Speaker 1 (00:34):
Welcome to the Chromaniacs. Everybody.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
It's week three of our San Diego FC dedicated podcast
and co production of San Diego Pluto Football and Padres
Hotab Studios. I'm Craig Elston, joined by Tony Sanchez and
Alex Panya.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
Good evening, gentlemen. We record on Thursday, June twelve, Episode
three of Chromaniacs SDFC podcast. Tony, what's going on?
Speaker 3 (01:03):
Oh man? Let me tell you.
Speaker 4 (01:04):
I've been hitting some sunshine outside and it's uh, you know.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
We're your sunscreen.
Speaker 4 (01:09):
And I'm really getting ready for the summer days, not
just in San.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
Diego, but of San Diego FC as well.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
Alex, how about you, brother?
Speaker 5 (01:19):
Yeah, just enjoying the beautiful weather out there. And yeah
it's gonna be another just like the SDFC promoted summer
of soccer. And yeah, we're we're all excited for it.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
Yeah, I'm I'm good. I'm as excited as a kid
wearing number three oh seven running out on the pitch,
you know, fresh and ready to go, as we are
fresh and ready to go for episode three of Chromaniacs.
A very brief housekeeping to get things started on the

please do nothing. Continue along in your life, interfere with
us no more and we'll be fine. You can do
your life and we'll do ours. Last piece of housekeeping
and shout out. Wanted to say shout out San Diego soccers,
(03:03):
specifically shout out Charlie Gonzales slash Charlie Golaso. I want
to shout out Sarada and Mitchell Cardon us the winners
and Christian Gutierrez. They were all members of Bumpy Pitch FC,
(03:24):
and they were all part of the championship team that
gets to split a million dollars. And this is the
soccers Charlie Gonzales, if you're watching on YouTube, hitting the
match winning golden goal, million dollar goal from midfield with
the keeper out for Pumas Dey Alabama. And actually Bumpy
(03:45):
Pitch went into target score time losing one nothing. Finish
forty minutes of match time losing one nothing. But the
way that TST works is you play until somebody scores
a target goal and it's always plus one to the
team that's leading. And so two was the target scorer,
and Charlie scored twice in target time to lead Bumpy Pitch.
(04:09):
And I don't know if you guys saw it, but
the TST had this gigantic like ceramic trophy. It was
like a ball that had all of the logos of
all of the teams of TST. It looked reasonably heavy
that they gave to the championship team. Did you guys
(04:32):
see what Bumpy PITCHFC did with the championship trophy?
Speaker 3 (04:37):
I did, Alex. Did you see what happened no, I
did not.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
Well, here it is. If you're watching on YouTube, they're
gonna do the trophy lift up. No, how about they
shattered it because they're all maniacs at that moment and
they're all getting at least like forty something grand They're
just like, yeah, we went to trophy trophy live trophy destruction.
Speaker 4 (05:09):
It looked attentional for sure, like, oh, for sure, it's
gonna bounce.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
Visceral celebrations after.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
I love about the sport seven on seven, eleven V eleven,
five on five to one V one. It's it elicits
very similar passions at the end of the day, it
really does.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
So shout out to those boys. And if you missed
any of FTST you can still catch replays on ESPN Plus.
You can find it on YouTube all of the highlights.
Sick Tournament in its third year, growing and growing, honestly,
and each of the three years the winning team has
had of San Diego soccers player on it. You know,
(06:00):
Morgan Drew Ruggles and Gabriel Costa the first year, Irvan
Mohika the second year, and this year four guys with
Gutierres and Gonzales and Serda and Cardons all the guys
that are out there at the end of matches Tony
for the San Diego Soccers.
Speaker 4 (06:18):
Yeah, it's almost like the San Diego Soccers should field
a team of their own, Hey, are not fused with
San Diego FC and a San Diego team at TST.
It was actually I was actually told that I could,
I could probably put up team together.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
I'm like, okay, I'd be down, but I can't fund it.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
But could you imagine if San Diego FC, I mean
even just at a right to Dream academy level mm hm,
put it together and then you fused it with the
indoor veterans that that populate TST and make.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
It go well, I mean to ground this with SANDYFC.
Speaker 6 (06:52):
Right.
Speaker 4 (06:52):
San Diego FC did field its first team in the
Futsal ISFA foot Futsal World Cup. UH that went and
won the NUTS Nationals here in Los Angeles, won the
local game in Barrio Logan, that went over across seas
into Riga Latvia.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
And played in the World Cup.
Speaker 4 (07:15):
Got third, representing San Diego but more specifically San Diego FC.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
UH.
Speaker 4 (07:21):
In that two former soccers, two players in that too,
just just you know, just putting that in there.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
Soccers are always there.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
Were the soccers. Two players that we're in there.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
Ah, did hear? I believe? I believe. Also, I'll send
the names over there.
Speaker 4 (07:43):
Might have grazed, you know, might have grased soccers too.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
I'm just I'm a devil for the details. No worries
about it. Okay, We've got plenty to come up, including
a preview of this week's MLS match, and it's a
big one in Minnesota against the Loons, a match that
is gonna be pretty big, pretty big to set a
(08:11):
tone for the second half of the season, one in
which SDFC will be shorthanded. But first, let's get to
the news of the week, which includes San Diego FC,
with a team obviously missing all of its players from
international rotation, taking on a Club America team that just
(08:33):
was a bunch of kids running around in Clube America
jerseys and three nothing. The final, SDFC dominates Clube America,
and the money cases and all of the credit card
statements flow in, and I'm sure the transfer goes over
to Clube America of their share and gentlemen, I think
(08:54):
everybody was happy on the front office side. Nobody got hurt.
So on a soccer op side. I think everyone's happy.
Should the fans have been happy with this match? You know, hey,
if you were entertained, then I guess that's enough. Alex,
your thoughts first off on this this exhibition that we
(09:17):
call friendly in the sport of soccer.
Speaker 5 (09:21):
Yeah, like you said, no injuries for either side, so
that's a really good, good start there.
Speaker 7 (09:28):
But yeah, it's it's a friendly.
Speaker 5 (09:31):
Uh, you don't really expect the the starters in for
either either side, and you know, for for us, it
was really a chance to see some of the younger players,
some of the players that we haven't seen yet. And
from everything I heard, because you can, I can't watch.
(09:52):
It was not on Apple TV, it wasn't on local
and any local station. I heard some really good things
about my dua in in the center back position.
Speaker 7 (10:02):
That was really good to hear.
Speaker 5 (10:05):
Uh Milan and Laski with the brace, I understand it
was against some children on the field, but still really
good to see.
Speaker 7 (10:14):
And Thomas Snell.
Speaker 5 (10:17):
Capped it off with the free kick goal, which amazing,
like number one, you know, that's amazing because you've still
got to get it over the line and into the goal.
Speaker 7 (10:28):
But again against children, Uh so.
