's a good idea, it is.
Speaker 3 (15:24):
Would you guys be posed to jumping in the ocean
as a part of as part of your date?
Speaker 2 (15:29):
Hey, that's a great idea.
Speaker 9 (15:31):
Actually, yeah, morro Bay, free stuff Dana in jump in
the Ocean.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
I think that I think you just made my plan.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
That's a that's a good idea.
Speaker 1 (15:41):
But what sand covering all of you?
Speaker 3 (15:44):
Oh? Romantic?
Speaker 1 (15:48):
Terrible texture? Yeah, not great.
Speaker 9 (15:50):
Always get some places where you don't want.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
It to be.
Speaker 3 (15:52):

picnic's neck? I would say, like maybe hard, classic, yes,
and sick Okay, yeah, wonderful. Have you been on a
on an airplane watching date before it?
Speaker 10 (20:07):
But I'm from La so Lax is like huge airport
and I like loves to.
Speaker 1 (20:12):
Come in there.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
Yeah, I'm from San Diego, so I have some issues
with La existing.
Speaker 1 (20:20):
But other than that, like.
Speaker 2 (20:25):
You forced me to like plan all my trips like
two hours in advance and leave really early because of
your traffic exactly. But like my school was like just
across the waters of the airport, and man, the teachers
hated that because it's just you know, they're they're having
a lecture and it's just you have to stop the conversations.
(20:51):
Like So, what I wanted to ask is like why
would that be a like good date You're talking with
someone and you just get interrupted by an air.
Speaker 3 (21:00):
That I don't know.
Speaker 1 (21:02):
Honestly, I just thought it would be fun to watch.
Speaker 5 (21:05):
Yeah, I didn't think about the interruption part. Man.
Speaker 10 (21:08):
They could give like if there's a little loward oh true,
would give like a little you.
Speaker 3 (21:12):
Know, yeah, engauge, like how comfort you are with that person? Yeah,
so true. Okay, maybe like a like a thirty fourth date. Yeah, yes, yeah, okay, Okay,
that's a.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
Good thing when they're already used to your bullshit exactactly
something like that.
Speaker 2 (21:27):
Okay, sure, a dream date to be sure.
Speaker 3 (21:29):
Yes, yes, thank you so much. Appreciate your answer. Thank