Speaker 5 (10:31):
Uh still there, there's there's still plenty of positives here.
Speaker 7 (10:36):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (10:36):
And going back to the Mount No Doua situation. Uh,
it's good that he got his start at center back.
Maybe that's going to be his future role there with
this club since the middle midfield is a little bit
crowded and I think we have three guys that are
have it locked up in possibly four. So yeah, if
(11:01):
Duo wants to see some minutes with this club, it's
probably going to be in center back, and with Patty
McNair having an injury, we might see him a lot
more him and possibly Ian Pilcher. So that's really good
that they gave those guys some minutes.
Speaker 1 (11:20):
You know, Tony, I hate to be cynical, you know.
And I like how Alex is finding the positives out
of it, and we're going to continue to talk about
the positives out of this match. But just interacting with
this match, I couldn't help but feel like it's kind
of a bait and switch. Come see the Great Glube
of America. No, come see fifteen year olds like running
(11:42):
around and listen the we don't have a nickname yet.
I was just getting the cron those Coromados. They've got
eighteen year olds and seventeen year olds running around on
the wings and running around on the back line. So
it's it's not like, uh, you know, it's only one side.
(12:05):
But I did feel like there were a lot of
people that paid a lot of money to come see
Club America specifically, that saw anything but and as a result,
it's this lovely refresh in the middle of the season
for San Diego FC, a chance for players who never
played to get a chance to go out there and
stretch their legs and run around. But from anything outside
(12:27):
of a spectacle standpoint, you know, what are you really
gonna say about facing off against a team you know,
Saponin less can be said as a stand della people, Okay,
but you know, I don't have to believe it that
just because you're wearing the shirts, you're on the team.
Speaker 4 (12:49):
I mean, that's that's kind of what it is in soccer. Unfortunately,
like I can't, I can't really, you know, say that.
I was all too shocked or disappointed, Like everybody knew
what they were going into. I don't think, you know,
going into this, everybody thought, well, this is the chance
to really see just you know, Henri Martin, and and
and everybody who's lifted up to the trophy, every player.
(13:12):
I believe that was highlighted in the promo, whether it
was Goloy, Martin, Chokey, they just weren't there, like they
just no, they don't expect them to be there.
Speaker 3 (13:25):
But at the end of the day, like it's a
it is a cash grab.
Speaker 4 (13:28):
But I'll still say with the cynic mind that I also,
unfortunately in a lot of ways, have sometimes I'll be
with Alex in this one. I think it was sending
one of sending these biggest nights UH. And I say
that because one, it is the inaugural season, this is
the first Mexican UH challenge that they face.
Speaker 1 (13:49):
UH.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
Even if it's on paper. There was a lot of
healing happening.
Speaker 4 (13:54):
Out just outside and you know, just within the stadium.
Speaker 3 (13:57):
Were talking about.
Speaker 4 (13:58):
Supporters and just in general, and it felt like, all right, guys, like,
let's kick our beat up a.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
Little bit and enjoy what we have.
Speaker 4 (14:07):
Enjoy Sandy UFC going through the motions, Hey, let's see
what Mamudua has. Hey, let's see what themas Ankle has,
which I honestly was not impressed with Tomas Angekle in
the run of play is absolutely atrocious right now. He
cannot find himself as a number nine, and that great,
great free kick is what saved an abysmal night. And
I think he also agrees because in the postmatch press
(14:29):
conference he was very critical of himself. He looked very
down and you would look at him and be like,
whoa dude like you think? To you, I said, it
looks like he scored a great free kick in a
five to one loss. But maybe you want to see
that from your striker, right somebody who is aware that, hey,
it's not happening.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
There was three chances.
Speaker 4 (14:50):
One of them was ahead or one of them was
a sitter that should have been on frame at least,
and the other one I could have done better. That's
just a player who knows that they need to keep working.
And so I don't know if you guys take that
as a positive or not, but the Monster kid, I think,
just leads a little bit more to be desired on
the run.
Speaker 3 (15:07):
Of play, just even before the Semitica game.
Speaker 1 (15:13):
Well, that draws me to the other guy up top, Milanilofsky,
because he doesn't just score two goals, he scores two bangers.
The second was you know, goal of the week material.
Speaker 8 (15:26):
All the kid does is score goals.
Speaker 3 (15:28):
Now again, I.
Speaker 1 (15:30):
Shall say, scoring against sixteen year olds, scoring against fifteen
year olds, scoring against USL championship level sides. We've already
known that Milanilofsky can do this, that he can lead
leagues and goals in those situations. The question is can
he do it against the best in MLS And right
(15:54):
now with Chookey down, guys, I feel like the answer
has to be, let's find out, you know, and get
him into the lineup and get away from the super sub.
Let him go ahead and play next to presumably in
Vartsen and Dryer and see what happens up top while
Choky heels agreed, disagree, Tony go ahead and start it.
Speaker 4 (16:17):
Yeah, I think he definitely has earned his keep, for say,
and and it'd be almost a waste to not utilize
as much as you can of me Laninowski if he
is producing, and you need to have that backup for
if Invarsen does go down once again and in the
pecking order of strikers in that attacking locker room, Uloski
(16:39):
cemented ahead of the massankle in my mind. If it
comes down to it and you need somebody out there
to go into that nine role in position, I'm throwing
Milaniloski in there. I can't trust Ankle outside of maybe
potentially having a quicker run and maybe assisting. But when
it comes to needing a goal, you throw Iloski in there,
a great little back. He'll there by Lawfelsend as well,
who can play in the midfield. That's somebody else who's
(17:00):
gonna be featured in another position as well. So it's
some good stuff, some good linkage. What I like about
Ilowski's play is that he's getting it done, regardless of
who he's playing next to. Is he playing next to Drer,
He's getting it done, He's playing next to Bruceth, He's
getting it done. He's getting in these spots and the
ball is going across the line, and that's.
Speaker 3 (17:20):
What you pay a striker to do.
Speaker 4 (17:21):
So I think he wants to stay too, and you
can hear in his postmatch pressers as well, and I
hope that that's negotiations going in a positive way.
Speaker 5 (17:33):
Yeah, he deserves the opportunity, and you know, why not
give it, you know, give him this chance right now?
Speaker 7 (17:42):
Yeah, every time touches the pitch, he scores.
Speaker 5 (17:45):
So but I have to think about, you know, what
are they going to try to do for the next
upcoming games. Are they going to keep starting mating with
in vart uh you know, back on or are they
going to keep in barts in on the bench. I
(18:07):
think they have plenty of options here to mix match
and you know, give the opposing team some good looks here.
So it's gonna be a tough decision of whether to
start Alasky or do you still want him coming off
the bench and coming in as a super sub late
in the game. He as you pointed out last week,
(18:28):
Tony like he he does this pretty well. And you know,
why not wear down those those teams that you know
have have a little bit of tired legs in the
in the back line and just bring Alaski out there.
But yeah, I think now with with two key out bars,
that's some options he's going to really mix mix a
(18:51):
match and and and give these teams some different looks.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
Well, I'll put it this way very simply and bat
the ball back across to you guys. I feel like
from a front office tyler Heaps Varaz sitting in a
conference room whiteboard, moving pieces up and down. They would
love to see Invartsen start this match, complete his return
back to the lineup, as he's gone from fifteen to
(19:16):
thirty minutes now. He could start and play sixty minutes
for SDFC for Los Carmados this week. But I'm gonna
tell you, I think they'll have a better chance of
drawing a result out of Minnesota if they start a
low Ski because I think he just has a better
chance of scoring Saturday or tomorrow, pardon me, than Ingvartsen does.
(19:43):
I just he's got a nose for the goal. He's
showing it and it keeps happening, and I'd rather extend
him and give him a chance to score goal for
SDFC and in such an important road match as well.
So that's where my chip goes.
Speaker 4 (20:01):
And I think that with Iloski too, it's the perfect
player that you want for this project too. Right you
sent Iloski because there was a partnership and this was
very early on in negotiations. Right first sever signing for Sandi,
UFC goes on loan to Orange County. Sc our relationship
is built there. Orange County has a player Lanilowski. You
(20:24):
know there's a trajectory there. Aieloski then goes to FC norseland,
interestingly enough, just kind of knowing he's going to come
back to SANTIFC at some point in some form, comes
back in the loan. But the good thing about Iloski
is that he speaks US soccer. He speaks what is
necessary to be successful in MLS as a striker.
Speaker 3 (20:43):
So he's been built up to this. He goes over
to FC norseland and just gets a little bit of
that Right to Dream DNA and look at what he's
doing with it.
Speaker 4 (20:52):
So the only argument that I would say against keeping
him here is that if he's not ready and there's
another level to be unlocked by sending him back to
Norland and learning a little bit more about the style.
Speaker 3 (21:03):
Okay, that's a long term thing.
Speaker 4 (21:06):
What's the plan for even then, because you're still gonna
need somebody here in San Diego? Who And then is
that now the pecking order? Because the pecking order has
been established with Right to Dream? Is San Diego f
C the flagship of it? Are you gonna pipe players
from Europe into San Diego? Or is it going to
be the other way around, because there is going to
be a flow part of the pun that's going to establish. No, no, no,
(21:29):
the right to dream pathway is SDFC, then to Europe,
then potentially to Ajax, then potentially to Napoli and potentially
to Europe. So interesting kind of things is to keep
a tab on for later as this team grows.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
All right, let's keep things rolling, guys. And this is
being recorded on Thursday, June twelfth for a Saturday match
coming up in Minnesota. But earlier today, Tony, you had
the chance to be out Singing Hills, opportunity to be
out at SDFC training.
Speaker 7 (22:04):
What did you bring back?
Speaker 1 (22:06):
You, you know, gatherer, harvester of content. What did you
bring back for the table for your commaniacs to feast upon?
Speaker 3 (22:16):
It's uh, it's high season.
Speaker 4 (22:17):
So we sent the scout out, the young abe Sebeta
out there in Singing Hills, part of the San die
Fs Sane put the football crew. Uh so with that
he got some good sound here from head coach Mike
about us ahead of the Minnesota match.
Speaker 9 (22:32):
First it looks like, uh, it's not like this if
you're one, but we we just need to see how
it progresses. Progressing faster than we had originally anticipated, so
hopefully he'll be back sooner rather than later.
Speaker 3 (22:47):
And then irving And that was about Patty McNair.
Speaker 9 (22:50):
That is Uh, he's back on the grass working with
the ball already, So that's a really good first step.
Speaker 10 (22:56):
Uh.
Speaker 9 (22:56):
Unfortunately, we have after this game, we have this CBA break,
right mandatory break, So that might delay a little a
little bit for some of the guys, but that's really
not the most important. The most important is that we
get these guys back and then we get them back
in a solid place where they can they can finished
second half of the seasons from.
Speaker 6 (23:15):
And so they came out a little bit early in the.
Speaker 11 (23:17):
Game, and he has a hamstring injury.
Speaker 9 (23:22):
So it's really unfortunate for him because he actually showed
a couple of really really interesting moments in the limited
time that he got.
Speaker 11 (23:32):
But uh, he'll be out for he'll be out for
a little bit.
Speaker 9 (23:35):
Uh again, nothing significant, but it will be moderated at least.
Speaker 1 (23:39):
Can you have a.
Speaker 6 (23:39):
Young player like that, how do you help with their
trying to get back from injury and keep them on
the right track.
Speaker 9 (23:45):
Yeah, it's our responsibility and everybody in the buildings responsibility to.
Speaker 11 (23:49):
Make sure that we're having interactions with him.
Speaker 9 (23:52):
Being injured is always a bit of a lonely place,
and we have to remember these guys that are human
beings first and almost they want to be playing football,
They want to feel a part of the group, So
just as much interaction with him as possible. And then
our medical staff is is top, and our perform our
human performance staff is top in terms of creating individualized
plan to make sure that that recovery is optimized as
much as possible.
Speaker 6 (24:12):
And here at the halfway point of the season, where
do you think the team needs to grow the most?
I know you always emphasize the growth mindset, What do you.
Speaker 5 (24:19):
What do you think?
Speaker 9 (24:22):
I think it's about establishing consistency and what we're going
to do, because I think we've shown we've touched some
pretty good highs so far as a team in terms
of performances, especially the last the last two or three
performances have been quite complete, full games. Those were the
first ones that we really hit because I think early
on in the season I talked about having tremendous moments
within a game, like maybe playing the top first half
(24:44):
a top second half. You know, seventy minutes, we put
together two ninety minute performances that I think all of
us can be really happy with.
Speaker 11 (24:53):
And now how do you do that?
Speaker 9 (24:55):
You know, not over the course of two games, but
over the course of the next seventeen, eighteen, nineteen twenty games.
If we do that show consistency, we'll be in a
good spot.
Speaker 1 (25:05):
Speaking of that, what do you see as the team's
biggest challenge.
Speaker 9 (25:08):
Let's see, Well, I mean, first and foremost, just to
keep everything. We got to keep our feet on the
ground all the time. Like when things are not going
well in the short term, you got to keep your composure,
keep to your convictions, make sure.
Speaker 11 (25:24):
That you're working as hard as possible to turn that around.
Speaker 9 (25:26):
But when things are quote unquote in a good moment,
you got to make sure that you understand that the
performances yesterday only serve us today and tomorrow if we
stay with the same amount of focus, intensity, keep going
with equality. So I would say, making sure our feet
stay on the ground, making sure that we're not getting
too high too low.
Speaker 11 (25:45):
And part of that is just.
Speaker 9 (25:46):
Remembering that our first ultimate goal was to be fighting
for playoffs in the first so not to start creating expectations.
Speaker 11 (25:54):
That don't help you right now in the moment. And
so with a lot of the players out on international duty.
Speaker 10 (26:00):
And someone with injury, what are you looking for from
the players that you have here?
Speaker 9 (26:04):
O course, Yeah, so just seeing we've got to put
a lot of attention into a smaller group of players
last two weeks. So a big thing for us has
been how do we make our squad bigger and make
your squad bigger by making sure you have more players
who can contribute. And I think it'll be interesting to see.
The big challenge and opportunity we have now is we'll
(26:26):
have three or four international guys coming back. How are
they a wile to integrate coming off of a flight yesterday,
landing in Minnesota yesterday, training on their own today, and
then having one session as a team preparing for this game.
And I think the most important thing is that we
just stick to our principles and that we keep things
as simple and clear as possible.
Speaker 6 (26:49):
And I know every team in the MLS has to
deal with that, But do you do you find that's
the problem with the schedule. You know, some of these
international players just training by themselves.
Speaker 9 (26:59):
It was the right thing to do because all of
them are coming from Europe. So for them to a
fly to San Diego, you know, arrived yesterday, they would
have arrived at you know, eleven thirty midnight or eleven
thirty pm last yesterday or midnight this morning and then
get back on the flight the next day would have
been the.
Speaker 11 (27:18):
Wrong thing to them.
Speaker 9 (27:19):
So we're also in a unique there's probably a couple
of clubs in our unique circumstances too, And this international
break comes off of follows is followed up by an
away game where the distance is pretty big, but no
complaints because it is what it is, and our job
is to make sure that we put a players in
the best position to be able to handle it.
Speaker 3 (27:45):
Perfect. I think your music Craig on there, yep, it's
all good.
Speaker 1 (27:49):
Sorry, great stuff from head coach mikey varis here on
Cromaniacs and Guys. He brings up something that I think
is a really interesting discussion topic, you know, somewhat transitioning
or as transitioned toward looking ahead to this Minnesota United match,
which is something I saw in the waves last match
as well, bringing players back from international duty asking them
(28:11):
to jump back into the lineup. Asking them to jump
back into the flow. They haven't been training with their mates,
they have been hearing a different coaches here, they've been
thinking about a different system. Can you expect the best
out of a Drier, etc. Coming back from international duty
as opposed to sticking with a younger, less rated player,
(28:36):
but somebody who has been an integral part of training
over the course of the last couple of weeks.
Speaker 7 (28:42):
Alex, what do you think? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (28:45):
I think I saw Dryer play a full ninety on Tuesday,
and then a well Car on Saturday played a full
ninety minutes, and yeah, these guys played with their teams
and now with the flight and everything, and the good
(29:05):
thing is Yeah, I agree with Mikey with them meeting
up with the players in Minnesota, because you're just going
back and forth. So I don't I don't think that's
really needed. If they get some training sessions on their own,
I think that's really helpful. But I don't know if
we're if we're are we going to see these guys
(29:27):
for just thirty minutes?
Speaker 7 (29:28):
Are they going to come off the bench and.
Speaker 5 (29:33):
You know, or are they going to start and we're
only going to see them for maybe thirty to sixty minutes.
It's I think Mikey Virus is going to have to
pick and choose his spots here of when to start
these guys. When when are these guys going to play
and really and get the most out of these guys
who who who played some very competitive games someone at.
Speaker 7 (29:57):
VLA car actually did play you know, some uh competitive
pro famis.
Speaker 5 (30:02):
But yeah, yeah they yeah, you know they were out
there with their teams and and now coming back, I
kind of want to see what what the what Mikey
has plans.
Speaker 1 (30:12):
Yeah, I'll just put it this way, Tony. I mean
right there, I would start a low ski over Valacari.
I would let Valakari, if you need him, come in
off the bench on a game like this, and I'd
feel a lot more comfortable about the flow of SDFC
going into a very difficult place to play, uh with
(30:33):
a low ski than I would with Vollacari coming off
a plane and today dribbling a ball back and forth
between himself and Dryer on some field in Saint Paul.
Speaker 4 (30:45):
Yeah, and looking at it, I do believe Dryers maybe
have scored or assisted in one of those And and
that's what you want from from a player right to
keep that consistency, going to keep that muscle going. And
and yeah, he speaks and and hears from different perspectives,
different coaches, but he's still getting it done. And I
think for an attacking player, that's definitely something that's incredibly
good and just.
Speaker 3 (31:05):
A well oiled machine is what it is. Right.
Speaker 4 (31:08):
Unfortunately, the other side, you get chances with Patty McNair
who goes down. I had injury. I believe it was
growing injury, and I think that's happened earlier in the year.
There was a game, I believe Colorado away where he
did seem to tweak something in that same area. So
I think it might be a lingering issue that he's
(31:29):
been working with but just got exacerbated.
Speaker 3 (31:32):
But even then, Sandy Bofi's roster still very thin.
Speaker 4 (31:36):
There's no B team, so attention, Like, I don't want
to put red flags out there. You have any said
you heard it went down in the America game after
pulling a hamstring. Didn't look very good out there because
he wasn't looked like a substantial amount of pain.
Speaker 3 (31:52):
But I think you know he's doing the right thing.
Speaker 4 (31:56):
Get anybody into rhythm using him throwing Iloski out there.
He deserves it, might as well, might as well. It's
a bargain. You're wasting money if you're not really at
this point.
Speaker 1 (32:07):
So if if McNair's out, that means Andres Reyes will
be starting right still still m I a film.
Speaker 3 (32:18):
Still somewhere out there. I don't know.
Speaker 1 (32:24):
When Celine Dion sang the song she was thinking about
and somewhere out there. All right, let's hear some more
from SDFC training grounds. Chris McVay is going to be
part of stopping the Loons and he's gonna have to
do it away or Minnesota only has one loss all
(32:46):
year on their home pitch. Here's Chris McVay season.
Speaker 6 (32:50):
If would you grade this team and what do you guys.
Speaker 11 (32:52):
Think you need to go on?
Speaker 8 (32:55):
Uh, that's a good question.
Speaker 12 (32:56):
I mean it's a great team, I think, and I
think the position in the league shows that where we're at.
Obviously there's stuff we really want to improve on. But overall,
like I mean, for our first year together and everyone
new here, we're I think we're playing really well.
Speaker 8 (33:17):
I've said that to a lot of people, Like I.
Speaker 12 (33:18):
Enjoy the way we're playing here as well, it's very fun,
and I think that shows in the games the way
we're playing in controlling games, and obviously something we maybe
want to do better is the games where we control
it to be a little bit more effective and get
into those areas to get a little bit more clear chances.
Speaker 8 (33:37):
Obviously, some some games that comes naturally and some.
Speaker 12 (33:39):
Games we we kind of have to create it a
little bit more. So, I think that's something we've we've
been working on.
Speaker 6 (33:45):
And is that the same as an individual just kind
of want to help in that area or is there
something you've been working on.
Speaker 12 (33:51):
No, I think it's like as a team collectively, like
how we're making the runs and where we're putting the
ball in the dangerous areas to make it more difficult
for them to defend against it. And yeah, I mean
we've been working on it a lot in training and
hopefully that will show when the game's coming up. The
overall defense for the team has been making a lot
of great strides lately. So what do you think the key?
Speaker 11 (34:11):
It's the season?
Speaker 12 (34:14):
Yeah, I mean that's also something we've been working on
from day one. How we defend together. You know, it's
a collective thing as well a lot of times people
think it's just you know, maybe the defenders, but it's
a it's a team effort, and I think, you know,
we've been taking big steps in all of the position,
but especially like up in the start of the press
and you know, if we can win the ball up there,
(34:36):
then that keeps them from from coming closer to argll.
So it's yeah, I think that's been been a big thing.
And then us as a defensive line, you know, to
work together and you know, keep the same line and
kind of understand where everyone is.
Speaker 8 (34:49):
And I think that's been also growing.
Speaker 12 (34:50):
The more you get to know each other, you start
to learn how everyone plays. And yeah, I think.
Speaker 8 (34:56):
It's been good.
Speaker 10 (34:57):
And get snub dragging having like a top five a
tenance record the whole league. How much is like home
field meant to you and the whole.
Speaker 8 (35:03):
Yeah, I mean it's been amazing.
Speaker 12 (35:05):
I didn't know how how many people are going to
come in the beginning, but I.
Speaker 8 (35:09):
Think the stadium has been amazing.
Speaker 12 (35:11):
The atmosphere has been great, and I've had family come
over from Sweden and stuff, and some friends come over
and everyone says it's been amazing, even up in the stands.
Speaker 8 (35:18):
So yeah, it helps us a lot on the field
and we get a lot of energy from it. And yeah,
it's been been good.
Speaker 6 (35:24):
In complaint, you know, San Diego's gonna be without some
of their important starting midfielders. How do you play with
knowing that some of your starters are going to be
gone while also knowing that, like you know, in the
last week, you guys had midfielders that came on and
played pretty well.
Speaker 12 (35:39):
Yeah, I mean I think that's you are spot on.
Like we saw last week when we played a lot
of guys that maybe haven't gotten that many minutes. How
big of a group we have, and you know how
many good players there are in this team. We've got
a really broad squad, So I think you know, everyone's ready,
And yeah, I'm not. I'm not worried at all for
the guys going to step up and uh and really
(36:01):
show that they deserved a spot as well, you know,
so I'm excited for it.
Speaker 10 (36:04):
Actually, the question like, do you think a lot of
the other players on the team see this moment of
a lot of other guys.
Speaker 3 (36:09):
Out on their national has an opportunity.
Speaker 12 (36:12):
On the team. Yeah, I mean, like if you're not playing,
I mean, especially I plugged for myself as well. If
I'm not playing the moments, you get to play and
show like that's that's a golden opportunity, you know. So
you can see a lot of the guys I thought
did really well the last game against the Globe America,
and yeah, they just got to keep it up and
help the team, and I think they will.
Speaker 1 (36:38):
There's Chris McVeigh maybe coming up with our nickname. Uhh.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
I like that you muted yourself. It was too good
of a name. You were. You were Silence.
Speaker 1 (36:56):
And Mike as it unplugged itself everyone, I'm going to
go back to the good mic. But yeah, the broad
Squad or if they were in East goes the broad
squady broad Squad take the money. And I don't know
if that one's gonna catch, but I did like it.
And here's the discussion topic I'll give you while I
(37:19):
reset my mic. Are you surprised how well San Diego
FC's back line is held up through the first half
of the season, Alex.
Speaker 5 (37:30):
Yes, they weren't really thought of as a good back line,
and I think when we first saw it, we saw McVeigh,
we saw McNair, but then we had negtive to start
Lafel soon and they got a few starts and we
(37:52):
saw what they can do there.
Speaker 7 (37:54):
They're probably the.
Speaker 5 (37:55):
Most experience out of the in the group when it
comes to MLS minutes and then you know, and then
all of a sudden, Bombino shows up, and Oscar over over.
Verhoven shows up too, and and and they've taken over
and they're they're now the full Backs, and it seems
(38:15):
like the full.
Speaker 7 (38:16):
Backs of the future.
Speaker 5 (38:18):
Uh, just just one person's opinion here, but now now
they look great. I think adding Bombino Verhoven they really
have made this backline a lot better than it was.
Speaker 7 (38:33):
And you know.
Speaker 5 (38:36):
Nothing against Lafflson or Negri, but you know, their their
type of style just wasn't matching to what Mikey Virus
was wanted out of that group. And now now it
seems like a very legit group. It's holding up pretty
nicely and it you know, it's helping. Uh, Dosanto's very
(38:57):
well and because he's the one on getting the the
clean sheets at the end of the day. But it's
all due part of the of the back line here.
Speaker 4 (39:07):
Yeah, no, I mean talk about Dos Santos right, like
those clean sheets are for a reason is because of
that defensive line created and I think it's safe to say, like, look,
laffelssend negative, you lost your spot, Like that's that's it.
Like they were outplayed for right now, especially for the
style that Mike's looking for. And in the America game,
(39:28):
actually Verdhovin does an amazing run and cross uh to
give that assistant Milanielowski And so those are the type
of things that you're going to be looking forward to
with him. And those are the type of things too
that while Willie Kumaldo may be a speedster, may be
able to get back and up and down the field,
Rayhman has a touch about him. He has a just
(39:50):
a good trajectory ahead of him.
Speaker 3 (39:52):
So let's keep an eye on that.
Speaker 4 (39:54):
But this back line also has somebody that's surprised a
lot of people, and that's Chris mcvain himself. Chris Pickvy
is getting it done and I think is in the running.
I would feel for co captain, one of the many
co captains of this team because he's getting it done
with the performance. If he has a youngster on his
on his right side that he needs to take care of,
you'll see him float over to the right as a
(40:16):
center back and help.
Speaker 3 (40:17):
Out a little bit more on the right hand side and.
Speaker 4 (40:19):
Do those difficult runs. I remember he was catching up
with uh.
Speaker 3 (40:25):
He was it was he didn't play in the first game.
Speaker 4 (40:30):
He was the winger for La Galaxy Passlin Pacelin, pain
Sell sorry pain Sell, uh, and so he was keeping
up with him. That's a speedy, speedy attacker. And he
has a center back was staying on pace and defending there.
And he's getting it done with goals too. So you
know this This back line is surprising. They had a
(40:50):
lot of questions, but I think the questions are being answered.
I don't think we we we can have any more
expectations of what's been going on out there. Greig, do
you think this defense is doing good?
Speaker 3 (41:01):
As good as they could be? Better?
Speaker 1 (41:03):
Better? I really think better. I thought that they would
be giving up at least a half goal more per
game than they are. So high marks all the way around,
young players being integrated, sometimes eighteen year olds on both wings.
Are you kidding me? Like you're seeing that that's nothing
(41:24):
but promising that you're succeeding already and you've gotten a
chance to improve. Now let's wrap up our training grounds.
Sound with the flavor of the week. It looks ski.
Let's hear from Milan and see what he has to say.
And I imagine it's something along the lines of, I
(41:44):
like scoring goals, please let me continue that extra pass.
Speaker 10 (41:49):
What's the key sort of balancing making that extra pass
walls shot?
Speaker 13 (41:56):
Yeah, I think it's just reading the game, reading the situation,
uh where you are also on the on the pitch,
you know. I agree. I think you have to make
the right decision, and I try to always make the
best decision for the team, and a lot of times
that's using someone to kind of, you know, help yourself
get off a shot, but also uh yeah, making the
(42:17):
extra pass when there's the space and the time too.
Speaker 8 (42:19):
So I completely agree.
Speaker 13 (42:20):
I think, uh, you know, it's our job as attacking
players not just to score, but to help our teammates
also to set each other up.
Speaker 6 (42:28):
I just speak a little bit about Minnesota, what challenges
they might provide. I know you haven't been in the
MLS for long, but they're you know, they're there was
one of the top teams along.
Speaker 13 (42:35):
I think, yeah, for sure, they're a really good team.
Uh you know, they want to defend deep and defend low,
So for us, the challenges are going to be to
break that down and to uh to try and get
the first goal. And but of course we'll keep pushing
and keep pressing on like how we do, and to
create tempo in the game. I think that's gonna be
really important for us. But yeah, I definitely think they're
a great team and really organized.
Speaker 8 (42:56):
So it's gonna be tough, but we uh you know.
Speaker 13 (42:59):
We're very confident that will come in with a good
game plan and be able to implement our style.
Speaker 6 (43:04):
Do you enjoy playing teams like that that want to
sit back and just let the game come to them
or would you prefer something where we're both young?
Speaker 13 (43:13):
I mean, it's every game brings different challenges. I think
for me, I love the game to be open, but
also I think, uh, you know, every game brings a
different challenge, and even open games, maybe it's not so
easy to create chances. But in a game like this,
we know we're gonna have a lot of the ball,
so that's always nice for a team like us. We
want to have the ball and beyond it. So, uh,
(43:34):
every game is different challenges, but uh, yeah, I think
we'll be fine.
Speaker 10 (43:39):
Ask Christmas, But do you think with a lot of
the starters out on international duty, for you and other players,
see this is an opportunity.
Speaker 13 (43:47):
Of course, yeah, I mean anyone who's not playing a
ton of minutes, they want to show themselves. As much
as this is a team sport and one hundred percent is,
it's also.
Speaker 8 (43:58):
A we're all professional.
Speaker 13 (43:59):
We're all competing to to play and to get a
contract or you know, show that we belong on the field.
So any chance that you can step on the field
it's friendly or you know, real matches like these coming up,
it's a big opportunity for for everyone to show themselves
a bit more.
Speaker 6 (44:14):
Talk about getting a contract, Is that still something that's
on your mind right now?
Speaker 3 (44:18):
Are you completely fosus?
Speaker 2 (44:21):
Uh?
Speaker 13 (44:21):
Yeah, I'm focused on on the game coming up on Saturday.
All that stuff I think will take care of himself,
you know. For me, of course, on my time here
could be up pretty quickly, so of course it's in
the back of my head, and you know, we'll see
what happens with the staff and you know, in me,
but right now it's just focused on Saturday and trying
to help the team as much as I can.
Speaker 1 (44:44):
Even more reason to play him, isn't it tell me?
Speaker 4 (44:47):
Yeah, like he he wants to put he already has
the highlight reel and he's telling you how much he
enjoys just being used however he wants. See he was
very happy the other day when he gets put him
too midfield, because that's Mikey Vadas trusting him of, Like yeah,
just go run around like you did your job, go
go for it, Like, let's let's see you what you
can do in this midfield. Let's trust you with the
(45:10):
result and that by having you out of position, you're
not going to be a liability. But you can go
ahead and get more minutes, get in there. See where
else I can use you, baby, potentially in the future.
So I Meloski's doing everything right to warrant staying. And
again I think that's the only reason why you would say, hey,
send him back. He needs to get better under right
to dream Style FC norseland style, but for right now,
(45:34):
for MLS, for San Diego FC's version of Style of
Play's incredible utility player right now.
Speaker 5 (45:46):
I mean, yeah, I completely agree, and yeah, I hope
he gets his chances coming up here. And he seems
like a really cool dude. He has that San Diego
uh type of person, laid back to yeah, very loose
with everything. Yeah, yeah, what not.
Speaker 7 (46:09):
To like about Milan and Aloski.
Speaker 5 (46:11):
He seems like a great guy, and yeah, I hope
he gets his chances of Yeah, I would. I keep
I keep saying, I keep thinking about the League's Cup.
Eventually it's going to happen, and eventually he's going to
get it starts. Eventually we're going to see a lot
more playing time for Alaski and Anhalen and everybody else
(46:33):
may possibly raise if he shows up, and yeah, if if,
if he comes back. So yeah, I think his time
will come, and I hope he makes the most of it.
Speaker 3 (46:47):
All right.
Speaker 1 (46:48):
As we transition away from what happened to what's going
to happen, A note that Saturday five point thirty at
al Smith Mira mar Way, you can find the all
Supporters watch party. The Union is there. All seven supporter
(47:09):
groups are being invited to the same spot. There's going
to be some bond of practice during the match as well.
But very happy as you mentioned it Tony earlier in
the broadcast, you know, moments of healing over the course
of the last couple of weeks, I think and I
loved to see this joint announcement for everyone to be
(47:29):
together on Saturday, and I'm certainly hoping to be out
there as well and looking forward to this match.
Speaker 4 (47:38):
Yeah, I do really like that, you know, the conversations
that have been had within the club with themselves, with
the supporter groups, with supporter groups themselves. I think that's
what I meant with that being one of the biggest
knights with America, there was a moment where it was
a common enemy, and I'll be honest, there were I'm
very happy to see some people that I know are
(47:59):
Medica fans not in the yellow but I guess it
was called for a blue out over for the stadium,
but in the section, and you know, everybody came together
and you can tell that people missed each other, and
there was like yep, you know, at the end of
the day, we're all brothers, we're all sisters here and
let's all go ahead and cheer for San Diego FC.
Speaker 3 (48:19):
And that's that's good to see.
Speaker 4 (48:20):
Like I'm a sap for those kind of things, like
just get it together, guys, because you.
Speaker 3 (48:25):
Are representing San Diego.
Speaker 4 (48:27):
And I'm glad that I think this is exactly what
is what that is moving forward, because crazy enough, there's
real legitimate stuff happening around Snapdragon Stadium and just in
this around the sports I'll say specifically to that, you
know a lot of these supporter groups and clubs aligne
(48:47):
as well.
Speaker 1 (48:48):
You know. And the last thing I wanted to say
on that as we transition is Monday mornings, I'm getting
the chance to be back on with Ben and Woods
on ninety seven to three the Fan and to talk
not only padres but to talk STFC. They have been
kind enough to welcome me back. I used to do
a weekly hit for them on Fridays. Now I'm doing
a weekly hit for them on Mondays. But like, the
(49:11):
first SDFC related topic they brought up was to show
like cell phone cam footage of a fight in the
stands between some Club America fans and somebody SDFC, and
to then lump it in and go, well, look at
this pattern of violent conduct and SDFC matches, and boy,
(49:34):
you don't want to have that as your reputation, as
it's a dangerous place to go. And I had to
immediately say to them the same thing I would say
to our audience, which was like, guys, there were probably
twice as many fights at the Padres Dodgers game, Like yep,
twice as many, three times as many two dudes throwing
(49:54):
down after four beers in section twoh eight or whatever.
Do not lump the supporter groups in with that. Don't
lump quote unquote soccer culture in with that, because I
need to invite you to go to a football game
in Vegas, or to a basketball game in Philly, or
(50:18):
to any game in Kansas City, or to any game
in Los Angeles of any kind, or San Francisco or
any other major metropolitan area. If you put thirty thousand
people in an area, five of them are going to fight.
It's why they hire security, Okay, it's why those security
(50:42):
companies have longstanding business models that they've been able to
execute upon for years upon decades. So just don't put
sg's in your mouth, or put really soccer in your mouth.
In my opinion, when you talk about, oh, there was
a fight at the game, well there's a fight at
every game. Don't turn it into a pattern. There's too
(51:05):
much of that of the media taking an isolated incident
and calling it a pattern.
Speaker 3 (51:09):
And that's a broad comment.
Speaker 1 (51:12):
So guys. With that, let's turn it over. Let's let's
finish with a preview. Here. We've got Minnesota United. This
is a big match, and Alex, as our resident MLS
expert of amongst our three, I invite.
Speaker 7 (51:26):
You to lead the way.
Speaker 1 (51:27):
There's two things I see that are very interesting on
our on our call sheet here it says Minnesota United
FC technically not in Minnesota, uh and also youngest coach
in the league. So tell me a little bit more
about the loss.
Speaker 5 (51:42):
Of course, Yeah, let's learn about a new Minnesota United
FC team. Yes, they are not technically in Minnesota. Technically,
since that's one of the places I've been to. They're
technically in Saint Paul. So I don't know why they
chose the name Minnesota United FC. I would have preferred
(52:03):
Twin City United or Twin City FC. Maybe I think
that would have been a better name. But this is
actually a pretty young team. They were founded in twenty fifteen,
they started playing in twenty seventeen, and I actually got
to see Minnesota United in their first season. And I
(52:24):
think I'm going to save that story for our San
Jose preview because that is still dubbed as one of
the greatest matches in Avayah history in San Jose. So
I'm going to save that one for later. But going
into the youngest coach in the league, Eric Ramsey. He
(52:45):
is thirty three years old and he is coming from
the UK England and he came up through the Chelsea
system as a coach and he later became a coach
for Manchies United and he won. He was there for
the e FL Cup win in twenty twenty three with
(53:08):
Eric ten Huk and yeah he was he. I guess
he's considered as one of like the rising stars, one
of the young uh in in coach in coaching in
in the UK, and he has a lot of experience
working with some very top you know managers in the
(53:30):
game and now. And it was very interesting to hear
when when the announcement happened last year that he was
coming to MLS and that was very interesting that that
was very interesting to me to hear, like why MLS?
Why why Minnesota United? And for him and I think
(53:50):
he makes a good point.
Speaker 1 (53:52):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (53:53):
He gave an interview with the BBC this year that said, hey,
you know the reality is in the championship you might
last a season or two and in MLS you might
last longer. And he actually said that I need the
room to grow, and I need the room to if
I make a mistake. I think there are teams here
(54:14):
in the United States that would give me that leeway
and give me those chances. And he found that that
opportunity with Minnesota United and and ever since then, I mean,
the Minnesota in the United is actually taken off as
a very good team. I mean, they they finished, they
(54:37):
they've made it to the to the quarterfinals last year
in the playoffs, and and that was the first time
they made it that high and they had the second
highest point with fifty two points in their in their history.
So he he's already made of impact with Minnesota and
(54:59):
now as we look at them, they're right behind Sandy
UFC in third place. So yeah, his impact is has
been felt in Minnesota and his But the difference here
is the style of play is very different. Uh, it
is a completely different style of play compared to SANDYOFC.
(55:22):
I mean, they're they're almost on the complete opposite end. Meanwhile,
you know, CENIOFC loves possession, they love having the ball,
they love you know, passing it around. Uh, Minnesota United doesn't,
but they still find success with the way that they
play and and I think that's kind of a dangerous
(55:43):
threat for Sandy UFC. They can make those key passes,
they make those crosses into the box. Yeah, Minnesota United
can can in a really shit this game in a hurry,
if if, if they really wanted to, so that that's
gonna be something to look out for when when it
comes to this team when and I think the interesting
(56:09):
part of this upcoming match for both sides, it's gonna
be you know, And I'll leave it for for you
guys to discuss here, Ah, what are we gonna do
when we don't have Luca and Godoy and you know
some of these key players. I know, Dryer might be limited,
(56:32):
Onnie might be limited, Yeah, might be in there. But
on their side, they're they're gonna be out without their keeper,
h Dwayne Slink Sinclair.
Speaker 7 (56:43):
One of their top goal stores.
Speaker 5 (56:45):
And Tony uh Alo was say ye sure, very yeah,
very different, difficult, different doubts. And then uh and Joseph Rosales,
who's who's Who's also in the Gold Cup. I mean
those three are going to be out. They have they
do have some players coming back in from an international play,
(57:07):
but they're also going to be limited. So yeah, what
do you guys think about this? You know how this
team is going to be set up with some players
out due to international play and you know, some injuries,
and what do you think on Minnesota side?
Speaker 1 (57:27):
Well, Tony, the thing that stands out to me is,
you know when you talk about styles make fight, styles
make matches. I feel like Minnesota style is perfectly tailored
to defeat San Diego in that they try to score
without possession, So they're going to be perfectly happy for
SDFC to try and get to sixty five percent possession.
(57:47):
That's not part of their win formula. Their win formulas
to take advantage of three or four mistakes and turn
them into one or two critical chances while locking everything
else down.
Speaker 4 (57:57):
Yeah, there's only one ball, and Minnesota perfectly fine telling
San Diego here, it's all yours. Keep it for I
don't know eighty nine minutes. I only need to win
one zero to take to take this three points away.
And I think this is what was mentioned. I think
episode one of the Chrominex is kind of like.
Speaker 3 (58:14):
What is the foil? Where does the area of growth
for Sandy UFC.
Speaker 4 (58:17):
It's those moments where they have all the time in
the world where they have all the all the space
that they need, even more space that they're used to,
but kwardly creative enough to really go and break down
and try to play differently. If something isn't working one way,
you have to be able to maneuver and adapt, perhaps
away from your style away from this right to dream
(58:40):
SANDYGFC now style of play. Away from that, You're gonna
have to maguiver it. You're gonna have to improve on
some tools. And I know a guy that's been saying that, hey,
I can bounce off of anything, I could work off
with anything, and it's been getting it done.
Speaker 3 (58:56):
And again that's Melaninowski.
Speaker 5 (59:00):
Oh yeah, he he might be the key for this match.
And it just it all depends on when are you
going to employ him?
Speaker 7 (59:08):
When when are you going to send him out there?
Speaker 5 (59:09):
Are going to start him and try to get some
some goals and some shots early in this game, or
are you going to wait until you know this is
a you know, nil nol match and we really need
to score here to try to steal one in Minnesota
or Saint Paul because yeah, he I mean, he can
(59:30):
be the difference maker.
Speaker 7 (59:31):
In this match.
Speaker 5 (59:32):
And and just to contrast UH, the Minnesota compared to
other teams we've seen, like the Austin's, like the Saint Louis,
you know, they they don't have the scoring ability that
Minnesota does. They they are up there with right right
with us. They have scored twenty four goals this season.
(59:55):
SANDUEFC has scored twenty nine goals this s season. And
they they yeah like they like they will let you
have the ball, but they are very capable of scoring too,
So that I think this is this might be I hope,
I hope it is. Everything we talk about it and
and the way we talk about it, This might be
(01:00:18):
one of my favorite matches that I've you know, I've
been waiting for UH to watch. I think this one
and Vancouver we we have some we we have two
matches that are coming up that will really tell us
a lot about this team and end the step. And
because we're going to see some players out, I understand,
but these are really great opportunities, opportunities to really rise
(01:00:42):
up in the in the ranks here in the Western Conference.
Speaker 1 (01:00:47):
Well, I'm going to put it this way, I'm going
to really be paying attention to the first thirty minutes
of this match, because I think STFC coming out and
getting a goal in minutes, minute fifteen, minute twenty five,
getting a goal in the first half hour is going
to take the Loans out of their comfort zone. It's
(01:01:08):
gonna take the crowd out of their comfort zone. It's
gonna give SDFC a chance to turn that possession into
something that works against Minnesota United FC, as opposed to
something that they are absorbing like a pain sponge getting
ready to squeeze out a goal on the other end.
So this is why the drama I keep beating, you know,
(01:01:30):
like Adrian up in the supporters section, is go ahead
and let Eloski start this game, because I don't want
to wait to minute sixty one and figure it out
from there. I want to set the pace in the
first thirty minutes, enforce Minnesota to turn what they are
intending to do. Zero zero through thirty is perfect for them,
(01:01:52):
Zero zero through thirty is not great for SDFC trying
to secure a critical road result. And yeah, these next
two matches, you know, which are spaced out by a
couple of weeks almost but uh at Minnesota at Vancouver.
Speaker 3 (01:02:09):
It's going to tell you a lot.
Speaker 1 (01:02:10):
It's interesting Padres and SDFC playing these challenge matches in June.
Last thing I have to say it for somebody in
Minnesota who's listening that's been screaming at the podcast. Saint
Paul is in Minnesota. The state of Minnesota. Minneapolis is
what you're thinking of, Minneapolis, Saint Paul. The Twin cities
(01:02:31):
nifcated by a river. But but they're both in Minnesota.
Speaker 7 (01:02:35):
Yeah, they're right, you're right, that's right.
Speaker 1 (01:02:37):
So somebody in Saint Paul was like screaming, bloody murder.
But I would just say, hot dish on us. Anyone
who is upset, please enjoy, you know, secure it at
San Diego. Put the football, look for the coupon for
a free hot dish at your local participating restaurant, and
that little of.
Speaker 3 (01:02:57):
The copro and get free stuff too.
Speaker 7 (01:03:05):
All right.
Speaker 5 (01:03:06):
I love the last thing I'll say about Minnesota United
there their social media game is pretty good.
Speaker 7 (01:03:15):
I mean, did you guys see it when.
Speaker 5 (01:03:17):
When Minnesota defeated uh inner Miami the Pink Pony Club,
Oh and then and then uh and then David Beckham
got really upset with that and yes and said like,
come on, have a little class here, and uh yeah
you got David Beckham upset. I think you're doing something
right with the social media team.
Speaker 7 (01:03:38):
A little bit.
Speaker 1 (01:03:40):
Salty young social media. That is kind of an MLS.
Speaker 3 (01:03:44):
Thing, isn't it. Yeah? Yeah, so the Pink Phony Club. Wow, yeah, excellent,
excellent stuff there.
Speaker 7 (01:03:52):
Oh there you go. Yeah, that's that's it.
Speaker 5 (01:03:56):
That's the one h ouch pay.
Speaker 1 (01:04:02):
Whenever I trash talk like that, the next three things
I do fall apart. I would like I would never
be able to send that tweet like there's just zero
percent chance the good on you kids, Good on you,
gen z, shameless and always looking for the lowels.
Speaker 3 (01:04:21):
Appreciate you.
Speaker 4 (01:04:23):
Yeah, you were talking about Tani Olose who got a
brace and beats Seattle three to two, the same Seattle
that just beats San Diego FC. So if that means anything,
something I'm discovering MLS is that, you know, it really
is week week to weeks sometimes like there not doesn't
necessarily have to be a pattern of well this it's
his team beat this team, but they lost to this team,
(01:04:44):
which means this team will like, no, it's just any
given Sunday almost mentality. And I think this is one
of these cases where we're just gonna go ahead and
see what both of these teams have at their disposal,
and hopefully their styles come through. If I can see
this being just a train wreck of two teams trying
to put and just tape themselves back together with like,
(01:05:06):
all right, this is our identity, is our style, and
then we're gonna have a zero zero matchup on our hands,
and you know, get a point for Sandy Cee. I guess,
but you know, I think I think they'd be happy
with the point here away.
Speaker 1 (01:05:21):
Oh I would be, I would be absolutely all right, guys,
